more lumberyard monster stuff including characters and monster anatomy. putting under read more cause LONG

characters: 

Sixer: monster man. no idea what he is or where he came from, only that he doesn’t want to go back. is generally playful, lazy, incredibly quick to learn, curious, and a trouble maker when he’s bored. loves his tv, the dog, eating, annoying Dale, sleeping, and Alvin. 

Alvin: lover boy. Tony’s nephew. Started working at the lumberyard not long before they found Sixer. is kind of quiet, gentle, relatively down to earth, clearly beat down already even in his mid-twenties, not helped by his verbally abusive and manipulative girlfriend who eventually becomes his fiancee as he doesn’t know how to get out of the relationship. loves working with him hands, modding/fixing things, old cars, all kinds of music, and chilling with Sixer.

Tony: the dad guy. first generation American. mom immigrated to U.S. from Mexico. loves motorcycles, making people smile, and his wife. is second pony to the owner, runs the saws, and is basically the lumberyard’s HR department. has four kids and is all-around a nice guy. see’s the yard crew as a second family. Named Sixer for his six limbs and is very proud of that fact. Thinks of him as his ‘buddy’.

Charlie: bull dyke owner. Took over the yard from her father. is happily married to a law professor. loves bourbon, her motorcycle, and her dog. used to smoke, has the smoker’s voice and laugh, and chews nicotine gum like her life may depend on it. is tough but fair. pretty no nonsense with most of her workers, but Tony who is both a family friend and her second in command and Sixer, who she dotes on in her own way.

Dale: Shitty guy. Hates paying child support. Just the worst. An HR nightmare before Sixer came along to keep him in place.

Brian: Alvin’s friend who also works at the yard. Likes to drag race, pick up chicks, and kind of instigates Dale even if he doesn’t mean to. Is kind of ambivalent to Sixer but likes the novelty of having this weird monster at the yard

McKenzie: cashier girl/secretary. Doesn’t work in the yard itself, but spends all day inside answering the phone and cashing out orders. Single-mother in her early twenties and Charlie allows her to bring her kid to work when she can’t get a babysitter especially with Sixer around cause he likes watching the kid. Kind of stuck up, kind of a party girl, but is fun to be around.

Scruff: Is a dog. Some kind of large shepherd mix. Loves to follow Sixer and is the one who initially found him on a rainy afternoon, injured and hiding behind the saw mill.

Angela: Charlie’s wife. visits the yard from time to time. Tony calls her the big boss because everyone watches themselves when she’s around. Is beloved by all save for Dale. Sixer has some kind of crush on her.

Monster anatomy bits: 

- Sixer is a strange mixture of ape, panthera, and reptile in body shape, while gait swaps between felid and simian depending on the situation. is capable of sitting on his haunches to get a better look around and capable of walking for a limited time on two legs, though very awkwardly. hips generally sit lower to the ground than shoulders while walking on all fours as forelimbs are slightly longer than backlegs. is capable of reaching speeds of 35mph for an extremely limited time and can leap up to 30ft horizontally though is capable of walking for days on end if needed.

- is covered in large golden brown plated scales that are smooth to the touch. from the shoulder to just before the hips are large thick black spines ranging in length that can be raised and lowered at will to be flush against the back or stand straight up. spines are used to sense vibrations and temperature changes in the air to make up for piss poor hearing. also has some very vibrant neon blue markings that show up after his winter shed during the springtime along his back and sides and that fade by mid-summer. 

- skull and face shape is vaguely human in that it is forward facing and very flat though with noticeable differences. face is covered in smaller thinner scales. eyes are larger, green-yellow in color with round pupils and has two sets of eyelids, one for blocking out light, the other for blocking out dust, debris, and water while still maintaining sight. nostrils are almost flush to the face and also large, covered by sensitive receptors that are activated by a chemical in his saliva, excellent at smelling. brow has bumpy ridges that stick out instead of eyebrows. jawbone is bisected and each side is capable of limited independent movement. has no lips. tongue is long and teeth are more ape like. has no external ear and is genuinely not great at hearing unless someone it talking directly at him. has a crop of black hair/fur on top of head that never grows longer than inch along with a few more psuedo-horns around the crown that are dull.

- six limbed. two hind legs and four arms, each ending in a foot/hand with four digits. one set of arms is slightly larger than the other and has larger claws and are used primarily for locomotion, climbing, and fighting/hunting. other set used for more delicate work. scales on the palms of smaller hands are notably thinner and more sensitive to touch for tool work, affection, and object manipulation. Tony jokingly calls the larger arms his ‘fightin’ arms’ and the smaller ones his ‘doin’ arms’

- from head to tip of tail, Sixer is about 12 feet long and from shoulder to ground when on ‘all fours’ stands at about 4 feet tall. tail makes up 30% of body length, is neither stiff nor prehensile, and is capable of a limited amount of wagging closer to the tip, generally used to signal mood though can be used to whip antagonizers.

-he sheds twice a year, the process taking about two weeks from start to finish and these have been dubbed as ‘hell weeks’ by the crew because they have a massive grumpy snappy itchy monster who rubs himself on every rough surface up to and including the buildings, forklifts, the lumber, any unfortunate cars, the fence, and Alvin for 12-16 days. the best way to deal with it is to hose him down twice a day or provide a small pool for him to soak in and give up on trying to get the garage broom from him which he uses to brush himself.

- opportunistic omnivore that can eat almost anything. to lead a healthy diet, requires 70% meat/organ/bone and 30% veg. while svelte, he actually gains a little extra belly cause of the access to a local deer/rabbit overpopulation and the crew just giving him food all the time. 

- has a range of vocalizations and i still haven’t decided if he’s capable of speech or if it’s severely limited and the crew teach him to use asl cause it would make sense if he couldn’t form most words given mouth anatomy and I like it better than unexplained telepathy. i’ll probably go with that.

- genitalia are internal and male in nature. 

monster man and the lumberyard extra bits i thought of:

- Tony gives Sixer a T.V. but it’s only hooked up to local channels so at night he watches a lot of bad television and soap operas.

- Sixer starts crushing on Alvin very quickly, but does not understand how to romance Anyone, so he tries to do a mixture of whats instinctual for him and what he sees on bad T.V. Alvin brushes it off for years, thinking Sixer is Just Like That. it takes him a bit to realize he’s catching feelings because while he is book smart, he also is, regrettably, a himbo

- some sneaky government thing is looking for him. so is a local cryptid hunting group. They get alerted cause some hunters find the remains of deer who’s wounds look nothing like something a local predator could do. no one suspects to look in the dusty lumberyard, of course.

- for holiday parties and get togethers, either Charlie or Tony always hand off a bunch of food to Alvin, telling him to go give it to the ‘old man next door’ so he can get away from his fiancee for a bit and so Sixer doesn’t miss out on the festivities

Read the chapters 3 times! and answer all questions behind the text book or better do a brain dump!! (Brain dump is what students to when they have learnt a chapter. They drop it all on a paper about the chapter then compare it to the chapter to see what they missed....

Day 2: Same with Chapter 2 in fact this chapter is only 16 pages 😁

Day 3: The same.... for chapter 3, just 23 pages

Day 4: The same for chapter 4, 22 pages

I work at a music store u can’t just ask me this. When my coworkers play it’s the saxophone or the flute, when the boys in the repair shop are testing repairs and they harmonize with each other or try to outplay one another it’s the bassoon or the trombone or whatever they’re fixing at the moment. The Promises I Made (2019 Edition)

For the past thirteen years, I’ve spent every New Year’s Eve compiling a list of fifty promises I intend to keep or fulfill over the next twelve months. The results have been truly amazing, and I have kept some promises I never thought I could. 2019 was… a nightmare that I can barely believe I survived, but I still kept some promises that I honestly did not expect I ever could.

This year, for New Year’s, there will be a new set of promises for to me keep, but here are the old ones, for review!

The Promises I Made (2019 Edition)

1) Be more proactive about tracking and following up with struggling students to decrease the number of students who drop from my class when they realize they cannot pass. Status: Somewhat broken? I tried really hard to be proactive with my students; however, there were some massive issues outside the classroom this year that made it extremely difficult to keep the focus on the students. When administration drags your attention away from the class, there is not a lot you can do…

2) Find a place to put in volunteer hours because uhhhh like this is actually important to my work evaluation and I definitely need something to write in that section… Yikes, this spring is my last chance to do this!! @_@ Status: Kept. I volunteered with the Utah Shakespeare Festival and it was super fun!

3) Install the fire escape window in the Utah house, no matter how much it might cost, because I can’t get a totally unrelated tenant in that basement without said window… Status: Somewhat kept. Okay. This one is a LONG story, but to be fair to me, I worked my ASS off to try and make this happen; just every single thing in the world prevented me from completing this promise, up to and including the city telling me I needed a permit AFTER I had already dug a massive hole in the ground for the window…

4) Buy sod to add grass to the front portion of the lawn so that it no longer looks like garbage. Status: Broken, but I did buy grass seed and put that out there. Unfortunately only some of it sprouted, but there is indeed SOME grass now growing there…

5) Fix the bricks near the windowsills on the Utah house to prevent long-term damage. Status: Broken. After dealing with the stupid window disaster, I had no time for this at all.

6) Get a watering system for my roses at the Utah house because I think my bro is probably killing them and that’s just not cool. Status: Broken, see above.

7) Work on the patio at the Utah house before it just flat out falls down. Status: Somewhat broken. Again, I tried to make progress on this—I called a patio guy to come out and assess how much it would cost to fix the patio—but the price I was quoted was so high that there was nothing I could do at the time.

8) Paint the stairwell so that there’s no chance of anything like lead paint or asbestos being exposed. Status: Broken. The leftover wallpaper glue continues to confound me…

9) Trim the backyard bushes so the neighbors don’t hate us anymore… Status: Broken. We trimmed a few bushes and at least got to the trees out front, but definitely a majority were left uncared for.

10) Move into a new house in Texas where I can get real internet, please for the love of god… Status: Kept. I moved into a very nice house with no scorpions!

11) Save money for my upcoming trip to Japan! 2020 baby! Status: Uhhh, broken. I’m not sure how I thought I’d be able to move into a new house AND save money for an international trip at the same time…

12) Get my wisdom tooth removed because it’s still there and still killing me, yikessss. Status: Broken. AUGH. I’m an idiot.

13) Make an appointment with an eye doctor for like the first time in years. Good job, Yehn, good job. Status: Kept. I got my glasses fixed and even got a new pair of glasses too!

14) Get my prescriptions refilled because I’m dwindling on asthma medicine and like… I could die from this… I should never have been left to care for myself; I’m not mature enough for this responsibility… Status: Kept, surprisingly. But I still need a new doctor because the last one I was going to wouldn’t give me any refills…

15) FINISH THE GIVEAWAY PRIZES I PROMISED LAST YEAR because holy shit I am incompetent and the worst and everyone has permission to hate me for starting things and never finishing them, fuck. Status: Broken. So broken. I am the worst.

16) Go dolphin watching in the Gulf for real this time. Seriously, it’s $10 Yehn, you can do this. Status: Kept, amazingly. It wasn’t as impressed as hoped; however, there was a lovely sunset.

17) Return to the Channel Islands to take better pictures. D; Status: Broken. T_T

18) Level all my classes to 70 in FFXIV before next expansion, please. Status: Somewhat broken. I didn’t have everything to 70 before the expansion, but I kind of feel like I should get credit for this one, because HEY, look at me now:

19) Organize and properly label all the photos on my computer so that I’m no longer desperately combing through folder and folder in blank confusion, looking for a single picture in a sea of thousands… Status: Kept. It took me like eight hours of work, but I actually did this.

20) Update Home and a Half more than once? PLEASE??? The guilt I feel over this currently is crushing. Status: Broken. And the guilt grows…

21) Complete the online American Literature class I am designing on time and with no corrections needed. Status: Kept. I’m counting this as kept even though TECHNICALLY there was one thing I forgot to finish and it came back and bit me in the ass; however, I was approved with no corrections needed.

22) Earn 100% completion for Kingdom Hearts III. So excited! Status: Broken. Um… This just didn’t happen.

23) Update my calendar with important dates—holidays, birthdays, etc.—and be productive about sending cards and well-wishes. Status: Somewhat kept. I wasn’t any better about sending cards really, but I did at least save all the birthdays in my phone so I remember them.

24) Get the garbage disposal in the Texas house fixed ASAP so I don’t have to wash the dishes by hand anymore because I absolutely hate that particular chore. Status: Kept. Then I moved, so it didn’t even matter.

25) Finish all the books my coworkers and friends bought for me recently so I can thank them for their recommendations! Status: Broken. So broken.

26) Actually move into my new place instead of leaving it completely undecorated and lifeless. Status: Remarkably, kept. Nothing has plastic on it, unlike at my old house where the nightstand didn’t get unwrapped even after two years of living there lol.

27) Try hard to get Creative Writing into a different area of the general ed. core so that more people will enroll in it. Status: Kept. I’m counting this because I did my darn best, but we are still waiting on the state to tell us whether or not the class will be accepted.

28) Get caught up on my Ebird reports, even the old, old, old ones I never put in because I was slacking. Status: Kept, actually. Whoo.

29) Throw away/return/sort all the stacks of old mail in the house (OMGGGG they’ve made me look like paper hoarder and I’m nootttt). Status: Broken. There’s just… a lot of papers to go through…

30) Clean up the garage before moving so that I don’t have to fight spiders to move when the time comes. Status: Broken, in that I did not clean up the garage in advance and did, in fact, have to fight spiders when it came time to move.

31) Find a way to boost grading productivity so that each class takes only two days to grade, maximum. Status: Somewhat kept. I was definitely better this year than last year; however, I really think the “two days per class” thing was too optimistic, so for the future semester, I allotted myself three days per class and I think it will work better.

32) Go to a totally new restaurant and try their food. Status: Kept. We went to a Mexican restaurant and I had trompo tacos (al pastor) which is probably not anything special to anyone else but it was my first time so lol.

33) Cancel old credit cards to make sure my credit is good before trying to buy a house (although I just checked my credit score and I’m in the great range already, so this is mostly for posterity’s sake). Status: Broken. But it didn’t affect my loan, so I guess it was okay. And it ended up being good I didn’t cancel my Best Buy card because I was able to get good financing on the new appliances I needed for my house.

34) Get official contracts from my tenants so I can use my rental income in my next loan calculation. Status: Broken, but I ended up not using that as part of the loan calculation anyway >_> so…

35) Talk to an HR rep about my retirement savings so that I can consolidate all my retirement accounts into one. (Man, look at all these ADULTING promises.) Status: Broken. Look at me failing all these adulting promises.

36) Really finish decorating my office so it looks super cute and all my students want to visit me. Status: Broken, but I think it sucks that I have to write this because it was really not my fault I couldn’t finish decorating my office. Our offices were all moved and disrupted by building remodels so I spent the entire year basically working out of a couple cardboard boxes.

37) Not sign up for ANY more new responsibilities at work in the spring semester. This is the biggest challenge. D; Status: Kept, by technicality. I was able to avoid signing up for anything new in SPRING… But fall… was a whole other story. XD

38) Migrate all the rest of my books to the new Texas house instead of leaving them in Utah… SOMEHOW. Status: Kept. I’m going to count this as kept. The only books left at the Utah house are my manga—I managed to bring literally every other book, which is very impressive considering I had only my small Camaro with its tiny truck space.

39) Use my twitter account more often to make it worth following. I will try!! Status: Kept… sorta? I mean, since I didn’t use the account AT ALL before, making even one Twitter post kind of counts as using it more, right? >_>

40) Keep my hair cut nicely so I look less like a mess (than I really am). Status: Somewhat broken. Although I think I got my hair cut more often this year than before, I don’t think I looked any less like a mess. XD

41) Successfully find a bridesmaid dress for my friend’s wedding that matches the rest of the wedding party. Status: Actually kept! It was incredible. The wedding I was in was even featured in a magazine because of how pretty it was!

42) Make sure my skin is in good condition for the wedding so I don’t look like a disturbing ghost… Status: Kept? I mean, in the end, looking like a ghost ended up being the whole point since it was a Halloween themed wedding so I kind of won either way.

43) Complete my BNHA manga collection. Since my bro bought me a bunch of the volumes for Christmas, I might as well. Status: Broken… I bought like… one volume. XD

44) See a groove-billed ani. (It’s another type of bird.) Status: Broken. Very illusive bird. T_T

45) Respond to messages, asks, and comments more quickly. I promise I’m not ignoring people… D; Status: Um, broken. I left many people on read this year, sorry.

46) Lose ten pounds so that I feel more fit and comfy. Status: Broken. I didn’t exercise at all this year, uff.

47) Pay down credit card debt by at least 1/3. Yikesssss, I really need to do this quick. Status: Broken. It’s hard to pay down a credit card when you pour all your money into buying a new house…

48) I will finally fucking finish that chapter 73 analysis of Noragami… I swear to god… Status: Broken. Uh yeah. This didn’t happen. V_V

49) Reach 1700 followers on Tumblr. You should follow me—I’m only marginally a waste of time and space! Status: Kept. Over 2500 followers now!

Throughout the Years

Summary: Lup and Barry fall in love over the stolen century. Friends with benefits to lovers (fuck me up fam)

Year 13 - Barry

Barry felt terrible. The Light of Creation had fallen, but they had no idea where. They were stuck on this hostile planet. Every day clouds loomed over them and hailed sharp shards of ice. He needed to get away from the ship as soon as he could. 

There was a break in the weather, and he took the opportunity to be alone for a bit. He said that he was going to study the plant life and ran out. Once he was about a mile out, he sat down on the ground, put his head in his hands and started crying. Everything felt so hopeless.  

Barry felt a hand on his shoulder, and Lup dropped on the ground next to him.

“Goodness darling, what’s going on?”

Barry rubbed his eyes and looked at her. “Why did you follow me?”

Lup smiled softly at him. “Do you think that you’re the only one feeling cramped on that ship?” Barry looked away.

“I came here to be alone.”

Lup put her hand on his forearm. “I can be alone with you, then.”

A few more tears came out of Barry’s eyes, and Lup wiped them away.

“But as long as I’m here, you can tell me what’s going on.”

He dragged his sleeve across his face, wiping his nose.

“I just feel hopeless. I hate this planet, and we’re stuck here for six more months. We can’t even do anything to save it. We’ve been doing this for thirteen years now, and I just don’t see the point. Nothing can stop the Hunger. I miss home, but I know I’ll never come back.”

Lup put her head on his shoulder and looked at the field in front of them. When it wasn’t hailing, this planet was surprisingly beautiful.

“We don’t know what happens in the Hunger. We don’t know that our planet is gone. And yes, we haven’t figured out how to stop the Hunger yet. But it’s the apocalypse. It’s going to take us more than thirteen years to figure out how to stop it. And I can’t think of a better team to figure it out, especially with our science expert.”

Barry smiled, and Lup continued.

“You know, I never had much of a home. Taako and I were passed from family member to family member as kids. I miss some things about our planet, but to be honest, the ship with everyone feels like more of a home than anything I ever had. If I had to be with any six people, I’m glad it was you guys.”

He met her eyes, and in that moment, his heart stopped. He fell in love with Lup, right there, right then. She was so positive, even when everything was terrible. She was so kind, stopping when she saw him crying to help him. She was so funny, always making the crew laugh, even in the most dire situations. She was perfect in every way. She had said exactly what he needed to hear. Lup blinked, and continued looking at him. Barry mustered his courage to ask her a question.

“Lup, will you stay with me tonight?”

She broke the eye contact and looked at the sky. “Let me just - ” and she waved her hand, forming a bubble over them, protecting them from any incoming hail. She lay on the ground, and Barry lay beside her. She held his hand, and they stayed like that, talking until it was so late that they couldn’t keep their eyes open.

Year 16 - Lup

Lup was horny. She didn’t mind hooking up with the people she met on each new plane she was on, but she was on a lifeless plane this year. 

On top of that, she was bored. The group managed to find the Light of Creation, but in retrieving it, there was an accident, and she was the only one who returned to The Star Blaster. She wasn’t completely alone - it had been Barry’s turn to watch the ship, so she still had some company. She saw the solution to her problem.

She went to the main deck, where Barry was sitting at the table, reading a book he had found in the previous plane.

“Hey there, nerd boy!”

Barry started, taken by surprise. He chuckled once he saw her.

“What’s up, Lup? Can I get you anything?”

Lup sat next to him.

“Actually Barry, darling, I was thinking I could get you something. A promotion.” He looked at her, confused.

“What do you mean, Lup? Are you planning a coup for next year?” She laughed.

“Oh no, Barry. That’s not what I mean at all. What if I promoted you from ‘nerd boy’ to ‘lover boy?’ What would you think of that?” 

Barry blushed. “I - I really don’t think that’s necessary, Lup. I mean, I am the science expert onboard, I don’t mind, it kind of - ” 

Lup cut him off. “Barry. This would be more than a titular change.” She put her hand on his thigh. “What would you say to taking off these marvelous denim pants and coming into mine?” She winked at him, and started bringing her hand closer to his crotch. Barry stood up suddenly, bright red.

“Lup - I - I didn’t know that you felt that way - I’ve wanted to tell you for - ”

She cut him off again. 

“Oh no, Barry, please don’t misunderstand me. I’m here for a fun time, as friends.”

He looked at her, confused. 

“Have you - with the others?”

She laughed.

“Usually I’m too busy to think about it. And as long as we’re on a planet with other people, I have no problem. It’s pretty perfect that it’s just us two here though, I wouldn’t want anyone else. Merle is obviously much too gross. Davenport would somehow find a way to report himself to HR, and though I have definitely considered her, I have come to the conclusion that Lucretia would act similarly. Taako is my brother, and Magnus is too much like a brother. The only one left is you, and here you are.” She smiled at him cheekily, and continued.

“There’s also very little to do here. No life to study on this desert planet, we’ve found the Light of Creation. What would you say to having a good time, just you and me?”

Barry started stuttering. “Do you - do you really want to do that, with me?”

Lup smiled fondly at him. “Oh, I didn’t mean to make you sound like a last resort, Barry. Those jeans are gorgeous, and I’ve thought of taking them off of you countless times.”

Barry stood still for a moment. Then he walked back to Lup, lifted her from her seat and started kissing her.

She pulled back. “Barold, I’m glad you’re as good a kisser as you are. Otherwise this year would be very awkward.” She threw her arms around his neck and continued kissing him.

Year 16 - Barry

Barry was in heaven and hell. The past eleven months had been simultaneously wonderful and terrible. He and Lup spent their days together, talking and laughing on the ship. They spent their nights together, fucking and cuddling. He had one more week to be alone with the woman he loved, one more week to be tortured because she didn’t love him the way he loved her. He had been close to telling her that he loved her so many times, but he always lost the courage. Everything was so good - he didn’t want to mess it all up. And she seemed pretty clear in that she thought of him as strictly a friend. 

The sex was amazing. Barry had slept with people before, but no one compared to Lup. Everything was so intense. And holding her afterwards filled him with joy like nothing else ever had. He hoped that she would think his heart beating fast because of the sex, but it was because he was holding her, and he loved her so much. He wished that this torture could last forever. He didn’t want this year to end.

Year 17 - Lup

Barry and Lup had gone out to help some robots in town. They wanted to build trust in this community, and this seemed to be the best way. Lup had just finished fixing up a robot whose arm kept falling off. As she sent him on his way, with a fully functional arm, she saw Barry get shocked by the robot he was fixing. The robot cackled rambunctiously, and Lup joined in. She walked closer to the pair.

“What’s going on, Barold?”

“Not much, Lup. Just - ” Barry paused and his muscles tensed up. The robot laughed again, and Lup couldn’t resist chuckling. Barry smiled when he saw her laughing, and he continued working on the robot, despite the frequent shocks. While Lup laughed at Barry, she realized something. He kept working to help others, even when he got hurt. He did it with a smile. She put her hand over her mouth as she continued giggling. She loved Barry Bluejeans.

That night, it felt different. Lup was in bed, and Barry pulled back the sheets to join her. She smiled at him and crawled on top of him. Usually, their sex was fast and hard, and they had to restrain themselves from screaming. Tonight, everything was tender. They lingered over parts that they usually didn’t linger over. Their kisses, previously short and messy, were long and soft. Instead of grabbing each other, pushing and pulling to get into different positions, they caressed one another carefully. 

When they came, it felt different. It was just as intense as other nights, but Lup felt complete. She was making love with the most wonderful man in existence. 

She had no idea how to tell him.

Year 20 - Barry

Barry was sitting on the sand, watching his friends splash around in the water. Magnus was pushing huge waves of water at Lup, and she was retaliating with spells that hit him harder than any physical push of water could. Taako was surfing, and Merle, Davenport, and Lucretia were casually swimming along in the water. 

Lup was laughing as she deftly maneuvered out of Magnus’ attempt to try and grab her to push her underwater. 

“Back in a minute, Maggie.” She swam to the shore, grabbed a towel, and sat down next to Barry.

“Why are you looking so glum, Barold? Why don’t you come join us?”

Barry laughed nervously. He didn’t want to tell Lup the embarrassing truth - that he couldn’t swim. He forced a smile, doing his best to appear genuine.

“I’m perfectly fine out here on the sand. Don’t worry about me, go back to Magnus.”

Lup could obviously see through his lie, but she could tell he didn’t want to be pressed. She stood up and tousled his hair.

“As you wish, lover boy. I’ll see you later tonight.” And with a wink, she ran back into the water, rejoining the rest of the group.

Barry sighed. She was utterly perfect. Things had been different the past few years. One night on the robot planet, Lup started acting differently. It confused Barry to no end. Before that night, Lup would go back to her room after they finished having sex. She said it was because he snored, but he suspected that it was because she was just there for sex. They cuddled the year that they were alone on the barren planet, but that was probably because they were the only ones there, and being together at all times made them feel less desperately isolated. That night on the robot planet was just like a night on the barren planet. After they finished, she curled up next to him and placed his arm around herself. He was able to watch her go to sleep every night. He didn’t know why she changed, and he didn’t dare ask her. He was just grateful he could spend his nights holding her. 

He looked over at her in the water and sighed. He stood up and started walking back to the ship. He needed to learn how to swim. 

Year 30 - Lup

The concert had been a success. Lup looked over at Barry as the crowd cheered and applauded. He met her eyes and smiled. She couldn’t take the silence any more. She loved him. She had loved him for thirteen years, and she still hadn’t said anything. Their relationship had evolved over time. She knew he loved her back when he looked back at her, and squeezed her hand in between bows. She needed to tell him, right now.

“Barry, do you wanna go talk somewhere for a while?”

He looked back at her and smiled.

“Yeah.”

They ran off, not caring whether or not their duet was broadcast to the world. Only one thing mattered in that moment. They finally found a private room. Barry grabbed Lup’s face and kissed her.

“Lup, that was incredible. I - I can’t even begin to say - ” 

She cut him off.

“Barry Bluejeans, I love you.” 

He paused, then he picked her up and kissed her again.

“Lup, I love you so much. Fuck, I love you so, so much.”

She smiled. Suddenly, the upcoming years didn’t seem so scary. She had the love of her life with her, for eternity.

Fair warning I am about to bitch about personal shit to vent frustrations.

Fucking hate this bullshit. I do everything I possibly can to be a great customer service agent. I explain shit, sell things as per company policy, try my best to provide what I can with the limited permissions I have, fucking dot all my i’s and cross my t’s. what do I get.

Punishment for joining in on a discussion with co-workers on our manager’s poor scheduling and trying to defend her by suggesting that it could just be inexperience as a hotel manager. The only thing I said that was truly negative and against her, was that I felt forced to find work elsewhere since I cannot live on 16 hours a week and had to talk with a second location’s management to see if I could get an extra 8 or 16 hours.

2 things happen (from what I understand):

1) Our new system is glitchy and it effected business on a day I had worked. I assumed the problem only effected the time well I was working, so I manually corrected the errors. I had informed the next shift and logged it in the communication book. Unfortunately these issues continued into the weekend and instead of talking about it or realizing that the system is bugged, our manager decided to blame everybody that was effected.

2) There were apparently customer complaints against the service agents. Since my manager wouldn’t elaborate, do to her being upset over me discussing my concerns with a couple of co-workers and frustrations on having to ask a different location for assistance, I am not even sure the complaints were directly for me or just a general customer complaint. I am experienced in hotels. Customers will complain that the floor is dirty after walking in with mud covered boots. I know there is a 50% chance someone is just trying to swindle you or complaining for the sake of complaining.

Now here is the thing, I understand she might not realize that people “vent” when upset. I was waiting for a convenient time to speak with her, if the schedule suddenly changed again, like I suddenly didn’t work for a week or was thrown on to breakfast only. Since we just finished training new agents and the old staff was returning after their leaves, I justified this month’s weird schedule to just be adjusting to these changes. So what I did was suggest to another co-worker who brought up their own concerns on the schedule, that I personally might have to talk (and did talk when they happened to have visited our location) to the next location’s management to get more hours or get a second job, as I cannot live on just 16 hours a week. Plus, since I work night or evening shift, the manager is usually gone before I even wake up to go to work. Given that I didn’t think the issue too serious, I preferred to wait for a time we could speak that wasn’t wasting both of our times.

Granted I might be a person that over shares. I have told my co-workers if they aren’t comfortable with what I talk about, to just tell me to shut up. I am open and honest with everyone, fuck you want to ask about my sex life, I’ll tell you (spoiler: I am ace and at one time had both a boyfriend and a girlfriend, my first ever boyfriend died in a car crash when I was 14). I don’t take offence, but I need to be told, since I am oblivious to social cues and don’t have the best filter. I am also a talker. I will speak up when confused or mad, but it’s always because I want an answer I can understand. I do not like people wasting my time, either and assumed they also don’t want their time wasted by me.

Of course I do know of a few excuses that could be used against me. One, is me referring customers to management (but honestly I think she forgot I don’t have permission to create blocks of rooms or change the prices to be lower than 10% off, and have to refer them.). Second, since I make absolutely sure everything vital is complete before taking my ‘brake’ at times it might look like I am doing nothing, just because every I need to do is already done (again, I don’t like wasting my time and don’t have the patience to ‘take my time’ on tasks). Thirdly, would be odor, I have struggled with overly odorous sweat glads for a while and have resorted to wearing AXE just because my natural BO will over power women’s deodorant after an hour.

Despite this though, I have done nothing to violate company policy or what HR wants from us. I am 100% open to discussion as long as it’s productive. If I am let go before I quit voluntarily, then the labour board will have to do an investigation on if I have the right to sue for any damages regarding my loss of work.

I really just hope she either starts taking responsibility and leave me alone, or try figuring out something that works for not just me, but all the agents that currently work for her.

2017 in Review

I read mdA’s year in review and wanted to use her template to reflect on my year, too. 

1 - What did you do in 2017 that you’d never done before?

Hung out with a group of friends and slept over without worrying about all the studying I’d have to do that weekend, went to a classmate’s/friend’s wedding, signed up to take Step 1 (omgomgomg), went through a messy break up, traveled to Europe by myself, rode on a train for the first time! (which actually took 6 hours instead of 4 because something was wrong with the train and they had to fix it halfway through the journey), killed a spider, read Lolita, went on a vacation for Spring Break, completed a project and wrote a research manuscript from start to finish, went to the Weeknd’s concert!  2 - Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I dont remember if I made any resolutions last year...I usually don’t. But, for this year, I am going to continue doing what I have learned to do these past few months: 

1) focus on myself more (my health, my fitness, my happiness) 

2) get rid of toxic people and distractions in my life 

3) study for and do well on boards 

4) No more social media until after boards 

3 - Did anyone close to you give birth?

No.

4 - Did anyone close to you die?

No. 

5 - What countries did you visit?

Some European countries, Mexico, Japan.

6 - What would you like to have in 2018 that you lacked in 2017?

Better, more supportive friends. I used to hang out with a group of gunners (they literally wouldnt share resources because they ‘dont want other people to do well on boards’ and didnt understand why that was upsetting to me). I distanced myself and I’ve been happier.  7 - What date from 2017 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

April 14th, went on a spontaneous quick trip to Japan mid semester and learned most of renal phys on the 15hr plane rides to and from Tokyo. Stayed at the Disney resort and had a magical time. 

8 - What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Taking care of my mental health, getting to know myself better, submitting my manuscript for publication. This year was full of ups and downs and many firsts, so I’ve learned a lot and have gained experiences that I value very much. That’s an accomplishment to me.

9 - What was your biggest failure?

I stopped running a few months ago, but I plan on getting back into it before this semester starts!  10 - Did you suffer illness or injury?

Thankfully, nothing serious.  11 - What was the best thing you bought?

I bought myself a ring and I absolutely love it! I love the way it looks on my finger and like wearing it. 

As for practical things, I bough an iPad Pro and now that’s all I use to take notes, study, etc. I don’t use paper anymore and it’s really nice to have all my material in one place.  12 - Whose behavior merited celebration?

All of the women and men who shared their stories using #MeToo. My parents for putting up with me and taking care of me when I visit, physically and mentally tired. The one student in our class who shared his struggles with suicide and depression in an effort to help others.  13 - Whose behavior made you appalled or depressed?

a lot of politicians...people trying to take away net neutrality, Trump and his tweets, the ex who told me [after we’d talked about doing residencies in the same hospital and how many children we wanted, etc.] that he wouldnt be introducing me to his parents or be able to marry me because I wasn't Egyptian and his mom wouldnt approve [Boy, bye], the mom who tried to exploit money using a bullying video.

14 - Where did most of your money go?

BOARDS. Who knew it was so expensive to schedule board exams...*le sigh* Also, a lot of money spent on resources...*le cry*

15 - What did you get really, really, really excited about?

I woke up to the first snow of the season and I could not contain myself!  16 - What song(s) will always remind you of 2017?

Pre-Rumble WrestleMania Card Predictions - Pryde

So. Here we are. The week of WWE’s Royal Rumble 2017 and it is honestly the most unpredictable Royal Rumble in recent memory. This is pretty exciting for me, so I’m going to try to give my predictions for what I expect the card for Wrestlemania XXXIII (33 / Orlando / 2017 / Sunshiny logo) to be AND a few  “arm chair” booking ideas/hopes for the card.

Seeing as Mania will be about 300 hrs long with 2 brands, the standard past-gen bandaid segments, and (fingers crossed) a Kid Rock concert… bear with me. There’s a lot to cover.

Set* matches (*Card subject to change):

Big Show vs Shaq

Shaq’s guest GM spot a long while back was the set up here. I actually enjoyed it and it made Shaq look like he could really bring it. Shaq being a surprise entrant at last year’s Mania in the Andre Battle Royal was a nice addition. Show looks like he’s been getting in great shape and we know he’s hanging up the boots soon. While it hasn’t been announced officially, Big Show has posted on social media about getting ready for the match. I’m interested.

Seth Rollins vs HHH This might be the only match they’ve seemingly held onto. It looked like they were pushing Rollins after Hunter before Rollins was sidelined and (barring any shenanigans) now he’s going to get it. Not sure I care about the match, but if it is a straight up match, it should be fine. However, I expect a stipulation added last minute because that’s what HHH Mania matches do. I wish Rollins would change his finisher.

Andre Battle Royal I’d guess the winner is Kalisto if they don’t put him in the likely Cruiserweight match. Maybe Samoa Joe.

Now. The matches they seem to be setting up:

Kevin Owens vs Chris Jericho (Universal Championship?)

I don’t know if this will be for the Universal Championship or not, but I hope so. If it happens for the title, I doubt it’ll be the main. I’m guessing the main will be

Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar

There is nothing good that can come from this except for if Strowman or anyone else comes in and wrecks them both.

Likely:

Cena vs Undertaker (WWE Championship)

Cena vs Taker is the “dream match” but I’d SO much rather see my later card. It would make sense with who they have and what they’re doing. They’re not making stars to main event Mania, so they have to rely on what’s left. Big downside is that means either Cena wins #16 on Sunday or he gets ANOTHER title shot before Mania.

IF Kenny Omega debuts, which I’m doubting personally, all bets are off I’d guess Cena vs Omega for the 3rd time where Cena gets his 2nd win.

Cruiserweight Ladder Match

Unless they need it for US or IC titles, the Ladder makes sense for the CW dudes.

Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman (No DQ or similar stipulation - US Title or Universal title) I’d guess trickery beats Braun and sets him on the warpath for the aforementioned Greenberg vs Bork match. AJ Styles vs Randy Orton Makes sense. AJ, if not champ, would go against one of the established dudes. Much like with Punk and Rollins before him, AJ can build a match and Orton can pull it off. When he’s on, he’s good.

Charlotte vs Bayley (Raw Women’s Championship) I’d guess this is where Charlotte’s PPV streak ends, but I hope not.

Becky Lynch vs Mickie James (SD Women’s Championship) I’d be bummed to see Alexa take a back seat, but unless they turn Mickie quick, this is the match I’d expect.

Sheamus/Cesaro vs The Club (Raw Tag Titles) I’d say an oddball stipulation to this, but it’ll probably just be a rematch after The Club takes the titles Baron Corbin vs (Insert token Mania big guy) I’d guess Kane. Cuz why not.

Dean Ambrose vs Dolph Ziggler (IC Championship) Because they have no idea what to do with these guys. Bray Wyatt vs Luke Harper 4 Corner/Multi-team of some sort (Smackdown Tag Title) New Day/Cass/Enzo Segment with a few Legends and/or Celebs (Rock). Though I’d be surprised if Cass and E don’t get a match

Rusev vs Sami Zayn

Rumored matches

Miz vs Daniel Bryan

Doubt it. I assumed Ziggler would be his analog, but thankfully they changed his direction. If anything, Bryan will drop Crews in his spot.

Tyler Bate vs Pete Dunne (UK Championship) While I wouldn’t hate this, I wouldn’t agree with it. Let them add UK brand show to Mania weekend like NXT.

That’s a CRAZY number of matches and obviously there’s time and things will be moved a bit, and a handful of those things will be jammed into one 10-12 man match, but with the brand split and having 9 titles that they want to actually focus on PLUS needing to fit in all the old dudes… it’s possible.

My Picks

AJ Styles vs Undertaker (WWE Championship) Probably the best possible main event for AJ who has had an amazing first year and this should be the cap. AJ being a LONG term champ is important for Smackdown as a brand.

Kevin Owens vs Goldberg or Brock Lesnar (Universal Championship) Owens and the UC NEED this match and this win to establish them as legit. They can do Owens vs Jericho with a huge focus afterward. Goldberg is the better choice.

Brock Lesnar or Goldberg vs Strowman This is a big old-school match, but while it SHOULD main event its own PPV, it won’t work if Strowman’s going to win.

Miz vs Tye Dillinger (w/ Daniel Bryan) (IC Championship) Tye Debuting and taking over Daniel’s spot as the hardest working underdog that the crowd eats up with the 10/Yes chants should be super easy and a big win. Miz needs to get the IC title back ASAP. He’s money and great to establish Dillinger as the perfect analog for Bryan, but it has to happen now.

Note: I would LOVE to see Miz win the WWE Championship and carry it for a long while to build up to Mania next year against Bryan or a worthwhile next generation star (Nakamura comes to mind)

Chris Jericho vs Rusev (US Championship) Huge step for Jericho’s impending full face turn. Rusev deserves the match.

Alexa Bliss vs Mickie James (SD Womens)

Samoa Joe vs John Cena Joe should attack Cena at the Rumble or Chamber.

Sheamus/Cesaro vs (Team that can GO) (Raw Tag Titles) I’d love to see 2 Cruisers established as a team, but New Day works. They need time. Watch those last few New Day/SC matches. Super solid stuff. I want to see Sheamus/Cesaro make the tag titles a big deal again. They need more real teams though.

American Alpha vs Breezango (SD Tag Titles) The fact that Breezango isn’t being used on TV EVERY WEEK, let alone not being the Tag Champs, is a sin. They are built for quick backstage promo entertainment and in ring they’re super solid. Alpha needs the character bits too. Ambrose vs Shane McMahon (No DQ Stipulation) They seemed to hint at this a bit back and dropped it. Unhinged Ambrose is needed.

Sami Zayn vs Roman Reigns I think these two will mesh well and tell a great story. Not sure what sets it off, but give it a worthwhile story and some time.

The Promises I Am Making (2019)

Well, 2018 is over. Uff, I feel like I can finally take a deep breath! (This is merely an illusion; the stress is coming for me NEXT WEEK, eek.) My twelve-year tradition of fifty promises continues, despite the urgh… lack of progress last year. This year, as always, I decided to carry over some of the promises that I failed to meet last year; I am going to work hard to make 2019 the year of taking care of business like a REAL adult! I have from now until January 1st, 2020, to keep these. Good luck self!

 1) Be more proactive about tracking and following up with struggling students to decrease the number of students who drop from my class when they realize they cannot pass.

2) Find a place to put in volunteer hours because uhhhh like this is actually important to my work evaluation and I definitely need something to write in that section… Yikes, this spring is my last chance to do this!! @_@

 “The Utah House” promises:

3) Install the fire escape window in the Utah house, no matter how much it might cost, because I can’t get a totally unrelated tenant in that basement without said window…

4) Buy sod to add grass to the front portion of the lawn so that it no longer looks like garbage.

5) Fix the bricks near the windowsills on the Utah house to prevent long-term damage.

6) Get a watering system for my roses at the Utah house because I think my bro is probably killing them and that’s just not cool.

7) Work on the patio at the Utah house before it just flat out falls down.

8) Paint the stairwell so that there’s no chance of anything like lead paint or asbestos being exposed.

9) Trim the backyard bushes so the neighbors don’t hate us anymore…

16) Go dolphin watching in the Gulf for real this time. Seriously, it’s $10 Yehn, you can do this.

17) Return to the Channel Islands to take better pictures. D;

18) Level all my classes to 70 in FFXIV before next expansion, please.

19) Organize and properly label all the photos on my computer so that I’m no longer desperately combing through folder and folder in blank confusion, looking for a single picture in a sea of thousands…

20) Update Home and a Half more than once? PLEASE??? The guilt I feel over this currently is crushing.

21) Complete the online American Literature class I am designing on time and with no corrections needed.

22) Earn 100% completion for Kingdom Hearts III. So excited!

23) Update my calendar with important dates—holidays, birthdays, etc.—and be productive about sending cards and well-wishes.

24) Get the garbage disposal in the Texas house fixed ASAP so I don’t have to wash the dishes by hand anymore because I absolutely hate that particular chore.

25) Finish all the books my coworkers and friends bought for me recently so I can thank them for their recommendations!

26) Actually move into my new place instead of leaving it completely undecorated and lifeless.

27) Try hard to get Creative Writing into a different area of the general ed. core so that more people will enroll in it.

28) Get caught up on my Ebird reports, even the old, old, old ones I never put in because I was slacking.

29) Throw away/return/sort all the stacks of old mail in the house (OMGGGG they’ve made me look like paper hoarder and I’m nootttt).

30) Clean up the garage before moving so that I don’t have to fight spiders to move when the time comes.

31) Find a way to boost grading productivity so that each class takes only two days to grade, maximum.

32) Go to a totally new restaurant and try their food.

33) Cancel old credit cards to make sure my credit is good before trying to buy a house (although I just checked my credit score and I’m in the great range already, so this is mostly for posterities sake).

34) Get official contracts from my tenants so I can use my rental income in my next loan calculation.

35) Talk to an HR rep about my retirement savings so that I can consolidate all my retirement accounts into one. (Man, look at all these ADULTING promises.)

36) Really finish decorating my office so it looks super cute and all my students want to visit me.

37) Not sign up for ANY more new responsibilities at work in the spring semester. This is the biggest challenge. D;

38) Migrate all the rest of my books to the new Texas house instead of leaving them in Utah… SOMEHOW.

39) Use my twitter account more often to make it worth following. I will try!!

40) Keep my hair cut nicely so I look less like a mess (than I really am).

41) Successfully find a bridesmaid dress for my friend’s wedding that matches the rest of the wedding party.

42) Make sure my skin is in good condition for the wedding so I don’t look like a disturbing ghost…

43) Complete my BNHA manga collection. Since my bro bought me a bunch of the volumes for Christmas, I might as well.

44) See a groove-billed ani. (It’s another type of bird.)

45) Respond to messages, asks, and comments more quickly. I promise I’m not ignoring people… D;

46) Lose ten pounds so that I feel more fit and comfy.

47) Pay down credit card debt by at least 1/3. Yikesssss, I really need to do this quick.

48) I will finally fucking finish that chapter 73 analysis of Noragami… I swear to god…

49) Reach 1700 followers on Tumblr. You should follow me—I’m only marginally a waste of time and space!
