Look, I like Ghibli stuff but I'm not super involved in the fandom so maybe someone more knowledgeable has spoken about this BUT.....the way some of y'all talk about Hayao's son Goro is flat out gross and weird as fuck. You absolutely NEED to take Hayao off of whatever pedestal you've put him on and stop making your funny little memes about how his mistreatment of his son/family is OK because you don't like Goro's films. This is just like basic decency???
#ghibli#studio ghibli#goro miyazaki#hayao miyazaki#fandom culture#parasocial relationships#I have only seen Earwig and none of Goro's other works so I have no opinion on the quality of his films#the point is IT DOESN'T MATTER!!!!!!!! y'all are too eager to shit on this guy and make extremely personal jabs about his childhood#all because his dad made Ponyo or whatever and it's beyond fucking weird!!!! do you not feel weird pulling this shit?????#the whole thing of excusing a man's mistreatment of others with the fact that his art is revered is a goddamn plague#I literally love Ghibli films but come the fuck on#I have A LOT more to say but maybe I'll talk about it later

Some notes from watching Ghibli's Tales from Earthsea:
I guess they were hoping having Lebannen be a killer runaway would make him more engaging a character than he was in Le Guin's books. Certainly its a more exciting introduction than "was sent to Roke and Ged decided he should tag along." But this is hampered by how Lebannen and all these characters have maybe two character traits between them.
No matter how bad the movie is, if its a Ghibli film its gonna be beautiful. The background artists for this should be given a medal. Hork town especially is incredible:
Although these are clearly Ghibli asthetics more than Earthsea aesthetics. We got all your Ghibli staples: the weird mammals that are almost real animals, the random fighterpilot elements in the costume design, that one weird type of hood, etc.
I do like the action scene of Lebannen dealing with the slavers. Only well-paced part of the film I've seen.
The shadow "visiting" Lebannen while he rests was done very well. The color dimming, the shadow on the water, the rushing wind towards him, its all great. I'm especially a fan of how when Lebannen looks over his shoulder, he sees nothing but a stream of water coming out of a wall. Fits with what's actually happening on in the dryland very well.
The "Ged rescues Lebannen but only takes the chains off the other slaves" is a weird detail to keep in the adaptation, though I guess it's less an obviously dick move when the slaves aren't trapped on a boat with their former captors.
I feel mixed about this version of Cob? Making him the slaver lord isn't a bad choice, though it does kind of positions slavery in Earthsea as "the bad thing that the one bad guy is doing" instead of, y'know, a cornerstone of Hork Town's economy.
They don't make him an especially originally villain either. He's literally introduced with the old "flash of villains castle, lieutenant comes in nervously to report on escape, almost gets killed until he mentions something important" trope. They did kind of flatten him into the stock fantasy big bad.
But Cob from the books didn't really have a lot going on character-wise either, so its less offensive a flattening than some of the other characters. And I do like his character design alot. That eye makeup is some Hot Topic Shit but it works. The thin lips and tall everything is a type of exaggeration I don't see in Ghibli's character design very often.
Christ, Ged's monologue about the balance and true names is really just plopped on the audience's lap like a dead mouse. The bridge from "why does a wizard like farming" to "everything has a true name that wizard's use for its power" is nonexistent. They really couldn't find another place to explain the basics of the magic system? Couldn't seed it with Ged using true names while freeing the slaves? No? Lord.
The ghibli food twitters aren't gonna touch this movie. No love was put into that cheese.
Oh this depiction of the dry lands fucks. Love how the sky is a completely different artstyle than anything else in this movie, really sells this as a weird and alien place.
Hare and two suspicious women clutching each other and going "they're not from around here" are the only time this movie has felt like it knew what it was doing. They're giving them banter and the actors are being allowed to put emotion into their voices. They're actually breaking out facial expressions for these guys.
God all the dialogue is so bad.
WHEN IS THIS SONG GONNA FUCKING END
What the fuck is Lebannen and Tehanu's relationship. None of their emotional beats have any real connection.
The thing haunting Lebannen (are they giving him the gebbeth plotline?) always makes the best scenes. Lebannen struggling to wade through the muck while the shadow casually strolls atop the water's surface creates such great tension and horror.
Tenar keeps talking about being rescued from the tombs and pausing like there's about to be a flashback. Why are they bringing so much attention to that detail if they're not gonna tie it in to anything. Either have it be an aside to make the world feel richer without it being a thing your constantly gesturing at, or don't bring it up at all.
It really was a choice to take the worst Earthsea book as the main thing they're adapting. All the "life without death is no life" rubbish and not even Le Guin's prose to save it. It's not even a theme the rest of the movie seems concerned with.
Why are they taking something called "Earthsea" and making 90% the outskirts of Hork Town. We saw the ocean like twice. This supposedly expansive fantasy world feels twenty feet across.
Having Tehanu follow the gebbeth to the castle is honestly a really cool adaptational choice. I do like the weird conflict they set up between the gebbeth and Cob over who gets to have Lebannen.
Great shot of Cob getting amputated. Thats some Mononoke-level satisfying gore.
See when Ged didn't do shit for most of The Far Shore it was fine, because it was the third book in the series and the reader already knew why he was a big deal. Here we keep hearing how cool and powerful he is but get shown nothing.
2D has grown odd in his old age.
They have not set up dragons as a thing (or connectd them to Tehanu) nearly enough for this ending to work. Having Tehanu transform instead of calling Kalesin works adaptation-wise though.
Final analysis: I liked Hork Town. I like how the dragons trail sparks from their eyes. I like Cob going all gooey. I like Hare. These were the isolated pockets in an otherwise bland experience. The plot was barely held together and I can't imagine someone who hadn't read the books would be able to enjoy this at all.

get to know me!
I've been bestowed a tag from @imperatorrrrr ! 🥹 so now I'm on your dash hehe.
Do you make your bed?
Yes! Every single morning. It's really just rearranging my pillows and layering my blankets properly. I am entrenched in the routine.
Favourite number?
4. Perfectly even, perfectly square.
What's your job?
I'm a writer at my day job too, just less creatively inclined. I do a lot of technical writing, communications, and edit stuff like legal docs. I've read so many terms and conditions docs back to front lmao.
If you could go back to school, would you?
I already have! Halfway between my old job and new job I got an additional certificate.
Can you parallel park?
Yes, mostly because you need it to pass your driver's test where I live LOL. I don't use it often but I'm good at reverse parking so it kinda helps keep the skill fresh.
Do you think aliens are real?
100%. To quote Mr. Nico "I'd pragmatically approach the alien" Hischier, I'd be curious about them too.
Can you drive a manual car?
Absolutely not! BUT to echo imperatorrrrr it's kinda hot to watch someone who's good at it driving stick lmao
Guilty pleasure?
Garbage reality TV I can throw on in the background and just let it run. 90 day fiancé, selling sunset, selling the OC, singles inferno, things like that haha.
Tattoos?
More than 10!
Favourite colour?
Anything dark blue, dark green, or pastel pink.
Favourite type of music?
I will truly listen to anything at least once the only genre I haven't really enjoyed is opera. I lean more towards rock and metal rn. Just know that I edit all my fics to house music LOL idk what it is about that genre but it fucking slaps when I have to dial in.
Do you like puzzles?
I'm terrible at them but I like it.
Any phobias?
Trypophobia. I don't even know if I spelled it right but I am 2000% not gonna even risk checking.
Favourite childhood sport?
I was pretty sporty; I loved and still love figure skating, snowboarding, skiing, swimming, diving lol.
Do you talk to yourself?
Constantly. imo it's also literally the only way to guarantee your writing makes sense lololol I am always talking myself thru my writing at work and for fics.
Tea or coffee?
Tea in the mornings and coffee in the afternoons.
First thing you wanted to be when growing up?
A teacher, and then a journalist.
What movies do you adore?
The LOTR trilogy (of course), most studio ghibli films that came out before and including Howl's Moving Castle, the Matrix Trilogy, Pacific Rim, Anastasia, and sooo many more.

hiiii omg i saw ur a film nerd in ur about me post and so am i !! whats ur favourite movie/s :P
hello!!! and yes omg i always LOVE answering this question lmao so first and foremost:
my letterboxd top 4 <3 !
( explanations and honorable mentions under the cut ! )
1. little women (2019)
watched it with three of my best friends when it first was in theaters so that definitely added to the message and experience watching it. i love how greta gerwig directed the sister dynamic. she’s gone on record on interviews and also if you can find the screenplay itself that in the script the actors’ lines were written on top of one another to reflect the spontaneity and chaos of sisterhood and family through the film’s dialogue. so genius?!?! this adaptation just felt so real and genuine and i also see a little of myself in all the sisters 🫶
2. challengers
UGH i did like a whole deep dive here but in short: luca guadagnino you absolute mastermind. i love tennis, i love colorgraded film and photography, i love hot people!!!! story was insane, i quite literally had to sit in my car for like half an hour just processing when i got out the movie house before i felt normal enough to drive home lol.
3. emma (2020)
again i did a thorough tedtalk on this one. but i’m a big jane austen fan!!! and the aesthetics and score on this adaptation were just off the charts and so so lovely. love the regency era and i think they translated it to screen in a very appealing and classic (although maybe not entirely historical but hey it’s art) way. i’ll always come back to it as my comfort movie ngl.
4. call me by your name
amazing story. (not a love story mind you!!!) which is actually why it stuck with me sm bc i went in with my hopeless romantic self just to be fuckin crushed. watched it two summers ago and it took me like weeks to recover, it broke my heart in a way that felt so good. also just a downright beautiful film all around (colorgrade, cinematography, acting, music, everything!!). in guadagnino we trust!!!
honorable mentions:
watching the detectives (!!!)
lucy liu and cillian murphy? ummm FUCK YES? my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE in the romcom genre to date. they just match each other’s freak. and the whole movie is abt being film nerdy and awkward and weird and manic pixie dream girl and like lowk…. so ro-core fr!
shape of water
ok don’t call me a freak, it was pretty interesting— from the aesthetics, to the minimal dialogue, to the overall story. it’s a doozy but imo that shit was art. (or guillermo del toro was the real freak all along)
spirited away
my fav ghibli film bc it’s just so haunting in a way none of the other ghibli films are and i like that. like the way some of those characters were drawn was lowk gross—but i find that kinda gnarly. so over the top fantastical it makes my brain tingle in a certain way.
isle of dogs
my fav wes anderson film in both stop motion or live action (my fav live action of his was the most recent asteroid city tho!). truly art and has such a heartwarming story but at the same time the DRAMA. my lord. crazy how captivating the story was even if half of it was in largely unsubtitled japanese—unique choice but i actually liked what it added to the movie a lot especially considering the movie’s pov from an english-speaking dog. i’m actually a big cat person but i finished that movie so convinced that fuck yeah that dog is man’s bsf right there
the amazing spiderman movies
andrew garfield’s spiderman is my fav <3 but also i love the darker feel to this version of spiderman. maybe it’s bc i’m also a big batman/dc fan (sorry my marvel babes </3) and generally those movies have been handled with a more dark tone. but nonetheless andrew garfield is hot too so that’s a plus!
cruella
i’m lowk a disney hater but this movie was SO. CUNTY. fuck i loved it. the actors were amazing and the visuals and the FASHION were just mwah, especially compared to other disney live action films (😭).
maleficent & maleficent: mistress of evil
AGAIN, SO FUCKING CUNTY even if i’m a reluctant disney enjoyer. i watched the first installment when i was real young but in 3d at the movie house. SO COOL. watched the second one with my mom at home. IMMEDIATELY WATCHED IT AGAIN. angelina jolie is maleficent, n i love how these movies characterize the villain in such a genuinely human way i don’t think anyone could’ve seen coming when these babies first came out.
ok thats it finally 💋
#🍡 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗯𝗼𝘅#🪴 𝗿𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 !#🍃 𝗿𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝔂#this is probably more than you were expecting 😭#but if you want like my immediate recs#it’s my top 4 <3

Hi sweetie! For the for the 🎬 ask box game:
2 7 8 10 11 19 30 31 34 38 39 42
hii, this got long quick so i'm hiding under the cut hehe.
2. What movie do you wish you could unwatch?
Yes, there's probably more than one but the one that comes to mind the most is The Haunting of Redding Hospital, i like my horror movies and i thought this was gonna be an interesting one, but it was just so ridiculously boring i was annoyed at myself for buying it. (also i just looked at the reviews for it online and some people gave it 5 stars and i'm just thinking we're we even watching the same movie?! because it was garbage, pure utter predictable garbage)
7. Name a movie you’re emotionally attached to?
You've probably heard me talk about it several times by now, but it's The Goonies, was introduced to it by my late aunt when I was a kid and i've just loved it ever since.
8. What’s your comfort film?
Howl's Moving Castle, actually you know what make that just studio ghibli in general.
10. Most recent movie you saw in theaters?
Errrrrm... it's been a hot minute, i think it was Avengers Endgame, i keep meaning to go see more but i never remember what's on or coming out lol
11. A genre you just can’t stand.
i'd say probably romance, that's not me saying i've never watched anything from genre, there's probably movies in that genre i've watched and do enjoy, but romance can't be the sole genre for me it's gotta be woven in with something else or be like a minor side note in said movie. that and i just don't understand the appeal of some of them?
19. Name a movie so bad it’s good.
ThanksKilling, yeah from the outset it's a shitty produced thanksgiving themed horror, but if you're not taking the shitty production seriously then it's fucking hilarious, just don't watch the sequal ThanksKilling 3, it's kinda boring in comparison and i almost fell asleep watching it, no actually thinking about it i think i did genuinely half fall asleep while watching it lol - for reference i watched both of these as a lets watch with achievement hunter so it probably seemed funnier at the time lol.
30. Are you looking forward to any upcoming releases?
Well, since i finally watched Beetlejuice for the first time this this year, i'm currently looking forward to Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and it's pretty much the only thing i know currently soon releasing that i would actually consider watching.
31. Do you remember the first movie you saw in theaters?
I can't remember if it was the first first movie i ever saw in theaters but the earliest i can remember is A Bug's Life.
34. Which film is the most visually beautiful?
There's loads but it's hard to narrow down, so i am again just gonna answer, majority of the studio ghibli movies lol
38. In your opinion what is the most overrated movie?
There's not many i would considered overrated tbh? but there is something i don't plan on watching but i kept seeing ads for that i would maybe consider overrated? so yeah i kept seeing ads for This Ends With Us on constant repeat over on YT a while back, and while i understand the reason why the story has and is being told, both in movie and book form, i don't understand why anyone would want to go see a movie masking itself as a romantic movie when it's main plot point is about a women in an abusive relationship?
39. In your opinion what is the most underrated movie?
I haven't seen it in forever but I'm gonna go with Creep, and no not the 2014 movie of the same name people are probably thinking of that's about a videographer recording the wishes of a dying man? (idk i haven't watched it but may do in the future). No i'm talking about the 2004 movie called Creep, i'll try not to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it and may wish to watch but it revolves around a women getting trapped in the London Underground after missing her train home but she soon discovers she's not alone yada yada yada. I'll say it's underrated because, to me at least, it literally gets overshadowed by the movie of the same name and i never see this version ever get talked about, and it got me thinking of another horror/comedy called Severance (again not to be confused by the tv show of the same name) which i also haven't seen in forever. Put basically i think the British horror genre in general might be the one that's being made underrated lol.
42. Show me a pic of your favorite movie poster.
I don't have any movie posters up anymore unfortunately, but then i also have no space to put them, i do have an avengers infinity war/endgame canvas my parents got me for xmas one year, i know they knew i liked marvel but i'm not entirely sure the thought that process through as my rooms walls are more or less all covered by shelves or furniture of some sort, i guess it's the thought that counted huh? but anyway, here's a pic of fluff investigating the giant thing that i can't actually have in my room due to space lol
(it's currently in the corner of my parents room lol)
🍿🎬 Send me a movie ask 🎬🍿

Howl's Movie Castle Review
What's with the Ghibli movies? Well the theater is just doing a month of Miyazaki films right now, and I'm taking the opportunity to watch all of them and lessen my Ghibli blind spot. And boy howdy, am I glad I am. Next week is My Neighbor Totoro, but I've seen that before so I'm not sure if I'll review it.
What's The Movie About?
Sophie is a quiet haberdasher who one day gets saved by a very handsome wizard, cursed by a witch to become old, then works for the handsome wizard as his housecleaner while trying to break her curse and get him to fall in love with her. Howl is the name of the wizard, by the way. (I feel like my synopses get worse every review.) Also, war is happening and it's bad.
What I Like.
There is so much about this movie that specifically tickles me. Obviously the animation is excellent, it's Studio Ghibli. With Howl's specifically I was admiring the backgrounds, I love how busy they are with little trinkets and knickknacks all over the titular castle. I also really like the characters. Sophie is an almost perfect protagonist for me. She's driven, yet not obnoxious. She can be both funny and dramatic, she makes a positive impact on everyone she meets, but she's also flawed. Howl's gonna get his own paragraph, but I love all the Moving Castle family members. I really like Markl's wizard disguise. Calcifer is also great and funny, I really like how demons work in the movie. I'm totally gonna steal the swallowing stars to turn your heart into a demon thing for an RPG, it's so cool. I also really like the Witch of the Wastes, and I like that even after she is welcomed the family she's still very selfish and vice-prone. And there's even a dog character I like! I really love the magic in the movie. I don't know if I can explain this properly, but I love when magic is unknowable but has definitions. Like when a fantasy story has a wizard who just seems to be able to do whatever they hell they want just by flicking their wrist or whispering a word, and then they come across something magical and they turn to their non-magic friends and is like "These are the Runes of Shiiiiiiiii'rak. I read a tome that will help me translate the spell they inscribe." I think that's cool. I don't mind if a story goes full unknowable or reality warping magic, but I find stories that try to explain magic fully get bogged down by minutia of it all and rarely ever make sense. I also really like when magic has a lot of physical components to it, like magicians need to take damage or physically manipulate magic to get their spells to work, like when Howl removes the Witch's message from the table. The worldbuilding in this movie is fantastic. I mentioned the demon heart thing, but I also like the designs of the flying machines that the two nations have, the goop creatures employed by both the Witch of the Wastes and the armies are kinda freaky to be honest, and again, the Moving Castle looks so cool! The movie starts with a shot of the Castle, which is the perfect opening. The final shot is also perfect, now that I think about it.
And finally, Howl. This portion is literally just going to be gushing about how hot he is, so skip to the next session if you don't care. He is so goddamn sexy. I almost never get on with playboy characters, because more often than not their personalities are so horrendous that it makes no sense that anyone would want to sleep with them. I totally get why Howl has the reputation he has. Not only is his first introduction with Sophie incredibly smooth, he actually has a pretty likable personality. I mean, he has his moments of being obnoxious, but once they explain why I totally sympathized. Also, and this is obviously just a me thing, but I liked all his monstrous forms. I like birds, and monsters, and he's a bird monster. Basically it doesn't matter what he looked like, I'd still let him fuck me if he wanted. I'm not sorry.
What I Didn't Like.
Admittedly, the story feels like two plots that don't quite mesh together. I wouldn't even call it a case of "we're just examining what this world is like" since they are both equally prominent in the story. It just feels like the curse story wasn't long enough for a feature film so they added the anti-war story as well. Also, there was like one scene where Howl is a bitch and Sophie runs off to cry and I wasn't sure why it was happening, but I got to see Ghibli's gorgeous tears animation and so I ain't mad.
Final Summation.
As of time of writing, I have seen 5 Ghibli/Hayao Miyazaki movies. This, Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, and The Boy and the Heron. I like them all. But Howl's is my favorite.
Listen. It may not be the most polished movie ever. The plot is more like two smashed together. But goddamn do I like the characters. And goddamn is the world cool. And goddamn is the animation gorgeous. And goddamn is Howl HOT! GET OFF MY BACK SPIRITED AWAY STANS!

pomegranate, imperial and sangria for the ask game!
[For The Shades of Red Ask Game]
Pomegranate: Favorite and least favorite fruits?
Love a good grape or a good strawberry. Do not put grapefruit near me.
Imperial: What film, in your opinion, has the best cinematography and/or special effects?
Oh, god. You can't ask me that question. I've seen so many fucking movies. This isn't going to be one film, it's going to be a list.
The first things that comes to mind as far as live action films go is Candyman (2021). Watch the original Candyman (1992) before you watch that one for context- the 2021 film is a sequel. Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022), NOPE (2022), and Get Out (2017) are incredible, too. Malignant (2021) has some fantastic practical effects, and I'd be a war criminal to not mention the Peter Jackson The Hobbit Trilogy and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy respectively.
Animated films, though? I have to bring up the obvious answers- the Spider-Verse series, and any movie by Satoshi Kon. Perfect Blue (1997) and Paprika (2006) jump out at me, though. Tokyo Godfathers (2003) is also very much so worth the watch. It'd be a crime to not mention AKIRA (1988) and The End of Evangelion (1997). And... Gonna mention my favorite Ghibli movie for fun, here: Grave of the Fireflies (1988).
Sangria: To what extent do you enjoy sour candy?
Not at all my go-to. Sorry to disappoint my fellow American queers, but I'm really not a candy guy, especially not sour candy. My favorite candy is literally fucking Raisinets. I prefer spicy foods over sour foods by a margin of a goddamn lot.

This one is rough, I enjoy Kiki's more, but inevitably had to vote for Who Framed Roger Rabbit for being one of the most groundbreaking, ahead-of-its-time animations to exist.
It did more for animation around the world than Kiki's Delivery Service (Ghibli has other movies that broke boundaries on the technical side), and it was also one of the first times in movie history that we got multiple commercial IPs working in harmony and signing contracts to all be available on the same movie, which is how we get so many different cartoons from different studios in the same space. Do you know how fucking insane it was to have Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse in the same box office feature film (hell, talking to each other in the same frames!!!) without Disney buying the studios first? (Lmao sigh). Even when we saw it on release, we knew that was special, and that it had never been done before to this scale.
Spielberg convinced Warner Bros., Fleischer Studios, Harvey Comics, King Features Syndicate, Felix the Cat Productions, Turner Entertainment, and Universal Pictures/Walter Lantz Productions to "lend" their characters to appear in the film with (in some cases) stipulations on how those characters were portrayed; for example, Disney's Donald Duck and Warner Bros.' Daffy Duck appear as equally talented dueling pianists, and Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny also share a scene. (from the Wiki article)
Gonna be sad if Kiki's wins this one, even though I do actually find it more mentally enjoyable and light-hearted and easy to watch. Firstly, I think quite a few folks voting this round have never seen WFRR, and secondly, I think very few folks know how groundbreaking this movie was for animation globally.
WFRR single-handedly renewed interest in The Golden Age of Animation, and created or was at the forefront of the modern animation age in the USA - we literally wouldn't have Dreamworks or the Disney Channel, the Disney Renaissance (and all Disney Renaissance movies, like The Lion King, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast etc.) or The Simpsons and so many other things without this movie existing. Disney-Touchstone could not have predicted the entire world turning to animation as a valid genre for adults as well as children with a single movie.
It's like putting the Beatles up against My Chemical Romance. Sure, MCR will win, but...well...
(And I love Studio Ghibli and have written a thesis in it, this choice is killing me lmao)
(That being said if you'd pitted WFRR against like, Grave of Fireflies I'd be in misery here lmao, because that movie has done so much for the depiction of war, and like...has the same kind of cultural heavy-hitting momentum that WFRR does. An easy decision for me, but it'll probably be a sad outcome. This movie isn't watched by anyone anymore, and its relevance no longer matters to most. (Obvs I know some people will know it's relevance and still pick Kiki's, we all have different metrics for judging these things. I just know that the majority of animations to come would not be on this list if it wasn't for Who Framed Roger Rabbit, so I'm paying my respects to one of the greatest legacy films of all time).
(I haven't even had a CHANCE to talk about what it did with blending live action and 2D but if anyone here likes Space Jam pay your damn respects! Lmaoooooo)
80s Movie Tournament Side A
#pia did media studies a long time ago#pia on media#i know y'all watching this are just gonna pick kiki's it's okay#it's a fucking banger of a movie too

My Heart Has Gone To You | 03
pairing: lee jihoon x f!reader genre: fluff, college!au, suggestive at the end ch notes: jealous jihoon (when is he not in this fic), use of bunny as pet name, very domestic, aggressively in denial jihoon w.c.: 2.5k a/n: this is a shorter chapter with literally next to nothing, not exactly a filler but not much plot either
< prev | m.list | next >
You’re lounging around your apartment, watching a movie with Jihoon, when your phone pings.
When you woke up from your nap after Jihoon totally wrecked you, he convinced you to order some take out and put on a movie with him. You’re watching one of your favorite Studio Ghibli films while your feet sit in Jihoon’s lap, his hands absentmindedly rubbing them.
You were glad that even if you had your sexy moments with Jihoon, you still got the sweet and soft moments. You loved doing anything with Jihoon, even if it was just something mundane like doing laundry. That’s how you know Jihoon is your best friend, you don’t have to do something extravagant to enjoy your time together.
“Are you going to get that?” Jihoon’s voice pulls you from your thoughts. His head is tilted towards your phone on the coffee table that keeps buzzing. You reach down to pick it up and see you have a myriad of texts from an unknown number.
Unknown: Hey Y/N!
Unknown: I hope your hangover isn’t too bad, you were pretty drunk last night lol, so was I though so don’t feel embarrassed
Unknown: Anyways to the point, I had lots of fun last night, and I was thinking about that date and I was wondering when you were free
Unknown: It’s Namjoon, from the party last night btw (I hope you remember me)
Unknown: Oh and if you were wondering I got your number from Seungcheol, hope that’s okay
Unknown: Anyways just let me know when you’re free!
Unknown: You’re probably busy right now so I’ll leave you alone haha, bye
Your brow furrows as you stare down at the texts. You did remember Namjoon, he just happened to slip your mind while Jihoon was fucking your brains out, even though he was the reason why Jihoon was fucking your brains out.
Seven texts is…excessive, you think. He seems very eager to take you out on a date though. You’re torn between accepting to be nice, lying and saying you don’t remember him, or just all out turning him down.
“Okay bunny, who’s bothering you.” Jihoon sees the way you bite your lip the way you do when you’re thinking really hard.
“The, uh, guy from last night, Namjoon? Yeah he just texted me. He wants to go on a date,” you tell Jihoon. His hands stop massaging your foot for a second but then start up again as he responds.
“Did you get his number last night? Your phone was in my pocket the whole time.” Due to the lack of pockets on your costume you had entrusted the safety of your phone with the boy went to the party with.
“Apparently Cheol gave him my number?” You groan and drop your phone into your lap. “Jihoonie what do I do?”
You know that you and Jihoon agreed you’re allowed to go on dates but honestly that part of your whole arrangement doesn’t really appeal to you. You don’t get what the point of a boyfriend is when you have Jihoon. He’s basically your boyfriend and he fufills your sexual desires as well. You don’t even flirt with other guys anymore, unless it’s to make Jihoon jealous.
“Do you like this guy?”
“I mean, not really? I don’t like any guy Ji. Dating is fruitless, not to mention I don’t have the time or energy for a boyfriend. He was nice and fun to hang with for the night but not date worthy. The only reason I even let him approach me was because someone,” you dig your heel into his thigh, “wouldn’t come dance with me.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know.” Jihoon rolls his eyes at you. “Just tell him you were too drunk to know what you were doing last night and that you’re not looking for anyone. And then I’ll have a talk with Seungcheol about giving your number out to strangers.”
“What would I do without you Ji.” You pull your feet off his lap to shuffle to his side as you snuggle into it. You press a kiss into his cheek before settling down to draft your text. He wraps an arm around your shoulders and he watches you type out your response to Namjoon.
You: hey namjoon! haha yea last night was pretty crazy and you seem sweet and all, but im just not looking to date right now. like you said i was kinda really drunk last night so im sorry for whatever i said to you that time. once again, really sorry!
You hit send and then toss your phone back onto the couch. Jihoon smiles down at you and pulls you closer to his side as you guys focus back on the movie.
Jihoon knows he doesn’t have feelings for you. He’s thought about it plenty of times and he’s sure that he feels nothing but sexual and platonic feelings towards you. You’re his best friend so of course you guys have good chemistry, but that doesn’t mean you guys should date.
You guys are also both incredibly busy. You barely have time for each other now and dating would just make everything much more complicated.
Jihoon is only possessive over you because he’s your best friend. He’s seen you go through too much heartbreak to not be a little protective. Not to mention you are his best friend. If you start dating someone then all of your limited free time will go to them and not him. Jihoon does not like sharing, especially when it comes to you.
Plus if you start dating someone that means you and Jihoon have to stop hooking up which would suck for him. Not only are you one of the best lays he’s ever had but your guys' chemistry just worked well and he wouldn’t be able to replicate that with anyone else.
So yes, hearing you say that you don’t want to date anyone makes him a little happy, but not because he likes you, only because it would be inconvenient for him if you start dating someone.
You two hear the front door opening and look over to see Sana walking in, her hand over her eyes. “Is everybody decent?” She calls, not realizing you guys are sitting right in front of her.
You stand and walk over to your roommate, pulling her hand away from her eyes. “Yes.”
“Oh great!” A grin spreads across her face before it turns into a pout. “Seungcheol’s couch is so uncomfortable.”
“Did Soonyoung bring you home?” You question as you take your spot back at Jihoon’s side.
“Yep! I swear he’s onto you guys though, he noticed Jihoon’s car in the parking lot. He also mentioned that it’s weird how often Jihoon sleeps over.”
“It’s not that weird, we’re literally best friends. Of course we’re going to spend time together.” You roll your eyes at your roommate and focus back on the movie.
“Whatever.” Sana starts to walk towards her room. “Oh, and if you guys are going to fuck later can you keep it down? My earbuds are broken.” With that her door closes and you bury your head into Jihoon’s neck, embarrassed.
“You need to buy groceries,” Jihoon tells you. He is trying to make you guys dinner but apparently there isn’t enough food in your apartment to make anything decent. You groan and flop back onto the couch.
You had meant to go grocery shopping sometime in the past week but you were always too busy with your classes, working, photoshoots, the newspaper, and theatre costuming. It slipped your mind completely during your free time as well because that was taken up by either your girls or Jihoon.
“C’mon lazy bones.” Jihoon is at your side, pulling you up onto your feet. “Let’s go shopping right now and I’ll make us dinner when we get proper ingredients.”
“I look gross right now Jihoon.” You’re also not fully dressed. You’re in an oversized shirt that you probably stole from Mingyu at some point and a pair of panties. Your hair isn’t done and sits in a mess on top of your head.
“Then go get ready. And put pants on.” Jihoon slaps your ass playfully as you walk towards your room.
You fix up your hair first and then pull on a pair of jeans and switch out the oversized t-shirt for one of the plain black tees that you know are technically Jihoon’s, but they’re in your room so it's free real estate. You grab a jacket and pull on your shoes and walk back into the living room where Jihoon is waiting for you.
When you get to the grocery store Jihoon grabs a cart and you wrap your hand around his arm. You point out random things and make silly comments as Jihoon actually focuses on buying food. He doesn’t mind your playfulness though, he thinks it makes doing errands more bearable.
You guys are in the noodle aisle as Jihoon ponders over what kind of ramyeon to buy when he hears your name called out.
“Y/N? Is that you?” You both turn and are faced with a tall, muscular, handsome man. He has dark silky hair and a smooth, slim nose. He’s obviously very handsome and Jihoon wonders who he is if he knows you.
“Hyunwoo!” Your hand drops from his arm to greet the man. He pulls you into a soft side hug before pulling back.
“What a coincidence seeing you here.”
“Yeah, it’s been a while hasn’t it? I didn’t know you were back in town. How are you?”
“I’m doing well.” Jihoon can see the hint of a blush dusting your cheeks as you talk to the man, Hyunwoo.
Jihoon knows you’re attractive, of course, and that means that you will, in turn, attract other men, but he doesn’t understand where this fleet of tall, handsome men is coming from. He tries his best to focus back on the shopping but can’t when you’re giggling like that, your hand resting on his bicep.
“Well I gotta get going, but it was really nice to see you Y/N. We should get together some time.”
“Yeah, okay.” Your voice is soft and shy. The only time Jihoon gets to hear that voice is when he fucks you sweet and slow, but this guy is getting it out of you with no effort.
You give the guy another hug and he walks off. When you turn back to Jihoon he sees the pink blush across your cheeks.
“Who’s that?" He grunts.
“Hyunwoo? We work together.”
“At the agency?” Jihoon knows all of the guys you worked with at the restaurant, he isn’t one of them.
Your second job is as an apprentice photographer in some fashion modeling agency with a bunch of professionals. You’ve been there for a while but Jihoon isn’t as in touch with that part of your life because you’re classified to some things due to working with brands and models and unreleased products.
“Yeah, he’s one of the models hired. He’s super nice, always willing to help me out even though he’s not a photographer. He was out of town on a promotion thing though so he hasn’t been at the office recently, it was nice to see him.” You go back to looking over the ramyeon before picking out a bulk pack of spicy Shin Ramyun noodles. You then move over to grab a bulk pack of Jjajangmyun as well. You place them in the cart but Jihoon is now distracted.
“How old is he?” He knows most of the other photographers are much older than you but he doesn’t know much about the models.
“Hmm, twenty-four? I think.” Jihoon frowns at that answer. What is a twenty-four-year-old doing flirting with a twenty-year-old? “C’mon we still need to get rice and kimchi. I think tteokbokki is on sale as well.”
Jihoon tries to forget the guy as you guys make your way through the store. You guys get what you need, if not even more (after you dragged Jihoon to the snack aisle), and then head back to your apartment.
As you guys are cooking dinner together (mixed together Shin Ramyun and Jjajangmyun, Jihoon’s favorite) but he just can’t get that Hyunwoo guy out of his mind. He’s a goddamn model, how can he just ignore that.
“Hey Y/N?”
“Yes?” You look up from the boiling noodles to your best friend.
“Earlier you said that you don’t like any guy right?”
“I mean yeah. Unless we’re talking about you and the boys, but that’s different.”
“So what about Hyunwoo? You seemed pretty flustered talking to him. I thought you didn’t get crushes.”
Your face flushes as he calls you out. You turn away from him and back to the noodles. “That’s different. He’s…not a college boy. It’s not even a crush, more like a harmless fun fantasy.”
“If he asked you out on a date, would you go?”
“You’re full of questions tonight aren’t you,” you mutter, then sigh. “I don’t know. Probably not. I’m still super busy. But I guess it would be nice to know that a guy like him likes me. It won’t happen though, so that’s why I can think about it. It’s just futile what-ifs that the girls and I like to entertain once in a while.”
“I mean, he seemed pretty interested in you.” Jihoon pauses for a second before asking his next question. He’s already this far in, he can’t stop now. “So if this Hyunwoo wanted to fuck you, would you say yes?”
You huff and turn towards Jihoon. “What’s got you so jealous today Ji? I don’t want to fuck him, and not just because we agreed not to sleep with other people.”
You walk up to Jihoon and he can see your pupils are blown wide with lust and he wonders what caused the change in the few seconds of you being annoyed at him to now being horny.
You grip his face and make him look at you as you whisper your next words, “You are the only person I want to fuck me, Lee Jihoon.”
The use of his full name has his dick twitching in his boxers and then he’s kissing you forcefully. He presses you up against the kitchen counter and it digs into your back. Your hands are all over each other and Jihoon’s hand is just snaking down your pants when the sound of bubbling distracts you guys.
You both look over to see the water boiling over the pot and onto the stove and you groan, remembering that you were in the middle of making dinner. Jihoon moves over to the stove and moves the pot off of the burner and then turns back to you. You’re about to mention the noodles but then Jihoon is picking you up and carrying you to your bedroom and soon the dinner is forgotten all together.

Writing Chinese characters set within Western worlds
If you don’t want to read it on tumblr, go check this out on medium or go follow me on instagram at @annessarose_writes!
Alright. You know what. I’ve seen plenty of stereotypes in fiction (and in social media) that are so incredibly pervasive I’ve seen many Chinese people within the western world internalize it themselves. So here’s a rough guide on writing Chinese characters in an English-speaking Western setting, written by me, a Chinese Canadian woman.
If you’re here to say something racist fuck off. Otherwise, welcome! This is not a comprehensive guide by any means. This is merely a brief overview based on my own experiences. My experience (as someone in North America) will differ from someone living in, say, Europe or South America. I’m not representative of every Chinese person because everyone’s experience is unique. So here were are.
1. Our names
Chinese names are usually written as follows: [family name] [name]. Let’s take a Canadian historical figure as an example: 黃寬先. In Chinese, it’s pronounced “Wong Foon Sien.” On Canadian documents — which are written [First name] [Last name], he’d be called “Foon Sien Wong.” He went by “Foon Sien” for most of his life. That’s his full “first name.” Nobody would call him Foon because that’s just half of his name (unless given permission). It’d be like meeting a stranger called Alex and calling them “Al” right off the bat. Sure, they could go by Al, but you don’t know that.
For those of us living in the Western world, some of us have both a Chinese name and an English name. In these cases, our Chinese name becomes our middle name in English (e.g. a character could be called John Heen-Gwong Lee).
For some people who immigrated to the Western world but were born in China, their legal name would be their Chinese name. Some choose to keep that name. Some choose an English name as their “preferred” name but keep their Chinese name on legal documents. It varies.
2. Parents & Stereotypes
There’s two stereotypes which are so pervasive I see it being used over and over in jokes even within Chinese (and, to a larger extent, asian) communities:
The [abusive] tiger mom and the meek/absent dad
Both parents are unreasonably strict/abusive and they suck
I have yet to see any fiction stories with Chinese parents where they’re depicted as kind/loving/supportive/understanding (if you have recommendations — please do send them my way). Not all Chinese parents are tiger parents. Chinese parents — like all parents — are human. Good god. YES, they’re human! YES, they have flaws! YES, they are influenced by the culture they grew up in!
That isn’t to say there aren’t parents like those tropes. There are. I know this because I grew up in a predominantly Chinese community where I had many a friend’s parent who was like this. Parents who compare their kids to the best kid in class. Parents who force kids into private lessons and competitions that the kid despises because the parents think it’s for the best. Parents who have literally called their kid a disappointment because they didn’t get 100%.
But please, also consider: there’s parents who support their child’s goals and who listen. Not all parents force their kid into the stereotypical trifecta of lawyer/doctor/engineer — I know of a good number who support their child in choosing the path they want. There’s parents who make mistakes and learn and try their best to support their child. So please, for the love of god, if you write a Chinese character, don’t reduce their parents to stereotypes.
3. Language & Learning
When I first read The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan, I was so excited to see a Chinese Canadian character in Frank Zhang. Finally, there was someone like me. Finally, there was representation in well-known western media.
While I do appreciate that RR added in Frank Zhang, it’s pretty obvious that he didn’t really know how to write a Chinese Canadian character. One of the most glaring examples: in The Son of Neptune, Frank reveals he can’t really read Chinese. In like, the next book (I think — it’s been a while since I read it), Frank is suddenly able to read Chinese because he “learned” it in two week’s time.
Nope. Nuh-uh. Learning Chinese is a pain, let me tell you. There’s thousands of different characters and it is something you need to devote a lot of time to learning (especially if you’re progressed past the best childhood years for learning a language). So if you’re writing about a Chinese character living in the western world, here’s what you need to know:
A character who was born and raised in the western world does not necessarily know how to read/write in Chinese.
If they were raised by their own family, the character would very likely know how to speak their own dialect. They’d be able to understand the language used in movies/TV and they sound like a native speaker, but they may not know how to use language outside of certain contexts (the term for this is heritage speaker).
They probably went to Chinese school. They probably hated it. Chinese school is usually universally hated and does not teach you jack shit other than a hatred for the place and a vague memory of learning how to read the language without actually retaining knowledge of what you learned.
Most of my friends who know how to read/write in Chinese learned from tutors, parents, or were born in China.
There’s two main types of written Chinese: Traditional (used by Cantonese speakers) and Simplified (used by Mandarin speakers).
There are MANY other dialects (which I don’t know much about). The most common ones are Mandarin (usually spoken by people from the mainland), then Cantonese (usually spoken by people from Hong Kong).
4. Fitting into the community
Usually, the story is one of two things: they’re the only Asian kid in the entire school, or they grew up in a predominantly East Asian community. Things to consider for both of these when you’re writing:
Growing up the only Asian kid
They’re “that Asian kid.” They’re different. They walk into a class and feel weird and out of place.
They bring food from home (usually ethnic cuisine) to school. Other classmates stare at it, make fun of it, demand what that strange food is.
“Where are you from?” “Here.” “No, like, where are you really from?”
“Your name is funny.”
People literally never getting the character’s name right.
And that horrible, horrible feeling: wishing that they were white so they could avoid all of this.
Growing up in a predominantly East Asian community
It’s not uncommon for Chinese cuisine to mix with other east Asian cuisines. For special occasions (or just for a casual night out), your character could very well go out to get some sushi, or go for some KBBQ, or get some Vietnamese noodles.
Screaming “AIYAA” at/with their friends unironically if they’re annoyed (I’ve done this a lot with Cantonese friends. Less so with Mandarin friends).
Slipping into Chinese for like, two words, during a mostly-English conversation to talk about food or some other topic that can’t be adequately conveyed in English.
Reading books by white authors and learning about white history and growing up thinking white names, white books, and white history is the norm and standard even though the community is surrounded by East Asian people.
When the character leaves this community, there’s a brief culture shock when they realize how sheltered they’ve been.
Things in common for both of these:
The character has grown up on ethnic cuisine. Yes, Chinese people do eat rice with many of our meals. Yes, boba (bubble) tea is extremely popular. No, rice isn’t the only thing we eat. No, not all Chinese people love boba (though as a Chinese person I admit this sounds sacrilegious to say…)
The character likely grew up watching film/TVthat originates from East Asia. It’s not uncommon to watch Studio Ghibli films. It’s not uncommon to watch Japanese or Korean shows with canto/mando dub (examples: Ultraman, Kamen Rider). If you want to see a classic Chinese film from Hong Kong that’s fucking hilarious, watch Kung Fu Hustle.
The character has felt or been told that they’re “too westernized to be Chinese, but too Chinese to fit into the western world.” They’re torn between the two.
5. General portrayal
It’s quite simple, really. We’re human. We’re regular people. We have regular hobbies like all people do. We’re good at some subjects and bad at others. We have likes and dislikes like all people do. So here’s a list of stereotypes you can avoid.
STEREOTYPES TO AVOID BECAUSE WE’RE REGULAR HUMANS AND WE DON’T FIT INTO A SINGLE COOKIE CUTTER SHAPE, DAMMIT.
The character is a maths whiz and perfect at all things STEM.
The character is a straight-A+ gifted/IB/AP student.
The character is the next coming of Mozart and is amazing at piano/violin.
The character’s free time is spent only studying.
The character is insanely good at martial arts.
The character is either meek and submissive or an explosive, dangerous force.
I’m not going to mention the other stereotypes. You know, those ones. The really obvious ones that make fun of and demonize (sometimes through multiple untruths) how we look and how we live our lives. You should know.
Of course, there are people who fit into one or more of these. That’s not the point. The point is: molding all Chinese characters to these stereotypes (which white media tends to do) is harmful and reductionist. We’re more than stereotypes.
—
6. Conclusion
We need more diversity in portrayal of Chinese characters. Reducing us into one-dimensional caricatures has done nothing but harm us — look at what’s happening now. This guide is by no means comprehensive, but I hope it has helped you by providing a quick overview.
If you want to accurately portray Chinese characters, do your research. Read Chinese fiction. Watch Chinese films/TV. Initiate a conversation with the community. Portray us accurately. Quit turning us into caricatures.

"I want someone who looks and acts like Ichigo Kurosaki but is a woman to be the protagonist"
Highlighting this part bcs his is something I've said SO MANY TIMES when explaining my issues with shonen and the differences between so called "girl media" and "boy media". While I have always loved shojo and magical girl anime and disney princess films/the tinkerbell movies and all that it has always left me feeling like something was missing, bcs even the "tomboy" characters were still WAY more girly than I have ever been. Mulan and Studio Ghibli films are the only things I was ever exposed to as a kid that made me feel really SEEN and while I adore them that's not a huge pool of stuff to choose from.
What I really want, and have always wanted, was characters who were like the male characters I had more in common with but who were girls. Like Luffy, I want Luffy but a girl SO BAD. I want girls who are loud and blunt and joyful and confident and unapologetic and who love food and for the love of god who aren't drawn so sexy it's obnoxious. I want girls who are like Sanji and Zoro and Usopp, and beyond that like Ash Ketchum and Peter Parker and Bakugo and Flynn Rider and Indiana Jones and Finn the Human. I want them so bad it kills me inside sometimes.
(And god it kills me how Nami and Robin both weren't super sexualized pre-time skip only to come back and have their "maturity" shown by them having bigger boobs and dressing so feminine it's literally hard to look at. Like man I look back at early Nami with her normal clothes and boy-ish hair cut and straight up feel like crying bcs she's just a pin-up model now. It sucks so much. Straight up "look at how they massacred my girl" hours. I honestly felt really seen by her but most of that went down the drain when Oda decided she had to be hyper-feminine and outrageously sexy 24/7. Anyway One Piece tangent over sorry about that.)
And sometimes we do get the kinds of girls I want to see, more or less. Mako Mori, Ryuko Matoi, Emma from The Promised Neverland, half the cast of Steven Universe, Studio Ghibli characters, Mulan, Haruhi Fujioka, Pidge from Voltron, they're not perfect but they're so precious to me, and I hate how rare they are.
But more than anything I hate that when I say "I want complex female characters who aren't overly sexualized and get to act like people" my only options are to shut up and cope or to go watch shojo and other "girl" stuff that, as much as I love it, is filled with hyper feminine girls who just...idk just make me feel broken and "tomboys" who are only called that bcs they wear pants instead of a skirt.
I also agree with the people in the notes saying gendering media is dumb and bad and we should stop doing it, and also that these characters need to exist not just for girls, but for guys too, bcs they need to see women who aren't all One Specific Way so they don't grow up with weird ideas about what women are like.
And also it's not like I can't relate the male characters, I absolutely can and do, I just also want girls who are like me to love too.
It's just...it's so frustrating. It's so fucking frustrating.
finally figured out exactly what it is about the "stop complaining about the lack of women in shonen anime, if you want stories with strong and interesting female characters shojo is right there" argument that bothers me so much

Hi Jade!! I'm finally here to read and give my thoughts on chapters 8 through 12 of star lost!! I know I'm late, I know and I'm sorry, I just had to take some time off social media but I'm so glad to be back to finally catch up with my favorite
This would be way too long if I were to say everything about these 5 chapters all in one ask so I'll split it up so you won't get tired of me lol (you still will get tired of me, I talk too much)
STARTING CHAPTER 8 AAAAAAA
I actually had read a little bit of chapter 8 when it came out but wasn't able to make it to the end due to busy life 😬 so I decided to read it from the beginning because I have a shitty memory and didn't remember enough to know exactly where I left
First of all, the beginning was already so beautiful and poetic, I can't get enough of saying how good of an writer you are, seriously. Just y/n describing the landscape and daydreaming is so relatable, I can't concentrate on anything else other than the landscaping when I'm traveling, and her saying it looked like something out of a Studio Ghibli film 🥺 my ghibli enthusiastic heart was pleased ❤️
Also how can Y/N not realize how in love she is with Hyun yet? I'd be panicking about it already, guess I'm too self-conscious haha
My man is here talking about Baekhyun and being excited and she's freaking out internally thinking about how bad she wants to hold hands with him. So cute.
I can imagine it perfectly.
This whole scene of them talking in the train was cute, I love it!
Hana asking what y/n talked about in the train and asking "what did he say about me?", I'm sorry I'm trying so hard to like her but things like that make it difficult, she's so self-centered omg and her stepping up to fix Hyun's hair when y/n was about to just do that aaaaa annoying
And Hyunjin being jealous of Felix?? Yes. I asked for it and I'm loving it.
Y/N CALLING HIM HYUN YES LOVE TO SEE IT.
I'm taking notes as I go through the chapter so I won't forget to mention anything and I feel like I'm talking alone lol
DID HANA JUST SAY Y/N HATED HYUNJIN TO THE WHOLE FUCKING ROOM? WHAT KIND OF FRIEND- and it's not even true... wow... I'm speechless, I thought things couldn't get worse
"Being my wingwoman certainly came in handy" how the fuck does she make everything about her? and why?
I guess the reason I dislike Hana so much is because she sounds like an old friend of mine but idk how everyone else feels about her so I'm feeling a bit bad so I hope I start to like her soon? Idk?
But anyways
I smell a truth or dare game coming, I can almost feel it, I know it'll happen sooner or later, it wouldn't be a party without it, right?
Hyunjin checking y/n out got me flustered and giggling like a 15 year old 🤡
Why is their dynamic reminding me of something I had with somebody I'd rather forget omg I'm gonna cry
Them holding hands 🥺 I love them
Felix seemed disappointed Hyunjin checked if y/n was hurt? What is going on? What is this tension? Oh I don't like this
Spin the bottle... of course... I'm not READY
Ok 5 minutes later... I'm ready (I think)
So Felix likes y/n? Is that it?
Hyunjin chose to drink that thing instead of kissing y/n.. ouch that hurt
Felix and y/n just kissed and weirdly I'm not mad at that at all, Felix is such a great friend and it doesn't matter if he did it because he has feelings for her or to get her out of an awkward situation (or both) he still obviously did the right thing
Hyunjin baby what were you thinking? I'm really glad there's more chapters to read, I have so many questions!! Thank you Jade for being amazing and writing so much for us ❤️ I'm so so impressed with this story, you're doing a fantastic job with this
And i'm so sorry this is too long, this was literally my thoughts between literally jumping from my bed and walking around my room trying not to scream and dancing bc I was excited. Yes this happened a lot.
Hope you have fun reading this mess though! (English is not my first language just ignore my mistakes pls kajskja)
Thank you!!
hi love !! thank you for sending in a detailed review. i love these so much because they inspire me a lot 🥺 ofc i wont get tired dont worry!
you’re so right, yn definitely is slow to realising when she was falling in love with him in part 8, it can be obvious based on her thoughts and feelings but she’s oblivious 😇 im so glad you liked the train scene, i love her monologue because its so simple (?) but so focused just wanting to hold his hand ☹️
your thoughts on hana were very interesting to read 😭 and ofc there’s a spin the bottle game… it wouldn’t be a party without one. :D
felix probably did have multiple reasons for why he did that, but in the moment, it definitely was the right thing to do!
i enjoyed reading your thoughts. thank you so much 🥺🫶🏻

“I knew you had a smart mouth but that was unreal.”
jungkook x reader (or oc) genre: smut; fluff word count: 3.5K
a/n: Hi lovelies!!! This is literally just Jungkook and Holly hanging out in his room at the dorm and one thing leads to another and they get a little intimate for the first time. Includes hand and oral stuff... that’s all lol. Anyway, thanks for reading and I hope you all enjoy! :))
WIPING your palms on your leggings, you inspected your attire, wishing you would have ignored Jungkook’s suggested “casual and comfy” dress code and at least wore some jeans.
You took a deep breath as you raised your hand, knocking on the dorm door.
Jungkook has just arrived home from a trip to the United States where he was doing superstar shit like going to the Grammys and whatnot, no biggie. And as if you weren’t already nervous to see him, now you had to deal with an impromptu meeting with his best friend.
Jungkook initially told you that you two would have the dorm to yourselves, hence why you were standing in front of the dorm door right now instead of sitting on your couch with Jungkook in your very private apartment.
However, not even a full minute ago when you alerted him of your arrival, you received a reply that stated, “Taehyung is here, just a heads up.”
You considered yourself to be a pretty confident person, but things with Jungkook were still new and his members were the most important people in his life. And here you were, meeting one of them in your damn leggings and your black t-shirt that read in big white letters, “Be polite you fucker.”
Your internal panic over your clothing choice was suddenly halted when the door opened, an attractive man with light green hair standing there were a straight-faced expression.
His presence was almost intimidating until a wide smile spread across his face, stepping back and holding his arm out in a welcoming gesture. “Jungkookie,” Taehyung called out in a teasing tone, making you smile in amusement. You couldn’t help it.
As you entered the dorm, Taehyung read over your shirt for a moment, a low chuckle leaving his lips as Jungkook quickly rounded the corner from the hallway. His eyes were wide when they met yours and you both smiled in excitement of seeing each other.
“I told you I’d answer the door,” Jungkook cutely complained to Taehyung as he made his way toward you.
“I thought it was Peaches,” Taehyung responded innocently. He seemed pure.
Jungkook’s gaze left you for a moment as he neared, his eyebrows raised. “Is she coming over?” He asked Taehyung just as he appeared in front of you, a boy-like grin on his face as he grabbed your hand, easily intertwining his fingers with yours.
“Hey,” Jungkook greeted you quietly but happily, your smile growing.
“Hi,” you responded, squeezing his hand. God you wanted to grab his face and kiss him. Turns out two weeks is a long time away from someone when that someone is Jeon Jungkook.
“Why? Would you like the dorm to yourself?” Taehyung asked playfully, both you and Jungkook looking to him to see him raising his eyebrows suggestively.
“Ok that’s enough,” Jungkook stated, you smiling at how his skin flush in embarrassment. He started toward his bedroom, pulling you away from Taehyung and evading any further teasing from his friend.
“I’m Taehyung, by the way,” the man called out after you, you turning to wave at him. Before you could respond with your own name he told you, “I know who you are, Jungkook doesn’t stop talking about you,” he smiled impishly, Jungkook groaning as you giggled.
“Thanks for the info,” you told Taehyung, you both sharing a nod before Taehyung walked out of the room into what you assumed was the kitchen, doing cute little head movements as he hummed to himself.
Turning back toward Jungkook, you ran right into his back, hard, as he halted, his hand on the doorknob. Snapping his head to look at you, he gave you an apologetic smile. “You ok?” He asked with sparkling eyes, you nodding with a giggle. “I just wanted to make it clear that I don’t have any expectations,” he told you sweetly, you smiling fondly at him. “I’ll even sit on the floor if you want.”
“Jungkook,” you giggled. Leaning toward him, you whispered, “Relax and show me your room,” your lips grazing the shell of his ear. Jungkook’s tongue pushed to the inside of his cheek as he let out a light scoff.
Opening the door, he led you inside, allowing you to walk into the room before he shut the door. You hesitantly dropped each other’s hands as you scanned the room, taking in the surroundings and noting how tidy everything was. As you eyed the bed, noting it was small, just a twin-size, his eyes were on you. You smirked to yourself before looking around more.
“What movie do you want to watch?” He asked you, you slowly peeling your eyes from the desk full of camera equipment to look at him with a smirk.
“I have no preference,” you told him, Jungkook immediately groaning, you giggling at his annoyance. “Show me one of your favorites,” you told him.
He hummed in thought, looking up to the ceiling. “What if you’ve seen it before?”
“Then I’ll see it again,” you said, Jungkook smiling with a nod. Making his way to his desk, he grabbed his laptop before turning to look at you.
“You can sit on the bed, make yourself at home,” he told you, you nodding as he turned back to his computer, searching for a movie. Feigning confidence, your heart pounding in your chest, you sat down on the bed, crossing your legs underneath you as you watched Jungkook click away on his laptop.
He turned to look at you with a little grin, making you give him one back, both of you obviously nervous but trying to conceal it. He placed the laptop toward the bottom of the bed before taking the spot next to you. His thigh bumped against your knee as he settled himself against the headboard.
The movie started with a blue screen, an image of Totoro and Mini Totoro featured with the “Studio Ghibli” lettering, making you gasp.
“Yeah?” Jungkook asked, you smiling widely as you waited to see which film would show up. At the mountain-scape, your eyes widened, shooting to Jungkook in excitement.
“Princess Mononoke?”
Jungkook smiled widely, his eyes sparkling as they crinkled in the corners. “You like it?”
“I love it,” you told him, looking back to the film. “It might be my favorite Ghibli film, tied with Spirited Away.” His eyes widened as he nodded, looking quite excited at your reveal. “What? Did I just pass some sort of Jungkook test?”
“A Jungkook test?” He chuckled, now intrigued by what you meant.
“Yeah, like everyone has their interests and we tend to quiz people we like on them, just to gage how they react. Kind of like a compatibility test,” you explained shyly, your face heating up the more you spoke.
“Ah,” he said in realization, wearing a boy-like smile. “Maybe you did just pass a Jungkook test then.”
Looking at him, you suddenly felt much more comfortable, giving you the confidence to stretch your legs out in front of you and scoot back so you were shoulder to shoulder with the man. He pretended not to notice your proximity, watching the laptop screen as you grinned to yourself, smitten with his nerves.
Resting your head against his shoulder, he instinctively leaned into a bit as you turned your face to leave a small kiss to his upper arm. “I missed you, you know,” you admitted in a soft whisper, your breath on Jungkook’s neck.
Turning to look at you, his eyes took on an expression of both sincere gratitude as well as desire. Stretching his arm to rest behind your head, you nuzzled into his hold, Jungkook’s other arm wrapping around your waist.
“Fuck, I missed you too,” he breathed out, as if he was relieved to finally have you in his arms. Looking up at his face, your eyes lingered on his lips, observing the way they quirked in the corners, yours mimicking the motion. “Taehyung wasn’t lying,” he added, your eyes widening just the slightest bit in question. “I talk about you constantly.”
“Oh, I know,” you teased. “You’re obsessed with me.” Jungkook giggled at the comment, his hand sneaking under your t-shirt to draw patterns on your bare hips. “It’s cute, don’t worry.”
“Mhmm,” he hummed. “What about you?” You bit your lip at the question. “Are you obsessed with me?”
“Undetermined,” you said simply, Jungkook scoffing at the comment as his eyes traveled from your own down to your lips. Moving your hand to rest on the side of his face, you craned your neck toward him. Jungkook met you somewhere around halfway, attaching his lips to yours in a sweet kiss.
It was a quick and natural progression into a more heated one, your lips working with one another’s, mouths open as you let out small moans. Jungkook’s hand grabbed the flesh of your hip as he rolled you both over, his hip positioned on the mattress, his opposite leg slotted between yours.
The movie was long forgotten, the dialogue providing nothing but background noise as your hand slid to the back of Jungkook’s neck, gripping the hair at his nape. You tugged on the strands, Jungkook letting out a small groan at the feeling before smirking against your lips.
His own hand grazed your side as he moved it toward your chest, his fingertips toying with the bottom edge of your bra. It was just a flimsy lace garment, no real structure, allowing you to feel the drag of his finger along your breast with little obstruction from the clothing.
The moan you released against his lips encouraged him to take it further as he squeezed your breast in his palm, positioning a finger inside the top of the cup. You reached your hand underneath his shirt on his back, pushing the material up to hint that you wanted it off. He took your cue easily, sitting up on his knees to remove his shirt, you tugging your own off as he did so.
When his shirt was pulled off of his head, his eyes raked in the sight of your upper body adorned in nothing but your delicate black bra, the sight eliciting a groan from him.
You and Jungkook had found yourselves in a few heavy make out sessions before, but clothes were never removed. This was new and exciting territory and you were unsure of how far you’d both take it.
His hands grabbed your waist, pulling you up as you moved with him, gracefully changing positions so he was seated against the headboard and you were sat on top of his lap. Straddling him, you rocked your hips teasingly atop him, feeling his hardened length underneath you, making the man let out a breathy chuckle mixed with a moan. It was by far the sexiest sound you’d ever heard to date.
Jungkook’s hands roamed your sides and rib cage as he appreciated your body for the first time. “You’re so beautiful,” he told you, his eyes dark as they lifted from your chest to meet your gaze.
Without a word, you reached behind yourself, unlatching your bra, Jungkook’s eyes darting to the strap that slid down your bicep. You held the clothing to your body, giving him a teasing smirk as Jungkook pushed his tongue to the inside of his cheek.
“What do you want, Kookie?” You asked, Jungkook letting out a single breathy laugh as he ticked his head to the side.
Running his hands up your arms, he felt the material of the bra straps between his fingers. “May I?” He asked, tugging on them lightly.
Lowering your arms, you allowed the bra to slip off your frame, Jungkook pulling it from your arms as he tossed it to floor. He wasted no time in moving his hands to your chest, feeling the flesh appreciatively as he mumbled, “so pretty.”
You leaned down to kiss him passionately, Jungkook’s arms wrapping around your waist, tugging you closer to him. He moved his mouth from yours, trailing his lips down your neck and overtop your collarbones. You arched your back, pushing your chest closer to him, and he wasted no time in moving his mouth to your breasts. Kissing you, he then switched to sucking and nibbling, causing you to let out a moan as you bit your lip.
The sound had Jungkook quickly flipping you onto your back as he hovered over you. His mouth was on yours in an instant, his hand feeling your chest just a bit longer before moving it lower down your body.
Dragging his finger along the waist band of your leggings, he paused just above your navel, flattening his palm against your abdomen. He paid close attention to the way your stomach contracted in anticipation, and he pulled his face from yours, separating the kiss to inspect your features.
“Is this ok?” He asked with a small smile, you letting out a breathy laugh against his lips as he lowered them to yours again, leaving a sweet peck.
“Yes,” you breathed out, kissing him harder as his hand slipped inside your leggings.
His fingers made contact with your clit quickly, not having the self-control to tease you. You moaned lightly at the feeling, grabbing onto his shoulders as you continued kissing him, the action getting messier as he focused more on your pleasure.
When he slid a finger inside, you breathed out, “Oh, fuck,” against his lips, the man smirking as he pumped the digit. He rested his forehead against yours, your eyes locking on each other’s, both hooded and dark.
“You’re so beautiful,” he whispered, you whining at the compliment as he added another finger. Your hands slid down his chest and his toned abdomen.
“These are nice,” you complimented his abs, Jungkook giggling boyishly at the comment, the adorable sound a complete contrast to way he’s fingers worked your center as he used his thumb on your clit.
He kissed you again, you running your tongue over his bottom lip before biting it gently, Jungkook groaning at the feeling.
You used one hand to pull the waistband of his sweatpants away from his body, sliding your other hand inside, underneath his briefs. Wrapping your hand around him, Jungkook jolted above you, smiling shyly. You nearly cooed at the sight.
With his bangs hanging in his eyeline, his breaths becoming sharper as he began moving his hips, you swore you’d never seen anyone look sexier or more stunning.
“God, do you know how gorgeous you are?” You asked him breathlessly, Jungkook’s doe-eyes widening slightly as he stared at you, his gaze sparkling, a smile spreading on his face. He looked so sweet and shy but his fingers were sinful.
The pureness in his features vanished when he moved his mouth to your chest once again. Through a blissful huff, you moved the hand that wasn’t in his joggers to his wrist.
“I’m close, baby,” you breathed out, Jungkook looking up at you with excited shimmering eyes.
“Not yet,” he grinned mischievously just before he began kissing down your stomach. Reaching your leggings, he pulled his fingers from you to tear down your pants all the way to your ankles, pulling one foot out of them as he slotted himself between your legs.
As he pulled the garment off your leg, he knocked his fist against his laptop, almost sending it off the bed, but luckily his reflexes were fast enough, catching it at the last minute. Shooting you a shocked look, you laughed loudly, undeniably amused by the guy. He leaned over off the mattress to put the laptop on the floor before popping back up, his hair sideswept from his quick movement.
“Ok, where was I?” he asked, grabbing your ankles and tugging you closer to him, you squealing with a laugh as he slotted himself between your thighs.
He left a kiss to your inner thigh, looking up at you with those bambi eyes, but this time, they were dark and hungry. He kissed the other thigh, you letting out a short whine, Jungkook giggling against your leg.
“Is this what you want, baby?” He asked, kissing your center once before looking up at you. You bit your lip as you stared down at you. “Yeah?” He smiled before licking a strip, the sensation causing you to press your head back against the pillows as you bucked your hips up.
His tongue was magic, and though you were expecting some sort of intimacy with him that night, his enthusiasm for your pleasure took you by surprise. It didn’t take long for your high to approach with his face between your legs. Just like with all things Jungkook did, he was golden.
You placed your hands in his hair, lightly tugging the locks as your climax got closer and closer and when the pleasure peaked, you lifted your hips up, Jungkook having to use his arms to hold them down onto the bed as he worked you through your orgasm.
“Jesus fucking christ,” you groaned out once you caught your breath, Jungkook giggling as he crawled slightly up your body, crossing his arms over your abdomen and resting his chin on his wrist, watching you in utter fondness.
“You feel good, baby?” He asked, seeking praise, though he already knew he just fucking wrecked you.
“So good, oh my god, get up here,” you told him, the man staying stubbornly in place as he admired you and your nude form. “Guk, I wanna make you feel good too,” you pouted, Jungkook smiling adorably.
“I do feel good,” he told you, moving his face for a moment to leave a sweet kiss to your hip. “Don’t worry about me.”
“Jungkook,” you warned, the man simply laughing.
“No, tonight’s about you,” he told you. “You can thank me next time.” You raised your eyebrows at him and he smirked.
“Baby, you’ve been an amazing host tonight, but if you don’t let me get you off I’m gonna get really grumpy,” you told him, Jungkook giggling even more as he finally crawled up your body, hovering over top of you.
“Well,” he mulled it over, “I would hate for you to get grumpy.”
“Exactly,” you smirked. “So just sit back,” you reached for his hips, directing him to lie down with his back to the mattress, “and let me treat you.”
“You really don’t have to,” he told you genuinely as you got onto your knees, making your way down the bed.
“I want to,” you told him, grabbing his waistband and pulling his pants and underwear down his muscular thighs, dragging them down to remove them completely. Taking his length in your hand, you moved it up and down him a few times before lowering your face to him, licking up from the base to the tip, a choked moan leaving Jungkook’s lips.
You repeated the action a few times before swirling your tongue over the tip, then taking him into your mouth. As you put your mouth to work, your hand holding onto the base, Jungkook had one hand on your head, simply leaving it there as he gently massaged your roots, his other hand holding your unoccupied one. The gesture was sweet, and you couldn’t quite believe how gentle and courteous he was. Every squeeze of his hand, light scratch of his fingertips, and gorgeous moan that left his lips felt like a sincere expression of gratitude that you would be doing this for him.
Neither of you were sure how long you’d been down there, but suddenly he was telling you between groans, “I’m so close,” the sound of his voice making your center ache in desire.
You began pumping him with your hand, looking up at him, biting your lip as you fully took in his fucked-out state. His fringe was hanging in his eyes, his abdomen contracting as he took sharp breaths, his jaw slack as he looked down at you, his eyes shining in their hooded state.
He was by far the most exquisite human to exist.
When he came, he immediately looked bashful, noticing the evidence of his pleasure coating your hand and his abdomen. His cheeks were flushed and you found him to be both unbelievably hot while also being utterly adorable. How that was possible, you weren’t sure.
When his doe-eyes met yours, you grinned, Jungkook smiling back.
“Now,” you started, his eyebrows raising just the slightest bit. “The question is, do you feel good, baby?” You asked.
Jungkook let out a mixture of a scoff and a breathy laugh as you stood up on your knees, coming closer to him. Sitting next to him, you leaned down, kissing him sweetly on the lips, the meeting simple but full of appreciation and an intense fondness.
“Fuck,” he breathed against your lips as they curved into a smile. “I knew you had a smart mouth but that was unreal,” he teased, you cackling in his face, Jungkook giggling as he kissed your face repeatedly, placing them across your cheek and jaw.
“Get used to it,” you joked back, Jungkook smiling as he stared into your eyes before allowing his gaze to travel your face.
“I don’t think I ever will,” he admitted, nudging your nose with his, and kissing you once more.

~top nine movies tag game~
tagged by @neonun-au (ty mads!)
l-r, top to bottom: spirited away (miyazaki), eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (gondry), marie antoinette (sofia coppola), ratatouille (bird), pride and prejudice (wright), the muppet movie (frawley), scream (craven), midsommar (aster), the cranes are flying (kalatozov)
random thoughts about each film and two ~honorable mentions~ behind the cut because i wouldn’t be a failed film studies major if i didn’t talk about all the dumb things i love about movies
spirited away: my dad took me to see this as a surprise when it had a limited release and was playing at the arthouse theater an hour away (the same one i go to today, albeit its a ~5 min drive now) i know its cliche, but this movie changed my life. there are many little habits in my life that stem from watching the dvd on repeat as a child, teen, and now an adult. i love most ghibli works, but nothing will beat spirited away.
eternal sunshine: i have a love/hate relationship with manic pixie dream girls and the trope in general, but fuck do i love kate winslet as clem in this. probably my least watched film on this list (bc it hurts each time), but a forever fav.
marie antoinette: the soundtrack. the aesthetics. a visual and audio dream. parts of it are silly and absurd, but i can overlook those for all the beautiful shots of versailles. kiki dunst for life.
ratatouille: in a former life i was a big pixar nut with dreams of working there one day in the marketing dept (lol). i have deep rooted and controversial pixar takes, but i stanned ratatouille looooong before tiktok turned it into a musical and a meme.
pride and prejudice: do i need to explain my love for this one bc lord knows i reblog mads regency au!taeil fic enough for my love of p&p 05 to be known lmfao
the muppet movie: rainbow connection makes me cry every time lol. but also just a feel good movie.
scream: the first horror movie i could stomach in my early 20′s lol. will forever have a crush on sidney prescott.
midsommar: the second horror movie i could stomach (and only bc i read the script in advance so i knew what was coming lol) i even made my own may queen halloween costume that year and wore it to work at ikea lmfao. ~skål~
the cranes are flying: i had to watch this film twice in college (womens studies course on feminism in post WW2 russia and again for films of the USSR) and i can’t explain why i love this movie, but i do? the cinematography is excellent, but the plot slumps in the second half. soviet cinema has some real interesting stuff, but this was ultimately my favorite of anything i had to watch for class.
plus two honorable mentions not pictured: the handmaiden and little forest, both starring kim tae-ri. every other film on this list is a tried and true favorite of mine for at least a couple of years/repeat viewings, and these two films were just watched for the first time in 2022. little forest particularly has stuck with me, as someone with weird eating issues. the whole idea of a film where the protagonist is hungry both in the literal and figurative sense. i am too, as of late. its free to watch on viki and under 2 hours in length. highly recommend if you need ‘healing’ content (a word i haaate to use, but in this case certainly fits)

Yall know the gist anyone can join ;3
1. Pokémon - Literally anything about it, but I'm most passionate about BW/Unova, USuMo/Alola, and SV/Paldea, ESPECIALLY rivals <3
2. Indie games - I know and love a whole lot, like OneShot, Omori, UT and Deltarune, In Stars and Time, Ib, etc etc I love trying out new and old indie games all over the place and love talking abt em
3. Animated movies/shows - SU, Owl House, Ghibli films, Gravity Falls, etc just to name a few
4. Your Turn to Die - great game gets its own bullet instead of just being under indie games because of how much I'm into it and how much I know I would kill for Gin Ibushi
5. Found family trope - i could cite the FUCK out of this one w/o looking anything up both in movies, shows, and fanfic don't come at me bitch
List 5 topics you can talk about for an hour without preparing any material
Tagged by @ginevralinton thank you!!!
How I Met Your Mother - I love this show so much and I don’t believe it deserves to be forgotten about just because it had a shit ending. It was created almost perfectly
Watership Down - this book has the best worldbuilding I have ever experienced and in this essay I will tell you exactly why-
The Outsiders - there’s a reason why every school forces its students to read this book, it’s a masterpiece and the characters are all amazing
Little Shop Of Horrors (1986) - this is the best movie musical. This isn’t up for debate. It uses stylisation so well and its lack of restraint makes it work so much better. The musical itself is so brilliantly written and don’t even get me started on the story it’s self oh my goodness I love this movie
Futurama - now this is a great show, anyone who’s watched it will probably agree, but the way it creates the future is so brilliant. It’s the perfect world for this kind of show with this type of comedy to be set in. And all the small details that never get addressed just in the background make the year 3000 what it is
None of these are my current hyperfixation but all of these I hold with so much respect that it would be rude not to talk at length about them
No pressure tags: @spineless-lobster @spaghettiwithnachos13 @krispyy-lotol @justarandombrit @or-not-2b---i-dont-know @ablatheringblatherskite @literary-lesbian @ticcywhaleshark @atleasttheyvegotstars @nocturnal-cryptid and anyone else who would like to join :)
(Also you don’t have to give explanations, I just did because I wanted to)
