#I need to start saying the 118 genders

I'm late to the party I know, but I need to learn how to make gifs first. I actually find the Bucktommy dinner scene a bit awkward, but not because they "lack chemistry" or the "flirting is problematic". It's not supposed to be just a cute bonus scene, it's engineered to stuff as much information as possible into mere 55 seconds. Here is my read on it:

The good old always at the hospital joke, probably just Tommy trying to lighten the mood after such a hectic day for the 118, but mainly a set up for the next part.

Buck does not see the humor in it, he seems upset.

Tommy has apparently gotten to know Buck enough at the stage to immediately clock it, and under all the dark humor and sarcasm, he does actually care about Buck's feelings.

The scene of Buck and Eddie in the hospital room with Bobby ends up on the cutting room floor, we've only got that one shot of teary eyed Buck when he breaks the news to Eddie at his house, so this is the first time in the episode Buck gets to express his fear of losing Bobby, his father figure.

And here we are, controversial moment number 1. There isn't much context attached to this line, so viewers interpret it differently. I'm in the minority camp that thinks Tommy is being serious here, Lou's delivery makes it seem like Tommy says this out of concern. I believe it's a call back to this line from the medal ceremony:

Here Buck is talking about Phillip the same way Tommy and Chimney (possibly Hen too) talk about Gerrard: like he's dead. Tommy is probably wondering if Phillip is another Gerrard situation, and he invites Buck to talk about it if he wishes to.

Buck gives a humorous but one word answer, so Tommy gets that he doesn't want to get too deep into it.

From this line on, it's a set up for the Gerrard reign of terror in S8. Tommy reiterates the jealousy he mentioned in 7x04, that he wants to become a part of the 118 family, which he only had a little taste of before he left to become a pilot.

Tommy backstory crumb. Buck and Phillip at least see each other at family functions, Tommy doesn't have a relationship with his dad at all. Judging by the medal ceremony, he doesn't seem to have any family left.

It confirms Gerrard as the anti-Christ anti-Bobby. Buck becomes the person he is because of Bobby, while Tommy behaved the way he did in the 3 begin episodes because of Gerrard. It acknowledges Tommy's toxic ways back in the days, but as we can see by the time Bobby became captain of the 118, Tommy was already on friendly terms with Chimney and Hen, we might have a chance to see the transformation in between next season. I've heard that season 7 is supposed to be a soft relaunch of the entire series, so maybe Gerrard is a good plot device to make new viewers understand the positive influence Bobby has on the firefam.

Classic deadpan humor from Tommy, Buck gets the message that he wants to keep the conversation lighthearted.

Now Buck has the power to decide which direction he's leading the conversation into, and he gives us controversial moment number 2, he brings up daddy issues and makes it horny. Look at his smirky face, he's definitely not trying to have a serious chat about father complex. He's the one who starts flirting, not Tommy, and it shows us unlike the nervous fumbling at the beginning of their relationship, Buck is now comfortable enough to initiate flirting.

Tommy can't say no to that face, so he flirts back, but it can also be interpreted as him being in denial of his obvious daddy issues. More conflict and angst for S8?

More flirting. Boy's got rizz towards all genders. He basically admits he might have "daddy issues" in a sexual connotation.

Now comes THE controversial moment of the scene, if not the episode. I've seen people online bashing Tommy for "making it sexual" (Buck did), "interrupting a meaningful conversation to satisfy his daddy kink" (no one is actually talking about any kink), or even "exploiting Buck's trauma to put him in an inferior role in a dom/sub relationship" (What? That's not what d/s is about).

I raise you the point that the word "daddy" is no longer some kind of kink exclusive lingo. This word has entered the popular zeitgeist the last couple years, and now it basically just means a sexy older man. I bet the daddy kink thing doesn't even cross the mind of most of the GA, they just take it as Tommy hoping Buck find this older man sexy. I think we might have collectively read too many smutty fanfics, that's why we all immediately jumped to the very extreme of the kinkiness spectrum when it comes to this scene.

Conclusion, the dialog in this scene may not sound natural, but that's not the point. This scene is in fact, an infodump. Kudos to the actors for making it cute.

"Noo not now!" Buck whined at the ringing alarm bell. The food on his spoon almost close enough to touch his lips. You giggled, grabbing a piece of bread and putting it in your mouth before running off to get your uniform on. Eddie waited for you at the truck, your helmet already in his hands, leaning against the red door so you can get in first. "Hello handsome." You teased as you climbed in. His cheeks flushed, playfully rolling his eyes as he gave you the helmet with your name on. The door closed behind him and at a fast speed the truck started moving.

"What are we looking at, cap?" Eddie asked throught the combs. His eyes landed on you. You were sitting in front of him, your seatbelt thigtend against your chest, your hand resting on the mental part so that when you arrived you would be quick to unbuckle it.

"Car accident." Bobby replied, looking at his team throught the rearview mirror. "It's not gonna be pretty."

You took a deep breath as you caught Buck nervously shuffling in his seat. Calls like these almost always meant a heavy outcome.

Eddie brushed his foot against yours, a wordless gesture of asking if your were okay. You nodded, smiling at his concern. "I can't wait when we are finished with this shift." You admitted. "I wanna finally eat."

"Oh, same here y/n." Buck agreed. "I'm starving." Eddie's mouth curled up in a small smile, refusing to keep his eyes of you. He admired your succesfull attempt to make the mood a bit lighter since he knows you aren't keen on heavy silences.

Once you arrived at the scene, you patiently awaited captain's orders. Two cars where smashed into each other as the third laid further down on it's back. Four people where involved with one victim who's injuries were already fatal. The team moved quickly as you were the first to arrive at the scene.

"Eddie, Y/n?" Bobby yelled. "Go look at the car further down and give me an update."

You quickly sprinted over to the upsidedown car, gear in hand and Eddie next to you. A man, about 30, layed unconscious in his car seat. The seatbelt stopping him from completely falling to the ground. You tried your best to examine him in his current situation. But the door had blocked all your access, luckily the man had his window open. You kneeled down so you could feel for a heartbeat. "I got a pulse!" You yelled, feeling the skin under your finger move in a slow pace. "We'll need a neck brace and an IVE. Can you call for extra backup to get him out?"

Eddie nodded, rushing to the truck while updating dispatch and Bobby on the current situation.

Your brain was looking at all the different options to get the man safely out. In your head you had already sawn off the door and got the backup to help you get him back down. But in reality it would be taking a bit longer so you had to find a way to keep him alive until then.

You were deep in thought until Eddie's screams pulled you back out. You looked over at him. He was running towards you but yelling for you to get back. In a split second your brain switched and you were hearing clearly what he was saying. "The motor!" He yelled. "It's gonna explode."

You were still positioned on the ground, you tried crawling back but a hand suddenly grabbed your uniform, stopping you from moving. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry." You cried, looking at the passenger who had just woken up. His grip was ferm and before you knew it there was an explosion. Your body flew to the side. A stabbing pain in your side and a pounding headache made it unable for you to get back up.

Oh no. You though, seeing the ground underneath you turn into a puddle of blood.

"Y/n? Y/n!" Eddie cried, falling to his knees, his hands shaking. He tried whiping away the blood from your face, stroking some hair behind your ear before grabbing your cheeks in his hands. "Oh honey. Oh god."

"Eddie?" You breathed weakly, noticing the blood on his clothes. "Are you okay."

The firefighter tried to staunch the blood on your side while panicked breaths left his lips. His eyes were red and full of terror. "Eddie, I'm fine. I promise." You mumbled, not fully processing how bad it was. You weakly grabbed onto the hem of his shirt. The blood on your hands left a red stain the shape of you fingerprints. Oh. It isn't his blood that he was covered in. Your vision started to blurry, breathing started to hurt, your ears were ringing and your head was pounding so hard you were afraid your heart was gonna burst out of your body.

"Just look at me." Eddie assured. As he watched the rest of the team help him out with stopping the blood from leaving your body. You looked down at the nagging pain. A sharp piece of metal was struck right through your side. Looking at it made it worse. The pain was stronger then ever. "Hey look at me. You're alright." Eddie grabbed your hand, squeezing it as hard as he could. He was trembling over his words but you didn't care. All you could think about was him. His eyes. His beautiful eyes being filled with worry. "I'm sorry." You cried. "I'm so sorry." You sobbed, your free hand grabbed his shirt again. You where terrified, completely terrified and all you wanted to do was sink into his arms and never let go. "I'm so tired, Eddie."

"I know baby. I know. But you gotta keep looking at me. Let me see those pretty eyes." You couldn't help the hot tears streaming down your face. Your breathing became more shallow and your eyelids more heavy. It was getting harder to stay awake. You tried. You really tried. Eddie was mumbling to keep you awake but you couldn't hear anything cleary at this point. Hen secured the piece of metal that was crushed into your side. She and the team helped you on a curney while Eddie kept by your side. Your hands still locked into each other.

You felt so weak and in so much pain. You saw the sky moving above you as they rolled you to the ambulance. You vaguely heard your panicked colleges and conversations over dispatch but it was all too foggy to clearly hear what they were saying.

The sky looked pretty that night. The stars seemed to be perfect. But you were tired. And ready to go to sleep.

You were awoken by a soft buzzing sound and some distant chatter that you couldn't make out. Opening your eyes seemed harder then you rememberd. Your eyelids felt heavy. You started flickering them until you were used to the white light that the room illuminated.

Your throat felt afwul and there was still a sharp pain on your side but this time more bearable. Your eyes closed shut a few times again and here and there you drifted back into a deep slumber.

Once you slept off your anesthesia you were able to think again. You opened your eyes and tried to locate were you where. You fell a soft hand touching yours and after you carefully tilted your head, you saw your tired boyfriend sitting next to you. His hair was a mess and his head was resting on your bed. He was snorring a little and you smiled at the peaceful state he looked in. A nurse walked into the room. He greeted you but lowered his voice once he saw Eddie sleeping.

"He has been here quite a while." The nurse admitted while they checked your obs. "How are you feeling?"

You carefully nodded your head. "I'm fine. Could be better though." The nurse smiled sympathetically. Once he was done checking your vitals the doctor wandered in.

She told you they were able to successfully remove the metal and that you should be able to make a full recovery. "You did lost a lot of blood and suffered some head trauma so you'll have to take it very easy, y/n." The doctor warned. "Lot's of rest and taking it very easy. I'll let a chiropractor come and visit you once you're feeling better so they can discuss further treatment with you. For now I'll give you something more for the pain and some ice for your throat. You're very lucky, y/n. This could have taken a very different turn." She said before leaving the room to let you rest.

You took a deep breath. Your hand softly combed through the messy brown hair of the Diaz sleeping next to you. He stirred in his sleep, muttering your name a few times before realizing what was happening.

His head abruptly perked up. "You're awake." He whispered, almost not believing his eyes. He immediately sat up straight, his right hand holding yours.

"How are you feeling?" He asked.

"I'm alive." You smiled. "But I'm still starving."

Eddie let out a soft laugh, he tried his best to hide the tears that were forming in his eyes.

"You scared me y/n." He admitted. "You really did."

"I know."

Eddie leaned forward, pressing a soft kiss to your temple. He brushed some hair away, his fingers following the soft skin of your cheeck. "You're going to be okay." You were afraid and in pain but seeing him here made it for some reason go all away a little. "And once we're home I'm gonna cook you the best meal you ever had." He laughed, trying to see you crack a smile in which he succeeded.

"I'm straight"

Yeah, sure you are dude.

Jokes aside, I know exactly what logic both Eddie had in this scene, and also why the writers chose to include this.

Eddie says it because he truly believes that he is straight. He grew up in a family that shoved traditional gender roles down his throat. He grew up in a society that would not have accepted him. Going with the rough estimation Eddie did for his last confession, which was 23 years ago, that would have been 2001. That man was growing up in the 90s through the 2010s. In Texas. He was taught that being gay was wrong.

And what do queer people do when they are taught that who they are is wrong? Hide and delude themselves that it isn't true.

Eddie believes he is straight. He believes that everything he's felt has been normal for a straight man to feel. He believes that this performance that he does is what everyone goes through. He believes that this guilt he holds is what he deserves for being different, even though he doesn't know what being different means right now. He believes he is straight because there was no other option for him.

Now to why it was written in that he says his sexuality.

It was written to establish that it is what Eddie currently believes because they are going to start undoing it.

As much as it pains me, we live in a society where straight is very much still the default. In every show, there are going to be people who are assumed straight without even saying it, just because it is the default. Just looking at this show alone, there are so many examples of it. Bobby never had to say he was straight, we just know that. Same goes for Athena, or Chimney, or Maddie.

And if we look at the most prominent queer characters from the beginning, Hen and Michael, they don't even say their sexuality unless necessary. Hen just casually drops that she has a wife, and therefore we can assume she is a lesbian. She then confirms that, I believe for the first time, in Hen begins. When it is part of her very incredible speech asking for the old 118 to see her as she is, a black lesbian woman. It was necessary in that moment. Michael only says he's gay because it's important to his storyline. After the coming out arc, I don't remember him saying the specific words, I'm gay, afterward. Because it isn't necessary anymore, because it's known about his character.

Then there's Buck, and the wording he uses to describe himself while discovering who he is. He constantly emphasizes that he was an ally, a very straight term. Even after he figures out that he likes men, he continues to use this term. Because he is still processing the fact that he isn't straight, he isn't an ally, he's part of the community. They put it in when it was necessary for Buck and the audience to work through.

Furthermore, after coming out, Buck never says how he identifies. We as the viewer can interpret him as being bisexual from the way he acts. He has been in very meaningful and real relationships with women, where he didn't show the signs of feeling like a fraud or being guilty in the relationship (for sexuality reasons at least). He doesn't have to say he's bisexual (even though I am begging for him to say it in canon just to hear it) because it isn't necessary for the audience to hear. We already know.

So why is it necessary for Eddie to say that he is straight? Because we as the audience need to hear the before and after. It's no longer going to be assumed that he is straight, because he tells us. It marks what Eddie believes and will have to work through with the audience.

His sexuality can no longer be assumed, it must be stated.

It must be stated so that the general audience knows where he is, and then can follow him as he dismantles it.

Bobby. Bobby. Robert Nash. Cap, please. I know he wants Eddie to figure this out on his own, but Bobby knows. He knows that the last time Eddie was in a serious relationship with a woman it drove him to panic attacks and he knows him well enough to voice his concern about that happening again. He knows enough to posit to Eddie that maybe he might be having “second thoughts about asking this woman to move in with [him].” Not “Marisol,” this woman. Bobby knows because he explains that commitment isn’t Eddie’s issue- he has shown his ability to commit on numerous occasions, the army, the 118, Christopher, and Shannon. He leans heavily into language with pronouns and gender, using names sparingly, and points out that Shannon was the only exception but Eddie explains that they felt pressured to marry and now we wonder if they ever would have had she not been pregnant or if they were away from the influence of the church. He says a part of him loved being married to her, but that’s not the same as saying he loved being with her outright. Liking someone, caring about someone, even enjoying sex with that person, are all valid but aren’t the same as love and Eddie clearly doesn’t explicitly state that’s something he’s felt toward these women- just the situations. Bobby doesn’t dismiss the fact that Eddie may genuinely like or care about the women he brings into his life because those feelings can be valid, but he gives Eddie space to analyze his own feelings against external pressures and societal expectations, and maybe start asking himself why he can’t commit to relationships with women of his own accord. Bobby knows, and also knows that Eddie is the kind of person to jump on the defense when people question his personal systems of logic regarding his identity and beliefs, so he lays out the neutral facts that he can and hopes Eddie will reach the best conclusion for himself because some patterns need to break.

Bobby knows Eddie’s gay, and he’s waiting for Eddie to catch up.

And then they immediately follow that up with more flirting and Buck asking him out on a date

And you can SEE when Tommy starts declining, Buck is getting his just got rejected face

Buck is an absolute awkward bisexual mess during this whole thing (at least to me but ive never flirted or been flirted to so maybe its normal)

But it gets WORSE even MORE awkward when EDDIE arrives to pick up Tommy for THEIR date

Which lets be honest prolly only Tommy really sees it as that because Eddie, the absolute lovesick simp he is, immediately gets excited and hopeful that Buck gets to join.

And yet Buck, poor insecure oblivious Buck, can barely hold onto the slightest molecule of cool he has left because his Husband is going on a date with he guy he wanted to date, and proceeds to stumble through the rest of the conversation.

Ohhhhh my god, I definitely need to uninstall tumblr for a bit I CANNOT look at the spoilers when the episode releases but I watch the show with my mom and brother and they dont watch episodes the same day they release and sometimes they wait A WEEK LATER and I Do Not have the self control to not look at spoilers

911 – A series of one-shots of Eddie Diaz as a baby, toddler, little kid, preteen and teenager in the 1990s and 2000s and early 2010s. Eddie was born in 1992.

911: Lone Star - The higher ups hire Owen to build the 126 firehouse in Austin, Texas because he is a white straight man and thinking he is a dom or switch to add diversity. He is a sub pretending he is a dom or switch to keep his job and taken seriously in the intense kind of work, along with dealing with cancer and taking care of his son after relapsing. (It is a bdsm alternative universe where dom/switch/sub is biological and in society. I enjoy this au because of the world building, it is one of the reasons I love the omegaverse. I don’t know how it is going to go all my knowledge of bdsm comes from fanfiction and erotic fiction. So, I might change it to the omegaverse with omega Owen but then Gwyn would have to be an alpha because when I write omega males and alpha female as intersex, male omega can only be impregnated and female can only impregnate.)

911 – Eddie has started taking anti-depressants after his breakdown and seeing his therapist, one of the side of effects is decreased sex drive and effect his heat cycle and his scent and omega instincts.

911 – Eddie moves to California and joins the 118 firehouse and hides his secondary gender to avoid the stigma and discrimination of being an omega, who is a single omega parent who was abandoned by his alpha which he dealt with in Texas. Buck is an omega who is opened about being an omega and hates Eddie because he thinks he is an arrogant alpha and has a little bit of a crush on him.

911 - Both Eddie and Buck pretend they are not omegas to avoid discrimination plus the trauma they experienced back home but they become best friends and work through that pain together.

911: Lone Star – Tk who is an omega after his relapses and moving leaving New York with father Owen, Tk also has to death with detoxing from the heat suppressants in the omegeverse alpha Alex forced him to take during their two year relationship.

My baby sister (she was 25) died two months and six days ago, and then I couldn't sleep, so my doctor was like "here's some hydroxyzine" and then I had a very, very strange dream where Buddie adopted a little girl named Kip (i don't know, babe), and woke up and I was like "well. I suppose it's time for my return to fanfiction." and, because I literally cannot do a single thing on my own, I started looking for friends and support & I ?? found them.

@distractionpie and I talk about the episode every Friday morning and it's literally one of the highlights of my week. They also let me get in their messages and yap (literally nonstop) about Buck and gender etc etc, and they are genuinely so brilliant and insightful. The two Buddie fics they've posted (late nights, early mornings & RA118) both did things to me that I still don't fully understand.

@dracculaura was my very first fandom friend, and I got blackout drunk at a drag show and they were very patient and kind with me. They are my emotional support raccoon, and they hold my hand through almost every fic. They were instrumental in the Paris fic, because I have never been to Paris (literally or figuratively) and I was having some logistic issues. Their Buddie fic, "to come home," about the way that Eddie and Buck allow the assumptions to just, happen, is such a sweet little companion to the moments we know and love from canon.

@playinginthunderstorms (yes, you) is my sister wife. Charlie, you regularly activate my muse (there are Things in the Works, okay, that are all her fault). Charlie gets me - I can literally say like, "purple scrunchie" and she'll be like "yeah, totally, ali, here's a fic that will destroy all the feelings you have about that." Every single one of Charlie's Buddie fics are phenomenal, and I credit her "wonderstruck, blushing" with the fact that I think about Buck being 80% leg 99% of the time. Charlie is a master of the coda, and her canon rewrites are the stuff of legends.

(these are just the three people I talk to the most - if I listed every single mootie like I want to, I'd be here all night, and I turn into a pumpkin after 10pm I'm sorryyyyy)

The people in this fandom are kind and brilliant and I stopped believing in god a long time ago, but I do believe that the universe gives us what we need when it royally fucks us over, and what I needed was a soft place to land - and some gay firefighters - and that's what I got.

In regards to your #unpopular opinion. It’s weird to me that people are using that and other little things to say that she doesn’t “know” Buck. Well, of course she doesn’t! They just met and started something. If they stay together and a year from now it’s the same stuff that’s one thing. But like you said, moments like that are for the audience. And also for her to get to know more of him. People would be complaining if she came across as understanding him better than the 118 do saying it’s too early so they need to stop acting like it’s a big gotcha that she’s new to him and who he is.

All of this^^ Thank you, nonnie. While I am a proponent of allowing yourself to not vibe with a character regardless of gender, *some* people are being ignorant on purpose. And that's...understandable, given how the finale played out, but it doesn't make their argument or analysis any less biased. It's a bitter pill to swallow, I know, but the intention this season was never to put Buck and Eddie with each other, and if they're not with each other...the only other option is to introduce new love interests. What happens when you introduce new love interests? They have to get to know the guys. Buck and Natalia have been on less than a handful of dates in canon, and she hadn't spoken to him since leaving the loft when Kameron took the two by surprise. We can't expect her to have Buck figured out in such a short amount of time, and honestly? I'm glad she hasn't, because that would have been another "off screen development" to criticize. She's not quite sure where the relationship is gonna go, if it's gonna work out, but she knows she likes Buck and wants to at least TRY. Like you said, if we start season seven (MONTHS down the line) with Bucktalia and it really IS a repeat of BT where we can spot the problems within the first few minutes together, then yes, boast about Eddie knowing Buck best because he's the best friend/"true" love of his life. But Natalia, in her limited screen time, is still new, still learning. Would the alternative, her not even having to ask why Buck is the way he is, made sense given how slowly their relationship has developed? (The answer, ofc, is no. People weren't gonna be happy either way because they clung to the "couch theory" for much longer than they should have.)

All you had wanted to do that evening was to surprise-pick up Buck from the bar, where he had been with the 118 to unwind from a hard day's work. It had been announced that there would be a nasty storm coming and you wanted to know he was safely getting home, so you had decided on a whim to come and get him.

You hadn't expected your well-intentioned plan to backfire the way it did, nor had you anticipated to feel your heart shatter in your chest as soon as you walked up to the bar.

At first you'd been happy because Buck was there, already outside, presumably about to call a Uber. But then you noticed that he wasn’t alone.

And the next thing you saw was Buck kissing another man, causing your breath to stutter to a halt as your heart hurt like it had just been stabbed and squeezed out.

"Buck?!" you called, completely shell-shocked, and standing frozen to the spot a few feet away from him and the other man, who whirled around in surprise.

Thunder rumbled loudly above you and lightning struck shortly after.

As soon as your eyes met Buck's, he pushed the other guy off of him and hurried over to you, but you wouldn't have it and turned around on your heel as you stalked away.

"Y/N! Wait!" he yelled after you, still hurrying to catch up with you, but his semi-drunken state made it harder for him to actually run a straight line; especially as fast as he usually would.

It started pouring down, soaking you to your bones in cold rain. You barely felt it, though, as the pain your heart caused you overpowered everything else.

Buck kept pleading with you, begging you to wait, but the rain and occasional thunder mostly tuned him out, making it easier for you to ignore him - not that it would have made much of a difference to you if that hadn't been the case, though. You were good at ignoring somebody when you were upset.

"I swear, I can explain. It's not what it looked like!" Buck shouted over the rain.

That, you couldn't ignore.

You stopped and turned to look at him with an icy glare.

"Oh, please," you said harshly, "You're really gonna use that line on me? I mean, fuck, how could you do this to me, huh? How? Why?"

You paused, inhaling sharply.

"Is it because I'm trans? Am I suddenly not good enough for you because of it, or what? Am I too much trouble because of it?"

As soon as the words left your mouth you knew you had hurt him. He's always worked so hard to assure you about your gender identity; especially when your gender dysphoria made everything so much harder for you, when it was so overpowering that you couldn't think clearly anymore. He had always been there for you throughout and helped you as best as he could.

So the fact that you were accusing him like this must have hurt him nearly as much as it did for you to say it.

Buck looked angry and heart-broken, which only made your chest feel even more painful as a result.

"No! You know that's never been a problem for me, Y/N. Please, just listen to me."

Resigned, you nodded curtly, "Fine, explain yourself then."

"This guy, Brody - I think - has been flirting with me all evening long. I kept saying that I already have a boyfriend and tried to let him down easy at first, but he wouldn't budge. And right now, I was trying to leave to come home to you. I didn't want to spend another minute there, trying to get this dude off of my back. But then Brody kissed me against my will after he followed me outside."

Buck was an open book to read for you. Always has been. And right now, his face, his demeanour, his voice, his eyes - everything showed just how sincere he was about what he said.

His face softened and he continued, "I love you, Y/N. I would never hurt you like this. I would never even think of cheating on you in any way. I'm so happy with you. This is the most fulfilling relationship I've ever had. Please. You have to believe me."

Gnawing at your bottom lip, you let what he’s said sink in and mulled it over.

Having made a decision, you took a step closer to him, cupped his wet face in your equally soaked hands and captured his lips in a lingering kiss that spoke volumes. This kiss told him that you understood, that you were still sad, but that you loved him too, and most of all that you believed him.

The rain was hammering down on the two of you, as you stood there in the middle of the parking lot and kissed for what felt like an eternity, and you wished it would never end. You were both shivering from the cold, but it didn’t matter. All that was important was that you had each other, still.

“I love you, Evan,” you murmured as you rested your forehead against his. “While I believe that you didn’t kiss him, I’m still hurt, y’know? It’s gonna take me a bit to truly forgive and forget that it happened. Okay?”

Buck sighed, sounding relieved, “Yeah, that’s cool with me, as long as you don’t break up with me. Take your time. If there’s something I can do to make up for it-”

“Just be you,” you interrupted him, “You have nothing to prove or make up for. I’ve forgiven you, babe. It’s the forgetting that will be difficult because every time I close my eyes, I see Brody kissing you. So, just be your wonderful self as always and we’ll get past it together, I’m sure.”

You leaned back and smiled at him as you gently brushed aside his dripping hair that clung to his forehead.

“Thank you,” Buck breathed, kissing you ever so gently yet passionately on the lips.

When you broke the kiss, you took his hand into yours and pulled him with you.

“Come on, we had better hurry to our car and home now before we actually get sick or something,” you told him with a slight smile still stuck on your face.

Here is my Buddie shit for 5x11

So this is the post revolving almost entirely around all the Buddie shit from 5x11.

I can’t really get into this w/o spoiling the episode other than saying that there was definite progress made and possibly something major brewing for Buck (not pertaining to Lucy or Taylor) so I will place the cut here.

HUGE SPOLIERS UNDER CUT

Okay, let’s jump right in.

First of all I wanted to cover the big thing that didn’t really pertain to Buddie in the overall sense. (If you really want to see the Buddie content scroll until you hit the Bolded words) I wanted to talk about something Buck said while playing pool with Lucy at the bar. When Lucy was talking about them leaving the bar together Buck said “I’m the other way, I wouldn’t want to do that to you.” Now they could have worded that SOOOO many other ways: “I’m in the opposite direction,” “My apartment is the other way,” “I live in the other direction/the other way.” I could go on but you get the gist. Then, Buck seemed a little confused when Lucy said that she had never mentioned where she lives. 

Now. I could be reading WAY to much into this b/c they were talking about sharing an Uber and maybe Buck was just trying to shut the whole thing down before it started (we see how well that went) but I think that that line is vague enough that it could have hidden meaning. Why did Buck say “I’m the other way”? Like I said I’m probably reading way too far into this but what if the reason his place of living was never mentioned in that statement was b/c it didn’t just refer to his apartment being “the other way” but to BUCK being “the other way.” 

I am a firm believer that Buck is a bi icon, but the phrase “swinging the other way” IS commonly used when someone is referring to someone or themselves being attracted to the same gender/sex. I’m not saying “this is true and if you disagree with me I’ll report you.” I’m also not saying that I believe in this theory 100%, but I wanted to put the thought out there b/c the line seemed really vague to me. 

Moving on to the more Buddie related content as promised:

Starting off with something I mentioned in my last post, there were references to Buck and Eddie not needing words to communicate. The big one is this episode being Buck knowing that Eddie hasn’t been sleeping well just by looking at him and knowing that Eddie misses his job. However, as has seemed common throughout the season Eddie shuts down Bucks worry and tells him that he’s fine and Buck is wrong. I felt it important to point out the clear distinction of Buck knowing that Eddie wants to come back to the 118 and just how much Eddie misses his job w/o Eddie having to tell him. While at first this may have seemed like Buck being in denial at Eddie leaving and not wanting to believe that Eddie might not be coming back, We are shown later in the episode that Buck is right. After talking to Chris, who as we all predicted was not overjoyed at his dad quitting the 118, Eddie immediately asks to be transferred back to the 118. 

Then we get my favorite moment of the new episode, the callback to Bobby’s conversation with Buck before the infamous lawsuit. Even the soundtrack acknowledged the callback telling us the kind of place that Eddie is in right now. The difference is that when Bobby told Buck that he wasn’t ready to come back, a lot of his motivation behind that wasn’t just Buck’s physical or mental state but Bobby’s as well. B/c Bobby was afraid of Buck getting hurt that badly again and still scared after having watched Buck cough up blood and collapse on his patio. This time though, is all about Eddie’s mental state. Bobby knows that physically Eddie can do the job, but he’s worried about Eddie using the job to ignore his own mental health and if the promos are anything to go. Bobby’s right. I also think that it’s important to note that the clothes Eddie was wearing when he showed up at Bobby’s appear to be the same if not similar clothes to what he is wearing in the therapy scene in the promos. 

Anyway, the point is is that they are establishing exactly how well Eddie and Buck know each other but not really putting the characters in a place to acknowledge it in a big way. I’m really hoping we get something like that in the coming season. 

Next, I want to touch on all of the references to past Buddie things throughout the episode. First of all, there was the reference to the will, a little subtle but there nonetheless, with the speeding car. The mom and dad were talking about what would happen to the kids if one of them were to die in the truck, and the mom was saying that it would be better for their sons if she died over him because she can’t do it without them and she believed that his parents would take them from her and blame her for his death. We know that Eddie’s parents have been adamant about Eddie and Chris moving back to Texas canonically, but I am unsure if it goes any further in the show. Nonetheless, I know that the idea of Eddie’s parent coming to take Christopher back to Texas if Eddie were to die is something that is touched upon A LOT in the fandom. 

After that was Buck mentioning that he remembers how much he missed his job while he was Fire Marshall Buck. This is one of any references to the lawsuit arc along with the one I mentioned earlier about Eddie’s conversation with Bobby. The difference in this situation is that Buck is here this time to see everything that Eddie is going through and to be there for him. 

I know that there was more from the episode that I wanted to mention about Buddie, but for right now I have been typing about 5x11 for over an hour and it is nearly 11 PM. I’m gonna rewatch the episode tomorrow and probably rb this post with anything I forgot.

"Goodmorning!" Tk smiled brightly at his team. The tiredness was heavy in the room, but the cups of coffee glued to their hands seemed to make it all worth it.

"Goodmorning." You replied, waiting for you coffee to brew. "what's got you all excited?"

"I have planned the perfect date night for me and Carlos tonight." His face lit up as his excitement grew. You carefully sipped your hot coffee as he told you all about his plans for that night. Marjan and Nancy had giving up their places at the table to join you and Tk in the kitchen. All while Mateo, Paul and Judd were babbling away about a new video game they recently started playing.

"That's so cute." Nancy remarked after Tk finished his plan. "I've heard they have amazing pasta." She added, referring to the place Tk mentioned he was taking Carlos to. "Haven't you been there with Buck, Y/n?"

The mention of Buck's name took you off guard. Marjan and Tk were aware about the ending of your love life with the firefighter. But you forgot that Nancy and some others, hadn't been informed yet.

You met Buck durning the wildfire that took over Texas. Various teams were send out to help the Texas units but the 118 stuck out to you, or should you say, a certian firefighter stuck out.

From the first moment you saw him you knew you wouldn't hear the end of him very soon. When he left back for LA, your nights were pretty much filled with texts and endless facetime calls. At first you doubted the whole long distance idea but with regular visits and long car rides, your relationship grew in the best way possible. Even hitting the 5 month mark.

You never knew buck's parents and he didn't tell you much about them but you noticed his behaviour getting more distant when he announced the sudden visit they were paying. In your last texts as a couple he told you he was having dinner with them and that same evening, late at night, he rang to say it was over.

"Hey look, I'm sorry for bringing Buck up earlier." Nancy admitted. "I should have know."

"Yeah." You faked a smile. "A few weeks ago, I think." You didn't want to make a big deal out of it, not wanting to take Tk's moment and make it about you, but the memory of your ex boyfriend was still something you found rather difficult to talk about. "We broke up." You announced, thinking to better get it over with then to hide the truth. "Two weeks ago."

"No it's fine, you didn't know Nanc." You gave her a reassuring smile before putting on your gear.

"I'm here if you need to talk or vent okay."

The building before you was bursting into flames as you ran over to your captain to receive your commands. "Judd, Marjan, Y/n. You're on the second floor, there people still in there. Get as many out off there. The building is stable, but for a limited time. Mateo and I have you covered on the ground."

Once you entered the building your only thought were the people upstairs, you carefully followed Marjan and Judd as you shined your light to bright up the room. "I see them!" Judd screamed. The next step went fast as he grabbed the man and woman out of the room, he commanded Marjan to take them outside, which she did without a doubt. "There still 3 people here." Judd yelled. "I'll take the lady and the kid. Y/n, you take the baby."

You gazed over to the grib, checking the ground to make sure it was stable. Judd held the toddler in his arms as the lady clenched on to him for dear life, yelling for her baby before Judd got them out too.

You could feel the air beginning to limit, knowing time was now literally running out. You made your way over to the grib, grabbing the baby and sacrificing your own oxygen mask for his safety. You tried your best to put it on his tiny head without crushing him completely. When the helmet was as good as on, you made your way down the stairs.

Marjan met you half way the stairs, taking over the baby from your arms so she could run outside quicker. The air was limted, smoke clouded your lungs as loud coughs escaped past your lips. Marjan eyes shot up noticing the shock your body was about to go through thanks to the lack of oxygen. You felt the unstable stairs shift under your body. "Go!" You yelled. Marjan was hesitated but the loud cries of the baby signaled it's immediate need of medical care.

"I'll come back for you!" She yelled, sprinting outside. Running after her became impossible with the fire now taking over the stairs. You leaned sideways over the banister. The effect of the heavy smoke and now broken lungs made the thought of jumping over less doubtful. You jumped, crashing into the ground. A heavy pain took over your body as warm red liqued escaped into the ground. You weren't sure where it came from but since your body was already in so much pain, you knew the blood could come from anywhere.

You regretted to fall now knowing the consequences but you knew it was your only way of making it out alive. Judd and Owen came running over to you, praising you on your smart thinking so they wouldn't have to lose more time putting out the stair fire first.

You tried staying calm as they grabbed your body, but the blood loss and the amount of smoke you inhaled was starting to become fatal. Your eyes started to feel more heavy as dizziness clouded your head. "Don't close your eyes Y/n." Owen commanded. "We need you here." The day light hit your face, as you fell new oxygen enter your body.

"Stay awake Y/n. We got you now." Captain Vega assured.

"I can't." You cried out. You were tired and all you needed to do was just close your eyes for a second. "I can't." You repeated but this time more weak. Tk gave your hand a light squeeze as he placed the heartbeat device on your finger. A loud ringing took over in your head, blocking out the panicked discussions of your friends and paramedics.

You carefully opened your eyes, trying to take in your surroundings as a heavy shock of pain chrashed through your body. Your head was pounding and all you could hear were devices beeping and the muffled conversation outside. You recognised your friends their voices and the thought of them being here for you made you smile.

"We're losing here."

"Y/n?" A familiar voice asked. His voice was deep and sleepy. It felt like a dream hearing him here. Your vision was still blurry but you managed to control it after a few rapid blinks. "I'll get someone." His voice came from far. Because of the way the bed was positioned you couldn't see deep into the room except for the sealing and the close bedside chairs.

"It's fine."

You whined at the pain as you struggled to sit up. The voice came running over to you as he helped you sit more comfortable.

It was him.

"Buck?"

"Y/n." His eyes were red as tears fell down his cheeks. Looking at the state of him you could tell he has been here a while. "I thought I lost you."

Your mind may not have been clear or working properly thanks to the painkillers they gave you but you still remembered the painful heartbreak he caused you.

"I have heard nothing from you for two weeks, Buck."

"I know." His voice broke, barely leaving his lips with a defeated whisper. "And I am so sorry. What I did wasn't okay. I know that." He paused, trying to calm his breathing. You had to admit that the sight of him truly broke your heart. "I am a shitty person Y/n. You don't deserve me. I got scared. My p-parents they aren't good people and they-."

"Just maybe an explanation could be nice next time. You left me completely in the dark, how was I supposed to feel? You didn't answer my text or calls. I was worried."

"I know." He apologised, too ashamed to fully look at you. Your heart pounded in your head as the conversation continued, all you wanted was it to end.

"I'm not mad. Just disappointed. I mean what do you expect? I hear nothing from you and now you just show up here. You broke my heart, Evan." You felt the tears in your eyes but you were too stubborn to let them show.

"She's right, Buck." Owen interrupted once he entered the room. "Let them rest first, they aren't in the right mind for this."

Owen was right. You knew it. What Buck didn't wasn't okay and you weren't in the right mind to have this conversation right now. But still you had to stop everything in your body not touch him.

"Come see me when I'm better." You said softly. "Then will talk and figure something out."

The shimmer of hope in his eyes didn't go by unnoticed. "I'll wait for you. I promise."

How would you write an AU where Casca still retains her sanity after the Eclipse r*pe?

I feel like in that scenario you'd kind of have to give her a dual protagonist role at the very least. Like if I could write anything I just wouldn't have her dramatically raped and she could die or live and remain a secondary character, but if you're going to make the focal point of the climax of an arc her dramatic rape, well, now a big chunk of the story ought to be about her in the aftermath in order to even come close to justifying it.

Ugh though the big problem is that Casca's reaction should also be rage and lashing out imo, but Guts already has the market on that cornered, and unless we're changing like 80% of his characterization lol it'll just feel redundant.

So idk, I guess Casca could get the more mature personal healing arc where she makes new friends and does things that fulfill her and help her grow and come to terms with her trauma (becoming a hero or something, whatever), while Guts acts out on her behalf and ends up looking even more dysfunctional by comparison, essentially making them foils of each other. Not my preferred gendered dynamics at work, but it's hard to work around Guts' whole character there lol, and it could still be fun and interesting depending on how it's done.

Or, come to think of it, maybe you could even have a short arc where they're both v strict parallels who lash out in anger and go on apostle hunting sprees (say Casca gets a magic weapon or something, whatever), and then they start developing in opposite directions as Casca matures and Guts does not. I wouldn't really suggest Guts growing past his anger while Casca does not because that would require Guts moving on from Griffith and losing the homoeroticism, which is a sacrifice I'm unwilling to make, even if the trade off is Casca being a fucked up mess lol.

Ooh wait to get more specific - say Guts has the behelit and Casca gets the armour, and her arc is learning to control it by reaching a place of yk, emotional well-being where anger stops being a temptation, while Guts' arc ends with becoming an apostle a la the ghosts taunting him with the prospect of becoming like Griffith in chapter 118. I do feel that in an AU with no Millenium Falcon arc for Guts, him eventually using a behelit to become an apostle much like Zodd could be a fitting tragic end. He'd need a whole arc to establish despair and a sacrifice (could be Griff though) but yk, I feel like it's telegraphed at the end of the Black Swordsman arc so it's not inherently ooc, it's just not the direction Miura ended up taking. But in an AU it could work.

SO yeah, I guess I'd say give them the twin protagonist treatment where their respective responses to the trauma act as foils to highlight healthy/unhealthy ways of coping.

48. Fake Dating + 98. Curses

I didn’t mean for this to turn into another ficlet, but well. here we are so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There’s cursed mistletoe hanging from the rafters of the 118′s loft.

To Bobby’s credit, Eddie is pretty sure that he didn’t know it was cursed when he bought it and hung it up. And why would he? Athena was right there with him, so the curse would’ve just...skipped him by.

Just like it did Maddie and Chimney when she showed up with Jee-Yun to say his before their Christmas Eve shift, and just like it did with Hen and Karen when Karen and Denny did the same.

Not Eddie, though.

No. No, Eddie is stuck.

“Eddie? What are you doing?” Bobby asks, coming into the loft with Buck at his heels and bags of groceries in both their hands. Christmas Eve dinner, in the works.

“I’d love to help you guys unpack the groceries, but I’m stuck,” Eddie says.

He hadn’t even meant to walk under the stupid cursed mistletoe, but he’d had to dodge McKinney who was going by with her turnouts and now. Well. Here he is.

Buck cocks his head sideways, confused. “Why are you stuck?”

“Mistletoe’s cursed,” Eddie says, pointing up at it. He can move his arms, he can talk and breathe, but he cannot remove himself from under the mistletoe.

Not until he’s kissed by his partner, which would be handy if he wasn’t, y’know, extremely single.

“It’s not cursed, it’s charmed!” Bobby says.

“Yeah? And what about for all the single people on your shift, Cap?” Buck asks. “Pretty sure for people like me, that counts as a curse.”

Bobby flounders for an answer for a second, and comes up blank. “You’re right, I’m sorry. I got caught up in the spirit of things. Eddie, do you need us to call Ana?”

“Not gonna help,” Eddie says. This isn’t how he wanted to drop this particular news. “We broke up.”

“Oh,” Bobby says and Eddie waits for his inevitable sorry to hear that, since Bobby had been the one to tell him to move on in the first place. But it...doesn’t come.

Which is...a thing.

“Cap, do you remember the specifics on this thing?” Buck asks, nodding up at the mistletoe.

“Kissed by your partner,” Bobby says. “I remember because the witch working at the garden shop was very insistent on it being gender-neutral and all-inclusive.”

“Except of single people,” Eddie grumbles.

Bobby flushes a little. “I’ll call the garden shop.”

“Wait, I might have an idea,” Buck says. “That would be faster, anyway.”

“Literally anything is welcome right now, I’ve been standing here for twenty minutes,” Eddie says.

“We’re work partners, right?” Buck says. “Maybe we can, like, rules-lawyer the charm?”

Eddie chews on the inside of his lip. Of all the idiotic ways to end up kissing Buck for the -- hopefully -- first time.

“Worth a shot,” Eddie says and is a little concerned that Buck may be able to hear his heart skipping along a little too fast in his chest.

“I’m gonna call the garden shop, too,” Bobby says while Buck takes a step closer to Eddie.

“Why?” Buck asks.

“Because if this doesn’t work, you’re both gonna be stuck under there,” Bobby says.

While he dials the phone, Buck takes another step and is under the mistletoe beside Eddie. Eddie isn’t what one might call “extremely perceptive to magic” but he can feel the curse grab hold of Buck, too. Keeping him in place, until kissed by his partner.

“Here goes nothing,” Buck says. With a gentleness belied by his work-roughened, giant hands, he holds Eddie’s face still and leans in to kiss him.

Eddie is pretty sure the curse breaks the exact second Buck’s lips touch his, but he can’t find it in himself to care. And Buck’s always been much more sensitive to magic than he has, and surely felt the curse dissolve, but Buck doesn’t stop kissing him either.

Eddie slides his hands around Buck’s waist and pulls him in closer, pressing them together as best he can. Buck stumbles a little when Eddie tugs on him and breaks the kiss. He doesn’t go far, just rests his forehead against Eddie’s.

“You broke up with Ana?” Buck asks. “When?”

And there’s no way to answer that that doesn’t force him to tell on himself, but they’ve just been making out in the middle of the loft, so at this point, it’s sort of whatever.

“Um, when you broke up with Taylor?” Eddie says.

“That was over a month ago,” Buck says.

Eddie grimaces but nods.

“Can I kiss you again?” Buck asks.

Eddie starts to say “Yes, please, and then don’t stop” but Bobby clears his throat.

“Maybe after your shift and never again in the station?” Bobby says.

Buck and Eddie let go of each other and spring apart -- free of the mistletoe -- straightening bunched patches in their uniforms and drying their mouths.

“Yep, sorry, Cap, won’t happen again,” Buck says. “I will get started on those groceries!”

He winks at Eddie before he dodges around Bobby to the kitchen and Eddie watches him go, letting himself openly appreciate the long lines of Buck’s form, just for a second.

And then Bobby clears his throat and Eddie snaps back to face his captain.

Fortunately, there’s no reprimand on his face. Instead, Bobby looks fond and even, possibly, endeared.

“Sorry about that, Cap,” Eddie says.

Bobby shrugs as if to say “no harm done.”

“I did warn you that you might miss something right in front of your face,” Bobby says.

Eddie glances over at Buck, who’s pulling a bunch of carrots out of one of the grocery bags. He pauses to give Eddie one of his brightest smiles. Reflexively, Eddie smiles back. Out of the corner of his eye, he sees Bobby shaking his head with that same fond and endeared expression on.

“Not in the station,” he reiterates, and then he claps Eddie on the shoulder and goes to help Buck with the groceries.

Okay, so Buck first. I imagine that Buck first realized he wasn’t straight when he was in high school. He didn’t mention it to his parents because it’s not like they were that interested in who he was dating anyway. But he did come out to Maddie back then. They were driving around her jeep (coming out in cars is Real okay) and there was some cheesy pop music on the radio (it was the early 2000s) and he didn’t have the word “bisexual” just yet, but she asked if he was dating anyone/if he had a crush on someone and he said “uh...yeah. His name’s Jamie.” and she just took it in stride. Just kind of “oh, okay.” and then he added quickly “I still like girls, too, though” and since she was already through college at this point, so she knew sexuality wasn’t just gay and straight, so she didn’t even blink. “So, tell me about him” and he did. When he was done, she grinned, told him she wanted to meet Jamie some time, and turned up the radio. They drove around some more singing along to whatever cheesy pop song played next.

As far as Buck coming out as an adult, at some point in his late teens or early twenties he found the word bisexual. He never really tried to hide it, but he also never went out of his way to broadcast it. He never felt ashamed of his sexuality, per se, but he never felt proud of it either. It was just like...sometimes he dated guys, y’know? Anyways so flash forward to when he joins the 118. He doesn’t make a big deal out of it, but at some point early on Hen describes him as “a straight white boy” and he’s like “bold of you to assume I’m straight” “you’re not?” “not even a little” and leaves it at that. Sometimes he mentions hookups with guys during his 1.0 phase, but other than that he doesn’t really talk about it. He comes out to Eddie sometime in season 3, when he’s bemoaning his loneliness and Eddie says “you’ll find the right girl someday” and Buck suddenly realizes he’s never actually told Eddie he’s into guys so he responds. “Right person, actually.” and Eddie blinks twice. “What?” and Buck sighs. “I’ll find the right person, I’m bisexual.” and Eddie blinks again. “Oh...Cool…” and then they just move on.

Which brings us to Eddie. Eddie does not come to the realization that he’s queer until much later in life. He worries he might be gay in high school, because everyone else is interested in dating and girls, and he’s just. Not. Everyone always tells him that he and his good friend Shannon would make a good couple, and he’s pretty sure she has a crush on him, but he just likes her as a friend. Until one day, the summer after they graduate from high school, he looks at her and his heart starts racing and his palms are sweating but it’s not from the Texas humidity and oh my god. Is this what liking someone feels like? This is terrible, actually. But he was right about Shannon having a crush on him, so they start dating, and it’s great. And Eddie is relieved because falling in love with Shannon means he’s straight. He was just a late bloomer, like his mom said.

Anyways, so flash forward about twelve years and Eddie is starting to think he was wrong before. Oh, God, he was so wrong. He’s not sure when Buck went from his best friend to someone he was falling in love with, but it’s too late to go back now. But it’s fine. It’s fine. Buck is straight anyway, so it’s not even worth getting worked up over because it’s never going to happen and--Buck isn’t straight. Oh, hell.

And then he meets Ana, and she’s, well. She’s pretty, and he likes that she guesses his name right, but then he blows up at her and also she’s his son’s teacher, so that’s kind of weird. And then the pandemic hits, and he’s forced into close quarters with Buck and it gets impossible to deny his feelings to himself any longer. But he doesn’t know what to do about it. The problem for Eddie is that he’s only really had strong feelings for two people ever in his life, and the word ‘bisexual’ doesn’t to fit. More like ‘these two people in particular-sexual’ but that doesn’t really make sense.

So, when Ana comes back into his life, it seems like the easy way out. Nobody has to know that he has all these weird, confusing, not-heterosexual feelings. He’s 33 years old, who has a sexuality crisis at 33? Of course, the universe has other plans. He gets shot, he almost dies, and he realizes he doesn’t really feel anything for Ana and he probably never will, and predictably by the time he’s finally ready to confront his feelings and sexuality, Buck is dating Taylor. Great.

Anyways, so Eddie goes to Hen for help figuring himself out because if anyone would be able to help, his married lesbian friend seems like a very good bet. And he’s right. He explains how he’s only ever been in love with two people and that gender doesn’t seem to be a big factor in it, and she points him to the concept of asexuality and aromanticism, and more specifically demisexuality/demiromanticism and it just clicks for him. He wasn’t a “late bloomer” after all. So, I guess Hen is the first person Eddie comes out to. And he doesn’t really feel the need to come out to anyone else at that point because it’s not really anyone’s business.

Eventually, he and Buck get together. And for Buck, telling people isn’t a big deal because he’s been out as bi for years. Eddie isn’t reluctant to tell their found family, or even the rest of the 118. But he is nervous to tell his biological family. He doubts they’ll be too happy about him being with a man, let alone understand the concept of demisexuality. He starts with Abuela and Pepa, the family he’s closer to (literally and figuratively). He comes out to both of them at the same time, at Abuela’s, over a home cooked meal. He tells them that he and Buck are dating, that he loves him. Pepa puts a hand over his and gives it a gentle squeeze. “I’m proud of you,” she says. “It was about time you put that boy out of his misery.”

Eddie chokes on a surprised laugh. Then he looks at Abuela. Abuela is quiet for a minute before standing and walking around the table to where Eddie is sitting. She pulls him up to standing and gives him a tight hug. “Te quiero.”

Next he comes out to his sisters, who are pretty chill about the whole thing, and lastly his parents. His parents liked Buck when they met briefly, so if Eddie was going to be with a man, at least he picked a good one. And given that the rest of the family already knows and is supportive, it’s not like anyone would be on their side if they had a problem with it, and they want to keep seeing their grandson. So they just say “okay” and accept it in the most passive way possible.

Anyways this got SUPER DUPER long and detailed, so I’m going to end it with this: After they’ve been out (both Eddie coming out and Buck and Eddie being out as a couple) for awhile, Hen drags them to that year’s LA Pride with her, Karen, and the kids, and they end up meeting up with Michael, David, Harry and May there (and Bobby who is wearing a t-shirt that says “Free Dad Hugs” in rainbow letters, Buck takes him up on the offer immediately).
