Yue Yao (because I need to scream about her awesomeness and the dangers of retconning), Yue Qing, and How NOT to Write Women - A Rant(TM) about Dashing Youth & The Blood of Youth

Spoilers ahead for Dashing Youth and The Blood of Youth if you have not seen either live action drama, since we haven't gotten there in the donghua yet. You have been duly warned. Now come scream with me. I've been wanting to scream about this for a while.

Okay, what the hell??? Prefacing this again with the fact that I watched Dashing Youth before TBOY and I'm just...floored? Yue Yao was so interesting. She was up against some major political issues where the repercussions of her choices and the choices made by the people around her would impact and probably, most likely, cause the deaths of thousands. She was dealing with a missing father who, for all they knew, could have been dead, a clingy sister-turned-annoying-character-trope, the fate of her people, and also the fate of all of Beili and Beique (I mean, seriously, you want to talk about Yi Wenjun being at fault for instigating the three-way war between Nanjue, Tianwaitian, and Beili, AND SHE WASN'T ACTUALLY AT FAULT ASIDE FROM NOT COMMUNICATING WITH HER HUSBAND BEFORE MAKING A HUGE DECISION THAT WOULD IMPACT THEM ALL and leaving her infant son in the house BY HIMSELF, PLEASE Yue Yao would have been directly responsible for all the deaths resulting from any move she made), all the while trying to find a way to do what was best for everyone AND getting to know the prodigy and dumbass with a heart that was Baili Dongjun, whose grandfather Baili Luochen helped Beili in the war with Beique that resulted in her people being killed and displaced to the unforgiving north.

And oh, does she ever find a way. Baby girl decides to just DIY this whole shebang when she finds the natural-born martial arts prodigies with the special meridians or whatever the hell the drama said it was that set Baili Dongjun and Ye Dingzhi apart from alllll the other martial arts practitioners and just takes her sworn sister's identity, gets a makeover, and BAM joins the Jixia Academy...audition.

Not only that, but we see that she is more than her pretty clothes and her miss-fairy-in-a-carriage persona that we've seen up until this point in the drama. SHE CAN FIGHT! SHE CAN BEAT SOMEONE'S ASS! SHE CAN CHEAT AND GAMBLE! SHE STRAIGHT UP APPROACHES BAILI DONGJUN AND CHALLENGES HIM. SHE. APPROACHES. HIM. FIRST. Also it's really freakin' cute.

SHE STANDS UP FOR HERSELF AND HER TEAMMATES AND PROTECTS THEM. SHE SAVES BAILI DONGJUN'S TAIL. SHE'S GOT HER OWN WAY OF THINKING AND SHE'S FUNNY AS HELL. SHE SLAPS HIM CLEAN ACROSS THE FACE FOR GOING TO A BROTHEL.

We see her enter Jixia Academy, we see her train under Liu Yue (which I am still salty about because we could have used a lot more scenes of her and Liu Yue training and just being master/apprentice, see her having a hard time with really just using Liu Yue to stay near Baili Dongjun for her own/Beique's ends, especially with Liu Yue declaring that he doesn't care about her true identity, just that she is now his apprentice and that means that he's always on her side please Liu Yue was the best and he got fking nuked at the end, even if he got to retire from jianghu with Mo Xiaohei lol), WE SEE HER STRUGGLE. This entire time, Yue Yao is absolutely torn between a) doing what is best for her people, b) doing what is best for everyone and not causing the deaths of thousands, and c) not falling for the guy whose grandfather is a war hero because he killed her people.

Also the fact that this dumbass she is falling in love with has been pining after her miss-fairy-in-a-carriage persona for so long he has no clue she's right in front of him. Good job, Dongjun /pat pat

Let's play this out.

If Yue Yao a) does what is best for her people, which everyone thinks is reclaiming Beili, a warmer and far more fertile land, and creating better lives for themselves, that would incite another war and cause many, many deaths. Also, there's a very, very high possibility that Beique might lose anyway!

If Yue Yao b) does what is best for everyone and not cause another war and the deaths of thousands, she is condemning her own people to a harsh life in the cold, icy, desolate north.

If Yue Yao c) falls for the guy whose grandfather is a war hero because he killed her people, she will be seen as a traitor and will be turned on because they'll think she turned on them first, especially since she is basically their princess.

What's a girl to do.

SHE FREAKIN' OWNS UP TO IT AND COMES CLEAN with Baili Dongjun and her followers, Mo Qixuan and Zi Yuji. She does not lie to them and is up front about her vision and what she wants to do for her people and for herself, because they don't have to be mutually exclusive things. She follows her heart; she knows that while she wants a better life for her people, it cannot be found in a new war with Beili to settle old grudges and claim old land. She wants to find a new home for them.

Yue 👏 Yao 👏 is 👏 so 👏 great.

...Only for all of that buildup in the first half of the drama to go absolutely nowhere as her vision is never recognized. She returns to Tianwaitian only to be locked up for betraying Beique with zero timeline as to how long she was locked up for and how she actually got out of the cage. There were no repercussions for her escaping or leaving. In fact, as soon as she leaves Tianwaitian, Yue Yao's character basically stops caring for Beique, and she literally did not matter to the plot going forward. Her people in Tianwaitian never find a better home for themselves. They never get to leave the far north, never reclaim their old kingdom, and never get to rebuild, even before Ye Dingzhi establishes the Demon Sect. Ergo, even if we disregard the events of TBOY, Yue Yao still doesn't get to help her people and all of that development was useless.

Instead, after all that talk about wanting to find a better home and do better by her people, after all the character development and establishment, after all the scenes where we get to see that Yue Yao has a backbone and the fighting skills to prove it, she ends up as arm candy for Baili Dongjun for the next like seven years while the two of them remained unmarried. Um??????????

Why build up all that character and her skills and her relationships with Liu Yue, Baili Dongjun, her freakin' sister, and Mo Qixuan/Zi Yuji only for all of them to basically go kaput? Even with Baili Dongjun, most of the time, she's...just there. Just...looking pretty. Not doing anything.

No one waits seven years to get married, especially when they're in such close quarters like Yue Yao and Baili Dongjun were pre-war and during the war. This makes zero sense, and honestly just cheapens their already-sad relationship even more because it shows a lack of respect on his part. There's no denying that he does love her, but the respect, which is based off of the values of the people in their time, is not there, whether for her honor, virtue, or just the progression of their relationship. Seven years is a long time, especially in period Chinese dramas (and reality, back in those times) when two people are hanging out in an established relationship.

Yue Yao is displeased.

And then we come to the problem of her sister, Yue Qing, who has decided to play a self-insert victim and villain, somehow both at the same time by not actually being relevant to the plot and generally not actually being good at anything at all.

Her motivation: Yue Yao is her older sister, the one she has always looked up to, and she sucks at being the eldest princess and has essentially abandoned them to chase after the sweet, sweet tail that is Neo Hou in a period drama. Ergo, Yue Qing needs to leave Beique to find the other special person martial arts prodigy, Ye Dingzhi, and homegirl does her best to manipulate the hell out of this poor, traumatized kid in order to get him back to Beique and free her father so that they can march on Beili and reclaim their kingdom. He sees right through her though, and because there is no way in the eighteen levels of hell she can beat him in a fight, and she tries, she goes back to his doorway like a kicked puppy every time he throws her out because it's clear she has no idea what on earth she's doing except that she thinks she's all that and has every reason to condemn thousands of people to their deaths so that she can incite a new war for a better life for the people of Tianwaitian.

In the same way that Yue Yao was SO great in the first half of Dashing Youth, we do not give two shakes about Yue Qing and how she is barely even relevant to the plot, because if you stuck Mo Qixuan or Zi Yuji in there to manipulate this poor bastard, the result would have ended up the same way and she does not impact the story whatsoever.

And then Ye Dingzhi saves Yue Qing's life, and all of a sudden, she understands why her sister decided to go with Baili Dongjun instead of staying in Beique, according to the story lore. It also doesn't hurt that he's pretty and he's feeding her medicine and didn't just...let her die.

PFFFFFFFFFFT HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Yue Qing, the bar is on the floor. Also girl, you manipulated him and used him and he does not care for or about you. In fact, the only reason he saved your life was because he lashed out at you and almost killed you and felt guilty for it before he proceeded to throw you out again.

Because Ye Dingzhi is untouchable at this point, Yue Qing proceeds to then manipulate his wife, Yi Wenjun (which is another convoluted story point because she's already married and is a secondary consort to Xiao Ruojin who is an absolute monster in the actual worst way, which is why I did not feel a lick of empathy or sympathy for him in TBOY--I mean, he put her under using some drugs and it was HEAVILY IMPLIED that he gr@ped her while she was completely unconscious and everyone just kind of breezes over this plot point in the dramas), and sends her back to Tianqi by spreading false news of Xiao Yu being really, really sick (causing problems even at a young age, I see). Because of this, Ye Dingzhi is then manipulated into going to Beique to free Yue Qing and Yue Yao's father so that he can be number one in the world and take his wife back, blahhhh blah blah.

AND THEN THEIR FATHER DIES after a confrontation between him, Baili Dongjun, and Ye Dingzhi, and it's almost like Yue Qing and Yue Yao are pitting their respective special martial arts person against each other because they're both natural-born wumai which is NOT actually a thing, and I don't even understand what it is and do not care to actually translate this; IT'S SUPER DUMB.

And because the official leader of Beique, Yue Yao and Yue Qing's father, dies, Ye Dingzhi goes full demon mode and takes over the people of Tianwaitian and establishes the Demon Sect by uniting all 30-something sects in the outer regions of Beili, which was supposedly impossible until this point. He then begins the infamous three-way war between Beili, Nanjue, and Tianwaitian which Yi Wenjun then gets blamed for instigating.

UMMMM??? DOES THIS NOT SOUND FAMILIAR??? DO WE NOT ALSO KNOW OF A WOMAN WHO WAS SAID TO BE SO BEAUTIFUL THAT MEN WENT TO WAR FOR HER AND LAID SIEGE TO AN ENTIRE FREAKIN' CITY WHICH IS NOW A FAMOUS TRAGEDY? DID THE DIRECTORS OF THIS DRAMA WANT A CDRAMA VERSION?

(in case anyone is lost, the answer is Troy. It's Helen of Troy.)

Also, RUDE that her "instigating" this war is what she is known for, even in The Blood of Youth. Yi Wenjun gets blamed for this massive, awful historical event when the only thing she did was be manipulated by Yue Qing using her child. Like, what on earth /eye roll

It was also never talked about how she was coerced into this marriage by her father in TBOY (which we find out in DY) and that this was never something she wanted anyway. Also the gr@pe because that was completely unnecessary and again, breezed over by every single character in Dashing Youth, which, also, WHY did it have to happen that way? Xiao Yu's existence in TBOY could literally be explained by "marital duties" or "wedding night" or something even if the spouses hated each other, did y'all really have to sink to gr@pe????? Especially since I watch dramas for escapism and fantasy and not historical accuracy because of course this has happened probably many times over the course of history. I am angry.

We find out later that Yue Qing is locked up by Ye Dingzhi and then just dies via suicide in prison at the end of the three-way war while Yue Yao rides off into the sunset with Baili Dongjun in her fairy carriage, intent on marrying her at last after SEVEN AND A HALF YEARS TOGETHER, YES I DID THE FREAKING MATH (let me know if anyone needs an approximate timeline).

Following this trainwreck and what Dashing Youth has established, we get to the canon in The Blood of Youth, which takes place twelve years after the prequel. Now that the twelve-year pact between Tianwaitian and Beili where Ye Anshi, the son of Ye Dingzhi and Yi Wenjun, is a hostage in Beili is over, the story picks up where we see our heroes in the following places:

Baili Dongjun: Master of Xueyue City and a depressed drunk after (we learn later) mistakenly killing his wife because he was manipulated into doing so, making this the biggest regret of his life

Yue Yao: dead. Was dead before Tang Lian stepped foot into Xueyue City, and was dead because someone manipulated Baili Dongjun into thinking Yue Yao was Yue Qing and he kills her.

...wait what? But...but I thought Yue Qing died in the prison even before Baili Dongjun and Yue Yao got married in canon? I think we're told in TBOY that Yue Yao blocked an attack for her sister or died for her sister or something via her husband attacking her thinking she was her sister or I DON'T KNOW it's not really clear. The point is, the events of both dramas can't both be true or canon at the same time.

Aaaaaand we've hit one of the biggest retcon snags between the two dramas. Shifting the focus over to the problem with retcons, my first question is this: DY directors and producers, you guys had the perfect template and formula since The Blood of Youth exists and had such incredible ratings. Y'all already have a world and a story and storyline and characters to work with and are able to entirely and completely plan ahead. How did y'all come up with this dumpster fire???? And it's not even a good dumpster fire?? How could Yue Qing cause Yue Yao's death, which we are told is what happens in Baili Dongjun's dream in TBOY, if she's dead??

Other honorable problematic retcon mentions:

There's a specific voiceover at the end of DY telling us what happened to the main characters at the end of the war, and though in TBOY the story said that Lei Mengsha died fighting against Nanjue, we are shown that he and Xiao Ruofeng are both fine and victorious. WHAT???

In TBOY, we are told by Li Suwang of the Sword Heart Tomb that his daughter, Li Xinyue first met Lei Mengsha at the Sword Heart Tomb when he and his buddy his pal Baili Dongjun stopped by and convinced her to duel and then roam jianghu with them. We see that at the beginning of Dashing Youth, Lei Mengsha actually meets Baili Dongjun a LOT later in the narrative, and by then, Li Hanyi is already about five years old and Lei Mengsha and Li Xinyue have been married for A While.

Yin Luoxia and Yue Yao are shown to be sworn sisters who met and became extremely close even before the events of DY, even closer than Yue Qing and Yue Yao at their absolute tightest. Luoxia lives in Xueyue City in TBOY. She knows Baili Dongjun personally. THEY DID NOT INTERACT. SHE DIDN'T EVEN TALK ABOUT YUE YAO ONCE IN ALL THE SCREENTIME THAT SHE HAD.

Sikong Changfeng says in TBOY that Li Hanyi is four years younger than him, but started studying under their master first and this is also why she is the Second City Master and he is the Third. This is only half true; while Li Changsheng took Li Hanyi in as an apprentice, she was literally like five or six at the time. Nangong Chunshui then proceeded to take on Sikong Changfeng not long after, but Sikong Changfeng by then was already a teenager headed into his adult years. Like, he's at least eighteen when Dashing Youth starts.

Speaking of Sikong Changfeng, TBOY says that the healer Hua Jin is his shimei, his younger martial sister from their master, the number one healer in the world, Xin Baicao. DY shows us that they met the one time where Xin Baicao was told by Baili Dongjun's uncle (who was a top poison user and the two of them got into competitions all the time wink wink cough cough) to save Sikong Changfeng's life. Sikong Changfeng stayed in the Medicine Valley for something like six months, all the while studiously not learning medicine from Xin Baicao and instead focuses on his spearwork and fighting skills. Also, Hua Jin isn't in DY at all.

This one is less of a retcon issue and more of a gripe, Baili Dongjun was literal childhood friends and best buds with Ye Dingzhi. Wuxin/Ye Anshi would literally be the equivalent of his nephew/godson. Do we get to see them interact at all aside from like 5 seconds in DY???? No. We do not. WE WERE CHEATED.

Another gripe, Sikong Changfeng and Baili Dongjun were bros in Dashing Youth, and have been for many years (according to my math, it's 21 years between the beginning of Dashing Youth and The Blood of Youth) and did we get to see them actually interact in TBOY??? NO.

Oh, with all this talk of Sikong Changfeng, another gripe about HOW TO NOT WRITE WOMEN--Feng Qiuyu (who is she, you may ask???).

She is, my friends, the mother of Sikong Qianluo.

BUT DO WE REALLY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HER? No. WE BARELY REMEMBER HER NAME. SHE WAS LITERALLY WRITTEN INTO DASHING YOUTH SO THAT SIKONG CHANGFENG COULD MEET HER AND SIKONG QIANLUO COULD BE BORN. SHE WAS ON SCREEN FOR A MAX OF 5 MINUTES DURING THE DRAMA AND WAS NEVER REALLY SEEN OR TALKED ABOUT AGAIN EXCEPT FOR LIKE A MINUTE AT THE END. WE DON'T EVEN HAVE THE COURTESY OF KNOWING SHE DIED BEFORE TBOY; WE HAVE TO PUT IT TOGETHER USING CONTEXT CLUES.

I AM YELLING.

Man, I started this rant really just wanting to talk about how best girl Yue Yao was done super dirty by the producers/writers of DY, but the more I thought about it and analyzed and wrote it all down, the more I got to the underlying issue of just the less-than-lackluster way this already-awfully-written drama treated their women, the angrier I got.

All this to say, Dashing Youth does not write or treat their women very well and that, my dears, is bullshit.

I wish so genuinely more people knew about your treatment regarding the WC map community. Like you have given these projects that were not yours time, effort, and art but repeatedly get shot in the foot for it because "drama"

It's not Drama, it's a map host being spineless, or being a bigot themselves. YOU should be credited for those storyboards because YOU made them and they were used, regardless of what anyone thinks, end of story. I genuinely think you should push this issue because it's been a big one in the map community.

As a whole, maps are treated more like a business or company, where their workers are payed in "exposure", and the bosses can fuck over anyone they'd like for any reason. The map community will crash and burn soon because artist and participants are sick of the abuse and the constant pressure put on them over something that should've been a non-stressful little side project.

I'm sorry to rant, I just really wish people were more informed and stood with the artist when this shit happens.

thanks for the support anon, it means alot :) generally i’m just going to retreat from the warrior cats map space because of the toxicity that surrounds it. i don’t believe the treatment i’ve received to be warranted but i don’t really wanna kick too much of a fuss up about it and just cause more commotion.

i think i’ll join non-wc related maps occasionally but i can’t confirm anything, maps in general have really drained my creative output. i feel like they could be great if the community around them focused more on uplifting artists than stealing their work for ‘edits’ or glamorising the host over the participants.

if it does implode though, i won’t pretend i’m not watching from the sidelines with one of those drinks that have an umbrella in it.

ultimately, i’ve had some lovely experiences in the wc map community but just not enough to outweigh the harassment, callouts and crunch i’ve needed to experience to stay in the community. it was fun(?) while it lasted, but i need to move on- for my own health.

i can do nothing but wish good things on all the members of the community while still retaining feelings of bitterness that i feel are warranted.

Hello 🤗, I’ve kind been following your project for months now and I have to say I’m glad people are still acknowledging Egyptian Mythology. I know it doesn’t really have all the drama and pizzaz I suppose Greek or Roman mythos does which is why people like it more, however I find your work refreshing because it seems like you actually care about Egyptian Mythos. I’ve been obsessed with it for years and I’ve even done my own research over the years myself and could never fully understood why people didn’t care for it as much. Even after watching Hollywood Blockbuster films like “Gods of Egypt” the movie frustrated me in so many ways but the biggest one being that it felt like a knockoff of Clash of the Titans. So I’m done with my little rant but I was curious on what sparked your interest in making this project? How often are you taking creative liberties with your story? Also how do you come up with such creative designs for your characters will also keeping the historical consistency of Ancient Egypt?

So, first of all, thank you so much for your kind words, they really made my day!

Second of all, let me reply to all of your questions in order so I don't forget anything lol

Ok so, as for what sparked my interest in making this project, It all started with me playing a mythology-themed video game called Dislyte. I've always been into Egyptian Mythology since I can remember, but when I was a kid, things were a bit different from now and I didn't have access to the Internet as I have now as my father would set up a limited screen time for me and my sister on the computer, and also at that time, I just didn't know how to research things properly lol. So, nostalgia led me to explore new and old media about Egyptian mythology and do some proper academic research to get to know the main and minor myths better. During this "research phase" I discovered the Korean manhwa Ennead, which inspired me and my character designs a lot. Afterwards, as I realized how little material exists about this mythology in particular, I decided to create something myself that could help fill that gap, something that could bring people together and spark their interest so that I could have someone to talk to about Egyptian Mythology lmaooo. But also, I always wanted to work on an original comic series and so I thought that this could have been the best time to start! And so, House of the Sun was born!

Now, talking about artistic liberty, it really depends on the comic we're talking about. In Thoth's Library, I try to be as accurate as possible to the actual myths, only taking some artistic liberty when I need to link some facts that would otherwise sound a bit random and incohesive to the narration, adding some motivations and sub-plots to link all the stories together while trying to stay true to the original sources. Although, this might change in some future arcs. In Young Horus, although some connections are accurate, I decided to fill all the gaps I could with an original coming-of-age story for Horus the Younger to create something new and have fun with it, so the majority of the things happening in the comic are purely fictional. Of course, I always make sure to put a disclaimer for that in every episode just in case ahahah

As for the inspiration behind the character designs, I wanted to create something very personal and somewhat accurate in terms of clothing and overall presentation without including those classic elements we all know, like the animal heads or masks we often see in other media. I was especially inspired by something I noticed in Ancient Egyptian art, like the fact that some gods like Ra have both a human and animal form, and so I was like, you know what? I'm leaving the animal iconography to other contexts, I'm going full human this time lmao. Well, kind of, since I still wanted to include some animal traits that are very iconic to Egyptian art, like the tails (often used in classic Egyptian iconography to depict power and royalty), the ears and sometimes the paws too because, why not? 😂

Originally you had been Zoe’s project for class, pulled from the ‘normal’ world, which is how you found yourself awkwardly standing in her room in an apron and half-made Mac & Cheese in your hands.

Absolutely no time to acclimatise, Zoe not helping at all when she jumped into your personal space and fired off question after question at you.

You were more confused then anything, especially since most of her question were all about your worlds ‘shipping culture’.

Was downright horrified when you didn’t know even half of the things she was spouting at you.

“We are fixing this right now! I can’t have a project that doesn’t understand the art of shipping! It’s like if Sasuke didn’t kiss Naruto! It doesn’t not happen! It’s a canon event!”

You couldn’t fight back even if you tried, her tentacle was surprisingly strong despite its squishy texture, the purple girl dragging you out of her house (that, for its occupant, looked absolutely average) while at the same time trying to ‘drill the basics of shipping into your sad sad little mind’.

And that’s how your time in Spooky High started.

Sure, at first it’s was a little scary and worrying…but you very quickly realised that this worlds logic ran on bullshit and literal pixie dust. Though that just might be the nose candies Polly snuck into your food.

Zoe was your unofficial official source of information for shipping and handling of fanfiction!

Or ‘SOIFSAHOF’ as she called it.

You didn’t even know something could have that many syllables the way she says it.

Or maybe she just sneezed, who knows.

She had you sit down and watch anime with her, read horribly translated manga, and critically judged your own fanfiction if you deigned to share it with her.

(That’s a lie, she constantly praises your work even if it’s shoddy, anything for another connoisseur of the arts!…right?)

Eventually the, rather intense, workshop of questions, anime, shenanigans and drama dwindled down ever so slightly.

And during this down time you realised that you’ve been here nearly two plus months now.

Waaaay past the deadline of her project.

Which is why you’re a little confused when a few weeks later she was, VERY, hysterical and complaining as she all but jumped onto you. Her problem was about having apparently gotten a B+ on her Interspecies and Dimensional Anomaly Class.

Her teacher was apparently very happy with her assignment, and the fact she had written down so much about normal humans.

(Zoe just had you write down your basic day to day life.)

But you were confused by her antics because thats a decent grade right? B+ is better than nothing.

You weren’t expecting her face when you turned back to look at her.

“Are you insane? You NEED to be just average in school, if you stand out too much then you’ll be unobtainable! How am I supposed to find ‘The One’ if they think I’m too good for them?! Our OTP needs to flourish!”

So Nick, well a lot of people speculate that the crap he's doing is staged and blah blah. Here's my beef, even if it was, why the hell would he do it? He's literally diminishing his health for money and views because he needs those clicks.

The reason I bring it up is because idk, I just have a gut feeling that maybe Viv is starting drama and this other crap so she gets the attention. She wants people to go click on her videos and get her the views. I even remember hearing how page views on a website someone operates can get them some extra cash too. She wants us to go look at her merch so she can get the views.

Now, the thing with Nick. I think Nick is very mentally ill. Why? Because he's been to the doctor for issues he's had for gaining weight. Even if that stuff is an act, just why? There was an video nick made that was called I think "Orlin ran away" and in this video nick drove places and found pictures Orlin drew for him. Honestly, some were so well done I was very impressed with Orlin's art skills and if they got someone to draw those they need a round of applause since I laughed. Why is he trying to troll his audience? He keeps saying they break up, orlin cheats, and the most dumbest things that I roll my eyes to the back of my head. Nick is so good at feeding his audience literally. He knows people won't turn away and will continue watching.

That's why I'm comparing him to Viv, but Nick is so much smarter than her. Nick knows the right buttons to push while Viv is running in the dark. She's in Japan right now, and yes she's documenting it like sharing pictures of where she goes, and she still makes the time to get into internet fights.

Ok sorry for ranting. I just feel like Viv is trying to troll and make people watch her more so she can literally monetize the attention.

As plausible as that seems, I don't think Vivzie's anywhere near clever or forward thinking enough to put on the kind of prolonged act Nick Avocado does. If you look back as far as her Deviantart days, you realize pretty quickly that this is who she's always been, with hauntingly little growth or change.

I think the biggest common denominator between Nick and Vivzie is that they're both addicts. Someone once said that Nick has an "addiction to food, views and meaning," and I think that's true for Vivzie too. More than the cash, maybe even more than the fame, she needs her fandom to assure her that she's as great as she believes she is and that nothing is her fault.

Nick's slowly killing himself for his audience. Vivzie needs to know that these people would praise her even if she killed someone else.

Meta Liberation Army Fandom Drama

There's no safe word in the Kharmii dungeon today, so expect to get it raw and hard with a touch of the 'tism. Someone once told me -might have been @feldkommandant that Asian fans generally keep to themselves because they don't want to deal with Western world fandom drama. I just experienced the worst example of that in action. It's the reason I wrote this post about stuffy old ideologue fangusfungus throwing out a DAMN FUNDIES!!1!1!!! rant.

-So I was a happy lurker watching a bunch of Paranormal Liberation Front fans participate in this Strawpage thing, which appears to be a site where artists crank out quick gift art in the form of loose sketches. It's not something I'd ever participate in because it takes me forever to finish anything. A couple of Asian artists were invited to participate, and they pretty much right away became victims of antishipper ire. They were so rattled that one artist might have set their page to private, and another deleted all their shippy art, even if it was as innocuous as hand-holding.

Side note: This is all speculation btw. I'm an observer trying to make sense of it.

-So Fungs did their rant, and I posted something on their page that they promptly deleted but then reposted as a cap:

Also, there are two reasons why it was completely absurd of this person to assume I was to blame.

1.) I'm not a sniveling cowardly rat-faced leftist twat who tittle tattles over petty bs. All those people are supposedly over on Bluesky, LOL!

2.) It would be counterproductive of me to harass Asian artists into going incognito when the whole point of my blog is to obsess over stupid crap and then post related artwork constantly. Right now, I've got the MLA in an iron fist and don't plan on letting go for a very long time.

One of the artists who went private made a 48-page labor of love devoted solely to the underutilized character Trumpet. I'm confused about why antis would target them, but those people are fckn nuts, so who knows?

They were the artist who did this btw, the illustration book about Trumpet AKA 'Cunty Flowergarden'.

The other targeted artist might have offended the crazies doing ReDestro x Shigaraki, which is like a 50/20 ship (my best guess), but it's not as if minors were involved. I'm sad I didn't save more of their work on my computer. All I have is this:

After putting Trumpet through the wringer, I have an idea for a sequel (not really, this is my muse being a smartass). One of the advisors in Skeptic's Carmine Regiment has a brain reprogramming quirk. While they have Trumpet strapped down to a chair with his eyelids taped open, ReDestro tells them, "Make sure he never questions Meta Liberation Army ideology again. Also, make him think we are a couple, and that he blows me under my desk on demand."

Next thing you know, my guy is walking around with a perpetually vacant smile on his face saying stuff in a hypnotic tone like, "Hail ReDestro! Meta Liberation Army until I die!" The above artwork is the new and improved Trumpet.

Anyway, I thought me and Fungs were on the same page. He also did a trans Shig AU. I almost made Shigs trans in Trumpet's Trauma, but that would have crossed a line into being too gross. If I'm going to spend my valuable time writing a 10+K word gooner fic, it can't be too gross. It has to be something I'd want to read if someone else wrote it.

ReD is acting like the proper bootlicker, but he's hard pressed to keep that phony act up. He's sort of wishing he let Shig kill him the day he lost his legs, but he has one of those 'Do It For Him' pictures on his desk with adorable photos of Geten taped to it.

1.) Christofascism isn't a thing in fandom because 100% of antis are emotionally immature minors or twenty-somethings who most certainly will have 'pro Palestine' in their profiles with all their stupid pronouns listed.

2.) Damn right I'm straight! I might be a twisted degenerate perv who writes fan fic of guys getting shellacked by other guys, but that doesn't mean I should be lumped in with the sorts of people who spread Monkeypox in rest stop bathrooms or who walk weirdos in dog masks around on leashes.

Side note: Do Asian women feel the same way? -Like do women into fujoshi culture consider themselves 100% straight but just like to see cartoon boys being cute?

3.) I'm def not a 'terf' because that stands for 'trans excluding radical feminist'. I'm in no way aligned with radical feminism. That 'christofascism' shpeal is bigoted also. It's normal to want to preserve Christian values in countries built on foundations of Christian values. When Muslims go into a country and for real VIOLENTLY force their values on people, nobody is allowed to call them out on it.

4.) This person went private for a few hours because they were supposedly afraid I'd harass them and their friends. That means they must think I'm the kind of psychopath who'd stew on some drama for like a second, then be like, "Oh look, A SHINY!" *runs off* "WHEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!"

Come to think of it, I head canon ReDestro as being that sort of villain, like if he was pissed at you and didn't break your spine in half in the first five minutes, then he'd get distracted and wander off. He's a busy man, after all.

Anyway, that artist was better years ago when they drew more attractive characters with visually appealing fetishses, but lately they've descended into fat, transgender neckbeard pron. It's like the cartoon version of this:

There's no comparing to the pretty ones because they all look like that. Most look like that...but werewolf bullshit. Fungs was making Trumpet look like that. Let's detrans the Trumpet. Seriously, the guy is a solid mesomorph build who probably stands a hair over six feet tall.

if there's one thing i've noticed about her newest videos, it's that she's spending her time slinging her vitriol at fandom. before it seemed like she would critique things in a show but now it seems more like she's ranting about how fandom reacts to things (like catradora or hunter or whatever else).

honestly that is the least interesting direction she could take with her videos. fandom drama is fickle and impotent. it affects a property so little, and there are so many voices that trying to address them leads to content like lily's: rambling and without a solid conclusion.

and yeah, creators these days may be more fandom savvy but they don't delve deep into it, so her argument of "oh fandom does affect show quality" is absolutely false. her videos are completely impenetrable for people who aren't as chronically online as her. i don't think it occurs to her that people can just watch a thing and not engage with fandom at all. and if a fandom has a white favoritism problem (see her TOH rants) then it's not important if the show itself actually puts in the time to push representation forward.

she can complain about how toxic and anti-criticism fandom is, but if you're outside of that fandom, none of this matters to you. you don't have to be in a fandom to like things. you don't have to care what the fandom thinks. but lily does. really, she needs to let go and stop talking about this shit.

there are some channels that do dedicate themselves to fandom culture but the thing is... those channels are made by people who love fandom, who get invested on the cultures and communities around fandom so it makes sense that they'd love to talk about it.

LO seems to view fandom in the exact same way that she views art in general: just a little market to take things from. with maybe the only difference being that she always expect from fandom to give her the right kind of attention, the right kind of praise, and while insisting on try to dennounce the evils of fandoms she also doesn't do anything to try any of them.

anyway, i’ve been lurking in this community for a while (mostly because i’d rather not get involved in drama and just watch from afar) and overall i think the only issues i have with people in the proship side is how it’s mostly made up of minors and how they often treat crewdela more like fictional characters than the actual fictional characters themselves. you guys can ship mark and cesar all you want, why do you have to ship alex and andrew too?? ik RPF is a thing but i feel like theres a difference between shipping celebrities with each other and shipping some white boy who makes spooky videos with his best friend (maybe thats just me tho idk)

No, I pretty much agree.

To start, yeah, there's a huge issue with this side of the community being overrun by minors. To be honest, that's the case with the entire fandom, so it just sort of bleeds into every aspect of it. But the minors on our side of it can just be plain disrespectful.

Several have lied about their age to talk to me directly or even join my 18+ only discord server. A lot of them get really pissy when you point out that 18+ means 18+, and that someone under 18 doesn't belong in the 18+ side of the community.

I'm neutral on RPF, there are ways that people go about it that doesn't inherently bother me, but things that do bother me is when they start actually treating the crew like they are high-profile celebs, as you said. Someone drawing art of them is a little weird, I can't say I like it, but it's... whatever, I guess.

What does distress me though is the fact that now there are kids on Twitter posting photos of Alex and Andrew that they had to dig for because those pictures weren't meant to be spread publicly by randos on Twitter. It's super weird and invasive. They're literally just... guys. 19-year-old guys who became popular practically overnight. If you want to ship the characters or make smutty art/fic of those characters then by all means, but it would be nice if people would have some decorum when it comes to real people.

Hell, one of the minors who lied about their age to access adult accounts on Twitter is also responsible for a catastrophically shitty callout post on Alex that leaked tons of tweets from his private account that had nothing to do with the situation at hand, including several tweets where he is clearly struggling with his mental health. There is absolutely no reason why those tweets in particular needed to be exposed, and the only reason why you'd screenshot such a tweet is to use it to hurt someone.

To make a long fuckin story short: The TMC fandom is largely made up of minors, and regardless of whether they're on the proship side or the anti side, they've made a distasteful habit of being disrespectful little shits.

I am just becoming more and more upset of the recent trends regarding writing POC and depicting them in art and story. Moreso the reactions while invalidating their realities. It goes completely against why I love telling stories and writing/designing the characters for them to begin with.

For specifics, I'm talking more about the reactions against Pri. mos and Eleme. ntal.

I'm mostly getting tired of the takeaway of the drama surrounding them as "don't write anymore POC or you get it wrong" and "We are tired of watching movies about the writers/directors' experiences". That is NOT, at ALL, what should be taken away at ALL by any and all creatives, especially POC. The reason why Primos and Elemental isn't doing so good is because of 1.) Disney ignoring actual POC about what they would like to see more of in their content and 2.) Elemental refusing to take risks of the storytelling and "playing it safe" so it would be "relatable" and "marketable". The backlash against Primos' VA is totally valid (and GOD she pisses me off), but the one made against Elemental's director is not. It saddens me when one shares about their experiences and the response is "seen it all" instead of "I get this!" when it's presentation's priority is in the marketability rather than how real the story should be. And I am sick of the bad takeaways, especially as it discourages young creatives to try to write their own stories.

And I'm tired of it. I'm so sick and tired of it. How are we to improve as a community if we are policing people for being creative at ALL rather than focus on the real reason certain media is failing? It's one thing to write a culture incorrectly, it's another to say "your experiences are invalid". I hate it. Stop it. Please stop. You are causing more harm than good to the writing/art community with this mentality.

At this rate, having something be 'marketable' should be your SECONDARY or TERTIARY goal rather than your PRIMARY. It's good to do something you love to pay the bills. But for goodness' sakes, stop worrying about pleasing everybody. Pick and choose your battles, then give the middle finger to those you can't please. Just be mindful of WHO you're giving the middle finger to and WHY.

Network-The one with the “mad as hell” and “you will atone” rants! Everything about this one just kind of broke me, especially as some one who’s going into broadcasting/media herself. Back then, it was a satire, but now it’s practically a documentary; everyone was amazing, and the story had no trouble keeping me entertained. My only gripes were a couple of scenes that reminded me of the more…interesting scenes in Annie Hall that didn’t age well. I highly, highly recommend renting this one! You will not be disappointed; top 5 movies that I saw in this class for sure.

Apocalypse Now-The one with “the horror”; this one also broke me, but not in a good way. This 3 hour long half-action film half-snuff film goes out of its way to brutalize you with the horrors of the Vietnam war and war in general, and it’s something else, alright. I’m not going to get political, but this thing makes me hate war and needless conflict more than I already do. I would never watch this thing again, at least not for fun. However, if you’re interested, I watched the theatrical cut, so check it out if war films are your thing. TW for violence and an animal killing on screen towards the end, though: This movie pulls no punches.

Crimes and Misdemeanors-The one where a guy orders a killing and has an existential crisis about it until he suddenly doesn’t…yeah, this is the Woody Allen one. My feelings are more conflicted about this one compared to the other one of his we watched; on one hand, both of the stories it presents are compelling and compliment each other. One is the drama and the other the comic relief, with the lead of each meeting during the ending in a moment that genuinely felt like a superhero crossover for me and a lot of other people in the class; however, the transitions between them aren’t exactly smooth, leading to frequent whiplash. The aforementioned existential crisis is very well done, though. I’m a sucker for jazz, so the music choice was stellar, and the comedy was pretty good but a few jokes did not age well.

If you’re even vaguely interested in watching this thing I will link you to a YT playlist of it in 15 parts-please do NOT, under any circumstance, support this man by renting it and giving him your money. All in all, though, it was alright! Definitely not as good as Annie, though.

Everything Everywhere All At Once (we were supposed to watch Schindler’s List but we didn’t)-The one I won’t shut up about 😅. Third time’s the charm with this one; what can I say about it that I can fit in three sentences and hasn’t been said already? Every single actor is remarkable, the special effects are amazing and throughly believable for being made by a team of seven, the story is wacky, raunchy, and goes to a million different places, but it’s also a story about a mother and a daughter. Jobu is one of the best antagonists I’ve seen since I first discovered JJBA, and I relate to her and Joy’s struggle to be seen and accepted. To say anymore would spoil it: Please, no matter what film Twitter or anyone else says about this thing, go and at least attempt to watch it. Assuming you aren’t overwhelmed or turned off by the humor-which is perfectly okay-I promise you will love it.

i couldnt even guess who this is supposed to be. u can do that with like all the old designs and when u Cant (like with joan, for me at least) the designs aren’t ATROCIOUSLY UNAPPEALING at the very least like this design makes me MAD its so ugly. the proportions feel wrong the bodys fucking stupid the clothes are SO UGLY the colors are SO BAD the eyes are SO SLANTED. 10 Years of Deviantart

FULL STORY:

So back in 2014, I remember that I created this DeviantArt account on the Nintendo Wii, I didn't post anything at the time because there's no way to post anything on a video game console nor I have a computer at the time. I have the 3DS, but I can only post my drawings on Facebook. That is until I got a phone the next year and got a DeviantArt app to finally post my drawings on the site. I posted my Mixels, Object Shows, and other stuff I was interested in.

I was noticed by the Mixels and the Object Show community and I receive fanart of My OC's and my personas. I was a bit popular, but I did not have 500 followers compared to now. I also would upload photos for my short-lived series; 2 Strong Wrestling. I made humanoid versions of the leaders of the first 3 Mixels, Flain, Craiger & Teslo, and Iza's OC. Well, because I moved to a different apartment from Grandma's house (R.I.P. Grandma by the way), and it was poorly made (which makes sense, as I was 15-16 at the time), I ended up not only scrapping the wrestling league but even deleting photos from DeviantArt (Probably a good thing too because I only want to focus on my drawings and photos). In 2017, my interest in Mixels is… not gone, just faded. At the time I said the reason I stopped doing Mixels fan art was because of “Rule 34 garbage to fetish nonsense, and shipping”. Look, I admitted doing inflation fetish drawings but not as much, I was 17 at the time. Looking back, I was dishonest and did not know the fact that stuff is normal for shows in the media. Long story short, I don't mind lewd drawings, fetish shit, and shipping… AS LONG IF THEY DON'T DRAW UNDERAGE LEWD ACTS, DRAW THE MOST SICK SHIT IMAGINABLE, RESPECT OPINIONS ON SHIPS AND NOT WISH DEATH THREATS TO OTHER PEOPLE! Angry rant aside, I still draw Slark from Aqua Squad because he's not only my favorite OC but he's my first OC ever. That's why he appears in my future drawings. Anyway, I'm still working on my Mixels Remastered, it is still A WORK IN PROGRESS.

Next is Object Shows. Back in 2016, various Object Shows were canceled and I thought it was going to be the end of the genre in general, thankly it wasn't the case.

Back then I was watching BFDI, Inanimate Insanity, Object Overload, Object Havoc, Object Redundancy & The Object Show Movie. Well, nowadays… Look, I still watch BFDI & Inanimate Insanity but, I'm just not BIG on Object Shows anymore and that's because they're mostly competition shows. It was accepted back in 2010 through 2015 because it was based on Total Drama Island, but nowadays it's starting to get old and repetitive. I just want something different now. Look at ONE, while I am not a fan of that show (respect my opinion), it was unique compared to other shows at the time. Looking at Modern Objects, I was hooked on that show and again it felt different and unique I was hoping to see more, but sadly, it never came to be (Object Meltdown is probably the closest that we ever get to an “Episode 2” of Modern Objects). Object After Dark is currently my favorite object show right now.

I'm hoping in the future, we get more original object shows and not BFDI clones with 50 to 100 characters that take too long to make. (Look, I don't mind with a lot of characters in shows just getting people to help to write for them.) Again, this is JUST MY OPINION, you don't have to agree with me.

So in 2014, I started my Christmas drawings on Facebook called “Anthony55's 25 Days of Christmas”, where in 25 days, I would post my Christmas drawings of various characters in traditional scenarios. I continued my seasonal drawings with “Anthony55's 25 Days of XMas” in 2015 and “25 Days of Ant-Mas” in 2016. The series took a 5-year hiatus before 2022 with a revival series called “25 Days Til XMas” and was a huge success! The series will follow up with “The Road of XMas” in 2023. And this year… (SPOILER ALERT/NAME REVEALED) 25 Nights of Navidad will debut in 2024!

This year's 25 Nights of Navidad will go all out on the drawings and the scenarios. (Maybe some throwbacks too.)

So I've been aware of DeviantArt's downfall in recent years.

It all started with the Eclipse debacle, while I honestly don't mind the layout, it kills the vibe of the old DeviantArt style that I remember (I wanted to use them so badly!). The one situation I never want to be in is to be at a loss for words. When the only things you have to say are things that make you look or feel worse. Take for example ultronnie pointing out my mate in my profile. I recall going over that in some of my first dms to you, but you pointed it out anyway as if I forgot. Acting romantic when I said we were just going to be friends, yeah, that's my error. But that's not what you point out.

Instead you start out in this round about way, in this attack pattern starting off with a question for a question. I confessed and I was just happy to even be in your fucking orbit finally and instead of letting me be happy for a while letting me be comfortable for a while until things on my side were a bit more manageable. You swipe me out of the sky. You pretend your romantic side of the subtext and retweets never happened.

Like I get that you weren't in a good position. Neither of us knew what would happen on Red's side of things if we let things continue. And we didn't want it to escalate into drama on Red's side. But that's not how you approached it. You came to end our mutual existence early. You gave me a pointed question that I would not be able to answer and make it seem positive for me at all.

And when I leave you regret all of it. You regret sending me away, you let off this rant about your situation. You clearly evaded my block. But most of all you lied to my face and you didn't even bother to hide it. You made it clear that at any given point our entire history of interaction was your choice to completely omit and we would only interact in ways that could not be recorded. Because the only thing that concerned you was not having Red get involved in things.

I did all this stupid shit, letting my thoughts fly in the wrong channels like here, like in bios, journals, journal comments, even likes and favorites. And I mixed it in with my self-destructive rants, my magnetism towards emo and depressive art at the time because that is how I genuinely felt. Even while I was going around work at Peloton in my first months that is not where I saw myself spending my life or my career. And I didn't want to be in Utah either, so I had reasons to be unhappy even if I could play it off so well under Red's eyes I was not happy. Especially with my last words with Kay and my other friends not being the greatest. Not even a word of farewell from them, just a lot of wondering if they even cared about me anymore. And the threat of covid perhaps offing one of them at any time, this looming threat that our last words were not favorable but I might lose one of them too while things were still not stable between us, I was not happy.

I came to you seeking my first friend away from my pack. I came to you seeking my first step to finding a new group of friends. And that's why my impressions about you and my rants towards you about horror things to watch among other things was so pointed. Because I wanted to be a part of you. I saw you as this new chance to completely resuscitate my social network. And the funny thing is through all of that, even up to the point you hacked me, I feel that much should have been obvious. Cause where was I always cycling back to whenever I was talking at you? I was seeking friendship, love, anything from you, but most of all I wanted your help.

And instead of helping me, instead of working with me, instead of talking things through with me, you persisted towards this half-assed communication with me all the way to very end. I was mad, I kept showing how mad I was and I did very little to mitigate it. But you kept giving me reasons to be frustrated, kept jumping off the page whenever I caught up to any kind of understanding with you. And the only reason you get even a slight pass from all the shit you put me through is the fact that I myself also kept using the wrong channels to get to you.

You made stalking our only real form of communication, so I almost felt that some of the stuff I did was allowed because it fell within the same rulesets. But you had a group. I was alone. And that is why whether I deserved it or not I got hurt in the end.

In the end it's not about making the right choices or not, it's about who has your back. That is what you showed me.

1-2) How long have you been a part of the fandom+how did you get involved in the fandom

Watched the first Cars movie when I was 3 years old (it was in 2006 and they aired it on the local TV) and instantly loved it afterwards :D I used to bring my Cars backpack+stationery set and several Cars toys to the kindergarten... And got judged by the teacher bc I was supposed to act "girly" so I stopped letting people know that I love our beloved sentient vehicles 😔

I didn't know WoC fandom existed until... Last May? June? I forgot lmao TvT My ex got me into Cars again, and I tried searching for Cars fanfics and fanarts... That's when I found out that there's a fandom of our beloved sentient vehicles!

Tried interacting with the fandom on Twitter on the wrong time... There was a fandom drama happening and I instantly quit (⁠•⁠ ⁠▽⁠ ⁠•⁠;⁠) Went solo for a while until I discovered the fandom on Tumblr :D I hadn't created my Tumblr acc back then tho lmao

Then I started getting into Planes after reading a good Cars/Planes fic, fell in love with the F&R characters without knowing how they looked like (I had only watched the first movie back then), then hyperfixation started and I found out that the fandom was more active on Tumblr, so I made my own acc. It was on early July iirc? A few days before F&R's anniv?

So now I mainly rant and draw stuff of the Planes charas (and some of the Cars ones with my IG moots) plus some forbidden stuff but let's not talk about it here and interact with others in the fandom :3

3) Who is your favorite character and why?

All time favorite chara would be... Strip Weathers :)

Strip was what got me into Cars as a kid, tbh (⁠*⁠´⁠ω⁠｀⁠*⁠) He had fame and everything, yet he was so down-to-earth and wise... His interactions with Tex and Lynda fascinated my 3 y.o self. A man with that kind of fame, being lovey dovey with his wife? Real life told me that it was impossible, and Strip yeeted reality away from me. And when Strip gave his advices to Lightning? Acknowledging that he'd need a team to race? Implying that his team played a huge role in his success? Yeah, that impressed me. Started making friends instead of locking myself in a room to read books everyday after that.

For my current favorite, I'm torn between Dusty and Blade, tbh.

When I first watched the first Planes movie, Dusty was a mary sue chara for me... And discovering F&R's existence last July changed my impression of him.

My journey to get into art/design major was rough. I've been wanting to get into design since I was in the fifth grade, and my parents finally let me apply for it a few weeks before the national entrance test... Failed the first test because I caught fever after studying too long (yea we still needed to do the math etc), failed the second bc I had a mental breakdown in the middle of the test (not gonna talk abt this one), and finally made it into the third (received scholarship too so yay!)

Worked hard, studied hard, managed to get into a well-known 3D/VR studio... It was a dream come true, tbh. Started as a 3D texture artist, got more job as 3D artist, fell in love with the job...

Then there was a problem with one of the bigger projects, and they had to fire more than half of their workers and all of the interns...

So basically I lost my dream job. Not because I sucked at it, not because I failed my project, it was because an external factor I couldn't change no matter how hard I tried.

Then I discovered F&R and I sympathized with Dusty. He tried so hard and went through so much, and in he had to quit (not permanently, thankfully) all of the sudden, not because he lost a race, not because his techniques sucked. It was because his gearbox got broken and the factory had stopped producing it. It was beyond his control.

As I watched F&R for the first time, I instantly thought, "ah, he's just like me," and I adopted him 👍✨

Then Blade appeared. Strict boss. Reminds me of my dad so much to the point he's not in my all-time fav list lmao.

But he was the one who pushed Dusty back up. "If you give up today, think of all the lives you won't save tomorrow." Yeah, it's unrelated. They're out there saving lives and I'm scooped in my room, drawing with my phone for work and uni. Totally unrelated. But I just know that the last time someone started the domino chain of death in my life, it didn't end well. So I stayed.

Then Maru told Dusty about Nick, and what Blade did afterwards. I got impressed with how Blade managed to be strong enough to rise back up. He didn't let himself get completely drowned in sorrow for years. He actually did something.

I applied to another studio and got accepted. Unpaid, 24/7 work time. But I can work on stuff that makes people happy now. So Blade is currently both my reason to stay alive and a "he's me fr" chara lmao

1 and 2: I've been a fan of Cars since 2006, when I saw it in the theater. Only within the last year have I gone balls-to-the wall with hyperfixating posting WOC art online, writing fanfiction, and generally interacting with the fandom...so I guess I'm pretty new to the things, here. I'm not super active online because of my work schedule (I'm a groundskeepee for a local zoo), but I try the best I can with the time/energy I have at the end of the day.

3. Doc Hudson, hands-down. When I first saw the movie, I liked Doc...but thought he was being rude and unfair to Lightning. Fast forward a while to when I got my dream job, teaching college geology. After three years, I realized that the admins didn't give a shit about education and that they seemed to be doing everything in their power to shut down anything that myself, or other professors, tried to do for the student body. I quickly became disillusioned by the apathy and lack of support...and I had to resign because the stress was literally killing me. I know now that this is a common theme in higher ed...but all I wanted to do was teach. To see that flame of understanding kindled in the eyes of my students...

To lose that, was like having my soul pureed in a blender, and I...havent been able to teach since.

Every time I hear Doc's line "there was a lot left in me, and I never got the chance to show 'em"...I tear up. He's still reeling from an apathy that ended his career ..and I understand how hard that feeling can be to rebound from, how you can lock everything in a garage and hide behind a new personality... because your old life is too painful to think about.

Listening to the curated playlist he made for you while you lay together and watch the ceiling. Sneaking pictures of him without makeup, refusing to delete it because he looks pretty like that and pointing out every little feature you like about it. Hint; it’s everything.

Huang Renjun | 런줜

Twilight hours spent getting lost in various art projects together, watching over Jun’s shoulder as he finishes another one of his pieces. Deep conversations about the future and your goals; he promises to support you as much as humanly possible. Staying up over the phone for little Chinese language lessons while you both fight the urge to sleep. Tracing constellations in the night sky in the park with nothing else but coffee, blankets and all the time in the world. Late-night photoshoots against alleyways, laughing at how bad the picture came out while taking the best ones as shared wallpapers.

Lee Jeno | 이제노

Late nights spent looking at new desk setups and decorations for your shared gaming spaces. Laughing at Hyuck’s incessant yelling down the mics when you ‘accidentally’ let yourself get killed in-game to spend more time with Jeno away from the screen. Content smiles when he wraps his arms around you from behind while you’re making hot chocolates, his head buried in the crook of your neck. Constant discussions over adopting a puppy and all the aesthetic things the pair of you could do as pup-parents.

Lee Donghyuck | 이동혁

Staying up watching as he plays round after round with the others, chuckling as he shouts obscenities over his headphones. Filming Hyuck to use as ‘blackmail’ material in the group chat later on. Popping open a can for the pair of you when he finally finishes playing, the clock hits two am easily. Throwing a pillow in his face when he suggests something absolutely insane and laughing at his over-the-top offended face. Pretending to film that reality show he keeps talking about whenever he starts going off on one of his tangents. Sharing snacks while you bicker over what to watch and watching the same show for the nth time.

Na Jaemin | 나재민

Late night coffee runs where you gawk at the sheer amount of extra espresso shots he adds to his drink order. Running after him as he pulls you to the next 24/7 café he finds. Listening to him ramble about his day while you watch with an endeared smile because how does he still have all this energy? Waking up at unholy times because Jaemin’s calling you over to bake muffins with him. Enjoying your freshly made midnight snacks with a drama marathon wrapped under blankets.

Zhong Chenle | 천러

Falling asleep against his shoulder three dramas into your tv marathon, his hands gently laced through your hair. Playing with Daegal and struggling not to wake up the entire neighbourhood with your shared laughter, the small dog just too cute. Wandering the convenience store looking for the best midnight snack before settling on buying an entire bag full because no one could come up with a clear answer. Nibbling on the bag of snacks on the way home while ranting about each other’s day and making fun of his hyungs – with good intentions.

Park Jisung | 박지성

Waking up to Jisung pleading you to join him on one of his late-night craving-induced trips to the store to get ice creams. Laughing about your brain freezes while trying to down the frozen treats. Watching (read; supervising) him make ramen and applauding when he manages to not burn the kitchen down; his hyungs aren’t exactly keen on waking up to the smell of a burnt kitchen and a panicking Park Jisung. Eating said ramen by the balcony and watching the rain hit the ground outside. Counting as many graveyard shift workers making their way across the street and wondering what their day looks like. Laying in each other’s lap and relaxing while you play with each other’s hair.
