favorite thing about Soda??

wow. where to begin? how does one look at their favourite written entity, sift through the catalogs they keep so meticulously of bits and pieces of these people they keep stored in their brains, and pick one singular thing to be their “favourite”? maybe they don’t. maybe other people are normal about sodapop curtis.

i could say something meaningful. maybe how trusting he is? how he’s able to bring out the good in people, dig up a shimmering, golden side of themselves to only try and mirror his endless radiance? maybe i could touch on how inherently good he is, how he is soft and caring and fierce and protective.

could i mention that i love how he is unashamedly himself? or maybe i could change my mind, say i love that he breaks himself and puts himself back together so he is a mangled, twisted version of himself, just for others to not appreciate how much work he puts in.

i could also get more personal, mention how i can relate to him as a non-intelligent middle child stuck between two fighting siblings. how i can contrast him, he being someone who loves with every fibre of his being, and me being someone who loves in increments; small pieces.

or i could just cut the crap and say my favourite thing about my dumb tin can man is his affinity for horses and his smile

Also if you have time and want to, I would very much like to know the stories behind Revas’ scars :> in as much gloriously painful detail you wanna give!

I yapped u-u I'm sorry. But here is the lore behind his scars! And a shirtless picture at the end!

Aside from the knicks and cuts he's gotten from fights and the top surgery scars, the most notable ones are the snake, scales and gash on his neck.  There's a huge difference between the snake and scales and the others and that is: they don’t fade/heal. It's clear to see the other scales have lightened over time and don't look  as angry as the snake and scales.

I took the Crow background and changed it up some to fit lol. So yes, he did leap into action and free captives, but he got caught.  Revas was a part of the bigger operation that was happening and chose to compromise that to save the ones right in front of him. He was undercover for a good chunk of time and when he started killing people, it blew his cover (understandably so).  He couldn't get away and was held prisoner for a couple of days while Viago and Teia figured out a way to save him.  While he was being held, his captors wanted answers.  He had a ton of training in not giving those answers regardless of what was happening to him. When his captors figured out their "common" ways of torture wasn't working and Revas seemed to find it more amusing than anything, they brought in a mage.  Revas has no idea who this guy is or what his name is to this day.  It didn't take long to find something new that they could torture Revas with and in that came branding in a sense.  They wanted everyone to know Revas was a snake, that no one should trust him.  So they thought the best way to do it was to brand it on him with magic so it couldn't go away.  They wanted it to be somewhere it couldn't be hidden so that is why they are scales on his arm.  They know some tactics of the Crows, so they put the snake on his torso if he wanted to try and seduce anyone in hopes it would lead to questions about intentions behind Revas' actions. 

In the process of branding him, contraptions were used to keep him in place.  One of these was around his neck.  Now Revas has grown a tolerance to most pain and prides himself on this (it's rough being raised by Crows) but pain caused by magic in extreme intensity? That's not something he has a tolerance to.  One of the times they were branding him, he tried to break out of the things keeping him in place.  This caused for some pretty significant cutting, burning, and irritation to his neck.  When he was forced back into being still, the contraption around his neck was used for that almost like a leash. It dug really bad into his neck and pretty much tore open the wounds already there.

This was all over a period of a couple days and the mage had intended to cover a leg as well but Viago showed up and didn't agree with the idea.  There have been some that have spoken to Revas about finding a way to break whatever magic was making them stay, but he refuses it.  He tells a lie each time someone asks him about it and it's easy to tell it's a lie because it's either incredibly outlandish or they hear him give a different answer to someone else asking.  Viago speculates he keeps them as a reminder of what he's working for.  Revas holds on to them for that reason yes, but also because he wants them removed when Viago makes him a full fledge Crow again.

it's been said before but the FUNNIEST thing about the "intricate and endless daddy issues" line is the fact that's it's not even true. like neil straight up made it up for the plot™ like no wonder kevin was freaking the fuck out because "kevin and i talk about your intricate and endless daddy issues all the time" and they don't??? kevin was probably TWEAKING OUT and neil just kept going.

One thing I've noticed about Piltover, not only do they not take disabled people into consideration(i.e. Salo and Viktor), they don't even think about their non-human residents. Steb being the number person to use as my evidence.

Stebs uniform when we first meet him is the typical enforcer uniform. The only difference is you can clearly see that Steb wasn't given a uniform that took his biology into consideration. The collar of the uniform goes up to the fin that's on the back of head/neck, and for fishes fins can be used to feel around them so I doubt having something rubbing up against the end of it all day is comfortable. Not only that but we know that his ears can move and are seen facing more outwards and away from his head, his hat wouldn't allow that and would make it very uncomfortable. The straps of his hat also cover the gils on his jaw and that as well would be uncomfortable, they're silts in his skin that would most likely allow him to breathe underwater so having fabric rub against it would be uncomfortable.

In conclusion, his uniform wasn't made with him in mind. His uniform would be fine for the typical human, the collar might be annoying but not uncomfortable for some. The hat wouldn't cause discomfort as well, it would be like wearing a typical hat or even just like a helmet. But that's for a human, Steb clearly isn't human. He's more fish-esque than human, his biology is different meaning his needs are different. His uniform doesn't fit those needs.

His uniform for Caitlyns striketeam is better suited for his needs(at least some of them). The collar goes out more, it's not rubbing up against his fin. His hat is much different, it's no longer covering his ears and it doesn't have straps that covers his gils.

Obviously Caitlyn had a say on the uniforms because they're part of her striketeam but she also took in Stebs needs and how his old uniform wasn't made with him in mind. So she made the suitable changes, even if they don't seem important, for Steb it most likely made his uniform more comfortable.

His uniform in act3, while it seems different than the others around him based on the fact that it doesn't have a belt and his arm things are black with minimal gold outlines, it still seems like the typical enforcer uniform based on the color scheme. Not only that but it looks similar to his uniform when he was on Caitlyns striketeam.

His collar still pokes out and away from his fin. His hat doesn't cover his ears and it doesn't have a strap that covers his gils.

This uniform takes in his biology, probably more than the two previous ones he wore based on the fact that it looks much more different. Graysons uniform and Marcus' uniform never looked like the one Steb wears in act3 and both of them were of a higher rank than Steb. So it's safe to assume that this new uniform that Steb wears is better sited for his needs.

Basically before all of this, Piltover never took in their non-human residents into consideration when doing things despite having Heimerdinger(a non-human) as a councilor and founder. Steb is a prime example of that, he shows this fact with the different uniforms he wears when on screen.

rin thinks he can stay in this position for an eternity - his hands wrapped around your body as though fitting perfectly like puzzle pieces, eyes fixated on you and your phone - playing god knows what, his face melting into the warmth of your neck. he hopes you don’t turn around to notice his red face, he hopes you don’t feel his hands shakily lingering on your frame, he hopes you don’t realise he’s practically stuck on you like glue - its uncharacteristic of him. he knows logically with the scorching sun outside already peering through the thick curtain he always covers his windows, with the practically spoiled air-condition in his stuffy room, with the much bigger bed that he’s pressing you onto just one side of it, he can afford to move away. its terribly hot but he thinks he’s more addicted to you, the feeling of you on his hands, the feeling of you so close to him as though this was truly where you belong, the feeling of you so close to him that youre practically one together. he scrunches his face slightly, feeling you move within his arms, shifting into one that’s more comfortable for you whilst smiling at your phone playing one of those videos or games he just doesn’t quite get. but he thinks he can get used to it - getting used to you right on his bed everyday after school like you basically live here, getting used to dedicating his afternoons just lying down doing nothing with you, getting used to being yours as much as youre his.

he thinks about how much it has all changed since he’s met you, let you enter his castle of brick walls, get you to stay with him. afternoons like this used to spent on sweating himself off walking home to get rid of all his frustrations, wasting his time away and still avoiding that convenience store, lying down thinking about the past. yet now, he’s here on his bed from the cold bus ride with you, getting an ice cream from another convenience store that’s meant for you and him, lying down with you and thinking about both of you. he didn’t think he could ever get so close - he’s too afraid, he hates people too much, he doesn’t crave it he thinks, but who is he kidding? he craves it, the validation you give him by beaming at him like youre his whole world, the affection you give him through holding his hands, pecking at his face, combing his hair that just feels so much more than him doing it himself. its love, he knows: and just this once, he’ll give in to this addictive feeling, he’ll melt into this sugary-sweet feeling you give him, he’ll drown inside this unknown waters that envelop him completely as though hugging him.

maybe it wont last long - teenage love and all its angst he listens to songs like those. but he believes in both of you, you’ll be the exception, you’ll stay right here in his embrace, you’ll be his for the lifetime and if the world permits, in all of his lifetime and all parallel universes. sometimes, he finds himself dreaming of the future long past now, long away from this childhood bedroom of his still messy, long away from school that he practically only goes to see you - pulling at your matching necklace you bought with him at the arcade to kiss when he wins every and any football match, merging your body with his and becoming one just like now in a apartment at the seaside that you always chatter about with that crescent-eye grin, seeing you with a white veil in an all white room to profess yours and his love that wrapped around him like a jacket in a cold and harsh world. and he hopes it stays like this - he’s always being too idealistic, too dreamy, too passionate that sometimes it backfires - crumbled apart dreams under his brothers feet, crumbled apart test papers he’s thrown into the trash, but never crumbled apart love letters, photo albums, love of you and him.

he thinks too much - smiling as he notices your eyes closed, your head becoming heavy on his arms, hands letting go of the phone that drops lightly onto his sheets. for now, he should sleep too, dream the same dream you have, melt himself right onto you so he can wake up later - finish his homework with you on his desk, chat with you about everything and anything, and still have energy for his night exercise routine. and for now, he’ll indulge in this after school routine that he wishes could last forever, even when you two graduate, even when you two become adults - that the universe wont be cruel enough to separate the both of you, soulmates in his eyes.

I saw some light discourse going around hsrtwt about Ratio being bad/good/morally ambiguous

I'm not gonna comment on that too much cause I wanna talk about smth else but clearly he's a good person, probably one of the nicest people we meet compared to the war criminals and murderers. his major crime is that he's blunt, mean and makes his students cry (which is something about him I don't particularly enjoy for personal reasons, but still)

what I like, something that i feel like people tend to forget, is that he's very openly kind and caring

of course there's the basic stuff, like the fact that he pours his whole heart into making the universe a better place, has eradicated a whole illness called 'the king of illnesses' (so, supposedly, very deadly) and the entire not getting into the genius society because he cares about humanity too much. but also, you know

first of all, he has canonically made various statues depicting himself making a heart with his hands while smiling warmly. I've always found it endearing how he mildly prides himself on 'keeping the world at bay' and just being generally mean while also doing this so casually. I mean, it's a clear message: 'I love you' that's what he's saying, and he's saying it in a silly way

something a bit more hidden is these quotes from hoyolab's post. we all know the 'ignorance is an ailment' quote is directly taken from his character stories, making it canon. that subsequently makes the other two just as canon. obviously it's an official post, but I sometimes see people doubting the validity of these silly little snippets into the hsr universe

I don't particularly know if he is saying those last two quotes in general or to someone/a group of people in particular, but it's like... one of the sweetest (and corniest) things ever, and it makes me giggle a little bit. it almost felt out of character to me the first time I've seen these, but if you think about it, it's always been there

this one is from the valentines day ""event"" on twitter from earlier this year. I like his reaction to the gift for he still has some of his usual, you know, 'I cannot bear to hear such foolish questions'. he's being nice in his own way here, his demeanor is just barely reserved but the sentiment behind his words remains a positive one

another quick thing, though I don't have more examples for this one. he's always going on about how you should always consider whether the question you're about to ask already has an answer (so encouraging you to think for yourself) but he's still Always offering to help. in this and, if I remember correctly, in the mail description you get when you used to receive him for free he's making it clear that he's willing to help you discuss things for you to understand them better and will answer any question as long as it's not a 'stupid' one. he is a teacher, after all. the biggest thing about him is that he wants people to do better. other than this, despite his slight reluctance to help others himself, he does say in his character trailer that sometimes a little encouragement is required

and he does encourage people openly when they do good! no 'I suppose this is acceptable' nor 'I guess you did good'. when someone or something impresses him, he genuinely expresses it. I like to point this out because I see so many people say he's self absorbed or puts himself above others, when that is simply not true. which, I mean, can also be seen in his small little interactions with Herta, Ruan Mei and Screwllum (he literally praises them)

then he also says this a couple times. I don't exactly know what he considers courtesy or discourtesy, but it's clear that at least not all his blunt or mean words are meant to offend. this is something I'd love to look further into, but for now simply want to put here with the rest cause it's an interesting thing about him. he is already described as elegant, which implies a certain level of basic courtesy and politeness when interacting with others, though this just slightly crashes with his 'rude' demeanor

supposedly, you could make the argument that while he canonically realizes how non-endearing he can be (knows his own shortcomings, one of the exact traits he praises) perhaps he actively struggles with coming off as nice. and seeing all I've pointed out so far, maybe all those instances of him being nice are how he'd prefer to come off as (some times). that is unless I missed some bits of canon dialogue where it's implied otherwise

this isn't that detailed or well made of a post, nor the first time someone has pointed out this stuff. in fact I reblogged an incredibly good, lengthy post some time ago that talks more in depth about how nice/kind of a person Veritas Ratio really is

I simply cannot stand when he is described as cold, uncaring, selfish, self-centered or someone incapable of being gentle and loving. and it's not nearly as subtle as people seem to think it is

i feel like jimmys the coworker who writes people up for sitting down. like he really is the only one who actively wants to be working for PE, thinks being captain will fulfill him to the point of getting angry curly isn't. his dream scenario is traveling the far reaches of space. swansea mocks him for being a workaholic even in disaster repeatedly. why does everyone talk about him like a lazy bum i feel like half his fucking problem is being a freak way TOO passionate about this deadend job lol

But I wouldn't say Jimmy is a passionate workaholic, as much as this job is the only place where he has prospects in, where he has high rank and is in control. And Jimmy is supposedly good at it too, queue Curly's comment on now he didn't think Jimmy would take to being a co-pilot as well as he had, as his life up until that point has been a struggle. Additionally, we can see throughout the game that Jimmy is not incompetent in the slightest, he might be shortsighted, self-centered, crumbles under stress and can't keep his emotions in check (and also a fucking dick) but he's resourceful and straightforward, he does what is required of him and is rather streets-smarts experienced, observant and pretty articulate. I'd say though it's less of a passion thing as it is a desperation at chasing any opportunity of being someone in life, to have a thing he can say he's good at and is respected for it, like a career. (" The endless fucking desperation to get shit done") He's an opportunist who craves control and uses everything given to him for his own benefit. Jimmy wants to reach further and is appalled that Curly doesn't want to do the same, that he is "taking for granted" things Jimmy desperately desires to have.

Jimmy is the only person for whom this job was everything he had. Curly wants his life to be something he doesn't have to run from, has ideas of starting over even if he's not good at something, wants to try new things. Anya is determined and persistent and knows exactly who she wants to be, and is only at PE so she can pay for her further attempts at getting into med school. Swansea has pretty much reached his goals in life, has kids and family, and he's old, as Jimmy points out, probably doesn't have many years of employment left. Daisuke just got here. But Jimmy has nothing aside from this, the only things we know about him outside and backstory-wise are that his life was shit and likely his only friend is Curly.

I think Swansea more so notices Jimmy being restless and all self-important now that he is a Captain by title, who wants to boss people around. Jimmy is a control freak. And half of his problem was that this deadend job is the best he had.

4: If your Rook was a companion, where would they be found? I'm not sure if this is for recruiting or at the lighthouse so I'll answer for both lol

Recruiting: Treviso! He would be hanging out in the garden area more than likely. Rook would probably walk up to him while he's mumbling to himself about which flowers and plants to take with him to make something with lol.

Lighthouse: He'd set up in the music room. A little secret is that he does play instruments! It's not something he does a lot of because he doesn't tend to think of it. Something he would do once he was taken in by the Crows was learn instruments to take his mind off of what was going on around him/what he was going through. Lyre is his favorite but he also enjoys playing the piano!

19: How do you think they'll meet their end? Honestly probably during a contract. Revas is they type of guy to go go go so he wouldn't stop working for the Crows until he's dead. I imagine he'd want to go out with a bang and would set it up to be spectacular though. As he gets older he gets better at fighting and not leaving himself so open so as dark as it may sound, he'd know when it was time to go and set up just how that would look.

21: What is your Rook's favorite ability? It's one of the first ones you get in game but it's his favorite cause it knocks enemies back, can poison them, and shocks them. He's a big fan of Static Strike :3 He makes it one of his most powerful hits by stacking a bunch of stuff onto it!

28: Is your character the de facto leader of the party? Or do they consider someone else to be the leader? Revas is very much "we're all leaders here" lol. He straight up tells the team that he doesn't want all of that responsibility solely on him since he's seen what can happen with it because of Syl'tal being the inquisitor. He also doesn't want the weight of his choices (and consequences of what happens) on his mind. He sets up conversations to be a joint decision making circle and does get called out on it a few times which is what gets him to tell everyone why he does it. When he does ultimately have to take on the role of the leader at times, he gets very uncomfortable with it and will attempt to talk himself out of it.

Someone needs to scratch this very specific, niche itch of mine and write a fic just for my shameless ass where Emmrich goes back to the Necropolis with Rook and cannot stop shoehorning mentions of how Rook is his smoking hot, totally banging partner into every conversation.

“You’ll take the first left and down the stairs. Ah, and here comes Rook, my unreasonably hot and absolutely mine partner. Yes, they are indeed a 12/10 on every conceivable scale of attractiveness. No further questions.”

“So anyway, class, I’ll see you all next week—after I spend the weekend ruining Rook in ways that could probably get me banned from polite society. You know, because they’re my blazing hot, profoundly sexy partner and I like to remind everyone of that.”

“Ah, yes, I’d be delighted to attend the conference. Naturally, I’ll be bringing Rook, my devastatingly attractive partner, whose mere presence is enough to inspire dissertations.”

At this point, his students are just waiting for him to pull up to the Necropolis in the Thedas equivalent of a cherry-red sportscar, wearing sunglasses indoors and saying things like, “Age is just a number.” Like, sir, we get it. You’re 50+ and horny and very in love. Please. Stop.

Meanwhile, Rook is not from the Mourn Watch. They’re the equivalent of a trash raccoon that somehow learned to walk upright because the raw horror of Nevarra is keeping them awake at night. They look like they’ve been dragged through five miles of grave dirt, and they’re actively ducking behind walls to avoid the fucking skeletons walking around like that’s normal.

Everyone else: “Rook looks like a haunted sewer rat.”

Emmrich: “You wouldn’t understand. It’s the feral eroticism for me.”
