Some rambling, but I actually only got back into fiction as an adult recently. Last year I followed along with a Frankenstein Weekly mailing list (the first fiction book I’ve read since high school), then took a break from fiction for half a year before impulsively borrowing the audiobook for Our Hideous Progeny, a spin on Frankenstein with women and dinosaurs. I ended up loving that and I’ve been engaging (not exclusively) with a lot of Frankenstein-adjacent media since.

WHAT’S FUNNY is that as much as Johannes Cabal resembles my beloved Victor Frankenstein, I actually found JCtN on an old Reddit thread for books with similar vibes to the Addams Family sitcom. The resemblance to Frankenstein (obsession, preoccupation with death, introversion yet devotion to loved ones, restoring life, basically medical fantasy, et cetera) was a happy surprise

Jungkook Ideal Type

This was a request so I thought I’d start from here.

Jungkook has high expectations in terms of ideal type because he actually has very small expectations from them. This is obviously confusing so I will explain.

As mentioned in an earlier post, in a relationship, Jungkook is a very giving person. He hardly ever thinks about what he can get from the person he loves. Most of his fantasies are about what wants to give to them. However, he is pretty aware of this personality trait in himself and knows that it is something that can be easily manipulated. This is why his screening process of letting people in is so strict and fussy. He wants to make sure that the person who will be the subject of all of this generous affection, is someone who naturally understands what he needs without him having to ask or demand, because it’s not his natural personality to ask for anything. Even if he needs something, which everyone does, he will just keep it to himself and stay hurting on his own when no one understands it. He is quite aware of this whole process and cycle and therefore feels that he needs to be extra careful of who he brings into this. This is why his ideal type personality traits are so nit-picky-like. They mainly cover the aspects of the ability to understand his own personality traits, which are complex and quite confusing, often even to himself.

Now getting to the specifics, the previous point leads to the most important characteristic that Jungkook wants in his partner: someone who understands him in all his myriad moods. When Jungkook is in his best form, he is the best partner, friend, son, brother, colleague that anyone can even hope to have in a lifetime. But no one is always is their best form and Jungkook is no exception. But what sets him apart from most people is that he has a general awareness of this, and therefore knows that when he goes into his dark place, he is also a really difficult person to handle. And he thinks it would take someone exceptionally understanding to stand by him in those moments. He fears that anyone who gets into a relationship with him only for his good, brighter moments, will stand to be shocked at his not-so-bright moments and then will start unloving or possibly even hating him and it will leave him with a heartbreak that he will never recover from. It’s also a possibility that he has already had an experience of this kind and therefore is even more careful about who he chooses now.

Jungkook has an innate ability of aesthetically appreciating beauty and his head is bound to turn at the sight of someone pretty, but the majority of it is in a more artistic manner, so the subject of beauty can be a woman, or a man or an object or anything else, without always having a romantic or sexual connotation. So although he is a “man” man who enjoys looking at beautiful people with the occasional thought of “smash-worthy” in his mind, he’s also the type to judge a face on its closeness to the golden ratio. It’s just the artist in him lol. When it comes to relationships, Jungkook is definitely the type to find someone a lot more beautiful when he develops feelings for them. Someone can look really average in the books, but if Jungkook is in love with them, they are the MOST BEAUTIFUL person in the world and no Maxim cover model can ever compare to them in his eyes.

Having said that, he appreciates a person who takes care of themselves. It’s an often misunderstood demand because people might think he wants someone skinny and perfect but his mindset behind it is really his own principle of prioritizing health and fitness in life. It’s something he does for himself because he believes it to be important and right. Therefore someone he would spend his whole life with should naturally prioritize this as well, because he doesn’t want to spend his whole life convincing or arguing about something that should be considered as a necessity. However, he doesn’t have a set body type that he idealizes. For him, the personality trumps looks and if he does expect his partner to look a certain way, especially now that he is a famous idol, it’s because he knows that whoever will become his partner will be subjected to a lot of judgement and criticism from really harsh people and the media, so he feels that someone who naturally has an understanding and love of their physical upkeep, will not have to go through an unnecessarily rough time adapting to these societal demands. Interestingly though, personally, Jungkook is a lot more lenient about his partner’s looks. Being a K Pop idol has actually desensitized him to physical appearances because he constantly sees both the before and after glam-room changes, and he now values the things that do not change with or without makeup. Even at his age, he’s the type of mature who knows that no one, no matter how beautiful, will always stay looking the same way, and that if one’s love is dependent on such a fleeting thing, they will never find true fulfillment in life. Peep the old interview in Sydney where BTS members were asked to describe their ideal type in one word and Jungkook said “nice girl”. He has the makings of being the type of husband who, you know how women’s bodies change when they give birth, would shower even more compliments about how great they look so that they don’t feel insecure about themselves. The flipside of this is that if he ends up disliking someone, they’d better run for the hills because Jungkook will say and do everything to make them feel worse about everything about themselves even though he actually doesn’t mean it nor does he consider anyone unattractive for their physical appearance. He tends to be a lot more critical about his own looks that others’.

Besides being someone who can fully and patiently understand him, Jungkook has no other “demands” from his partner. He’s flexible about everything else. It’s just that understanding Jungkook automatically means that his partner has to have a set of really complex and nimble personality traits themselves. Patience and empathy are key elements here. Don’t be too quick to judge him. Like any other 22 year old, he’s in a stage of forming and crafting his own life view, so there are plenty of rough edges that show through without him intending as such. Be willing to listen to his viewpoints without instantly adjudging him wrong. Be open-minded as well as aware of your own limitations. Are you judging him because he is wrong or are you judging him because of your own limitations in thoughts and beliefs? There is that little window of exchange that Jungkook opens and if he feels violated off his own freedom of thought and speech, he quickly shuts it down. On the contrary, the more space he is given to be himself and figure things out for himself, the bigger that window gets and eventually one day, there is no wall at all.

Jungkook admires someone with their own goals and ambitions. It doesn’t have to a very big goal, it just has to be your own and something you are really passionate about. He doesn’t expect his partner to be a hugely successful anything or bring in a lot of money to the table. Jungkook tends to hold this concept that he has to be the bread-earner of his family, so he doesn’t depend on anyone else for his own material needs (kind of a reason why he moved out of his home to follow his own career path so early in his life), so it’s really not about the money or the status. Rather, because of this wanting to be the provider, he tends to feel insecure if his partner is a little too passionate or successful in their own career because then he starts to worry if he will ever mange to match up to that, but that is a minor egocentric blockage that he has to work on which I feel like he will. The reason why he wants his partner to have their own passion is because Jungkook himself doesn’t work solely for money. He works (or at least really wants to) for his ideas and visions. And he needs someone to understand the importance of this in his life.

Although he seems quiet and introverted, Jungkook really enjoys a good conversation. His Aquarius dominated chart really shows through here. It is a stimulant for him to the point that it can be foreplay lol. Jungkook doesn’t engage in any and every conversation because 1) he’s not interested in superficial small talk all the time, and 2) it’s sad really that he has been, for the most part of his life, not taken seriously for his speaking or even thinking skills. He’s been more treated as this person with the “body” and everything a body can do (I’m mostly talking about singing, dancing, exercise, but yeah what you’re all thinking about as well), so he keeps the “mind” part more to himself and only opens up when he feels like he won’t be judged or belittled for what he has to say, because secretly though, he knows that he’s a lot smarter than a lot of people around him. But since he has been directly or tactically told to shut the hell up all his life, he now does it on his own without having to be told. But of course, he wants the one he chooses to spend his whole life with, to be someone who wouldn’t do that and with whom he can have many hours of conversations with.

This directly says that his ideal type can’t be someone who is overcritical of them. That is because Jungkook is overcritical of himself and what he needs is someone to balance that out by encouraging and motivating him to see his better side, and even when he needs to be corrected or critiqued, which he actually wants his partner to do for him, it has to be with genuine love and understanding and not with the intent of insulting him. His own mind and self-talk is pretty demeaning to himself that erodes his self esteem every day, and he doesn’t need someone to add to that.

He likes someone who speaks with love and gentleness but he can also tell when someone is being a fake sweet talker so don’t try that on him lol. He likes honesty with respect. Also when he said in his interviews that he wants someone who can teach him new things via a relationship, he wasn’t lying. A lot of things he wants in his ideal partner are also things that he wants to learn for himself. So if he wants his partner to be honest and respectful, it doesn’t mean he only wants them to be that way while he gets the clean chit to do whatever he wants. Rather, he wants his partner to be that way because he wants to learn to fully embody those qualities too.

Jungkook has a very dominant masculine type personality, and deep down, he longs for that to be balanced. This is why he actually craves for someone with an equally strong personality as his own, who won’t be daunted by the strong aspects of him, yet be fluid enough to fill in the cracks and crevices as needed. The yin to his yang. Like I said, Jungkook’s ideal type right now is flexible for the most part. It is less of ticking from a list of “I want this and this and that” or how she looks and is on the outside, and more of who will best match and adapt with his personality which is also changing every day. This “match” also has to be beneficial for his partner because he believes that an ideal relationship is about the happiness of both people, and when he’s interested in someone, he’s often obsessed with the thought of whether he can keep them happy. So his ideal type is someone who not only fulfills him, but someone whose needs he can fulfill as well.

I'm a very open minded person, kind of quiet but I get talkative the more I know you. I'm the chaotic friend who's usually down to do anything with you. You could literally talk about anything (except math), and I would listen to you attentively if you sound excited enough. I do swing from lazy to hyper and energetic. There's very few people I genuinely open up to, but I dearly love them so god help anyone who insults them because I can and will fight them (nothing can stop this 4'11" gremlin!!!). My humor is either dirty innuendos or sarcasm. I am also the kind of person who can cry just cause someone else is crying. For hobbies, I'm very fond of cooking, singing, and playing video games. I absolutely love sweets and I am very much a cat person. I hate bugs with every fiber of my being though, I will definitely run out of the room like my life depends on it. An ideal date would probably be relaxing at home or going somewhere quiet to hang out and talk.

Necessary for their line of job, but definitely a plus for Melone due to his…tendencies and personality and interests. So I feel like he would be very into open minded people (like yourself) because that just means more acceptance and more things to try out ;)

I mean he may brush off or ignore other people’s disgust, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to be accepted too uwu so your open mindedness is one of the big reasons you’d catch his heart!

If you have limits, he will push them from time to time, but reign him in and he’ll be more than willing to behave (with a price ;3)

Melone strikes me as someone who talks moderately in general (he just talks to himself a lot), but he will talk more to the people he’s close to/comfortable with, and his excitement when he realizes you’re actually listening to him will shoot up and up and up (like his rate of talking).

He knows you tend to zone out when he’s talking about math related stuff, so that won’t come up often with him, but it still will sometimes because he probably thinks your expression is just Di MoLtO~🥴

He also loves collecting data/information on you, so whatever you talk about to him, he’s gonna be typing it down simultaneously!! So not only does he listen, he remembers (and has like 50 sub-folders on the stuff you say lol). This is mainly because he wants a more cohesive file on you. Like I said, he already believes you’re practically the perfect match for him with all the information he has on hand already, but his appetite for more information about you drives him to do this because it’ll just affirm for him that ‘ok wow this person really is my match made in genetic heaven’.

Ghia’s excitement comes in the form of rage and it happens often, so while he loves that you’re listening to him, I think he would almost never show you that he appreciates it. Also, if you’re talkative when he’s stressed or angry, he will yell at you to shut up. Ris would be straight forward (tells you that he’s not in the mood) and Melone would say stuff like “Not now. Later.” (but he doesn’t sound as gruff as Ris).

Ris is the same way with the quiet to talkative thing (in my HC at least), so getting past that initial stage would be hard as hell with him. Imo Melone would be the easiest to get past that stage, and Ghia…depends? If you keep pissing him off though (bc yk…tsundere with anger issues lol), he’ll be the hardest to get to a comfortable stage.

I HC Ris as having a routine set of things he enjoys doing and it’s on permanent rotation (I’m not saying he won’t go out of his comfort zone, but he knows what he like and if he doesn’t like something, it’s hard to change his mind), whereas with Ghia I HC him as only having 2 interests – cars (more specifically the type of car he drives) and knowing facts (+ disputing and ranting about them). Ris would indulge in some chaos once in a blue moon, but I feel like him & Ghia are set and happy with their current interests.

Melone however would be the most open in terms of what he’s willing to do as long as his safety is guaranteed or if the activity does not involve him getting hurt. Like stealing a yacht or hacking ur annoying neighbour’s computer system LOL

Because you bring that chaos, Melone would be the most fit with you. I know you’re probably like “Huh? Ain’t Ghia chaotic too?”, or “Wouldn’t Ris handle chaoticness the best?”, but chaos (Ghia’s) feeding into chaos (yours) might burn the both of you out, and Ris already deals with chaos 24/7 and he just wants to relax imo. Melone though, looks the most flexible and can probably match up with you the best because of that since he deals with Ghia and the rest on the regular without looking like he’s Tired™️ lol

Like I just mentioned, Melone most likely deals with Ghia’s energy on the regular and he looked chill with the other members too, so he (and Ris as well since yk…he’s the one overseeing everyone in LS) would adapt to your moods the best.

Ghia…I feel like because he has such a short fuse AND is a tsundere (well, at least that’s what I get from his vibe), he would not deal well with your energy if it’s higher up there. He might blow several fuses if the situation and your mood and his mood doesn’t align properly. I also think if he happens on your lazy mood, he would just leave you alone and go do his own thing.

Ris enjoys the sarcasm more than the dirty innuendos I feel, but because he’s also your boss, you have to know where the exact boundaries are when y’all are in a professional setting. But if Ris is in the mood, he’d dirty innuendo you back, but if he’s not then he’d either brush you off or pretend you didn’t just say that lol. Cooking - Ghia’s taste is Picky, so he won’t eat everything you cook and will 100% complain if it’s something he doesn’t like smh. Ris enjoys the domesticity when you cook with him, but he’s 90% in charge bc he likes certain dishes a certain way. He would also give you constructive criticism like you’re on masterchef or some shit😭😂. Melone would eat it all up. No complaints. On the pan, on the plate, on the cutleries, on your body. Man don’t give a fuck. Put your cum in it too and he’ll gobble that shit up SO quick😭 Overall, would eat anything you give him because he’s chill in that aspect bc I see him as kind of a trash eater? 😂

Singing - Ris would listen and dish out a compliment once in awhile, Melone would verbally appreciate it the most (and also secretly record it and save it amongst the 2k other files he has on your singing lmao), and Ghia in all his tsundere-ness would ask you to can it (he really doesn’t want u to shut up but you don’t actually know that lmao).

But then again, it’s not like he’s constantly going out lol, so when you go on your ideal dates with him, he’s reminded that intimate quality time like these are so important too (and it secretly becomes his favourite types of dates as well because more time = more info on his lovely baby)

Risotto would match up with this the best, but that would also mean these kinds of dates (chill, lowkey & personal) will make up majority of your dates. And he (imo) is quite fond of chill lowkey routine type dates, so...unless you’re the homebody introverted type, I don’t think Ris would match the best.

Ghia’s ideal date is probably travelling? And 60% involves his car and other cars & 40% involves trivia & debates (whether it’s a game between you two or at a bar against other teams). No other interests LOL

Is your character considered hot™ in the fandom?  YES / NO/ 50/50 [Some people think Madara’s absolutely hot and there are other people that think he’s.. not. I think it’s the eyebags lol, he just needs some sleep ]

Is your character considered strong in the fandom?  YES / NO [ the only one stronger than him was Kaguya. (at least from a 1v1 perspective, the only one that got close was Maito Gai) LBR here, the man took on an entire shinobi army, consisting of the Kage and the 9 tails. Hashirama and Tobirama, both.. he’s stacked, literally God-tier by shinobi standards. He’s considered powerful, yes, but sometimes I see that people don’t really take that into account when interacting with him in his canon-divergent verses, or try to make a mockery of him. He wouldn’t stand for that bs, tbh.]

Are they underrated?  YES / NO [It seems that as time goes on and Boruto progresses the original cast seems pushed to the side, especially when new villains come out, and new challenges are to be faced. I’d say, yes now. No, when he was first revealed in the shinobi war (i remember how everyone was so excited to see him maul ppl in the shinobi war, but that was so many years ago now).]

Were they relevant for the main story?  YES / NO. [The last part of the manga was directly about the protagonists fighting him and was only overshadowed by Kaguya, so I’d say..yes.]

How’s their reputation?  GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL. [Not really an inbetween here, either.]

How strictly do you follow canon? – So I tend to follow Madara’s canon personality and his backstory, but most of what I write comes after the shinobi war, whether it be in a modern verse or immortal au or anything of the like. The one constant is his personality and experiences in the past, which i try to mirror in all my au because it’s easier to keep his personality consistent if that makes any sense at all.

SELL YOUR MUSE! Aka try to list everything, which makes your muse interesting in your opinion to make them spicy for your mutuals. – Madara’s ambitious, hard working, cunning--basically a Slytherin without the blood purity bs, let’s acknowledge that. He’s surprisingly forward with his reasoning why he’s doing what he’s doing, so he’s not afraid to make waves to change the world to make it a better place (in his view ofc). He’s not afraid to use whatever or whoever is at his disposal to guarantee his victory, even if it’s not completely ideal. You can guarantee that his motivations, while not completely on the “right” side of the moral compass aligns with what he believes is right, which is a double edged sword for him. He’s bold and speaks his mind, and is not afraid of the consequences.

Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?).  – Madara has a bad habit of not trusting people, of becoming too paranoid about their motivations and that’s become his downfall multiple times. He’s too determined or stubborn to see when his plan isn’t working and waits too long to change it and ultimately leads to his ruin. He’s not nice by any means at all, and that makes a lot of people dislike him even if his motivations are good. Also, another note, especially about fandom: they consider madara either complete trash or a complete god, when he’s multifaceted and it’s very hard to not be annoyed by it. A lot of people just consider him this evil entity and it’s.. frustrating.

What inspired you to rp your muse?  – So I was writing Madara when everyone thought Tobi was Madara and I really liked how everything was leading--how he was manipulating the entire world to do what he wanted and immediately wanted to write him because his mentality was so different than mine. Granted, I was coming from writing an OC, Severus Snape and Draco Malfoy (two of which i had wrote with my irl friends since I was in middle school, passing a notebook between classes every day). I wanted and needed a change because my passion for writing was waning and Madara held my interest very well (more than any of the other characters tbh, minus Itachi.)

What keeps your inspiration going?  – My partners, new thread ideas especially, when i see new content/art/etc of my muse is a big one. I can see someone draw an au and immediately think of a couple thread ideas based on that. When the content stops coming, it’s hard to write even if I do post a lot of sketches/madara content myself.

Are you a sensitive person?  YES /NO. (Not really, I’ve had to grow quite thick skin to continue writing in this fandom and i’m too stubborn to stop now if someone steps over a couple things. After all, a lot of context is lost through text only messaging. 9/10 times it’s a genuine miscommunication.)

Do you accept criticism well about your portrayal?  – Yes, even if I’m skeptical at first. I can learn from anyone or anything, even if it’s not worded so nicely.

Do you like questions, which help you explore your character?  – !! I love them so much. I love writing about what he would think or do, and basically flesh out headcanons that I already have. It would actually give me an excuse to.

If someone disagrees to a headcanon of yours, do you want to know why?  –  Mmhm. Yes, of course. I would love to know why and what basis they have in the manga or why they think it so. It’s fun to have a healthy debate every once in a while. you know?

If someone disagrees with your portrayal, how would you take it?  – I’d just let it rest and let them have their own opinions about it. Not a big deal to me. 

If someone really hates your character, how do you take it? – I just want to know why. He’s a great character, has had ups and downs, redemption multiple times, etc, so there’s so much to discuss about it. If they hate him they hate him and that’s their business but I’d have to admit that I’m curious why.

What do you wish people wouldn't call you? The only one I don't really like is Girt calling me "kid." He doesn't mean it in a derogatory way or anything like that; he's just always called me that since I was a high school freshman and he was a senior. Now as an adult that's been through things I don't believe anyone deserves, it's kinda weird but more so frustrating as, regardless of his intentions, I somewhat feel belittled. I've never said anything directly about my discomfort, though, so it's my own fault. I just don't want to make him feel bad for doing it for years lmao. What do people say about your name upon learning it for the first time? They don't say anything; my name is very ordinary. Why did you choose the hair length you have? I have a few reasons. The biggest is because I was just bored of average, long hair, and the fact I was at the time having a very hard time with self-care. My hair would get incredibly knotted to where it was hard to even brush it sometimes. Makes me shiver thinking back on it. For my own sanity and ease, it needed to be gone. Also, with how STUPID hot I get, cutting it all off helped with the weight of my hair (it's v thick) but more importantly how hot it made me it the warm months. Zero regrets chopping it all off, omg. If your hair could be ANY color, what would you pick? At this very moment, I really want silver hair. Do you wish your hair was longer or shorter than it is now? It needs a trim. 2. STRANGE FACT ABOUT YOURSELF: I can say the alphabet faster backwards than forwards. I am also a proud BlackBerry user in 2020.

3. TOP THREE PHYSICAL THINGS YOU FIND ATTRACTIVE ON A PERSON: Eyes and smile are the first things I notice. After that I feel like it’s different things I find attractive on a person or reflective on personality.

I genuinely loved what I was doing, where I was working ( the pay was practically minimum wage but it was a job), so I didn’t pay attention to them before, and now I’m literally living in one of the worst areas of my country to find a job, and unable to afford moving to where there’s work.

12. FAVOURITE BOOK: I read a lot so it’s impossible for me to narrow down to one book. The Harry Potter series (specifically Prisoner of Azkaban) will probably be amongst my favourites, especially given it was the first book series that made me love reading. Beastly by Alex Flinn is one of my go-to rereads when I’m looking for something romantic because I really enjoy the way the book is written, and as a girl that often ends up RPing guys, it’s nice to have that “male” type perspective on a romantic relationship. The Immortals Series by Tamora Pierce is also a long-standing favourite.

22. DO YOU PLAY ANY VIDEO GAMES: Yeah, I’m slowly catching up on games while I’m unemployed. Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order is a recent favourite, but I’m super excited about the remaster of FFVII coming out.

23. DREAM JOB:  I don’t like limiting myself which is why I like being a journalist/photojournalist where I get to experience and do a number of different things. That said, if I could do nothing but shoot events for a newspaper - and sadly newspapers don’t employ straight photographers anymore - that would be ideal. Potentially I wouldn’t mind delving into the political realm with behind the scenes stuff, or combine my love for nerdy things with writing/photography and somehow get paid for it. And paid more than just above minimum wage LOL.

24. WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH A MILLION DOLLARS: Buy my dream camera, the Canon ID X, repair the gear I have that needs to go in. I’d look into opening up a viable independent local newspaper for central Alberta that isn’t tied down to a corporate, American-based chain or operating as a political propaganda machine, and once I have some job security, move into a place of my own.

25. FICTIONAL CHARACTER YOU HATE: Athrun Zala. He’s very much a self-righteous character that believes he’s the only one that really knows what’s going on, and the only one who NEEDS to know what’s going on. Much of the friction he created within the Le Creuset Team was as a result of him not letting his teammates know that Kira was a friend and Coordinator piloting the Strike. I believe they would’ve approached battles differently if they had known, and it would’ve eliminated the doubts of Athrun’s leadership when they were searching for the Archangel on Orb, and honestly may have saved Nicol’s life in the end. If he wasn’t so self-righteous, he also wouldn’t have played into Durandal’s hand in Destiny, trust Kira and even Lacus to be on the right side of things, and perhaps even prevented that whole Cagalli-Yuuna situation. He might even actually let one of the many women fawning over him (he honestly doesn’t seem interested in ANY OF THEM, Cagalli included), and let Dearka and Yzak know what was going on in Destiny when they were left in the dark about Durandal’s master plan, and what role the Archangel and Athrun were playing in the war.

I guess what bothers me, too - and it could just be the Dearka in me talking - but he gets preferential treatment a lot. As far as I know, the story is Dearka was demoted for his defection from ZAFT, while Athrun, who defected AFTER Dearka and didn’t even have the balls to return right after the war returned in Destiny and was given back his red coat and a FAITH badge as if he’d never done anything wrong in ZAFT’s eyes....only to pull the same shit again.

Honestly, the man has no direction in life, and is somehow lauded as a hero and exempted from any sort of repercussions of his actions.

26. FANDOM THAT YOU WERE ONCE A PART OF BUT AREN’T ANY LONGER: Voltron. Miriallia-mun and I were both into Voltron when it came out and even cosplayed Hunk and Keith together and it was the best. But as it goes with many fandoms, the show got hijacked by brutal shipping wars where one couldn’t just enjoy the show. The fandom then became really toxic, calling for the creators to be assaulted or worse at conventions, or insinuating they were homophobic because they didn’t make their slash pairing canon. I couldn’t have cared less about ships in the show, and the final season showed some catering to toxic fan pressure and had some poor plot points which honestly left me uninterested in watching the show after the final season.

Wish Come True (Barnaby X OC MC)

(This little short will be based off of the Celestial Ball, and will be written in Barnaby’s POV. Also there may be a little bit of fluff, just a fair warning.)

She wanted to see me.

I had never felt more nervous in my life. After all the decorating and mingling with friends, the last thing I expected was for Clara to say she wanted to meet me alone in the courtyard, and I couldn’t help but think that I messed something up. That’s sometimes what always happens when someone wanted to meet me--they wanted to see me because I botched up something.

Was it something important? I hoped not. I know I wasn’t the nicest to her in the beginning, and she had every right to hate me. What made her warm up to me, I wish I knew. Still, I’m glad she did. The image I had of her at the start greatly differed from the actual person she was--kind, smart, brave, and funny. Not at all like the troublemaker my dad thought she would be, or the mean nasty girl Merula said she was.

Her considerate disposition made me open up to her about my past, and soon I began to trust her. And the way she protected everyone while we were at the Vaults...

She had this light that made her shine so bright--maybe even brighter than the sun.

I barely had time to compose myself at the fountain before she arrived--dressed casually, but looking amazing as always. She was wearing a black cardigan over a white dress shirt, her red and gold Gryffindor tie done somewhat loosely on her neck. She even wore a black skirt with black stockings to match. Even her glasses were polished to a dazzling gleam.

“I botched things up, haven’t I?”

I didn’t even realize I said it aloud until the words were already out of my mouth, leaving her looking very confused on her part.

“Botched up what?” she asked.

Oops. Maybe I shouldn’t have been so quick to jump to conclusions.

“Oh. Usually when someone wanted to see me so quickly, it’s because I’ve botched up something,” I explained to her quickly, hoping that she didn’t see me as daft. “Or they need my help moving something heavy...”

But I could assume neither of those reasons made sense. She didn’t seem like the type to ask me to move something for her right now. And it seemed pretty clear from the get-go that I didn’t botch up anything...

“Well, I came to see you about the Celestial Ball,” Clara said, looking slightly worried. “I don’t have a date yet.”

“Me neither,” I responded thoughtfully. “And the dance begins soon!”

Honestly, though, I should be freaking out. After all, I was the one who asked Professor Dumbledore if it was okay for us to bring dates, and...I only asked him in the hopes that I could ask her. But I had no idea where she was going with this conversation. Did she want me to help her get a date? Maybe she wanted some advice? No, scratch that. I’m rotten at advice.

Still, there wasn’t enough time. What did she want me to do?

“I suppose there is a solution,” Clara chipped in with an expectant smile.

“Is there?” I scratched my head in apprehension. “Crikey, I haven’t a clue.”

For being the brightest person in my family, even I couldn’t see where this was going. Maybe she really wanted me to help her find a date.

“Um...well, you’re not going with anyone, and I’m not going with anyone,” she eventually realized. “So...”

And then it hit me. Of course I wouldn’t have botched anything up for her, and for her to come here to talk to me only meant that, with both of us in the same dateless situation, she wanted us to change that--and not by asking me to help her find a date, but to be her date.

“Blimey, I’ve got it!” I finally cried, jumping up in excitement at the thought that came to mind. “Clara, would you like to go to the Celestial Ball with me?”

I actually felt very honoured that she would come to me with the intentions of me being her date. It felt like a dream come true, and I could see she felt the same way too, the way her face suddenly lit up in genuine joy.

“Yes, I would love to, Barnaby!” she replied excitedly, nodding.

And I felt so relieved, I picked up her and spun her around in the air, earning a surprised yelp from her followed by peals of laughter. Her smile and laughs lifted my spirits so high, I felt like they would forever remain airborne. I eventually brought her down with a smile and hugged her tight.

“I’m so glad the idea of asking you came to me,” I eventually said.

Clara gave a short hum as she hugged me back too. “And I’m glad you asked. We’ll have a great time together!”

“You’ve always been my first choice as a date, Clara,” I confessed as I pulled back to look at her. “But I never really got the nerve to let you know it.”

Clara laughed again and nodded in understanding. “I’ve been really anxious about this dance as well,” she admitted too. “I have no idea what to expect tonight.”

For the rest of the afternoon, we talked a bit about the upcoming dance. I brought her to sit beside me on the fountain’s ledge, and we chatted and laughed the entire time. I couldn’t stop looking at her, though. Something about her really drew me to her--to me, she was like a star in the sky, the first star I would ever see in the early evening. And she was beautiful without even trying. Even without her robes on, she still looked radiant.

I felt like I was responsible now for keeping her light aglow. Even back in the Vault of Fear, I vowed that I would protect her no matter what--as long as I know she’d do the same for me too.

“I could talk about this all night!” Clara eventually said, her face still alight with joy in the setting sun. “But we really have to go get ready.”

I nodded as I walked her to the entrance of the castle, smiling at her. I already had an outfit picked out, but I had to give her time to pick hers. From what I heard, Andre was preparing her dress, and I would admit, I was very excited to see it.

“I even prepared a freshly picked ‘buccaneer’!” I told her with a grin. “But I can’t wait to see your outfit.”

“I’m sure Andre’s waiting for me in the Great Hall right now with my options,” Clara chirped. “I can’t wait to see them. And I can’t wait to see you tonight.”

She stood on slight tiptoe and left me a light kiss on the cheek before heading back into the castle, leaving me standing there in awe.

The party was already in full swing by the time I arrived, wearing a nice red coat with a rose ‘buccaneer’ to match. As I glanced around, I saw Tonks and Tulip socializing by one of the dinner tables, and Rowan and Ben looking rather at ease with themselves as they helped themselves to drinks. Penny was floating around the room like a fairy, with her light yellow skirt fluffing all around her as she looked at the dance and the success that came with her leading the Decorating Committee. I chuckled at the sight myself; I was happy I did a little bit to help with the decorations that hung around the Great Hall. Even Merula and Ismelda looked a bit less “scowly”.

“Wow, Barnaby. Nice outfit!” Andre complimented me as he waved me over. “The colour really suits you.”

“Hey, Andre. Thank you!” I beamed. “How did the outfit selection go for Clara, by the way?”

“Oh, she was stuck in a dress stall for quite a bit of time. I gave her 3 options, with different hairstyles and jewellery and shoes--but she was stuck between 2 of them. It was funny seeing her muttering to herself about which outfit she wanted,” Andre told me with a laugh. “But she eventually chose one, and it’s a stunner, I’ll tell you that.”

I laughed at the story as well. I never thought of Clara to be one of the extremely picky ones, but it was understandable; she wanted to remember this night as much as anyone. “Well, I can’t wait to see her in her dress,” I eventually said. “If only I know where she is.”

“She probably won’t be that late, but she’ll run a bit behind, I know that. For someone to look stunning, they do have to take some time--and believe me, I know,” Andre said. “At least you’re enjoying yourself, am I right?”

“That, I am,” I agreed with him with a nod.

Andre only had a bit of time to shoot me a quick grin before he was called away by Professor McGonagall, and I was left to wander around the Great Hall for a bit. As I eventually passed by Ismelda, who was standing by the corner of the dance floor with a contemplative look on her face, I heard her voice addressing Hagrid.

“I do have a date!” she was saying. “But finding and keeping track of a date in a room this size is harder than I thought.”

Just as Hagrid suggested he’d look for me, I eventually approached her, eyes widening at the sight of her dress.

She looked like she was wearing the entire evening sky. Her dress was sleek and elegant, and the stars twinkled and shone over the dark navy blue fabric showing constellations and shapes that could only be seen by few in the night. Her glasses were off, leaving a lot more room to see the twinkle in her dark brown eyes. Her black hair, normally either let down or tied in a ponytail, was carefully styled in a bun at the back of her head, secured with a purple headband with a star at the centre. 

She had never looked more radiant.

“Clara!” I addressed her. “I’ve been looking all over for you!”

She turned to me and grinned. “Barnaby, you look really handsome!” she said then. “Your ‘buccaneer’ is quite nice.”

“Thanks. I almost stabbed myself pinning it on,” I admitted with a laugh. “And look at your outfit! Brilliant!” I then took her hand and gave a little motion with my head. “Now let’s enjoy this dance together.”

Clara seemed to welcome this idea openly with a nod, and soon we made our way to the dance floor. All around us we could see everyone having fun, either grabbing food or socializing with the teachers. To my surprise, Bill was there too, chatting with Rowan now by the fireplace--I assume he came in while I was chatting with Andre. The music was very lighthearted and eventually got me swaying to the beat, and I could see Clara’s eyes wandering about the room, clearly soaking in all of its beauty.

“I didn’t know what to expect tonight,” she eventually said with a soft smile. “All of the planning, and prepping, and fretting...but tonight has been quite special.”

I agreed with her. It truly has been quite a night overall.

“And I think Tonks is right,” she also said. “Of our friends, we’re the only ones here who decided to bring a guest!”

“I take all the credit for it!” I said with a grin. “Remember I was the one who asked Dumbledore if we could bring dates?”

“When Dumbledore first announced the Ball? I remember,” Clara nodded.

“I asked because even then, I was hoping you’d be my date for tonight,” I eventually admitted.

Now that was enough for Clara’s cheeks to turn pink, and I felt a little shy all of a sudden too. Still, I felt the smile widen on my face as I looked at her, trying to read her expression. Was she happy? She definitely looked like it. I was just happy she was my date for the ball--and even happier I got the idea to ask her.

Eventually, before we knew it, students began to head to the dance floor, and soon we started to dance. The entire time, I couldn’t keep my eyes off of Clara. She was like the star of the dance floor, shining among the other students. As the music began to slow down, some of the students began to retire from the event, but there were still some others who stayed behind.

I looked at Clara and eventually pulled her into a hug as a slow song began to play. We swayed along to the music, and I could hear her hum again in happiness.

I smiled as I held her, and lightly kissed the top of her head. 

She was my wish come true, and I couldn’t be happier.

001. What is your proudest accomplishment of this year? - Getting to make a speech about the power of body image at the Glamour Women of the Year Summit. As proud as I am of Riverdale (and I’m extremely proud), I have always wanted to use my voice for something useful. I’ve struggled with body acceptance my whole life, always self-conscious about my skin or thighs or boobs and it was only with the support from my family and friends that I finally learned how to become comfortable in my own body. Society and the media can be very damaging to young women and men’s self-esteem as they grow throughout the years and I wanted to use my platform to promote loving yourself for exactly who you are, imperfections and all. I’ve always tried to be genuine and true to myself and to get to be able to speak to so many people..well, it was truly a honor and I try to set an example everyday of what it means to love your body and your soul.

002. What is the biggest life lesson you learned this year? - I have the power to take control of how people make me feel. I don’t have to read the hateful comments. I don’t have to watch the videos insulting me and my friends just for them to get views. I can block people and turn away from spiteful people who think they have the right to talk about my life. I don’t owe anything anybody and the only person I should be trying to impress is myself. The minute I stopped caring about what people thought of me and started to live for myself, to make myself happy, is the minute a million of worries flitted away and I felt myself relaxing. I only get one life and I intend to live it the way I see fit.

003. What is one relationship (can be friendship) that has helped you survive this year? - I’m going to be predictable with this answer, but how can I say anybody but Cole @coleffs ? He’s truly been my rock. Not only in the sense of being there from day one of stepping into this crazy industry to learn how to handle the pressures that come with fame, but he’s also always been one hundred percent genuine with me. I’ve never had to be anyone but myself with him and to feel that love from him, to see how much he cared about me with no frills, no glitter, no pretending really helped me to also love myself even more. He’s taught me a lot - how to appreciate life a little deeper, how to take not take myself so seriously when I can get caught up in the little things, how to be patient and breathe when I feel myself trembling in fear of not living up to my potential. He sees the best in me, always and for that, he’s helped me to open myself up so many experiences. Falling in love is the scariest thing you can ever do and yet with him, he made is so easy and effortless. Cole’s been there through late nights, early mornings, crazy outings, quiet walks, and wild chaos and I’ve never seen him as anything other than imperfectly perfect. He’s truly my soul mate and the love of my life and I’d be lost without him.

004. Who or what do you need to let go of in order to make next year even better than this year? - I’m definitely going to focus less on social media and getting caught up in the drama that comes with comments and unwanted opinions, and focus more on the support that comes from the people I love. I also think I need to be more reckless - not in a bad way, but stop thinking about so much what will happen if I don’t make a certain decision and start thinking about what I could gain if I do.

005. What did you do this year that you’ve never done before? - Where do I start? Gone to Hawaii. Rode in a hot air balloon. Flew in a helicopter over mountains and had a picnic a thousand feet in the air. Was on a television soundtrack. I’m a very lucky girl.

006. What are three resolutions or goals you want to make happen next year? - 1) Bring Addy out to LA more, 2) Do more little things for Cole to surprise him, and 3) Try to get more product and business deals about ideas I support and care about.

007. Where did most of your money go this year? - Without a doubt, junk food and skin care products.

008. What song will always remind you of this year? - Can’t Help Falling in Love by Kina Grannis.

009. How will you be spending the last day of this year? - I think my friend Austyn and I are going on a little trip, but I’m not sure yet! I’ve yet to really set anything in stone.

010. Who is the best new person you’ve met this year? - Haley and Kiernan! They’ve really become two of my newest sisters. @hqhaleyluhoo & @keekshipka

001. What relationship (can be friendship) has been the most fun to write for your muse/s this year? - For Lili, writing SH with Vic has been incredibly sweet and I’m grateful she was willing to keep their relationship and that she’s stuck with me this long. I’m always waiting with bated breath for really amazing ship partners to drop me but she’s never made me feel anything less than wanted and appreciated, so it just makes the ship that much more precious to me. As for friendships, I always get a kick out of Lili/Saoirse. @irishxseahorse has such a great sense of humor and never fails to make me laugh.

For Keegan, the Treegan relationship wasn’t really a surprise but I was happy with how naturally it developed. You don’t always have chemistry even if your fc’s do in real life but Emily has been such a perfect Troian. Seeing as how I’ve played Troian for the majority of my RP years, I’m very picky with how people play her and Em fits the bill. ;) I love that it’s not rushed, it’s going at a very easy and natural pace, and how willing Emily always is to talk to me and to keep my muse high with cute muse inspo. And for friendships, Keegan/Lizzie! @ohlizzo Be prepared for 2019, Sadie. Keegan’s gonna worm his way into Lizzie’s heart.

And on Munro, I’ve been lucky enough to sort of ship with Vic again with Munro/Cristine. We decided to give them a shot and I love the messy friends with benefits plot. I can’t wait to focus on them more and hopefully do more with them next year. I also really love Munro and Natalia’s friendship. @itsnataliadyr Eena is the actual sweetest and I adore how immediately playful their interactions became. I always look forward to replying to her and love her Natalia.

002. In what ways do you connect to your muse/s? - Out of all of them, I think I connect to Lili the most not only because she’s the only female muse, but also because we’re both fellow Virgos. I’m a big astrology nerd and I believe your sign impacts your personality so I feel like she’s a kindred spirit to me in a way. She’s definitely as impulsive with her words as I am and we both share the same sense of humor. With Keegan, I relate deeply to his sensitivity and his love for cats because I am the biggest cat lady and would have a million cats if I could. He also wears his heart on his sleeve and I do too. And with Munro..he’s probably the muse I have the least in common with but we do share a love for geekdom so that’s fun!

003. What’s your favorite category to write for your muse/s? (angst, fluff, smut, etc.) - I haven’t been able to write much smut here because not everybody is comfortable writing it (which is totally cool) but smut & angst is probably my favorite to write because I feel like that’s where I shine. I don’t know what that says about me but..Those are my top two categories where I get the most compliments on my writing. Obviously fluff is great and we all know I can wax on forever with mushy and sappy stuff..

004. If you could give your muse/s one gift, what would you give them? - I can’t afford anything for them, but if I could, I’d give her the Chipotle black card because she seems to really want it. Or a sponsorship by Dominos. I’d also love to give her a big hug and tell her how much I admire her, and how much her words mean to me. It’s so nice to be a fan of a woman who isn’t afraid to speak her mind and who promotes loving yourself and not being ashamed if you’re a little different from everyone else.

For Keegan, I’d give him notebooks and demand he write more songs and scripts and cast Troian in all of them. I’d also give him another kitten friend because who doesn’t want more kittens?

And for Munro, I’d beg him to get Instagram just so I can know what he’s up to! Seriously though, Munro seems like a simple guy but I’d give him Lion King tickets and then make him go with me so I can hide in his arms when Mufasa dies. NOT READY, NEVER READY.

005. What was your favorite event/moment/memory in HollywoodlandHQ this year? - Is it cheesy if I say when we opened? I was really excited and so proud and I felt like I finally crossed something off my bucket list. I wanted a safe place for the people I loved to create and write. I also loved the Halloween event! Anything a little spooky, I love. 

006. What muse/s have you enjoyed most seeing on this dash this year? - Lizzie is one of my favorites simply because I think Sadie writes her perfectly, and I always love seeing my ship partners on the dash because my stomach gets all fuzzy and I know good things are gonna happen.

007. What is your favorite thing your muse/s have done this year in the group? (can be in the real world or what you made up) - For Lili, it’s been the gift of all the pictures she’s released. She’s gorgeous, she’s real, and I love all the content she blesses us with. I’m also so proud of her work on Riverdale this year. She stepped up her game.

Keegan hasn’t done much but Million Miles Away was a jam and his podcast was great! In the group, I obviously was happy when he finally kissed Troian. ;) @itstbellisario

And Munro seems to have booked a lot of new projects so I’m excited for them to come out. His performance in Knuckleball is INCREDIBLE and just proves how good of an actor he is.

008. What would you like to see in HollywoodlandHQ in 2019? - Apart from events that pair up people who don’t interact much (which seems to be the biggest want), I’d love more themed events. I’d love supernatural!week, AU!week, holiday events, even more events like the earthquake that affects the whole group and not a select group of people. I also love when memes are done, even if we still need to improve on everyone playing them fairly. Memes that set up plots and help further IC drama will be worked on too. And obviously, I really want the group to keep growing! 

009. What is a plot you would love to do with your muse/s? - I’d love to do something dramatic with Lili - she’s clearly got a steady head on her shoulders and I don’t want to make her too OOC, but writing her struggle with something whether that be a relationship with somebody or with herself would be great with character development. 

With Keegan, I’m excited to work out his growing relationship with Troian. I can’t wait to write out all the beginnings of a ship and see what comes from it.

And with Munro, I’d really just like him to have more connections. I’d love to see more Degrassi fc’s in the group but also get him involved with more people. He’s a really goofy guy and he’s also loyal af, so he’d be great for friendship plots. Also, him developing something with Cristine and maybe fucking it up a little would be good drama!

010. Tag somebody in the RP and say something nice about them. It’s the season of giving. - To my fellow admins @diannahq, @elizajanetc, @itsgenevievegnt, @ohlizzo, @sebffs and @hcurly - I love you. I appreciate you SO much. You guys do tireless (and sometimes thankless) work to make this place running and an accepting place for everybody. Thanks for the Discord chats, the support for real life and roleplay, and always willing to step up and make this the greatest damn group in the game.

I knew you were trouble: Part One

A/N: So I’m trying to figure out a way to realistically incorporate all of these characters lol. There’s going to be times when you don’t like them; because let’s be real, they did grow up in this pretty shifty world.

Also, I’m trying to find my bearings writing Carter and ughhhh, he’s hard lol

Word Count: 3k

Warnings: As with all of my stories there’s a permanent warning of cursing. I have a mouth like a sailor and express myself through the word fuck. Underage drinking.

Summary: Y/N Bass had always liked to think of herself as different- but when it comes to Carter Baizen she gets played just like the rest. Between a life changing mistake and the trials of first heartbreak, she has so much growing up to do, she wonders how she can possibly be expected to raise a child without it being just as fucked up as she is.

You don’t know why you choosing to go to Caroline’s party is such a big fucking deal.

But it is.

You receive shit from it on all ends. Adrian tries, weakly and in vain, to convince you that you should at least make an appearance at Blair’s to which you shrug and tell him “Nah, it’s the principle of the situation- fuck her”

And he groans and throws himself back on his bed because he knew you- knew just how stubborn you were.

When Saturday night rolls around, you stand in your vast closet, your body sucked into lacy shapewear that smooth’s over your rolls nd leaves your middle cinched in. You cant decide what exactly to wear and you gnaw on your lip as you toss clothes haphazardly in your wake. When your phone chirps from its place on the counter of one of your shoe racks, you’re expecting it to be Mika(who’s late, and who’s hair you were supposed to do). You grimace as you take in the caller I.D.

Mother fu-

“Hi Chuck” You force yourself to answer it.

“Cousin” Is all he gives you in greeting “Please tell me you’ve reevaluated your life choices and are coming to Blair’s tonight”

You’d always found the way he talked equally as annoying as it was interesting. That pretentious jerk.

“My life choices don’t need reevaluating, thanks. And no- I’m not going to that party so fuck off” You inform him, only half paying attention. You phone sandwiched between your ear and your shoulder as you fingered through the racks of clothes.

“Y/N” The way he says your name is serious, as though you’d committed a real crime and it makes you bark out a laugh.

“Charles” You reply, deepening your voice to tease him right back. There were a lot of people who didn’t have the balls to jest with your cousin, to proke and prod at him- you weren’t one of them. You listen to his almost convincing lulls, rolling you eyes more then once in the duration of the conversation. Blah, Blah, Bass’ stick together in social situations. Blair’s my girlfriend and she’s expecting you there, blah, blah.

“Welp, looks like you’re all just going to have to miss my presence tonight”

“You’re really skipping this to go to a Baizens party. I cant believe you” The way he spits out the name Baizen- the vehement hate is almost scary. You knew he hated Carter, if only because of the brief tryst he’d had with Blair, but jeeze. This was intense. See? Men are just as petty an jealous and grudge holding as anyone.

“Caroline’s nice”

“You don’t even know her”

“I do! She wrote a few papers for me last year. I graduated because of her”

He scoffs “You’re one of the smartest people I know, if you hadn’t been so god damn lazy last year you wouldn’t have needed people to do your homework for you”

You couldn’t argue that, so you didn’t.

“What ever. Fuck off, I’m still not going” You say instead, as you decide on a body con green skirt. You can hear the jingle of your door being opened and then Mika hollering

“Honey, I’m home”

“I’m taking this as a personal act of betrayal” Chuck digresses and it sets you off into another bout of laughter.

“You are such a drama queen, shut up”

Mika walks into your closet and you hold up a finger, silently telling her to wait a second.

‘Who is it?’ She mouths.

'Chuck’ You mouth back and she just grins and nods and makes her way out of the closet and into your apartment, as though she owns the place. as though she was a permenant resident. Which she pretty much was.

There’s a bit more of a argument, a back and forth like there always is between the two of you, before he can tell that you’re dead serious. He tells you to have fun with your new family, his voice voice not malicious though- and then that he’d save you a drink just incase you came to your senses.

“I’ll keep that in mind. Have fun tonight, loser. Be safe”

“You too”

And then there was the click of him hanging up. You know it didn’t seem affectionate, but it was. It was the way that you two had always communicated with eachother, you’re on personal language of sorts.

You find Mika sitting cross legged on your bed, a bong as big as her torso in her lap as she takes long drags from it. “Help me with my hair before I just decide to shave my head” She says around coughs as she offers you the bong, your own bong, as a token and you laugh and tell her to meet you in your bathroom. What would she do without you.

You’d always lived your life a little more then casually late, so its no surprise that you and your friends are over an hour late to Carolines party. Adrian, ever the snarker, says she’s lucky that you guys had decided to show at all. That earns him a hard elbow to the side from you. The hotel that she was throwing it in was nice, extravagant, and you’re struck once more by just how loaded the Baizens were. Old money, ancient money. And lots of it.

“Oh this is so sad” comes Mika’s quiet mutter as you enter the event room- it was decorated impeccably. Gorgeous and modern, the only lighting coming from pretty strings of fairy lights and neon fixtures set up around the room…but even in the dim lighting, you could see that there were no more then twenty people scattered around the large room.

“This shit is more then sad- this is tragic. It’s so dead in here, it looks like the hospital that guy wakes up in in 28 days later” Adrian whispers, his eyes wide with genuine shock at the state of this party.

Poor Caroline…

You’re just about to suggest you guys find the bar, and start to drain it when the girl herself comes up to you.

“Y/N” She sounds so happy, so astonished that you were actually there that you had to fight your face from turning into a frown. You don’t want her to think you’re pitying her. “Oh my gosh, you came!”

“Yeah, I RSVP’d last week” You reach over to give her a short hug “This place looks amazing! You have to give me the number to your decorator!”

Even Adrian, who does have a heart by the way, forces himself to smile and be cheery when the girl greets him. He doesn’t hug though- Adrian’s very picky on who he makes body contact and even though he’s trying to be nice, the most Carolines going to get is a pat on the shoulder. Mika’s still high as a kite from earlier and throws her arms around the younger girl overbearingly.

“Happy Birthday!” She cheers with a dopey grin.

“Oh, it um- isn’t my birthday” Caroline corrects her and Mika’s eyebrows pinch.

“Really? Then why is there a cake?” Mika points out as though it explained every in asked question in the universe.

“Let them eat cake, Meeks” You say cheekily and she gives you a sideways crook of her eye. She’s more then aware of your obsession with Marie Antionette. You’d always felt a spiritual connection to her, you explain. You also could put a country in debt with your shopping habits.

“Wise words to live by” Carter Baizen never made an easy entrance. Something about his…fucking being just tended to make his mere presence impactful. Big. Noticeable.

Well that and the fact that he was drop dead fucking gorgeous. You cant deny that. Even though you think he’s a piece of trash.

You give him a small, forced smile in response.

Of course he notices. He knows he’s not your favorite person- he remembered you having to help bail Nate out of that whole gambling thing he’d roped the younger man into…and he’d stolen from your brother…

No matter.

That didn’t mean the two of you couldn’t be friends, right?

For the rest of the night he seems to make that his personal mission; if only to get back at Chuck somehow in his mind.

You won’t have it though. Yes, you’d come for Caroline. You’d come to be a decent person, to have a clear conscious. But that was it. This wasn’t some white flag being waved. The Bass’ and Baizens had never gotten along and you were there to change that.

Especially not after what he had done to Nate.

You were only human, and of course you not only heard, but partook in the gossip that ran among the maze of socialites over the years. You knew knew enough about him to want to keep him at arms length.

He was goregous, but he was pure trouble. And you were trying to be different.

So, even though Carter attempted to make small talk, offered you and your friends drinks, and acted like a funny, charming human being- you were far from convinced.

You let the conversation pass to Mika and Adrian, well mostly Adrian who was flirting with him openly.

You didn’t think Carter swung that way, but you also didn’t think Adrian cared. He was one hell of a flirt.

You’d been to better parties before, forsure, but this one wasn’t the worst you’d ever attended. You frequented luncheons for Christ sakes. At least this one wasn’t filled with snooty tooty old people who were just dying to kill your buzz.

Which was fluctuating pretty steadily. You’d been dancing, with a constant drink in your hand since a few hours ago. You’d had four vodka crans when you decided you needed to step outside, get a deep breath of fresh air to center yourself. You let your friends know as you slide past them. Adrian’s twerking on Caroline and Mikas doing something that looks similar to the hula.

The air is crisp and just on the right side of cool when you step out into one of the balconies. You inhale deeply and try to sort through your tipsy mind. Everything feels good, as you stare out at the lights you feel weightless. Even the ever present pinch of your heels is on the back burner.

And then…you feel eyes. The same cat like gaze you’d caught on you various times throughout the night.

“You’re a real creep, you know?” You state as you turn around and half glare at the culprit.

Carter just gives that devilish, crooked grin of his.

“I’ve been called worse” he shrugs as he joins you at the ledge your leaning on.

Hah, you bet.

“You feeling okay? I just came to check on you” at that you give him a disbelieving look.

Whatever.

Your eyes, so expressive and clear, portray what your thinking and it just makes him grin harder.

“Thanks” you don’t sound very thankful though.

“You hate me, right?” Carter wonders bluntly, figuring he might as well put it all out there on the table. He’s had a few drinks himself.

“No, Carter. I don’t hate you” he’s only pleasantly surprised for a second before you continue “I literally don’t have any energy to spend on you. That’s how little you mean to me”

Well damn.

He hadn’t been expecting that one.

You don’t even look at him as your ice cold words hit him, no, you just stare at the skyline. And he stares at the side of your face. At the way the shadows play tricks with your eyelashes.

“Well, no matter how you feel about me, I appreciate you coming tonight. I really do” Carter coughs before he starts , he felt the need to thank you. Even though he wondered why exactly you had come.

You just nod “I know what it’s like to have assholes in your family- it’s not fair to get the backlash for that” you mutter.

His eyes, peircing and gray, make you want to squirm. The intensity in them is palpable.

“Stop staring at me, Baizen” you tell him, shooting him a sideways look and in retrospect, he thinks that’s the exact moment he realized he wanted to know you better.

“So tell me about yourself, little Bass. It’s been a while”

You fight the urge to gag dramatically.

“Nothing to tell really”

“You graduated last year, right?”

“Yup”

“You’ve been up to anything interesting since?”

“Nope”

He can’t help but get a little frustrated. You’re really shutting him down, not even subtly. Carter didn’t respond well to being shrugged off.

He lets out a humorless chuckle.

“You always this difficult?”

“Yup” you pop the p, put give him a small, amused smile.

You then sigh, maybe it was the drinks, but that little but of disappointment in his face breaks you “I um- took over my moms cosmetic company”

Carter nods and chews on that, trying to figure out how to tread lightly with this topic “Yeah, I heard she passed last year, her and your uncle…my condolences”

You just give him a hollow “thanks” before quickly changing the subject, wanting to get as far away from discussions of dead mothers and family curses as you could.

That night you learned Carter had spend months living in Youth Hostels; from Egypt to Greece and everywhere in between. You’d learned that he’d helped build huts in villages and paraglided in Brazil. You discovered that the two of you shared a morbid, yet almost dorky sense of humor and that maybe, just maybe you didn’t understand why everyone seemed to hate him so much. You’d stayed out on that balcony with him for what felt like hours, until Mika came looking for you claiming that

“Adrian took one too many jäger shots, time to bounce before he gets really sick. You know him, his puking would probably end up all over Twitter again”

You’d detached yourself from the conversation, said your goodbyes and walked away. Thinking that was the end of it.

As you felt that gaze on your back, you should have known that it was just the beginning.

As you sit in bed later that night, the dawn on the horizon outside your window you scroll through your phone. Mika’s asleep on her stomach on one side of you, and Adrian’s arm is slung across your waist and his head pillowed on your breast, on the other. A usaul position for the three of you at the end of a wild night.

When you opened up your Instagram app you couldn’t help the way you tensed up, surprised…thrilled. Carter Baizen had added you as a friend and hearted five or more of your pictures. Selfies. Ones of you dolled up and hitting all of your angles. Your stomach twists and a treacherous smile spreads across your face.

After a couple seconds you force yourself to click off of your phone, to reach over and toss it onto the bedside table. To force all giddy, stupid thoughts of Carter out of your head.

Don’t be an idiot, you chide yourself.

You wish you would have listened.

Okay so I’m going to be messing with the timeline of GG. I’ll be taking elements and events from the show, but kind of twisting them and making them my own. If that’s not your cup of tea, this ones probably not for you.

And okay, some back ground on this reader; Her mother was a Bass; Bart and Jacks sister. We’ll get more into her death later , and her father maybe, just might pop up in later chapters.

            as a precursor to what this post is about,  this is not only a guide of how i catalog jerry’s behavior but also what you might come to expect when throwing your muse at him,  WHICH I ENCOURAGE YOU TO DO.    HOWEVER, no muse,  unless we’ve talked about it and they know about jerry,  will know these do’s and don’ts.    but you will know and you can do any of the don’ts just to see how the situation will pan out!!    again,  this post is just for my own personal desire.    if we can get something from it and love it,  then amazing.

DO NOT

approach jerry randomly:  he’s a predator.    plain and simple.    not that this shit won’t happen,  any meeting with him will be very random unless he has it otherwise.    but if your character approaches jerry randomly,  a few things can happen.    one of them is that if he’s interested in your character,  expect him to attempt to feed off of them or try to just in general fuck with them/their lives.    he likes playing with people.    he’s been undead for over four hundred years,  so he has his fun when he can.    another thing that might happen is that if he dislikes your character,  expect him to try to kill them just to cut out the irritation.

invite him into an occupied home:  i’m gonna be picky here with what vampire rules he abides to because i don’t want it to be so heavily hinged to the christian religion.    but this i’m going to stick with.    a part of the vampiric curse is that any home that is occupied,  by a person whether it’s through legal means or not,  he can’t under unless he’s invited in.    WHICH IS NOT A GOOD THING.    once you give him invitation,  you can’t revoke it and he can come and go as he wants.    meaning he will come and feed and go if he wants to.    and best case scenario,  if he likes your character and doesn’t want to kill or turn them,  you’re never gonna be rid of him.

shove a cross in his face:  cause that does jack shit.    this is something that happens in the movie,  that crosses repel vampires and if he touches it,  it catches on fire.    though only if the person who set them up or is holding it believes in the christian god.    but i’m just gonna get rid of that because i prefer vampires to not be religion centered unless the vampire is religious themselves.    the vampire i can think of that fits this best is pron.sias cassidy,  hates religion for the people that corrupt it but could dance around in a church with crosses draped over his body if he wanted to.    so just don’t do that to jerry or he’s gonna take that cross and smack you with it.

splash holy water on him:  ANOTHER THING I’M GETTING RID OF.    just as i mentioned before,  don’t wanna do the religion centered vampire.    though it did burn his face off and cause him to regenerate it in the movie,  i’m tossing it out the window here.    splash him with holy water and he’ll spit out whatever gets in his mouth and just smack a bitch.

stake him:  for those hunters or those just wanting to get rid of him,  i’m not saying you CAN’T.    i’m just saying that if you don’t get him right in the heart on the first time,  he’s gonna take no time at all tearing throats out and ripping heads off.    so if you’re gonna stake him,  get it right or don’t try unless you’re ready to face the consequences.

LET HIM FEED:  again,  this is not something i’m saying won’t or should not happen,  but here’s what happens when he does.    feeding in and of itself is a very sensual act.    it not only sates him but it’s pleasurable as well,  and he tends to deal with it one of three ways.    if he just wants to feed and not deal with the pleasurable part,  he feeds and kills with no hesitation.    if he’s feeling particularly horrible,  he’ll feed and turn who he’s feeding from.    and if he likes your character and doesn’t want to turn them,  expect things to go...    well,  just come visit me and my mind as we dwell in the gutter.    IT WILL NEVER BE NONCONSENSUAL,  and if he’s feeding from someone he wants to keep alive and doesn’t turn,  and they show resistance,  he just stops and gets broody and irritated if he has to shelve the pleasure when he doesn’t want to.

TRUST HIM:  last but not least,  and though i could probably think of much more than what i wrote,  DO NOT TRUST HIM WHATSOEVER.    he’s not only a predator,  but he’s a manipulator.    it takes him a while to actually be able to trust or warm up to someone and allow them to stay in his life.    and when i say a while,  i mean we’re gonna have to do a lot of plotting before he develops feelings.    albeit he is lonely because he’s basically been alone for multiple centuries,  but he also hates people in general.    JERRY IS A FULL BLOWN MISANTHROPE.    so unless your character becomes an exception in some way,  shape,  or form,  he’s gonna find some way to use them or gain entertainment from them.

DO

be very wary or aware of him:  as stated before,  he’s a predator and a manipulator.    at any chance he gets,  he could do whatever he wants to your character and have so much fun doing it.    so be on the lookout for seemingly altruistic or caring moments from him because THEY ARE NOT GENUINE unless he’s truly let them into his life.    and if that happens,  he’ll be more likely to distance himself a lot first before actually being caring and like them.    so just be extremely aware of the shit he’s capable of doing.    don’t let your muse know about it if they don’t know him,  but don’t go hating on me or anything if he does shit.    this is how he is.

give him apples:  specifically granny smiths.    this is where i start to get into the stuff where your muse/character can do this if they know him well enough and for a while.    unlike how some vampires can’t eat or drink regular food,  jerry can.    and he doesn’t have any problem with digesting or anything as long as he’s fed recently.    otherwise it just gives him an upset stomach or makes him incredibly uncomfortable.    but no matter what,  provide him a decent supply of granny smiths.    they’re bitter and gross on their own,  at least to me,  but he loves them for some fucked up reason.

give him garlic:  and again we get to what scotch does and does not allow with vampires.    GARLIC IS A-OKAY to some extent.    he like eating foods with a bit of garlic in it just because he actually likes the taste.    but there’s something in the garlic that slows down his metabolism and makes him a bit...   slower in general.    but he still likes the food.    just don’t give him anything in big quantities or he gets bitchy.

give him alcohol:  SAME THING HERE.    he likes drinking,  though tends to drink pisswater beer more than anything else.    every so often he’ll like a good glass of whisky but it slows him down and fucks up his system and metabolism until it’s out of his system.    because of that,  he sticks with pisswater beer like bud and heineken because it’s got a low alcohol content and cheap.

provide him with blood:  if your character is one he’s interested in,  don’t feed him straight from the vein if it can be avoided.    DEAD BLOOD IS BAD BLOOD so he can’t feed from those already dead.    but packaged blood,  such as from a hospital or blood bank is fine.    it doesn’t do him as much as fresh blood does.    it makes him a bit slower,  not as strong,  and he actually needs to sleep when he sticks to packaged blood for a while.    but he’s easier to handle than on fresh.

provide him with emotional comfort:  JERRY IS AN EMOTIONALLY CONSTIPATED VAMPIRIC ASSHOLE.    which means he’s just a bastard who has lived too long and does not trust or like people in general.    that does not mean he’s completely void of human emotions.    he has them,  and,  again,  it takes a long while for him to really display them.    but this monster can be more humane if you just work at him.    give him a reason to keep someone around,  reason to open up and become comfortable,  and he will change.    it just takes a lot of time,  work,  and patience.

Ivor’s an odd one.

The same way monsters notappearing at night, or a creeper asking her to come in for tea instead ofblowing her to bits, would be odd.

Petra’s not really sure what tomake of him.

(He has a place in the temple, afully furnished lab and a room, and still he keeps a house of his own in town.

A home made by him, surrounded bypeople ready and fully capable of hating him.

He’s stubborn, and maybe dumberthan she thought, but she’s not complaining when it means a warm place to stopby on her way to the temple when he wants some help with his stock. He getshelps with the heavy lifting, she gets a warm drink, ideally everybody wins.

She never thought she’d ever bein any ideal situations with him.)

After what he did, what he’stried and never meant to do, it’s hard to imagine him doing anything but tryingto cause more trouble, or simply fading all together. He’s gotten his revenge,for better or worse, and part of her wonders what he has left to live for, withhow obsessed it sounds like he was. She knows that’s not how people work, butshe also doesn’t think he had any back up plan either. As if he never believedany plan of his would work, even if the Witherstorm still went horribly wrong.

(The wind outside is biting,snapping, cold and sharp and unrelenting.

The fire is warm and loud andcrackling, swaying and twisting flames soothing to work to and by.

No matter what Ivor likes to say,Petra’s not a fool. And he has tea.

She comes inside.)

If it wasn’t for Jesse, if Jessehadn’t insisted Ivor was welcome with them and they’d appreciate any advice ofhis, Petra doesn’t know where he’d be. She’s not sure if she can trust him halfthe time, and she knows it wouldn’t be a question if Jesse didn’t vouch for himthe way she does.

It doesn’t help that he seems sohuman, now that he isn’t trying to kill them or creating world ending monsters.

Part of her still firmly believeshe shouldn’t be able to try. The person who made her so sick, who ended upterrifying and scarring countless people and nearly razing the world to nothingbut bedrock through just an ‘accident’, shouldn’t be so easy to see as human.

Past all the grumbling, gruffwords, and snappiness, though, and even under the thicker, musty stench ofnether wart and clinging smoke, there’s still a person.

Maybe it’s bothering that heactually had a motive, that there was a genuine reason behind the wholedisaster that led to heartbreak and nightmares. Petra likes to think it wouldbe much worse if it had all been for nothing, but hasn’t it, in the end? Ivorgot his revenge, showed the world who had lied to them, but at the cost ofsomeone who had been his friend, never mind at the cost of Reuben, Jesse’sability to really be care-free and not always worry about everybody else first,and countess people’s senses of safety.

It’s easier to hate the personwho caused it all, accidentally or otherwise, than the already defeated anddestroyed monstrosity of a storm, but it was all just a horrible mistake on hispart.

(And how much would he have beenable to do without that third skull?)

Can she blame him, reallyhonestly blame him, when she knows what she knows, knows the part she playedherself, when she’s seen the lengths he’s gone through to make it up to people?She’d like to think so, but it’s hard to blame Ivor in the same way that itcould be easy to hate him.

Villains don’t just pop upout of nowhere.

And Ivor, unlike most easilyhate-able people, actually cleaned up his mess and helped them fix things up,and it’s not like she can fault his original motivation for doing what he did,even if trying to control a wither definitely wasn’t his smartest move.

He was part of the Order once.Until they cheated, lied, and kicked him out, erasing him from the story whilethey got famous and he got bitter.

The thought alone stings.

Petra’s new, to having a team tobe a part of.

But losing them? Being pushedaway not only from, but by her friends?

She doesn’t like how scared thethought makes her.

Being alone has never been anightmare before. It’s just been the way things have always been for her, andgetting used to being part of a group, a group of people she actually likes andbeing she’s friends with, not to mention used to the mere idea that she mightlike this so much more than she does always being a loner, changes that.

So it makes him relatable, in away that’s actually kind of scary to admit.

And all of that, every human bitand terrible thing and attempt at being a better person, is all wrapped up in acurmudgeon of an alchemist.

He’s definitely one of a kind.

Given that he’s also one of thehardest people to figure out, and Petra’s gotten as good at that as she is attrading, that’s a good thing. It’s unnerving, seeing so many sides to oneperson, especially somebody who’s done what he did, and while Petra knows it’sfor the better that he’s proven her suspicions wrong, it’s also not somethingshe’s used to.

She’s also less used torearranging chests at his ever picky whim, but at least that’s easier to takecare of once she realizes he’s not serious about half of his nitpicks and shegets time to enjoy her tea.

“There.” Petra’sfingers, skin a deep pink and scars red, ache as she sets the chest down flushagainst the netherbrick wall, shoulders relaxing as she does, due in equalparts to the lack of audibly cracking or shattering glass and being able tofinally put it down without having to worry about picking it back up.“Happy?”

Not that Ivor doesn’t take hissweet time inspecting it. Reformed or not, he can still be plenty evil.

“I suppose you didn’t entirely bungle it all up.” Hegives a noncommittal shrug as he steps away from the fireplace and closer tothe couch, fingers curling around his mug of tea, hiding the lightly nicked andchipped top. “I’ll admit, I expected far worse from you.”

He’s had his fun with her, nowit’s her turn.

“Was that almost acompliment?” Petra lets her teeth show as she grins, the grin itself showyand larger than it needs to be while still meeting her eyes, even as Ivor seemsto cut off his own groan as he huffs. “Aw, I knew you liked me.”

“Notch forbid. Get out ofhere before I change my mind.”

“And we’re back togrouchy.” Petra rolls her eyes as she tugs her gloves on, fiddling alittle longer with the more faded and frayed of the two, one finger strugglingto not somehow get caught on the wool. “You can’t expect to still betreated like some kind of villain when you’re being nice to people, Ivor.”

It might surprise everyone thathe’s on their side now, but she knows better than to argue with it.

“Feh.” She might justbe a bit jealous of how he can beat even her at eye rolls, though. The onlyperson she’s met before who’s come close to having that kind of level of snarkis Olivia on her bad days. “Yes I can.”

It doesn’t keep her from rollingher eyes right back at him, even if the small smile she gives with it takes hermore by surprise than she’ll ever admit.

“Doesn’t mean you’ll getit.”

Ivor raises an eyebrow as thewind pounds harder against the window, letting the cool air seep in but notdisturbing the slowly growing and ever intricate design of frost on the outsidealso creeping in.

“Don’t you have somewhere tobe?”

“Yeah, yeah, I’mgoing.” The glove stops being trouble just in time for Petra to zip up hercoat and snatch her hat from where she’d tossed it on the couch (which hadinitially been much to Ivor’s very petty, and quickly discovered as more forthe sake of grumbling than anything, frustration). The hat, sleeker on theoutside and perfectly fuzzy on the inside, goes on with considerably lesstrouble than the thick wool gloves could ever hope to. Still, Petra takes hertime adjusting it while she exits the room, glancing over her shoulder even asshe makes her way to the door. “I’m not exactly the sappiest, you know.With Jesse around, you’re going to have to learn to take affection.”

He grumbles something too low forher to hear and too quiet to have any hope of beating the demanding howl of thewind as she opens the door, but she gets the feeling she’s not meant to hearwhatever it is anyhow.

But that’s alright.

Petra doesn’t have to hear him toknow she’s right and they both know it. She might not understand everything hedoes or all the odd little things about him, but she can understand that.

I saw something similar to a character development, but more of what they were ‘supposed’ to be and how they ended up. so here’s my take on it.

karleigh 🌻 (karls): she originally started out as a classic aries type of character (lmao fire sign), but became waaaay softer as I worked her out…

•still obsessed with sunflowers, a Kansas piece of trash at heart. •did a lot of alternative modeling for easy cash as she was figuring life out in her early 20’s, but kind of regrets it now that she’s older and has a foster son/soon to be adoptive son (the internet’s forever). •is realizing a lot of things she thought she knew about herself are turning out to be different, is discovering herself again as she learns to really open up. •diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia at 5 years old, was in remission after chemotherapy & other forms of treatment. currently has myelodysplastic syndrome. very rarely talks of this, doesn’t like talking about it at all. •would’ve gone to med school if she had the guts, but didn’t have that kind of self-confidence. she stuck to what she knew she could do best; helping others through social work (wants to work with kids in schools). •froze her eggs as a last ditch effort incase she wants children of her own in the future, doesn’t/can’t ovulate anymore. •pretty self-conscious about her music tastes (they’re not even BAD) because it seems like everyone she knows has a musical talent or connection, keeps a lot of it to herself as a result so she doesn’t inadvertently alienate herself. •is a helpful nugget who would give you the only shirt off her back if you needed it & listens to anyone’s problems at any time. •is way too trusting/kind/understanding and ends up being betrayed often or taken advantage of (& usually lets them keep doing it unintentionally because she’s too forgiving). •is a bit codependent at moments, but in the end it boils down to whether or not she cares about you 'cause if not she couldn’t care less. there are happy mediums to this for her in friendships of course, but not when it comes to love.

caitlin 🌷 (aka caity or cait): karleigh’s younger sister that was meant to be really innocent and shy, yet snarky and witty but she ended up being a total fucking sass.

•still pretty pure, didn’t lose her virginity until she was 19. (still dating the guy to this day) •was originally supposed to be a pediatric oncologist, but I really liked her more as a cardiothoracic surgeon. (she’s cutthroat, I felt it reflected her better) •is a complete smart ass. sarcasm and dry, witty quips are the languages in which she speaks. •has always been the overachieving child because she felt the need to compensate for everything her parents went through with her older siblings. (josh was a rebellious shit, karleigh was sick) •ridiculously, grossly, stupidly smart. took college courses in high school and had her associates by the time she received her diploma. •as a result graduated college with her bachelors (biochem) in two years; also played volleyball, and was president of her sorority (she’s a try-hard, w/ no life~) •currently works as an LAFD EMT while she puts herself through med school & enjoys it greatly. ryan 🌼 (Karleigh’s AU daughter): I have two ~developments of her, one’s AU and one’s kinda canon so I’m just gonna go into AU. They do blend together at certain moments, but that’s to be expected because she’s still Ryan overall.

•grew up rather similar to a tomboy thanks to Callum & the Xinx boys. doesn’t click very well lifestyle-wise with her other cousins (mirabelle & bethany) as a result but still loves them and hangs out nonetheless. •nicknames include Ry and RJ, mostly Ry. (RJ was what her mother called her). •has a bit of a temper, quick tongue and wit. hell hath no fury like a ryan scorned. isn’t nearly as forgiving or compassionate as her mother was (to a fault), but is still a sensitive person with a lot of empathy. tries to stay reasonable and levelheaded as a result yet often finds herself blowing up here and there. •will insult you/hit you where it hurts if you humiliate or make a fool out of her. she hates feeling like an idiot so if you’re the one who caused it, you’re probably going to hear some blunt, unapologetically harsh words. •at 13, went to live with her aunt & uncle (Caitlin/Anderson) when her mom died in a freak car accident. has a voicemail Karleigh left her the morning of and to this day hasn’t deleted it. would lose her mind if she ever lost the audio for good because it’s all she has. her worst fear is forgetting what Karleigh’s voice sounds like. •finds comfort in the fact she shares a birthday with her Papa Grady, as his favorite story to tell her is how much he wanted her mother to have a baby of her own. A. Psychology

What of the Meyers-Briggs personality types they most fit into? INFP, ENFT, et cetera…   Redd is an ESFP for sure. “The Entertainer”. Friendly, playful, enthusiastic, energetic, helpful. 

What alignment are they? Chaotic neutral, lawful evil, et cetera…   Chaotic Good. Redd isn’t super selfish so she isn’t Chaotic Neutral, and she’s not evil.

Do they have any emotional or psychological conditions? Are they aware of it? Do they try to treat it?   I’m sure Redd has ADHD and used to have anger issues. She also has depression but has been getting better about it.

Are they a pessimist or an optimist?   Optimist! She used to be a pessimist but ever since escaping her father with Ducky, she’s become a brighter person.

Are they good at handling change in their life?   She doesn’t really know how to approach it at first but eventually goes with the flow. She likes change and embraces it after the initial warm up

Does your OC tend to assume their interpretation of events and reality is correct, or do they question it? I.e., “I’m sure that’s what you said” versus “It’s possible I misheard you.”

  Oh, Redd is never wrong. She’s very certain about everythng, except for the things she’s uncertain of, in which case she will still determine something definite about it.

Is your OC confident in their reactions to life in general, or do they get embarrassed or easily shamed for it? I.e., if something startles them, do they insist it WAS scary? When they cry, do they feel like they overreacted?   Redd doesn’t get embarassed easily. She cries a lot and doesn’t think it’s an overreaction and actually believes it is a sign of strength. Redd isn’t startled easily but when she is, she’s not embarassed and rather laughs it off and thinks it was awesome.

Is your OC a martyr?   I mean, I guess? She took all of her younger brother Ducky’s beatings for him since she didn’t want him to get hurt. So in a way she did sacrifice a lot of herself for his safety.

Does your OC make a lot of excuses? For themselves? Others?   Oh, absolutely. Ms. Blaze doesn’t ever mean it in a manipulative or harmful way, she just does so to keep everyone happy.

Does your OC compromise easily? Too easily?   Hell no. Compromising with her is extremely difficult when it comes to the important things. When it comes to smaller stuff, it’s super easy to please her.

Does your OC put others’ needs before their own?   Yes. Absolutely. If she cares about you, she will do anything for you. She has a very fierce love. She’ll take a hit for you, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Does your OC have any addictions? If so and problematic, have they admitted it to themselves?   Redd gets high off adrenaline. She’s the SHSL Daredevil, so naturally, she would be. There have been times where Ducky has come to Redd about some of her stunts as he grew older, but he would reluctantly step off once Redd’s fierce determination shined way too bright.

Does your OC have any phobias? If so, where did they come from?   Redd actually has trypophobia. It’s a fear of irregular holes, cracks, etc. It freaks her out because it reminds her of the abuse her father put her through and also, it’s just plain terrifying.

Is your character empathetic?   Yes! She doesn’t always seem it though. Once she understands the exact emotion someone is feeling, it clicks in her head.

Is your character observant?   God, not really at all. She’s too busy in her own world to pay attention to details and small unimportant things.

Does your OC have to go through their own trials to learn a lesson, or do they listen and learn from observation and lecture? I.e., does your OC listen when someone tries to tell them the importance of budgeting, or do they have to go experience what happens if you don’t budget first?   Oh, she absolutely has to go through her own trials. Really, the only person she listens to is Ducky, and sometimes Reed or December. She’s too stubborn to listen to anybody else.

What’s one of your OC’s proudest moments of themselves?   Saving Ducky.

Do they get jealous easily? Do they feel bad if they do?   Not really. She’s pretty confident. She’ll only get jealous over loving parents and geniuses. Even then it’s more of a wistful jeaousy rather than a malicious jealousy.

What instantly irritates them or puts them in a bad mood?   People who are mean for no reason. Abusive parents. Being told what not to do.

Are they harsh on themselves?   It depends. Physically, yes, but she can handle it. Emotionally, sometimes. But she always finds a way to deal with it.

Do they make excuses often? I mean, I answered this question earlier.

Is your OC intended to be found generally attractive? Unattractive? Average? Is there a reason why?   Generally attractive. She’s a strong, well-figured redhead. Her confidence also helps.

Does your OC place much importance on their appearance? Do they feel confident in it?   She always feels confident no matter what she’s wearing. She could be wearing a banana suit and still feel absolutely comfortable and like she’s killing it.

What are some of your OC’s biggest personal obstacles? This could be emotional, physical, social… Are they aware of it? Are they trying to overcome it?   Redd tries to overcome being told what to do most of the time, hence her SHSL Ability. She knows she’s incredibly stubborn and wants to work on that a bit more. She also knows that she needs to get a handle on her emotions because of things she’s done in the past.

B. Social

Do they believe you have to give respect to get it, or get respect to give it?   Redd firmly believes in giving respect to get it. If you don’t show it, why should you get it? This was ahuge factor with her father and her hatred towards him, aside from all of the abuse.

Do they get frustrated when lines at places like pharmacies, check-outs, delis, banks, et cetera, are moving slowly?   Oh, most definitely. She doesn’t complain loudly about it though because she understands that the workers are trying their hardest. She’s just frustrated with the speed of things since she’s always on the move.

Under what situations would they get angry at servers, staff, customer service, et cetera?   The only time Redd would ever get mad over someone in food service was if they were blatantly discriminating against somebody, or treating children like shit. She would also say something if she noticed a manager being particularly hard on their employees.

Do they tip well? How easily can they be moved to not leave a tip?   Tipping has always confused Redd. There’s something about a rule for 20% or something? She doesn’t know. She just gives a hefty amount since she has quite a bit of money from the stunts she does. When Ducky got older, he taught her that tips are generally given based off of the quality of service. But the thing is, Redd always thinks the quality is great and continues to tip a large amount of money.

Do they hold doors open for people?   Yeah! If she sees somebody is walking her way, she’s very polite and holds open the door. Especially if it’s older people or children. She knows how rude some people are and refuses to be like that intentionally.

Would your OC let someone ahead of them in line if your OC had a big cart and the person behind them had very few items?   Hmmm, this is hard. On one hand she woudn’t want to because in fairness, she got there first, and she’s all about speed. But I think if somebody asked her if they could go in front, she would let them.

How do they respond to babies crying in public?   She runs over to try to cheer them up by making funny faces and holding them. She tries to remember that she needs to ask the child’s parents if she can hold them and throw them up in the air, but it’s hard because she just gets so excited.

Is your OC considered funny? Do they believe they’re funny?   She is considered funny! The people who played in the campaign I created her in loved her. She thinks she’s frigging hilarious. Even if her jokes don’t make any sense.

What kind of humor does your OC like the most? Slapstick, ironic, funny sounds, scare pranks, xD sO rAnDoM…   Redd finds almost everything funny. Scare pranks crack her up but she doesn’t like the ones where the person gets genuninely upset. Slapstick can be pretty hilarious to her but, really, almost anything can crack her up.

Does your OC find any “bad” or “mean” humor funny? Do they wish they didn’t?   She hates that kind of humor. It’s not funny if somebody is getting genuinely hurt.

Your OC is running late to meeting someone: Do they let the other person know? Do they lie about why they’re late?   She doesn’t really let them know unless she remembers. She’s very forgetful. She doesn’t lie about why she’s late. Redd is very blunt and open about things. “Yeah, I was late because I was too busy sleepin’! Sorry!” 

Your OC orders something to eat and gets their order done in a pretty wrong way, something they can’t just pick off or whatnot to correct, or something major is missing. What do they do?   I mean, she’ll eat it anyways. Can’t let food go to waste. Redd will eat just about anything, she’s not a picky eater.

Do they have a large or small group of friends?   Large. She makes friends wherever she goes. She has a lot of love to give and passion to show.

Do they have people they are genuinely honest with about themselves?   As of right now, occaisonally Ducky. Sometimes she’ll initially lie about how she deals with things and Ducky sees right through it, so then she’ll open up and apologize.

Does your OC enjoy social events, such as parties, clubs, et cetera..?   YES. She loves them. She gets to make more friends, be her obnoxious self, and show off. Plus, there’s almost always free food.

Does your OC like to be the center of attention or more in the mix?   Center of attention. She doesn’t mind being more in the mix, but when se does, she accidentally makes it about herself. Her loudness is a great factor to this.

C. Morality

Does your OC have a moral code? If not, how do they base their actions? If so, where does it come from, and how seriously do they take it?   Redd is a very morally grey character. She’ll drink alcohol despite being underage, but she won’t do drugs because that’s bad. Redd has a very upright moral code, but once murdered a acquaintance to save her little brother, and tried to get away with it. She also beat the shit out of her father because of his incessant abuse, believing she left him for dead. Redd believes in justice and getting what you deserve. She bases her actions off of these things: will this hurt someone, do they deserve it, will I get hurt, will this affect Ducky negatively, and what would Ducky think?

Would your OC feel bad if they acted against their morals? If not, would they find a way to excuse themselves for it?   Redd felt incredily guilty about murdering December in order to save Ducky. She confessed immediately after getting caught and regretted taking an innocent life. She knows it was wrong, but would probably do it all over again if she had to.

Is it important for them to be with people (socially, intimately, whatever) whose major ideological tenets align with their own?   Not necessarily. She doesn’t mind being friends with people who are completely different form her. Really the only basis she has for being around people is that they aren’t jerks who hurt people.

Do they consider themselves superior or more important than anyone else? Lesser?   Redd thinks she’s a god reincarnated. She knows she’s dangerous, attractive, and physically superior. She doesn’t think so in a shallow way, but more in confidence. She thinks she’s the best. Because she has to.

Do your OC’s morals and rules of common decency go out the window when it comes to those they don’t like, or when it’s inconvenient? Aka, are their morals situational?   This is tricky. But in the end, they would go out the window for her. SHe would know it isn’t right, but wants survival of the fittest.

What do they do when they see someone asking for money or food? If they ignore them, why? If they help, how so?   If she sees somebody doing this, she will immediately give them both. She always carries cash and woud go to the nearest place and buy them a meal. She knows the world can be rough.

Do they believe people change over time? If so, is it a natural process or does it take effort?   Redd believes people can change over time, but is very hesitant to believe it firsthand with people who have done wrong. She’s very hypocritical when it comes to this.

Is your OC more practical or ideal morally? I.e., do they hold people to high expectations of behavior even if it’s not realistic for the situation, or do they have a more realistic approach and adapt their morality to be more practical?   I mean, she doesn’t really give a shit. She doesn’t have too many expectations and goes with the flow.

D. Religion and Life and Death

How religious is your OC? What do they practice, if anything? If they don’t associate with any religion, what do they think of religion in general?   Redd isn’t religious. She doesn’t practice and she thinks religion is a little silly, but respects people’s beliefs and finds them pretty neat.

Do they believe in an afterlife?   She doesn’t, but she hopes it exists. It doesn’t make sense to her as a concept, but she wants to be able to continue existing somewhere, especially if her loved ones will also be there.

How comfortable are they with the idea of death?   She’s comfortable with it but doesn’t want to die until she’s ready. Redd gets sad when people she dies and she takes it hard, but she knows and understands it’s a natural thing and tries to cope via those beliefs.

Would they like to be immortal? Why, why not? If they are immortal, would they rather not be?   Redd would absolutely take that offer up. I feel like she would love to be immortal, but would only hesitate because then that meant she would have to continue to exist without her loved ones. So actually, she wouldn’t! The desire to be with her loved ones is stronger than her desire to do everything in the world there is to do.

Do they believe in ghosts? If not, why? If so, do they think they’re magical/tie into their religion, or are they scientifically plausible?   She does believe in ghosts. Everything has energy, and energy can neither be created or destroyed, so somebody’s existence has to go somewhere, right?

E. Education and Intelligence

Would you say that your OC is intelligent? In what ways? Would your OC agree?   Hahahaha, Redd is surprisingly intelligent in some aspects, but otherwise, she’s very simple, to put it plainly. She can definitely be an idiot and not understand or get a lot of things, but she’s smart in other areas.

Which of the nine types of intelligence is your OC strongest in? Weakest? (Linguistic, existential, naturalist, et cetera)   Bodily-kinesthetic is most definitely her strongest. Her weakest would probably be logical-mathematical or lingustic. She doesn’t understand math as well as she wishes she did, and she’s not great with words. Redd speaks with malapropisms.

How many languages do they speak?   A lot! Whether she gets all of the words and pronounces them correctly, is another question.

Did they enjoy school if they went to it?   Redd enjoyed Hope’s Horizon but often slept in academic classes that bored her. She was too hyper for everything else that if the class couldn’t keep her focused, she would just sleep or eat.

What’s their highest education level? Do they want to continue their education?   She eventually graduated from Hope’s Horizon, but didn’t go to college right away. She took a break for quite a few years until Ducky pushed her to attend college and get a degree. Although she wasn’t super open to it, she wanted to please Ducky. And when Ducky said, “Yeah? Well I dare you to go to college”, well, she just simply couldn’t refuse.

Do they enjoy learning? Do they actively seek out sources of self-education?   Redd loves learning about different things as long as they excite her. If they don’t, she doesn’t seek it out. If someone starts teaching her about something boring, she’ll try her best to get out of it or loudly proclaim “SNOOZEEE” if it’s a snore-fest.

Are they a good note-taker? Are they a good test-taker? Do exams make them nervous?   No, no, and yes. Taking tests has never been her strong suit and she’ll just goof around and guess.

What’s one of your OC’s biggest regrets?   Leaving her father alive, but also letting her emotions control her in that moment.

F. Domestic Habits, Work, and Hobbies

What sort of home do they live in now, if at all? How did they end up there?   After escaping her abusive father, Redd purchased a mansion to accomodate to her and Ducky. She ran away and looked for an abandoned house to stay at for just a day or two. Luckily, she found a giant, red mansion. She contacted the agent and bought it off.

What’s their ideal home look like? Where is it?   The home she has right now is her ideal home. It’s in a large secluded area so that her and Ducky can have some peace and quiet for once.

Could they ever live in a “tiny home”?   Nope. Redd takes up to much room and needs the space to run, move about, stretch, etc.

How clean are they overall with home upkeep?   Not very clean at all. When she remembers to clean, she tries realy hard, but it ends up still looking very messy. Her idea of cleaning is putting things into “organized” piles.

How handy are they? Can they fix appliances, cars, cabinets, et cetera?   Redd can be pretty handy, but she usually is the one accidentally breaking whatever needs fixing. She’ll usually come to Piper or Ducky if something needs fixing. If neither are available, she’ll resort to Google and epically fail at the instructions and somehow create something entirely new. Or get it to work but in a very bizarre and unrecedented way.

How much do they work? What do they do? Do they enjoy it?   Redd’s full time job is as the SHSL Daredevil. She loves doing action-y things, stunts, dares, etc. It’s her life.

What’s their “dream career” or job situation?   She has it! Travelling the world, meeting people, eating good food, and doing dangerous things.

How often are they home?   As often as she can be. She likes coming home because it’s the first place that feels like home. But for the most part, she’s out and about.

Are they homebodies and enjoy being home?   Not a homebody, but does enjoy being at home. She loves spending time with Ducky and inviting friends over to her mansion to play games, work out, swim, etc.

Do they engage in any of the arts? How good do you intend them to be? Would they agree they are?   Redd doesn’t do art! She thinks art is beautiful and music is too, but she doesn’t know how to do either of them. She’ll participate when she feels like it but gets just a little dscouraged when it doesn’t come out as great as she wanted it to.

What are some of their favorite things to do for recreation? How did they get into it? What part of it do they like the most?   Anything extreme? Redd will love. Skateboarding, shark tanks, skydiving. But she secretly likes spending time doing what Ducky likes the most.

Would they enjoy a theme park?   She would LOVE theme parks, but kicked out of some of them for reacting certain ways and trying to do dangerous things.

G. Family and Growing Up

Is your OC close to their family?   Only Ducky. Her father was a real piece of shit and her mother left when she was very young, never to be seen again. Ducky is her life. She protects him and wants to make sure he grows up normally.

Who makes up your OC’s family, at least the more important members to them?   Her and her little brother Ducky.

Does your OC find their family supportive? If not, what would be an example why not?   She finds Ducky very supportive! She relies on him a lot.

What kind of childhood did your OC have?   A very terrible one. Her father would get drunk and beat her. When Ducky was born, she had to take care of him because herfather would just drink and watch tv and go to work. When Ducky was a toddler, her father realized he had somebody else he could take his anger out on. When he first swung his fist at Ducky, Redd’s eyes widened in fear and anger and she jumped in front of Ducky, taking the hit for him. Ever since then, she made sure Ducky was never home alone with him and took every hit and blow intended for him.

Did they go through any typical phases growing up?   Not really. Redd didn’t get to have any typeof typical childhood she she grew up very differently.

Do they have any favorite childhood memories?   When she took Ducky to the movies for the first time. He was so excited and she was so happy she could treat him to it.

Do they have any childhood memories they’d rather forget or be less affected by?   LOL. Redd wishes she could forget all the times her father scarred and burned her. She has long scars and burn marks from the abuse all over her back, arms, legs, stomach, etc. Most places where people can’t see. She used to wear long sleeves and jeans so nobody would notice. Once she ran away, she started becoming more comfortable in shorts and short sleeved shirts. She wishes she could forget her father, but uses her scars and marks to remind herself of her dedication and protectiveness.

H. Romance and Intimacy

What is your OC’s orientation, romantic and/or sexual? Has it ever been a source of stress for them? Have they always been pretty sure of their orientation?   Redd is pansexual and panromantic. She’s always been sure of having all types of love but was initially confused as to why her father hated gay people. She thought it was a bad thing. She soon realized it wasn’t and came to grips with it. Redd is also polyamorous but doesn’t mind being monogamous if her partner is.

Is your OC a thoughtful partner, in whatever aspect of that you want to cover?   Yes! Redd is very thoughtful, but a bit awkward at first. She’ll always try and make sure her and her partner(s) have fun and feel loved. In the beginning she’ll forget things and events but eventually she’ll start traingin herself to set reminders.

Does your OC believe there’s only one ideal partner (or multiple ideal if not monogamous) for everyone, or that there are many people who could be right?   No! She’s polyamorous and believes that whatever feels right to the person, that’s how it is. If someone feels there’s only 1 person for them, then there is! If someone believes there are 3 people for them, then there is!

Does your OC believe in love in first sight?   She does. She loves love.

Does your OC believe in marriage (or their culture’s equivalent)?   In a way, not really. She believes in the legal advantages of marriage but doesn’t believe marriage is the be-all end-all. Although, a wedding would allow for good food, loud music, and loved ones.

Has your OC ever cheated on anyone or been cheated on?   She has never cheated on anybody and she has not ben cheated on. You better pray you don’t cheat on her.

What do they look for in partners? (Emotionally, mentally, physically..)   Someone who is fun and appreciates her for who she is. If they are cool with her, then she’s down.

What’s your OC’s idea of a perfect date?   She doesn’t really have one. She’s perfectly content with whatever they do together. But I guess if I had to say something, good food and an adventure of some kind.

What are some things that your OC finds to be an instant turn-off in potential partners?   Abusive and intentionally mean people.

I. Food

What are their favorite kinds of flavors– Sweet, salty, sour, spicy, creamy, et cetera?   Redd loves salty and spicy foods. Creamy weirds her out a little bit, but she loves food and is willing to eat anything.

Do they have any eating requirements or preferences? Allergies, vegetarian, organic-only, religious restrictions…   Nope! Redd requires meat in every meal just because of preference but she’s not allergic to anything.

Are they vegan/vegetarian (if their overall culture/species generally aren’t)? If so, why? Do they think animal products are wrong in all circumstances?   She could never. Meat is like oxygen to her. She thinks it’s wrong but doesn’t think about it too much.

How often do they cook? Do they order out a lot?   Redd is never allowed to cook. She’s too attention defecit and forgetful and bad with directions. She orders out A LOT.

Are they a good cook?   See above.

Could they eat the same thing they enjoy over and over and not get bored of it quickly?   Absolutely. She eats steak and bacon almost every day.

J. Politics, Current Events, Environmental Aspects

Where does your OC stand most politically? What would they align with most?   Redd is more on the left side of the spectrum. 

How politically aware are they?   Redd is surprisingly politically aware. She used to pay no attention to things like that becase she didn’t think it affected her. But traveling has opened her eyes and now she is more open to it.

How politically active are they?   Redd will absolutely fight for rights and take place in marches. She’ll go to protests and be the loudest one there.

Is your OC the sort to fall for fake news? If not, do they ignore it or make a point to clarify that it’s wrong?   Ducky is her source of correct information, and Violet and Jack as well. In fact, there’s a group chat dedicaed just to Redd linking articles to them asking about teir credibility.

Are they or would they protest for a cause they’re passionate about?   Absolutely. Redd is a very passionate woman and won’t back down for what she believes in. She would have certainly marched in the Women’s March.

How do they react to people whose political viewpoints are very opposite of theirs?   Not well. She’s not very open-minded in that aspect and will get in their face about if they even show ANY sign of agression.

How much interest in environmental health do they have?   She is interested but not as interested as she could be.

In reality-based or applicable worlds, do they believe in global warming? Do they recycle?   Yes! She tries to be aware but often forgets. She does indeed believe in global warming.

L. For the Writer/Owner

How have your characters changed since you created them?   Originally, I was going to have Redd be a little more serious. But then I decided to make her this lovable ginat goofball. I really love the archetype of dangerous girls who could kill you, but have a big heart and are dorks.

What do you consider the biggest themes in your character, if any?   My biggest themes with her are action, overcoming abuse, and love.

Did you create the character to be like yourself, did they end up being like yourself, or are they very different from you?   This is hilarious because me and Redd have a lot in common. Each OC of mine takes parts of myself and I create and add things to them. Redd takes my passion and what I wish I could be. She’s like an extroverted me. She has my dedication and stubbornness as well. However, she’s more blunt, more extroverted, more active, etc.

Would you hang out with your OC if you could?   PLEASE. I would love to hang out with her. She would be great.

How did you come up with your OC?   @thores came up with a tabletop RPG for a Danganronpa type game. We had to create three characters, and so Redd was the first character I came up with. I wanted to play a more physical character since most of mine reflect my on physical abilities and comforts. I decided SHSL Daredevil would be pretty cool. I then came up with her personality, found a reference picture, and built her background from there.

19 Real Life Examples of An Extroverted Introvert So You Don't Get Confused

If you’re like me, you’re an extroverted introvert. You can be outgoing, yet you desperately need your alone time.

You can’t do that. You’re one or the other.

No, this is how I am. And that’s how many other people are. But we’re often misunderstood.

Take for instance, people often see me as completely, inarguably, extroverted because that’s the personality that gets the most attention. The other side of me, the side that stays home and reads all day, doesn’t get any attention (but I love doing that, take a look at my reading list if you don’t believe me).

Let me tell you what happened a few weekends ago.

I spent Saturday alone, reading, writing, getting errands done. At 8:54 pm, I got a text from a friend, asking what I was up to. He was making plans to go out. I responded, “Nothing. What’s up?”

Fifteen minutes passed and he didn’t respond. I wanted to go out and considered calling him to see what was happening, but also wanted to sit in bed and read a book before going to bed at 10 pm. So I didn’t call.

Another fifteen minutes passed and I finally made the call. It took half an hour and a significant amount of energy for me to put down my book, pick up my phone, and call him to figure out the plan for that night.

So instead of staying in and reading myself to sleep, I left my apartment at 9:30 pm to go out for drinks.

And you know what I did? I danced. And I was obnoxious. And I had tons of fun.

But the next day? I sat at a coffee shop and read a book. I did some grocery shopping, cooked, and ate alone while watching Netflix. I spoke to almost no one. I only texted my friend who I went out with the night before to see how he was doing. I didn’t want to talk to anyone. And I loved it.

So yes I’m outgoing. But not all the time.

The fact is, extroversion and introversion isn’t an either/or type of thing. It’s a spectrum and you can lie anywhere along that spectrum.

For us, we happen to be very close to the middle and even flip-flop between the two.

I know, it’s confusing.

Some of us learned to become more extroverted because we realize that the basis of human nature is grounded in interacting with each other – it’s kind of unavoidable.

To relieve you of some confusion, here are a few things we’d like you to know about extroverted introverts.

1. We’re often quiet, but it doesn’t mean we don’t want to talk.

We most likely have plenty of thoughts we want to talk about, but think that they won’t interest you. We’d rather listen to you talk because we want to learn about you and we know you’d enjoy talking.

2. And just because we like being around people doesn’t mean we want to talk.

Talking requires a lot of effort. For us, being around people is often enough to make us happy. I know, it’s a little confusing.

3. We like hanging out one on one better than in groups. We’ll listen to you forever.

One on one hangouts are more intimate and we like that. It means we get a chance to actually get to know you and have a thorough conversation about what we really care about instead of making small talk that an entire group can contribute to.

4. We suck at responding to texts because sometimes we don’t want to talk – to anyone.

It’s not that we hate people or that we’re annoyed. Sometimes we’ve just been around people so much that we’re exhausted from talking and texting and Skyping and we just don’t want to talk. We’re totally open to hanging out in person, just don’t expect us to talk too much when we’re in one of these moods.

5. We’re open to meeting your other friends. Just let us know ahead of time that we’ll be meeting new people so we can mentally prepare ourselves to socialize.

We’re not closed off to meeting new people, it’s just a very exhausting thing to do. So we literally have to prepare ourselves to socialize. We have to get into the mindset of, “Okay, I’m going to be talking a lot.”

6. Despite needing our alone time, we do get lonely.

It’s difficult to balance between alone time and not feeling lonely. Often we’ll want to go out because we feel alone, but our apartment is so comfortable that we won’t want to leave.

7. It’s hard to get us out, but we’ll have a great time when we go out.

Sometimes we’ll require some coercing to get us out of the house. Again, it’s not that we don’t want to go out, we just start thinking, “What if it’s not fun? I could totally be reading my book. What if the tickets are sold out? What if they don’t actually want me to go and they’re just inviting me to be nice? We begin to draw into our own heads and make up things that could go wrong and use them as excuses to not go out.

8. We’ll happily chat up your parents/friends/girlfriend/boyfriend/boss/etc., but once it’s over, we require silence.

After so much talking, we really need to recharge.

9. We’re not always the most talkative people in a group, but if someone is in need of a social life jacket, we can step up and offer that.

Again, we’ll happily chat someone up if the situation arises. We get that conversation can be uncomfortable, so if we see someone who is worse than us at holding a conversation, then we’ll take the initiative to make them feel more comfortable.

10. We live in our heads even if it seems like we put ourselves out there.

Even when we’re being outgoing, our thoughts are still running and analyzing the situation.

11. Because we can be outgoing and calculated at the same time, sometimes we end up being leaders. But that does not mean we want praise, nor do we want to talk about how great we are.

People seem to think that we’re fit to be leaders. We can stand up and talk in front of crowds when we need to. We can make decisions when we need to. But we often analyze ourselves and don’t think highly of our skill sets. Sometimes we don’t believe we’re good enough to lead. We always think we can be better so praise often makes us cringe.

12. We bounce between wanting to be noticed for our hard work to panicking over the thought of somebody else paying more than 30 seconds of attention to us.

Sometimes we want attention, other times it’s hard to believe anyone would spend more than 10 seconds on us.

13. People think we’re flirtatious. We’re not.

We understand that interacting with people is a necessary part of life. So we make an effort to do it intentionally, and genuinely want people to know that they have our undivided interest and attention.

14. We get mad at ourselves for wanting to stay in and letting our friends down.

Which is why we sometimes force ourselves to go out. To let our friends know that we enjoy spending time with them, not because we want to be out.

15. We’re at our happiest in places like coffee shops and cafés: surrounded by people, but still closed off and keeping to yourself.

We just like being around people, even if they’re strangers. It’s the compromise of being around people but not having to talk to them.

16. We have a constant inner struggle of controlling our introverted side.

It’s frustrating because we’ll realize when we start withdrawing into our own minds and become extremely introspective. It happens when we’re in really big crowds. And the only thought is, “Oh no, it’s happening. No. I have to talk to someone now. But it’s so difficult. No. Yes, you have to talk or else you’re going to end up in your head for the rest of the night.”

17. We really don’t like small talk.

We’d avoid small talk if we could. We want to really get to know you. We want to know what you think about, what your goals are, what your family is like. We don’t want to talk about how bad the weather is. But if that’s what you’re comfortable talking about, then we’ll talk about it.

18. We don’t actually have a staple “group” of friends.

We often pick and choose one or two individuals from different social groups that make up our closest friends. But we make this handful of best friends our life and we’d do anything for them.

19. If we like you, we really like you. We’re extremely picky about who we spend our time and energy on. If we’ve hung out multiple times, take it as a compliment.

Seriously. If it’s such a struggle to talk to people and if we get so exhausting going out, it’s a big deal if we’re willing to spend our time and energy with you. It isn’t to say that we’re full of ourselves. We just wouldn’t want to spend that energy with people whose company we don’t enjoy.
