Committed to making this lol. Dream Island group shot! Every creature in this pic came to me in a dream!
Overview:
On the tree, Phaser. Marks its territory with glowing crystals, which allow it to phase through any solid object they're attached to. It likes to use this to jumpscare people (probably feeds on fear).
In the river, Sirenne the Water Snake. First dream creature I had, she is the matriarch of the island. Pleased with how the island has grown more populated. Endlessly patient.
Fluffy thing by the tree, the still-unnamed Shy Beast. Likes hot drinks and his alone time, but he's getting used to having something of a social life. Only fierce if he needs to protect someone shyer.
Other side of the river, Erin the deer-snake. Baffled and overwhelmed by everything about their new environment. Former human, which they don't talk about to anyone but the Shy Beast, who finds it super interesting.
And alllll the little puffballs, the Patma! They're a species that forms the majority of life on the island. Animal-adjacent intelligence, highly social and eager to get in your personal space. They don't physically age, or at least they don't change size with age. The only way to tell an old Patma from a young one is by observing the white stripe between their eyes (older ones have taller stripes). Commonly come in pastel colors, with dusty pink being the most common.

Autobiography, epeolatry, and book-bosomed for the book ask!
Autobiography: Who is the protagonist you most relate to?
That's very funny question to answer because to be completely honest it's a character from the book that weren't translated from Russian into like... any language. It's a fantasy where he, Roque Alva, is both highest marshall and a duke, ridiculously competent and depressed, effectively immortal (because of the curse) and also everyone around him die or betray him (because of the curse) and he thinks that the curse is he sold his soul to devil or smth (it's not). He also bisexual disaster, proponent of make problems bestowed on him other people's problem and a war criminal(also a bit OP). He was my role model since I was sixteen, helped to circumvent certain mental health patterns (i really didn't want to end up like him lmao) and was the first and only character I can claim to "kin" in popular understanding of the word. We are just on the same wavelength. And he also was a breath of fresh air in occasionally hair-tearing passages of book
The hero of the Night.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking from the books someone realistically might read... Idk. I found myself really relating to Hamlet.
(maybe the secret is i feel kinship with characters that are just Haunted by their life)
Epeolatry: What is your favorite book quote?
Oh. All the questions are out to get me. For the record, I have exceptionally bad memory. Like I barely can remember words you said to me 30 seconds ago. I won't remember quote if I didn't reread it fairly recently. I constantly awed by different quotes in the books, but unfortunately I don't keep track of them. That said
'But look, you found the notice, didn't you? ' 'Yes,' said Arthur, 'yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the Leopard.
From the Hitchhiker's guide to galaxy. I both remember it (noticeable quality) and enjoy it tremendously.
Book-bosomed: what is a book you feel everyone should read?
Depends on how you pose a question. If I had ability to force everyone read one book
... because it's amazing?
Cloud Atlas, David Mitchell. Very thoughtful, multiple perspectives, interesting wordbuilding, plays around with language, combines few different genres and eras
Tumblr media
... because how do you stil don't know it how how I'll start chewing your shoes ?
Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien. Both The Staple and The Cradle of Fantasy. If you absolutely must read only one fantasy book. Let it be Tolkien. It has everything. Is pretty amazing. Wordbuilding out for my heart.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(but I was lately informed that a lot of people don't enjoy reading it because it's epos, and I am not really cruel and also don't really believe that anyone Must read something)
(if I was unusually cruel Silmarillion would be so funny for the book to force people to read, most of them won't even read LOTR, comedy gold)
If I was to recommend a book keeping in mind that not all people like dense books?
Probably aforementioned Hitchhiker's guide to galaxy. It's easy. It's fun. It has puns. 42.
Tumblr media
Or wait hmmmmmmmmmmm
It's my chance to propagate amazing unpopularish stuff.
So everyone goes to read Myth Adventures cycle by Robert Asprin (first few books are really cool and then read as much as you feel like).
It has very good dialogue, and sniping and sarcasm. It's a comedy and slight parody on the genre with backwater mage student that dreams of becoming a Thief and reluctant teacher who lost his magic just now as he was summoned to this backwater town and now they need to flee from the assassins and learn magic on the road. Also teacher big and green and has sharp teeth hope this helps

How much worldbuilding do you have? Not because I love it or anything- (I've already noticed some of the bits you've sprinkled in regarding architecture and clothing but I would love to hear more if you want to share!! More on these or language or food or trade exports or-)
ooOOH WORDBUILDING. my beloved. especially for Golden Rings. i have some (?) that's fully fleshed out and fully coherent, absolutely! Pulling from some of your suggestions, so starting with trade, the Nether and the Overworld are obviously in constant contact and commerce with each other. That much is kinda obvious, since The End is actually sorta..limted access only? Compared to just poppin' up a Nether portal, at least. Most of the exports between the Nether and overworld areee typically building materials at a massive level, meaning that things like quartz, blackstone, all those fancy materials are constantly being traded and paid for and brought through. On a smaller level, though, the nether is also known for its apothecary-related materials for potion making, which is obviously based on gameplay. (Blaze rods, magma cream, etc.) so shops and other people also find trade sources within the nether for those sorts of things. hopefully that makes sense haha i also LOVE that you noticed my architecture lore. because god. i don't know a ton about it in technical terms— but if i've learned ANYTHING from this fandom, it's that a building can have a LOT to say and a lot of meaning. And you mentioned the gates the other day in your ao3 comment, but there's more! Like, the windows for example are pretty obvious, but they definitely have such open windows because the Overworld Royal line has 1. always had winged beings in it, so it was built for easy take off and landing's sake and 2. their entire thing is about being open and having access to the rest of the world. Whereas in the Nether, they're very iron-clad and defended. Mostly because they live in a place with many hostile beings that can do real damage (ahem. GHASTS.), but also because i think they have more of a protection priority and want that impression to carry through into the castle :) so you can see how their ideals and defenses might definitely clash in something like,, war. which i need to try and expand on sometime because i'm just flying by the seat of my pants with what they were actually fighting over lol.
BUT! one thing i can also say is that the Overworld's army is much bigger than the Nether's. This being because the Nether, who takes pride in defense and such, trains their soldiers and knights to be multi-faceted. They can handle a lot that is thrown at them, and they're very diverse since they technically have to consider fighting on multiple kinds of landscape/in different weather/etc. So, while they may lack in number, they make up for in a really intensely strong and adaptable force of soldiers. But the Overworld doesn't really have that, not as much as the Nether. So, they have power in numbers and larger, oddly complex weaponry. uhhHH i haven't thought TOO much about language aside from a few things that are not at all coherent in my brain! but here's one thing, i suppose! :D People from the Nether or the End will often use "Void" instead of "Gods" like people in the overworld do. Obviously language is fluid and exchanged, so this isn't a fixed concept. but depending on how close you are to a town/village with a nether portal, there will be lots of different languages/slang the closer you get, because it's likely those who live in that town have visited/lived in the nether at some point and have picked up a few things while they were there. i just thought that was kind of an interesting lil tid bit. annnd i'm gonna shut up now before i write a whole ass essay in your ask response LMAO dude,, you really know how to get me goin' with this story,, woooughh but thank you for asking!! i really love talking about it and answering the questions so sfksj

Listen listen, the second I laid my eyes on your Super Mario AU art and headcannons + your incredibly creative wordbuilding for your AU plus the adorkable ship of Bowser X Luigi, I think I've never fallen back into an old fandom harder than before. I may not be into it as much as in the old days but who the heck can say no to fantastic fanart like this?!
So yeah, now that I got that little geeking out moment, I do have a question in mind.
You've have established so far how the kingdoms and their respective intercations in this AU work and that now the world is living in like a world peace scenario where disputes are solved with sports and events to prevent wars and nothing goes wrong (expect in the sea with the whole pirates situations). You also made it clear which is the main ship in this AU (Bowser X Luigi). That got me thinking: Are interspecies interactions/ even relationships becoming a more common thing ? Like, it's seems obvious since the world is at peace which to me implies traveling and communication with other kingdoms is easily accessible, it doesn't seem that farfetched to me that the inhabitants of differenti places start to mingle with each other, making connections and friendships and maybe even create relationships. Maybe once it was frowned upon but now it's starting to be more acceptable.
Sorry if this might be a stupid or very obvious question to have, but I just like hearing your thoughts on a world you clearly love to build and create. You definitely earned a new follower!! ;) Keep up the good work!
Interspecies interaction is absolutely common place. It has to be to maintain global peace, and it has been made common for a hundred years or so. This "world peace" business isn't necessarily old, but it isn't new either, so by the time the main characters are in the picture, it's seen as a normal thing. As such, no one would really bat an eye if you made friends with a Koopa, or a Goomba, or anything of that sort. The same goes for romantic relationships.
THAT SAID, just because world peace has been achieved it doesn't necessarily mean every kingdom in the entire world is for it. When the World Convention began, it started as a whole bunch of kingdoms coming together and basically going "hey, we're real tired of killing and fighting each other. Wanna be friends instead? :)" A whole bunch of laws, regulations, suggestions, ideas, were passed amongst them before the huge alliance finally settled on an agreement. Thing is, while every kingdom with an official governing body was invited to join, not every kingdom actually accepted the terms.
Some were too stuck in their ways, or maybe at the time had very poor leadership who refused to join the alliance. Anyone who opted out of joining was entirely free to continue business as usual, but were warned that attacks on anyone who did agree to the terms would not be taken lightly.
So there are a few kingdoms in this world that are out and isolated from this alliance by choice. One of the reasons was their refusal to accept interspecies relations and interactions on equal ground.
As a matter of fact, Koopa Kingdom was one of these kingdoms. Particularly when Bowser's grandparents, then parents, were in charge. At the time the Koopa Kingdom was an absolute monarchy so whatever the ruling pair said, went, no matter what the general population wanted, and at that time it was to opt out of the alliance and do their own thing.
Bowser himself is such a popular king because he is the complete opposite of both his parents and grandparents: he reduced the amount of power he holds over the country and gave some of it to the people by forming a council (officials would be elected by popular vote). While Bowser still has overall final say, he can't just go "HAHA I'm king i can do whatever I want" anymore. He also had set to work on many things his predecesors refused, such as: entering the Koopa Kingdom into the World Convention, legalizing interspecies marriage rights, raising minimum wages dramatically, just to name a few.
This got a little bit tangent-y but, I hope that answers your question. :)
