im not the pearl anon but also like . how far are u if you don't mind me asking ,
also !!! tbh i never rlly got past the 1st case of the second game ( the whole plot of that one weirded me out to where i just put it down , personal thing ) but i hope ur having fun with the games so far :]
im currently on AA investigations 1, im playing them in what i understand to be chronological order BARRING great ace attorney which i am going to save for the very end since they are the most recent releases. i actually think funnily enough this just about ends up being release order as well lol, maybe save for an exception here and there.
so it’s going/will go PW trilogy > AAI 1+2 > AJ trilogy > TGAA
although if im correct the layton crossover, while technically not canon, would otherwise go between investigations and apollo if it were. so i will likely do that as well before starting apollo.
also i would highly recommend giving the second game another shot! i totally get it, the intro case kinda sucks tbh. the rest of the trilogy is sooo much better i promise.

Thoughts about the Ace Attorney Video!
Overall I found it pretty fun, I actually really liked the kind of stilted animation, reminded me of the limited animation of the 2-d games! There's something absolutely delightful about Phoenix and Miles being so casual together, they are such a married couple (and I am the basic bitch that eats it up!! <3) It was really great hearing Eric Vale as Phoenix, he's my favorite and I just love the barely hinged horny energy he's got (just see all the bloopers for the anime lol!). In the comments, I did find out that Sam Riegal couldn't reprise his role from the games due to complications from Tonsil cancer, but he seems to be recovering! Edgeworth is a particular dork in this! There's something wonderful about hearing that voice say "weirdo" so casually! Do keep watching until the very end, you will LOVE it! gayass.JPEG
Overall, it's just a recap of the games (as I expected) with a little Ghost Trick cameo! They didn't cover Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright, but I'm assuming that's because Level 5 owns Layton so there's some complications there. They discuss the basic premise of each game and the rival prosecutors (the Weirdos lol), and it's great just hearing Wright and Edgeworth bounce off each other! I just love that upon Edgey wondering what trick he should learn after hearing about Nahyuta straight up binding Phoenix’s arm….. okay Mr. FREAKworth What I'm saying is that there's a lot of food for NRMT shippers, and I am FEASTING!! A little sad that there weren't any cameos from the assistants, especially Maya or Kay, but it was supposed to be a small little thing, so that's forgivable (for now XD) TBH my biggest bugbear is them saying that it's alright to play the games in any order.... don't listen to that, that's the devil talking, just start with the Phoenix Wright Trilogy and then AJ, that's all I ask, you can come across investigations and TGAA how you see fit, I promise it will be better for you XD I wasn't expecting much from the cryptic announcement, but I really liked the video, there were a lot of fun little easter eggs from the very first frame of the video and onwards.... let's just say it's making me suspiciously optimistic at how much Capcom is paying attention to AA recently... it's not not NOT impossible.... but that's a question for another day haha Video Here:

Use Your Imagination!
Original request: "For Day 12, I wanna see Kay up to mischief since the Investigations Collection came out recently! Maybe some Lee Edgeworth and Gummy too?"
Author’s note: Wooo, time to (finally) celebrate the release of the Investigation Collection with a fic! Here’s Day 12 of Tickletober: “Mischief,” “Ancient,” and “Wall” from August’s Tickletober List, Crow’s Tickletober List, and Nim’s Tickletober List! I hope you enjoy!
Series: Ace Attorney Investigations
Characters: Miles Edgeworth, Detective Gumshoe, Kay Faraday
Word count: 1,576
Summary: Kay is playing an imaginative adventure game to obtain a ‘treasure,’ but Edgeworth’s lack of imagination disrupts her game; that is, until she gets a mischievous idea to rope him into her adventure. (Side note: There are no spoilers that are mentioned so please enjoy!)
---
Imagine a tense sequence of an adventure movie, where the hero is in the depths of an underground cave, slowly approaching a room with ancient treasure that’s perched on top of a pedestal. That’s exactly the image that’s playing out in Kay’s brain currently.
She tiptoes towards a rounded table near the entrance of Edgeworth’s prosecutor office, keeping her eyes locked on the ‘treasure’ she wants to obtain—the legendary, convenient stapler (that she took from Edgeworth’s desk).
“The adventure approaches the pedestal, careful not to set off any traps,” Kay narrates for herself in a quiet whisper. “And then…she makes a run for it!” Kay picks up speed towards the stapler. As she closes in on the treasure, her vision of the prize becomes obstructed. She stops on her heels as Gumshoe steps in front of the table with his arms thrown out like a goalie and in prime position to block any adventurer from passing through.
“Nice try, pal! But you’ll have to get through me first!” Gumshoe smiles as he plays along with Kay’s game.
“Drats! A wall!” Kay exaggerates her words. “Not a problem! I can just go around it!” She attempts to run around to both sides to find an opening at a different angle, but Gumshoe mimics her movements to block her path.
“Or how about going through it!” Kay exclaims right as she charges at Gumshoe. She tries to duck under his arms, but Gumshoe catches her. She stretches her arms as far as she can and flails them towards the stapler like she was swimming to it, although she’s just out of reach, even when trying to push her way through Gumshoe’s barricade.
Kay wiggles herself backwards out of Gumshoe’s hold and stares up at her ‘obstacle.’
“Sorry, pal, but you’re not getting past me that easily!” Gumshoe says.
“Well then! If I can’t go around or through the wall, then I guess the only option left is to make the wall crumble!” Kay balls up her fist in determination. However, under the guise of her determination, there’s a glint in her eye that’s practically brimming with mischief.
“Good luck with that. Because whatever you do, this wall will not brea–hehehehey!” Gumshoe’s last word morphs into giggles when Kay lunges her hands at the detective and starts tickling him. The strength to keep his arms up falters and he quickly squeezes them to his sides for protection, then twists to his right from her attack.
“Demolition by ticking!” Kay grins as she follows the detective's movements and scribbles into one of his sides.
“Nohohoho! My one weheheheakness!” Gumshoe continues to play along with the game. A giggly yelp comes from Gumshoe when Kay’s hand’s scribble at his belly, causing the detective to nearly fold in half.
“Kahahahahay, whahahait!” Gumshoe breaks character through his giggles. He leans forward even more, “Thahahat reheheheally tickles!” He loses his balance and collapses to his knees. His hands wrap around himself as Kay and her hands still follow him down.
“Ah ha!” Kay exclaims victoriously. She pulls her hands from Gumshoe, then races to claim her prize.
“Now to just grab the treasure!” She reaches out for it, and just as she’s about to grab it, the stapler is snatched up by another hand right in front of her.
“Hey!” Kay looks up at the stapler now in the hands of Edgeworth. The prosecutor has loose papers in his hand and seemingly needs the stapler for its intended function. “Mr. Edgeworth!” Kay places her hands on her hips. “That’s my ancient treasure!”
“It is not treasure, Kay. It is my stapler and I need to use it,” Edgeworth says while looking at his paperwork instead of her. He begins to trot back to his desk.
“Aww, come on, Mr. Edgeworth!” Kay follows his footsteps. “Where’s your imagination?”
The prosecutor straightens his stack of papers and taps them on his desk.
“It’s on vacation,” he says bluntly. He clicks the stapler to the corner of the pages.
“Boooo! You’re no fun,” Kay jokingly insults him. “It’s like talking to a brick wall.” Just then, Kay blinks as if her vision needs clarity. She straightens her posture as an idea clicks in that playfully devious mind of hers.
She points her index finger in the air as her classic, mischievous smile makes its second appearance. “But walls are meant to be broken!”
Edgeworth still has his eyes on his paperwork as he places it down, “Kay, what are you talking abo–hohout!” Edgeworth yelps mid sentence as Kay lunges her hands at him, pushing his back to the desk. She wastes no time as she scribbles into his sides, causing Edgworth to lean back and brace his free hand on the surface of the desk. His other hand still holds the stapler as airy snickers begin to release from the prosecutor.
“Demolition by tickling part two!” Kay smiles.
“Kahahahay! Get ohohoff mehehe!” giggles start to pour from Edgeworth as he’s momentarily pinned between Kay and his desk.
“Then give me the stapler back, Mr. Edgeworth!” Kay attempts to reach for the stapler, but Edgeworth holds it above his head. The pause in Kay’s tickling allows Edgworth to sidestep out of his pinned position and reach the corner of his desk.
“I will not!” Edgeworth backs away as Kay steps closer.
“Then if you don’t give it back, you’re a thief!” she points at him. “And there’s only room for one Great Thief around here!” Kay smiles as she approaches Edgeworth. Edgworth backs up further and rounds the corner of his desk to his chair.
“How can I be a thief if it’s my stapler?!”
“Use your imagination! Remember, Mr. Edgeworth?” Kay says before running towards him.
“Kay, no!” Edgeworth runs in the other direction and around the rest of his desk with Kay chasing after him. The prosecutor rushes towards the front of the room, where Gumshoe is now standing.
“Get him, Gummy!” Kay shouts with a grin. As Edgeworth attempts to run past him, the detective wraps his arms around the prosecutor and spins around with him to halt his momentum.
“Gotcha!” Gumshoe says.
“Detective, don’t you dare!” Egdeworth frantically tries to wiggle himself out of Gumshoes' hold. He manages to get his arms free; however, Gumshoe throws his own arm across the prosecutor’s chest and pulls him back, then he puts Edgeworth’s stapler-holding arm in a headlock with his free arm to trap it. Gumshoe’s hand that’s wrapped across the prosecutor's chest immediately goes to work by tickling his underarm. Another yelp is followed by deep giggles that encase the prosecutor’s form.
Kay approaches with her hands on her hips again. “Ha ha! Looks like you set off a tickly trap while you were escaping! That’s why you gotta be a skilled adventurer like me,” she grins before winking at Gumshoe. “Thanks for the help, Gummy.”
“No problem, Kay,” Gumshoe smiles.
Kay moves forward and assists Gumshoe, using her fingers to wiggle into Edgeworth’s belly. “Now, hand over the treasure!”
“Whahahat if I rehehefuse? Hahaha!” Edgeworth attempts to stand his ground as he wheezes through his words. A shriek suddenly comes from the prosecutor when Kay’s fingers crawl their way up to his ribs.
“Then you get your ribs tickled, that’s what,” Kay grins, knowing that Edgeworth’s ribs are his weak point.
“Ahahalright! I gihihive! Juhuhuhust tahahake the stapler!”
“What stapler? I only see treasure,” Kay teases him one more time.
“The treasure, ohohokay?! Tahahake it!”
Kay jumps up and immediately snatches her prize from his hand. Gumshoe releases Edgeworth from his trap, causing the prosecutor to squeeze his arms to his sides as he recovers breaths of air.
“Pleasure doing business with you,” Kay takes a bow to celebrate her win.
“Glad you’re happy now,” Edgeworth uses one hand to rub his previously attacked ribs. “I’ll just use a paperclip or something as a temporary solution,” he begins to turn towards his desk.
“Nah, you can have it,” Kay holds out the stapler.
“Wh-What?!” Edgeworth stutters. “Kay, why did we just go through all of that if you didn’t even want the stapler?!” he questions.
“Yeah, Kay. I thought you said earlier that the stapler couldn’t be replaced with anything else as the treasure,” Gumshoe adds.
“I did it to have fun, of course,” Kay answers Edgeworth's question. “You need to have fun around the office more often. You’re lucky that Gummy and I are here to help with that.”
Edgeworth opens his mouth to begin a counter argument, but Kay speaks first.
“Come on, Gummy! Let’s imagine a new scene! This time, we can be on a train heist!”
“Sounds good to me, Kay!” Gumshoe replies and the two go back to their spot near the front of the office, after Kay runs over to return the stapler to Edgeworth’s desk.
Edgeworth rolls his eyes and disregards what he was going to say. He walks over to his desk, takes a seat, and grabs the paperwork he was working on. He straightens out another stack, then glances at the stapler now on his desk. Kay and Gumshoe’s new game can be heard in the background of his work. It doesn’t distract him, nor does it bother him. Truthfully, it makes the office a bit more lively; it makes it feel a bit less lonely.
Perhaps Kay, as mischievous as she can be, is right. The office just wouldn’t be the same without them.

ok ok ok so recently i've been playing through the ace attorney games (i haven't started three yet but i remember most of the plot bc of the anime) and for some reason i wanted to take a shot at what an "accurate" no DL-6 AU would look like! I just think it's interesting to see what might've actually happened if DL-6 never happened bc DL-6 is kinda the major butterfly effect in the AA world. Idk if i wanna make this an actual AU or just a ramble on how the series would be completely different without DL-6 lmao. We'll see! Maybe you guys decide :D anyway MAJOR AA TRILOGY SPOILERS AHEAD
I'll start with the characters. Gregory Edgeworth would still be alive, Miles would become a defense attorney & work with his father at his law firm. Phoenix would most likely pursue his artist career. Narumitsu/Wrightworth tbh would still happen bc they need to be canon PLEASE CAPCOM. Just that there would be no rivalry.
Anyway the Dahlia case would've been so different but also kinda the same without DL-6. It was because of DL-6 that Misty Fey left Kurain Village and Mia also left to become a defense attorney. Without Mia, it would've most likely only been Diego Armando taking on the first Dahlia case with Terry Fawles. Fawles would probably still commit suicide, and I believe Diego still would've investigated Dahlia further & gotten poisoned by her, but without Mia becoming a defense attorney & being killed by Redd White in 1-2, Diego would've never had a reason to become Godot so he probably would've stayed as a defense attorney. Furthermore, without Mia it most likely would've been Miles taking Phoenix as a client in 3-1 bc childhood friends never losing touch bc no DL-6 (you get the point lmfao).
Like, I think about maybe half the cases in the original trilogy would've NEVER happened if DL-6 never happened bc we would've never met Mia or Maya or Pearl, Yanni Yogi wouldn't need to take out his revenge, Von Karma wouldn't have been arrested, Franziska would've never wanted revenge so she most likely would've never come to Japanifornia, I think the only person that would never change is fucking LARRY and that's honestly the craziest part LMAO.
agh i'm getting kinda tired bc it's late so i'll probably finish this ramble tomorrow. there's so much I wanna talk about but my mind is going at like 1000 mph so I need to get my thoughts together lmfao
TLDR: DL-6 is the butterfly effect for the entire ace attorney world & many of the characters we know and love wouldn't even exist/be introduced if it weren't for it.
EDIT: removed the censor for suicide bc apparently tumblr is weird and idk how it works (please be nice ab me making mistakes next time I didn’t appreciate you guys basically yelling at me)

I used to play Magic: The Gathering for a decent chunk of my life. There's this one card that's always stuck with me, because it espouses a philosophy that I find interesting. I talk about this sometimes, when consuming heavily intellectual media. I mentioned it recently while doing Desuhiko's substory in Rain Code.
"The correct answer to a barbarian's riddle is to choke on your cleverness and die."
This is sort of what I'm getting at when I say things like, "Violence may not always be the best option, but it is always on the table." It's what I was thinking about during Yomi and Makoto's confrontation, when I was like, "Where did the guns go that were in Yomi's hands a second ago, and why isn't he just shooting everyone?"
It's something I think writers of intellectual media often forget about. Like. You've solved for the mystery, but have you solved for violence? If X person just starts throwing haymakers or discharging guns, how are you going to stop them?
This comes up, for instance, in Ace Attorney. The first Ace Attorney game has two separate instances where Phoenix manages to get his hands on critical game-ending evidence during investigation, only to be violently assaulted and have the evidence forcibly taken from him. A third time, he corners the killer outside of the courtroom and nearly ends up in a shallow grave for his trouble.
But Ace Attorney also runs into this as a flaw. The first Great Ace Attorney sees its protagonist Ryunosuke, at one point, solving a crime on a ship at ocean. The killer is someone beloved to all the crew, and all of the crew are in on it. It culminates when he reveals the truth to everyone... everyone who is co-conspiring on the murder, mind you... And. Then. What?
The game has it play out that the killer confesses and agrees to turn themselves over to the police when the ship enters port. But. No. That is not what would happen. What would happen is that Ryunosuke never makes it to port. People fall overboard and die at sea all the time. No one would ever see a day in prison.
Ryunosuke solved the puzzle, but the game failed to provide an adequate explanation for how he solved for violence, dragging down the mystery.
That's something I want mystery writers to always consider in these scenarios. Ask yourself: Have I written my protagonist into a situation where the culprit can just stab him and leave? Murderers are, by definition, people willing to use violence as a problem-solving tool. Don't get so caught up in your own cleverness that you forget the Barbarian's Riddle.

Are you looking to click with a new game and want something genuinely different?
I am always hunting for new titles to reinvigorate that click I feel with video games. Not all video games will click but when they do they can be something truly special. I wanted to go over some of my favorite games I’ve played in recent years that are available on current gen consoles. I’m not covering anyone upcoming, these are titles you can pick up today. Cheaply at that. Several of which are on sale on Steam right now as of writing this.
So. Enough chit chat. Lets’s start with an easy one:
Paradise Killer:
PC Switch PS4/PS5 Xbox
youtube
I just finished this one and am in the middle of writing my review on it. Painfully stylish with a killer vaporwave soundtrack this game oozes aesthetic. Kaizen Game Works understood the hauntology assignment and took it to the MAX. You are an investigator trying to solve an immortal god-like council’s murder in a dystopian society. You’ve returned to this gorgeous open world parasite paradise from your exile of 3 million days (about 8219 years)! If you’ve played Outer Wilds this is among that same vein. (And I will caution you, while not hard, the game relies on you wanting to just explore. It will provide hints but it won’t hold your hand.)
This is an Ace Attorney-esqe collectathon mixed with open world and exploration. There is no combat. Both the writing and the world are spectacular. Don’t deny yourself something this wonderful, because it is.
This has quickly risen among my gaming ranks as a favorite and it hits to being as close of a favorite as my number 2 suggestion…
Outer Wilds:
PC Switch PS4/PS5 Xbox
youtube
This is perhaps one of my favorite games of all time. I wanted to talk about this second because Outer Wilds has received more of the notoriety it deserves in recent times and I wanted PK to get the main spotlight. Don’t get it twisted though If it wasn’t for UpIsNotJump’s video (<— Spoilers) I would have never realized what I was missing. And I still think a lot of people don’t understand what they’re missing too. It is an absolute masterpiece. And seeing it getting released physically again is a god send. I want people to play this game. (And it’s DLC Echoes of The Eye)
No combat. You are a scientist exploring your local solar system in your spaceship in an open “universe” instead of an open world. The sun explodes every 22 minutes which sends your memories back in time. Again, I will caution you that the game relies on you wanting to explore. It will not direct you.
Eastward:
PC Switch Xbox
youtube
Too much exploring. Let’s reel it back with Eastward. A Zelda-like where you control an older man and a little girl with psychic powers in a post apocalyptic world. If you’re looking for those fun pixel games that pack that quirky feel this is it. A bit existential, a great sense of humor, and fantastic writing are all part of the Eastward package. (You startin’ to see a theme here? Ha ha)
All while boasting a seriously killer pixel soundtrack. The original Iron Carbine trailer for the Nintendo Direct had an immediate impact on me as a gamer. I knew this was a game I would fall in love with. Sometimes you just know when something is special. This game is beautifully pixelated and packed with lovingly crafted content. Puzzles are the right amount of challenging and there is so much fun side stuff to do. Including a Dragon Quest-esqe game inside the game! It also received DLC via Eastward Octopia! Which I also love.
Moon: A Remix RPG
PC Switch PS4/PS5
youtube
I do play games with combat. I swear. Several of these games just don’t have it! (Ha!) This will perhaps be the hardest game to sell to you on this list. I have a soft spot for quirky games like this, but know that this was a PS1 Japanese exclusive game in the 90s. And it sure acts like it. Slow to start, weak tutorial, and doesn’t provide a ton of direction. This game was ported into English for the first time in 2020 and I love it. It is a trial and error experience though.
This cult classic is one of the games that inspired Undertale and when you play it becomes wildly apparent. I dare say it reminds me more of Undertale than its other main inspiration Earthbound. You are a little boy that’s been fallen into his video game and you have to save the souls of monsters the hero has killed using love. (Sound familiar?)
Light hearted and weird this game also has a great sense of humor as it pokes at classic RPG tropes. And that slow intro comes into play providing a unique perspective as you journey through the game befriending people. It won’t be for everyone, I would research this one before sinking the… $18.99 on the purchase. But I think it is worth experiencing if you love Undertale.
I think I’ve yakked enough. If folks like the post I’ll follow up with a part two with a little more genre variety! I wanted to the first post to include my top favorites. So. I hope there’s something in there that invigorates you the way these games did for me.

☆ Please don't advertise stuff in my inbox either. It's become a huge problem and it bothers me a lot.

Thank you for tagging me @may-coops
Last song:
*nervous laughter* listen....i don't often get into music outside of vgm or anime, but Alien Stage really ruined me. (Also the narrative of Alien Stage and the animations do extra damage to me) https://youtu.be/z-OjzweMxVM?si=S2tebn0F8Gs8AsUv
Favourite colour: I really gravitate to light purples and also warm yellows and browns.
Currently watching: i started watching Mob Psycho again, i never finished the series and I wanted to finally tackle it but haven't been very consistent with it.
Last film: I legit am preoccupied with other things that I haven't really sat down to watch recently .
Sweet/spicy/savoury: i gravitate to sweet and savoury, my mood changes on what i prefer. I dont mind spicy but i have a very low tolerance for it
Current obsession: Ace Attorney, been playing through some of the games (currently on AA: Investigations) but i really want to replay The Great Ace Attorney as it is my favourite and i wanna see all my faves again
Last thing I googled: "how to see drafts on tumblr mobile", i genuinely have never used the app to ever post XD i mostly just use the browser version

hiiii lacy been into. gaming recently. should i get ace attorney. or other video game 🫂
LUCY!! if you want my honest answer...
ace attorney is styled like a visual novel but about deductive reasoning rather than. dating. ig. the unfortunate thing is that sometimes the deductive reasoning is sorta at the mercy of the plot and the nonsense logic of the world, which can lead to some frustrating situations where you know the answer but don't know how to say it, and I think thats my biggest criticism of the game. when you DO get it right, though, the feeling is VERY satisfying. the story can be stupid and silly just as much as it is hard hitting, and the main cast of characters are WONDERFUL.
I think the main deciding factor is: do you want a video game that is entirely reading. bc that is what it is. it is reading and logic puzzles. if that seems like a style of game that would suit you I say GO FOR IT ABSOLUTELY. I love the series so ofc im inclined to say yes, get it, but if that play style is not for you then obvs save your money.
if you do buy it, makes sure to buy the original phoenix wright trilogy and NOT the investigations collection, which is the one that released yesterday and that im currently playing. start with the original obviously, and b sure to block my tag for it. or I can make a spoiler tag just for you if you want me to :P
oh it also has my absolute favorite doomed/tragic sibling pair of all time so there's that for it.
#im doing playthroughs with like two separate groups of ppl rn and also playing the new game on my own so . erm .#I really like it obviously#and if thats not for you there's this really cool game called persona fi- *gets shot*#anyways you'll have to keep me posted!! :]#asks#lucy

Top Ten Ace Attorney Games
So this seems appropriate given recent announcements. Note: I’ve never played the Professor Layton crossover so it will not be on this list. Can’t really rank something you never interacted with, you know? Also, goes without saying but all opinions expressed in this are fully subjective and should be taken with a grain of salt. Like, seriously, guys. I’ve warned you.
10) Apollo Justice - Okay, so I just want to say that AA4 is not a bad game, but good lord is it the one I have the most problems with. Good things first, however. I love the dynamic between Apollo and Trucy. Their banter is so fun. I like this version of Phoenix. Really seems like he’s grown a lot in the time between games due to circumstances. I feel his relationship with Trucy could have been explored more but what we do get is good. Ema’s back, and I’ll never say no to that. Klavier is a good rival for Apollo. All that said, man do I remember barely anything about any of the cases of this game. Outside the main cast I remember Lamoire, Kristoph, and that a couple of Gramaryes are in this one. That last case also just... gives me a headache if I think about it too long.
9) Justice For All - Oh boy. So outside of introducing my favorite Prosecutor of the OG trilogy, JFA is a bit meh overall. Don’t get me wrong, Case 2 with all the Fey Drama is very solid and the final case... Come on, do I really need to say how good the Engarde Case is? I don’t even hate the Berry Big Circus case as much as most people (except for the very uncomfortable love triangle, that I detest) but even I can’t deny it’s one of the weaker cases in the series and the first case is... the whole amnesia device is more annoying than clever. Again, I’m sure I’m not saying anything new here.
8) Ace Attorney: Phoenix Wright - Man, I wonder if this is some form of sacrilegious putting the first game this low on the list. Honestly, there’s not much to truly criticize with this one. It’s a very solid first entry into what would grow into such a beloved franchise. But I also just don’t have a ton of things to say about it in general? At least not many that haven’t already been said by more articulate people than I. It’s a good game. Solid starting point. Weakest case is the first one but... It’s the first case. So. To be expected.
7) Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth - Admittedly, this is only so low because I love the other games more and the last case is.... unbearably long. It was brilliant of Capcom to take what is likely AA’s most popular character and give him his own games, and even better to give us characters like Kay and Lang while also giving us Tiny Franziska. We did not deserve Tiny Franziska but they gave her to us anyway. A very enjoyable foray with a new game-play style.
6) Trials and Tribulations - Oh man, I am going to get so much crap for this one. Before anyone comes at me! Yes! T&T is a near flawless entry. Genuinely, the writing for this one is insane and Dahlia is such a well used antagonist. The through line for this game is masterful. Even the third case, which is indeed the weakest case, I find some charm in. So don’t get me wrong, I’m well aware that objectively this probably should have at least been in the top three. But this isn’t an objective list. This is my list. And while I do love T&T, I just adore the games in the top five more.
5) Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Prosecutor’s Path - An improvement from the first Investigations in almost every way. While I do think that the last case is still a bit too long, I think it’s overall more interesting than the first’s. More of Kay, Miles, and Gumshoe having the best dynamic. The addition of Ray, Sebastian, and Justine only making the cast all the better. Again, I’m a sucker for Justine being the best mom ever and her dynamic with John (and even Sebastian) is something I wish we’d had more of.
4) Dual Destinies - I don’t care what ya’ll say, AA5 is a fun addition and Athena is an amazing new character. I freakin love Athena. Like, I’m sorry but any character that has been through that much crap and still manages to smile and cheer up the people around her even when she’s feeling the absolute worst is a good character and I will die on this hill. Not to mention Blackquill being an equally fantastic rival for our protagonists. And that reveal in the last case while Aura is forcing them to do a retrial for her brother! “Oh but Phoenix is back to being goofy and it’s like AA4 never happened.” “Oh, but Apollo is angsty for no reason.” Sorry, doesn’t bother me. Like, I’m not even willing to call these things nitpicks because they’re just such non-issues for me. The only thing I’ll say is that the models do look a little off sometimes. This is a good game, ya’ll are just mean.
3) Spirit of Justice - So confession, SOJ was the first AA game that I saw from start to finish. I’d tried before but I’d never found the right let’s play of the AA franchise. Then I did find one, and I watched SOJ through start to finish. And I really enjoyed it. I love the setting of Khura’in, Rayfa, the final boss looking like a Power Rangers’ villain. Also, while we do get a lot of father son stuff, I’m such a freakin sucker for the mother daughter stuff between Rayfa and Gharan and Amara. Also, the Magical Turnabout is just... such a fun case? And of course, Maya can’t be in a game without getting accused of murder. But her growth as a character is great. I just really really enjoy this game, guys.
2) Great Ace Attorney: Adventures - I’m sure this comes as very little shock to anyone who knows me. The first GAA game is astounding. I love this cast of characters so much. Susato, Ryu, Sherlock, Iris, Barok, Gina, Toby, they’re all great! The new mechanics with the jury and multiple witnesses on the stand are great. The story is great. Yeah, the first case goes on for too long, but at least it feels fresh due to the new setting and characters. I feel like I can’t properly articulate how much I love this game. Which, speaking of...
1) Great Ace Attorney: Resolve - Yeah, yeah. Predictable, I’m sure. But what can I say, this took everything I loved about the first game and just made it better and expanded on it. The story takes so many twists and turns and it takes the characters and their bonds from the first game and makes me love them even more. WE LOVE THE FOUND FAMILY TROPE! Kazuma comes back and he becomes such a fascinating character. Rei, Courtney Sithe, Esmeralda Tusspells, Drebber are only some of the memorable new characters for this part 2. The fight against Stronghart (Vortex is still the cooler name) is such a triumphant moment! And playing as Susato in the first case!? That was amazing! And Ryu’s growth throughout all of this!? Like excuse me! I love this boy!

Sicktember Day 20: Cramping Pain
Fandom: Ace Attorney Characters: Maya Fey, Phoenix Wright, Dick Gumshoe, Pearl Fey, Godot, Larry Butz, channeled!Mia Fey Notes: So this idea quite literally came to me in a dream last night so I am obligated to write it. Maya’s very clearly not doing so great during a long-awaited investigation reunion of sorts. She insists she’s fine, though, because it has been way too long since she’s had the opportunity to not only investigate with Nick but also see some familiar faces. Of course, it’s Sicktember, there’s no such thing as “fine!” Again, set post-SoJ for timeline purposes, no real big spoilers beyond T&T here, just that it’s been a good while since Maya and Nick got the chance for an old fashioned investigation. There are small mentions of background Magshoe, Fradrian, Miego, and past Feychols, but nothing really impactful on the story.
“... And that’s when he showed me his sword collection! One of them looked just like the one the Steel Samurai used in episode–” Maya’s retelling of last weekend’s events was once again cut off by a wince and instinctive press of both her hands on her abdomen.
“Maya, I’m starting to think you might not be feeling up to today’s investigation. You know, you can go back to the office any time and use one of the heating pads there. Athena and Trucy made sure the bathroom cabinet’s fully stocked, too…” Phoenix dug through his suit pockets to find the office key he was more than ready to hand over. Maya already had the original office key, but after an incident with Trucy attempting to pick locks while blindfolded, both the office door’s lock and key needed replacements.
“No, Nick, it’s not cramps like that! I’m on the pill, anyway.” Maya took a deep breath through clenched teeth as pain waved over her once again. “It’s kinda… worse,” she held up her right hand to stop Phoenix from interjecting, “but I can handle it! Trust me, Nick!”
“Alright.” Phoenix had no intention of arguing with Maya, especially when they both were eagerly looking forward to this investigation. “Wait, I thought you weren’t allowed to go on the pill. Kurain politics and all that.”
“I’m breaking the cycle.” Maya shrugged with as much of a grin as she could muster.
“Aw man, you were the one who broke my bicycle, pal?” The familiar voice of Detective Gumshoe joined the conversation, though he clearly lacked enough context. “I mean, it’s not that bad with my new salary, but I wish you would’ve told me!”
“Detective Gumshoe!” Maya ignored the misguided accusation and ran into a hug with the scruffy detective. He wasn’t very scruffy anymore; in fact, it was so clear he had recently shaved that Maya could smell the aftershave on him. The strong chemical smell made her nose run, but she didn’t care. She missed the big guy so much! “It’s been forever! How’ve you been? How’s Maggey? How’s–”
“Woah, woah! Calm down.” Gumshoe chuckled heartily. “Maggey and I have been doing fine. Missile’s been dealing with a bit of arthritis lately, but the vet said he’s in otherwise great shape.”
“Aw, poor old guy.” Maya’s eyes wettened in sympathy. “I hope he’s not in too much pain–!!” Speak of the devil, her own pain was making itself known again.
“Did I hug you too tight, pal?” Gumshoe stepped back to give Maya some space. He waited a few seconds to see if she would be alright, only for her to still be doubled over in pain.
“Maya!!” Phoenix couldn’t help but shout. A memory of his daughter flashed in his mind, prompting him to feel Maya’s forehead out of pure instinct. “Gumshoe! Get an ambulance! I think it might be her appendix!”
“On it, pal!”
. . .
The nurses told him that she’d be fine, so why was Phoenix’s mind still playing a loop of everything that could go wrong? Was it because he should have figured out what was going on sooner? Was it because he remembered Trucy’s medicated ramblings about Houdini’s demise prior to her own appendectomy? The latter certainly didn’t help, especially when he was sure that was a moment his family could look back on with light laughter in the future. Clearly, whatever that future was hadn’t come yet.
“Is Mystic Maya okay?” Pearl’s arrival and worried questioning brought Phoenix back to the present. “I would’ve come sooner, but Mr. Godot got pulled over…”
It made sense for Godot to come with, now that Phoenix really thought about it. His relationship with Mia essentially made Maya family in all but blood. With the Kurain Channeling Technique, Mia’s death was hardly an obstacle for that, at least once Godot was finally free from the grasp of needing to find someone, anyone to blame for what happened.
“Surgery wrapped up about a half hour ago. The last nurse I spoke to said she’s still asleep, but she should be fine.” Stating the situation aloud helped Phoenix to calm his own worries.
“So help me if anything–” Godot started, but quickly calmed himself once Phoenix’s words registered and he saw Pearl’s relieved expression. “I’m, uh, glad she’s doing alright.” He corrected his initial angry tone.
“Is it okay if Mr. Godot and I make a trip to the gift shop?” Pearl asked. “We saw some Pink Princess themed ‘Get Well’ balloons on our way here.”
“Sure,” Phoenix nodded, “I’ll, uh, be here and let you know if we can see her once you get back.”
. . .
Phoenix wasn’t sure if Maya had woken up well before the last time he checked in with the nurse or Pearls and Godot just took a really long time buying nearly every Steel Samurai and Pink Princess themed item they could afford at the hospital gift shop. Either way, the three of them were not at all the first visitors Maya received.
Larry was right there at Maya’s bedside, puzzling Phoenix because he was in such a rush that he hadn’t had an opportunity to inform anyone besides Pearls.
“Nick!” A unison greeting from the two beckoned him closer.
“Larry was reading one of his books to the kids in the hospital playroom.” Maya explained happily, but she still sounded groggy. “He was on his way out when he saw me in the window.”
“Not a lot of people have a topknot quite like Maya’s.” Larry laughed before returning his attention to the recovering patient. “Franzy and Adrian hope you get well soon, by the way, and Edgey’s boarding a flight here as we speak.”
“Please tell me you were at least aware of what was fully going on before you told anyone.” Phoenix pleaded, not wanting a repeat of the time Larry had nearly everyone convinced he had died after falling into Eagle River.
“Well, uh, not really…” Larry answered sheepishly.
“It’s okay! I’m okay with my condition being shrouded in mystery.” Maya smiled. “You need to lighten up, Nick.”
That was easy to say when Maya wasn’t the one internally panicking in the waiting room over what sounded like a matter of life and death.
“That reminds me, Pearls and Godot are here, too.” Phoenix gestured to the open door, not sure what was taking the two so long until the pair walking in did not include Pearl. Well, technically, Pearl was there, but…
“Sis!” Maya recognized Mia right away.
“Mia?” Phoenix pulled his channeled mentor aside. “What about Pearls?”
“She figured Maya would want to see me first.” Mia handed over a Get Well card filled to the brim with Pearl’s handwriting. “She did a great job of filling me in, too. Now, if you’ll excuse me…” She wiggled her arm free from Phoenix’s loose grasp and went back over to Maya’s bedside, which Larry happily stepped aside from to give Mia priority.
Godot stood next to Phoenix, giving him a look encouraging him to let the sisters have their moment. Even if Phoenix was a little intimidated by the close proximity, it was clear Godot had no hostile intentions toward him, which still felt almost foreign, if Phoenix was being honest.
“I’m gonna look so badass with this scar!” Maya beamed. It was almost like Mia’s presence alone boosted her energy significantly. “You know, when Penny and I were going out, I think she had a scar like this, too. I’m gonna text her a pic once I can get out of bed without feeling like I’m about to keel over.”
“Sounds like you still need a lot of rest.” Mia observed. “Do you want to go back to sleep?”
“Noooooo!” Maya protested. “I was gonna watch the Samurai Series DVDs that Nick borrowed, that is, if he felt bad enough for me to finally return them.” Though she still wanted those DVDs back, her teasing was lighthearted.
“I returned them!” Phoenix interrupted to object.
“Not all of them!” Maya turned back to Mia and lowered her voice. “He’s been holding on to the Sniffling Samurai box set for way too long.”
“Oh, has he?” Mia raised a brow. “A curious choice for someone you’ve told me swears up and down that the Samurai Series stopped being good after the Rainbow Samurai.” She shot Phoenix a devilish grin.
“Alright, I’m going straight home to return them and grab the portable DVD player, too.” Phoenix threw his hands up. “Do you want anything else?”
“Maybe some lunch?” Maya suggested innocently, almost too innocently. “The usual, please!” There it was, turning the suggestion into a demand.
Phoenix sighed and left, with Godot and Larry following him just after a wave and some goodbyes in order to give the sisters their time alone.
“So, what else have you been up to, Maya?” Mia continued the conversation once the crowd left. “I’ve heard you caused a stir with some of the older folks back home.”
“Oh, like you wouldn’t believe!” Maya started. “See, it started a couple years ago when I decided…”
The sisters went on to discuss all kinds of matters, filling each other in on various events. Maya spoke mostly about her efforts in making the village a better place, using her power as master whenever anyone tried preventing her hometown from trying anything new. Mia had some updates on the sights she was able to see while channeled by various trainees around the country; being a sort of celebrity within the Fey clan had its perks like that.
When Phoenix returned with the lunch, returned DVDs, and portable DVD player, he simply quietly set the bags near the bed before heading out to let Mia and Maya keep chatting.
What a lucky woman Maya was, to have a sister who refused to let even death itself prevent her from checking in on her when she was in the hospital.
Not many people could say they had a sister like that, could they?

Thinking of quitting the Pokémon binge and all the storylines. I just wasn't having fun with it anymore and it felt more like a chore to me. The only real fun I had with it was the battle scenes, and even coming up with those started to get a little bit tedious. Maybe creative writing just isn't for me.
On a more positive note, I have been brewing a NEW project for a little while now(one that doesn't involve RPing, thank god): a Mystery Game Binge! Anything with intrigue, murder, sleuthing and/or general crime-solving, I'll be attempting to play it! I've got a whole bunch of games and series I'm planning on playing through and I'd love to have you here to witness my LIVE reactions and thoughts on everything going down in them!
I'd also love for more recommendations! I'm already gonna be doing this for a long time with the games I currently have planned; but what the hell, the longer we can keep this going the better! In fact, just recently, I was able to add another game to the list with the unannounced release of The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog. If this takes as long as I expect it to, I might even be able to add Professor Layton and the New World of Steam and Detective Pikachu 2 to the list later on!
This is the current list of games/series:
Ace Attorney series (main series, Investigations, TGAAC, PLvPW:AA)
Professor Layton series
Danganronpa series
AI: The Somnium Files series
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
Detective Pikachu
The Murder of Sonic The Hedgehog
Master Detective Archives: Rain Code
Tyrion Cuthbert: Attorney of the Arcane
Again, any and all recommendations are appreciated! I'd love to discover more mystery games, especially some more obscure ones!

Rants under the read more
Himiko Toga/Yuri: Look. I STARTED shipping them for the obvious cursed reason; but soon realized that their relationship could actually be really wholesome. Toga is 17, and Yuri is at least 18 but still in high school, so it's not much of an age gap. Toga is canonically bisexual (and Yuri is her type ;D), Yuri's sexuality is unknown but it wouldn't be surprising if she liked girls (also come on! her name is YURI!) Toga is cheery and extroverted, while Yuri seems reserved at first and needs a bit of encouragement to come out of her shell, so I think they would balance each other out. Also, Yuri seems the sort to plan grand romantic gestures, which I think Toga would really like! Imagine them doing arts and crafts together, or drinking hibiscus tea, or reading creepypasta... Both of them just want someone who will accept them for who they are without shame or judgement. Would it be a normal healthy relationship? No. Not at all. But would it make both of these characters happy? I think it would, and not just because of their shared yandere tendencies and disturbing fetishes. I think they could find love.
Shi-Long Lang/Miles Edgeworth: Alright so this is about Shi-Long Lang and Miles Edgeworth from the hit video game series Ace Attorney. Listen. I get it. I am *also* a diehard wrightworth enjoyer. I will never deny that Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth were 100% meant to be until the ends of time. But they're ALSO one of the slowest slowburns to have EVER slowburned and dear god Edgeworth needs something during those 20+ years besides hopeless pining give the guy a break. I just recently got to the Investigations games (there's two of them), where you play as Edgeworth and your rival for those games is Lang instead of Phoenix. I love his confident agressive wolf-themed attitude and strong hatred of prosecutors, its an interesting foil compared to Edgeworth's calm and cool but equally confident and snarky demeanor. Lang's hatred of prosecutors is an interesting foil to how Edgeworth used to always believe that Defense attorneys were the enemy for defending "the guilty", though he's since moved on past that belief and has now encountered someone who is still stuck in their old ways. They both have too much confidence for their own good and it makes for some fun moments when one catches the other off-guard because they're ALWAYS waiting for an opportunity to do that. I just think it would be neat if they held hands and kissed for a while then amicably parted ways on good terms due to conflicts with work or long distance or some shit. They could be good for each other. I love gay people. Thank you for your time
