Some of the marauders fandom makes me exhausted, you guys do know that the marauders were assholes right? The Snape thing wasn’t James and Sirius being sweet baby boys trying to protect themselves, it was a back and forth of bullying, they were rivals, Snape wasn’t just an evil greasy little man, and James wasn’t a sweet innocent can do no wrong little baby. It was a RIVALRY.

Let James Potter have flaws Jesus Christ. On that note, let Snape have SOME type of character BESIDES being bad. If your only take away from Snape and Lily’s relationship was that it was bad for Lily and that Lily was an idiot for not being able to see Snape’s red flags, you’re objectively incorrect.

This can also be said vice versa for Snape stans. James Potter was not an evil bully, he was a popular asshole, like MOST teenage boys are, however he grew and was objectively a good person.

To add commenting “Stan Bambi” on a positive Snape post does not make you cool or funny, it makes you mildly annoying at best, however commenting “James Potter was a bully” on a positive James post, makes you a mild annoyance at best as well.

Literally just let people like characters, this goes for both Snape fans AND Marauders fans.

the thing is, i find canon lily is boring (i also find other characters' canon versions boring) and i don't have any opinion abt canon lily either. canon lily is not an interesting character to me bcuz i like morally grey characters and characters that has layers. but canon lily is just some woman who got pregnant in the middle of a war and she was smart and she died for her baby and that's it. i don't get the hype of lily but i don't usually go around talk abt my hatred for lily either. i just ignore her presence? i am not a jily shipper and have never been but this wasn't bcuz of i ship jegulus or i ship other ppl w james and lily. it's mainly bcuz they're textbook streotype couple. she was smart and she ignored her until he grown mature and then they had a baby and that's it. and i don't really care abt any canon factor bcuz of the problematic author so yeah me ignoring lily isn't mainly bcuz i have beef w lily personally. i don't like other characters as well as lily but people only asking for lily so it comes off as i only hate her bla bla bla.

with that being said, i love my version of lily and which u can read from here also if u search lily evans tag on my blog i'm sure there are other posts abt me talking abt my perception of her :)

Btw, for the anons in my askbox who keep harassing jegulus, I don't have a new ask to answer, but I just wanted to say one more thing:

It is completely correct to be annoyed about unrelated posts being tagged with your tag, I understand that, I wouldn't want that to happen to me either

But

My post was related. I tagged it jily because I was talking about jily and I ship it too

Just because I also ship jegulus and also talked about it (I wasn't even talking about either one, I just mentioned them) doesn't mean that it is an unrelated post

And my problem with how you've approached me is the way you're treating jegulus, you're calling it anti-jily which it isn't, (a person can fall in love multiple times with multiple people and sometimes even the same time, and also a person can ship multiple things at the same time) you keep harassing Regulus (and jegulus) which you're free to do in your own community, they are fictional characters and there will always be some you hate, but you're doing it intentionally in my face while knowing that I ship jegulus and value Regulus more than you do, which is very rude

There will be posts with ships you don't like that show up in one of your tags, that's unavoidable, but you can't just jump into someone's askbox and harass their ship, demanding them to take the tags out of their posts, that's not how tumblr works (since you're so serious about how tumblr is supposed to work, which, it doesn't btw, tumblr doesn't work, there is no algotythm, you get what you get, you have to deal with it, and there is still the block button, and I'm not talking about blocking tags, I'm talking about blocking blogs)

I don't wanna start describing what tags are for, they're used for a lot of stuff actually, but if someone mentions something in their post that they feel is relevand to it, they're going to tag it accordingly

Um, possibly Karma by Taylor Swift since that was the last song she sang in her concert and I spent a /lot/ (too much) of yesterday finding clips from the said concert. Also currently have this is me trying open in a tab but haven’t listened to it yet. 

Last Show: (referring to my previous answer) Watching a concert online doesn’t count, right? In that case, I think it was Diandra’s (a Finnish singer) concert in November. Yeah, I don’t really get to go to these often bc I live in the middle of nowhere :d

Currently watching: I watch very few TV shows these days (aside from certain anime but I’m not gonna list them here) but I currently have a tinykittens (a Canadian cat rescue organisation) livestream open and I take a peek at it every once in a while. Those Bramble kittens are super cute ♥ (I would absolutely love it if I happened to have a fellow TinyVillager following me! So if you do, pls come talk to me!)

Currently reading: While my TBR list is ever growing, I have to be honest, I haven’t really been reading published books for several months now. Blame the Jily fics. They are way better :P But if I have to mention one, I’ve been reading this book by the Finnish translator of Harry Potter (Jaana Kapari) where she tells about her translating process and it’s honestly pretty interesting, makes me wish I was a translator too.

(As for the Jily fics, do not ask me how many fic tabs I have currently open. I literally just visited the Jily tag here and was like :--------O ‘Oh wow, a lot of authors seem to have decided to post stuff last night’)

Current obsession: my poor friend @criis55 who has to listen to my ramblings every day would be able to testify for this: currently it’s Taylor Swift. I wanna talk about what my relationship with her music is because I’m not a long time Swiftie unlike so many of the people I’ve seen here are. I first started paying attention to some of her songs maaaaybe around the time I started writing Caleo fics so ~ 2020 (obviously I knew some of her hit songs before that but I couldn’t call myself a fan) but a year later she released Red (TV), incl. All Too Well 10 minute version and that was probably when I started thinking, hey, this song is wonderful, I should give a chance to her other songs too. Since then I’ve been slowly getting more familiar with her other albums (it’s been a longish process bc she has a /lot/ of songs and as a non native English speaker I need to be able to see the lyrics to know what’s really going on in the song) and found more songs that I enjoy. This very week is an important milestone to me when it comes to me being her fan because she just released 4 new songs/new versions of her old songs and started her tour and I get to follow it from the beginning and as a relatively new fan I find all that really exciting. Hence you may also see me talking about this more here on tumblr as well.

Okay, so I was gonna let this review just rot where it was, but — as “Rebecca” intended — obviously I can’t stop thinking about it. And while I’m an adult who can’t get insulted out of a fandom and shamed from creating the art I wanna share, maybe the next person they try to come for will be silenced bc of this one person’s warped point of view and their insistence on spreading the superiority of their personal beliefs and boundaries. And that’s dumb — especially since they seem incapable of reading a warning.

Big sigh. Biiiiiiiiiig fucking sigh.

First of all, I want to say how frigging stupid this is, because I know me and this girl are on the same side even if she’s too holier-than-thou to see it. We’re both attracted to Jily for a reason, and one of those reasons is we’re not all those things she just superficially accused me of.

Second, this review is just so pretentious and condescending that… dude. I mean, I guess it’s no surprise that she read something that upset her on this forum, but instead of addressing it here, she anonymously wrote a review on FF and not AO3, because one allows for responses and one doesn’t. I can infer that she didn’t want an actual dialogue or nuanced discussion about the topics she brought up, but instead just wanted to lecture someone and feel better about herself. That much is obvious, but here we go anyway.

I acknowledge that anytime you have to start an argument by saying “I’m not racist or antisemitic like you just implied” you’ve already lost — something I’m sure she was well aware of, because this seems like an accusation she is well versed with leveling to try to win the moral high ground — but I’ll start with that bc, ffs, obviously I’m not, and I don’t condone any form of racist or antisemitic behavior. We just don’t live in the same reality where a fanfiction written of two characters from Harry Potter fucking each other all over the castle (which is literally the entire premise and point of the story…) mean such a thing. Like, wtf man. What type of twisted, trigger-happy universe does she live in? Stories can exist for purely hedonistic purposes and don’t need to have a moral. This isn’t a children’s book — it’s an adult fiction that was labeled and tagged as such.

And I don’t normally talk for other people (but I don’t think they’ll mind in this case), but I don’t think that either my readers or I are friggin nazi sympathizers for enjoying a story where a good girl fucks a bad guy (a premise as old as time). Again. For fuck’s sake. Saying such a thing is super insulting to people who actually have to deal with issues like fucking nazis. (Have your minds all melted from the stupidity of this all? Bc mine has.)

She asked me to consider what I’m writing, but I’d ask her to consider the slander she’s slinging. Because these insults aren’t just directed at me, but everyone who might have enjoyed a bout of escapism — perhaps from some of the very same shit she’s pretending she cares about and wanted to virtue signal every chance she got. (We get it. You think you’re a “very good person” and people who enjoy kinky sex are not.) But she forgot: it’s a flipping story. No one is getting hurt, it is meant for pure, unadulterated enjoyment. She knew she wouldn’t like it, but she read it anyway. She even acknowledged this fact in the first line of her review when she said that to her, Jily was inherently good. Great! Then don’t read a fic where one of them isn’t!! I think she came in wanting something to be mad about (and again, make herself feel superior) and then was glad that she found it so she could flaunt that feeling. So, at the very least, I hope writing that review gave her whatever she wanted out of the confrontation. No really — I do. Because that she’s trying to stifle someone from making art means she’s probably dealing with some shit, and I really do hope whatever she’s going through gets better. Because she said she didn’t understand why I wrote this fic, but girl, you’re just like the main character: you knew something was going to be bad for you… and you did it anyway. That is the entire premise of EW. So… maybe reading it helped her come to terms with herself a little bit? 🤷🏼‍♀️ One can hope.

More on the original point, I can’t believe I have to explain such a thing as perspective, but here it goes: how people interpret themes and characters, and whole fucking dramas that they’ve made up in their heads, is not how other people do. I’m glad she cares about such things as social justice — I really am, and more people should care in the real world — but trying to shame people out of what turns them on is not the way to achieve those goals. It’s a waste of her energy and mine defending myself when, AGAIN, I know we’re on the same fucking side. She isn’t making the world a less shitty place by making people feel ashamed of being turned on by the two people they want to see fucking, fucking. She’s just not. If she needs me to elaborate that further, she’s probably a child that shouldn’t be reading this kind of story (condescending remarks that make false assumptions about you aren’t fun, are they?) or an adult that knows that kink-shaming is no longer socially acceptable, but is still having a really hard time putting that principle into practice — opting instead to be a performative ally and merely say she’s cool with kink.

This is such a bad faith argument, but I’ll bite. For the first part, I spent 200k words describing how it’s different (your prejudices and superiority complex are really showing with your phrasing there…), so if you want to comprehend that, feel free to hate read it again. For the second claim… you make a lot of assumptions about others, but no I don’t bash other ships, I let people live their lives free of judgement. It’s not that hard.

“What I do not understand is why the same smut couldn’t have been with, like, good Jily?”

………. Because the whole premise is she wants to hook up with someone that she shouldn’t want to. Like. “Okay, why can’t you just have your story without the plot?” What kind of question is this 🤯 I already wrote canon Jily. If morally dubious content is not your jam, don’t read it, but don’t shame people for wanting to read something different than everything else out there with their Jily. How I write Jily doesn’t threaten you.

Also, just… the audacity to read an entire fic you claim to hate, and then complain about something that was in the prelude the whole time. I mean… I just?? 🤨 I warned it was not a romance, I warned it was an unhealthy relationship, and seriously? Lily turns out to be a bad guy that rules them all, so I dunno man…

Take your puritanical pearls and go clutch them somewhere else.

Wiping your nose on the back of your hand you brushed away the tears that had tracked trails down your face, you didn’t want the people who just entered, who undoubtedly were your boyfriend and girlfriend, to see you like this.

“Angel?” James’ voice called out, matched by the thumping of his feet against the hardwood of the floor as he made his way over to your bed. 

“She in there Jamie?” Lily’s melodic voice chimed as she toed off her shoes, abandoning them by the door before tracing her boyfriend’s footsteps to the side of your bed.

“Don’t know,” He murmured, pushing the drapes around your bed open to reveal you in your swaddle of blankets.

You were turned away from them so they couldn’t see that you were awake, staying as still as humanly possible you hoped that they would just think you were asleep and settle in on Lily’s bed on the opposite side of the dorm. 

“You think she’s asleep?” James whispered, or rather his form of whispering which really was just breathy speaking at a normal volume. 

“Shh,” Lily scolded him, moving so that she could perch herself on the side of the bed, “Hey there pretty baby, you awake in there?”

You couldn’t help but relax under her touch as her hand rubbed up and down your back, slipping underneath the hem of your shirt. Her hand was freezing against your skin, causing you to let out a little yelp that gave you away.

“Yeah she’s awake,” Lily muttered but you refused to turn over to face them, knowing that your puffy eyes and runny nose would give you away.

“Why’s she ignoring us then Flower?” James frowned, sitting behind Lily so that her back was pressed to his chest.

“Don’t know,” She responded glumly, “You okay in there my love?”

“M’fine,” You responded, your voice hoarse, hoping they’d take the hint that you wanted to be alone right now and give you your space, but they knew you better than that and weren’t just about to leave you there.

Rightly not believing you James pushed himself onto the bed, climbing to your other side and squeezing himself in next to you on the narrow bed. 

You tried to hide your face in the swath of blankets around you but you weren’t quick enough and James caught a glimpse of your face, a frown tugged downwards on his lips at the sight.

“Baby,” He cooed, sliding his index and middle finger under the curvature of your jaw so that he could pull your face up towards his, “Why’ve you been crying?”

“Haven’t,” You sniffled unconvincingly as you felt another weight settle in behind you, and in no time at all Lily’s chilly hands had found their way back under your top, smearing up and down your tummy.

“It’s okay if you have been,” She murmured into the delicate skin of your neck, “S’okay to cry, we just wanna help our pretty baby, how can we help?”

“S-just,” You began, turning over on your back so that you could look at both of them, but stopped when your voice cracked and you felt tears brimming up in your eyes and threatening to spill over. 

“What is it, angel?” James asked, wiping away a tear rolling down your face with the pad of his thumb.

“It’s stupid.”

“It’s not stupid,” The redhead spoke, “Your feelings aren’t stupid.”

“They are when I’m upset about something stupid, I know the both of you love me but I don’t know,” You trailed off as you realized what you’d told them without meaning to.

Both of their hearts squeezed inside of their chests at your sudden confession, when they’d included you in their relationship they were afraid that it would come to this, that they wouldn’t give you the attention you deserved and you’d end up feeling left out. Neither of them could believe that they had let it come to this.

“Oh (Y/N/N),” Lily murmured, pulling you into her chest so that you could rest your head on her breast, “We are so so sorry, we love you more than anything, you’re our baby.”

“She’s right,” James agreed, “Our beautiful angel, so perfect for us. S’our fault you don’t see that.”

“It’s not your fault,” You argued, your voice wobbling.

“M’just being dumb is all.”

“Stop that,” Lily’s voice was harder than usual, “Do you think we’d let someone else call you dumb.”

“No,” You murmured quietly, catching James’ hazel eyes and he gave you a small smile before taking your hand in his, giving it a gentle squeeze.

“Exactly, that means you’re not allowed to call yourself dumb either.”

“Flower’s right, if anyone’s dumb here it’s the two of us,” James smiled, pulling himself closer to you so that his head rested on your chest.

“Hey,” You giggled, wiping the tears out of your eyes, “If I’m not allowed to call myself dumb neither are you.”

James smiled, pressing his lips to the back of your hand, “Got me there Poppet.”

Following @efkgirldetective's excellent idea, here's a list of fic-related things I hope to accomplish in 2022.

Finish my WIP. (Il)licit affairs will be probably finished this year; I hope to give the closure that Exit Song deserves as I planned originally; The Song Remains the Same isn't finished yet only because I always forget some people read it (ops). Hope will get another chapter and then I'll just mark it as complete because it's unfair to keep people waiting for a chapter I don't know if I'll write.

Finish fics before posting them. Exit Song showed me I can't be trusted with posting a WIP before having written well ahead. It's working for (Il)licit affairs and worked surprisingly good for Springs, so there you go. Finish before publishing any multi-chap fic.

Get more feedback. I keep thinking that my writing has been getting lonely this year, but also I'm not asking anyone for company, so my fault. So, please tell me if you are comfortable with me PMing you from a weird time zone with ideas and asking for critics.

Get more involved. The anxiety in me forbids me from feeling comfortable reaching out to people, but here's hoping that I can get to know more people besides reblogging their amazing content.

Ignore stats. Some people can deal fine with them; I'm not one of them. I get worried and anxious and this is not why I joined this hobby. So my goal to 2022 is just forget they exist in general.

Write less. So I can write better (in theory). I know, practice makes writing better, but I felt that despite the vast number of words I published this year, I didn't get better in terms of... well, almost everything. So I want to write less so anything I do write can be polished and carved until is something I'm proud of.

Writing projects: there are two long Jily oneshots I wanna try (started both already, but it's in very early phase). Find a Hinny story so I can venture into the Hinny fandom (uncharted lands for me, really).

So I hope you don’t mind but I just needed to get this off my chest and wanted to share with somebody would I know would understand. I was reading a fanfic that was supposed to be Prongsfoot (or so the tags would have you believe) and it was loads of Jily until Lily cheated on James with SIRIUS! Repeatedly! This made me so irrationally upset. Sirius would never betray James that way! Ever! Sirius is heavily defined by his loyalty and his love for James. It felt like such a betrayal to his character I was aghast. I don’t get how people could ever see either of our boys hurting each other like that. 

oh god no, i would never mind. feel free to rant away in my inbox anytime. and if it’s about something very specific or u wanna take names, then u can always hit up the dms.

and man, i get where that’s coming from. obligatory disclaimer that i’ll never police what others write in their own space but i also reserve the right to bitch about it in my own. that’s very, very not j&s tbh. like,,,i can’t see either of them doing anything that would knowingly cause harm to the other. i read this lily/sirius fic once where he gets with her despite knowing how much james liked her and that it would really hurt him and it made things super awkward b/w j&s for a while and god,,,,the way it hurt my heart lol

i think what i’d be more mad about re that fic was (from what i’m getting here) how misleading the prongsfoot tag was. like man, if i went into it expecting james & sirius to get together and i came across this??? i’d be fuming mad. i saw something once tagged prongsfoot that was basically just jily and wolfstar and j&s fooling around w each other (and lowkey hurting their friendship) and the urge i felt to send a strongly worded ask was so strong i had to literally close the app and walk away lmao

i ranted about it for a long time after tho 💀💀 so yeah, all that to say i totally get where ur coming from, anon!! i would recommend reading tons of ur fav j/s fics whenever something like this happens to get rid of the icky feeling, works like a charm everytime.

may i humbly suggest dani’s wonderful, amazing, a+ getting together prongsfoot fic that she low-key wrote for me that i’m actually so fkn emotional over bc it’s the best gift ever

march: do you listen to music whilst writing?

For one-shots, yes, because it really helps me get into the mood of what I wanna write and allows me to picture the setting. And this helps more with shorter fics because those are all about conveying feelings through just a couple thousand words.

With longer, plot-heavy multi chapters, no, because I get distracted by the music and it takes away my concentration. It's much more important to stay consistent and get the details right in longer fics, and it's easy to lose track of that (at least for me) when my mind isn't paying attention.

july: what’s the hottest fic you have written and/or posted if you write smut at all?

It's Set Ablaze, and I don't think anyone will tell you otherwise. I really let loose there.

september: share a comment or review which still warms your heart?

Okay, with the influx of wonderful comments that this fandom has been seeing lately, I don't think I'll be able to do this question justice. I just went to my AO3 and FFN inboxes, and genuinely could not choose.
