Tell me rfn the kind of video games climbing class stays up until 3am grinding and getting way too invested in

OOH. this is an interesting question bc i think they have fairly different taste in video games.

chris is into games with deep mechanics, so he gravitates to rpgs, including turn-based. likes strategy games, too. as a example of his taste, chris loves pokemon, but he plays it in a way i do not personally understand, in that he's crafting the most optimal team and also not naming his pokemon. all that said, he isn't opposed to turning his brain off with fps games when he just wants to relax. in all games, he is a chronic cutscene skipper (a trait that makes josh grind his teeth). if he picks up an in-game document that he deems too long, he's like "i ain't reading all that. i'm happy for u tho. or sorry that happened."

josh plays fewer games and has narrower taste. obviously, he's into horror in all forms, from AAA down to the smallest of indie titles (tho he prefers indie). i think he wouldn't have pegged himself as a fighting game guy, but he checked out mortal kombat bc of the fatalities and got really into it. he'd be into hideo kojima games. if i can include post-2014 games bc we're just having fun here, this would include death stranding (which chris would not understand the appeal of). josh would also love the weird, wide world of elden ring, in particular how it's stripped of things like quest logs. he would really enjoy making his own physical notes (which, again, would feel like homework to chris).

now, here's what they learned they can't play together.

moody, atmospheric horror that relies more on suspense or dread than fear. josh would love silent hill games (the good ones lmao), but chris would find them unenjoyable to play and narratively confusing & boring. warning for silent hill 2 spoilers here, but i made a joke in a fic about chris getting, like, too deep into sh2 before going, "oh. did this guy do something to his wife?" and i stand by that. i think he's just like whatttt is going on and when will this be over.

competitive games that rely too heavily on luck. obvious examples are mario party & mario kart games. josh gets too fucking moody when he feels he loses unfairly, and it brings the (mario) party down. and every time he suggests them, he's like "i seriously won't care, like it's not a big deal." but it is a big deal. in his heart. if he loses fair and square, he's fine, but he hates feeling robbed by bad luck.

...and here's what they do play together.

freaky asf horror games. like, the kinds of games with moments that are gonna have "streamers react to..." compilations on youtube. ideally, chris is playing and josh is watching, bc josh loves to watch chris react to games like this, especially if he himself has played them before. nothing more enjoyable than sitting next to chris, knowing what horrors await him but not saying anything. josh has a ps4 with p.t. (which he will never, ever delete) and he delighted in making chris play that. he also made chris play doki doki literature club, under the guise of "giving him a well-deserved break from horror." good one, josh.

chris's rpgs are long as hell and he gets very into them, so when he's particularly sucked in but josh still wants to hang, josh is like ok just bring your console over and play here, idc. now, josh knows chris is a cutscene skipper, so josh spends the entire time peppering chris with questions. what's happened so far? what's going on right now? who's this guy - what's his deal? at some point, they start making shit up, spitballing what they think is going on based on context clues, but also throwing in their own wild ideas just to make each other laugh. (after chris finishes the game, they read a plot summary to see how close they were.)

i think chris is a kingdom hearts fan, but again, not the way i'm a kingdom hearts fan. he thinks they're fun as fuck to play, but he has NO clue what's going on. in fact, playing kingdom hearts as a kid is probably what triggered his aversion to cutscenes. he was like that shit goes on FOREVER, and for WHAT? i'm enamored with the idea of chris foisting kingdom hearts on josh - like, "try it, bro, it's really fun. but just skip the cutscenes they're super long and confusing." and josh is like "now, now, christopher. a lot of work went into these cutscenes. we can't just skip them. that would be disrespectful." so josh lets them roll - initially as a bit, but then they both get invested, and next thing you know they're barreling through all 983094 games together.

resident evil 4. periodt. it has stuff that appeals to them both: horror/gore for josh, more action-oriented gameplay for chris, plus short cutscenes they can both find enjoyment in, because they're either freaky or funny or both. they would lament (as did i) that re5 and re6 have co-op but are so much worse, but they'd still play them once. and they'd both love the modern remakes + new re games. josh's favorite of those would be re7, and chris's would be re2 remake.

For theories and hopes: I think Ethan will still be the main villain even tho it says it's about the witch, I still think Ethan will be the one chasing us around every where, I just think we will learn about Wanda/see her and what she does. I've also been thinking about the symbols in the game and why they might be in all those locations, maybe Ethan or the witch can use them to watch Tom? I think this since Ethan always knows where Tom is so yeah (even tho this does seem pretty unlikely 🥲). I also think there might be a chance that we will play through the perspective of another child, like Sam, since horror tale's mechanics are similar to ice scream and it is based off of ice scream (in ice scream you play as other kids in the later chapters) but I don't think it will happen in HT 3 since it talks about Tom in the description. For hopes/ideas? I'm hoping we will learn more about Billy and Emma and how they got kidnapped/ if they also ran away from their home. I also want to find out why Sam ran away from her home, for now I'm just thinking it's because of family problems/ abusive family? Since that's the most common reason for someone to run away from home. I think it would be cool if we see more about the dolls/kids? (Idk what to call them since they are dolls but still technically the kids I think) or something like we get chased by the dolls so they are used as like a trap by Ethan to catch Tom. Another theorie I have is that maybe after the kids are dolls for a while they become less alive, because in HT 1 we see that Harry looks at Tom when he is still a doll, but the other kids don't do anything like look at him which might mean they've been a doll for so long that they can't control anything anymore. I do think the kids are still alive, just trapped in the doll in a way, since Sam talks about saving them (which I'm guessing is Tom's objective in HT 3 and maybe the future chapters). Since a ritual is used to turn the kids into dolls I think they might be trapped by soul or something, and Tom would need to like reverse it or something? (I'm just waffling at this point 😭) I hope we learn more about Ethan's backstory, the fire that killed his father and if he was involved with the fire (since he has burn marks) AND why he was in the asylum. As for Wanda I don't really have any theories about hey, I'm just excited to learn about her character lol I just hope she isn't creepy like Ethan 💀. For Ethan's new mask I'm thinking maybe it'll represent Ethan getting more powerful/becoming more dangerous since the mask is like a dead rabbit? I thought it was like frozen because of the cracks and the blue and yeah, but it being electric actually sounds rlly cool. I have many ideas or theories about the mask, but I am really interested so yeah 👍.

Where are the Mixed-Race Characters? Hiding out in the continuity errors, of course!

Originally posted on r/teslore. I've been inspired by /u/jotting_prosaist 's magnificent apocrypha: A Commentary on the Misinterpretation of “Notes on Racial Phylogeny” and the discussion in the comments. People really are interested in seeing more mixed-race characters in TES, and while we have an increasing number of such characters, and more on their way (if some of those Skyrim babies are ever born), there aren't that many.

But what if they've been under our noses the whole time? What if one of them is Belethor, our favourite Breton shopkeeper the Prima guide describes as Bosmer?

Now, before I go into the details here, I fully acknowledge that these racial discrepancies certainly began as continuity errors. But why not embrace them to give the NPCs deeper backstories and flesh out the world?

'Belethor' is a much more Bosmer-sounding name than Breton. That suggests the Prima Guide is based off an earlier draft in which he was a Bosmer, but that in game development, he was changed to a Breton. However, for in-world purposes, Belethor could have had a Bosmer or part-Bosmer parent who bequeathed him a Bosmer name to honour that part of his ancestry.

Aringoth, the owner of the bee hives in Riften, appears to be an Altmer, but is called a Bosmer by Vex and Brynjolf. Why can't he both?

Enthir appears to be a Bosmer but identifies himself in conversation as Altmer.

So they were like your kind? "Like the Altmer? Yes, I would say their culture quite possibly rivaled our own."

Hlidara Mothril in Oblivion is Countess Alessia Caro's Altmer advisor who is working with her to Imperialize Leyawiin. And yet, the court mage Tsavi calls Hlidara "Nibenean". What if, despite Hildara's Altmer appearance, she is more attuned to her Nibenese ancestry?

I'm sure there are more folk who are referred to as the "wrong" race. And interpreting the continuity errors as lore would make the world and the characters really interesting!

Further examples: Xatriks on Hlidara: Not to mention her Dunmeri name. Also Angaredhel. 

One dialogue mistakenly refers to him as "Angaredhel the Altmer" and his name is more typical of an Altmer name than a Dunmer name. However, two other dialogues correctly describe him as "Angaredhel the Dunmer".

And Mankar Camoran of course. Half of these inconsistencies may be actual mistakes though. Me:  Ooh, nice additions. I'm sure they start out as mistakes, but they can become lore. :) Someone asked why we needed more mixed-race characters.

Me: Because, given the world, there should be a lot more of them. We see mixed-race couples continuously in-game, but the people we meet rarely are presented as anything but pure [insert race here]. It's an impoverished version of a richer possible world. We can assume it's both game mechanics, and a limit on how much dialogue can be written for each character (most characters aren't going to tell you about their relations), but this lack of characters that don't fit inside homogenous racial slots has actually convinced a lot of TES players that race is, in fact, an immutable biological state in Elder Scrolls lore, even when the one text we have on the subject doesn't claim so. TES would definitely benefit from making this subject clearer. If you look at the game of Skyrim, I can think of two mixed-race characters: the Breton/Redguard Lylvieve siblings. That's ridiculously low. And we know absolutely nothing about their experience, so they're not interesting either in that respect. Until the games give us better examples (and ESO is doing a little bit of that), we're on our own imagining anyone interesting at all.

I researched a bit and added a few of my own tips for beginners, hope this helps! 🩷✨

Some tips I can share for beginners would be:

Send and accept friend requests: When going into battle you're able to use their cards. Some of those friends could have some really useful cards to use. I've had many instances where a card from a friend that I needed really helped.

Do not skip events: Many events can give you valuable resources and materials. These events may not give SSR Rank cards but they will give you an R Rank or SR Rank card if you participate in them. They give gems, thaumark and keys and other useful materials.

Save your gems: The game is playable in f2p and gives a normal amount of gems to do so, but do save your gems and don't waste them unless you really want or need a card. When it comes to Sam's shop there is a set that comes with 10 magical keys and is only 250 gems though it's only available once a month. By buying this set, it does save you a few gems. A normal 10 pull is 309 gems.

Team: When it comes to forming your team I recommend teaming them up based on the cards Duo Magic and Buddy Level. Train the cards that you would like, level them up and team them up based on Duo Magic/Buddy Level. The Characters give each other important boosts during battles based on their buddy level and could be a great help.

Lesson's: History lessons grant EXP that contributes to the cards level. The additional rewards are "Blooming Honey". Flight lessons grant EXP that contributes to the cards vignette level. The additional rewards are "Snacks". Alchemy lessons help increase the Buddy Level of cards, additional rewards are "Alchemy Tokens" and spell upgrades.

Card Ranks: Three different types of Rank cards. A R Rank card has a max level of 40 that can be extended to 60. A SR Rank card has a max level of 60 that can be extended to 80. A SSR Rank card has a max level of 80 that can be extended to 100.

When TWST allows you to pick a card to start the game, these are some beginner cards lots of people and I recommend (their info in there as well):

Riddle Dorm uniform – Highest ATK.

Leona Dorm Uniform – Highest HP.

Trey Dorm Uniform – High DEF and great healing.

Cater Ceremonial – His power boost is very good during the early game.

Rook Labwear – Decent HP and attack which helps beginners.

Malleus Ceremonial Robes – Gives power boost.

Card's: I recommend leveling and upgrading your cards one at a time. You want to upgrade all the cards or at least a few cards in each element. By doing this you can have a pretty big upper hand when doing battles because elementary bonuses play a pretty role in the game.

Tests: You should do these and try them as much as you do with the lessons. Unfortunately for me, I didn't know how much of a help doing these would have and didn't do them. Doing tests can give you interesting and good things when you get good results. They also help train your cards faster.

I don’t particularly plan ahead but I really love when threads reflect past character development whether in a thread with the same muse or different. TOA extended universe… I’d like to do that more I think but first I have to actually make a support page huh? Since Rhea’s back she’s made more bonds though and that makes me happy.

Favorite TOA-related memory: Definitely Unlocked 2021! It was my first event after really starting to warm to the TOA community and i was an awe of the scope of the events. antoinette is a mechanical engineer who grew up in north city. she's 29, her and miles have two kids, and she's just as much of a briggsman as he is. she has a sister in north city who watches their kids a lot, but they do also visit and spend time with them there and it's not unheard of for the whole miles family to be at briggs together, on occasion. it’s not like a “oh they’re too busy for their kids” thing it’s more like a communal family raising thing. cuz antoinette and miles take care of her sister’s kids too.

oh. lol just saw the second question! yes she has two older sisters, she's the baby of her family. she was always the tinkerer even as a kid, playing with any spare scarp of technology she could get her hands on, much to the annoyance of her parents and her sisters, but it paid off, and she's one of the highest ranking engineers at briggs now. when an engineer is talking about miles, they mean antoinette.

her favorite color is orange, but red is a very close second.

i think we talked about her and miles meeting because they were assigned to the same chore rotation, and then continuing to run into each other randomly for a while after that, and i also think i said something to you about her asking him out first. which i maintain. i think she fell in love with him like… like that old cliche of like, slowly and then all at once? i think she actually may have had her kids younger and miles is their step-dad, and so i think like. i think she was really cautious about getting too attached to him at first, even though she approached him and liked him, i think there was a part of her waiting to see how he was with her kids. and he was. fantastic. and then it was just. immediately. i think they got married after dating/being partnered for three years, so they've been married for two when ed meets miles.

(additionally. the kids probably saw buccaneer as a very fun and cool uncle and he probably spoiled them and played insane dangerous SEEMING games with them but always made sure to keep them safe)

and okay. bonus round. olivier. obviously i made the joke in recognition that both antoinette and her husband were in love with olivier and they told each other that when they told each other they loved each other. and i don't think. i don't know how much olivier KNOWS that them and everyone else is a little in love with her, but she might have like. some idea lol. i think she thinks that antoinette is solid, reliable, and witty, and i think she appreciates that she has someone she trusts running her engineer dept. i am TRYING not to be boring but olivier is so work based it's hard not to talk about work!

i think it means a lot to her that miles has someone. and that that person is good for him and good to him. i think they don't get to talk all too often but i think she likes her pretty well. not that she would ever SAY that. god forbid olivier mira armstrong show approval. but you know. she does.

You know what? This isn't a terrible change. With the addition of Thorn, Lesion did feel a little meh. So it's nice to have another mechanical trap operator. These changes does kinda bring him back to more OG style but at the same time: lol echo treatment invisible get fucked.

I do love the super shorty as a secondary.

I mean this will make my friend really happy, she's always complaining about the inconsistencies of shotguns. Idk how I feel about the ads improvement. I feel like this is something I'm gonna have to experience in game to decide as it could make or break shotguns. (Ubisoft if you ever even THINK about touching the BOSG I will hurt you.)

Now for the shit I hate. WHAT THE FUCK IS THIIISSS CUNNNTTT??? Like bro if I'm the only one setting up then there's no way imma have time to do it??? Also revealing to the attackers??? Talk about a fucking nerf to mute and Solis. Like your better off leaving your drone at spawn now and picking it up to drone later on when u get close. Unlike your rushing there's no point. Being on to it and killing all drones in prep phase then having the object hidden used to be a strategic reward. I've had matches win because attacks didn't actually know where the objective was and vice versa.

Like I get this is a solution to a problem that they have created but FUCK OFF literally quick match was completely FINE. It's quick because it didn't go a maximum of NINE ROUNDS. This is such some BS babying level stuff. Like sure spawn peaks and run outs can be annoying but that's part of the game. You can counter them, like YES you should be checking every window! Your in fucking training for combat! If your invun for the beginning of the round what if your Kali and just long range snipe??? Like I can see this going wrong for plane.

I mean... Now that comp rank doesn't mean anything I can understand the changes with unranked cause no one plays it but also??? I want to play like quickplay the way it is now, if 'standard' is still the same length as comp then idk man that's gonna suck.

If standards legit just current quickplay then they really should have just been like 'unranks removed we now have baby mode'

Idk what maps have been removed but I swear to god if they touch my boys Tower and Plane I'm gonna cry. I know it's a controversial take by I love both of those two map as is. (And plane got a rework not too long ago) They can take stadium tho. Take it out back and put it down because it's the worst map in the game.

I feel like Ubisoft is reworking the game so much like at this point.... Just make another game lmao. I guess then there's always the fear of the ow2 syndom so I understand but then r6s is a really old game. This sucks cause like I love the game I do (I know it's a bad game) but a the same time this doesn't make me excited to play the game. It feel like it's audience is being reduced, like I love hehe funny skin pizza mozzie gaming but those premap set up cookie cutter shit? I fucking hate that. I bet the roations aren't gonna be where I like it either.

Ive been playing a little bit of comp recently but I've always been a quick play player. I could forgive the recent operators being so...eh.

Like don't get me strong Solis is really strong pick but I hated the addition of her and Brava SO much. Solis isn't to bad but Brava? I hate her addition. On both attack and defence, like why would you ever pick twitch anymore? Twitch doesn't even have any like really good guns either. She has the marksman I guess but all her guns are meh.

Fenrir I feel like is just a glorified proximity mine 80% of the time. He's just kinda eh and meh. His ability doesn't activate fast enough to normally be a big threat and then the fact you don't get his codes back is lame.

Grim is a niche, he's not bad. I just feel like he isn't that fun to play? I think him getting stickies is cool but I still feel like people won't play him.

Sens is powerful AF in a 5 stack with good coms. But without coms? I feel like their good for like a couple of strats but they aren't very versatile and are a very situation operator.

Like these operators aren't bad but I feel like they don't really add to the game in a positive way. Perhaps it's just a personal preference but idk I don't find any of them fun. I'm not running to try play them. I don't feel like the game has gotten better with their additions. Just worse.

I hate being that guy but I do miss the way the game used to be when I started, I miss the UI. I miss being able to pick your fire mode, I miss old house I miss old consulate. I miss not having to worry if my own claymores gonna kill me, I miss the sense of accomplishment in the game.

Like I started playing just before Oyrx was released (hate Oryx players btw because they always break above hatch and then attackers get the advantage when they take it) and the games lost so much charm? Im glad they are tying to get out that entire 'stadium eSports incorporated into lore' phase but I feel like Ubisoft has an idea for the games future and it's just not a place I like.

I mean sure the games dying and I think addressing the RNG with shotguns is a nice step (that being said I like the risk vs rewards with them tbh) but at the same time if they addressed the true biggest problem things could change

IN DOUBLE LIFE we got the divorcee quartet as last standings so me have the dramatics of Scott and Cleo, not bound to each other by game mechanics but because they chose to be with each other. and then we have Scott’s game partner Pearl and Cleo’s game partner marytn. so it’s Chosen Love Or Do We Play The Game? anyway so they play the game. Pearl goes sicko mode and. okay well one she was the one who took out the third last team, and then she took out cleo and martyn all on her own. so Scott and Pearl are the only two left and Scott kills himself to fulfill the There Can Only Be One ruling of the previous seasons. LIMITED LIFE THOUGH? so it’s Scott martyn and impulse and they’re like Okay What If We No Armor No Weapons Just Beat The Shit Out Of Each Other and so impulse and scott take their shit off bc theyRE NOT BORING. and then martyn just cuts their heads off. Some things that helped me come to this conclusion:

Camilo is very extroverted. He does have moments were, if you look carefully, he kinda shrinks in on himself and resumes the 'dinosaur posetm', also known as Bruno's constant state- but despite this, he thrives on attention, I mean look at this pose:

You can practically hear him saying 'look at meee'. Next, I believe they'd make decisions based on the reality of the situation and speak very literally about things, example:

"Err, not if we don't have a house."

He does not entertain the option of that changing right away. He's focused in the now and is trying to get that dealt with first.

He's very confident but he also hides behind other people's faces, literally. I do imagine him to be quite popular in his own right but still, he's very closed off with his emotions and only thinks about catering others, that's literally his gift. So he neglects himself emotionally and pretends he's okay behind his happy demeanour. He's a devil and is the epitome of a little shit. But it's tough love sometimes, they do truly care💞

I agree with the headcanon that shapeshifting into all these ppl, wears him out and that's why he's so hungry, however, I also think it's more than that: he just has a naturally fast metabolism and looooves food🥰, cos I like to think he still acts like this when the magic is gone. xiao finds himself laying in his bed, staring at the same spot he always did whenever he woke up at ungodly hours. he had the urge to get up a turn on his pc, open up the very game that brought him comfort, and just flip through your voicelines.

but ever since he found this one channel that has borderline perfect impressions of you, it's been his go-to coping mechanism for late night problems.

your voice echoes throughout his empty room along with the sound effects of blankets and sheets rustling. you let out a quiet huff as you presumably sit on the bed beside the listener.

"and what do you want me to do about it? i won't magically make your nightmares disappear."

"just... be there," xiao sobs quietly, covering his eyes with his arm. it isn't uncommon for him to reply, even though most of the time he doesn't follow the expected script of the creator.

"you... want me to stay here? that's all?"

but the times when he does manage to follow it, he has a brief feeling of euphoria.

"...very well." and as he starts to allow himself to drift off, the final words he hears from the video are sure to override any nightmare threatening to cloud his mind.

"rest well. i'll be here in the morning."

HEE HEE......thank you : ) to be honest i didnt expect anybody to really give a shit. ive just been excited to work on something that is all mine and i can do whatever i want with it

jamie is uhh. considerably less unhinged than gordon is. (he has to play by Real Life rules instead of video game ones so, like, naturally.) hes also marginally less neurotic and deals with stress by exercising a lot instead of having screaming meltdowns. but when it comes to a guy who hates him That Much and is constantly pushing and pushing.....well. theres opportunities for a good old fashioned screaming fist fight

hes still kind of a condescending asshole who thinks hes the smartest guy in the room, even though hes really clueless about his current environment. very bossy, just like the OG model. but he can focus on things much better than our adhd king and is a hard working guy whos pretty cagey about his past.....that last bit gets daniel all suspicious of him, under the assumption that hes laying low from something shady. criminal, even

(not that daniel cares on, like, a moral level, but he doesnt like the idea of this puffed up motherfucker strutting around town like he knows whats best for it when hes clearly got a dark past himself.)

which brings us to the last thing thats a major difference: hes trans and deeply committed to the stealth lifestyle. thats why hes so cagey. you could call it a bit of a learning moment for the both of them when their sinister assumptions about the other dont quite work out the way they think

the biggest difference btwn benrey and daniel is that daniel isnt spacey or obsessed with video games. he doesnt play fuckin video games and hes a lot more observant than people (jamie) give him credit for. i really really like how sulky and bitter benrey can be so i cranked that up a lot......and also his weird sadistic tendencies/turns of phrase

he still does struggle a lot with interacting with people in a way thats genuine and heartfelt. the closest he gets to "kindness" is by doing things and sharing things and keeping his mouth shut. i also am mildly obsessed with benreys fondness for photography so thats a pivotal character aspect here - daniels very keen on photography and observation (voyeurism, if u will) and used to take photographs for the county paper. and now......he doesnt. for Reasons

hes a real son of a bitch but he cares for his family more than anything. which is why hes stuck providing for three retirees on a mechanics wage. (hence the plot of weed in the woods.) and most of all, he is genuinely just some guy. no eldritch shenanigans or whatever. i have other OCs for that .

much like benrey he is also unabashedly homosexual. his town is so tight-knit and reliant on one another to get by that people largely dont give a shit, with a few exceptions. everybody knows hes fucking weird but very few people are keen to raise a fuss about it to him because A) hes the handiest guy in town, B) he sells pretty good weed, and C) rumors abound that he really might have killed a guy once. (but he wouldnt be the only guy in town to have done so. you know, if the rumors are true. "hunting accidents" happen sometimes out in the sticks.)

would you be able to list some ttrpg systems that are best for specific things? or just some that you would recommend with a short little reason or something?

I'm like abt to go backnto bed lol so i dont wanna think out a huge list but here's 3 off the top of my head and ill add more later possibly

1. FATE is my go to reccomendation. It is essentially the open source software of ttrpgs. As long as you have a setting you can pretty much just drop fate into it and have a fun time. And it blends combat well with the rest of the game as opposed to having an entirely separate set of combat mechanics. And it allows for character creation that is flexible to any kind kf concelpt willbwork.

It has a few issues but its so extremely moddable that you can fix those if they bother you. I was even writing my own magic system for it back when i still had ppl to play ttrpgs with lol. But even without modding it's a ton of fun. Oh and also other ppl have written mods for kt you can use.

2. Blades in the Dark is a personal favorite of mine. I often find PBTA-based systems to be lazy but that is not the case here (if u dont know powered by the apocalypse dw about it).

The premise is you play a group of some variety of outlaw (smuggler? Assassin, cultist, etc.) uh idk what id call the setting. Like bloodborne but with ghosts instead of blood. Close to Sunless Sea, if you know that. And the gameplay loop consists of 'planning' heists or other jobs (but ill use heists going forward) going on them, and then working to expand your groups influence and goals in downtime.

I say plan in quotes because you do not in fact plan heists, mostly, though you can prepare for them. Instead bitd has a system i love where you can spend a resource to have 'flashbacks' to your preparation to the heist. So, instead of saying ohh ill bring this and that and this and that and do this beforehand you can be like. Okay flashback we agreed beforehand to have a signal for when ppl were coming. Or flashback i brought my wire cjtters along. It allows flr a heist to work without having to actually successfully plan a heist ahead of time wjich is uh. Basically not really possible to do in ttrpgs and still have an interesting heist. And if the system sound unbalanced trust me there are factors to mitigate abusing it.

Beyond that i do also just find the skill and rolling system fantastic. If you have zero idea what to do but fate sounds dauting to run i think this is rhe way to go

3. Finally this isnt the same vein as dnd but as someone who loves storytelling rpgs i strongly reccomend The Quiet Year. It's a small rpg (one 4 hour session). You take turns essentially simulating and progresding the story of along a small civilization which has been hit hard and is on the brink of collapse. It is very open as well to the point where you end up having created an entirely new setting when you're done with it. There's also games like Microscope but i havent ever actually gotten to play those with ppl lol.

Beyond those if you want a good place to find things Drivethrurpg.com is my go to source. Spend some time clicking around on there and u might find something. Bcuz tbh the real lesson i want to impart when i say dont play dnd isnt 'play this instead'. It's 'there are so many ttrpgs out there, don't just play only one' it's kind of like only playing one video game or board game. Sure you like it but theres so many to try.

More gameswap content anyways ive been thinkin abt what type of scrybe each The Hex character would be so I am. Putting them down here. Plus any other relevant info on these fuckers. Some get canon scrybe types some dont, for various reasons

Weasel Kid: Scrybe of Beasts

Taking Leshy's role as the Scrybe of Beasts (headpats the boy), SWK is the youngest of the six scrybes. Instead of using a camera though, SWK kinda gets Grimora's whole 'write up about the card' gimmick, except it's all digital. Yes that's a ref to the steam reviews. Anyways, yeah, he writes up about the card. The 'rating' transfers into cost (which is still blood, though if he was game master, he'd probably introduce a mechanic that has to do with coins), and any stats + sigils would be based on what he writes up. His cards are VERY chaotic and random in nature, bc he's all over the place. Mr. Shrewd, Mr. Squarrel, and Catarina are his subordinates, though they're more like his parental figures that anything. His map is just grasslands, the fields covered in hills, flowers, the little cottage SWK, Mr. Squarrel, and Mr. Shrewd live in, and the small hut Catarina does her studies in. She's currently researching the OLD_DATA. Mr. Shrewd can be used as practice, providing helpful tips to the player in order to help them. Though once you defeat SWK, Mr. Shrewd can't be found, and Mr. Squarrel is no longer available to chat with.

Chef Bryce: Scrybe of Strength

Having had his scrybe type be changed during the beta stages of development due to his last one being too boring/difficult to flesh out, Bryce got swapped to the Scrybe of Strength, his map and subordinates changing (he previously only had 1 subordinate given to him before things were changed. He misses her). His gimmick is that for each card you beat, you gain a point, and the higher amount of points you got, the better cards you can use (like how in cax it's first one to 3 points/matches won wins). His subordinates consist of Bhakto, Alley Gator, and Steambot Willy, and the player's able to meet some other, minor characters around his island that serve no purpose but to help the player practice their gameplay/strategies/whatever. The nicest of the six scrybes. His map is various different fighting arenas all sloppily attached together. Rebecha shows up as one of the minor npcs, though only chats, never fights. Someone else lurks behind a door Bryce keeps locked up. Not out of malice for this person, but for care for everyone else in the game and in the real world. All his cards start off blank, and get upgraded as they're used.

Chandrelle Stormblaze: Scrybe of Time

Chandrelle stays at the top of a tower, similar to Magnificus in the canon Inscryption. there's five layers to the tower. The base floor, the Dragon's floor, the Sphinx's floor, the Kraken's floor, and the basement. The Dragon represents the past, using cards based on events in historical events and mythology. You know, like dragons and stuff. The Sphinx represents the present, though doesn't,,,actually fight you. She just throws riddles at you (like in Secrets of Legendaria) until either you lose, or she runs out of questions. The Kraken represents the future, though like The Sphinx, isn't actually interested in card games, her battle instead being more like a dating sim (if u know, u know). Chandrelle hates all of her current subordinates. She used to have different ones, but now one's dead, one's a scrybe, and one's locked up in the basement because he tried to kill everyone on the islands and cause absolute mayhem. And also she just doesn't like him. Her gimmick is that she uses magic to create the cards, often making cards up on the spot, overall kinda just. Bugging out the game.

Rust McClain: Scrybe of ???

No one,,,actually knows what he's supposed to do. Not even himself. His map is like a wasteland, completely empty and glitchy. He uses cards from the other scrybes, though sometimes cards randomly glitch in. Custom made cards by the dev team, cards that didn't make it into the 'final' game. Some cards are self inserts, some are just the definition of 'random bullshit, go!', while others are actual proper cards. He often rambles on about past, unused subordinates that got taken out, like The Vurm, Dustbowl Danny, Fangs, Tall Jane, Helga the Bandit, and someone he mentions a lot more fondly, Rocky. Most of the others assume that the dev team just forgot to delete all his assets and code, so he's still around.

Lazarus Bleeze: Scrybe of Space

A former subordinate of Chandrelle, Lazarus' character was liked by the dev team, and reused as a scrybe. The cards you can use are based on the scale. Good cards if you're winning, bad cards if you're losing, and average cards if it's tied. Lazarus personally thinks the system is incredibly unfair though, so he tends to throw in a bunch of things that benefit the player so they can have a winning chance. The player has had to politely decline shooting Lazarus several times /hj. Lazarus' map looks like a random planet, the sky shifting around his island to look like you were looking into outer space. He resides within a spaceship. His subordinates consist of Junior and Jay, his third subordinate having not been added. But that's fine, because you gotta battle a bunch of aliens before you can even get to Lazarus, Jay, and Junior. All battles being a card game, of course. He hates his current job, and just wants to go back to being a subordinate for Chandrelle. He creates his cards via paying for them using foils, paying for certain things like stats, sigils, etc. He gets to name them and create the image himself for free, though. So, he's had to fight a bunch of the aliens just to get the foils he needs. He lets the player make their own cards, too!

FPP/El: Scrybe of Characters

The sixth scrybe. El makes cards based on the characters in Inscryption, all existing ones, whether you've met them or not. So, they're basically an easy way to know if you missed a secret character or not. El's island is just,,,a white void. Locations change between the appearances of the other islands, though never look the exact same, always having this dreamy sort of effect. Card price is based on the character's role, and similar to Lazarus, you use your foils. Scrybe-based cards can be used for 10 foils, subordinates for 5, and extras for 1. Extras would be the aliens, Bryce's extra fighters, and those locked away by Bryce and Chandrelle. Scrybe-based cards tend to be the strongest, though the cards based on those locked away (which, granted, are incredibly rare to get) are better. As well, upon beating El, El makes a card based on how you did against him and gives it to you. They have no subordinates, and instead have a few puzzles you gotta get through before fighting him.

Aaaand that's all for now! Im gonna draw them at some point, as well as the extras + subordinates. We'll see what happens tho :-)

The thing is, Five doesn’t really know how to have fun.

And, well, considering his life consisting of growing up as a childhood soldier in the hands of a billionaire that held the undeserving title of ‘father’ before progressing to the depths of isolation after sending himself to the end of the world—his only choice of freedom developing into signing his disturbing life to a contract that bolted his body to the gates of desperation, skinning the bare bones of humanity he hadn’t known would ever be left.

So, no. Five’s life, in short, has been completely, totally, without a doubt, utterly fucking miserable.

The guy has no idea how to have a good time. He doesn’t understand the first thing about having fun. About doing things for the simple reason of enjoyment. About resting his unsettled heart to the softest thrums of music, participating in activities without needing them by any means of survival.

That’s the thing about Five; he picks up habits and skills only for the purpose of using them in aid of saving someone’s ass someday—nothing he knows, although can be used for such, actually proves to be of any source of entertainment for him. It’s solely based upon the principal of conquering whatever obstacles he might face that threaten his own life along with his family’s.

And that sucks. That really fucking sucks. At least Diego thinks so—and it’s not as if he sits around on his ass all day long doing things for the shits and giggles—but, hell, at least he knows how to let loose every once in a while. And really, once you really consider it, it’s no wonder Five is so fucking uptight all the time. He has no real source relief, no activities to release his anger rather than supress it, no hobbies to explore and offer him a nice dose of dopamine to take him off that constant nervy, grizzly edge.

He’s a prickly son-of-a-bitch for plenty of reasons and then some more, but that doesn’t go to say he can’t unlearn a few things and take aboard healthy coping mechanisms every now and then. Five’s new opportunity at re-living his life comes hand in hand with understanding how to be a functioning fucking person—something he’s still struggling with—and indulging in play certainly can’t be of any harm. In fact, quite the opposite.

Or, well, at least Diego thought so before that statement got smacked right back into his face.

“You,” Five snarls, face flushing crimson for reasons Diego can’t make out, “can quite literally, fuck off with your colouring books, Diego. I’m not seven.”

“No, you’re Five,” says Diego, just to be funny. Five’s scowl in response is quite clear of a tell that he doesn’t think so.

“Take your shit and shove it up your ass,” he says, grip on a mug handle tightening from where he’s aggressively shoving it beneath the expresso machine.

“It’s just a book, Five,” Diego says, cocking a brow. “It’s not gonna kill you. And, hey,” he gestures to the front of it, tapping the title with triumph, “It says adult colouring book. Therefore, it’s for adults. Not kids.”

“I don’t intend on wasting my time doing infantile activities like colouring,” Five hisses, lashing his cup onto the counter in a way that suggests he would’ve done so much more violently had the mug not been filled with boiling hot coffee. “Work away, Diego, but don’t involve me in your childish endeavours, alright? I have more important things to do to occupy my time.”

“Like what?” Diego challenges, sharply. “The fuck else are you up to all day? What could you be doing that’s so goddamn important you can’t sit down for two minutes and actually have a bit of fun, huh?”

“If I want to have fun,” Five sneers, as if doing such a thing is far below his standards, “I’d go out and hang an asshole’s neck from a bridge. Got it?”

“That’s not true,” Diego says, a little softer. “That isn’t true and you know it’s not, Five.”

Five sips at his coffee in response, leaning over the countertop and glaring down at the paper, clearly indicating that he’s finished with the conversation.

“Look, I wasn’t trying to insult you,” Diego amends, slowly rising from his seat at the kitchen table. “But you’re here in the academy all day and the most I see you doing to actually relax is read. And even then you’re reading some math bullshit that just, literally cannot be fun.”

“I find math very entertaining,” Five replies, in spite of him.

“Okay, fuck, fine,” Diego gives in, fed up with his attitude. “You have your fun doing your . . . math, but I’m just telling you there are other ways to entertain yourself without exercising your brain to the point of exhaustion, alright? Colouring isn’t childish. It’s a way to relax and satisfy your mind.”

Five continues to say nothing, still frowning down at the paper as if it’s personally offended him, however there’s a slight shift in body language in Diego’s direction that shows he’s listening.

Taking that as an opportunity to get through to his small brother, Diego continues. “Luther colours all the time. So does Klaus. It isn’t belittling, or shameful, or ‘a waste of time.’ It’s a good outlet, and all I’m suggesting is that you try it. Okay?”

Five doesn’t reply, but his head slowly peeks up from his steaming mug to scope out the colouring book on his own, studying the object as intently he would an equation.

Diego doesn’t mean to, but he gingerly sets a hand on his brothers shoulder. He squeezes it gently. “Think about it,” he says, softly.

Five continues staring.

Diego certainly doesn’t expect to see Five, kitted out in his pyjamas, flat out at the kitchen table in the early hours of the morning, hunched over none other than the goddamn colouring book.

He arrives in the doorway with a bed-head and hoarse throat, fully intending to pump a protein shake and some scrambled eggs into his system before his rather productive morning schedule. The gym is calling his name, his electrician coming to fix the TV in his apartment is calling his name, and his lunchtime date is also calling his goddamn name.

So, quite the eventful day he has arranged for himself.

And yet, here Five is, crayon in hand and face scrunched in concentration and suddenly all of Diego’s plans have launched themselves out the door.

“Good morning,” he says, fighting the horrific urge to smile the way his softened heart wants him to. “Watcha’ doing?”

“Colouring,” Five says simply, scribbling rather intensely at the illustrated page below him. His hair flops over in feathered tufts, dark locks delicately dangling before his eyes. He’s in deep focus at his own little masterpiece, and Diego physically has to cover up his fond expression with a forced cough.

“Oh yeah?” He says instead, as casually as possible as he strolls to the fridge, pulling out the ingredients for his breakfast with feigned nonchalance. “How’s that going for you?”

Five doesn’t answer for a minute, and Diego sneaks a glance up through his lashes curiously, watching with fondness as Five leans further over the table to colour in a particular spot, totally lost in the conversation with his attention so diverted to his art.

He looks so young. Diego fumbles with putting together his stupid shake because he can’t really get over how little his brother looks. It’s not as if it’s easy to dismiss Five’s small height and childlike features from his stunted appearance, but it’s not as if their brothers behaviour and attitude allows the Hargreeves to forget his actual age behind the thirteen-year-old masquerade.

Except when Five acts like this; content, quiet, devoted to something much more pleasant than murder, for fucks sake—it’s nearly downright impossible to picture the old man beneath the mask.

And, really, in so many ways, Five still is that child, lost and misguided and stripped from his sense of safety, born into a brutal childhood that advanced into a lifetime of despair, consuming him with this agonising grief Diego isn’t sure if he’ll truly ever be able to let go of.

But if he can let go, even just for a little while, then Diego is going to help him take that chance whenever he gets.

He fiddles with his protein shake wordlessly, digging out the blender and dumping in the power with a watchful eye lingering on Five, heart fit to burst with affection at the sight of him slumped over the table, leaning on his elbows and fishing through a bowl of crayons Diego’s not too sure where he got from.

Upon a closer inspection, it turns out Five has done more than just filling in the lines. Pages of messy scribbles and black crayon are laid out across the table, cluttered piles of paper scattered around him in a weird, discoloured assemble of dark and light.

“What’s this?” Diego asks, gently, just as he’s finished blending his shake. He slowly lifts up a page filled with aggressive black crayon, as if Five had let loose in a raging fit of angry scribbling, nearly ripping the paper from how hard he must’ve pressed down with the crayon.

Five glances up, scowling instantly at the sight of it before he ducks his head again. “Something stupid,” he mutters, continuing from where he’s shading in an elephants trunk.

“Is . . . do you want to talk about it?” Diego says carefully. He squints and studies the sheet a little closer, and when he’s certain Five’s eyes are fixed on his elephant and nothing else, he holds the page up towards the light, where he can make out the faintest outline of seven figures before they had obviously been covered up.

When he turns away from the window, from the morning sun exposing the truth behind the page, Five has looked up and is staring at him with an expression Diego can’t quite define.

Diego runs his thumb along the top line of the sheet, swallowing thickly. His appetite isn’t really there anymore. “. . . Did you draw us?”

Five’s eyes are large as he gazes at him, a suspicious glisten in them that Diego won’t account for, before he drops his head to stare at his lap, crayon still in hand from where his arm perches on the table. “I might have,” he says, darkly. “So what?”

“No, I’m not accusing you of anything,” Diego sets the page down on the table before he pulls a chair over to sit opposite his brother. “I just . . . is there a reason you scribbled it out?”

“Because you died,” Five says bluntly. His head has snapped up from its shyaway to the floor, eyes steely and holding quite the composure considering they had definitely been slightly wet only moments ago. “And I’m angry about it.”

Diego nods slowly. “You’re . . . angry about it.”

“I’m angry about a lot of things, Diego,” Five says. His fingers are restless upon the table, switching the blue crayon between one hand to the next as his leg vibrates on the chair. “It doesn’t matter.”

“Of course it matters,” Diego says, managing to level his tone rather than outright yelling sense at his brother. If he wants this conversation to be in any way productive, he needs to keep it by all means at a level Five won’t blink away from. “It—you can always talk to us, Five. Even if you don’t know why you’re angry, or you don’t want to say why or whatever—there are so many ways to let yourself get that energy out that we can help you with.”

“I’m not angry about you dying,” Five says. Diego can only hope anything he’s informing his brother is actually registering. “I’m angry that I didn’t save you the first time. I’m angry that you didn’t save yourselves. I’m angry that I had to see you die so many times because every time I fucking close my eyes all I see are your goddamn corpses, and I’m angry about it!” Five’s fingers clench around the crayon, eyes flashing in fury as he leans slightly more forward. “I’m angry because I’m sad. I’m sad when I can’t sleep. I’m sad when I can only see my siblings as dead fucking carcasses, rotting away right next to me while I have to accept a whole new life of fucking survival. I’m angry because—I’m sad because—”

And then, suddenly overwhelmed with his own emotions, Five throws the crayon to the floor and covers his entire face with his hands, a pained noise coming from his mouth that sounds like a cross between a sob and a howl, terribly meant to be suppressed from the way he grits his teeth to prevent it.

“Hey,” Diego whispers, heart sinking into his gut. “Hey.”

Five’s face has turned a blotchy red from both the tears clotting his eyelids and the absolute rage he possesses for allowing himself to express his feelings this way. He’s frustrated with himself, frustrated with the world, and the first and foremost thing Diego can think to do is take his hand.

He tugs softly at the fingers pressing into Five’s eyelids, pulling the hands away to reveal the choked sobs forging their way up his throat, his entire face crumpling in deep anguish, overcome with distress as he cries openly before his brother. Diego takes his left hand and holds it between both of his own, doing nothing to stop Five from crying as he presses his mouth to the tiny fingers cocooned between his.

“Fuck,” Five spits, wriggling his free arm suddenly to loosen his pyjama sleeve to cover a hand, pressing it against his mouth. “Fuck, sorry. Fuck.”

“You’re okay,” Diego murmurs, continuing to press tender kisses to his hand. “You’re okay. Don’t apologise. You’re allowed to cry.”

“I don’t care,” Five mutters, still furiously scrubbing at his eyes. “Fuck.”

Diego says nothing, not entirely sure of what to say, capsuling Five’s small hand with the warmth of his bigger ones, resting his chin there to observe his brothers face as kindly as he can.

“I’m not judging you,” he clarifies. “I will never judge you. This?” He gestures to the distraught pages splayed around them, “is good. It’s healthy. You’re getting whatever it is going on up there,” he taps the side of Five’s temple, “out here. Even if you’re not saying it outright, you’re speaking it through the pages, and that’s a step in the right direction, okay?”

“It’s fucking dumb,” Five spits, harshly. Still, though, he hasn’t made any attempt to remove his hand from Diego’s grip. “I don’t know why I’m crying over a goddamn drawing.”

“It isn’t about that,” Diego murmurs. “You know it isn’t. And it might feel like a bad thing, but it isn’t. Not in the long run. I just . . .” he trails off for a moment, hesitating as he tries to forge together the right words. “I just want you to have a way to get whatever bad shit’s stuck on your mind, out of it. And, look,” he picks up the coloured-in elephant, smiling despite himself at the perfect shading, not a smidge over the lines. Typical Five. “You ended up with this, right? You had a moment, got it out of your system, and now you’re chillin.’”

“Chillin,’’” Five repeats, which absolutely shouldn’t be as endearing as it is.

“Chillin,’” Diego grins, squeezing his hand.

Five stays quiet for a moment longer, slowly pulling his hand away and biting his lip as he studies his crayons intently. After a while of scrutinising transfixion, he leans back into the bowl to fiddle around for a minute, pulling out a bright green crayon that clearly hasn’t been used yet.

Shyly, he hands it over to Diego, clearing his throat awkwardly with that same faint blush tinting his cheeks. “Do you want to colour with me?” He asks, fingers twitching slightly.

Diego takes the crayon with his soul bursting viciously with affection, the sudden tender love he feels for his brother spurting in thick streaks through his veins, casting a glass orb shielding the flares of adoration around his heart.

“I would love to,” he says, with a smile, and Five’s face lights up like a thousand suns.

aLSO all DC muses being added/are already here, which i’m posting bc i don’t have bios posted for all of them so this is a quick rundown. as generally known, the main plotline of this blog is one big universe, but ofc, there are basis for these characters personality traits. And the main verse that is this blog’s verse has a mix of S/nyder and R/eeves, we don’t accept hate to either here. Also technically J/oker 2019. minor comic and other influences but i take what fits into the main world as my wild colorful brain views it (and yes, as an autistic, I view things differently than the non auts who call me names or choose to insult me-- too bad so sad for u tho i’m friends w the block button)

H/arley Q/uinn, who’s been here, she’s not an original take she’s based off her og solo run but ppl think ‘oh she’s mean’ means original take when thats LITERALLY WHO SHE WAS BEFORE THEY WATERED HER DOWN TO HEROFY HER I dont accept that arc here. but i'm also not including all the canonical times she's forced consent on others, aka pushing J/oker into sex, breaking into floyd's house and laying naked in his bed and bullying him until he agrees to have sex, pushing ivy into physical contact until ivy agrees no matter how many times they say no. yeah. none of that happens here. but i do recognize it happens in canon, even if the fandom refuses to. al/exis k/aye, aka p/unchline, also a mostly original storyline not entirely following the comics, but idk i think she’s neat du/ella d/ent, aka h/arvey’s bio daughter who he was so disappointed wasn’t twins he chose to ignore entirely, bc even tho i love harv/ey he is a terrible dad. case in point, his daughter’s obsession w villains and calling herself their daughters (she’s been j/okers daughter, ri/ddler’s daughter, etc, her coping mechanism is a piece of work). pre her taking that route tho, but she is presently obsessed with E/dward post TB2022.  floyd la/wton, aka d/eadshot, based on older comics, with hints of ss2016 but not a lot, deffo inspo from jltas and games tho. i will never write fl/oyd x h/arley please never ask me, she literally wouldn’t leave him alone and broke into his house and sat naked in his bed until he’d have sex w her in canon. we’re not doing that here. keep that away from me.  s/ofia f/alcone, carmine’s legitimate daughter and therefore selina’s half sister. inheritor of carmine’s entire criminal bs, but because she wasn’t a player at the time, now has to become a player in the war for head of gotham crime.  jane mo/riarty, technically started as an original interpretation of a moriarty sibling from s/herlock h/olmes, but i plotted and developed a DC plot relating to her in the TB2022 universe, so she’s here now. university professor by day, weaving the web of gotham’s underground criminal schemes by night.  J/ames G/ordon, currently a detective in go/tham, not yet commissioner, trusts batsy entirely but doesn’t let the team know about his affiliation with him. uncle to and eventually adopted father of his niece, b/arbara g/ordon, when his brother and sister in law die in a car crash. 

P/amela I/sley, who is mostly based between older comics (including her runs in the SS) and A/rkhamverse, NOT watering her down the way the comics and shows did to just turn her into ‘har/ley’s girlfriend’ nor will i pretend the canonical interpretation of their ship is somehow healthy when they’ve beaten the shit out of and mentally abused each other to no end. in general if you want a healthy ship, don’t look towards h/arley, and i/vy deserves better, but all in all I am not watering them down for the sake of romance. they’re villains. we can write them as healthily as we can plot if you want, but pamela deserves better than what the comics and that show have done for her. and the fandom as a whole tbh, which is why i love the interpretations i follow over canon 99% of the time. and if you wanna plot/write w any of them lmk and hit me up w a plot if u have one, or if you wanna try and get to a comic point or game point or anything, it can be discussed, but i will not jump into ships w pamela, alexis, or ivy. everyone else is a case by case basis.
