You! Do you want more minecraft shows? Do you like watching beautiful, intriguing murder mysteries for free on youtube? Do you know about Whitepine?

i rewatched all 3 episodes of whitepine, and i wanted to write a somewhat-cohesive opinion on it, because clearly not enough people are talking about it. i mean, episode 3 has been out for 4 days, and it still only has 123k views. which is an atrociously small number for a show this good.

so, whitepine is a kind of series that you will watch without your phone. the visuals are both captivatingly beautiful and important to the narrative. the pacing is unhurried and calm, letting you savor every shot. however, i wouldn't call it slow or boring. i was afraid that it would be too serious or melancholic for me, or that it is a horror story, but that wasn't the case at all. it's a murder mystery set in the early XX century. the story is centered around a household of the wealthy Hemlocke family, where the main character, Ivory, is a newly-hired maid. Ivory is quiet, shy and agreeable - not exactly a typical main character for a minecraft production. Ivory's progression through the story is genuinely interesting to watch, and i find her actions and words very realistic. actually, all dialogue sounds natural, which is.. pretty hard to achieve.

voice acting is surprisingly good. don't get me wrong, i love minecraft roleplay with its amature acting, but it doesn't mean that i don't notice the flaws. whitepine, however, sounds almost professional, which is a result of actors' amazing work and Ivorycello masterfully matching the actors to the roles. speaking of sounds, whitepine has incredible sound design! not only is there music that Ivorycello composed (and played, i think) herself, there are also actual sound effects - rustling of bedsheets, bird songs, clatter of plates - everything! - that help to interpret actions and scenes that are hard to show within minecraft.

speaking of minecraft - this show is not minecrafty at all. game mechanics have no bearings on the story and are not referenced at all. this is neither a praise nor critique from me, just a fact about the show.

i highly recommend turning subtitles on, at least for the scenes with muffled speech or a lot of characters talking. ah, yes, whitepine has great, human made subtitles in english and... wait.. how many languages?

the only con to watching whitepine is that you will want to watch more whitepine, and it is an on-going show. but it is so worth the wait, i promise you.

I haven't done one of these in forever but welcome back to Sketch Rambles About MCSM Stuff at an Unreasonable Hour of the Night 🎉🎉🎉

Tonight, I'm gonna discuss one of my favorite songs from the Minecraft: Story Mode OST, "Redstone Baby," and the potential lore that it holds. And why that's very Sorengaard related.

Disclaimer: this is me interpreting silly block people. Unless otherwise stated (or in the game), it ain't actually canon. Also, I am a teenage girl. I am not versed very well in the specifics of how music theory works and how it's used in media. Also also, I wrote most of this like two months ago and completely forgot about it.

(In case you needed a reminder of how it sounds)

This song appears twice in the season 1 episode 3: when you arrive in Soren's lab area, and again in the end credits. It can also be heard through the closed secret entrance wall in the Wool World™, and it gradually becomes clearer as you approach the door to Soren's lab, where a music disc is playing the song inside.

The instrumentation of "Redstone Baby" consists of guitar, piano, and violin. It feels comforting and cozy, whilst also giving a sad, longing sort of vibe. According to a comment written 6 years ago by Antimo on the linked video, they were going for a sorta "Fallout: New Vegas" vibe when they wrote it. The song holds an air of nostalgia, of better times. An idealized dream of how the world could be.

To get to the point: it's cute, it's cozy, and it's a love song in a game where they weren't allowed to explicitly write any canon ships (if I'm remembering correctly). Also one of the few songs in this game to be given lyrics. So, of course, we're gonna talk about this. Or rather I'm gonna write about it and you're gonna read it.

The lyrics go as follows:

The lyrics are pretty strange, right? It seems nonsensical at first, but I (and many others) believe that it has more meaning than meets the eye.

This is a love song addressed to a someone proficient with redstone. Funnily enough, Soren's old friend group did have one of those. A brilliant Redstone Engineer: Ellegaard. And quite interestingly, these two were pretty close, as is said multiple times in canon. I think Magnus mentions their little "Nerd Club," in episode 3 at some point. Another fact to back me up on this: Soren calls the song "Symphony in E" in-game on the little radio-disk-program-thing.

And for whatever reason, Soren and Ellegaard didn't stay close or end up together. There's not really a way to know for certain what went down between them. All we do know is that Soren wishes it was different.

The "marshmallow world" that is talked about in the song is Soren's perfect world. It's safe, sweet, and fluffy. I am of the opinion that it could possibly be an indirect reference to the wool world that Soren built. It's bright. It's safe. No monsters can get him there. He can just build things and be happy. In a perfect, marshmallow world, Ellegaard is with Soren.

The metaphors Soren uses here, "the bed to my rock, the flint to my steel," they're both iconic, inseparable duos: bedrock, and flint and steel. In Minecraft, bedrock is the unbreakable foundation beneath all else in the Overworld. Flint and steel is used to set things on fire, and is most often used to light Nether portals, which is way less symbolic (unless someone can find something? maybe the whole flaming heart being a metaphor for love thing?) but still iconic and the phrase has a very nice rhythm to it.

When we first hear the song, it feels like normal wishful thinking. It's more just fluff and poetry than full-on wants and desires.

But when we hear it in the end credits of episode 3... We just saw someone die after sacrificing their safety for Jesse's. The monster that they died to help kill isn't even dead. Someone we thought was dead is actually alive and doesn't remember anything. It's loud, dark, and burning. A sickening storm of death and destruction. Anything but the marshmallow world.

Without considering which of the two died, this song is already quite jarring in comparison to what was just witnessed. This "marshmallow world" that seemed somewhat close just a moment ago now feels implausible, and thus it'd be worth so much more if it were real.

I will never not love when something in a piece of media is treated as a good sign or motif or something and then it gets recontextualized and hurts ya right in the feels.

And with Redstone Baby combined with Ellegaard dying, it's just that extra brutal.

Because now it's not just, "in a perfect world, we'd be together." It's "in a perfect world, you wouldn't be dead, and we'd be together."

If only Soren wasn't so much of a coward. How differently things could've gone.

I feel like nobody is going to ever see this. But I just need to get some BEN Drowned headcanons out here-

1. He always wears his goofy ass hat because he never brushes his hair and it helps hide the absurd mess it is

2. Whenever Ben feels shocked, angry, or an overwhelming emotion, his pupils disappear leaving a black void(?)

3. His voice is naturally glitchy, it’s like his vocal cords are a messed up record player. Examples; He repeats words like a broken record occasionally, he tends to stutter pretty often, his voice has a constant static undertone, he has voice cracks but they sound cooler.

6. Smokes weed and listens to Hyperpop and electronic music

7. He also loves video game soundtracks

8. He doesn’t technically need to sleep as a technology ghost, so he tends to pull all-nighters constantly

9. When he does sleep, he either has dreams about drowning in an abyss of water or other things he can’t remember

10. He listens to video game OST’s when he goes to bed (usually Minecraft or Legend of Zelda)

11. He loves the Zelda franchise but has a small grudge towards Majora’s Mask

12. He also doesn’t need to eat food, but he likes to anyways- it helps him feel human.

13. He doesn’t look exactly like Link. His blonde hair is a little pastier and dirtier (color wise lol) and his face still mostly looks like his

14. He’s toned. He hates being made fun of for his height so he started working his ass off at the gym to try and get some muscle

Once his spirit was released from the game, he was able to transverse the internet. Computer, phone, tv, anything with a screen that’s connected to the wi-fi he can go through as he pleases

26. He’s really good at standing still like a statue

27. The Blood that leaks from his eyes is minimal most of the time and can be wiped off easily, he just chooses not to because he’s lazy

28. When Ben gets upset or any emotion to make him cry, the blood that oozes from his eyes literally thickens and bursts out

29. Ben hates bugs and he lets out a girly ass shriek when he sees one

30. He can teleport a decent distance, but he usually only teleports within the mansion (slender mansion AU)

31. He can summon fire from his hands but he doesn’t use it too often

32. Sometimes when he gets really mad, he unintentionally sets a fire (lots of controllers have been burned)

33. Ben can manipulate electricity, it makes his entire body warmer as he does it, Fire only makes his hands warm.

34. He tends to constantly have the electricity powers going on at a small level. Not enough to affect his electronics but enough to give you a small shock if you touched him. It gives him a sense of human like warmth

35. He always wears gloves because his hands are so frigid he can barely feel them.

Minecraft OST Event FAQ

What exactly is this event? This event will give the chance to artists of all kinds to show their appreciation for the Minecraft OST by creating something inspired by the soundtrack

Is this event about Minecraft or MCYT? Both! The pieces creates will be about the game, minecraft youtube, or a combination. It's up to the participants really!

Will every song of every Minecraft album be featured in this event or just the discs? Currently the plan is to feature all songs in this playlist by the official Minecraft Spotify account, aka all the songs used in the game. Depending on how many people plan on joining this event, the event might expand on this in the future!

How will the songs be assigned? As of now, the plan is for it to be first come first serve. People will be able to pick their songs at a certain date at the same time. We'd love for every song to get their moment to shine! Collabs are also encouraged, so you'd be able to work on a piece together. If there's more participants than songs, more than one creator will be allowed to make something for a song!

How big is the chance I won't be accepted into the event? Pretty slim to no chance at all! Signing up is just for us mods to have a good view on how many people are joining, but everyone who signed up will get an invite sent to them once the signup period is over!

What kind of art will be created? If you participate, you can create anything you want as long as it's inspired by the chosen song! Most people will be creating an artpiece or writing, but we've seen some interest in creating remixes/music and physical art too.

Where will this event be held? A discord server will be up by the time participants are accepted into the event, more about this soon! All posting will be done on tumblr so this blog can reblog every piece made for the event, but participants are highly encouraged to post their pieces to ao3, twitter and other platforms as well

Part 1 of my very first web weaving which is also a present for @zeteri-art (i hope you dont mind that i used one of your art pieces for it, there just arent many pieces of art of kantje that were not made by you (i respect the grind o7)) for @mcyt-valentines

I have had no idea who kantje was before I got you as my secret valentine and since i wanted to make something special, and this is a rather niche character from a smaller smp, I wanted to make something for this! I went around the internet, trying to find lore summaries and other stuff to no avail, until I stumbled upon @endrinstone who was literally my beacon in the dark and gave me such a vast explanation of the lore, moments that were important and also some screenshots that I could use for the web weaving! Like so many kudoes to you bestie, I wouldve literally probably given up on it and did something else instead if it werent for ya.

But! I really hope that, as an outsider from this smp who hasnt even known of the characters existence until like, five days ago, I captured their lore at least a little bit! I really hope you enjoy and I will post this and the second part immediately afterwards, which I will also @ you in!

i think tomu listens to a variety of music tbh, anything that quiets down his head for a bit

so yes some edm, trap, darkwave, emo, metal, nu-metal, prog rock, electronica, vocaloid, gaming soundtracks, lofi, shoe gaze, etc!

he really likes anything with a HEAVY bass or guitar solo, you'll often catch him blasting that kind of music and absolutely killing it on air guitar

but sometimes he likes to just chill and listen to something like the ff7 soundtrack or c418 if he's playing something like animal crossing or minecraft

he's very versatile cause he was overexposed to the internet and tbh he got into a lot of diff music genres cause of the different scenes/spaces he was in online

if u asked him for his all time favs tho, he'd probably say something like falling in reverse, korn, or anything from the minecraft ost.

he really likes to just lay and listen to music on full blast, and if you tell him to turn it down a bit to save his poor ears, he'll turn it UP more

he went through a huge miku phase and he has a few figs of her

also suffered through the emo phase and only wanted to listen to mcr, which he grew out of sadly

(but he knows all the words to all their songs)
