The best characters are worshipped by half the fandom, with intricate, in character fanons that explore their depth, and countless fics written all about them, while simultaneously being hated by the other half of the fandom like they regularly kick puppies and you are the devil for liking them 💜

Heyy have you ever made a drama rec list? I noticed you share a lot of dramas, id love to hear about your faves and why :) hopefully with eng subs haha
Hello! I've never made a drama rec list before! :o I don’t know how good I will be at explaining why they’re my favorite ( .__.;; ), but I’ll try putting one together!! ♥♥ (Basically anything recent you’ve seen on the dash is bc I’m following cast of The Untamed around (for cdramas) XD and also going back to watch dramas I wanted to but never got around to (for kdramas))
I’ve only watched a few cdramas when I was little (My Fair Princess, mainly, but there were some others I can’t remember the names of), but as I grew older I fell into the jdramas (Gokusen & Trick --> basically Namaka Yukie) hole, and then into the world of kpop/kdramas. Every now and then I would bounce back in, like with Fahrenheit and the X-Family/K.O. Series but I always went back around to kdrama and kpop, bc I always thought that cdramas were SO LONG. :p AND THEN THE UNTAMED CAME ALONG. And then I realized actually how EASY it was to watch cdramas. Hop onto YT and you’re pretty much set. You don’t have to wait around for months for them to finish bc they upload so many episodes a week!!! (Except it kinda sucks if you’re waiting for subs, bc.. cdramas... don’t... often... get... subbed?? Are there too many? [Good thing I don’t really need them. (・θ・)]) Right now, I’m pretty new to the world of cdrama and only really follow The Untamed cast and some others (Zhang Mingen, Luo Zheng (my Idol Producer son)) around, so this is gonna be short. XD
Favorite C-DRAMAS:
You know what I love? I love magic and fantasy and pretties. :3
Three Lives, Three Worlds: [Eternal Love (Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms) | Eternal Love of Dream (The Pillow Book) | Love and Destiny]
Ok, this is three different dramas, but they’re set in the same universe (kina? L&D is a little weird.), so I can lump them together, right? XD Three Lives, Three Worlds will infuriate you, but in a good (?) way. By nature of the format of this series, you may find the set-up is the same each time (immortal falls in love-immortal descends to the human realm for mortal trials-immortal reascends, badass as all hell (not necessarily in that order)), but each story is still new and captivating and heartbreaking. There’s always going to be THAT ONE CHARACTER (`•̀益•́´) but if I don’t hate them, they didn’t do their job right, right? I liked Pillow Book the best, but maybe that’s because it’s the one I started with? Pretty sure all are available on yt, but the subs may be spotty. I think PB is the only one with complete subs (thanks, Tencent). Eternal Love (TMOPB) is on Netflix (at least on mine) and I think VIKI also has both Eternal Love (TMOPB) and Love and Destiny.
The Love by Hypnotic
THIS!!! I found this drama really cute. It’s a mix of serious and moments of humor. The prince has some memory... problems (TRAUMA), and it just so happens he is in an arranged marriage to a princess, who can use hypnosis to help him regain his memories. They don’t exactly see eye-to-eye at first, but they never do, do they? (¬‿¬) [It’s on YT] Also!! The OST is good!
Other dramas I enjoyed: [Ohh, hey, They’re all on yt. Fully subbed. Lemme know if you want links to a playlist or sth.]
- Joy of Life - Guardian ("Imagine waiting 10,000 years, finally finding the person you loved again only to die and have to wait even more”) - History 3: Trapped (a cop and a gangster fall in love; taiwanese series)
FAVORITE KOREAN DRAMAS: (sh*t, there’s too many)
My Country: The New Age (this one I watched recently, so let’s put it here ;__;)
I’ll be honest. I was watching for Woo Dohwan. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But I really did enjoy this. These two idiots are each trying to make a better world for the other, but they sure have a strange way of showing they care (aka a sword to the gut).
School 2013
Lee Jongsuk. Kim Woobin. That’s it. Ok, ok. They aren’t the WHOLE focus of the show, there are other kids in the class who need help as well, but the bromance of this drama continues to haunt me to this day. There are the common themes you see in any school drama..(bullying, cheating, STRESS, inability to handle the stress (tw: suicidal intention)) those were some darker times, but in the end it’s all about friendship.
Hello Monster/I Remember You
Crime Show. Seo Inguk. Jang Nara. Lee Chunhee. Choi Wonyoung. Park Bogum. Do Kyungsoo. A criminal profiler and a detective build their relationship based on a series of mysterious serial-murders. But the culprit’s calling cards tell a story of something more...
Signal
Another crime show. But why do I enjoy torturing myself with the concept of time travel? The acting is sometime’s a bit over at the start, but the STORY! !!! I watched this drama three times. Mysterious radio transmissions between a cold-case profiler in 2015 and a detective in 1989 unravel the secrets behind a series of related murders.
Other dramas I enjoyed:
- Legend of the Blue Sea (mermaid!!! ) - Guardian: The Great and Lonely God - Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo - Master’s Sun - Reply 1997 (slice of life; the only one I’ve watched. the only one where the /goat sound/ makes sense because THEY WERE BORN IN THE YEAR OF THE GOAT)
Ok. I’m gonna.. end it here. Enjoy! (〃´∀`)
#replies#would you believe...#i have a whole spreadsheet of every kdrama i've ever watched#for the past 15 years...#for cdramas i have a list bc i barely started on them last year#edit: shoot. this is hard XD#love me a good bromance

WHERE IS LAVI
Sadly all my magic rituals to try and scry directly inside Hoshino’s mind haven’t worked just yet, so I can’t answer this question - also, looks like DGM isn’t in the line-up for Jump SQ Crown this month either :( so we won’t know for at least another four months still - since Lavi’s my absolute most fave and thinking about the situation he’s in makes me feel literal pain and no actual solution to it seems to want to come any time soon, I try to think about it as little as I can. After six years of waiting for him denial has become my best friend, anon 👍
Anon said:DID YOU SEE MY SON BEING CARRIED AROUND I LOVE HIM SO MUCHH
I’m gonna assume you’re talking about Shinsou! He was adorable, but lbr the habit Horikoshi has of having him and Tetsu always appear together kind of takes all my possible hype away from Shinsou to direct it on the shark child. I hope Horikoshi will stop doing that, actually
Anon said:Lmao, in the coffee shop au I noticed you drew Kaminari with his hair shorter in the back - did you do that so you could avoid drawing a mullet? I cry
Actually!!! I hadn’t thought about that! But there had to be a reason why he looked better like that JK I love Kaminari’s hair and haircut, he’s the only child I’m gonna accept having a sort-of-mullet and still looking fine as hell - it’s because his hair looks so soft? And silky? I kinda wanna braid it I should draw him with his hair braided
Anon said:You know, after last chapter, seeing Kirishima reassure Midoriya and telling him not to talk negatively about himself takes a whole new meaning. This boy, he really cares so much about other people than himself
I wouldn’t say he cares more for others than himself, but he definitely does have different standards for others compared to those he uses on himself - then again, isn’t that just how people with low self-esteem always act? BUT!!! I have all the good reasons to think that Bakugou’s words have significantly lessened Kirishima’s inferiority complex about his quirk (because I’m locating that chat before the license exam and when you think about it since around then Kiri has been acting more confidently !!!) so I don’t think you should worry too much anymore! Kirishima has Bakugou and Bakugou has Kirishima and they keep each other good and positive and that’s beautiful and I’m alive
Anon said:What is your full name, if you don’t mind me asking??
Why anon, isn’t Fran enough for you? *wiggle eyebrows* kidding, I’m assuming all my Italian friends have guessed already since it’s a pretty common name so it’s cool, you can know, my full name is Francesca. Though I’d really prefer it if you’d keep on calling me just Fran 👍
Anon said: Why are you so perfect
Hah I’m really, really, really not anon
Anon said: Honestly their hairs are so amazing in the last one and i absolutely love the way you never do the prompts the way they are expected and idk if you do it on purpose but its just amazing
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much????? And I wouldn’t say I do it on purpose, I just draw the first thing with a beginning and an ending I can manage to think about (fun fact, sometimes I deem the first thing too ridiculous or not good enough and I try to think about something else but by then the idea is there and I won’t be able to draw anything else r i p)
Anon said:Geez when Kiri called Baku manly and cool I was just like “end me” how did I not realize how precious he is in s1? He’s so frikkin adorable!
He doesn’t really do much in s1!!! But he is adorable isn’t he??? He’s the sun of my life I love him so much bless his gay heart
Anon said:I LOVE HOW YOU DRAW KUROO
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anon said:I hope your happy you jelly bean! I started to watch boku no hero to understand the poly ship you ship. Now I can escape this hell cause I know I’ll read the manga next!
I actually am really damn happy!!!!! I hope you’ll enjoy it all till the very end if you do catch up, anon!! Come back and tell me who your fave is, once you’re done °O°
Anon said:Hinata forgot to spike the ball
HE DID I can’t believe that small adorable disaster of a boy how is he even still a regular oh my g O D I love him so much I can’t believe him what a good (mostly tho, he jumped like Hoshiumi holy FUCK I can’t wait to see that one work for him !!!)
Anon said:there’s a terushima week coming up soon?? might we see a cute bokuroteru maybe? :O
Since I’m literally just finding out about this, like, right now and the week starts in about three days or something I can’t really promise I will participate in it, anon ;;;—;;; I don’t have the time to plan for it at this point and in the same period there’s the bakushima week too (which I… still haven’t drawn anything for r I P) and !!!!! It’s just too little time BUT next month it’s polyship may!!! One prompt per day for the whole month and it’s all about polyships, I plan on drawing small doodles for all of them, or at least try, and bokuroteru will DEFINITELY be between the ot3s I’ll draw for!!!! I hope that’s good enough for you :( I’m actually so damn sad I just found out about this ;;;-;;;
Anon said:i think i’m in love with your art (especially youre bakushimanari and your bokuro to be honest !) because everytime i go on your blog i stay here for hours and hope it never end ! well, thank you for sharing all those cute art with us !! ♥
AHHHH THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! I’m glad I can make you enjoy my lil blog that much??? This actually made me so happy oh my god (////▽////)
Anon said:How on Earth does Bakugou fit his giant bracers in the tiny briefcase thingy the school gives them to keep their costumes in, do you suppose?
The cases are bigger on the inside *doctor who theme playing in the distance* either that or he’s actually Mary Poppins, which wouldn’t be all that bad would it I’m laughing lmao
(when you think about it really huge costume pieces fit in a few other kids’ cases too - take Iida and Aoyama, or Kirishima’s gears, or Ochako’s arm pieces - so I’m just assuming the support kids are really really crafty… and Bakugou’s gauntlets can probs disassemble, he must take forever to gear up)
The real question here is why Hagakure needs a case at all
Anon said:now that i started reading bnha i appreciate your art alot more. I already loved your art even though i didnt know who all the character were who werent from voltron or hq
Ahhhhh thank you so much!!!!! I really really hope you’ll like the manga at least enough to keep reading, anon!!!
Anon said:I know it’s so rude but, is it somethin’ about Kuroo/Bakugou that makes Bokuto/Kirishima get hot to trot?
ANON I’m sorry but I can’t let myself answer even just vaguely nsfw asks - I just, even though I might have headcanons for these there is a certain line with nsfw I’m really not comfortable crossing and once you start answering this kind of questions it’s hard drawing that line and making it so that you’ll always be sure it will be respected and I just… really don’t want to get to the point where one day I’ll open my inbox and find something I’ll feel really uncomfortable with? Does that make sense??? aaaahhhhhhhh!!!!! I hope you’ll understand ;;-;;
Anon said:Bokutitties. what even. Reminds me of the Shimada brothers (do you play Overwatch??) and their left nipple that is always exposed
I don’t, but most of my dash does so I get what you’re talking about lmao I can 100% assure you it was an accidental coincidence, anon haha
Anon said:okey okey do i was thinking about your art of bakugou being cold and shit and i. i came up with this idea like, what if baku is that sort of person who hates socks? so hell go complain to kirishima and or kaminari about being cold and theyll just go; …..put on some goddamn socks
!!!!!!!!!!!! Anon you wanna know the best thing about this? If you keep an eye out for all the times you can see Bakugou’s ankles in the manga it seems like he actually never wears socks I’ll cry forever your headcanon might as well be canon what a blessed moment
Anon said:I see and accept your hero course sleeplessness and would like to raise it to the teachers giving puppet/shadow shows.
….you can’t make a shadow show without Tokoyami getting involved so I’ll assume he’ll find a way to wiggle into it too, and he’d bring Shouji with because his quirk could help - I bet my head you can’t have Aizawa participate even offering to pay him, and also that it probably started from Mic because he’s extra like that
most enthusiastic participants would be Snipe and Toshi, Cementoss would have no problems with it either and his quirk is handy for cool effects, Midnight is kind of live and let live about the whole deal but doesn’t mind stopping by to look at them making fools of themselves now and again - most of the students are like ???? why tho the first time because they aren’t kids anymore and there’s no reason for this, Iida though doesn’t even question sitting through the whole thing because it’s their teachers and it’s just the right thing to do, Izuku does the same but just because All Might, Ochako stays because Izuku and Iida stay, same for Todoroki, and if Ochako stays so does Tsuyu - Kirishima and Mina are the only actually enthusiastic ones out of Baku’s group but they got a way to bring all of the squad together for it anyway, Baku included, they’re noisy and pushy just enough for that… actually when I think about it in the end everyone would stay at least the first time for one reason or another , and then the show starts, and it’s with quirks and really out of scale on the special effects with microphones and bgm and shifting stages and so on and this was supposed to help the students with sleeplessness but at this point it’s just the teachers having fun and together with them the kids as well no one goes to sleep any time soon when they put together a show lbr

The Gang Turns Black Thoughts
I’m a black woman of color, so I was kinda nervous when I first learned about the episode. But after seeing it, I gotta say that I think they did a pretty good job. I could tell that were trying to be intelligent and respectful with how they handled the subject matter and I really appreciate the effort.
I’m always iffy when it comes to musicals, but I really enjoyed the songs. It was just the right amount of singing and dancing and I could understand the words. LOL.
The episode, as a whole, was entertaining and felt refreshing. I’m very excited about the rest of the season. :D
Anyways, there were some parts that I liked and some parts that I had “mixed feelings” about. I’ll list the “liked” parts first and then the “mixed feelings” parts.
SPOILERS below:
Things I Really Liked:
“Old Black Man” (OBM for short) sleeping between Frank and Dennis all of them bundled up in a blanket. Awww.
Dennis checking to see if OBM was asleep before launching into the “all lives matter” stuff had me weak because it’s SO REAL. XD
“I don’t know why it took them so long to realize their lives matter.” JESUS CHRIST, DENNIS.
Sassy finger-wagging Charlie! :D
When Dennis first starts singing “Where are the rules” and gets even sassier than Charlie. Dennis has never been this cute before. XD
Dennis: “Wait, what is this?” Charlie: “It’s a wallet.” Charlie is precious.
Mac: “Oh, right, that’s the lesson we have to learn: that black people will ruin your credit!” Mac’s habit of firing off stupid thoughts never gets old.
Frank: “I’m gonna say the n-word!” I LOVE the running theme of Frank coming up with an incredibly stupid and simple goal that he tries his absolute best to accomplish.
Z popping up out of nowhere with “What’s up, my niggas.” I loved seeing Z again. He’s one of my fave side characters.
Loved that Z’s nickname for OBM is the same as the Gang’s but the difference is that, for Z, it’s literally just a description whereas with the Gang the fact that he’s black is the main thing they notice about him.
Dee: “How much does this guy sleep? Is he a cat?” XD
Loved the reveal that OBM’s actual name is Carl.
The entire scene with Charlie and the social worker. Charlie playing with the train, describing his life, trying to empathize with black!Charlie, and realizing that he made a horrible stereotypical assumption made me cringe/laugh/aww all at once. XD
Dennis: “Or maybe I’m a French chef.” Mac: “And that’s why you’re so fat!” MAC, TURN IT DOWN A NOTCH.
Mac and Dennis: “We’re Church Blacks!” Such a stupid line. I want this on a shirt.
Frank’s dancing in the alley was SO adorable. :D
“But if you look inside our souls, sir, you’ll see that we’re white men.” GODDAMN IT, MAC. XD
Dee: “That’s a nice white man!”
Dennis: “You know why he’s calling the cops? He’s calling the cops ‘cause he thinks we’re insane people. We’re singing and talking about switching bodies and shit.” I love when Dennis gets all self-aware and meta.
Charlie: “We have a lot in common. But too much of it is fear.” SUCH A GOOD LINE.
The fact that the Gang has movie nights with Carl/OBM. My standards for the Gang are so very low that such feats bring tears to my eyes.
Scott Bakula. I don’t know that much about him but he played a great woobie version of himself.
The black actors who played the black versions of the Gang. They had limited screen time (especially black!Dee), but they all did good. I really liked Black!Mac and black!Charlie because they were extremely adorable and I’m a simpleton.
I think it was a brilliant idea for the episode to be from Carl’s/OBM’s point of view. We learned so much about him. We learned that he has a wife (?) named Ruth that’s in a nursing home and that they have at least two adult children. (I wonder if black!Dennis, Mac, and Charlie are friends or family members?) Does he want to reunite with them? I love that he has learned SO much about the Gang and yet he still sees the good in them and still has hope for these horrible people. When he asked the Gang “Does this mean you didn’t learn your lesson?” it just about broke my heart and I wanted to hug him. ;_; I hope we get to see more of him (and maybe even his family) in the show.
Things I Had Mixed Feelings About:
Black!Charlie getting shot. I knew it was going to happen because of the spoiler pics, but it was still a shock to see it. It might be the darkest moment on the show. I do get why they did it, though. I do know that the scene would have had less of an impact if we just saw Charlie get shot. And one of my favorite things about the scene is that it happened in Carl’s/OBM’s dream (and, as I mentioned above, this child might be related to him or someone he knows). The fact that a black man was imaging this happening added an extra and very powerful layer to it. But, yeah, seeing that was just a little too much for me.
The ending. Like, I get the Scott Bakula/Quantum Leap tie-in and I know RCG like to do weird shit occasionally (FLYING SPACE TURTLE!), but it felt a little bit too weird for me. Like, I started overanalyzing everything and I was like is Carl/OBM just really into Scott Bakula/Quantum Leap or is he actually Scott Bakula (which would completely erase his character and the social commentary of this episode)? And then I started having flashbacks to “The Gang Hits the Slopes” and the weird meta announcer guy. And my brain broke. I don’t watch IASIP for my brain to break. LOL.

Sensor Sweep: Tolkien’s Letters, Taghri’s Prize, Kardios of Atlantis
Horror Fiction (Old Style Tales): When H. G. Wells first published “The Invisible Man” in 1897, the title alone ensured its success. Invisibility fascinates, attracts, and terrifies. It’s allure rests in the ability to escape notice (and with it criticism, self-consciousness, and the power of the other’s gaze), to be freed from social pressures (to be pretty, dress well, be polite, stay put, etc.), and to have the freedom to enter any unlocked space without challenge.
Fiction (DMR Books): In the late ‘70s legendary pulp fictioneer Manly Wade Wellman created a fantasy hero named Kardios, who was the last survivor of Atlantis. The five tales of Kardios Wellman penned appeared in anthologies such as Swords Against Darkness and Heroic Fantasy, which are long out of print. For decades sword and sorcery fans have clamored for all five stories to be reprinted in a single collection, but their cries fell on deaf ears.
D&D Fiction (Brain Leakage): Before seeing this tweet, I actually had no idea the D&D novel line had been discontinued. A little googling reveals it was killed off quietly, with Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro making no official announcements and enforcing NDAs against the writers involved. Anyway, Black has a good point in regards the potential benefit of a program like this, at least from the WotC/Hasbro perspective.
Talbot Mundy (DMR Books): The second of Talbot Mundy’s Roman novels, Queen Cleopatra was published by Bobbs-Merrill in 1929. Set in the years between the summer of 48 B.C. (the battle of Pharsalus) and the spring of 44 B.C. (the Ides of March), this story tells of the tumultuous end of the Roman Republic and the bloody beginning of what would become the Roman Empire from the viewpoint of one of the most famous and alluring women in all of history: Cleopatra.
Robert Heinlein (Tip the Wink): Have Space Suit–Will Travel by Robert A. Heinlein. Scribner’s & Sons, 1958. Juvenile novel # 12 in the series. Published in both hardcover and paperback that year by Scribner’s as part of the Heinlein juvenile series.
Alternative History (According to Quinn): It diverges from real history in 1632 when Matsakura Shigemasa, a strongly anti-Christian daimyo (Japanese feudal lord) escapes an assassination attempt that might have been ordered by the Shogun due to his misrule and brutalization of the peasantry. Per the Wikipedia article he was planning to launch a maritime invasion of the Spanish colony of Luzon in the Philippines!. Not being dead this time around, he’s able to launch the campaign with the ass
Fiction (Scifi Movie Page): Levon’s Time, the 6th book in the Levon Cade series from comic book legend Chuck Dixon will be available September 4th but you can preorder yours today!
The latest release in the relentless Levon Cade series is full of unforgiving action. Following the events of Levon’s War, Levon Cade is arrested in Turkey and imprisoned in a hellhole on the Black Sea coast. In order to come home he must strike a deal with the United States government, and that comes at a price.
Fiction (Mystery File): AUGUST DERLETH “The China Cottage.” Solar Pons. Short story. First published in Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine, March 1965. First collected in The The Casebook of Solar Pons (Mycroft & Moran, hardcover, 1965), as “The Adventure of the China Cottage.” Reprinted in Alfred Hitchcock’s Games Killers Play (Dell, paperback, 1968.
I wonder if this story marked the first appearance of Solar Pons’ brother Bancroft, a man of some size and weight and who worked, not surprisingly, for the British Foreign Office. Dead in a locked room is an eccentric breaker of codes and ciphers, found slumped over the latest set of papers he was working on.
RPG (Skulls in the Stars): Dungeon Masters Adventure Log (1980). In my old school post, I mentioned the Dungeon Masters Adventure Log, which intrigued me. Well, soon afterwards, I got myself a copy, and it is charming! A DM could use Adventure Log pages to keep track of characters and monsters, as the sample page shows!
Robert E. Howard (Don Herron): When the Two-Gun Raconteur website went down, it dragged a ton of links to Brian Leno posts with it — Brian did most of his blogging there before he wandered over here and took over the landscape with his maniacal Autograph Hound obsessions.
One of his major postings was a ten part dive into the life and times of Texas boxer Kid Dula, one of Robert E. Howard’s faves. Anything about the Kid on this site you can access via the tag below — I’m sure my posts contain dead links to that mini-magnum opus.
RPG (The Mixed GM): The problem is when D&D gets involved. I have seen too much “how powerful is X in canon” or “this random book I found says Y, that’s canon right?” lately. These statements appear to be directly related to the game we are playing, as if something outside the GM determines “canon” in the game world. Let me be clear.
Fiction (Davy Crockett’s Almanac): Zorro is 100. He made his debut in the first installment of Johnston McCulley’s “The Curse of Capistrano” in the August 9, 1919 issue of All-Story Weekly. That serial, good as it is, might have been forgotten but for Douglas Fairbanks, who bought the film rights and turned it into the huge hit “The Mark of Zorro” in 1920. That film is still plenty of fun, as you can see for yourself at the end of this post. But McCulley’s original story is even better.
RPG (Old Skulling): This is a sword and sorcery RPG, inspired by pulp literature and comics. Although this falls into the fantasy games category, there are a few key differences that might be worth mentioning between generic or high fantasy and sword and sorcery. This section will briefly outline some of the core themes of sword and sorcery stories and how to apply them to the game.
RPG (Grey Hawk Grognard): Long-time readers of this blog, and even longer-time Greyhawk fans, will recall that originally the western portion of the continent known as Oerik was completely unknown to us. All we had was a partial map included in the original 1980 Greyhawk folio. As you can see, the Flanaess proper is in the northeastern corner of the continent, and the rest is left completely blank save for coasts and mountain ranges.
Gamergate (Brian Niemeier): The man in the picture above was accused of sexual assault by conniving Jezebel Zoe Quinn. Are the allegations true? We’ll never know because he’s dead now. Game developer Alec Holowka killed himself on Saturday morning. His suicide followed his public drumming out of the industry as a result of Quinn’s accusations. Quinn, it should be noted, is the predatory tart whose escapades may have incited #GamerGate. Since then she’s ridden the professional victimhood gravy train, raising $80,000 for a Kickstarter .
Fiction (Trolls Myth): This novel (link is an Amazon Affiliate link) is of the genre of not-so-young-man-does-good stories that were fairly common in days of yore. Writers like H. Beam Piper and David Drake used to give us lots of these. They deviate from the young-man-does-good stories of authors like Alan Dean Foster in that our protagonist has at least a decade of adult life under his belt.
Tolkien (Imaginative Conservative): The re-publication of Tolkien’s collected (though by no means comprehensive) letters should help place the English author as one of the great Christian Humanists of the twentieth century, in league with his closest friend C.S. Lewis, his sometime rival, T.S. Eliot, and other greats such as Christopher Dawson, Romano Guardini and fellow traveler Eric Voegelin. Contrary to Rissek’s assertions, it was Tolkien’s desire, through sanctified and created myth, to attack the “annihilating traumas” not just of the twentieth century, but of modernity at large.
