I recently binged all of Sense8, but even before I finished it, I'd already thought that every other media should have at least one Sense8 AU fanfic.

I mean, the idea of multiple people all over the world being psychically linked with one another as a sensate cluster, being able to visit each other and share knowledge and skills whenever it's needed? It's so fucking brilliant! Not to mention, all the queer themes, stories, and characters... It's all so beautiful 😭

I actually first got interested in this show through a Final Fantasy 16 fanfic that retells the story of FF16 so that all the Dominants (minus Joshua) are a sensate cluster. That in itself was interesting, but then I checked out the actual show, and I was hooked.

I even checked out the wiki just to look at the rules for clusters, and they seemed fairly simple: clusters can be as small as two people and as large as twelve people. And family members can be part of the same cluster, so Joshua could have also been part of the cluster in that FF16 fanfic, but the author's main reason for leaving him out was so that he and Clive wouldn't be able to...well...sense each other when things...got steamy...did I mention that there were a few times where the cluster in Sense8 all got together to...have some adult fun? Yeah, it's a very adult show, and the author of that fic was understandably valid for not making Clive and Joshua part of the same cluster.

But I feel like, for Sense8 style AUs, not everything has to be sexual among a cluster, ya know? 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, with these rules in mind, I feel like other fanfic writers could have a field day with this concept. I already first thought of a Sense8 style AU for Twiyor in Spy x Family because the idea of Loid and Yor being psychically connected is so juicy. Personally, I feel like this would nudge them closer to romantic territory compared to what's currently happening in canon lmao. Plus, just imagine when Yor gets shot in the butt, Loid feels it too 😳

Then I thought of a Sense8 AU for Avatar: The Last Airbender, though I wasn't the only one, where each Avatar would be bonded to multiple people in a cluster (the number of cluster members would vary with each Avatar); therefore, just like there is only one Avatar each lifetime, there can only be one cluster each lifetime.

And then...I thought of a Sense8 style AU for Dissidia: Final Fantasy. Imagine all sixteen Final Fantasy heroes (yes, I'm including Clive because why wouldn't I?) being a giant cluster despite all being in different realms! Wouldn't that be something? It'd be chaotic, that's for sure 😂

Finally - for now, at least - I figured a Sense8 AU could also work for the Heart Hotel in Kingdom Hearts. Just imagine Sora being connected to the rest of the Heart Hotel like sensates?

Phew, another long post where I ramble lol. What do you guys think of these ideas? I could probably write fics for this myself...but I have constantly wavering confidence and focus on fanfic writing, which is why I try to inspire ideas for other, better writers 💀

Being an enemy of Thor is a... precarious position to be in lmao

Even if it isn’t full blown “you owe me a blood payment” kind of enemy to him

I feel like the major turn point in how you both become Thor’s lover but also how your perceptions of one another change, is how you view the everyday things that he has to deal with and how it drives him to self destruction

You didn’t care that he was a God and wouldn’t have long term issues from drinking so much, you cared about the hurt it put him through and root of the problem

Because of that he began to see the many layers that make up your own life, your character, and how you deal (or don’t deal) with things

Basically you and him become positive influences for one another and confidants to each other’s issues

Expect a LOT of bickering between the two of you like even after the two of you become lovers, it’s still a main part of your relationship honestly

Though the kind of bickering changes after you and him become official

Beforehand it could be pretty backhanded and snippy, like you were just quipping back and forth cause there was some resemblance of bad blood between you and Thor

When you and Thor become official the bickering evolves into older married couple type bickering

Overall it’s pretty light hearted and in good fun

There isn’t a layer of venom behind each word anymore but instead softness and kindness

At times Thor will playfully scold you whenever you’re not careful or just plain naive lol

When you were enemies with him, his pet name for you was basically bone head

With the changes in tone comes changes in behavior as well

He hangs out with them from time to time and could use someone to keep him company

Will absolutely share his food and drink with you and if you wish, he’ll go to a more private place in order to spend quality time with you as well

When y’all were enemies, if you walked in to spend some time at the hall, he wouldn’t even so much as glance at you

And if he was drunk around you, he was a total ass, not just because he was white girl wasted but because he also really didn’t like you

Now, if he’s drunk around you, he’s still a bit mean, or mainly unresponsive

Though if the two of you are both drunk together, than that’s not a good thing for anybody lmao

You’ve always admired his tattoos and now that you’re lovers with him, you get to inspect them up close, admire and trace them with your fingers

It takes some encouragement to get Thor to have some fun and actually relax for once

I'm new to Tumblr. How do Tumblr users usually engage with each other?

well first of all welcome haha. the main ways to engage with people are:

liking and reblogging. platforms like instagram and tiktok run on likes and an algorithm, but on tumblr, people almost exclusively use their dashboard and turn off suggested content, so they’re only seeing what people actually reblog onto their dash. that’s why people on this site are so adamant about reblogs, because likes basically do nothing. i saw someone say once that anything you would like on a different social media, you should reblog on here, and i totally agree. and don’t worry about how old a post is, or about reblogging something you’ve previously reblogged. there are posts from 2014 that i regularly see on my dash a decade later, so literally don’t feel awkward, it’s 100% normal to engage with old posts.

tags. there are three main ways tags are used: labeling original content so people find it in searches, internal organization systems when reblogging or posting (for instance, many people have a tag for their original posts, and will tag reblogs by fandom or character or whatever - important note that reblogs do not show up in search results), and to make sotto voce comments on a post. it’s normal for people to make jokes, add their own commentary, ramble about something semi relevant, or say something to op in the tags on posts they reblog.

reblog additions. every time you reblog, you have the chance to add something to the post, which unlike tags will be retained when someone reblogs from you. a good rule of thumb is to comment instead of tagging when it’s something you actually want other people to engage with, as opposed to tags where you’re just kind of expressing yourself lol. don’t be surprised however if you see people’s tags getting screenshotted and added to a reblog. if this happens because the screenshotter likes what the tag writer said, it’s jokingly referred to as “passing peer review.” (and of course people screenshot tags to criticize or mock them as well.) essentially, tags are like being at a big group dinner and saying something to the person next to you as an aside, and then sometimes that person goes “hey everyone listen to this”

post comments. there’s also an option on every post (unless op has turned it off) for people to comment on the post itself, not on a specific reblog. mostly this is useful for talking to people on personal posts or posts with reblogs turned off. on a bigger post, just reblog it and put your thoughts in an addition or tag.

asks. seems like you figured this one out! lmao. asks are used for a wide variety of things, but essentially it can either be a prompt for someone to make a post or a way of having an interaction/conversation with someone without dming them.

dms. these work like dms everywhere else, except the functionality is limited and it kinda sucks.

games. there are also many varieties of games that people play with each other, ranging from ask games (things like “rec me some music” or a post with prompts and people send you some from that list), tag games (typically there are questions you answer then you tag other people to fill them out for themselves) handwriting tags, follow chains, giveaways, name/url playlists, and more. with the addition of polls, brackets have gotten popular too (eg the tumblr sexyman bracket). there also used to be a lot of in-character ask blogs, where a user would set up a blog and roleplay as a specific character that people could send questions to (there still are some but way fewer and way less popular than there used to be)

to be honest i feel like i have to put “discourse” and “drama” on this list too. people on this site loveeee having the most insane arguments of all time and then everyone else memes the hell out of it. google “sonic for real justice” for an example lmao. (of course there’s also very unfunny political and fandom discourse that goes on as well. i would advise you to avoid discourse blogs as a general rule regardless of whether you agree with their position or not)

tagging people. you can also @ people in posts you think they’d like or if you feel like they have relevant input. typically this is something you would do either to people you’ve spoken to before, or a big blog with an established persona and rapport with their followers (eg if you follow a blog about snakes and you see a random post with snake info that seems wrong but you’re not sure, so you tag them to ask for their expertise).

and this isn’t a specific “mode” of communication but it’s also a thing to “interpret” (for lack of a better word) other people’s posts. for instance, people drawing a photo from the original post (i cant find it but there was a post going around recently where op posted an aesthetic photo of an egg cooking and then several people painted it), or people trying/recreating something a post was about (example). it was also a thing for a minute there where people would rewrite funny exchanges as shakespearean dialogue

those are all the ways i can think of, although im sure i’ve missed some (if other people think of any pls add on!). good luck, and i hope you’re able to meet some cool people!

Yes! Because I feel guilty if I don't Because I don't honestly get a ton, so I can't be overwhelmed by it. If I was a big name, maybe I wouldn't reply to as many, but I don't get a ton, so I find it easier to handle. This is not me fishing for comments, I swear. I'm just as guilty of not commenting (I'm trying to do better, but I don't always remember, and I don't always have it in me. I do always kudos, though). I write for me (mostly), but if you enjoy it, great! If not, to each their own. But never feel obligated to comment on my fics. I would rather you read and say nothing than feel stressed/guilty for not commenting.

...hm. Considering the majority of my fics are either unfinished or prompted oneshots, I don't have a lot with angsty endings. I do have a lot with angst, though. Angsty ending? Hm. I'm going to have to go with I'm Gone, Gone, Gone, Gone.

Again with the ending thing 😂 It doesn't help that a lot of them are open-ended. And what kind of happy are we talking? Happy😁 or Happy 😏? But also you've asked one of the most indecisive people on the planet. The last one was easier. The whole thing is angst. (And I generally try to stick to happier/hopeful endings.) This, though? Pass. Someone else pick.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not on AO3? But AO3 is also bigger, and I don't post a lot. I live in my dark little corner on the interweb. I think most of the hate I've gotten was on FFN, and even then, I don't get a lot. Perks of writing for big fandoms, updating inconsistently, and generally having shorter fics. You get lost in the mix. (This is not a brag, but it's also not a complaint. I'm happy in my corner. Well...I'm content. Not ecstatic, not suffering.)

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Lots of smut. Does it all get posted? No 😂 Half, no, more than half of it doesn't even get written. You can guess on the kind. I have things that I won't write, but I feel like those are pretty limited. If I don't know it and it isn't a limit, I would probably at least try. (Ex: my most popular fic is a threesome, which I've never had, with a hemipene, which I've also never dealt with (I mean in the toy sense, I know human people do not have hemis.))

I don't write a lot of them. I'm just dipping my toes into writing them (for now, solely Maribat). I've had a shit ton of ideas for them (years ago I had one for a Doctor Who x H2O: Just Add Water fic, but that remains an idea in my OneDrive)

If I have, I don't know about it. I'm a singular grain of sand in a whole beach of authors. I'm harder to find, and I'm certainly not well-written enough for it. (At least, not to me.)

I'm sorry to break it to you, but we don't care about rules in this site. And yes, a lot of people use tumblr just to nerd about their interests or participate in online discourse or whatever, but A LOT of people use it to post and find nfsw content, even during the time when staff had banned it. Tumblr is wildly known as a horny site where people post their nudes and smut fanfictions and where sex workers can easily find an audience.

People should be appropriately tagging their posts and using tws, yes. That is a much more valid criticism. But you have no authority to tell people what to write or draw or post lmao.

About him being a minor, yeah, an adult picturing a 15 year old having sex is weird and I'm not defending it, but that is the internet. Block the users you see posting that content and continue with your day. BIG part of the nsfw content about minors is made BY minors and is meant to be consumed by other minors tho. (a lot of) Minors also feel horny and think about sex and want to read/see sexual content, and it is our responsibility as adults to stay away from that, but we can not tell teens and preteens that it is wrong and weird to feel horny about characters their age. That just doesn't make sense.

As for adults creating and consuming this content, most of us in the fandom grown up the characters and look up for other works where they are explicitly established as adults. We are not predatory. We are just horny nerds.

I really don’t care about aged up content. It’s technically not a crime. The rest is, though.

I'm obsessed with women that don't dress up their pain to be beautiful, and that don't polish their feelings to be consumed, but let them be rough and horrendous and genuine. I'm just so obsessed with how different the portrayal of depth is by women, how incredibly deep and thin it feels, not really to be seen, but to see women be a mess that adds nothing to the aesthetic of cleansness that has been assigned to women. To be ugly and dirty in their feelings and have moss grow in what they let sit on their minds. I'm obsessed with that Sylvia Plath quote about the ugly words pouring from our soul and Mitski and Venetta Octavia saying "I can be girl and woman and claws with teeth" and Fleabag and Ladybird and with myself as I see them and finally have a depthness to myself that feels more fitting than the one I've seen in movies about men and how complex "humans" are when they're just presenting a masculine perspective of how it truly feels like to be human, which was one of my favorite narratives until I found women expressing their own perspective and their own humanity which reflected to my own.

Hi! OP here and I just wanted to clear up a couple things super quick.

(Btw, thank you again to those in the replies who gently explained the tagging culture on here in more depth! I’m pretty new to Tumblr and it makes sense now! I appreciate y’all!)

So, to add on to this post:

I don’t think it’s an inherently bad thing that the tags exist! I apologize if I didn’t explain that well. It definitely is good for everyone to be able to curate their experiences and find their spaces through the tagging system!! Like I mentioned, blocking the anti tags is how I ended up doing that!

I also want to make it clear that being critical of certain aspects of the show or certain parts of the fandom is valid! I have my own critiques of both of these things!!

Another thing - fandom discourse is of course not automatically bad! I participate in it too sometimes! Not everyone is going to agree all the time and we all are going to have different perspectives and ideas!

The main point I had wanted to make with this post is that, before I blocked the tags, I had seen people say some…really interesting things when having discourse over these ships. I had seen people use the “anti-Zutara” tag to call Zutara shippers delusional. I had seen people use the “anti-Kataang” tag to essentially call Aang and anyone who likes him an ab*sive piece of shit. I had seen people threaten each other over this. That kind of stuff.

That’s the type of toxicity I had wanted to use this post to lightly touch on. It’s fandom - we should be having fun! Again, critique and analysis are all good and healthy and I enjoy those things too! But I do take issue with people getting hostile and being completely disrespectful to each other solely based on their (completely valid) ship or their favorite Gaang character. You can point out misinformation, a flaw in the writing, or a disagreement you have without doing that, y’know?? (I’m really not here to blast specific people btw - just to discuss a pattern I had seen!)

To me, as long as you aren’t being gross or harmful, we’re chill!!!!! And I think it’s important to remember that we’re all just humans who like the same media at the end of the day!

(Also, I think this is the last I’ll say about all of this for now before I go back to my fanfiction and fun character/plot analysis lmao. I’m not even personally invested in the Zutara vs. Kataang war since I enjoy them both, and honestly ATLA has way more to offer than just the romance and shipping!!! There’s the sociopolitical commentary, the found family, the individual characters, the world building, and so much more!!)

Multishipper here, and wtf is up with all of the discourse in the “anti Kataang” “anti Zutara” “anti Zukka” tags???

Guys, these are all valid ships😭I ship all three of them (tho Zukka is my favorite)! I know the Kataang vs. Zutara war is as old as time, but it just feels especially toxic on here - I ended up filtering out these anti tags (after getting a very kind reply about this, I definitely am glad that people use them so that it can be filtered lol). Anyway, it’s so easy to just live and let live and let people ship what they like!! There’s nothing inherently wrong with any of these three ships and they’re all very fun to think about!

In my opinion, as long as you aren’t attacking other people based on their ship and you’re respectful of all of the characters, we’re totally good!!!

ive been wanting to ramble bout this for years (like since 2019 HAHA) but i held off on it because i figured the fandom phenomenon i was seeing was gonna be a one off thing. something thatd fade with time.

it wasnt. it's still here and so i wanna articulate what i think about

the fast food-ification of fandom

here’s the thing about fandom right now; we operate on social media platforms that are inherently fast paced. social media platforms these days prioritize new and popular content, but more than that, it creates an audience that is always searching for new content very, very quickly. 

tumblr is a bit of a lesser evil, in terms of contributing to this (still does, tho, dont think im exempting hellsite derogatory, LMAO). but twitter, imo, is a hellscape with a system that hammers this in so so much: the lack of an explorable archive, no account specific tag search mechanism, a timeline algorithm that shows an account's followers the popular tweets first instead of chronologically and oftentimes even if you follow that account you will not be able to see all the tweets that account makes lest you go to the profile specifically. twitter is built for "new new new!" and it's not its fault, i guess, cuz it was not designed with fandom interaction in mind. still, it's become a very popular fandom platform and the "new new new!" mindset the system promotes ends up seeping into the members of fandom itself.

and there’s nothing wrong with wanting new content. but the problem here, i think, is the speed at which we consume fanwork. and the lack of memory for fanwork thats already been made.

fanwork consumption feels like it's going 100000000 mph with these kinds of systems and thanks to the lack of a navigate-able archive or tagging system, it's nigh impossible to find something from even last week. an incredible piece of fanart or fanfic or any fanwork gets attention for 3 days tops before it's lost and very very difficult to find. things are so fast and it's harder to remember them now.

swerve to another point: the trend of silence

im gonna bash on twitter again (SORRY KJSFBSD, like, i do have a twitter btw so im speaking from experience. i'd like to make it clear im not bashing ppl who do like/use twitter, im waving my hands frustratedly at twitter's systems) cuz tweet wc limits make it so that literally not much can be said! additionally, to add comments in QRT takes attention/notifs away from original poster, so if u QRT an art with praise, OP will see that! but if ppl reply more praise to the art on that QRT, OP will not get notified so that praise might as well have been yelled to the void

im a passionate believer that if youve got something nice to say about a fanwork and/or the creator of that fanwork, say it on their turf so they can see it. twitter makes it easier for this to not happen. positive attention and feedback matters so so much to creators and im p sure im not alone in saying that i cherish each and every comment (be it on ao3 or tumblr tags/comments or asks) ive ever gotten

and like, i know the argument to that is "make fanwork for yourself! dont make it for attention, do it cuz you enjoy it!" and "for every feedback you dont get, theres many lurkers who value and love what you do!"

i agree with that first thing very much but only the bit that says "do it cuz you enjoy it!" cuz yea! fandom is about having fun! but also like...isnt the point of fandom the fact that it's not just you alone, but you in a community?

a big draw of fandom, for me, is that it's likeminded deranged nerds all obsessed about the same thing. these are people on similar wavelengths and theyre people PLURAL. do fanwork cuz you enjoy it but the implication that a fancreator should be happy in isolation doesnt make sense cuz thats not what fandom is about.

and as for "there are lurkers who silently enjoy what you make" well...why?

why not say something when youve got something nice to say?

be it fanart or fanfic or fanmeta or anything, if the thought already pops up in your head, why not say it somewhere the creator can see it?

i totally understand if youre shy or if it's difficult to put into words whatever your thoughts are, like, huge mood. but also fandom becomes an infinitely funner space to be in when people are saying things

even a comment thats something simple and short makes the current landscape of fast paced churning out of fanworks feel less like we’re shouting in a forest alone, and more like we’re shouting in a forest and somebody yelled “I LOVED THIS” back. it’s really nice.

this is not a criticism towards anybody, but instead just kinda like, an inquiry to how we consume and interact with fanwork, these days. it’s really fast. like, so fast. tags update daily with new things every single day, every second, and it’s easy to just look and look and not say a thing. and that ease of fanwork consumption also makes it easy to forget just how hard it is to make things. how hard it is to make anything at all.

so much heart and effort is put into every work in fandom, and ive always seen fandom as a space for unapologetic enjoyment and community. treating fandom like a fast-food transaction where u get a thing in 5 minutes and drive off is...well, i dunno. but for me, among many things, it makes us forget just how much heart and effort is in all things.

Hello do you have any vampire Knight fic recs?

I do, nonnie! But they'll mostly be Kaname/Zero fics, that's my VK otp. And mostly long fics since I just love long fics the best. Sorry for the wait, I had to refresh my memory and check my ereader’s fic folder. So, here we go.

Crimson Door, Blood Moon and Secrets in the Dark and all fics of Blackened Wing’s AU universe. I would suggest reading three main fics in this particular order and then reading smaller ones however you please (they’re mostly missed scenes and side stories and they don’t impact the main plot much; my favorite is Five Hundred Miles, aka the jungle survival story). Anyone who had read something in VK probably had already read this, since it’s the fic(s) that kinda formed kaze fandom. But still, they should be here just in case someone somehow missed them. 

That’s a canon divergence AU that forks from the canon on rather early chapters, so many latest canon plot twists don’t happen here (Kaname is not Kuran the Ancestor but young orphaned Kuran heir and Yuuki is not a vampire/his relative, from big ones) and many things are also unique to this universe. Which makes it so delightful, but also sucks because you won’t find it anywhere else. And I kinda like how this universe unfolds more than canon one. It’s pretty slowburn at first and then has plenty of smut later on (and what a smut! if you need a finest vampire smut, it’s the right choice, everything that could be done with one’s neck/teeth/blood is done here and what couldn’t is done too lol). Relationship is mostly m/m, but the story goes through f/m/m threesome phase at some point (there is no f/m/m smut in major fics but it’s present in a couple of smaller ones). I personally hate threesomes tbh, but here is the rare case when I don’t mind, it adds to the story and isn’t so big too. “Secrets in the Dark” is unfinished but the main plot is already over at that point, so it doesn’t leave you hanging. Though there are unresolved mysteries left for a sequel that didn’t happen, but you can read it as finished too. Sorry for babbling but I just love it. It’s not without flaws ofc, don’t let me raise your expectations sky-high, but read it if you didn’t.

It’s a family drama set like 30 years into future. Zero marries human Yuuki, they get their happily ever after, but after a few dozen happy years Yuuki dies from an illness. Zero doesn’t really have reason to live anymore, and he doesn’t want to be Kaname’s charity case but Kaname can’t let him go. So there is a widower-with-kids Zero and Kaname who pined after him for years.

A tad boring for me personally because it’s so undramatic, but nice.

There is a sequel too, it’s unfinished but close to it, so it won’t leave you all frustrated.

Of course they have to save him, of course there is something wrong with him (as in, he’s not quite human), of course there are people searching for him and they’re not nice... Here is an author I feel conflicted about - on one hand, it’s a quite good author, on the other, our kinks/squicks differ a lot and ff.net doesn’t have tag system so you never really know when something squicky is going to jump on you. But I remember “The Stranger” being mostly ok in that regard so I can recommend it (don’t read the mini side story tho if you aren’t into incest; oh, and Kaname is an asshole but what’s new). From what I’ve also read of this author (because when there is not enough content, you get less picky and more brave heh), “A strange relationship“ has rather abrupt angst ending but you can kinda fix it in your head, “The right to choose“ sent me to Pluto with a pro-life stance of some characters even when I was ready for the forced pregnancy trope, “A place for us“ has various incest, infidelity, gerontophilia, rape, everyone-just-wants-Zero and so on. So beware. But if your kinks will align or you’re not easily squicked, then you find a lot of decently written multichapter and complete stuff to read.

You know, with patrols, uniforms, screaming Night Class fangirls, full moons, jumping from windows, secret meetings in a forest, exchanging blood for favors, falling in love with a rival... Nothing groundbreaking but I remember liking it quite a bit. Though now the notes say that the author edited smut out to save it from ff.net or something and I’m not sure if it’s worth reading in this state. I have an old unedited version saved in epub format tho, so if you’re desperate, probably it wouldn’t be a giant crime to share it.

But this one kinda stands pretty far from typical roads and I was intrigued enough to try. It’s pretty dark so be careful, there are rather brutal scenes of torture, rape and pedophilia I had to skim through (not between kaze and not shown as something good, but still). Timeskip after Yuuki leaves with Kaname, a rewrite of vampire society, purebloods are monsters and it’s shown in all gore-y details, Rido is alive (again), Yuuki is dead, Kaname is dying, there are intrigues of various levels, Zero is in the middle of this shit storm as a burnout bitter hunter mistreated by the hunter association. It’s like “VK meets Berserk” or so. I would’ve really liked to know how it ended, huh.

King's Gambit, Knight's Tour A short post-canon character study, it kinda strikes the nerve for me. Can recommend the author in general, I like their other fics too.

AU where it’s Kaname who turns Zero and it changes the flow of story in interesting ways (Zero doesn’t meet Yuuki etc). It’s angsty though, and the ending is kinda intertwined with the canon too. (Oh, here it is on ao3)

Some of these fics I had read pretty long ago though so I’m not sure if I’d like them right now or not. And it’s an old fandom, not very alive recently, so old fics tend to have certain tropes or manner of writing etc. Sorry if it’d be the case for you. But I hope you’ll find something you like :) 

(Also, if you’ll be searching for more, ff.net is your friend (albeit a cruel one, since, well, no tags). The majority of VK fics are archived there since ao3 was not a thing back when the fandom was most active. It’s a thing with many old fandoms. But you don’t have to read stuff on ff.net itself, it’s quite uncomfortable for longer reads. There are apps for downloading fics from there as epub/mobi/txt/pdf files and reading offline on your device. I personally use FanfictionDownloader for PC, and here or here you can do it online too).

Tbh, I think it’s important to first discuss that tagging here on tumblr is not the same as on ao3. Every social media platform has their own way of doing it though, even places like Instagram and Twitter are completely different. Here on Tumblr, tagging is used for putting things in other peoples orbit, organizing your own blog, and for short communication that may not fit the post’s theme. Ao3’s tagging is only for what is contained in the fic. If there’s gore, tag it! If there’s hand holding, tag it! The tags are for finding that fic and letting people know what’s in that fic. That’s it!

As for what you were asking, I found the anti saying of “tag and warn people of the content if you’re proship!” To be a misnomer. Mostly because proshippers are really good about tagging, but also because that’s not really what they mean when they say that. I’ve heard it a lot during my time both as an anti and while proship. And honestly, it’s just another excuse that antis give to dislike us more. First it’s “tag your triggering art/writing”, then it’s “why post it publicly, keep it on private accounts”, to “why are you sharing this to people in private servers, that’s creepy”, and “why make it at all? The fact that you’re making this even for yourself is horrible”, and finaly it becomes “your horrible thoughts mean you’re a bad person!”. There’s no winning with that sort of mentality, and from my experience in the antiship community, it always goes down this line of thought or something similar. Most antiships are trying to somehow rationalize their thought that art and writing that makes them feel yucky should be censored completely with a much simpler and nicer line of text that people would usually agree with that isn’t “censorship good”. I wouldn’t call it a dog whistle since it’s a fandom issue and I don’t want to minimize the harm that real dog whistles cause, but it’s very similar and honestly it really does follow how censorship is rationalized in the real world. Not just online.

Went off on a bit of a tangent, BUT! From my experience, proshippers are very adamant about proper tagging and are super considerate about tagging things that could be triggering or a squick for people. I’ve met very few proshippers who don’t tag their art and writing properly, because most of us know that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea! We don’t want people to see something they don’t want to, and the people who do look for it are able to find it! Plus, if you tag and give proper warnings, whoever clicks ahead is consenting to whatever could be on the other side. It may be perfectly fine for that person, or it could trigger them. Curiosity killed the cat, and I’ve been the cat in this situation many times lmao. It’s internet custody more than anything else. It’s not required, and nobody is forced to do it, but it is nice to have the warning! Nobody should be shamed if they don’t tag either. Part of being on the internet is being mentally prepared to see something horrible at any turn. And you WILL see things you wish you had not at some point. The best you can do is curate your experience the best you can and help to make it easier for others to navigate too. The proshippers who don’t tag are usually shitty people that others stay away from anyway, though not always! Imo, I’ve seen way more antis improperly tag their content. I should not have to read a tag on ao3 that reads “dni proshitters, you are all pedos” or “not incest, if you like inset then you suck” on a gay smut fic I’m trying to read (these are both things I’ve seen, paraphrased of coarse though lol).

To add to this, I’ve seen a lot of antis cross tagging here on Tumblr so that they can make sure proshippers see their post about hating us. Which isn’t cool since we’re trying to stay in our own tags, away from people who would rather not interact with us. It gets old after a while lol. Not to say that there’s not proshippers who also do this, but there’s bad people everywhere like I said previously. I’ve just found that the anti community encourages nasty behavior to a MUCH higher level. To the point where harassment is a major part of what being an anti is, and in fandom history, that’s exactly what being an anti is anyway.

In Supersons we see a couple of kids that are implied to be Damian and Jon's children and the boy has laser eyes and can fly, so I asume he's not adopted. The girl, who calls Bruce grandpa, can also fly, btw. So it's canon (probably by accident) that Jon can have kids and he must have married one of Bruce's kids. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? I actually don't mind it, and I’m actually kinda proficient in a couple of languages for it to work. I think though, if the point is for the character to not understand something, but to have readers who do understand a glimpse of a character or plot or etc, writers should try to put some kind of translation in the story whether it's in the author's notes or somehow in the text. Same thing for dialogue. If they don't want to translate in text OR in the author's notes, the meaning should be subtextually clear though, otherwise, just write something like "said in [x language]". 19. What was the first fandom you wrote for? ...that was so long ago I can't remember, it was back in elementary school. 20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written? My ABSOLUTE favorite??? This is like picking a favorite color or something.
