I started a soup exchange with a friend awhile ago. It wasn't intentional, she made me some soup when I was feeling sick once. And then rather than returning her tupperware empty I made some soup to send back to her. And we've been exchanging this tupperware container of soup ever since.

So we recently celebrated Friendsgiving, and the hostess graciously gifted me her turkey carcass, which I'm using to make my second ever batch of homemade stock.

I think this is going to become a major hobby of mine. I love it for so many reasons, but the biggest are probably

I'm turning food scraps that would have been thrown away into a a delicious and nutritious meal. It makes me feel proud of myself!

I feel like a witch with a bubbling cauldron brewing a powerful mixture. It's living out my childhood fantasies.

It will lead to soup, which is objectively the best kind of food.

Today, I'm making soup stock. I save all the trimmings from the meat that I use to make meals. I put it in baggies and freeze them until I get enough to make stock. This way, I don't waste food, and I get some delicious stock for soups and stews and whatever else I choose to make. I'm making a chicken stock and a beef stock today. I'll add vegetables and seasonings to give it flavor. Usually, I also save my ends and trimmings from the vegetables that I use in cooking so I can add them to the stock. Right now, I'm out of frozen vegetable trimmings so I'll add fresh veggies to my stock. I love doing this because it helps me not waste food. This way, I use almost every part of the meat and vegetables with which I cook. It's very economical and it tastes great!! I'll boil these in water for several hours, and the result will be a flavorful and delightful stock. I'm gonna use some of this stock to make a lovely soup this week. I love soup, but that's a rant for another day. 😁🤗😍

RANDOM SILM CHARACTERS FAVE SOUPS (because it's finally getting cold where I live)

Fëanor: tomato soup. No grilled cheese. Nerdanel (and the rest of his family) thinks this is terrifying. Solid color (and red), he likes the consistency.

Nerdanel: beefy stew. A very hearty soup for someone who is probably very strong. Gotta get that protein for chiseling out some marble 💪💪

Maedhros: Zuppa Toscana. Flavorful, a lil spicy, and has some potatoes in it. Perfect.

Maglor: chicken noodle with tri color rotini. My dad likes the tri color rotini, and Maglor gives dad vibes

Celegorm: no salt added bone broth. Do NOT EVER eat any soup he offers.

Curufin: French onion. Bougie guy. Likes to take the bread off the top and eat it separate. Celebrimbor thinks he's crazy.

Caranthir: miso soup. Add spicy soup dumplings. Was begrudgingly taught how to make soup dumplings in his youth by Finwe, forgot, and was then re-taught by Haleth.

Amrod: chili. Warm and filling, likes it with tortilla chips, cheese, sour cream, the whole shebang. He does not usually like beans, but will tolerate them for chili.

Amras: corn chowder; nice and creamy, preferably with some thick toast to dip it in. He likes it thin, not thickened with a flour/corn starch slurry, so it's kinda weird.

Celebrimbor: potato soup. All the way. He does not skimp on the garnishes of bacon and cheese: to him, they are not garnishes, but added, necessary ingredients (me too, bro).

I had potato soup for dinner because by brother did not want the zuppa toscana that I wanted to make.
