#She's so cute <3#WPP#Portal#Ellen McLain#If you haven't played through the audio commentary I would Absolutely recommend it it is So fun#I clicked out of curiosity - kind of just expecting like a movie's audio commentary y'know? Like a video that highlighted specific scenes#No it's just the whole game again but with trivia pop-ups! I love that!!#It reminded me so much of like trivia track or the pop up fun facts from special editions of movies I would watch as a kid#But you can play through them!! You have to click on them and they spin! I love that!!!#I always love hearing the design and development process - fascinating how the playtesters reacted to this new game!#We take it for granted now but yeah I imagine it would've been very confusing at the time#And I was like ''Well it was such a small team and Ms. McLain was such a large part of it - surely she'll have a few bubbles?''#She does lol - as soon as I got to her first one (it was a slow burn! They buried the lead with her lol I'm already invested!) I had to go#I saved-quit the game out of sheer excitement and giddiness lol I had to sleep on it before I was ready to come back#It is so cool to hear her natural voice ah <3 And the kinds of direction she was given! Other bubbles also talk about her vocal direction :)#Very cool! i know this is A Reach and possibly nitpicky but i think the prettification of the hunger games movies can be seen even in the small matter of katniss's hairstyle. what's described as a simple and practical braid in the books is now a fancy diagonal over-the-shoulder dutch braid in the movies (a braid that is neither functional when the purpose is to get your long hair out of the way, nor very quick/easy to do on yourself), and added to that is the fact that katniss has bangs, once again something that is very impractical when you consider that katniss hunts for a living and those loose hairs would not only be visually obstructive but would also get caught in the bowstring and yanked like hell every time she shoots. in the training sequence of catching fire you can literally see that the bangs are in her eyes. there's a reason olympic archers always have their hair tied up and tucked out of the way. if she were to have a dutch/french braid, the point of that would literally BE to get those shorter hairs out of the way. but since this is a hollywood movie of course they have to make their star have pretty hair that frames her face just so
#uhhhh me#it would be suuuuch a cool commentary if she does normally have a simple braid#but any time the capitol wants her on tv they just give her that impractical hairdo#a bastardized prettified version of her braid#which has both cultural and personal significance to katniss#this is the smallest example of the prettification of the hunger games#the biggest one being ofc the fact katniss was Burnt As Hell by the end of the story#(tho thematically i think it would be more impactful if her face hadn't been spared)#(she is messed up and there is no way to hide it. she is no longer a pretty face to lead the rebellion. she is just a very traumatized girl#i haven't gotten to the third movie yet but i Know she left that burning incident with no marks to speak of#she doesn't even have singed hair. she is perfectly fine#like. boo#i know it's taking me forever to watching this trilogy. i just have other things to do

i want to see a game like the batman telltale series featuring the entire bat-family, not only because i want the bat-family to get represented in its entirety more often outside of comics and i think a more story-driven game would be great for letting their characters and interpersonal dynamics shine, but also because i want to see the whole family comically get wrecked whenever i fail the quick time events, spider-man web of shadows style

I love the hair and wish they kept it#In death island for her instead of copy pasting her ID look#In terms of characterisation I love a more rough around the edges depiction of her reminiscent of Code Veronica#Ive always preferred Claire when shes not forced into a protector of children role and that being her entire identity#Yes shes compassionate and thats one of her main motifs but shes also a person who made a LOT of mistakes young#Including abandoning Leon and Sherry post RE2 and not looking into Simmons before he got custody of Sherry#So seeing how her ability to talk to kids has dulled over the years and her older sense of humor really works#Code Veronica and Rev2 are the only versions of her that they don't try and make her mother teresa and I love her way more that way#I feel like in all versions of RE2 shes ruined by her post re2 decisions in the way they try and paint her in-game#I haven't watched Degen in a WHILE and in ID she's just there for 5 minutes to be pissed at Leon for making a really hard decision he had t#Idk I feel like if they introduced her in code veronica and her only 2 outings were CVX and REV2 she wouldn't take any damage from it#Theme: Characterized

I have a confession to make, I haven't seen a single scream movie in my life in fact the only horror movie franchises I have seen are Saw and Chucky... I vibe with both for different reasons.
This spooky season I am slowly rectifying this, but I feel so bad because I feel like such a poser. I talk about loving horror, but I don't know the classics hell even my horror games are abysmal. I only got into horror things as an adult after leaving the cult I grew up in, but there is so much out there it's borderline overwhelming. (Well I have been watching Markiplier since 2014, but that barely counts) If anyone has any good recommendations I'd love to hear it.

somehow this week is 3 hours long and these little pockets of time i have to scroll and be silly are being consumed with chess. i'm afraid i am developing a new (old) hobby.

i do think, aside from mercury bias, if bg had been in all season she would have been all wnba, first or at least second. i think people undervalue her because of the rebounding but she is 1000% the worst officiated player in the league, on both sides of the court. so the fact that she's been able to have the performance that she had is incredible, and that she didn't get the acknowledgment really just underscores how much people take what she does for granted.
#i saw something interesting that kim milky basically has her players specialize and so they come out of college less well rounded#exhibit a angel's shooting vs rebounding#and i didn't watch bg in college so maybe i'm totally wrong on this but maybe rebounding just wasn't he job#and then i saw on reddit or something that maybe because she is so poorly officiated she'd get called for too many fouls on rebounding#for it to be worth it#and while i understand the value of rebounding really i do the mercy's problem wasn't that they weren't trying#well sometimes it was but it was that their whole system wasn't designed for it#if you have 4 players on the perimeter to space and shoot 3#you're going to hope they go in and run the floor instead#teams that rebound well dedicate bodies and time to rebounding#and i believe that it was a conscious choice the merc made to not do that#and if you look at old merc games they struggled with rebounding then too#i actually will have more to say about this in the future but the mercury's style of play has lived and died with dt's style for 20 years#the mercury have the most 100 point games of any franchise#and they are responsible for most of the 200 point total scores across the league#ie their fast break and bad defense lol#and while it's not entirely true - she is not responsible for every result they've ever had - i don't think you get westhead's style of pla#to work without her talent and the penny cappie dt trio in 2006#or at least it isn't successful and maybe doesn't change the pace of play in the league the way it did#it's also interesting that if the lottery draw goes differently in 2006 and merc have the first pick do they get seimone or do they stick#cappie? i think they stick with cappie bc they needed a true pg and from what i've seen seimone is a 2/3#and i don't think dt becomes the player the league knows without having a true pg [vs her playing point]#the thing is dt can play point better than most people but i think she plays better when she has someone else there to help#and her talking about oh i should've won mvp in 2006 [when i dropped 40] [lisa leslie won that year]#and in 2014 [best team ever] [maya moore won that year]#you look at the stats and there is for sure an argument to be made there#but it all comes back to post players#and i know wikipedia says maya is a power forward but she seems like more of a 3 sometimes? i haven't watched her enough#but i don't think dt can win mvp in 2009 without that team specifically#which means [and this is my theory of life] that everything happens the way it has to happen for you to end up where you are today

so for context i sometimes get things people say stuck in my head, like when a song gets stuck but with random things people say (lmk if you can relate everyone i've mentioned this to hits me with "??? huh?")
roier has a voice where i tend to get things he says stuck in my head yknow. which is neat yknow i like his voice i don't mind him going WHAT THE FUCK?? with his whole chest in the back of my mind yknow like prior to qsmp i had seen a random clip of him chasing down rubius on some different server and saying his name a bunch and that got stuck in my head for a month or so and it's fun yknow it's neat
but right now there is a tiny roier in the back of my head saying "ven mijo ven!! ven bobby!!"
so yea i'm crying again lol
