Now this might be because I have issues but is it just me or does Slay The Princess feel like an allegory for a relationship?
#like i dont even mean the actual textual stuff like the two gods loving each other i mean like#while the narrator himself does say that he is not the protagonist at all the voices do in fact count him as one of them and#both the narrator and the voices are described as shattered glass pieces on the floor#and im saying that just to contextualise what im about to say because i feel like the narrator is an echo of someone who was in#a relationship with another person and is trying to 'slay' the memory of this person and defeat death not only literally but#on a metaphorical level (as in the death of a relationship). if you do slay her you destroy her memory and in that way you do not know her#at all nor do you care to#and the routes would be the perspectives held by different parts of you. shes literally a being that changes based on who perceives her#but metaphorically thats just how people work isnt it? relationships are complicated and there is a part of you who sees someone as a razor#and there is a part of you who sees them as a damsel and another who sees them as a god etc etc#its like youre a person who is trying to make sense of the situation and; which is why the construct of the princess is made up of#several vessels called perspectives. you understand the whole of what you think only when you take apart all your perspectives;#and theres a you who isnt you anymore who doesnt want to do this. hes telling you to just destroy it. it was wholly wretched and wholly bad#and it changed which is a crime in itself. theres an echo of you. and theres you; built by this echo because thats how the self works#we are each our own god and we build ourselves. the different voices are like different parts of you#much like the vessels are the equivalent of the voices. theyre the finite confined perspectives; aspects of a whole person#and slaying her in this context would obviously mean literally just destroying the memory and deciding that change and all it brings#is an awful thing. though im not yet sure what the difference between leaving with the whole and between separating yourself#and leaving with just an aspect would be.#thats probably like the only thing thats kinda ruining this interpretation lol#oh and obviously a lot of the routes have like very strong relationship symbolism. specifically a lot of them feel like#scenes from a relationship that is falling apart. for example in the adversary and then the fury when you run away the dialogue#basically mimics a partner running away from a conflict and the other one destroying themselves because of it#witch and the thorn are both heavily Esop-coded and the text itself says that its about two people hurting each other even though they love#each other but both are afraid of the other one and of being vulnerable. thorn is about finding forgiveness in one another#and deciding to be better and love each other despite the hurt youve caused each other due to your problems#etc etc#like am i insane am i mental am i projecting?

Aemond had anticipated the raven returning to Kings Landing. He had waited for it patiently, spending his days assisting his mother and brother, or roaming the realm for the letter that would give him the answer he knew was coming. And when the day rolled over, and he had been in his chambers, and Ser Cole had summoned him to the Small Council Chambers, he had known his answer had arrived.
‘Queen Rhaenyra of House Targaryen, First of Her Name, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and of the First Men, Ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm has accepted King Aegon’s terms of treaty…’

The wait for the next moon was agony, and Aemond found himself so restless that he returned to Harrenhal to see a pair of familiar, piercing green eyes. Alys Rivers had waited for his return, and upon his arrival, did not seem at all surprised.

Aemond had landed on the island, and his first thought was the smell. It was sulphuric to its very core, and the smell of coal and dragon was strong as it was carried through the oceans breeze. 
Waiting for him on the top of Dragonmont were several guards and a knight who had introduced himself as Ser Darke. Aemond had eyed the knight who was tall, and handsome by any standards. He wondered if this was your personal knight. 
And then he wondered if this knight had taken your maidenhead. 
Aemond felt himself sour until the knight with dark hair had handed him cream and red robes.

His grandfather Otto’s voice carried across the wind, and Aemond watched as he got closer, listening to the elder Hightower prattle on about the greatness of Aegon and his treaty. 
Aegon was too thick to think of a treaty.

He watched as your eyes flitted from Otto to him, mouth slackening. And then he felt it. The burning gaze of his uncle, Daemon Targaryen. The Rogue Prince had given him a one over, before looking down to his daughter. 
Asking with his eyes to smite his nephew.
Aemond walked to stand in front of you beside the alter, and his breath had stopped in his lungs.

Regal.
Every part the blood of Old Valyria.

When you had not said a word, and he had stood before you, your eyes glazed over as your mind no doubt reeled at the thought of being reunited with your eldest uncle. Aemond did not take offence when you had jumped at his palm. 
“I will have the maids come and dress you for the evening.” 
And they had. In the dress he had your favourite tailor in Dorne make for you. 
One black dragon, one green dragon. 
Together as one. 
One.
Us. 
Aemond had watched you be bathed and dressed and could not help but notice at how you were, despite being present physically in the room, not present mentally. You had drifted away behind your eyes and numbly let the women wash, dry and dress you. Even as he had touched the small of your back and led you out of the chambers, and cooed small compliments to you, you had not come back to the present. 
Aemond had even tried mentioning Lucerys, to see if that could rise you from whatever depths you were lost in, and yet you did not come back to him.
He felt a pit of anxiety settle in his stomach.
He thought of Helaena, and how he had gradually watched her do the same. With each passing day, he watched his beloved sister, the sweetest and kindest of all, fade into a nothingness until not even she herself could stand it any longer, and threw herself from her window in Maegor’s Holdfast.
“Zaldristos.” He had uttered, small panic in his voice. 
Please do not go with her. 
I cannot loose you too.
Please Gods, do not let her go to madness. I will do whatever you ask me to.
Do not take her from me.
You had swallowed thickly after he spoke his prayer, and your eyes had met him. The spell had been broken, and the Gods had listened. You were back, and the first thing your eyes did was open widely, almost in shock of your hazy mind, looking down at the dress that fit you more perfectly than he could have ever imagined. 
Aemond reminded himself to tip the tailor. 
You had walked together, as one, to the intimate Dining Chambers, and were announced to the room as you entered. ‘His Lady Wife Y/n Velaryon.’
‘His Lady Wife.’
His.
Aegon sat with his small council around him, their mother and grandfather waiting at the table. Aegon had this mischievous glint in his eye which made Aemond inwardly cringe. He had remembered the look that Aegon would get when he wished to start trouble, and this evening would be no different. 
“There they are!” The King had stood, arms wide and Aemond inwardly groaned. 
His brother was a prick.
The crown on his head must weigh heavy on his skull, for his brain was surely being crushed by the force.
Aemond watched as Aegon tried to goad you into a fight, and he felt himself bristle instead.
She is mine.
Mine to love. Mine to touch. Mine to hold. Mine to torment, and fuck, and put heirs into.
Mine.
He had pulled a seat out for you, and you had sat, and he was proud of how well you were behaving on your first night back in the Red Keep. He had expected you to launch yourself across the table, all claws and teeth and rip his brothers, or his mothers, throat out. 
Would it be a sin if he said he was disappointed that you didn’t?
Aemond could sense his good Lady Wife stiffening beside him and heat pouring from her body as Aegon continued to try and lure her into a fight. To try and get her to react to him. The air was tense from the other Lords at the table as they all watched in anticipation of a very tumultuous celebration of a very tumultuous union.
“I don’t think I’ve heard my niece be so quiet before. Have you broken her already, Aemond?” 
Not in the way I would have liked to.
Not in the way you had tried to.
Aemond hummed. 
“Don't tell me she has snatched your voice too, brother? One minute in her cunt and already you’ve gone soft.” Aegon snickered.
Fucking cunt.
Aemond watched as Otto tried, and failed, to diffuse the tension as he saw the warning signs of Aemond’s temper begin to simmer. It was fine for the Princess to be riled, she could not act if she wished to annul the treaty, but Aemond? 
Aemond could do as he pleased. 
And if he pleased to launch himself across the table and strike his drunken brother, he would. 
Aegon laughed loudly and Aemond felt you stiffen beside him. 
All instincts kicked in, and Aemond felt suddenly protective of you. 
I won’t let him touch you. 
You are mine now.
I won’t let anyone harm you again.
You are mine.
Conversation moved about the table, and Aemond felt he could relax, but only just. Aegon continued to drown himself in his cups, and he watched as you did not move to eat your supper, instead drinking from your goblet. 
“Tell me brother, have you bed her yet?”
Aemond felt blinding rage course through him. 
You fucking cunt. You fucking piece-
“Do you remember how it is done? I’d be happy to show you.” 
Even the Lannister laughed, and Aemond had to control his breathing as to not take the blade at Ser Coles side and thrust it through the two of them.
You keep laughing, Lannister, and I will fuck a silver haired babe into your wife as a gift.
You keep laughing and I will make you watch me do it.
Willingly or not. 
Alicent tried, and failed, as she always had, not that she ever fully tried, to chastise Aegon, to rein him in. But he was King now, and he had the Kingly arrogance to match. 
“We should hold a bedding ceremony, to ensure that the deed is done properly. I can talk you through it.”
You fucking bastard.
He thinks I don't know how to fuck a woman? He thinks I don't know how to bed my own wife?
My niece?
If only he knew the things he was capable of. Of what he does to Alys. Of how she begs for it, and cries for it, and pleads on her knees, mouth open and eyes wide.
Or demands it, legs spread, cunt weeping and waiting for him.
“Come now brother, surely you have not forgotten what I showed you on your thirteenth name day.” Aegon laughed, pulling his goblet up to his lips. 
Aemond’s heart ached and his stomach dropped. 
He did not want to remember that.
He wished to forget.
He wished to forget their hands on him. Their mouth on him. How Aegon had laughed as he watched. How Aemond had not wanted to. How he had cried after and felt shame and anguish. How he had felt confliction and disgust. 
He had wanted it to be you. 
He had wanted to lay with you as his first. 
But you weren’t his first. Nor his second, nor would you be his third.
Aegon saw to that.
Aegon had taken something from him in which he could never get back. 
Aemond’s jaw clenched tightly as he watched his brother, the feeling of the older woman’s crawling hands on his body. 
“The King is merely joking with you, My Prince. We are all in good spirits for this union.” Otto spoke. 
Fuck you too.
“You heard the old bat, we are all in good spirits! You are finally wed to the one woman who had given you any attention at all. Sure, she is a bastard-“
“Watch your tongue.” You had sneered, finally breaking your silence. 
Aemond pulled from his sickening thoughts and felt your anger beside him run through him. Your blood in him. He had never been so angry. He had never felt so vengeful. So provoked. Not even in Storms End did he feel such wrath. 
He wished to kill his brother. 
“So she speaks!” Aegon declared proudly to the table, looking at the Lords as they all smiled unsurely, “Finally. There is my niece who I know and love. Though I fear if you are able to speak, perhaps my brother did not fuc-“
Aemond shot up from the table, ready and willing to do it. 
It could be so easy. 
It could be so easy to kill him. Right here, right now. Before all the Lords and his mother. He could snuff the life out of the man he called his brother, his King, and he could do it without a second thought. He would gladly watch the light fade from those violet eyes. He could watch the wa-
“Aem, brother.” Aegon mock cooed, “You know I am only teasing. Come, let's raise our cups to this fine union!” 
He was mocking him. 
Mocking him.
He was saying he was not a man. Questioning his manhood again. Questioning his ability to be a man.
All lifted their cup and Aemond turned to look at you, you were already watching him. Your mouth was parted and pupils dilated and a flush lay on your cheeks. You were so angry. You were angry with him. But your eyes looked frightened. 
Aemond watched as your hand came to soothe him, to touch him. He didn't want to be touched. He kept thinking of his thirteenth name-day and his skin crawled. And seeing you look up at him like that. In pity.
It disgusted him.
He didn’t want your pity. 
“To my brother, may she warm your heart and your cock, and may you make me a grand-uncle soon enough. And to my wonderful niece, may you warm his bed, and birth his heirs, and feel the warmth of his love.”
Aemond bitterly drained his cup, and watched as his wife did the same. If he sat for a moment longer at this table, and had to look at his brothers shit eating grin a moment more, he would ride atop Vhagar and set the entire Keep ablaze. 
“Excuse us, I wish to spend time with my wife.” 
Aemond left the room, not even waiting for you, as he knew you would follow him. You would not sit alone in the chambers with Aegon or his mother. He knew you would not do it, and so the dutiful zaldristos followed him, just as he planned.

Cancer rules hotels, motels, etc. Hotels are all about hospitality, making people feel welcomed, comfortable, provide for basic needs like a bed, food, etc. Of course this will differ based on quality and the kind of place but in general places designated to provide shelter and a place to stay are ruled by Cancer
When I learned this it made a lot of sense cause my mom has Groom in Cancer and 7th house ruler in the 4th house and she met her fs at a hotel. I know a couple who has Cancer ASC in their composite chart and they met at a hotel
Jupiter is a very unpredictable planet and a negative manifestation of it is that it can make things grow uncontrollably without reliable results. Jupiter can give blessings yes but it does not guarantee success. Those blessings are just opportunities but it's up to you what to do with them.

Something I don't see people mention much (maybe because its obvious) is that Libra energy makes things to be balanced in itself because Libra is all about avoiding any extremes. Libra makes this to be on the "elevated" or positive side but always keeping it moderate. For example, if you have Libra ruling your money houses your income could be averagely decent, like you could make good money (cause, Venus) but you're not insanely rich either or it does not appear that you are (cause Libra also rule appearances).
Aquarius rules heavy cold winds (you know like those very heavy and erratic winds), that’s why it also rules over airports and planes. I've also seen astrologers say that back in the day, Aquarius used to rule over sailing of bigger boats which also needed heavier winds in order to move
We all know Leo rules inner child. One thing about children is that when you're a kid you kinda don't have a concept of others being their own person and having completely different lives (that's something Aquarius brings awareness to, that's why its the humanitarian), but rather kids tend to assume everyone lives the same way as they do. In composite, the ASC is how the relationship started and how it generally comes across as but the 7th house is the dynamic the two people have between them, how they actually interact with each other
Both Aquarius and Pisces are the last two of the zodiac wheel and both relate to themes of evolving as human and elevating spiritually but because of this, these signs are the hardest to develop healthily and many people fail to do so. That's why you see many Aquarius and Pisces placements with a god complex or huge entitlement cause both share this sentiment of feeling 'different', more elevated or special than everyone else

Pisces is about accepting the "soul" of things while Virgo is attached to an idea of how things should be. That's also why Venus finds falls in Virgo because Venus is related to kindness (this does not mean Virgo Venus people are inherently unkind, this can manifest in any unhealthy virgo placement, it's just an astrological explanation)
Domicile/exaltation is not always positive. When a sign exalts a planet it means that it can enhance both its positive AND negative qualities. That's why exalted mars can manifest as toxic masculinity or why exalted Venus can manifest as textbook enabling behaviour. On the flip side, planets are its fall/debilitation are challenging placements because the positive qualities of the planet are weakened but at the same time its negative qualities can be neutralized. For example, Mercury debilitated can be less prone to pointless rambles and have a more focused intellectual approach, debilitated Venus can be less compliant, etc
The energy that rules horror astrologically is Pisces/12th house/Neptune, we usually associate it just with dreams and idolization but it actually has a creepy and twisted side to it. Neptune is all about blurring the boundaries of reality including what we judge to be good or bad (Virgo). It rules over dreams AND nightmares. Not only that but Neptune energy does not understand the difference between a dream and a nightmare. This characteristic can range from blindness to red flags all the way to having rather morbid fascinations.
Following the above, the association of 12th house with nightmares is also explained by Saturn finding its joy is this house (the so called 'bad spirit', the never-ending burdens that come to haunt you). However, as I explained earlier in the post, Saturn is the key to success so this means Saturn is the key to help you achieve your dreams (12th house)
Pisces/Neptune energy rules spirituality but at its lowest it can also be the most superficial and vain sign (again, the negative side of Venus exaltation) because Pisces also rules illusions and idolization. It can focus so much on portraying an ideal image that it does not dive deep within, wants to escape reality and live a fake ideal
In terms of performance, Leo is theoretically better at sex than Scorpio
How to read the chart of a Nation + some observations
Sun signifies the characteristic of the rulers and it also symbolizes what that country is all about if that makes sense. For example USA is Cancer Sun and they've always been known for they patriotism and how they're very attached to their past as a nation.
Moon represents the people (civilians, population, the society). The energy you will likely experience by actually spending enough time there and start integrating yourself with the people. For example New York has Aries Moon and a relative of mine who used to live there once told me jokingly "with all the hustle and normalized criminality sometimes it feels like a war zone here"
Ascendant is the general national identity they present, the first thing that comes to mind when you think about that place. I've also noticed the stereotypes of a nation a lot of times relate to its ASC. For example Canada (Toronto) is Libra ASC and they’re known for being polite and nice to everyone. Japan (Tokyo) has Virgo ASC and their known for being super diligent and clean (think Marie Kondo). USA (nation) is Sagittarius ASC and they’re known for being loud, entitled, optimistic, multicultural, a massive country, cowboys and country music, etc.

Playerscope, modding and the hunt for aesthetic: why you should be more upset about mods and community expectations than you already are.
I love that this sounds like an academic paper but HONESTLYYYY. I need to put my thoughts to paper in regards to my burnout with xiv, otherwise I think I'll go insane. This is a controversial yet brave post. I am well aware that I partake in some of the things I'm going to be critiquing; aka, "thank you, dinklebottom, we live in a society." I'm also not critiquing mods from a space of offering more accessibility to people and/or facilitating representation not currently offered within the context of the game. There is nuance to every discussion and I'm coming at this from an overarching view around mods and community expectations/standards rather than player joy. I hope this makes sense. I'm also predominately writing from a roleplay perspective, though I'm sure a lot of what I end up saying can reflect in the art party/social space. Just know if I haven't mentioned the latter it's because that's not my scene and I don't pretend to know otherwise.
Anyway. For those who don't know, there's a new mod that's causing some strife in the xiv community called Playerscope. Here is the reddit thread about it. I'm not going to be talking too much about the mod in general because that's not the point of this post, but seeing discussion around it today just made me feel more exhausted than I already am when it comes to modding and the xiv community around it. It made me realise... I'm actually really sick to death of mods. I'm sick to death of what they're doing to the community when it comes to gatekeeping, policing and in general the interactions we have with each other in the community.
Let me explain: I wrote a post about the roleplay mod on bsky that kind of articulates at a surface level what I mean.

I think what makes me sad, which I'm sure is echoed by a lot of people, is that mods feel like the standard now rather than an option and that there's a certain expectation for people to have them if they want to engage with facets of the community—whether intentional or not.
Unlike XIV, WoW has a supported mod scene (within reason) and TRP 2 and the like have been accepted for years now. In a space where people can't slap on an RP tag, having that tool readily identifies you as a writer/roleplayer and you can include as much or as little of your character as you like. The general idea is if you have one of these tools enabled, you're a roleplayer to some capacity. You can dress up the profile to a certain degree, you can add links and supported pictures, but you're mostly reliant on what you put to paper in regards to your character. Even then, I find filling out what my character is doing currently and marking the rest as a WIP doesn't necessarily exclude me from roleplay if I want to find it. A lot of people will do that and a super simple description to incite interest around their oc.
These days in XIV... I don't know. I do think communities have gotten more insular—it's why I'm so pedantic about trying to find them for the Compendium—but I also think mods and, to a certain extent, the 'nightclub' scene have gotten in the way of it as well. My argument is such.
I want to go to an event (for example sake, I'll call it Seascape). In order to fully participate, I may need:
Their discord.
A roleplay addon.
A carrd/google site/etc.
Their synchshell (including mods, mare and everything else)
Potentially a mod of some description so people know I can see theirs (and vice versa).
Also that your mod isn't made by a shitty person.
Appropriate understanding of the scene/social space.
Some luck and a prayer that it's an inclusive space and not a closed rp group advertising as being open and/or a mod showcase advertising itself as something different.
Like??? Holy shit you guys. If you are someone who doesn't want to mod because you're worried about repercussions it really just feels like a big 'fuck you, good luck'.
And let me be clear, not every community is like this. I'm incredibly lucky to have found fantastic roleplay within my own rp event/community, I have great friends who run awesome, inclusive events for people of any skill (writing or otherwise) and I do fully believe you can just enable the rp tag and find fun, fulfilling roleplay. But I've also found the above a lot of times, too. I've had people point-blank get mad at my partner because he won't install mods and try to exclude and/or circumvent him in spaces. It's weird. I've been to events where the only time I felt like I got proper interaction(s) was when I joined the aforementioned, even if I have my character's profile linked in my about. It's weird.
Honestly, no wonder new roleplayers feel overwhelmed. Not only do they have to learn roleplay etiquette, they have to be a mod expert overnight? It feels less about what someone can bring to the table as far as a story but what mods they can install to either look cool or pass an unspoken social barrier. As much as I'm down bad for aesthetic and looking the part, I hate it being at the cost of accessibility and fun for someone else.
Arguably it's the same for gposing and the like as well, which contributes to my exhaustion alongside all the graphical changes and I just. I'm gnawing at the bars of my cage.
I don't think it's going to change and arguably it's more of a Twitter/X issue than a Tumblr, one but Tumblr lets me write mini essays and Twitter will tell me to kms.
Ergo, I'll go with the essay-writing platform.
Anyway, I guess this is just a reminder that you don't need 4596419651 mods to be in the community and that people should be more vigilant on including people who don't have them for whatever reason, provided they operate in good-faith and want to contribute. I think we're careening to a slippery slope of expectation for something unsupported and I don't like it.

1-design stuff
Some notes, the style of clothing is very similar, most if all chrysos heirs have the same eye stuff that ratio has some just aren't colored (you can see it on some of the models in the trailer or the art at the end of the first trailor)
Spirals are a big thing, as well as the belt with the fabric (idk what it's call im sorry) and it draping over their legs. The blue stones and gold stuff.

I'm sure there's other design stuff and I might add it later. But for now this is all I got.
2-story elements
Now, this is more the lack of story, ratio has nothing but crumbs for his lore, where he's from, anything about him. Even his character storys aren't told from his own perspectives. The only time he really talks about himself is when he's referring to his goals or his love of books and baths.
He also doesn't have any clarification on where he's from other than the Intelligencea guild, and that's just a faction. There's no mention of his home planet at all.
On the official wiki. There are some that are classified as cosmic but we know the home of (boothill, acheron, Sunday, rappa[iffy, we know some details, like it was under dr.primive, but we don't know it's name so idk]) and some that we don't because it doesn't matter to there lore bcs there wanderers. Like sparkle, blackswan, and argenti. But dr.ratio doesn't fall into any of those categories. His home planet is vaguely mentioned as they have a bunch of stuff on him, but that's it.

It seems to matter to his lore, as you'd want yo know all about this great doctor, yet he's a complete mystery. And the quests don't help either.
He's not made for penacony or the space station. He even calls himself a supporting character, his character story was about others and guiding the trailblazer through helping them. He was solely there to help aventurine in penacony. Barely anything for himself.
That lack of knowledge tells me what I need to know. Either he's purposely keeping it a mystery, or it's gonna be figured out later. I mean if he is from amphoreus, he probably keeps it a mystery bcs how the hell is he gonna prove it's real.
3- What proves it's not real.
So, there's all this evidence, but it's lacking or doesn't make sense in some areas. Most of these points were brought up on tiktok by @/veritasratioenjoyer they make some really good points in their post, and its what inspired me to make this:)
So. It's stated in the livestream that the people of amphoreus have no concept of the outside world, meaning it's very unlikely that he's from there, considering how well known he is and that he follows the path of the erudition.

With each passing moment, you grew more worried for them. Sure, they were some thousand-year-old invincible original vampires, but over the years, they made quite a few formidable enemies. Being a human, you never imagined the horrors of the supernatural world.
Lost in thought, you almost didn't hear the loud footsteps entering the house. By the way they hit the floor, you instantly knew it was Kol. You were quite observant, and despite not having the heightened senses of a vampire, you could use your own quite well.
"Now, now brother, that wouldn't be quite fair, would it?" You heard Klaus' thick accent. Kol cackled and Elijah mumbled something incoherent to which Kol doubled over laughing.
You quickly snuggled to the pillows, lying down and pulling your heap of blankets closer, closing your eyes and pretending to sleep, turning around slightly so that the boys would not be able to see the smile you were sure you would not be able to keep off your face.
As the footsteps grew louder, an argument between the younger brothers could be heard.
"Shhhhhh."
The whispers ceased and you could almost hear the smile forming on Elijah's face.
A chuckle.
A pat.
Footsteps retreated and one moved forward. You feel the couch dip at where your feet rested and Kol took them in his lap and rubbed them with his rough fingertips. His touch was warm, and with great effort you silenced the sigh escaping your lips.
He stood up and moved. He lifted you up in his arms, bridal style, discarding the blankets covering you. You fought off the smile threatening to form on your face as he carried you upstairs.
A door opened and closed.
Kol laid you on the plush bed and covered you with the silky duvet. You made no movements to get more comfortable. He pushed your hair out of your face and grabbed your ankles and pulled them down.
A few moments later, the door to your en-suite bathroom opened and closed.
You opened your eyes and grinned triumphantly, giddy that you fooled your boyfriend. When the door closed again, you felt the bed dip at your feet.
A silky, soothing voice you knew a bit too well spoke. "You can stop pretending now, darling."
You didn't open your eyes and carried on the act.
"I know you aren't asleep." You opened your eyes, unable to keep the pout of your face. You released a breath you didn't realize you had been holding.

what are your thoughts on the hyuga siblings and their relationship
OOF now thats one of my favorite naruto dynamics lmao. i think neji and hinata have a very interesting relationship and i say that as someone who really didn't (and tbh still doesn't) love how that relationship developed in canon
i really like the hyuga fight in the chunin exams because the way it's perceived is sooo interesting to me.. neji comes off as an outright bully and i don't even blame the kids for calling him an asshole after all of that, but from reader's perspective it's really obvious that his animosity only exists because of a larger issue...
neji shouldn't treat hinata the way he does, but he does so because of her unique position as a scorned heir. she still benefits from everything that makes his life awful - her life is still valued more than his - but hiashi hates her enough that he won't care if neji dishes out verbal abuse on her. it's an awful dynamic and definitely contributes to hinata's terrible self-worth, but it's a symptom of the life they have been forced into by the man who the manga is intent on letting escape all of the blame for this situation lmao
(hiashi himself can be a really fascinating case honestly. i think he fully means everything he says, which is what makes him so grating but fun to me LOL. his apology to neji is entirely sincere AND it completely misses the point of all of the issues, but neji is young and deprived of acknowledgement enough that he accepts it wholeheartedly. hiashi thinks he's the best uncle of all time.)
hinata herself has so little belief in her own worth that she just sits there and takes whatever abuse people throw at her... i don't actually think neji's anger towards her was a constant - i think some people interpret it that way - rather i feel like it was something that came up whenever he was pushed too far. in more normal circumstances where he's not being made to fight her directly, he was likely more detached than anything. he wanted nothing to do with her.
in one of the filler mini arcs ive mentioned before (i think. the one that focuses on hanabi and hinata) there's a scene that rang very true to me (and im gonna recount this without rewatching it atm so sorry if i get details wrong,): neji was being made to train with hinata, asked to be allowed to leave because he felt his time was being wasted and correctly noted that it doesn't have to be him here, was told no by hiashi and then he started getting vicious and violent. towards hinata, of course, not hiashi. he then got horribly punished for it LOL i think that's the general dynamic they were living in, neji reaches a limit of disrespect that he can take and explodes on the nearest most acceptable target (we loove a boy with no emotional regulation <3), goes too far and suffers the consequence of it while nothing else changes. to him interacting with hinata at all is just asking for pain, either emotional or straight up physical
But, for hinata, she saw herself and neji as similar (the black sheep of the family i suppose), and would have liked to bond over that fact; theyve known each other since they were very little and she outright refers to him as a brother. it's clear to me she's always cared a lot about neji and imo feels responsible for what happened to his father (something that hiashi doesn't help with. Dad of the year), so she saw their match in the exams as a chance to close the distance between them and get neji to see her as a person, an equal instead of a symbol to lash out on.
but, you know, she was 12 LMAO so she ended up pressing all of his buttons instead and it led to his famous outburst, which led to the famous moment of Every Single Jonin (other than asuma.) coming to stop him and further cementing his belief that her life is seen as special. i think (and this is a mix of Shit I Made up, and Me trying to make sense of the manga's insane mishandling of their plotline) that despite her trying her hardest to reach neji she didn't really grasp the horror of his situation. that's the tragedy of neji's life really LMAO, no one really tries to grapple with the severity of what having that curse mark does to a person. she thought of his fatalism as more of a psychological, metaphorical way of dealing with hurt and not like... "my life literally does not belong to me no matter how much i try to fight it"

i think hiashi-hizashi were hoping that the cousins could have had a better relationship than they did... letting them hang out often and stuff, introducing them early, hizashi not discouraging neji from being friendly with her, to me it all reads as very "ok well this didn't work for Us, but what if it works out for them... even though literally nothing has changed". they were proper family once and hizashi wanted to die for his brother, not his leader, so that just makes sense to me.
i do nautttt like the naruto vs neji fight so to keep the post positive i will gloss over it <3 but hinata and neji's relationship post-chunin exams to me is peak like. God i wish this was done better because it could have been soooo good
neji realizes that his anger is consuming him and adjusts his behavior accordingly, getting a lot of his kindness back, and he becomes intent on fixing his relationship with hinata... i don't hate that premise at all, it's just the way it's executed that bothers me!
the impression i got (and i could be mistaken im in the process of rewatching the anime + rereading the manga) is that their relationship getting better is done exclusively through like. neji repenting for being mean to her. which, don't get me wrong, he SHOULD apologize (AND THAT WOULDVE BEEN A COOL THING TO SEE ONSCREEN, BTW) but you CANNOT divorce his behavior from the hyuga system in general. from the way they act after the exams you would think their issues were born solely from neji being a bully for no reason, and not, like... him lashing out on her because his uncle is literally the devil.
i don't think hinata has the power to change a lot in her clan on short notice (she did get disowned. did that un-happen offscreen? we will never know. Hiashi gets to be a grandfather to her children btw.) but i certainly would have liked to see her standing up for branch members and in the stuff i draw that's the story i have in mind LMAO. like, her gaining a deeper understanding of neji's situation and trying to work against her father trying to make her cousin's life better? i think that would have been really sweet and even show her gaining more confidence in herself and her beliefs. you can still have neji fussing over her and being protective because he feels bad for how they used to be, i actually really like that because neji IS a very sweet person, i just reject the idea that it's his sole Moral Obligation to put everything aside and make things better by the power of I Will Die For You Now, But This Time, For The Right Reasons

i think hanabi growing to resent her sister for the situation she's been put into (if hinata weren't 'weak' she wouldn't have so much responsibility) is very interesting! by the time we meet her i think she's learned that the best thing to do wrt her sister is to just ignore that she exists. as for neji he barely registers as a presence to her; neji has no reason to interact with her and hiashi has no reason to incentivize it. it's very fun to me!
in general i really like all of their dynamics can be used to explore how hurt and trauma drive people apart, i could talk about them for hourssss LMAO i love the suna family for the same reason!

Jokes are made about men being gay a lot in tv shows, especially ones in the 2010s, however, the ‘subtlety’ of these ones just show that they were made for queer people to pick up on. Or they are subtle clues that after S5, we are meant to look back on and laugh.

Also, I only really saw this as queer coding when I remembered that Will saying 'A day free of girls' is obviously queer coding as well, and that too is a little double meaning nod towards his sexuality. So why can't it be for Mike- *gunshots*

Bear in mind this is literally after the van scene where Jonathan sees Mike staring at Will in the rearview mirror from a third-party perspective (meaning from Will's pov he has no clue Mike has any feelings towards him).
I view this line, and really really 'random' ass way of writing what they're trying to figure out, as a joke about the fact that the audience (who are also a third-party perspective to the van scene) have no idea what the hell Mike is thinking. We still have no idea if he knows the painting is really from Will, but we know that Will is talking about himself. And from the way Mike looks at Will, the audience and Jonathan are conflicted because this whole time Mike's been with El ('straight... straight'), and Mike claims to have feelings towards her ('right on the money as i said').
But now it 'doesn't make sense'.

Character analysis of Engineer but I'm heavily assuming things:
Majority of people assume Engineer takes on a fatherly role for the team, and it makes sense! He calls people son and even cares for the Administrator when she's sick, he also heavily supports the team when they need it.
But the thing that people get wrong is that they think he's sane when I'd argue he's the MOST insane person on the team, and incredibly intimidating at that.
Medic can be easily assumed to be the most insane person on the team, he's obsessed with scientific progress, has the intelligence to think outside the box, and he's also strong when compared to the rest of the mercs physicality. But he also has moments where he clearly cares for everyone in his own way, he wouldn't have made the rest of the team invincible nor would he have played the long con with the classic mercs if he didn't care. He also doesn't have ANY taunt voice lines.
Pyro is also one of the more insane mercs; they're fully aware that they're killing people; why would they close the present box and just blow bubbles at it? Medic wouldn't see it happen and it doesn't make sense when put into Pyro's perspective.

But again, they don't have any voice lines that involve mocking someone, they also deeply care for the mercs AND despite how they're introduced, everyone knows they don't mean TOO much harm.
So with all of that out of the way, I'll get straight into the analysis. The reason why I claim Engineer to be the most insane and intimidating one is because of his voice lines and his introduction in meet the engineer.
At first we assume he's calm and chilled out because of the way he speaks, he's soft-spoken and doesn't yell as much as the rest of the mercs. But then there's moments like this, where he smiles when someone's arm is shot off by his sentry.

His voice lines also give way to just how intimidating he can be towards the team. At least with the rest of the team their taunts are for the most part tame/playful in a way that makes it seem like they're playing around, but with Engineer? You have lines like these:

Unlike Soldier who isn't fully aware of himself most of the time and kills because of his militaristic values, Engineer's arguably the one in the team who gets the MOST joy out of killing people (and is fully AWARE of it), he's a """loose""" cannon when compared to everyone else. Add his god complex and intelligence on top of that and if TF2 were a different genre, he'd be a terrifying slasher serial killer.
That isn't to say he doesn't care, he acts serious when it comes down to it:
Spy gets praise for trying to give everyone their last dream they wish to fulfill, but Engineer was the one who brought it up. Respectfully at that.
So while he gets the most joy out of killing, is intimidating, and has a severe god complex, he's also the most caring one and wants the best for everyone.
So no, he isn't the most sane merc, but he IS a """good""" man (I'm using good loosely since he's a serial killer). Although not as """good""" as Heavy when compared.

There is a gulf and an ocean of power between fellow characters of the same rarity, meaning a max rarity character might do absolutely fuck all while another one, with the same odds, might snap the game in two with ease. It's story is absolutely nothing to write home about. It's a setting that can be best described as "self-indulgent incel nice guy heaven", where your character is The Only One to be nice to all these poor second class citizen superpowered voluptuous supermodel living weapons with tits two times your head and asses big and heavy enough to easily crush cars. Everything jiggles. It's so insanely predatory with its flash sales after every little thing you do.
And yet, the basic story it tells, it tells well. It's fun. It's entertaining. It knows what it is, and it has fun with itself, but it doesn't throw all pretense, either. It walks the razor-edge thin line between having a goof and telling a story with emotional depth. What it doesn't have in complexity or originality, it makes up for in sheer moment-to-moment, with good scenes, with good execution of things we've already seen. The showdown with Modernia lives rent free in my mind, Commander loading the Vapaus round, as Modernia or Marian, no way of telling, begs them to put down the weapon, because she's already back to normal, Commander shooting, and Modernia catching it with her teeth, and then growling the most guttural threat with freshest purest fury: "You shot me. Your really shot me! Shikikan!" and then drilling Commander right through the chest. And everything that happens after in that scene. It's got interactions out the wazoo, both mundane and touching. It has music that goes from "background music that really works" to "handcrafted for the moment and the character in its excellence". I think it's because Nikke knows what it is, but doesn't reach the self-mockery rung of the ladder. It knows what it's doing, and it's still sincere about it, even if it dares have fun at its own expense sometimes.
So, with that on the table, the take on Cyberpsychosis present in Nikke is incredibly powerful as a narrative tool because it tells you just how much of a jury-rigged slapdash product Nikke are. They are not cutting edge technology, they are literally something they pumped out quick as can be while telling everyone in the world that's still alive that they are cutting edge technology. And all, all of the safeguards are ultimately subject to willpower and perspective. Some Nikke go insane if they are too machine-like. Snow White has basically rebuilt herself over and over hundreds of times in her forever war. Nikke cannot aim at humans, so Crow instead puts a steel plate on the ground and ricochets her bullets off of those to shoot Commander successfully. Aiming is something you do with your senses normally, right? Rose figured out that she can just wear a blindfold and convince herself that what she's slashing is not a human, but a Rapture, and that's how she disemboweled and killed her Commander. Just by not seeing and fervently believing.
It's really, really cool how they go about it.

And in the end, Bheem has his way. He falls, but he does not kneel. They break him, but they cannot be bend him. They can command him, threaten him, brutalize him, but they cannot subdue him. He is the tiger, he cannot be tamed.

You know what detail makes me go absolutely feral is interesting?
Bheem is not the one who kneels after the flogging.
RAM DOES!
RAM IS THE ONE WHO IS BROUGHT TO HIS KNEES AT THE END OF THE FLOGGING!!!
And I don't even mean this in a metaphorical sense (though that one is true as well)

Ram. Is. Physically. Kneeling. Beside. Bheem. I cannot stress this enough.
This is a KEY moment in the movie. It's a turning point.
We know that seeing the unarmed civilians rising up against the armed British forces in the wake of Bheem's defiance is what spurs Ram to finally, FINALLY arrive at his epiphany. His idea of what a revolution is and how it can be achieved is too narrow, too rigid, too costly. The sacrifices are too many and at what point will the ends justify the means?
But to change his viewpoint (again both literally and metaphorically), RAM HAS TO BEND FIRST! Once Ram bends, only then can he finally SEE!
And what is it that makes Ram bend? It's his LOVE FOR BHEEM! His love for Bheem changes him.
So these, that is, the shots where Ram is SEEING a revolution, an actual revolution in action, sparked by nothing more than Bheem's song and his indomitable spirit....

Compare this with Ram's introduction scene.
There is a revolution going on. People show up in front of a police station on the outskirts of Delhi to protest the arrest of Lala Lajpat Rai, a prominent Indian political figure, in Kolkata, armed with nothing more than torches, flags, and their righteous anger.

Ram watches the revolution. But he does not SEE it. He is so focused on his distant goal that he is blind to what is right in front of him. What is literally staring at him in the eye.

So, what does Ram do with his myopic worldview? He quashes the revolution. He stamps out the very thing he is fighting for. He breaks the spirit of the revolution, the spirit of the people, and he watches stone-faced as the protesters limp away, defeated. All because he cannot SEE the revolution for what it is.

So, with these two scenes in mind, we understand that this is not the first time Ram has witnessed a revolution. The people's uprising in the wake of Bheem's torture is nothing new to him. He has watched it all before, has actively participated in snuffing it out even.
Here, Ram STANDS tall, straight, rigid, focused, unbending.

The only factor that changes between these two scenes is the presence of Bheem..... and Ram's love for him. It's Ram's love for Bheem that bends his inflexible worldview. It's Ram's love for Bheem that makes him take a step back and actually see the true meaning of revolution. It's Ram's love for Bheem that shifts his perspective. It's Ram's love for Bheem that makes Ram willingly give up a 15 year long mission he has been toiling endlessly for.
Love is THE MOST powerful force in RRR. No amount of pain, grief, anger, heartbreak, trauma, brutality or violence can wipe it out. It is love that shines and love that emerges victorious. And after the flogging, Ram's love for Bheem is the most powerful driving force in his life, more powerful than a lifelong mission, more powerful than a promise made among tears and blood.
