guess who’s finally gonna really try so super hard to learn how to drive :)
#I have my permit for the 2nd time & I am DETERMINED this time man#First I had a learners permit in highschool at 17#I was in a god awful place mentally. A combination of suicidal ideation & intrusive thoughts about crashing kinda made me give up learning#Then I got a motorcycle permit to try and drive a motor scooter#But the safety course was like “hey btw most of the danger comes from cars not paying enough attention to you & you can’t do shit about it!#So I got massive anxiety about it and could only drive on small back roads. + motorcycles feel So Much Faster which made the anxiety worse#I ended up letting that permit expire too#Now I’m finally at a point where I’m not super busy and have less car anxiety and WAAAAYYY less depression#My suicidal ideation is gone & my intrusive thoughts don’t affect me nearly as much#And recently I got more free time for a little while so I studied for the class C permit test again & a couple days ago I passed :)#And today I drove a car for the first time in like 5 years & it was ok!#I have like 25 days till classes start & not really much of anything on the schedule until then#So I’m gonna try my best to practice a decent amount this month & hopefully get a behind the wheels lesson in from a good instructor#And hopefully should be comfy enough to drive to & from school with my dad in the car#I have classes 4 days a week so that’ll be guaranteed practice on some bigger roads#There’s also a few ways to get there so I can start w the route that’s 70% small road and work my way up to practice big roads & freeways#Trying my very hardest to beat the Can’t Drive Gay accusations

Latin was originally spoken by an eponymous group of ancient Italians. One of these Latin cities, the Romans, spread the language by conquering all of Italy, later the Mediterranean, then much of Europe and the Middle East. Although rarely spoken now, it is the mother of all Romance languages and contributes to about a third of English vocabulary. Its influence has since spread across the world through European imperialism; there are few places left that are completely unaffected by the Romans’ language and culture.
This particular post serves as both a beginner’s guide and a taster to what Latin is, with some common vocabulary along the way. Especially since many people are currently stuck at home due to Covid-19, and may like to stay occupied by learning a new language. Hope you enjoy!
N.B. Anything beginning with an asterisk (*) means that you may hear differently elsewhere, for example on Duolingo.
General
Latin is fundamentally a very difficult language, even for academics, and even if your native tongue is Romance. But I am not saying not to try, I am saying it is normal to struggle!
All ‘U’s were then written as ‘V’s, and all ‘J’s as ‘I’s. Modern Latin-learning tends to replace some ‘V’s with ‘U’s in order to facilitate reading. We have lost the exact pronunciations of classical Latin, not to mention differences between dialects, but the following explanations are some of the strongest estimates.
*‘V’ should be normally pronounced as /ʍ/, when between consonants as /u/.
*A standalone ‘I’ before another vowel becomes /j/ or /dʒ/.
Iuppiter servum in exilium pepulit.
[ Ivppiter servvm in exilivm pepvlit. ]
[ Yoo-pi-ter ser-woom in e-xi-li-oom pe-poo-lit. ]
Jupiter drove the slave into exile.
Iuppiter, Iovis (3, m.) - Jupiter, king of the gods servus, servi (2, m.) - slave in + acc. - into, to exilium, exilii (2, n.) - exile pello, pellere, pepuli, pulsum (3) - drive out, push, repel
Latin generally follows a SOV (subject, object, verb) sentence structure:
rex regnum amat.
The king loves his kingdom.
rex, regis (3, m.) - king regnum, regni (2, n.) - kingdom; power amo, amare, amavi, amatum (1) - love, like
There are no definite or indefinite articles (a/the) - normally, you must add them to your translation yourself depending on the context. There are relative pronouns (e.g. qui/quae/quod - who, which), demonstrative pronouns (e.g. hic/haec/hoc - this; he/she/it) and many other pronouns/determiners, but they are not required for every sentence.
*Unlike English, you do not capitalise the sentence’s first letter UNLESS that first letter is part of a name.
Most meanings are conveyed via changes in word endings (i.e. it relies on conjugating and declining) rather than word order. This makes Latin an inflected language.
Nouns
While English uses word order to show how nouns and adjectives relate to a situation, Latin uses endings and cases from different declensions to do the same. Latin uses 7 cases, but 2 of them (vocative and locative) are rarer.
nominative (nom.) - subject
vocative (voc.) - addressee: often follows ‘o’
accusative (acc.) - object
genitive (gen.) - possessor (of/‘s)
dative (dat.) - recipient (to/for)
ablative (abl.) - movement away (from) / instrumental (by/with) / location (at/in)
locative (loc.) - location (at/in)
Here’s an example with all 7 in action:
pater, o Attice, donum Iovis matri cum comite Romae dedit.
Atticus, my father gave Jupiter’s gift to my mother with his comrade in Rome.
pater, patris (3, m.) - father donum, doni (2, n.) - gift, present mater, matris (3, f.) - mother cum + abl. (only used for people) - with comes, comitis (3, m/f.) - companion, comrade, partner Roma, Romae (1, f.) - Rome do, dare, dedi, datum (1) - give; surrender, hand over
Noun endings change in case, gender and number. There are three genders: masculine (m.), feminine (f.), and neuter (n.). The two grammatical numbers are singular (sg.) and plural (pl.). A noun will abide by the endings of one of five possible declensions.
In dictionaries, like above, you will see a noun given as ‘nominative, genitive (declension, gender) - English meaning’. The genitive is always featured because it is the only case whose ending is specific to its own declension (other endings may be seen across declensions but have different cases each time). Therefore, if you know what a noun’s genitive is, you know what declension it is, and vice versa.
Adjectives
An adjective agrees with its related noun in case, gender and number. However, they do not always have the same endings; all adjectives decline as either 2nd m. / 1st / 2nd n. (also seen as 2-1-2) or 3rd.
Here, every adjective agrees with the adjacent noun in case, gender and number, but none has the same ending:
omnis puella, mulier pulchra, homo sapiens, puer stultus
every girl, the beautiful woman, the wise man, a foolish boy
omnis, omne (3) - every, all; whole puella, puellae (1, f.) - girl mulier, mulieris (3, f.) - woman pulcher, pulchra, pulchrum (2-1-2) - beautiful, handsome homo, hominis (3, m.) - man; human being sapiens, sapientis (3) - wise, knowing puer, pueri (2, m.) - boy stultus, stulta, stultum (2-1-2) - stupid, foolish
N.B. With exceptions, most Latin adjectives follow the noun.
However, that is not to say that nouns and adjectives can never have the same endings. They often do: Roman writers used this frequently as a literary device known as homoioteleuton.
equus magnus, feminae parvae, homines sapientes, dona laeta
a big horse, little women, wise men, the happy gifts
equus, equi (2, m.) - horse magnus, magna, magnum (2-1-2) - big, great, large femina, feminae (1, f.) - woman parvus, parva, parvum (2-1-2) - little, small laetus, laeta, laetum (2-1-2) - happy, cheerful, blessed
Sometimes you see an adjective without a noun. When this happens, translate the adjective as an adjective AND a noun:
fortis horrenda diu passus est.
The brave man suffered horrible things for a long time.
fortis, forte (3) - brave, strong, bold horrendus, horrenda, horrendum (2-1-2) - horrible, terrible, horrendous diu (adv.) - for a long time patior, pati, passus sum (3, deponent) - suffer, endure; allow, permit
N.B. horrenda is in the accusative neuter plural, hence ‘things’.
Verbs
The doers of verbs are shown by verb endings, unlike English which requires personal pronouns. Nominative personal pronouns can support a verb in Latin, but they are not required. They are best used to show contrast, unity or general emphasis - as if someone were pointing a finger at you - and this is why they are not seen often. Both sentences below are grammatically correct, but the second flows better:
ego dormire amo, tu dormire amas, nos amici apti sumus.
dormire amo, dormire amas, amici apti sumus.
I like to sleep, you like to sleep, we are suitable friends.
dormio, dormire, dormivi, dormitum (4) - sleep ego, me, mei (pers. pron.) - I, me, my tu, te, tui (pers. pron.) - you, you, your nos, nos, nostri (pers. pron.) - we, we, our amicus, amici; amica, amicae (2/1, m./f.) - friend aptus, apta, aptum (2-1-2) - suitable, apt, appropriate sum, esse, fui, futurum (irreg.) - be; be alive, exist, live
Latin uses the following tenses: present, future, future perfect, perfect, imperfect and pluperfect - and each comes with its own set of endings. There are also participles, supines, infinitives, imperatives, gerunds, gerundives, actives, passives, deponents and other structures to show contemporary, previous, subordinate or hypothetical events - these also come with their own stems and endings, but they often work like adjectives and so are not entirely unrecognisable.
Dictionaries present verbs as ‘present active, present active infinitive, perfect active, supine (conjugation)’. There are 4 conjugations, which are different sets of verb endings.
All Latin verbs come as either 1. active (I kill), 2. passive (I am killed) or 3. deponent (passive in form, active in meaning). Each comes with its own set of endings.
1. hic homo me interficit!
This man is killing me!
2. hic homo interficitur!
This man is being killed!
3. hic homo me interficere conatur!
This man is trying to kill me!
hic, haec, hoc (pron.) - this; he/she/it interficio, interficere, interfeci, interfectum (3) - kill, destroy conor, conari, conatus sum (1, deponent) - try, attempt
N.B. While most verbs can be active or passive interchangeably, deponents never switch. They are never seen with active endings or passive meanings.
The indicative (1) and subjunctive (2) moods distinguish expectations from reality. The indicative presents facts, while the subjunctive anything hypothetical from questions to wishes to fears. Each mood comes with its own set of endings.
1. vir dives me cupit.
The rich man wants me.
2. vir dives me cupiat.
May the rich man want me.
vir, viri (2, m.) - man; husband dives, divitis (gen.) (3) - rich, wealthy; wealthy man cupio, cupere, cupivi, cupitum (3) - desire, want, long for
Learning ancient versus modern languages
I’ve seen language-learners new to Latin comment on the difference in tone and content, sometimes even being discouraged by it.
Learning an ancient language which is no longer spoken today, i.e. ‘dead’, is very different from learning a modern foreign language. Some basic techniques don’t change, such as how to memorise vocab. However, the overall approaches are different because the overall goals are different - unless the goal is simple pure enjoyment, which is in fairness the best reason to learn!
Modern language studies are to encourage international communication and many other reasons.
Ancient language studies are almost entirely to study the ancient world, how it led to the modern world, and this is mostly done through analysing ancient sources in their original languages.
When studying Latin, you therefore are more likely to learn heavy vocabulary such as ‘die’ or ‘sacrifice’ before you learn ‘take a bath’ - some of the examples I use in this post aren’t cheerful. Classicists learn how to translate heavier content first because it is more commonly mentioned in the ancient sources which the entire subject relies upon - death comes up much more frequently in Caesar’s Gallic Wars than greetings.

On 2nd of February 1645 a Royalist army led by James Graham, 5th Earl and 1st Marquis of Montrose, routed the Earl of Argyll's Covenanting forces in the Battle of Inverlochy.
Montrose and his army had wintered-down at Inveraray, which had been taken from the Campbells, scouts determined that the Covenant armies were closing in on them, so they pulled out, heading to Loch Ness-side, near Kilcumin. While facing new threats, namely the Earl of Seaforth and his 5,000 men based at Inverness, word of an army of around 3,000 Campbells and lowland troops at Inverlochy, close to where Fort William is today, Graham already knew that the Earl of Seaforth and his 5,000 men based at Inverness were a threat.
With Campbell troops coming at them from the south, and Seaforths from the north, Montrose and his men took to the hills; the Covenanters found only an empty glen when they met up with one another. Reasoning that they should attack the strongest enemy first, Montrose was led by Cameron scouts, by little known paths (the actual path taken is still debated) to Inverlochy. This route is said to have been one of the most arduous and daring feats of Scottish military history.
What is known is that from the Roy Bridge area they forded the river Spean near Corriechoille and traversed a secret way via the old townships of Kilchonate and Leanachan after two days and nights they were at the foot of Ben Nevis' "shoulder" of Meall an t-Suidhe just before dark. They observed the tower of the ancient castle of Inverlochy and many Campbells moving around their camp. The Campbells saw them, and assumed that they were only raiders, or foraging parties. Montrose and his army rested for the night in freezing temperatures and at the break of dawn the Campbells, including their chief Argyll, were awakened by the pipes of Montrose's assembled clans charging down upon them.
Even though Grahams army were outnumbered by approximately 1,000 troops and were facing some cannon fire, the army of Montrose broke the Lowland soldiers on the wings, forcing them to flee the field. The Campbells in the center of the line held firm, but soon were cut into groups and eventually fled. To state that little quarter was given is an understatement. One account, by poet Iain Lom, recorded the action from his first-hand vantage point at the field of battle.
A nice wee add on to this story is from Iain Lom MacDonald. Although it is widely believed that Robert Burns was Scotland’s first Poet Laureate, Charles II named Iain Lom MacDonald as Scotland’s Poet Laureate during his 17th century reign. However as the Stuart line was unseated in 1689, and the subsequent Jacobite Risings failed to permanently restore the Stuarts, their status became a moot point. His stature has further been diminished by the fact that he composed exclusively in Gaelic, which even at that time was a language in decline.
Famously stating, when offered a sword to battle, “You battle; I’ll tell”, Iain Lom MacDonald sought out a high vantage point above the battleground below to record a blow-by-blow account.
As is only right I shall post the Gaelic version first, below this is the translation......you can also listen to Gaelic supergroup Mànran sing it as it should be.......

A History lesson
is the topic of Paul’s writing for Today’s reading of the Scriptures from the Letter of First Corinthians about how God chose the Jews to carry His truth and to reveal it to the world, although they were not always faithful to God in the process. but truth prevailed anyway as we see in the True illumination of the Son and the revelation of grace beginning in Jerusalem:
[Chapter 10]
I wouldn’t want you to be ignorant of our history, brothers and sisters. Our ancestors were once safeguarded under a miraculous cloud in the wilderness and brought safely through the sea. Enveloped in water by cloud and by sea, they were, you might say, ritually cleansed into Moses through baptism. Together they were sustained supernaturally: they all ate the same spiritual food, manna; and they all drank the same spiritual water, flowing from a spiritual rock that was always with them, for the rock was the Anointed One, our Liberating King. Despite all of this, they were punished in the wilderness because God was unhappy with most of them.
Look at what happened to them as an example; it’s right there in the Scriptures so that we won’t make the same mistakes and hunger after evil as they did. So here’s my advice: don’t degrade yourselves by worshiping anything less than the living God as some of them did. Remember it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink and then rose up in dance and play.” We must be careful not to engage in sexual sins as some of them did. In one day, 23,000 died because of sin. None of us must test the limits of the Lord’s patience. Some of the Israelites did, and serpents bit them and killed them. You need to stop your groaning and whining. Remember the story. Some of them complained, and the messenger of death came for them and destroyed them. All these things happened for a reason: to sound a warning. They were written down and passed down to us to teach us. They were meant especially for us because the beginning of the end is happening in our time. So let even the most confident believers remember their examples and be very careful not to fall as some of them did.
Any temptation you face will be nothing new. But God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can handle. But He always provides a way of escape so that you will be able to endure and keep moving forward. So then, my beloved friends, run from idolatry in any form. As wise as I know you are, understand clearly what I am saying and determine the right course of action. When we give thanks and share the cup of blessing, are we not sharing in the blood of the Anointed One? When we give thanks and break bread, are we not sharing in His body? Because there is one bread, we, though many, are also one body since we all share one bread. Look no further than Israel and the temple practices, and you’ll see what I mean. Isn’t it true that those who eat sacrificial foods are communing at the altar, sharing its benefits? So what does all this mean? I’m not suggesting that idol food itself has any special qualities or that an idol itself possesses any special powers, but I am saying that the outsiders’ sacrifices are actually offered to demons, not to God. So if you feast upon this food, you are feasting with demons—I don’t want you involved with demons! You can’t hold the holy cup of the Lord in one hand and the cup of demons in the other. You can’t share in the Lord’s table while picking off the altar of demons. Are we trying to provoke the Lord Jesus? Do we think it’s a good idea to stir up His jealousy? Do we have ridiculous delusions about matching or even surpassing His power?
There’s a slogan often quoted on matters like this: “All things are permitted.” Yes, but not all things are beneficial. “All things are permitted,” they say. Yes, but not all things build up and strengthen others in the body. We should stop looking out for our own interests and instead focus on the people living and breathing around us. Feel free to eat any meat sold in the market without your conscience raising questions about scruples because “the earth and all that’s upon it belong to the Lord.”
So if some unbelievers invite you to dinner and you want to go, feel free to eat whatever they offer you without raising questions about conscience. But if someone says, “This is meat from the temple altar, a sacrifice to god so-and-so,” then do not eat it. Not so much because of your own conscience [because the earth and everything on it belongs to the Lord], but out of consideration for the conscience of the other fellow who told you about it. So you ask, “Why should I give up my freedom to accommodate the scruples of another?” or, “If I am eating with gratitude to God, why am I insulted for eating food that I have properly given thanks for?” These are good questions.
Whatever you do—whether you eat or drink or not—do it all to the glory of God! Do not offend Jews or Greeks or any part of the church of God for that matter. Consider my example: I strive to please all people in all my actions and words—but don’t think I am in this for myself—their rescued souls are the only profit.
The Letter of 1st Corinthians, Chapter 10 (The Voice)
Today’s paired chapter of the Testaments is chapter 16 of 2nd Samuel that documents the continued strife facing David:
Shortly after David passed the crest of the hill, Mephibosheth’s steward Ziba met him with a string of pack animals, saddled and loaded with a hundred loaves of bread, a hundred raisin cakes, a hundred baskets of fresh fruit, and a skin of wine.
The king said to Ziba, “What’s all this?”
“The donkeys,” said Ziba, “are for the king’s household to ride, the bread and fruit are for the servants to eat, and the wine is for drinking, especially for those overcome by fatigue in the wilderness.”
The king said, “And where is your master’s grandson?”
“He stayed in Jerusalem,” said Ziba. “He said, ‘This is the day Israel is going to restore my grandfather’s kingdom to me.’”
“Everything that belonged to Mephibosheth,” said the king, “is now yours.”
Ziba said, “How can I ever thank you? I’ll be forever in your debt, my master and king; may you always look on me with such kindness!”
When the king got to Bahurim, a man appeared who had connections with Saul’s family. His name was Shimei son of Gera. As he followed along he shouted insults and threw rocks right and left at David and his company, servants and soldiers alike. To the accompaniment of curses he shouted, “Get lost, get lost, you butcher, you hellhound! God has paid you back for all your dirty work in the family of Saul and for stealing his kingdom. God has given the kingdom to your son Absalom. Look at you now—ruined! And good riddance, you pathetic old man!”
Abishai son of Zeruiah said, “This mangy dog can’t insult my master the king this way—let me go over and cut off his head!”
But the king said, “Why are you sons of Zeruiah always interfering and getting in the way? If he’s cursing, it’s because God told him, ‘Curse David.’ So who dares raise questions?”
“Besides,” continued David to Abishai and the rest of his servants, “my own son, my flesh and bone, is right now trying to kill me; compared to that this Benjaminite is small potatoes. Don’t bother with him; let him curse; he’s preaching God’s word to me. And who knows, maybe God will see the trouble I’m in today and exchange the curses for something good.”
David and his men went on down the road, while Shimei followed along on the ridge of the hill alongside, cursing, throwing stones down on them, and kicking up dirt.
By the time they reached the Jordan River, David and all the men of the company were exhausted. There they rested and were revived.
By this time Absalom and all his men were in Jerusalem.
And Ahithophel was with them.
Soon after, Hushai the Arkite, David’s friend, came and greeted Absalom, “Long live the king! Long live the king!”
Absalom said to Hushai, “Is this the way you show devotion to your good friend? Why didn’t you go with your friend David?”
“Because,” said Hushai, “I want to be with the person that God and this people and all Israel have chosen. And I want to stay with him. Besides, who is there to serve other than the son? Just as I served your father, I’m now ready to serve you.”
Then Absalom spoke to Ahithophel, “Are you ready to give counsel? What do we do next?”
Ahithophel told Absalom, “Go and sleep with your father’s concubines, the ones he left to tend to the palace. Everyone will hear that you have openly disgraced your father, and the morale of everyone on your side will be strengthened.” So Absalom pitched a tent up on the roof in public view, and went in and slept with his father’s concubines.
The counsel that Ahithophel gave in those days was treated as if God himself had spoken. That was the reputation of Ahithophel’s counsel to David; it was the same with Absalom.
The Book of 2nd Samuel, Chapter 16 (The Message)

Today’s devotional message sent by email from The Passion Translation:
I Hear His Whisper . . .
Let love rule.
The revelation of truth can only come through my love. As you live in my love, I will show myself through your life and through your words. Many are those around you who need me; love them, and they will see me. As my Word says, I have not given you a spirit of fear, but the spirit of love. My holy presence will spill from your heart as you overflow with my love. Many will attempt to distract you from this treasure, but your eyes are fixed on me, and I will hold you fast in my love.
Let all other things become supplemental to love. Love must rule your life, words, actions, and mindset. Loving must become the primary motive of your life. The deepest desire of your heart must be to know and love me first, then to pour that love out to others. Let love compel you. Let compassion lift you. Let wisdom lead you, and the enemy will never be able to trick you into guilty service. See what I’m doing and remain in sync with my Spirit, and you will never be sucked dry or step outside the healthy boundaries of love.
Whispers written by Brian Simmons and Gretchen Rodriguez
1 John 4:20
The Passion Translation
Anyone can say, “I love God,” yet have hatred toward another believer. This makes him a phony, because if you don’t love a brother or sister, whom you can see, how can you truly love God, whom you can’t see?
Today’s message from the Institute for Creation Research:
November 5, 2020
Mortify Your Fleshly Members
“Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry.” (Colossians 3:5)
This imperative command is very important for the twice-born. It is nothing less than an active execution of passionate, evil deeds born from the lusts of the flesh. “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live” (Romans 8:13). The list that follows is unyielding.
Fornication (porneia) includes all deviant and extramarital sex (Leviticus 18:6-23; Romans 1:26-28).
Uncleanness (akatharsia) references that which is “dirty; foul, wanton, or lewd” (Ephesians 4:17-19).
Inordinate affection (pathos) is a word used only of homosexuality (Romans 1:26; 1 Thessalonians 4:5).
Evil desire (epithumia) describes evil cravings (1 Peter 4:3; Jude 1:17-19).
Covetousness (pleonexia) is simply greediness that is idolatry (2 Peter 2:12-14; 1 Thessalonians 2:5).
This evil behavior will surely bring the “wrath of God...against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18). That judgment will be carried out on such people because of an impenitent heart that is “treasuring up” the “righteous judgment of God” (Romans 2:5-6).
The most startling fact of this behavior is that those who willfully participate in it know “the judgment of God” and that “they which commit such things are worthy of death.” Not only does this behavior signify a rebellious heart but also an open desire to “have pleasure in them” (Romans 1:32).
“Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience” (Ephesians 5:6). HMM III

So, the phrase entrepreneur, let’s begin there. Has every person ever looked this up within the dictionary? I’d in no way heard the word entrepreneur when i was at faculty. In no way did Digital Marketing Company Nottingham absolutely everyone say “you! The lady that talks in magnificence and gets kicked out an entire lot”
“you! The girl that gets suspended”
“you! The girl that is clever – but doesn’t seem to be engaged in a whole lot of this content material”. That become me. No person ever stated “you understand what? Maybe you have to reflect onconsideration on being an entrepreneur.”
and this is pretty sudden to me due to the fact in case you haven’t already picked it up, i’m from wellington, new zealand and i went to a certainly innovative faculty – it was known as wellington high faculty that is now over one hundred and thirty years antique. We known as teachers with the aid of their first names, it became co-ed; boys and girls, we didn’t wear a uniform. Inside the senior years it become move if you need and don’t go if you don’t need – which didn’t suit every body. We should study topics like journalism and horticulture which became notable, but nonetheless, the simplest pathway they ever presented to us in 1994, which become the yr i ended excessive college, turned into which you go proper through to yr 12, that you then pass and get a tertiary education and then you definitely get a process. That’s all i ever knew. Each my parent didn’t run agencies, one became a instructor at my school, so that you can believe how mortified he become at my behaviour at instances. No person ever supplied this idea of being an entrepreneur. Whilst i've heard the phrase entrepreneur over time, on occasion it’s were given terrible connotations, hasn’t it? Check these phrases at the slide in the back of me. I imply who desires to be a multi-millionaire? A magnate? A dealer? What about a multi-millionaire, or a massive shot, or a big wig? Or maybe a whizz-youngster. So the use of the word “entrepreneur” virtually dates back to the 1800s and it’s a french word. And through the years it has grown in popularity. I feel like in recent years if something, the word entrepreneur has taken on a life of its personal and is perhaps even over used – wouldn’t you settle? These days, i’m pretty sure while you’re growing up in new zealand, australia or elsewhere inside the international that pretty possibly, and that i simply hope this is actual, you're advised approximately the opportunity to head on a direction of building your very own enterprise – if that’s what you want to do. And that i implore all of you too, that even if you have taken the conventional course of analyzing and going and getting a task. That at any time you can choose to do a “aspect hustle” or even assignment out and start a new business. Did you already know that the colonel from kentucky, that made the famous kentucky fried fowl or kfc, didn’t start his business till he changed into in his 70s?! So in case you need to be an entrepreneur or you simply need to have an entrepreneurial attitude that’s a piece greater like an entrepreneurial person – what does that mean? To me it way a number of various things. It approach to think differently and all the ones times i used to be at high college stepping into trouble, struggling with the educational work, it’s due to the fact i notion otherwise, and i simply didn’t fit the mold. So in case you’re deliberating a person right now that feels like that, whether it’s your personal toddler or a nephew or a niece or someone you’ve taught, possibly, just perhaps, they’re an entrepreneur too. To tell you the way i came to exercise session i used to be an entrepreneur (and how it wasn’t one of these horrific factor and has in reality brought me a lot of tremendous opportunities in this life) permit me let you know a bit about my adventure. As i stated, i began life in wellington new zealand wherein i used to be born and bred till the age of 21. I created my first business when i used to be 17 years antique when i determined to begin a newspaper even as at college. As i stated, a number of the topics at school weren’t for me – i’d by no means touch computers until i had to do a journalism path and needed to discover ways to type out my story. Then my dad said “you have to begin a newspaper and you ought to do it on recreation,” and i concept “that sounds extremely good to me because i like sport!”
in reality at that time i was inside the new zealand crew for water polo for my age organization and i educated a lot. I additionally did a number of swimming and quite a few surf lifestyles-saving and i gained loads of medals. I was a water baby i wager you could say. And the thing that got me surely inquisitive about starting the newspaper – we all must be stimulated with the aid of some thing – and for me, at age of 17, it become cash. I wanted cash to pay for my recreation, which became unfunded. My parents didn’t have the cash to keep putting in to pay for the uniforms or the trips and all of the costs related to sport. So, i began that newspaper. And in those days, for the ones folks vintage sufficient to recollect, it turned into bromide, not virtual at all. And that i had a number of joy dropping off in my little pink mini to every high school in wellington, a package of newspapers. And as it became made via children, for children, they gobbled it! Then i get this enterprise call from an american man who stated ‘you’ve stolen my concept!’ he turned into high-quality pissed off at me so i stated “how could i've stolen your idea? I’ve by no means met you, i don’t realize who you're or what your idea even is!”
properly it turns out that this man had been making plans to start a secondary school sports newspaper loads like mine for about two years. And here was me, coming along in any respect of 17 years vintage and i just began this thing, and i thought such things as $200 complete page advertisements became exquisite for installing the financial institution to pay for my game. So he demanded a meeting with me and here i am, my first boardroom meeting as a 17 years vintage, with my dad there for guide, slicing my first enterprise deal. And you’re probably questioning what that frypan reference is up at the display screen? I’ll inform you now. Years later, a guy in silicon valley said to me, “ you already know companies are lots like pancakes – you stuff the primary one up,” and that i said, “ oh my god, that’s so genuine for me!” due to the fact that newspaper was the first enterprise and without know it i cut that deal and it ended up being a truely bad commercial enterprise deal once i look again. It become a wage, a small lump sum and that i had to maintain to paintings for him for the relaxation of the 12 months. Which for me, become nice on the time, due to the fact i just wanted to train and get the cash to head and play towards australia later that year. Nicely i did what i used to be requested, and that i learnt my first very good business lesson. Which is, if making a decision to go into business with a person, or whatever it's miles you decide to do as an entrepreneur, ensure it aligns together with your values. On this revel in, his values and my values did no longer align. And it didn’t workout. On the stop of the 12 months we parted ways and that changed into the give up of my first commercial enterprise. For the subsequent seven years, from age 21 to 28 i travelled the arena and that i supplemented my travels with travel writing, so i wager you can say i was a travel blogger before it was even a issue. So that’s my 2d tip on becoming an entrepreneur or growing an entrepreneurial attitude, you need to create your own opportunities. Human beings aren’t necessarily going to say “hello, you must do that” every now and then you’ve simply were given to assume “i want to try this. How can i make it happen?” then make it show up! Speedy forwarding in my tale, i fell pregnant at the pill, in london, and i needed to training session what to do subsequent. By using this stage, i was the editor of a newspaper at age 26. So, i used to be doing quite nicely with the profession component. However to fall pregnant at the pill in london, without a doubt made me re-assume existence and what i used to be going to next. We ultimately had the kid, and for some time there we stuck it out in london looking to make things work, however while it have become too tough we decided to move again to wherein our circle of relatives lived, which became australia. So then, a few years skip, i locate some paintings in australia after which i've a 2nd baby. So now i have a 3 yr vintage and a new child at home and that i assume, “how am i going to earn cash now?!”
so i start any other business! Running from domestic around my two kids have been the standard beginnings of my 0. 33 commercial enterprise, the innovative collective. And in fact, i didn’t mention that during among my “pancake business” (the newspaper) and my career in london i additionally commenced a web enterprise selling t shirts known as “tikanga teeshirts”. Tikanga means “culture “and tikanga o te wa – those are maori phrases i’m the usage of – manner fashion. I created that enterprise due to the fact i used to be honestly happy with our indigenous subculture and language in new zealand. Though i am no longer maori, i was introduced up with it. And that i wanted to percentage with human beings that i was a proud new zealander and here became our subculture. So the teeshirt business i started out in 2002 and not using a capital. I put up a internet site up after teaching myself html, and 4 years later, offered it for 5 figures. In order that changed into an awesome outcome, doing the overall cycle of the business, truly better than the first pancake. But the 0. 33 business, the creative collective, that’s in which all of it truly commenced. I got a logo designed via a friend, i were given that revealed in an a3 format and laminated, put it up within the have a look at and growth we’re in commercial enterprise! I then threw up a internet site (now we’re really in enterprise), i made a enterprise card (hey everyone, i’ve got a business!)
in those days it wasn’t very common for mums to work at home – or it didn’t seem like it changed into. I didn’t have many friends to name on. But it’s become an increasing number of famous now and that i think that this is incredible, that parents who pick to stay at domestic and lift children can nevertheless earn an earnings and do some thing they love. Now nowadays, the creative collective has 12 staff throughout offices on the sunshine coast and newcastle and approximately 40 contractors. I very own a business constructing that we operate out of at the sunshine coast and we have clients all over australia and even some worldwide ones. It has a by-product organisation known as the schooling collective, wherein we train human beings digital competencies. And importantly, we’ve had a lot of amusing with it all. Now there’s a super metaphor obtainable approximately what it takes to be an entrepreneur that i’d like to percentage with you. An entrepreneur says to a mentor, “be my mentor, display me what it takes to be an entrepreneur.”
the mentor says, “k come meet me down at the water early when it’s surely certainly dark and cold out”. The entrepreneur meets the mentor and on arrival the mentor says “walk with me” and absolutely dressed heads directly into the water. The entrepreneur says to the mentor “wait! I need to get undressed. I’ll get wet…”
the mentor says “no you don’t simply stroll to your clothes”. In order that they enter the water, that is clearly honestly bloodless, and are up to their knees of their garments. The entrepreneur says “oh man that is uncomfortable! What are we doing? This is horrible!”
the mentor smiles and lightly says “that’s proper, just preserve on foot”. In order that they keep walking deeper and deeper into the water, and i ought to truely problematic on this story, but the point is, they stroll until they’re up to their necks, and the entrepreneur at this factor is in reality struggling to preserve his head above water because his clothes are wet, he’s freezing bloodless, and the whole thing is weighing him down.
“i hate this!” he again complains to the mentor.
“i need to get out! I will’t cope! I’m going to drown!” he yells desperately to the mentor. And when he receives to date, the mentor says, “my pal, that is what it takes to be a an entrepreneur. You’ve got to be prepared to get from your comfort sector. You’re going to swim into un-chartered waters. You’re going to be uncomfortable, and you’ll once in a while feel like you’re sinking. At times you can even assume you’re drowning, but you’ve just were given to maintain going. You’ve got to attempt to swim even when things are weighing you down.”
so that’s any other tip i've for all the budding entrepreneurs obtainable. You’ve were given to be prepared to get from your consolation region and make it paintings! My first step to get out of my comfort region, was coming into a enterprise award. I were in business simply six months with the creative collective, and that i thought “hello, i need to market my enterprise, or give some thing a move here to get the phrase available approximately my enterprise.”
so i throw my hat into the small enterprise champions awards, and i couldn’t trust it. I received! I won the young entrepreneur of the year award in queensland in 2007. Out of this enjoy i realised that coming into business awards worked quite nicely and that i might need to do extra of that due to the fact the phones began ringing, and commercial enterprise started coming in. I also met a few extraordinary human beings at that occasion. Off the again of winning that award, i were given supplied to go on tv, on a country wide show about specific companies. On it they depicted me as the mum who labored from home juggling my younger ones that is precisely what i was doing at the time. That equal piece came out on channel nine, after which featured on the vodafone website and on qantas’s inflight television and things definitely took off. And this changed into all from going out of doors my consolation sector and coming into a business award. The alternative matters i’ve learned along my years of being an entrepreneur, is that you want to be open to new experiences, places and people. That's precisely why i say, yes to riding 3 hours to talk at a bundaberg tedx occasion. I wanted to come back up to meet new human beings and feature a brand new experience in a brand new area. Via my

entrepreneurial/commercial enterprise journey, i’ve surely been able to do this. As an instance this is me in the big apple, coming into the worldwide girls in business awards. And in that 12 months, my children have been elderly 2 and 5, the currency exchange fee changed into terrible and that i felt so responsible leaving them to wait those awards. I didn’t win that award, however it turned into nevertheless so really worth going and being open to those new reports. As a result of attending that event, that night time, i went night time clubbing, as you do with the ceo of the complete awards. And he supplied me an possibility to sell those awards in australia and new zealand, which i then did for the subsequent 10 years. And that has changed into having connections with a number of the nice commercial enterprise people in australian and new zealand, which has been an exceptional experience as properly. I suppose you want to place yourself accessible, and do not forget you've got as a lot proper to be there as anyone else. Through entering any Digital Marketing Companies in Nottingham other business award application, the telstra commercial enterprise womens awards and prevailing enterprise owner of the yr in queensland, extra opportunities unfolded for me. I got invited to go to silicon valley, which in case you don’t recognise, is the tech capital of the arena.

Announcing DRAWFULGEDDON: the Drawful 2 Tournament of the End Times
Update: The Results and archived broadcast!
Here’s the final results! And below is the YouTube export of the stream (Twitch version here). Thanks for playing everyone!!
youtube
On Saturday night, April 25, 2020, if the world hasn’t ended yet, we’ll be hosting a live Drawful 2 tournament at https://www.twitch.tv/berniehou starting at 9pm ET, and you’re invited to either compete with some of the most fun Drawful players around, or play along from the audience!
The Format
This will be a single-elimination, 3-round tournament of at most 32 total players, where all the games will be 8-player games, with 4 players (the top 2 by score, plus the top 2 by likes!) of each game advancing to the next round, until there are 8 players left, who will compete in the Championship game (i.e. the third round). There’ll be 4 games in the 1st round, 2 games in the 2nd round, and then the 8-player Championship game. The 2 ultimate co-winners of the tournament will be the final points leader, alongside with the likes leader, of the Championship Game.
What is Drawful 2?
Oh man it’s so great. It’s a Pictionary-like party game where you try to draw a picture of a phrase that you’re given, and then everyone else types in their guesses as to what it is, and tries to pick out the correct answer among all the guesses. As a drawer you get points for anyone who picks out the right answer. As a guesser, you get points for picking the right answer, fooling other players into picking your guess, and other people (including audience members!) giving your answer “likes” because it’s funny or for any other reason. In this tournament we’re rewarding both the highest points scorers AND the highest likes getters!
How to Enter to Play in the Tournament
Space is limited, so there’s no guarantee we can fit you in, but if you love playing Drawful, sign up and maybe you’ll get in or at the least be a standby!
Tell me (by whisper on Twitch) that you’d like to commit to play in the tournament.
Provide proof that you’ve played Drawful before, e.g. a link to a past stream or saved video you were on. If you can’t do this but think you can convince me anyway, give it a shot. Sorry but we don’t want to be explaining how the game works to players during the event.
Give me the best way to contact you, whether it’s by whisper on Twitch, Discord DM, email, whatever.
How to Just Watch Instead
Drawfulgeddon will be just as much fun to watch as it’ll be to play in! That’s because every audience member gets to make their guesses on each drawing, and give out likes to their favorite answers, which directly determines who wins.
You can just watch and not be part of the audience, in which case you can use any device and go to https://www.twitch.tv/berniehou when the broadcast is live (or use the Twitch app and find me at berniehou). Click to follow me there on Twitch to get notified when we’re live.
To watch and be in the audience at the same time, you’ll either need to be on a computer with 2 web browser windows open, or have 2 devices. One will be tuned in to the stream as in Step 1, the other will be on the jackbox.tv website. All you’ll do there is type in a short room code which you’ll be given when each game is about to start, and then you’ll be able to easily vote on and give likes to player answers .
Who Am I?
My name’s Bernie, I’m just this guy, you know? I created the popular webcomic Alien Loves Predator back in the day. I’m not affiliated with and don’t work for Jackbox Games. I’ve been playing their games on our Twitch channel every week (Thursdays, these days) with my best pals for over 3 years now, and, along with some awesome friends we’ve met on Twitch, we’ve gotten pretty good at these games.
I ran this awesome Quiplash 2 tournament a month ago!
Some Extra Details and Rules
The tournament and player answers are rated R. Adult language and themes are permitted, but we draw a very hard line at racist, misogynistic, homophobic, etc. references. Offenders will be quickly censored and banned. We’ll make sure the “VIP” of each game is also a trusted moderator of our channel, who will be able to deal with any possible trolls.
An intended schedule of which competitors are assigned to which games will be posted the day of the tournament. Keep in mind that the schedule will have to be flexible, because if one or more players fail to join a game they are assigned to, other players will be pulled from a subsequent game to fill their spot(s).
If a player fails to join a game they were assigned to, they aren’t necessarily disqualified, if they can join a later game in the same round. If all games in that round are complete, though, then they will be disqualified.
We can’t be responsible for any technical difficulties any player experiences on their end, but if a game gets interrupted due to a Jackbox server problem, or a disconnect on my end, we’ll do everything possible to resume in the fairest way possible to all players, including efforts to preserve the scoring of the last completed round.
In the event that we don’t have 8 official competitors to fill out a given game, we’ll use Fillers - people who will play but will not count in the standings - to fill it to 8. If we have, say, 12 competitors left in a given round, we’d divide them into 2 groups of 6, and add 2 Fillers to each to bring both games up to 8 players.
It’s gonna be so fun you guys!
But only if you’re there. So sign up to play today, and see you there!

The hardest part to get used to in riding a motorcycle.
The most difficult concept for me to get comfortable with was counter steering. I don’t know why. On paper and when explained to me it made sense. I understand why it needed to happen and how. The fucking physical experience of it though did not feel right. There’s a 300 pound object between my legs and I am to counter steer it and all will be good. Like fuck that is hard to get comfortable with.
I practiced this on my bicycle. Watch a shit ton of Youtube videos and really felt I could understand what that fuck it meant. I didn’t get that clicking comfortable sensation until the endorsement. That would be after my first course and second course, buying a bike, and all the other tests for the permit and one for the endorsement. And even now I’m not 100% comfortable but I get the concept and I can feel how it’s working and can envision how it’s supposed to be working. But damn it took a lot of tries and it will also take someone else who’s new a lot of tries. And that’s OK.
The stages I progressed through started with being confused by what the fuck it meant to press on the bar or press down on the bar? Am I pressing down? Am I pressing the bar forward? How hard do I press? What should I expect the motorcycle to do? I learned in order to “press” the handle bar it meant pushing the hand bar away from the turn you’re going in to and then you will lean the bike in the direction you are turning. Even that sounds fucking confusing.
When they say press I now understand that to mean, yes you are pushing the handle bar forward in the opposition direction, but you will start to lean in the correct direction and therefore end up pressing on the handle bar for stability in the correct direction. Technically you’re still turning the handle bars in the wrong direction.
I figured out the concept but it was still fucking hard and awkward feeling. I didn’t understand why these other kids in my class could do it with ease and agility but I felt robotic and forced. This understanding came in my second class when I realized how tin man I was. In order to ride a motorcycle you have to be light on your hands. Like real light. it’s almost as if you’re working with that bike not forcing the bike to work for you. Yes you’re in control but the bike is doing the work you want to be light on it and give it subtle cues and guidance to make it work properly for you. Riding on the handle bars and feeling like you have to force them isn’t right. There are times you will need to stabilize the bars but still just nice and loose.
I know that sounds like no big deal. But the stress from riding a 300 pound motorcycle trying to get used to maneuvering this beast and remembering what the rest of your body is supposed to do tenses you the fuck up. You have to really remind yourself to stay loose and mobile in the shoulders and arms. Then you’ll see how little effort you need to press on the bars to tip in to the turn. It’s kind of a cool feeling. Now how far you press forward determines how far you tip and at various speeds and radius of curves the pressing will be different. I’m still working on figuring this out.
Getting comfortable in tipping in to the counter steer quickly in a high gear well that didn’t come until the very end when it had to for me. The end of the endorsement test is a timed 22.5 second figure 8. You go through a right corner and then one left corner at an average speed of 15 mph. I may have been hitting those speeds in 2nd gear already while practicing on the course but I was never timed. So getting between the two turns one needed to accelerate and then tip in quickly and stay in a good angle as to not over shoot the turn. This I’m still not comfortable with as a noobie. To be honest I’m not even sure how I passed that part, maybe I was just a favorite.
This is the part of the test where flattening out corners is best and being more skilled and experienced is needed. I wasn’t either of those and am still trying to figure out how to flatten the corner in practice. One thing I will say is I had to commit to those fucking corners. And maybe thats what the test really helped accomplish. I had the turn and I needed to commit. And committing is more about willing to press more leading to leaning more and having a tighter turn. When doing this I still had to remain loose and bring my chest forward, I couldn’t shy away from the lean of the bike. I had to embrace that scary feeling of how low of an angle my bike was leaning in order to get that corner. Which I did I guess because I passed with just .36 of a second to spare.
Committing though to a deeper lean to make a tighter faster corner takes so much muscle memory. I am excited to practice with my Yamaha R3 in an empty parking lot going different speeds, pressing the hand bar with various amounts of force and seeing how that affects lean. Gotta test it all out hundreds of times to see what my bike can do with my body.
And as a person gets better with corner and tipping and speed, then another challenging concept comes in to play a lot more. Traction. We talked about it in the course and it made some sense but not really. We weren’t moving at fast enough speeds or doing enough maneuvers for me to really understand how traction comes in to play and what it means to spend some in one place and how that affects the rest of the bike.
It’s a process and it will take time. Have to stay with it and stay excited. Also realizing more and more the fucking gear for riding is such a money suck. Ughh.

Spoilers for One Piece, but it’s very specific parts. One Piece is huge and I don’t think reading this will effect your potential enjoyment of it.
Disclaimer: this is under-edited and I’m not getting paid for this, so I haven’t gone out of my way to make this the best piece of writing it could be. It’s mostly stream of consciousness.
“You can stray from the path of a man, you can stray from the path of a woman, but you can never stray from the path of a human!” - Bon Clay in One Piece Chapter 129
So looking at when the English Viz editions came out, I’ve determined I started reading One Piece in 2004, at age 13, and Bon Clay probably wasn’t introduced until I was 15. I remember putting the Bon Clay quote above in my Myspace profile. I even had Bon-chan’s character song on my ipod. There was something that seriously resonated with me like Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel” or The Kink’s “Lola” or Prince’s “I Would Die 4 U”---all that same sentiment “I'm not a woman, I'm not a man, I am something that you'll never understand.” But Bon Clay wasn’t coming from decades-old culture, manga was a booming phenomena when I was teen. With it I felt part of a thriving community complete with new books every month, cosplay, conventions. I loved learning about Okama, a slang term for Japanese drag queens. At the same time I was learning about American drag culture as well. Around this time I watched Rocky Horror, which led me to Hedwig, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and To Wong Foo. None of this media led me to any proper medical or academic thoughts about gender, but dang I loved spending time finding Ru Paul and Tom Rubnitz clips on Youtube. To me anime started to blend with other queer media, one of the first things I used Youtube for was to find Psycho Le Cemu music videos, a costume J-rock band with GNC members.
"Want to be one of my new breed? Come on, transcend the boundaries of gender!" -Ivankov
As I was graduating High School, One Piece was on the Impel Down Arc, chapter 525. By now Bon Clay hasn’t appeared that much, but is at least an established BFF to the main character, Luffy. Back in chapter 129 Bon Clay starts off as a villain, the 2nd strongest in a criminal organization. Luffy immediately loves Bon-chan’s fun and free-spirited attitude, and eventually Bon Clay turns on the organization and makes a meaningful sacrifice to help Luffy’s crew escape. 300 chapters later, Bon Clay is alive and ready to help Luffy escape again. This time from the World Government’s most awful torturous prison. It is in this arc where an entire clan of Okama are introduced. Including Ivankov, whose fingers can transform into needles that induces instant Hormone Replacement Therapy. There’s some sort of beautiful metaphor here, in this horrendous deathprison a bunch of gender varying Queens have carved out a sanctuary to be themselves. The Okama clan eventually escapes with Luffy, but Bon-chan once again sacrifices himself so they can escape.
“A true Okama never dies”
I feel like at this point of Tumblr in 2017 it goes without saying that all this media is hecka problematic. I started unraveling the implications of this type of media in college where I was finally in an environment that could teach me the different types of transgender identities. I became aware of how dangerous tropes about gender non-conforming people permits a culture of violence toward folks living their real lives as trans folks. I wonder what effect One Piece, as the most popular manga in the world, has on trans and GNC individuals. “Okama” seems to somewhat be used as a slur in Japanese Culture, but I wonder if it could be subject to as much debate as the T-slur was in the states. I remember taking a break from Ru Paul’s Drag Race (something I had loved since it’s premiere) in college when the discourse has hit peak. It annoyed me that this increasingly mainstream drag show couldn’t understand its effect on how the world sees transgender people. I’ve since gotten back into Drag Race, because it seems they’ve sorta listened and have adjusted the program, but also I think the lines are so dang blurry. There’s no line in sand where gender non-conformity ends and being transgender begins. Cultural differences aside, there are definitely instances where One Piece participates in violent tropes of gay panic and trans trickery. It’s amazing that the Okama have their own island, but it’a disappointing that all we get to see of it is lady-obcessive Sanji’s constant fear of getting queer cooties. We can’t expect much from a manga geared to boys, and drawn by a man who draws all his women characters with the exact same skinny figure eight proportions. One Piece remains one of my favorite comics, but it’s important to criticize its regular missteps.
At the same time, I love Bon Clay. I love the unabashed flamboyant dancing mixed with fearsome strength. I love that he lives, both times! Most of the American queer media I’d experienced at the time were tragic, or at least showed the characters getting fucked with because of the way they presented themselves. Bon Clay is instantly beloved by the crew even though at first he threatens them. Ivankov is revealed to be a higher up in the Revolutionary Army, along with their partner Inazuma, both are sure to be major players in the One Piece world. Okama are a big enough part of One Piece to warrant their own wiki page, I like that they are an important part of this popular story. Though I do wonder how a queer person from Japan would parse this, maybe the representation is more hurtful than helpful. I don’t want to impose western interpretations on manga, though I do plan on visiting the Japan Society’s current show “A Third Gender” to try to expand my own historical context. I recently read My Brother’s Husband by the iconic Gengoroh Tagame. This page keeps coming to mind:
I feel like the logic goes like this: If the larger population only sees queer people as stereotypical flamboyant trickers, than that isn’t going to create a culture where every type of personality feels safe to come out. At the same time, these vibrant cultures originally developed under the cover of nightlife and have since been co-opted into media at large, which is perhaps more accessible, i.e. more kids get to see glances possibilities. Dissecting media is a lot, I don’t think I’ve read enough Adorno or whatever to truly develop any of this as thesis. All I know is my personal experience, the empowering feeling I get when I revisit the queer characters of One Piece.

Donald Trump's Marketing Secrets Exposed!
It's main! Currently in it's third season, Donald Trump's killer television collection "The Pupil" is officially a "franchise business.". With new periods planned, a garments line that brings "The Pupil" brand, DVD's in manufacturing, and also mega-fortunes to be made, it's not a surprise that the king of realty ... a male that understands a good idea when he sees it ... is included. I such as Donald Trump a whole lot. Primarily because I find out something new from him whenever I view him at work. One of the barbs critics focus on Donald Trump is that he's an immoral egomaniac that can not obtain enough of the spotlight. Well, they may call it egomania, but from my perspective ... it's a dazzling service approach. I'll confess: I'm an online marketer. My task is to make individuals sit up as well as take notice of my customers (as well as their services or products), and to supply a "brand" message at every chance. That's exactly what "The Donald" does. If that makes me him a self-concerned, self-congratulatory target for media pundits, that cares? Since it additionally makes him a "family name" ... in homes from Bangor, Maine to Bangkok Thailand. Brand name recognition is the structure of every marketing technique. If you're a local business owner, YOU are your brand name. That means you need to sell on your own along with your product or service. Trump understands the concept, and also what's why you see his brand name Trump on everything. You've got to be willing to obtain name around ... Ready to state, "Hey look me!" ... Ready to defend on your own, rely on your own, and blow your very own horn ... Noisally and also as usually as possible. Have you discovered that each episode of "The Pupil" consists of a segment devoted to a current Trump task? This as a chance for "The Donald" to billboard a success tale. Week after week, he tells numerous people, "I'm an excellent real estate titan as well as below's the evidence." Take an idea from "The Donald" ... You've got to be your very own full time marketing project 1 day a day ... since no one else will! Particularly if you're a business owner. When you're the own of a business, specifically a new service, it's kind of like being a parent. Prior to your company can "talk" ... prior to your "youngster" has grown and also established an online reputation that essentially "speaks for itself" ... you need to be the "agent.". How much time will this last? You might not intend to hear this, yet the solution is-- forever. You must constantly be ready to lug the banner for your business as well as your success. So, before you offer Donald Trump "two thumbs done" for outrageous self-promotion, think about how his ego ... and also his propensity for savvy advertising ... is an actual possession to his business realm. If it's excellent sufficient for "The Donald," it's great sufficient for me ... and also YOU, also. The following time you take a seat for the following episode of the "Book Smarts vs. Road Smarts" period of "The Apprentice," open your mind. Instead of picking at the unfavorable characteristics of "The Donald" or his "leading guns" Carolyn and George, think about their success as well as ask yourself ... What can I gain from this guy? Exactly how does he marketing himself? Exactly how can I adjust this idea to me and my organisation? The fact is, if you can't access the very least a handful of "golden nuggets" from this super-successful entrepreneur, you may be helpless. What I would love to do is share several of the crucial advertising understandings I have actually picked up from Donald Trump as well as "The Pupil" that you, also, can utilize in your company. Before we get to the advertising insights, nevertheless, there's a larger business idea that you need to understand. I'll provide it to you the way I such as ideal ... directly ... "Lok-ed and crammed" to blow your mind:. You have something to pick up from individuals of any age, any kind of background, any type of education and learning, and any level of success. The prospect on "The Pupil" can not hold a handle to Donald Trump's success. Yet weekly, they draw rabbits out of hats, increasing (more or less) to meet the challenges offered to them. Every new task makes them much better in organisation as they develop, refine methods, and also reply to what they're learning. There's no better formula for success than the flexibility as well as strength they show. So don't just focus on "The Donald" for your weekly dosage of marketing magic. Keep an eye on the prospects, too! You never recognize who's obtained something to instruct you. Pupil Marketing Lesson # 1 - Way Too Much Is Never Enough. In fact, "way too much is never ever adequate" was a successful motto from the very early days of MTV, yet it might just as conveniently be the "poster child" for advertising and marketing. You can never get in touch with consumers also regularly. There's a marketing truism around: To market a possibility, you'll need to make repeated get in touch with. That's why most direct mail campaigns make use of a minimum of three messages, why publications place as numerous as 5 membership types in each concern, and also why "The Donald" states the word "Trump" as often times as he can in every episode of "The Pupil.". Does it make a difference? Can it make "The Donald" a lot more effective? Definitely. In the 21st Century, every consumer is pounded with advertising messages ... up to 3,000 a day for some people. After a while, they simply ignore. Or, if they do not tune-out, consumers are typically so sidetracked that they do not actually listen to or see an advertising and marketing message. It's even more effective to send out 3 mailers to 1,000 prospects than one mailer to 3,000 though the expense coincides. An additional strategy is a "timed" or "sequenced" campaign. In this sort of campaign, message # 1 is a teaser. # 2 is the "digestive tracts" and a present offer. # 3 offers buying directions. The sequenced strategy permits you to produce both assumptions and also recognition. Leads look forward to learning through you. It doesn't take a rocket researcher to determine that you need to maintain hammering away at the eyes and also ears of potential prospects. But the main factor for this several not be as evident as you assume ... By duplicating your advertising message over and also over, you "imbed" that message in the consumer's mind. Then, when the consumer requires what you have to supply, they'll consider you initially ... even if aren't proactively marketing to them in the moment. The objective is to make yourself the automatic go-to service for a trouble whenever that issue takes place. The consumer's sub-conscious will certainly do the driving. Pupil Advertising Lesson # 2 - Sex Sells, But Way Too Much Sex Wards Off. The prospects picked for "The Pupil" are evenly eye-catching, articulate, as well as the type of individuals that the majority of other individuals enjoy considering. The producers of the program-- including Mark Burnett that produces that mega-hit "Survivor"-- know that sex sells on tv. Sex sells in marketing, as well. During the 2nd period of "The Pupil" when "The Donald" pitted the males against the ladies, tasks were routinely won many thanks to allure ... ladies's AND guys's. ( You may remember that the males's group made use of among their attractive members to flirt with and sway a table of gay restaurants throughout a dining establishment difficulty.). However if you weren't viewing closely, you could have missed out on the episode where sex didn't offer-- majorly ... and THAT is the factor of this mini-lesson. In among the last episodes of the second season, candidates were challenged to offer candy. On one team, 2 blonde women donned matching red leotards and also blinked-- their smiles only-- at male leads. Sales were vigorous since, as all of us know, sex offers ... and for many guys there's nothing sexier than a leggy blonde. The other group was struggling, so with just minutes to save prior to completion of a task, one employee used to drop her skirt as a way to convince male passersby to buy her sweet. They purchased ... in droves. They weren't getting sweet, naturally, they were getting sex ... just like the individual who discovers a car suddenly alluring as a result of the leggy swimwear version that's advertising it at the Vehicle Program ... and also much like the guys who bought from the blonde "twins" on the other team. The issue with the "acquire my sweet and you can see my buns" method is that it mored than the top. As "The Donald" pointed out in the boardroom, the candidate had not been offering candy ... she was selling sex literally, with a candy bar bonus offer. That, my pals, is why so many online marketers are referred to as prostitutes ... as well as why the prospect that dropped her skirt was dropped from the program at the end of the job. As "The Donald" placed it so eloquently: You're terminated! The skirt-dropping candidate was discharged although that she had met her mission-- to earn money. Why? By over-selling sexuality, she left a negative over-all perception. Sex is powerful stuff ... use it carefully and moderately. Apprentice Advertising And Marketing Secret # 3: Cross-Promotion. I have actually discussed this concept till I am blue in the face, but I still satisfy potential customers that stubbornly say, "My item is such a champion that I do not need to partner with other services and also give away any one of my profits.". That's outrageous! Or more naturally "No man is an island" ... and no business is either. There's not a firm in the world that can endure without a constant stream of certified leads coming through the door. So it doesn't matter what market you're in or what product/service you make available, whoever you are ... Linking your item to another preferred item, solution, business, or person is constantly a winning marketing strategy. " The Pupil" has actually featured cross-promotions with Hamburger King, Pepsi, the Earth Hollywood restaurant chain, and also various other well-know, exceptionally effective services. If these super-corporations benefit from cross-promotions, does not it appear rational that your organisation can, too? The largest trend in premium advertising and marketing today is film and TELEVISION cross- promotions. Since E.T. offered Reese's Pieces a substantial increase, online marketers have actually aggressively attempted to get their products "placed" in movies and also tv programs. Having a good service or product is INADEQUATE ... although it's absolutely "Work 1." Quality as well as worth bring your consumers back for even more. Yet how the heck do they do how remarkable your things is if they have not also bought from you yet? In order to make a sale, you need someone you can market to. To accomplish that you need reliable marketing systems to get these individuals in your channel to begin with. Cross-promotion is the trick. Customers that are currently "offered" on business your partnering with ended up being, essentially, pre-sold on you. And cross-promotion allows you to broaden your marketing reach without investing any added marketing bucks. Can you think of just how much Burger King would have to pay for a 15-second area during "The Apprentice.". By appearing within the show in a very carefully negotiated cross-promotion, Burger King gets all the gain (also known as the audience) with none of the discomfort (advertising and marketing costs). What did "The Donald" get out of every one of this? In addition to finding a firm going to let his pupils take over their organisation for the day, customers will currently "think Trump" when they acquire among the hamburgers promoted on the program. Brilliant, huh? You're Fired ... Fired-Up, That Is. I've "distilled" the significance of just three of the reliable marketing ideas that Donald Trump has accidentally shared on "The Apprentice." They coincide approaches he utilizes in his very own organisation, but he's allow the pet cat out of the bag and also now his secrets are YOUR keys. If you're inspired by what you've reviewed right here as well as would like to go deep into Trump's mind, "The Donald" has written a number of powerful books loaded with tales, anecdotes, secrets, and remarkably efficient strategies for making it to the top ... as well as remaining there with thick and slim. * Trump: How to Obtain Rich. * Trump: The Method to the Top. * Trump: Enduring on top. * Trump: The Art of the Offer. * Trump: The Art of Survival. Did you observe that each book leads with words "Trump"? He never misses an opportunity to promote his brand. I told you "The Donald" was a master online marketer! And consider this: if you can ask, obtain, or steal just 1 or 2 ideas from a guy who's remaining on a billion-dollar realm ... suggestions that could jumpstart your service realm ... would not it be worth 20 dollars? (Much less if you get a pre-owned copy on Ebay). This is your chance to be "The Apprentice" of Donald Trump ... to pick up from the master ... without bothering with getting fired on national television.

Cesar Kuriyama: One second every day
Translator: Joseph Geni Reviewer: Morton Bast So, i am an artist. I reside in the big apple, and i’ve been working in advertising for — ever due to the fact that I left school, so about seven, eight years now, and it was once draining. I worked a variety of late nights. I labored various weekends, and i determined myself by no means having time for the entire initiatives that I desired to work on on my own. And someday I used to be at work and i saw a talk via Stefan Sagmeister on TED, and it was referred to as "The vigour of time off," and he spoke about how each seven years, he takes a yr off from work so he might do his possess creative tasks, and i used to be instantly influenced, and i simply stated, "I have got to do this. I have to take a year off. I have got to take time to travel and spend time with my family and start my possess inventive ideas." So the first of those tasks ended up being whatever I called "One second daily." basically i’m recording one 2d of daily of my existence for the rest of my lifestyles, chronologically compiling these one-2nd tiny slices of my lifestyles into one single steady video unless, , I can not file them anymore. The intent of this mission is, one: I hate now not remembering matters that I’ve carried out in the past. There is all these things that I’ve carried out with my life that I don’t have any recollection of until anyone brings it up, and routinely I consider, "Oh yeah, that is some thing that I did." And something that i noticed early on in the task was that if I wasn’t doing whatever fascinating, i would most commonly forget to record the video. So the day — the primary time that I forgot, it particularly hurt me, on account that it can be anything that I fairly wanted to — from the moment that I grew to become 30, I wanted to maintain this task going until without end, and having overlooked that one 2d, i spotted, it simply type of created this thing in my head where I by no means forgot ever again. So if I reside to look eighty years of age, i will have a 5-hour video that encapsulates 50 years of my existence. After I flip forty, i will have a one-hour video that involves simply my 30s. This has quite invigorated me day-to-day, once I wake up, to try and do some thing intriguing with my day. Now, probably the most things that i have problems with is that, as the days and weeks and months go via, time simply seems to start blurring and blending into every different and, , I hated that, and visualization is find out how to trigger reminiscence. You realize, this venture for me is a method for me to bridge that hole and keep in mind everything that I’ve carried out. Even simply this one 2nd allows for me to recall the whole lot else I did that at some point. It is intricate, routinely, to pick that one 2nd. On a whats up, i will have maybe three or four seconds that I really need to select, however i will just have to slender it down to 1, however even narrowing it all the way down to that one permits me to don’t forget the opposite three anyway. It is also type of a protest, a private protest, in opposition to the culture we have now the place individuals just are at concerts with their phone telephones out recording the whole live performance, they usually’re stressful you. They’re not even enjoying the show. They’re observing the concert by means of their cell telephone. I hate that. I admittedly was once that man just a little bit, again in the day, and i have made up our minds that the great manner for me to still capture and hold a visual reminiscence of my existence and not be that individual, is to simply record that one second to be able to allow me to trigger that reminiscence of, "Yeah, that concert was mighty.I particularly adored that live performance." And it simply takes a speedy, fast 2nd. I was on a 3-month road trip this summer season. It was whatever that i’ve been dreaming about doing my whole lifestyles, simply using across the U.S. And Canada and just finding out the place to move the next day to come, and it was once form of amazing. I actually ran out, I spent an excessive amount of cash on my avenue go back and forth for the savings that I needed to take my 12 months off, so I needed to, I went to Seattle and i spent some time with buddies working on a relatively neat venture. Probably the most factors that I took my yr off was to spend extra time with my household, and this fairly tragic thing happened the place my sister-in-legislation, her intestine all of the sudden strangled someday, and we took her to the emergency room, and she used to be, she was once in fairly unhealthy form.We close to lost her a couple of occasions, and that i was once there with my brother every day. It helped me recognize anything else for the period of this undertaking, is that recording that one second on a really bad day is incredibly complicated. It can be no longer — we tend to take our cameras out when we’re doing extremely good things. Or we’re, "Oh, yeah, this celebration, let me take a image." however we not often do that once we’re having a foul day, and something horrible is taking place. And that i observed that it can be truly been very, very principal to report even simply that one second of a fairly dangerous moment. It really helps you admire the good occasions. It can be now not normally a hello, so when you’ve got a foul one, I think it can be primary to remember it, just as much as it’s major to don’t forget the times. Now one of the vital things that I do is i do not use any filters, i do not use whatever to — i try to seize the moment as a lot as feasible as the best way that I saw it with my possess eyes. I started a rule of first man or woman standpoint. Early on, I feel I had a couple of movies the place you could see me in it, but i spotted that wasn’t methods to go. The way to quite don’t forget what I noticed used to be to file it as I virtually saw it.Now a couple of things that i have in my head about this project are, would it not be exciting if 1000’s of men and women had been doing this? I grew to become 31 final week, which is there. I consider it would be intriguing to look what all people did with a assignment like this. I feel all people would have an extra interpretation of it. I suppose all people would advantage from simply having that one second to remember every day. In my view, i am tired of forgetting, and this is a really effortless thing to do. I mean, all of us have HD-able cameras in our pockets correct now — most individuals on this room, I guess — and it is some thing that is — I not ever need to forget a further day that I’ve ever lived, and this is my manner of doing that, and it would be relatively intriguing additionally to look, if you could just type in on a website, "June 18, 2018," and you could possibly just see a stream of men and women’s lives on that distinct day from in every single place the world. And i don’t know, I suppose this challenge has plenty of potentialities, and i encourage you all to file just a small snippet of your existence everyday, so that you could not ever omit that that day, you lived.Thank you. (Applause) .

Friday Thoughts
Well, it’s been a hot minute since the last Friday Thoughts post. Sorry for waiting so long to get another one up! They really are some of my favorite posts to do…mostly because I love (love, love!) reading your comments. And I always feel like the reader who makes it to the very end of these posts deserves some massive award. Like, a lifetime supply of mail-order chocolate chip cookies or a magic wand to make all dirty dishes disappear.
2019 has hit our family full force. Not in a bad way, just in an extremely busy way with a few ups and downs and some time-filling projects, traveling, and responsibilities. I’m excited for this Friday Thoughts post to brain dump some of the things that have been on my mind! Let’s gooooo!
1. Game Thoughts: You already know me and my family are game lovers through and through. My holiday game gift guide that I post every year in November is one of my most popular posts (clearly I’m not the only one that loves card and board games!). Already this year, we’ve hit on a few games that have already become fast family favorites. I’m sure you’ll see them on my gift guide later this year, too, but I would be a very bad friend if I made you go eight more months without knowing about them!
First up is this Skull game aff. link. The premise behind the game is age old, and it is so super simple to learn and play. Basically, if you uncover anyone’s skull card, you lose. Plus, it’s a fast game so you don’t have to center your whole evening around one round. Love this one! Speaking of skulls, we haven’t had a ton of time for more than a couple new games, because literally all my kids want to do on Sunday nights is play Skull Kings aff. link, a game I mentioned in my gift guide last year. It easily ranks as one of our fave games in the history of ever.
The other game we stumbled on and have played for hours over the last week or so is Superfight. It has an Apples to Apples/Snake Oil vibe but we all agree it is 1,000 times more fun. I bought the base game and then a few expansion packs (the green and yellow) aff. links. I’ve actually never heard my kids laugh as loud as they have while playing this game. It’s hilarious – you basically create character card combos that go head to head with another opponents’ character cards and you debate about who would win in a fight or challenge and then everyone votes on who would win. I find myself giggling about some of the combos during the day when I’m all by myself. (I need to get out more.) The cards in the black deck are very family friendly (I only had to pull one card out of the base deck that I wasn’t crazy about – but I haven’t been all the way through the zillion cards yet), and the green deck is particularly geared to kids.
Also, I figured since so many of you have asked how we organize our games, I’d show you my super secret method. Here you go. Take lots of notes. It’s a pretty intricate system. 😉#sendhelp
2. Intermittent Fasting Thoughts: Anyone out there do intermittent fasting? I’ve read a lot about it and know the whys and wherefores, and some of the benefits are appealing to me. But when I tried it, I only lasted about four days (that’s kind of my track record with diet-y type things, haha, I lasted 4 1/2 days with the Whole30 years ago and consider that 4 1/2 days I’ll never get back). I was SO tired when I started intermittent fasting. Like bone-weary tired and about the worst grumpety grump mom in the universe and I just couldn’t hack it. Anyway, I’m interested to know if any of you are intermittent fasters out there! Talk to me. 🙂
3. Screen Time Thoughts: Not only is it a challenging journey defining boundaries around screen time for kids, but, HELLO, adults (me!) struggle, too. I’m always looking for different resources to help me personally and my family as a whole navigate the murky waters of screen time/technology, and I LOVE the tips and guides over at Better Screen Time (on Instagram here). I’m using their quick guide to setting up a Family Technology Plan (not a cell phone contract!) for our family, and the self-evaluation guide for teens and phones that they have is really, really awesome.
My goal lately has been to take the “fear” aspect out of technology and screens with my kids – as in, me not parenting with fear surrounding those decisions, and instead create opportunities for us to talk about it openly as a family and create goals/plans together. Currently, my 14-, 13-, and 11-year olds all have school-issued laptops (with a pretty poor internet filter and also the realization that kids these days are much smarter than me and can get around anything), my 13-year old has an iPod touch he bought with his own money late last year with restricted access to the internet and apps, and my 14-year old has a very ancient slide phone. So…yeah, we are definitely not on the “current” end of the technology/screen time spectrum, haha, but what we do is working for us right now (including our nightly docking system and other rules), and if I’ve learned anything in this age of parenting, it is: what I do with my kids and my family is probably going to look different from other families, and any time spent comparing or stressing about that is time wasted.
Don’t worry, I still compare and stress about it (#truth), but I’m getting a lot better. Having said that, I’ve also learned a tremendous amount from other intentional parents out there (and from resources like Better Screen Time). What resources have you found to be helpful? Any tips to share on screen time/technology with kiddos?
4. IGTV Thoughts: Have you guys seen the videos I’ve posted to IGTV? Kind of a “Bake with Mel” series with a little bit of randomness thrown in there. Don’t have Instagram? No worries, I post them all here, too. Anyway, I have some FUN, fun videos coming soon. Later today or tomorrow I’m posting a Bake with Mel: Cream Puff vid in which I’m interrupted by a bunch of high school kids who came home unexpectedly after the high school had an emergency evacuation (everyone was ok). Spoiler alert: they were thrilled to eat cream puffs instead of sitting through history class. And, as you are reading this, I’m pretty sure, Sara from OBB is sitting with me in my kitchen filming another IGTV video that’ll be coming at you soon. This one is…well..special. Haha. We’re exploring all the trendy flavor combinations out there that people claim are lifechanging, and we are making each other try a few (I hope we don’t vomit). If you have a recipe that is tricky, scary, or a little sketchy that you want me to make on a future video to see if it’s worth it, let me know! I’m open to ideas.
5. Teenage Driver Thoughts: We’ve officially entered this world with a permitted teenage driver. It seems a little surreal (so did that rear end accident the 2nd day of driving, yikes). But I keep reminding myself he’s gotta learn how to drive through roundabouts somehow, somewhere so it might as well be with his high strung mom. In all seriousness, I’ve surprised myself (and I think everyone that knows me) with how patient I’ve been (even if I am frantically slamming on a brake that doesn’t exist on my side of the car), and he’s doing a great job, and I’m really excited when he can finally drive himself places, and I’m sorry he has to learn to drive in a behemoth suburban, and I only have four more kids to go through this process, and someone please hold me. The end.
6. Recap Thoughts: I loved our discussion in January about positive parenting. Man, you guys inspire me so much. I can’t say that I’ve been 100% perfect in not letting anything but positivity cross my lips since then…but I have been so, so much better than in months and years past, and I think it’s making a huge difference in our home and family. I’m still determined to keep it up (even after those days I fail miserably). My friend, Nicole, shared this article in the comment thread of that Friday Thoughts post, and I gleaned so, so many great tips from it (the author has a book on the same lines here– aff. link). Her 10 tips at the end of the article are golden. Also, I just saw that Ralphie over at @simplyonpurpose (who so many of you love for parenting tips) is doing a free email course on “staying safe” or basically my alternate title: “how to stop yelling as a parent because it doesn’t work and never will.” It sounds pretty amazing.
Also, you totally blew me away with your response to the new cinnamon roll recipe I posted. I love your enthusiasm for cinnamon rolls so much, it almost makes me weepy.
Last recap, I’m loving my new pantry about a thousand percent more than I thought I would. Honestly, it’s my favorite place. In the whole world. Not kidding. (Also, clearly not a world traveler.) My sister, Em, and friend, Deb, enlisted the help of our talented friend, Bobbi, and made me the most perfect sign for the pantry. Truer words hath never been written.
Love all of your guts! Thanks for being here. And please leave me all YOUR thoughts below. It’s my favorite part.

JEW-COMMUNIST PLAN TO OVERTHROW WHITE CHRISTIAN AMERICA’S HERITAGE
Or the Satanic Plan to Destroy White Christian America. Why America is losing the war? The passing of the Civil Rights Bill: Now that the Civil Rights Bill has been passed, many people are asking the Question: How may I fight for segregation and States' Rights? In this article, we will tell you what the commandments of God are regarding this evil satanic plot to destroy white Christian America. We will prove to you beyond any shadow of a doubt that your duty to God and country is to fight to maintain segregation, States' Rights and the Constitution. Before we give you the plan, let’s look at the history of this battle through the years. Many people mistakenly believe that this fight for States' Rights, segregation and the Constitution began with the 1954 Supreme Court decision. This is not true. The New York and International Jewish Bankers of the world attempted to destroy the United States of America by dividing it in two, giving one half to Canada and one half to Mexico, which Money Systems they both controlled. Yes, the International Jewish-Communist first attempt to take over the United States took place way back in the 1860s. Does this amaze you? It should not! Karl Marx wrote the Communist Manifesto in 1848. By 1860 the Jews were ready to attempt the communizing of the world. In this, they totally failed. Why? Let’s look and see. Let’s go back to the year 1863 to the greatest battle the Confederacy ever fought, it was a total victory for the South. That battle was the battle of Chancellorsville. The Chancellorsville battlefield is located along the Orange Turnpike, approximately ten miles west of Fredericksburg. At the end of April 1861, General Hooker of the Union Army began to threaten Fredericksburg and cross the upper Rappahannock to come behind Lee. A Confederate force of two divisions under Anderson re-enforced by Jackson's command, entrenched along a three-mile front and arrested the progress of Hooker's flanking movement on May 1st, 1863. Meeting with such unexpected resistance, Hooker abandoned the initiative and fell back to entrench along a five-mile front in the vicinity of Chancellorsville. Lee advanced cautiously on the afternoon of May 1st to take a position along the old Furnace Road. At Fredericksburg Lee had left approximately ten thousand men under General Jubal Early to guard the heights against Sedgwick's Federal force of about 25,000 men. Among the pines at the Junction of the Orange Plank and Furnace Roads is located the site of the Last Bivouac of Lee and Jackson. Here on the night of May 1st, 1863, the generals planned the battle of Chancellorsville, one of the most daringly conceived engagements of the war. Here they parted company for the last time. The next morning Jackson moved out on the bold maneuver that divided the Confederate Army. The leading regiments of Jackson's command reached the halfway point at about 12:30 p.m. From there they pushed northward to the Plank Road where Jackson met Fitzhugh Lee, the cavalryman. The two generals rode eastward on a reconnaissance along the Plank Road to a Hilltop that revealed the completely exposed nature of the Federal right. Returning, Jackson quickly gave the order to continue the advance to the Orange Turnpike and thence eastward toward Chancellorsville. At approximately two miles from the Union Forces on May 2nd, 1863, Jackson's veterans WITHOUT SHOES, WITH BLOODY FEET AND NO FOOD stretched in massed columns a mile on either side of the turnpike struck Howard's Federal corps about 6 p.m. It was the crushing irresistible attack of these dedicated men, hurled back Hooker's right two miles toward Chancellorsville. The withdrawal of Sickel's Federal corps early that morning permitted the Confederates to seize the best positions and establish a heavy concentration of artillery which enfiladed part of the Federal line and raked the strongly entrenched Federal position at Fairview. Lee rode to Hazel Grove at 10 a.m. to supervise the assault on Fairview. All positions were finally carried by storm at about 10 a.m. Chancellorsville, a smoking ruin, and then fell into Confederate hands. It must be remembered that this Confederate force was outnumbered by over two to one. The Union forces were fully equipped, well led and 130,000 strong, whereas the Southern forces were ill-fed, very poorly equipped and only 60,000 in number. What made the difference? These men were able to rout a numerically superior Army due to the fact that they believed in their cause, States' Rights and the Liberty of men. Did these men die in vain? That's up to you. Look the pictures over very carefully. These men died for you! If they had not fought, the International Jew Communists would have removed all your Rights and this Nation and its entire people would have been in slavery long ago. They fought for you and gave you 100 years of additional freedom. That's right, you would have lost your States' Rights and your Constitution over 100 years ago, had they not been Christian men, brave enough to stand up and fight. God commands that his people obey his laws. One of the most important laws is the law of segregation. You MUST maintain Segregation if you ever intend to see the Kingdom of God. Yes, salvation depends on it. But you say how can we preserve Segregation when the Civil Rights Bill has passed. The best weapon is to practice segregation yourself. Many people believe they can picket an area that is about to be integrated and stop it with this method. This never works, because the Jewish businessmen of the particular community that you are trying to keep segregated gather together, form a bi-racial committee and when all the shouting is through you will have lost, for they will integrate the businesses anyway. Why take the chance of hurting innocent people by attempting to halt integration this way. Your best weapon is to follow this simple program. Will you obey men or God? The great man of God, Joshua, answered in this way: "But as for me and my house we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15. And as the two apostles Peter and John answered the Jews when they told them they must obey, and speak these things no longer, they said: "Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than to God, judge yourselves. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard." Acts 4:19-20. I am determined in my case that these brave men of the 1860s shall not have died in vain. And what's more important, I will preserve segregation at all costs. For my duty and yours is to obey God and not men. The Constitution of the United States is a contract that WE THE PEOPLE made with one another, which sets up the machinery of government to carry out this contract, mainly for the purpose of PROTECTING INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS as well as STATES' RIGHTS against the power of government. No public official has a right to override the provisions of that contract. To quote Thomas James Norton's Constitution of the United States, its Application, etc., "A law of Congress to be one of the supreme laws must be made in pursuance thereof and not in conflict with the Constitution. When not made in pursuance thereof, it is, of course, unconstitutional and of no effect." And of course the same would similarly apply to a wrongful decision rendered by the Supreme Court, or an unlawful Treaty. All States are warned to "STAND YOUR GROUND" and fight for STATES' RIGHTS. The Jew-Communist plan for the complete overthrow of our White Christian heritage must be stopped at all cost.

The entrepreneurial mindset – transcript from my tedx bundaberg communicate
So, the phrase entrepreneur, permit’s begin there. Has everybody ever seemed this up in the dictionary? I’d never heard the word entrepreneur whilst i used to be at faculty. By no means did every person Digital Marketing Companies Stafford say “you! The lady that talks in magnificence and receives kicked out a whole lot”
“you! The lady that gets suspended”
“you! The girl this is smart – but doesn’t appear to be engaged in a whole lot of this content”. That became me. Nobody ever said “you realize what? Maybe you ought to think about being an entrepreneur.”
and this is pretty surprising to me because in case you haven’t already picked it up, i’m from wellington, new zealand and that i went to a definitely modern faculty – it became called wellington high college which is now over 100 and thirty years antique. We referred to as instructors by their first names, it became co-ed; boys and women, we didn’t wear a uniform. In the senior years it was go in case you need and don’t pass in case you don’t want – which didn’t in shape every body. We may want to study subjects like journalism and horticulture which turned into first-rate, but nevertheless, the handiest pathway they ever supplied to us in 1994, which become the 12 months i finished high school, become that you cross right through to 12 months 12, which you then move and get a tertiary education and you then get a process. That’s all i ever knew. Both my parent didn’t run companies, one changed into a teacher at my college, so you can imagine how mortified he became at my behaviour at times. Nobody ever supplied this idea of being an entrepreneur. When i have heard the phrase entrepreneur over the years, occasionally it’s were given bad connotations, hasn’t it? Take a look at these words on the slide at the back of me. I suggest who desires to be a wealthy person? A rich person? A dealer? What approximately a wealthy person, or a massive shot, or a large wig? Or even a whizz-kid. So using the phrase “entrepreneur” certainly dates again to the 1800s and it’s a french phrase. And over the years it has grown in popularity. I feel like in latest years if anything, the phrase entrepreneur has taken on a lifestyles of its own and is perhaps even over used – wouldn’t you agree? These days, i’m pretty certain while you’re growing up in new zealand, australia or someplace else within the international that pretty probable, and that i genuinely desire this is real, you're advised approximately the possibility to move on a path of constructing your personal business – if that’s what you want to do. And i implore all of you too, that even when you have taken the traditional direction of studying and going and getting a activity. That at any time you could choose to do a “side hustle” or even mission out and start a new commercial enterprise. Did you already know that the colonel from kentucky, that made the well-known kentucky fried chook or kfc, didn’t begin his commercial enterprise till he was in his 70s?! So in case you want to be an entrepreneur or you simply need to have an entrepreneurial attitude that’s a bit more like an entrepreneurial individual – what does that imply? To me it way numerous different things. It approach to assume in a different way and all those instances i used to be at excessive school getting into hassle, struggling with the academic paintings, it’s due to the fact i notion in a different way, and i just didn’t in shape the mould. So in case you’re taking into consideration a person right now that seems like that, whether it’s your very own baby or a nephew or a niece or someone you’ve taught, perhaps, just perhaps, they’re an entrepreneur too. To inform you how i got here to workout i used to be an entrepreneur (and how it wasn’t such a terrible element and has in fact brought me a lot of awesome opportunities on this life) permit me inform you a piece about my journey. As i said, i started lifestyles in wellington new zealand wherein i was born and bred until the age of 21. I created my first commercial enterprise when i used to be 17 years antique after i decided to begin a newspaper whilst at school. As i said, some of the subjects at faculty weren’t for me – i’d never contact computer systems till i needed to do a journalism direction and had to discover ways to type out my story. Then my dad said “you need to begin a newspaper and also you have to do it on game,” and i thought “that sounds high-quality to me because i really like sport!”

In fact at that point i used to be inside the new zealand crew for water polo for my age group and i skilled loads. I also did a whole lot of swimming and a whole lot of surf life-saving and i gained a variety of medals. I was a water toddler i bet you can say. And the issue that were given me genuinely inquisitive about beginning the newspaper – all of us need to be encouraged by means of some thing – and for me, at age of 17, it became money. I wanted money to pay for my game, which became unfunded. My parents didn’t have the money to keep installing to pay for the uniforms or the journeys and all of the costs associated with recreation. So, i started that newspaper. And in those days, for the ones of us old sufficient to remember, it was bromide, no longer virtual at all. And i had quite a few pleasure losing off in my little crimson mini to every excessive school in wellington, a package of newspapers. And because it become made by means of youngsters, for kids, they devoured it! Then i get this enterprise name from an american man who stated ‘you’ve stolen my concept!’ he was splendid annoyed at me so i stated “how ought to i have stolen your idea? I’ve in no way met you, i don’t know who you're or what your idea even is!”
Properly it seems that this guy have been planning to begin a secondary school sports newspaper plenty like mine for approximately two years. And here became me, coming alongside in any respect of 17 years antique and that i just began this issue, and i idea things like $2 hundred complete web page ads changed into excellent for putting in the bank to pay for my sport. So he demanded a meeting with me and right here i'm, my first boardroom meeting as a 17 years old, with my dad there for assist, reducing my first business deal. And also you’re probably thinking what that frypan reference is up on the display screen? I’ll inform you currently. Years later, a guy in silicon valley said to me, “ you recognize businesses are a lot like pancakes – you stuff the primary one up,” and that i stated, “ oh my god, that’s so actual for me!” due to the fact that newspaper was the primary commercial enterprise and without know it i reduce that deal and it ended up being a clearly horrific enterprise deal when i appearance back. It became a salary, a small lump sum and that i had to continue to paintings for him for the rest of the 12 months. Which for me, become excellent on the time, because i simply wanted to educate and get the cash to go and play against australia later that yr. Properly i did what i used to be asked, and i learnt my first very good commercial enterprise lesson. Which is, if making a decision to enter commercial enterprise with a person, or some thing it's far you decide to do as an entrepreneur, make certain it aligns together with your values. On this experience, his values and my values did not align. And it didn’t exercise session. On the quit of the yr we parted ways and that turned into the end of my first enterprise. For the next seven years, from age 21 to twenty-eight i travelled the world and that i supplemented my travels with journey writing, so i guess you may say i was a journey blogger earlier than it became even a thing. In order that’s my second tip on becoming an entrepreneur or developing an entrepreneurial mind-set, you want to create your very own opportunities. People aren’t necessarily going to mention “hello, you ought to try this” now and again you’ve just got to think “i want to do that. How am i able to make it appear?” then make it manifest! Fast forwarding in my story, i fell pregnant at the tablet, in london, and that i had to work out what to do subsequent. With the aid of this degree, i used to be the editor of a newspaper at age 26. So, i was doing pretty well with the career aspect. However to fall pregnant at the tablet unexpectedly in london, truely made me re-suppose existence and what i was going to subsequent. We in the end had the child, and for some time there we caught it out in london seeking to make matters work, but when it have become too tough we determined to move back to in which our family lived, which became australia. So then, some years pass, i locate some work in australia and then i have a 2nd infant. So now i have a 3 yr old and a new child at domestic and i assume, “how am i going to earn cash now?!”
so i start some other commercial enterprise! Operating from domestic round my youngsters had been the humble beginnings of my 1/3 business, the creative collective. And actually, i didn’t mention that in among my “pancake enterprise” (the newspaper) and my profession in london i additionally started out a web commercial enterprise selling t shirts known as “tikanga teeshirts”. Tikanga means “subculture “and tikanga o te wa – those are maori words i’m the use of – means fashion. I created that enterprise due to the fact i used to be truly proud of our indigenous culture and language in new zealand. Although i am not maori, i used to be delivered up with it. And i desired to share with people that i used to be a proud new zealander and here changed into our subculture. So the teeshirt business i started in 2002 with no capital. I put up a website up after coaching myself html, and four years later, sold it for 5 figures. So that changed into an excellent final results, doing the entire cycle of the enterprise, really higher than the first pancake. However the 0. 33 commercial enterprise, the innovative collective, that’s wherein it all truely began. I got a emblem designed via a friend, i were given that revealed in an a3 layout and laminated, positioned it up inside the have a look at and increase we’re in commercial enterprise! I then threw up a website (now we’re absolutely in commercial enterprise), i made a enterprise card (whats up everybody, i’ve got a business!)
In the ones days it wasn’t very common for mums to work from home – or it didn’t appear to be it become. I didn’t have many friends to name on. However it’s turn out to be increasingly more popular now and i think that that is high-quality, that dad and mom who select to stay at domestic and lift children can still earn an income and do some thing they love. Now today, the innovative collective has 12 personnel throughout offices at the sunshine coast and newcastle and approximately forty contractors. I personal a business building that we perform out of at the sunshine coast and we've customers all over australia and even a few global ones. It has a spinoff company called the schooling collective, in which we teach human beings digital skills. And importantly, we’ve had loads of amusing with it all. Now there’s a high-quality metaphor obtainable approximately what it takes to be an entrepreneur that i’d love to share with you. An entrepreneur says to a mentor, “be my mentor, show me what it takes to be an entrepreneur.”
The mentor says, “okay come meet me down on the water early when it’s truly honestly dark and cold out”. The entrepreneur meets the mentor and on arrival the mentor says “walk with me” and fully dressed heads straight into the water. The entrepreneur says to the mentor “wait! I need to get undressed. I’ll get moist…”
the mentor says “no you don’t just stroll for your clothes”. So they enter the water, which is clearly in reality bloodless, and are up to their knees in their garments. The entrepreneur says “oh man this is uncomfortable! What are we doing? This is terrible!”
the mentor smiles and lightly says “that’s proper, simply hold strolling”. So they hold on foot deeper and deeper into the water, and that i should virtually complicated in this tale, however the factor is, they walk till they’re as much as their necks, and the entrepreneur at this factor is certainly suffering to hold his head above water due to the fact his garments are wet, he’s freezing bloodless, and the whole thing is weighing him down.
“i hate this!” he again complains to the mentor.
“i want to get out! I will’t cope! I’m going to drown!” he yells desperately to the mentor. And when he gets to date, the mentor says, “my friend, that is what it takes to be a an entrepreneur. You’ve got to be prepared to get from your consolation zone. You’re going to swim into un-chartered waters. You’re going to be uncomfortable, and also you’ll every so often experience like you’re sinking. At instances you can even think you’re drowning, but you’ve just were given to preserve going. You’ve got to try and swim even if things are weighing you down.”
in order that’s every other tip i have for all the budding entrepreneurs obtainable. You’ve were given to be prepared to get from your consolation quarter and make it work! My first step to get out of my consolation area, turned into getting into a enterprise award. I were in business simply six months with the innovative collective, and i idea “good day, i need to marketplace my commercial enterprise, or supply some thing a pass right here to get the word available about my business.”
so i throw my hat into the small commercial enterprise champions awards, and that i couldn’t consider it. I gained! I received the younger entrepreneur of the 12 months award in queensland in 2007. Out of this revel in i realised that coming into business awards labored quite properly and that i'd want to do extra of that because the telephones started out ringing, and enterprise began coming in. I also met some fantastic people at that event. Off the back of winning that award, i were given presented to go on tv, on a country wide display approximately extraordinary corporations. On it they depicted me because the mum who worked from home juggling my two young ones that's precisely what i was doing at the time. That equal piece came out on channel nine, after which featured at the vodafone internet site and on qantas’s inflight television and things in reality took off. And this become all from going outdoor my consolation region and coming into a commercial enterprise award. The alternative things i’ve found out along my years of being an entrepreneur, is which you want to be open to new studies, places and people. That's exactly why i say, sure to driving three hours to speak at a bundaberg tedx occasion. I wanted to come back up to fulfill new people and have a brand new revel in in a brand new region. Through my entrepreneurial/commercial enterprise journey, i’ve simply been capable of do this. For instance this is me in ny, getting into the international women in enterprise awards. And in that yr, my kids had been elderly 2 and 5, the foreign exchange rate become horrible and that i felt so responsible leaving them to attend these awards. I didn’t win that award, but it was nonetheless so really worth going and being open to these new reviews. Due to attending that event, that night, i went night clubbing, as you do with the ceo of the whole awards. And he provided me an opportunity to sell these awards in australia and new zealand, which i then did for the subsequent 10 years. And that has became having connections with some of the excellent enterprise people in australian and new zealand, which has been an outstanding ride as properly. I assume you want to put your self available, and remember you have got as an awful lot proper to be there as everyone else. Through getting into some other enterprise award software, the telstra enterprise womens awards and winning business proprietor of the 12 months in queensland, extra possibilities unfolded for me. I were given invited to go to silicon valley, which if you don’t know, is the tech capital of the arena. But anyway, it become a lifestyles-changing revel in to go to the offices of the likes of fb, to satisfy the founding father of eventbrite, visit the linkedin offices and sure, just as they are saying, they all have brilliant workplaces. The linkedin workplaces have a band room, so in case you want to head and jam for an hour for your lunch destroy, you may. And yes, facebook has free meals simply as they say, they all do. Three courses, day or night time, any time. Additionally they have unfastened ice cream, free barbers, it’s a international unto itself. So i were given so far and i was wondering what's this all about? What does all of it suggest? What do i do with all these connections and reviews i’m having? After which i remembered a teacher back at wellington high school pronouncing to me, “what do you want to be remembered for? He also stated that in case you are an remarkable mathematician or inventor you can spend your whole lifestyles seeking to training session one math equation, or to create one invention, and you may or might not be successful. But he stated to me, in case you’re to write one poem, one music, paint one artwork piece – however desirable or bad – it will be remembered, as it lives on. He become speakme about legacy of course. And that i determined i in reality liked that concept. I realised i’d always had in me a burning preference to write down a ebook. So i’ve virtually written a couple. I wrote one about my grandfathers existence, which i launched in 2006, only a few months earlier than my grandmother handed away so it changed into outstanding to try this. And that i launched another e-book in 2014 after i gained it female of the year, at the countrywide iaward due to the fact i felt pressured to make a contribution and provide back to what i knew which became in which the it industry was going and what sort of this changed into changing things and how we had a responsibility to research greater approximately technology in order to enhance our kids in a technology driven international. This phase noticed me speak to and have an effect on ministers, do lots of media observation and encourage humans to educate youngsters coding. Which now of route today is widespread in faculties. And these are all things which befell in my entrepreneurial journey. The very last tip i desired to give you nowadays, is tapping into whatever you’re captivated with, what you love to do. So, in case you do rise up each morning and go to paintings and think “i hate this, i hate those human beings, i hate this region” or “i don’t sense any experience of my soul being ignited, i don’t experience joy or whatever….” then maybe it’s time to alternate. And whether that requires quitting your job to move into something you’re greater obsessed with, or initially reducing your hours, or going returned and reading or completely converting careers, or starting a side-hustle or a totally fledged business – be courageous! If you have a burning preference or something you’re passionate about doing, i say do it! In precis, i suppose the entrepreneurial mind-set is a way of wondering. It’s specially approximately the manner you approach demanding situations and mistakes. Now i was very conscious about setting together my talk, and hoping it doesn’t come upon as pronouncing, “observe me i’ve had this exceptional lifestyles and all of these simply cool things befell,” but i need to make certain , there’s been lots of hard stuff, the treading cold deep water full dressed metaphor stuff. I’ve had the ato name me up on a friday and want $forty,000 off me on monday, due to the fact i had a crappy accountant who gave me the wrong recommendation. I’ve had team of workers and pals (no longer my friends), stealing my highbrow property and now not seeing an difficulty with it and starting up very comparable businesses, with similar names and things like that. We have consistent breaches of our trademark definitely and we’ve had to move and attraction one absolutely currently. There’s been sincerely tough life stuff. I separated from my accomplice of 18 years, and the daddy of my kids and thru this i nonetheless had to stand up and visit work. It’s tough stuff. Demanding situations with raising teens, fitness problems, money issues – therehave been weeks wherein i didn’t even recognise how i used to be going to do the payroll. You realize, among all this joyous life, there’s nevertheless those difficult matters you have to arise and cope with. But, if you maintain finding the right human Digital Marketing Company Stafford beings to be around, and if you could just hang in there and that cold water with the ones clothes on, you could definitely experience it too.

Announcing the QUIPOCALYPSE: the Quiplash 2 Tournament of the End Times
Update: The Results and archived broadcast!
Here’s the final results! And below is the YouTube export of the stream (Twitch version here). Thanks for playing everyone!!
youtube
On Saturday night, March 28, 2020, if the world hasn’t ended yet, we’ll be hosting a live Quiplash 2 tournament at https://www.twitch.tv/berniehou starting at 9pm ET, and you’re invited to either compete with some of the best Quiplash players around, or just watch and vote for your favorite jokes!
ALL the prompts* in the tournament will be original content written by me, your host, Bernie! WOW 👀
The Format
This will be a single-elimination, 3-round tournament of at most 32 total players, where all the games will be 8-player games, with the top 4 finishers of each game advancing to the next round, until there are 8 players left, who will compete in the Championship game (i.e. the third round). There’ll be 4 games in the 1st round, 2 games in the 2nd round, and then the 8-player Championship game. The winner of the Championship Game is our overall winner.
What is Quiplash 2?
Oh man it’s so great. It’s a party game where you write funny answers to funny prompts, and then the answers are put up 2 at a time, and everyone votes on which one they like better. Whoever gets the most overall votes wins. That’s really it! Here’s the official trailer I found of Quiplash 1 (the gist is the same):

How to Enter to Play in the Tournament
Space is limited, so there’s no guarantee we can fit you in, but if you love playing Quiplash, sign up and maybe you’ll get in or at the least be a standby!
Tell me that you’d like to commit to play in the tournament.
Provide proof that you’ve played Quiplash before, e.g. a link to a past stream or saved video you were on. If you can’t do this but think you can convince me anyway, give it a shot. Sorry but we don’t want to be explaining how the game works to players during the event.
Give me the best way to contact you, whether it’s by whisper on Twitch, Discord DM, email, whatever.
How to Just Watch Instead
The Quipocalypse will be just as much fun to watch as it’ll be to play in! That’s because every audience member gets to vote on every head-to-head matchup of player jokes, which directly determines who wins. They also get to write jokes of their own to special audience answers, which don’t count in the game, but show up on the screen for the everyone else in the audience.
All you’ll do there is type in a short room code which you’ll be given when each game is about to start, and then you’ll be able to easily vote on player answers and/or type in answers to the audience prompts.
Some Extra Details and Rules
The tournament, its prompts, and player answers are rated R.
I won’t be playing as an official contestant, as I’ll have written all the prompts. But it’s possible that I might join a game as a Filler if needed.
It’s gonna be so fun you guys!
But only if you’re there. So sign up to play today, and see you there!
