DCxDP: De-aged Danny is a Eldritch Little Ball of Mischief
This was not how Danny envisioned his evening going. Who knew that not only did an immortal ancient fae not only live in the infinite realms, but it also really didn’t like it when Danny told it that it couldn’t go around usurping other Kings’ kingdoms for funsies? Not Danny. Until about an hour ago that is. When the Observents observed the imbalance, they had told him about it. Apparently it was important enough to literally bury him in envelopes. Well, it wouldn’t be a bad thing to get away from paperwork for a while, Danny had thought. It turned out to be a much more difficult task than he’d anticipated.
Lucky for Danny, he’d just won the not-so-little spat and the fae capitulated in the end, agreeing to maintain but not expand the boundaries of its haunt. Unlucky for Danny, there was a different neverborn fast approaching, and from its posture, it was not wanting to just have tea. Taking just enough time to send out a “hurt/portaling away/talk later/careful” core message to his Fraid, Danny pushed the ectoplasm in front of him to the side and willed the Realms to take him somewhere safe.
The swirling green energy was a relief. The Realms all but pushed him inside, and he fell through time and space, getting smaller and smaller to conserve the little ectoplasm he had left. He slid to the ground with a sigh. All he saw before the world faded was an overcast sky framed by the edges of apartment buildings.
****
Danny slowly woke up. The first thing he noticed was the gravel he lay on. It shifted beneath as he rolled over, bits clinging to his skin where he had been touching the ground. The second thing he noticed was the smell. The third thing he noticed was that there was a lot of noise coming from somewhere. He wrinkled his nose and sat up, rubbing at his eyes with his tiny hands.
Tiny hands?
Danny looked at his hands. They were indeed tiny.
He opened and closed his tiny baby hands experimentally. They made adorable little fists, but weren’t they supposed to make big fists? How big were his hands supposed to be again? He looked at his body. His hands seemed to be the right size compared to the rest of himself, so he decided to not worry about it.
What he would worry about was his immediate comfort, and the thing bothering him most was Why Did It Smell So Bad. He pushed himself into a sitting position and then floated just of the ground. He frowned at the metal wall in front of himself. Taking a few steps back, he saw it was a dumpster… which explained the smell, at least. So what was the noise?
Peering around the dumpster, Danny saw a very small, colorful car, and the door opened to reveal a clown who shouldn’t be able to fit into such a small place. He laughed maniacally, just loud enough to cover the sounds of distress from nearby people.
“Well, well, well, Batsy! Seems your little Arkham fun house can’t hold all this FUN!” Arms spread wide, a clown extricated himself from the car and walked forward, eyes fixed on something above him. “I think someone needs to remind Gotham how to live a little, wouldn’t you agree? Why don’t you all SMILE for me?”
He threw his head back and cackled. The sound sent shivers through Danny’s body and made him flatten his ears. Ears? He glanced up and didn’t see anything. When he patted his head with his tiny adorable hands, though, he found that he did indeed have soft pointy ears. Which was… something that he probably should have feelings about.
The sound of confetti popping drew his attention away from his (maybe new) ears back to the events outside. The bystanders were smiling now, tears streaming down their cheeks. Another pop of confetti, and their smiles stretched wider. They didn’t seem to be actually smiling. Danny watched as less colorful clowns brought more people up the laughing one. He reached into the car and pulled out another confetti popper. Danny frowned. It wasn’t right to make people feel scared, and it wasn’t right to make them smile if they didn’t want to, either. Danny may be small, but at least he knew that! He started forward. The clown was big but no matter how big you were, sharp teeth still hurt. Danny licked his lips. His teeth were very sharp. Changing his tail to less noticeable little legs and little feet, he crept forward.
As he opened his mouth to BITE that horrible no good very bad clown, he was snatched up and yote! Yote from one pair of big hands to another! They wrapped up his writhing form in a firm, one armed hug and then swung him away from the clown, away from the ground, and onto the roof, where he was unceremoniously plopped down. He blinked.
He blinked again. There were other people on the roof. Some were crying. Some were smiling. Some were standing and looking over the edge. Person Who Grabbed him was one of those. Person Dressed Like A Traffic Light was another.
“He doesn’t seem affected, but he might bite,” said grabbed.
“Tt. I will be able to handle the small child. What do you take me for?” Traffic Light uncrossed his arms, pulled something from his belt, and threw it with practiced ease. Danny heard a “oof” and then thud as someone’s body thumped to the ground. Traffic Light had hurt someone!
“No! Don’t hurt!” Danny lunged for Traffic Light’s elbow, only to be grabbed by Grabbed again!
“Woah, little one!” Grabbed wore a mask, but Danny could still see his smile. “We’re taking care of the bad clowns. They are hurting people, and we want them to stop.”
“Ok,” said Danny. He didn’t like the clowns. They could get very hurt for all he cared.

🫧 Can you write #15 with Quinn Hughes? Thank you!! :)
the proposal - q. hughes
A/N: Once again, college has been so busy that I haven’t had any time to post 😭 Hope you enjoy this, it’s more of a real imagine than a blurb to make up for the long wait! Love you guys :))
Tumblr media
You woke up to the summer breeze rustling through your curtains. Your afternoon nap had replenished your energy from your morning out on the boat with Quinn. You had arrived at Quinn and Jack’s lake house just a few days earlier, and Jack had arrived last night. Now, you were waiting on Luke to get in this evening to round out your little group.
You stretched out to find the bed empty, but your hand brushed a piece of paper on Quinn’s side of the bed. To Y/N, it said. You blearily picked it up and read the message inside.
Pick you up for dinner at 6. Dress fancy :)
Love,
Quinn
You giggled at the note, at how adorable it was. You and Quinn were literally staying at the same house but his little plan made you smile. This summer would mark the fourth year that you and Quinn had been together and the first since you two had moved in together. You couldn’t imagine doing life without him anymore.
You picked out a light green slip dress from your closet, one of Quinn’s favorites on you. With the two hours you had left, you put on some makeup and did your hair. You loved that Quinn always made spending time with you a priority in your relationship, even when you had gone on just about every date imaginable.
You walked downstairs at 5:45, not sure what to expect. Jack was sitting at the kitchen counter, scrolling on his phone. He looked up immediately when he heard your heels clicking on the floor, grinning at you like a five year old with a secret.
“Why are you smiling at me like that, Jack?” You chuckled, a little suspicious.
“No reason!” Jack said quickly. “But Quinn will be here soon, he just texted me.”
You nodded and pulled out your phone to check. Quinn had also sent you a message that you had missed.
From: quinn❤️
On my way, see you in a few
You said goodbye to Jack and went to wait outside for Quinn. Before you left for Michigan, you had gotten your nails done and made sure to pack some of your favorite outfits just in case a special night like tonight happened. You raised your left hand and your various rings shone in the light, but your ring finger still remained bare. You let out a sigh, trying not to get your hopes up in case tonight wasn’t the night. After four years together, you knew Quinn was the one, you just had to wait for the big moment now.
Quinn pulling up drew you from your thoughts a few moments later. He honked the horn of the beautiful cream colored vintage convertible he had rented for the night. He hopped out and came to walk you to the car, giving you a quick kiss.
“There’s my gorgeous date for the night,” he said proudly. His comment made your cheeks heat up and you marveled at the way he could still make you blush, even after knowing him for years.
“You don’t look too bad yourself, especially in this fancy car,” you said as he opened your car door for you. Quinn had always been a gentleman to you, it was one of the things you loved most about him. He never failed to make you feel special.
“So, where does this mystery date take place, Captain Hughes?”
Quinn just shook his head as he drove. His hair was blowing softly in the breeze and the summer sun highlighted his features beautifully. You were so gone for this man.
“Can’t spoil the surprise just yet, babe.”
Twenty minutes later, Quinn pulled up to a small restaurant right on the lake. He led you inside and the hostess quickly brought you to a table in a small gazebo, right near the water.
Quinn quickly pulled out your chair for you to sit in and you giggled at his actions. He had always been chivalrous, opening doors for you, pulling out your seat. It was something you had never experienced from guys before Quinn and now you hoped you’d never have to live without it.
You reached for his hand across the table once he sat down, yearning for his touch. His hand found yours and he smiled.
“Hi babe,” he said quietly. It was only the two of you for a good twenty feet, so you couldn’t hear anyone else’s conversations, and you doubt they could hear yours, but leave it to your Quinn to still be soft spoken and sweet.
“Hi Quinny,” you said shyly. “Can’t believe you got a spot here for dinner.”
Quinn knew this restaurant was one of your favorites. It was the place three years ago where he asked you to be his girlfriend. You had an inkling that he had an important question for you tonight.
“Yeah, just wanted to bring you back to where it all started,” he said. “Remember when I asked you do be my girlfriend? I was so nervous that day.”
You could tell he was nervous again and almost started to tease him about, but a waiter came up before you could ask. The meal got underway and you didn’t get to bring it up again. The two of you talked about anything and everything, just like you always did.
Quinn had checked his phone a few times during dinner, typing away on his screen before returning to the conversation.
“Something important on there, babe?” You asked.
“Uh, just some texts about hockey stuff,” he smiled back nervously. You knew he was always busy with captain duties, but you had a feeling that he wasn’t actually texting anyone about hockey. Regardless, you nodded and finished your dinner, which was absolutely delicious as always.
The sun had started to paint the sky hues of pink and purple and you smiled at the beautiful view of the sunset over the lake. This could be the night that you become Quinn’s fiancée. The thoughts swarmed your mind and sent tears to your eyes. You loved Quinn so much, you just didn’t want to wait any longer.
“Y/N?” Quinn drew you from your thoughts.
“Hmm?” You tried not to act like you were totally distracted, but it wasn’t easy. Quinn titled his head like a confused puppy.
“You alright? You looked sad,” he said.
“Yeah, I was just thinking about us,” you said, smiling at him. “I’m the luckiest girl ever.”
“Well, I’m the luckiest guy ever.”
You could tell Quinn got a little startled at your words and how close you were to tears. He thought you had figured him out. He ate the last few bites on his plate as you did the same, and asked if you wanted to go down by the restaurant’s dock with him.
“Sure, but can I run to the bathroom first?” You asked, and he stood up quickly to pull your chair out for you so you could go inside.
“Uh, sure! I mean, yeah, of course, I will just wait here,” he said, tripping over his words.
He watched as you started to walk away from the gazebo and towards the main building and he hastily pulled out his phone. Clicking Jack’s number, he prayed his younger brother would answer in time.
“Yo,” Jack answered.
“Get back in the car or hide or something! She’s coming into the restaurant right now!”
Quinn heard a few curses and some bottles clinking as he assumed Jack and Luke were trying to get up from the bar or a table and get out of the restaurant.
“She’s going in the door near the ramp, so don’t go that way or she’ll see you.”
“We’re not, we’re outside on the patio,” Jack snapped. “You’re bossy when you’re nervous.”
Quinn rolled his eyes. He could make out two tall figures over on the patio deck who were waving at him. Jack had gone to pick Luke up from the airport and they both made their way to the restaurant, along with a photographer, to see their brother propose.
“I’m not nervous, I’m just,” but Quinn didn’t have an answer. Truthfully, he was nervous. He knew he had waited quite a while to propose, not ever doubting your relationship, but just waiting for the right moment. Quinn knew there were plenty of moments in Vancouver where he could’ve pulled out the ring he had picked out for you last year, but none of them seemed right. He wanted to propose to you at the spot where you became his girlfriend, with the beautiful lake and sunset in the background.
“Yeah, exactly,” Jack and Luke chuckled. “We’ve got the photographer waiting, she’s also excited. You got this, okay? She’s gonna say yes, she loves you, Quinn.”
Jack’s words calmed him down a little, and before he knew it, you were walking out of the restaurant. He quickly dropped the call and watched your dress shine in the evening sun. He couldn’t believe you would be his fiancée tonight.
Quinn stood to greet you, reaching for your hand, which you accepted.
“Look at how sweet they are, Quinn,” You passed by a few tables with some older couples, and your heart swelled in your chest. You hoped that would be you and Quinn someday.
Quinn just squeezed your hand, not able to say anything due to the lump in his throat.
“I hope that will be us someday, coming to the lake house and spending summers together.”
Quinn nodded and led you up the ramp, letting you go first so he could locate the photographer who gave him a small wave and thumbs up to indicate she was ready.
“Oh my god, Quinn, look at the sunset!” You walked to the edge of the dock, gazing out into the sky. You were so enamored that you didn’t realize that there were fairy lights adorning the wooden posts on the dock, which weren’t usually there. They twinkled in the waning light, and Quinn wished he was able to see how they lit up your face.
He kept a little distance between the two of you, standing to the side, just like him and the photographer had practiced the day before. Quinn reached into his pocket to grab the little velvet box. He quietly knelt down to your left side as you turned to the right and waited for his moment.
“Oh shoot, I think I left my phone at the table so I can’t take a-,” you said, turning to your left where you had felt Quinn’s presence. Unsurprisingly, he was there, since you could always tell where he was, but shockingly, he was down on one knee, staring at you.
“Quinn,” you said breathlessly, your hand coming to cover your gaping mouth.
“Y/N, I knew from the moment I met you that it was love at first sight. I knew that you were special, and that I would be lucky enough just to be your friend and have you in my life,” he said shakily. “I never thought a girl as beautiful and intelligent and perfect as you would ever walk into my life, but I’ve been so lucky to call you mine ever since.”
You couldn’t help the tears that welled in your eyes at this point. You had hoped for this moment for years, and there was no stopping the emotions now.
“I’m so grateful that you support me in my dreams and my job and I’m the proudest guy on the ice every time I know you’re up in the stands cheering me on. I could’ve never made it to where I am without you in my life, and I hope you know how much you mean to me,” Quinn said, getting choked up. “You complete my family, my life, and myself in a way that I didn’t think was possible, and I don’t ever want to do life without you.”
“I know I waited a long time to ask you this question, but I hope you know I just wanted everything to be perfect. And I thought asking you here, where it all began, was as perfect as it gets,” he said, opening the small box in his hands.
“Y/N L/N, will you marry me?” Quinn could barely get the words out of his mouth before you were nodding enthusiastically, your whole body shaking.
“Yes, Quinn, yes,” you said urgently. He chuckled nervously and placed the beautiful ring on your left ring finger. You had never put on a piece of jewelry that felt more right.
You pulled Quinn up to kiss him, and finally registered the clicks of the camera and the cheers coming from the restaurant, led by a pair of brothers you knew all too well.
“I knew you were planning something,” you giggled against his lips. “I love you so much Quinn.”
“I love you too, Y/N. Can’t wait to call you Mrs. Hughes someday.”

Tumblr media
can’t stand to see you go
“oh shit right there…” you moaned into damian’s ear as he was pounding into you in a sensual but firm way. his hands on the headboard while your hands were leaving marks on his back - not that the cared.
“just like that?” he smirked, watching your blissful face.
“yes - oh fuck…” you kept moaning. your moans were music for his ears.
everytime you spent the night together, he always tried new things, new positions and you honestly had no idea such positions were even a thing.
and if someone told you, four months ago, that you would start a friends with benefits type of thing with damian priest, you probably would have started laughing. it was no secret that you liked damian, everyone knew except him.
one night, after a successful night for both of you, the judgment day asked you to join them for some celebration and you agreed. damian offered you to bring you back that night as he was staying in the same hotel you were staying at. so, due to the fact that you were too drunk, he was too drunk, you ended up sleeping together.
you couldn’t deny that it was the best night of your life and the worst part is that damian wasn’t even embarrassed as much as you. when you woke up next to him, naked from head to toe, you couldn’t even bare to look at him.
you weren’t someone for a causal hookup. you were passionate and a romantic person, you loved loving and so everything was new for you but damian made sure to reassure you that what happened wouldn’t have changed your relationship.
so you agreed to stop.
but then he won at wrestlemania and he asked you to celebrate with him and the same thing happened again.
you couldn’t stay away from him as much as he couldn’t stay away from you so you both agreed to keep this a “friends with benefits” relationship only.
it worked really good in the past but your feelings for damian were growing more and more. especially when in these past months he got to know you better, he learned how to pleasure you, what you like and what you didn’t.
everyone would have fallen in love with him too.
“taking my cock so well hermosa…your pussy was made for me” he groaned, going faster and hitting that spot that made your legs shake underneath his body “i can feel you’re close, come for me sweetheart” and it took him one last push against your spot to make you clench hard around his dick, making him cumming too, letting him release inside of you.
you were both panting heavily, trying to catch your breath from the mind blowing session you just had.
“you alright?” he asked, making sure you were okay.
you nodded, not trusting your words at the moment.
it’s not that damian wasn’t good with taking care of you after sex, it’s just that you both agreed that the were no feelings involved so you couldn’t expect him to hold you and whisper soft words to you. he always brought you water, snacks if you asked him, a towel to clean you up but that’s it.
cuddles were for couples and you clearly weren’t one.
“why are you so silent?” he asked, looking at you.
“oh…its nothing”
“its not nothing…i know that look and it’s the look you have when you’re thinking about something important…will you let me in your head? please?” he asked with that soft smile that always made you smile back.
“sometimes i wonder… what if i want more? it would be nice to actually be in a relationship you know? not that i don’t enjoy this, but my head sometimes thinks about all the possibilities…” you confessed, trying to keep it vague.
“y/n…you know we talked about this” damian said with a cold voice, almost making you shiver.
“i know, but what if i really want more? more than just sex? would it be that bad? i think i like you damian” no, you were sure you were in love with him but you didn’t want to scare him away more than you were already doing “and trying for a relationship isn’t so bad after all…”
“listen…y/n, we talked about his. we said no feelings involved, we both agreed, you knew from the beginning that this was just sex, nothing else…” he said and you turned to face him “i don’t understand why are you talking about relationships and stuff like that…it’s not what we agreed on, i’m not someone for relationships and you know that” his eyes were cold, his voice serious and you didn’t want to stay there a second longer.
“no, i know, you’re right…it’s dumb what i said, just forget everything okay?” you said standing from the bed. you definitely didn’t want to spend the night over there so you looked for your clothes, scattered all over the room “i’m gonna go home now…” you said, not looking at him. quickly fixing you up, dressing yourself and putting on shoes, you were ready to go back home.
damian just watched you from his bed. he knew he hurt you. he saw it in your eyes “y/n wait…are you sure you don’t wanna stay? it’s past midnight and it’s raining…”
“i’ll be fine damian, thanks for asking” you didn’t wanna stay there a minute longer as you were about to cry in front of him.
before he could say something else, you were out of his room, out of his house and probably out of his life.
you cried yourself to sleep that night.
you avoided training with him and the judgment day the next few days, instead, you asked drew if he could help you and he was very glad you asked him.
he knew something was off.
everyone noticed how you stopped talking with damian. how you avoided the judgment day, how you asked to be drafted in smack down instead of raw. damian tried to call you but you never picked up. his text messages were left on read.
if he didn’t want anything serious then why did you have to answer him?
rhea knew everything of course. she was the first person you called when damian literally walked all over your heart and broke it into millions of pieces. she also was the first one to tell you that this thing with damian wasn’t going to work because she knew about your crush. but she was the first person to calm you down after what happened that night. even if she didn’t like the idea of not seeing you that often, she understood that you needed space and she was willing to give you all the time you needed.
after one particular training with drew, your mind was wandering off. watching couples in the gym training together, your eyes got a little teary, your mind thinking - why can’t we be together like them?
“you okay?” drew asked and you nodded.
“oh yeah sorry, i got a little distracted…”
“you miss him do you?” he asked, already knowing the answer.
“yeah…” you whispered.
“listen…take this advice from an old man, you’re young, you will fall in love again and again and again, i know it hurts now, especially for how he treated you but it will pass…so, focus more on yourself from now on alright? you have an important match coming your way and even if ill be backstage i won’t be there to help you” he said making you chuckle a little.
the night of the event you knew you would have to see damian and the rest of the group. you were still in raw after all and avoiding them on set was a little hard.
that night you were going to face zoey stark. a friend of yours but a tough wrestler. your mind wasn’t in the right place and everyone realised that but somehow you managed to get the win back home.
but something was very wrong when you felt your head spinning, your temperature dropping and hands shaking a little.
you were hurt but not that bad, at least you thought.
damian saw the look in your eyes from the tv in his changing room and he immediately knew something was off too. he ran towards you, only to be stopped by some guards. you quickly got off the ring and went backstage, it was hard for you to walk, your legs were both hurting and shaking.
you were hurting but not that much, you had worse so why were you having a panic attack?
“hey y/n…hey” damian approached you cautiously but it was like your mind was somewhere else, all you heard were noises, you couldn’t focus on anything else “let’s get you somewhere calm” damian slowly led you towards his changing room and helped you sitting on the black leather couch.
a tear dropped from your eye but you couldn’t understand what was wrong with you.
“hey…shh, it’s okay” he softly said, hugging you in his big arms “you’re okay…you got hurt a little on the ring but you’re okay now”
it wasn’t just about getting hurt in the ring. it was all the emotions you had bottled up in the past days that now were ready to explode. was the fact that damian was treating you with such care yet the last time you talked it seemed like he didn’t want to take care of you.
you just couldn’t handle it anymore and you let yourself cry in his arms.
he knew he was the reason of your breakdown and he hated himself for that.
“i’m sorry i should probably go…” you said once you calmed down.
“no please, don’t” he gently lifted your chin up with his fingers so you could look at him “don’t go again, i can’t stand to see you go, i hate not having you in my life anymore…”
“damian please…”
“let me fix it” he almost begged “let me fix everything…i fucked up, i fucked up really bad and i know i hurt you…”
“what do you want to fix? it’s clear that this thing between us is not gonna work anymore, i caught feeling when we told not to…i have feelings for you and i can’t pretend anymore and it’s pretty clear you don’t feel the same so what do you wanna fix?”
damian saw the hurt in your eyes, he knew that whatever he was going to say, it wouldn’t have worked for you so, he gently wiped your tears away and lowered his lips just to meet yours.
it was a soft kiss, not the ones you were used to. it was full of love, passion. almost like to say sorry. his hands gently touched your face and not your body, again, something you weren’t familiar with “i’m so fucking sorry y/n…” he apologised “these days without you i’ve realised i lost the most important person in my life…it hurts not being with you” he confessed.
“damian what?”
“i have feelings for you, i realised it too late…” and before he could continue to talk you kissed him again.
“say it again”
“i have feelings for you y/n, i like you” he softly smiled against your lips.
“again”
“i like you so much y/n…and i want to fix it, fix everything i broke” he smiled again, his lips never leaving yours.
“okay…”
“okay?”
“yes” you whispered “it will take a while but i want this, i want you”
“i want you too…” his lips started leaving soft kisses all over your face but a slight movement of your legs made you scrunch your face in pain “yeah, we should get you checked up first”
“yup…and then i expect you to take me out for dinner”
“oh trust me, i will” you both ended up laughing at each other.
you knew time would heal all the pain and with damian by your side, you were ready to start again.

Hello!
I saw that you were accepting requests so can I request a Tom Holland ( Spider-Man) x a reader who faints a lot. Like she blacks out multiple times a day. How overprotective would Spidey be? If you can, then maybe can please incorporate Steve Rogers in the story too. I have been obsessed with them..♥️
Please delete if this uncomfortable or bad🙏
I had fun writing this! I hope you like it!
Emergency Tylenol
“I forgot the Tylenol. We need to go back. Actually wait a second. I think…yup! Secret back up Tylenol!” You can’t help but smile as you watch Peter mutter to himself and dig around in his bag. You watch him lay out all the supplies from his bag. “Ok so we’ve got secret back up Tylenol, ibuprofen, ice packs, bandaids, neosporin, your emergency meds, and two water bottles.” He says proudly.
“Peter I promise you don’t need to carry all of this around with you. I have some stuff in my bag. I’ll be fine.” You insist for what must be the millionth time today.
“I absolutely do, sweetheart. As your boyfriend it’s my swore duty to take care of you and I can’t do that if I’m not fully equipped.”
“Peter, we’re literally in a private limo on our way to the Avengers Compound. I don’t think I could be any better taken care of.” He seems to consider your words for a moment before shrugging and opening the bainaid container to reorganize them.
“You could be. Trust me, I keep stats. You’re-“
That was the last thing you heard before everything went black. When you open your eyes you find yourself on a bed in a room that you slowly recognize at Peter’s bedroom in the compound. You look around for any sign of him but only find a bottle of water, some Tylenol, and a note the simply reads
‘Boom. Prepared.’
You can’t help but smile at your boyfriends antics. The ache in your head prompts you to take the pills. You quickly finish the water bottle and slowly get up as to not black out again. After a moment when you’re sure you won’t faint you make your way to the nearest lounge.
“There they are!” Steve says with a soft smile.
“How long was I out for?” You ask as you plop down onto the couch next to him.
“About 20 minutes.”
“I’m coming back around quicker. That’s nice.” Steve nods as he fishes out his phone
“Peter’s in the lab with Tony. I told him I’d text him when you woke up.” He explains while he slowly types on his phone. “You’d think the kid didn’t know what was going on.” He says it with a fond smile.
“We’ve been working on him not being two inches from my face when I wake up.” You say with a laugh. You’ve known Peter since 7th grade and you began dating your sophomore year of high school. Despite that he still treats each black out with meticulous care. “Oh! Guess what!” You say excitedly remembering the whole reason for you coming to the compound today.
“What?” Steve asks with just as much enthusiasm.
“I entered you in an art contest and you won first prize! I submitted that picture you drew of Peter and I.” You quickly scroll through your email looking for the one about the contest results. “Well there not actually a prize, but it’s nice to be acknowledged ya know?” Steve chuckles and leans back a bit to clearly see the screen you’ve shoved in his face. As he reads the email you hear the soft sound of the door to the lounge opening.
“I’m glad to see you’re up and about sweetheart.” Peter says as he comes to lean on the arm rest next to you. “How are you feeling?”
“Well it’s four o’clock and I’ve only blacked out three times today, so pretty good.” Peter gives you a once over before nodding.
“Ima have to steal her for some studying Captain Roger’s.” Your eyes go wide at this.
“Oh no we have that test on Monday!” You groan sinking into your seat.
“Yup. So we gotta get some snacks and get to studying.” Peter takes your hand and pulls you up from the couch before leading you towards one of the kitchens.
“See ya later Steve! Don’t forget to revel in your victory!” You shout as you walk away.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You and Peter have been studying for two hours and you’re starting to feel a little light headed from the stress.
“Why don’t we take a break?” Peter suggests before you can voice your discomfort. You smile gratefully knowing that Peter saw the signs of a black out starting to appear. “Sweetheart, you can tell me when something is getting too much.” He reminds you and you both close your books and migrate from the table to the beanbags where all your snacks are.
“I know. I’m just so worried about this test. I know I’ll probably do fine, but it’s such a big grade.” You sigh as you poke a straw into a juice pouch.
“We’ve been studying for two weeks. We’re gonna do great. It’s Friday why don’t we relax?” You ponder his words for a moment before nodding. “Great. I’ll dim the lights and grab your meds. You pick a movie.” Never in your wildest dreams would you have thought you would find someone. You’ve blacked out three times today and each time Peter was nothing but caring. You take a second to watch Peter as he grabs you some water and your meds before meticulously diming the lights to the setting he knows is perfect when you’re starting to feel faint.
“I love you.” You sigh happily. Peter nearly drops what he’s holding.
“Wh-what was that?” He asks slowly.
“I love you. I never knew I could love someone this much.” You explain. “I’m so happy it’s you I’m in love with.” Peter gets a dopy grin on his face and hops over the couch you sitting on to be next to you. He puts his hands on either side of your face and kisses you all over.
“I love you too!” He practically squeals. You can’t help but giggle and you two slowly settle in on the couch. “It was the emergency Tylenol wasn’t it? No one can resist.” He adds after a moment. You can’t help but burst out laughing.
“Yes Peter, it was the emergency Tylenol.” You and Peter both know that this is it for both of you. No other love could ever feel like this.
Matthew didn’t go immediately.
When Death visited the Dreaming that day, it was just he and Lucienne she was there to see. A quick visit, she said. Informal. Just the three of them in a quiet corner of the library. Because, she said… if anyone deserved to know, it was them.
She smiled that smile of hers, and he swore something that had been broken in his little bird-sized heart started to knit back together.
He would have been gone in an instant, out the window in a flash and demands on his…er…afterlife?… be damned. But Death crooked a finger at him, and leaned down, conspiratorial, to whisper, “Matthew, give them time, okay? It won’t be easy, at first. He’s going to need it.” A quick hand stroking his back feathers, like an apology.
He coughed and studied the wood grain of the desk . “Uh…yeah. I mean…right. Of course. You…you got it, uh, Ma’am.”
But she was already gone.
So, he gave them time.
A month passed, in the Waking, by his reckoning.
How much time was time, Matthew wondered.
What did ‘time’ mean to someone who was a few billion years old? Was a month enough time for the anthropomorphic personification of everybody’s brain-stuff to become Some Guy? How did that even work, anyway? Did he need to, like, solidify? Like a pudding? Probably not the instant stuff. But what the hell did he know about pudding, he’d only ever eaten it out of a little plastic cup.
While he pondered the pudding-to-Endless equivalency method of time measurement, another month passed.
Then one evening, as he perched on one of the palace spires and watched the sun sinking down towards the rippling mirage that concealed the horizon, his patience snapped completely, without warning, and he found himself winging his way into the Waking before his own common sense could sweet talk him out of it.
He landed on the narrow sill outside of a very familiar window. Mellow lamplight spilled through the glass. He could see inside, across the comfortable living room with it’s well-worn couch and cluttered dining table, to the two figures standing together in the small kitchen.
Holy fucking shit, Matthew thought.
He lunged foreword to tap out that familiar little rhythm on the glass— shave and a haircut— and Hob was hustling over to open it in an instant, grinning like a searchlight. Then he was skidding to a stop in the middle of the kitchen counter and before him was
Before him stood
If possible, he seemed even thinner than before— whatever had happened over the past two months had happened to him hard. But he was also…softer. Was that a thing that could be? Standing in the kitchen in a faded blue (blue. blue?) tshirt and threadbare gray sweatpants and smiling. SMILING. He was Some Guy and he was looking at Matthew and smiling.
He was exactly the same. He was entirely different.
“Holy fucking shit,” Matthew said.
Dream leaned his forearms against the counter, bringing himself down to ravens-eye level and said, “Hello Matthew.”
Very eloquently, Matthew said, “Dude.” Then, the floodgates opened and he couldn’t seem to stop. “DUDE. Fuck…it’s…you! It’s you! Look at that! Holy shit! I can’t even…I mean why am I surprised I died and woke up a fucking bird but I mean…look at you!! FUCK!!” He flapped his wings emphatically and stomped, as best he could with his spindly legs. “Goddammit! These…fucking…ARRGH. No thumbs! An’ no arms! I just wanna…HOB. My dude. Would you help me out here????”
Hob, who had been standing by with the expression of someone who had sprained an internal organ with the effort not to laugh, drew a shaky breath and a hand across his mouth and stepped foreword.
“Okay, I think I see. I get you.” He stepped up to Dream, laid broad palms on his narrow shoulders, and said with great formality, “Dream…from Matthew.”
And tugged Dream forward into a crushing, bone-creaking hug, compressing the breath clean out of him.
Dream squeaked like a squeezed balloon and that…that, more than anything else, made it real.
“Yeah,” Matthew said, “That’s the stuff.”
When Hob released him a solid minute later, Dream staggered a bit and caught himself on the counter, looking slightly stunned. But the smile was back, tugging up the corners of his mouth.
“I…I thank you, Matthew,” He said. “I missed you as well.”
Matthew looked down at his skinny little bird feet, listening to the sound of his claws clicking as he fidgeted. He felt…what was this? Shy. When the hell had shy ever happened to him? Never, that’s when. Fuck that. Matthew cleared his throat and looked up at the pair standing there beaming at him under the gold kitchen lights. “So, uh. What’cha up to? Got any big plans for…uh…for your afterlife tonight?”
“Ah. Hob is teaching me how to.” Dream paused. “Not set the stove on fire. We are making—what is this?” He plucked a small box off the countertop and studied it. “Pudding. Apparently.”
The sound Matthew made would have been pppPPPpppffffftttttt if he’d had lips. Which he didn’t, so the noise that actually came out was more or less indescribable.
“It’s a step up from tinned soup,” Hob said. “Progress is being made.”
Dream slanted him a look and picked up the can of whip cream, fiddling with the nozzle. “I did make perfectly adequate tinned soup. The second time. I believe I will be more than capable of—“ The rest of the sentence was obliterated by the sound of aerosolized dairy product spurting across his face.
Dream sighed.
Hob turned around to face the refrigerator, his shoulders shaking silently, organs once again in peril.
“…Oh man,” Matthew said. “This is gonna be great.”
Part One [ Previous 〡 Next ]
“Stop. Moving.” Ghost commanded, his voice low, gruff, and demanding. Each syllable dripped with an authority that was hard to ignore.
“But I can’t get comfortable,” you protested, your voice softer, almost meek in comparison. You shifted again, trying to find a suitable position in his lap.
“I don’t care. Just stop,” Ghost continued, his voice maintaining that low, stern tone that made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. His warm breath brushed against your sensitive skin, sending a cascade of shivers tumbling down your spine each time he exhaled. Despite his simple orders, you couldn’t stop sliding down his legs. Your dress kept creeping up your thighs, revealing the delicate flesh beneath with each involuntary move.
If you’d been facing Ghost, you’d have glimpsed the shadows of desire darkening his gaze, a silent thunderstorm brewing as his eyes traced the contours of your legs. You would have caught him in a stolen moment, picturing what it would be like to bury his face in between your thighs, to taste you, to feel you writhing beneath him. His fingers twitched, longing to touch you, to feel your skin beneath his. He wished he could make you squirm and hear your moans—he wished he could tease and torment you the way you teased him.
However, the only problem was that you were not doing it intentionally. At least, that’s what he assumed. After all, you were his friend. Nothing more, nothing less.
Yet, you were his guilty pleasure, a forbidden fruit he couldn’t taste. You were the last thought that crossed his mind before he surrendered to sleep and the first one that greeted him when he woke up. Of course, he would never admit these feelings aloud, as if their utterance would shatter the fragile facade he had constructed. And he would certainly never confess any of this to you. Chasing girls and being in a relationship were not his top priorities; he had other more important things to focus on. He didn’t want to be tied down by commitments. But it didn’t stop him from fantasising about what it would be like to have you for just one night. To see you with your hands bound above your head, laying in his bed, begging him to touch you.
After all, he was only a man. A man with primal desires and urges that demanded to be satisfied. But he was also your lieutenant, your superior. Plus, there was the fact that you were significantly younger than him. So, despite the magnetic pull that you unknowingly exerted, an unseen force that drew him towards you like a moth to a flame, he had made a solemn vow to himself. He would never lose control, he would never give in...
As the vehicle jolted around another sharp turn, a grunt of dissatisfaction escaped your lips. This was the umpteenth time you had to readjust your position: an inconvenience you honestly could do without. Especially since you were growing increasingly aware of the prickling tension. Carefully, you hoisted yourself up, tugging your dress back down, which had rebelliously hitched up, revealing more than intended.
Ghost, on the other hand, was locked in a silent battle of his own. His eyes clenched shut like a fortress under siege. He took in a deep, measured breath as if diving into an ocean of calm, striving to divert his attention from the growing heat in his body. The dangerously close proximity to you was playing a tantalizing game with his self-control.
“Stop moving, Y/N,” Ghost found himself repeating the same phrase he had been uttering for the past quarter of an hour. He had initially attempted to keep his hands to himself, but your constant movement and readjustments made that task increasingly difficult. Now, you could feel his palms subtly creeping up your sides until they found a resting spot at your waist. His fingers dug into your flesh, providing a sense of stability amid the chaotic drive.
“I can’t. I keep slipping,” you sighed in response, the frustration apparent in your tone. His hands, however, remained steadfast on your waist, anchoring you in his lap.
The day had started off on a rather laid back note. With a day free from duty, your team had decided to make the most of it by heading out for some drinks. It was a welcome change, a chance to let loose before the seriousness of the next mission took over. The journey to the pub was divided between two cars. Soap and Gaz were entrusted to stay sober and ensure everyone made it back safely. But Gaz had broken that promise, leaving everyone to squeeze into one car on the way back to the base.
The lack of sufficient seating meant that you, being the smallest (though you vehemently argued that it was unjust criteria), ended up in Ghost’s lap. You hadn’t anticipated it to be a significant issue. But with his continuous complaints ringing in your ear, you couldn’t help but wish you had opted to walk back instead.
As the drive wore on, Ghost’s fingers, like a sculptor’s chisel on marble, etched deeper into your waist, creating a discomfort that was becoming difficult to ignore. To ease it, you placed your hands on his wrists and attempted to gently tug at them, hoping to soften his grip. Despite your attempts, though, he resisted, maintaining his firm hold on you.
With little option left, you slumped back, surrendering to the pull of gravity. Your body to nestled comfortably into Ghost’s chest. Your head rested on his broad shoulders, providing a sense of comfort as the vehicle continued to traverse the gravel roads. Approximately fifteen minutes remained before you would reach the base.
Ghost, seemingly perplexed by your actions, turned to face you. “What are you doing?” He asked, his voice echoing through the confined space. In response, you tilted your head slightly as well, allowing your eyes to meet his. However, your gaze soon drifted downwards, towards his mask, as you found yourself unable to maintain the eye contact.
“Getting comfortable,” you replied, your voice just a whisper. The tendrils of fatigue began to curl around you. Your eyelids fluttered closed, each blink growing heavier and heavier.
The car fell silent.
As you sat there, embraced by Ghost’s arms, you could feel his breath on your neck. The steady, rhythmic rise, and fall of his chest acted as a soothing lullaby, luring you towards the edge of sleep. You knew you should have fought to stay awake, but his body radiated warmth, providing a stark contrast to the exhaustion that had washed over you from the evening’s festivities of dancing and drinking. Before you knew it, you had drifted off, your nose nuzzled into the crook of Ghost’s neck.
Caught up in his own thoughts, he didn’t immediately realise that you had succumbed to sleep. It wasn’t until the car came to a gentle halt that he felt something moist against the side of his mask. You had drooled all over him. A groan of disbelief rumbled in his chest as he shook his head in disbelief.
“Y/N... Y/N.. wake up.” His voice was quiet, a softness that was uncharacteristic of him. He contemplated grabbing your shoulders and shaking you awake, but decided against it, knowing that you were not one to take kindly to abrupt awakenings. Instead, he allowed you to continue sleeping for a bit longer, listening as you muttered incoherently to yourself, your eyes tightly shut.
Emerging from the clutches of sleep was like wading through a sea of molasses, slow and laborious. But eventually, both of you managed to exit the car. By this time, the rest of the team had already scattered, leaving just the two of you.
You rubbed your face, coaxing the tiredness out of your muscles like wringing out a wet cloth, and yawned. Your weary eyes swept over the barren expanse of the parking lot.
“You drooled on me,” Ghost said, his gaze steady on you. Caught off guard, you raised your brows but chose to remain silent in a futile attempt to maintain your cool demeanor. However, your face betrayed you as it started to radiate heat and your cheeks blossomed with a rosy blush, turning a bright shade of pink. This unexpected display of embarrassment stood in stark contrast to your usual composed self.
In the midst of the awkward silence, Ghost reached into his pocket and pulled out a cigarette. With a swift motion, he lifted his balaclava, unveiling his lips, which soon held the cigarette with an ease born of habit. Despite being a non-smoker, you found yourself captivated by the sight of him lighting up his cigarette and drawing a deep inhale. Something about it sparked a desire within you, a curiosity you hadn’t felt before.
Feeling audacious, you stepped forward and asked, “Can I have one?” Your head tilted to the side. A hint of anticipation twinkled in your eyes. Ghost, however, shook his head in denial, causing a childish pout to adorn your face.
“You can’t. You don’t smoke.” Ghost’s words were matter-of-fact. A dash of amusement was evident in his tone. You responded with an exaggerated roll of your eyes, scoffing at his statement that merely reiterated the obvious.
You took a single, decisive step closer to him, deliberately narrowing the gap that had been lingering between you two. A flutter of hesitation clouded your actions for a moment, but the alluring, intoxicating scent of smoke wafting in the air coaxed you into action. You reached out, your fingers outstretched to snatch the still-burning cigarette from his grasp after he exhaled a stream of smoke into the night air. Ghost, for his part, didn’t utter a word. He simply stood there, his gaze on you. You mimicked his earlier actions, took a few measured drags from the cigarette before placing it back between his lips, all the while not moving an inch away and keeping your eyes fixed on him.
Ghost’s eyebrows arched in surprise, an obvious attempt to hide the smile that was slowly beginning to creep onto his face. He let out a low chuckle, shaking his head in a casual, almost dismissive manner. “First, you blatantly ignore me when I tell you to stop moving. Then you have the audacity to fall asleep and drool on me. And now, you dare to steal my cigarette,” he stated, the tone of his voice teetering between amusement and disbelief.
You shrugged, the corners of your mouth twitching upwards in a subtle hint of a sly smile. “Don’t act like you mind.”
And the truth was, he didn’t mind. In fact, he loved it, the way a parched wanderer would love a drop of water in the desert. Your unapologetic authenticity intrigued him. It challenged him, made him question the vows he had made to himself daily. Perhaps you were worth the risk, a gamble he was willing to play, a game he was willing to lose.
Buried deep within him, like a secret locked away in a forgotten chest, he knew without a shred of doubt that if you ever decided to see more than just a friend in him, he would have willingly surrendered to you. But now, despite the longing that gnawed at him, like a wolf tearing at its prey, he held back, resolved to protect you from himself, not daring to taint your innocence with his touch.
Ohhh... If only he had known that you harbored the same feelings deep within your heart - that you yearned for his touch, his eyes on you, that his presence was an unyielding constant in your thoughts, driving you to the brink of insanity - perhaps the night would have unfolded differently.
But neither of you had the courage to confess. Neither of you took that daunting first step, instead choosing to pretend that you were indifferent - each of you acting as if you desired nothing more in life than to remain friends... Friends that flirted, stole sneaky looks, and couldn’t get each other out of their minds.
Nothing more, nothing less. Just friends, like two stars in the night sky, forever close yet galaxies apart.
It took Callum a minute to pinpoint what woke him. The ache in his chest, while acute, was no stronger than it had been when he’d slipped into sleep. The wind rustled the trees outside, but in a way that was gentle and static. A way that made the sharp, shuddering sounds coming from beside him all the more obvious in comparison.
“Rayla? Are you crying?”
He fully expected to push him away, to deny it.
“Yeah,” she said instead.
He sat up, and she did too, allowing him to wrap his arms around her from behind and hold her while the sobs wracked her body until her breathing evened and she leaned limply against him.
There was no point in asking why she was crying. But in Callum’s long experience with grief, he’d come to realize that waves were often brought on by different triggers, came to surface in different ways. It wasn’t always a bludgeon that knocked you flat with the overwhelming reality of absence. Too often, it was a million knives, each uniquely sharpened by a different memory or missed experience, all of them ready to cut you in a different way than the last.
“What are you thinking about?” he asked softly.
“My mom’s moonberry surprise. You can get it at any café in the Silvergrove, and Ethari always made it for my birthday, but no one made it quite like her.” A wet, mirthless laugh tore from her throat. “Isn’t that stupid? She and my dad are gone forever, and I’m thinking about food. I mean— I had years to get over all this after they were banished. I’ve been getting along without them all this time. I don’t know why it’s all hitting me all over again.”
Callum bit his lip, trying to call on the part of him that had been born from a poet, trying to call on the words that would make her feel not only understood but heard.
“My first memory of my dad is also my last one,” he said softly.
Rayla stiffened in his arms, turning around to look at him.
“It’s actually my first memory ever. Mom told me Dad was holding me, and she was holding him, so we were all together in a knot. It’s really hazy, but I can feel… arms around me, this sense of warmth. This wet breathing— my dad, probably, or maybe my mom crying. And then… stillness.” Callum sighed. “My only memory of my dad was of him dying. I shouldn’t miss him, right? I’ve lived my whole life without him, practically, and I had Harrow to fill in the gaps he left. But there are… times when I want to be held, but no one does it quite right. Foods that my mom says I’ve loved all my life, things he made, that just don’t taste as good as they should. Conversations I have with him when I can’t sleep, even though I have no idea how he’d reply.”
He paused, waiting for Rayla to step on the bridge he’d built between them, to offer her own feelings on the difference between her birth parents and her adoptive ones, the ways grief had crept into her own life. Instead, her response came from an entirely different quarter.
“Your very first memory,” she rasped, “is of being left.” She closed her eyes tightly. “I told myself I was being so noble, so sacrificing, and I left you. Just like our parents did to us.”
Callum cupped her face and gently brought it to his, pressing a quick, soft kiss against her lips. “No, you didn’t,” he whispered, resting his forehead against hers. “You’re right here.”
Feeling her brow wrinkle in confusion, he pulled back and took her hand, tugging her to her feet. “Come on. Let’s go for a walk.”
They slipped out of the Nexus’s guest bedroom and into the garden, wrapping their arms around each other as a defense against the chill in the wind. Rayla followed him silently down a stone stairwell, coming to a stop with him when they reached the metal bench at its base.
“Do you remember this place?” Callum asked.
She nodded. “It’s where we really talked for the first time about what happened to the king.”
“That’s right.” Callum drew her down to sit on the bench, facing him, in the exact position they’d been in two years before. “That day… it was the worst day I’ve ever had, aside from when I found out about my mom. Even worse than the day I read your letter. Because being left by someone is awful, but there’s nothing worse than knowing for certain they’re never coming back. Of course you’re grieving your parents, Rayla. It’s a different kind of loss.
“I was so angry with you when you first came back, because as the years had gone by, I’d begun to believe you were the second kind of gone, and it was almost too much to bear. I thought, if I pushed you away, I wouldn’t have to deal with that kind of pain again. But the day I got the news about Harrow, when I felt like the emptiness inside me was going to eat me alive, do you know the only thing that made me feel better? It was your arms around me. It was knowing that no matter how much pain I was in, I would still have a champion to fall back on, someone brave and kind and devoted who would always be there to help me carry the weight if it got to be too much.” He leaned forwards and kissed her forehead. “And I was right.”
Rayla had started to cry again, and he gently wiped the tears away. “You were always intending to come back, and you did. I never should have pushed you away, and I’m so glad you never let me. I’m so glad you’re still here. And Rayla, I’m going to be here too. Dealing with this, knowing your parents are really gone for good, it’s not going to be easy. It’s always going to hurt. But I’m going to do everything I can to help you bear it, and I’m going to build a life with you around it. As long as we’re together, we’ll find a way through.”
“And we will be together.”
Rayla’s tears had dried, and her voice was fierce. She took his hand tightly in both of hers and pressed a firm kiss against it.
“No more losses,” she vowed.
“Been there, done that,” he agreed, and she actually managed a tiny smile.
“I’m scared,” she admitted. “I don’t know what comes next. But no matter what it is, I’m going to be right by your side. I promise.”
The corners of Callum’s lips turned up too. “It’s a deal.”
She wrapped her arms around him, and he held her tightly, catching her as she’d caught him, as he knew with a glowing certainty they would do for each other as long as they were able. And they stayed there, fortified against the cold, against the ache of lost souls and the terror of distant smoke, until the first rays of a sunrise blanketed them with their warmth.
Swapped (part 2)
Incredibles au power swap pt. 2! Checking in on some of the other boys, who are... struggling lol.
Part 1 | Next
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hyrule woke up feeling cold.
A shiver went through him as he slowly came back to awareness, the cold feeling sinking into his very bones, and he wondered why whatever he was lying on was so hard and uncomfortable.
Why did his chest hurt? Why was he so cold? He hadn’t woken up like this since...
Since...
Panic smacked into him, and Hyrule‘s eyes flew open, his heart thudding as he looked around. He took in the unfamiliar walls around him, piles of rubble and dirt, and right as his heart began to pound with fear, he saw Time waking up, a hand held to his chest.
Hyrule sighed in relief, and carefully sat up himself, immediately feeling better. If dad was here, he wasn’t back on the streets, or... worse.
But... that didn’t really answer the question of where he actually was.
Before Hyrule could try and figure it out though, someone let out a panicked gasp. Hyrule jumped and turned around, and saw Wild sitting on the ground a few feet away, looking on the verge of hysterical.
“I’m— I’m slow,” Wild choked out, and Hyrule blinked in confusion as he watched Twilight stumble to his feet beside him, a hand held to his head.
“Wild, it’s all right,” Twilight said, taking a step, then yelped as he somehow went running across the room and straight into a wall. “Ow!”
“You took my speed!” Wild wailed, and Hyrule stared, watching as Twilight tried to get to his feet, but fell over again when his legs went too fast for him. He did a quick glance around the hallway, not seeing anyone else apart from his two brothers and dad. If he had to guess, the rest of his family was probably blocked off by the wall that had collapsed.
...Which had collapsed because of a weird explosion that had also knocked them all out. Right. Now he remembered.
Time properly sat up and looked at Wild and Twilight, his face creased with concern... and a little pain, Hyrule thought. Wild stopped yelling when he saw their dad move, but he still looked panicked, and it seemed like Twilight was afraid to move, his expression confused and fearful.
“Boys what is going on?” Time asked, and Twilight wrapped his arms around himself.
“I don’t know, I woke up and couldn’t hear barely anything and then Wild started yelling and somehow I have his speed and I can’t turn into a wolf,” he said rapidly, clutching at his hair.
“And now I don’t have anything!” Wild added, looking on the verge of tears.
Hyrule blinked, and an even colder feeling ran through him as he digested that. It looked like the explosion had done more than just collapse the wall and knock them out... it had also messed up Wild and Twilight’s powers.
...were they the only ones?
Hyrule quickly drew on his own powers, just to reassure himself nothing was wrong with them. He tried healing first, summoning a blue glow to his hands, but then the icy feeling that had been with him even since he’d woken up suddenly intensified, and Hyrule‘s stomach lurched.
The blue glow was the wrong color.
He tried again, more frantically, but the blue continued to be the wrong color, cold instead of the usual warm, and ice began to spread out from where Hyrule sat, only increasing his panic. Trying to shield brought up no results either, and Hyrule drew desperately on the strange cold power he could feel inside of him, trying to make it heal, to make it shield, do anything it was supposed to be doing.
All he could produce was ice.
Hyrule gasped, trying to stay calm, but not succeeding in the slightest at keeping back the wave of panic that was crashing over him.
What was happening? Anything he tried just kept turning into ice, shielding didn’t work, healing didn’t work, his...
His powers were gone.
The one thing he’d been able to rely on his entire life.
Hyrule felt his breath pick up, his heart pounding as more ice spread out from him. He wouldn’t be able to shield people anymore, protect himself and others from danger, he couldn’t heal, he wouldn’t be able to do anything if he or anyone else got hurt, all he could make was ice and ice and ice—
“Hyrule,” a voice said, and Hyrule looked up and saw his father had joined his side, a worried look on his face.
“Dad— I can’t— I can’t get my shield up,” Hyrule managed to choke out, clutching at his hair. “And my healing, it’s not working, it’s just ice—”
“Hyrule calm down,” Time reassured, holding out a hand.
“Why— why is it doing this, I— wait, don’t touch me! I’ll freeze you!” Hyrule choked as his father kneeled beside him, and Time ignored his words, taking his hands in his own.
They felt... warm.
“Hyrule, I’ve dealt with Warriors’ powers more times than I can count, you won’t freeze me. Calm down,” Time continued, and Hyrule’s brain stuck for a second on the phrasing. Warriors’ powers? “Focus on reining them in. It should be like your own powers, just a little different. Relax.”
Hyrule sucked in a deep breath, thinking slowly through Time’s words and trying to do what he said. He carefully pulled on the strange powers he had, trying to make the cold ease back and stop escaping from him like a leaky faucet, and the ice began to slow in its spread.
Encouraged by the results, he focused a littler harder, and the ice stalled as he took in more deep breaths, finally tamping his panic down to something more manageable. The ice had stopped, and he felt a little less cold as his hands stopped glowing.
The lack of warmth in his middle from both his powers was still terrifying, but Hyrule thought he could... work with it now.
...Maybe.
Hyrule let out one last shaky exhale, and Time squeezed his shoulder, Hyrule leaning into it and feeling much calmer.
“...thanks Dad,” he sighed, and Time nodded.
He stayed next to him for another few moments, letting him continue to calm down, but then Twilight yelped again, and Time drew back with a sigh. He pulled his hand off of Hyrule’s shoulder, but as he drew back, Hyrule let out a startled squeak.
Everything below his father’s elbow was missing.
Time jumped, a truly shocked look on his face, but before he could do anything, his fingers flickered back into view like they’d never been gone at all.
Hyrule and Time both stared at them, and Hyrule watched as Time’s arm abruptly faded out of view again, appearing and disappearing at random.
“You... have Legend’s invisibility?” he said hesitantly, beginning to get an idea of what might be going on, and his father slowly nodded, staring intensely at his hand. Whatever he was trying to do didn’t seem to work though, and he sighed, standing up and helping Hyrule stand as well.
“It looks like it. And you have Warriors’ ice, and Twilight has Wild’s speed,” Time said, and winced as Twilight tripped and landed on his face. “Twilight?”
“Fine,” his son called back weakly, and Time led Hyrule over to where Wild was still sitting in a mild panic.
He patted the both of them on the shoulder, looking into their eyes for a moment, then walked over to Twilight. Wild looked nearly as shaken as Hyrule felt, if not more, but he merely leaned against Hyrule’s arm, Hyrule leaning on him in return.
Looking at how unsettled Wild appeared, Hyrule wasn’t sure if he’d prefer having the ice he currently had, or the nothing Wild seemed to posses.
“Come on Twilight, you can stand,” Time said as he walked away, and Hyrule and Wild both watched him. Twilight was sitting up, but he still looked afraid to move, his face anxious. “You can do it.”
“I’ll just trip again! Why am I so fast all of a sudden? I don’t want Wild’s speed, I can barely hear anything like this or smell anything and I can’t turn into a wolf!” he said rapidly, and Time slowly helped him up.
“I believe our enemy decided to test something on us,” Time said, and Hyrule thought back to what the voice on the intercom had said. That would explain the test subject thing. “And if I'm right... somehow he switched around our powers.”
“But that’s not possible,” Wild spoke up as Time carefully guided Twilight over to them, “you can’t just... switch powers! That’d be like me and Hyrule randomly switching heads!”
“Well somehow he’s done it,” Twilight grimaced.
“And we’ll probably have to stop him to get our proper powers back,” Time sighed, watching as his fingers disappeared from view again.
Hyrule looked around at his family, more then half of them missing from the room, Twilight pale with anxiety, Wild still unhappy about being slow, random bits of their father occasionally disappearing from view.
This... just got a lot more complicated.
Wild looked at Time’s arms, watching as they randomly faded in and out of view, and a grin suddenly stretched across his face, wide and mischievous.
“Dad, did you get both of Legend’s powers?” he asked, and Hyrule and Twilight both turned to look at him as well, Hyrule unable to stop his smile as he realized what he meant.
“I have no idea. And even if I did, I’m not testing it right now,” he said dryly, and Wild and Hyrule both made disappointed noises. “Sorry boys. We need to focus on fixing this mess.”
“Have you tried to contact anyone yet?” Twilight asked, and Time shook his head, pulling out his communication device.
“That’s what I was on to next. I think it’s safe to say everyone’s powers got messed up, so it’s unlikely Artemis is going to come find us.”
“Unless whoever got her powers does,” Wild pointed out, and Twilight shook his head.
“I doubt it. We can barely control the ones we got. I mean, if I’d gotten intangibility, I don’t think I would want to test it by trying to walk through a collapsed wall.”
Hyrule winced. That was a good point. It probably wouldn’t end well if whoever got Artemis’s powers couldn’t use them very well, and accidentally came back in the middle of the wall.
Time busied himself with trying to get his radio working, and Twilight did his best to help him, his leg jittering so rapidly it blurred a bit. Hyrule looked back at Wild, his brother looking miserable, then ignored the urge to shiver as he drew his knees up to his chest.
Why did Warriors’ powers have to be so cold? He thought his uncle had said that the cold didn’t even bother him, why was Hyrule so freezing?
Why couldn't they just be straight-forward like mine?
Hyrule sighed and glanced back at Wild again, frowning when he saw his expression had dimmed even further while he watched Twilight’s leg jitter rapidly in place.
“Are you alright Wild?” Hyrule asked, and Wild shrugged, making the face he made when he was trying to appear unbothered.
“Yeah. I’m fine. You’re... kinda pale though,” he said, looking over Hyrule. "You okay?"
Hyrule shrugged, trying not to look as shaken as he still felt. He knew Wild probably just wanted to help, but he was pretty sure if he thought about his switched-up-also-missing powers too long he’d cry.
Wild somehow read his expression though, and after a moments hesitation, put his arm around Hyrule’s shoulder, giving him a little squeeze.
“It’ll be okay,” Wild said. “We’ll figure it out, Roolie.”
And for some reason Hyrule believed him, the words like a warm blanket on his still-shaky nerves. He near-immediately relaxed, and Wild looked at him in surprise as he leaned on him more, before realization flirted across his face.
“Oh. I got Mom’s,” he said, and Hyrule looked at him weirdly.
“Huh?”
“I got Mom’s powers. You know, she has her whole horse-soothing voice she uses, it’s really good at calming down horses and other animals. I... guess it also works on people?” Wild said hesitantly. “At least I think that’s what that was.”
Hyrule blinked, not sure how he felt about that. But for some reason the thought didn’t seem too worrying, so he shrugged, and set his head on Wild’s shoulder. He was nice and warm, and helped chase away some of the chill.
“Guess so. We’ll have to find a horse so you can test it,” Hyrule murmured, and Wild let out a quiet laugh.
A sigh caught their attentions, and the two looked over at Time and Twilight, both of their face grim.
“No luck,” Time said as he put his radio away with a frown. “It's being blocked. Looks like we’re on our own for now.”
“We should try and find the others then, right?” Twilight asked. “Because not to underestimate us right now, but uh... I don’t know if we can take on this scientist guy in the state we’re in.”
“I could,” Wild said with a bite to his voice. “I’m going to punch that jerk right in the mouth for taking my speed.”
“We were all headed for the top floor when we were ambushed, we’ll continue heading that way,” Time decided, rolling his shoulder. “The others will doubtlessly be working their way that direction as well, so we’ll try to meet up with them on the way. Are you all good to go?” he asked, looking at Twilight and Hyrule especially.
Hyrule nodded, and Twilight glared at his feet, then sighed.
“Yeah. I can walk.”
“Good. Let’s get going then,” Time said with a nod.
And as he took a step forward, he was suddenly doused in shadows.
Everyone jumped, and Hyrule stared as the shadows grew smaller, condensing most intensely by the floor. He had a brief moment of panic before he recognized what the shadows meant, and he froze, exchanging quick glances with his siblings.
The shadows faded away mere moments later, and a small, one-eyed rabbit was left sitting dazedly on the ground.
Hyrule, Wild, and Twilight stared.
Then Wild fell to the floor laughing, and Hyrule bit his lip to stop his own from escaping, the rabbit that was now their father twitching his nose in alarm. He shouldn’t laugh, he really shouldn’t, but Time was so small, and fluffy, and seeing his father as a rabbit of all things was just...
Hyrule couldn’t help his giggle, and Twilight knelt beside Time, their father swiveling his ears in his direction and giving him a wide-eyed look.
“Are you, um, okay Dad?” Twilight asked, his mouth twitching, and Time blinked once or twice, before letting out a rather squeaky sigh.
“I’m fine. Come on, the sooner we fix this the better,” he grumbled, voice slightly squeaky, and began hopping in the direction they’d planned to go in.
Wild finally stopped laughing, though it was a close thing when he saw Time hopping determinedly across the floor. Twilight followed after their father, and Hyrule and Wild trailed behind, Wild still letting out an occasional giggle.
"I guess that answers the question of whether he has both of Legend's powers," he snickered, and Hyrule shook his head in disbelief. This day couldn't get any weirder.
Twilight lifted Time up to sit on his shoulder after only a minute or two of walking, their father's face surprisingly grim for a rabbit, and Hyrule glanced at them, anxiety still churning in his stomach.
He still felt a little shaky and unsure from the shock of his powers being gone, worried for the rest of their group, and Time being a mostly-defenseless rabbit only added another layer to that. But Wild seemed confident, and Twilight and Time were both putting on brave faces, so Hyrule decided he would be too.
They could do this. They’d stop the scientist guy, and make him fix this.
Screwed up powers or not.
And Hyrule kept telling himself that, even when Twilight lost control of his legs again and smacked into a wall mere moments later.
Tick, tick, tick.
In the darkness of your bedroom, you listened to the quiet sound of Jake’s pocket watch and tried to settle your breathing to the rhythm of it. Usually the sound was soothing, a reminder of the way Jake had filled up the quiet parts of your life and your home with a heartbeat of dependability and comfort. You tried to remind yourself of that now as you listened to the soft coppery music of it, but even its steadiness didn't help quiet the knot of sadness and anxiety in your chest.
You didn't know why you felt like this. Sometimes it just crept up on you, a tangle of feelings that had no explanation or obvious cure. They’d come less frequently with Jake, but nothing could stop them completely; you just had to ride it out, hanging on to what you knew was true, letting it wash over you until it was through.
You turned towards Jake, saw the soft curve of his bare shoulder in the moonlight filtering though the curtains. You didn’t want to wake him; you knew he was tired from a long day at the studio, and he needed his rest. You moved close to him, pressing against his back, wrapping an arm around his waist as you tried to get warm against him.
He moved his hand to rest over yours, holding you securely against him. Even in sleep, he was attuned to you; you felt a sob catch in your chest and rested your head against his back.
“Sparrow.” His voice was gravelly with sleep, soft and soothing. He drew your hand up to rest near his heart.
“Sorry,” you said softly, even as you felt the sting of tears. “I didn’t mean to wake you up.”
He turned his head towards you a little. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” you lied. “Go back to sleep, honey.”
“Are you sick?” he asked. “Bad dream?”
You shook your head. “Just...” You felt so guilty for waking him, for not even having an explanation when you did.
“I don’t know,” you said brokenly. “I don’t know what’s wrong.”
He turned to face you then, pulling you close, tangling his legs with yours under the blanket.
“You’re crying,” he said, brushing tears from your face. “Are you sad?”
“I guess,” you said, your voice barely above a whisper. “I don’t feel good, Jake.”
He hummed and brushed your hair back from your face. “In your body? Or in your heart?”
You couldn’t help a wobbly little smile, endeared to the simplicity of his questions while he was still half-asleep.
“In my heart,” you said. “I can’t sleep. I’m sorry I woke you.”
He didn't say anything for a few moments, and you’d thought he’d gone back to sleep. You didn’t hold it against him; you knew he was tired, and you knew this didn’t constitute a real crisis that he needed to be awake for.
Then, with a sleepy sigh, he pulled you close and hugged you tight.
“I think you need a hug, sparrow,” he said softly.
“Yeah,” you agreed, moving close to him.
You were a little surprised when he pulled away then, and you were confused when he sat up and started to pull up the hem of your sleep shirt.
“It’s like that kangaroo thing,” he said. “We should try that.”
Bemused, you let him ease your shirt off until both of you were in nothing but your underwear.
“What kangaroo thing?” you asked, wondering if he was maybe still asleep.
He lay back next to you and drew you as close as he could, your bare chest against his. His skin was warm and soft, and just the contact made you feel better.
“You know how they do for babies right after they’re born,” he said, running his hand up and down your back. “I think it’s called kangaroo care. Skin-to-skin contact.”
You gave a soft laugh, finally understanding. “Oh. Yeah, I guess you're right.”
“I’m always right,” he said. He kissed your face. “Is it helping?”
You nodded. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, sweetheart.”
You lay like that for a while, chest to chest, listening to the rhythm of each other’s breathing in the quiet of your bedroom. It was intimate, tender, patient; as he knew it would be, it was exactly what you needed. Gentle touches started to wander, and you eventually felt him warm to your touch.
“Jake,” you said mildly.
“Yeah, I know,” he said with a slight grimace. “Sorry. Ignore it.”
You smiled. “What if I don’t want to ignore it?”
You drew your leg over his thigh and heard his sharp intake of breath.
“We don’t have to,” he said, and you knew he meant it. “I wasn’t trying to get frisky when I started this. I just wanted to help.”
“It is helping,” you said softly, pressing your mouth to his in a gentle kiss. It wasn’t what you’d planned either, and you knew his intentions had been innocent, but you couldn’t think of anything you wanted more than to be as close to him as you could.
His hands moved lower on your back, trailing between your legs, slow and patient.
“We can stop any time you want,” he reminded you. “Really, sparrow.”
You kissed him again. “I know. I don’t want you to stop.”
You enjoyed long moments of his touch, warming to your desire, comforted and soothed by the tenderness with which he traced you like a beloved thing. When both of you were completely bare and vulnerable to the other, he moved to hover over you, cradling you close with one hand on the small of your back, tucking you into the protective lee of his body.
“Go slow,” you said.
“Of course, my love.”
He eased into you slowly, patiently, never thinking of himself as he filled you and held you close. You breathed a sigh of relief as he settled, awash in the comfort and familiarity of the feeling of him inside and out.
“Thank you,” you said. You held him close. “I needed this. I needed you.”
He kissed you. “My sweet sparrow. You always have me, you know that.”
He kept you there for a while, waiting patiently for you, telling you how much he loved you, his voice a lullaby.
“Beautiful,” he said softly, peppering your face with gentle kisses. “You’re so beautiful. I love you, Sparrow.”
“I love you,” you said. You started to move against him, and you loved the way his breath caught.
It was slow and soft and gentle, pleasure cresting with all the tenderness of a wave against a shore. You felt tears come again, your chest tight with love for him, and he brushed them away with a soft touch.
“Don’t cry, sparrow,” he said, his voice soft with compassion. “Are you alright?”
You kissed him, trying to tell him in more than words how much you loved him, how thankful you were for him.
“I’m perfect,” you said. “Thank you for loving me like you do.”
He sighed, relieved and tender for you, kissing you with every gentleness, and his touch eased every bit of the tangle in your chest until all you felt was warmth and safety.
“I love you, Jake,” you said softly.
He kissed you again.
“I love you too, sparrow. More than I could ever tell you.”
Any thoughts on Terry being truly scared that he could have lost Daniel (supposing that Daniel was stabbed instead) and he goes to the hospital while Daniel recovers. Danny is surprised at how…soft and gentle Terry is with him, treating him like glass, and realizes that Terry was terrified of losing him.
I’ll try to answer this without having the fill by @thereminwriting influence me too much but I am going to take the idea of Terry being the one who saved him because it adds another layer of 🌶️ to the whole fucked up situation. There may be some overlap with Mercy but, with Silverusso there always is, as the themes with them are always the same.
Link below for her take - a suggestion to read it as it’s brilliant! It will live rent free.
What this ask inspired, while I feel hits some points made in the ask it may ultimately fail to hit the mark for exactly what you were looking for.
“You think you’d be grateful, is all,” Terry says, picking at some imaginary lint on the bed, which is not there. They both know that. The place is pristine, more high end hotel than hospital. The thread count on the bedsheets has to be higher than what he has at home, and he is an admitted snob when it comes to his night time comforts.
“Gratitude?” Daniel says slowly, like he’s both processing what Terry said and also surprised he’d even say it.
If it wasn’t for the dull ache in his side, the way he can feel the stitches and staples pull when he moves he’d do something stupid. As it were though.
“Gratitude, gratitude,” his voice rising, and then suddenly Daniel just deflates, that little bit of anger burning through the little energy he has built up.
That scared Terry more than anything. His boy’s fire was always so bright, so warm to bask in, so strong and big, despite the small frame it lived inside. That was why it came out so often, too big for it’s confines, never truly able to be contained at all times.
A fire that drew Terry to it like a moth to a flame, no matter how hard he tried to ignore it’s seductive allure. Helpless in the knowledge that like the moth stunned and destroyed by the light it sought, he too would die by it’s heat.
He could’ve think of a better way to go though.
Softly, “it’s just another cage, Terry.”
“Never pegged you as the religious type,” Terry says after a few long moments.
He’s not, not really. He goes through the rituals of it - mass on Christmas Eve - stopping only when his kids got older and Amanda admitted she was only going for him, and he had to admit he really didn’t know why he did, except that he did when he was a kid.
Daniel looks at the keychain’s pendant in his hand, the keychain having been ripped off and stretched to pick the lock of the cage, and he hadn’t even realized, at the time when he bought it what it was, he had simply handed the kid over some money.
He only kept it because he considered it a lucky charm of sorts considering, what it saved him from - that belief was cemented by the fact it was in the pockets of the leggings he wore under his GI when this happened.
A coincidence, he’s sure, but still, he thinks he needs all the help he can get. He’s probably in the most danger right now, after all.
It had been placed on the bedside table, and it was one of the first things he saw when he woke, and when he groggily reached for it, Terry had stilled him, telling him not to move, placing it the palm of his hand.
Here now, he turns it over in his hand.
Even you can’t save me now, Daniel thinks.
Sitting in a hospital paid for by Terry - his life forfeit it wasn’t for Terry.
His life forfeit all the same.
All the same.
More like delayed, all things considered.
Because now he owes Terry.
He owes Terry a debt he cannot possibly repay.
He wonders how Terry will try to collect; what he stands to gain.
“I must say, I was surprised to learn of your skills.”
“I’m from jersey,” Daniel answers absently. “Of course I know how to pick locks.”
Terry chuckles but then the doctor comes in and like always, Daniel is not made privy to the decisions. Everything in Terry’s hands which, as much as he hates that, they have proved to be quite capable.
He’s alive because of them.
——————————
When a few weeks have passed, he finally gathers the courage to watch the video, and for the first time he sees Terry, how he was saved, how calm Terry was, how efficient, how …. Not what Daniel expected.
He doesn’t know what to feel, not only about watching himself get hurt but about Terry. The feed had cut rather quickly all the same. He doesn’t know why, but he hits replay.
Terry comes in, and freezes, grabbing the tablet from Daniel, shattering it against the wall. A nurse rushes in, and Terry barks something to her as he strides out, and after she cleans the mess, she injects something into his IV bag. He doesn’t bother asking, they never tell him.
Terry finally reappears as the drugs settle through him. Daniel can feel them as they move through his blood, dulling everything further, the pain never truly gone, leaving behind heavy limbs and bad coordination, but a sense of peace even as he feels the bed dip and Terry’s side press flush to his. Daniel goes slack against the older man, his weight fully pressed against him until Terry is the very thing holding him up.
Terry puts Daniel’s hand in his, the only apology he’ll get for the outburst, the thumb rubbing the skin.
“My team will have it removed,” Terry explains, like they do anytime a new one pops up, and although Terry knows he can’t get rid of it entirely, it helps. Having something he can control.
Daniel, after all, makes him feel so out of control.
Daniel, after all, had never made him feel so scared.
All the blood that was already blooming out from him on the mat by the time Terry got to him, and it had only taken moments.
The knife - Kreese’s knife - embedded deep - and the white of Daniel’s skin as more blood appeared, watching life drain out of him right before his eyes.
Something that only hit Terry after. Terry only allowing it to hit him after, needing to, in that moment, focus on saving Daniel.
Not willing to accept anything else.
You can lose something you never really had.
But Daniel will be now. Something he has. Finally. And Terry will be damned if he’ll lose it.
———————————
“I can’t believe you put me in a dog cage,” Daniel grumbles as he eats his steak and buttered lobster.
Well he can, but a part of him can’t - won’t - examine it too closely. The same coping mechanism he’s been using when it comes to Terry for thirty years now. It mostly proves successful,
“Danny,” he starts.
“Thought that would, what? Make me submit? Like before.”
A deep sigh, and really Terry has no right sound that put upon.
He wasn’t the one locked in a dog cage.
“Of course you would see it like that.” Both exasperated yet fond.
“How should I see it?!”
At first you would think humiliation, and Terry’s attempt to install fear in Daniel - the same fear Terry felt but, that wasn’t it - not at all.
Nothing could be further for the truth.
It was protection.
Cages keep things in, but they also keep them out.
They keep things safe.
They keep them from leaving.
He actually hadn’t wanted Daniel to wake up until reaching the desired destination.
“I fear cages,” Terry starts but stops, not sure what to say, off kilter in a way only Daniel manages to do to him.
“Why do you fear cages?”
The story pours out, and Daniel sits, stunned.
He had no idea. At all.
Terry’s loyalty to Kreese makes so much sense now. As does their falling out. Which has hardened into hate since the accident.
Part of Terry blames Kreese.
It was his knife after all.
“He always tries to destroy the good things in my life.”
It not only makes sense but Daniel realizes, with a clarity he wouldn’t before, as he too carries that same burden now. Carries the same mixed feelings about being indebted to someone you do not wish to be indebted to.
An understanding, a part of him connected to Terry.
A part of himself that will never belong to him again.
———————————-
He protested in the beginning, Terry helping him change, but now he doesn’t; there would be no point.
He winces, the scar twisting, so new it’s still more deep purple, the skin too tight from where he was sewed and stitched back together.
Terry frowns, his hand touching it, and Daniel flinches; he can’t help it. Even he doesn’t even like touching it himself
It feels wrong - foreign. It feels like a change he didn’t want but will have no choice but to accept.
Isn’t that Terry whoever he comes into Daniel’s life.
It feels like the situation he finds himself in.
It looks ugly, even if he knows in time it will fade to pink and then further still until it’s faded to the point that it nearly matches his skin
He knows he should be grateful to be alive, to be here, even if here is with Terry.
He knows all of this but still, he will carry a piece of this always.
He carrie enough of Terry around with him - he has for thirty years.
The older man’s fingers are so damm gentle as they trace the new skin forming, solidifying into something permanent.
Everything about Terry has been so damm gentle.
All his touches, all the looks directed at Daniel, even when Terry thinks Daniel isn’t paying attention.
Terry helps him into his shirt.
————————————-
“Why?” Daniel asks when he finally gathers the courage. The thing that took him the longest to do.
“I wasn’t about to let you die, Daniel,” Terry nearly scoffs. “I’m not that much of ….”
“I know,” Daniel interrupts.
And he does. Truly. Terry is a Bond villain, and like all Bond villains, he lives to monologue and come up with elaborate plots, plots he knows, deep down, won’t work.
Just like they know Bond will walk away each time, that they want him to, so does Terry.
Because If you really want someone gone, it’s not hard. Simple is best.
If you truly want to win, that is.
But the winning isn’t the point. The end isn’t the point, because it’s not even a journey.
It’s a game, and it’s the fun in playing the game.
But when you take out the opponent, and you win the game, oh how you stop having fun.
Because the opponent was what you actually wanted all along, this game, was the only way to get that.
Something almost ruined this ages old ritual, something the villain hadn’t planned himself, hadn’t even accounted for.
“Why all this?” Daniel gestures around. It certainly is above and beyond. Putting aside the part Daniel can never hope to possibly repay, can’t even begin to, the money alone Terry has spent is astronomical, and shows no signs of stopping. The money Terry has assured Daniel he does not want, nor does he seem to even care about.
They stare at each other.
“I think you know,” is all Terry says, and it’s not cryptic, not at all.
Because Daniel thinks he does too.
Daniel thinks, he always did.
—————-
The plastic surgeon is flown in.
Daniel is fine with the scar.
It’s Terry that hates it.
It reminds him of too much.
The overwhelming fear in the days after, the unbridled anger at it even happening. Something Terry has been felt before.
How he had failed.
How he had almost lost something, that while never was his, was something he had never wanted more.
How he would have lost everything all the same, had Daniel not pulled through.
No.
No part of his boy is to be reminded of this.
No part of him will be marked by any man but Terry.
If his body is to change now, to open and accept anything inside, to be split open, to bleed, it will be by Terry’s doing.
And it will be by pleasure and not pain.
——————————————
The night he wakes to Terry sitting in the side of the hospital bed, everything dark expect for the light of the moon filtering in through the near floor to ceiling windows, is the night he really sees.
The older man’s back is to him, and although everything is silent, eerily so, he can tell Terry is crying.
Daniel sits up, hand holding onto his side, where he thinks it will always twinge slightly, although it’s more a habit now than a need, and the fact that Terry doesn’t turn to him, doesn’t hone in on the fact he’s awake and moving adds to the wrongness of this whole thing.
He gently and slowly lays a hand on the older man’s shoulder, not wanting to spoke him, he’s clearly out of it, and in an even softer tone, the ones he’d use on his kids when they were younger and upset, he asked, “Terry?”
Daniel expects the older man to get up, leave, but instead a large hand comes up and covers him.
They say nothing, but then Terry’s hand squeezes his, and in a broken voice finally speaks.
“I could have lost you.”
Terry made a mistake.
A mistake he can’t fix. - not now. Because he’s in too deep, because he loves Daniel.
And this, this was never the plan, all those years ago. To fall for the boy …. to fall again for the man the boy became.
Because when you love something, you now have something that can destroy you.
Destroy you without even meaning too.
Daniel would have destroyed him, without even trying.
Destroyed Terry in away that he would not have been able to rebuild himself from.
Even a phoenix eventually loses its will to rise again.
A world with Daniel is not one Terry wishes to be in. He tried, for thirty years, and it was no life at all. It certainly wasn’t living.
He got it back though, that feeling of being alive, but oh, what he traded for it. Because now he has this fear, heavy on his chest.
This fear of losing something you cannot replace.
When he looks down, sometimes he can still see the blood on his hands.
“You didn’t though.”
Daniel kneels, his chest to Terry’s back, his head on his shoulder, thin arms wrapped around the older man.
“You saved me.”
He had.
Terry had battled death with his bare hands for Daniel and won. But one day, one day …..
“We saved each other,” is all Terry says, focusing on that to stave off the panic.
“Let’s focus on that,” Daniel says, nuzzling his cheek into his shoulder. Terry can feel the warmth of his breaths gaunt his neck.
Plastered against his back, Daniel moves with Terry almost, to the feel the rise and fall of Terry’s breathing. Terry can feel the beat of Daniel’s heart, they’re pressed so tight.
Concentrating on that. On the moment. On what he can control in the here and now.
The dread subsides, for now, even if Terry knows it has simply retreated.
The moonlight shines down on them, this moment in time, and they stay like that until the sun chases it away, illuminating the sins instead.
———————-
“Oh god,” a breathy little moan, as Terry’s cock slides home, opening Daniel to him.
Four fingers, four of Terry’s thick fingers, and his mouth, had put the time in to get Daniel here like this, body open enough to accept the older man inside him; to accept his love.
Like a virgin on a mound, about to be offered up as sacrifice, this is how he will repay Terry.
Daniel arches up, legs squeezing tighter to the older man’s sides as his eyes squeeze shut, blunt fingernails drawing down a broad pale back.
They’ll both bleed for this tonight.
They’ll always bleed for each other.
“Fuck, you feel so good,” Terry groans, and Daniel kisses him, only because he can’t handle much more.
He can’t handle Terry here inside him like this - how good it feels - how right it feels - and hear the raw truth in Terry’s voice.
He can’t.
His body is already the temple Terry is about to worship at - to ruin and rebuild - his body the vessel for this offering of his.
He knows his heart and soul will follow suit. If he was being honest with himself, something he seldom is, they already have.
The older man will accept nothing else. Daniel finds he wants nothing else.
Hands roaming, touching warm sweat slick skin, sharing the air moving between them.
The older man so damn gentle as he keeps sliding in.
Daniel finding within himself, to somehow open more and more, until Terry’s cock is all the way in, both men joined as one.
Terry carving a spot for himself that only he will be able to fill.
Hips snapping in, the wet noises of their coupling, the pin pricks of pleasure when the older man’s cock brushes his prostate, the sharp grin, like a shark sensing blood in the water as Terry concentrates on hitting that spot.
Hands pins above his head, Daniel opening his eyes at the older man’s command, Terry staring down.
“I love you. So much, Danny. So damm much,” he groans, rocking in, burying his face into the smaller man’s neck.
The slapping noise of skin on skin as he’s taken, as Terry chases his release, both of their releases, in each other.
Hands grab slim hips, feeling the bone under his palm, fingers digging in, greedy and covetous, but Daniel can feel the love even if he can also feel the bruises it is leaving.
Love with teeth, it suits them.
Always did.
And a love that leaves marks from those teeth, stained red with blood.
A love that is visible - a mixture of pleasure and pain, sometimes in equal measure.
That is them.
“Oh,” he sobs out as he comes in the space between them, not even a hand on his cock needed.
The clenching of his body, already a tight and perfect fit around Terry’s cock, is the older man’s undoing, and his hand grasps the smaller man’s side, covering the now barely visible scar, as empties himself inside the smaller body.
Daniel’s legs fall off his sides, splayed open obscenely as Terry fills and fills and fills him. He moans softly at the sensation of Terry’s come inside him, which doesn’t seem to be stopping, the warming blooming through him as his hips keep gently fucking in, making sure it’s as deep as it can go, making sure Daniel is even more full than he thought possible.
Finally finished, Terry collapses on top of Daniel, careful as he does though. He’s always careful with his boy, even if sometimes it’s his own personal brand of it.
He doesn’t bother to pull out, loathe to leave Daniel’s body until he absolutely has to, even if he is eager to see the mess he’s left his boy in.
There is always later for that.
They have that luxury of later now.
Who would have thought that here, of all places, a second, third, and fourth chance.
Terry’s lost count.
As many as they need to get it right.
Terry will see to that.
Back To You
Pairing: Timmy x Reader
Warnings: Mentions of drug use and smut.
A/N: Grab a snack and a hot beverage and cozy up with this one.
Back To You
She had seen the photos when she landed back in LA, of Timmy in the pool with Eliza. He looked high as anything and absolutely awful. Eliza clearly had him smoking the strong stuff, and she had been trying to contact his agent Mark for two days straight with no success.
She was in her kitchen just wiping down her units when she got an urgent knock on her door. She opened it and gasped as she saw Mark standing there with a terrible looking Timmy before he fell against her wrapping his arms around her tightly and burying his face in her neck.
‘Y/n. I’m sorry.’ He mumbled tearfully.
She held him against her tightly and set her glare on a sheepish looking Mark.
‘I want him to stay with you for a while, maybe take him somewhere-‘
‘Oh trust me I will be taking him away from here and I won’t be telling anyone ESPECIALLY YOU and those parasites you call his PR team!’ She growled at him laying Timmy on her couch and returning her glare on Mark.
He looked down shamefully ‘I didn’t think she would get him so high. He smokes weed with Scott sometimes-‘
‘NOT THIS MUCH!’
After she kicked Mark out of her house she called her older brother to come for them and take them to the lake house she inherited from her grandfather. She packed a suitcase for both of them and woke Timmy up just as Josh drove into her driveway, Timmy was still kind of out of it so she and her brother had to walk him to his pickup and put him in the back seat.
She and her brother drove to the pier silently, although Josh knew his sister was fuming. She had been trying to get in contact with Timothée’s agent for two days to demand he get him away from Eliza. She was a beautiful woman to be sure, but she was also well known to be antisemitic and very anti-Jewish. Or so y/n had heard from many people.
They arrived at the pier and thankfully it was quiet so they got everything onto the boat and then helped Timmy on and under the well furnished deck, y/n closed the door from the outside and sighed.
‘You need to do something about this y/n.’ Josh whispered so as not to be overheard. ‘They can’t keep dumping him onto every greedy celebrity who wants a piece of him. He’s still figuring this world out, this industry. He needs to stand up to them and just tell them no more.’
‘I know Josh!’ Y/n sighed again leaning against the door closing her eyes. ‘I know I need to tell him to set boundaries with his management. But like you said he’s new to this industry. He grew up in New York and around the theatre. And he’s worked his ass off to get where he is now, and he’s always afraid he doesn’t deserve it. He’s so self conscious about his talent. He overthinks every little detail.’
‘And that’s what drew him to you, he’s not like all the other assholes you’ve met in Hollywood. He’s real. And he’s down to earth.’
Josh looks at his sister as she smiles and nods.
‘Maybe this break will give you both the courage you need to finally get together and make it official. Put us all out of our misery.’
She scoffs and shoves him.
‘Get off my boat, I need to get going before it gets dark.’
‘Take care of each other.’
He jumps off as she begins to move out of the dock and sail off towards the mountains that held the large family lake house.
The house was surrounded by a large lake and hidden within even bigger mountains. On the outside it just looked like a family of huge mountains so it was the perfect place to hide a beautiful lake house in the middle of a small island.
Y/n tied the boat to the dock and took the cases into the house first then came out to get Timmy. He was a bit more awake when she went downstairs and she smiled at him as he looked around him.
‘Hey sleepy head, ready to go inside?’
‘Where are we? Last thing I remember was falling into your arms then passing out.’
‘Well after a… talk with Mark we decided it would be better if you and I went on a little break, just until you get back on your feet.’
He nodded and got up slowly and followed her outside, it was getting dark out so there wasn’t much to see but the lights from the house, so they went in and she instantly got him something light to eat then he just wanted to go straight to bed.
The next morning just as the sun was beginning to rise Timmy woke up feeling a lot better after some much needed rest and got up looking for y/n. He found her outside on the front porch and finally saw his surroundings and was in complete shock at the beauty around him. Y/n had never taken anyone here before, this was her sacred place, a sanctuary for her to escape the madness of Hollywood. The fact that she chose to bring him here to recover was everything to him. He walked over and sat down beside her before crawling onto the bench and lay his head on her lap sighing when she began to play with his hair.
‘Did you sleep well?’ He nodded closing his eyes contently.
‘Thank you for bringing me here. It’s beautiful.’
She smiled brushing his curls from his eyes. ‘I thought it was time to share my sanctuary with you. And there’s no better place to heal than this place. No phones, no crowds of people. Just the water and the fresh air.’
‘It’s perfect, thank you. The fact that you trusted me with this means everything to me!’
She smiles and leans forward kissing his temple as they watched the sun rising together.
After they went inside she cooked him breakfast, all of his favourites. Homemade bagels, ham and onion omelette and a bowl of oatmeal. They ate together in peaceful silence then they watched movies. Timmy turned the tv off then and they talked about where they were.
‘I don’t want to do the PR thing anymore, I’m too tired now. I’m so tired y/n. I just want to come home to you at the end of every night and wake up with you every morning. I just want it to be you and me.’
She pulled him against her running her fingers through his hair holding him tightly as he buried his face against her neck.
‘We will talk to Mark when we get home, we will end this once and for all then it can just be us. I promise.’
He nodded against her shoulder breathing her in.
He pushed her back landing on top of her resting his hips between her thighs and nuzzled her neck, shivering as she ran her fingers down his back from his shoulders to his lower back, he arched against her body as her fingers dipped into the curves of his spine and bit down on her shoulder before moving his head slightly to capture her mouth in his and sighed contentedly into the kiss as he began undressing them both. He tore the t-shirt over his head and tossed it aside as she removed her hoodie, and deepened the kiss opening her mouth more for him.
They removed and tossed their bottoms to the floor and he slowly slid into her groaning against her mouth, she gripped a fistful of his long hair as he began moving his hips against hers slowly to start but picked up his pace until he was rutting into her as she kissed and nipped his lips.
He gripped his fingers into the headboard behind her head and began ramming into her harder and faster letting his head falling against her shoulder breaking their heated and sloppy kiss as she clung to him pulling him closer against her panting heavily, he let go of the headboard and wrapped his arms around her waist pulling her against him hearing their skin of their hips meeting in loud slaps, he whimpered and moaned into her neck as she grabbed his shoulders and dragged her fingers down his back again reaching the dip in his lower spine that made him completely lose it and caused his body to convulse on top of her before melting against her. It made him twitch and pant, once he actually ripped the bedsheets apart. Her fingers running down his spine her nails scratching him slightly did otherworldly things to him he couldn’t explain. It made him choke out a gasp and made the air leave his lungs.
He gave one last deep thrust before they both came and he was able to breathe again, he trailed his lips down her neck to her shoulder blade while gently biting her skin as they came down from their high covered in a thin layer of sweat.
He rested his head against her collarbone as she ran one hand through his damp hair and the other down his arm their lower bodies tangled together in the sheets, she moved her hand up his shoulder and stroked his face lightly with her fingers, before he took her hand and pressed them to his lips and parted them as he nibbled the skin on her fingertips.
She smiled and giggled feeling his teeth graze her skin.
‘Stop it. If you’re hungry go downstairs and check the fridge.’ She mumbled in to his hair kissing the top of his head.
He grunted and continued his trail down to her wrist and sucked the pulse point there making her gasp and grip his hair tugging gently just enough to pull him back.
He was obsessed with her skin. Even when they started out as friends. He could live on her body alone. She smelled like heaven and tasted even better. When he needed to be calm she would try giving him a bottle of the perfume she wore, but that didn’t work. It was HER. Her own smell. It was like a drug to him. That’s why even though in those pool pics in the papers with him and Eliza they looked cozy when actually every time Eliza came near Timmy and he was holding like that he was ill. It took everything in him not to kiss the woman’s neck and not throw up.
But now he was back with y/n his beloved y/n. He begged Mark to take him to her, begged on his knees and Mark thought he was high as Hell, but he just needed this here right now.
He kissed a trail between her breasts tasting the dried sweat there and wrapped his arms around her waist to pull her closer and buried his face against her neck sucking on the skin lightly before laying down with her and falling asleep again.
Before it’s too late
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: chad meeks martin x reader
summary: in which you and your best friend share secret feelings for each other. but you being attacked makes him realise how quickly life can come to an end.
requested !
a/n: ahhh my first imagine!! i’m so excited for you all to read it and hope you like it. english isn’t my first language so please stay nice if i make mistakes. my requests are open if you want to request something!
don’t copy my work or translate it on anywhere unless i give you the permission to
Tumblr media
After the long and boring movie, you were walking through New York’s busy streets. Your hands were wrapped around your best friend’s - if you may say it - extremely muscled arm.
The best friend for whom your feelings grew stronger by the day.
You tried to ignore your sweaty hands, thumping heart and butterflies whenever you were around him. But it was hard.
Really hard.
You didn’t want to ruin the beautiful thing you had. Your long-lasting friendship.
“I can’t believe you actually enjoyed that movie.” You laughed, shaking your head in disbelief at what he had just admitted to you.
“What? Are you kidding me. It was pretty good.” Chad replied, a wide smile on his face.
You absolutely loved that smile, his beautiful genuine smile.
“Are you serious? I could make a whole list on what’s wrong about that movie. Front and back!” You exclaimed, receiving a chuckle from him.
“I am convinced we both saw a different movie.” Chad shrugged. A giggle left your lips at the weird taste of your best friend as you looked him in the eyes.
“You really are something, Chad.” You broke eye-contact with him, to watch the road you were crossing. “A good something, I hope.” He grinned, as you could feel him staring at you. you looked to your left and right before you crossed.
“Sometimes.” You shrug teasingly and you hear him laugh from beside you. The corners of your lips tug into smile when hearing the angelic sound.
After a while of walking around, talking and laughing the two of you had arrived in front of your dorm building. You let go of his arm, already missing his body so close to yours.
You were standing across from each other and somehow your feet didn’t want to move. You really didn’t want to go. You didn’t want this night to end.
“Should I walk you upstairs?” He questioned when you didn’t move an inch. You woke up from your trance and shook your head with a smile, “Thank you, but I’ll make it on my own.”
But in reality you wanted nothing more than for him to walk you upstairs. Just so you could be with him for a little longer.
He chuckled at your reply and opened his mouth to say something. But closed it swiftly, almost as if he was afraid to ruin the moment.
“See you tomorrow, princess.”
Princess. The nickname that made your heart flutter, especially when Chad was the one to call you that.
He hesitated at first, but he leaned in closer and planted a gentle kiss on your cheek.
If your heartbeat wasn’t fast then it definitely was racing now. “See you.” You said while your cheeks heated up. He looked at you with his gorgeous smile and watched as you opened the door and stepped inside, completely flustered by what just had happened.
During your short trip to your dorm, all you could think about was him. It wasn’t any different than usual; you were always thinking about him. But something about that innocent kiss told you that things were different than you thought they were.
With a train of thoughts clouding your mind, you entered your dorm, welcomed by a strange smell. The smile on your face was wiped off immediately.
You called for your roommate, but they didn’t answer.
Confused by the smell filling your nose, you tried to find the source of it. Eventually you realised that the closer you got to your roommate’s room, the worse the smell got.
You opened the door and walked inside. Your roommate was laying on their bed, a blanket put over them.
As you drew closer and closer, your heart began to race. You became extremely nauseous as the smell intensified. Your pupils widen in astonishment as you pull away the blanket.
Your roommates dead body was brutally stabbed. Their blood had stained the mattress entirely red.
You put your hand on your mouth to muffle your cries as you looked at them. You couldn’t believe someone would ever do this to them.
You were about to get your phone from your pocket, planning to call Chad. But you got pushed down forcefully and fell on the ground. Your phone flew out
of your hand and landed not too far away from you.
Your watery eyes blinked a few times, before you saw the mask you would recognise from anywhere. The mask you had grown to hate with your entire being.
You tried to grab for anything that could be useful to attack the ghostface with as they were hovering over you. They had gotten ahold of your legs and pulled you closer to them, the blade of their knife sliding against the skin of your leg.
Your arms went everywhere trying to get ahold of something at least.
You successfully managed to grab a baseball bat which belonged to your roommate and hit the ghostface with it on their head.
“Motherfucker!” You yelled hitting it on their head a few times. You quickly got up when their grip loosened and searched for your phone.
You went to grab it, but just when you picked it up you were pushed again and this time the ghostface stabbed you in the leg, twisting it slowly and painfully.
You yelled out in pain and tried everything in your power to push them away, but it was no use.
They slapped the phone out of your hand and let out a deep evil chuckle.
“How does it feel without your muscled bodyguard to save you?” They spoke, their knife threateningly close to your face.
Their knife made its way to your stomach, and all you could do was watch. You were powerless, completely powerless.
They stabbed you without regrets twisting and turning the knife, causing pain to shoot throughout your entire body.
You thought of Chad.
The Chad who was calling you nonstop.
The sound of your ringtone was on the background as you could slowly feel yourself disappear.
-
Chad was pacing back in forth in his dorm, his body tense and his mind full with questions.
Why didn’t you answer? Did something happen to you?
Ethan tried to calm his roommate down the best he could. He told Chad you probably fell asleep and that you forgot to call.
But Chad knew better. Chad knew you wouldn’t go to sleep without letting him know you were safe and making sure he was. He knew you couldn’t go about your evening without checking in on him.
He knew you.
And you wouldn’t just ignore him out of the blue.
“I’ve got to do something.” He whispered to himself. He took out his phone and started calling you over and over again.
But still no answer.
He sat down next to Ethan on the couch, who was slowly drifting to sleep. “Y/n’s probably fine, Chad. Don’t worry.” He mumbled.
But that didn’t stop Chad from worrying. Not even a little bit.
When he called you again, you finally picked up and he let out a sigh of relief. But when the person on the other end of the line started talking, it wasn’t you.
He got up quickly after what he heard and didn’t even bother to grab a coat on this cold evening. He didn’t bother because something had happened to you.
Something bad.
Tumblr media
“Y/n Y/l/n?” Chad questioned the woman at the reception, who was rather moody. She looked him up and down, before pointing towards the hall behind her.
“Room 13.” She replied bluntly, chewing her gum obnoxiously loud.
“Thanks.” He answered politely. His heart was racing out of worry.
He regretted not walking you upstairs. Regretted every decision he made that evening. And most specifically not telling you how he felt.
He had planned it all, the moment he was going to finally open up about his feelings for you. But he was too mesmerised by you, he completely forgot all about admitting to you.
He made his way to your room and his face softened when seeing you in the hospital bed. He walked over to you slowly, his heart breaking into a million pieces by seeing you like this.
Your eyes fluttered open when you heard him enter, your head rested on the pillow.
“Chad.” You brought out with difficulty and you tried to shoot him a smile. “Y/n.” He replied walking over to sit down on the chair next to you instantly.
He grabbed your hand and held it tightly, tears threatening to spill. “I’m so sorry I wasn’t there, Y/n.”
“It’s not your fault.” You assured him. “No, but it is. The night wasn’t supposed to go this way, but I chickened out and- I’m sorry.” Chad didn’t dare to look you in your eyes, feeling guilty.
Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion while you listened to his ramble. You wanted to say something, but your mouth couldn’t form any words.
Chad looked up to look you in the eyes, but this time it felt different. His eyes had something else in them than they usually had.
You still looked him in the eyes while he opened and closed his mouth several times. “I- There’s something I’ve wanted to tell you. And the thing is I thought I had more time. Time to actually think this through and make it a perfect moment- ”
“Y/n, I really thought I’d lost you. It terrified me. And regret washed over me, I should’ve been there for you. I should’ve told you what I actually wanted to tell you.” He said, before taking a deep breath and exhaling.
You squeezed his hand assuring him that he could tell you what had been bothering him so much.
“Y/n, I like you. I have liked you since the moment I have laid eyes on you. Hell, I might even love you. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me and-“ But before he could finish you had pulled him in for a kiss.
His hands made their way to your cheeks and cupped them gently. Your lips moved in sync together as relief washed over the both of you. The contact between your lips was electric and it’s as if the whole world just stopped. Like it was just the two of you.
You pulled away with the biggest smile on your faces. “I like you too, Chad. A lot actually.” You told him, your eyes never leaving his.
“Well, I’m sure I like you more.” He whispered and you playfully rolled your eyes in response.
Tumblr media
part one || part two
word count: 2k
summary: after a very stupid, very impulsive night with rafe, you make a lot of  questionable decisions.
warnings: mentions of sex, suggestive!!! friends-with-benefits but without the friends, mentions of drinking, cursing, little angst, little fluff.
a/n:  FIRST EVER RAFE FIC!!!!! i have such a massive crush on drew starkey and tbh i’m shocked ive waited this long to write my bae rafe. anywayssss if this doesnt flop lol there may or may not be a pt 2 im working on!!! my plan is for this to have four parts, but that could change and i might condense it. this is based on casual by chappell roan!!
Stupid things have good outcomes all the time. JJ lives by that phrase, and after hearing it for years, it’s rubbed off on you. But apparently, that’s not a good excuse in an argument with him, and here you are, palms sweaty and slipping off your bike handles, repeating the words over and over and over like you’re trying to convince yourself they’re true.
Today’s stupid thing? Responding to a text from none other than Rafe Cameron. Okay, that’s been your stupid thing for about a month.
You had a little thing going with Rafe. It started at a party, a drunk hookup, neither participant quite realizing who the other was until they woke up in bed together. You had practically run from Tannyhill like the house was on fire, only after both of you fought a little, fucked a little more, and then promised never to speak of it again. You had thought that this pact also entailed speaking to each other, but about a week later Rafe caught you at work, smiled at you, and hit you with some stupid line you couldn’t quite remember. Something about being the prettiest girl in the room, which wasn’t exactly hard, considering you were indeed the only girl in the room as you worked the counter at the country club’s pro shop. When he slipped back his signed receipt to you, there were 10 digits scrawled across the bottom below his signature.
“Rafe, what is this?” you had to ask, tone a mix between a laugh and a sigh.
He shrugged, and attempted to grab his bag and run out, but you slid the fancy paper bag away from him. “I thought that we said we weren’t gonna talk to each other anymore,” you had stated softly, smiling at the way his cheeks tinted a little pink.
“Nah, I said I didn’t wanna talk about it,” he stressed, “But talking to you is way different.”
You just rolled your eyes and pushed the bag back to him, and he waved you goodbye as he left.
You can count on one hand all the interactions you’ve had with that boy, and that had to be the oddest. Well, maybe not as odd as having sex with him.
A week passed before you texted him. It wasn’t for anything really important, a scolding, if anything. All you did was remind him that again, he can’t just randomly take his shirt off while golfing. It’s a sophisticated establishment, the old ladies complain, blah, blah, blah. His response?
rafe c. - so you’re saying i distract you?
Yes, unfortunately, that is exactly what you’re saying.
The situations just get weirder, when the first time the two of you hang out is when you call him for a ride to the grocery store. No one’s at the Chateau, you’re out of gas, and every form of transportation you could possibly steal for a bit is with their respective owners. You doubt you could’ve balanced on JJ’s bike anyways.
The ride is a little awkward, but by the end you feel.. Comfortable. At peace, almost, in the Kook prince’s passenger seat with his hand ghosting over your knee. In the grocery store, it’s painfully obvious Rafe has never been shopping for food in The Cut. He’s wrinkling his nose at the cheap prepackaged salmon you buy, with generic bread crumbs. But then he helps you comb through the bell peppers to find decent ones, and carries your groceries to his truck. He even lets you play whatever you want over the aux.
You’re waking up with him in your bed the next morning, pushing him out the window so no one sees him.
And that’s how it starts, and how it continues- brief text convos, long hangouts, good sex and fake nonchalance. He stays true to what he said, and you don’t talk about it. To anybody. That was the whole thing- it was understood that it was a secret. No strings attached, forbidden kind of kook and pogue relations that would have your friends livid.
So why are you so nervous on this particular evening? Maybe it’s because Rafe let it slip to Sarah that you’re hooking up. Maybe cause Sarah just had to say something to John B, who then told JJ, who then fought with you in front of the entire group. Everyone knows, and everyone is telling you you’re crazy. It’s not something you can handle, so when you see that Rafe asked you to come over, you’re hopping on your bike and speeding to Tannyhill.
When you get there, you automatically rush into Rafe’s room, a sweaty mess.
He’s laying on his bed, in just boxers as he scrolls on his phone. He jumps when you walk in, setting his phone down quick and standing up like you’re the queen or something.
Your gaze tracks to a bottle of lotion and a box of tissues on his nightstand, and you groan and fake gag as you flop facedown onto the mattress.
There’s an almost soundless little intake of air, but you do hear it, and cut Rafe off before he can even speak.
“I’m not helping you get off!” you declare loudly, and the boy visibly deflates.
“Come on,” he whines, like a little kid not getting his way. “You came in at the perfect time.”
You roll over so he’s in your peripheral vision, and huff. “I’m mad at you.”
He sticks his bottom lip out, a little mocking as he crawls onto the bed beside you. “Awe, what’d I do now?” Rafe lays on his side, head propped up on his hand as he watches you. He likes to watch the way his lamp reflects in your eyes, and how you roll your eyes everytime you catch him staring at you. His fingers creep up your side, but you push him off. Oh. You really are mad, he thinks.
“Why would you tell Sarah?” you ask, voice quiet as you stare him down. The apples of his cheeks turn a little pink, and his eyes widen.
“Uh, what did I tell her?” Rafe lies, because he remembers exactly what he said to Sarah, and the way her jaw dropped after he spoke.
“I just- I really like her, Sarah. Forget about the sex and all that shit. When I’m talking to her, it feels like…” He’s stumbling over his words, not quite able to say what he wants. “She’s fresh air, and I feel like I’ve been stuck in a room without windows, or some shit.”
He was never much of a poet. He also remembers the vise-like grip she had on his arm as she told him she would kill him if he ever hurt you. Rafe promised he could never.
But right now he lies, lies and tries to level his voice. He’s a little shocked that you believe him, or at least don’t press the topic further.
“You told her we were sleeping together!” You hiss, lightly smacking him on the side of his head.
He winces, but internally he’s heaving a sigh of relief. He makes a mental note to never get drunk with his sister ever again as you continue to rant. It’s something about the Pogues wanting to kill him (nothing new), along with a couple of jabs about how he’s just the worst, and that he's annoying, and blah, blah, blah. Rafe isn’t really listening, rather just thinking about his stupid decisions. One of which is looking real pretty as she yells at him. Pretty enough to fall in love with. He absentmindedly tucks your hair behind your ear and you instantly exhale, losing your train of thought altogether in record time. It’s like you have the attention span of a damn goldfish around him.
You just groan again, and murmur, “I can’t stand you,” right before you press your lips to his.
Rafe laughs against you, pulling you on top of him in one smooth motion. “Good thing you’re sitting on top of me then.”
His hands slip under your shirt, and your fingers push through his hair. The calluses on his hands scrape against the soft skin of your stomach and catch on the lace of your bra. Hard hands for daddy’s money, you think. Your fingers tuck against his jawline, cradling his face while his tongue slips against yours, his lips curling up when you make any little noise.
You pull back to catch your breath, and Rafe just stares up at you, kind of punchdrunk.
“Rafe?”
“Mhm?” He reaches up to brush his thumb over your lips.
You’re silent for a second as you think about what you’re about to say. ‘What- What are we doing?”
Rafe’s mouth is parted, and you can’t quite decipher his expression as you watch his eyes flick over your face. He swallows, and says, “Whatever you want.”
You don’t really hear him, and blurt out, “I need this to be casual.”
“Casual?” he repeats.
“Strictly like, sex. No strings attached.”
He sits up, pulling you with him so you’re still on his lap but he’s eye level to you. He’s hard underneath you, but you ignore it as you continue to speak.
“Okay, just sex. Why?”
It’s actually very hard to ignore, literally and figuratively. Rafe is thinking the same thing when you clear your throat and move a little on him, subconsciously.
You shrug. “Listen, I don’t have the time for anything more than that. Plus, we know we couldn’t date, like ever.”
He nods, fake-stretching as a means to buck up against you. “And why couldn’t we date?” When you give him an incredulous look, he continues, “Just to play devil’s advocate. Not that I don’t agree with you, cause I totally do. I just wanna know what you’re like, thinking, if we’re on the same wavelength, or whatever…” He trails off, knowing he’s babbling and should stop.
You laugh a little nervously. “Okay, Cameron.” You take a deep breath, and hope that what you’re about to say makes sense. “I have an itch to scratch, and the only thing I want to do is scratch that itch.” You pause to think. “Itch that scratch?”
“You had it right the first time,” Rafe laughs, but the lilt of it is a little annoyed.
“Okay, whatever. Anyway, you’re good at scratching that itch.”
He grins with pride, bottom lip tucked between his teeth, and just the way he’s looking at you makes you squirm.
“Really good at scratching that itch,” you exhale a little shaky. “But y’know, I don’t really like you as a person.”
His eyebrows shoot up, eyes wide. “The fuck? Thanks a lot.”
“You’re an asshole, Rafe. Plain and simple. I’m not trying to be a bitch, but come on.” You’re thinking of all the times he’s been an absolute dick to your friends.
He’s thinking about all the things he’d lay down for you. “Not to you.”
Your words evidently sting him a bit, and you go red. You hadn’t really meant to hurt him.
You groan. “You know what I mean. My friends hate you. We just couldn’t work.”
Rafe doesn’t really know what to say. This isn’t really the way he thought this would go, but then again, what did he really expect? Everything is jumbled in his head, and all he wants to do is get high and forget about the conversation. But, even though you basically just told him that he's unlikable, you’re still regrettably pretty, and still on top of him. He grips your hips hard, holding you in place as he rolls against you. “So fuck buddies, but we can’t stand each other?” One hand snakes underneath your shirt to unclip your bra, and he does it faster than you can blink.
“Exactly,” you say somewhere in between both of your shirts coming off. “Just stress relief.”
His hands are hot all over you. There’s a hardness in his gaze that’s so different from the softness of his touch.
“We have to have rules,” you manage to state when you’re shimmying out of your shorts, breathing hard while Rafe toys with the little pink bow on your panties.
“Whatever you want, pretty girl.”
It’s a filler phrase, you think. He must desperate for you to shut up and fuck him, so he’s saying anything.
He’s still thinking about how he’d do anything for you. Anything.
You still for a second to catch your breath, and say, “No feelings. No staying overnight. And we can’t go anywhere together that we would be seen.”
“Why not?” Rafe groans as your clothed heat slips over him.
“Rafe! People will talk. They’ll think…”
He presses a finger to your lips, effectively shushing you. “That we’re fucking? Well, hate to break it to ya, baby, but we kinda already are.”
“And no calling me baby.”
Rafe ignores you and slips his hand between your legs, and you forget that you’re supposed to hate him.
Charmed nights
Tumblr media
I spotted her from across the room, standing by the bar and chatting with some friends. She looked effortlessly beautiful, her laughter carrying over the noise and drawing me in like a magnet. I couldn’t help but smile. Tonight was going to be fun.
Making my way through the crowd, I finally reached her side. "Hey," I said, my voice smooth as I tapped her shoulder.
She turned, her eyes lighting up when she saw me. "Olivia! I didn't expect to see you here."
I leaned in a little closer, lowering my voice so only she could hear. "Well, I couldn't miss out on the chance to see you, could I?"
She blushed, and it was the cutest thing. "You’re too sweet."
"Only for you," I teased, winking. "Let me buy you a drink."
I signaled the bartender and ordered us both something fancy. As we waited, I couldn’t help but notice the way her eyes flickered around the room, a mix of excitement and nerves. It made me want to spoil her even more.
"Actually," I said, taking her hand and gently pulling her towards the VIP section, "I have something better in mind."
We made our way to a private area where a few of my friends were lounging around. The moment we sat down, I motioned for the waiter to bring us a bottle of champagne. "I thought you might enjoy this," I said, handing her a glass.
She looked at me, eyes wide with surprise. "Olivia, this is too much."
I shrugged, leaning back and draping an arm around her shoulders. "Nothing's too much for you. Besides," I added, letting my hand trace patterns on her arm, "I love spoiling you."
We chatted and laughed, the champagne flowing freely. I could tell she was relaxing, her initial shyness melting away. Every so often, I'd catch her looking at me with a mixture of admiration and something more.
"Come here," I said after a while, pulling her onto my lap. She hesitated for a moment but then settled in, fitting perfectly against me.
"Is this okay?" she asked softly, her breath warm against my neck.
"More than okay," I whispered, wrapping my arms around her waist. "I like having you close."
The night went on, and I found myself buying her little gifts—trinkets from the venue's shop, a beautiful bracelet that caught her eye. Each time, she protested, but I just shook my head, enjoying the way her face lit up with each new surprise.
"You don’t have to do this," she said at one point, turning to face me as she played with the bracelet on her wrist.
"I know," I replied, my voice gentle. "But I want to. You deserve to be treated like a queen."
She smiled, leaning in to press a soft kiss to my cheek. "Thank you, Olivia."
"For you, anytime," I said, tilting her chin up to meet my gaze. "Now, how about we dance?"
I stood up, pulling her with me. The music was perfect, and we swayed together, lost in our own little world. Holding her close, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of affection. This felt right, like she belonged in my arms.
As the night drew to a close, I walked her back to her place, our fingers intertwined. "I had an amazing time tonight," she said softly, stopping at her doorstep.
"Me too," I replied, leaning in to brush my lips against hers. "Let’s do this again soon."
She nodded, her smile radiant. "I’d love that."
"Good," I said, pulling her in for a final, lingering kiss. "Because I can’t wait to spoil you some more."
---
The next morning, I woke up with a smile on my face, already planning our next outing. I sent her a quick text: "Good morning, beautiful. Free tonight? I have a surprise for you."
She replied almost instantly: "Good morning! That sounds exciting. Can’t wait :)"
I spent the day setting up the perfect date. By evening, I picked her up, her eyes widening in surprise when she saw the luxury car I'd rented for the occasion.
"Wow, Olivia, this is amazing," she said, running her fingers along the sleek exterior.
"Only the best for you," I replied, opening the door for her. "Hop in."
We drove to an upscale restaurant, the kind with candlelit tables and a stunning view of the city skyline. As we walked in, the maître d' greeted us warmly and led us to a private table by the window.
"Olivia, this place is incredible," she whispered, her eyes wide as she took in the elegant decor.
"I'm glad you like it," I said, smiling as I poured us some wine. "I wanted tonight to be special."
We spent the evening talking and laughing, the connection between us growing stronger with each passing moment. After dinner, I took her to a rooftop garden I'd reserved just for us. The view was breathtaking, the city lights twinkling below us.
"This is magical," she said, turning to me with a look of wonder in her eyes.
I took her hand, pulling her close. "Not as magical as you," I said, leaning in to kiss her gently.
She melted into the kiss, her arms wrapping around my neck. When we finally pulled back, I couldn’t help but smile at the way she looked at me, her eyes filled with warmth and affection.
"Thank you for tonight," she said softly. "It’s been perfect."
"Anything for you," I replied, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "You deserve the world."
As the night went on, we sat on a plush bench, her head resting on my shoulder. I loved having her close, feeling the warmth of her body against mine. It was moments like these that made all the craziness of my life worthwhile.
"Do you do this for all your friends?" she teased, looking up at me with a playful glint in her eyes.
I chuckled, shaking my head. "Only for the ones I want to keep around for a long time."
"Well, in that case," she said, snuggling closer, "I think you’re stuck with me."
"Good," I replied, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "Because I wouldn’t have it any other way."
As the evening drew to a close, I drove her home, the car ride filled with comfortable silence. When we reached her place, I walked her to her door, not wanting the night to end.
"Thank you, Olivia," she said, standing on her tiptoes to kiss me. "Tonight was incredible."
"I’m glad you enjoyed it," I said, smiling down at her. "Let’s do it again soon."
"Definitely," she replied, her eyes sparkling. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight, beautiful," I said, watching as she slipped inside.
As I walked back to the car, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of contentment. Spoiling her, seeing her smile, it all made me happier than I could have ever imagined. And I knew that this was just the beginning of something truly special.
