So, I just watched A Family Affair on Netflix and I have to say I wasn't expecting much from it. I didn't even watch the trailer. I saw the one clip that happened to play automatically, read the summary, and I kind of just decided, "Okay, I'm about to watch this mediocre movie on Netflix." And it is a mediocre movie. That is true. Still, though, I had more emotional reaction to it than I expected. I was pleasantly surprised to find out Kathy Bates is in it (alongside Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, & Joey King) and additionally pleasantly surprised to see Liza Koshy. Plus there was a small scene with an actress who was in Dead to Me which is one of my favorite shows and I think I should probably look up her name. Olivia Macklin. Okay. Yeah, her role in Dead to Me was not a big one, but I'm always going to remember it and it was a delight to spot her in this movie as well.

I also didn't expect ANY sort of Christmas vibes from this movie, and I love horribly cheesy Christmas things so this is almost basically a Christmas movie but also enough not one that I think it could stand alone as just a regular rom-com/drama even if it is not Christmas time. It struck that particular balance incredibly well.

I genuinely cried at one point in the movie, but it could just be because I have mom issues. Yeah. On second thought, I definitely cried because of two things- I have mom issues, and I'm a sensitive bean who is very overwhelmed by everything right now (including my mom issues). I enjoyed that the plot wasn't entirely just on the romance, but also about family dynamics and friendship dynamics. Anyway, this is a long and disorganized review that manages to say very little for the amount of words I've typed, and it's also 2:13am at the present moment and I have to babysit in the morning at 10am, so I'm really thinking I should wrap this up and sleep, and maybe I shouldn't even post this but guess what I AM ABOUT TO HIT THE POST NOW BUTTON. Yeehaw.
