Saw you were taking requests and decided to drop on in! I’ve been really trying to push the “Leon loves goths” agenda and just wanted to see if you had an ideas for cute rookie!Leon having the hots for a goth. You can make it as sfw or nsfw as you want. I just can’t stop thinking about smothering him in black lipstick kiss marks ahh.
ROOKIE! LEON KENNEDY & GOTH CHICK
∿ warn . nsfw under cut, riding, tit sucking, leon calls you mommy!
this is a drabble! so the quality isn’t very good :(( vaguely proof read too so WAAA BUT I HOPE YOU ENJOY! 3k words :33 when i tell you i CHEERED when i saw this in my inbox, i’m being so fr! i’m a proud goth so seeing the goth chick agenda being spread.. UGH! the dream don’t play. goth girl x leon is so real.. WRITING RULES | PINNED
when leon first saw you, he couldn’t look away. he really did try to tear away his gaze from you, but he physically couldn’t help but ogle at your outfit and overall disposition. he’s never seen someone with that sense of style you had outside of media — he vaguely knows what goths are, he’s seen goths displayed in movies and shows, like nancy downs in the craft, or late at night when mtv played the cure.
it was surprising to see you in raccoon city, with clothing that made it seem like you had just stepped out of a funeral and heavy eyeliner that made you resemble the dead.
in a midwestern small town, you don’t often see people with alternative fashion, and seeing you in full gothic attire was like finding a needle in a haystack.
it was almost funny how mundane setting was, leon had just stepped inside the local coffee shop near the police station to grab some coffee before his shift, and here you were, tucked away in the corner of the shop idly reading a book. he would’ve expected to see you at the local hot topic or the morgue, but no, you were just.. reading.
your nose was stuck inside a stephen king novel, carrie, leon thinks — he couldn’t make out the cover words as he stood by the cashier counter.
you were listening to music too, leon saw the cassette resting on the table and the headphones that covered your ears, he wondered what were you listening to. the cure? honestly, that’s the only gothic band he knows, he mainly focuses on listening to grunge, maybe the NSYNC when he needs a change of pace. would you hate that? frown down at him because he likes the occasional boy band? he hopes not.
leon was snapped out of his thoughts when the barista called out to him, “sir, can i help you?” she asked sweetly, tensing in surprise, leon looked back at the woman and cleared his throat. “oh, uh, yeah!” he said quickly.
after giving the barista his order, he paused, glancing back at you. you still read, blissfully unaware of his glances, “hey, does she come here often?” leon whispered as he turned to face the barista, subtly gesturing over to you. the barista raised her eyebrow as she looked over leon’s shoulders to you. “occasionally, but only at night.. some of my workers are convinced she’s like a vampire or something.” the woman laughed, mocking you as she looked back at leon. “what? is she scaring you, officer?” she teased, a small grin coming up to her lips.
leon shook his head, “no, no—“ he paused, “..what did she order?” he asked, realizing how stupid he might look.
the barista’s grin faltered, not expecting that response.
“uh.. vanilla coffee, why?” she questioned.
“can i add that to my order?” leon asked, he wanted to talk to you, and he wanted to seem as natural as possible to not seem like some creep.
the barista paused as she glanced back at you, “oh, yeah! yeah, of course, is that all?” she asked as she took her notepad out again. leon nodded his head, raising his hand to scratch the back of his neck, “uh..yeah, ma’am, thank you.” he said quietly, nodding his head at her once more to show his gratitude before he took out his wallet.
after paying, leon stood by the counter, stealing glances over at you. once the coffees were ready, leon perked up and took them, walking over to your table.
once he reached your table, leon cleared his throat, holding the two steaming cups of coffee as he thought about what to say.
“excuse me?” he called out, hoping to get your attention from the book without having to stand there awkwardly. he had one mission tonight: to get your number.
while you read, you noticed how a figure had come up to you by your peripheral vision. taking your attention away from your reading, you looked up to see who was bothering you. you weren’t expecting to lock eyes with a police officer, it was the last thing you expected. tensing, you were startled, why was there a police man looking down at you? you hadn’t been a disturbance to the shop.
furrowing your eyebrows, you put your book down and took off your headphones before pausing your cassette.
“can i help you?” you asked, distaste clear in your features.
leon just stared, baby blue eyes taking in how pretty your makeup was. it wasn’t full traditional gothic glam, yet the detail in your eyeliner and perfectly coated black lipstick was impressive. leon bit the inside of his cheek before he took in a deep breath and shifted, “uh,” what was he supposed to say? “sorry, i was watching you earlier—“ horrible start, leon! “— and i just think you’re pretty, i like your..makeup and clothes.” he stammered. god, get it together, kennedy!
you paused, the tension in your shoulders releasing, that’s not what you expected at all.
as someone with alternative fashion, you’ve had your fair share of problems with people of authority. the world seems to love assuming that you’re satanic and plan to burn down churches, you’re nothing more than a girl that enjoys indulging in gothic media. from songs, to books, to movies, and make up. it’s just who you are.
nonetheless, having a cop, out of all people, compliment you was endearing.
you eyed the chubby cheeked cop, noticing the two cups of coffee in his hands. he was cute, with those bright blue eyes and preppy look, “aw, thanks.” you began, a small smile curling on your lips.
“what are the two coffees for?” you mused, your eyebrows raising in interest as you looked at the cups.
leon pursed his lips and glanced away, damn, why was he was acting bashful? looking back at you quickly, he let out a breathless chuckle, “i got one for you,” he said, offering you the cup. “thought it could help break the ice.”
you reached out and took the cup off his hands, a small laugh leaving your lips, this guy was charming.
“it’s working,” you mused before putting the carton cup to your lips, you took a small sip, a hum of delight leaving your lips as the warm liquid touched your tongue. vanilla, your favorite. “how did you know i liked vanilla?” you questioned.
leon shifted, “lucky guess?” he said, deciding not to mention he asked the cashier.
squinting, you nodded before putting the cup down. “so.. what do you want officer?” you asked, wanting to know the motive behind his actions, leon moved his hand up to scratch behind his neck. “i was hoping to get your number?” he said, looking at you like a hopeful puppy.
“you want my number?”
“yeah, i wanna get to know you better.”
a small smirk curled on your lips, “alright, officer.” you said, reaching into your bag, you slipped out a pen before reached for the table napkins.
leon watched intently, you swore his eyes seemed to be sparkling.
“i don’t know your name.” you pointed out while scribbling your number down onto the napkin, leon straightened up, “oh, right.. leon kennedy.” he introduced himself, glancing over at his digital watch. leon mentally winced as he realized he was already late to work.
nodding, you finished writing your number before standing up. “alright, leon, i’ll wait for your call.” you hummed, glancing at him with a small smirk before grabbing your bag and coffee. handing him the napkin, you walked away, leaving him staring at you like a lost puppy.
you were so pretty and confident, an air of mystery followed you that made leon want more.
taking the napkin in his hand, he read it.
xxx-xxx-xxxx — call me ;)
just then he realized, he didn’t know your name.
your room was chilly, closer by nine inch nails playing in the background, the song was muffled and quiet, leon’s focus was completely on you.
his lips were pressed against yours, making out with you sloppily, a moan slipped past his lips as the two of you kissed. his hands were wrapped around your body while you straddled his lap. leon’s body was hot, you were taking the lead with this and he didn’t mind — your body pressed against his while your arms were wrapped around his neck.
the kiss was eager and messy, leon’s hands resting against your back as they clutched the back of your lacy black bra, shaky hands trying to work on taking off your bra.
once oxygen began to come between the two of you, you pulled back with a gasp, a string of saliva connecting your lips before you pulled back, your hands moving to cup his face as you looked down at him. panting, leon’s eyes locked with yours, your black lipstick smeared, coating his bruised lips.
a small smile curled on your lips before you aided him with unclasping your bra, quickly tossing it to the side, your tits perking in full display. “like ‘em?” you hummed, moving your hands to cup your breasts and push them up, leon’s eyes widened when he noticed two barbells adorning your perky nipples — your nipples were pierced and his cock was aching.
nodding like an idiot, leon shuddered, “y-yeah.” he confirmed, his hands moving to cup your breasts, greedy hands squeezing the mounds of fat, watching as the fat poked through the gaps between his fingers. he groped them like a hormonal teenage boy that’s never had a face full of tits before.
“they’re soft..” leon mumbled, squeezing and fondling.
letting out a huffing laugh, you plucked his greedy hands away from your perky tits and reached down to his pants, his denim jeans pressing tightly against his clothed cock.
shuddering, leon glanced down with wide eyes as your smaller hands palmed his cock.
a soft moan left leon’s lips, his hips twitching upward against your touch, eager for more. you moved your hand up to the zipper of his pants and expertly undid the button and zipper, leon wondered how many people you’ve been with before him. your movements were eager and precise, you had experience — it made leon’s heart tumble as he realized he didn’t match your level, yet a blossoming excitement filled his tummy.
you were going to make him putty in your hands and he was excited.
hooking your fingers on the elastic band of his pants and underwear, you tugged down the fabrics, a shaky gasp leaving leon’s lips as he felt his cock spring up from the restraints.
his throbbing cock stood proudly, the tip sticky with pre-cum while the tip blushed a rosy color.
your hand wrapped around his cock, giving him slow pumps before your gaze locked with his, “you have a pretty dick,” you mumbled, your lips curling up in a playful smile.
leon trembled, his hands moving back to clutch the black comforter of your bed. leon’s cheeks burned red as he looked down at your hand as you stroked his cock. looking up at you, he shuddered, “b-baby,“ he mumbled, “m’need you.” leon babbled.
“yeah, baby?” you mused, slipping your hand away from his cock to nestle yourself properly on his lap.
“you need me?” you repeated.
leon nodded his head, baby blue eyes lidded as he stared at you.
“s’much, please.”
you bit your bottom lip and hummed, moving to grasp his cock again before moving your hand down to your panties and pushing the fabric aside, quickly adjusting yourself above his aching cock, you lowered yourself, his tip kissing your folds.
leon was a pretty sight, he already looked fucked out and you haven’t even put his cock in, there was something about your boyfriend looking so shaky and needy under your touch that made your cunt throb. your pussy was wet and sticky, eager to feel him around your warm walls.
leon’s hands moved to your hips, his large hands squeezing the fat of your hips eagerly.
“c’mon, please, baby— please.” he pleaded, trying to roll his hips up to try and slip his cock inside your pussy.
“aw,” you smirked, tilting your head to the side, “relax, i’ve got you.” you teased, babying him.
in one swift movement, you slipped down onto his cock, a small moan of relief leaving your lips as your cunt sucked leon’s shaft eagerly. you’ve a handful of dicks inside you before, so it wasn’t uncomfortable, but leon’s body trembled.
feeling your warm walls hug his girth snugly made leon see stars.
he threw his head back as a choked moan left his lips, his eyes shutting tightly as he got accustomed to the feeling. holy shit.
panting, he squeezed your hips tightly, leaving crescent shaped marks on your skin as he dug his nails into your flesh.
“f-fuck—“ leon stammered, his eyes fluttering open and meeting your gaze. his breathing was shaky and you haven’t even moved yet — he really didn’t have much experience. leon has fucked before, he slept with his ex-girlfriend every now and then but her libido was low and leon was hormonal, the most solace he got was a hefty amount of lotion and his fist, but this? this was fucking brain altering.
slowly, you began to roll your hips again his, a soft breath leaving your lips as you felt his girthy cock push against your walls, savoring the feeling.
letting your hands rest against leon’s chest, you dug your black manicured nails against his pale skin. leon wasn’t shy about his pleasure, the moans leaving his lips were needy, whiny, and loud.
“like that?” you moaned, glancing down at him as your hips bounced against his, his cock slipping in and out of your pretty pussy, the tip pressing flush against your cervix, giving it kisses with each roll of your hips.
“y-yes,“ he gasped.
each roll of your hips felt like a surge of electricity slipping through leon’s veins, “sgood—“ he slurred, clenching his jaw as he let out a heavy breath. his grip on your hips remained tight and firm, his hips rolling up against your own, desperately trying to match your pace, but it was sloppy.
you let out a soft sigh, moving up to cup his face in your hands, leon’s gaze moved up to your face, big blue puppy dog eyes meeting yours.
smirking, you moved your chest to his face, moving his head against your plush tits.
getting the message, leon eagerly popped one of your pierced nipples into his mouth, his warm tongue pressing and flicking your bud like a baby. he moved his hands up to your waist, holding you close while he suckled eagerly.
shuddering, you let out a moan as leon sucked on your tits.
continuing to bounce on his fat cock, leon was seeing stars. being able to suck on your fat tits while your cunt actively sucked his cock back inside was making his brain fuzzy while a tight coil began to form inside his tummy.
he moaned against your skin, his balls beginning to tighten while his cock throbbed.
“gonna cum, m’gonna cum, mommy—“ he moaned, his cheek pressed against your tit while his saliva coated his skin.
he was too pussydrunk to realize he called you that, but you heard him. your eyebrows raised in surprise, “mommy?” you mused, a small smirk curling in your lips, “gonna cum for mommy?” you teased, moving your hand to the back of his head, your finger tangling between the locks of his hair. you pulled on his hair, pushing him away from your tits to look into his eyes.
leon nodded eagerly, his hips rolling against your hips.
“yes, mommy.” he gasped.
a small laugh left your lips before you let of of his hair and continued to bounce on his cock, “go ahead then, cum for mommy.” you babied, pressing your lips against his forehead, your black lipstick staining his skin.
leon moaned, his eyes rolling back as his lips parted, his lips were glossy with his saliva as his hands moved down to your hips. he gripped your body tightly as he began to maneuver you, guiding your hips against his as he fucked his hips upward.
his movements were sloppy, leon’s brain zeroing in on chasing his high.
the coil in his tummy began to tighten, he was desperate, forcing you up and down his cock like you were nothing but a pocket pussy.
you were surprised by the sudden change of pace, sometimes you forget that leon is much stronger than he seems. gasping, you felt your cunt get fucked with each thrust upward, your tits bouncing at the force while the sound of your pussy squelching around his cock got louder.
whimpering, leon bit his bottom lip harshly, he was right at his peak, and with one final thrust, he pulled you down onto his cock before his cum spurted out.
his tip nuzzled right against your battered cervix, his cum filling your pretty pussy up. thick, sticky, and milky.
leon’s back arched, his toes curling while his body trembled. he gasped and panted, a deep groan leaving his lips. he hasn’t cum that hard in forever, actually— he doesn’t think he’s ever cum that hard, his head was swirling while his body shook with the aftershock of his climax.
you let out a small moan when leon slammed you down onto his cock, your breathing steadying as he filled your cunt up with his cum.
after a few seconds, you felt leon’s cock slowly getting soft inside you, but you didn’t make any attempts to move. “leon?” you mused, feeling leon nuzzle against your chest again.
“yeah?”
you hummed, slowly moving to roll your hips against his again, his body immediately tensing as his sensitive cock got rubbed against. he squeezed you and gasped out a choked breath, wanting to stop you, needing a break to get down from his high, but the words were stuck in his throat.
“you’re getting me a plan b later.” you moaned, smirking as you felt him tremble.

Am I the only one who can’t watch any older episodes, or do anything else, at the moment and can only keep re-watching the premiere? It’s taking up 99% of my brain (the other 1% involves baby animals).
There were so many amazing moments between all of the characters: the Dads and Nancy, George and Nick, Bess and Ryan, George and Carson, Nancy and Nick, Nancy and Ryan.
Nancy and Ace - I could never have imagined that we would get three amazing scenes of them together, two almost kisses, 2 glass breakings, Ace getting arrested, Ace taking charge TWICE - with the partygoers (that whistle!) and when he won’t take no for answer when he knows Nancy’s lying to him. All in the first episode.
And then a super interesting mystery - murder boarding, zombies, town history, maps, and Drew Crew shenanigans at The Claw, the police station, and in the woods.
I loved all the little moments - social media star Nick getting all the likes (poor awkward Ace, but SCRUBS), Nick (who may be MVP in this episode) sipping from his cup like Grogu, Ryan remembering star gazing with Lucy, CHUNKY VELEZ, Bess and Addy PDA.
We also got some great callbacks: Ace carrying boxes like it’s his job (Tom Swift and DetectiveCon eps.), Nancy forgot the CIDER (callback to 301 and Ace offering to help her with the cider), Ace confessing how mad he is at Nancy (201 and “Just because I’m mad at you”) - BOTH from season premieres!!! I’m so impressed with the long game the writers are playing.
Now touching on a few early BTS photos and what we got in the episode:
So we’ve finally learned who the mystery lady was from Maddison’s creepy woods golf cart ride back in July:
Erin Cummings plays the new police chief. Glad we have a woman Chief - so far she’s just condescending, but I suspect she may have secrets.
Note there was another blond actress listed on IMDB for episode 1 who I mentioned in an earlier blog, but she’s been removed. Maybe she’ll show up in a later episode.
So now we know this is Tristan’s boat!
This was the day it was 100 degrees F and they had to shut down production. At least Henry was dressed for the occasion! I enjoyed the humor of this scene, and Henry is adorable. My heart is already breaking for the inevitable (hopefully temporary) parting of Nancy and Ace due to the curse, though. But keeping an open mind (as I keep repeating to myself !).
Of course now we also know what was on Nancy’s phone that Kennedy erased - zombie arm would have been my third guess at least 🧟♀️. Loved all of the new fits, and the friendships, and that final scene, just everything.
I’ve run out of room for more photos so ending here. Will try to do an Episode 2 post before it airs, if not will do one after. Cannot wait!!!!

three things i would like to know:
-favorite way to treat yourself?
-what's your favorite thing about nancy? ramble to me about our girl if you so please
-favorite player on your aus football (SOCCER) team?
favorite way to treat yourself?
i am such a “treat yourself” kind of person, especially in the form of retail therapy and also chocolate
what's your favorite thing about nancy? ramble to me about our girl if you so please
I do so please, I will do just that, there are so many things to love about our tall queen! I think my overall top favourite would have to be her personality and sense of humour. I love the way she's so deeply and unapologetically herself, I think that's a quality that should always be admired in a person
nancy strikes such a good balance between serious (in her work ethic) and unserious in her personality and sense of humour, which is such a fine line to walk, but she does it well.
then also the way she so deeply and passionately cares for those around her, even to the point of meddling where necessary to bring tarlos back together when she could see they were both hurting being apart and it looked like it could be their last chance, she's such a fiercely loyal friend. Also her attitude towards the 'capitalist cesspool' that was paragon, amazing, love it, 10/10 we love an anticapitalist queen
favorite player on your aus football (SOCCER) team?
I will not be picking one singular favourite from the matildas. I refuse. so in no particular order I will give you four of my favourite national FOOTBALL team players.
mackenzie arnold, australia’s minister of defence, an absolute legend in goal keeping and has been amazing at raising awareness about hearing loss and making
alanna kennedy, she’s so good in defence but also such a versatile player, and definetly has been saving the tillies this olympics, scoring in the aus vs zambia game.
michelle heyman, who returned to international football to take sam kerr's place as a striker while she's out with an acl injury and is in such good form despite having been retired from international football, it astounds me she hasn't been in either starting line up so far at the olympics given how well she's been playing.
and finally, hayley raso, her whole story and comeback to professional football is SO inspiring, going from a spinal injury and re-learning to walk to a return to top level professional football in like six months is absolutely incredible, and she wears hair bows every match so her grandma can always see which one is her when watching on tv which is so sweet.
anonymously message me (3) things you want to know about me.
#in summation fuck capitalism and all hail tall sapphics#nancy being a tall sapphic and all my favourite matildas being tall lesbians totally doesn't say anything about me i swear#there are just a lot of tall lesbians playing for the matildas#ask games#im not sorry for rambling about nancy or the matildas

Usually in m/f ships, i want the male to be a total simp and soft for their girl. BUT in Nace's case seeing Nancy who is usually reserved and guarded be so soft and amused and in love with Ace is just amazing.
I’m the same! But she’s just overtly such a simp and Kennedy plays it and the heart eyes so well. I’m here for it and it’s such a nice contrast to her previous ships.
And I love how awkward Ace is. Like when he could hardly make eye contact during the painting scene etc even though he knows she has feelings for him too. HE LIKES HER SO BAD.

Nancy Drew, season 4, episode 8 review (spoilers!):
So, this episode was very heavy on Nace, but I can't say I loved it? I loved that the episode was about them, and I loved them working together, actually talking, realizing they're better together even as friends, and that they can still bring out the best in each other, but the last minutes of the episode lowkey bothered me. Nancy had a huge growing moment when she opened up to Nick, George and Bess at The Claw but it was after Ace left. She called them family, they had a group hug, and then she celebrated her mom with all her family but Ace. That part bothered me! I know everything's always so tense with them now, but isn't Ace Nancy's family too? Isn't that the whole point of the episode - that they are still friends and always will be? Ace would've wanted to be there for Nancy and he was excluded. It's like now that he's the ex he can't be family - he's below the others when it really matters? It's all about epic love and angst now, but stuff like connection, trust, companionship - all of that can't apply to them anymore? It's always the same thing in media. There's this idea in mainstream "feminism" that friends > lovers. But, like, why? Aren't boyfriends supposed to be closer to you than friends? Is Nancy and Ace's love any less special and meaningful because it's romantic now? Is their love worth less now that it's fully romantic? Ace's part of their group and he was literally the only person not at Nancy's house.
Also, I kept waiting for either Nancy or Ace to accidentally use the back door or whatever. I feel like that's how they are going to fix their death curse? They'll forget each other? Or at least one of them will, but they'll get together anyway and cheat death? Ace went finishing for a reason. That whole scene was about more than father-son bonding. Oh, and also, Ace's dad is less of an ass this season, but I can't forget how he kicked out his son out for accidentally revealing his dirty secret. I can't forget how Ace's mom did nothing and left her son alone after being kicked out of his home. She sided with the man who lied to her. Women always fucking do this. They always side with their husbands, it's pathetic. And even when she saw him for the first time in another episode, she barely asked how she was... Honestly...
I wasn't expecting the body swap and felt a bit of foreboding when it happened, but the writers successfully avoided clichés! But it's odd that it wasn't a bigger deal actually. The actor who plays Nick, Tunji Kasim, did one hell of a fucking job playing Bess. He 100% nailed it, from top to bottom! Kennedy McMann, who plays Nancy, did a great job with Ace's stoner, deadpan look. I think Alex Saxon did a good job playing Nancy too. They all did well, including Maddison Jaizani, but I think the actress who plays George, Leah Lewis, is the weakest one in the cast. She didn't stand out.
Sadly, I'm 99% sure Ryan is going to die this season. I don't know if that's his redemption arc, or if they want to make Nancy sad, but I'm pretty sure he's gone die unnecessarily, if anything for shock value since this is the last season and, aside from the gang, he's probably the most beloved character...
Hmm, I don't know... what do you guys think? I'm not in the fandom so I don't know what the fan theories are. I'll see if I can find some!

Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson on Led Zeppelin
Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson of Heart perform ‘Stairway to Heaven’ at the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors. | Jeffrey R. Staab/CBS via Getty Images
The Wilson sisters love them some Led Zeppelin.
Ann Wilson's favorite Led Zeppelin song If you ask Ann Wilson what her favorite Led Zeppelin song is, she’ll answer right away: "The Rain Song."
Nancy Wilson: 8 songs that changed my life
Led Zeppelin - The Rain Song (Houses Of The Holy, 1973)
"This is one of the most melodically sophisticated songs in the history of rock‘n’roll and also one of the most beautiful pieces of written poetry ever. It’s such an insightful meditation on life through the seasons, and it balances poetry and rock ‘n’ roll perfectly in a way that no-one but Led Zeppelin has ever been able to do."
"Along with the other artists I’ll mention here, Zeppelin were one of the bands that saved my life in high school. There’s a real magical mystery to this song. Every good guitar player that I’ve ever been at a party with knows how to play this song, but every one of them plays it differently, everyone had their own interpretation. Only Jimmy [Page] truly knows I guess."
"If I could write a song like The Rain Song, I'd probably sprout wings and fly away!" -Nancy Wilson
Ann Wilson on Led Zeppelin IV
Onstage, Heart’s Ann and Nancy Wilson were joined by Jason Bonham to perform an emotional, devastating version of Led Zeppelin’s Stairway To Heaven. So perhaps it’s not much of a surprise when you ask Ann about the album that changed everything for her.
"I think it’d be Zeppelin IV. I would listen to the Beatles and listen to the Stones and Elton John and the other groups that I was listening to in my teens, but that album really hit me where I lived.
"I knew from the first that I have to reproduce that. This is a teaching album, I said to myself.
"I know it had a lot to do with Plant’s lyrics. I mean that’s my favourite part of the gig is getting to sing those words, our words, Zeppelin’s words, whoever, is just getting to recreate the poetry in song.
"And that’s the album when he really started to write in a more masterly way."
“Timeless”: the Led Zeppelin song that inspired Ann Wilson to become a musician
A single tear rolls down Robert Plant’s face as Wilson and Heart take to the stage to play ‘Stairway to Heaven’. Wilson’s voice pierces the room as she nails the outro that cemented Robert Plant as one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time. Many singers can only dream of hitting those notes, but Wilson did it with such ease that it moved the original singer to tears.
It’s a song that meant a great deal to Ann Wilson as it resonates as a classic rock song, and it’s one of the tracks that initially got her into music. "One of the main ones, in the beginning, was ‘Stairway To Heaven’ – because of the lyrics and the epic nature of it,” she said, “It starts out acoustic and gets as big as it can be, and it takes you on a real journey. I love that song."
With this song in particular, while the words resonated because of their ambiguity, they profoundly affected Wilson. It wasn’t just about the literal interpretation of the track but was about how it made her feel. "I think it’s timeless and ageless and beautiful. "Do you get the lyrics?" "Yeah, but I don’t think you get it with your cognition; I think it’s a felt thing.”
The 10 albums that changed Heart founder Nancy Wilson’s life
Led Zeppelin – Houses of the Holy (1973)
The follow-up to the band’s saving grace, Led Zeppelin IV, it’s not outrageous to posit that Houses of the Holy can be digested as something of a sister record to its forebear. It sees the band expand on their sonic palette, both in terms of instrumentation and dynamics, and across Houses of the Holy we get stellar moments ranging from ‘The Crunge’ to ‘Rain Song’. Holding a nostalgic place in Wilson’s heart, she’s acutely aware of Zeppelin’s power.
"The summer I graduated from high school was the summer of Houses of the Holy. This album conjures up the exotic, misty magic of Old English lore blended with the riffs and beats of deep south American blues", Wilson recalled. "Led Zeppelin is a big weather system moving over hill and dale. They shift and turn together like a school of fish through some deep, magical current.”
Ann Wilson: 'Singing Led Zeppelin taught me how to sing rock 'n' roll - loud and high'
It took her a while to believe that she could sing rock ‘n’ roll. “I was maybe 23 or 24, and I was in Heart, but I was just like the chick singer in the band. But then I realised that by singing Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, covering those bands, it taught me how to sing rock ‘n’ roll – loud and high.”
Heart’s Nancy Wilson on their long road to the top, grunge friends – and that cover of Stairway to Heaven
Her favorite Heart guitar moment, however, is from a deep cut, Mistral Wind, the closing track on the 1978 album Dog & Butterfly.
"I really like the way Jimmy Page used dissonance, and his acoustic guitar playing, too," she begins.
"There’s that sort of element to the heaviness of Zeppelin. That made them one of the coolest bands on planet, because they were so versatile. So when I was working on the intro part of Mistral Wind, I was definitely channelling a Jimmy Page mentality, trying to evoke something darkly mysterious."
One of Heart’s most viewed videos is their 2012 Kennedy Center Honors performance of Stairway To Heaven for the surviving members of Led Zeppelin, including a visibly tearful Robert Plant. When Nancy remembers a moment from that night, she retains a sense of amazement.
"Jimmy Page came up later and said, ‘Wow, I love the way you play that song’. "I was like, ‘God, I could die now’". "I was just in shock to hear that coming out of him." "Then Plant said, ‘I’ve really come to hate that song. But wow, you guys did a great job.’" "Jimmy Page telling me he thought I played great was so incredibly life-altering! It made me want to get better. Keep working it!”
Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson: Our Life in 15 Songs
“Stairway to Heaven” (2012)
Ann: "When we were asked to come and participate in the Led Zeppelin tribute [Ed. note: Heart performed for the surviving members of Led Zeppelin, as well as President and Michelle Obama, at the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington D.C.], I thought, 'Yeah, that's good. We should be there!' 'But I didn't think they'd ask us to do "Stairway." Maybe "Rock and Roll," something like that. A song that's cool, but not the ultimate anthem."
Nancy: "It was an interesting couple of days. It was beyond. It's like, Led Zeppelin … and the president! And it was Christmastime in D.C., so it was really cold. My hands were sort of frozen during the rehearsal. I could hardly play. And I hadn't really played the song too much in advance. So the rehearsal went very poorly. And the musical director was like, 'Oh, don't worry. I can just kind of shadow you during the performance. …' And I said, 'No, no, no. I'll just get my fingers warmed up first. I've got this!' And when we did it, we were just really, really nervous. But we looked at each other and took a huge, deep breath. Exhaled. Didn't hurry it and just stayed on it all the way through."
Ann: "Nancy and I went up there to do it and we were like, 'We cannot fuck this up. This has to be right on.' And to calm ourselves we said, 'Well, what's the most obvious meditation technique we can grab onto right now?' And it was the thing about holding the bowl of water in front of you and not spilling a drop. And that's what we thought about when we went out there. Then after we came offstage, we spilled the bowl all over the place!" [Laughs]
Nancy: "It turned out really cool. Afterward there was a dinner, and the Zeppelin guys came up to us individually to say how much they liked the performance. Robert [Plant] told us, 'I've grown to hate that song so much because people just murder it all the time.' And it's like, 'What?' But then he said, 'But you guys did a great job with it.'"
"And people like to tell us, 'You made Led Zeppelin cry!' But I think it was more about their family. The fact that Jason Bonham was drumming on the song with us, and wearing the bowler hat like his dad used to wear, was one of the things that really affected them emotionally. For them to see him up there was, I'm sure, the bigger reason for them to get emotional – more than just watching us!"
Heart's Ann Wilson Recalls How It Felt to Perform 'Stairway to Heaven' in Front of Led Zeppelin Members "'Let's just go out right now and keep our eyes on the ball and do the song the way we know we can and make it good.'" "The mission was to please the Led Zeppelin guys, really. And I think we did."

In my Nace feels again…
Like. I cannot express how much I love Nancy Drew (2019).
Grew up playing the pc games and reading the books, so Nancy Drew is an icon of girlhood to me, she’s my childhood, and I know her.
And Kennedy McMan, she just… she IS Nancy Drew to me, and that’s the highest compliment I could give her.
And that show was so good, honestly ahead of its time to be appreciated enough. The first season alone was perfect. I never anticipated a supernatural version of ND, because she was always the eternal skeptic to me, but somehow it worked because ofc Nancy Drew would, when presented with evidence, switch gears and adapt to her new reality, albeit still with a healthy dose of skepticism.
Ughhh I just miss this show so much

Keri Wallace - Founder & Mountain Leader at Girls on Hills. Skyrunner, fellrunner and ultrarunner encouraging more women to hit the trails and venture into the mountains. Shouting about equity and inclusivity in trail running.
Keri Wallace is the founder & guide at Girls on Hills, the UK’s only trail, fell and skyrunning company for women. After her second child, Keri decided to quit the desk-job and find a way to combine her passion for mountain running with flexible working, so that she could fulfil a life goal and be mum to two toddlers at the same time.
Keri in her own words:
“I started Girls on Hills with my colleague Nancy Kennedy in 2013, as a way to encourage more women to try trail and fell running. It was a terrifying leap of faith and a dream-come-true rolled into one. It felt like the opposite of a mid-life crisis though; like I’d finally found the confidence to stand up and do something I should have done a long time ago. But I had no idea whether it would take off!
We only ran a handful of courses the first year but it soon became clear that there was a real appetite out there for the kind of freedom and empowerment that comes with this type of running – across all ability levels.
I love guiding women around the rocky hills of Glencoe, helping them build the confidence and skills they need to become more independent in the mountains (usually a simple case of revealing how much they are already capable of!) Mountain running is such a multi-faceted sport, with benefits that reach out and touch all other areas of your life.
As Girls on Hills has grown over the years, we have learned more about the barriers that many women face, across all levels of our sport, from beginner access, right through to elite-level racing. Today we advocate strongly for equity and inclusivity and seek to increase female participation in technical and ultra-distance events, where the gender gap is greatest.”

Hello, Drewds! I’ve been on vacation but just had to come back to post about what we know about the next few episodes.
Before I go there, a word on Episode 8. For me it was one of the best of the entire series. The actors were able to capture each others’ speech, mannerisms, and essence so well. And of course the Nancy and Ace scenes were just incredible. They aren’t together romantically yet, but they have reached a new level of honesty with each other, and are learning how to be a couple. The sunset scene, and Ace’s voice cracking as he says later that he’s a better person with Nancy in his life, were everything.
On to episode 9! We got the one line description “The Drew Crew prepare to battle a Sin Eater.” I think we can do better than that. To start with, the title. “The Mystery of the Stolen Soul.”
Who could be the stolen soul? My theory - it’s Tristan Glass. We know he’s adopted, and the Glasses are fully capable of stealing a child. Is he the child of India Burnett, the most recent victim of the Sin Eater (who died on a boat under mysterious circumstances)? Or does he have some other connection?
Henry Zaga was filming in Vancouver and posted this at the time of ep. 9 filming:
I remember at the time wondering how he got so muddy. This certainly makes me think of this scene from the trailer:
We all surmised that this is Tristan who Nancy says she won’t let die (yes I studied Alex and Henry’s profiles for comparison cause I’m obsessed).
Some fans have theorized that Tristan IS a Sin Eater. Did Nancy shoot him accidentally when she’s aiming for a Sin Eater? Or does he transform? Or is he actually the next victim - and if so, whose sin is he paying for? Nancy’s (for the tsunami/killing Tempy/shooting Tristan)? The Glasses (for kidnapping Tristan/many attempted murders)? We will get the return of Jonas Glass in this episode, interested in how he plays into it. Kennedy said we won’t fully understand Tristan’s role until the finale, but I imagine a big piece of the puzzle will be revealed in this episode. Still wondering about his grandfather that he went fishing with, esp after Ep. 8’s Ace&Thom fishing adventure…
We have this intriguing promo still from Ep. 9 which matches with a shot from the trailer:
So is this Temperance’s red sleeping powder she used on Lev? Perhaps Nancy finds it in Icarus Hall. Does she try to use it on the Sin Eater? Tristan? Ace? (Also, where’s Ace?)
There’s this mysterious shot that matches Nancy’s fit from the cabin shot below:
She’s waking up here - did she douse herself with the sleeping powder accidentally? Maybe she’s testing it out before she tries it on the Sin Eater.
We also had this trailer shot in a stone cabin that matches Maddison’s coat from ep.9 filming:
You may remember she attempted to sing Elton John in the green room in this gorgeous purple plaid coat. What icky thing are they encountering? And what is going on here?
Back in town, we’ve got Bess on trial for witchcraft, which is eerily evocative of both the history of early America and today’s terrifying climate:
You may remember the cast did a meet and greet with fans during filming at the old courthouses that are inside the Vancouver Art Gallery:
Since Nancy has a few different outfits in this episode, I’m thinking the trial runs for at least few days.
So I know we’re all anxious about what is happening with Ace, who isn’t in any of these shots. We know from past episodes they often leave him out of promos, surely to increase our anticipation. I can’t imagine him not being there for his Platanchor - although he does have a job that he can’t slack off now. From IMDB, Connor is in this ep, so we should get some work scenes for Ace, and perhaps the suggestion that he go to school to further his career?
I believe we’ll see his potential love interest in the next episode (will do another post), but we should expect some Nancy-Tristan action in this ep. Gotta ride the wave!
As always my post is all speculation based on what we know from BTS, trailers, and promos. I might have the wrong episode for some of these shots, and there may be some I missed. But it’s fun to speculate while we wait for Larry’s emojis and tonight’s broadcast!

So once again I’ve taken my time to collect my thoughts because wow, I am all in the feels right now (warning, long post). First things first, I am so oddly HAPPY that they didn’t give us a Nancy and Ace kiss, because beforehand yes I was wanting it and by all means I still do, but it made so much more sense with how everything played out. Plus, the proximity Nace had in the dreamscape was immaculate, and when dreamscape Ace said “knock ‘em dead”, oh lord that knocked me dead for a good minute. Plus, we’re in it for the slow burn, and part of that is letting it unfold naturally and gradually, not forced by circumstance or manufactured; make no mistake, the writers are invested in giving us everything we could want and more, but they know how to do it without falling in too deep into the rabbit hole, they have to take clarity in real time, we can only do that after the fact. I personally find that for once the writers know me better than I do, I’ve thrown out theories (some I’ve shared on here and some not) that I’ve had into the void with varying levels of accuracy, from none, to partial, to spot on (this last one being more rare personally). And honestly, I’m actually quite comforted at the moment with my trust in what the writers will do just in general, but obviously especially with Nace. For now I’m living on Kennedy’s words “just let it ride baby”. Plus, season 3 is the place to be for it to flow naturally like a river, give us that progression and have it happen.
Another Nancy x Ace feature I loved was Ace’s tendency to be more touchy (literally) and drawn to Nancy in the finale, because although make no mistake Ace has had numerous moments through the season in terms of his journey towards Nancy, Nancy has definitely been a bit more loud on that side of things although it does make total sense for the both of them. Nancy’s near death experience was definitely a catalyst in the journey for Ace to acknowledge those feelings, I mean the eye contact when Nancy woke up was astoundingly loud. Also, going back a bit for a second, aside from the fact I am so glad that Nancy dumped the dumpster fire that is Gil, I am also so giddy at what Ace said to Nancy because it was so sweet but I also adore his clear affirmation to Nancy that she can do it and that her breaking up with Gil was all her, she has the strength and as can be seen she proved that. Also quick note, aside from the back rubs and hand holding, his concern when the blood was draining, MY HEART. On top of that his “I feel like I left something behind” is giving me everything, and btw I can give you an eye witness description Ace, plus any additional info if you’d like. Coupled with Nancy’s speech she was rehearsing at his door, the girl has it bad for our boy, he just needs to gain clarity in return.
Other things I want to mention, I know we kind of talk about who Nancy’s gonna be with next but I’m gonna throw it out there and say no one, at least not until Ace comes along, at which point they play the game of awkward interactions and figure things out. The Nancy we’ve known up to this point has jumped from guy to guy, but we understand at this point that that’s down to her avoiding her trauma, which she’s now not only in charge of but has to face head on, which means not diving into just any guy’s arms, she understands at this point that it’s not healthy and it’s not helpful. As a result, I think she’s gonna fuel her time with other things; this will obviously include investigating, but maybe even hanging out at Ace’s house whilst he’s on the “romantic” trip (also I really don’t like Amanda defending Gil, I can understand defending family to a certain degree, but girl “he got dumped for no reason” is complete bs, did you even ask or just assume? Ace is right about all he said, and as someone with a brother myself I’ll say it doesn’t take having a sibling to know that, you didn’t even acknowledge Gil’s toxic behaviour properly when Ace called you back). I feel like even though Ace encouraged the trip that he’s already not feeling it, because his feelings are elsewhere *hint hint* right now, it’s more of an excuse to run from what (or who) he’s feeling different about, but when he returns we’re gonna get a lot of juicy content (I don’t think they’ll waste much time doing this for season 3).
The episode really went there, addressing a lot but not making it feel rushed. Which whilst we’re on the subject, aside from Nancy’s whole ordeal, it’ll be interesting to see if maybe there’s a solution for finding a way to separate George and Odette (I’ve had this theory in my head that Temperance might be the devil they have to make a deal with), though if they do I want it to be a case of Odette being freed and her moving on, because Bess deserves to find someone (as they hinted in the interview for the finale) and not just be dragged back because whilst it was cute for a bit, the whole Odette thing was definitely messy regardless of her noble choice to not resurface again, but also give George her life back where she isn’t having to rush milestones and Bess can get the screen time (which btw I think they deliberately scaled her back this season to serve the other plots better so that they could do more for her in season 3, to give the writers credit where it’s due). Another thing, from the interview as far as the Bobbsey’s are concerned, as far as I know they’ll be taking a backseat, which has me intrigued as to how they’ll be used if they do turn up. On top of that, I loved the reference to Nancy and Ace’s feelings as “nothing casual” which leads me to the last bit of this long post (I will likely make more posts but I’m trying to control myself).
For the longest time I’ve shipped Nancy and Ace, like day 1 type stuff. And part of me just thought it was my brain working overtime and wanting it to be that way, especially when season 2 rolled around and we got all this CONTENT. It could’ve been the writers just latching onto us. But as it turns out I and the rest of us Nace shippers have been right in what our eyes saw this the entire time. They looked at Ace (Alex Saxon) as a love interest for Nancy (Kennedy Mcmann) the moment they had him cast. It’s such great validation because in season 1 amongst other scenes, especially when they went to the library and there was that look between them when they read the emails, I was like...am I? are you seeing this? the seeds were being planted. Anyways, that’s all that’s on my brain right now (surprise surprise), nevertheless I can’t wait for what’s next overall, but obviously I and the rest of us will have to. Luckily though it’s not a whole year we have to wait so we are truly blessed. Looking forward to what’s in store.

I seriously doubt Nancy backs off of Park anytime soon. The next episode is rated TV14DSV. Nancy probably sleeps with him. With only four episodes left, I’m not sure how I’m supposed to buy anything happening with Nace in the finale without some huge hand waving. There’s just not enough time for any of this to play out realistically.
Plus, the fact that she could do that while Ace is missing or even at all when she was “pining” for him a week ago (show time) is frankly unbelievable. I know she loves sex but the person she allegedly loves is nowhere to be found and that’s her default move?! The writers obviously want us to ship Nancy with a man who is way too old for her and that she barely knows over the pairing that’s had nearly 50 episodes of build-up. You’d think with the fanbase being 99.9% Nace that would mean something, but it truly doesn’t. Also, not sure why Kennedy loves 310 so much when it seems like a show/ship breaker and not in a good way.
I had such high hopes after 218, but this has honestly been one of the worst seasons of television I’ve ever experienced. The writing has deteriorated with every episode because of an obsession with a new character, the lack of Drew Crew interaction, the lack of meaningful Nace scenes, the looming character assassination of Nancy, and an extremely confusing mystery. Not to mention the weird social media “promotion” including Park being praised 24/7 and Scott Wolf seriously implying Nace is unhealthy which still blows my mind.
I can’t even recommend this show anymore without a disclaimer. It’s been a huge disappointment and that makes me incredibly sad. We’re all getting played for fools just like with every other CW show that’s ever aired.
I mean, you’re entitled to your opinion, but I don’t agree. I don’t think it’s a perfect season of television by any means, but I personally am having a great time even though I dislike the Park storyline. They’ve given us what I take to be meaningful Nace scenes in pretty much every episode this season, and several episodes where Park is not present at all. I think a longer season would have maybe been better for the Nace development, but the story isn’t done yet. These writers have taken things that make no sense before (like Nancy and Gil) and made them make sense, so I’m just here along for the ride. But the nace set up right now is the angst and pining of my dreams, to be honest, so if you don’t like it at all I just can’t relate!
I didn’t see the Scott Wolf comment or whatever, and I found the nark promotion annoying, but they also promote Nace ALL THE TIME. This cast and crew is very nice about Nace. It just makes me think that some of you haven’t been a part of a fandom that’s ACTUALLY a shit show (like Bellarke, for example). I don’t know. I think you just have to take little comments that rub you the wrong way with a grain of salt, because at the end of the day their experience isn’t the same as ours. They are promoting their job and we’re experiencing it as fans. And either way, the actors aren’t writing the show and have no say in what happens, especially about a storyline they aren’t even involved in.
If it’s making you that upset, I always recommend taking a step back and maybe not watching. For example, I’ve had to take a step back from the Rookie because I don’t like where it’s going, but yeah…. I’m currently having a great time with ND and Nace.
I might be disapppinted at the end of the season. I don’t know. But I’m not right now.
#I’m sorry I don’t like to pull the ‘y’all haven’t SEEN a bad fandom until you see this one’#but it’s the truth#nace#ask

No Me Digas Adios
Written for @badthingshappenbingo
Fandom: 9-1-1: Lone Star
Characters: T.K. Strand, Carlos Reyes, 126 firefam, Reyes family, basically everyone makes at least a short appearance on this one.
Prompt: Distress Call.
Summary: All his life T.K. has been close to fear and the possibility of loss, but nothing could have prepared him for the moment he receives a distress call from a gravely injured Carlos. When it all becomes too much for T.K. and Carlos to handle on their own, the 126 and Reyes family are there to help.
Links: ff.net - AO3
"T.K, are you okay? What happened?" Nancy asked, sitting on the other side of the ambulance as they did inventory.
But T.K. wasn't listening, or he was, but the words weren't filtering. All he could focus on was his heart almost beating out of his chest and the ringing in his ears. The words that had just been spoken to him over the phone echoed over and over again on his mind and his world threatened to crumble down at any second.
Because Tyler Kennedy Strand thought he knew fear, he would even go as far to say that he was an expert at it. But never before had he felt such paralyzing terror.
Not standing rooted in place in front of the tv, at the mere age of 7, as he watched two skyscrapers collapse, all the while knowing his father, his hero, was one of those miniature figures fighting the chaos from below.
Not waking up in the hospital after overdosing the first time. Or overdosing a second time in his kitchen and fearing that his father would be forced to find his dead body.
Not the many times he had almost died on the job: almost consumed by flames, or crushed by a collapsing structure, and even shot once, and almost twice.
Tyler Kennedy Strand also thought he knew loss, but nothing could have prepared him for the all-consuming emptiness that he was suddenly feeling.
Not losing friends, teammates, and colleagues. And all his uncles and aunts from his dad's station when the towers had come down.
Not almost losing his father first in the attack, and later by the cancer brought upon by many years on the job.
Not even the many times he had almost lost himself. Almost destroyed from the inside out by the drugs he had voluntarily put into his system, or by the many calls almost gone fatally wrong.
T.K's life had been a series of almost disasters and they had all made him accustomed to fear and loss. But nothing he had faced before could prepare him for this moment.
"T.K?" Nancy called next to him, now drawing closer and shaking his shoulder. But the paramedic didn't even blink. "Tommy!" She shouted next, "something is wrong."
Tommy came running, stopping and hovering close as soon as she noticed T.K's blank stare and shaking hands. "What happened?" Her eyes were solely on T.K, but her question was directed at his partner because the man didn't seem in any position to answer for himself.
"I'm not sure. We were just doing inventory when he received a phone call, and that happened," Nancy explained, gesturing to T.K.
"Hey, T.K. can you tell us what's going on?" Tommy asked softly, "who called you?" Owen was at the station, and Gwyn wouldn't call her son before trying her ex-husband first, so that only left one person, but Tommy needed to be sure before raising alarms.
T.K. said nothing, just switched the call to speaker mode and continued to stare into space.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean for this to happen." Carlos' pained voice came from the other end. "It was just a routine call, I don't know what went wrong." A cough, followed by a grunt.
"Carlos, it's Tommy. Where are you? What happened?" Tommy all but screamed, taking the phone from T.K, "I'm with T.K. and Nancy, how can we help?"
Another barely suppressed grunt, and a new fit of coughing. "Is T.K. there?" Carlos asked softly, "he hasn't said anything. I just needed to apologize, and to tell him I love him."
"Carlos, he's here. Just a little shaken," Nancy tried to explain, shooting a concerned look to her partner, "you can tell him everything you want when you see him. But now, where are you? Should we call your station? 9-1-1?"
"No cops," Carlos said quickly, making everyone frown, "and no time. T.K, I need to talk to T.K. Please."
That last comment seemed to have set something loose inside T.K. because tears instantly clouded his eyes as he launched forward to take the phone back from Tommy. "Carlos," he breathed out, "I'm here babe, give us a location. We will come pick you up. Patch you up and everything will be good."
"Don't ... know ... where," Carlos mumbled, a gurgling noise cutting in between his words. "And I can't find Mitchell. T.K, I'm so sorry. Just a routine call, but we were grabbed and left for dead. And Mitchell, I don't know where she is."
"Carlos, no one is dying," T.K. said, his voice pleading, both to the man on the other side of the line, and to any higher power willing to listen. "Just tell us where, please. What can you see around you? We will search, and find you, I promise," T.K. begged, tears now flowing freely down his face because Carlos was beginning to repeat himself, clearly disoriented, and T.K. knew that was a sign of too much blood loss and pointed to eventual shock.
"Blindfold when we were moved," Carlos explained weakly, "now I only see dirt and grass, maybe water nearby."
The emptiness T.K. was feeling growing into a void that threatened to swallow him whole as he silently wondered if his boyfriend had been left for dead in a ditch somewhere in Austin.
"But T.K, please promise me you'll be okay. Promise me you will let your friends help you. Don't shut down, don't…" Carlos continued, his voice growing quieter by the second.
Use again. Carlos didn't say it, but T.K. just knew.
"... I just wanted to say goodbye. I love you, baby. Always have, always will." Carlos sobbed, his voice now barely above a whisper. "Please tell… tell Gabriel and mami that I love them, and that I'm just so sorry."
"Carlos, no. Please, give us something more and we will look for you. Where was the call?" T.K. continued to plead, because Austin was too big a city to begin a search without any kind of clue or hint, and there was dirt, grass and water in more than a few places. And T.K. trusted Carlos enough to accept that he couldn't call the cops. He didn't know why, but Carlos was a boy in blue through and through, and for him to say that, something major must have happened.
"I'm sorry, babe. But you'll be okay, just remember I love you," Carlos said softly. "Goodbye, T.K." And just like that, the line went dead.
"Carlos? No, no, Carlos?" T.K. shouted over and over again, but the call had cut short. And no matter how many times he tried to call again Carlos wasn't picking up.
Getting out of the ambulance, T.K. stumbled and practically collapsed. Back sliding down the wall of the apparatus bay as all his contrasting emotions began to overpower him. Carlos' words continuing to echo on his head, making T.K's sobs become more frantic, his breathing coming in small gasps.
"Breathe, T.K, breathe," Marjan was saying as she kneeled next to him. But when had she gotten there? TK shook his head to help clear it and noticed that Nancy was no longer doing inventory and Tommy wasn't standing on the doors to the ambo. They were both standing next to Judd who was now on the phone, Owen was also talking to someone on his cellphone, and Paul and Mateo were walking towards him with a cup of steaming tea and tissues in hand, both which they wordlessly passed to T.K. before clapping his back and squeezing his shoulder in a comforting gesture.
"Got it! Thank you, Gracie. You really are our guardian angel. I will let you know as soon as we find something," Judd shouted a few minutes later, as he threw his phone back into his pocket and ran towards T.K. "Carlos and his partner were responding to a 9-1-1 call, Grace gave me the details and the original address. Might not be much, but it's a place to start."
Wasting no time, T.K. ran to the passenger side of the ambulance, knowing that his boss and partner would follow.
"Tommy, I sent the address to the firehouse group chat," Judd hollered, already climbing into the truck.
"We will meet you all there," Owen said, running to follow Judd, with Marjan, Paul and Mateo close behind.
"Wait, you all don't have to come," T.K. croaked.
"Of course we have, son," Owen said softly, "we can't risk anything else happening to the three of you. Plus, Carlos is family. And, speaking of family, I already called Mr. Reyes, Gabriel and the Rangers will meet us there, too."
"Thank you." T.K. could only whisper the words because while he had let Carlos' distress call throw his mind and heart into complete chaos, Tommy and Nancy had rallied the troops and now they had a place to start searching for Carlos. And for now, that just had to be enough.
-x-x-x-
"Carlitos, what are you doing laying there? You have to get up."
"Mami?" Carlos asked, opening his eyes and squinting as intense brightness blurred his vision. "Where are we?"
"What's that? We're at Pleasant Valley, of course. Don't you remember, mijo? We used to come here when you were a kid so you could play on the sand next to the river," Andrea explained as if it was obvious. And Carlos could only chuckle humorlessly because there was nothing pleasant about his situation, just a lot of pain, the feeling of too much blood soaking his clothes and a cold sensation that began deep in his bones and extended all over his body, so the word just made him angry.
"Okay," Carlos said simply, not really able to recall the memories his mother spoke of. His mind was a fog of confusion and he couldn't hold onto any thought for more than a few seconds. But he did try to lift this head, barely, and allowed a small smile to grace his lips as he saw the river and the beautiful sunset casting the water a bright yellow. Taking in the view before his strength gave in and his face fell back into the dirt, Carlos absentmindedly acknowledged that from all possible places this was a nice one to go. Just too bad the area was not totally safe at dark so no bystander would stumble upon his body until it was too late.
"You have to stay awake, mi vida," Andrea said sharply but softly, kneeling next to her son and cupping his cheek. Her other hand caressing his brown curls.
Carlos opened his eyes at that, not even realizing they had slid shut. "But I'm so cold, ma, and tired. I just need to rest a little, solo un poco," Carlos mumbled pleadingly, unconsciously leaning close to the warm, comforting touch of his mother.
"I know, but you need to be ready when they come. You need to be able to answer their calls," Andrea directed softly.
"I'm scared, mami," Carlos whispered, "I don't want to die. Not now, not yet, after I finally found what I'd been looking for." Tears pricked the corner of his eyes as he remembered T.K. and how he had given him a family, not only with his love, but also how T.K's team had accepted him as one of their own. But Carlos knew this cold he was feeling wasn't natural and he was too weak to save himself now.
"You're not really here, are you?" Carlos asked sadly, when his mother remained quiet, a lone tear sliding down his face at the realization.
"I'm always with you, Carlitos. Right here." Andrea moved her hand and placed it on top of Carlos' heart. "Even when you can't see me, solo recuerda que yo siempre estoy contigo."
Carlos' eyes clouded with more tears and he blinked them a few times, his heart breaking as soon as his vision cleared and he realized that his mother was gone. And he was alone again. Had always been alone.
-x-x-x-
"Carlos!" T.K. shouted for what felt like the hundredth time. "Carlos? Please answer us."
T.K, the rest of the firehouse, and Gabriel and the Rangers had met up an hour ago. They had exchanged some quick words, Gabriel sharing what he had been able to find out about the call Carlos had been responding to, and how his boss suspected that Carlos and Mitchell had been led into an ambush by some cops they had been helping IA investigate. While T.K. had recalled in painful detail everything his mind remembered or had just picked up during Carlos' call. Then they had all gone their separate ways to search in their assigned quadrants.
20 minutes into the search, Marjan, Paul and Mateo had found Mitchell, shot and unconscious on the side of the Colorado River Park Wildlife Sanctuary. Her pulse had been weak but she was alive, so another ambulance had transported her to the hospital and now she was in surgery. Tommy and Nancy wanting to stay behind so they could be the ones to treat Carlos once they found him.
But another half hour of desperate shouting had yielded nothing, and no one had any idea if they were even close to locating Carlos or if they had dumped his body farther away.
"We will find him. Your boy's strong. He will hold on for us. For you," Judd said softly, coming to stand near T.K. and offering him a bottle of water. The relenting sun had not yet lowered all the way down and the summer heat was taking its toll in all of them.
"But you didn't hear him, Judd. He sounded so hurt, and so weak," T.K. mumbled, "how can you be sure?" He finished, daring but terrified, to sound hopeful.
"Because he has you. When our car went into the water, Grace was trapped and I couldn't get her out. But she held on because she knew I was waiting for her on the other side. And Carlos knows that too. So he will fight, he will fight with everything that he has to get back to you."
"But sometimes that's not enough," T.K. said more to himself than to the man standing beside him.
"Don't you think I know that, brother?" Judd challenged, fighting memories of his old team and the wives, husbands and children they had been forced to leave behind. "But sometimes it has to be enough. And we just ought to believe it. Believe that there's someone up there willing to bend the hands of time for us. Give Carlos a little longer so we can find him on time. So, let's go. Time to keep searching."
T.K. just nodded at that, following Judd as they continued to search in their assigned section. But even as he shouted Carlos' name over and over again, he felt himself losing hope. And at that moment, T.K. could only wish that he shared some of Judd's faith. Because when rationality tells you that your boyfriend had probably already bled out, the belief in some higher power granting you a miracle is one of the few things that can help keep you going.
And with that thought, T.K. began to silently pray. Barely remembering the words he had been taught as a young child, but saying them as best as he could, as he begged to any God willing to listen to please save Carlos. Not for himself, because T.K. doubted he deserved pity from any deities, and all his miracles had already been used the times he hadn't died after overdosing, but for Carlos himself, because the man was too young, too good, and too pure, and just didn't deserve to die so soon.
-x-x-x-
"Carlos, abre los ojos," Gabriel Reyes ordered.
"Yes, Sir," Carlos said, trying to sound stronger than he felt. And following his father's commanding voice, he had no choice but to follow the order. Looking up at his father from eyes at half-mast, Carlos rapidly blinked a few times as he tried to clear the blood that had slid into his eyes from what he assumed was a wound somewhere on his head. Stifling a groan, Carlos then tried to find a more comfortable position. Which he should have realized was an impossible task when you were lying face down in some kind of ditch. "Sorry," he muttered. Missing the comforting presence of his mother, and not wanting his father's disapproving voice to be the last thing he heard, even when he knew it was only happening in his mind.
"I didn't raise you to give up so easily. No son of mine is a quitter, Carlos Reyes. And you didn't follow in my footsteps just to die on the shore. So open your eyes and fight like a Reyes," Gabriel continued to push.
Tanto nadar para morir en la orilla. His dad's words made Carlos remember the family saying his mother used to tell him all the time when he was a child wanting to quit something and she wanted him to try very hard and not give up just before he made it. Ignoring the agonizing pain he was feeling, Carlos allowed himself a brief smile, recalling his mama's voice saying the words when he had wanted to quit futbol after a bad season, or when he fell off a horse when he was learning to ride at his abuelo's ranch and angrily said that he would never ride again. And even as an adult when he had sometimes questioned his desire to become a cop.
Drawing strength from all those times he had succeeded after hearing his mother say those words, Carlos set his hands under his body and pushed himself slightly up, managing to turn himself around, before collapsing onto his back. Staring at the sky, Carlos gasped for breath, but felt better just by the fact he was no longer face down practically eating dirt.
"That's my boy," Gabriel boasted, making Carlos's face scrunch in confusion partially because he thought his dad sounded proud, or maybe that was wishful thinking brought upon by the blood loss, but also just by the fact his father was still there at all. "We're coming, mijo. You just have to hold on and be ready. Then the hospital will patch you up and your mama is going to take you to the ranch and cook her famous hervido for you, you know that soup can even raise the dead. So, please Carlos, just hold on for a little while longer."
"I'll try, dad. But if not, just know that I did fight. With everything I've got," Carlos said desperately, choking on his own sobs when he looked up and realized his father was no longer there. So now he could only hope that his family and boyfriend would really know that he had given it his all. Alone again, Carlos' lips began to move in a silent prayer, as his hand instinctively reached for the Rosary he always carried around his neck, under his uniform shirt, the one his mother had given him the same night he graduated from the academy.
-x-x-x-
"Carlos!"
Carlos opened his eyes and gasped, "please no," he whispered, knowing he wouldn't be able to take another hallucination, especially if this one was T.K.
"Carlos!"
Desperate to get away, Carlos shut his eyes and shocked his eyes, grunting when the movement increased his agony.
"Carlos!"
T.K's voice shouted again, closer this time, and curiosity got the better of him, so Carlos reopened his eyes. He could see what he thought were flashlights in the distance, and now that he focused more on his surroundings, he recognized different voices alongside his boyfriend's, one clearly belonging to his father. All shouting his name.
Remembering his father's promise that they were coming, Carlos swallowed a few times to relieve his dry throat before he put his faith in the hands of God. If this was another hallucination it would probably break him, but if it wasn't it could mean salvation.
"T.K, here, I'm here!" Carlos shouted, using all of his remaining strength, "T.K, dad, please help," he ended up in a whisper, coughing and choking on a mouthful of blood.
Seconds stretched into minutes and Carlos tried to call again but his voice wouldn't come out any higher than a weak whimper. But seeing the flashlights move farther away, Carlos gathered the remaining of his strength and shouted his boyfriend's name one last time.
-x-x-x-
"T.K," the unmistakable voice of his boyfriend called back and T.K. whirled around desperate to find its source.
Looking down at the river, T.K. gasped as soon as he noticed a shoe coming out from some bushes, a hand a little farther away hanging limply into the water. Terrified of what he would find, but placing all of his hopes and dreams on the fact that he had heard Carlos' voice so that meant he was still alive, T.K. ran to the waterfront, sliding on the rocky shore and getting his clothes wet. But not caring at all.
Reaching inside the shrub, T.K. pushed the overgrown branches away and almost had another near panic attack as soon as his eyes landed on Carlos. He was lying on his back, looking paler than T.K. had ever seen him and covered in more blood than should be okay to have outside once body, but T.K. ignored it all and focused instead on his barely open eyes and the slight fall and rise of his chest. But still needing a bigger reassurance, T.K. moved his hands to Carlos' pulse point and felt his eyes cloud with tears as soon as he felt something, because Carlos was really alive, and this near disaster would one day just be another almost finale in their histories.
"I found him. Gabriel, Judd, dad, I found him!" T.K. shouted as hard as he could before turning back to his boyfriend, and kneeling down next to him. "Babe, I'm here. You're going to be okay. Nancy and Tommy are here. My dad, and your dad, too. Everyone is here. You will be okay, you will be okay. I promise," T.K. began rambling, not sure if he was trying to convince himself or Carlos, but he didn't think that mattered.
Carlos said nothing, just continued to stare wide-eyed at T.K.
"Tell me what hurts, what happened?" T.K. asked, already moving his hands to stop the blood of flow from the very obvious gunshot wound on Carlos' side. But there appeared to be another gunshot, or maybe stab wound on his other side, and Carlos was generally bruised all over, and T.K. only had two hands to work with, so he turned around and shouted again. "Help, we need help!"
"Are you really here?" Carlos whispered, lip quivering as he reached with a trembling hand and grabbed T.K's shirt.
"What?" T.K asked confused, before he recognized the fear in Carlos' eyes. "Carlos, baby, I'm here, I promise." He then grabbed Carlos' hand and set it over his heart, hoping the beat would help ground him.
"You found me," Carlos cried, "you really found me." He sounded incredulous and it broke T.K's heart that the usually stoic officer had seemingly given up.
"I'll always find you, Carlos. Always. So don't ever say goodbye to me again," T.K, promised, but any other words were cut short as soon as the rest of the search party finally reached them. Judd grabbing his shoulders and pulling him back as Nancy and Tommy got right to work. They packed the wounds, and set Carlos on oxygen, a heart monitor and IV, while Marjan, Paul and Mateo fumbled with the stretcher on the sandy shore and Owen drove the ambulance, trying to park it as close as possible. Gabriel and the Rangers standing to the side as they let the paramedics and firefighters work, knowing their time would come later when they brought to justice every dirty cop involved in what had happened to Carlos and Mitchell.
And at that moment T.K. realized that for as long as he loved, he would never really know the extent of fear and loss. Because the more you love, the more you fear what you have to lose. But seeing his team, his family, rally around him and his boyfriend, and noticing how Carlos was oblivious to everything going on around him, his eyes instead glued to his, T.K. knew that he wouldn't change this for anything. So, every day, he would gladly deal with the uncertainty and dangers of their jobs, the fear of the unknown and the threat of loss, and just continue hoping that they had many more almosts to live through.
And as Tommy and Nancy finished their work and loaded Carlos into the stretcher, T.K's eyes landed on Carlos's phone discarded to the side, sprinkled with droplets of water but still mostly dry. The sight brought a new wave of panic to T.K. as he thought back to the call, and he had the sudden urge to throw it into the river, but T.K. remembered the many pictures of the two that it contained and which he wasn't sure Carlos had backed up, so he just shook his head and picked it up. Dropping the phone inside his pocket, T.K. sighed and followed everyone towards the ambulance.
-x-x-x-
"Mami, come on, I can get out of the car on my own," Carlos grumbled, pulling his arm away from his mother. "And I don't need help carrying my bag either. I'm okay, really. You don't need to fuss over me."
"You were just shot, Carlitos. Also beaten and stabbed. And you had surgery and spent almost two weeks in the hospital. You and your partner are both lucky to be alive," Andrea chided, making another attempt to grab Carlos' hand and snatching the bag from his son. "Besides, I'm your mother, it's my job to fuss over you."
"Not anymore, I have T.K. for that now," Carlos said, a mischievous smile on his face as he finally relented, letting his mother guide him out of the car and toward the entrance to the main house in the Reyes Ranch.
"I don't fuss," T.K. squealed indictantly, stepping out of the other side of the SUV.
"You do," Carlos, Andrea and Gabriel responded at the same time.
"I don't," T.K. protested.
"In the hospital you were getting up every five minutes to fluff Carlos' pillows," Gabriel said.
"And you kept offering a cup of water with the bendy straw and another blanket every time Carlos woke up," Andrea added.
"Not to say you threatened to call the nurses every time I so much as breathed the wrong way," Carlos finished.
T.K. could say nothing to that, so instead he grunted and moved to the trunk to grab the groceries they just bought on the way from the hospital. "I wonder if it is too late to call the station and ask to get back on tomorrow's shift," he mumbled under his breath, still pouting as the Reyes family ganged up on him.
"None of that, T.K. You're staying here with us. I was very glad to hear you requested a week off work to help Carlitos. I was starting to get a little bit jealous with you three bonding alone every time one of you gets hurt," Andrea said, the worry hidden behind her words evident, even as she tried to sound lighthearted. "And speaking of which, I don't want any more of that. You two have already gotten hurt enough to last me a lifetime. So no more gunshot or stabbing wounds, concussions or kidnappings," she warned.
"Sí, mami," Carlos easily agreed, knowing he could never really promise her that but still wanting to alleviate her fears.
"All this worrying and hospital visits are taking years off my life, mijo. You have to take better care of yourself. You know your Tía Emilia made it to 103 and she didn't do so by worrying so much!" Andrea continued to chastise her son, even as she leaned forward to press a kiss on his forehead. "And the other day I found a grey hair, could you believe that? Reyes women don't get canas, Carlitos."
"Enough of that, Andrea. Leave the boy alone, Carlos has had a long week and he needs to rest," Gabriel said, taking pity on his son. "And we don't want them running away to that condo of his, so let's not push too much." Taking Carlos' bags from his wife, Gabriel kissed her on the cheek before he ushered everyone inside.
"Don't worry, Sir. We're not leaving. I keep hearing about Andrea's famous hervido and I can't wait to try it," T.K. said cheerfully.
"Suck-up," Carlos mumbled under his breath.
"I would never," T.K whispered back, "give me those, Mr. Reyes, I can carry them for you," he added, louder this time, moving to grab the bags, even as his hands were already almost full with the groceries.
Carlos could only roll his eyes, even as the corner of his lip twitched upward. His heart bursting with love and gratitude as he saw the effort T.K. was putting into getting to know his parents.
"Come mijo, come sit on the couch and I'll bring some blankets for you," Andrea said, pulling Carlos away from his thoughts and into the house. "T.K, just set the groceries on the kitchen counter and I'll be right there. You boys can rest while Gabriel helps me chop the veggies. I will prepare a snack while the soup is ready."
"Andrea, leave the boys alone. I'm sure Carlos can get his own blanket and if not he can ask T.K. for help," Gabriel said in practiced ease, pushing his wife towards the kitchen and chuckling as his son mouthed a silent thank you.
"Thanks for being here," Carlos said softly, as he carefully lowered himself onto the couch, barely suppressing a grunt as his stitches pulled.
"There's nowhere else I'd rather be, Carlitos," T.K. said with a grin, his eyes sparkling with mischief, even as he continued to hover close, trying not to fuss over his boyfriend but at the ready in case he needed something.
Carlos grunted but said nothing, and just threw a pillow, hitting T.K. on the side of the head.
"I mean it. For a moment there, I thought I would never see you again, and I've never been so scared in my life," T.K. whispered, completely serious now and his eyes glistening with tears.
"I'm sorry for scaring you, you know I would never leave you willingly. Thank you for not giving up on me and continuing to search, thank you for finding me," Carlos whispered back, drawing T.K. to him and slowly wiping the tears from his eyes before his hands moved to cup his face and their lips crashed into each other.
"You have never given up on me, Carlos. And God knows I have given you ample reason, especially in the beginning. But now I'm here for the long run, if you would have me," T.K said sincerely, pulling back for a second before he moved forward again, deepening the kiss and pouring all his fears, relief and love into that one gesture.
"I would have you for all this lifetime and any other," Carlos murmured against his lips, "and I think my parents would agree. You're fitting in nicely as a Reyes."
"I like the sound of that, but I think my dad would have something to say about it and argue that you'd look good as a Strand too," T.K. said, surprising himself because the meaning of what their words were implying wasn't scaring him as much as he would have thought.
"Well, we can figure that out later, right? We have time," Carlos asked hopefully, remembering T.K's reaction the first time he had cooked them dinner and scared to push, but also happy that T.K. seemed open to the same future he dreamed for the two of them.
"We have all the time in the world, babe. Now time to rest," T.K promised, kissing Carlos one last time before he pushed them both down onto the couch. Carlos' head instantly coming to rest on T.K's shoulder as his eyes closed and his breathing evened out. Both T.K. and Carlos falling asleep within minutes, with Gabriel and Andrea, unbeknown to the pair, looking at them from the kitchen with big, hopeful smiles on their faces. Turns out Carlos and T.K. aren't the only ones with big dreams involving a joined Reyes-Strand family sometime in the near future.

As if we needed any more proof that Ace is Joe Hardy last night’s “Nancy Drew” had more with his “the woods speak to me” line and knowing how to undo that knot to save Nancy and George. Both Hardy Boys were in the Boy Scouts, but Joe always was more into it than Frank. The recent Hulu show even had Frank teasing Joe all about it but Joe’s abilities are always useful.
Also I finally talked to my parents about this theory about Ace being Joe and they totally agree as they both used to watch the 70s “Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mystery Hour” when they were teens. Alex actually looks a lot like Shaun Cassidy who played Joe on that show and my mom loved him, and my mom even sees a resemblance between Kennedy and Pamela Sue Martin as Nancy. I also see this now too. Again they’re just missing Frank but he’ll be here soon. As for the rights issue I’m sure they got the Hardy Boys as they also have The Bobbsey Twins and Tom Swift and they’re all under the same publisher and interconnected.
