“I’d be a real airhead to forget it – you’re in here practically every day.” You flash him that trained smile – all pearly white with a breath of laughter – offering the book you’d just picked out for him to reach. “You’re becoming my best friend – I see you more than I see my boyfriend!”

Tomura doesn’t reply. Nor does he accept your hand-out.

He’s too caught up in your words. A wrinkle scrunching up between his brows – eyes slim while staring at you – feeling his temple pulse. 

That’s not very service-inclined of you to say. Customers don’t want to know you have a boyfriend. That ruins the fantasy. Once again, if you don't know me, I'm what Lily would refer to as a Star Wars weeb. I live, breathe, and shit Star Wars. You got it? Good. Let's dig in.

Now, this can't be a Lily Orchard video without her complaining about the thing she claims to love. Now, I have my own problems with the sequel series, mostly that I found it boring and a wasted opportunity to do something a bit different and interesting and felt that they pushed a black man to make room for a white woman. Hell, my siblings even told me that for a week, it was just none stop complaining about Disney owning Star Wars I think the only reason I started to go a bit easy and shut up was when star wars rebels came out but I'll get into my own acceptance of Disney canon in a separate post.

To her credit, she talks about how universal Star Wars is, how it has something for everyone, and if you're someone like me a shit ton of stuff to take all of the money from your account but now we come to Lily not understanding how things work.

She goes into a rant about how streaming services are killing movies and just regularly TV watching, which is true, yes. She's uses Matt Damon's views on streaming she then talks about her all-time favorite movie and the reason she pushes for low stakes storytelling from that time period called John Q. From 2002 which if you don't know, it's about a father who holds a hospital hostage at Gun Point to get them to help his son, who needs a life-threatening heart surgery.

Despite the title, this video has nothing to do with Star Wars. it's more about streaming services with a spit of Star Wars. From 8:37 to 14:48 is nothing about Star Wars and all about streaming and low stakes over high stakes. Despite that, I would argue that John Q, while being more a personal movie of a father desperate to save his son, is a high stakes situation. High stakes storytelling isn't just "The fate of the universe is at risk," and low stakes storytelling isn't just personal drama. John Q stakes are pretty high with taking an emergency hospital hostage where everyone could die if not treated, and the best case scenario for the main character is his son getting treatment while he goes to prison and the worst case being he dies with his son. I hate to break it to you Lily but the movie you say is your all time favorite is a fucking high stakes movie.

Finally, getting back to fucking Star wars. She brings up how Star Wars is a pretty low stakes series simply because of how the story is overshadowed by the family drama that is the Skywalker family, which is turn. I would say that Star Wars can be pretty low stakes, but I wouldn't stay that it is. She talks about clone wars, the "patron saint of the annoying darkness obsessed Fanboys" (A.K.A me) has plenty of episodes of that dig deep into the rot and corruption of the republic and the jedi order but that those are dwarfed by the focus of Anakin and Ahsoka's relationship pointing out that that episode was the series most hard hitting to the fans which is true anyone who watched that episode can tell you they cried their eyes out but that's mostly because that really left an impact on Anakin and one could argue is that's what really made him question the order and when you go back to watch Anakin's descent it makes it all the more heart breaking.

We all know Lily hates serialized TV that's no secret or surprise she'd much rather watch a sitcom over anything else, but the thing is, but she treats serialized shows as moldy bread using the Ahsoka show as an example of losing characters and losing moments for the story to breathe and the fun episodes that do nothing but flesh out a character never mind the fact that Ahsoka and Sabine don't need to have their character fleshed out we already saw that in rebels for Sabine and CW for Ahsoka. I find it kinda funny that she doesn't like the Ahsoka show when that was the lowest stakes show she could ask for a teacher and a student getting back together to help find Ezra while 2 dark side users are also trying to find him so they can find Thrawn hell she even has some lesbians to obsess over but they focus on the force for to long and has too many samurai references dispirit the fact that...

The Jedi are basically samurai!

Something I found interesting is Lily using M*A*S*H and other sitcoms saying they have some depth to them, but we her critics can't see that past the laugh track saying how her favorite All in the Family did a good job talking about drag queens while taking a dump on Rocky horror for their drag queens. Now I haven't seen all in the family or Rocky horror (and I don't plan to), but I have seen M*A*S*H, which is a good sitcom it's pretty funny and a prime example of "laughter is the best medicine" or "if you don't laugh, you'll cry." If you don't know what M*A*S*H is, it's a 70s (1972 to 1983) sitcom that takes place in a medical tent during the Korean War with most of the episodes being about the main group of characters trying to go home but whacky hijinks get in the way the show is all dark humor. Little fun fact if you didn't fall asleep during history class, M*A*S*H was made three years before the Vietnam War had ended, so people didn't care for it until 1974 and you don't have to he a genius to know why it's loved now.

Lily’s main problem with Star Wars is that she's living in the past and won't move forward, and she can't expect that not everyone likes what she likes. Sure, Solo was a flop, but there are still some people who like it.

There is no such thing as peak fiction also applies to Lily herself.

hey. im sorry but i need to just. spill this because it's sorta been in my mind for a few months, not outwardly, but a feeling i finally realized when this term ended.

(a vent about myself under the cut, sorry.)

i really hate how much im separated and need to hide myself from people. even if it's something simple and dumb to hide.

like, will you believe me if i say i need to keep my love of math from all of my classmates? everyone in my class hates it, they complain all the damn time and im the only one who genuinely enjoys math (even though i get frustrated with it sometimes). everytime i say "i love algebra!" or "i love graphs!" they look at me as though i am a liar or im some sort of freak. even my friends, they tell me to shut up when i say it out loud even though i dont say anything when they say they want our math teacher to die or they complain about something i like about math. (which kinda hurts me as well lol)

i understand the dislike for math, i disliked it before, but saying you genuinely want our teacher to die just because she teaches a subject you dislike is fucking dumb. i was starting to unlearn that, but now im starting to relearn it, which isnt helping myself at all. (i really want to tell them off about it, but i dont want to also.)

there's also my love of music that i've complained here before once, i need to keep it quiet because when they hear someone likes anime or j-pop they think im a weeb that's obsessed w anime men and want to see them butt naked. i hate it. i hate when i listen to rock, i hate when i listen to metal, but i love it so much i cant. i don't even listen to music in school anymore because i feel so self conscious about it. i feel that i'll be judged at and be seen as some sort of weirdo that they'll whisper about behind my back.

there's also the glaring obvious fact that im very-gay-for-girls-but-also-a-transguy. im in an all girls school, but there are a few non-cis people here for semi obvious reasons. i dont feel comfortable being out much for obvious reasons and i feel miserable here. most of the people here are actually chill w the trans people in my school but some just love asking uncomfortable questions like why they were there instead of the boys school or about their names. it freaks me out. it scares me. it makes me want to never come out and be myself. there was this time today when i was in my business class and made my nickname for this game 'birdboy' which led to my teacher asking why i used boy rather than girl, which led to me and my friend (another non-cis person and one of the people i came out to) saying that it just flowed better and not because i was a transguy. that teacher was surprisingly chill w trans people being in her class though, she asked my friend his preferred name and started calling him that, there's also another friend of mine in that class and she's also chill w him and his name, so i think she's ok.

other than my gender, there's my sexual orientation, which im not even sure on. i like girls, girls are can be pretty and handsome, but if i said that, they would hate me for being gay(?), which is also terrible because most people in my school are homophobic, yay. i got asked once for no fucking reason and without prompt if i liked girls or boys and i fucking panicked and said i didn't like either, which led them to asking if i was straight or bi (didn't even say lesbian, smh) which i also denied because i didn't rlly liked men anyway (what they got for not saying lesbian) and also didn't want to say i was gay(?) to my entire class before a fucking we went to our social studies class. i was so fucking scared when they asked that.

like, my school is accepting of queer people and lets them wear what type of uniform they like (except for me because my mom filled out my form for me which didnt let me put my preferred pronouns and kind of uniform) but it feels so hard to believe with the amount of hate towards specifically those who aren't fem presenting. it makes me feel torn apart with if i want to be who i want to be or be hidden behind this false version of myself that ive been hiding behind for almost my entire life. i feel so terrible.

i feel so disconnected from people of my own culture as well. i suck at tagalog, i know how to talk in tagalog, but i speak like a little five year old. every time i speak to other filipino people, there's a disconnection, there's a thing i dont understand or know about my own culture. i feel like some sort of failure as a filipino person.

im better at english than tagalog, so that means i must be fine, right? no. not at all. other than the other stuff i said above, they dont use american english, the one i learned. and since i lived my entire life in the philippines, i dont know some stuff in new zealand. they get shocked when i dont know something that is pretty much so well known here, when i dont know the british equivalent of an american word or when i dont know any maori words. i feel so fucking dumb every time it happens.

i just hate how much i dont know and how disconnected i feel from the world and those around me.

Yandere for the problematic trope

Gimmie a “problematic” fictional trope (ie: age gap, teacher student, etc) and I’ll tell you: [Accepting]

1. Any of my ships that fit it

shit fam I'll have to think of something because-- outside of following the Yandere simulator & dev shitshow. I haven't really thought of Yandere as a trope or story, once I grew out of my edgy teen phase.

I GUESS depending on your interpretation of it Saga's evil face/Shaka could fall under that umbrella. But that's a huge stretch of Saga's character, IMO. Aphrodite/Deathmask could have some potential for that sort of story, I feel like it. As in: I really don't see these two having any trouble, in killing any form of competition for one another's attention or love.

2. General Opinion

WAIT do ppl seriously see Yandere as this massively problematic trope? I mean, it's just anime edgyness through and through.............................. Why am I pretending to be shocked that ppl may see the whole shtick of "an obsessive lover taking it too far, in a desperate attempt to ensure their love would be corresponded by their primary target of affection." as bad? LOL

With that said I feel like shit such as the "Yandere simulator" might have painted this trope, in a truly awful light. Due to its mainstream status, and it may have been folks' (those who have barely had much of or any contact with anime or mangas) very first contact with this sort of story. Because, if you remove the Yandere name, you'll realize that's a pretty common trope for many dark/horror/thriller stories.

Yandere is just a fancy and weeb way to describe a murderous stalker. My only annoyance I have with it is that, it seems like all Yandere characters I have seen or come across are high schoolers/teens.

3. Any ships that aren’t canon it But I’d read w/ the trope

As I mentioned, I stopped thinking about Yandere stuff once I grew out of my antsy teen phase. BUT I'd be totally down for some form of AU or heavy canon divergence for some of the following ships (fucked up obsession -> Toxic relationship: it could be hella fun to explore).

I'd be down for a yandere version of muvians (Mu/Kiki/Shion) going off the handle like that @ their loved ones. Muvians in love could be just straight up dangerous cryptids.

Yandere AldeMu. In one of Alde's visits to Mu in Jamir, he is lured to go inside the tower. Bc of their good friendship, Alde's guard is lowered and he just blindly follows him. Not really picking on any signs of danger for him, not even coming close to suspecting the extent of Mu's obsession with him is. Something about his isolation truly and deeply skewering with Mu's perceptions. & Aldebaran is nevermore seen or heard of from the others.

Anime is ran by perverts who dont know how to write people because they never talk to people. I used to like FMA since it was written by a woman, Bleach because of the art, and like slice of life manga but I cant help now in investigating the artists... I feel legit sick to my stomach. I highly recommend you browsing through my #animeculturewasamistake tag. I gathered a bunch of posts pulling out the utter degeneracy of anime culture.

You are absolutely right by anime culture being ran by pervert and social inepts. Anime and manga as a whole should be ditched for a bunch if reasons, but those made my women have redeemable qualities. At least, female characters from manga made by female don't have a D cup by default and have more substance than being a love interest or a grade D side buddy (sometimes both go and in hand, i.e Naruto or Bleach)

Thar being said, a bunch a famous manga pulled out by women are peak degenerate. Notably, "Angel Sanctuary", the main characters, a brother and his sisters -both underage- fall in love and have sex (actually incest was a big thing back in the 2000s when shōjo smut was raging). In "Fruits Basket" the Soma in an inbred a family where cousins breed within each other to perpetuate their cursed lineage..... And let's not forget "Nana" (a VERY popular shōjo) a 14 y.o Shin is a PROSTITUTE and has a conflicted love/client relationship with 21 y.o Reira....and all of this is displayed as tumultuous yet passionate & cute love story.......

Actually, shōjo is very good at using cute scenery and story plot to normalize abominable things, and overturn good from bad (in Angel Sanctuary, the mother trying to separate Setsuna and Sara, his sister, from dating is portrayed as the antagonist)

We see the consequences of this culture today with all these many kids shoved into it seeing no issue with incest, pedophilia, underage sex or bestiality... It's a huge brainwashing. That's why I cringe hard whenever I see rightoids raving about anime culture for having "no agenda" bc it actually does..... But since it doesn't concern their own obsessions (race, gender, leftism, etc) they are oblivious to the narrative unfolding before their eyes.

Japan is infamous for being very lenient with child pornography. Actually, legislation to ban/control child porn is fairly recent out there. Meanwhile, getting caught with weed will grant you a few months in jail and your career canceled... I'm sure if Watsuki was caught with coke no one would be there to defend him lol but hey it's Japan, where entertaining children rape is seen as a lesser threat than being a stoner... I'm sure a bunch of these scrote mangaka who came out to defend Watsuki have a bunch of dirty laundry on their behalf ; typical case of degenerates supporting each others....

All the rightoids and weebs praising Japan as being the be all and end all of a perfect society have no idea of what they're talking about. Or maybe they only care about their stupid anime, envy their racial homogeneity along with their pseudo conservatism (which imo is ironic considering how authentic conservatism would NEVER accept such institutional scrotic degeneracy) but don't care about rape or abuse victims being silenced under peer pressure (to maintain social order) and the social misery of plentiful of people dying alone in their room or killing themselves... As a huge japanese entertainment follower lurking on japanese SNS, I can tell you you would be shocked at how poorly treated the victims of such issues daring to speak up are by the general public.... Very little empathy and a lot of judgment and criticism (accused of being troublemaker, wanting attention, liar, etc....) Japan is FAR from having the same level of empathy (esp towards female victims) as other countries.... Even after the suicide of Hana Kimura (a resident in the last Terrace House - FYI her suicide happened while she was still on the show) netizens were accusing her of wanting attention......it was heartbreaking.

.... but such thing will remain overlooked by weebs bc they only focus on entertainment. Also it makes sense male weeb won't relate or care about the poor treatments of women in Japan. Entertainment has become the opium of the world. And they don't realize that the reason Japan has such a strong escapism industry is because their reality is just too bleak to handle. “You know I can break out of this, right?” you say to Mingyu who is currently holding you down. He just scoffs knowing you can't move anywhere, but entertains you, “I know, it just makes me feel strong”

“You already strong, Gyu. Anyways where is everyone?” Seokmin asks. You look around the room only seeing half of your friends in Seungcheol’s small living room. Seungkwan and Wonwoo are sitting on the couch quietly talking. You wonder how they became friends because you've never seen them talk to each other. You assume Jeonghan and Joshua are probably somewhere making out so they don't have to deal with actually setting up the party. Seungcheol and Jihoon seem to be lecturing Chan about who knows what. Things are finally quieting down when everyone decides to watch the movie that's playing until someone bursts through the doors, “I'm here motherfuckers. The party is finally getting started”

“She drunk, isn't she,” Cheol asks as he points towards the small blonde girl in Mina’s arms. Seoyeon nods as she brings Chaeyoung to one of the rooms in the apartment. When she comes back, everyone turns towards the commotion at the front door. “You can't make me go inside. I'll bite you, you know I will” 

“Soonyoung, if you just go inside, it'll make everything so much easier,” Jun says as he continues to try and push the smaller boy in. Everyone just watches him, Minghao, and Vernon struggle to bring Soonyoung in until Cheol eventually just picks him up and holds him down, “You two are gonna talk like two grown adults or I’m firing Jihoon”

“Woah why am I getting involved in this?” Jihoon asks walking over to the rest of the group. Everyone looks confused before Chan talks, “How can you even fire him?” 

“Yea and with what job exactly,” Soonyoung says causing Cheol to roll his eyes, “Look if guys talk to each other, I'll tell you where I work” 

“One, no one cares. Two, stop lying to yourself, it's okay if you're unemployed. We won't stop loving you just because you don't have a job, Cheollie” you say which only annoys him more. Jihoon confused asks, “Why do you guys really believe he's unemployed? The dude is literally our boss.”

“ ‘Our’ boss?” Seungkwan says, “yes our boss. He's at the building all the time. How did you not know that?”

“To be honest I thought he was just going there to hook up with you, Ji,” Jeonghan says before getting a drink. “Ew, why would I hook up with Cheol? He's like my brother. That would just ruin your friendship.”

“And that is exactly why I’m not admitting my feelings for Y/n!” Soonyoung screams before trying to run away but failing as Cheol is still holding him down. You decide yelling back is the best option, “like I would ever admit my feelings for you.” 

“That’s it! Time out for you two until you can figure out your issues. Bring them to Shua’s weeb closet and don’t let them out until they're cool with each other.” Cheol says before lifting Soonyoung. Mingyu sees the message Cheol sends and brings you to Joshua’s room as well. “Hey hey, why are you taking them to my closet? What if they fuck in there?”

“Then they'll be happy again,” Vernon says with a smile on his face. Shua rolls his eyes before giving in. Eventually, you and Soonyoung are both shoved into the small closet. You try to stay as far as you can from him, putting a blowup titan in between the two of you. To ease the awkwardness after a few minutes of silence, Soonyoung asks, “You think Shua uses this thing as a sex doll?”

“If he does, I regret touching it,” you reply. The boy beside you laughs and says, “If I remember correctly, you and Joshua sleeping together for a whole two years after college, right?” 

“Yeah well, it was kinda weird. Let's just say, you aren't the only furry in our friend group.” This makes him laugh again before finding a place to sit down. You take a seat beside him as he leans his head on your shoulder, “I’m sorry, Y/n.”

“For what exactly, Soonie?” You ask back wanting a better explanation than just a small sorry. He rolls his eyes before saying, “You already know why. For being immature and not dealing with things like an adult.”

“To be honest, none of us deal with things like adults. We're just the worst. I guess I’m sorry too.” you say back to him. The two sit comfortably in silence just relaxing in each other’s company. Why did we make things so hard for no reason? you wonder. That thought quickly goes away when you remember that the two of you are friends and you never want to ruin that, but your thoughts are interrupted, “I love you, Y/n. But I mean even if it's pretty obvious, I know I'm not very good at showing it.” 

“But we're friends, Soon,” you say back before walking to the other side of the closet. You glance at his face for a second and see a bit of hurt in his eyes. Why am I still hiding how I feel? What’s the point of lying to myself and everyone else? You ask yourself before he breaks your thoughts once again, “Y/n, you say that, but then you're willing to fight with me for months because of the whole situation. Why are we just continuing to do this to each other?” 

“I don't know, Soon. I really don't know,” you reply, overwhelmed, burying your face into your hands. He walks behind you and gives one of his famous, familiar back hugs to comfort you. You relax into the hug as he softly kisses your shoulder, “it's okay, Y/n. You don't need to have an answer right now. It's not wrong to want to take everything at your own pace. I just don't want to feel like I have to constantly avoid you because like you said, you are my best friend.“

“Are you trying to say ‘the power of friendship is so strong’ that we can get through things like this?” you sarcastically say as you laugh and lean into his arms. He giggles and replies, “That's exactly what I’m saying.” The two of you once again sit in silence. You take in everything from the moment you first saw Soonyoung as a small boy eating dirt in the playground to this exact moment You wonder when everything changed, “When did you realize you loved me, Soon?” 

“There isn't an exact moment. I think just over time my love constantly grew for you. I didn't realize it at first and never really wanted to accept it because, well I'm pretty sure it's obvious why,” he responds. You feel the same way. You've always just told yourself it was because of that dance, but you know those feelings have always been there. More importantly, you know you've acted on those feelings before. “Why did you leave me after graduation? After I told you I love you?” 

“Because I was stupid and a coward. I got jealous of Joshua, but then I started to think I wasn't as good as him. I wouldn't be good enough like him. I thought I wouldn't be able to make you happy like he would, ” he says honestly. You don't understand how he could ever think he wasn't good enough. You loved everything about the kid, from his weird tiger obsession to his incredible dance skills. “Soonie, you know I never believed you weren't good enough. And to be honest, Shua wasn't the greatest boyfriend. He was an amazing friend, but there's something off about knowing your boyfriend is denying his feelings for someone else”

“I guess that's how Seoyeon felt. It was just seeing you in the arms of a model like him brought up my insecurities I guess. I thought it would be too hard to compete. So I ran away because I didn't want to deal with the feelings, ” he explains still holding you in his arms. You feel how much bigger his arms got over the years and decide to ask him another question, “When did you start working out? Not that I'm complaining, but the last time Cheol asked you to work out with him you called him a loser and told him there's no reason to work out when you have a cute face.”

“Yes, my face is adorable, but I figured I'd just work out because why not. Also, Ji paid for a year's gym membership in China by accident,” he answers while softly laughing. The two of you continue to talk about random things for the next few hours without anyone interrupting you. You hear soft snoring on the other side of the door. Soonyoung quietly opens the door to not wake the sleeping person on the other side. You walk out to see Seungcheol and Wonwoo fast asleep on each other and quickly take a photo before sneaking away. You and Soonyoung decide to leave through the window to avoid questions or stares from anyone else. For the rest of the night, the two of you wonder who knows where and finally you feel happy to be with your best friend for once.

Sk8 Character Thoughts

Yeah, so y’all have to deal with me venting my latest obsession, lol. Sorry to everyone who followed me for other stuff, I will get back to it eventually. ^^;

I was gonna write out individual walls of text for everyone to be fair, but I decided that’s too much work and I’d go crazy before I finished (plus I’m feeling guilty for neglecting my fanfiction writing), so I’m just gonna bullet point some of the random things I think about various skaters (opinions and theories).

The order is the approximate order of which I like characters, though it’s not a strict ranking. I like most of the characters in the show to some extent.

Adam (Shindo Ainosuke)

I’ve already said a lot about him, you can check it out here and here. I’ll probably end up saying more about him before the show ends, too. xD

Yes, he is an absolutely awful person, but that’s what makes him amazing.

I will say that he needs a better costume designer. He looks like a clown. It looks like something that he designed when he was, like, five years old.

The mask is great though. <3

Cherry Blossom (Sakurayashiki Kaoru)

I love the super analytical types, but I also feel like Carla is a crutch for him. He’s a great skater, but if he didn’t have Carla, I don’t think he’d be able to compete at the level of the other top skaters. But all the more props to him for finding a way that he could compete at that level.

He totally had a thing for Adam before. But I think that even then, Adam was too fucked up to be able to have a romantic relationship, so nothing came of it. Because if Adam did actually learn what real love was like rather than confusing abuse for love, I don’t think he would have turned out the way he did.

It’s pretty clear that until he gets smacked by Adam, he’s still looking up to Adam and clinging to what they had before. And it bleeds into his non-skating life as well: when he did his calligraphy demonstration, I think that he hoped Adam would see it, which was why he picked that specific phrase and explained it--to let Adam know that it wasn’t too late to make amends (not that Adam would have given a fuck even if he did see it).

I love his character design as a teen, and I’m sad that he’s become more respectable-looking (though still hot af) as an adult. I’m a sucker for guys with long hair in anime/manga.

He is absolutely a weeb. He’s made an AI assistant who he calls Carla, which creeps out Joe (in a cute, lovable way, not in an Adam way), and he incorporates her into almost all aspects of his life. Like, he just happens to have an AI-augmented wheelchair handy, why?

He also dresses up like a ninja when he’s skating, goes around in a kimono in his daily life, etc. etc. Okay, maybe the kimono can be excused since he’s a calligrapher (though I’m pretty sure that’s not the norm regardless, except for maybe if the artist is at some sort of exhibition?), but people’s costumes seem to show off who they really are beneath the mask they put on for society. So Cherry secretly wants to be a ninja. xD

I’m not on any specific ship, but if I had to pick one to board, it would be Matchablossom.

Can we please have a spinoff that’s just about Adam, Cherry, and Joe when they’re teenagers?

Snow (Hasegawa Langa)

Frankly, Langa’s only up this high because I love his dynamic/rivalry with Adam. If Adam didn’t exist, he’d be below Joe, maybe below Tadashi.

Not that I don’t like Langa, but he’s just an oblivious skating nerd. He’s skilled and passionate, but I don’t really feel that he really stands out as a standalone character. He’s more of a foil for other characters (mostly Adam and Reki).

I guess what stands out the most to me is his ability to improvise when he’s falling behind, since his skill level is understandably lower than most of the other people he skates against. Like finding alternative pathways to the finish line versus Shadow and Miya, or using Joe’s strength to propel him forward. Or just, like, flying off the edge of a cliff to take a shortcut. That too. xD

His snow motif is pretty cool. (No pun intended.)

And I won’t deny that he’s cute. He’s actually the reason I started watching, because I saw some fanart of him and got curious. Came for the Langa, stayed for the Adam. <3

I feel bad for him for having a jealous jerk as basically his only friend though.

Joe (Nanjo Kojiro)

He’s such a teddy bear. <3

Joe’s the heart to Cherry’s brain, and I adore the way they balance each other out. I love Vitriolic Best Buds.

What surprised me, though, is that Joe seems to have a better understanding of Adam’s current character than Cherry does, since Cherry is so precise and analytical. Though the flashback clarified that some since it’s pretty obvious that Cherry is/was biased where Adam is concerned. Sure, Joe was also friends with Adam back then, but it seems that Cherry was the one most star-struck by Adam.

But Joe obviously knows and accepts that Adam’s changed, unlike Cherry, though he probably doesn’t know the reason why. He seemed to be expecting something to happen during the race, so it didn’t surprise him when it did, though he was sad/disappointed by it. It seemed like he was concerned and wanted to warn Cherry before his race (which is super cute), and when everyone else was flinching from seeing the assault on Cherry, Joe didn’t look away. I don’t think he knew exactly what Adam was going to do (I don’t think anyone did, lol), but he knew Adam was going to do something.

I don’t think he was serious when he said the reason Adam is avoiding their beefs is because he’s afraid he’ll lose, though. Yeah, he wants to race Adam, and he wants to win, but I think he’s more grounded when it comes to Adam, so he probably knows that Adam would beat him if it came down to it. Whereas Cherry legitimately thought he could win if Adam held back.

Also, his skateboard wheels are ridiculous. How do they even work?

Snake (Kikuchi Tadashi)

He got an ask post, yay, so not going to rehash it here.

I really hope that Adam realizes at some point that Tadashi is the only person who really knows and understands him, and comes to appreciate everything that Tadashi’s done for him.

Miya (Chinen Miya)

Such a brat, omg.

I get that he’s a kid, and kids are brats, and so it’s a fairly realistic depiction. I just hate kids. >.>

Pretty much the only time I’ll really like a child character is when they’re precocious as fuck and not child-like at all, which I get defeats the purpose, but that’s me.

Brattiness aside, he is skilled and appreciates Reki standing up to Adam on his behalf, so much so that he’s willing to spend his time training a “slime” just so Reki doesn’t get completely crushed by Adam. And he’s also willing to work with Langa to teach him the most difficult trick in skating (the Caspar Slide) for the same reason.

Ultimately, he’s a good kid, but he’s had some bad experiences that make it harder for him to trust people since he’s afraid they’ll leave him. He’s still willing to try, though, if people will give him a chance.

Also, the one ep when they go on vacation and Miya pretends Joe is his daddy (and Cherry is his mommy, rofl--hi Matchablossom!) to drive away the women Joe’s hitting on... hilarious.

Kyan Reki 

An even bigger brat.

Again, yeah, he’s a teenager and teens are “just like that,” but I hate those kinds of characters.

Just because his friend is a skating genius, he gets all pissy and stops being friends with him? Showing up to cheer Langa on and then completely running away doesn’t redeem him in my eyes. I get that he’s disappointed that he’s not capable of skating at the level of the top skaters and frustrated that Langa surpassed him so easily, but that’s no excuse to take it out on Langa (or anyone else).

And everyone complains about Adam being possessive, but they just gloss over the fact that Reki repeatedly tries to force Langa to promise to not skate against Adam, even roping in their manager, when he knows that Langa likes accepting challenges and has fun doing them. He just wants to keep Langa to himself, and he’s jealous as fuck that Langa is obsessed with skating against Adam.

Langa even explicitly tells him that he’s not racing Adam just because he’s upset about what Adam did to Reki, but because he wants to do it. Which is the exact same fucking reason Reki gives for not listening to Joe and Miya, and Langa supports his decision then. Why can’t Reki do the same?

Yes, he’s traumatized because his friend who introduced him to skating was seriously injured and had to quit skating, and he got hurt skating against Adam, but just like for Adam: YOUR TRAUMA/BACKSTORY DOES NOT JUSTIFY YOUR BEHAVIOR.

Plus, the whole “we’ll never disappear from your sight” that he told Miya? Psych!

Like, seriously. He knows the kid has abandonment issues because people leave him because he’s too good at what he does, and then he just goes ahead and poofs, putting both Miya and Langa through the same exact fucking thing.

Though I’m sure that the power of friendship will give him a miraculous recovery and he’ll build a new board for Langa so Langa can beat Adam before Adam gets hauled off to jail. It’ll probably be a cheesy make-up where Langa says something about how he can only use Reki’s boards, so it’s like they’re skating together when he races or whatever.

I do respect his ability to observe other skaters and make boards that are perfectly suited to them, though. And he knows that he’d be good in that support role. But he wants to be the hero, so he’s suffering from eighth grader syndrome and lashing out because reality doesn’t conform to his wishes.

Shadow (Higa Hiromi)

Just fucking die already, ‘kay?

I don’t even know what to say. He’s all caught up in his “antihero” complex or whatever (I don’t even remember if that’s the right term, and I don’t give a fuck), and he’s got a nasty personality. Like burning Reki’s board or threatening to have a guy tattoo “Dumpster Slut” above his girlfriend’s name.

You really expect me to believe that he’d treat his manager respectfully if they started dating when he does something like that? His polite florist persona is such a sham.

And he’s a shit skater. How the hell is he in the top 8? If they can throw in a random guy we’ve never seen before (Harry), then they could have just as well put in some other trash mob instead of Shadow, who only didn’t get knocked out in the quarterfinal round because he was racing a nobody.

Imo, all of his “cute” little tricks like throwing fireworks at his opponent or shining a laser into their eyes is worse than what Adam does. Once he does that, he relinquishes all control over the situation, so anything could happen, such as his opponent crashing into a wall or falling off a cliff, which could result in serious injuries or even death. On the other hand, Adam always remains in control when he’s trying to throw off his opponent by forcing them to dance with him and freaking them the fuck out by pushing their limits. Even when he’s holding Reki’s head about an inch above the ground, he won’t let Reki brain himself on a rock or something. And even when he smacks Cherry with his skateboard, his attack leaves Cherry conscious and so lightly injured (relative to what could have been) that he doesn’t even need to stay in the hospital. (I don’t think he actually needs a wheelchair, other than probably being a bit woozy from a concussion, maybe. And maybe not even that if Joe isn’t concerned enough to wake him up/keep him from being unconscious.) Yeah, Adam fucks with his opponents, but if they can get over it, they can get back on a board. There’s a good chance that won’t happen if they get in an accident caused by Shadow, other than for anime logic.

“What about Adam’s Love Hugs??” What about them? Yes, he’s not holding on to his opponents to control their falls, but the point of it is to make them flinch and fall backwards, against the line of motion. That naturally will decrease the severity of their physical injuries, unlike when Reki and Harry fall off the course at full speed versus Shadow.

The only reason he doesn’t have a higher body count than Adam (or even a literal body count) is plot convenience, since he’s not the villain.

being an asian fan in the hs fandom is kinda, not great actually. in fact, it not only feels like we’re not here at all, that we’re erased, but its honestly? downright harmful. people treat the trivialization and fetishization of your culture to be,,, like a Big Joak. yall joke about weebs like these people havent been literally grooming and abusing asian girls, like we havent been made fun of enough for Their actions, like we aren't already viewed as the strange punchlines to jokes that still seem somehow acceptable. its somehow funny to joke about how you hate every sign of asian culture that shows up throughout the comics, like how dirk’s kotatsu was dumb and pretentious as if people in japan dont literally live with one and use it every single day!

even asian-coding in characters get swept away in favour of other headcanons. even the megidos, who are as close to canonically asian as they possibly can be in a medium like homestuck, are often drawn white or something completely different altogether. the stridlondes are also heavily asian-coded, and the fans who do pick up on that, who finally feel comforted by someone like them as protagonists? they often just.. give up on that, because they see so little representation in the fandom. (theres only like one popular artist i know of that draws the strilondes asian? but like, hats off to u pal, youre fighting the good fight). also, it seems strange, to be represented so little considering almost 3 billion people on earth is asian, which is, Quite A Lot to be not represented a lot. dont get me wrong, i adore the outpouring of more diverse art of the kids, but a hard truth to swallow is that pocs being weebs/fetishizing asian culture, is just as harmful as white people doing the same. there is a world of difference between japanese dirk, trying to interface with his lost culture by clinging to the most performative and popular parts of it, than another dirk, appropriating people’s cultures because he thinks its funny or interesting based off a show he watched once. i love how people are like "wow the striders like anime and care about traditions and use japanese words and overall just seem like diaspora kids" and the conclusion they draw from that is "clearly,, they cannot be asian" bc a non-asian person being interested in those things is better than an asian person whose interested in their own culture i guess??

in fact, a lot of these narratives are so much more interesting once theyre looked at through their coded lenses!

Dave’s struggle with coming to terms with his emotions strikes such an interesting chord when the striders’ concept of irony and never showing their emotions Correspond so well to the idea of honour/face, where youre not supposed to show that youre Ever Sad or anything that isnt a positive emotion because it shows that youre a Failure and You Failed and that makes you a Bad Person, which is exactly what dave struggles with because hes So Guilty about it, which ties to the guilt and shame a lot of asian people feel about not being able to live up to impossible standards set by their parents, which is another theme we see reflected in all four strilondes. 

rose’s strained relations with her mother are mirrored in so many of our second-generation lives and makes so much more cultural sense when looked at that way. the weird distance you hold from your parents, where you cant look each other in the eyes anymore, because every interaction feels more like a business transaction. you hand in your good grades and praise from teachers, talking about how mature you are, and they return with some present or gift that you don't really want. you dont know anything about them, and they dont know anything about you, Not the person you Actually Are, anyways. but there is a yearning, to be close, to know eachother, but you only feel it in return when its too late. as well as her Obsession to be mature, to be smart and adult-like because thats what shes praised for, because you Need to be academically the best always and that means reading dictionaries until the sun goes down, repeating each word until they are engraved into your mind. always finding competition, subtle or not, because if you are not the winner, what are you?  dirk’s wild performative love of japanese culture (which also, in turn, lead to non-asian fans literally trashing it like it was a funny joke to call someone’s culture lame and stupid) seems like ‘ironic’ weebism, but its also being Exactly the type of over-the-too performative reclaiming of our culture that so many asian diaspora kids do when they’re teens! they feel bad about pushing away their culture as youth, but they’re not quite mature enough to actually care about the rich history and ‘boring’ parts, so they cling to pop culture, to social media and something so much more easily consumable, like anime. which is not even to mention the idea of him trying desperately to connect to a culture that he has never grown up in, but still belonged to by consuming mass amounts of media, being Such an immigrant story. as well as his massive competitive streak and need to make other people as good as he is (but not better), is the type of internalized pressure that a lot of asian kids feel as well. 

and all the stridlondes have various anxieties about not performing well enough, of not living up to a standard that they have set for themselves, feeling like even a single step back or even one mistake is a catastrophic failure that’s branded to you for life. Which is just as much of a mental health thing as it is like,,, an asian thing

Like the pride parade is going on everyone is walking and there’s a small conflict going on in a alleyway next to the parade, which can easily be overseen. There are 3 dumbasses surrounding 2 People, Two best friends, One a Lesbian and the other one a pan boy, both wearing matching dresses.

“Why are you wearing girls clothes?”

“Man up loser!”

The two were already hugging each other tight, in fear of the three suddenly deciding to get violent.

You were known amongst class 1A as being an unapproachable hard ass. 

Which confused the hell out of your classmates, considering you were the number one hero's younger sister.

Growing up with Toshinori as your brother had its ups and downs.

He personally was an amazing brother.

He would do anything for you.

You loved him uncontrollably.

Being the sister of the number one hero had its perks sure, but for the most part nobody truly cared about you.

People only got close to you so they could get closer to Toshinori.

You couldn’t trust anybody that came into your life, so you did the only thing you could think of.

You became closed off and stuck to yourself. You dropped your last name and went strictly by your first name only.  

Getting into the hero course at UA was something you achieved all on your own. You told your brother very specifically to make sure the review board focused on your power alone and not your last name, which thankfully they did.

Your quirk was so different from Toshinori it was a surprise you were event related.

Your quirk was called Storm, with it you could control all forms of weather over vast areas. You were the real life version of Storm from the X-Men comic.

You primarily stuck to using lightning, simply because it was your favorite.

When you got accepted into the hero course your brother was so proud of you, he cooked you a celebratory dinner instead of going out, knowing how you felt about the public.

Your first day you did what you always did, ignored everyone.

You didn’t care what people thought about you, all you wanted was to become an exceptional hero.

You were surprised when nobody recognized you as Toshinori’s sister. You couldn’t help but smile to yourself, hoping this meant you could finally make some real friends.

That was until a green haired boy walked into the class. His eyes going wide as soon as he saw you, running over to you faster than you thought was possible.

“Oh my god! You're All Might’s younger sister aren't you?” He asked excitedly, slightly stuttering over his words.

All of a sudden all eyes were on you and you couldn’t help but scowl at the boy. 

“Let me guess. You're his number one fan and you can’t live another day on this planet without his autograph?” You asked, lathering on the sarcasm. “I guess you better say goodbye to your mommy then, because it’s not going to happen.” 

Everyone was silent as they all stared at you, their mouths hanging open, except for one blonde boy who laughed louder than he should have as he made fun of the kid.

You rolled your eyes and pulled out your book, reading it and ignoring everyone until Aizawa walked in. 

You didn’t know it at the time, but you caught the attention of Shoto Todoroki.

He knew exactly what the icy look on your face was, considering he used it more time than he could count.

He had to physically stop himself from going over to talk to you. 

As the months went by the easier it was for you to come out of your shell.

You even made some friends.

Bakugou was the first person who didn’t care who your brother was. 

You found out later that he was a huge fan, but he never treated you any different.

To him you were just yn, another idiot he went to school with. You were just less of an idiot that everyone else.

You soon became friends with the whole bakusquad and you were thankful that they didn’t treat you any differently either.

You still had a little bit of an attitude with your other classmates, but you were trying.

Shoto hated to admit it, but he was enamored with you.

He would never want to admit it out loud, but he was crushing on you. Hard.

He saw the change in you before you did, and he was so intrigued.

He wished he could be the same as you, and thanks to you and Izuku he tried his best to not care what his dad thought.

He saw how you interacted with your brother and it wasn’t anything like the attitude you gave the rest of your classmates.

You were a big softie. Your love for your friends and family was written all over your face, especially if they got hurt.

Your quirk was one of the best quirks he had ever seen.

You would easily become one of the top heroes when you got older and he couldn’t wait to see the things you accomplished.

One Saturday morning he was getting ready to walk to the training rooms when he saw you outside working on your quirk.

He watched as the storm clouds turned into a blizzard, a tornado, and a hurricane, before the clouds separated and the sun shined through the clouds.

“Your quirk is amazing.” He called out as he walked over to you, handing you the water bottle he had grabbed for himself.

‘Thank you.” You answered as you took the bottle from his hands, taking small sips as you looked over at him. “You have a pretty great quirk yourself Todoroki.”

“Call me Shoto.” He said as he looked up at the sky. “I’ve never seen something quite like it. Can you make it snow and thunderstorm at the same time, or is it just one at a time?” He asked as he sat down on the grass, looking up at you.

“That’s a good question Shoto.” You answered as you looked down at him and smirked. “Let’s find out.”

He watched you as you closed your eyes and concentrated. He couldn’t stop his heart from going a mile a minute as he saw your quirk activate. 

He was a little taken aback when your eyes opened, never seeing you use your quirk up close. 

Your eyes became white as you slowly levitated off the ground. 

Shoto looked up as he watched the sun disappear behind storm clouds. The snow started to fall first before the sky lit up with streaks of lightning. The thunder clouds clapping in the background.

It only lasted for a few minutes before your body lowered to the ground, the clouds opening up and the sun shining once again. 

Shoto looked over at you and couldn’t help himself from smiling. 

“That was amazing.” He gushed as you met his gaze. 

“You think so? I didn’t hold it as long as I wanted.” You asked.

“I think after you practice it some more, you’ll be able to hold it as long as you want.”

“Thanks Sho.” You said as you smiled down at him. “You look like you're about to train. Would you like a sparring partner?” 

His heart jumped to his throat as he looked down, trying to hide his red cheeks. 

“Sure.” He shrugged as he got up off the ground, using his ice to cool his body temperature. 

You walked side by side and spent the rest of the morning sparring against each other.

It was safe to say Shoto’s feelings for you grew even more, and he didn’t know it yet but your feelings for him grew that day as well.

His mother is a perfectionist and maybe he’s kinda scared of her, so he tries to be exactly like she wants him to be. it’s kinda hard to deal with how she constantly tells him to get a girlfriend... especially when he’d rather have a boyfriend. but everyone hates him (especially Zackarey), who would ever accept him for that? well,, maybe not everyone... 

Jacob Jones

god i fucking love him so much you just dont get it Desmond’s best (and only) “”friend”” Jake may or may not be kinda maybe really in love with him. Somehow, Dezzy’s completely oblivious to the fact that he stares at him during classes and how he goes out of his way to make him like him. His sister constantly obsesses about how cute they’d be and writes fanfiction of the two, making everyone who reads them severely uncomfortable. everyone can tell he’s a pushover just from simply looking at him, but no one can deny he’s too sweet for his own good.

Analyzing Hero Costumes: Girls of Class 1-A

My obsession has spiraled out of control. Let me roast analyze these babes. I’m dumb. I’m tired. I’m gay. Let’s do this.

Warning: I’m a cynical, lazy-ass critic with no consistent taste. Don’t expect a fair analysis.

(This is just for fun, please don’t get mad at me for being an undereducated weeb! I went into writing this with only the knowledge I’ve obtained through watching the show and reading the manga. I don’t know everything about the costumes, and I don’t want to either)!

Ashido Mina (Pinky)

Babe, imma be frank here.

I love her, but—

that shit ugly.

Funcionality: Mina’s quirk (Acid) comes from her hands and feet. If I remember correctly, she has passages in her shoes that her...foot..acid.....can pass through, and her hands are fully exposed. So her costume is “practical”, and works with her quirk.

Design: As I said before, that shit ugly. The body suit has the worst pattern and color combination I’ve ever seen. (Like if Sully from Monster’s Inc. was turned into a cow and hated it). Her tiddies should be popping out any second now, which isn’t great. Her weird armpit vest with it’s stupid fluffy collar is quite reminiscent of Hawks’ jacket, which leads me to believe that their costumes were made by the same designer. (Many of the designers in the BNHA universe put calling-cards in their costumes). Her white mask is pointless, but at least it matches the fluff on her collar. Her boots, though they have a purpose, are ugly as sin. The pale yellow doesn’t match any other piece in the ensemble, and the Dabi-scar colored purple makes me sad. Hate that.

Total Score: 2/10

Her costume does almost nothing to enhance her quirk, and it’s hideous. The only reason it got two points was because of the shoe holes, and the possibility that it’s connected to my boy Hawks.

Seriously, this is some Seasame Street lookin-ass bullshit.

No hate on Mina, she’s lovely, but her taste is atrocious. (see: her bedroom).

Asui Tsuyu (Froppy)

Okay, okay bitch I see you.

I’m here for this.

Funcionality: Tsu’s quirk (Frog) requires a decent amount of flexibility from clothing. Spandex works for that I guess. Normally, I would automatically fail this costume for having goddamn toe “socks”, but for Tsuyu they’re nessecary. Having her individual toes chiseled out helps her grip onto shit when she’s kicking ass. It looks like her gloves are attached to her body suit, which is rad, but I’m not sure what the purpose of that waist belt-thing is. If anything, the chunky pieces of her costume would make it harder for her to swim. I also have no fucking clue what that head piece is. I once thought they were like binoculars or something, but she’s never put them on her face so...they wouldn’t fit....on her face..huh.....I’m so stupid bro.

Design: Lets start with a positive, the color scheme slaps. Everything goes together, and the dark green even matches her hair. The bodysuit has a cool structure, and I can definitely appreciate the slight turtleneck and boot-esq feature; however, the chunky wrist pieces, belt, neck/chest-thing, and head piece confuse me. I guess they’re there for fashion, gutter fashion. Shitty crap face fashion. Ugly butthole fashion. FILTH! I need to calm down holy shit—

Total Score: 6/10

The look honestly only lost points for the random ass statement pieces. Water terrains are Tsuyu’s specialty, and a clunky outfit would certainly slow her down underwater.

The toe shit, turtleneck, thigh-high “boots”, and color scheme are pretty dope though.

(Also, she only has three toes but frogs have four).

Hagakure Toru (Invisible Girl)

So, here’s the real question.

Is she naked?

Short answer: I dunno.

Funcionality: So she’s invisible, right? A good costume would emphasize that. I can only assume she wears the boots and gloves for comfort and so her allies can see where she is. If she wants to go full invisible, she just has to take them off. At one point, it was confirmed that she was topless during the sports festival, but we’ve had no further updates on her costume. A few people have theorized that her costume is made of her hair (assuming she has hair). We know that this is possible, as Mirio’s costume is made of his hair so he can remain clothed while his quirk is activated. The only issue would be making an outfit out of something you can’t see. If I were Toru, I would choose to fight nude because, I-uh...hmm, I-I can do what I want SHUT UP!

Design: There’s not much to critique here. The shade of blue on her gloves is cute, and the pink stripes don’t make much of an impact. The shoes are just about the most boring thing I’ve ever seen, like why are they beige??? What are they supposed to match? I just—ugh, beige??? What the fuck Horikoshi...smh.

Total Score: 5/10

Since we don’t know if the “hair-costume” thing is canon, I can’t rate it any higher. If that is true, it would be an 7/10. The outfit does its job, but I’m bored and beige sucks.

Jirou Kyouka (Earphone Jack)

She’s cute!

Look at her little face, d’awwwweeeeee!

Funcionality: The lovely Kyouka’s quirk (Earphone Jack), makes absolutely no sense to me. Like, I get that she can hear better and can eavesdrop really well, but how does she...make loud noises??? With the speakers??? Plugging earbuds into a speaker doesn’t make............noise, and the speakers aren’t part of her body. Whatever, back to the analysis. The speakers on her hands and calves amplify sound somehow, and her earlobes are exposed. It’s works.

Design: The speaker boots are basic, but acceptable. She’s got some comfy looking black pants, and a trendy salmon-colored top. Her jacket is iconic, and she’s wearing a choker. (+1,000,000 points for that). The white gloves don’t match shit, but they’re fingerless so I’ll let it slide. Her headphones almost match....meh. I don’t care. (+10 for the face paint).

Total Score: 8/10

Listen, I’d give her a 10 but this costume just isn’t....gimmicky, enough for me? She’s a superhero for fucksake! Now’s the time to dress your goddamn best! The look is practical, and seems to be her taste, I just disagree with her choices. Sue me. I’d either wanna fight in the wackiest most dangerous getup you’ve ever seen, or completely naked. Either way, I’m getting arrested. Jirou needs to get on my fucking level.

Uraraka Ochaco (Uravity)

Funcionality: Ochaco’s quirk (Zero Gravity) only requires her hands to work. More specifically, her fingertips. Uh, yeah those are some nude fingertips. *Ahem* moving on. Actually wait, since she often uses her quirk on herself it would be helpful for her to eliminate as much extra weight as possible, so I’m hoping that all of the accessories are hollow. They better be, or I’m gonna start throwing hands with Kohei Horikoshi.

Design: When Ochaco first got her hero costume she was surprised by how tight it was, even saying that it wasn’t supposed to be that tight. Bitch, how could it have been loose? I don’t...fuck it. I like the colors, I like the boots a lot actually, but who cares about that, I wanna talk about her fucking chastity belt. Who she keepin out? (Jesus Christ she’s a child, tone it down Mari). Do you think it’s comfortable to walk around with a chunk of plastic on your crotch?! I don’t know, seriously, is it? Maybe she’s trying to hide something...a hip dip perhaps?! Jk hip dips are stupid, that’s how bones work, don’t be ashamed. Her wrist...spheres... have handles on them, no comment, and whereas I usually LOVE chokers—that one is stupid and I hate it. Curvy little shit.

Total Score: 8/10

I like it overall, but some things are just too strange to overlook. (i.e. the chastity belt, wrist cuff handles, and the ugly choker). This costume doesn’t really scream Uraraka to me either. It’s a bit unoriginal to me.

I just don’t love it.

Yaoyorozu Momo (Creati)

Funcionality: Momo’s quirk (Creation) does require quite a bit of skin to be exposed, but I’m not sure why that skin HAS to be her boobs. She’s got thighs, a stomach, a back, an upper chest, and arms. Why do her Russian nesting dolls have to come out of her tiddies??? Okay, actually, she doesn’t make that many things with her tits. So....why’re they out? This costume definitely lets her quirk run wild, maybe too much.

Design: The red is pretty, and I can tolerate the sandy yellow. Her shoes are unimportant, so let’s just gloss over those. Now, WHAT is that thing? A makeshift, tan colored, plastic tube mini...skirt? I know she has a shelf on her ass that she carries books on, but doesn’t she have a cellphone? Google? Can’t she just remember the molecular make-up of a cannon? (Because she only makes cannons now for some reason). Have we ever even seen her reading those books? Can she read? A large portion of her midsection/chest is exposed up to another one of those weird chest pieces and a neck jacket. Maybe she should cut the neck coat off and glue it to her tiddies.

Total Score: 1/10

Listen, Horikoshi clearly understands what Momo’s costume needs, but he has no idea how to make that. This outfit IS inappropriate, no matter how you look at it. She’s a minor, and I don’t like the idea that she’s running around 75% naked. The only part of this that I like is the shade of red. That’s not good.

I really like Momo, she’s a good character, it’s unfortunate that we have to sexualize her so much. Can’t girls just be smart without also being eye candy for creepy 30 year old weebs?

29. Ooooh baby I sure did. My friends hated this boy named JJ. He was a typical bad boy, got me sneaking out, making out in odd places, doing more adventurous stuff 😏 in public, and he was a smoker who dropped out of school at 15 who was often kicked out of his parents' house (one time was cause of me, we were caught in his shower). My friends hated him soooooooooo much. The day we broke up they were cheering and dancing around my room.

50. Uniforms and nerds. Everyone of my ex's got something in common and that's the military and they were some type of nerd. Army and Marines and navy uniforms are panty droppers to me. Just see my husband in his dress blues and I'm fucking ready to go! Like please sir, bend me over and give me 50 hard thrusts. Put a fucking baby in me now, sir, oh yes, sir! And then talk nerdy to me? Oh man, I want all your weeb babies. I'm nerdy too so having someone who can geek out with me and can talk to me about their own obsessions just makes me feel super connected to them. Japanese Phrases/Proverbs

Pardon me if the Japanese Kanji characters are wrong as I’m still learning Japanese. And on that note, please do advise me so I can rectify the mistake. Will update the list over time as I continue learning new things to share with you.

Wabi Sabi (侘寂) - there’s no exact textbook definition of this but based on my understanding, it’s about appreciating the present moment as it won’t last forever and accepting imperfections as you are only a human being. 

Shinrin Yoku (森林浴) - forest bathing or forest therapy, contemplating the beauty of nature to reflect on our own inner nature. It reduces blood pressure and stress, increases your energy and focus in your daily life.

Musha Shugyō (武者修行) - a samurai’s pilgrimage based on a warrior called shugyosha, wandering the land practicing and honing his skills without the protection of his family or school, which includes short stint mercenary works.

Hara Hachi Bu (腹八分) - means putting your chopsticks down when your stomach is 80% full, it’s about not needing much to live a good life and be grateful for what you have, share it with those you love and the rest will come.

An interesting kanji in the Japanese language is the character  道, read as ‘michi’ which means ‘path’. But when used with other characters it means, ‘the way’. Below are some examples:

Sadō Chadō (茶道) - the way of the tea or tea ceremony. The foundation is a set of four principles, harmony (和) ‘Wa’, respect (敬) ‘Kei’, purity (清) ‘Sei’ and tranquility (寂)’Jaku’ or  ‘Wa Kei Sei Jaku’ ( 和敬清寂).

Bushidō (武士道) - the way of the warriors, a set of values that is expected of a samurai such as sincerity, frugality, loyalty, martial arts mastery and honor until death.

Shodō (書道) - the way of writing, or Japanese calligraphy which originated from Chinese calligraphy so most of the techniques and principles are actually similar in many ways.  Judo (柔道) - the way of gentleness. I haven’t figure out why it’s call it that yet.

Japanese Proverbs

‘Nanakorobi Yaoki’ (七転び八起き) or ‘Fall down seven times, get up eight’. The idea is not to give up. It counts the first time you get up after you fall, reminding us that we need to try first in order to have a chance. Even if you fail, you can try again and again.

Ichiyo Ochite Tenka No Aki O Shiru ( 一葉落ちて天下の秋を知る) - with the fall of a single leaf we know that autumn is here. It’s about recognizing change which is inevitable in life. The changing seasons in Japan is reminder that life is constantly changing and we have to accept and adapt accordingly to survive. 

It also means that you should appreciate the present as the present won’t last forever, be it the good and the bad. Things WILL change. So if you are in a bad situation, don’t worry too much as it won’t last forever. If you are in a good situation, enjoy it for as long as you can as it too, won’t last forever. 

I’ve learned all these from a book called, Wabi Sabi by Beth Kempton. I highly recommend it you are interested to know about Japanese culture and philosophy as a whole as it provides a good summary without boring you to death with monotonous way of writing that you feel you are reading a diary.

Personal Note

I won’t deny that I’ve been called a “weeb” or “otaku” simply because I am obsessed with Japanese culture, history and philosophy. But they do not understand the spiritual effect it has when learning about them, the more I learn, the more I understand myself and the world. After I got hit by life tragedies recently, I was at my lowest and most of my friends left me because no one wants to be with someone who is problematic and depressed. It was during this time that I learn to be strong alone and reading about Samurais help me through it into a better and stronger person today. I went for a trip to Japan for the first time in my life, and my journey there was enlightening, visiting the temples and shrines, learning about their religion. I was amazed at how their philosophy can actually be relevant to our modern life in achieving inner peace and how they actually respect and worship nature. Growing up with a religion that over-emphasis on sins, I find this new take on healing and cleansing yourself into a better person to be very refreshing. It’s not about who you were in the past, but what you are at present and who you want to be that will shape your future self.
