I shouldn't be this mad about story changes, but every loser fan is allowed one (1) Purist tantrum.
1) I know they're not gonna wait 16-years since Wandavision so Billy & Tommy can be completely reborn into new families (even if it feels like they're taking for-fuckin-ever getting shit together for a YA movie anyway). But it still hurts to do the Kaplans dirty this way. In the comics, they're still Billy's parents because he was born to and raised by them. They didn't lose or grieve a son, bc their William and Wanda's Billy is one in the same.
Also: "This kid and all his friends are totally only 13!" Sure, sure. Didn't even try making him look shorter or to use makeup or cgi to give him a baby face. The show really said "go with it, we don't want to hire minors for 10 minutes" and I respect that.
2) You're trying to tell me Billy killed Jen and Lilia? The MCU!Billy we just saw get upset about Alice and kindly buried Sharon? The comics!Billy who is constantly terrified of accidentally hurting and/or controlling people with his power, like Wanda, and one of the few times we saw him wish death on another was to protect his loved ones? Nah. That better be a trick and he really sent them somewhere safe because otherwise fuck right the hell off.
3) Ohhh, so the boyfriend isn't Teddy? MCU is still ignoring the existence of the galaxy's greatest prince, huh? ....Why make the names so close tho?
4) Please, when they find Tommy, let him be related to Bohner. That'd be hilarious. I don't care if Bohner never becomes Pietro, but he can still be the weird supportive uncle. Seeing him is the only time I experienced joy watching this show.
5) I still hate that Billy isn't manifesting/focusing his power with mantras. Why tf would this child have a spellbook and know Latin? Killjoy mcu, dude.

Yapping about TFONE, major spoilers, so do not read if you haven't watched it yet
Also as I write this, keep in mind that the only TF media I've consumed is TFP (my fav), TFA, RID2015, most of the Bayverse movies and some bits of IDW (I..... mainly read Soundwave's and Shockwave's wiki sorry 😔 but I do hear some bits of other story lines too) and G1
First things first, this movie is fucking awesome. it's been SUCH a long time since we got a movie/show that has focused on Cybertron or the bots ALONE. I know the comics/games have been doing that but shows and movies are the most easiest consumable form of content, so to get that is fucking amazing. Secondly, it's amazing that we finally get a story that's mainly focused on MEGOP's background (I'm pretty sure the comics also has it covered but I'll mainly be talking about films/shows, sorry I still haven't read IDW, I know it slams cheeks).
I'm really happy they actually changed things up a bit for the story compared to other iterations. I'm not sure how common it is for OP to be a miner, but I think it helps solidify MEGOP's relationship a bit more compared to the archivist and miner/gladiator role that I think is more common? I'm also surprised many of the Autobots, if not all of the ones we know, are actually miners as well, while all of the Decepticons were part of the High Guard, but I'm pretty sure it's to keep the movie simple so I don't mind (like TFP has 3 books IIRC covering the entire story, good god).
I'm surprised the Quintessons are actually still a major threat, though I'm also surprised that they removed the 4 faces thing... I thought that was the coolest part about them 🙁 Either that or they just haven't shown them. Though, I do like how they incorporated them into the story, it's really interesting. Also I think the dome part over the entirety of Cybertron is new? Sure I guess. And also robotic deer.... Whatever man LMFAO I can excuse the grass and earth matter but I don't know about deer
Also! I'm happy that the 13 primes was actually brought up and shown on screen! Like usually it's just a mention or something but no, they're on screen! We can see their faces! Also, Megatronus having the Decepticon logo as his face (like Tarn) made me lol.
The biggest surprise to me was Arachnid actually being a loyal follower of Sentinel Prime? All my life I've known her as a lone wolf, so this new approach for her is really cool. Not a bad change I say!
As for the main story, I really really love that you get to see D-16's descent into his villain arc. Like the first time he killed a bot, you can tell the shift has changed, even before he went up all over Orion's face. I will say, I kind of wish they pushed Megatron's motivation to "take over Cybertron" because he doesn't trust any more leaders a bit further? Like maybe a speech after Sentinels death, but I suppose he already did one with the High Guard, but I think one with the entirety of Iacon would be good so there could be more merit to his cause. Unless he did one and I forgot then whoops 💀
Also the scene where Sentinel carved the Decepticon insignia into D-16 was raw as fuck. HOLLLYYY SHIT IT WAS SO COOL I couldn't stop giggling and kicking my feet
Anyways, one major thing I kind of have a gripe with is that having the Matrix of Leadership makes Energon flow again throughout the planet...? I think? Because what causes most of the wars over Cybertron (I think) was yes, political ideals, but also the battle over Energon (because they were running out). Though correct me if I'm wrong on that one. I don't know, it just feels like half of the desperation of winning the war is gone, but maybe it's also just because it's the beginning of what's to come. Maybe Primus gets sick or something, who knows.
Other than that, I think it's a really solid movie, especially for newcomers. I've been hearing there's new TF fans coming from TF ONE which is really good! Like we've been getting flop after flop of TF movies so this is such a nice change, especially now that it's actually focused on the bots!
Sorry, side tangent. Who thought the humans thing was a good idea. Like every time you go into the TF fandom, when have you seen the humans? I don't even remember the last time I saw actual fanart of the human cast of any iteration. The first thing you will fucking see is bot on bot action let's be serious here.
ANYWAYS I LOVE TF ONE, I hope it motivates Hasbro to make more TF media that's focused on the bots instead of fucking EARTHHHH

okay for the character ask game I couldn’t decide on characters or numbers, so I just threw some random characters and numbers together, and you can decide which apply the most to what character. Whatever you like!

What do you like or dislike about this character?
SQ - in the show, I like his introspection and that they fleshed him out to not just be Curtain's adopted son who loves art and is under his control (in both a good and bad way). My only issue is that he's not in season 2, we were robbed!! As for the books, I like that what starts out as comic relief ends up being a horrifying realization that this poor teenager is brainswept so much that he can't remember what he's saying. What I dislike is that we never get to see him grow beyond that. Yes, we see him choose kindness (which is great btw) over Curtain, but I wish we had actually gotten to see him in Riddle of Ages besides a quick mention.
Jeffers - I love that he gets to be goofy. Sure the Ten Men in the books were scary, but they let him just be whacky! And why not? I love characters that get to goof around and be silly, especially if they're not supposed to. Plus, you can tell the actor playing him is having a blast and that's how you know a character is well-done. I just wish he had been in season 1, but I'm glad you put him in S.O.S. so I can enjoy him there, Bods!
Garrison - I like that this character exists, first of all. I know book Curtain is the type to want to keep the science secrets to himself, but show Curtain needs a science person to delegate Whisperer stuff to. After all, when would he have time to do this?

But seriously, I also love that while she does bend to Curtain, she does try to stand up to him in her own way. There's a complicated dynamic there (made more complicated by reading @nobodysdaydreams S.O.S. AU fanfic, which you should read if you haven't yet because OH BOY does it change things about Garrison for you) and it's so interesting to analyze. Also, she's just a little bit quirky and I love her for that.
Nicholas - in the show, I love that they gave him issues!!!! They made him anxious and the way Tony Hale makes his posture more stooped is *chef's kiss* lovely. His "excuse me - *cut to loud screaming montage*" is TOO RELATABLE. I think they were so right for that. Also, making him more directly responsible for Curtain's downfall was a great choice (though I don't actually blame him because he was a literal child it wasn't his fault; if anything, I blame the adoptive parents for separating twins and just not coming back for the other that's so messed up??? Who does that?????). The only thing I dislike was that they basically cut down his narcoleptic attacks to nearly nothing by the second season, almost like they didn't exist. Like, y'all, come on, don't do that!
As for the books, I love his wisdom, compassion and how he always makes time for the children. He always seems to know what they're thinking and is able to encourage them in their darkest hour. Although, I have a love/hate relationship with how they cured his narcolepsy in TPD because on one hand, I hate the "curing disability narrative", but on the other he actively hated it and wanted it gone (plus he had to suppress his emotions so much because of it) that I can't really blame him for wanting it gone...hard to know how to feel on that one!
Kate - KATE MY BELOVED!!! Again, I love everything about her. For show Kate, I love how fast-paced she is. It always makes me laugh when she says something like, "Tower. Scale it. Now!!!" It's so funny to me. Emmy did an amazing job bringing that aspect to life. Show Kate is also rougher around the edges -- I don't hate it because it's more realistic...it's just sad. :(
As for book Kate, I like that she brute forces her way to solutions. Oh she doesn't understand this maze? Guess she's running through the vents. I always admired her agility (and wished I could be that cool!!). I also like that she had to grapple with the dark urge of violence because it makes sense, she's the muscle of the team, why shouldn't she end the bad guys once and for all? A dark theme, sure, but I'm glad TLS didn't hold back on it.
Rhonda - Show Rhonda is so cool because she's so good at mediating within the group and I love that she also tries to fight in her own way against Curtain outside of their work with the society. We love to see some small acts of activism!!! No notes, amazing character.
For book Rhonda, I love how caring she is. She just always finds a way to show the group in big and small ways that she cares about them. I feel like if anyone is neurotypical in that group, it's her, and for once I mean that in a good way (let's be real, someone probably needs to be to remember things and help with social cues) /j. I wish we got to see more of her!
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
Nicholas - in the books, that he learned ASL for Violet in his prequel book! I took 3 ASL classes and while it shouldn't be a big deal for a hearing person to learn sign language for a Deaf person, many times they won't. I love that he automatically accommodated her needs, rather than trying to make her accommodate him. As for the show, the screaming scene comes to mind, but I like that he reads aloud to his friends, I think it's sweet :)
5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?
Garrison - Giants by Imagine Dragons
Soooo again I had to manually pick this song since I don't really think of MBS characters + music together (which is weird of my brain to do, but whatever!). The reason I picked this song is because it's about addiction and someone reflecting on what they've become because of it. I think it especially applies to your S.O.S headcanon of Garrison and how she is in season 2. Wish I had a happier answer. :(
7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
Jeffers - that y'all gaslit me into thinking his name was Jeepers (s/o to @mvshortcut for reassuring me I was right) and that we have Secure the Perimeter Saturday. I think it's beautiful. 😍 ❤️
8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
Rhonda - I haven't seen anything I truly despise, but it definitely irks me when she gets forgotten (or whitewashed, I was worried the show was going to do that). She's such an interesting character and deserves to be included as much as possible!!!!!! Again, it's nothing I've actually seen, but if I had to pick.
9. Could you be roommates with this character?
Rhonda - yes, I think so! She'd get the worst end of the bargain dealing with my eccentricities, but I honestly think we could make it work. I'd do my best to try to make things easier for her living with me lol.
13. What's an emoji, an emoticon and/or any symbol that reminds you of this character or you think the character would use a lot?
Kate - 🪣 ...sorry, I had to!
15. What's your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn't matter if it's canon or not.)
Kate x Reynie - Sorry not sorry, I've always been a Kaynie girlie!!!! I enjoy that TMBS didn't dive into romance at all because it's good to get a break from that. Unfortunately, I'm a hopeless romantic and, at least in the books, I saw potential for something to grow when they got older (like when Reynie gets electrocuted by Curtain in TPD and Kate holds his hand while crying...that scene BROKE ME 😭 😭 😭 ).
16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?
Garrison x Curtain - idk if anyone actually ships this (I haven't seen it, I'm just adding it to the mix for consideration), but the thought of this makes me want to barf. Just....nah.
18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?
Nicholas - I've always admired his relationship with Milligan. If you're able to gain the loyalty and friendship of someone who's lost all of their memories, you're doing something right. :) I know Nicholas is always going to feel responsible for Curtain's misdeeds, and by extension, Milligan's memory loss (in both the books and show since Curtain is his brother and Nicholas is too much of an empath to not feel some kind of guilt), but I truly admire how he treats Milligan as someone to be taken seriously and who he wants to help.
20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?
Jeffers - I don't know if this crossover is allowed, but can you imagine if Moocho Brazos and Jeffers became friends outside of Curtain's influence? I don't know, I just feel like they would be besties and potentially great together in a fight. Moocho would totally break out some cool helicopter fighting moves and Jeffers would do...something?

I think he's behind that door. The platform bears his symbol, and it's his final chance to show up in-game.
The best theory I have is that Bilious Slick is the god of Sgrub, and he only appears to a party of Players who have truly proven themselves. Given that Sgrub's endgame involves the creation of a universe, his role probably relates to this in some way.
Maybe he's the one who grants the Players the 'seed' - or whatever else is mechanically required to alchemize a universe.

The thought has occurred to me, too! I've been skimming some old posts while writing asks, and a couple of things have stood out to me.
We still don't know who the pen pal is. I'm still convinced he has something to do with Grandpa Harley, and my best guess is that he's someone who contains Grandpa as an alchemical component.
The session monitor in Skaianet's lab has a new meaning now. Every single one of those sessions could spawn a universe. And it's been implied that every planet with intelligent life will eventually spawn Sburb sessions. If you do the maths, it's clear that each universe should spawn billions of sessions. Just how many 'children' does each universe produce?

If we assume that the kidsona was on comic-canon Earth, then she's in the universe created by the Zodiac trolls. The universe that she and the trollsona could create could be a completely new one!
...that is, if they create a universe at all. There's nothing saying you have to use that grist on a universe, and they might have other plans...

I read Worm a couple of years ago. In retrospect, it would also have made pretty good liveblogging material, although probably not quite as good as Homestuck. There's some great stuff in Worm, but a lot of what I really like about it doesn't show up until close to the end.

I initially assumed that the Psychic Double Reacharound was a contingency plan that she'd prepared earlier, since she couldn't possibly have come up with something so elaborate in the heat of the moment, while bleeding out on the ground.
But then I remembered she came up with the Sollux/Mind Honey plan seemingly on the spot, and now I'm not so sure. God damn, Vriska.

If was clear from early on that things in Homestuck weren't always what they seemed. Hell, sometimes they're not even what we're shown.
We have to assume some of what we're being told is true, or else we wouldn't have a story - but we always have to remember who's telling the story.

It's kind of a funny question, isn't it?
From Davesprite's perspective, he did change the future - his future. John died, but he 'changed things' - and now John's alive, even though he was dead 'before'.
But if you zoom out a little, you can see that this change was predetermined by the Alpha Timeline, which always depended on these events. Davesprite changed the first-order future - but the meta-future was always set in stone.

The Medium's timeline is so weird, isn't it? Its retroactive existence is difficult to puzzle out.
I don't think you could see the history of your Land by travelling back before you entered. All physical evidence of that history is there, but it's generated in a single instance when you Enter, and can't be accessed. It's analogous to read-only-memory.
After all, John, Rose and Dave are in the past with respect to LOJADE, but they're never going to see its 'history' - and Jade's Entry isn't going to insert it into the Medium retroactively. It won't have been 'there all along' when John was flying around earlier on his jetpack - it'll only ever have been there from Jade's Entry onwards.
As for getting into Earth's past, I think Karkat had it right, when he described the kids' original universe as 'a set of points to choose from'. You can't get into Earth's past by time-travelling around the Medium, but that doesn't really matter, since you can open portals into any point in its history, as long as you have the gear.
They're fascinating questions, aren't they?

Hivebent's art is fantastic! I really see why the comic blew up around this time. It's really coming into its own, stylistically. Of particular note is the art of Make Her Pay, and the art accompanying Aradia's final monologue. I can't wait to see more!
Gamzee is just too high to be rendered in a less symbolic manner.

Sollux is broken, and probably another mutant. The Sgrub trolls don't seem surprised by his level of power - but considering their circle includes other absurd espers like Aradia and Vriska, they probably aren't the best people to ask about what's normal.
Damn, I wish we could have seen more of Alternia. I know some of the spin-offs dig into this, but I hope we get more in canon, too.

Terezi's dream self is blind, because that's the version of herself she identifies most with. There's very little doubt in my mind that your dream self would reflect your self-perception in other ways, too. Skaia is clearly an ally - thank you, king.
You could imagine a Player whose dream self changes after they realize - or conversely, a Player whose dream self cracked their eggy loking thign. I'd be surprised if there weren't many fanfictions where this is a plot point - and depending on how things shake out in the comic itself, I'm not ruling it out.

I guess Matespritship isn't explicitly described in terms of romantic love. It's described as a close analogue of human romance, which is 'rooted in strongly positive emotions'. I've been assuming, based on that, that Red Romance is effectively interchangeable with the human concept of romantic love - but I suppose that's not necessarily the case.
I do think you're hitting on a very good point, here, too, which is that the quadrant system itself is described as something that trolls need. I think the 'need' for these categories is enforced, artificially, for the benefit of the Empire. It wouldn't be the first institution to pull something like this.
Either way, it'll be interesting to see how the troll/human ships end up shaking out. It's going to be a challenge to merge their respective relationship frameworks. The best solution, of course, is for them to experience their own relationships without any cultural baggage, but I don't think I'm just speaking for myself when I say that that's easier said than done!

Also every time Michael Arden says, "All my best ideas come from [ Andy Mientus ]" is like d'aww they're cute together.

OBC I did not like the Reprise because even through the Discman (... that's a Walkman for CD's) I had the sense that it was a "comic relief" moment that relied on the existence of gay boys as the joke.
The Deaf West production kept a sense of respite and relief, and some comedy in the relationship dynamic between Ernst and Hanschen rather than playing on preexisting stereotypes...even though it didn't change a word of the script in that scene, which is amazing on a text analysis level like what happened who used the Captain Planet power ring with the power of heart in this scene, what sorcery is this?
So it depends, because the non-reprise Word of Your Body does a narrative job—Melchior haters can feel free to hate, but I can understand what the musical version was trying to go for with his character, and Word of Your Body was part of that.
Groff's Melchior came off more smarter-and-better-than-you but sort of giving up his pretensions in the process of seduction, and I can understand why that aspect might look appealing.
Doyle's Melchior doesn't have that "he's a ruthless boy but maybe i can change him"—I think he plays Melchior as more sad and desperate, and putting that energy into studying is how his Melchior thinks he gets a handle on his own feelings.
McKenzie's Melchior is an oafish, bookish 14-year-old boy trying to act smooth as he condescends to a Deaf girl. He has as much primal sexual energy as a newborn beagle puppy, which to be clear is none at all. I think that can be endearing, that he doesn't really know what he's blathering about in terms of life experience.
Wendla's a consistent constant performance-wise, all three versions I think balance out to a constant average...so it's really the Reprise that determines which one I like better.

OBC Reprise was very much worse than OBC Word of Your Body...but, Deaf West Reprise was a little better than Deaf West Word of Your Body and a lot better than the OBC Reprise. But I like the OBC Word of Your Body better than the Deaf West Reprise, at the same time that I like the Deaf West Word of Your Body an equal amount as the OBC Word of Your Body, contextualized comparatively being different than the chronological context that defines its vibe in an individual show's run time.

19. Explain the song of purple summer.
Ilse recovered from her trauma and now owns her sexual identity, despite the history of everyone in her home and community doing their worst to her in ways that directly targeted that very intimate part of her. Her story is not the main plot of the show, but the fact that she survived and found personal definition means she now has her own voice on which to carry the wisdom of her life. That will be what heals and inspires others. Red or pink sunsets plus blue evenings make the sky in summer purple. At the end of the day, there still is beauty in living.

Hi there. Hello.
So, I love Death Battle. A lot. It's by far one of my favorite webshows, and like a lot of fans, there are plenty of matchups that I would give my left nut to see them tackle. So, I am officially using this blog that I'm sure nobody cares about to make my official
TOP 16 MOST WANTED MATCHUPS
as of 2023 at least. These are going to be ordered from least wanted (but still great) to most wanted, and I'll give my overall thoughts on what I'd want and why I'd think it'll be cool to see, as well as the connections and a potential track name. All thumbnails were made by me, let's go.

#16: Locus vs Din Djarin (Red v Blue vs Star Wars)
Connections: Two ruthless bounty hunters who rarely show their faces who were originally not interested in forming relationships with anyone, just acting as killers. That was, until they met someone who needed help protecting and had a change of heart, turning over a new leaf.
Potential Track Name: Beskars of the Past
I know what you're thinking: "Isn't this just Boba Fett vs Predator 2: Electric Boogaloo?" While yes, these two are similar to Boba and John Yautja, there's plenty in this matchup to give this a different feeling than that episode had. You can have actual banter between these two that doesn't rely on forced movie quotes, higher stakes if the animation is set up like Locus is hunting Grogu, and there's more interesting weapons that can be used, like Locus' shield and Din's rifle. For this matchup, I'd say give Din the Darksaber, only because a final battle between that and the Great Key would be really cool, having Din use a stronger weapon than the key, but one he's not at all skilled with. There's more than enough here to make this a solid spiritual successor to Boba's three episodes without bringing him back.

#15: Old Man Logan vs The Last Ronin (Marvel vs TMNT)
Connections: Older, more jaded versions of classic comic book heroes, jaded by experiencing the loss of most people in their lives and being forced to keep on living due to specific mutations in their bodies.
Potential Track Name: You've Changed, Man
This is among the most highly requested TMNT matchups, and for good reason. There's just enough different with this matchup that makes it a really solid and debatable version of Wolverine vs Raphael. You can do so much with the storytelling here, too. I'd personally like if the two knew of each other as the Wolverine and Michelangelo, so that both of them can have that moment where they're shell-shocked (haha) by who it is they're really fighting. There can be a moment where Logan's claws don't come out fully and he needs to force them up with his hands, to Mikey's confusion, or there can be a moment where Mikey acts way more brutal than his cartoon counterpart, to Logan's confusion. It'll be a nice way to differentiate between the two and add some storytelling and emotional elements to this script.

#14: Ghost Rider vs Spawn (Marvel vs ...)
Connections: Edgy comic book anti-heroes who were orginally ordinary men who made a deal with the Devil (or devil-adjacent) to become hellspawns at the cost of their servitude, using chains and guns to deliver their version of justice. Eventually they unseated the Devil and became the ruler of Hell. Also, it's an angel vs demon fight.
Potential Track Name: Chained to Hell
I don't even know what to say about this. It's the most basic bitch answer to anyone's favorite Marvel matchup. Both Rider and Spawn deserve a runback due to how much content that wasn't used in their episodes and how long ago they were, and both have plenty of weapons and abilities they can use to make this fight interesting. Out of all the matchups on this list, this actually has a chance of happening this season, given how people said that they pentagram in the cipher was teasing this. I hope they're correct, but I wouldn't be mad either way.

#13: Jimmy Hopkins vs Karma Akabane (Bully vs Assassination Classroom)
Connections: Two delinquent children with a long history of violence who came into a new classroom ready to cause trouble, only for them to learn the error of their ways and be on the paths for forging something else out of their lives, changing up their school's entire social hierarchy.
Potential Track Name: Juvenile Justice
I fucking love both Bully and Assassination Classroom. While other matchups like Jimmy vs Yandere-Chan or Koro-Sensei vs Monokuma work, I don't know, there's just something about this matchup that hits for me. I really like the idea of these two talking trash to each other the entire animation, both of them pulling out their non-lethal weapons like stink bombs and BB guns, and running around the Bullworth campus avoiding getting caught by prefects and teachers. I also really like the dynamic of Jimmy being more physical and using his guns while Karma is way more strategic, using his advanced training to get ahead. I don't know why, but I really like this matchup. It would be so fun to see play out.

#12: Elliot Dunkel vs Guy Hamdom (El Goonish Shive vs She-Zow)
Connections: Two teenage boys who can transform into female superheroes, originally dreading this until learning that they had a mission to protect their small towns.
Potential Track Name: She's a Superhero!
Despite the gimmicky nature of this matchup at first glance, there's a lot more to it. You can have the fight start out with both of them in their base form, where Elliot has the advantage due to his Anime-Style Martial Arts training, until Guy turns into She-Zow and forces Elliot to transform as well. I'd love if we get a brief fight with Elliot as his cat form before he turns into Cheerleadra, but I'd understand if that's too much. Speaking of too much, She-Zow has a lot of weapons and abilities at their disposal. To name a few, there's a Boomerang Brush, Lipstick Laser, Shrink Ray, Vanishing Cream, she can wink so hard she creates gusts of wind, she can make her fist grow bigger, and she can even do a Sailor Moon-esque sonic shriek. I'd love to see She-Zow bust out all of these weapons, only for Cheerleadra to just brute-force her way through all of them. Despite Elliot's obscurity and She-Zow's problematic writing, I still think this matchup is worth doing. Just don't watch the show She-Zow's based on, it's not very good. I just wanted a good matchup for my boy Elliot.

#11: Ridley vs Vile (Metroid vs Mega Man)
Connections: Villains from classic NES/SNES series with purple motifs and cybernetic enhancements that have a personal vendetta against the protagonist of their series, who they fought and almost killed on multiple occasions if not for an outside force messing with them.
Potential Track Name: Ride for Revenge
I know there's a lot of debate over who Ridley should fight, with some people saying Rayquaza and others saying Vilgax, but I personally think Vile is the best option for him. Both have great potential for banter and some cool exchanges, like a beam struggle or Vile busting out all the Ride armors to compete with Ridley physically. The big question is if Ridley would have his cybernetics or not. I'd vote yes, but only so that you can have Ridley start the fight with his full enhancements to lose them as the fight progresses, mimicking how he progresses in canon and to simulate battle damage on him. Plus, I'd love for the fight to start out like Vile is investigating a planet when Ridley starts picking off his crew one by one, similar to how he does in his Smash Bros. trailer. Metroid and Mega Man are franchises I've gained more and more appreciation for, and this matchup would be so cool to see.

#10: Yor Forger vs Beatrix Kiddo (SpyxFamily vs Kill Bill)
Connections: Two fake brides who are secretly assassins that specialize in blades.
Potential Track Name: Newlydead
I again don't have much to say about this other than "it's fucking cool." Yes, it's a complete stomp in Yor's favor, yes Beatrix only has 2 movies to work with, and yes, this is a street-tier fight between who people with not a lot of weapons to work with, but I don't care. This is the female version of Bond vs Wick, what's not to like? Yor is one of my favorite anime characters, and Kill Bill is a movie I love to death, so seeing them both be covered would be awesome. Plus, there's plenty of potential for cool moments, like both of them pushing through lethal wounds to keep fighting. In particular, I would like Beatrix to land the heart-exploding technique on Yor, but have her keep going to show how resilient she can be. Really, this can just be a cool ass sword fight and nothing else and I'd be happy.

#9: William Afton vs Junko Enoshima (Five Nights at Freddy's vs Danganronpa)
Connections: Main antagonists of their series who were behind most of the events that happened, using robot bears to kill children.
Potential Track Name: Remnants of Despair
I know, I know, lot of negative feelings towards this matchup. While I get the criticisms, I think there's plenty here to make for a great episode. Junko can take control of the Monokumas and have those protect her, as well as having plenty of weapons on her own and Alter Ego Junko. William, meanwhile, has the springlock crank, a fucking gun, a time-travelling ball pit, hallucinatory disks, and an ai alter ego of his own (I know it's technically an ai reconstruction of him, but shush). Plus, you can have major moments in this animation where they both use their intellect to get one-ups over each other. I would love there to be a scene where William has Junko dead to rights, there is no escape for her, only for her to start laughing uncontrollably and say that she loves the despair she's feeling. The only problem I forsee is how they'll tackle the FNAF story, but that's easy to work around. I kinda get why this matchup is taken with such vitriol, but I still love it and would love to see it happen someday.

#8: Kimiko Miyashiro vs Nezuko Kamado (The Boys vs Demon Slayer)
Connections: Ordinary girls who live in worlds where dangerous super-powered individuals run free that eventually became one of those individuals after their families where murdered. Due to their powers, they became extremely protective of their brothers and joined a team of people who stop the super-powered individuals, eventually falling in love with one of the members.
Potential Track Name: Josei no Seizon-Sha
This would honestly be just a better version of Mileena vs X-23. This would have to be a high-paced fight between two girls who brutally tear each other apart, only to quickly heal from these wounds and get right back into the fight 2 seconds later. There's so much potential for cool moments that you can focus on because these two don't say much. One scene I'd love to see is if Kimiko ripped a tree off its roots and pinned Nezuko's arm with it, only for Nezuko to rip her arm off to take a swing at her, regrowing the arm like it's nothing. This fight sounds way too cool to pass up and I wouldn't miss it for the world.

#7: Aragorn vs Jon Snow (Middle Earth vs Game of Thrones)
Connections: Literary rivalry between two human warrior kings in fantasy worlds.
Potential Track Name: A Song of Snow and Flames
I mean, duh, right? This has been a debate ever since both these series hit the mainstream, and not just in vs debating circles. You'd be shocked to know that I haven't watched Game of Thrones or read the original books, but I am a huge fan of the Middle Earth books and the LOTR movies, and Jon Snow is a character who interests me a lot. With the release of Sauron vs Lich King and Undead vs Dragonborn now making fantasy matchups actually cool and hip with the kids, I forsee that this will at least be in consideration for future season of the show. It's not particularly close, but it's still rad as hell.

#6: Raven vs Sailor Saturn (DC vs Sailor Moon)
Connections: Magical girls on teams of peacekeepers who are seen as misfits due to their past trauma with their abusive parents, but with the power of their friends, learned to overcome it and make their own destinies.
Potential Track Name: Titans of Silence
Raven was a character who meant a lot to me growing up, with me seeing a lot of myself in her, and the same can be said about Tomoe when I first watched Sailor Moon later on in life. Both perfectly straddle the line between cool as fuck and being genuine sympathetic characters; easily some of my favorites in their respective shows. So, imagine my joy when I realized that this matchup had plenty of great animation potential. Both have so many neat abilities they can use, it'll be cool to see them bounce off each other. Raven is a returning character, but her episode against Twilight mainly focused on emotion-manipulating magic. Here, you can focus on the more destructive side of Raven, perfectly in line with Tomoe being the guardian of silence and destruction. One scene that could perfectly exemplify this is a moment where Tomoe strikes her glaive on the ground, destroying the planet the fight is taking place on, forcing them both to fight on the bits of the exploding planet. This has a lot of potential, and I'm not alone in seeing it.

#5: Pennywise vs Freddy Kreuger (It vs Nightmare on Elm Street)
Connections: Two demonic horror icons who create nightmares and feast on people's fears.
Potential Track Name: New Nightmares
I feel like out of every single matchup on this list, this has probably the most animation potential, since both of them can do pretty much anything they put their minds to. Despite the nature of their powers, they're not bound by a single person or by being specifically in dream realms, this animation can just be a fun, chaotic, terrifying fight between two reality warping demons. What I love about this matchup is that they both have so many ways to banter with each other and insult one another. Obviously verbal insults are on the table, but both can shapeshift into characters and people from each other's past. Pennywise can taunt Freddy as anybody from Elm Street, the people who killed him, or even Jason Vorhees as a cool reference, and Freddy can turn into any of the Loser's Club. I'd love if they turned into Wes Craven and Stephen King and pretended to be their creators renouncing their creations. This matchup is only bound by the crew's imaginations (and budgetary restraints), and I would love to see what they could come up with. Just don't turn this into Jason vs Michael 2 and have it be about Jane Shlane.

#4: Henry vs The Second Coming vs Red vs Fancy Pants Man (Henry Stickmin vs Animator v Animation vs Dick Figures vs Fancy Pants Adventures)
Connections: Four stick figure characters who were pioneers of their specific genre in the world of internet animation and Flash games.
Potential Track Name: Stick it to 'Em
Yes, I'm using the name that Brandon Yates used is his track for this matchup, bite me. As for the reason I want this matchup to happen it's simple: I think it'd be really cool. I loved stick figure animations and games growing up. I spent probably all of middle school thinking about the cool animator vs animation episode that I watched or the funny things that happened in Dick Figures and Henry Stickmin, and I only just now got around to playing the Fancy Pants Adventure games, but they're still really good! I love all of these characters, so why not have them kill each other? And yes, The Second Coming is the AvA rep because he has more to work with than anyone else. Speaking of, the animation potential for this matchup is through the roof. Henry and Red have so many weapons to pull from, and TSC and Fancy Pants Man can interact with the environment in so many cool and creative ways that they're bound to be tons of cool shit that happens. In terms of who wins; Fancy Pants is obviously the Volnutt here, Red isn't doing particularly much, but I've heard plenty of good arguments for either Henry or TSC. I'm personally leaning towards TSC, only because I want a death that involves a choice screen popping up like in the Henry Stickmin games, only for TSC to completely ignore that and stopping Henry from making the choice in the first place. This matchup has only gotten better with time, and I would love nothing more than this to be Death Battle's tribute to Flash animation.

#3: Shuma-Gorath vs Starro the Conqueror (Marvel vs DC)
Connections: One-eyed alien conquerors based on starfish that can control people’s minds.
Potential Track Name: Seeing Stars
Look, I know Marvel vs DC matchups have gotten really stale ever since a certain season dropped during the pandemic, but a lot of those matchups can still be really creative. We got a glimpse of that with Ant-Man vs Atom and Wanda vs Zatanna, but Scarecrow vs Mysterio lends itself well to horror and trippy visuals, and matchups like Swamp-Thing vs Man-Thing and Dormammu vs Trigon can have the hosts explore the Marvel and DC cosmologies without seeming like huge undertakings. But for me, my personal favorite Marvel vs DC matchup is Starro vs Shuma. Both these 2 are some of my favorite villains in all of comic books, and I would love to see how high-scale Death Battle can make this matchup be. The tricky part here is getting their personalities down, since they both can oscillate between "goofy ridiculous golden age weirdos" and "lovecraftian horrors beyond comprehension." The way I'd handle it would be to have the fight start out as a campy kaiju fight between giant starfish that gradually escalates beyond the plane of reality, taking the fight to the Nightmare Realm and beyond, with both of them becoming more etherial and horrifying as the fight progresses. I don't have much to say besides that. This is by far my favorite Marvel vs DC fight and one that I wouldn't complain about being the sort of farewell to that trope on Death Battle.

#2: Nimona vs Grace Scuiridae (... vs El Goonish Shive)
Connections: Two shapeshifters who were demonized for their unnatural abilities. Both would be the target of capture for a major antagonist, meeting up with a mad scientist that they would soon grow attached to. Both can mold their bodies into whatever form they wish and both desired to go down opposite paths; Nimona wanted to become a villain and Grace wanted to become a hero. Eventually, both Nimona and Grace would end up confronting the people who tortured them all that time ago and face off against them, showing off a powerful rage-induced form that they would get lost in until one of their friends helped them calm down.
Potential Track Name: Shady Shapeshifters
I think I'm the only person on the planet to ever conceive of this matchup, but fuck it. Nimona and El Goonish Shive are two of my favorite webcomics of all time, with the movie adaptation of Nimona being my second most anticipated film of this year (second to Spider-Verse, but still). So, once I saw the similarities between these two, I fell in love with this matchup. As much as I would love to see how Death Battle tackles the stories of Nimona and EGS, it's the animation and writing that excites me the most. The start honestly writes itself; Nimona starts some shit in Moperville, Grace goes to stop her. Easy peasy. But it's the rest of the fight choreography and writing that I think could make this something special. Nimona and Grace have such different ways of shapeshifting, so it'll be cool to see Nimona's rapid beastial shapeshifting contrast with Grace adapting her own body to counter what Nimona's doing. You can have Nimona breath fire at Grace and be confused as to why she seems completely fine (since Grace's fur is fireproof), you can have a moment where they both transform into squirrels and awkwardly scratch at each other in the trees, you can even have an exchange where they're talking about their geneology and Nimona says "I'm a shark!" and Grace replies "Well, did I mention I'm part space alien?" Speaking of the writing, you can have a sort of narrative follow the fight, where Grace tries her best to pacify Nimona, who keeps getting frustrated that Grace isn't really taking the fight seriously. Then when Grace accidentally triggers Nimona's trauma from their past and/or calls them a monster, Nimona goes berserk and starts destroying Moperville (either the comic dragon or the film beast works for me, but I prefer the dragon). Then Grace looks at all the destruction they're causing to her home and starts getting mad too, transforming into her berserker form like she did against Damien. I imagine that the kill would be an accidental one where the winner starts getting emotional while the loser comforts them as they're dying. Even though there's one matchup I love more than this, given how obscure these two are in the realm of versus, this would get a much bigger reaction out of me. Speaking of a matchup I love more...

#1: Percy Jackson vs Zagreus (... vs Hades)
Connections: Two sons of one of the "Big Three" gods , who have massive daddy issues due in part to them being lied to about their parents. They eventually embark on a quest where they need to go in and out of Tartarus to see their biological mothers. Both have been trained by famous Ancient Greek heroes, both have had weapons and abilities passed onto them from the Olympian Gods, and both have connections to Achilles.
Potential Track Name: Thicker Than Water
I know what you're thinking: "What about Percy vs Harry Potter? Or Pit vs Zag?" While I think Pit is a fine opponent for Zagreus, I am not a big fan of Harry vs Percy for a lot of reasons. I won't get into them now, but I'm kind of over Harry Potter as a franchise at the moment. Hades, on the other hand is my favorite game of all time and Percy is my favorite fictional character of all time, so imagine how shocked I was that nobody else was really suggesting this matchup even though it would be really fucking cool to see. Now, there's not really much in terms of connections (more than Korra and Storm had tho :P) but where this matchup shines is the animation potential. Both Percy and Zag have so many weapons and abilities to bounce off each other, it might shock people to learn that Percy isn't just water bender man. He can shake the earth, create storms, and he has a javelin that can fire nets. I would love to see Zagreus use Hestia's boons to create wind vortexes and have Percy create a small storm to counter it, or have Percy use the water created in Poseidon's calling to whip Zagreus around. Obviously the fight would take place in Tartarus or Zagreus can't stand a chance, but I would love if the end took place near the surface world like the final boss does in the game. Hell, I think an appropriate way to start the fight would be to have Percy beon a mission from Hades himself to stop Zag from reaching the surface world. Oh, and the banter here would be awesome to hear; they're basically the same in terms of personality and how they talk. I can go on about this matchup for days, but just know that this is my favorite matchup of all time and I would love love love if Death Battle (or any vs show really) tackled this.

"They're fine," Ren said, waving dismissively at the havoc the three cats had wreaked upon Hux's chambers and each other (the sofa was covered in cat hair, the caf table had been upended, Millie's toys were everywhere, Pudge's tail was missing a chunk of hair, Miu Miu was covered in jam for some reason, and in a fit of pique Millie had made a deposit in the middle of the floor), and Hux realized Ren truly did not fathom the danger they were in.

They'd only just met, but suddenly Kylo was holding Armitage's hand, pulling him closer, and whispering, "We have a lot in common."
It had happened before that some upstart would try to ingratiate himself with Armitage; he was tired of it, and this time he let himself show it, muttering a terse "I don't have anything in common with anyone."
But, "We're not the same," Kylo said fervently, "but we are the same, in the ways that matter."
It was a ridiculous statement, and Kylo himself was ridiculous, big and brash and beautiful, with an intensity in his deep brown eyes that Armitage had only ever seen in the mirror before now.
Despite himself, despite everything, Armitage thought he might be persuaded to believe him.

Which Writer made Starline most competent? Part 2
9: Starline says that the entire planet could collapse from badly warped space-time if Super Sonic failed to do things right, saying that creating and directing his warp portals is supposedly difficult. How? He had no problem creating and directing his portals without being powered up. Wouldn’t he give his Warp Topaz glove a better interface than that? I thought the whole reason Eggman suggested the Warp Topaz was that it’d be a lot easier to generate a portal that way than by relying on Chaos Control. Naturally because it seems like all he has to do to generate one is select the location with a button and raise his hand while Chaos Control would require visualization. 10: Sonic Bad Guys Issue 1: Starline decides to test out the multi-tool heel spurts, because apparently despite calling Eggman sloppy, he didn’t test them out before going here.
11: I don’t know why Starline didn’t use his brainwashing glove to make the warden go to sleep the instant he saw Zavok instead of wasting time talking when we already know what he’s telling us. In hindsight he would’ve woken up even earlier then but maybe the real problem was that he didn’t tell him to “ sleep for a half hour, “ if he could really do that instead of just saying sleep, which he probably could if he could have Rouge kidnap Tails so long after he hypnotizes her later. Even if that makes sense, was it really necessary for him to give the warden his real name? Or nickname, if Starline's not his real name. I suppose overconfidence that he could overcome the consequences is a believable explanation, but he's supposed to be a genius.
12: Starline’s able to try to make a stupid plan with Mimic, and has to be TOLD that it won’t work because they’d see Mimic change into the warden. He’s not that moronic, AGAIN. I know he's panicked now but he should have thought of this in all the time he was making this plan.
13: Bad Guy Comic Issue 2: Starline's plan to get all the bad guys killed only seems smart because they're evil until you remember that most of them would've never plotted against him, with Mimic ONLY being a threat to Whisper and her friends, which means Starline has nothing to gain in this, and NO reason to betray Mimic either way. Eliminating Mimic would only benefit Sonic's team. What was he thinking?! Here's what a genius like him would've done instead; he'd have been safe if he planned to only betray everyone except Mimic and informed Mimic of this when alone with him the first chance he got, or better yet, ask Mimic to HELP him betray everyone there. Either he didn’t want Whisper dead, or he's an idiot too scared to think beyond, “ Mimic looks SCARY! “
14: He forgets about Zavok’s technomagic, not telling him to take control of every robot in the bases he’ll invade with him! Zavok might have remembered he could do that but was so arrogant he thought it wouldn’t be necessary for him to survive the bases. I get Zavok choosing to destroy the robots for catharsis instead of control them because he’s evil so he’d like destroying things to show off how well he can do it. If he in canon forgot he could control them all then that is an Idiot Ball though.
15: Bad Guys Comic Issue 3: Starline SOMEHOW expects his new robot forces to eliminate all of his teammates even though they’ve proven they can fight robots just fine. Not to MENTION Zavok can control robots! I expected him to have a smarter plan than THAT! When he expected to be able to get rid of them all really easily, I thought he meant explosives, putting them all in one room, like he tried to do to Silver so he'd just do that again!
16: Mimic and Zavok got into Starline’s bedroom when he was sleeping because apparently Starline couldn’t just lock his bedroom door. Or was too stupid to decide to with a shapeshifter around! He'd have just told him his plan before this from anticipating this and left him out of the betrayal!
17: Zavok came to find out if the devices Starline promised were booby-trapped and Mimic uses the keyboard and says that no, they’re legitimate, and it’s to make sure there’s no misfires because he wants them to be at their best until he disposes of them. That’s not an excuse! How would there be any misfires?! Why would the devices being rigged to have bombs in them or paralyzing electricity in them give any risk of a misfire?! That’s not the case in Archie! Even Zavok lampshades his short-sightedness. You’d think someone acting smug so much wouldn’t be so insecure of his engineering skill to be paranoid of misfires, unless the smugness was a front to cover up any kind of insecurity/doubt.
18: Bad Guys Comic Issue 4: Starline should’ve made himself speedy as soon as Tumble got his fist hurt, logically, but instead he waited until after they talked.
19: Really, there’s no reason he didn't give Rough two doses of neurotoxin after he gave him one. He wanted to eliminate him! No reason was clearly given for why he didn’t just give ALL of those villains neurotoxin, and kill them. He uses neurotoxin again later so he could've used that and he originally must have had no plan to use it again because he didn't know Belle until he met her, so he'd have seen no reason to save on neurotoxins.
And that’s not even mentioning the time Starline just assumed Eggman didn’t change the passwords on him and the time he instinctively tried to use the Warp Topaz against a badnik when he didn’t have it anymore, because at least those moments of incompetence were believable when he was just operating on past knowledge and force of habit.
Based on these facts about the comic, if Starline was written to not be incompetent he wouldn’t have done anything to betray Eggman that he did in the Metal Virus arc. He could’ve still gotten fired for his belligerence based on Eggman’s reaction to him being shocked that he didn’t make a vaccine, so let’s humor the Sonic Annual issue showing that Eggman made a zombot Starline doll, and assume it means he was planning to get rid of him since he first threatened him, anyways. Even then, a competent Starline under Flynn would’ve actually eliminated Zavok, Rough and Tumble effortlessly.
That could’ve happened and still had the rest of the comic generally go the way it did just fine, the only difference it’d make is avoiding their appearances later. Can’t do that, can’t kill off Sega characters even though he supposedly did that to Starline just fine when Sega owns IDW characters, as proven by them being mentioned in Frontiers and the copyright by Sega phrase in the comic, so to Sega they are Sega characters legally speaking. And apparently the fans all assumed Sonic had the Zeti killed in Sonic Lost World in their last battles with him, so if that wasn’t allowed Sega would’ve forced them to appear in a cutscene after their boss fights.
Meanwhile I have to struggle to think of examples of Flynn actually making Starline competent by comparison. Compare 19 Idiot Balls for Starline from Flynn, with this below list.

Since Count Duckula comics are nowhere to be found to read online, I've been taking pictures of the comics and books I own and have posted them for people to read. This is a comprehensive list of every Count Duckula comic, activity book, magazine, bootleg and more that I've found or documented. I will continue to update in the future with new comics and books I acquire! There will be edit dates as well so you'll know if something new is added.

Now for some weird stuff! I've acquired two Mexican activity books and two Chinese books.

From what I can gather Editorial Mina S.A. is the producer of the Mexican books and have a reputation of copying from other popular media in other editions. The two I own have been filled in already, but I think it adds to the charm. These are Despegando y Jugando (Unstick and Play) and Diverti Cuento (Fun Story). The first is a sticker book and the second is a coloring book.

The Chinese books 怪鸭历险记 roughly translate to The Adventures of Strange Duck. Appropriately named I'd say. The art seems to be traced directly from the show, but the colors are all over the place it's hilarious. I think there are four in total but I'm content with just 1 and 3.

You could argue the rpgs are kinda cheating cause you know, rpgmaker games are as prevalent as VNs, especially back in the day, but neither here nor there. Speaking of back in the day, there was also stuff like Hammerkind, and that Jane cooking game. Also would like to hear some of your fanventure reccomendations, besides VE or Kittyquest. Nothing towards Kittyquest, thats more me already guessing it from the blog banner and description.
heheheheh yeah it's no surprise that I'd recommend Kittyquest, I've had half a mind to blaze a post I made about it, that's how much I think people should read it, like even taking away my davepeta bias (they don't even show up at that often lmao) it's just a much more fun look into a post canon homestuck, with the world its built.
and while it's neither here nor there, I think it's a matter of the era/fandom. Like homestuck fans aren't going towards visual novels because they're any "easier" (the accessibility of tools especially for people who just want to write and draw does help of course), it's because it directly melds well with the format of comics/flashes/adventure games that the series itself runs on, and pesterquest/friendsims normalized it. It's like how if you go back you'll find a whole bunch of [x]stuck AUs and concepts and whatever, because back then people literally just did whatever because it was an active and chaotic fandom, for better and for worse.
For MSPFAs, again I don't spend as much as I'd like to in reading them and haven't really caught up and I already have a huge backlog when it comes to other stuff, but some that I've kept tabs on are, some of these aren't that active though:

Homestuck (last update: April 21st, 2022), an mspfa that starts off where somehow Jade is teleported to the start of the comic, and there's something about OCs and there's a lot of earthbound music and I thought it was neat with how it changes things up

OH FUCK I forgot, Oasisquest (last update: September 16, 2021), it hasn't updated in a while but it's an mspfa that I think is based off the creators' roleplaying, so there's a new planet, mostly fantrolls and the designs are good

Oh and of course Act 8 (Last Update: April 16, 2021), because everybody has to have at least one "the ending of homestuck underwhelmed me, we can totally fix it" mspfa comic to follow. I don't remember too much but it does some neat stuff with Gamzee, Aradia and Tavros get a neat meat up, and Davepeta does some cool stuff here and there, so you know I'm down, even if it hasn't updated in like a year

OH FUCK also Deltastuck (last update: April 13, 2022), it's almost exactly what you'd expect form the name, but it's UNDERTALE characters trying to use sburb to get out of the underground, I haven't checked it out in a while since it had to stop to make a big flash update, but that's actually done now so it's somewhat still going

and uh, I think I'll end this off with a really old one, Nightfall (discontinued), which I haven't even finished but it interests me in that it's so clearly written before certain things in the comic that it almost feels like a time capsule.
It's basically centered around vrisjohn and it's post canon but in the way that I guess people just assumed that when the kids were done with the game and made a new universe they'd do normal kids stuff again and be in a normal americana setting while the trolls fuck off to their own planet, except suddenly Vriska shows up and has to hide out at John's place because humans don't know about aliens.
And of course the stakes get randomly high with some kind of magic alien ninja or something, I never got that far to understand but it was interesting to find, and while the creator doesn't plan on finishing it, they've basically adapted it into an original work, Xenologia (last update: June 25th, 2022) that apparently is still hosted on MSPFA and has multiple chapters out

I realised that the paper girls actresses are all 15/16 etc, they are so young and need to be protected at all costs! They're around the same age as the stranger things kids when they started out stranger things, but also I feel like and maybe it's because I'm 25, but it's good to see that they're casting people who are around the same age more and more in tv shows rather than casting a 25 year old whose playing a 17 year old etc.
I know omg they're so cute! It seems like they are all happy and having fun on set so I hope that means they each have good people in their corner taking care of them while they work. (I had a lot of thoughts so the rest is under the cut lol. Also I haven't read the comics so this is all just based on the show)
What's interesting is that the Stranger Things kids characters were also age 12 in season 1 but the actors were actually 12/13 at the time. I think this made sense since the runtime was split with the teens and adults so the kids didn't film as much (compared to Paper Girls where they are the only main characters), and it worked out better in the long run since Stranger Things has gotten so many seasons and they've grown up a lot in between.
For Paper Girls I think it makes sense they cast the girls slightly older even though the characters are age 12 since they are the main characters of the show and each of them has their own very complex emotional storyline. Younger actors probably wouldn't have been able to give performances as good as the ones we got from Riley, Camryn, Fina, and Sofia. They all did such a great job embodying their characters and really selling the emotions and the drama of a high-concept show. And since they are 15/16, they're still kids, not far off from that age at all, so they really sold the silly and immature qualities of their characters as well. They all seem so sweet, I am really rooting for them now and wishing each of them all the best in their careers.
And finally I totally agree, I really don't like "high school" shows where the entire cast are closer to their thirties, i think they give a really warped sense of what school and adolescence should be like and all that shit is so fucked up in our society already. I think there are better, more realistic shows being made nowadays and it seems like the industry is changing, so hopefully we are making progress for the better. :)

In November 2013, Marvel Comics announced that Kamala Khan, a teenage American Muslim from Jersey City, New Jersey, would take over the comic book series Ms. Marvel beginning in February 2014. The series, written by G. Willow Wilson and drawn by Adrian Alphona, marked the first time a Muslim character headlined a book at Marvel Comics.[2] However, Noelene Clark of the Los Angeles Times noted that Khan is not the first Muslim character in comic books, which include Simon Baz, Dust and M.[3] The conception of Kamala Khan came about during a conversation between Marvel editors Sana Amanat and Stephen Wacker. Amanat said, "I was telling him [Wacker] some crazy anecdote about my childhood, growing up as a Muslim American. He found it hilarious." The pair then told Wilson about the concept and Wilson became eager to jump aboard the project.[4] Amanat said that the series came from a "desire to explore the Muslim-American diaspora from an authentic perspective."[5]
Artist Jamie McKelvie based Khan's design on his redesign of Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel and on Dave Cockrum's design of the original Ms. Marvel.[6] Amanat requested that the design "reflected the Captain Marvel legacy, and also her story and her background."[7] Amanat stated that Khan's costume was influenced by the shalwar kameez. They wanted the costume to represent her cultural identity, but did not want her to wear a hijab,[8] because the majority of teenage Pakistani-American girls do not wear one.[9] Amanat also stated that they wanted the character to look "less like a sex siren" to appeal to a more vocal female readership.[8]
Marvel knew that they wanted a young Muslim girl, but stated that she could be from any place of origin and have any background. Wilson initially considered making her an Arab girl from Dearborn, Michigan but ultimately chose to create a Desi girl from Jersey City.[10] Jersey City, which sits across the Hudson River from Manhattan, has been referred to as New York City's "Sixth borough".[11][12][13] It therefore forms an important part of Khan's identity and the narrative journey of her character since most of Marvel Comics' stories are set in Manhattan. Wilson explains, "A huge aspect of Ms. Marvel is being a 'second string hero' in the 'second string city' and having to struggle out of the pathos and emotion that can give a person."[14]
The series not only explores Khan's conflicts with supervillains but also explores conflicts with Khan's home and religious duties. Wilson, a convert to Islam, said "This is not evangelism. It was really important for me to portray Kamala as someone who is struggling with her faith." Wilson continued, "Her brother is extremely conservative, her mom is paranoid that she's going to touch a boy and get pregnant, and her father wants her to concentrate on her studies and become a doctor."[4] Amanat added,
As much as Islam is a part of Kamala's identity, this book isn't preaching about religion or the Islamic faith in particular. It's about what happens when you struggle with the labels imposed on you, and how that forms your sense of self. It's a struggle we've all faced in one form or another, and isn't just particular to Kamala because she's Muslim. Her religion is just one aspect of the many ways she defines herself.[2]

In the series, Khan takes the name Ms. Marvel from Carol Danvers, who now goes by the alias Captain Marvel. Captain Marvel writer Kelly Sue DeConnick revealed that Khan actually made a brief appearance in Captain Marvel #14 (August 2013) saying, "Kamala is in the background of a scene in Captain Marvel 14 ... She is very deliberately placed in a position where she sees Carol protecting civilians from Yon-Rogg."[15] According to Wilson, Khan idolizes Carol so when Khan acquires superhuman abilities, she emulates Danvers.[14] "Captain Marvel represents an ideal that Kamala pines for. She's strong, beautiful and doesn't have any of the baggage of being Pakistani and 'different,'"[4] Wilson explained. "Khan is a big comic book fan and after she discovers her superhuman power – being a polymorph and able to lengthen her arms and legs and change her shape – she takes on the name of Ms. Marvel," Amanat elaborated.[16] Khan is one of several characters who discover that they have Inhuman heritage following the "Inhumanity" storyline, in which the Terrigen Mists are released throughout the world and activate dormant Inhuman cells.[17]
In the series' first story arc, Khan faces off against Mr. Edison / the Inventor, an amalgam of man and bird. Wilson created the Inventor to be Khan's first arch rival in order to mirror Khan's own complexity. Wilson characterizes the Inventor, and the overall visual look of the opening story arc as "kooky and almost Miyazaki-esque at times", owing to the art style of illustrator Adrian Alphona, which balances the drama of the threats which Khan faces with the humor of Alphona's "tongue in cheek sight gags." During the storyline, Khan also teams-up with the X-Man Wolverine against the Inventor. Because Wolverine is dealing with the loss of his healing factor during this time, Khan is placed in the position of having to shoulder much of the responsibilities, as Wilson felt this was a role reversal that would subvert reader expectations that Wolverine would take the lead in such a team-up.[18]
At the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con International, writer Dan Slott announced that Khan would team-up with Spider-Man beginning in The Amazing Spider-Man #7 (October 2014) during the "Spider-Verse" storyline. Slott characterized Khan "the closest character to classic Peter Parker,"[19] explaining, "She's a teenage superhero, juggling her life, making mistakes, trying to do everything right."[20]
Beginning in June 2015, Ms. Marvel tied into the "Secret Wars" crossover event with the "Last Days" storyline, which details Khan's account of the end of the Marvel Universe. Wilson explained, "In the 'Last Days' story arc, Kamala has to grapple with the end of everything she knows, and discover what it means to be a hero when your whole world is on the line."[21] In the storyline, Khan rushes to deal with the threat in Manhattan. However, Wilson revealed, "She will face a very personal enemy as the chaos in Manhattan spills over into Jersey City, and she will be forced to make some very difficult choices. There will also be a very special guest appearance by a superhero Kamala—and the fans—have been waiting to meet for a long time."[22]
In March 2015, Marvel announced that Khan will join the Avengers in All-New All-Different Avengers FCBD (May 2015) by writer Mark Waid and artists Adam Kubert and Mahmud Asrar, which takes place in the aftermath of "Secret Wars".[23] A second volume of Ms. Marvel starring Khan by Wilson, Alphona and Takeshi Miyazawa is also debuted following "Secret Wars" as part of Marvel's All-New, All-Different Marvel initiative.[24] Amanat said,
By the time this new launch comes around, it will have been almost two years since the premiere of Ms. Marvel—and boy, has Kamala Khan been through a lot since then. She's been slowly coming into her own, dealing with the challenges of navigating adulthood and being a super hero. But her training is over now and it's time for the big leagues; the question is can she handle it? ... As much as Kamala has a right to be there—it's still a bit of a culture shock. Dreaming of being an Avenger and then suddenly being one is a lot to take on for someone of her age. So, she'll be a little awestruck, a little overly ambitious.[25]
In March 2016, Marvel announced that Ms. Marvel would tie into the "Civil War II" storyline by releasing a promotional image illustrating a rift between Khan and Danvers.[26] "While "Civil War II" may have initiated this rift, we've known for some time that Kamala would eventually need to separate herself from her idols. Her journey centers around self-discovery and identity, and a part of that exploration includes separating yourself from those you put on pedestals. The rift between Carol and Kamala doesn't really have to do with right and wrong. It has to do with growing up and realizing that you perceive the world differently from even the ones you love," Amanat elaborated.[27]
In July, Marvel announced that Khan will join the Champions, a team of teenage superheroes who split off from the Avengers following the conclusion of "Civil War II". The team, featured in a series by writer Mark Waid and artist Humberto Ramos, consists of Khan, Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Nova (Sam Alexander), Hulk (Amadeus Cho), Viv Vision, and a teenage version of Cyclops. Waid said, "The first three are the kids who quit the Avengers proper. That was an easy get. Those three, in and of themselves, form a nice little subteam. Their dynamic is great. They all show up in each other's books, and even though they have their arguments and stress points, clearly they're good together."[28]
In August, Khan made an appearance in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #10 by writers Amy Reeder and Brandon Montclare. In the issue, Khan acts as a mentor to Moon Girl (Lunella Lafayette) who is also a young Inhuman that suddenly came into her powers. Amanat stated that Khan sees much of herself in Lafayette and by teaching her, Khan learns much about herself.[27]
In November, Marvel announced that Khan will join a new incarnation of the Secret Warriors in a series by writer Matthew Rosenberg and artist Javier Garron that debuted in May 2017. The team, formed in the wake of the "Inhumans vs X-Men" storyline, also includes Quake, Karnak, Moon Girl, and Devil Dinosaur. Rosenberg stated that there is some conflict and friction amongst the team members explaining, "Ms. Marvel and Quake are really fighting for the soul of the team in a lot of ways, while Moon Girl will continue to really do her own thing. They will all be tested and challenged, they are superheroes after all, but they are going to do things their way."[29]
In March 2017, Marvel announced that Khan would team-up with Danvers in a one-shot issue of the limited anthology series, Generations by Wilson and Paolo Villanelle. Wilson stated that the issue would explore Danvers' and Khan's mentor–student relationship, but "at its heart, [it] is about growing up, and a big part of growing up is discovering that your idols have feet of clay – and forgiving them for their flaws as you gain an adult understanding of your own."[30]
In December, Ms. Marvel began the "Teenage Wasteland" story arc, as part of the Marvel Legacy relaunch. Wilson said, "Since the events of 'Civil War II', there's been friction between Kamala and her mentor, Captain Marvel. In this arc, we're exploring how complicated legacies can be when they're passed from generation to generation ... She's questioning a lot about herself and her mission. Her friends end up stepping into some very important—and unexpected—roles. So in a sense, the arc is really about a bunch of chronically under-estimated teenagers who pull together to fight evil."[31]
Ms. Marvel #31, the 50th issue of Ms. Marvel featuring Khan was released in June 2018. To mark the occasion, Marvel brought in additional collaborators for the issue including writers: G. Beginning in March 2019, Khan headlined a new series titled, The Magnificent Ms. Marvel, written by Ahmed and illustrated by Minkyu Jung. Wilson stated that she had been planning her departure from the series for over a year, stating that she originally anticipated that the series would only last for ten issues and was excited by the fact that she had written 60 issues. Ahmed said the new series will have much wider scope, "while still maintaining that intimate tone that people have loved about it."[33]
In July 2020, Marvel announced that Khan would star in an original graphic novel, published in conjunction with Scholastic and aimed at younger readers. The book will be written by author Nadia Shammas. An illustrator has not yet been named.[34

You made that post about Katara and Zuko being the parental figures to the Gaang. I think that dynamic could be even better when highlighting they're teens,not adults. How would their true ages show up? One of the best things the cartoon did was the maturity/youth duality, especially with Katara.
My original post was actually mostly about Zuko, but @frost-guardian ‘s very true commentary pointed out the co-parenting dynamics. I do think that the show does this indeed brilliantly - having the child-characters in lack of true parental figures step up to support each other, and it’s never about the physical age, but about levels of maturity. It’s also a tool to show their incredible growth.
Katara is introduced from the get-go, in the very first scene as surrogate mom of Sokka; she does everything at home, washes his dirty socks, does much of the emotional work. And she adopts Aang as soon as she bends him out of the ice. Katara’s journey throughout the series is to establish herself as not-mum. To remember that she’s a kid and she’s allowed to have fun, to be immature, to be selfish (she’s the only one by the way the narrative constantly makes apologize for these behaviours, grrrr), but also, to remember that she’s also an individual and is allowed to think what SHE wants and to break out of that long-suffering mum track. She’s able to assert herself more and more as the series goes along (until the end and the comics screw it up).
Zuko’s journey - like in so many other ways - is the exact opposite of Katara’s. He starts out as a petulant brat. Even before his banishment, he’s clearly the junior partner in the sibling relationship with a precocious Azula. Then in Book1 he’s a terrible toddler, throwing tantrums left and right, completely locked in his own head, taking Iroh’s support absolutely for granted. He’s emotionally stuck at his 13-year old self - in the trauma of a child who cannot process that his father did THAT to him. He matures a lot during Book 2, but when he goes back to the palace, he falls right back into the kid-space that he’s only able to leave behind, when he confronts his dad and walks away for good from that entire dynamics.
So that’s why his journey is remarkable, because that post-redemption mature Zuko - even if we saw glimpses of him before e.g. in Zuko Alone - is what comes from letting go of that baggage and the change of environment. It’s a bit like Zuko is the child of the war, of the past, but he’s a leader of the post-war new world - and the Gaang is just that; the first kernel of that new era.
I think much of what’s been said in that commentary is true - Zuko - even if he didn’t realize it at the time - has been educated and prepared for leadership, he commanded a ship at thirteen, he held down a regular job and worked for a living at 16 - he knows a lot. And I think as he’s trying to figure out how to be good, he’s turning onto his only valid role-model; Iroh. So he’s channeling Iroh’s behaviour a lot - making tea, teaching, tagging along to reckless outings to provide back-up, thinking ahead, letting them vent at him, giving them a home, making dad jokes, protecting them by being a human shield.
But he’s new at it, and I guess my post was just that how funny it was that he slipped into the role of new parent (as opposed to Katara’s veteran mum shtick), exuding those vibes of sleepless nights, constant aggravation, having to figure out discipline and setting limits that every new parent is confronted with.
But it’s also not linear; while most of the time Zuko and Katara are mom and dad, the others also mature a lot during the series and step up a lot when the situation requires.
I love how the show brilliantly portrays Aang as a goofy kid of 12, but also the wise man from a different era at 112, and an immortal spirit being and it all comes across very well. In The Firebending Masters, they switch up brilliantly this dynamic between Zuko and Aang, where Zuko is sometimes the reassuring dad to Aang’s frightened kid routine, but the Aang is sometimes the long-suffering great-grandpa putting up with Zuko’s reckless behaviour.
And can we talk about Sokka? Introduced as immature and silly, disrespected both by Aang and Katara - he steps up as the strategist and leader who he struggles to be without a role model to emulate and he manages to define his own leadership style, earn the trust and respect of the Gaang. And we see glimpses of him being an older, supportive figure to especially Toph, but also to subtly change the sibling relationship with Katara, as it becomes more equally supportive.
And Toph, she’s the brat, the enfant terrible of the group, but she also has a wisdom that comes from seeing the world so differently and being able to cut under the surface quickly. And from time to time, she is the voice of reason, the rock they all rely on, because she’s in a way like her element; ageless and unmovable.
So I guess, the point is that because of the war, they are forced into growing up too fast, and because they have their own child-group dynamics, they do have to step into the parental role and take responsibility when the others are off having a “toddler moment”.

25 "Legacies" Details That Will Get You Excited For Season 2 Of "The Vampire Diaries" Spinoff
The cast of Legacies swung by San Diego Comic-Con 2019 to chat about the show and reveal some amazing Season 2 details. Here's everything we learned:

🚨Obviously spoilers ahead for Season 1!🚨
1. First, Malivore will still be a major threat in Season 2 despite Hope sacrificing herself to stop him during the Season 1 finale.

Creator Julie Plec said that Hope "may or may not have gotten a few ingredients in the recipe wrong."
2. Season 2 picks up with Hope being "in Malivore" and her "entire goal as we begin is to get the hell out."
3. Hope will basically be dealing with "the other side of a sacrifice."

Julie hinted at Hope's time in Malivore, saying, "It's not gonna be a fun place to spend her summer break."
4. Danielle Rose Russell said it will be "heartbreaking" to see the development Hope went through in Season 1 seemingly "ripped away" from her.
Danielle also teased that we'll see what life is like outside of Malivore and how everyone is living in a world without Hope.
5. Executive producer Brett Matthews said Hope disappearing from existence will be different than when Lizzie wished Hope away in Season 1.
Brett elaborated, saying, "I think the difference is that was a world in which Hope never existed. The difference is that Hope has affected this world greatly and these characters greatly, they just don't remember that she ever existed."
6. Aria Shahghasemi said Landon will be "completely lost" when Season 2 picks up because "Hope is sort of his rock."

7. Also, looking back at Season 1, Aria said he had "no clue" that Landon would be a phoenix when the series began.
8. Matthew Davis said that Alaric is harboring "some sort of resentment" in Season 2 after being removed as headmaster from The Salvatore School.
9. Also, Matthew hinted that Alaric is looking for another teaching job "perhaps at a different school. Some local school."

10. And, it was just revealed that Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Alexis Denisof will join the cast as Professor Vardemus, who will teach at The Salvatore School.
11. Alaric will be getting a new love interest in Season 2. She'll be Sheriff Mac, who is named after Marguerite MacIntyre who portrayed Sheriff Forbes on The Vampire Diaries.

Marguerite also wrote two episodes of Legacies last season.
12. Kaylee Bryant teased that Josie will be dealing with her knowledge of The Merge and she'll be trying to find out answers.
Kaylee said, "She's staying home over the summer, and she's doing a lot of research. And she's going to be asking a lot of questions." The twins will also learn more about their Uncle Kai.
13. Meanwhile, Lizzie will be have a "positive outlook on life" according to Jenny Boyd.
Jenny also said that Lizzie will be having "a semester of yes!"
14. Descendants star Thomas Doherty will join the cast as a "very old vampire" that'll be a potential love interest for Lizzie.
Jenny teased his arrival, saying, "He has some old ideas about the way things work, but Lizzie might be kind of into that."
15. Fans loved Josie and Penelope's relationship in Season 1 and even though Penelope is gone, Josie "isn't in the mindset to start anything new."

Kaylee said, "Now, whether anything comes from the people that she's already known, maybe. But it's definitely not something that she's seeking at the moment."
16. One storyline that's being debated in the writers' room is about Rafael's parents and whether he has a connection to the community of Mystic Falls.
Julie said, "I can't tell you what the story pitches that we're debating because it might not make it to the table because I disagree with it. But it has something to do with his link to the community of Mystic Falls and what maybe brought him here."
17. Rafael currently being stuck as a werewolf will have parallels to when Hayley went through a similar thing on The Originals.

Rafael spending the entirety of his summer break as a werewolf will "do a number" on him. Peyton Alex Smith, who plays Rafael, said being on his own will also affect what he's like when he returns.
18. While MG was starting a relationship with Nia at the end of Season 1, she will NOT be returning for Season 2.
Julie explained "Every snake that moves on that girl's head is like $7,000 which we didn't know when we wrote the gorgon. And when we planned the Gorgon, when we shot the gorgon. He can have his gorgon girlfriend, but six of the other cast members on this stage would have to go."
19. Season 2 will hopefully feature a Christmas episode with an "evil Santa Claus/Krampus-like monster."

20. There's also been talk in the writers' room to bring in an evil version of Cupid for a Valentine's Day episode.
Julie joked that it would be "Cupid's asshole brother who feeds on lovers as a way of sustaining himself."
21. While we don't know the context, we'll be seeing a clip from Gremlins in the first episode of Season 2.
22. Season 2 will feature an adorable appearance by Pedro's little brother — he'll be played by Reznor Allen real-life little bro.
23. Also, there will be a new brother and sister duo who both "have a little crush" on Hope.
Danielle joked, saying, "Everyone in this show has feelings for Hope in some way, which I don't understand, really, because she's not nice."
24. Julie hinted that we'll see more of the Mikaelson family this season, especially since Hope disappeared. She recently wrote an episode with Freya Mikaelson, but due to Riley Voelkel filming Roswell, New Mexico, the cameo may change.

Julie said, "It is obviously our intention to pay great service to the fact that a girl disappeared from an entire family. And they're somewhere in New Orleans, not really understanding what happened there. So we definitely want to tell that story. No matter how we do it."
25. And finally, in terms of seeing Caroline Forbes on Legacies, it's something that we'll hopefully see, but it's not confirmed as of right now.
Julie said, "Hopefully one day we'll get to have a family reunion and maybe that day will be sooner, maybe it'll be in a little while. So, we shall see."
Legacies Season 2 premieres Thursday October 10 on The CW.
