I’ve seen so many posts upset about the kiss on last night’s episode. I have some disorganized thoughts.

I haven’t seen the original GoT in many years, but I vaguely remember Khaleesi having a right hand woman that was similar to Mysaria as far as having a heartbeat on the people and how to win them over. She even hooked up with her to learn how to please her husband I thought…or maybe I’m remembering incorrectly.

Anyway, Mysaria reminds me a lot of that woman in that at first I didn’t trust her, but Mysaria has continued to be honest w Rhaenyra and has opened up to her and let her see parts of herself that no one else has. I’m not even sure Daemon knows how she got that scar bc their relationship seemed more about what she could do for him and I think she always felt that dynamic. At least that’s how her relationship w him came across to me.

But she told Rhaenyra that she’d never made her feel less than and I think that has touched Mysaria and she genuinely feels something for Rhaenyra. They have both been on the receiving end of Daemon’s childish run-away-when-I-don’t-get-my-way tactics and have both been underestimated by the men around them and have both been wronged by the Hightower family (mainly Otto).

I would obviously prefer to see Rhaenyra with Alicent, but I’d like to give Mysaria the benefit of the doubt in regards to her intentions with Rhaenyra. I feel she’s far more trustworthy than Valys or whatever his name is that has tried to weasel his way into becoming the hand of the king every chance he gets. Or maybe I’m a big ole sucka!

I agree the music was quite cacophonous and I can definitely see how it would make people feel off about the kiss. Music is never unintentional in tv shows, so it could be Rhaenyra walking into a trap with Mysaria. I’m hoping it was bc of the omg what if they get caught like this type of situation and if they were caught what would happen to them?! I could see that being a disastrous scenario for both of them but especially Rhaenyra.

I have a bad track record of trusting the wrong people, so I am almost certainly wrong to give Mysaria the benefit of the doubt and I haven’t seen the trailer or sneak peek or whatnot where she’s burning a letter so I am probably wrong about her intentions, but truly I hope not bc I want Rhaenyra happy and healthy and no one in her camp has seemingly supported her more in recent eps.

Rhaenyra’s been surrounded by men (other than those working around the castle) for so long and with Rhaenys gone now and Alicent giving her no choice but to forge on w the war in their last interaction, I’m really not surprised she’s become so close with Mysaria.

I think for me it goes back to Mysaria knowing she’s probably on the losing end of this war and she had a chance to get away and out of the reach of all of it, but instead chose to come back and help save Rhaenyra from the twin who’d been sent to assassinate her. She didn’t have to do that and really I don’t see what she had to gain from doing that knowing the green’s had the upper hand in the war. I think (or at least hope) her speech to Rhaenyra was sincere before the kiss.

MOSCOW IBC QUESTIONS

omg do you agree with the freaking result of Moscow IBC 2022? Sminorva 2nd??? seriously cmon... also the juniors, im pretty weirded out, but Maria Koshkareva definitely deserved Prize I!

Smirnova in 2nd is absolute garbage, I'm sorry. I have nothing else to say.

Koshkareva in first is entirely logical but I'm not sure if I agree with the rest of the results below her, especially because the final round was supposed to be weighted more. And basically, everyone was a hot mess in round 3 because no one could get through the Girgorovich repertoire. Valiullina danced a variation that did her absolutely no favors and she was falling out of turns left and right, the same can be said for Yeonjoo Jung and Karamysheva. And for crying out loud, Kuprina fell on her face!

I'd give the 2nd prize to Kamila Sultangareeva who really upped her game in the 3rd round by showing 2 diverse variations executed incredibly well. And I think I would have put Alicia Pak above everyone else for 3rd, yes she's young but she has a dynamic quality of movement, a natural jump and danced two Grigorovich pieces beautifully in the 3rd round.

But then decisions like I made lead to questions about how you judge the competition to begin with, are you judging by who dances the best on that night? By who has the most potential? Best body type? Most powerful school/teacher/connections? That's a whole separate topic and the results change drastically based on how you judge.

I also think the boys results below first place are a bit iffy as well and a pretty decent indication of competitors' schools influencing the results. I think I would have had Siheon Jeong higher than all of the VBA boys.

Masha Koshakaryova won Gold in the juniors, Anastasia Smirnova won silver medal bc judges decided to not award gold? Which like...I really really dislike when competitions do that. She did do a great Carmen and Odile variation though. I would be very happy to see her debut either one (idk if Mikailovsky even does Carmen though)

I also disagree with them not awarding medals. Competitions should be judged based on who competes, not based on some imaginary standard. If you're the best out of who shows up, then you should win first place, no questions asks. I can understand reserving the Grand Prix for truly outstanding talent, but the rest of the prizes should be given out in full. Dancers need the money!!!!

I don't think MK has a Carmen production? (Happy to be corrected here) and I want to see her in O/O eventually....but not before she matures a bit more in her adagio dancing.

Hey Ale! Is there any chance of some of the competitors in IBC to join in the BT? Such as Smirnova for example...

I mean anything is possible, who knows. Vaziev and Grigorovich will decide. Stylistically, I think she could do very well under the BT of 10-15 years ago, but with what style of dancers are currently being favored...I'm not sure we'd see a ton of her there. She could mold herself into what I think of as the 'classic BT' style, but there's not a lot of that left in the theatre currently.

But honestly, for Smirnova, I'm not sure how many people are on her side at this point. She's caused a lot of tensions jumping back and forth between MK and MT, it makes her look like a 'risky' dancer to have in a company and there is plenty of speculation going around that her switching companies damaged her relationships with influential people on the jury and cost her the gold.

I really don't understand, Anastasia Smirnova has the technique, stage presence, star quality, and performed her solos outstandingly yet isn't awarded first place and ties for second? What do they have against her?

As I said above, her company switches have likely given them something to hold against her. Some might not love her style but I think it's very hard to objectively disregard the stability and elevation of her technical feats and her overwhelming charisma.

omg russian audience are talking.... valiullina taking bad rep about her ibc performance. idk she's a bit well known since she was a child, too much expectations on her shoulders. people are quick to judge.

The forums (and people online in general) love to talk trash. Some people aren't always the best dancers in a competition setting. You've really got to have ice in your veins to go out there and give your best performance on strong legs. This competition was by far the biggest stakes performance she's ever taken and she didn't quite rise to the occasion. She's also got a TON on her plate right now (so does everyone at VBA but everyone handles pressure differently. The 'sink or swim' method isn't for everyone, maybe it would have been better for her to compete in a duet or even as a not competing partner but who knows, what if's are useless.

very bold of valiullina to dance odile and raymonda in front of yuri grigorovich himself. 😳😭 i think she got nervous, her routines werent the prettiest, but ok, well done, it's over.

She got through it, that's about all there is to say. What's really unfortunate is that she never seemed to shake the nerves that were there from the first round. Instead the opposite happened and her stability completely disappeared by the final round, she stepped on stage and I felt like she had very little confidence in her own abilities.

I know gamzatti is hard, so is odile, and esp raymonda.... and sofia's performance... did not look so great.... it was all over the place. A for effort I guess, i think shes young and extremely nervous., and small preparation time bec of grad concert. I do hope she'll strive to improve, and better performances in the future. Koshkaryova's pretty impressive, i especially enjoyed her contemporary, Maestro. I think she'll win.

I think her contemporary is a bit tacky and cheesy but so is most of the choreography that was made for this competition. It shows her skills well and that's what's important.

Regardless of the results at Moscow IBC, Illuishkina has grown so much as a dancer in these past few years. She’s so confident now and her turns are so much better.

100% agree and her prize is totally deserved. She's improved tremendously this year, first the showstopping Nikiya and now this!!

Why do the jury members always look so grumpy and have such bad posture lol? If I was a dancer I would be terrified to see them like that in the audience.

Not me about to defend a bunch of old white men....but sitting there watching for like 3+ hours straight and about 6-7 hours a day and having to write so much so quickly isn't exactly pleasant. It gets old, really fast. They're all old dancers and have bad backs....give their posture a break ahaha. But luckily, the dancers most likely can't see them clearly. With the harsh stage lights contrasting with the dark house, it's very difficult to pick out anything more detailed than lumps of people. They certainly can't see all of Tsiskaridze's eye rolls or Fayteyev putting his head in his hands.

Revali x Reader

Summary: Being close to the reserved Hero chosen by the Gods included an amazing friendship. Though a certain someone is not too fond of said friendship.

The relationship between you and Revali was filled with undying love and admiration towards each other. You admired his skill and ambitiousness while he other other hand loved and cherished your kindhearted nature and strong sense of justice. However despite your relationship that was full of trust and love, Revali couldn’t help but to b feel envious every time you were around a certain Hylian Champion.

Link was a very dear friend of yours, often spending your free time in his company. He had allowed his somewhat reserved nature to crack when talking to you, opening up about his life. This made you grateful as you felt extreme delight of the fact that he considered you a trustworthy friend. You appreciated your close friendship with Link, however understood that your beloved Rito wasn’t too fond of him.

Revali wasn’t certain as to why the strings of jealousy tugged his heart whenever you interacted with the blond. He felt a wave of discomfort whenever you laughed in his company, thinking just how much he wanted to be in his place. He knew you were loyal, someone who would never leave his side, but still, the shadow of envy followed him everywhere when he knew Link was nearby.

Link hopped on to his horse before turning to you and waving his hand as a good-bye. “Bye, Link. It was great to see you again,” you say, smiling, the Hylian doing the same. It had been a long day at Rito Village and Link had come for a quick visit. He was often busy with his many royal knight duties so it was delightful to see him every once in a while. Revali was most likely on Medoh, not wanting to engage in any kind of interaction with the cerulean eyed knight.

You sigh as Link disappears from view and begin to return to the village. The day would still last for a couple of hours so you had plenty of time to do all the things that had been left undone due to Link’s sudden visit.

You glance up at Medoh, wondering if its Champion was aboard the flying beast. Your thoughts then move to Revali entirely, finding it strange that you almost never saw him when Link was around, excluding all the mandatory meetings of the Champions. Of course you knew of his dislike towards the blond but you didn’t think it would affect him this much.

Suddenly, as if being called by your thoughts, Revali lands beside you, making you snap out of your thoughts. “Finally. I thought he would never leave.” The tone of his voice leaked bits of annoyance as he straightened the blue scarf around his neck.

You merely rolled your (E/C) eyes at his words, fully expecting them. “You should’ve come to say hi...” Sarcasm is clear within your own voice in an attempt to tease the Champion.

He scoffs at your words taking a few steps closer. “No thank you. It’s bad enough he’s spending his time with you-” His words left his beak faster than he thought, soon realizing to stop before he would say too much. But alas, his words caught your interest and a sly smirk was laid on your face.

“Oh, what do you mean by that?” Walking up to him, you place your hands on his shoulders, your eyes sparkling with excitement when he’s unsure how to answer.

“Are you perhaps jealous-”

“Don’t be stupid. That’s complete nonsense.” The way he quickly interrupts you only increases your suspicion. Yep, he was definitely jealous. The way his green eyes avert your gaze, the way his feathers puff up ever so slightly by what must be embarrassment are clear signs.

You tilt your head to the side, keeping eye contact with his averting orbs, a small smirk tugging the corners of your mouth. “Oh really? I think you are...” Your teasing is proving to be effective as Revali rolled his eyes in an attempt to seem unbothered.

You laugh and place your against his now fluffy chest. He carefully places his wings around you engulfing you with warmth. “Oh, Vali.. You know I’m never going to leave you, right?” You quickly glance at him, noticing his still somewhat irritated expression.

Frowning your brows you lift yourself up enough to place a small kiss on his beak. “Right?” You question him again, eyes focused on his own that are finally looking back at you.

“You’re a pain (Name)...” He finally says, but embraces you again showing through his actions that he indeed knows you will always stay by his side. You return the embrace, chuckling softly at his sarcastic remark.

“And you’re just a jealous bird.”

Shoukoku no Altair Liveblog (Chapter 2)

First: I adore how fluid the lines are for this image (left: magazine scan; right: jpn digital ver).

Second: I got my hands on the digital Japanese raws (cmoa.jp was having a sale and the first volume of Altair was free)! It’s surprising how much better the quality is compared to the magazines (see the image above). I guess it would be worth it to buy the digital from Kodansha, though they currently only have the first volume.

Anyway, I have no set way of liveblogging this currently...I planned on doing it in chunks but the posts get really long if I include more than 1 chapter so...I’ll see.

Before I start chapter 2, this is interesting. I noticed that the scans from the magazine lack this border (which appears in both digitally available versions as you can see here). Seems like it really gets cleaned up and added to for the compiled release.

Chapter 2: The Poison General

We get the Balt-Rhein Empire’s crest, but I don’t remember enough about European heraldry to talk about it so I’ll just leave it here.

I love the expressions on these people’s faces. And their poses. They’re probably dancing? I don’t know anything about Turkish dances.

First off, a bit of history about this fictional Turkiye. I have no clue how close it is to the real life counterpart, but apparently this Turkiye is a country of nomads and merchants, which a little wikipedia digging reveals to be true about some Turkish ethnic groups. It also has a “caravan road” and a “sea road” which is the equivalent of the Silk Road.

Breaking away from the exposition, we get some dude calling Mahmut’s name.

He’s adorable. And he’s reading a book with eagles on the cover, even better. AND he has a bookmark between his fingers. You see it in the book when he closes it, as well as an intricate looking pen. I just love this amount of detail UGH.

And, I don’t think I mentioned this last chapter, but I loooove how this manga-ka draws birds. They don’t look derpy?? Look at that deadly beak on Iskander.

Then this guy pops up. Ok his nickname is apparently 飾り帽子 meaning “decorated hat” which. I have no clue what that’s supposed to mean. Does he wear nice hats or does he have a lot of accomplishments...I dunno. He’s a governor/viceroy (総督).

Honestly all these titles are starting to confuse me. Are the vizers and pasha two different titles? Because they use the same kanji: 将軍 (meaning general) and there are 13 of each. So does that mean they put a 17-year-old in charge of a whole slice of their country?

Not sure what these two are going on about, but something to do with the country’s security. And things moving around behind the scenes.

They changed Shara’s appearance between the magazine and digital releases:

I’ve never read both versions like this at the same time, so that’s a surprise. And before anyone gets all up in arms, the colors/shading on the magazine release are usually different/darker because they use lesser quality paper. That’s why her skin tone (as well as the background, which is apparent in certain panels) differ.

I never realized they differ so much?? Like, I know from other series that they clean up and add chapters to the tankobon but. I kinda like magazine Mahmut’s expression better, but digital Shara is an improvement. She looks a little creepy in the magazine with the very wide eyes lol.

Also Iskander. Mahmut is feeding him...something huge.

Such a nice panel. Also, she apparently saw him 4 years ago?? He’s about 17 now, so that would make him 13 then. He doesn’t look much different. that’s manga for you.

A combination of being embarrassed at his inability to dance and the gossip centered around him?

Maybe it’s just about his dancing after all. 

*went to look it up* Ah, yes, apparently it IS part of a dance from that region of the world. People can’t seem to decide if it’s more Turkish or Greek in origin, but whichever it is, that’s apparently how the people in that area danced.

HAHA so he decided to sleep on the roof instead. What season this? It’s said that they live in a desert, and Ibrahim mentions in the original Japanese that his wife gave birth to twins in the summer, so it isn’t summer...guess it’s not that bad outside haha.

He brought Iskander up there with him.

And serious times now. Looks like that Louis guy from last chapter is up to no good again.

If I knew more about this region, maybe I’d be able to guess who these people are based on, but apparently they’re seeking to reclaim land they’ve lost.

Armed revolt, huh. does not sound good. OH WHAT.

The guy he just spoke to? Aah, that stunned look on his face, especially the crease in his brow, you can see how, well, shocked he is. And shell-shocked, at the bottom of the page when he’s remembering just how easily they hung out together a few days ago.

And notice how, while everyone else is moving onto how they heck they’re going to fix this (with Zaganos already declaring that he’ll take care of it), Mahmut is still in shock that such a thing happened, not wanting to believe it. It shows his lack of experience (the sort that comes with aging with the job). But at the same time, it’s his intense desire for peace that helps him solve these conflicts too. A bit of give and take.

Also, can’t decide if I like this guy or not:

Well, at least he looks cool. I haven’t mentioned it yet, but still loving the clothing designs. Though those boots look painfully annoying to lace up.

Oh, but look at this completely frustrated look.

Once again, he can’t do anything, and no one will even suggest compromise or find out why the people rebelled. Violence is once again the default, the established standard. It clashes completely with how Mahmut wants to approach things.

And then! He doesn’t scream or shout, he actually requests calmly for Zaganos to stop. Not that Zaganos will be pleased, probably, but at least Mahmut is reining himself in. And he waited a bit, too, seeing as Zaganos had time to leave and get on his horse.

He’s using polite language, too.��お待ちくださいザガノス将軍」

Ooh, I really like this tension between the two. He tells Mahmut straight out that he wants to take advantage of this event, whatever caused it, to wipe the optimism/naivety off the pacifist faction’s faces.

“...have their eyes opened to the fact that powers able to make even the virtuous Ibrahim Vali revolt exist in this world.”

I really like that line. It’s hard to really hate the guy because has a point, just as much as Mahmut is right in that they should find out the root of the revolt before they act. It’s horribly cold, but he’s also right that it’s dangerous to, well, believe in the goodness of people when they have the safety of a country at risk, which is the exact opposite of Mahmut.

Of course, the fact that he may have known they would revolt and did not do anything about it just to take advantage of the situation is like, damn dude why are you so cynical. I dunno. Zaganos is interesting. Coldly efficient, extreme, yet I can understand where he’s coming from.

I like this awkward panel in which he is getting on the horse. Looks very weird but. it’s actually accurate for how people experienced at riding (and light enough to vault) look when getting on horses. I appreciate that the horse looks like a horse and not a horse puppet, too (the one other one above notwithstanding)

Also, I love how Halil supports Mahmut, such a great grandfatherly figure. 

LANGUAGE TIME OMG. When Mahmut says to tell Halil “Understood” as his message, he uses the word 心得 which translates to “understood” lol. But the kanji that make up that word are 心 “heart” and 得 “to gain”. just...let that sink in (an alternative that is more common is probably 分かりました or 承知, but that’s a little formal)

OMG. She fixed...this awkward horse...it has become so beautiful...Also, the background was changed to make it a starry night.

Ooh, and Shara comes along to help out Ibrahim!

2. What is their voice like?

Thistle: usually soft and a little on the quiet side, that’s not to say she can’t speak up or anything but she tends to be a little unassuming :’D

Vali: rather sharp, often cold, and she enunciates clearly. she also basically has two “sets” of “vocal cords,” a human set and an alien set. the alien set allows her to make the purring/clicking/rumbling noises that make up alien speech. when she’s talking as a human, occasionally some clicks and other small sounds slip out. she will use alien sounds as intimidation sometimes too, and they also seem to be her first ‘reaction’ vocalization when something happens (i.e. surprise, pain, anger, etc)

7. Which of their relationships have impacted them most positively?

Thistle: HER GF OMG Nikki has literally and figuratively saved her life on numerous occasions and it’s just so good :’3 she’s basically helped Thistle kind of…calm down a little bit, have more confidence, and absolutely feel safer

Vali: her pretty much only human friend, who as of yet is still being called Cerise (i’m not 100% happy with like…any of the names in this project, so they might be changing.) there was immense distrust on both sides at first (and a LOT of fear from Cerise) but they basically had to rely on each other to survive and so slowly built up a friendship following that. Cerise was a runaway so they kind of saw a bit of each other in feeling that they don’t really belong. but the company’s nice :’3 i haven’t decided if it’ll turn into something romantic or not…that would be nice, but also i feel like it’s not necessary. so we’ll see what happens :’D

10. What is their favorite food/kind of food?

Thistle: i’m kinda leaning towards her being a vegetarian, so she’s probably happiest with nice fresh veggies and stuff like that. also probably the kind of person who considers fruit to be dessert, but also wouldn’t turn down chocolate :’D

Vali: doesn’t really get enjoyment out of food, since that was never a huge priority. in the labs, she had to be fed a high calorie diet to keep up with the needs of her body. once she escaped, she’d go after whatever she can find, which turns into a bit of an issue because it’s not easy finding enough fuel for such an unstable body system :’)

29. Are they a morning person?

Thistle: i think so, although she’s definitely fine with a morning of sleeping in super late and snuggling with her gf :’D

Vali: since she doesn’t really sleep (she rather goes into a kind of ‘standby’ mode, where she’s not fully conscious but is able to filter out sounds that are threatening vs. nonthreatening and give her mind a rest that way) i don’t think morning vs. night really matters all that much to her. she feels a lot better under the cover of darkness, though, and her eyesight is amazing in the dark. bright sunlight can actually be a bit detrimental.

33. Do they own any objects of significant personal importance?

Thistle: she’s definitely the kind of person to do this, but i’m still kinda figuring out what exactly that might be. so this is kind of a non-answer :’D 

Vali: not really the sentimental type, but i think it would be lovely for her to end up with something along the course of the story that actually does mean a lot to her. we’ll have to see how it goes :’D

40. Do they have any scars?

Thistle: i’m sure she’d have a few, being a huntress in training and all. nothing major or descriptive though, she’s pretty careful and really big on self-preservation :’D i think i’ve mentioned before that she’d rather flee than fight, but is training to be a better fighter in order to better protect and defend herself should the need arise.

Vali: mostly surgical scars from various tweaks/examinations/implants. she’s mostly biological but does have a few non-organic bits, like the implant in her head (before she ripped it out omg) that allowed her to communicate long-distance with her fellow experiments, monitored by the lab of course. (it turned out to be a tracking device as well, which is why she got rid of it.) there are other various implants measuring her vital signs, performance, and other things that i’m still working out the science of :’D but yes, smaller surgical scars on her head, neck, forearms, maybe abdomen idk

57. What D&D alignment are they?

in the words of my boyfriend, Thistle is probably “chaotic terrified” and Vali is “neutral murder” :’D to be honest i don’t know a lot about D&D alignments (i’ve never played…yet) so just going off of a quick alignment test on the internet, Thistle is probably neutral good, and Vali might be chaotic neutral? i’m really not sure man :’D

69. Is there anything that they find really gross?

Thistle: probably a bit squeamish by nature, but not super bad or anything :’D standard stuff like bug guts maybe? she definitely hates getting her tail dirty, since she likes to keep the underside nice and pretty and white.

Vali: has literally ripped out a man’s jugular with her bare claws, has no time for your weak feelings of “gross” 

75. How patient are they?

Thistle: fairly patient, because if she has time to be patient, that means that things aren’t currently going horribly wrong :’D (also she has Nikki as a girlfriend)

Vali: also quite patient, especially if she’s on the hunt or waiting for the coast to be clear or whatever. she can also use that downtime to go into that ‘standby’ thing.

84. What are some physical features that they find attractive on people?

Thistle: -will smith pose at Nikki-(basically a girl that can bench press her no problem)

Vali: doesn’t really think about or feel physical attraction

91. What is their sense of humor like?

Thistle: surprisingly inappropriate jokes for someone so small and cute and harmless-looking :’D but subtly, she’s more likely to make an innuendo than an all-out vulgar joke. also maybe some puns, but only if they’re clever.

Vali: she probably doesn’t…have much of a sense of humor :’D it’d probably be the self-deprecating type, if anything. or otherwise really dry and sarcastic.
