some tips for working out your brain

hydrate it by drinking lots of water/water based liquids. if you are someone who cant stand drinking still/unflavored water, thats fine! dont believe the lie that "drinking juice/soda/other non water drink is worse than not drinking anything", the only drink that will actively dehydrate you is alcohol. its better to drink water, but drink what you can drink, your body will get the liquid from it either way

eat foods high in antioxidants; dark chocolate and blueberries and walnuts and salmon are common ones but there are many many others

play little brain games on your phone; wordconnect, water sort puzzle, i love hue, etc. anything that makes you think!

read books. It’s simple but necessary. join a book club (in person or online), read with a friend, post about the book in its fandom tags etc, so you can have discussions about it after. reading fanfic counts too! if you have trouble reading, try finding audiobooks online or finding a text to speech program that will read the books to you. this will improve your reading and media comprehension.

do puzzles - it doesnt have to be sudoku; you can play rhythm games like project sekai or piano tiles on mobile and OSU! or geometry dash on the computer, you can play tetris or pac man, you can do an actual physical puzzle on your coffee table, etc. anything that makes you think and use strategy is a puzzle, and theres a puzzle out there for everyone!

learn a new dance - even a tiktok trend dance. learning new dance moves are proven to strengthen synapses

go bird watching, foraging, hiking, anything outdoors that requires you to explore pattern recognition and visual searching. even if you're just identifying bugs and flowers in your back yard!

watch a movie with the intent of analysis. this is best done with a cinephile friend. talk about tropes and symbolism and character growth

cross stitch, knit, sew, or do anything that gets your hands moving and your brain thinking. if you don't have the dexterity for sewing you can also draw or paint, do coloring or color-by-number pages, connect-the-dots, gem painting, etc.

play or learn an instrument! if you don't have access to a physical instrument, try recreating songs you like (or make your own songs!) in a digital music program, like beepbox

develop a consistent sleep schedule, or as close to consistent as you can get

when eating, try to identify the ingredients and individual flavors you’re perceiving. pretend you're a wine sommelier, or that ice cream taster guy

Ascension to Apotheosis

Season 8 Featured on: The Joke-Explainer 7000™'s Highest Quality Rips: Sunrise

Tentative rip name: Apotheosis to Heaven

A big part of why I opened up the Request Form, and why I continue to use it for ideas for the blog, is to give me inspiration in areas of SiIvaGunner to which I'm less well versed. There are some games and some rips by extension where I feel completely unable to write anything of substance, because I just lack the needed context for the rip to hit for me - but other times, the form opens my eyes to rabbitholes which I'm all too happy to delve into, through rips like Plantasia 2, mlp racism anthem (comix zone arrange), guess what​?​?​?​?​?​?​?​? and more. I've learned to trust eg_9371's judgement on quality as a requestee, and many parts of his massive catalogue of contributions have shown me quality in areas I'd never thought to look, through rips like kris gaming and Plasmaseeker. And so, I said, you know what? Let's give his endorsement one more shake, and approach a rip I'd initially looked past as not being for me. With that, I hit play on Ascension to Apotheosis - and was met with one of the biggest surprise hits I'd yet heard in the season.

Journey is a game that hits home for a lot of people, yet it was just outside of my periphery when it originally released back in 2012 - I was an 11-year old without a PS3. But even without attachment to Journey, Apotheosis as an ending theme to the game hits home to a degree I wasn't expecting, a swelling orchestral piece going through feelings of anticipation, sorrow, bittersweetness, acceptance, all throughout the span of a 7-minute long composition. The overall word to describe it, of course, would be grand. Yet much the same can be said, on the complete opposite end method, for the song with which Ascension to Apotheosis is being mashed up with, Ascension to Heaven by independant artist Xi. Like with the aforementioned Plasmaseeker, this is a song I know damn near nothing about, most prominently being featured in various Japanese rhythm games but seemingly also having a presence within the Geometry Dash community. Yet despite holding even less of an emotional connection to me than Journey did, it cannot be denied just how impressive of a piece Ascension to Heaven truly is, pairing a pounding electronic percussion with mellow strings and absolutely off-the-rails piano rolls - what feels like three entirely different forms of music and speed, mesh together for a piece with a sound I can only describe with the imagery of a lone bird flying toward the sun.

Loneliness, bittersweetness, strife, failure, perseverance - the emotions distilled into me through these two tracks are ones that were no doubt eons stronger for someone with attachment to either of the works from beforehand, and most definitely strong within ripper Neofall upon creating Ascension to Apotheosis. These are two songs that are both pulsing with emotion, yet accomplish it through very sonically different methods, one through swelling orchestral resonance, and the other through a pounding piano-driven rhythm. Yet that emotional core remains, and through some miracle and no doubt tons of love for the pieces featured, Neofall found a way to blend the two pieces into one grand feature - leveraging Apotheosis' atmosphere and grandure in order to use it as background scoring to Ascension to Heaven's insane melody. Even with one piece falling to the background and another to the foreground, however, it never feels as if one is overpowering the other - the two leverage one another's strengths seamlessly for a listen that manages to hit harder than just the sum of both's parts.

Without a thorough understanding of music creation or of either track's true sonic makeup, part of me does still feel uneducated, in a sense, to be writing about a rip of this quality in sound and scale - it's a mashup like many others, yes, yet every part of it feels ironed out and sandpapered to sheer seamless perfection between two tracks that would otherwise feel borderline incompatible. Yet...seeing such quality persist within areas of the channel that I remain uneducated on, feels like part of the magic of the SiIvaGunner channel. We are currently on SiIvaGunner's 8th year in the running, with its rippers having grown all the more able to express their passions and interests than ever before - and Season 7 and Season 8 have, in turn, given us some of the most ambitious, personal rips we've yet seen on the channel. Be it Luna, mi Amor, edge of a balcony, The Paragoomba and the Wiggler, or so many more, we've had an onslaught of rips still only made by one to three people that feel creatively driven and magical enough to be justifiably mistaken for months-in-the-making passion projects. And even without a direct tie to its source material, Ascension to Apotheosis gives me that very same vibe: Of one ripper seeing what can be done through utilization of two tracks close to their heart, and going absolutely hog-wild in ensuring the execution be up to the standards raised by so many other parts of the SiIvaGunner team.

It is a blessing that we can be eight years into this channel's life, and still have rips of this caliber slip entirely through the cracks as if they're nothing but everyday, average rips. Today, the hearts of the SiIvaGunner team is on full display at just about every day of its operation - and I am eternally grateful that such seemingly niche pursuits like Ascension to Apotheosis remain part of that.

whenever i try to think of what my music taste is i'm like- i have multiple of them. there's me being a dedicated swiftie, constantly hoping that at least most of the midnights songs are on karaoke machines. those are the songs i can openly admit to loving.

and then there's the dsmp and among us songs. how do i tell others that i imagined "why" as a meaningful song about lying politicians at age ten. that is not a regular age ten thing. also until now i'm more patriotic to the my l'manberg anthem than to the bagong pilipinas hymn. and the among us songs. so suspicious! lies! ambush! the among us songs were incredible!

we don't talk about the hamilton songs. we just don't. like hetalia isn't my "bury this history underground and never speak of it", it's this. how do i admit that i sometimes still attempt to do the fast part of satisfied to the miku binder tumblr.

I’ve kind of always known who Sonic was tbh. Since my living memory I’ve always known of him, liked him well enough, but was never big into it because I wasn’t allowed to watch TV, didn’t have a video game device until I was 12, and didn’t have a phone either. But I do know I think I played Sonic R once at a friends house or at after school care or smth and somehow found Sonic Color’s theme song on like geometry dash or something. When I was like 12 I watched a LITTLE bit of Sonic X and liked it but wasn’t a big fan of Sonic because he was a jerk in my little uneducated child eyes. my partner got big into it over the summer and like I understood enough to hold a conversation but not much else, and he came over last winter break and we watched both of the Sonic movies together because I wanted to get into it for him and he told me based on the other media I like that I would love it.

he was so right oml. That same night we started watching Prime and he convinced me to buy Forces lmao. I knew enough that I understood what was going on in Prime and adored it. I played Forces and LOVED IT and then went online like ‘damn everyone hates this game? Maybe they just hate fun /silly’ and had a blast with it. He then had me play TMOSTH and that was basically the end of it. Got assigned Silver Kinnie at Birth, fell face first into the fandom, and never went back. I’m still kind of new here but I absolutely love it and it’s getting me through a rough time. Currently playing through frontiers spoiler free somehow !! Also the IDW comics DESTROYED me and introduced me fully to characters I previously didn’t know much about (Chaotix namely).

toh headcanons #1 (this might not even be a series im just numbering it for fun)

-gus is vegan or vegetarian. i got this from the illusion he made at the beginning of labyrinth runners. it was harder to find stuff for him to digest in the human realm but he was vehemently against giving up.

-willow is tone deaf and cannot sing for shit but does anyways. sometimes out of spite to annoy gus when he tells her it's the wrong notes

-eda tried to go to the human realm during the toilet paper shortage era of the pandemic and got the idea that toilet paper is actually a valuable human treasure worth a lot of money, so she has a toilet paper stash somewhere in the owl house and has pawned it off to gullible people at the night market

-at one point hunter got so deep into geometry dash that he wasnt sleeping or eating & it got a bit concerning. but he beat hexagon force!!!!

-luz does not want to think about voltron: legendary defender ever again. she prays every night that gus and hunter never find it. and shes agnostic, so that's saying something.

-when theyre stuck in the human realm amity discovers a love of tiktok-core music. especially mitski, taylor swift, marina and phoeboe bridgers' tiktok songs.

-kind of a sadder headcanon but considering the fact that gus never says parents & always defaults to "my dad," i think his other parent is completely out of the picture or maybe even dead. i say this as someone who always defaults to "my mom" so

-vee's as good as she is at spanish because in order to shapeshift you also gotta mimic other people's voices. only having to mimick sounds and intonation is a piece of cake compared to that.

-luz hyperfixated on polygons as a child and can name all of them up until enneadecagon. then the names got too confusing and the hyperfixation was drying up.

-hunter and king could have some really good conversations about being the only one of your entire species & also their entire families being dead. this show is so lighthearted guys

Tell me about the cubes.

assuming you mean geometry dash, unfortunately there is no angsty gd cube lore for you to hear of, but i can tell you about some of my favourite levels in no particular order!!!! (decoration and vibes-wise, i am not about to actually beat these anytime soon unfortunately)

xo by krmal

xo is a very controversial level because many think it is "lazy" as it uses extremely basic blocks with no decorations on them whatsoever. the most complicated it gets decoration-wise are the effects which are cool but not particularly flashy. this is why people don't like it and don't think it is worthy to be officially uploaded onto the servers.

however, i really like xo!!! it has genuinely incredible music sync, surprisingly well thought-out design and extremely interesting structure for the limitations the creator was putting on himself!!! levels like xo are great because of how original they are. in times like these ones for the community, where most extreme demons are generic glow with tight wave spam and straightfly as the only reason they are difficult, xo isn't afraid to completely challenge the oversaturated market of extreme demons by prioritising making an interesting level over making one that exists only for it to get attention for being on the demonlist (top 150 hardest levels in the game).

i'll put the rest under a cut because WOW i didnt expect to rant that much about xo...

2. LIMBO by mindcap + more

limbo is very hard to describe because, as cheesy as it sounds, its less of a level and more of a visual experience. even just watching a run of this level (which almost every player will have to do since it is very difficult) is surreal. there is so much creativity poured into every section of limbo that sets it apart from other levels. it is also incredibly consistent for a megacollab (a level where lots of people made small parts of it) but each part still feels distinct enough to be memorable while keeping to a central theme.

3. killbot by boldstep

killbot has one of the coolest concepts for an extreme demon out there. the supposed "story" behind the level is that the player has downloaded a corrupted computer program that is out to kill them (hence the name, killbot), and throughout the level textboxes appear showing the system attempting to delete the killbot virus. the level starts out green and as it progresses, turns into red and black as the virus corrupts more and more parts, until finally at the end the virus is said to have been forcefully deleted.

the level kinda hurts to look at because of all the flashing and general air decoration but still maintains a very cool atmosphere. it does not look fun to play though.

4. decode by rek3dge

finally a level within my skill range! decode is a simple level, but very effective. it has a great song, a certain iconic wave section, and it technically isn't anything special, but who cares. i've never seen anyone hate decode. it's a universally loved level, which is incredibly rare for the gd community, and even rarer considering its rated demon (albiet only easy demon).

fun fact: spaceuk, the perpetrator of one of the game's most shocking and destructive hacking scandals, beat decode as his first ever demon level.

5. emerald realm by castrix + more

this level is based on ori and the blind forest/ori and the will of the wisps, which are great games so that already makes this level super cool. but i think i speak for everyone who's ever seen this level when i say that emerald realm has some of the most beautiful decoration in any gd level. you can appreciate emerald realm as a piece of art regardless of whether you've played the ori games or not. (yes, culuc's part is obviously the best one, all hail culuc, etc).

6. jigsaw

nothing extraordinary about this one...but it's a saw-themed gd level that looks super cool. so of course it's one of my favourites, even if it's not had a huge impact on the community.

7. congregation by presta

(insert funny congregation jumpscare meme). congregation is controversial, similar to xo, because it has less than 40,000 objects, which doesn't sound like much to someone unfamiliar with the game - but the current hardest level has over 200,000 objects. so naturally some people were irritated when congregation was rated - another case of a level being seen as "lazy" by a large number of the community.

but...congregation is so cool! it has a technological atmosphere emphasised with a fitting song that creates a feeling of mystery, unease, and the incredibly long build up to the drop of the level as more and more things begin to appear that makes it surprisingly suspenseful. the second section of the level does bring it down for me but this is still a great example of an extreme demon that stands out from the rest.

also, it has no wave or ship, the gamemodes that extremes usually rely on to create difficult segments, which makes it even more original!

8. b by motleyorc and scorchv2

b is a medium demon set in a beehive. you must navigate the beehive while avoiding some scarily large bees with ._. faces. simple but effective level that pretty much everyone loves.

I do listen to edm a lot and I know that F-777 listeners definetly prefer his geometry dash tracks but I find Medusa so recommendation worthy. So heavy on all the big noises that I love and AUWGHDHF. Brain scratch

In a similar vein ROBOTIC NIGHTMARES BY DJ NATE IS REALLY GOOD. idk what it is abkut it but i think it's the lesser used instruments that i don't often listen to but jts oughh. It's really good.

Number 9  Techno

Techno is a genre of music that is popular especially in our parent's generation because it was seen as an advanced and new technology in the music industry, compared to other types of music techno doesn't have words.  It is a hardcore instrumental song with no lyrics and just a  repetitive 4/4 beat.  Techno can be a very complex genre because it has so many components starting from synthesizers, samplers, drum machines, keyboards, and sequencers.  It only takes a decent amount of knowledge with the software to create a good hit song and it really doesn't take talent or passion.  

I love music that is an uplifting beat but techno music doesn't have words, and to me I like lyrics. I have a big appreciation for the lyrics in songs.  Techno just makes me feel like I'm playing Geometry Dash or I'm watching an introduction to a watch mojo video what is that vibe.  Another reason I don't like techno is because electronic music really doesn't show me too much talent. I think real music is instruments that are learned to play with passion and years of practice, not just software programs you learn and mess around with to make a beat.  I think techno really decreases the value of music that I hold.

My whole family is very musical and growing up we were all forced to play an instrument and I started with piano. I quickly learned how much work I had to put in to keep going up levels, and I learned how much work it really took.  I find techno like an easy way of making music and it's not very likable to listen to.  It wouldn't be a good style to play in a lot of places or at certain times during the day. 

At the end of the day, Techno isn't ranked as my worst but it does stand at number 9.

the stuff you should know about me

Hi! I figured I'd make an introduction post for me to pin (since that's what everyone else is doing apparently) so here's everything you need to know about me:

If there's anything I missed or you want to know, feel free to ask me about it! I'm completely fine with getting random asks.

I'm AC39 (you can just call me Cake), I'm [REDACTED] years old and I live in Australia, and I have ADHD. All this stuff is in the bio so I don't have to repeat it. I came to Tumblr due to the great Reddit rapture as an r/196 native, so I'm very new to how stuff works around here, but I'll get used to it.

As you may have noticed, I LOVE the colour orange. Basically all of my personal belongings are orange (including clothes). Why orange? Who knows. I don't even like eating oranges.

Some of my actual hobbies are programming and game development. I haven't made any complete games as of yet, but I've been learning various coding languages for as long as I remember (and I'm not good at any of them lol). Currently I'm learning C++*, mainly as a way for me to get a better understanding of object-oriented programming before getting into game dev. Of course, math is also one of my personal hobbies, just not as much.

I also like just generally knowing about new things! If you see me reblogging really long posts about niche subjects then that's why. I'll try not to flood my blog with them that often(people don't like long posts for some reason)

Some other things to know:

Music: my favourite genres are breakcore and speedcore, my favourite music artist is Sunnexo, my (current) favourite song is Aegleseeker by Silentroom and Frums*.

Movies/Shows: don't really watch many of them, so my opinions on them are pretty limited. don't be surprised if I don't understand a show or movie reference

Video Games: all-time favourites include Geometry Dash (that's where the pfp comes from), Celeste, and Quaver. Rhythm games are one of my personal favourite genres and I've put a lot of time into them (I was once close to the top 1000 in quaver, but since then I've drifted towards other games)

Gender/Sexuality*: yeah i'll get back to you on that one. just use he/him.

Food: I have the pallete of a 9 year old. Favourite food is pizza (not cake, as many have assumed). Also, fun fact: I've never eaten a banana in my life. Never. I'm still willing to die on that hill.

Animals: never had any actual pets, the closest I've had to a pet is my neighbour's cat (Thomas). favourite type of pet are cats, but my favourite animal is a red panda (if you know what they look like, then you'd know why I like them so much)

Blahaj?: Yes. Two of them, actually (a big one and a small one).
