#I haven't been active in the fandom in a while

I do think it's wild that I used to be pretty neutral and even slightly supportive of byler, while not thinking it could (or should!) be endgame. But now I'm like. Actively bitter towards it just based on how I've seen fans act? I'm fed up with it. With theories (however plausible or outlandish) being treated as fact. Of the "canon or youre not a REAL fan" attitudes that are increasingly extreme.

Last July I was sent a dozen hate anons a bit over a year ago for saying I didn't think it made sense for byler to be canon within the final season, because what we have textually seen on screen has not prepared for the 180 Mike's relationships would have to take, but I've seen others get weird hate asks too. I also see what a large portion of shippers are calling "proof" and it's either something that is up for interpretation (which is fun and fine! But not definitive!) or they just made up. I've seen multiple people say milevens are toxic and homophobic etc but here on Tumblr I haven't seen that at all. (I'm sure there have been! But on Tumblr I think there's maybe... Three or so active milevens lol [I am not one] and they stay in their lane unless it's to beg bylers to stop cross tagging)

I've seen bylers make posts about mileven that are incredibly rude and act like they're superior for it! There's ableism and biphobia and homophobia and misogyny and all sorts of shit that always happens in fandom, but the level I've seen from bylers is bonkers (and yes! I am talking about bylers being homophobic! Acting like a character being gay only matters if he's in a relationship is homophobic!) I've only seen bylers consistently cross tag. I've seen them disregard all three characters involved with the love triangle and their motivations just to make byler happen, and it often comes down to them making all three two dimensional tropes and souless boring caricatures. The amount of denial around El's feelings is pretty offensive, and also boring!

I just think. Perhaps. If you don't like when people are consistently annoyed at the group of shippers, perhaps re-evaluate to see if you are the "positive community" you claim to be, or are actively attacking people who do not adhere to the increasingly rigid criteria you have decided are required to be considered a shipper, and immediately declaring someone who doesn't an "enemy".

I know everyone else has pretty much said their farewells to the fandom, and I haven't been active at all really in the last four months, but I wanted to say thanks to all of you as well.

Finding Ballum is something that got me through the first couple years of the pandemic, something that got me writing after a decade-long dry spell, and the lovely people in the fandom helped me push past some of my social anxieties and actually make some friends here which I didn't think was possible for me. It all means a great deal to me because the last 4 years have been rough in so many ways and I don't think I would've managed it as well if I didn't have this show and all of you folks to enjoy it with.

So I want to express my love and many thanks to everyone who I've befriended through Eastenders, all the writers and artists who have made watching the show more fun with their talent and skill, and anyone who has read my writing over the last few years. It's been a wild ride but I'm so glad to have been here for it with all of you 💜

Oh my God, this is so sweet!!!! I remember being SUPER active in the HQ community, and reading and commenting on fics was like, a daily activity... I also remember how incredible it felt to lift up other writers and be lifted up in return!! I always loved my little corner of tumblr and ao3 where I could so easily talk to people and make friends over shared excitement (very often just by checking out works by people who had left comments on mine!) - and I'm so happy to hear that I'm not the only one who remembers that fondly :D I'm SO glad my words were able to inspire you - my main fuel for inspiration was always kind words from others :)

wangxian princess bride au (ch. 1)

so back in 2020 i wrote the first two chapters of an mdzs princess bride au. i came across it randomly and thought it actually wasn't too bad, so i figured i might as well post it

i likely won't continue it since i'm not in the habit of writing (i've actually never written or posted a fic besides this one), but i thought it might bring some people some entertainment. also want to note that this is unedited/beta read, just posting everything as it was written back in 2020 :3

Chapter 1: Sick Day

“A-Ling, your uncle’s here,” said Jin Zixuan, entering the room.

Jin Ling looked up from his bed, where he was playing mobile games, “Didn’t you tell him I’m sick?” he scowled.

“He’s here because you’re sick. I need someone to watch you while I’m at work.”

“I’m 16, I don’t need a babysitter.” Jin Ling’s scowl was starting to become permanent.

“Sure,” Jin Zixuan conceded, “But you don’t even have the energy to get out of bed for a glass of water, you’ll need someone to do these things for you.”

“Don’t act like I’m some kind of servant, peacock,” started Jiang Cheng as he entered with an expression that put his nephew’s to shame, “I agreed to keep him company for the day because you never let me see my nephew often enough, that’s all.”

“You visit every week…” Jin Ling muttered as Fairy hopped onto the bed, wagging her tail.

Jin Zixuan rolled his eyes, “I’m off to work, I’ll pick up some soup for dinner on my way back.”

Jiang Cheng tried not to think about how Jin Ling wouldn’t have to wait for Jin Zixuan to pick up soup on his way back from work if A-Li were still here, cleared his throat, and pulled Jin Ling’s desk chair to the side of the bed.

Jin Ling, who had already gone back to his game, gave Jiang Cheng a side glace, before once again staring intently at the screen, “Ah, uncle, you don’t have to stay in here you know... I’m sure the living room is more comfortable anyway. I can just call you if I really need something…”

Jiang Cheng decided to ignore the fact that the expensive gaming chair he was sitting in was infinitely more comfortable than the sleek sofas in the living room, which were undoubtedly built more for style than comfort. “Don’t be ridiculous, didn’t I already say I didn’t come here to be your servant? Besides, I brought you something.”

Jin Ling perked up. It wasn’t hard to see he was imagining a new headset, or a new set of athletic clothes for sword practice, or sweets, or even a new friend for Fairy, which were the type of things his uncle usually bought him. He certainly wasn’t expecting…

“A book?” Jin Ling’s face twisted into something dubious.

Jiang Cheng’s scowl deepened. “Don’t be ungrateful.” His scowl softened to a frown, “Your mother used to read this to me when I was sick. Since she’s not here to read it to you-” His fingers clenched around the spine.

Perhaps it’s not surprising that Jin Ling struggles to find words for a moment. “...Well, if mom liked it, it can’t be too bad. What’s it about? Does it have sword fights?” It looked from the cover to be a xianxia novel, so he was hopeful.

Jiang Cheng scoffed, “Of course. Sword fights, demonic cultivation, torture, revenge, fierce corpses, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles…”

Even though Jin Ling made another face at the mention of true love and miracles, he finally set his phone to the side. “Alright, but don’t blame me if I fall asleep, I’m sick remember?”

“If you fall asleep I’ll break your legs,” threatened Jiang Cheng as he turned to the first page. “‘The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation’. Chapter 1. Wei Wuxian grew up farming lotus roots in Yunmeng…”
