Before Arthur dies, I like to play the fishing and wolf hunting missions with Hamish for a few final moments of almost normalcy. I wonder if Arthur ever thought about Hosea during those trips and how much he misses him. I think Hosea would have loved being a part of catching the Tyrant.

The amount of people who think that the Strange Man is talking about Arthur when he says to John, "You've forgotten far more important people than me," will never not astound me. Yall really think John could possibly ever forget Arthur? Arthur? The man he grew up with? Who taught him? Who cared for him? Who helped raise him? Who saved him multiple times? His brother? The same John who could not rest until Micah Bell was dead because he couldn't let go of his pain and anger over how Arthur died? The same John who still wore Arthur's satchel and kept his hat and wrote in his journal? That John? Little Johnny Marston? Please be serious. Arthur haunted John's dreams and thoughts until the very day he died in front of that damn barn, and you can not convince me otherwise. If he remembers Dutch, Bill, and Javier, I promise you he sure as shit would remember Arthur lmfao.

I have always thought Arthur is more Hosea’s son than Dutch’s son. Deep down he is sentimental, thoughtful and gentle. Behind the hardened exterior all Arthur wants is peace and safety for him and his family just like Hosea.

Sure Dutch has influenced Arthur’s ways and actions but his morals and beliefs match Hosea’s far more than Dutch’s. Women and children both came before Arthur and Hosea’s safety, keeping the younger gang member out of harms way was far more important than money or the plan ever was.

Arthur and Hosea had this real connection that he lacked with Dutch. Sure Dutch wanted Arthur to be safe but only for the betterment of himself, I covered how Dutch isn’t a selfless person is a previous post, however Hosea was more of a carer to Arthur. He genuinely wanted to see Arthur thrive and be safe. He saw past this big brutish man and saw the soft and caring being deep down and nurtured it far more than Dutch ever wanted to.

I even feel like Arthur took on a similar relationship with Lenny. Arthur was like a leader and carer to Lenny just as Hosea was to Arthur in his younger years. Genuinely invested in his life and safety, not because Arthur benefited but because he genuinely wanted to see him succeed and be safe. I feel like Hosea would have been so proud of Arthur after his passing, he stood by keeping his family safe and in the end sacrificed himself.

The way Hosea talks about Bessie is genuinely one of the sweetest things ever I just. How fondly he still reminisces about her, how dearly he holds her memory. From areas that remind him of her to little things like playing dominoes with Arthur, she’s always on his mind. The last thing he thinks about when he goes to sleep and the first thing he things about when he wakes up. “How a wretched sinner like me could be given someone so perfect, so beautiful to take care of for once in my wretched life, do my best”. God he loved her. He loves her. He cannot rationalise her death, he cannot see any fairness in how she has died and he is still alive. He left the gang for her and it didn’t last but he did leave, he tried to live a normal life for her, and she understood when he drifted back into things. Even with his approaching death, he’s worried that he won’t get to see her again, that she’s gone to heaven and he won’t end up there with her, and even still he says he’s ready for his own death. He loved her and he still loves her and he loves her until his death does find him. Every time he talks about her you can just feel all of that love he still has for her and it makes me so emotional. you can't possibly comprehend how much i just want hosea to give rdr1 dutch a hug. you can't possibly imagine how much i wish he was there to talk him off cliffs, metaphorically and literally. they need to hug. pls let them hug or i kms 😭

Okay brief headcanon/backstory thing

This obviously isn't probably canon but- whatev I'm having fun leave me.

ELIZA JONAS -

Eliza worked in the bar but she was like a play-gal. She KNEW she was purdy and she used it by robbing drunk perverts and such, sometimes she'd end up killing them depending on how things went. But she did actually love Arthur and would often swap between the camp and the saloon she worked in ( keeping in mind in Arthurs words the gang was much less of a gang and more laid back then) when she had Isaac tho, she became good and honest for him. She always had a grudge against Arthur because she sacrificed everything for Isaac and he couldn't even give up a gun. She never really fell in love with an another man but her and Arthur weren't a thing for long. Mary happened somewhere inbetween Isaacs birth and Elizas death.

BESSIE MATTHEWS -

Okay i know Bessie looks STRIKINGLY like Mary Gillis in this and trust, she wasn't meant to. It just happened.

Anyway her and Hosea were never able to bare children and so basically just adopted everyone. Eliza was an orphan and never really had a female role model, Bessie quickly stepped into that role snd they got close - Bessie would often look after her when she was pregnant and help her with Isaac. When Bessie died Eliza stopped going to see the gang as much and simply waiting for Arthur to come to her. She was like a grandma to Isaac.

SUSAN GRIMSHAW -

idk how canon it is but i saw an old photo of her somewhere? I prob js missed it in the game but the photo was mighty purdy. But rarely do i see people talking about miss Grimshaws scar on her face? Maybe thats why she's so insecure - maybe that 'tainted' her beauty and Dutch quickly replaced her with Annabel, who he deemed 'more pretty' and she forever had a distain toward girls she thought were pretty. I actually love miss Grimshaw she needs more appreciation.

ANNABEL STARK (?) -

Not much to say about her. Her father was a bigger business man but tried to basically sell her, Dutch 'saved' her snd from then on she was 'golden girl'. She never got a chance to experience the loss of love that Miss Grimshaw and Molly O'shea did as she was murdered whilst picking flowers by Colm O'driscoll.

Yeah this is really far from canon but I'm having fun LMAOO
