MISUNDERSTOOD FEELINGS ( Mike Ross x Reader)
Pairings: Mike Ross x Reader Word Count: 3.767 Warnings: Little bit angst but fluff in the end. A/N: Well Hello everyone! I love watching Suits a lot but it was very disappointing to not see much fanfics about the infamous Mike Ross… Well, I wanted to write one, it may be not that well but I tried my best. English isn’t my first language but I hope you enjoy it!
Last night, as you walked to the apartment you were living, the exhaustion was too intense to fighting back. Well, you worked too hard on a file with Mike Ross. He needed a hand of researching a file about one of Harvey’s super rich clients. Since you finished your work, it was okay for you to help Mike.
You found him quite interesting actually. Working crazy hours, trying to memorize everything, every rule, every clients needs; he was just doing it smoothly. One time, you got to experience it, Louis Litt was giving you a hard time about a case he gave you. Well, you never run away from a fight, so as he was pressuring you about reading thousands of pages and the due date was the day after, you were just feeling overwhelmed as fortunately, Mike Ross, the “genius puppy” came in to the library for rewriting a report, then he saw you.
Basically you were under the pile of papers as you looked like you were trying to survive for tomorrow. “Are you alive?” He jokingly said to you as you two were the only ones in the library at this hour of evening. “Well, Louis Litt gave me these files and he said,” You changed your voice as mimicking Louis, “Y/N, finish them all, I need it by the morning.” He smirked at the impression you made of Louis Litt. “He can be pain in the ass.” He whispered that.
“He’ll fire you if he hears that, careful.” He smiled. “I’m Mike, by the way, Mike Ross.” You looked at him as you smiled softly. “Well, Mike Ross, you have quite a reputation around here.” He furrowed his brows. “Can’t help it, I guess I am awesome?” *He smirked and sat in front of my chair. “You are cocky. Anyways, I’m Y/N L/N.” He looked at my eyes and smiled. “Do you need any help?” He offered gently.
For once, you hesitated to say something. Because it has always been like that. You do the job, you work too hard for it but right now, a help would be appreciated. You thought. “If you are not busy, any help would highly appreciated.” you looked at him with a wave of relief.
He turned a file to himself and began to read it with full focus. That night, you ordered a pizza and read, checked all the laws and other documents. He was indeed, brilliant. As he memorized everything just by reading it, you whined sadly.
But truly, he helped you sincerely and without him you wouldn’t probably sleep at least three hours. That night a friendship began to sprouted between the two of you.
As you remembered the sweet meeting you two had, a smile formed into your face and you tossed the keys on the counter and you walked hazily to the couch. Before you could get up and went to your bedroom, the sweet sleep took you surprisingly and you drifted off to sleep.
Yeah, the snoozed alarm rang again as she woke up and looked at her phone, you realized, it was 07.50 a.m. Well you were late and you overslept! Fuck, you sweared.
Since your apartment door wasn’t that complex and big, you hurriedly moved to your bedroom and changed your clothes to something else. Usual formal outfits. Then you went to the bathroom and washed your face, brushed your teeth. Fortunately you didn’t do an eye makeup yesterday so you didn’t struggle to clean your face.
After walking back to the living room, you took the files and put it on your pack. Then you are out. You walked so fast and sweared yourself to wear heels, then you called a cab, fortunately there was an empty one.
By the time Y/N arrived to the firm, the clock showed 09.00 a.m. Well, she was 10 minutes late to the meeting but she thought she would be later than that.
After she walked out from the elevator, she looked around and ran through the hallway. As she entered the conference room, she saw Harvey and other clients. Then she heard someone calling her name. “Y/N, where have you been?”
Mike said to you in a little bit worriedly. “I’m so sorry Mike, here, the files you were searching for. Well, I have found them but it was too late so I overslept, I’m so sorry.” He thanked you quickly then entered the conference room. You caught an eye from Harvey Specter himself. You felt terrible about it, after Mike went inside, you turned your way to the associate room.
You saw Donna, as you were walking past in the hallway. “You alright?” She asked you curiously. You looked at her a bit worriedly. “I am good, why?” She looked at you emphatically. “Well, you look a little bit messy.” you closed your eyes for a moment trying to not feel embarrassed. “I overslept unfortunately.” She smiled at that expression. “It’s okay, come with me.” She looked at you sweetly.
As you followed her down to the bathroom, you saw the state you were in. Your hair looked messy and your face looked a little bit bad. “Here, have my mascara. It’ll look good on you.” Donna offered you her mascara. It was a kind gesture so you appreciated. “Thank you, Donna.” You tamed your hair and then you put a mascara on your eyes and then you put a red lipstick on your lips. You didn’t understand why she was so nice to you actually. You were associate and she was Harvey’s secretary.
“Us, girls, stick to each other.” She replied softly. You looked at her as you smiled. She looked like a cool person you thought. “So, Y/N, how have you been?” She said. “I don’t know, Louis pushing me really hard these days… How are you doing with Harvey?” She smiled. “It is always usual, now that we have Mike…” She looked at you longly. “Well, he is a copy of Harvey, so double trouble for me.” As Donna said it you giggled. “He is nice.” You said abruptly. Donna raised a knowingly eyebrow. “Nice as what?” She said it curiously.
You looked at her carefully. “He is smart and helpful so…” You bubbled the words as Donna’s gaze was on you. “That doesn’t answer my question.” You looked at her. “What was the question again?” You said it smoothly. Acting like you haven’t heard her you ignored it. She smiled. “You are cute, I think we are gonna be friends.” Donna said. Then she continued.
“I think you should talk to him about your feelings.” You looked at her confusedly. “What?” You froze for a moment. “Well, I know you harboring a crush on Mike.” Now, you looked very embarrassed and also amazed by Donna. “How did you know?” She smiled. “I’m Donna, I know everything.” She looked at you confidently. But you waved her off.
“Sorry but that would be highly unprofessional. And I have a lot on my plate.” You waved her a goodbye and you left the bathroom.
As you entered the bullpen, you walked to your desk and started to work on some paperwork. After thirty minutes, you felt someone approaching to you. It was Mike. You looked up and saw him. “Hi, how was the meeting?” He looked at you. “Well, if you hadn’t show up with the files, we couldn’t able to got them.” I looked at him sorrowfully. “I’m sorry again Mike, for being late…” He looked at me sympathetically. “It’s alright, don’t worry.”
As he began to say something else, Louis came to our side. “Ladies, let’s lower the talk and get back to actually working.” I lowered my gaze, as Mike sent my way a wink, he walked to his desk, unfortunately, Louis called after him and asked his presence for his office.
Due to all the paperwork you were writing and the case you were dealing with, you didn’t realized it was around 08.00 p.m. You stretched your back and got up from the desk.
You got up and decided it was enough for today. When you took your purse and walked to the elevator, you thought about Donna’s words. It was bold of her to assuming it and actually commenting on it. Yes, she may be right about it but it was just a silly crush. Nothing worthy of giving the thought a shot.
So you stepped out from the elevator and as you walked away from the firm, you saw Mike, as he was talking with a woman, whose had a blonde hair. She was shorter than him, tinier. They were talking briefly and as your gaze never fell out from them, the next thing you saw surprised you.
That woman’s lips were on his lips in the next minute. As you saw it, you turned your head back and closed your eyes briefly. Oh, fuck. The tears… You felt the tears brimmed sharply in your eyes. As you were too stunned about the idea of having a silly crush, had affected you this badly. That it dwelled tears in your eyes.
You sighed and quickly walked away from the sight. Great. You went inside a cab hurriedly and by the time you arrived to your place, you felt horrible. How the hell he affected you like that? Also, how could you have not see the fact that he had a girlfriend? You thought all about it. As you lay down on your bed, these messy overthinking thoughts run all over your head.
The next morning when you woke up, you put on a navy blue dress. You brushed your hair and went to bathroom to do basics of routines. After you entered your bedroom, you quickly put some jewelry and took your coat and badge.
As you were leaving your place, you called a cab and went to the firm. It was just nothing’s new.
After you stepped into the elevator and walked to your desk, everything was same. Dull and boring.
Nothing’s new. Same paperworks, reviewing case files, contacting clients and do some shit for Louis Litt.
However, you saw Rachel Zane, stepping into the bullpen and with that charming smile of hers she welcomed you. “Hey, Y/N, how’s your day?” She said softly. “Racheel.” You empathized. “It’s same as always, what’s up?” You said it. Then she leaned on you. “Harvey’s expecting you in his office. There’s a case, he would like to see you.” You felt confused for a moment. “I’m not his associate, that’s weird.” Rachel smiled.
“I guess Louis doesn’t know about it.” As she said it, you got up and giggled about her comment. “I guess so.” You replied then walked to Harvey’s office. You knocked on his door softly. “You wanted to see me?” You said softly as you walked inside, Mike was also sitting.
You didn’t glance back at him, however, you could feel his curious eyes all over you. “Okay, L/N, well, Jessica gave me a pro bono case and she asked me to work two associates on it. Since you are pretty good at what you are doing, I’m gonna give it to you and Mike.”
Then you looked at Mike, briefly. As your eyes met, you changed your glance into Harvey ever so slightly. “Okay, sir.” You said firmly. Well, what a conundrum. Yesterday night you saw Mike with a woman, as they shared a kiss and now, you’ll work him on a case. A pro bono case.
When you left Harvey’s room and walked to your desk, you sweared you were going to explode. That meant you were going to spend the day with Mike Ross. The guy you had a silly crush but turns out he had a girlfriend. What a tragedy.
As you looked at the computer in front of you, you looked so off. Then Mike approached to you slowly. “Y/N, what’s up?” He asked as he looked confused. “Nothing, shall we look at the file?” You turned your head to him and looked at him briefly. He furrowed his eyebrows but he didn’t comment on your behavior change. “Okay, so there’s this man his name is Josh Morgan, he is claiming that his wife died because of moles in their apartment.” You looked disgusted and sad. “Ugh, that must be suck.”
He agreed on that. “Okay, so let’s go and talk to him.” You said.
-
After you two came back from the client’s apartment, Mike had to debrief Harvey so, he left you. As two hours passed and both of you were in the library, looking for any complaints about other residents in the apartment, you didn’t catch Mike’s gaze on you. “What do you think about?” He said softly. You didn’t look at him as you replied with a small voice. “Nothing,” You furrowed your brows. “Something’s bothering you.”
When he said that, you looked at him immediately. “What?” You replied fast. “Did something happened? You seemed off today.” He said sympathetically. You shrugged him off with a small gesture. “It’s fine, really. I was just tired.” Yes, you were tired but he shouldn’t have known the silly feelings you had and the heartbreak you felt.
He chuckled to himself. “If I hadn’t know you better, I would have said you are sad.” You looked at him as you raised an eyebrow. “It’s bold of you to assume that, Mike.” You said it nonchalantly. Then after looking back at the papers, he was about to open his mouth but you cut him. “Here, look!” You showed him a paper. “This was a complaint they wrote back 6 years ago from Mr. Morgan’s former tenant. It says, the house was molded when they were moved in but the landlord said nothing about it and he even covered up about it.”
You showed Mike the rest of the papers, as you two got up and walked away from the library, you two planned to pay a visit to the former tenants house. You two could find something with that.
As you called a cab and headed into the building of the former tenants, the road was silent.
Mike and you got off from the car, you walked side by side. After you payed a visit and finding out what happened, turns out there was more residents felt uncomfortable with mold and their health issues.
Doing another research about the case you two were dealing with, you and Mike found a way in the case, it could turn out to be a class action.
But first, you gotta do an undercover. Well, the situation you felt wasn’t help at all but pretending his wife for an undercover investigation, well, what bad could happen? At least that’s what you thought.
You two called the apartment’s owner and set up for a meeting about the house for rent. Mike and you arrived in front of the apartment. As you two saw the landlord and stepped inside the apartment, you felt a bit uncomfortable. Knowing that there were molds inside the house, it was disgusting.
“Yeah, just like we talked. My wife and I look for a new place to move in.” As he gently squeezed your hand, you pretended to smile. “So, I believe you two are in the right place. Our houses welcomes families into a big and warm place. Where you can feel safe and comfortable.” He said effortlessly. Bastard, you thought to yourself.
“No doubt, well, her mom begged me for a change actually.” Mike said it as he smiled. “She said she didn’t want to see her daughter anymore.” You laughed at that comment, well, you felt embarrassed and also wanted to kill the man next to you that gently placed his hand on your back as he was caressing it. It felt so natural, for you to lean on his touch however, you couldn’t lose your mind. So you turned back and looked at the mirror, while you were looking at the window, you saw the radiators side of the wall.
Mike and you left the place after you finished talking and observing the place. After you left the place, you felt bad. “Did you see the mold in the radiators wall, It was ugh.” You mumbled. He agreed with you.
After you two turned back to the firm, you sent Harvey to the files. Well, there was only thing left back is that, bringing this to the court.
You waited a day, and after preparing all the paperworks and other stuff, you were ready for the hearing.
-
After that successful court hearing, the apartment owner and landlords offered a settlement and with that, you two gave the terms of your settlement and with that both of the sides were agreed and it was a good day.
You and Mike did a good job. It was like you two synced incredibly well and even Jessica agreed on it in some way you didn’t knew. However, it didn’t help the situation you were in. After that night, pretending even a slightest of his wife, it made you feel like a wreck inside.
You wished it. You wished to be his, but it would never happen anyway…
After that day, Mike offered you to go out for dinner to celebrate the win but you decided to declined it unfortunately. You said to him that you weren’t feeling well maybe of mold but that wasn’t true in slightest bit. And Mike, he was a great observant.
Nothing’s new, you thought. With your feelings about Mike and that girl you saw before, you felt green. Which you hated that.
As the shift of yours ended, you went to your house. To sleep away and maybe drink something for a little celebration. When you entered your house, you changed your dress into some causal house-fit.
After ordering a pizza from your phone, what you didn’t expect was a doorbell ringing. As you got up and went to open the door, you weren’t expecting to see Mike Ross, standing in front of your door. “Mike…” You sound confused. “What are you doing here?” You were genuinely surprised.
“We need to talk.” He said it briefly. The look of determination and worry in his eyes made you feel guilty. “Come inside.” You said softly as you gestured him inside.
Mike came inside and you looked at him. “Why are you ignoring me?” He said. You closed your eyes for a second. “I’m not.” You tried to got away from it. “Yes you are. I don’t understand, why?” As you looked at his deep blues, you felt bad. He looked desperate and hurt. “Mike, it’a complicated okay?” You said it in a whisper.
“It doesn’t matter, I wanna hear it.” He said firmly. “Did I do something wrong?” You wanted to scream yes, however you stayed still. “You didn’t do anything wrong. It’s not about you.” You looked at him. “Then what is it?” He asked genuinely.
With hesitation, you looked at him. You felt the fear of rejection and you felt afraid of losing a friendship you two had. But you couldn’t deny it anymore. It hurt to think about it.
“Do you have a girlfriend?” You asked.
“What?” He sounded genuinely surprised. He wasn’t clearly expecting this question.
“I saw you with a girl, you two were kissing.” You said it coldly.
Ah, the look on his face as you said the words, he furrowed his brows for a moment. So it was true then, you thought.
“She isn’t my girlfriend. It’s not like that.” Now, you felt a bit angry and confused.
“What do you mean it’s not like that?” You said it bitterly. He approached to you slowly. “She is my friend-“ You cut his sentence. “So you kiss your friends like that, wow.” You said it sarcastically. He felt genuinely confused about your remark.
“Y/N, no, I-“ He paused. Then he looked at you deeply. Well with that moment you felt too anxious for your own good.
“I want you to ask something, and please be honest with me.” He said it as you felt your heart was beating very fast. “Are you in love with me?” He said like he was desperate for an answer.
You paused.
And that moment, whole of your body shivered and you felt scared. “What difference would that make if I say something?” You admitted as you lowered your gaze down. You didn’t recognized that he was approaching to you slowly.
“It would make a difference for me.” As he said it, you tilted your head up and looked at him. Now that seeing him so close to you, your cheeks blushed into a light red. “Mike, I can’t- I can’t say it.” You felt horrified, but, the way his hand caressed your cheek, you felt your legs went numb.
“She kissed me, and it meant nothing, nothing to me.” He said it with a whisper. He was looking directly into my eyes. “Because my heart is already belong to someone else but she’s too oblivious to see it.” As he said these words, your cheeks flushed more.
“And well, the woman I love is standing right in front of me but she is too afraid to admitting that she loves me too.” He smiled softly to you. When you heard his words, you closed your eyes for a minute. All of this felt like a dream, not reality.
But it was real; he was standing right there and he was indeed admitting his feelings for you. So you did an unexpected move and you kissed his lips.
As you kissed Mike’s lips, you have never felt alive like this before. Kissing his lips felt so safe, holding by him felt like as if you suddenly came home while running wildly from something else. The way your lips moved in a harmony, it felt too natural.
When you parted away, you looked at him softly. “I love you.” He grinned like a kid, as you said that three word.
Then he hugged you softly after you two shared another sweet kiss.
Well, you could’ve get used to kissing by him.

A/N: holy moly this is a long one. enjoy!

The car ride was a thick quiet even with the crowded back seat. I sat next to Steve, who sat in the middle, and on the other side of him sat a well-dolled-up redhead with dark red lipstick, her eyes glancing over toward Steve occasionally. I did my best to keep my gaze out of the window, my mind filled with so much of what was about to come from Steve that I couldn’t focus on the surprise passenger.
Was this a good idea? Him becoming this super soldier? None of it made sense or sounded like the best idea, his best idea. If Bucky were here, he would slap Steve upside the back of the head; something I’d like to do right now, especially with the eyes that he and the redhead are making.
I swallowed the large, jealous lump in my throat because there was no need to feel that way. Steve was simply being nice to her, that I knew because Steve placed his hand on my left knee the second we sat down in the car's backseat. Neither of us expected a third party with us so we were both shocked when we saw the car pull up.
“Who’s that?” I asked Steve.
He sighed gently. “Peggy.”
The same Peggy that had been with him during his time at basic training. The same Peggy that had a hand in choosing him for this program.
I ought to wring her neck for that.
Steve assured me he had no feelings toward her but failed to mention how gorgeous she was.
“Hey.”
His soft voice brought my attention away from the window, and I responded with a raised eyebrow.
“Are you alright? I don’t think you’ve said one word since the car picked us up,” he mentioned.
I nodded while trying to smile at him. “I’m just nervous for you, that’s all.”
Steve brought my hand up to his lips and left a few pepper-soft kisses on the inside of my palm. “You don’t have to worry about me, doll. I’ll be fine.”
All I could do was ignore him, not wanting to give my brain an excuse to think of whatever this procedure was. So I thought of Bucky instead and what he was doing right at this moment. Who was he with? Was he thinking about them?
Was he even alive?
I squeezed my eyes shut tight to force that thought out of my mind. Bucky had promised me in his most recent letter not to dwell on that thought. If I did, it would make things difficult for me when all he wanted was for me to keep a smile on my face.
“I got beat up in that alley,” Steve’s finger pointed in front of my face. “In that parking lot. And behind that diner.”
With a quick follow of his finger, my heart pinched at the memory he had spoken of. Steve got beat up in the alley we had passed and thankfully, Bucky had found him before he became worse for wear.
Peggy blinked. “Did you have something against running away?”
I bit the inside of my cheek, not liking the difference in the tone of her voice.
“If you run away, they’ll never stop.”
Steve looked down at his hands so I reached for them, covering them with my own. It was the talk of that town that he was always standing up against the bigger guys, and bullies, and he would never back down. If he didn’t fight for the smaller guys, who would?
The car came to a sudden halt, and I peered through the window, confusion etched into my eyebrows.
“What are we doing at an antique shop?” I questioned.
Peggy simply motioned for us to follow her out of the car and when we were on the busy street, my eyes took in the two bodies that leaned up against the car behind us, one of the man’s fedora hats pulled low over his eyes while the other had his hat pressed against his chest. When their eyes met mine, goosebumps pricked over my skin and fear filled me. Something about these guys didn’t sit right we me.
“Steve,” I laced our fingers together to pull him to a stop. “Are we safe?”
He left a soft kiss on my cheek and some of the fear slipped away. “I promise we are. We need to trust Peggy. She wouldn’t steer us directly into danger.”
I scoffed. “Trust her? I met her an hour ago.”
“Y/N,” Steve sighed. “Can you please do this for me?”
It was my turn to let out a sigh. Even though I had a bad feeling about the entire thing, I gave him a curt nod before allowing him to drag me inside the antique shop. At the sound of the bell ringing above the door, an older lady with sandy white hair stepped through a curtain.
“Wonderful weather this morning, isn’t it?” She said.
Peggy nodded. “Yes, but I always carry an umbrella.”
Before I could even wonder why they were talking about the weather, the older lady stepped to the side of the three of us to walk through the previous curtain she had walked through. It was only a few steps until we came to a stop in front of a bookshelf.
“I’ve got a bad feeling” I muttered mostly to myself.
Steve, however, gave my hand a reassuring squeeze.
My shoulders jumped at the sound of something unlocking, and the bookcase in front of us slowly opened. Peggy didn’t bother to look at us, only kept her gaze forward as she walked down this short hallway. I took in the few people wearing lab coats, and we walked passed a table that someone was sitting behind; she gave us a small smile. She, along with a few others, was wearing almost exactly what Steve was wearing.
Steve was dressed up in his army uniform which meant that wherever we headed was some kind of hidden military base. Why was it hidden? What were they so afraid of others finding?
The doors in front of us opened, and we stepped out onto a balcony, the peeling green railing was there for me to grasp as I stared down at the many more bodies below. As the sound of us, all of their movements halted and stared up at us.
A small gasp fell from my lips. “Is that Howard Stark?!”
Peggy cleared her throat, annoyed at my sudden enthusiasm. “Yes. We’ll be using his technology for this procedure.”
I continued to stare at the billionaire that stood out in the middle of the scientists and it wasn’t until Steve pulled me along that we descended the steps. An older man with balding grey hair and round glasses perched high on his nose closed the distance between us with an extended hand toward Steve.
Steve’s hand dropped mine, and I frowned at the sudden loss of warmth.
“Good morning,” the man smiled.
A bright flash blinded us and after I blinked a few times, I noticed a photographer in the room had taken a picture of Steve and the man.
Steve turned towards me. “Y/N, I’d like you to meet Dr. Erskine.”
My jaw slacked slightly. This was the man that offered Steve this baffling opportunity? This was the man that was changing Steve, my Steve, the one that I had fallen in love with. Into some kind of super soldier? What would this mean for him IF it had worked?
“Ah,” Erskine smiled brightly. “Mr. Rogers talked a lot about you during his time at camp.”
I shifted on my feet, nervous. “Good things, I hope.”
He nodded. “Only the best. You seem to have quite the hold on him.”
If it was any other time or place, my heart would have swelled at the words but now as I stared at the contraption in the middle of the room there was only one thing on my mind.
“What is that?”
It looked like some kind of torture chamber, somewhere for Steve to lie in and get god knows what done to him.
Dr. Erskine sensed my doubt and came up next to me as I walked around the chamber-like bed.
“Mr. Rogers will step inside where we will close him in and administer the serum,” he explained.
My feet froze, locking eyes with the doctor. “Steve’s claustrophobic, he won’t step inside this thing.”
“Doll,” Steve began.
“Have you tested this serum?” I asked with my arms crossed over my chest.
“No, not recently,” Dr. Erskine admitted.
My eyes bulged. “Not recently? So what you’re saying is you do not know if this serum could kill Steve?”
He nodded, and I groaned while giving Steve my attention. “You want to do this?”
It was Steve who nodded now before grasping my hands and pulled me into him. My eyes peered down at him, only slightly, because the heels of my shoes had given me an extra half inch on him. With his small stature, I thought for sure Steve wouldn’t like it if I was taller than him but he never minded. He loved the way the straps of my heels wrapped around the soft skin of my ankles.
He brushed a strand of hair behind my ear, his fingers lingered on the nape of my neck.
“You’re not going to change my mind, Y/N. I’m doing this.”
I let out a shaky breath and reluctantly nodded. “Bucky is going to kill you once he finds out. You know that right? Then he will kill me for allowing you to do this.”
That caused Steve to chuckle low. “I think we both know that Bucky wouldn’t ever lay a finger on you like that because of something I did.”
I blinked, my eyes burning with tears. “There’s a chance I lost him. I can’t lose you.”
My words had trailed off with the rush of wet tears slipping over the skin of my cheek but Steve was quick to wipe them away. He hushed my cries with his soft lips to mine in a short but passionate kiss.
“We didn’t lose him. It’s Bucky we’re talking about. He doesn’t give up easily,” Steve reassured me. “And you will not lose me. I will be fine. If I didn’t trust Dr. Erskine, I wouldn’t be doing this.”
All I could do was nod, broken eyes gazing at our feet. Even with his words, Steve couldn’t ease my racing heart. Every vein in my body pulsed with fear; the fear of if this would work and the fear of being alone. Steve’s finger lifted my chin, and we shared another kiss, this time more deeply and I wrapped my arms around his back, reeling him into me. Our chests caved into each other and I could almost feel the beating of his own heart against mine.
Someone cleared their throat which caused Steve to pull away. Peggy was staring at us with an annoyed glint in her eyes.
“Are you ready, Steve?”
He nodded.
“Good. Take off your shirt, your tie, and your hat,” Dr. Erskin said.
Steve did as he was told and when he stood shirtless in front of me, I took in every inch of his skin, ingraining this picture into the confines of my mind in case somehow this procedure didn’t work and it would be the last time I would see Steve.
His hair was messy thanks to his hat and a few strands were falling into his eyes, the bright blueness of them shining back at me. Under the skinny and frail skin of his chest, I watched it rise and fall with each breath he took. The freckles that peppered his skin caught the light from overhead as he laid back down on the bed. I reached for his hand, bringing it to my lips.
“I still don’t feel good about this.”
Dr. Erskine smiled. “Mr. Stark, how are our levels?”
My heart jumped in my throat as the billionaire slinked up beside me, flashing me a bright teethed smile from underneath his mustache. “Levels are one hundred percent. Good.”
He then shrugged down at Steve. “We might dim half the lights of Brooklyn but we are ready, As well ever bed.”
I didn’t miss the way Howard Stark shifted on his feet, unsure of his own words.
With a quick kiss on Steve’s forehead, I cupped his cheek, “I’ll see you soon.”
Steve nodded but even though he was being strong for me, I knew deep down he was afraid. I could feel the way his face shook inside of my hand.
I gave my best smile and followed Dr. Erskine’s orders to go sit upstairs in the viewing deck, alongside Peggy and other men in suits that seemed to fill the room quickly. There was one seat left in the front row, directly in front of the large window that peered down at Steve. I slid into the chair before Peggy even had the chance to glance at it, not bothering to say hello to any of the men. My knee bounced as I bit my nails, nervously. All I could think about was Bucky and how he’d react once he found out about Steve.
Would he be upset like I was? Or would he become aroused at the new Steve?
That thought had just now appeared in my thoughts. Steve said the serum would change his appearance as well, how we didn’t know. We wouldn’t until it was over.
I grimaced as a loud feedback sound from a microphone pierced loudly in my ear. Dr. Erskine was tapping his finger on a microphone, his voice echoing around us in the booth.
“Ladies and gentlemen. Today we don’t take another step towards annihilation but the first step on the path to peace.”
This is what they wanted to use Steve for. As a way for peace?
I scoffed loudly, something that didn’t go unnoticed by Peggy who sat behind me.
Dr. Erskine continued as a large metal tub wheeled in next to Steve. “We begin with a series of microinjections into the subject’s main muscle groups. The serum infusion will cause immediate cellular change.”
Nurses around Steve pulled six blue vials out from the metal tub and hooked them up to the chamber he was lying on.
“And then to stimulate growth.” Dr. Erskine’s voice began again. “The subject will be saturated with Vita Rays.”
With his hand on Steve’s shoulder, he began a countdown showing the procedure was about to begin. My heart pounded so hard against its cage in my chest that I could barely breathe, my throat closing in on itself. I felt dizzy as the whole room spun, so I gripped the sides of my chair tightly to hold me down in place. The chamber rose to a parallel position, the three sides of it closing over Steve, not before they had injected the serum into Steve.
Dr. Erskine knocked on the door. “Steven. Can you hear me?”
“How’s Y/N? Is she doing alright?”
All eyes from the view booth stared at me and I slunk back into my chair, a hue of red creeping over my skin. Even when Steve should only worry about himself, he couldn’t stop thinking of me.
Dr. Erskine looked up at me and I gave him a thumbs up, showing I was alright, given the circumstances.
As they proceeded, the building rumbled low and a bright light coming from the chamber blinded us up here.
“Vitals are normal,” one doctor said.
The higher Howard Stark raised the pressure of the Vita Rays, the brighter the light shined and it wasn’t until I heard Steve’s scream that I raised to my feet, running back onto the balcony. Peggy’s voice called from behind me, trying to halt my movements.
“Turn it off!” I yelled down at them.
Dr. Erskine was pounding on the face of the chamber, yelling Steve’s name repeatedly.
“Turn it off!” I bellowed once more, tears pricking my eyes.
He turned on his heels, ready to do as I asked until Steve’s voice echoed. “NO! I CAN DO THIS!”
“Steve,” I cried. “Please.”
I fell to my knees, resting my forehead on the cool metal of the railing as Howard Starks voice called out that they reached one hundred percent. The surrounding electricity buzzed and hummed as the light inside the chamber pierced my eyes. Sparks shot off from all the technology in the room until suddenly, the power of the chamber cooled to a quiet hum.
Slowly, I rose to my feet as everything around me quieted down.
“Is he alright?” I asked Peggy.
She stared at me with uncertainty and shrugged. “I don’t know.”
My feet raced down the stairs and I yanked my arm away from a guard who tried to stop me. Dr. Erskine held up a hand, saying it was alright.
“Steve?” My voice quaked with worry.
Suddenly, the doors of the chamber opened, and I feared the worst, Steve’s mangled and contorted body waiting to fall into a heap on the ground.
Only it didn’t. The man inside was still Steve but different. His muscles had doubled and the definition of his abs was the first thing that caught my attention. He was breathing heavily, eyes closed, and it was when he fell that Dr. Erskine caught him that Steve awoke. His eyes fluttered open, gazing around the room. Howard Stark was on the other side of him and by now everyone in the view deck had filled into the main area, astonished that it had worked.
The noise of the happy chatter was muted in my ears as I continued to stare at Steve, unable to move because yes it may have looked like him but was he still my Steve?
It was my name falling from his lips that had snapped me from my frozen state.
“Where’s Y/N?”
Dr. Erskine found me among a flood of people and reached for my hand, dragging me closer to Steve. Now, even with my heels, he had towered over me by at least a foot. His chest look larger now close up and I raised my hand to touch it but reeled back, unsure.
“Doll,” Steve cooed. “Are you alright?”
His eyes didn’t miss the way mine were wet with tears. His hand reached for me but I took a step back.
“How do I know you’re Steve and not some kind of monster?”
Steve flinched but composed himself quickly. “I met you when you were 16 when you first started dating Bucky.”
I raised a brow, still not convinced. “So? Anyone could know that?”
He chuckled. “Under that black dress you’re wearing that skimpy-.”
My hand clamped over Steve’s mouth, hushing his words instantly. I didn’t need everyone in the room to know what color underwear I had worn today.
“Shhh!” I hissed, eyes boring into him.
Even if his body had changed, those eyes were still the same bright blue I remembered.
“I can’t believe it worked,” I admitted with a long breath.
My hand traced over the skin of his chest and stomach, his hard muscles tensing under my touch. I swallowed a moan and pressed my legs together.
Steve cupped my cheek. “I told you it would.”
I ignored his always-right attitude. “How do you feel?”
“Taller,” he smirked.
Even with everyone around us, congratulating one another, it felt as if Steve and I were the only two in the room thinking the same thing. We needed to feel each other, Steve in his new body, as soon as possible.
Suddenly, a loud boom echoed around us, and glass fell on top of us like rain. Steve wrapped an arm around my shoulder and threw me to the ground, himself protecting me from whatever had blown up. Once the ringing in our ears stopped for a moment, Steve looked me all over.
“Are you alright?”
I nodded, lips parted to speak until two distinct gunshots muffled Dr. Erskine's words. I watched in horror as his body fell to the ground, Steve running over to his side. He poked Steve in the chest twice, the silent action being enough for Steve to understand.
He looked over at me. “Stay here.”
Before I could even protest, Steve ran after the mystery shooter leaving me among the chaos.

Chapter 1
“So… what do you think?”
Your best friend asks as he looks at you with excitement. You look up at the looming old manor in front of you, trying to find the right words to match his enthusiasm. However, you end up blurting out the first thing that pops into your head. “Pink. Very pink.”
He snorts in amusement. “Is that all?”
“Old.” You add.
Friend rolls his eyes playfully and moves behind you, placing his hands on your shoulders. “Those are some amazing observation skills! Would our resident caveman like to tell us anything else?” He teases.
You laugh, feeling some of your initial uneasiness slowly reaching wash away with Friend’s humor. “Hungry.” You exclaim.
Friend smiles and you feel him gently push you into the large manor. “Then let us get settled in and we’ll order some pizza, my sweet Neanderthal~”
You let yourself get pushed into the manor whilst you do your best to keep your emotions in check, feeling your face heat up. The sweet tone he uses with you along with his soft touch and penchant for nicknames leave your heart beating in the tune of a bittersweet melody.
Friend goes to a lot of trips for his clothing line and sometimes you tag along. For a lot of the time, this is the only way you get to spend any time with your super busy friend. You put up with the long hours of traveling, jet lag and uncomfortable situations because not only is he your best friend since childhood, but you’re also very in love with him and have no way of telling him how you feel. Recently, though, it feels as if the gap between your two worlds has gotten bigger and you have no way of knowing how to close it. It seems like the more you try, the farther he slips from your grasp.
This time, you stay at an old manor called “The Pink Palace”, fairly near the city, but still hidden enough to feel like you have privacy. Friend was always a sucker for old fashioned houses and architecture so this was a way for him to keep his love alive while also doing his job.
You are currently sitting in a classy living room adorned by vintage decor with your best friend by your side, ready to watch a movie on the flat screen TV that looks very out of place.
You manage to take a peek of your best friend beside you and you begin to feel butterflies in your stomach. Moments like this when the two of you are alone are the ones you treasure the most. You feel as if you are the center of his world, with no distractions from his job and the modern world to come between the two of you. You hoped this would be the best time to admit your feelings for your best friend, but every time you tried, you’d get a wave of anxiety and mental images of your best friend rejecting you, making this trip awkward.
Suddenly, your phone buzzes, effectively snapping you out of your inner turmoil.
Carter: I could sense you chickening out from a mile away.
You roll your eyes at your college friend’s ability to know exactly what you are doing. How does he do that??
You: I’m just waiting for the right moment, okay?
Carter: No, you’re waiting for the last possible moment and torturing yourself. Drag this out, and you’ll be the “best man” on his wedding day.
You: …
The thought made your stomach churn and you write back quick.
You: It won’t come to that! I swear I’m telling him this time. No take backs.
Carter: Good. You can do this. 👍
You chuckle.
You: Thanks, Carter. I’ll let you know how it goes.
The movie keeps playing as you work up the courage to finally tell him how you feel. You take a deep breath and open your mouth… and his work phone rings. You sigh. Another confession thwarted.
Friend looks at you apologetically. “I’m sorry I’m doing this during movie night. I promise I’ll make it up to you when I’m done with work, okay?” He kisses the top of your head and leaves in a flash, right before you barely have time to register your own fluster.
You sigh. Alone again. You don’t want to get in between him and his work, but it feels like it gets in between the only time the two of you get together. Even now, the reason you both are staying in this palace is because of work. You don’t mean to be ungrateful, but when will you be a priority?
A bolt of lightning strikes near and shakes the manor slightly, making you jump. Rain starts to pour in buckets and you chuckle dryly as you think that even the universe knows what you’re going through.
“This sucks.” You mutter, before getting on your feet and walking around the palace, exploring the multiple rooms available. You try to push your feelings for Friend and your thoughts of loneliness away while you observe your surroundings, taking in the grand building in which you’re currently staying in.
This place would almost seem isolating and scary to you if it wasn’t for the fact that it was very… pink. Or at the very least, tried to include the color in every place that it could. No wonder Friend loved this place so much.
“I wonder if something like this is where he’d like to settle down and have a family.” You blush and shake your head.
You’re getting too ahead of yourself… you haven’t even confessed!
Not paying attention, you walk into a room that looks different from the rest of the house. For one, it doesn’t have an ounce of pink. And the color motif are the primary colors, along with the color black. It sounds strange, but in person, it actually looks cohesive. A jar of buttons sat on the dresser along with many sewing materials. The room seemed to reflect this craft as you noticed that buttons where everywhere around you. Your attention is quickly robbed by the most adorable bunny plushie you have ever seen! It has cute little button eyes and it’s so soft and fluffy to the touch, you can’t help but squeeze and nuzzle into it.
You giggle softly, feeling much better now than you were before. You decide to take the plushie just during this trip since you’re the only person in the palace. No one else will miss it.
You go back to the living room to finish the movie by yourself along with your little plushie. And maybe a bottle of vodka you found in the back of a cupboard. The two of you watch the movie while you drink who knows how much, before you feel yourself begin to drift off.
A loud clap of thunder wakes you up suddenly. Lifting your head off the couch and wiping away some of the drool on your chin, you groan and massage your temples gently, doing your best to ward off the hangover that is slowly creeping up to you. You notice the credits of the movie are playing so you grab the remote and turn it off. You had fallen asleep in the middle of it. You begin to snuggle back into the couch again only to realize your little fluffy friend is missing. You look everywhere around you but it’s nowhere to be found. Strange.
You go back into the strange room and you find the rabbit sticking out from underneath the bed. You must’ve imagined you took it with you and you actually dropped it. When you go to pick it up, you notice something weird on the other wall as you peek from under the bed. You stand up again and walk towards the wall where the wallpaper protruded in some areas, almost as if it was covering up something.
You take some scissors from the desk and you crouch down to cut along the dented areas of the wallpaper. You scoot back and look at what it’s revealed.
A tiny door. Just big enough for you to fit through. You try to pry it open but it’s locked. You rummage through the key drawer that Friend had showed You previously and one caught your eye. A black key with the shape of a button.
And with one flick of your wrist, the door is opened.
You debate whether you should go in alone in the middle of the night, but you’re too curious (and drunk) to ignore this great discovery.
“I hope I don’t find a rat’s nest at the end of this…”
You crawl through the surprisingly clean tunnel, lighting the way with your phone flashlight.
You reach the end and open the door to the other side to find…
The exact same room.
“What the hell? How did I end up in the same place?” You say out loud.
Suddenly, you noticed sounds coming from downstairs. You reach for the bunny plushie and the scissors and take them with you as you slowly stalk down the stairs.
You hear the muffled sounds of people talking and sound effects in the background and you figure the TV must be on. But you distinctly remember turning it off after the movie had ended…
You clutch the scissors tighter.
You walk into the living room, the lights and TV turned on, playing an old western movie. But you barely pay any attention to it as your gaze zeroes on the figure sitting on the couch, eating popcorn. You take a step forward, but to your luck, the wooden floor panel creaks oh so loudly.
The figure stiffens, most likely aware of your presence and you gulp, raising the scissors to attack the intruder. The figure cautiously turns around and every inch of hair on your body stands up.
Once he faces you, you freeze in shock. Is that..?
“Hey sweetheart~ I was just watching this while I waited for you. Ready for movie night~?” Friend smiles sweetly at you.
However, this Friend is dressed very differently from the one you’ve known your whole life. Also, he is blonde? And it looks good on him?? You curse his ability to look good in anything. But the thing that actually made you stop in your tracks and made your skin crawl were his eyes. Gone were the eyes full of life and wonder that often sucked you in when you gazed into them. In their place stood black buttons just like the ones on the plushie you’re clutching. They were piercing and unsettling to stare at. If it weren’t for the fact that the figure was moving and breathing right now, you’d most likely think he was a model made after your best friend. With some changes of course.
Your silence made this “Friend” tilt his head to the side and look at you with concern, or you figured it was. “Are you alright? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
“I have no idea what I’m looking at right now…” You murmur, gaze unwavering from this doppelgänger.
“Friend” chuckles in amusement and grins at you. “I’m Friend, silly! You know, your best friend since forever?”
You raise an eyebrow, keeping the scissors clutched tightly in your hand. “I don’t know exactly what you’re playing at, but you are not Friend. Friend is not blonde, he doesn’t own clothes like yours and he definitely doesn’t have buttons for eyes.”
This so-called “Friend” grins wider, unsettling so, but quickly disappears into a charming expression. “What, can’t a person try out a new look without their best friend threatening them with a pair of scissors?” He teases.
You give him a deadpan stare.
He coughs. “What I mean to say is…” He stands up and walks around the couch, approaching you casually. You can only stare in slight fear into his soulless eyes as each step brings him closer to you. He stands in front of you and gives you a reassuring smile. “I’m your Other Friend!”
“My Other Friend? What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Exactly what it sounds like! I’m your friend from another world. A world filled with wonder where everyone has buttons for eyes!” He says with bright smile and a glint in his button eyes. His voice sounding like a cheery animated character.
You blink. “Oh man, I must’ve drunk more than I thought…”
He laughs in amusement. “Maybe so… but why not try to enjoy this while you can? I’ve got popcorn and your favorite snacks. Aaaand we can watch any movie you want~” He sweetens the deal.
You raise your eyebrow, intrigued. “Is the popcorn extra butter?”
His grin widens. “Of course! What kind of best friend would I be if it wasn’t?”
You narrow your eyes and give him a firm nod. Before he could even attempt to come closer you point a finger at him, your expression full of suspicion. “I’m staying because I’m not fully convinced this isn’t a dream—“ You let out a loud hiccup. “…And I’m too drunk to walk back up the stairs.”
Other Friend giggles. “I understand.”
“I’m keeping the scissors, so don’t try anything funny!” You exclaim, sluggishly making your way towards the couch, slumping down on it.
“Wouldn’t dream of it~” He chuckles before sitting on the couch next to you.
While watching the movie in your drunken haze, you fail to notice your Other Friend’s grin grow possessive as you clutch the plushie he had made just for your arrival~

huh yunjin x f!reader
# tw ; cursing
# genre ; angst, squint for fluff
you’ve always wondered why you were huh yunjin’s victim. but as parents always say, ‘if a boy likes a girl, they’re mean to them’. does it apply here too?
it was still fresh in your memory, the sight of yunjin bowing as she repeatedly apologised. even after knowing her all these years, you were sure that it was the only time she ever said sorry to you. it was just fate that made you two stay in the same school for the rest of your education.
it was still fresh in your memory, the sight of yunjin bowing as she repeatedly apologised. even after knowing her all these years, you were sure that it was the only time she ever said sorry to you. it was just fate that made you two stay in the same school for the rest of your education.
it was still fresh in your memory, the sight of yunjin bowing as she repeatedly apologised. even after knowing her all these years, you were sure that it was the only time she ever said sorry to you. it was just fate that made you two stay in the same school for the rest of your education.
when you were 13 and she was 14, a rumour had spread around the school, saying that you liked this senior. kang hyunjae who was in the same grade as yunjin. she had teased you tremendously, always yelling for hyunjae whenever she saw you.
“stop doing that,” you muttered, hands closing in fists. yunjin cocked an eyebrow before laughing, “why would i stop?”
you were close to lashing out, “why are you doing this to me?”
“your reactions are funny. not my fault you like seniors.” you wanted to slap her. but after all, you were still in the hallway, trying to escape yunjin. you couldn’t even run. she had long legs and well. you weren’t the most athletic person alive.
and luckily for you, kang hyunjae walked past the two of you a second after and yunjin immediately perked up.
“look! it’s the love of your life!” she might as well yell. if you were a little more attentive, you would have heard how her voice wavered ever so slightly. but you wouldn’t have noticed it, you were too busy trying to keep the tears at bay.
the joke about you liking hyunjae went on for 2 more years, yunjin always reminding everyone of it and you were getting sick and tired. your parents had brushed you off, yunjin’s parents were close family friends and of course their daughter would be the same kind and caring girl her parents were.
“y/n!” you squeezed your eyes shut, bracing for whatever huh yunjin was about to say. it had been almost 7 years since you first met each other and she still lingered around you. and what could you do? yunjin was one of the popular girls, always outgoing and friendly. (to everyone but you.)
“what?”
“what’s your next class? i have 10 minutes to spare,” yunjin beamed at you. another thing you hated. she acted like the nicest person on the planet in front of others but you were sure that once all the students dispersed from the hallway, she would turn into a bitch again.
you almost refused to answer her but after a nudge on the shoulder, “i have history.”
yunjin smiled, “let me walk you there.”
you hesitated, feeling your heart thump whenever yunjin would shoot that pretty smile at you. but the longer you stared at her, the more you were reminded of the shit she did to you in school.
“please don’t,” you begged, “please leave me alone just for today.” you could swear yunjin’s eyes darkened as she frowned.
“i’m not going to do anything… y/n, i’m—” yunjin was interrupted by one of the soccer players yelling your name. you both whipped your heads and widened your eyes.
hyunjae was running towards you, a stupid grin on his face as he stopped, breath heaving.
“hey! i’m sorry i didn’t talk to you all those years ago, but i hope you’re still into me,” your cheeks reddened as he continued, “i think you’re super pretty, so could we hang out sometime?”
you could practically feel yunjin seething next to you. and that fact alone made you promise to hyunjae that you would meet up with him on a saturday for a date.
“you’re fucking kidding, right?” yunjin had asked after hyunjae left. you were at your locker, taking out your history books.
“what do you mean?”
“you were never into him in the first place! why the hell did he talk to you now?” yunjin exclaimed, annoyed, though you weren’t sure for what reason.
“i don’t know why you’re reacting like this. look yunjin, i’ve tolerated you for long enough and you’re honestly such an asshole. just leave me alone.”
the taller girl turned around, her gaze burning into yours. “are you just going to accept any type of attention from random guys?”
“why the hell are you saying that?” you stared at her, affronted, “leave me alone, yunjin. don’t act like you didn’t cause this in the first place. i don’t know why you’re such a bitch to me. you should grow up.”
“grow up? y/n i’m literally a year older than you.”
“and still acting like a child. why are you so angry over this? why are you acting like this?” you questioned as yunjin stared at you blankly.
a moment passed and she scoffed, trudging off in the opposite direction, leaving you pondering why she was so bothered about some guy asking you out. later, the intercom called for yunjin’s name and you watched as she walked past your classroom, her lip bleeding and knuckles bruised.
it was only after school when you saw yunjin again. her knuckles were wrapped in bandages and face covered with plasters. you wondered whether to talk to her but it seemed that once she caught your glance, yunjin seemed to brighten up slightly. you felt your stomach drop.
“hey, y/n.”
“are you okay?” you asked, concerned even though yunjin was an asshole. the girl smiled and shook her head.
“i’m being suspended for a day, won’t you miss me?” she asked and you swallowed audibly.
“no, i think it’ll be the happiest day of my life.”
yunjin’s smile dimmed but you didn’t notice. “yeah, sure.”
while yunjin annoyed you endlessly, you could never say you hated her. despite all the pranks she pulled, all the mean jokes she would say, you never uttered words of hatred.
not until you were 17 and she was 18. being elected student council president was a dream and an unreachable one in fact. you were appointed vice, but couldn’t help feeling upset at the fact that hwang yeji was president.
but that didn’t mean you were on bad terms with her, it was actually the opposite. the student council was flooded with tasks and errands to do every day, forcing you to spend more time with yeji and less with yunjin. it was actually better for you, not having to see yunjin’s face every second was refreshing. (or at least you convinced yourself it was.)
“y/n.” you ignore her. another paper ball comes flying at you. “y/n.”
“shut up.”
you had no idea who on earth let yunjin in. actually, it was probably kim chaewon, seeing how the two of them were best friends. but kim chaewon was actually a sweetheart. you still had no idea why she always lingered around you, mocking you for any mistake occurring.
“y/n.” you grit your teeth. if the paperwork wasn’t tiring enough, you had another child to babysit and this child knew how to swear.
“huh yunjin, what do you want? spit it out now or leave.”
“i want you to pay attention to me.”
“i’m doing paperwork. go find someone else,” you say, frustrated building up.
you see yunjin’s pout in the corner of your eye and you almost throw a chair at her.
“i don’t want anyone else.”
“why? ‘cause my reactions are funny? go find another girl to annoy, yunjin. i don’t have time for you anymore.”
right as yunjin is about to retort, the door opens and yeji pokes her head inside.
“y/n! there you are! oh, hi yunjin!” yeji greets, waving her hand. you frown at yunjin’s stubbornness to wave back or even acknowledge yeji’s presence.
“you’re looking for me?”
“yeah! it’s our break time, wanna go get ice cream?” yeji suggest. the mere thought of ice cream in the hot weather makes you salivate and you find yourself nodding instantly.
as you pack up your papers and get ready to leave, a grip catches your hand.
“y/n,” yunjin say slowly, “can i talk to you alone?” you smile sheepishly at yeji who closed the door, not before sending you a wink.
“yeah?”
yunjin tighten the grasp of your hand. “didn’t you say you were busy?”
“well yeji invited me—”
“what if i wanted to ask you too? why did you just agree to yeji and not even bother looking at me?” yunjin raises her voice. “if i were yeji, you would have just told me to go away! so what’s the difference between us?”
you look at her, confused.
“what are you talking about? yeji’s a close friend. i’m not sure why you’re so worked up over this.”
“because you… you said you were busy but once yeji comes, you’re suddenly free? and don’t tell me to find someone else!” she yell as you stumble back, startled.
you gulp, “stop yelling—”
“don’t tell me what to do! stop asking me to leave you alone! and just let me stay with you! for once!”
a knock is heard on the door.
“y/n, you okay in there?” yeji’s concerned voice makes yunjin’s blood boil further and she once again pulls your wrist tighter.
“tell her to leave,” yunjin almost growls out. you had never seen her so angry before and it was actually frightening.
heart racing, you place your free hand on her collarbone, in case she were to make any rash decisions. “yeji? i need to deal with some stuff first. you go on without me, okay? sorry, i’ll go with you next time.”
after yeji’s agreement to leave, you turn your attention back to yunjin who was breathing heavily.
“what’s wrong with you?”
she doesn’t reply and instead focuses her gaze onto the hand lingering on the intersection between her collarbone and shoulder. you bring it higher and rub her shoulder soothingly. she was clearly still worked up about god knows what and you had to calm her down before she started yelling again.
“stop shouting like a spoiled brat. i’ve given you my attention for these past few years and you’ve only been an asshole to me. so don’t act like this when i’m finally happy with the people around me,” yunjin looks down, ashamed. “i’m serious. i don’t know why you’re so hellbent on annoying me. i don’t know why you always act like this. you’ve made me cry so many times, you know that?”
“i…”
“can you act your age for once? i’ve dealt with you long enough. i want you to seriously leave me alone,” you sigh, adjusting the hem of her shirt to be proper.
yunjin looks up and for a moment, you think she’s finally understood where you’re coming from. but she raises her hand and there is only a slap heard in the room. you can only stare at her from the side, a tired look on your face with a stinging cheek.
“i thought you wouldn’t lay a hand on me,” you say quietly. the silence drags on and yunjin seems to just realise what she did.
“i-i didn’t mean… y/n, i’m sorry—”
“i fucking hate you, yunjin. i hope you do well in the future. i would apologise but don’t think you’ve done anything to receive an apology from me.”
yunjin eyes you desperately, holding any part of your body she could reach.
“y/n, i’m so sorry, fuck, i didn’t mean that..”
you shake your head and brush her hands off you. she looks at you, pleading as you take out your cell phone and message yeji. and just as you’re about to leave, you feel strong arms wrap themselves around your torso, yunjin’s heavy breathing making the hairs on the back of your neck stand.
“don’t go. please.”
your heart thumps.
“y/n, please don’t go to her.”
a shiver runs through your body as she whispers.
“just please listen to me, okay? if after all of this, you still want to leave… i’ll let you go,” you nod stiffly and try to turn around but yunjin stops you, “i can’t watch your reaction. don’t turn around.” you nod again.
“that time i made fun of you for liking hyunjae. it was because i heard that his friend had a crush on you and i wanted him to not confess,” you frown, “so i told everyone you liked hyunjae and made sure it spread to his friends. i didn’t expect… for him to actually like you.”
“so?” you ask, “i still have no idea what you’re trying to say.”
yunjin takes a deep breath. “i’ve had a crush on you since we first met in primary school. you were so pretty and cute and i was a dumb kid who thought that the only way you could express your feelings to someone was by being mean. i liked you when hyunjae confessed and i was so upset about it, i went to go find him. and he was bragging to his friends about how he managed to delude you… i couldn’t control myself and i just punched him. that’s why i was suspended for a day.” she sighs.
“what—”
“i love you now, when you smile at cat videos, trip over air, accidentally hit your head on cabinets… i love you so much and i’m so jealous of yeji for always being near you,” yunjin confesses and you feel the air being swept away from your lungs. “me loving you isn’t an excuse for how i treated you. but please forgive me. it’s all my fault. don’t leave me. i love you so much, y/n.”
a strange sensation hits your neck and you realise yunjin is crying. you squirm out of her grasp and gently pat her back as she tucks her face into the crook of your neck. the height difference makes it awkward but you only focus on her.
huh yunjin, the bane of your existence and apparently, you’re the only reason she exists.
“i’m still upset. you slapped me, yunjin.”
“i… i know.”
“don’t do that ever again, okay?” as you utter those words and rub her back, comforting her, yunjin bursts into tears and sobs into your neck. “i’m so sorry.”
“it’s okay. you’ll just have to work extra hard for my attention. but no jealous fights or mean insults anymore. and if you hit me again, i’ll be gone from your life forever,” you mumble.
yunjin looks up at you with teary eyes and you feel your heart stutter.
“i love you, y/n.”

Part 2
This time around, Dustin let Will handle the camera. Not only because he was super busy on this day, but Will had also proven himself a talented director. He was currently capturing grade A gold of Steve deciding which hair products to pack away for the day.
He had packed and unpacked the bag at least three times while Dustin was making final arrangements in the kitchen by phone.
“Steve, I swear to god!”
“Hey! No yelling. You promised this would be the one day, no yelling”, Steve snapped.
Dustin huffed, then returned to his phone call.
“I think you’ll look fine”, Will said from behind the camera. “Eddie’s gonna love how you look no matter what.”
Steve smiled fondly at him for that. “Remind me why I didn’t make you my best man again?”
“Because Dustin would have skinned you alive?”
“Yeah, that’s why”, Steve nodded. He figured out his perfect products and closed up the bag. “Alright. I’m ready to get married.”
More like he was ready to begin preparing for the process to start getting ready to be married. But he was ready all the same.
Dustin was his best man. For the record, he had asked Robin first. But then she spent about an hour rambling about how horrible of a job she’d do with the planning and her anxiety and ruining his perfect day while being incredibly flattered and Steve decided to take her out of her misery.
“Just be where I need you”, he had said.
“Can do.”
--------------------
While Steve went into a small room to get started on his hair, Dustin talked to Will, camera off.
“Okay, we’ve got a small window here. You ready for this?”
“You really think they’ll like it?”, Will asked.
“Those saps? They’ll be showin’ it to their grandkids”, Dustin said.
Will beamed. They could do this. And hopefully Steve and Eddie would appreciate the thought behind it.
-----------------
Eddie had proposed on January 2nd, 1990. He definitely planned to do a whole New Year’s thing, but had both chickened out and gotten distracted (another story for another time). But when he finally nutted up, he had told Steve he didn’t want another decade to go by without Steve being his husband.
“I’ve wanted this since the first time I saw you in a mosh pit, babe.”
“Eddie, that was three years ago.”
“Three years of torture.” Of not really knowing what the future held for them. Of knowing that even if they belonged to each other in every other way, it wouldn’t be recognized in many people’s eyes. But Eddie finally decided that he officially didn’t care if it wasn’t official. It was real to him and the man he loved. That made it more real than anything else.
And now he was staring at him, with El standing as officiator. She had been the flower girl at her first wedding (Joyce and Jim’s) and had been very fascinated with the person who got to actually marry the couple. She cleared her throat and began to speak, welcoming all the guests in a voice that was strong and full of adoration for the idea of two people professing their love in front of an audience of family and friends.
Then it came time for vows and Eddie typically didn’t shy away from his feelings but he had planned wear even more of his heart on his sleeve. Not only had Steve’s parents responded to the invite, they had attended. And he was gonna let them know just how special their son was.
When it was Steve’s turn, he was definitely already tearing up, but he got out everything he wanted to say. He wondered briefly if Robin saw a similar future for herself or Will.
But then El was practically bouncing on her heels to say her favorite part of all this and anything pertaining to non-Eddie thoughts left his mind.
“I now pronounce you husband and husband. You may kiss the groom.”
It really was the sweetest kiss Steve had ever received.
--------------------
The musical selection at the reception was probably the oddest playlist possible but both grooms had wanted everyone to have a chance on the dance floor. Once it into full swing, everyone was getting a little of the grooms’ attention. And if it wasn’t the guests, they had their eyes on each other. So they could be forgiven for not noticing when a few of their friends disappeared.
Will, Jonathan, Nancy, and Dustin had left the hall to prepare their gift for the couple. When it was ready, Dustin walked out onto the stage to get everyone’s attention.
“A few of us have made something special for the men of the hour. Steve, Eddie, with all due respect: I told you so. And without further ado, solid proof that I am always right.”
A video began playing on a projector. One with Eddie and Steve as the focus, with Dustin obviously narrating from behind the camera. It was a little shakey, but something in Steve’s heart cracked at hearing Dustin’s still cracky voice from years ago, putting his own little spin on his and Eddie’s courtship.
“That little shit”, Steve whispered when the scene of him in the bathroom came up. But it had none of the bite it normally did when he was tearing up. Eddie brought his hand to his lips and kissed his knuckles. He was feeling a little vindication seeing their romance from the outside. In some of the scenes, Steve looked just as nervous as he had been. He had just been too blinded by love at the time to notice.
But then it changed from clips of their budding romance to the current events of today.
As Dustin had been busy with best man business, Will was handling the camera and Lucas was voicing over for Steve’s actions from outside a window.
“On this, the most important day of his life, Steve is attended by the most trusted members of his pack.”
Steve sat in front of a mirror while Robin did his hair, slapping his hands away every time he tried to interfere. Dustin was using a lint roller on his suit. Steve’s face was a storm of emotion as he tried to fidget with his hair. But Robin was on top of her game today.
“In less than an hour, Steve will officially enter a pair bond for life. Now let’s check in with Eddie.”
The shot changed to Eddie’s preparation. And while Steve anxious feelings were palpable, yet under control, Eddie was letting them all gush forth in the adrenaline thick atmosphere among his groomsmen.
“I’m gonna marry him!”, he shouted.
“You’re gonna marry him!”, Gareth and Jeff shouted back.
Eddie was pacing wildly around the room, sometimes pausing to hop on his feet. “I’m getting married today. I’m marrying Steve. Let’s go! Let’s do this! Nancy! Hit me!”
Nancy obliged him with a slap on the face and that got him even more hype, lifting the energy of the room even more. The handler of the camera turned it towards themselves, revealing Mike was the one recording. And he was definitely wondering how he got here. Then he turned it back towards Eddie.
“Okay, I just gotta ask one last time...”
Nancy gave him a warning look. “Mike...”
“Why Steve?”
Eddie’s smile got even bigger if that was possibly. “He’s belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Mini Wheels. It’s like I’m in little league and I hit a home run against a pro. You shouldn’t be asking me ‘why Steve?’ You should be asking me how.”
Steve turned to Eddie and was trying to convey just how with only his eyes. As they had just described in vivid detail in words. Eddie got the message and kissed him again.
The video went on to show the actual wedding, Will and Jonathan handling two cameras and then a third, floating at an impossible angle. Leave it to El to work double time for such an occasion.
Seeing it all again from the outside...It had really happened, hadn’t it?
“We’re married, baby”, Eddie beamed.
When the video ended, they were kissing each other again. And again and again and for once, Dustin’s self righteous attitude didn’t rain on their parade. If anything they were actually proud of him for seeing what they hadn’t. You’ll never get them to admit it though.

hi there! im wondering if you have any fics recs for an au where peter doesnt get blipped? or also any OP/insanely strong peter fics you enjoy? i’m fairly new to reading spiderman fics and would love any recs! thanks!! 💖
Hi!! Sorry it took so long to respond. It's been a busy couple of weeks!! But I totally have a few BAMF Peter Parker fics in my bookmarks! And one very good fic where neither Tony nor Peter blipped.
🕸 to fear and to fly by idyllic_dae Rated T
“You’ll come to learn that there’s only one thing worse than having nothing.” Trying to hold onto his fight, Peter shoots back, “Yeah? And what’s that?” “To have nothing, after being able to believe you could have everything.”
The streets are dirty, crowded, and the jagged bumps in the asphalt are hardly comfortable to sleep on. They’re home, though.
Peter is just about finished with New York City. It’s gotten impossibly harder to find even a scrap of food, and what little belongings he does have are unlikely to keep him alive through the winter. And the memories. God, the painful memories here.
So he saves up. Makes a plan to get out of there.
Then, somehow, he accidentally saves Tony fucking Stark from a gang of eight mercenaries, and the majestic plan disintegrates into ash.
The worst part about it, he knows, isn’t even that he met Tony. It’s that Tony met him.
^^ This one is incomplete still but it is SO VERY GOOD.
🕸 Trojan Teenager by Sara (ctrsara) @ctrsara Rated T
Tony, Peter, Happy, and Daren make a trip to California during Peter's Spring Break, both to get some business done at SI-Malibu, and to look into another hotspot for the human trafficking ring they've been trying to break down. As it often does when self-sacrificial Spider-kids are involved, things go a little off the rails.
^^ This one is part of a series but can be read alone. However, I highly recommend the whole series! It's crazy creative and super well-written.
🕸 turn back the clock (and I'll try again in the morning) by madasthesea @madasthesea Rated T
Peter gets stuck in a time loop. In it, he lives through some of his worst nightmares, only to wake up that morning and have no one remember. He needs Tony to help him get through.
And if that isn't bad enough, his identity is revealed over and over, every day.
^^ This fic has me on the edge of my seat every time I read it, I swear
🕸 The Worst Field Trip by mak5258 Rated G
Peter's kidnapping (Before You Go, chapter 40) from other POVs.
^^ This is part of a much larger series but can be read alone. It's sooo good! If you're looking for a longer read, it's parent fic, Before You Go , is also great.
🕸Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spider by Bergen Rated T
“Tony fucking Stark,” Clint says, and he points at the black smoke. “Did you blow up that base, you piece of shit?” “Absolutely not. I almost got blown up with it.” Clint is not alone. A few yards behind him, a scrawny figure halts and squints at Tony from underneath a frayed baseball cap. Sunken eyes. Dressed in a black undershirt and cargo pants. Can’t be older than eighteen. “What are you doing here?” Clint jerks his head at the boy behind him. “SHIELD mission. Extracting a hostage.” Tony glances back at the teenager, whose face has now morphed into something entirely impassive. “He seems thrilled about his rescue.” — Tony is roped into a mission to transport a teenager to safety. But when things go south, it soon becomes more and more puzzling who the teenager is and what ‘safety’ means for him.
^^ Oh my goodness. This one has a super strong stoic Peter, who also manages to (eventually) be so super soft. I love everything by the writer, honestly.
🕸 Peter Protection Protocol by JAWorley Rated T
"The hell?" Knife guy breathes. He looks at Tony, and then back at the suit. Ned can hear the wheels spinning in his mind. If I have Iron Man, then who is in the suit?
There’s silence for a second, then another. Everyone waits with baited breath until Peter’s tinny voice comes out of the suit. “Give me back my Tony.”
OR
Peter’s class barely makes it in the door to Stark Industries for their field trip when they find themselves in a hostage situation. Peter and Ned know exactly what they have to do to save Mr. Stark from the bad guys. A short fic that’s supposed to be fun and easy to read. Not crack, just fun. Minor angst near the end.
^^ This author has SO MANY super fun and amazing fics, but this one definitely fits the BAMF Peter Parker bill.
Insane Mistakes Everybody Makes by Fluencca Rated T
The Avengers' kids are kidnapped for leverage and ransom. Tony tries to find them, while Peter--who somehow is part of this mess--tries to keep the kids safe.
^^ Love this one so much. It has all the amazing BAMF Peter.
🕸 Survivor's Guide to The Galaxy by fanfic1892 Rated T
Space rock crunched under Peter’s armor-clad feet and he dropped his hand from his eyes, turning to Tony. "Mister Stark," he said softly. "What do we do now?”
The question was entirely reasonable, Tony supposed, but being the one expected to answer it was like an infinity gauntlet punch to the gut. (Now there was a unit of measurement he could submit to the CGPM.)
Or: In a billion-to-one cosmic fluke, Tony and Peter both survive the snap and are left alone on Titan with an alien spaceship and no plan in sight. Peter’s presence brings Tony to make a tough call: diverting their course away from Earth in search of food and fuel. With the galaxy in shambles and no clear route home, the two survivors must carve out a path of their own somewhere in the great infinity.
^^ This is one of my favorite fics of all time.
As usual, I could go on for days with fics I love and would love to share with others. But we'll stop here for now. lol. And look! I didn't even self-promote this time! Thank you so much for asking. Don't forget to leave kudos and comments!!

If you get this, answer with 3 random facts about yourself and send it to the last 7 blogs in your notifications, anonymously or not! Let's get to know the person behind the blog!
(hope you’re doing well btw! re-reading your fics has brought me comfort in these trying times lol)
Wow this totally didn’t go through when I tried to post it this morning. Anyway! Thank you so much! I’m glad my fics bring people comfort.
I’ve been working on finishing up my bachelor’s degree lately! I’ll be finished with that in a week or so. And I’m switching between jobs at the moment so I’m super busy. BUT I SWEAR more fic is on the way! And I’ll get through some more asks soon as well!
I do not have a green thumb. I don’t know how the two I have are still alive. They’ve nearly died like three times in the last year but STILL they persist. (They are but a shadow of their former selves)
I don’t wear a lot of makeup every day but I almost always am wearing some kind of lipstick. I just love how it feels and looks.
I love having a little sweet treat. Probably love it too much. 🧋

Marriage. 36
Chapter 36: Where’s daddy?
Daddy’s dead? That’s impossible. Daddy can’t die. Wait. If what he say is true, then daddy saved me from that meanie man. But now I’m stuck with the meanie Piccolo monster. Well, until he threw me at a mountain. So, mean. He then made me take off my coat, and left me. I’m all alone. No! I’m scared. I WANT MOMMY! I WANT DADDY! Daddy? Daddy is dead. Nobody is coming this time. Mommy can’t do what daddy does, when I get lost. Mommy always sends daddy to find me.
Today is just awful. A meanie uncle hurt my daddy, and is the reason daddy is gone. A meanie Piccolo won’t let me go home, and is the one who killed daddy. He didn’t say it, but how else is he alive and not daddy too. I don’t want to admit it, but uncle meanie was nicer. He didn’t hit me, until I hit him first; from what Piccolo said. Uncle meanie didn’t throw me at a mountain. He tossed me into that round thing, and it didn’t really hurt. Also, uncle meanie didn’t scream at me, unless I was crying. But overall, uncle did talk to me nicer. He was annoyed, but he did speak nicer. If I didn’t run, he wouldn’t have put me in the thingy. Could it be possible that all uncles are just big meanie butts. Uncle meanie probably didn’t have a mommy to tell him he was being mean. If he had a mommy, maybe he would have been nicer and I would be ok that he was my uncle. Uncle Raditz just needs to get a good spanking from his mommy. So, wait, what is my grandma would be like? Well, can’t worry about that now.
This place is super scary, but I have to be brave. I have to do what I can for 6 months, then that meanie Piccolo will be back. Meanie Piccolo? Does he have a mommy?
…
Boy is this thing long. I wonder how Chichi and Gohan are doing. I hope my little man is keeping mommy happy for me. Don’t worry you two. When daddy comes back, and take care of these bad guys, daddy is going to be home more. Daddy promise will stop fighting, and just spend everyday with you. Then again, I can’t think like that. What if someone strong than these guys comes along? NO! I have to keep training to protect you and mommy!
I can’t let anyone hurt my family ever, ever again! My family safety is my top priority! Chichi would understand. Chichi. My heart aches for you. I hope you’re ok. I wish I could have had enough strength to tell you what was happening. I wonder how my friends told you of my death. Did you get angry? Cried? NO! My Chichi shouldn’t have to go through this! Chichi should only be happy. Gohan should only be happy. My family should only be happy!
I finally broke down. I couldn’t hold back anymore. I finally let the tears fall. DAMN IT! I WASN’T STRONG ENOUGH! I punch damn snake way. I failed them! I failed again! NO! I keep punching. I wasn’t strong enough. I wasn’t strong to protect them! I wasn’t strong enough to protect grandpa. I wasn’t strong enough to keep my Gohan safe! I just keep punching. Why do the people I love so much have to suffer! WHY? Why can’t I ever keep them safe? I’m a failure!
I slapped myself. Look at me. If Chichi was here, she would be mad at me for talking all this nonsense. “You’re so strong, Goku. There’s no fight too big for you. Now get your butt up, and prove me right!” I swear I could hear her. But yeah. I gotta get off my butt, and get through this. Gohan and Chichi are counting on me. My friends are counting on me. Earth, my home is counting on me. Most importantly. My family needs me!
…
It only been a month and I still haven’t found my Gohan. I do hope he’s ok. It’s been a while still I used ki. Maybe I should train again, and practice in that too. If I train, I could have a better chance to get Gohan back. I hope he isn’t hurt. Now let me finish the laundry.
…
That meanie robot was nice after all. Daddy was right. People can change. Even though I get chase by this dinosaur, and that funny tiger, it’s kind of fun. It keeps me busy. Plus, it’s like they kind of my pets. If daddy saw me now, he would be laughing. Probably telling me something encouraging to keep going. Heck, dinosaur tail makes good breakfast. Way better than fish. Looks like I finally found my favorite; daddy would probably be super happy. He always wanted me to try dinosaur, but mommy would say no.
Oh look, it’s Mr. Tiger. Guess it’s time to play. Actually, Mr. Tiger looks tired today. So, I guess I could practice those things daddy does. How does it go again? Oh yeah! Start with right leg back. This feel weird. I hope I’m doing it right. If daddy was here, he would tell me. Oh, what daddy does look just like those pictures in that book, mommy gave me. Punch, punch, kick, kick, and repeat. I’m going to repeat till I get it right. I’m going to make daddy and mommy proud of me! That I promise.
…
I’m so hungry. Wish I had Chichi’s homecooked meals. Like her hot pot, with wolf shish kebab, and maybe a side grill deer. Just thinking of her cooking is making me even more hungry. I wonder how long I been laying here. Once the fighting is done, I’m going to ask Chichi to make all my favorites. That includes her famous apple pie. Gohan loves her apple pie, too. I bet they’re eating one right now, and sharing my piece. Hope you’re making mommy smile, while waiting for me.
…
101, 102, 103… 200! Looks like lunch still got time, so one more set.
…
What is Mr. Piccolo doing? WHOA! Where that wind come from? Hold on Mr. Tiger! I wonder how Mr. Piccolo did that. That was cool! Can my daddy do that too? Ok, Mr. Tiger let’s let Mr. Piccolo alone.
Wait! I was on an island this whole time? How is that even possible? How am I going to get off? Maybe I could finally see mommy! Mommy would be so happy to see me. And I can have her hot baths, and yummy food, and warm hugs. But… But it won’t be the same without daddy. Maybe I can at least see mommy. Just check up on her. Just let mommy know I’m ok. I hope Mr. Piccolo doesn’t notice.
Mommy was right about making friends with other kids. This is so much fun! But if mommy and daddy knew I was stealing they be mad. But I have to, how else am I gonna eat. I can’t believe he left the other kids. “We have to go—” He punched me. But I thought… I thought… He’s right. Gotta do what’s right, even if it hurts. Is that how daddy feels when he goes off training? Does it hurt daddy to leave me and mommy? I want to cry. Does daddy hurt? How much does daddy hurt? How much does mommy hurt? Mommy? Mommy! I’m coming home, mommy!
I see her, she right there. Just a few more steps. Just turn around mommy. Mommy! I’m right here! I miss you mommy! I can’t… I can’t yet. Mommy, please wait a little longer. Please wait a little longer. When this over, me and daddy aren’t going anywhere. Me and daddy will protect you. Me and daddy will keep you safe! You’re important to us mommy. I love you mommy.
Mr. Piccolo. I’m ready. Train me!
…
Gohan? I thought I felt him near. Maybe it was him. Maybe he did try to come home, but the monster stopped him. Don’t worry baby, I believe in you. Mommy will wait for you, forever and ever.
Now to get back to making this welcome home blanket, for Gohan. Then I could work on Goku’s.
…
I finally made it! Whoa! I feel like I’m being crushed. So, this monkey is King Kai? Oh no, it’s this blue guy. He wants me to tell a joke. Why? What’s the point of that?
Wow, this is hard, but I can do it! Got to remember my goal. They need me to get stronger. They need me, and I’m not failing a second time. “You keep saying they. Who’s they?” Wait! He can read minds? “Yes.” Crap! “Why you say that.”
“No reason King Kai. And they are my family. My son and wife.” He gave me a funny look, and then got back to clearing his car. Now to get that damn monkey!
Two months on this planet and I’m really starting to get used to it. I finally caught Bubbles, and I hit Gregory. Now King Kai is going to train me at other techniques. No time for rest, got to get back into training.
A year has been up? Wow, that was… quick. OH NO! CRAP! I BETTER HURRY OR I’LL BE LATE! Please hold on for me. Guys keep everyone ok till I get there.
…
I can’t do this. These guys are so much stronger than us. I’m only a kid. I shouldn’t be here. Daddy, where are you? I’m scared. I panicked and I failed Mr. Piccolo. Now he’s angry at me. Mr. Krillin is trying to cheer me up, but it’s not working. I gotta pee. Oh no, that guy almost hit me. “You big smelly idiot!” That Vegeta guy laughed at that. But he’s the one I’m scared the most of.
Oh no! It’s my fault. It’s all my fault! Mr. Piccolo!
…
What is Gohan doing here? He looks stronger. Oh no! I’m not going to make it. NO! HE NOT HURTING GOHAN! NOT THIS TIME! OR EVER AGAIN!
“Daddy!” I so badly want to give my little boy a hug, but I can’t right now. First, got to take care of these guys, then I can finally hold my son.
“Leave. Go to mommy.”
“But daddy.”
“Gohan.” I really don’t like speaking harshly to him, but he needs to go. He gives my leg a quick hug, and I watch him go off with Krillin. Now to deal with Vegeta.
…
Why is daddy telling me to look up? Oh, that’s a pretty ball. It looks just like a—

The Clover Moon - Chapter One
My parents and I live in Levagish, a small town with less than fifty people, so that meant that I didn't really know what the outside world was like for a while, which was honestly embarrassing…
Plus this place isn't really known to have any magical ruins or anything like that, and yet the children here including me were born with abilities rather than the adults here which kinda made me feel I was someone special and had a place in the world.
Mother: “Chris! Would you be a dear and get some firewood from the west side, the north is starting to turn dangerous and I wouldn't want you to get hurt.”
Chris: “Okay! I'll be back in a bit then”
I sigh and pick up my ax and start heading into the woods
Chris: “I swear sometimes I wonder why she just can't send Dad to go out sometimes, it's not like he's doing anything other than making magical crappy items…”
As I'm walking towards the woods I see long behold one of my friends from middle school and she's just sitting on a log reading like always but she's always cute while doing it, it's kinda rude just to interrupt her at all
Chris: “Hey Taiyō, reading again huh”
Taiyō: “Oh yea, I've been really busy lately with this book. I kinda haven't had time to go back home or anything…”
Chris: “I mean I kinda don't blame you, I mean your parents are out to the capital right?”
I sit down beside her and look at her with curiosity trying to figure her out, even though I've known her for a while I kinda don't really know that much about her but she's seemed nice so why not.
Taiyō: “Yea they are, but I don't really mind they had left me a food circle so that I could summon food at any time so I'll manage, but thanks I really appreciate your worry.”
She grins at me, causing me to blush ever so slightly. I try to force a corrupting thought in my mind; that she’s just a kind person at heart, and there’s no romantic tension between us. Although she does this frequently…
Chris: “Oh that's right, have you heard anything from Raison at all? I haven't seen him around his house lately… well I mean, what used to be his house.”
Taiyō: “No, I haven’t really seen him at all for a week now. I thought he was going to live with the Flarners next door to him, but I know that he gets scared too easily, I just hope he’s alright tonight at the awakening ceremony.”
Chris: “Oh right, the ceremony I forgot all about, I’m so pumped to see what ability I’m going to get. It'll be something cool like telekinesis, psychokinesis, or maybe even become a super genius. I just know it’ll be great.”
It’s justifiable for teenagers to be excited about the awakening ceremony, this is the day that they’ll be able to have their abilities and be able to get into great academies around the country.
This would be when everyone could find out about their future careers and be able to set out into the world, but most dream about becoming adventures.
Each magical ability has a symbol that represents what class and what they are as a ranking the highest being merger magic which hasn’t been heard off ever since the Moon War seven thousand years ago the closest to that ability though would be plasma magic, and the lowest magic would be helium magic mostly due to the fact that it only levitates certain things and is very weak for any form of combat. But that all depends on the balance of fate…
Raison: “You know that magic like that isn’t really realistic, well in your case at least…”
Taiyō: “Look who decided to join us.”
Taiyō looks at Raison and giggles while I look at him in confusion, what does he mean “Isn’t really realistic” he could really be a pain sometimes, but it's whatever besides it’s not like its guaranteed that he’ll get something better than me, but even so I’m glad that the guy is alright a well… alive.
Chris: “And where the hell were you man?! Taiyō just told me that you were just gone for a whole week, you gotta take care of yourself more.”
Raison: “I don’t really think about you two that much as you think, besides what I do should be none of your guys business at all it's not like the whole town was going to look for me anyways.”
Taiyō: “Well if that’s how you feel that would just mean that me and Chris are going to have to care even more for you, right Chris?”
Taiyō looks at me with a reassuring stare and I look back at her a bit flustered and then I look back at Raison showing that I’m by Taiyō’s side about Raison’s sudden disappearance.
Chris: “Yea, it’s not like we’re just gonna give up on you.”
Raison: “Wow, you fell over quickly huh?”
Chris: “Hey, did not! I’m just a great friend is all.”
I think to myself and I completely remember that I had to go get some firewood, I had gotten so distracted that I had completely forgotten about my mothers request and I quickly got up from the log I was sitting on and grabbed my ax.
Chris: “Sorry I just remembered I had to do something for my mom. I'll be right back.”
Taiyō: “Alright, don’t take too long kay.”
Raison: “Don’t get too far, some bandits were spotted…”
Taiyō: “You should go with him then, you can’t just say something like that and not go with him at all y’know.”
Raison: “Do I really have to, I mean it’s not that big dea– “
Taiyō: “I said go… pleaseee”
Ten minutes later me and Raison start walking to find good wood to find for later.
I look at Raison, seemingly embarrassed that he had to tag along with me just to find some wood, which in my honest opinion should’ve seen that coming in advance.
Chris: “Hey, if you're gonna look all pouty over there then the least you could do is find a good log to cut down or something, I really don’t wanna get a whole rant from my mom at all today.”
Raison: “Yea whatever, it’s not my fault she did that face at me, besides I was doing better things before I went to you two.”
Chris: “Why? You felt lonely?”
Raison: “I felt fine.”
Raison: “I’ll look for the wood for you but after that I’m heading back, I gotta get ready for the awakening ceremony too.”
Chris: “Oh yea… What was that crap you said about how my choices in abilities were unrealistic or something, I think those would suit me just fine.”
Raison: “Are you an idiot, it’s not about if the ability suits you or not, it’s mostly judged by what commonly fits you through-out your day to day life… take a rabbit for example, it mostly hangs around nature and connects to the ground, so that rabbit would most definitely have an ability that connects to the ground, nature, or just plants.”
Chris: Oh right, that makes a lot of sense huh, man now I’m starting to second guess now thanks to you, y’know you're such a pain in th-.”
As I talked a hatchet was swung at me and I was able to back away in time but it scratched my chin in the process, the guy was holding a black bag with the other hand and was glaring at me with the intent of killing, his eyes were blue yet cold and had a mask covering the bottom half of his face but still didn’t have a hoodie on his head or anything, but all that didn’t really matter to me, not one bit, I’m actually quite glad he made the first move, so that way I could beat the shit out of him properly!

And then it’s Pepito’s birthday. Roier ends up having to work late, so Pepito FaceTimes Awelo Foolish and Leo for a bit before going to bed. And Foolish thinks it’s a little weird that Pepito is going to bed at six pm on a Friday, but Pepito’s a weird kid! Who’s Foolish to judge?
Pepito gets some money out of Apa Roier’s Secret Money Hole beneath the couch, and he embarks on an epic quest to spend his birthday with one of his newest and bestest friends.
First, Pepito stops at a gas station and gets a popsicle. It looks like Spider-Man, so Pepito just kinda holds onto it like it’s a teddy bear until it starts to melt on the bus to the hospital. Then Pepito has to eat it quick, but he cries a little because he likes how the popsicle looks, not how it tastes :(
Upon getting to the hospital, Pepito is a little surprised to see John Doe’s room more busy than usual. Normally it’s just Pepito and Apa Roier and a nurse, but today there are two nurses!
The nurses smile at Pepito when Pepito pokes Pepito’s head into the room. They’re used to him by now, he’s been John Doe’s only real visitor this entire time.
Pepito is overjoyed to see that John Doe, still asleep, has had the popcorn plush tucked under his blanket with him. The nurses really are amazing!
Before too long, the nurses leave, their checkup done for the time being.
Pepito hops onto Pepito’s usual chair, and Pepito starts to talk.
“It’s my birthday,” Pepito says. “Apa Roier isn’t here, though. He’s working, but that’s fine. We’ll probably have cake tomorrow if he remembers to buy it.”
John Doe doesn’t respond. Of course he doesn’t, he’s asleep!
“I’m…” Pepito pauses to count on Pepito’s fingers. “…six today! Apa Roier says that that means I’m getting super old and that I’m gonna die soon just like his other son and his abuelo and his Tilin, but I’m not that old.”
Pepito looks at the white streaks in John Doe’s hair. He could’ve sworn than his hair was all brown, but maybe he’s getting older, too. (Do sleeping people age??)
Vaguely, Pepito recalls a picture of Black Cat that Apa Roier used to keep on their fridge and swear at. Black Cat’s hair is all white, but that’s probably because Black Cat was, like, super old.
“I’m only six,” Pepito says. “So Apa Roier says that I should stop caring about finding Spider-Man and grow up. But that doesn’t sound like fun. And who else is gonna look for him if I don’t? Nobody’s looking.”
Pepito thinks of Apa Roier’s heartbroken face when they watched the footage of Spider-Man’s last fight on the news. It was against Kingpin’s men, Pepito thinks, and then the building blew up.
He’s so caught up in his memories that he doesn’t notice John Doe’s eyes moving beneath his eyelids, nor does he notice the subtle shifting of his lips as he tries to speak for the first time in over half a year.
[Cellbit’s throat is hoarse and his body feels as heavy as an anchor, but…]
Pepito jumps as he hears someone cough.
Eyes widening, Pepito looks at John Doe just in time to hear him mumble a tired and slurred, “Spider-Man is missing?”
When the nurses run into the room, one comments that John Doe must be the luckiest man alive.
[Ironic, isn’t it?]
AU in which all Pepito wants is for Pepito’s dad to start smiling again. Pepito knows that Apa Roier is a HUGE fan of Spider-Man, aka Quesadilla City’s most popular superhero, but he’s been real sad since Spider-Man stopped hero-ing a couple months ago when his rival and WORST ENEMY Black Cat disappeared. And Pepito just wants Roier to be happy, so Pepito’s just gotta find Spider-Man and make him a hero again! (And maybe Pepito can get his autograph, because Spider-Man is Pepito’s favorite hero too!!!)
[An au in which Roier retires as a hero when the man he was working up the nerve to ask out vanished into thin air in a factory explosion after a fight gone wrong. He never even got to find out Black Cat’s name, and now he never will…]
[And, an au in which Cellbit has been stuck in the hospital for months in a coma, and all he’s been dreaming of is the masked hero he’s in love with.]

THE AIR BETWEEN US FT. SUNA RINTAROU
synopsis: your best friend comes to a realization when you go out on a date — leaving him all alone in his brand new home.
contains: female reader. best friend suna. brief mentions and allusions to marriage. reader is a bit oblivious to rin’s feelings. swearing. lotta banter. one small part features jus rinnie (while reader is on her date) 2.8k words.
note: okok i’ve never written smth like this before but i’m so super proud of it and had so much fun ?!? ahhhh :’)
rintarou’s apartment is warm.
a little place about five minutes from the heart of downtown—rather mundane, and lacking a bit of everything. he has a few decorative pillows and other small trinkets, most of which were pawned off on him by his mother as he was moving out.
almost everything else he now owns was bought on a whim, with no regard for how any of it would tie together in a room. luckily, he had no desire for colour, and opted for neutrals when available.
his home is often quiet, lifeless—whether he’s there or he’s not, varying shades of navy blue seep through the blinds and cast dark shadows onto his walls.
he’s adjusting to it—the solitude. getting himself out of bed every morning, no incessant nagging from his father about it being half past noon, no music blaring from his younger sister’s room. it’s just him, the buzzing of his toothbrush, and the little sticker on his bathroom mirror that reads hello gorgeous, courtesy of atsumu.
and yet, out of the handful of times you’ve been there, the space has felt nothing but alive—with artificial orange hues filling the rooms, and the scent of freshly sprayed linen hanging in the air. even with the crisp breeze floating in through the wide open windows, it’s warm.
but sometimes, it’s incredibly loud.
“professional big spoon?” you hear him howling from the kitchen, mock and hilarity woven into each syllable—and immediately, regret starts to bubble in your chest.
you have a date tonight, soon. it’s nothing more than a casual dinner, with a guy you recently met on a dating app. he’s cute, tall, friendly—which is already more than you could say for most of the men on there, so why the hell not?
of course, upon hearing about the whole ordeal your best friend insisted that you come over the day of. you knew he’d want to poke his nose in your business and ask about the man—but the more rintarou talks, the more you begin to think he invited you here just to ridicule your match.
“this has gotta be the world’s douchiest bio,” he scoffs, furrowing his brows as he stares down at the screen. “6’2 my ass.”
he mutters the last part under his breath, opening his near empty fridge in search of something to wash down the sour taste flooding his mouth.
“what does he gain from lying about his height?” you chime, slipping into the room and watching as rintarou tilts his head back, chugging the remainder of yesterday’s gatorade.
he wipes at his mouth with the back of his palm, shifting his gaze over to you. quickly—he allows his eyes to travel from your head down to your feet, and back up once more.
hm.
“more matches,” he shrugs, leaning against the edge of the countertop and averting his attention back to the screen. “a little confidence, maybe.”
“so, you lie on your dating profile too?” you quirk a brow, tossing your jacket over the back of a of dining room chair. you slink a bit closer, preparing to snatch your phone back as soon as the chance presents itself.
“i don’t have to,” he huffs, jerking his hand away mere seconds before yours comes swooping in. “too slow, thanks for coming out though.”
“rin, stop fucking around,” you grumble, tugging on his arm as he holds it above his head. “you’re going to be the best man at our wedding, right? might as well practice not being a giant ass while you still have time.”
tch.
“hey, easy lovebird,” he hisses, feeling your nails dig into the skin on his wrist. his nose scrunches up and his brows furrow—a grumpy, get the hell away from me face you know all too well. placing the base of his palm flat against your forehead, he lightly pushes you away. “i’ll definitely be the best man there, but i’m not giving any speeches.”
“whatever, give me back my phone,” you mutter, glancing at rintarou’s brand new, never been and hopefully never will be used oven. “we’re meeting at eight, i have to go.”
“here, might wanna declaw before you leave,” he hands over the device and frowns, rubbing at the subtle red line forming near his elbow. “fuckin’ gremlin.”
you ignore his comment, reaching for your jacket and slipping the leather onto your arms. you fiddle with it, shifting and repositioning the fabric until it sits on your shoulders just right. it’s a bit oversized, but not too much, and it compliments the black lace trim on your cami. at least, you think it does.
“do i look okay?” you ask, peering up at rintarou who, is now wrist deep in a bag of calbee hot and spicy potato chips.
“mmm, you look like you do every day,” he replies through a mouthful.
“wow, i’m sure there’s thousands lining up to hear that one,” you laugh, and something resembling a smile forms on his lips.
“what can i say?” he agrees, weakly gesturing to himself before bringing his fingers to his mouth and sucking the flavouring off. he strolls over to the front door, where you’re already reaching for the knob—trying desperately to flee. “hey, text me later, okay?”
“will do,” you assure.
“and have fun,” he adds, leaning his head against the doorframe as you step out into the hall. “but not too much.”
“yes, mother, bye now.”
he watches you practically skip down the narrow, dimly lit corridor until you disappear around the corner—and again, he’s alone.
⋆
rintarou props his feet up on his little black coffee table, aimlessly flipping his way through netflix—searching for something, anything to distract his saboteur mind.
it’s dark, the sun has long been set, and hues of navy blue bleed past the blinds. the streetlights outside paint the shadow of a tree onto his living room wall, though it resembles something much more frightening—a monster. could it be the same one who used to hide under his bed when he was a kid?
he continues to scroll until he comes across an anime, ouran high school host club. huh, you like that one. not his cup of tea by any means, but it’ll do—it’s just something to fill the silence after all. a shiver greets rintarou’s spine as he presses play, and he instinctively nuzzles into the collar of his sweatshirt. it’s cold.
craning his neck back, he narrows his gaze onto the window—wide open and practically begging for the frigid air to waltz right in. he inhales, shuts his eyes, and exhales. it’s too far.
he blindly throws his hand over the back of the couch, patting around until he feels the familiar fluff of his old rick and morty blanket. usually, it’d be sitting at the foot of his bed, but he just so happened to be in a similar predicament before you arrived late this afternoon.
he spreads the fleece over himself, and it barely covers three quarters of his body, but it’s a hell of lot better than nothing. he tugs his sleeves over his balled up fists and crosses his arms over his chest, allowing his eyes to close once more.
yes, this’ll do. he can feel himself drifting off, becoming less aware of the sounds emanating from the television, less aware of the nagging thoughts feeding off his brain—except, for one.
vows don’t count as speeches, do they?
⋆
rintarou wakes to a low buzzing—vibrations that stem from the pocket of his hoodie and roll up his torso. someone’s calling.
he reaches, but his hand is forced to take a detour to the back of his neck, where a kink is in the midst of settling into the muscle. a few profanities slip out, all directed at himself for not laying down like a normal nap taking human.
“yeah?” he answers, leaning his head against the back of the sofa while pressing the device to his ear. he didn’t bother reading the contact name—he hasn’t heard from his mother at all today, and she’s made a daily habit of checking in on him, asking if he’s eating proper meals and doing his laundry.
at this point his microwave has stolen the title of best friend right out from under your nose, and there’s a basket of clean clothes that’s been in the corner of rintarou’s bedroom for the past three days. still, he always answers yes.
“rin, did i wake you?”
wait—it’s you. what time is it?
“oh, hey. yeah, you did,” he yawns, squinting at the tv, where a few boys in purple uniforms are talking about—fancy tuna? you are so weird. he pulls back for a moment, peering at the numbers sitting at the top of his screen—9:13 pm. “you home already?”
“no, i’m still here.”
shit, he better start practicing his i object.
“well? did they give him a booster seat?” there’s a teasing lilt to his voice, but his expression remains deadpan.
“he didn’t show up, rintarou.”
yes, maybe he doesn’t have to.
“huh? so you’ve just been sitting there?” he asks, using a finger to push the fluff on his blanket from side to side—against the grain, and with.
“yeah, i had hope for a while.”
he wants to say something—but he can’t decide on what. is this the appropriate time to insert a short joke? usually, he wouldn’t give it a second thought, especially when it comes to you. you’ve been there for at least eight of his top ten most unsavoury comments—such as when he felt the need to guess how many husbands your english teacher has had throughout the years while she stood not two feet away—only to settle on none.
yet, the thought of you sitting all alone at a table somewhere—dolled up and waiting for someone who never even planned on coming in the first place—has the wings of every butterfly in his stomach wilting, causing them to nosedive into his bottomless pit of gatorade and potato chips.
so, he finally decides.
“i’ll come pick you up,” he blurts out, shoving rick and morty off to the side before rising to his feet.
“no, you don’t have to do that,” you protest—guilt lingering in your gut and causing you to second guess your decision to call. he’s been so sluggish as of late—sleeping in past his alarms, napping more often. it’s obvious that life has been doing a number on him recently. the last thing he needs is to be dragged out.
“no? why else would you call?” he hums, shuffling over to the pitch black void where his kitchen is. he feels around a bit until the familiar jingle of his car keys fills his ears. “text me the address, i’ll be there soon.”
he hangs up without warning, leaving you with no choice but to sit and wait.
rintarou grimaces as he nears the door, feeling a gust of wind as it sneaks in through his window and engulfs the entire living room in a frigid hell. he’s tired, exhausted even—and he doesn’t feel like driving right now.
but, he’s glad you’re dragging him out.
⋆
“don’t even say it,” is the first warning you give rintarou when you slide into the passenger seat of his car. he’s sitting, slouched forward a little as he rubs his hands together for warmth. you know the words are right there on the tip of his tongue, but you don’t want to hear them.
“oh come on,” he groans, visibly annoyed by your sudden demand.
“i’ve been embarrassed enough tonight, thanks,” you give him a faux smile—the passive aggressive kind you’d give to an irate customer.
“so, shouldn’t you like be used to it by now?” he mimics your tone, slightly raising the pitch of his voice.
“tch, you’d think so,” you mutter, noting the stray flakes, fluffy and white, that begin to encase his vehicle. huh, first of the season.
a comfortable silence settles between the two of you—nothing but the sounds of wet tires on pavement and an overly enthusiastic radio host.
rintarou’s never been one to offer verbal support to his friends, or anyone for that matter—it makes him feel awkward, vulnerable. he’s more or less always let his actions portray his feelings, so—him taking twenty minutes out of his evening to come get you means something, you’re sure of it.
still, you like seeing him squirm a little.
“why do you think he didn’t come?” your voice is like a dagger, cutting through the silence before settling at the base of his throat.
“dunno, maybe he has trouble getting it up,” he responds, dulling the blade completely.
“rintarou,” you sigh, blunt and a little defeated—but he swears he can feel you breaking skin with the second syllable of his name. eyes on the road rintarou.
“i don’t know, does it matter?” he tries, sweeping your attempt to kill him right under the rug. however, the wound is already there—open and weakening his resolve by the second. “it’s not you.”
“and if it is?”
“it’s not,” he’s firm, hoping that his words drill into that pretty little head of yours. “he’s missing out, would’ve been one hell of a wedding.”
“yeah,” you agree, “i was looking forward to that speech of yours. highlight of the night.”
“what about when i start drunk dancing with this guy’s mom?” he says, glancing over to catch the smile blooming on your lips—and it’s as if that dagger never existed at all.
“you? dancing?” you scoff, watching as rintarou’s skin glows a momentary orange with each passing streetlight.
“just because you’ve never seen it, doesn’t mean it can’t exist,” he’s quick to defend himself—clearly taking your disbelief to heart.
you turn, holding back laughter as a very specific mental image pops into your brain. rintarou—drunk off his ass in a suit and tie, holding the hands of your groom’s mother as he awkwardly tries to dance with her—simultaneously pissing off half the guests in attendance.
you wonder how many drinks it would take for him to get to that point, or if it’d even take any at all—you’re almost certain that a pep talk and a measly twenty from atsumu would suffice.
either way, the thought alone almost has you wishing this date would’ve gone a little better.
⋆
now, the route back to your place is quick—but it’s not the one rintarou took. instead, you’re coming up on the small 24 hour convenience store, which is about a two minute walk from his place.
“rin,” you start, “i thought you were taking me home?”
“huh?” he glances over at you, putting on a faux look of innocence. “all i said was that i’d pick you up.”
“asshole,” you mumble, noting the increase in wind—which is giving the illusion of a horizontal snowfall.
“relax,” he snorts, pulling the car up in front of his apartment. “i’ll drive you home later, now get out.”
you watch as he shoves a hand into the pocket of his sweatpants, lifting his hips ever so slightly to fish a pair of keys out—one large and one small.
“head up, i’ll park.”
he waits for a moment, watching as you scurry up the stairs and into the warmth of the lobby before he drives off into the parking lot.
in a matter of twenty minutes, the weather has taken a turn for the worse—and rintarou braces himself for the short walk to the side door. he’s going against the wind, hands shoved into his pockets, hood blown off his head. he can feel the wind creeping beneath his sweater, penetrating his skin. it’s horrible.
then, it’s not. he’s inside, safe from the storm threatening to tear the building from it’s soil. he opts to take the stairs—remembering what his father once said about taking an elevator during a storm.
his nose and ears are pink, bordering red as he swiftly makes his way down the hall. as he nears his suite—a warm amber glow greets him from beneath the door, and his chest tightens. those damn stairs, maybe he should take them more often.
he swings the door open, and there you are—sitting on his couch, drowning in his blanket, table side lamps on, window shut.
“what the fuck, rin!” you gawk, pulling your knees to your chest and shivering. “close your goddamn windows before you leave.
he can feel it too, this numbing temperature—it’s much worse than it was before his nap.
“also, i cannot believe you were watching this without me,” you cut him off before he has the chance to respond—and he’d expect to be embarrassed having been caught, but he’s not.
he’s happy, because you’re patting the spot next to you while wearing what he thinks has to be the most beautiful smile he’s ever seen. maybe he should start practicing his i do.
because even with the season’s most polar air standing between the two of you,
rintarou’s apartment is warm.

sorrow is a season
a/n: ik I've been super sporadic these last few months, but book revisions and tight deadlines have had me v busy!!!! anyways I’ve spent so so long on this and wanted to pull off some wild plot stuff but then I got busy and I figured I couldn’t just let the 2k I had go to waste and so, here we are. apologies for the wait anon, its been TOO long, but I hope u enjoy!!!!
pairing: eddie munson x reader
summary: eddie munson is dead. or is he? (aka a kas/vampire Eddie au)
word count: 4k
warnings: blood/death/violence mention
-
In the end, he is alone, like he always knew he would be.
Even the bats, either bored of a limp plaything or drawn away, fly off. The lightning seems to follow them, leaving Eddie alone on the grass in a cold, gray version of a place he never liked all that much to begin with.
The only thing that ever made the trailer park worth it was you. Though, to be fair, the only thing that made a lot of things in this shitty town worth it was you.
You. You, smiling at him from the passenger seat as you sing along to the radio, and you, whispering to him under the stars at midnight, and you, looking at him like you never want to stop.
He would give anything to see you one last time. To make sure you’re alive. Because he can’t be sure—he doesn’t know if his sacrifice is amounting to anything, or if you’re dying, too, just out of sight. Panic clears some of the fog from his brain.
At first, he doesn’t realize he’s speaking, calling out the word, “Please,” until his raw throat protests. Even then, he doesn’t stop, forcing his voice louder, screaming into the twisted ether.
Please, don’t take me away.
He isn’t sure who he’s yelling to, exactly, because he’s never believed in God, and even if he did, God sure as shit can’t hear him down here.
“I don’t want to die,” he says. Tears have mixed with the blood on his face, and his vision blurs red.
What are you willing to give in order to live?
The voice asks, and Eddie isn’t entirely sure it isn’t just some figment of his dying brain.
He shakes his head, letting it thump back against the grass. Above him, the dark red sky doesn’t hold a single star.
What are you willing to give? The voice asks again.
Later, he’ll understand what he’s about to do. But not yet. Not yet.
“Anything,” Eddie croaks. “Anything.”
A tall, hulking silhouette moves through the shadows, but Eddie can’t see their face, or anything, really. All of his senses disappear, and he’s lost in an endless sea of darkness.
Eddie Munson dies. And then, he wakes up.
-
Eddie Munson is dead.
Three months of telling yourself those words, and they still don’t sound real.
Two months since he was legally declared dead—there wasn’t a body, still isn’t, probably never will be, but in Hawkins, this is no longer a strange occurrence—and three months since you dragged Dustin away from his body, and it still doesn’t feel real.
You’re beginning to doubt it ever will. Maybe it will always be this way. You, looking out your front window every time you pass it and expecting to see his van idling at the curb. You, accidentally ordering his coffee alongside your own enough times that even the barista pities you.
You, still waiting for someone who isn’t coming back.
“But you’ll be there, right? 10 am?” Robin asks, her voice garbled through the phone.
Lounging on your bed, you push up, keeping the phone tucked between your ear and shoulder.
“10 am, on the field. I know. I’m not going to miss my own graduation,” you say.
“Our graduation,” Robin says. “And thank the heavens, because I swear to God, I don’t think I’d have survived another week with Mrs. Burton. If I had to read another sexist, poorly written poem by a long dead man, I was going to spontaneously combust.”
You laugh, but something about the words our graduation sticks to the back of your throat like phlegm. You and Robin’s. It was supposed to be three of you, though.
It’s as if Robin can hear your spiraling thoughts, because she says, gently, “If you want company, I can force Harrington to buy us beer and drive me over.”
You smile. “I’ll live. Besides, there’ll be plenty of beer at all the after parties I’m dragging you to tomorrow night.”
“Wouldn’t have it any other way,” Robin quips. “For once, I don’t mind hanging out with these people, considering I’ll never have to see most of them again.”
“One can dream,” you say.
“One can,” Robin says. “I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?”
“Tomorrow.”
You exchange goodbyes with Robin and walk the phone back to the receiver, untangling the twisted cord, and hang it up. Before going back to your bed, you bring two fingers to your lips, then press them to the red electric guitar hanging over your dresser, like you do every night.
It isn’t the guitar he used to draw the very bats that killed him. That guitar was lost with Eddie.
It, along with a few tee shirts, the rings he pulled off his fingers and jammed into your hands before you left him, and a few photos, are all that remain of Eddie Munson.
You’d made a thousand plans together, and even if 99% of them were impossible, the 1% that weren’t still clatter behind you everywhere you go.
I think it’s finally my year.
1986 should have been the beginning of the rest of his life; hopefully, a life alongside you. It should have made high school and the monsters you’d fought an old story.
This, an empty grave, shouldn’t be the end.
-
The lock on the window in your room has been whining as long as you’ve lived in the house. A few years back, your parents tried to get it replaced, but you’d refused. You couldn’t tell them why, but you weren’t about to get rid of a built-in alarm on that window.
The whining sound pulls you out of sleep and off the mattress in under two seconds. You pull out the sledgehammer you have hidden under the bed before your eyes find the silhouette slipping through the now-open window and into your room.
Of all the nights for someone to break in, it had to be one of the miraculous few you weren’t having a nightmare. At three in the morning, that alone feels worthy of at least a tap with the hammer.
The second the figure hits the middle of your room, you lunge.
The figure ducks the swing, and jerks to the side, face illuminated by moonlight streaming in the window.
A face that can’t possibly be standing in your bedroom.
Eddie Munson. Or his ghost. Or something—
“Jesus Christ, babe, where the hell did you get a sledgehammer? Were you going to hit me with that?” Eddie exclaims, except it can’t be Eddie, because Eddie died in your arms. Because you pried Dustin off Eddie’s body. Because you’ve seen his death in your dreams every night for months.
It can’t be. It isn’t. But someone, or something, is wearing his skin, masquerading as the boy you love, and it’s the last of many, many straws.
You swing the hammer, but faster than your eyes can track, Eddie’s hand moves—you blink, and he’s holding the metal edge in one fist.
The hammer’s head is too heavy to be caught without breaking a finger—but the speed with which he moved is more troubling.
“Who the hell are you?” You snap, wrenching the hammer out of his fist, swinging again. “Get the hell out of my house, now—“
“Hold on, hold on—“ Not-Eddie backs up, hands raised, and with each second that passes, your brain files away the subtle differences. The color of his eyes, that beautiful brown, almost has a red tint in the dark. “It’s me. I swear to God, it’s me.”
“Whatever this sick game is, I’m not playing.” You raise the sledgehammer parallel to the floor and point it at him, using it to push him back toward the window. “Out.”
“Okay, okay, just—just wait.” He jumps to the side just before hitting the window, skating along the wall and darting around you. You whip around, and Eddie is there in a blink, plucking the hammer out of your hands. He tosses it onto your bed and slides into place directly between you and your weapon.
“If I wasn’t me, how would I have known how to open the window?”
Your Eddie could pop the lock in seconds. It was why you always kept it locked, because the only person who might need to get in could.
“Anybody—anything— can jimmy a lock,” you snap.
Maybe it’s your lack of a good night’s sleep in the recent past, or the darkness of the room, but you swear, he almost looks hurt.
“Harsh, but fair.” He takes a breath. “But it really is me.”
“Eddie Munson died three months ago,” you say. “I was there.”
“Yeah, I saw the gravestone. Bet my funeral had a hell of a turnout,” he says.
“Just stop. You’re not him. I don’t know what you are, but you’re not him.”
Eddie seems to chew on his words for a moment. “We met in gym class. You were a junior. I was a senior, the second time. You were hiding behind the long jump mats during the mile run, and I army-crawled my ass over to you so that ancient gym teacher didn’t bust us both. Naturally, he saw me, and the second he yelled, you shoved me out onto the track on my ass.” He grins. “I was pretty much done for, after that.”
You shake your head. “Twenty other people were on the track that day—”
“Fine. Okay.” He huffs a breath. Folds his arms over his chest. “Right, okay, so a few weeks after we started hanging out, I took you to Lover’s Lake. We ate Cheetos and drank warm Coke on the dock, and you told me about that field trip, the one to the museum in middle school. You got lost, ended up in the art exhibit for two hours until a chaperone tracked you down. After that, you couldn’t get enough of all those old—what is it? Abstract paintings.”
Your heart beats like a kick drum, so loud you’re surprised it hasn’t woken the whole house.
Eddie’s gaze darts down—and you don’t remember much of the few anatomy lessons you had, but you’d swear he looks where your heart is.
“This isn’t possible,” you say softly.
Eddie’s lips pull thin. “You kissed me outside that gas station on main because you said you were tired of waiting for me to do it.” A smile softens his expression. “And the first time you told me you loved me, we were in this room, in that bed, but you had to whisper because your parents were downstairs.” He takes a step forward. “And I said it back. Didn’t even hesitate. Didn’t whisper either, but you weren’t even pissed. Y’know, I’d only said that to one other person before you, but I didn’t hesitate.“
“No. You can’t be here.” You swallow. Shake your head. Hope is banging its fists against your ribcage, desperate to break out of the prison you locked it in. Tears prick at the backs of your eyes, but you don’t dare let them fall.
Eddie shrugs. “But I am.”
He takes a step toward you, and when you don’t move away, he takes another. Only when there are no more steps to take does he stop, the rubber of his sneakers kissing the tips of your toes.
He doesn’t move any further, like he’s leaving the last inch up to you.
You hold his gaze. Reach a hand up and let it settle on his cheek.
“Eddie?” you ask, barely above a whisper.
“Yeah,” he says, leaning into your hand. “It’s me.”
Just like that, the sob that’s been sitting at the base of your throat for months dislodges, and you throw your arms around him, burying your face in his neck. He still feels like your Eddie, still smells like him beneath that overhanging scent of ash.
The moment he wraps his arms around you and squeezes you, you know it’s Eddie. You’ve been in these arms so many times, you fit like puzzle pieces.
“Eddie,” you say again, voice muffled by his hair, and he just holds you tighter, so tight you can barely breathe but you don’t care.
“I’m here,” he says. “I’m here.”
And for the first time in months, you can breathe.
-
For ten minutes, everything is like it was. Eddie is all bravado and big smiles, like the last three months never happened, and you let the lie hang because you’ve missed him too badly to pull it back. But it’s more fog than curtain, and it evaporates fast.
Eddie pulls you onto the bed and into his arms, just holding you, and the way your bodies fold together may be the same, but nothing else is.
His skin is cooler, dryer. Covered in scars. His scent, one you can’t describe but know, isn’t totally different, but it’s not the same, either.
And his eyes. He clearly took efforts to keep them out of the light—asking you not to turn a lamp on, keeping his chin ducked—but up close, there’s no mistaking it.
The deep, dark brown is more like a deep red wine someone spilled on a carpet. It’s a beautiful, inhuman shade of red. And you may have seen enough weird shit to fill a museum over the last few years, it sets off every alarm bell inside you. Like an ancient voice is urging you to run while everything else tells you to stay.
Your first observation was right. He isn’t your Eddie. He’s something different. Evolved. And you’re not sure if it’s for better or worse. You’re also not sure if you give a shit.
There are so many questions to ask, but they’d all break the bubble you’re resting in, so you settle for the softest you can think of.
“Tell me what happened to you,” you say gently, keeping your forehead pressed to his chest so you don’t have to look him in the eye; that, and because you’re trying to find a heartbeat. You haven’t. “How you survived. I’m not an idiot, Eddie. And I can only pretend I haven’t noticed that your eyes are a different color or that you move faster than you should. That somehow, you’ve been in the Upside Down for three months, and you’re not a decayed corpse.”
Eddie’s hands, steady as they glide up and down your back, your arms, your sides, stall, and his fingers curl slightly into your hoodie.
“You were there,” he says. “You saw it all.”
“Clearly, not everything. You were dead when I left—”
“Almost dead.”
“What?” you stiffen.
“I wasn’t… I mean, I was mostly dead. Kissing Death, straight on the lips, tongue and all. And then…”
“And then?”
He inhales, and says, “And then, I made a deal with the devil. A deal I can’t take back.”
You lean back. You may not have all the pieces, but you have enough to get some understanding at the full picture.
The only devil in the Upside Down is Vecna. And if he brought Eddie back—whatever the definition of back is—he didn’t go it out of the goodness of his heart.
“Eddie, what did you do?” you ask, voice barely above a whisper.
“Look, I know you want answers, and I want to give them to you, but I…” He pauses. His hand comes up to your cheek, his cold fingers tracing a line down to your jaw. You shiver. “I’ve spent the last three months waiting for a single minute he wasn’t on my ass, watching me, and I don’t have a lot of time. So, I swear to God, I’ll answer all your questions, but right now, I just want to be here. With you.”
You frown. “You’re not staying.”
Eddie is silent for a long time before he says, “I can’t. Not yet.”
You shift back, sitting up so that only his outline is visible in your periphery. From this angle, blurry and out of focus, he still looks like the Eddie you lost. An Eddie whose biggest problem was whether he’d actually graduate this year.
Eddie sits up beside you, a hand on your arm. He exhales, dropping his chin onto your shoulder. It’s a familiar position, and without thinking, you tip your head against his, temple to temple.
“I’m still a puppet,” he says softly. “Just because he’s not holding my strings right now doesn’t mean he’s not coming back for them.”
You scoff. “If you’re just… some puppet, how are you here now? I mean, am I even talking to the real you right now?”
Eddie stiffens.
“I’m me,” he says. “A lot of the time… I’m more him than me. But right now, right here, I’m me. I’m just Eddie.” He lifts his chin. You crane your head to meet his eyes.
“I spent months waiting for a chance. V—He’s been so weak after everything that went down, he’s been stuck down there. Healing. Even when I came topside to fee—” He stops abruptly. Changes course. “But now…” Eddie pauses. It’s like he’s battling two voices in his head, one telling him to speak, the other urging him silent. “Let’s just say, he’s on a business trip, and I’m supposed to be down there, keeping an eye on things. I only had a few hours.”
“I don’t want you to go,” you whisper, like if you keep your voice low enough, the world won’t hear and jinx you.
“I know, angel,” he says. He drops his chin and presses a long kiss to the side of your head. When he pulls back, his expression has shifted, freezing over like Lovers Lake every December. His voice isn’t entirely his own as he says, “But there’s something I need to take care of before I can stay.”
“Something?” you ask. “Or someone?”
Eddie lets out a long sigh. He rolls onto his back, hands coming up behind his head, and the posture, his presence beside you, the tickle of his hair against your shoulder, is somehow familiar and foreign at once.
“Do you really want me to answer that?”
“I want you to stay alive—” He lifts his brows, and you huff, pressing on. “You know what I mean.”
“Yeah. And you know that it wasn’t some… miracle that brought me back. It was—” He stops. “If he’s still around, I’m not really me. I’m just another one of his weapons.”
“You’re going to kill him, aren’t you?” you ask, voice barely above a whisper. No human should be able to hear it. But Eddie does.
“I’m gonna try,” he says.
“And if you can’t?”
Eddie shrugs. He pointedly averts his gaze as he says, “If I can’t, then I go out fighting. Maybe I can get a few decent shots in before he takes me out.”
“Eddie—”
Eddie twists, shifting so he’s half in front of you. He takes your face in his hands and forces your gaze. The angles of his face are sharper, his eyes are clearer. He isn’t the Eddie you lost, but he’s still your Eddie, under it all.
“I’m already on borrowed time, sweetheart. Might as well make it worth something.”
You shake your head. “No. That’s bullshit. We’ll just… we’ll get out of here. Tonight. We can get in my car and drive until we get to a city big enough to disappear in. It doesn’t have to be this way.”
“You know, I’ve been running since I learned to walk.” His thumb traces a line up and down your jaw. “I never even thought about stopping. Never wanted to.” A sad smile ghosts his lips. “Then, one day, I met you. And I had a reason to stay. So, I’m gonna fight for it. And I’m gonna come back for you.”
Before, Eddie Munson could have won a contest for stubbornness. It appears dying or almost dying didn’t change that.
You take a breath. Close your eyes for a long moment. When you open them, you say, “You better. If you don’t, I’ll kill you. And I’ll make sure it takes this time.”
Eddie snorts a laugh and loops his arms around you, pulling you into his chest. For a long time, you stay that way, holding each other and pretending the seconds aren’t rolling by.
And then, much sooner than you’d like, Eddie peels himself out of your arms. He climbs off the bed, and you follow him back to the window. The latch whines in protest as he lifts the windowpane, like it too is dreading his departure.
He climbs out onto the roof and turns back to the window, his slender hands on the sill. His fingers look naked without their rings.
Your stomach clawing up your throat, you lift the thin chain out from under your shirt, the metal rings hanging from it clacking. You unlatch it and pull off a thick, black ring. Unlike the others, taken off him in the Upside Down, you’ve had this ring for ages. He gave it to you a long, long time ago.
You lift one of his hands, sliding it onto his middle finger. He curls his fingers around yours, squeezing hard.
“Come back to me,” you say.
“I’ll see you soon,” he says. “Promise.”
Eddie leans forward to press a kiss to your forehead. You close your eyes, and the cool touch of his lips disappears. When you open your eyes, he’s gone. Like he was never there at all.
Maybe he wasn’t.
-
Three weeks pass. By the fourteenth day, you’re halfway convinced you hallucinated Eddie. By the twentieth, you’re sure of it.
Call it your brain trying to process the mountain of grief inside you. Or the end of the slow spiral into madness you started three years ago, when a Demogorgon nearly dragged you through a portal in a tree.
Fantasizing a conversation with your dead boyfriend isn’t exactly the weirdest thing that’s happened. It’s better than the alternative: that Eddie is gone, for real.
And then, on the twenty second night, the latch on your window whines open.
In seconds, you’re up and out of bed, standing in the middle of your room just the way you were a few weeks ago. Staring at a silhouette near the window just the way you were a few weeks ago.
The figure half-covered by shadows is limping, and something dark drips off their hands—what you can see of them is covered in a dark substance that has to be blood.
“I know, I know, I’m an asshole. I don’t write, I don’t call…” A familiar, if not a little rough and raw, voice says, and the massive knot that’s been coiling in your gut for weeks untangles itself in an instant.
“Eddie,” you breathe, as he steps into the moonlight.
“Told you I'd be back,” he says, flashing you a smile between heavy breaths. His canines are wickedly sharp, longer than they should be, and shining with blood. “Sorry I’m late.”
“You’re really here? I’m not hallucinating?”
A smile twitches across his red lips.
“You’re not hallucinating. I’m here,” he says.
“For good?”
“For good,” he says. His mouth curves up, and his smile appears here to stay.
Like him.
And you don’t care how he got here. What he had to become just to be standing here right now. You don’t care what it might take to keep him here, either.
All that matters is that he’s here. Period.
So, you cross the room in three steps, and pull him into your arms. Blood and all.

Sleepy Time Tea - Bucky Barnes x fem!reader
Pairing: Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier x fem!Reader (tfatws era)
Word Count: 2011
Warnings: Swearing, fluff, honestly just a self indulgent fic about drinking weird tea with Bucky
(note: I stole the reader’s powers from Vic Neuman from The Boys, just an fyi lol)
It was safe to say that you were pretty weird (from an outsider’s perspective, anyway). You had abnormal interests, strange hobbies and even stranger morals. So you were relatively surprised when The Falcon himself begged for you to join his ‘team’ to stop the Flag Smashers.
“Sam told me you’ve been having trouble sleeping?” you ask, perched on the worktop beside Bucky as he poured himself a coffee.
“S’none of your business,” he mutters, turning his back to you and shuffling over to the sofa.
“I’m here to help, you know,” you start, sliding off of the counter and joining him on the other end of the sofa, pulling your legs to your chest. “I know Sam asked me here to, you know, pop some heads,” you pause, catching his eye in bemusement.
“I could do what you do. It’s called a bullet to the head,” a dry laugh escapes his lips, shaking his head as he takes a sip of his coffee.
“Exploding someone’s skull with your mind is a bit more fun though, right?” you laugh in response. “There’s no subtle way to shoot someone in the head. Think of me as your own, personal gun. With a super silencer.”
“What was your point?” Bucky breathes, finally turning his head to face you, an annoyed expression on his face.
“Right, yeah,” you laugh. “Don’t judge me-”
“I can’t promise anything,” he cuts you off.
“Don’t judge me. I have some herbal stuff-”
“I’m not getting stoned with you, (y/n).”
“Let me fucking finish!” you exclaim, launching a cushion at his face, although he easily catches it and rests it on his lap.
He gestures his hand for you to continue, attempting to hide the small smirk on his face.
“I’m really into tea.”
As soon as the words leave your mouth, his face drops and he gets up from the sofa, throwing the cushion back to you.
“I don’t want your stupid fucking sleepy time tea.”
You look down as the door slams - understandable.
-------------
The evening’s mission had gone, honestly, beyond wrong.
Sam and Bucky had been recognised almost immediately, leaving you and Zemo to hunt down the man you were looking for.
In theory, it should have been simple. But Zemo was adamant for you to show him your powers which, above all else, was just distracting.
“Not now, Zemo.” you had said, turning to him with a stern expression on your face. “We find the guy, he talks, I blow his head up. Sound good?”
“Yes ma’am,” he smiled.
That should have been the end of it.
Zemo persisted.
You’d caught sight of your target, taking hold of Zemo’s wrist and moving through the crowd, your eyes never leaving the man you were here to find.
“Ooh, (y/n), what about this guy? He’s being a bit, how would you say, pervy?”
“Oh my god, Zemo.” you stopped in your tracks and turned to him, your body filled with rage. “Shut the fuck up!”
Before he could even begin to think of a response, you were interrupted by screams.
Screams coming from the direction of your target
“Oh, fuck.” you breathed.
---------------
“You head popped our target?” Sam exclaims. “What the fuck happened?”
Your eyes move from Sam to Zemo, shooting daggers at his smug face.
“What? We were going to kill him anyway, yes?” he smiles.
“He had crucial information. We needed him alive.” Sam exhales, an unimpressed expression on his face.
Bucky throws himself on to the sofa, a large sigh escaping his mouth as he covers his face with his hands.
“You two are the worst.” he mutters.
“Why couldn’t you just let (y/n) do her thing?” Sam asks, raising his arms in exasperation.
“I did!”
“No,” he pauses. “No. She was going to make him talk. You didn’t need to piss her off.”
Zemo glances at you, a smirk on his face as he takes a step towards you.
“Can you blame me? Surely any man would want to witness such a gift in person.”
“You’re lucky I didn’t pop your head.” you say, falling onto the sofa behind you.
Your whole body aches from exhaustion and you want nothing more than your bed or, in this case, a random bed in your current hideout.
You sit in silence as Sam and Zemo argue (or rather, Sam berates Zemo), occasionally casting your eyes to Bucky’s unmoving figure on the opposite end of the couch.
After a while, the shouting stops and Sam storms out of the apartment, with Zemo skulking off to his own bedroom.
Both you and Bucky remain in your respective spots, and you’re convinced that you can feel Bucky’s eyes on you every so often.
It’s only when you eventually sit up that you finally catch his gaze.
“Give me some of your stupid tea.”
Shocked, you jump out of your seat, bringing your hands together.
“Really?” you say, careful to control your volume to avoid disturbing Zemo.
Bucky stands up, suddenly towering over you, resting a hand on your shoulder.
“Just don’t poison me.”
A small squeal of excitement escapes your lips as you scurry over to the kitchenette, Bucky in tow.
You swing one of the cupboard doors open, reaching to the back for your tub of assorted herbs and loose leaf teas.
“I’m telling you now, Bucky,” you start, turning to him, holding the box out to him. “This is probably one of the only things I’m actually passionate about.”
“Tea?” he questions, slowly taking the plastic tub from your hands. “You’re a loser. No offence.”
“None taken,” you shrug. “Only because you’re right.”
You rummage through the cupboards in search of any kind of tea strainer, instead finding an infuser teapot.
“Aha!” you exclaim as you pull the teapot out of the cupboard. “This is perfect.”
Bucky pulls open the tub before gently placing it on the countertop beside you.
“Thanks,” you say in an almost whisper before you begin digging through your collection of herbs.
Bucky takes his spot beside you, leaning his back against the counter’s edge, silently watching you carefully take spoonfuls of each ingredient. His eyes never leave you, moving from your hands to your face.
“Do you want to help?” you ask, a gentle smile on your face.
He quickly nods, turning to face the worktop alongside you.
“Okay,” you hum. “Could you find the valerian root for me? It’s labelled, it’ll be in one of those brown pouches.”
“Gotcha,” he says before beginning his search.
Bucky finds the packet only a minute later, gently unsealing the top to get a look.
Before you can warn him, the root’s aroma fills his nostrils, a look of complete and utter disgust spreading across his face.
“I’m not ingesting that,” Bucky states, holding the small bag as far away from his face as possible. “It smells like literal belly button.”
You open your mouth in feign offence, giving his shoulder a gentle, backhanded slap.
“Hey!” he exclaims, matching your energy. “You smell it if it’s really not that bad!”
Before you can act in defence, he forces the pouch into your face, the smell taking over all of your senses.
You snatch the bag from his hand, careful not to let any of the root escape as you place it back on the side.
The two of you remain in a comfortable silence as you gently place the remainder of the ingredients into the strainer.
“Do you want to go and sit down?” you ask as you pour the freshly boiled water into the teapot. “It needs a little time to brew.”
Bucky silently agrees, nodding his head before crossing the room towards the sofa.
Turning back to the teapot, you hear Bucky collapse onto the couch as you stir the liquid, all kinds of colours leaking into the water.
While you wait, you pull two large mugs from the cupboard. You hook your finger through the handles before taking hold of the teapot into your other hand, carefully carrying everything over to the coffee table in front of Bucky.
“I could have helped carry that, you know,” he says as you place the tea set down on the surface.
“It’s no problem, Bucky,” you smile.
He leans closer to the coffee table, gently lifting a mug and pulling it closer to his face, the steam soothing his tired skin.
“I picked out my favourites for you,” you start. “These ones always put me to sleep,” you laugh.
He smiles at you for you to continue, taking a small smell of the tea as he does so.
“So it’s valerian root, chamomile, lavender and vervain.” you say, a look of concentration on your face as you make sure to remember every ingredient. “I’d usually add mugwort for some funky dreams but I, uh, I’ve heard about your dreams. Best to avoid that.”
“Good call,” he laughs.
Returning back to your previous quiet, the two of you begin to drink your tea.
You can’t help but watch his face, looking out for any sort of reaction to the drink.
Eventually, his face softens and he gradually takes more and more sips until the mug is completely empty. You’re not long behind him, tilting your mug to get every last drop before placing it back onto the coffee table.
“That,” he starts, putting his mug beside yours. “That wasn’t awful.”
You look at him with a smile, although a glimpse of disbelief must have flashed across your face as he continues.
“I mean it, (y/n). It was nice,” he smiles. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, Buck.”
Bucky adjusts himself, leaning his back against the side of the sofa, one leg tucked under the other.
You watch his face once more as he sits in deep thought, debating whether to tell you whatever it is that he’s thinking.
“You’ve never called me Buck before,” he whispers.
“Oh shit, I’m sorry,” you whisper back, guilt lacing your voice as you shuffle in place anxiously. “I overstepped, I’m so sorry.”
He lets out a gentle chuckle before tilting his head back, resting it on the edge of the sofa’s armrest.
“I like it,” he breathes, so quietly that if you weren’t paying attention you wouldn’t have heard him.
A soft yet embarrassed breath escapes your mouth as you lean deeper into the sofa, your knee lightly brushing against his.
Your eyes flutter as you sink further into the sofa and you can’t stop yourself from falling ever so slightly into the man beside you.
---------------
The sound of someone clattering around in the kitchen pulls you from, quite possibly, the best night’s sleep you’ve ever had. You attempt to sit up, but a weight around your waist halts you, keeping you locked into place.
That place being Bucky’s arms.
Fuck.
You make another attempt to free yourself from his grasp, only to be pulled tighter into his chest. Shuffling some more in an effort to wake him, the soft sounds of your body against the sofa attract the attention of someone else.
Zemo peers over the back of the sofa, a please grin on his face.
“I see you two are finally starting to get along,” he smirks. “I have to say, I’ve never seen that man sleep so soundly before.”
Zemo reaches across you to Bucky’s flesh arm, giving him a poke.
“Like a baby,” he laughs when Bucky still doesn’t react. “I’ll leave you two lovebirds in peace,” he winks, waltzing back towards his room.
“Buck,” you say, your voice barely above a whisper as you tap whichever parts of his body you can reach. “Buck.”
A sound of complaint leaves his mouth as he pulls you closer once again before his eyes begin to open.
“Buck?”
“I’m up, I’m awake,” he whispers, his grasp on you slowly loosening as his body comes back to life.
You pull yourself out of his grip as he begins to sit up, rubbing his head with his free hand.
“I think it’s safe to say that your tea works.”
