But Daddy I love him!
Seth Cohen x Fem!Reader
Tumblr media
warnings: mention of stable and happy family and being an only child (lol)
A/N: Finally out! Not proofread. English isn't my first language so I apologize for any mistakes. All credit to the GIF owner. I'm only on season 2 of the OC so sorry for any mistakes! This is very inspired by Seth meeting summers dad lol. This is short n' sweet enjoy!
𓇼♡𓇼♡𓇼♡𓇼♡𓇼♡𓇼♡𓇼♡𓇼♡𓇼♡𓇼♡𓇼♡𓇼♡𓇼♡𓇼♡
Being your Parent's only child comes with its advantages and disadvantages. Advantages: You're spoiled rotten. Disadvantages: They always expected only the best for you. While some argue that that isn't a disadvantage, you argue otherwise.
You and Seth have been dating for a couple of months, and it's gotten to the “meet the parents” moment. While you've met his on multiple occasions it doesn't matter because Sandy and Kirsten are extremely laid back and love you! Your parents are together and have been since before they had you. So you've always had a good example of what a loving healthy relationship looked like. And that's exactly what you and Seth have!
Your dad just doesn't seem to see it like that. You can't quite tell when your dad started detesting your poor boyfriend. Because before they even met he was so happy that you were happy. Maybe it's the one time they ran into each other when Seth was picking you up. “Uh hey, sir! I'm uh here for your daughter. You know the only you have” he laughed nervously. Your dad saw this as a sign of weakness while you found it cute and endearing.
But now you were formally introducing him to your parents for the first time ever! After getting ready and meeting Seth at the restaurant earlier you were both still nervous. You never told Seth what your dad had said about him after the run-in and Seth always assumed he was loved… but you never corrected him on it either. He was determined to make a good impression. He wore a fancy suit with a tie and everything. “Hey sweetheart!” he greeted and you could hear the nervousness in his voice. After you greeted him he continued. “So I was thinking what topic of conversation should I bring up huh? I mean I don't wanna bore him but I don't wanna sound like a smart liar either-” You shut him up with a kiss followed by a giggle. “Just be yourself but a little less.. Nerdy,” you told him half jokingly half seriously. He squinted his eyes and playfully scoffed. “Oh come on I promise I won't bring up Captain Oats or Superman the entire conversation okay?” you laugh at his words. “No no talking about Superman but Mr. Oats needs to be discussed He is such an important figure in your life!” you joke to which he fakes a laugh and kisses you again.
A little while later Seth your parents and you are all sitting at the table in silence after Seth tells another painfully not funny joke. A few minutes passed before your father asked bluntly “So where do you think things are going with my daughter?” you could've sworn you saw Seth choke on his food. “Dad! It's only been a couple of months” you retorted “Well I would like to know if he's serious about you or not” your father replied back. Seth then cleared his throat “Serious? Oh yes very serious. I love your daughter I have for quite some time now and uh my intentions? You know uh make her feel loved and- wow it's hot in here. Um do everything I can to make her happy” Seth ranted and you smiled softly before looking back at your father in the hope that Seth's words changed his perception. But your dad's face didn't even budge.
After the dinner, you and Seth walked on the pier together hand in hand ahead of your parents. Still in view but out of earshot. “I dunno I thought he liked me and then today happened and it was just so awkward?” you sighed. “Seth it's just how he is okay? He has higher expectations for me than I have for myself. I'm sorry just know I love you too. Is it getting chilly or is it just me?” he didn't reply instead he just took off his blazer and put it in you before ranting again “I mean even Captain Oats would have been an easier conversation to have! Wait wait wait- I don't meet his expectations?” he stops walking and so do you “you're not a bad boyfriend at all Seth!” you exclaimed grabbing his hands. “My dad just wants someone who is unrealistically perfect.” he hods and squints his eyes “Okay I can be that”. You raise your eyebrows “Sorry what?” he grins “Perfect, I can be that for you” you laugh softly as you guys start walking again “Seth I don't want perfect I just want you why does this matter so much anyways?” he scoffs as if it's obvious. “You are your father's perfect person and mine. I want to impress you both and make sure I have a spot reserved at every family gathering so he wants perfect? I'll give him that”.
You thought Seth was joking. And oh boy were you wrong. After that day Seth would go above and beyond not only in front of your father but also just for you.
Like when he got you your favorite color bracelet. In the right size.
Or when it was Valentine's day and he got both you and your mother flowers which she loved. You remember the day he dropped them off you stood there as your mother hugged him. Meanwhile, your father was stoic and only nodded in approval of the flowers.
You were spoiled rotten not only by Seths' gifts but also his words and actions. You loved your boyfriend and eventually, your father did too!

nothing else compares,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
part-two of passenger seat // seth cohen × fem!reader w.c: 1.317 content heads-up: light descriptions of sexual sceneries, alcohol mention.
Tumblr media
You and Seth were geeks, your phones glued to your hands, your replies to each other were always quick, a rapid fire of witty remarks and references only you two could understand. That's why it was strange not to hear from you all day.
If Seth was being honest to himself, he only noticed the lack of response from you after lunch, when he was less hungover and dizzy from the night before, and he shrugged it off as you feeling as poorly as him from the tequila shots, but now it’s 5PM and you haven’t replied and he’s freaking out.
Did you die?
Alcohol poisoning is a thing that happens.
You could’ve been run over by a car going home.
Chocked to death while throwing up. There were so many options of horrible death causes that would lead you to not replying to him quickly.
Because obviously only that could excuse such thing. Nothing less than death could keep you two from talking to each other.
He texts you more:
cohen: r u alive cohen: like for realz worried lol cohen: did smth happen?
Sends you an email:
Dearest friend, It has come to my attention that you haven’t replied to my texts for the last 9hrs. If you could be so kind to answer this e-mail quick to assure me of your safety I would be oh! So grateful. Sincerely, your BEST friend Seth.
And does the unthinkable: Seth calls you.
You don’t pick up, which is almost a relief to him because you hate speaking on the phone and he would get yelled at for calling but now the funny paranoia is starting to sink in and turn into actual worry.
He knows he should just go over to your place and find out what the heck is going on, but he is frozen in his spot, sat down on his rug staring at his phone.
He realizes he’s scared to leave and find out something really did happen and you two won’t ever talk again. A terrifying feeling that never once has reached him before.
The sound of the outside door sliding open and close again doesn’t startle him, but the soft smack at the back of his head did.
Ryan.
“Ouch, what was that for?”
“You’re an idiot.”
“You’ll have to be more specific.” Maybe he shouldn’t have asked, that way Ryan wouldn’t have gone into details about how the best girl Seth has ever met was actually in love with him, while he was chasing and dating Summer, and how he completely crushed your heart by not remembering the night before.
“My life is a shitty afternoon sitcom.” Are the first words Seth is able to mutter as Ryan finishes explaining how much of a douche he was, because just in a sitcom would he wake up from a drunken night out, imagine it was all just an alcohol induced vivid dream of something he wasn’t aware he wanted and how much he wanted it and brush it off.
He thought he got home thinking of you and that it all just clicked in his mind like an old puzzle that had a missing piece he couldn’t find before, but it was too complicated to get into those feelings after being friends for so long.
Now he had not choice.
And you? You thought Ryan would get Seth to stop texting you and to generally leave you alone without spilling the details you shared with him. The issue with being best friends with both of them and both of them being best friends with each other was that there was never room for secrets.
The only secret Ryan was able to keep, and for years too, was the fact you were terribly in love with his curly haired brother, much because he figured it out years before you spilled the beans, which meant you were also alerted by him that Seth was coming over, giving you enough time to lock your bedroom window and tell your parents you didn't want to see him.
And you don't see him, at least not at first as the first notes of Clocks barge in your room, as loud as if you were listening it on your iPod, confusion hits you, it seems like a romantic gesture and that just can't be it. So you keep still, frozen in your spot far away from the window.
“Hey, come on! I'm all dressed up!” His complaint comes in a yell to be heard over the music, it makes you laugh and your resolve melts, being replaced by curiosity.
You notice the suit he's wearing before even opening the window and you have no choice but to run down the stairs towards the front door, Seth's voice badly singing you are, you are guiding your feet directly to where he stood in front of his car, white flower ironically matching your fluffy flip flops.
“I don't have a boombox.” He's out of breath, his voice raspy from the screaming and you're sure he's never looked or sounded this good before.
“You're such a dork, what in the 80's romance plot is this?” It’s a weak jab, especially considering he can see how moved you are by the way you quickly fidget with the rings adorning your fingers, he always loved to play with them as well when he was bored. He doesn’t say anything, waiting for the last notes of home, home, where I wanted to go echoing from his car to stop.
He takes your hands in his like a prayer, kisses the top of your fingers softly, tender and your heart feels bigger than your body. “So, last night I had this crazy dream, the most amazing, funny, talented and just… Very hot—” He stops to give you a look and you feel your insides warm up by the attention instantly. “—Girl I’ve ever met confessed she liked me and we had the most amazing night.” Seth sighs as he remembers the details he has stored in his mind, he surely doesn’t remember everything, most of it a blur that felt like a dream, looked like a haze, but he could remember the way your lips felt against his, against his neck, the way you sounded when you gasped and when you moaned his name. “And then I woke up and had to go back to my normal life.”
“And your normal life is texting the supposed most amazing, funny, talented, very hot girl you’ve ever met about Summer, first thing in the morning?” You sound bitter, and you look just the same, brows almost touching, lips turned. You quickly take your hands from his, crossing your arms over your body in an attempt to protect yourself from what’s to come.
“I mean, yeah, that sounds bad, but like, I wasn’t gonna text you hey, just woke up from a sex dream with you!” He is way too loud and it makes you laugh and shush him at the same time, “or just a good morning? Who texts their best friend good morning only, that’s just weird.”
“What about Summer?” You ask in almost a whisper, allowing yourself to get closer to him once more.
“I don’t even know who that is, for all I know we only have three seasons.” It’s a bad joke, but you know what he means, you always do, so you nod and look up to him, holding the jacket of his suit with both of your hands tenderly waiting for his move, and Seth might be a bit slow, and he might have missed years of clues coming from you, but he sees this one, holds your face with one of his hands and before you realize you’re finally feeling is lips against yours once again, no lingering taste of alcohol now, just mint and strawberry gum.

FINALLY caught up on TV shows I follow and watched new ones I’ve been meaning to check out…
Tumblr media
Only Murders in the Building, season 4 (Hulu) – a perfect blend of crime, mystery, comedy, and heart: this is a certified comfort show. I don’t know how it keeps managing to expand the universe of such a niche podcast, but four seasons in, it’s still at it. And it doesn’t feel like a hasty expansion—something created out of popularity and demand—because all this time it’s actually been laying the ground for a much bigger arc. Steve Martin and Martin Short together are comedic gold—that’s a given; but Meryl Streep and Martin Short?? That’s an on-screen and off-screen pairing I didn’t know I needed.
Tumblr media
Disclaimer* (Apple TV+) – this one’s difficult to discuss without spoilers but all you really need to know is it’s a psychological thriller written and directed by Alfonso Cuarón with Cate Blanchett at the helm. Parts of it feel clunky, with decisions made to force a narrative and serve a specific number of episodes, but if you can suspend your disbelief for that, it’s a meaty watch—heavy and triggering but also has you looking inwards and questioning your own prejudices. There is a gut punch of a line in the finale that will haunt you for the rest of your days, but it is worth watching the entire miniseries for.
Tumblr media
Nobody Wants This, season 1 (Netflix) – here’s where they’re wrong: EVERYBODY WANTS THIS… everyone who was a teenager around 2005, anyway. My teen idol, Veronica Mars, with my teen crush, Seth Cohen, in a television rom-com?? 17-year-old me would have imploded from sheer joy and jealousy. Apparently, this isn’t the first time Kristen Bell and Adam Brody have played romantic partners, but since I didn’t reach the fifth season of House of Lies, this is the first time I’m seeing them together. And they are as adorable and as sexy together as you would expect them to be. The biggest surprise was how sharp the script is—this breed of rom-com is rare in this day and age.
Tumblr media
The Franchise, season 1 (HBO Max) – this is a satirical comedy that pulls the curtain on the crazy shit a film crew—if they’re as unlucky as the Tecto team—has to put up with in the making of a superhero franchise. Would I have watched this if Daniel Brühl wasn’t in it? Maybe not. But I wouldn’t keep watching it if it wasn’t worthwhile. Created by the people behind Veep and Succession, it’s wickedly funny in a blink-and-you-miss-it kind of way. So, yeah, best watched with subtitles on.
Tumblr media
Slow Horses, season 4 (Apple TV+) – in some ways this is your typical British spy thriller that has nail-biting action, an unexpected mole, and a tragic death but, in many ways, it isn’t. The spies are losers who aren’t easy to root for, but against all odds, they somehow always save the day. It’s ridiculous and brilliant and hilarious and I love it so much. On its fourth season, it proves that it still has much to offer—might be its strongest yet—with little seeds they’ve planted early on finally bearing fruit. Easily the most underrated show on this list.
Tumblr media
The Day of the Jackal, season 1 (Peacock) – you know that episode in The Office (US) where they’re debating if Hilary Swank is hot or not? I had a similar one in my mind the entire time watching this—but with Eddie Redmayne on stand. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always liked him, I think he’s a phenomenal actor, but the most I would have ever described him was cute. This role had me seeing him in a whole new light though—not too different from when Benedict Cumberbatch took on the role of Sherlock. I don’t know if they’ve cast the new 007 yet but this could be the audition tape that puts him in the running. He’s SO GOOD that it’s easy to forget you're rooting for the villain. Redmayne’s Jackal has the steely precision of Jason Bourne, the disguises of Ethan Hunt minus the camp, and the sharp fashion and globetrotting lifestyle of a young and contemporary James Bond—what’s not to like? And, fuck yes, he’s hot.

1.4 The Debut
Seth Cohen x OC (Hailey Atwood)
Tumblr media
"You're going to need bedding, and maybe we can hang some lace curtains! Oh, and of course, you'll need a vanity. You probably don't want to share a bathroom with Seth, especially once school comes around." Mrs. Cohen said.
Seth peeked around the corner of the guest room- my room now, "Don't forget a 72-inch flatscreen and a second closet for all the clothes she's gonna accumulate."
"Very funny Seth, thank you." His mom said, rolling her eyes at her son's non-stop commentary.
Chiming in, I said, "Seth, you forgot about the huge sign that will be outside my door that says you aren't allowed in here."
"That's a great idea, Hailey," Mrs. Cohen laughed. I felt on top of the world at that show of likeness.
"Wait, Mom, what will she do about cotilion?" Cotilion?
****
Cotillion- an event that everyone has heard of, besides me. Where girls get together and are auctioned off in front of their loved ones. How sweet...
It's not that I detested the idea, it could be fun given the right circumstances. But I only know Ryan, Seth, and Marissa's boyfriend. Oh, and Mr. Cohen, of course, but I doubt Mrs. Cohen will share.
Yet, she still took it upon herself to sign me up. I protested, giving 101 reasons why it's a bad idea, but she insisted. Talking about how this is a chance to make friends before school and meet boys. But what she overlooked was that every available boy had a date. Hell, even Ryan managed to get partnered with Summer. Seth was... well he should have been beyond pissed. If anything, it was just mild disappointment that crossed his features.
But then even Seth got someone, another new girl named Anna. She was pretty, of course she was all the girls here were. But that left me, a stowaway in case one of the girls got sick or something.
Summer offered to help me find a dress, but Marissa was too caught up in the drama with my brother to give her best friend the attention she craved. Not that I minded, Summer and I just clicked like puzzle pieces.
I wanted to hate her just a little. But how could I when she was so sweet and smelled so good and helped me out when she didn't need to.
"This one's cute!" she said, pulling a gown off the rack, but after a glance at my height, she put it back. "I forget, not everyone's as tall as Marissa,"
"No worries, and seriously, thanks for helping me. I probably just would have picked the first one I saw,"
"Which is why I am your savior. You can't show up to the deb ball in just any dress. It has to be perfect."
I didn't know the first thing about dresses. I wanted to, of course. But given my previous situation, dresses and overall fashion wasn't something I had time to bother with.
'This one! This one! This one!" Summer exclaimed, throwing a dress my way. "Try it on!" she said, thrusting me toward the dressing room.
The girl had a lot of strength for being so lithe. I locked the door behind me and put the dress up to my body in the mirror.
It was chiffon with light straps. The bodice was fit to be almost corset-like, snug to my body until it opened into the skirt, which was flowy. Very fairy princess-esque. I put it on and smiled at the mirror, no matter how cliche. It was the first time I had ever been in a dress like this. First and last, seeing as I don't think I'll ever get married.
"Do you hate it?" Summer popped her head inside. The girl had zero sense of personal privacy.
"Summer!' Get out!" I squealed, but she squeezed her way inside.
"Wow, girl,"
"What? Is it bad?"
"Is it- are you kidding? If you were having trouble finding a date, you sure as hell won't be now. I mean seriously I think I might feel a little jealousy creeping in."
"Shut up," I giggled, pushing on her shoulder a bit, "As if you aren't a model and friends with other models."
"Good, so we are friends!" she smiled, stepping out of the room.
I heard her call for Mrs. Cohen, so I walked out.
What I didn't expect was for Ryan and Seth to round the corner as well.
"Wow," Seth breathed out, while his mom was much more vocal.
"Hailey! Darling, you look stunning! Doesn't she look beautiful?" she says, walking behind me and squeezing my shoulders, showing me off like I was her own.
Ryan chimed in first, "You look like you belong in a forest, playing in the trees," That was the best I was going to get from him.
I breathed in before answering, "Thanks, I think..."
Seth just stood with his mouth slightly open, staring with wide eyes. Feeling flustered, I turned in Mrs. Cohen's grasp. "You like it?"
"Oh, sweetheart, I love it!"
****
The next day, we came back to the country club for practice. What Mrs. Cohen neglected to tell Ryan and me, was that it was dance practice.
Ryan was so screwed. I, on the other hand, was just lonely. Standing off to the side like unwanted cake. With the way Ryan kept fumbling, it might just be better for me to become Summer's escort. I could dance better.
Seth and Anna seemed to be getting along fairly well. Good for her, he was a nice kid.
I had been sitting alone for about ten minutes until a different guy walked in. I hadn't seen him before.
"Sorry I'm late," he interrupted the class. The teacher looked unphased while Marissa left Luke to speak to the new kid. I saw her point in my direction and then walk back to Luke.
"You must be Hailey, right? I'm Issac," the boy, Issac, said, offering his hand to help me up.
I took it and answered, "Yeah, I'm Hailey. Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too, I've been tasked with being your escort to this ball," Oh god
"Excuse me?" I questioned, making sure I wasn't hearing things. I looked over to Seth and Ryan, and Seth had already been looking at me.
"Yeah, Marissa told me that she had a girl who needed a date. So, here I am, your white knight," He joked, but I didn't laugh.
I couldn't figure out what was more pathetic. Not having a date or having your date be bribed to bring you.
"You don't have to do this, you know," I say as he brings me onto the dance floor. We started copying everyone else, and I had look down at my feet to not trip up.
"Good thing I want to do this. Marissa said you were pretty, but sometimes she's too nice. Good thing this time she was honest,"
"Thanks, I think?"
"Anytime doll,"
We practiced the dances until the teacher called for a break. I went back over to my stuff while Issac followed.
"You like the curly-haired one or something?"
I practically spit out my water, "What?"
"If you weren't looking at your feet, you were glancing over your shoulder at him. Or is it the blonde you like? Can never be too sure around here,"
"No- I, I don't even know her. And as for Seth, 'cause he has a name, he just told me he couldn't dance is all, so I was waiting for him to trip up or something," I stuttered out.
"Whatever you say, doll,"
We sat in silence until the teacher started up again. This time I made sure to keep my eyes on my date, not anyone else's.
****
"Three hours of dancing? I'm going to dream about the moves tonight in some weird freaky flashmob scenario," I said, walking out with Ryan and Seth.
"Should have warned you," Seth mumbled. He was weird, but I didn't want to be the only one who noticed. "Who was that guy you were dancing with?"
Ryan shot his head toward Seth, "Why man, you don't know him?"
"Never seen him before,"
I chimed in, "His name is Issac. Marissa called him for me so I wasn't dateless,"
Seth fired back, "How old is he?"
"Not sure, but probably our age,"
"Does he go to school around here?"
"I don't know, I didn't ask," I answered, getting a little agitated.
"Do you know anything about him?"
"Oh my god, why? Do you want to fuck him or something?"
That got him to shut up, looking appalled at the insinuation. "No, No of course not. I was just curious. And worried, you never know. He could be an axe murderer,"
Ryan laughed, "Guess she won't know until she's axe murdered then,"
"That's not funny! That happens!"
"Not in this town," I said.
****
After that, we went home, but later on, the boys went out to a party. I stayed home, wanting some much-needed rest before the big day.
Instead, I learned to never skip a party. Luke and Ryan fought again, and Ryan decided that he wouldn't go to the ball. Which left Summer, dateless.
When we arrived at the venue, she was close to tears, "Hailey, this can't be happening! This is a dream for me. For my parents, what am I gonna do!"
I brought her in for a hug and thought about it. I wasn't supposed to be here anyways and this was totally unfair for her. Why should I debut, but she shouldn't? "Take my escort,"
She pulled away immediately, "What?'
"I'm serious, take Issac. He's super sweet and cute. You deserve this. I'm sorry my brother is the most dramatic guy in town," I laughed, trying to lighten her mood.
"But what about you? What about your dress and your debut?"
"I'll live. Go, introduce yourself,"
"Are you sure about this?" she sniffled one last time.
"I've never been more sure about something,"
She launched herself in my arms again, a slew of thanks spilling from her lips, before she bounded away, off to find her prince charming.
A little while later, Luke walked in, fuming. Shouting about how Marissa wasn't coming. A pit formed in my stomach, anyone but him.
I looked at Seth, who was busy talking with Anna. I was so screwed.
I kept my head down, hoping Luke wouldn't find out that I was available. Not like he would want me, but this thing was important.
I heard footsteps make their way over and my heart started racing. Someone tapped me on the shoulder, I reluctantly looked up.
To my surprise, a head of curls was in place of the spiky blonde I was expecting to see, "Seth?"
'I heard that you gave Summer your date,"
I nodded, wanting him to continue, "I let Anna go to Luke. She said her parents would like it better if she debuted with someone who had more status,"
"Oh," was all I could say. I felt bad for him. "You seemed to be getting along so well though,"
"Yeah, I tend to be a very good friend to girls. Nothing more though,"
"Sorry. Your mom is going to be so disappointed," I said looking down.
"Not if we go together,"
My head shot back up, "You would want to go with me? Like, be my date?"
"Doesn't look like I have another option,"
"Right..."
"Sorry, that came out wrong. Just that, of course, I would like to be your escort, if you'll have me," he said, getting down on one knee, more level with me.
I smiled at him, "But you don't even want to be here,"
"Yeah and you swore the same, yet here you are. With a little disappointed pout on your face. It's okay to want this, you know?"
"You'll be my date?"
He grabbed my hand, "Of course."
****
A/N: wow!!! I haven't updated this story in forever. To be fair, I didn't think anyone would really read it. But apparently, people are?? which is awesome! so here's part four! let me know your thoughts and if you want this to be continued <3

die hard — tell me about your plans for the christmas holidays and i’ll give you a song or two for you && ur account
my plans have already occurred because I’m so late to this celly HAHAH but mostly my holidays have consisted of beach time and really good food 😋
hehe no worries, and that sounds incredible!! i could do with a beach everything and you can never go wrong with some good food <3 do you have any plans for new years?
okok so i have multiple songs that i’ll link but first for purely the vibes, i’m going with mr brightside by the killers bc you remind me of the scene from the holiday where amanda dances to the song in iris’ gorgeous house. there’s just something so free and infectious about your energy that really invites you in which leads me onto my next song, big girl (you are beautiful) by MIKA which might be a bit overplayed but i love to listen to it when i’m down or need a pick me up and it’s fundamentally true, you are a beautiful human, inside and out.
for something blue and a little new, i’m going with seth cohen by beach weather. it’s got this beautiful summery beat with lyrics that have so much depth to them.
and finally, i’m going with two for your account’s vibes, last night’s mascara by griff and look at us now (honeycomb) by daisy jones and the six. i still feel like i’m missing something, like it needs some sade or laufey in there somewhere but i’m getting far too many ideas that i’d rather put into a playlist for you (hint hint).
hope you like them xx

"Ryan finally had a girlfriend that actually thought about him!!“ yes absolutely! I didn’t *hate* Marissa but I really disliked the Marissa/Ryan ship, they weren’t right together. Never even thought about it but it makes so much sense that you come from a The OC background.
The way you write modern Jon reminds me so much of Ryan (LOVE IT). So interesting that you tried to rework one of your existing fics into a Jonsa fic. I would honestly love a fic with some OC vibes. The only The OC Jonsa fic I’ve read was one where Sansa was put into Marissa‘s role and it did NOT fit. Thinking about it, Sandy and Kirsten Cohen definitely give off Ned and Cat vibes!
Also Happy Birthday!
I used to hate Marissa a lot, but I was younger then (it didn't help that the other people in my fandom vitriolically hated her lol). I can look back now and realize that Marissa was, unfortunately, the writer's favorite toy to create new drama, at the expense of her character.
And unlike almost every other character, she just wasn't fun for me (I will say, Seth sometimes bordered on too much for me, but usually he was fine). Like did Julie do terrible things? Sure, but oh boy when she showed up in a scene, I knew it would be a good time. I would rather watch her than Marissa any day of the week. Marissa would just suck the energy out of everything for me. But maybe that's a product of my old fandom, and I'd feel differently watching it now. I haven't rewatched in ages, tbh.
And I will say, I liked Marissa at the end of season 3! Because they were just wrapping up her character so she wasn't starting shit and she was actually just fun like she should've been the entire time. And they acknowledge that she & Ryan were toxic together, and better off as long distance friends. So when the time comes for her death, I'm actually sad!
I tried not to be too mean to Marissa in my fics... towards the end. Though I did write a one shot about her murdering Ryan lmaoooo. That's strictly on my livejournal... I think it's still there?
As for a Jonsa OC fic.... I've had one half written basically since I started writing fic again.
Ryan - Jon Trey - Aegon Sandy - Ned Kirsten - Cat Seth - Arya?
But there's where it sort of fails, because who is Sansa? Is SHE Seth? Where does she come in, unless I make her not related to the Cohen/Stark family. Or do I get rid of Kirsten/Cat, make her married to Jimmy/some other dude, and have Sansa as her daughter with Arya as Ned's?
Omg this got so long, but I'll include what I have written below the cut, which is literally just the opening scene, so don't get too excited lol.
The OC AU
They approach the car like it's prey, ducked down, creeping.
“I'm your big brother. If I don't teach you this, who will?" With that, Egg smashes out the window, the sound loud and echoing in the quiet alley. He opens the door and gets in, but Jon hesitates, looks over his shoulder towards the main road.
"Quit being a little bitch. Get in!"
And so Jon does, because he always does what Egg says. Just as he's about to get in the passenger side, it happens – a cop car rolls by on the main street, and Jon's heart lurches in his chest, but it passes.
And then it backs up.
“Come on!” Egg shouts, laughing and reckless. “Let's go, Jon!”
Jon slides into the passenger side and slams the door shut behind him, heart racing a mile a minute as Egg hotwires the car and gets it started, as the police cruiser turns down the alley.
And then they're off.
Down the street and out into the open, Egg pushing the throttle as hard as it can go, even on the small streets of Wintertown. Jon sits with one hand gripping the door handle, the other braced out in front of him on the dash.
“You should see your face, man,” Egg laughs, mouth wide, teeth glinting in the streetlights – sharp and dangerous. That same, reckless laughter Jon remembers from their father.
Sirens wail behind them and Jon knows this is it. This is where he finally dies, this is where everything catches up with him. At an intersection, Egg runs a red light, has to swerve to avoid an oncoming car.
“No, no, no, no,” Jon chants, shutting his eyes and bracing for impact. He doesn't know what they hit, just that he's thrown forward, the airbag slamming into his chest, the sound of crunching metal and squealing tires and sirens.
He feels groggy and weak as his eyes open, bright lights flashing and making him wince.
"Hands up! Get them up!" someone shouts. The police. "Hands on the dash where I can see them!"
For just a moment, Jon thinks about running. Pushing open the door, leaving Egg, and going as fast as his legs will take him. But his chest aches and his lungs burn and his head is spinning and so instead, he puts his hands up.

I randomly remembered that after the "being blackmailed into stealing a car" saga, Ryan was like oh God Marissa I was with you the whole night and Marissa was immediately like you ok? Yeah I'll be your allibi 😭
I just love that they were broken up here but of course the trust and the ease were still there and they were almost... functional? (which the writers can't let them be when they are together?)
And then Marissa drove him to the Cohen house (or Sandy's meeting? I don't really remember) and Ryan was freaking out because there were cops, and she was like "Don't worry you were with me the whole night". Turns out the cops were there because Seth smoked a bit too much weed and accidentally set the whole office in fire 😭😭
Ok I hope what I wrote makes sense but on a serious note, the whole "Marissa dragged Ryan into her mess" argument is just dumb and misogynistic because first of all, they willingly involve THEMSELVES in each other's mess; secondly Marissa got involved in plenty of Ryan's mess too (Trey? Hello??) and also in this case, we can say that Ryan involved her in his mess. (Of course, unless one thinks that Ryan assaulting Volchok over jealousy about Marissa is her fault and therefore getting blackmailed by him into stealing a car was her fault too.) Now, as a shipper I thought that Ryan's jealousy was delicious and V-Man was asking for it anyways but it wasn’t the right thing to do and ultimately the assault->blackmail->stealing pipeline was on Ryan and Volchok and no one else.
Marissa in 3x24 is such a delight to take in. For just two seconds they let up on her in the writing and it's like a breath of fresh air. The party was Sandy being named The Man of the Year for... some reason. Something to do with his shitty hospital executive storyline or whatever.
Of course it makes sense :) Yeah, that's always been a point of contention in discourse surrounding this show. Not only is Marissa helping people out of the goodness of her heart with a splash of a hero complex, but Ryan's doing the same damn thing. He is willingly putting himself in these same situations but she is the only one cast out as 'leading guys on' and 'not treating her partners right'. It's just exhausting. They're mirrors of one another in many ways and I'm not sure the s3 writers even realized it.
So I personally think Ryan's jealousy is also very hot, but one thing I love about Marissa is that she is never, ever impressed with Ryan's violence or machismo. I think it makes her so three-dimensional. Another way these people writing her had no idea they were crafting such a subversive, compelling teenage girl.

.sober seth is a coward
in which a drunk and clingy seth comes to your house
seth cohen x f!reader | self-indulgent fluff :3
there were two clues that led you to guess seth was completed drunk. the last text message he sent you — “hi this is SETh m at ur house NOW” — (which did sound a bit threatening), and the way he hammered the doorbell like he was trying to play a solo on it, all rhythm and no restraint.
the timing wasn’t exactly ideal, given that you had just finished the last step of your night routine, with your skin covered in a face mask and your hair tucked under a sparkly heating cap.
nevertheless, you still ran to open the door, carefully wrapped in your comfiest bath robe.
“oh- my cosmic salutations, space pal,” seth greeted you with a goofy smile, leaning on the doorframe. “i’m looking for my girlfriend. she used to live here.”
“ha-ha cohen, you-”
but your sarcastic reply was cut short when seth’s lips suddenly crashed onto yours. the faint taste of tequila and lemon lingered on your tongue as your mouth broke into a genuine grin.
“of course you would french kiss an alien, you nerd,” you chuckled when your lips parted, leaving a baby blue stain on his nose (something he did not notice at all).
in an attempt at looking sober, he tried to casually rest against the nearest wall and almost knocked over an awfully expensive china vase.
“so, i’m drunk,” he stated matter-of-factly, as if your house had suddenly turned into a courtroom. “and you look gorgeous.”
you returned the compliment with a flattered smile, and grabbed his arm to lead him upstairs. he needed to drink water, and to stay away from anything fragile and expensive, which meant the majority of your house.
he did not say a word while going up the stairs, only staring at you with the softest eyes. you had already been in company of drunk seth, but only in a party setting, and more importantly, not since you two were officially dating.
once in your room, seth collapsed on the bed with a dramatic groan.
“so how was the party?” you asked, handing him the water bottle on your nightstand.
“sooo lame. and you do not want seth cohen calling your party lame,” he replied, sliding an arm around your waist and pulling you onto the bed beside him.
you let out a surprised gasp, careful not to smudge your face mask on anything. as much as you wanted to sink into him completely, rinsing it off first seemed like the wiser choice. naturally, he groaned in protest, trying to keep you close, but eventually, he gave in and followed you to the bathroom.
a mix of puzzlement and fascination flickered across your boyfriend’s face as he watched the clay mask turn into a soapy lather while you washed it away. but most of all - and as always - there was love in the way he admired every inch of you. even as he slowly sipped his water, his gaze never left you.
“oh wait, there’s one last stain i missed,” you said, pulling your hair out from under the heating cap and quickly swiping the tip of his nose with your towel.
seth blinked a few times, snapping out of his thoughts, then pulled you back against him with an arm around your waist.
“someone’s clingier than usual,” you teased with a soft smile, running your fingers through his already messy curls.
“hey i deserve it. i survived a lame party without my girlfriend, i’m pretty sure someone’s carving an ice sculpture of me as we speak,” he teased, grinning down at you with a ridiculously proud smile,” he replied, grinning down at you with a ridiculously proud smile.
with one last peck on his nose, you freed yourself from his embrace to untie your robe and finally get ready for bed.
“oh my god, is this really happening?” seth gasped, gripping the edge of your sink for extra-drama.
“calm down cohen, i have clothes underneath,” you laughed, and indeed revealed your tank top and shorts. “hope you’re not too disappointed.”
“disappointed? fuck the ice sculpture, this is much better,” he said with wide eyes, just before closing the gap between the two of you to leave another kiss on your lips. “i should come here drunk and unannounced more often.”
you laughed at his words and welcomed another kiss on your lips, longer this time. seth felt dizzy, but there was no telling whether it was the tequila or the realization that he was exactly where he wanted to be.
his hand gently stroking your waist, he broke the kiss for half a second, long enough to whisper a short “i love you”.
“seth, you’re drunk.”
the kiss was really broken now. he frowned, and his hand stopped moving: “and your point is…? the two aren’t mutually exclusive.”
you could feel the heat rise up to your cheeks as he kept speaking: “besides, sober seth is too much of a coward. now, if you want to laugh at my face i can just say it was the alcohol speaking. and then i’ll probably leave the country and change my identity. no big deal.”
the shrug that followed his sentence was even more dramatic than usual. it was clear the alcohol wasn’t helping his attempts to play it cool, especially when it came to you. and that was probably your favorite thing about him.
as he nervously waited for your answer, you leaned in to seal your lips once again.
“i really hope this isn’t a goodbye kiss before you call me a cab for the airport,” he sighed, crossing his fingers on both hands.
you rolled your eyes at his remark, barely holding back a chuckle—which, of course, he noticed and seemed quite proud of. “my god, i’m in love with an idiot,” you said with a smile. and that smile only grew wider as he threw his fist in the air and let out a triumphant cheer.
“i was about to ask for a tylenol, but i’m just gonna ask if we can make out. if that’s okay with you,” he said with a quick glance towards your bed.
intent on keeping things playful, you gave him a gentle shove toward the bedroom, watching as he stumbled back and landed on the mattress. “well guess what? you get both.”
“wow,” he breathed out, watching in awe as you searched for a tablet. “tomorrow’s hangover is gonna be so worth it.”

3. The O.C.
4 years later and I'm back. It's safe to say that I'm somewhat of an expert at this show. I rewatch it at least twice a year. Let me just say CINEMATIC ART. Josh Schwartz actually ate down with this one. Okay here's my little spoiler warning -> SPOILERS AHEAD
The first episode is probably one of the best pilot episodes I've ever seen. From the beginning we get angst, we get drama, we get humor. Ugh it's just SO SO GOOD. Like are you joking? I can't even comprehend my thoughts I love this show. "Who are you?" "Whoever you want me to be." LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING. The soundtrack was iconic. The fashion, iconic. Some of the most quotable things. It was the perfect amount of drama for a teen show without going over the top (sorry Riverdale) and it was just so funny.
Character Review:
Marissa Cooper wasn't the worst person in the world, she was just hella misunderstood with a wacky mom and family. She is the human embodiment of a cry for help. Her mother is as they say - Julie Cooper. Although she loves her daughter, she loves status more. Some of her ideas were great, they just lacked in execution. And I know Marissa could be a pain, but she just needed help and love. She should've gotten that psychiatric help. But alas, she stays to add fuel to the fire. What is a teen drama without drama. She is such a nuanced character and I will not stand for the slander (maybe some but like SHE'S NOT ALL BAD CMOONN) She definitely did not deserve to leave the way she did. #rip
Ryan Atwood, the ultimate broody bad boy who's really a softie at heart. Literally could not catch a break. Went to jail (bc his brother wanted to steal a car) His girlfriend shot his brother (and we got a hilarious SNL skit out of it), burned down a staging home (luke's fault but still), got a girl pregnant (allegedly) and then she miscarried (lies), fell in love with Marissa (#rip) always felt like he had to fix everything for everyone (his downfall) became a cage fighter (cuz Marissa #rip) got kicked out of school senior year (cuz of Marissa #rip) came back to school (yay!) (my timeline if fked). I know his need to fix everything for everyone came from having to lock in throughout his childhood, but alas (again) where would the show be without it. Marissa was his real true love, no matter how toxic it was. They were literally written for each other. And super unpopular opinion but his relationship with Taylor near the end was cute! It might've been just what he needed. He was funny unintendedly and I loved the ongoing lore that he couldn't lie to save his life. and he was hot. NEXT
Seth mfking Cohen. I think the thing that got me was that he was just hella charming. He was a little shit, but his charm and humor got him through the show without being absolutely insufferable. Like all characters, he has his flaws but his character was there to make sure we weren't dark and gloomy all the time. I truly hope that after the time jump, he actually became a real person and not just a funny spoiled brat who is now an adult and married the love of his life. Now that I think about it, he didn't ever really have a true character arc, but at least he was goofy and funny. He's a perfectly imperfect character who has a purpose and executes it flawlessly.
Summer Roberts, loml. My favorite character of the series. From season 1, she has an EXPONENTIAL character arc. She turns from certified mean girl to a certified baddie with a heart as big as the sun. She always ate down with her outfits, had insane one liners, and was the one girl to always LOCK INNN when they needed her. When she actually ended up being a genius, I was OBSESSED. I liked how they approached this storyline as opposed to how Glee did it with Brittany. NO NOTES!
My favorite episode of the whole show was the one where they got locked in the mall after sorting clothes for the clothing drive. I love love love when shows do something fun to balance out the dread and drama. Them rolling around with the hockey masks looking like Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th was funny asf.
Rating: 9/10
minus 1 because (shockingly) i did not enjoy season 3. I didn't hate season 4 as much as everyone else, but the most insufferableness occurred during season 3 for me. Like Marissa's public school arc. Like Volchek (UGH) Like Johnny. #rip johnny but like BRUH CHILL OUT> However all the other points because of my favorite tv dad Sandy Cohen for saving the day (except when he cheated on his wife, that was so not cool sandy).

86 Thoughts while watching The OC season one episode 4: The Debut
1. I love that these early episodes really focused on the Cohens+1 as a family, and established these really deep dynamics.
2. Seth is such a shitty kid and it’s so funny in these early eps. It feels more endearing than like...shitty in later episodes.
3. Ryan getting adoptedddddddddd what a good lil math nerd.
4. Anyone who thinks Ryan is a bad boy I feel like you miss the point of the character. He has terrible luck, and a bad temper, but also, he is a MATH NERD who says whole sentences with his eyes.
5. “You steal a car? You burn down a house? You beat up the captain of the water polo team?” Let’s be real, Luke won that fight. Ryan isn’t a good fighter lol.
6. Kirsten is not a hugger.
7. Brody’s little groove walk is fun.
8. Califoniaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa here we cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmme
9. underpants!
10. Seth rolling around on Ryan’s bed like a puppy. Sir what.
11. He doesn’t have any things.
12. Poor Ryan, he does not know how to deal with this debutante thing.
13. Peggy deserved more than two episodes, she’s so salty and I love her. Where did she go???
14. Jimmy and Sandy are such strange frenemies. Like Jimmy so clearly still has a thing for Kirsten and Sandy knows. He knows, and he knows they have to play nice (for now), but he is not thrilled. He’s a friendly dude mostly, so he’s not gonna start shit just because, but like. He knows it’s bad.
15. My big quibble with this episode is that the girls’ dresses look incredibly cheap. At least for the main three girls they could have gone higher end. Or maybe it’s just that 2003 style.
16. I know Luke is like “bleh Ryan” but I can’t help thinking of it as a lil bi panic.
17. Summer trying to bang Ryan. Ryan like “I mean she’s hot but...but...but...”
18. Ryan and Summer should have banged.
19. Like not a relationship. But just. Boning.
20. I’ve warmed up to Marissa as I’ve gotten older. She’s very sweet in these early episodes.
21. That is so much wine Sandy just poured Kirsten. SO MUCH. BRUH YOUR WIFE HAS A DRINKING PROB- we’ll talk about next season.
22. I love all the comic books just lying around as set dressing.
23. Ryan’s favorite comic is Justice Society of America, and I love that for him. It’s very classic superhero, but it’s not one of the BIG ONES.
24. Poor Kirsten, finding out about Jimmy’s dumb shit.
25. Sandy is in full lawyer mode. “We have to tell everybody this dude stole from them.”
26. I wish I liked these dresses more.
27. But god the music cues are so on point. The soundtrack for the OC is just top notch, all thees years later.
28. And ask the world to stay away please....
29. Ryan is so sweet. He just can’t say no.
30. Fucking Jimmy.
31. God damn, Julie just spending every last cent. She doesn’t ask ever about their finances. She just assumes. But Jimmy let her believe they were more than fine.
32. Jimmy is such an idiot. I wish I liked him more. He’s supposed to be charming. I love Tate Donovan. But god. That character.
33. Try to enjoy this, please! I love Peggy. Justice for Peggy.
34. The dancing. Poor Ryan.
35. Who let Adam Brody out of his feral nerd cage? Whoever it was, I’m grateful.
36. Summer is such a douche in these early episodes. Her character arc is amazing through the series. Truly. one of my favorites in TV history.
37. i still don’t quite buy Ryan and Marissa’s chemistry. Part of it is that Misha Barton is so young, and she hasn’t had time to develop as an actress. I feel like if she’d been like two years older when she played Marissa it’d hit harder.
38. Annaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. God I love Anna. Again. She has such good chemistry with Seth and Ryan. Again. Ryan should have been allowed to date Anna.  The two with the most common sense in the whole bunch together? Power couple.
39. Kirsten, stop trying to save Jimmy he doesn’t deserve it.
40. Oh Holly. I would have loved for her to get a redemption arc. Like still kind of brainless, but more mature. Less shitty. She comes back in s4 and has learned nothing.
41. Ben McKenzie eye acting choices.
42. Jimmmyyyyyyyyyyyy karma said “hey hi how ya doin”
43. Barbecutionist.
44. Marissa watching Luke’s friends and feeling just so done. Girl I get it.
45. Poor Ryan. He just wants to go home and hide in his pool house and read comic books and not deal with this dumb crap.
46. Luke’s weird toxic masculinity is pretty rough. He gets a nice redemption arc later where he just turns into a golden retriever. I love that for him.
47. Yep. There’s the JSA issue.
48. Julie really wants to be a good mother, but she puts so much importance on appearance and image and perception. And dumping all of that on her very sensitive daughter is cruel.
49. I love Julie’s eye makeup.
50. Melinda Clarke is such a heavy hitter in this series. Julie Cooper, Urban Cougar was such a thing.
51. Sandy not going either. Sandy said fuck that.
52. Again, these dresses...they’re just not...great.
53. lol Sandy and Ryan just....”Nah.” “Yeah, me neither.”
54. THE BONDING. THE VIDEO GAMES. I love this dynamic so much.
55. Sandy serving truth. “They’ve all got secrets and they’re all terrified that the guy nextdoor is gonna find them out.”
56. It’s such a sweet moment, and then “You just stabbed me again.”
57. Summerrrrrrrrrrrrr.
58. lol Anna and Seth spewing comic book stuff.
59. YOU’RE A GIRL. Bitch I have been reading comic books since 1991.
60. The birth of the Summer/Seth/Anna triangle/almost thruple.
61. I just tried to liken them to Roy/Keeley/Jamie but there is no grumpy asshole.
62. But if it were Summer/Ryan/Anna, we would have a Lasso Thruple sitch.
63. But not really.
64. Sandy is the best. I swear.
65. Jimmy and karma doin that dance.
66. Luke is, in fact, an idiot.
67. “Stop hitting a dude who didn’t actually do anything to you.” “I AM LEAVING BECAUSE YOU MAKE SENSE!” Oy.
68. Anna is so charming. I love her.
69. Julie just dislikes Ryan so damn much. Christ.
70. “Confidence, Cohen!” Ugh. So cute.
71. I love Seth/Summer but Anna/Seth was also so so fun.
72. “We’re gonna go this way.” lol
73. We don’t see Summer walk by herself. I think that was a missed opportunity.
74. Peggyyyyyyyyyy! My beloved!
75. The sweetness of this scene lasts all of three seconds before Jimmy gets slugged in his face.
76. I love that they were never afraid of the fact that Marissa was just a lil taller than Ryan. the visual works so well for the show.
77. Here we go.
78.”Bad accounting.”
79. hot damn y’all this old man fight lol.
80. Julie’s shaking fingers is such a nice touch in this moment.
81. I guess Sandy figures karma has done its job on Jimmy and now he can be supportive. lol.
82. Seth and Annaaaaaaa. Jesus so cute. Even though they’re kind of the same person lol.
83. Another great music cue. To Sheila, by the Smashing Pumpkins.
84. I just. I want to like Marissa more. I’m still not sure why I can’t get there all these years later.
85. LOL Luke. With the weird sneak attack.
86. And that’s it. A last shot of Ryan alone, who should be heading home to avoid the police.

7 + seth cohen for an angsty blurb?
send me one of my boys + a prompt by @dumplingsjinson
seth + reader ⋆ "texting you is like an instinct of mine. whenever something shitty or good happens, you’re the first person I want to tell that to — and then I remember you probably don’t want to hear from me at all.”
That wasn't exactly true, you wanted to hear from him, talk to him, be with him. You weren't even mad at him per se. Cohen was the one who made things way more complicated than they had to be. You told him you loved him, not as a friend, but in a very lovesickly first love Gwen Stacy from The Amazing Spider-Man way, and he didn't say it back. He didn't say anything back actually besides saying he needed to sit down. After twenty minutes you left to soak in the embarrassment alone in your own house. It has been two weeks, no texts, no calls, the most you got from him was awkward gazing before classes and an invitation from his mother to some social event to be hosted by them. You obviously didn't bother to go, and now it's three in the goddamn morning, and you're cold and listening to him talk in your front yard. "It's not that I don't want to hear from you—" but you don't even have the time to finish, because he interrupts you, his voice sounding way sadder than before. "I can't say it back." A low pitched oh left your throat, that's why he was so sure you didn't want to hear from him, Seth assumed you understood what his reaction meant, unfortunately part of you still had hope. And now you were tearing up as you rubbed your arms trying to comfort yourself, because he's also the first person you want to tell anything that happens to you, so you have to choose between keeping that and watching very closely as he loves someone else, or you can get far far away to move on from him the fastest possible. Seth fidgets his hands and fingers very nervously not knowing if he should—if he can hug you at this point, but you're crying because of him and you're cold also because of him, and you're his best friend and it's his job to comfort you, so he effortlessly embraces you, his chin using your head as support, and you swear you feel some tears reach your hair as well.

hiiii 🤗 idk what’s been asked jdisj but tell me more about the ryan x taylor fic bc you know i’m obsessed with that 😅 or the buddie roommates au 🩵
hiii!
so, buddie roommates was answered here (it's still just an idea, but planning to get to it soon bc recently I randomly got some ideas for it haha)
and ryan x taylor! I'm so excited for this one - so, you know how they got sort of an open ending, not explicitly said if they end up together or not, aside from kissing on the train before she left for paris, and those smiles at each other at seth and summer's wedding haha
so my idea was: ryan's at berkeley, taylor is in paris (i don't remember if they said why she was going back but in this fic it's for college lol) and they keep in touch, talk as much as they can, but they're kinda in this limbo, not sure where they stand
so ryan invites taylor for chrismukkah (it's gonna be sophie's first chrismukkah and the first one in the new house in berkeley, and I'm planning some sweet cohen family feels haha) and they spend some time together, and talk, and probably have sex (bc you know taylor lol) and basically get together for sure, and then continue to have a long distance relationship
also might do a time skip to that last scene of the show bc as soon as i saw that, I thought about ryan talking to taylor about taking that kid in, and I wanna write that haha
and a lil snippet just for you <3 (it's not exactly what I want from this scene, probably gonna rephrase some stuff - like, I think ryan and summer keep in touch so he'd probably hear from her that she's coming but idk, we'll see haha)
“Hey, so, I was wondering if maybe you’d like to spend Christmukkah with us.” Ryan says, his fingers fiddling with the corner of his blanket. “Seth said Summer’s coming, too, and, you know, it’s Sophie’s first Chrismukkah. It’d be nice to have everyone there. Unless you’re going to Newport to spend it with your mom, I mean, no big deal.” he adds quickly, not wanting to pressure his maybe-girlfriend – he really needs to talk to her about what they are. He can’t believe he’s the one rambling, what the hell has she done to him.  “Oh, no, I’m so not spending Christmas with my mom.” Taylor laughs melodically, though it is a little sad, like every time she talks about her mom. As far as Ryan knows, they tried to have Thanksgiving together and it went just about as well as could be expected. “I’d love to spend it with you. There’s nothing like the holidays at the Cohen’s.” she adds, sing-songy, and Ryan wants to see her cute little smile so badly. “And of course I’d love to see Summer, I miss her.” “Oh, just Summer?” he asks teasingly. “Of course, who else would I miss?” she responds, tone equally joking.
thanks so much for the ask <3
ask me about my wips <3

First, Merry Chrismukkah & I hope you have a happy 2024! Second, I was wondering if an O.C. revival ever happened, how would it play out in terms of story, characters, & a R+M reunion? (I see it like the final scene in Titanic, the trope where they don't get a happy ending, but still end up together nonetheless)
Hello! Same to you! Happy belated Chrismukkah! ❤️🎄
Do you mean revival as if Marissa went off to Greece? I operate in this head canon daily so I'm always thinking up random scenarios. I'm personally of the mind that she goes to Greece, comes back a year or half a year later, enrolls in NYU, lives her best New York life, visits Providence a bit to see SS, becomes besties with Seth, has a college-spanning situationship with Ryan as they mine their high school traumas. Sometimes I wonder if RM would ever really talk everything out or if Marissa would hold things against Ryan unintentionally that keeps them in the situationship phase. I also see them deciding to be a couple again for good without ironing everything out and that coming back to bite them in the ass. Avoidant babies doing avoidant baby things.
As for the others, I imagine Julie marrying Neil but still making time for Jimmy when he pops back into her life. Which Marissa and Kaitlin are more than aware of and it impacts how they view love and marriage. Enter: convenient situationships.
I also sorta head canon that Marissa and Summer are more reticent about marriage than Ryan and Seth ever are. Ryan obviously comes from a broken home but has lived with the Cohens' since he was 16 and he and Seth don't really live with frayed parental relationships in the ways Marissa and Summer do. Sometimes I think that Seth proposes to Summer and that's when their relationship falls apart. I think they'd still find their way back to one another someday but it quickly dawns on Summer in college that she's been with one guy her whole life.
Kirsten starts a foundation for lower-income addicts in Southern California and Sandy gets back into the PD's office. There's no earthquake so the Cohen home endures.
Seth gets back into creating for Atomic County and has a fun, though sometimes tense, working relationship with Zach. There's no big-budget adaptation shit going on but it's steady money and mildly successful. At some point Seth plans to create a spinoff set on the east coast but is still figuring that out.
Seth visits New York a lot for work meetings and indie concerts and stays with Marissa who becomes his bestie. They smoke weed and talk about Allen Ginsburg. Seth-Ryan time is still on the books every week but it's hard to do so when they live on opposite coasts and have different schedules. Ryan grows mildly jealous that he sometimes gets more Marissa updates from Seth than he does Marissa herself. But them being such good friends warms his heart, and it warms Summer's too.
At some point Trey dies and it forces Ryan to face some things he's been pushing down for years. I think Marissa's been working on things in therapy but it's still a source of tension between them. Marissa's all-too-understanding that Ryan's confused about his grief and he's mad that he's grieving at all. It translates into them finally acknowledging this thing between them is built on a love that is unconditional and profound and has existed since they were 16. It's a connection that they've always been scared of losing if they were to ever give into it fully. Their propensity for jumping into full-on-yet-noncommunicative commitment in their youth contrasted with their friends-who-hook-up-nature in college is a twist I like imagining them taking, especially as their lives mellow out when living outside Newport.
As for the ending up together yet sorta unhappy ending, I can see Marissa and Ryan finally jumping into long-term commitment after years of being friends who hook up and it taking a while before it all slots into place. I do think it would, but there's the idea in their heads that maybe this is a relationship that cannot last because it's never been all that successful before. And I think they both have a ton of self-loathing to work through before their hearts can be open to the possibility of happily ever after.
