When you can't find the kind of fic you want, so you decide to write it yourself.
But you don't have the skill or the energy... :'(

hi sam!! 1, 2, 6, 8, 12, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 28, 30, 42, 43, 44, 45, 47, 50, 51, 55, 57, 66 (lmhs), 71, 72, 76, 78, 79 😊 i just love picking another writer's brain hehe
KSJDBVJKDFBV MARIAM IM CRYING HELP 😂 *cracks knuckles* okay let's gooooo 💜 (there's gonna be a read more somewhere)
questions from here!
1. Do you daydream a lot before you write, or go for it as soon as the ideas strike?
Truly depends on the length of the wip! For short stuff that I'm confident will be under 10k, I just go in swinging. For longer stuff, I'm daydreaming constantly, even during the writing process. When I had a desk job, I would spend Work Time thinking and then write stuff out in my notes app, but now that I operate a moving vehicle for 7+ hours a day, I just spend the majority of that time Daydreaming, Thinking, and Planning for LMHS.
2. Where do you get your fic ideas?
It's about a 60/40 split between original thoughts (as much as anyone can claim to truly have original creative thoughts that are 100% not inspired by anything else) and ideas that are based on or inspired by the premises of other fics or by fanart (sometimes not even from the same fandom).
6. What’s the last line you wrote?
From LMHS, last line of chapter 3: "Sun shining on their backs, sweet snacks in their stomachs, and laughter in the air, the three of them take off together, venturing once again deeper into Changyin’s busy streets."
8. Post an out-of-context spoiler from a wip.
Not written out yet so I can't post a snippet, but in LMHS, water is so important to Megumi's character, way beyond just bending.
12. Do you outline your fics?  If yes, how detailed are your outlines?  How far do you stray from them?
Sometimes! I did outline LMHS, though that was mostly an attempt on my part at keeping track of all the thoughts @hinamie and I were throwing at each other. It's not very detailed at all, just a bullet point list of things like "they travel to [location] - remember that [this character] is with them" or stuff like that. It's a guide for the like... movement™ of the fic, but less so the nitty gritty details, which I kind of enjoy discovering as I go (be it while I'm writing or while Hina and I are talking). But the last long fic I wrote (250k) did not have an outline. I just followed my heart and the vision I had of the end of the fic <3 The back half of that fic did have a canon timeline to follow, though, which made it easier.
14. What is your favorite location and position to write in?
SJKDBJKSDB I do about 95% of my writing in a big leather wingback armchair in my living room, usually with one leg hooked over an arm of the chair. The other 5% is bleary-eyed, 2am in bed, notes app, half-finished sentences with just the worst spelling you've ever seen.
15. What’s your favorite time to write?
It used to be between 1am and 3am, back when I was unemployed/working a job I didn't have to properly sleep for. Now, the only time I seem to be able to write is from about 8:30pm to 11pm. It takes me forever to unwind after coming home, so I can really only get myself to focus way at the end of the day. 100% if I went back to a desk job or stumbled into a pile of money that could let me stop working, I'd be right back to typing away well after midnight.
17. Do you have a writing routine?
Sit down > open word doc > reread last paragraph > dissociate > walk away > come back three hours later and write SKJDVBDKJBVJKDFBV
18. Do you enjoy research?  Which fic of yours required the most research?
I don't necessarily enjoy it, mostly because when I'm researching, I tend to get pulled down a rabbit hole of stuff I don't need to know and will never use. However, I do find that I end up doing impromptu "shotgun" research a lot while writing. Literally while writing the first chapter of LMHS, I had to pull up some research on trees just to make absolutely sure I was describing something correctly. It's 100% an inconsequential detail, but at least I know I wasn't pulling it completely out of thin air KSJVDBDKJVB I don't think I could honestly say which fic required the most research. If we include the amount of time I spent on the respective fandom wikis for character/canon details, then Swallow the Stars for sure. But if it's only for Other Stuff™, then I think they're all about equal.
19. Do you enjoy creating OCs or do you prefer to stick solely to canon characters?
I love making OCs in general, but not really for fanfic. I'll make an OC for an inconsequential side character no problem (did this a couple times in Swallow the Stars), but, for the most part, I prefer to stick to canon characters. I've never written a fic from the POV of an OC, and I doubt I ever will. I would much rather explore the dynamics between canon characters than insert a new main character into a story that already has one.
22. Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process?  How do you come up with titles?
Depends! I've done all three before SKJDVBDKJVBF Sometimes, a title comes to me right away, and I can sort of circle around it while I'm writing (this is more common for me with short fics). Sometimes, I get a few thousands words in, and have played with the themes long enough to have it just sort of come to me. Other times, I'm fully edited and just staring at the words begging a title to appear so I can post KSJDVBDKJFVBDFV LMHS had a title before I even started writing, because I wanted to have a title when I posted the fic announcement. As far as how I come up with them, I've pulled directly from words in the fic, I've gone on random quote generators and pulled from those, I've sat down and literally just strung words together based on a theme or a single specific word I wanted (LMHS, for instance, came from a desire to use the word "haunt"). It just kinda depends and is different for every fic!
23. Is writing the beginning, middle, or end of the story easiest? Hardest?
The beginning is easiest because it's fun character introductions and scene setting, not a lot of plot yet. The middle is by far the hardest because that's where the plot is beefiest and where a lot of the transition spaces are, and at the same time you're starting to gather up the threads you want to tie off at the end.
24. How do you choose whose POV to write in?
I choose based on whose thoughts I'm imagining most when I'm first thinking of the story! When I'm new to writing for a fandom, I will sometimes have to start a fic 2 or 3 times to find the voice that comes easiest to me, though. I have a tendency to lean towards the quieter characters, but that's not always true! For example, Andrew Minyard's POV is easier for me to write in, but I have more fun writing Neil, so I tend to gravitate towards Neil for AFTG fics.
25. What’s your favorite part of the writing process (worldbuilding, brainstorming/outlining, writing, editing, etc)?
World building my beloved..... I love coming up with Reasons for things that I want to happen, tying things into the setting and the history and making sure it works for the characters as well. The moment when everything connects is so magical.
26. What’s your least favorite part of the writing process?
Writing KJDBKJDFBVJKDBFV Words are just.... so hard 😭
28. What area of writing do you want to improve in?
Detailing! Descriptions! I am constantly fighting with myself over how much detail I actually need to include in my descriptions, because on some level, I want to describe it as much as I possibly can so that it can be envisioned easier, but on the flip side I know for a fact that no matter how much I describe something, no one will ever see it exactly the same way I do. And so then I pull back too far, I think, and keep my descriptions bare minimum, which I think is just as unhelpful. I need to work on finding a balance. Maybe metaphor can be my friend here.....
30. How much do you edit your fics?  Do you edit as you write or wait until you finish the first draft?
I usually go through for edits a minimum of two times and a maximum of 4 times. I always do an initial read-through for details that I missed or clarifications I need to make or continuity problems, stuff like that. Then I'll go through for grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, etc. If I end up rewriting a lot during that second edit, I'll go back through yet again just to double-check everything. And, more often than not, I do a last read-through right before I post. Though, inevitably, there's always something that I don't catch until it's already posted KJSBDVKDJBV
42. What’s your favorite title that you’ve come up with?
I'm really quite keen on Like the Moon Haunts the Sun !! It's longer than what I usually go for with titles, but it's sooooo thematically fitting and just really really pretty imo. But, This Is What Hollows holds a special place in my heart because it's a bit different and yet perfectly fitting for that fic. Plus, it was titled loooong before I came up with a way to include it in the actual writing of the fic, and I felt like an absolute genius when I managed to do that organically.
43. Is there a trope or idea that you’d really like to write but haven’t yet?
I have a world mostly built for a fantasy setting with dragon gods and stuff that I've planned out all the lore for and yet cannot for the life of me actually think up a plot that would be interesting to write SKJVBDJKVB I have characters, I have setting, I have themes, but a plot? Evading me. And it's been haunting me for like 7 years.
44. What is your favorite genre to write?
Urban fantasy 100%!! I love writing magic systems without having to do historical research SKJBDVKJDVB Also just the idea of magic in a place that we live in is so special to me like... there is magic everywhere in the world, but sometimes that magic really does come from a spell book like Yes Please.
45. What genre/trope do you tend to write the most?
Found family trope my beloved,,,,,,,, don't look too closely at it; it doesn't say anything about me as a person I Promise.
47. Is there a trope that you’ve written before but are now sick of?
Not a trope, but when I was younger and Working Through Some Shit, I included a, I guess, circumstance™ that I will not actually say (bc it's like. triggering) in just about every fic I wrote, but I'm past the point now (thank god) of needing to vent through it, so I truly don't think I'll ever include it in anything ever again.
50. How would you describe your writing style?
HHHHHHH I have no idea. I think I am incapable of looking at my writing objectively enough to describe it.
51. Does what you like to write differ from what you like to read?
Very much so! I love reading prose that is rich in metaphor and simile, but for the life of me I can't write like that. I don't have the gift of constantly being able to turn a phrase so beautifully, but god is it gorgeous to read.
55. Have you noticed any patterns in your fics?  Words/expressions that appear a lot, themes, common settings, etc?
I don't even want to think about the words and phrases I overuse because I'm sure there's plenty JSKDBVKJDFVB I do have a recurring theme of like... healing, though. This deep inner struggle of the characters to get to a better place is just... so important to me. I want them to heal, but more than that I want them to want to heal.
57. How conscious are you about including symbolism or foreshadowing in your fics?
I'm certainly conscious of it, but less so on the first draft. I think foreshadowing has a way of sneaking into my writing naturally (especially because I write chronologically), and then I can really hammer it in during the edit. Symbolism is purely being brought in during the first edit unless it's something so important that it was underlined a lot during the drafting/planning stage.
66. What’s a fun fact about LMHS?
It started as me just randomly thinking about ATLA and sending a question to Hina about what she thought the main trio's bending elements would be, and it just tumbled out of control from there SKJDVBDJKVFB
71. Do you spend more time reading or writing?
Writing, which is... saying something because I really don't spend a lot of time writing on a day-to-day basis. But I haven't read a published book in.... 4 years? And I don't read fanfic very often either, despite my bookmarks tab being overflowing with fics that I would like to read at some point. I just feel like I never have the time or energy to sit down and read.
72. What’s your favorite writing compliment you’ve gotten?
I have gotten a similar comment from multiple people that is about my characterization of canon characters within AUs and how it still feels like the canon characters but with realistic changes based on a different setting, and in fic writing I can't think of higher praise. Like... that's exactly what I want. I don't want the characters to be exactly the same as canon because their circumstances have changed, but I still want them to be recognizable. That's always what I'm striving for, and it makes me happy that people notice and think it's executed well enough to comment on.
76. How do you deal with writing pressure, whether internal or external?
Poorly KDEJVBKJDEFVBJKDFVBJF Really though, I struggle managing pressure when I'm writing. And it's always internal, because external pressure on fics just makes me petty since it's Free Labor, and people who complain about a slow upload schedule or whatever just make me Mad. But internal pressure is HHHHHHHHHH I am Going Through It with LMHS. I want it to live up to expectations, but I also want to finish it quickly, but I also want it to be lush and complete, and there's always this voice in my head telling me I'm not writing fast enough or good enough. Mostly I work past it by reminding myself that the time will pass anyway and that it's a miracle that I can even write ~1k words a day with how tired my job makes me. And on the days when that doesn't work, I have loud music KSJDVBDKJVBJDKFV
78. What motivates you during the writing process?
Up to the point where I start posting (for my last long fic, I was >100k in before I uploaded the first chapter), the motivation comes from a simple desire to write that particular story. For me, it can't come from anywhere else. If I don't want to write on a fic anymore and I haven't uploaded yet, I'll just stop. However, once I start posting, comments and general interaction with the fic gives me a huge bump in motivation. Engagement and talking about the story and the characters and the plot just makes me so excited to keep going so that I can drop the next plot twist or cliffhanger and read everyone's reactions. This time, for LMHS, I am very very lucky to have my own personal cheer squad of one (Hina) motivating me daily through memes and character discussion and new pieces of art and other various things <3
79. Do you have any writing advice you want to share?
The best actual constructive writing advice that I can give is: Do Not Edit Something Until You're Done. And yes, I mean the entire story - do not go back and reread/rewrite until you're done with it. Nothing will make your forward momentum disappear faster than going back to edit. If you're too hung up on details and perfection right away, you're never going to get done. You have to just write and accept that things will need to be reworked. Make notes for yourself on things to fix later or whatever, just do not scroll back up and start editing before you're done with something. It will only make you disappointed that where you pick up again isn't going to look as nice as what you just edited.

🍄📚🥐🪲🧩
🍄 ⇢ share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings
i don't talk or write about it a lot, but i think about riddler x captain boomerang almost constantly, and i know they view sex as a literal competition and they have a dedicated space on the wall where they log who made the other cum first
📚 ⇢ what's the last thing you wrote down in your notes app?
i don't use my notes app BUT i write all my stupid ideas down in tumblr drafts AND lmao it was a piss!kink/cuck micah scenario where he robs your farm and you're so scared you pee and then he mocks you relentlessly while fucking you in front of your husband. i'm at peace with who i am LMAO
🥐 ⇢ name one internet reference that will always make you laugh
of course my mind went completely blank on anything that has ever made me laugh before lmaooo BUT i quote almost daily and subsequently giggle each time "oobh i got plany off time" i dunno it just resonates with me
🪲 ⇢ add 50 words to your current wip and share the paragraph here
AH this was good motivation to write something this morning With very little grace, he pulled his pants down to his knees and lowered himself to your level. Kneeling on one knee, the opposite foot planted firmly on the ground as he pulled at your hips, bringing you closer to him. The heat of his cock, the sticky texture of his precum, settled against your rear as he shifted between your cheeks, working himself to the correct angle.
🧩 ⇢ what will make you click away from a fanfiction immediately?
one of my pet peeves is pet names, like i think they're all valid because it's up to preference, but if they are not what i think the character would use then i absolutely cannot get into it

🌵📚🪲
🌵 share the link to a playlist you love: I've been listening to Jayden Revri's Charles playlist while I've been putting Charles through it in the next chapter of Came up from that lake of fire.
📚 what's the last thing you wrote down in your notes app? Not fic related, but I tend to rewrite recipes in my notes app so that I have a checklist of steps to follow. So the last thing in my notes app is this lemon berry trifle recipe, which was delicious and which I highly recommend.
🪲 add 50 words to your current wip and share the paragraph here: Putting this below the cut, because it's a pretty big spoiler for the next chapter of Came up from that lake of fire:
The Deathless smiles at Edwin with Charles’s mouth and it almost looks like his usual, beaming smile, except there’s no warmth in his eyes. “What gave us away?”
Edwin takes a step back. It’s tempting to bolt for the door, but that would leave Charles alone under the Deathless’s power and he can’t do that. Is Charles still in there? Is he aware of what’s happening? He must be, because Edwin can’t contemplate the alternative. “Charles is left-handed.”
“Ah.” The Deathless looks down at the cricket bat clutched in Charles’s right hand. “You are quite the detective, Edwin Payne.”

writing meme: about me
i got tagged by @lusthurts so thank you for that <3
1. How did you get into writing fanfiction?
ive been into writing for years before i got into fanfiction specifically so i guess just from reading fanfiction i guess, but if you want a longer story, i got more interested in writing from roleplaying on amino and got into fanfiction because the fandom i was in at the time got OBSESSED with this one popular work and i just HAD to check it out
2. How many fandoms have you written in?
officially, my ao3 account only has glee works rn but i do have a 911 fic im working on and i do want to venture into more fandoms, but i don’t really have the confidence to do so yet
3. How many years have you been writing fanfiction?
i’ve been trying since 2020 to be more of a fanfic writer but never actually got anything solid until 2023 so 1-4 years depending on how you see it
4. Do you read or write more fanfiction?
definitely read im a slowass writer and part of that is because im too busy reading fanfiction instead of writing
5. What is one way you've improved as a writer?
overall in the years i’ve been a writer, i feel like i’m better at portraying characters as well rounded and creating characters that aren’t just one stereotype. when it comes to my time as a fanfic writer, im better at writing actual scenes rather than just random narration
6. What's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
the probability of survival when falling from certain heights. also ohio the glee writers were cruel for making their show based in fucking ohio of all places
7. What's your favorite type of comment to receive on your work?
i’m honestly not picky i love all types of comments, but if i really had to choose, it’d probably be any that point out a specific part or line or whatever in my writing. it makes me so happy when people have some detail stick with them
8. What's the most fringe trope/topic you write about?
i honestly haven’t done anything too intense in my writing i think the most out there i’ve gotten is just emotional infidelity and that’s just standard for seblaine. i do plan on killing blaine in one wip of mine, but it’s just an idea for now because i’ve got other shit to focus on
9. What is the hardest type of story for you to write?
longer stories are literally impossible for me. i absolutely SUCK at writing anything longer than a couple thousand words and even that is hard for me. smut is also hard but that’s because i haven’t bothered to write smut, so different vibes
10. What is the easiest type?
well if you see how many hurt no comfort fics i’ve published it’s obvious fluff is what i’m best at. but yeah short vignette angsty stories are super easy for me to write. it’s just 50% projection and 50% exaggeration and 100% gay, so no problem there
11. Where do you do your writing? What platform? When?
i often write at home, on my notes app, at any point of the day, and i post all my stuff on ao3. i will sometimes edit on my laptop on google docs, but i get lazy too and so my latest fics have been mostly raw and unedited.
12. What is something you've been too nervous/intimidated to write, but would love to write one day?
smut and literally any ship that isn’t seblaine and also longer works. i’d love to be one of those writers who comes out with these multi chapter masterpieces but i’m just not right now. i’ve had ideas for other ships too, but i never really flesh them out because they’re usually stuff that would span across thousands of words and i don’t have the time, energy, nor skill level to do that yet. and again, for smut, i just never bother, and while i think im never going to be the explicit sex scenes type of writer, i love the angst potential of it
13. What made you choose your username?
acedisgrace is a name i’m like 85% sure i saw a joke about from a stolen tumblr post on instagram and i was like hey im asexual and a disappointment haha what if i change my discord name to that and then eventually when i got an ao3 account, i just went with it because i saw it was available there too. as for calsvoid, they’re my initials and i spew whatever bullshit i want on tumblr and also i wish i didn’t have a body and instead was an amorphous blob of nothingness
i don’t really know who to tag that i haven’t already seen tag so anyone who would like to do this can

📚, 🥑, 🪐, or 🪲, whichever you prefer! (first three are because curiosity, last one is bc curiosity and also if it would help just to write Something)
Last ask in my inbox! Thank you bardic!
📚 ⇢ what's the last thing you wrote down in your notes app?
Last fandom related thing, which will mean nothing to you but some other people will probably get: "Matthew swift fanart —two Matthews walking side by side during insguration. Different eyes. Dragon of the city behind them"
Last Murderbot related thing: a note titled OU govmod, which i will not paste in its entirety here, but just.....you know how much I like giving Murderbot malware that reactivates its governor module? You know how much i like writing about OldUnit? Frankly I have no idea why those didn't come together until now
🥑 I have answered recently, and 🪐 is pretty strongly related to the next one, so I'll just skip straight to:
🪲 ⇢ add 50 words to your current wip and share the paragraph here
So uh. How about 1,057 words up on ao3 now?
Enormous thank you to you and @fishdetective for making me go write things, because you just got me to barge through my writers' block and finish the chapter I have been trying to finish for four months. It's done!!!!
And here are your 50 words, just cause:
I am trying to understand the emotions it is bleeding into the feed. I still don’t understand why I am in a cubicle and not a recycler. You were supposed to abandon me. I wasn’t going to let you die, Niri says, as if that is a simple fact of the universe.

🛼 🥤 🍄 📚 🌿 🪲 🐝
for that ask game^ you don’t have to do all of them this is simply a curated selection by yours truly
🛼 ⇢ describe your latest wip with five emojis
i mean, you have classified knowledge on which one i last worked on but here ya go: ☕️👀😇👋🤡
🥤 ⇢ recommend an author or fanfic you love
been reading a few fics from Inquillitory (Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone is a good angst read and i’ve been following It Hurts To Hope for a few chappies now)—can i recommend your own writing on an ask you sent in?? ksdljf;lsfsdlkj people who are not melon, go check out 1watermelontea they have a fun fantasy au and a co-written mer au with me :)
📚 ⇢ what's the last thing you wrote down in your notes app?
the actual last thing was me reminding myself that i lent a friend a book (ninth house, if anyone’s curious) but the last fic related note i jotted down was written two days ago at like. 3am and it simply reads, “LT inspired au: gem = vanja, pearl = ragne???” (kudos to anyone who catches what i’m referencing)
🌿 ⇢ give some advice on writer's block and low creativity
in my experience, there are two main types of writer’s block, generally: there’s the “your body is rebelling against the idea of creativity bc you haven’t eaten or drank in ten hours or you’ve been criminally overworking yourself,” in which case, the fix is just… a break and self care. then there’s the “brain will not write/generate ideas for seemingly no reason,” which is about 10x more annoying to work around but usually i either table whatever i’m struggling to work on and work on smth else (hence why my google drive is a Monster lmfao), get my brain warmed up by rereading and sometimes editing a finished fic, or doing this trick i learned in english class ages ago and just. writing all my thoughts in a list format until my brain spits out a new idea or decides it’s ready to actually write.
🪲 ⇢ add 50 words to your current wip and share the paragraph here
did. did you just trick me into adding to our wip ksldjfl;sajfs
since the full paragraph is not 50 words (and also bc technically melon wrote the first word lol), y'all get an extra sentence from the next paragraph as well:
"Totally.” Her gaze flickered briefly over to her… imaginary friend? Scar watched as he clamped a hand over his mouth, seemingly concealing an amused smile. Pearl shot him a pointed look before turning to Scar. “What floor are you heading to?”
Scar blinked at her, then upon realizing he hadn’t thought this far ahead in his plan, instinctively blurted out, “Same as you!”
🐝 ⇢ tag your biggest supporter(s) and say one nice thing about them
@1watermelontea hello melon, the answer to this question is just. you. i’m gonna use this as an opportunity to respond to that secret author’s note (for those of you who are not melon/have no idea what note i’m referencing, my dear co-author decided to be sappy in the notes of our fic chasing the horizon line go check it out <33): i’m so touched?? writing with you has been so so much fun and i get so excited whenever i see you’ve added things to our docs and just. chatting with you is always a highlight of my day :D

Day Five of Peggy Week: WIPs // Week One of Steggy Month: Peggy Carter
this was born out of a very vague prompt I don't even remember putting in my notes app: "Peggy can't decide if she likes the beard or not." I know a lot of people strongly prefer Steve's infinity war look and headcanon that he grew it back after he went home but I've always had kinda mixed feelings about it!! He shaved as soon as he got the chance... beards were not popular in the 50s... etc etc. So I wanted to write something cute and silly and goofy exploring that from Peggy's pov. Who knows when it'll be done and posted. In the meantime you can read my published works here <3 excerpt under the cut!
[3 weeks after branch] When Peggy climbed into bed after she finished pinning her hair, Steve immediately wrapped her in his arms and kissed her neck. She scrunched her nose and pushed at his chest.
"You need to shave," she grumbled. "You're itchy."
He had neglected his razor over the weekend, and the stubble was starting to bother her now that it had grown some. Steve ran a hand over his chin. "Really? I was thinking I might grow it out a bit. It'll help with the hiding."
Peggy eyed him critically. "Maybe. But my neighbors already think enough about the mysterious man who showed up on my doorstep and started living with me, are you sure you want to add a beard into the equation? They'll start questioning you soon enough."
Though she was teasing, he realized she did have a point. He had gotten used to a society where it was widely acceptable, even encouraged, for men to have beards. But he had come back to a society where it wasn't. Some facial hair might help conceal his fairly recognizable face, but would it really help if it also made him stand out from the crowd?
She continued, "besides, I just can't imagine you with a beard. It wouldn't work."
He did love an opportunity to prove Peggy Carter wrong.

Do you have any idea how long it took me to stop laughing when we were talking about this earlier ??? I literally lost it again looking for this pic 😂

How dare you make me add words to my wip
Eddie wasn’t sure if he’d survive losing Buck a second time, he wasn’t sure that he’d be strong enough to let him go again, so he told himself that he would be professional, and he would be cordial, but he couldn’t let him get close to him, not like they once had been. It was for the best.

okay i guess this can sort of count for both since i wrote a bit like not that long ago (more than 50 tbh).. and i use google docs as my note app.. which is mostly just jotting down whatever idea i have into a fic!! this is extracted from my upcoming vampire oneshot, apologies if it's a little boring, but i'm in the lore-building portion, so trust it adds up to something!!

🛼🍄📚🪲 any all or none for the writer truth or dare, if you'd like?
🛼 ⇢ describe your latest wip with five emojis
perhaps my least hinged fic yet honestly:
🎂🍾⏳🔄❤️‍🩹
🍄 ⇢ share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings
I like the idea that Sam is not, in fact, a morning person. I know that he canonically wakes up at dawn to go running, and he probably had to get up early as a kid to help out with the boat, but it makes sense to me that he would do that because he felt he should and because it became habit, not because of an innate inclination towards it. I also kind of think that Bucky probably sleeps in when he manages to sleep through most of the night, which is important because I'm very charmed by the idea of him convincing Sam that it's not a crime to stay in bed past 8 AM, actually, and that he should try it. (I feel strongly enough about this that I turned it into a fic a while ago.)
📚 ⇢ what's the last thing you wrote down in your notes app?
a grocery list from a panicked run to the store in the face of guests arriving within two hours -- and then I made a plum cake good enough that my aunts took home half and literally scraped the crumbs off the plate and cooling rack

Well, it was dialogue and I got carried away so here's a bit of the D&D AU under the cut
“What is it, Sam?” Steve asks. “Did Redwing see something?” Sam shakes his head. “Not exactly.” He points to the dirt road that leads up to the gates, broad enough for carts and horses to approach. “At any point, there’s at least three dozen people living in the Sanctum.” “And?” prods Steve.  Beyond him, Bucky seems to have run out of patience, turning his back on them and moving towards the road. Sam chooses to ignore him. “And magic or not, nobody is conjuring provisions for three dozen people on a daily basis, not to mention components for their spells. A place like this must get supplies at least three times a week.” Steve’s eyebrows are furrowed, but before he can open his mouth the ask the question that Sam knows is coming, they hear Bucky’s voice. “There are no tracks on this road,” he says, and Sam realizes that he walked away to examine the path more closely. “If a cart was bringing provisions, there would be tracks.” “Rain?” suggests Natasha, but Bucky waves a hand. “The underbrush was too dry. This place hasn’t seen rain in almost two weeks.”

🍄 ⇢ share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings
I've had cyberverse soundrod rotating through my brain for the past few days so...to most bots' surprise, Hot Rod is the one who prefers to keep the details of their relationship private. He'll talk about how much fun he has with Soundwave and how happy they are together, but specifics like his sheer delight whenever he and Soundwave fight side by side, or the fondness in Soundwave's expression when they're alone? He keeps those to himself.
Meanwhile Soundwave is perfectly fine with oversharing any and all facts about his and Hot Rod's life together so he can show off their relationship. Often, he's weaponizing this as a way to put off others and get them to leave him alone. Other times, like when it's just him and Shadow Striker hanging out, he's genuinely happy to not shut up about Hot Rod. And Shadow Striker thinks it's almost cute, even if there's some details Soundwave shares that she'd really rather not know.
📚 ⇢ what's the last thing you wrote down in your notes app?
Ooh so I have an original story idea I've been working on (and by working on, I mean I have a 6000+ word outline but I have not written a single word of the actual story) and I've got a notes page for jotting down any little ideas or flashes of inspiration I want to remember—I added to it this morning.
🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
There's probably much weirder topics I've researched in the past, but I recently went diving (heh) into deep ocean geography and the ridiculously high number of very weird creatures that live that far down. Unfortunately, for fic purposes I'm going to have to ignore a lot of my research on this topic or else the story details won't make sense :(
🪲 ⇢ add 50 words to your current wip and share the paragraph here
WHAT DO YOU FEAR MOST? is slowly typed across the screen in blocky green glyphs. “I fear nothing!” Megatron snarls. The question is wiped off the screen, replaced by a single word. LIAR. Silver flashes as Megatron levels his fusion cannon at the terminal. His cannon powers on with a high-pitched whine that echoes in the small space.
(despite the extreme tone shift, this is actually from the soundstar fic lmao)

ty for asking love!
📚 ⇢ what's the last thing you wrote down in your notes app?
i put my weights/sets into my workout plan for the gym lol
🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
i don't research that often because i prefer to just make shit up lmfao. i think the last thing was hotels in new york city?
❄️ ⇢ what's your dream theme/plot for a fic, and who would write it best?
my dream plots i write myself lmao, though i sometimes ramble about ships i don't write, like landoscar ideas, or total fluffy/romance wips that i have no patience to write myself (or would ruin by adding porn) - and i will always trust @wanderingblindly to execute them perfectly.

i would literally spoil so much so i won't but you can have this:
He gets in the tub.
The water is comfortingly warm, lapping softly up to his chest as he sinks in. It stands free in the room, on a low platform, cradled in a bay-window. Briefly, he wonders whether anybody from the surrounding buildings can see inside.
Even with the heat, he finds his muscles tense, his entire body taut as if waiting to jump. He feels out of his element, no longer in control of the situation. He cannot possibly imagine what it is that Max will do next, the reason he wanted him to get in the water.
He hears something scraping against the floor, and feels Max settle right behind his head, presumably sitting on a bench or the stool that has previously adorned the corner by the window.
His mind is whirring.
“Max, what-” he begins, not able to hold himself back. He flinches when Max’s hands settle on his shoulders.
“You do not ever stop talking, do you?” he asks. Charles’ cheeks flush with indignation. His confusion is replaced with annoyance, though there is a certain flicker of excitement in the depths of his belly. He has not been under somebody else’s control, not really, in so long.
And after all, it has always been the dizzying cocktail of adrenaline, fear, of danger, and power that excites him. He tips his head back, catching a glimpse of Max’ solemn face.
“Make me shut up, then,” he spits out. Max’s mouth twitches, momentarily morphing into the shadow of a smirk.
“Very well,” he says, and then, pushes Charles underwater.

(Hello, sorry if this sounds weird/rude, idk how to phrase this sentences tbh)
I really want to start writing fanfics, but I keep repeating the same word 3 times in the sentence and I don’t know how to phrase it in any other way to get around it, or making the sentence sound weird, and I keep having to relying on Google to type or using my iPhone mic speaker (it sometimes doesn’t work 50% of the time)in the search engine and type “spell [insert word here]” to recognise the words or know what it means, idk if some of that is because of autism or not.
Do you use any software application/apps to help with writing,
Also side note: when I’m trying to text to somebody on discord, I keep thinking the text I’m typing sounds rude, but I’m not trying to make it sound rude??, and then I just feel really high anxiety about it, is that normal???
Sorry for the long gibberish text lmao
Hi! This isn't rude or weird at all, don't worry! I also get really anxious sending asks or asking for advice, you're good.
I'm not the best person to ask, since I'm still very new to writing and I'm still figuring it out myself, but I'll try my best! Putting it under a readmore because it got long
I personally don't use any apps to help with writing. Google docs has some built in features, like autocorrect or suggestions about word choice/placement or grammar, but that's about it. I've heard Grammarly is good?
For spelling:
If autocorrect isn't working I simplify the word then look up synonyms for it. For example, if I'm struggling to spell "delighted, then I'll simplify that word to "happy", and then google "happy synonyms", and keep looking up and searching words until I get to it.
This is also very good if you're struggling to think of a word you need, or if you don't understand what a word means. Adding "synonym" to your search works wonders, for me at least.
Another option is beta readers! They read through your work and can help with things like spelling and grammar, etc. I get my sibling or mum to read through my shit all the time, and I'll go to friends for advice as well.
For actually writing:
I know exactly what you mean with the getting stuck on a sentence or word and not being able to get around it. I had been wanting to get back into writing for around a year and this always stopped me and made me give up, it's only recently, the past couple of months, that I've started to actually commit to writing and get around it. I still get caught up in it!!
A couple of things help me! The main one is sometimes you have to let yourself write Badly. I have multiple docs of when I first started to write again, and it's all bad, but making myself write it, without expecting to publish it, helped me figure out what works best for me. And more importantly, it helps you get back into the actual habit of writing, and gives you something you can go back and work on. It sucks, and it's hard, but sometimes you just got to write the world's worst sentence.
If that's not working, just bail. In all of my wips, I have half completed sentences where I was really struggling and couldn't get around it, so I just stopped and worked on something else, something easier, and then when I think I can try again, I come back to it.
Breaking to down into really simple sentences also helps, to have a foundation you can build on. Most of my fics start out like "Sonic and Tails have a talk about why Tails is upset. Tails is not making eye contact and is looking at the ground. He says that he didn't like it when Sonic ate his mints without asking. Sonic apologizes and says that he didn't know they were Tails' mints." Even dot points would work. Just the bare basics, and then now that I know what exactly is going to happen, I can go back and start actually Writing it.
One thing that helped me actually figure out how to write was reading other people's works, and noting what I really liked about their writing. What pacing choices, word choices, how they use actions and dialogue etc etc. Even doing things like "hmm I would've used a different word there or swapped the order of those actions" can help you figure out how you want to write.
I hope this helps? I'm not sure how much sense it makes sorry akgfdkjh

hi Wren 🧡 for the ask game🦷📚🪲?? (only if you want :)
omg hi marcela! :) thank u so much for the ask!!!! 🦷 ⇢ share some personal wisdom or a life hack you swear on these are all over the place, but here ya go:
resting can be productive. i know it doesn't feel like it cause capitalism and colonialism have conditioned us to see productivity as residing solely within the realm of wealth accumulation, etc. but u need rest, and there's no shame in caring for yourself
in an emergency, moss + pine sap + willow bark can act as a great natural first aid kit. moss (specifically spaghnum moss) is twice as absorbent as cotton bandages, and it has significant antiseptic properties. pine sap is antibacterial and antifungal and can help heal wounds. willow bark reduces inflammation via salicin.
audiobooks! from! the! library! (use libby, hoopla, overdrive, or one of the others. it's a great way to support your local library)
adobe express is a great free tool to make rly nice gifs

🪲 ⇢ add 50 words to your current wip and share the paragraph here my most recent wip is a poetry commission, which i don't think i can share until it's done. uh. so have this paragraph from an x-files wip instead:
Something in him rises to the surface, all scar tissue and broken promises, and it begs him to pull away, to stumble back into safety. And yet, in perfect synchronicity, like two metronomes moving in tandem, a much louder part of him makes itself known--it urges him into the light like Icarus reaching for the sun. He pulls in breath. He remains trapped, a man possessed by the weight of kindness given without a scrap of expectation. Mulder doesn't know if he's ready to burn.
