Longing for a fic where Hob reads The Little Prince to Dream. For whatever reason, I don’t know.

something something Hob thinks of it as a story about the joy of living and experiencing new things. Maybe he’s also thinking a little of the fox. If you tame me, then we shall need each other. You become responsible forever for what you have tamed.

But he realizes halfway through that he fucked up. He forgot the ending. He’ll have to read the ending, there’s no getting around it.

something something Dream listening to the Little Prince planning with the serpent to end his human body’s life so he can leave and go home.

and of course there comes the inevitable day when Dream is standing to take his leave like he’s done so many times before, but it feels different. Hob can tell. And Dream says, “Nothing is wrong…I must go. I have procrastinated long enough.”

But Hob can hear, in the back of his mind— Do not come…you understand…it is too far…I cannot carry this with me…it shall look as if I was suffering…do not come to see that…it is not worth the trouble…

The next morning, though. He wakes to a knock on the door, and finds Dream. Standing there, looking looking down at himself in amazement. Telling him, “This body, it really isn’t as heavy as all that, is it?”

The things he left behind to be free were so much heavier.

Me: Is it? Baby boy definitely did all that shit, sure, and yeah it was terrible to Louis and Claudia and Lestat and Madeleine and technically the whole coven...he looked fabulous af doing it thought. Credit where credit is due he gaslit his way to a mediocre relationship and, probably, [Redacted but understood by the girlies in the *know* about 1973-1985]. Not being alone meant being in the worst possible relationship for all parties. Gremlin chose violence against everyone, himself included. I'm not gonna say oh woe is him when it comes to this (his backstory is a whole other story but we're not really there yet). He's a chaos demon and I just love that for him. And I love that it was his (eventual) fledgling who exposed him. He had it coming. Either way? He's a little evil shit but he sure as shit was fabulous doing it and I love him.

i have to say seeing how popular jem is now, knowing he hasn't always been, is SO reassuring and relieving. not because other characters aren't great or have good values, but because it means jem's standout qualities – things like kindness, compassion, gentleness, being thoughtful – are being appreciated and seen as more important and that's SUCH a good thing. especially knowing ya's history of pushing forward the toxic-cocky-mysterious bad boy agenda… we're finally putting qualities like kindness above that, which is a really positive step forward. i know it's more nuanced than this, and tsc's characters are far more nuanced (jem's sole trait isn't being kind, for instance) but he wasn't always appreciated this much and as a longtime jem fan i truly love to see it. i grew up reading books where the mc always went for the mysterious bad boy character – ruder, testy, provocative – and often these characters were more popular because being kind was seen as 'boring' or meant you could only ever be in the friendzone. jem was one of the first characters i read who had this really horrible backstory, but throughout everything was genuinely just kind. it's really wonderful to see so many people appreciating that :)

including characters from past games is unfair because new players (and some devs. in zevran's case) will be confused </3 to make it fair we should include characters from the tie-in material so even MORE people are confused

It's really interesting that Wynne actually has quite a measured, bordering on downright sympathetic response to hearing what Jowan did in the prologue -- if the mage Warden says "I still can't believe Jowan was that stupid", her answer is something like a thoughtful "Stupid, or desperate, or merely curious?". She seems to think of Jowan as a kid who got in over his head, rather than any less charitable interpretation. I do believe she genuinely is as against blood magic as she publicly expresses and as the Circle party line demands, but as a private person she clearly has a more nuanced and potentially kinder understanding of the reasons why someone might resort to it, at the very least.

(related: when she says that part about Irving telling her what happened, there's no dialogue option in the first stage of the conversation (except choosing the 'leaving the conversation' one) that doesn't net you +2 approval! no matter how the warden feels about it, she is ready to recieve it. I think that says something sweet about how Wynne conceptualizes younger mages and the honest real affection she has for them. if you didn't snitch on jowan and say you stand by that decision, though? +3 approval, apparently! what Wynne says and what Wynne thinks is not always the same thing indeed, her idea of where personal loyalty and integrity stands vis-a-vis a mage's responsibility to the circle may be more flexible than she'd have people believe, you'll be surprised to learn lol)

I have always liked wynne and found her interesting, in all her hypocrisies and her earnest care, but with slightly older eyes she's extra fascinating to me in the same ways that Iron Bull is -- seeing someone whose mind has had hollows carved out in it by the need for double-think and compartmentalization imposed by the oppressive systems and ideologies they live under, and the quiet fight of the self to still preserve vital parts of itself that the system deems unacceptable in the hidden backstage areas of the soul, as it were. (and for both of them part of that self is love and protectiveness of specific other people, beyond what their 'role' dictates is acceptable for them.) I think Wynne has managed to sneak more of her internal self through the meatgrinder relatively intact than Bull overall, but it's the same logic underlying it, for me, and it makes me feel such intense affection and compassion for them both to see how hard they try
