#I hate JJ's husband but her whole character is about her family and kids and stuff and unfortunately her husband is part of that

As a bisexual, I really, really, dislike seeing the rise in HC posts where people take a character (usually a female character) who was married to someone of another gender for MOST of canon and go 'She's a lesbian. Fuck her husband'.
You don't have to like her husband or whatever, but did y'all forget bisexuals exist? Or do you really hate bisexual women THAT much that you need to strip away a huge part of the character (like a canon marriage) before you can ship her with another woman?
(This is even more messed up when the character is canonically bi/pan and people see her date a woman and instantly call her a lesbian now. 😒)
I've been seeing more and more of these HCs and it's so annoying. Not all sapphics are lesbians. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk

JJ eating Cheetos: so they did it to you too huh
Lila :yep, they summaries my whole complicated character to an unnecessary love triangle so that the male lead who was my best friend can have a love interest * fully sends a shot*
JJ: same but mine was kinda worse he was also my kids' godfather and it didn't even do anything or go anywhere other than confuse him it's was totally pointless none even knew about it it just made things awkward for literally no reason
Lila : wanna hear worse this whole thing blew up in front of my entire family my kids included his siblings including my husband
JJ*gasp*: no you were married to his brother
Lila: yep and it was a great love story that they ruined for no reason like I was still in love with my husband too I mean I fell in love with five for survival
JJ: totally understandable, his name is five?
Lila: stop interrupting me
JJ: sorry
Lila: anyways he genuinely fell in love with me so he got his heart broken cause I didn't choose him so I broke both of their hearts and relationship basically and yk the kicker this bullshit was never resolved we all just fucking ceased to exist
JJ: Jesus Christ you all just fucking died
Lila : nope ceased to exist it's like we were never there we never existed
JJ: fuck I feel like in owe my writers an apology , nah
In another room
Reid*holding his coffee *: so you really couldn't stay in a timeline where there was other people
Five*holding his coffee*: stop scolding me I don't even know you
Reid: ik you're stupid, like you couldn't have told anyone
Five: none of them would have understood
Reid: but Lila did why couldn't you go alone or take one of your siblings let Lila copy your power so if something happens she could get you instead of going with zero knowledge
Five: we didn't think of that we wanted to be discreet
Reid: but why it makes no sense it's completely irrational and I find hard to believe that you would do that considering last time you did it you ended up lost in an apocalypse
Five: the writers decided that I shouldn't think ig
Reid: god I hate when they do that so another character could shine
Five: nope that didn't happen
Reid: what
Five: they kinda ruined all of us and then killed us off sorry wrote us off as if we never existed
Reid: Jesus poor Diego he losses his wife and brother then gets killed off
Five: hey you're not better than me you fell in love with a married woman too
Reid: oh yes I am and I didn't fall in love with her more like old feelings resurfaced and was managed quickly I didn't cheat on anyone it just made thing a little awkward*sips his coffee "
Five: lucky asshole *sips his coffee "
Reid : eguh that's really bad coffee
Five: yeah it sucks
Reid: not worse than you tho
Five: hey!!
I just love how JJ is like super invested and Reid is like you dumbass there was literally 10 other better ways to do this 😭
I might actually make more of these with different characters this is so much fun 🦦

OMG I was afraid to say anything but literally Jeid is so horrible? The way she admits he was her first love and literally makes him her kids God father and has him dress up as him etc is so crazy to me like pls be fr
Sorry to any Jeid fans but yes I don't like it. I think most people who don't like it can sometimes fall into hating JJ territory, because they love Spencer, but I think the worst thing about Jeid is that it totally shatters parts of JJ's character motivations and arc.
She is fiercely loyal, and she loves her family, and then to insinuate that she's been in love with someone else the entire time? Why the hell would you give us the absolutely amazing season 7 series finale where she is deeply in love with her husband and perfectly content with her child, follow it up with the heart-wrenching scenes we get of her in 200, and then decide five seasons later "tee hee she was in love with Spencer the whole time!!"
Jeid is such an amazing platonic ship, and it's actually one of my favourite friendships in the show and them forcing Truth or Dare onto an otherwise really solid friendship really ruins some of it.

For the talk about your fics game: 1, 2, 4 (OC of your choice), and 8!
Ohhh, thank you so much for asking!!! I really took this opportunity to lore dump about, well, basically everyone and everything I think, and it turned out to be a very long post. And as I myself hate scrolling and scrolling through posts that I've already seen (unless it's the color of the sky), I will put it under the keep reading for the sake of brevity.
Read at your own risk.
(But thank you very much for asking, seriously, I love lore dumping so so much)
1. What story (stories?) are you writing rn that you’ll most likely publish next?
Probably In Every Stitch and Seam, which mostly follows Season Two of my BBC Merlin rewrite where Arthur gets shot back to the beginning of the first season after he dies. I'm playing with some other stories that I'd like to publish at some point, but unless I manage to write a really well-written one shot, Stitch and Seam will probably be the next one.
2. What story (stories?) are you writing rn that will most likely linger in your head for an undetermined amount of time?
All of 'em? None of 'em? It really depends on the time, ha ha! A lot of them are in the in-my-head stage. I hope one day to publish them. Maybe one day, I'll even write them!
4. Lore dump about the OCs! (Author's choice)
So, originally I was going to try to pick one. But fuck it, I made the damn game, it says plural OCs in the question, I'm just gonna go off about all of them bc that's what the game is for. Thank you for asking!! I'm just gonna go down the list of tags I originally had.
So, Mara, is, actually, my Supernatural OC. Super cringe, yes, but I love her and I have a whole story more-or-less plotted out and everything. Like this thing spans so much time. But I'm here to talk about Mara. So, omgosh, Mara Deana Winchester is Sam's kid that he has with Amelia when Dean is stuck in Purgatory after Season Seven. So, like, obviously I make every change I've ever wanted for the show, but, like, it hinges on the existence of this girl. Sam has a kid, and immediately the whole universe changes. But because Supernatural is canonically part of a multiverse, there's a universe out there with the original Supernatural plotline, but we won't get into that. (I've never lore dumped about my characters, sorry for rambling on about the story instead, ha ha!) So, anyway, Amelia doesn't want the kid and her husband comes back, so Sam takes her and him and Dean and Cas have to raise this girl. In a bunker. Like, better than what John did. That's like, the lowest of bars. And Mara really takes after Sam, but she has all these random influences and is, like, taken on hunts?? As a child?? Or left with Jody and the girls or Charlie or something, so she very much has the childhood of a Hunter, but she still sees the Bunker as, like, her permanent childhood home, which does wonders for her, I'm sure. Anyway, so she grows up and becomes a therapist, because I am convinced that the Hunters need to have, like, benefits or something. So she's a licensed therapist, but she's also, like, 6'3, built like a lumberjack, with a bunch of anti-possession tattoos and scars and shit, so the first session always goes really interestingly. There's also a side story (several, probably) where I cross over with freaking Criminal Minds (bc ofc) and Mara ends up dating JJ's now-adult son, Henry, which just means chaos at the wedding because half of Mara's family is on the Most Wanted List and the other half probably doesn't legally exist, so. Yeah, idk if that's how you talk about OCs, but there's number one down.
Okay, next up is Kirsi. She is one of my two main Star Wars OCs. She's a Rexsoka kid, it's true, yeah, born about two or so years after the rise of the Empire, yeah, yeah. So Kirsi is Togrutan, like Ahsoka, but she looks exactly like Rex (and consequently like a bajillion other soldiers in the universe, funny how that works) and she isn't Force-sensitive. And since I made them before Bad Batch, I'm sticking with the reason that Rex and co. is retired is because he's staying behind to raise the kids (yes, kids, I'll get to that later), while Ahsoka goes around doing Ahsoka things (though she also picks them up and takes them for, like, half the year, because I couldn't bear the thought of Ahsoka not playing a part in their lives). So, anyway, when Ezra goes to pick up Rex, Kirsi and her sister (the next OC) go along with them, but as, like, equally side characters. Kirsi eventually goes off to properly join the Rebellion and shit and ends up running her own ship called Judgement Day.
Kirsi's older sister, Aay'han, is Force-sensitive. She's human, looks like Ahsoka, and is basically Ahsoka's padawan for all intents and purposes. Although, after her, Kirsi, and Rex end up in the same orbit as the Ghost crew, Aay'han does some training with Kanan and Ezra just bc Ahsoka is gone so often. But while Kirsi officially joins the Rebellion, Aay'han remains sort of anonymous. Like, she helps out, but she never has to take orders. She does, however, join the crew of the Judgement Day once that becomes a thing. (I guess she's more of a side OC as of right now, but it felt right to give her her own blurb)
Okay, okay, so my Sole Survivors I'm gonna do together, because I believe it's short. Ish. Nate and Nora are my take on Fallout 4's sole survivors, except, y'know, they both survive. I stick with the Army-Nate and Lawyer-Nora narrative, but Nate was a medic/doctor/nurse-person (I haven't solidified it yet, but he does the Medicine) and Nora's been diagnosed with ASPD, so she's actually one of the very, very few people that is both a sociopath and a psychopath! I basically assigned certain SPECIAL characteristics and the various paths to either Nate or Nora, so Nora's really good at, say, lockpicking and hacking from her misspent youth, while Nate has crazy good endurance and probably ends up as a ghoul at some point so he can deal with the radiation spots! They're both, like, eerily okay with murder and are on a mission to find Shaun. Nate just keeps adopting ppl on the way. And Nora's low-empathy, but she can still reason and shit, so she's not, like, a villain or anything. But yeah, power couple Nate & Nora. :)
Like Nate and Nora, I'm just gonna do the crew of Judgement Day all as one. The Judgement Day is the same ship that Kirsi pilots. Her co-pilot is Miikka, who's ginger, flies planes, and ends up with Kirsi. Their navigator is Solene (goes by Lena), a bubbly purple Twilek who really loves the stars and is the cinnamon roll of the ship (do ppl even still use that terminology anymore??). Their resident mechanic is a Chiss named Kres'ave'kleon (...Savek, he goes by Savek), who desperately needs an attitude check but is, unfortunately, very good with ships and doesn't really care that they're running Rebellion missions. They also have a live-in hacker who is their primary contact with the black market; she's a Mirialan who goes by Kalea and is the only one who gets their own room on the ship. Finally, they also have slicer, a human cyborg ex-smuggler from back in the war named Gene. Kalea gets them in, but Gene is the one that deals with sending codes and transmissions and shit to the Rebellion.
So, that was a lot. But I only mostly regret typing it all out!
8. Fic that is near and dear to your heart?
Oh goodness, where do I start? Though I've only published a few, all of the ones I write occupy a little place in my heart. But as the longest fic I've ever written, one of the very few I've finished, and part of the handful that have made it onto Ao3... Love the Bright Sword. As of right now it's definitely one of my better, if not best, written pieces, and everything in Rewind I really feel is some of my best quality writing. I've definitely sunk a few years of my life into this fic, just sort of writing on and off, and I remember staying up late to rewatch episodes and studiously take down how dialogue is said or how a scene is played out, just over and over again. I still do, when I come across an episode I need to write out, but, oh, those were some days. That was my first time getting comments on a fic, real long comments, and I took every chance I could to talk about how a scene was written, or how much I love a certain character, or what I learned while researching, or analysis, so much analysis on my own damn fic. (Hell, I still do it when I can, ha ha!) I consider myself so lucky to have landed with the audience that I have, because it really made the experience so much better than I ever could have imagined.
Okay, so, maybe not what you were expecting, op, but than you anyway!! I really appreciated the opportunity to go off like this!! :)
Kindly,
The Void

izzie’s favorite movies and tv shows of 2020 (aka the worst year ever)
another year, another movie and tv show review. this year has, to put it simply, sucked. 2020 has been so terribly awful that sometimes the only light you can see are the absolute bangers of movies and tv shows that came out this year. with that being said, some of the movies and tv shows didn't come out in 2020. if the are mentioned in this post it is because they either: had a season come out this year, i found them this year, or they became popular this year.
SPOILERS: it may not come as a surprise but just in case you didn't realize, there will be many spoilers ahead, read at your own risk.
tw // death, suicide, drug use, mild adult language. if any of these things might trigger you, i strongly urge you not to read this post.
there is no specific order of these shows and movies, i'm just writing as they come to mind. if you enjoy any of these movies or tv shows, or if you have any suggestions for me, please let me know!
TV SHOWS
1) Santa Clarita Diet
Okay, so I know this show doesn't have anything to do with 2020. But, I found this show in 2020. I put it off for a while, thinking it wasn't my style of a show, but boy was I wrong. I loved this show. Sheila Hammond (Drew Barrymore) is a normal suburban wife and mom. She is a real estate agent with her husband Joel (Timothy Olyphant). She struggles with the fact that she isn't very adventurous. This all changes when she throws up an insane amount at a house showing. She then finds herself craving adventure, and craving human flesh. Yeah, she's a zombie. Not only is this show super hilarious, but it also shows the growth that they have with their characters and their family. I'm also team Abby (Liv Hewson) and Eric (Skyler Gisondo).
Tumblr media
2) Outer Banks
So, I'm from NC. And, watching this show at first bothered me because I can very obviously tell this show isn't actually filmed in the obx, and the geography isn't exact, but once I got past that, I loved it. John B (Chase Stokes) is a teenager that lives in the poor side of the outer banks. He has a friend group called the Pogues which consists of JJ (Rudy Pankow), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and Kie (Madison Bailey). They absolutely hate the Kooks, which are the rich kids. A while after John B's dad gets lost at sea, presumed dead, the group finds some evidence that may solve the mystery, and make them rich. In the process, John B falls in love with a Kook names Sarah (Madelyn Cline) whose father Ward (Charles Esten) may have a little more to do with the mystery than he let on. Through friendship, murder, and secrets, the gang may just figure out what happened to John B's dad.
Tumblr media
3) Love, Victor
Alright. I loved loved loved Love, Simon. I also really loved the book "Simon vs. the Homosapien Agenda." So, when I heard about this show, I was so excited. Victor (Michael Cimino) is a teenage boy that moved to Creekwood with his family. He meets Felix (Anthony Turpel) who lives in his building. He also meets Mia (Rachel Hilson) and they begin dating. But, he also meets Benji (George Sear). While trying to get used to a new school, new friends, and a new relationship, Victor finds himself questioning his sexuality. With the help of Simon (Nick Robinson) and his friends, Victor finds it in himself to finally come out, and he admits his feelings, for Benji. This is such a good show, but I was so upset when season 1 ended on a cliff-hanger.
Tumblr media
4) The Haunting of Bly Manor
The sequel to The Haunting of Hill House. Now listen, haunting of hill house was an absolute banger. When I saw that Bly came out I nearly died. I was so excited. But, I was alone in my apartment and also a lil bitch. So, I had to wait a week until I was home with my family to watch it. Now, I was so excited to be scared, and there were a few jump scares and ominous moments, but this season was more centered around the story line of Dani Clayton (Victoria Pedretti) and her new life in a foreign country. When seeing an ad for a live in job as an au pair. When she gets there, she meets the two young children she’ll be looking out for and the other workers of the house, including the gardener, Jamie (Amelia Eve). Throughout her stay at Bly she begins to notice weird behaviors from both children and by the end of the series she sacrifices herself for the children. Sadly, this story is being told by Jamie who Dani had fallen in love with during her stay at Bly. Now I was somewhat upset about the lack of horror, but was still very intrigued and drawn in by this series.
Tumblr media
5) Julie and the Phantoms
Alright, at first I was not gonna watch this show. I thought it looked a little too young and childish for me, but everyone was talking about it on twitter so I had to. I. Love. This. Show. This show centers around Julie (Madison Reyes). Julie is a teenage girl who, sadly, lost her mother. The one major thing she shared with her mom, was their love for music. Since her mothers passing, she gave up music. This is until, dead musicians from the 90′s show up in her garage. Luke (Charlie Gillespie), Alex (Owen Joyner), and Reggie (Jeremy Shada) all tragically passed away in the 90′s after eating bad street hotdogs. When Julie finds their CD in her garage, she decides to play it and they come back in ghost form. But, only she can see them. With their help, she finds her confidence to play music again. Also, she has to find away for them to stay because they’re slowly disappearing.
Tumblr media
6) Derry Girls
Bitch. I love this show. And yeah it didn’t come out in 2020. Shut up. I found this show recently after watching the cast on the holiday special of the Great British Baking Show. I loved the actors so I had to watch the show. This show focuses on Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson) a 16 year old girl that lives in Derry, Northern Ireland in the 90′s. Alongside her is her cousin Orla (Louisa Harland), her two friends Clare (Nicola Coughlan) and Michelle (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell), and Michelle’s English cousin James (Dylan Llewellyn). During these years, a lot of people in Ireland struggled, especially because it was during wartime. Even thought this show isn’t focused heavily around the war, it’s amazing to see these teens live a fulfilling life while struggling with the state of their country, and the lack of money that their families have.
Tumblr media
7) Elite
HA. This show did have a season in 2020 so leave me alone. But bro, I love this show. At first, I didn’t watch it because I thought I could only watch the dubbed version in English, which I hate. I hate dubbed shows they look so weird. But, once I found out I could watch this show in Spanish, I fell in love. But, sadly, theres too damn much to talk about in one little post. It’s crazy. But basically it just follows the lives of teens in high school that are trying to survive. And no, not in the “I’m surviving high school,” sense. No, people be getting murdered.
Tumblr media
MOVIES (tbh i didn’t find a lot of movies good this year lmk which movies u liked this year and maybe i’ll like them!)
1) All the Bright Places
After the death of her sister, Violet (Elle Fanning) is devastated. She closes herself off, and has her parents get her out of doing school work that involves working with others. But, as time goes on, they realize she may need to start to move on. Violet then meets Finch (Justice Smith) who is enamored by Violet. He suggests they do a project together. While finding and visiting some of the smallest wonders of their state, they begin to fall for each other. While you are focusing on Violet and her mental health, you tend to miss some of the signs that Finch’s mental health isn’t great either, but by the time you do, it could be too late.
Tumblr media
2) Dangerous Lies
Hmm. This was weird for me. I had only ever seen Camila Mendes in Riverdale, and honestly, not a fan. So, Katie (Camila Mendes) and her husband Adam (Jessie T. Usher) are struggling with money. Katie decides to take a job working for an elderly man, and eventually gets her husband hired there as well. Unfortunately, he dies, but for some odd reason, leaves the house and all of his fortune, to Katie. As they get comfortable in the house, they begin to uncover some very weird and dangerous lies.
Tumblr media
3) The Devil All the Time
Ok. Iconic. You got so many hot men in this movie. Bill Skarsgård, Sebastian Stan, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson. C’mon now. That’s crazy. But, this story is so long and in depth that I wouldn’t even know where to begin. This movie is a bit disturbing. It involves murder, sexual assault, killing of animals, and so much more so if that’s an issue for you please do not watch this movie. It was also quite long, but it was still good.
Tumblr media
4) After We Collided
Okay just listen. I was that teenager. I read wattpad stories and was, embarrassingly, addicted to After. This was not a great movie per say, but it was After. This is a sequel to the movie After. This movie centers around Tessa (Josephine Langford) and her recovery after her breakup with Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin). Theres sex, alcohol, bad acting. The whole nine-yards. But c’mon, they’re so cute together.
Tumblr media
5) To All the Boys p.s. I Still Love You
Okay it was a good movie. I enjoyed it. This movie focuses on Lara Jean (Lana Condor) and her boyfriend Peter (Noah Centineo) and their relationship post the first movie. But of course relationships aren’t super steady, and John Ambrose McClaren (Jordan Fisher) shows up. Yeah, John Ambrose, from her letter. They become closer and Lara Jean has to decide who she wants to be with. Spoiler, it’s Peter. BOOOOOOO justice for John Ambrose McClaren, he deserved better.

A ramble about JJ and Reid
Tumblr media
so let’s start with making something clear; I actually liked jj and reid in a romantic light- in season one.
when I first watched the show I thought okay okay I can see where this is going, they’re hella cute.
especially with the whole “she’s the only person who calls me spence” and the redskins game.
but then the whole plotline was dropped and wasn’t picked back up again.
and then jj ends up engaged and pregnant with wills baby. and despite the fact some people dislike him, I actually really like will.
i think he was a good husband and an even better father. he was always there for jj (for example in 12x02 ‘sick day’) being the caring husband she needed.
the idea of jj and reid as anything other than best friends, so close they consider one another family, isn’t brought up again until season 14.
this includes the whole “the lady has a tell” scene during the game at the round table in 14x15, as well as jj telling prentiss about what really happened at the redskins game (finally!!)
i think whilst some lines over those 14 seasons could be interpreted as romantic, (reid telling jj she looked beautiful after giving birth to henry, him saying “they can’t just take you away” in 6x02, jj talking to rossi about how scared she was after reid got shot in 9x24) mostly it can be chalked up to best friends who depend on one another, who need one another, and who undoubtedly love one another, the way family loves each other.
and i understand why jj told reid. it was a life or death situation, and the unsub wasn’t going to let his guard down for anything less. her love confession was what got them out of that situation alive. and the confession itself I thought was sweet, and the way reid looked at her after she said it was really cute.
however.
what made me dislike the storyline was what followed after. the awkward chat at the bar at rossi’s wedding, and then that part in 15x01 where she stumbled and he caught her?
nothing over the last 14 seasons had ever made me think that there was anything but a platonic love between these two. reid never seemed jealous or envious over jj and will’s relationship. not at their wedding, not when their sons were born or when he found out she was pregnant. reid was only ever happy for jj, and jj was the same.
the storyline seemed so forced, and was ultimately too much too late. if they were going to introduce jj and reid as a romantic couple, they should’ve done so before she got married to will. the fact that she was married with two children, to whom reid is the godfather of, ruined any chance of me liking the jj and reid plot.
although I would like to point out that the scene in the hospital in 15x02 after jj was shot was very sweet, and ended the storyline pretty nicely, (with jj saying she did love reid, but ultimately would always chose her family)
so while it all seemed a bit of a mess, it wasn’t completely awful.
though the thing that really pissed me off about this whole storyline was one line that reid said in 15x02 when he was visiting his mother.
“so you think I’ll always be waiting for a life with jj?”
that’s not a direct quote but it was something alone those lines.
I’ve never really understood this line.
because they made it seem like reid has been pining after jj for years; which just isn’t the case.
sure, over the 6 months following jj’s confession where the two didn’t speak much, I’m sure there was some pining involved on Spencer’s part.
but he hadn’t been waiting for her for years.
i’ll back this up by bringing up maeve.
he wasn’t pining for jj, because he fell in love with maeve. and I know people have differentiating opinions on maeve, but as an audience we could see how much he loved her.
if maeve had lived, chances are they’d still be together.
another thing I’ll use to back this up; was there really any part of reid that thought jj would leave will or leave her kids to be with him?
i can understand that her confession perhaps gave him a sense of hope. but jj was never going to leave her family to persue something that might’ve been. and reid had to have known that.
that said, i liked how it was jj who gave reid the final push in 15x04 to find max, and persue their relationship. that seemed like a good way to put that storyline to rest.
in conclusion: i don’t hate jj and reid, and if you ship them you have my full respect. I just don’t think the plot was executed particularly well, and was too late in the show to have much significance to the characters. if they’d done this storyline around season 5, I think I would’ve loved it. by season 14, everything was too complex for her to suddenly spill that she’s loved him all this time.
so whilst I think jj and reid could’ve made a good couple, I’m glad they didn’t end up together. because as a viewer I valued their friendship and family bond, and enjoyed watching it grow throughout the seasons.
anyways, let me know what you think ;)

okay I DEFINITELY want to see you rank your favorite BAU characters
oh boy oh boy oh boy i’m TOAST--
1.) Emily Prentiss: This woman was my gay awakening and I’m still madly in love with her. All of my original works when I was in middle school featured a character who was basically Emily Prentiss under a different name, and she still is easily in my second favorite fictional character of all time.
2.) Spencer Reid: Spencer was the first character I ever saw on screen who loved learning as much as I did and made me realize there’s no shame in being intelligent or in craving knowledge. I’ve been compared to Spencer since my family first started watching the show when I was a kid, and we share a name, so that’s that.
3.) Aaron Hotchner: I projected all of my insecurities onto Hotch when I was a kid. When I watched his relationship with Haley fall apart on screen, I felt that in my very bones. I cried with him upon her death and raised Jack with him and even though I was long out of the fandom when TG was fired, I was still devastated to hear that he was being forced to leave. His ship with Reid was the first gay ship I ever connected to, and together, they were the first characters to ever teach me that people are gay and it’s okay. The one thing I do dislike about Hotch is how he’s implied to be wickedly intelligent, but it never gets, like, followed through with? The implication that he graduated law school at nineteen or twenty asserts that this man graduated high school when he was sixteen or younger, that he sped through undergrad and was able to get accepted into one of the most prestigious law schools in the country and graduated early and was an incredibly successful lawyer and prosecutor. He worked personal security, SWAT, he did a stent in Seattle, before he became leader of the BAU at twenty-seven years old. Hotch is, in all likelihood, a child prodigy of his own right, and it never gets mentioned because Spencer’s academic accomplishments are more impressive (and I could take this space to do a whole character study on why I think Hotch stopped his pursuit of academia, but I won’t waste my own time, lol).
4.) Elle Greenaway/Alex Blake: I love both of these ladies so I had to include them. Elle was done dirty by the canon and I adored her work in season one and the unique sensitivity she brought to the field when the BAU was still, as one unsub described it, “a boy’s club.” Alex took a little longer to grow on me (mostly because I was super bitter about Emily being gone that I didn’t want to like her), but the relationship she nurtured with Spencer was like no other, and her submitting her resignation to him instead of her direct superior gets me in the feels every time I watch it.
5.) Erin Strauss: Strauss is another character done wrong by the canon, and I’m so furious and bitter for her still. I loved watching her grow from a stern politician into someone who genuinely cared about the BAU as part of her family and would do anything to protect them. It was true character development that she went from trying to come for Hotch’s job in season two to deliberately fabricating paperwork to try to catch the Replicator in season eight, the latter which she did without informing anyone because she knew it could put them in danger. Watching her grow close to the team, watching Alex forgive her for her transgressions and become bonded with Rossi and Hotch, I really thought we were going to have an awesome thing going in later seasons, and I was devastated when I saw that it was all poorly written build up just so the writers could snatch the rug out from under us when they killed her off. She gave her life to protect the BAU and I’m going to work to redeem her character in my pieces. (This is an Erin Strauss AND Haley Hotchner defense blog, leave my ladies alone.)
6.) Dave Rossi: I sometimes take issue with Rossi’s character because he can be so damn arrogant and in early seasons seems to think he’s God’s gift to profiling, but I’m so fond of him for his nurturing relationship with the other characters. He doesn’t believe himself to have any family (of course we find out later he has a daughter, but besides that) so he takes it upon himself to make himself the father of the team. We see this dynamic with Emily and Spencer the most, with Morgan to some degree, with Ashley Seaver a lot (one of the only things I loved about Seaver’s presence in S6), and even with Jack’s little league team. Rossi who will do anything and everything for his team because those are his kids, dammit.
7.) Penelope Garcia: Penelope is my little ray of sunshine! I love sweet and special headcanons about her and how she keeps up with the team and brings joy to their lives. We share a love for cats, and her origin story always makes me chuckle, especially the opening scene where she says, “I am a psychopath,” and Hotch says, “No, you’re not.” Her relationship with Morgan brings me joy, though I’m still frustrated with the canon for not following through on that and making it “just talk.” I also disliked how canon handled her relationship with Kevin. I love Penelope as a character, but there were some moments that I thought were not written very well for her which is why she isn’t higher up on the list.
8.) Jason Gideon: I know it’s popular to drag Gideon in this fandom, but I like him a lot, and I think his downfall played into the team very well in the end when it led to Rossi’s joining the team. He had some of my favorite moments, especially when he chose to save the school children rather than apprehend Frank (I like to imagine what the other characters would have done in his shoes if Frank had fixated on them instead) and when he saved Billie Copeland while everyone else was prepared to throw in the towel. I like his dynamic with the team and how they (other than Spencer) lose faith in him from the pilot and then gain it back slowly. I enjoy how he interacts with Spencer and teaches him things on screen. I do take issue with his allowing Spencer to view him as a father figure when he knows that that is what Spencer desperately needs and I think Gideon, as compassionate as he is, can be unintentionally manipulative and quite harmful. Still, I think he’s a very intriguing character and I regret we didn’t get more of him.
9.) JJ: It’s not that I dislike JJ actively (though if you had asked me ten years ago, I probably would’ve said I did). I find JJ’s character incredibly difficult to relate to because, much like I mentioned with Penelope above, she is a victim of bad writing. Unlike Penelope, JJ’s bad writing is damn near ubiquitous from the time Henry is born until the end of the show. She can’t be in a scene with a victim or a family member without bringing up her family, and every time she shows her actual personality, it gets followed up with, “I’m also a mom!” I don’t relate to women whose entire lives revolve around their children, so finding any common ground with me and JJ is extraordinarily difficult. More than that, I abhor her relationship with Will and how Will was allowed to treat her so incredibly poorly and not only does the fandom worship him and never call him out--the writers acted like JJ was in the wrong. It drives me absolutely insane that Will and Haley treated their partners in the exact same way, their character arcs line up almost perfectly, but Will winds up happily married to JJ with two kids and Haley gets to bleed out on the floor of her own home while her husband clutches her dead body and weeps. This storyline is just part of the misogyny in the Criminal Minds canon, and though I like JJ, I have a hard time seeing past all of it to form a good bond with her. Fanon JJ > Canon JJ.
10.) Derek Morgan: Derek is a character who I think had a lot of wasted potential. He’s the expert on obsessional crimes--never mentioned again. He’s the expert on explosives--mentioned two or three times. Chicago PD? We never get any information as to how he went from PD to FBI. Derek is such a wildly intelligent man, we know that, but much like Hotch, his intelligent gets forgotten in exchange for Spencer to exposit at random, except his is even more pronounced than Hotch’s. After the first few seasons, the writers just treated him like the brawn of the BAU with no other expertise or presence, and I hate that for him--it was such a criminal injustice against his character. Unlike JJ, I do love Derek (my feelings for JJ are generally neutral leaning toward positive--I adore Derek Morgan) but the writers did him so dirty. I don’t like his relationship with Savannah at all. As a CSA survivor, his whole CSA storyline generally bugs the hell out of me because it only gets mentioned when the writers want to go boohoo Derek has trust issues or have an excuse to say “hurrdurr buff guy hates pedophiles” and he’s never shown having any meaningful struggle with his trauma (can be said of most of the trauma in the show) or having any character development (he’s often criticized for not trusting the team as much as he should but he never grows from it). Derek is a character I’m very protective of, but as much as I love his relationships with Spencer, Penelope, and Emily, I just can’t defend the ways the writers let him down so grievously.

Criminal Minds Fic Part Three
| PART 1 | PART 2 | PART 3 |
Word Count: 2.7k
Warnings: character death, canon-typical violence, mental instability (I’m reluctant to name a specific disorder or condition)
Notes: cross-posted on Ao3, and this was my first whumpfic in this fandom so forgive me if it sucks. this is canon-compliant until after 12.01 The Crimson King
“What do I regret? I regret that we just took it as it was, that we didn’t look harder.”
Rossi thought about how he ended up in this situation, bulletproof vest on as he faced the one person he never expected to be at the other end of his gun, that he might have to take down.
He met the kid nearly twenty years ago on the Womb Raider case and immediately recognized raw potential when the kid told him about what he gathered from the dumpsite. They kept in contact even after Rossi went back to Quantico, and he spent the next year trying to get him to apply to become a profiler. The kid did eventually join them in Quantico, and he quickly proved to be a quick study with an incredible intuitive ability.
He ended up retiring a few months after the kid joined, but he kept in contact and they met for dinner a few times. While he wrote books, the kid became unit chief, all the while expanding the BAU to involve more than just a few profilers in a cramped cave that had been their office.
When he rejoined the team, he watched as the kid—he’ll always be ‘the kid’ to him, no matter how good his glare got over the years—struggled to reconcile the failure of his marriage and his own feelings of being a failure as a father.
He watched as the kid obsessively hunted the Boston Reaper, turned to self-blame when seven people were found shot dead in a bus, as the kid realized the killer was in front of them the whole time, as he reacted to the news of Foyet’s escape.
He worried as the kid didn’t turn up when called, as they found him in the hospital after getting stabbed nine times, as his family were put into protective custody, as he walked into a confrontation unarmed and managed to save a child the day he returned from medical leave.
He watched as the kid obsessed and worked himself to the bone over the Reaper, as he stepped down and put Morgan in charge, as the team raced to find Foyet before he could get to the kid’s family.
He watched as he found the kid savagely hitting a dead body, as he found him later clinging onto the body of the woman he had loved, as the kid turned into a shell of himself while trying to be a good father for his son.
He watched as the kid tried to remain the unwavering pillar of strength for the team, as he was sent to the other side of the world away from his family for half a year, as he came back from Pakistan looking much too thin for a man his size and faced a wall of anger and betrayal.
He watched as the kid slowly found love again, as he tried to help Reid get through what he himself went through just over two years ago, as he tried to help his estranged brother get out of a mess of drugs and spikings.
He watched as the kid collapsed on the conference room floor and had to be rushed to the hospital, as George Foyet managed to kill him twice as he flatlined in the ambulance and in the operating room.
He watched as the kid tried to help solve Gideon’s murder, as he ended things with his new love.
He watched as the kid ended up on the other end of a serial killer’s obsession, as he hallucinated the whole team getting killed in front of him, as he nearly shot and killed Reid as he came in through the door.
He watched as the kid struggled to hide his terrors, as he tried to eliminate the threat against two of his teammates, as he tried to stop Morgan from doing what he had done six years ago in a frenzy that only resulted in the love of his life getting killed, as he was arrested at gunpoint in front of his son.
He watched as the kid tried not to let seeing the victim with his name carved into her forehead get to him, as he tried not to go out of his mind in worry about his son while he was stuck in a snowstorm, as he tried to keep everything inside in the months that followed, as he went through his daily life without really living.
Now, a memory of a conversation he had with Gideon rose to the forefront of his mind. Rossi hadn’t questioned it then, but now he wondered if Gideon saw this outcome, all those years ago.
He wondered if Gideon saw this when the kid came in all those years ago, absolutely smitten with his wife and yet hiding darkness deep inside him, when the kid easily slipped in and out of the minds of the worst humanity has to offer.
A year ago, just a day after Hotch was admitted into the hospital after being subjected to whatever torture Peter Lewis managed came up with, Prentiss had returned to the BAU. Hotch was going to be on leave for quite some time, given the nature of the drugs he had inhaled and what had happened when the team rescued him.
He remembered confessing his worries to her, that Hotch wouldn’t make it through to the other side with this one, that Hotch’s too-brilliant mind (brilliant not in the way that Reid was, but in the way that a prosecutor turned SWAT turned profiler’s brain was) would figure out a way to end it all, even though he was on suicide watch.
He remembered one early morning, a few weeks after Hotch had been discharged, when Prentiss was suddenly called into a meeting with the Director. He remembered seeing her sprinting back into the office, abandoning all professionalism as she stormed into the office next to his.
He remembered freezing at the doorway. It was bare of any signs of the previous owner: the heavy law books, the pictures, the awards, the small mementos from the team—they were all gone.
He missed the others’ reactions as they read the last words the—now former—unit chief left for them as he left the office and drove to Hotch’s apartment, only to find it completely bare with an envelope left on the door with Rossi’s name on it.
He remembered the days that followed, as Garcia and Reid desperately tried to search for the man who had completely dropped off the face of the earth, as Prentiss tried to fill Hotch’s shoes for the team.
He remembered JJ asking him about Jack and the pure, unfettered sadness that he let show on his face.
He remembered the horror saw in the others when he quietly told them that the ten-year-old had collapsed at school six months ago, soon after the DOJ fiasco, while Hotch was stuck in a blizzard in the middle of a case in Colorado, that Hotch didn’t make it to the hospital in time to see Jack awake one more time.
That Jack’s heart gave out on him while he was breaking every speed limit while driving Hotch to the hospital.
That Hotch was too late, just like he was too late with Haley seven years ago.
That Hotch spent the last six months hiding his grief and desolation, throwing himself entirely into work and doing the bare minimum in regards to his health.
That after a man, the husband of a murdered victim and father of a child who died of cancer just a few days later, committed suicide, he had forced Hotch to live at his place for two weeks so he could make sure the still-grieving father would wake up every day, alive and breathing.
He remembered hating that the straw that broke the camel’s back was of the Mr. Scratch nature.
He remembered wondering, not for the first time, how damaged affected Hotch’s psyche was.
Today, nine months to the day Hotch resigned from the bureau, he got his answer: incredibly damaged.
Rossi thought back to the profile they had given the Boston PD.
~~~
“The man we’re looking for is in his mid 30s to mid 40s and exhibits traits of both an organized and disorganized killer,” Rossi started, looking out into the Boston PD bullpen. “It is also highly likely that he fathered a son who is around 4-5 years old. He has recently suffered a personal tragedy, likely one that involved losing his son and wife in a way he feels responsible for.”
“The crime scenes itself demonstrate a high level of intelligence and control, but that control is shattered when it comes to the men,” JJ added. “We tracked their last movements, and it seems that these men all frequented BDSM clubs.” Everyone in the room got the unsaid message: the men were cheating on the wives.
“He may be using the men’s infidelity as justification for his actions,” she finished the thought.
“When we talked to the children, they said they remembered the unsub being very angry at the fathers,” Luke picked up from where Tara left off. “This, in addition to the level of overkill he exhibited and the smashed mirrors at every house, may be a manifestation of the unsub’s own self-hatred and of his desire to make others feel his pain and guilt.”
“The children also said that the unsub was incredibly nice to them and the wife and that he apologized before he knocked the kids out,” Reid interjected from where he was sitting at the side of the room. “This man has a fractured psyche: he’s able to exhibit care and consideration one moment, shoot a person in three vital regions the next, and then destroy a face post-mortem in a fit of angry self loathing. This will show in his day to day life.”
“We’d like for your officers to canvas bars and clubs in the area,” Prentiss instructed, “ and ask the workers if they know anyone who may fit the profile: again, male, 30s to 40s, may have recently suffered a tragedy, and may be acting erratically—asked for time off, mood swings, anything out of the ordinary.”
~~~
They had gotten it completely right, but, looking at the man playing with the child in front of him, Rossi still felt like they had completely missed the mark.
“Let the kid go,” Rossi ordered quietly.
“Dave, why are you calling him that?” came the quiet baritone, the dearly-missed voice inciting within Rossi a strange rush of familiarity and fear. “You know his name.”
It can’t be the kid’s actual name that he wants, look at the body language, it’s so protective. So what—Rossi briefly closed his eyes as a flash of grief overtook him.
“Hotch, please,” he finally said, placing his gun away and slowly moving around the man so that he could see the child. “Let Jack go, he doesn’t need to see this.”
That got a reaction out of the man, who looked up and shocked Rossi with the sheer depth of broken protectiveness that was in his expression. “He needs me,” Hotch insisted, his next words sending a bolt of shock through Rossi’s system. “He just lost his mother.”
Rossi kneeled down cautiously, mind racing. “Hotch, do you know what day it is?”
Hotch sent him a confused look. “It was Haley’s funeral yesterday,” he answered, breath hitching at the end as he looked away. His eyes locked onto the ballistics vest Rossi was wearing, noticing it for the first time. “Why are you wearing a ballistics vest? Is everything alright?”
Rossi’s eyes began to burn as he realized what was going on. “Hold on, I’m going to go get something, and then I’ll explain everything, alright?” he said, standing up and feeling relief at the responding nod. He quickly walked back into the living room where the others were waiting, only stopping to tell them to stay there before grabbing the case file they had brought with them.
“Come here,” he beckoned Hotch over, placing the file on the desk in front of the window in the sparsely decorated bedroom.
Hotch left the child on the ground and walked over, still confused. “A case?” he asked absently as he flipped through the reports with a focus that hadn’t been since eighteen months ago, when he was still with the bureau, before that fateful day.
Unseen, Rossi went to the child and quickly ushered him out of the bedroom, making sure that he got to one of the others before going back inside, making it back to Hotch before he looked up from the file.
“What do you make of it?” Rossi indicated the folder, tone even as he successfully hid the turmoil within. He watched with a pang as Hotch easily slipped back into old habits, verbalizing his observations and yet remaining utterly oblivious to the significance they hold to him.
Hotch paused, looking around. “Where’s Jack?” he asked Rossi, panic seeping into his voice when he realized the child was gone. He backed away from Rossi, who had stepped carefully towards him, hands up placatingly. “Dave, what’s going on? Where’s Jack?”
The situation was all too painfully familiar.
“Hotch, you know that isn’t Jack,” Rossi said carefully. “His name is Charlie Summers. Yesterday wasn’t Haley’s funeral. It’s November 2020, and you’re in Boston, not in Virginia.”
“What are you talking about?” Hotch looked at him as if he were crazy.
Rossi pressed forward. “Do you remember what happened eighteen months ago, when you were taken by Peter Lewis?” he asked as Hotch froze in his place. “He had you for a day. He had taken you to your childhood home in Manassas, do you remember that? He drugged and tortured you. We found you just in time, but you almost killed yourself.”
He watched as blood leached out of the man’s face, as he started rapidly shaking his head. “You were discharged from the hospital a week later,” Rossi pushed, hating every second that passed while he tried to pull Hotch out of the delusion. “And while you were still on medical leave, you sent in your resignation and asked that Emily Prentiss, who had come back while you were in the hospital—”
“Take my place as unit chief,” Hotch finished in a whisper, staring at the floor and shaking like a leaf. Rossi rushed forward, flashing back to the day Hotch got that devastating phone call as he caught the man and lowered him to the ground—holding and comforting him, despite the circumstances, just as he had done back in that hotel room.
A few minutes passed, filled with harsh breathing as reality set in.
“Why?” Rossi finally asked the once stoic and unmovable unit chief, now reduced to just another unsub—only he wasn’t just another unsub. He was the man who held the elite profiling team together as they went through hell and back, the man who had reignited Rossi’s dormant paternal instincts.
He wondered if it had been a good idea to ask that question when Hotch remained silent, placing his head between his knees and still shaking as reality continued to seep back in.
“His voice,” Hotch finally muttered, “He wouldn’t stop. Taunting, laughing, talking, talking about how people are ungrateful and should be taught to be thankful for what they have that the children don’t deserve—” he broke off with a whimper covering his ears with his hands.
“Hotch?” He didn’t answer, even as Rossi forcefully brought his head back up. His eyes were squeezed shut and he had bit deep into his lip, drawing blood. “Aaron,” Rossi tried, raising his voice only to get knocked onto his back when the aforementioned man reflexively shoved him away, causing him to hit the bed then fall to the ground.
Hearing the crash, the team fell back onto instincts and rushed into the bedroom with their guns out and ready, only to see Rossi staring helplessly at the once-proud man curling into himself in the corner and letting out painful, guttural cries as the last pieces of his mind finally shattered under the weight of the demons he spent his entire life fighting.

A Place To Call Home: Home
Tumblr media
Summary: The reader stops by her parents place unannounced looking for a few things and delivers some news that will change their family forever...
Masterlist
Pairing: Jensen x foster daughter!reader
Word Count: 7,500ish
Warnings: language
A/N #1: Takes place ~4 months after The Video & The House timestamp...
A/N #2: Oh, I’ve gotten so much joy from writing this series and watching these characters and relationships blossom into so much more. I plan for this to be the final timestamp for this series. Thank you for all the support this one has been shown and enjoy!...
“Hi dad,” you said, walking straight into their house, heading for the basement stairs. “You still got all the old kid clothes from when the other guys were little, right?”
“Yes,” he said, hopping up from his seat and following you down the hall and the stairs. “Y/N.”
“I need the clothes and some toys,” you said, already flipping on the light and walking the shelves. “Maybe some other stuff. I might stop back later tonight.”
“You guys babysitting for a friend or something?” he asked. You paused, his brow furrowing. “Talk to me, tall munchkin. What’s going on?”
“It’s a long story,” you said, finding two boxes with baby clothes and grabbing them, your dad taking one from your arms as you headed upstairs.
“Y/N,” he said, following you out to your car where you shoved them in your backseat. “Y/N. Slow down.”
“Dad, it is a really, really long story,” you said.
“I got all the time in the world,” he said. You leaned your head back and closed your eyes, opening them to see a whole lot of concern in his. “Kiddo.”
“...Short version? About three months ago TJ and I were out for dinner downtown. We were walking back to our car and we cut through an alley cause it was pouring rain out and we were trying to get back to the garage we parked in faster. We found a kid, this baby. It was crying pretty quiet in this cardboard box by the dumpster. It was a newborn, like, brand new newborn. We got her someplace safe and even shorter story, as of about ten minutes ago, we’re her foster parents,” you said.
He stared at you, blinking slowly, lips moving a few times but nothing came out.
“She’s going to be over in like an hour and I want to have the house ready as much as possible,” you said. “Dad, can I go?”
“You’re a foster parent?” he asked quietly.
“It’s like I said, long story. Just can I have the stuff and go for right now?” you asked. He nodded, shutting the backdoor for you. “Thanks.”
You weren’t expecting him to get in the passenger seat but maybe he simply wanted to help move the boxes for you. You were in your driveway in under a minute, setting the boxes down inside when you caught sight of TJ putting together a portable crib.
“You guys are fosters?” said your dad again as you started to unpack a few things.
“Yup,” said TJ, groaning at the crib. “I hate this thing.”
“Turn the piece the other way,” said your dad. TJ did and it popped into place, TJ giving him a grateful look as he worked on the other side. “Fosters?”
“Is there an echo? Yes,” you said, separating out the clothes.
“You’re barely 25. You’re a foster parent? Both of you?” he asked. You lifted your head up, staring him down.
“Dad. I never understood, not all the way, how you could have loved me unconditionally right away. I just...I didn’t think I would ever understand that. I know you said you always knew but I always thought you were being nice because how could you really love someone right away like that? Then we met Allie three months ago. Immediately, I understood. The second we found out she was going into foster care, we signed up. We don’t know why we love her so much and it frankly scares the shit out of me and him over there but we love that kid. There is some kind of connection to her. I don’t care if we’re only 25. We’re old enough and we’ll give her a safe place to grow up in,” you said.
“Oh God. You want to adopt her, don’t you?” he said, his face blank as he looked between the two of you.
“Yeah, I do,” you said.
“Me too,” said TJ, working on the last piece of the crib.
“Like I said...we love her,” you said.
“Okay. Okay,” said your dad, a gentle smile on his face. “Mom and I will help you. Give me a second, lot to take in at once.”
“Well when you stop freaking out, we need to start baby proofing pronto,” you said, taking out some clothes and tossing them in a pile for the wash.
“Uh, sure, I’m on it,” he said, taking off when you pointed him upstairs. He was nearly all the way up when he came back down and gave you a big hug.
“Dad,” you groaned.
“You understand,” he said. You nodded, a soft smile crossing his face. “It’s really scary, huh?”
“Yeah,” you said, returning it as TJ finished up. “You don’t love me any different than if I was your own kid.”
“You are my own kid,” he said, forcing himself away. “Okay, I’m on picking up anything bad. Call your mom, she’s out at the store with the other guys right now. She can grab instant formula. How old’s Allie again?”
“About three months. She’s a little small…” you trailed off, looking to TJ.
“Someone tried to throw her away after she was born. She had a rough first few days,” said TJ. Your dad froze for a moment, your own face scrunching up. “Yeah. We don’t get it either.”
“Well it sounds like she’ll do just fine with you two around,” he said. “Give me a shout if you need me to do something else.”
“Alright,” you said, spinning around the kitchen. “House is good and clothes are clean and food is here and crib done and we got tons of diapers and we’re gonna need a crash course on diaper changes but I think we have everything to survive tonight. I think.”
“You sound like a true mom,” said your mom with a small laugh, JJ watching the other guys back at home. You could feel your heart pounding in your chest when the doorbell rang, TJ grabbing your hand as he pulled you over and opened the door.
“Hi guys,” said Cole, holding a baby carrier in one hand, a curious little Allie tucked inside, black tuft of hair like TJ’s jutting out from under her pink hat.
“Cole?” you said. “I thought Allie’s case worker was-”
“Hey kid. You think when I heard my old foster was a parent I was letting that one slip past me?” he said, stepping inside, carefully setting down the carrier and giving you a hug. “Allie, this is Y/N and her husband, TJ. Me and Y/N go way back to when she was just ten years old. It took awhile but I finally got her hooked up with an awesome family. I think you cutie patootie are gonna hit the jackpot with just your second home you lucky girl.”
“How is she?” you asked.
“Good. She’s you know, got that classic sass this family thrives off of so she’ll fit in just fine,” he said.
“Can I…” asked TJ, almost reaching down for her but pausing, Cole chuckling to himself.
“Yeah. I got to take the carrier back anyways,” said Cole. TJ bent down and carefully picked her up, Allie laying her head on his shoulder and shutting her eyes. “We had a long drive over. I think she likes you TJ.”
“Hi Allie,” he said softly, one of her hands fisting in his shirt. “You look so good and healthy now, baby girl.”
He started to walk around with her, lost in his own little world as you watched with Cole.
“Always knew that kid would be a good dad,” said your own, he and your mom stepping around the corner.
“Jensen, Danneel. It’s been a while. Bet you didn’t think you’d be grandparents so soon, huh?” teased Cole.
“I’m not even fifty,” said your dad, running his hand through his hair with a laugh. “Must run in the family or something.”
“Yes, it does,” said Cole, turning back to you. “Alright, so the process is going to be a little bit different than when you were a kid Y/N. Different hoops to jump through.”
“We don’t care,” you said with a nod.
“Fostering is one thing, adoption is another,” he said.
“I understand that. But I am going to be that little girl’s mother. I don’t care how hard it is,” you said.
“I know. I got to say it to all my first time fosters looking to adopt, just something I do,” he said.
“He did it to us too,” said your mom.
“I will be checking in on you guys on a regular schedule. I’ll be doing unannounced visits. They may be frequent, they may not be. My best interest is that of the child. I know you want this. I know you’ve grown quite a bit since the last time we saw one another. I have no doubts that you and TJ will love Allie like she’s your own. It’s just the process we have to go through. I’m not going to freak out on you if you’re not perfect parents. They don’t exist, trust me. Even these two over here. A safe and loving home is what I expect and I am confident you could do that in your sleep. Okay?” asked Cole.
“Okay,” you said.
“TJ?” he asked.
“Okay,” he said, carrying Allie over, handing her to you.
“Hey,” said your dad, giving Allie a tiny wave as you held her. She giggled, smiling at him. “I’m your grandpa, Jensen, and you are adorable. But you can call me Jay.”
“You got some time to figure out the name, grandpa,” said your mom, Allie booping her nose when she leaned in. “She’s got hair just like TJ and look at those eyes. You got eyes like your new mama.”
“Her name...how do you name a baby when something like that happens?” asked your dad when Allie turned her attention back to TJ and smiled at him.
“Ask these two, they were calling her baby Allie when the paramedics got there. The name stuck apparently,” said Cole.
“Allie?” asked your dad, you mom breaking out into a quiet giggle.
“Allie. They found her in an alley, Jens. Allie,” she said.
“Thank god she wasn’t found at a 7/11,” he said. You laughed, Allie trying to mimic the sound, big eyes staring up at you. “Oh, she is smitten with you.”
“She’s not the only one.”
Two Months Later
“Y/N?” your dad yawned on the other end of the line. It was three in the morning and you knew you shouldn’t have called but you were sleep deprived and TJ wasn’t home and you just needed some help. “Kiddo?”
“Can you please come over?” you breathed out.
“I’ll be right there. Is Allie okay? You okay?” he asked, the sound of a door opening in the background.
“Yeah,” you whispered, Allie screaming her head off again straight in your other ear. “Please.”
“Alright. I’m in the garage. I’ll be there in just a minute,” he said.
About sixty seconds later, you heard him pull in and walk through the front door in a t shirt and boxers. You were sitting on the couch, Allie still shouting, your dad frowning when he saw you.
“She won’t stop. I don’t know...TJ always knows and he’s away at that work conference…” you said, tears prickling in the corners of your eyes. “I’m just so tired.”
“When’s the last time you slept?” he asked, picking Allie up and bouncing her on his hip lightly as he started to walk around.
“I don’t know,” you said, rubbing your wet face. “Tuesday?”
“Go to bed,” he said. “Now.”
“No, no. I just-”
“I wasn’t asking. Go to bed. You’re crying and upset because you’re exhausted. I got Allie,” he said.
“Why won’t she stop?” you said as you stood up, holding out your arms for her.
“Hey, tall munchkin,” he said, getting you to pause for a moment. “I know you’re scared something’s wrong. I know. She’s being cranky right now is all. I guarantee she misses her daddy and that’s what it is. Daddy hasn’t been gone this long before.”
“How do I make it stop then?” you mumbled.
“You go sleep. I got her,” he said, booping her nose as she continued to shout. “Come on Allie. Let’s go take mommy’s car for a drive. I bet you love getting middle of the night car rides. All you lil guys do.”
“Dad, I can-”
“Bed. Please. Turn off your alarm. I’m staying over tonight and you’re not going to work tomorrow,” he said. “Boss man said it’s okay.”
“What if Cole drops by tomorrow...I can’t...I-”
“Honey,” he said, Allie red in the face at this point. “Nobody does it alone if they don’t have to and you don’t have to. You got a whole family behind you. TJ being gone this week, we should have offered in advance.”
“I would have said I was fine,” you said.
“I know,” he said with a smile. “Please go rest, Y/N. Please.”
You nodded and gave Allie a kiss goodnight when she took a moment to get more air back in her lungs to keep shouting. It got quiet as he took her outside and you heard your car start up. You wear barely in bed with the covers over you before you passed out.
You wearily woke up around noon, not remembering the last time you had slept that long. It was before Allie came along for sure. You stretched as you sat up, finding some clothes that smelled cleaned and tossed them on. Downstairs you found your favorite lunch sandwich from the place near the brewery in the fridge, a plate of cookies on the counter along with a bottle of wine and a note on top.
Allie’s ours for the day. You can swing by our place at six for dinner but until then, take some time for you, kiddo.
“I owe you guys one,” you said, scratching your head.
“Hey,” you said, walking into the house just before six, Arrow running around the corner holding up a finger to her lips. She pointed at the couch and you looked over the edge, your dad fast asleep with Allie passed out on his chest.
“Those two have been playing and playing all day,” said your mom from the kitchen.
“Thanks for watching her today,” you said.
“I helped!” said Arrow. “I even changed her diaper.”
“Thanks sis,” you said. “You’re a good Aunt.”
“I’m ten,” she deadpanned.
“Still Allie’s Aunt,” you teased. “So what’s for dinner?”
“Barbecue and mac & cheese,” said Arrow.
“Sounds perfect,” you said, taking a seat at the kitchen counter. Arrow took off when she heard Zeppelin call for her, your mom shrugging at his obliviousness to the pair sleeping nearby.
“Eh, Allie’s a deep sleeper. She tuckered your dad right out. He didn’t sleep much last night,” she said.
“I didn’t mean to ruin his sleep too,” you said, resting your head in your hand, propping your elbow against the counter. She smiled, leaning over the edge. “I know. You didn’t mean it like that.”
“Some nights...they just scream and shout and you want to help ‘em but you don’t know what to do. Some nights, you just gotta let ‘em get it out of their system,” she said.
“Dad said she missed TJ probably. That didn’t even cross my mind,” you said.
“Because you were too tired to realize you miss him yourself,” she said.
“Yeah. She’s a daddy’s girl. She always calms down for him,” you said.
“Sounds like someone else,” she said.
“I know. JJ’s such a daddy’s girl,” you said with a smirk.
“Well yes but I meant you, silly,” she said.
“Me? I am not a daddy’s girl. Have you met me?” you said with a laugh.
“He’s still wrapped around your finger,” she said.
“No he’s not,” you said.
“It’s not a bad thing, your dad being one of your best friends,” she said with a smile. “It’s got it’s perks for sure.”
“...I think I scared him last night,” you said. “Calling like that.”
“You should have seen him with JJ. She was four months old, he’d just gotten a red eye home from work. 16 hour day, hadn’t slept the night before because of some neighbor dog sitting the chihuahua from Hell he called it. He’d been awake like...over forty hours at that point. I had the flu so I couldn’t handle JJ and she just went off just as he was going to bed. That was not a good night for him or anyone really. So we left her in her crib after the usual stuff and she eventually stopped and she just wanted attention we figured out. She was learning to test mom and dad out,” she said.
“So babies are cute little evil pooping machines?” you asked.
“Yup,” she said.
“She’s pretty cute though,” you said.
“Yeah she is.”
You heard your dad stir, an adorable giggle coming from over there as he sat up.
“They awaken,” said your mom. “Want me to order the food?”
“Yes please,” he yawned, standing up and carrying over Allie, letting her sit on his lap when he sat down beside you. “You look better.”
“You got me cookies,” you said. “And wine.”
“You can have that later,” he teased, Allie looking up at him. “You gonna behave yourself tonight little missy and let your mommy get some sleep? She misses TJ too ya know. Don’t see her crying about it.”
“It’s okay to miss your dad,” you said, tilting your head at them both. “You still don’t look like a grandpa.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment,” he laughed, handing over Allie to you.
“Hi sweetums,” you said, Allie smiling and reaching for you, pulling your thumb to her mouth to suck on.
“You got a paci around here somewhere,” said your mom, spinning around and grabbing one off the counter while she was on hold, handing it over along with a towel.
“Thanks,” you said, trading off with Allie, a little look of contentment on her face. You cleaned yourself off, Allie playing with it for a moment. “Dad.”
“You’re a good mom, kiddo,” he said.
“I was just...do you think we’re too young?” you asked.
“No. Being a good parent has nothing to do with age. You would know that,” he said. “Got a call from Cole earlier actually. They’re moving on to the interviewing family stage. They’re gonna come talk to all of us. Adoption shouldn’t be too too long now.”
“I don’t feel like I know what I’m doing,” you said.
“You never really will,” he said. “Fake it til you make it.”
“I didn’t want to be a mom so soon you know,” you said.
“Maybe not but you want to be her mom and that’s what matters,” he said.
“When does the wisdom part come?” you joked.
“Eventually,” he said. “You’ll have the hang of it by the time this one is in need of some advice.”
“Thanks for taking her last night,” you said.
“S’no problem. I know how to deal with an upset little Ackles girl,” he teased. “Hanover girl I should say.”
“You just wanted time with grandpa,” you said.
“I am too young to be grandpa,” he said, tickling one of Allie’s feet as she played with them. “Next time, just call before we get to the breaking point, okay kiddo?”
“Yeah, cause that’s totally me,” you said.
“Well it’s hard to be perfect like your old man,” he said, your mom whacking his arm as she walked by. “Hey, so I picked up a new job.”
“What’s it about?” you asked.
“It’s a rom com,” he said.
“You’re gonna be in a rom com?” you teased. “Oh, that is great. Oh, that is-“
“It’s a horror movie,” said your mom, whacking him again. “Oh my...still on hold.”
“Don’t spoil it for her!” he said.
“Let me guess, you’re the bad guy,” you said.
“No...maybe...act surprised anyways,” he said. “And I really am doing a rom com!”
“Since when?” said your mom, starting to laugh when she took off and started ordering.
“You’re doing a rom com? Wow,” you teased. “Allie, maybe you can watch that one with me.”
“Jared’s gonna do it with me. We get to film right here in Austin. Should be a lot of fun,” he said.
“Well that’s good. So is it really a rom com?” you asked.
“More rom drama? It’s a story, about a guy,” he said. “He’s a dad. Single dad. Meets a girl and all that.”
“Sounds sweet,” you said.
“It’ll be fun. Looking for a set designer if you’re interested again,” he said.
“I would. But the brewery keeps me busy enough along with this gal,” you said.
“I figured as much,” he said, Allie playing with one of his fingers. “I know. You’re adorable, aren’t you?”
“Cole said we can rename her if we want once the adoption is getting final. TJ and I were thinking of middle names,” you said.
“Well you got the Allie Hanover part figured out,” he said.
“TJ thought something with a J. She could maybe go by AJ sometimes too,” you said.
“Well there’s lots of pretty J names to pick from,” he said.
“We were thinking Jay,” you said. “After you. I know JJ has it too but...we liked the sound of it.”
“I think that’s pretty...and means more to me than you realize,” he said, taking Allie’s feet in his hands and giving them a light squeeze. “I guess that cements it now kid. You’re stuck with us crazies for life.”
“I don’t think she minds,” you said.
“I certainly hope not,” said TJ. You spun around in your chair with a smile, TJ a little tired looking under his baseball hat as he snuck in through the back door. “Surprise!”
“You’re not supposed to be home until tomorrow!” you said, standing up and getting a hug and kiss, TJ taking Allie from you and giving her a big hug as well.
“Well I was planning on surprising you and then your parents told me there’d be free barbecue for dinner so naturally I rushed back as fast as I could. I heard my baby girl missed me last night,” he said, Allie trying to give him a kiss. “I love you too.”
“Now she’s an angel,” you said, as you sat back down leaning back in your chair.
“Oh she’s always an angel,” said TJ, bending down to give you a better kiss. “You doing okay today?”
“Yeah,” you hummed, TJ rubbing a hand over your head. “Needed a little help was all. Missed you.”
“Missed you too, dork,” he said, kissing the top of your head. “Mind if I run home to shower quick before dinner? I can grab the food along the way.”
“No, no. You take your shower and come back. I got the food,” said your dad. “Enjoy your girls.”
“Thanks,” said TJ. “I’ll be back in ten.”
“Okay. See you soon, TJ.”
Two Years Later
You giggled as you took a photo of TJ passed out on the couch, Allie taking up the other half and using his legs as a pillow. Little two month old Colin was fast asleep on TJ’s chest and your parents one year old dog, Toby, found a space near TJ’s head to get in on the cuddle with. You picked Colin up after a moment and put him in his portable crib beside them, giving your boy a kiss before wandering outside to your parents backyard where they were having a fire with your siblings.
“We thought you might have fallen in,” teased your dad.
“Just checking on the sleepy crew. They all seem pretty content,” you said, plopping down in your chair between the twins. Zeppelin started talking about school again, your dad smirking when Kylie came up in the conversation. It was clear it was his first crush but your dad didn’t say anything aside maybe he could drop him and Kylie off to go see a movie sometime. You smiled, JJ adamantly refusing that she liked anyone when pressed. You knew there was a boy, a certain Padalecki boy, that she liked. You’d only caught them out on their first date and all.
God, she was terrified you and TJ would tell on her and Tom. You promised to keep it a secret for now, knowing neither of your parents would have a problem with it, knowing that there’d been a running joke for years now about which kids were going to end up together.
“What about you Arrow? You caught the love bug yet or you still my precious baby girl?” asked your dad.
“You’ve met the boys in our grade. Not exactly prime material to work with there,” she said. You had to stifle a laugh, somehow amazed at the range of maturity she had despite being barely twelve.
“Oh, I know who Ro likes,” said Zeppelin with a smirk. “Or used to.”
“You would never betray twin code,” she scoffed. “You like being alive too much.”
“He’s your older brother. He just likes to mess with you,” you said. “Zeppelin knows which sibling to really fear.”
“TJ?” he laughed. You narrowed your eyes, Zeppelin shrugging. “Technically, he’s our brother.”
“TJ’s been around forever,” said Arrow. You looked over at your mom who was whispering something to your dad, the both of them staring at you when it finally clicked.
“Is it really? Today?” you asked.
“It only took you long enough to figure it out!” said your dad, your mom giggling beside him. “Nice to know how much it means to her.”
“What?” asked the twins, JJ tilting her head.
“I know you’re in on it. You three are horrible liars,” you said, the twins breaking out into smiles before they reached under their chairs and pulled out two presents.
“Happy ten years with us, kiddo,” said your dad.
“Flew by to be honest,” you said, getting handed three more presents. You leaned back in your chair, looking at the fire. “I still think about that day I came here sometimes. Zeppelin gave me his doggie.”
You ruffled his hair, Zeppelin shy for a moment.
“Arrow and JJ have me those obnoxious pink pajamas,” you said, both of them shaking their heads. “And you guys have me a home.”
“Well we didn’t get you a home this time. Open it up,” said your dad. “In order.”
“In order huh,” you said, finding the first one with a label on it in the dim light. You peeled off the wrapping paper, finding a baseball tee inside. “For that family baseball game coming up I assume?”
“Mhm. Keep going,” he said. The second present had a pair of flannel pajama pants, the third a cozy looking sweatshirt.
The fourth made you pause. You pulled out a sketchbook, not one you would buy in a normal store. It was meant for architecture design, room by room sketches.
You set the book down, going to the last item. A pair of keys.
“You bought a house,” you said.
“All the Ackles pitched in. It’s going to be a vacation house for everyone to use, pass down through the years. It needs a whole renovation done though. We thought maybe our resident architects would like to design it for the family,” said your dad.
“Yeah, we’d love to. We’re gonna want input from everybody,” you said, giving your pile of goodies a smile. “Still got me a home this time.”
“Almost like we planned it all out or something,” said your mom.
“I can’t believe I let myself be adopted by you two,” you laughed.
“It’s kind of funny,” said JJ, looking at the fire. “How stuff works out.”
“You having a moment?” said your dad, leaning forward in his seat. “I got ten years of experience in this just so you know.”
“How did you not run away from these losers?” she joked, quickly wincing. “Sorry.”
“S’okay. I came back,” you said.
“You ran away? said Zeppelin. “Yeah, right.”
“She did! She was a little popsicle when I found her. Froze my own ass off that night looking for her,” said your dad.
“Language,” said your mom.
“Oh they’re twelve. We said thirteen. Close enough,” he said.
“Alright but no repeating anything out of your degenerate of a father’s mouth,” she said.
“Thank you. As I was saying, that sucked and she didn’t do it again. Well, I caught her in the driveway once but it was May at least that time and she’d had a rough day,” he said.
“Why would you ever want to run away?” asked Zeppelin.
“Because I was scared, of a lot,” you said. “I said some pretty horrible things back then.”
“I don’t really remember it that way,” said your mom.
“I remember watching Zepp and he smacked his head on the floor,” you said.
“Is that why you’re so ugly?” asked Arrow with such a straight face, your dad burst out laughing.
“Oh, I miss when they were little but look at the little sarcastic monsters we created,” he said.
“Your father is so proud,” said your mom, shaking her head. “Zeppelin, you were fine. Not sure we ever even told you about that.”
“I guess I just don’t get why though. Not in a bad way, just ya know?” said Zepp.
“Hey. Y/N don’t have to tell us anything she doesn’t want to,” said JJ.
“Says the one who gets to know stuff,” he said.
“I know the same as you guys,” she said.
“Guys,” you said, your three younger siblings turning to you. “Do you guys remember when I told you how we found Allie?”
“Yeah,” said JJ.
“For about seven years, that’s what my life felt like. Like someone left me alone to get by. Except it was worse than that. If you are afraid for seven years, it takes time to learn not to be afraid. I’ve spent the past ten doing that. Ten years ago, I honestly believed every one of you was better off without me. Maybe you were, maybe you weren’t. I just know I can’t ever explain it and I know you guys wonder what bad stuff happened to me in foster care but it doesn’t matter. You know what did happen to me in foster care? I found two dorky little sisters and a dorky little brother and two dorks for parents and even Icarus and now Toby and I got grandma and grandpa and grandma and grandpa again and our Aunts and Uncles and cousins and the Pads and a whole lot more people. I was alone. Then I wasn’t. I had nobody and then I got adopted. I found a family in foster care. That’s what happened,” you said.
“Yeah but what happened?” asked Arrow. You shook your head and laughed, your dad shrugging.
“You’re supposed to be all emotional and moved and all that now, Arrow. The point your sister is making-“
“You get to know, dad,” said JJ.
“Well what do you want to know?” you asked.
“I just wanted to know if you were, you know, happy,” she said. “Before us.”
“There were moments,” you said with a smile. “My first boyfriend made me happy. Doing well in school made me happy. I used to draw a lot. I got pretty good. Cole was always very kind to me. He used to take me out for fun days, get me out of my houses whenever he knew I was getting in a funk.”
“I don’t remember Cole doing that,” said your mom.
“Well after a few months here, he mentioned it, like we would after he did a normal check in and...we both decided I didn’t need ‘em anymore,” you said.
“I still can’t believe you ever thought Cole wouldn’t think you and TJ should have Allie,” she said.
“He’s seen me at my worst,” you said.
“And he’s seen how far you’ve come,” said your dad. “We don’t worry about this one running away anymore.”
“You guys are alright,” you said, stretching out your arms. “Hey, I think we should make some smores.”
“Do we have stuff?” asked your mom.
“I do at my house,” you said.
“Sounds like we’re about to have some smores in about ten minutes,” said your dad, hopping up from his seat. “We’ll be right back.”
You followed around the yard and out to the street, walking quietly on the December night.
“Here,” he said, shrugging out of his jacket, putting it on you. “Not as warm away from the fire.”
“Thanks,” you said, feeling like you were swimming in it. You got halfway to the corner before you stopped and looked over at him, his pace stilling. You gave him a hug, taking a deep breath. “Thanks, dad.”
“No. Thank you, tall munchkin,” he said, squishing you too tight for a moment. “I love you so much.”
“You have equally sappy moments like this with the other guys, right?” you asked.
“Yeah. Even TJ,” he said. “Even Arrow is getting into it. The boy she likes is apparently dating Sarah Jenkins and Sarah was mean to Arrow in History right in front of him and he didn’t say anything. She felt so bad.”
“She didn’t tell me,” you said.
“Eh, she’s still in that phase of not wanting to deal with that stuff yet which is fine with me. I’m sure she’ll be just like JJ and Zepp, running to you, you giving us the pertinent information,” he said.
“I do not,” you laughed. “I ain’t snitching unless I think I need to which I don’t.”
“JJ and Tom are so dating aren’t they,” he said with a big smile.
“They are best friends...who happen to enjoy kissing each other. Trust me, those two are miles and miles away from even figuring out what second base is,” you said.
“Because that’s an image I want of those two in my head,” he said, shaking his own.
“I literally have two kids. One of which came out of me. I would hope you know how babies are made,” you said.
“Nope. The stork dropped off Colin. Positive on that,” he said.
“You’re such a loser,” you said, rolling your eyes.
“I learned it from you,” he said, bumping your shoulder as you started to walk again. “But yes, all three are starting to grow up, starting to have those conversations with us.”
“What about TJ? I know you two do your guy stuff and have little man dates,” you said, getting a light ruffle of your hair for that.
“The boy wants to give you the world. He is smitten and then some. I understand that feeling. Sometimes I just remind him though to let you take care of him too. He’s a pretty special guy after all,” he said.
“Yes, he is,” you said, rounding the corner, slowing your pace some. “I still don’t know why he likes me.”
“He sees what we all wish you could see all the time,” he said. “I know that’s not how your head works though. But we’ll keep reminding you how great you are.”
“Really?” you scoffed. “I’m not anything special.”
“What?” he asked, voice smaller than you were used to hearing, making your head whip around. “You are great. I know you don’t think you are all the time but you do most of the time, don’t you?”
“I don’t think I’m great,” you laughed.
“Well, that’s because you’re humble. But…” he trailed off.
“Most of the time, I’m happy,” you said. “I promise.”
“Good,” he said.
“Dad,” you said, slowing your pace even further. “Not to get morbid…”
“Continue,” he chuckled.
“TJ and I, with Colin being born now...we’re going to change our will, if something ever happens to us,” you said.
“We will take care of them both,” he said. “You never have to ask that.”
“I know. I have a slightly different one to ask though. If for some reason, we’re gone and you guys are gone and...and everybody’s gone...and...we just don’t want the kids to get separated from their family, or each other,” you said.
“You want to do what we did with you,” he said with a smile. “And what we recently did with JJ.”
“Anything happens to all of us and she was old enough, I mean she’s 15 already, do you think she’d be okay with taking them in?” you asked.
“She loves her little niece and nephew. I am fully confident she’d be okay with it,” he said. “I know it sucks to have to think about this stuff but we’ll always make sure Allie and Colin stay with us.”
“If something happened-”
“If something happened on what would be the worst day of my life, those two are taken care of,” he said. “I promise.”
“Well, I’m not planning on dying anytime soon,” you said with a smile.
“Good. You’re not allowed to go first. Kids don’t go before the parents. It’s one of the rules,” he said.
“Like you got to stick around until 102?” you teased.
“I’m keeping up my end of it so far,” he said. “You keep up yours, deal?”
“Deal,” you said, jumping left into the road when you saw something crawling on the ground.
“Oh my…” he said, bending down and picking you up, a smile on your face at how strong and fit he still was for being fifty. “Did I not just say you can’t die? Like, don’t go jumping straight into the road.”
“First off, our neighborhood is quiet. Second, that is a big ass spider,” you said. He spun around, spotting the black ball move around.
“That’s just a squirrel,” he said, leaning in closer. It crawled further out so the street light caught it. He took off with you down the block. “Not a squirrel, not a squirrel.”
“Told you!” you laughed, getting a ride all the way to your house. He set you down inside, smiling when he saw a new batch of pictures of Allie and Colin together on the fridge.
“Hey kiddo?” he asked as you gathered up the stuff and tossed it in a bag.
“Yeah?” you asked, tying it up and switching off the kitchen light.
“You guys want to crash at our place tonight?” he asked.
“Yeah,” you said. “They’re all passed out anyways. If you don’t mind.”
“We never will,” he said. You headed outside and locked up, back to walking along the street, avoiding where you’d seen the spider and curving around the bend back to the house. “So, any big plans for your birthday next week? Somebody turns 27.”
“No. Mom said she was planning it all, just something small at home like normal,” you said.
“Reach in your left pocket,” he said. You shoved your hand in his jacket, pulling out an envelope. You stilled when you got to a street light and flipped it over.
Ten Years
“What’s this?” you asked, holding it up.
“You didn’t think I just wrote a letter the day you came here and the day you were adopted and the day you were married and the day Allie was adopted and the day you had Colin and...honestly you should not be surprised at my letters anymore, kiddo,” he teased.
“How many more are there?” you asked, carefully feeling the envelope, a few sheets of something handwritten inside you could tell.
“Where’s the fun in that?” he asked.
“I don’t need a letter to know I love you,” you said.
“Well I’m sorry but I got a whole lot of letters written up to hand out someday,” he said.
“Dad. When did you write this?” you asked. He shrugged. “Dad.”
“Day after you got adopted,” he said.
“You’re not allowed to be this sappy,” you said, running your hands over your face, pulling them away with a smile. You put the envelope back in your jean pocket and gave back the jacket when you were nearly there. “Come on, let’s go do smores old man.”
“Night,” yawned your dad, locking up after everyone went in for the night. Allie had woken up and settled herself at the other end of the couch more comfortably, TJ in a different position now. They both had blankets so you figured to leave them be, Colin still happily asleep beside them. You had your letter in hand as you headed for your old room, your dad checking the locks around the house, following you to the garage door, quickly walking past the open door of your room to head for bed.
“Dad?” you said. He hummed as he walked back into the doorframe, giving you a sleepy smile. “Love you.”
“Love you too,” he said.
“Check your right pocket,” you said. He tilted his head and reached his hand in his jacket pocket, pulling out a light blue envelope.
“Dad,” he read. “What’s this?”
“It’s your letter, silly,” you said. “I know what today is, dad. Mom found hers this morning.”
“Found what?” he asked, flipping it over, smirking at it as he saw what was written on the back. “You always write me sappy letters so I thought I’d write you one because today is the tenth year of you being my dad. Fair warning, you’re gonna cry cause this is so cute. Thank you for not giving up on me in the same spot you’re standing in ten years ago when I told you to. I can never repay you and mom for all you did. I love you.”
He pursed his lips and cleared his throat, lifting his head up with a smile.
“You never have to, kiddo. Never,” he said.
“I know. But I thought I’d tell you anyways,” you said. “The letter is so much worse by the way. Ugly tears kind of stuff.”
“You don’t hurt so much anymore, right?” he breathed out, nodding his head. “Right?”
“Yeah,” you said. “So much better than ten years ago. Ten years from now, I bet I’ll be even better.”
“Good,” he said, nodding his head. “Good. Let’s do this again in ten years?”
“Okay,” you said. “All the way to a hundred and two.”
“Stop making me cry or I’ll ground you,” he said, wiping his face with the back of his hand as he nodded.
“You can’t ground me,” you said, stepping over and giving him a hug.
“I could try,” he said, kissing the top of your head. “Goodnight, Y/N.”
“Night, dad. Thank you. For everything.”

Chapter 210: Glory of Love
After Granny's that evening, they had the small issue of figuring out where to stay. Winter and Charming had gifted the Charming family house to Emma and Killian and with their castles destroyed, they had contemplated staying at the Inn. But with their need to be alone, they decided against that and though they were offered an invitation to say in Elsa's castle, they opted to do a quick rebuild of their castle in Misthaven. Fortunately, with the power of the chalice, it only took minutes and they were soon sequestered in their newly rebuilt bed chambers. Tomorrow, Summer and Bobby would pick out their rooms in the castle that would now be their home, but for tonight, they were staying over at Regina and Robin's.
That left them alone to their own devices and they knew exactly how they were going to use their alone time. When she exited the now modernized bathroom, complete with a hot tub that she was sure they would make use of later, she spotted him on the veranda with a bottle of wine. Her favorite moscato wine and he had gotten rid of his shirt, much to her liking. She undid the cord of her silk robe and tossed it to the bed, before sauntering toward him in a slinky satin negligee, white in color, of course. She noticed he was looking out over the Kingdoms from their balcony and the cool night air hit her bare skin. Stars blanketed the sky in a spectacular fashion and twinkled above them. She recalled nights like these from Winter's memories and similar memories from Boston of Margaret Nolan from the last few years. It was odd to have so many dual memories in her head and so many lives, but she had never felt more at peace.
There was one thing that gave her pause and she could see that it was bothering her husband, as she noticed the pensive look on his handsome face. He turned to her and became immediately captivated by her, as he always was.
"You never fail to take my breath away," he confessed, as he took her hands in his own.
"But you're worried," she said.
"He's still out there...plotting who knows what to hurt you...I'm not sure I can rest knowing that. The thought of him getting close to you again...it's going to keep me up nights," he confessed.
"He's a coward...that's why he didn't show up. He knows that facing you head on is a death sentence and we will get him. He always hides and he's counting on haunting us again, but he's not going to this time," she assured.
"I don't know if it was having those peaceful years as Margaret or my memories as Winter, but I have never been more at peace," she confessed.
"I'm worried he's still out there too, but we'll be ready for him when he shows his ugly face," she said. He smiled and kissed her tenderly.
"We will...and I'll do everything in my power to make sure he doesn't escape when he does pop up again," he promised.
"And we are not going to waste anymore time talking about that psycho," he added, as he handed her a glass.
"Good...because the only thing I want right now is to be in the arms of the man I love," she said, as she looked at him.
"Charming...you're my hero and you always will be. And maybe, because of who we are, that means we'll always have a villain in our lives," she reasoned.
"But if that is the trade off for sharing this incredible love that we have...then I would never trade it for some peaceful life," she promised
"I know. Me either...it's just that the peaceful life we got in Boston for two years was pretty great," he mentioned.
"It was...but it was incomplete without our whole family. This is truly our home," she said, as they gazed out over Storybrooke from their castle.
"And I know that things are really uncertain now that the whole world knows about us...but maybe this is a chance to make an even bigger difference," she said.
"Our love...it defeats evil. If we can change just a few minds or take out just a few evils that cause harm to people...then I think I would feel really good about that, despite the risks," she added. He smiled at her.
"You're amazing...and I agree. I did like the feeling that I was making a difference when I was working with the Major," he agreed.
"And there's evil and crime here in the United Realms, but not like there is out there. I saw some of the worst of it in the last two years. And the monsters out there don't always look like monsters," he added. She smiled at him.
"Besides...even with the potential danger, you and I never turn down an adventure," she said. He grinned and swept her into his arms.
"No...we don't, but right now, there's only one adventure I care about," he said.
"Mmm...I think I'm going to like this adventure very much," she purred.
"If I'm on my game...you will," he teased.
"Oh, you've never not been on your game, my love," she replied, as the anticipation of what was to come was already fluttering in her stomach.
"Well, that's good, because I plan on making love to my beautiful wife all night long," he said, as he lay her in bed. She watched him with bated breath, as he turned down the lights and then used the chalice to ignite a fire in the fireplace. She smiled, as he got into bed with her and pulled her into his arms. She shifted in his arms and straddled his lap, as she gazed down at him. He looked up at her and the passion in his stare licked at her every nerve. Their lips met and the heat of the fire paled in comparison to the heat of passion between the truest of loves...

Regina collapsed on the couch next to Robin and he handed her a glass of apple cider, as they decompressed from a very crazy day.
"So...have you looked at the Internet yet?" she asked.
"I peeked a bit," he replied.
"How bad is it?" she winced.
"Pretty ridiculous. Learning that the mysterious Henry Swan's book is actually real was one thing, but then seeing the battle they just saw...heads are exploding," Robin said.
"And I suppose there are plenty of haters," she mentioned.
"I didn't look at too much of it, but yes. There also seems to be some rabid fans, which we know can be just as dangerous as the hateful people. And then there are various officials and government agencies. The Major and the FBI have taken the reins on this, with military involvement," he replied.
"What a mess," she sighed.
"Do you think Snow and David are making the right decision by cooperating with the Major?" he asked.
"I'm not sure they have a choice. If the Major really does somehow have all of Clayton's former assets, then I doubt we could keep her out even if we wanted to," she replied.
"Keep your enemies closer, I suppose," he reasoned. She snorted.
"Who knew Leroy would be right. We might really have tour buses driving down Main Street," she joked.
"Leroy being right seems like a precedent that we do not want to repeat," he joked as well, as he noticed her looking at the kids. Summer and Bobby were catching up with Roland and they had brought along their new friend JJ from the land of muggles.
"At least there are some that seem accepting of us," Robin mentioned.
"So it seems...but I don't like his cousin. Even with the Major controlling her narrative at the moment, she's bound to find a way around that and spew her skewed view of all this," Regina said.
"True...but her cousin seems like a good guy," Robin mentioned.
"So far," Regina replied in a measured tone and he chuckled.
"I get that you're protective of Summer, as you should be, but it takes a lot of character to run headlong into something like this for a girl he just met. There would have to be a deeper connection than just on the surface for any man to do that," he reasoned.
"I suppose you're right. I just hoped that once we put Seth down that we'd find a little peace. But I suppose that's not really in the cards for this family," she mused. He chuckled.
"We are a busy bunch," he agreed.
"Human evil is a lot harder to see than monsters right in our faces," she mentioned.
"That's why we'll be there. If the Major wants David still working out in the field, he won't be doing it alone," Robin said. She nodded.
"Not to mention there's one big monster that wasn't on the battlefield and is still out there," she replied.
"Dr. Jekyll...probably holed up in some makeshift lab somewhere cooking up some horrors," Robin said. She bit her bottom lip.
"Do you think a locator potion would work?" he asked.
"It's possible...there's just a lot more places to hide now than there used to be when we were just dealing with Storybrooke. But it's definitely worth a shot," she replied.
"You think he's a step ahead already and somehow he's already blocked the magic of a locator spell," he mused.
"Probably...but it won't hurt to try. He's insane and I don't want him coming after Snow again if we can stop it," Regina said.
"We will…" Robin assured, as they shared a kiss.
"Listen to me...the Evil Queen fretting over the safety of Snow White," she mused.
"Your step-daughter, whom you love and now know was never really responsible for Daniel's death. Snow forgave you long ago," he reminded her.
"I know...and I've accepted that part of me. Finally...I reunited with her, because she is a part of me and I know that Snow and David have forgiven me, but now those stories are being laid bare for the entire world to see...some are not going to see me as anything other than the Evil Queen," she said.
"True...but there are those that can recognize someone who has redeemed herself as well," he replied.
"I suppose so…" she mentioned.
"You know, if you'd rather stay behind, Snow and David will understand," he said.
"No...there's no way in hell I'm letting my family, especially my grandchildren go out into that piranha tank without me," she said without thinking and he chuckled. A smile spread across her face at that.
"Hmm...guess I really don't give a damn what the muggles think, after all," she mused, as she finished her cider.
"The Land Without Magic better watch out. The Queen does not take kindly to someone being mean to her grand babies and neither does her thief," he said, as they shared another smile and a kiss.

"Wow...this book is incredible. And it's really the same as this one that's been out in bookstores all these years?" he asked, as he held up a white paperback copy that was published during their time in Hyperion Heights.
"Yes...this is the master copy," Summer replied, referring to the brown, leather bound book.
"And all of it happened?" he asked.
"All of it and Henry's paperback was only published as a result of the curse in Hyperion Heights," she replied.
"Curse? So you didn't know who you really were?" he asked.
"No...the one in Hyperion Heights separated my parents again, but Bobby ended up with Mom and I ended up with Dad," she explained.
"Yeah...unfortunately Mom was only cursed part of the time and that's why Clayton had her locked up in a mental institution," Bobby added.
"That's awful...this Clayton guy seems like he was a real problem," JJ said.
"He was the worst. I don't remember a lot of our time in Atlantis, but what I do remember wasn't good," Summer said.
"You've been to the Underworld...like hell!?" JJ exclaimed, as they flipped through the book and he saw Hades.
"Well…Bobby was just a baby and I was really little, so we didn't go. But Mom, Emma, Hook, Henry, Leo, Eva, Nana, and Grandpa Xander did after Dad fell through a portal to the Underworld," Summer explained.
"How did your father not die?" JJ asked.
"Well...the chalice was protecting his life and Hades couldn't take it," Summer replied.
"Which pissed him off and he refused to let him go, so Mom went after him and kicked ass," Bobby said.
"Wow...so your parents have literally been to hell and back," JJ mused.
"Yeah, but not even hell was as bad to what came after that," Summer said, as he turned the page.
"Dr. Jekyll...hey that's the crazy guy that was in the classroom that injected you," JJ realized.
"Yeah, crazy is putting it mildly and he happened to be one of the only ones to escape the battle," Bobby said.
"So he's still out there...does that mean your Mom is still in danger?" JJ asked.
"Yeah...unfortunately, but then it seems like Mom and Dad are always in some kind of peril," Summer replied.
"Huh...they don't really act like it," he mentioned. They smiled.
"That's our Mom and Dad," Summer said fondly.
"So...your parents and oldest sister weren't born in this land?" he asked.
"No...and that was before all the lands were one. It used to be just Storybrooke and the rest of us were born here," she answered.
"Wow…" he said, as he continued to flip through the book.
"I gotta say...you're taking this way better than most people are," Bobby mentioned. He shrugged.
"It probably helped that I kind of saw it up close and personal. It's a bit hard to deny it's all real after that and you're just people too, right? Just different," JJ said.
"Yeah...different scares a lot of people though, but glad to know there are still some that are accepting," Summer replied.
"So...do you have a family? Besides Nora?" Bobby asked bluntly.
"Bobby…" Summer chided, as she smacked his arm. JJ chuckled.
"It's okay...and I used to, but my parents are gone. They died in an accident years ago. They were anthropologists and traveled a lot. I lived in a group home after that and then became a paramedic," he explained.
"Nora's parents didn't take you in?" Summer asked.
"No...her parents were barely fit to take care of her, let alone me," he replied.
"I'm sorry…" she said. He smiled.
"Don't be...I'd tell you to not take your loving family for granted, but it doesn't seem like you do. Sounds like you've had to fight like hell to keep them," he replied. She smiled.
"We have and we always will," she said, as they continued to flip through the book.

Pleasure Island. That was the name, but in looking at it, the name simply had to be a misnomer. Upon the joining of the United Realms, the lawless and accursed Pleasure Island was included in the good curse. Hook had explained to his family that it was an offshoot of Neverland, though not created by Pan, but rather Stromboli, who was long dead now. The Island delivered upon its name, if your definition of pleasure included lawless activities like gambling, brothels, excessive drinking, and a slew of other violent crimes. Initially, David had been furious to find that they really had no ruler and their refusal to tolerate any leadership.
They had weighed their options to rein in the crime on the Island, but each one would likely only escalate to violence.
The lost boys that had refused to allow the Charmings to help them upon Pan's demise had fled to Pleasure Island, where its accursed nature allowed them to remain young. It was dangerous and resistant to magic, thus why many rulers of the other Kingdoms were reluctant to engage. Seth had enjoyed the villainy and nature of Pleasure Island, allowing it to thrive during his rule and Jekyll found that it was the perfect place for his new base of operations.
A drunken sailor stumbled out of the bar and toward the Inn a few feet away.
"You really tied one on it seems," the doctor mentioned, as loitered outside the Inn.
"Yeah...the great thing about this place...there's no last call," he slurred.
"Yes...but I'm afraid it's last call for you," Jekyll said, as his hand glowed red with fire and the man screamed in agony, as Jekyll burned a hole clear through his abdomen. He smirked, as his victim fell dead to the ground and he placed a single snowdrop flower on the body.
"That should deliver my message quite nicely," he muttered, as he walked away and into the nearby tower that was his new home. It was abandoned, but perfect for his lab and living quarters. He had worked tirelessly through the day and now had his lab fully equipped and functional. The battle in Nephilim served as a nice distraction and had allowed him to steal the equipment, supplies, and drugs he needed from the hospital and University.
"Now...let's see if this works," Jekyll said, as he fired up his new surveillance system that he had worked tirelessly to get up and running.
"So...you've repaired your castle already, dear Snow," he muttered, as he noticed the Charming castle was whole again. He smirked, as the inside of the castle appeared. His nanomites, as he had dubbed them, were working perfectly.
While in Boston, he had invented tiny microbial surveillance devices, no bigger than a dust mite. This afternoon, after the battle, he had released hundreds of these microscopic entities into the United Realms. And now he had complete eyes on everything without having to leave the island.
"There you are, my dear Snow...always a vision of fair beauty," he leered, as he drank her in. He scowled at the man that held her in his arms and fumed.
"Enjoy your victory for now...because you have not seen the last of me and you'll soon know that with that little message I left you," he hissed, as he left his lab and walked into the busy tavern. The man he had murdered still lay in the streets and had already been searched for money and valuables. He paid the scene no mind and sat at the bar, before ordering a drink.
"You're new around here…" another man at the bar mentioned.
"Astute observation," Jekyll replied.
"Yep...this is where you come when you're hiding from the law," he man mentioned.
"And what makes you think I am hiding form the law?" Jekyll questioned.
"Oh, you're the infamous Dr. Jekyll...and we applaud how much grief you've caused Sheriff Charming in the past, but we don't want his kind coming here," he warned.
"Ah...afraid that my presence will bring the wrath of the mighty King Charming," Jekyll mused.
"That's right...so perhaps you'll just find your way along to another place. You look like you'd fit right in in Munchkin land," he chortled, earning laughs from the rest of the bar.
"Is that so?" Jekyll questioned, as he he grabbed the man around the throat. He choked and then screamed in agony, as he was burned to nothing but ash by Jekyll's demonic power.
"Anyone else care to try and evict me?" he questioned, as they all went back to their drinks and he brushed his hands and clothes off, before sitting down at the bar. There was a blonde woman entertaining the patrons on stage and while she was beautiful...she did not interest him. But then another girl took her place on the stage and this one happened to have long raven hair, not nearly as fair, but none were, and she captured his attention. He smirked and finished his drink, before approaching the stage and he let him mind imagine she was the object of his obsession. It would have to do until he could claim the genuine article. And he would...he was determined to get what he wanted, no matter what he had to do.

"And if you're just joining this live podcast...we have, of course, been discussing possibly the greatest disclosure of all time. But it's not aliens...no, it's perhaps even crazier than that. Story book characters, everyone. Fairy tales, if you can believe it. And we can now, because we have confirmation. We saw the whole thing. A battle with a snake God that was defeated by fairy tale characters, people. Not even the conspiracy world could make this up. A Princess that's supposed to sing to birds and her Prince saved us all. It's laughable...but it happened and it was a battle worthy of its place in a Marvel comic book...until the ridiculous moment when a kiss turned all the bad guys to dust. That's right...a kiss and we have a manual now to this whole world that has just opened to us. A book, appropriately titled, Once Upon a Time, written by Henry Swan and published less than a decade ago. This author, Henry Swan, is the Henry in the book. The grandson of the truest loves, as the book calls them. Our saviors," the podcaster said and then added a snort.
"I think I would have preferred an alien invasion," he joked and Eva huffed, before pausing the podcast on her phone. She looked up, seeing her husband looking at her with an amused smile.
"Popcorn?" she offered him with a sheepish smile. He chuckled and plopped down on the couch beside her.
"Why do you insist on listening to those garbage podcasts?" he asked, as he munched on the snack.
"Well...I have insomnia and I apparently also like to torture myself," she joked.
"But seriously...they're not all bad. Some were really excited about learning about us and some are totally in love with my parent's love story, but then that got really weird and creepy really fast," she explained.
"So then I found some that are mocking us instead...and that sucks too. I guess I'm just worried about what all this means," she added.
"Me too...remember, I'm from out there, even if my Dad was from another realm. People out there can be really cruel," he warned.
"I know...that's why I feel badly for not going with them in a few days on the initial trip...but I have patients here…" she fretted.
"Babe...do you really think your parents will be upset with you for not going?" he asked.
"No...I know they understand. I guess I'm just torn, because I feel like I should be there to feel those people out," she replied.
"Well...you know that I can cover for you if you decide to go. Your ability to read people would be invaluable," he mentioned.
"Are you sure?" she asked.
"I'll be fine for a few days. And I have Whale to help out," he added, as she gave him a look.
"Oh, that's comforting," she joked. He chuckled.
"You should go and if Whale manages to stay sober and things aren't nuts at the hospital, maybe I can join you later in Boston," he suggested. She smiled and kissed him.
"I'd love that," she agreed, as they joined hands and went back upstairs to bed

Snow moaned gently, as she awoke from a very deep sleep. She had no idea what time of day it was, but judging by the fact that the sun was high in the sky, it was probably the middle of the next day. Which made sense since she and Charming had actually made love nearly all night. She didn't know where their stamina and adrenaline had come from, but once their passion took hold, they spent all night trying to satiate their hunger for each other. She was a little miffed though to find his side of the bed empty and the absence of his warm body curled against hers was definitely the reason she was even awake already. She turned over and sat up, as she pulled the sheet up over her unclothed body, tucking it around her, just as her husband returned, wearing just his sleep pants and she bit her bottom lip.
"There you are…" she purred.
"And with breakfast, though it's more like late lunch now," he replied, as he got back into bed with her and set the tray in front of them.
"Wow...pancakes, bacon, over easy eggs, strawberries with chocolate whipped cream...and hot cocoa with cinnamon. All my favorites," she said, as she cuddled against him.
"Well...after last night, I'd say we worked up quite an appetite," he replied, as he fed her a bite of pancakes and they proceeded to enjoy the breakfast he made together.
"Mmm...we definitely needed that after last night, which was amazing," she said, looking at him with a dreamy stare and he set the tray aside.
"Well...I'd say we deserve to spend the day in bed. It's been a while," he said, as he dipped a strawberry in the whipped cream and fed it to her.
"Mmm...we have definitely earned it," she agreed, as she ate the fruit and then kissed him, letting him taste the sweetness on her lips.
"Mmm...the food is good, but you taste far better than anything," he purred and she bit her bottom lip.
"Oh I know all about your hunger for me, my love. You're the reason I probably won't be able to walk today," she praised, as she gazed at him with a smoldering look and he smirked.
"Then my plan worked," he whispered in her ear, before he kissed her earlobe and then moved his way sensually down her neck.
"Mmm...don't start something you can't finish, handsome," she warned and then felt him pressing against her.
"Guess I just can't get enough of you," he said, giving her his best smolder and she pulled him into a kiss. He smiled at her, as their lips parted and they pressed their foreheads together. She smiled at him with desire lidded eyes.
"I guess I should know by now that magic happens when we're together," she breathed sensually, as the powerful magic between them consumed them once again.
~*~
As he sank into her again, she hummed in pleasure and slid her hands into his hair, gently running her fingers through it. They stared into each other's eyes and their shared heart pounded in sync. No words were spoken, but their eyes and heart spoke volumes. For them, this went far beyond physical and always had. They had always been so in tune with each other; a love that had always been on another level than most and that not even a curse could tear asunder. Being one in heart and mind already made their connection awe-inspiring. So when they became one in body too, it was nothing short of purely magical and almost ethereal. His thrusts this time were slow and languid, as he glided deeply into her each time.
She lay writhing beneath his undulating body, legs splayed around him. With every thrust, he hit her sweet spot and slowly pushed her to the edge. As she neared her climax, her mewls grew in volume and she raked her nails along his naked back, as her entire body trembled beneath him. He had her right at the edge and her cries became whimpers, as her body begged to come. She wasn't even sure how it was possible after the abundance of times they had already made love just hours ago, but she was beside herself, her mind clouded in the ecstasy that was him taking her. His slow lovemaking was expertly extending her pleasure in a way only he could do for her. Charming was an expert in all things Snow and her pleasure was his delight. He could make love and fuck her for eternity and she would never get enough of this man.
And watching her come apart in his arms was a delight he would never get tired of. Snow...beautiful Snow, emerald eyes dark with love and lust for him...only for him. Red lips parted, as short pants of air were inhaled and exhaled. Her body writhing and glistening with perspiration, her back arching and aching for his touch. Her round, full breasts pressed against his chest and the moan she made when he put his hands or lips on them was one he wanted to hear forever. But the best part...thrusting inside her. It was an indescribable pleasure that he would never take for granted and a great satisfaction to know that he would be the only one to ever be inside her; that it was him that made her dripping wet and cry out wantonly. Gliding into her slickness with slow pumps and feeling her tightness clenching around his cock, quaking and begging for release, was a feeling he wanted to feel for eternity and would.
"Charming…" she whimpered, as she teetered on the edge still and her teeth grazed his neck where she had marked him again.
"Oh baby please…" she cried, begging to come. He could never resist such a command and gripped her hips, gently angling her and thrust sharply into her. Changing the angle and pace only increased the volume of her cries, for Snow was never quiet when being fucked. He was close too...it was almost painful, as he slammed into her, abandoning his slow pace for a much faster one, rocking the whole bed as he did. When her orgasm finally hit, she let out a wanton scream, as her body trembled violently. As she was starting to come down and lay sated, as her husband sought his own. He was only seconds behind her and she felt completion, as he erupted inside her, singing her name as he always did.
~*~
When he finally pulled himself from her depths, she almost whimpered at the loss. Their need for each other was akin to their need for air and always had been. She cuddled against him, as he fell onto his back and spooned her against him.
"So yeah...we're not moving today, because if I could walk before, I'm pretty sure I can't now," she breathed, as their skin was slick with perspiration and her legs were entangled with his beneath the bedclothes.
"Good...then my plan to keep you in bed all day is working," he teased, as he pinched her rear. She giggled and then caressed his handsome face, before grabbing her phone to check messages.
"Wow…" she said.
"What is it?" he asked.
"Just a lot of texts from our friends telling us that social media is still blowing up over everything they saw," she replied.
"Well that should make Boston a blast in a few days," he said sarcastically.
"Yeah...are we doing the right thing?" she asked.
"I don't know...but the Major does have access to a lot of Clayton's assets and who knows what that entails. And if she has it...that means the FBI has access," he replied.
"Yeah…I guess this might be the only way to make sure we at least have a hand in making sure they don't just try to come in here and take over," she said.
"Exactly, though I think they know that wouldn't be easy for them or they would have already done it," he replied.
"Damn Seth...it's like he did this on purpose. He knew that even if he lost that exposing us to the entire world would be like its own new curse," she fretted, as he took her hands in his own.
"I know...I hate it too, but at the same time, I think it's also an opportunity to do some good," he said.
"You really think our love can make a difference out there? In the land of people that don't believe in anything, especially not true love," she asked. He smiled and kissed her tenderly.
"I think that our love is so powerful and amazing that it can win over even the most cynical and skeptical. And even if we will certainly have those that will never come around, it doesn't matter, because our love just proved that it can defeat even the most powerful evil," he said.
"And Clayton's network is still out there...it's an evil that still exists even with him gone," she agreed.
"Exactly...they operated outside our reach, but they are within our reach for the first time. Some died when Atlantis was destroyed, but we know how deeply the roots of his network are. My father has confirmed that," he said.
"If we help just a few people by taking down the people still connected with his operations...then I'd say that's enough reason to go to Boston," he added. She smiled at him.
"You're right...and you're amazing…" she gushed.
"I am the man I am, only because of your love," he said passionately, as he caressed her face.
"You're the reason...you and our children. You're the reason I live, breathe, and fight. I am so lucky to share this amazing love with you that the least I can do is try to protect and serve those that aren't as lucky as us," he added and she felt like melting.
"Oh Charming…" she gushed, as he pressed another kiss to her lips and once again, they became lost in each other.

The next day
"Explain to me why we're doing this again?" James asked, as he parked one of new squad sedans on Main Street and they got out. She smiled at him, as she got their daughter out of the backseat while he got their son.
"Because it's the right thing to do and when I told Snow about what the Horned King taunted at me...she thought since Blue is even older than me that she might know something about my past," Aphrodite said.
"But will she tell you? She's notorious for lying and screwing people over," he reminded her.
"I know...but I have to try. Snow doesn't have to change her back and she would deserve it so I hope to at least implore her to tell me if she knows anything," she said.
"You know that I support you, no matter what," he assured. She smiled.
"I know...you are the love of my life, but the holes in my past are troubling. I mean...when I think about Eros' biological father, it just gets fuzzy," she explained.
"You think your memories have been tampered with then," he realized.
"Well, it certainly would make more sense than I sprang up from the sea foam one day," she countered. He smirked.
"I suppose so...but what if these memories hurt you? That's what I'm really worried about," he fretted. She smiled at him and took his hands in her own.
"And I love you for that, but I have to know what he meant...no matter what," she said with determination. He sighed and nodded, as he held their son's hand and she held their daughter's.
"You know I love Eros like he's my own, right?" James whispered. She smiled.
"Oh I know...trust me, my love, that's not what this is about at all," she assured.
"I know," he assured in return, as they arrived at the convent.
"Thanks for coming," Snow said, as she held hands with Charming.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" James asked.
"I mean...this is a woman who ripped out her darker half, then screwed her over by making sure she abandoned her child with a neglectful, abusive husband, which put Rumple on a path to darkness. Then she led the Black Fairy right to my wife and was the reason why she lost her son for thousands of years. Then she ruined Tink's life, refused to help Regina, made sure she separated Grumpy and Nova, tried to make sure you and my brother never met, lied to you about the wardrobe, and probably a lot of other crap we don't know about," James warned.
"I know...and Winter had every right to punish her. But I am releasing her, because I am going to show her that I'm not like her and all of us being happy is what really gets to her. I mean...she'll always be miserable and alone and I think that's far worse than being a garden gnome," Snow replied. David smirked.
"She has a point," he agreed.
"If you say so, brother," James said, as they raised the chalice and undid the spell that Winter had placed on her. Blue returned to her human form and size and immediately glared at Snow.
"Where is she?" Blue asked.
"If you're referring to my darker half...we rejoined with them," Snow replied.
"The curse is broken and Seth is dead," David added.
"You...you rejoined with your evil halves? Are you both insane?" Blue hissed.
"Wow...you're welcome. We could have left you like you were and let the birds land their droppings on you for eternity," Aphrodite interjected.
"No one was talking to you, bimbo," Blue snapped.
"Hey!" James shouted, as he got in her face.
"You can be an ungrateful, evil bitch since we know that's your true nature, but you're not going to call my wife names and disrespect her ever again," he growled.
"I liked you better when you were dead," Blue hissed back.
"What is wrong with you?" Snow demanded to know.
"I should ask you that! You were rid of your dark half and you reabsorbed her?" Blue asked.
"Yes...being whole was the only way to save our family and the United Realms. Seth was the true evil. All Winter ever wanted was for me to stop ignoring her and accept my darkness. I have...we both have and we have never been more at peace than we are now," Snow responded.
"You are still such a naive little Princess," Blue spat.
"Hey!" David shouted at her.
"She is Queen of Misthaven...your Queen and you better start showing her some respect," he said, but she ignored him.
"I'll take my wand back now," Blue said.
"That's not happening," Aphrodite refuted.
"It's locked away where you'll never get to it again," James added.
"You have no right!" Blue said hotly.
"She has every right!" James roared.
"She has holes in her memory and some silly story that Zeus told her about her being created from magic sea foam! And for some reason, Athena is too afraid to tell her anything else, but I know it's only because there must be something that is forbidding her from doing so...and I have a gut feeling that you have a lot to do with it," he added.
"I have no idea what you're talking about," she refuted, as she turned away.
"The Horned King...he said I was cursed. I want to know what he meant," Aphrodite called. Blue paused and Snow was almost sure she saw a note of recognition on Blue's face, before it disappeared.
"Then ask this Horned King," she retorted.
"Can't...he's dead. He was too dangerous to be kept alive," James replied.
"Well, then I guess you're out of luck," Blue mused.
"No...you know something. I can tell!" Aphrodite shouted.
"The only thing I know is that you're not cursed and the holes in your memory are simple," Blue said.
"You're an empty headed ditz that can barely remember her own name, let alone your past. But it's no wonder...you've spent thousands of years on your back and I guess you've just had your pretty head banged against one too many headboards," Blue sneered and Snow gasped at her outright cruelty. She saw tears fill the Goddess' eyes.
"You know that I'm not what the legends portray me as...you know I have only been with two men in my entire existence," she countered.
"Have you? You're the one that says she has holes in her memory," Blue taunted.
"Then tell me!" Aphrodite pleaded.
"Even if I knew...I'd never tell you anything, Goddess of love, beauty, and pleasure. Men certainly have enjoyed your talents...as I'm sure he does," Blue replied, as she walked away, leaving Aphrodite more confused than ever.
"Told you letting her go was a bad idea," James grumbled.
"She's a bitter old hag that no one will ever love. She's probably lying just to get under your skin," David said.
"He's right," Snow said, as she took her hands in her own.
"She won't help you...but I know Rose will and I'll go with you right now," Snow said, as they hugged.
"Thank you Snow," she replied. They were about to get back in their cars when David's phone rang.
"Sheriff," he answered, seeing that it was a call forwarded to his cell from the station. He sighed, as he listened to the person on the other end.
"Okay...yeah, I'll be there soon," he said, as he hung up.
"Trouble?" she asked.
"A body...on Pleasure Island," he replied. James sighed too.
"We better get Dad and Hook. They know that place best," he said.
"Yeah...we'll bring Emma too," David agreed.
"But Charming...that place is resistant to magic," Snow fretted.
"Resistant to it, but not impervious. Take the Chalice with you if you must go there," Aphrodite advised. David nodded and kissed Snow tenderly.
"We'll be fine...I promise," he assured. She nodded. James kissed his wife as well and she clung to him for a moment.
"You're my true love and I know you...I know your heart. Whatever is in your past...it would never make me love you less," he promised, as he kissed her again. She nodded and they watched them take the squad car, before getting into Snow's car with the little ones. Snow put it gear and they turned the corner to begin the short thirty minute drive to Andresia to visit Rose Red.

JJ looked around the reserve in wonder, as they got out of the car with Summer's older brother and his soon to be wife, Elsa. Elsa...the Queen of Arendelle and he noticed his cousin's glare on the blonde was perhaps even more intense than the ones she had been shooting Summer. That shouldn't have been surprising though. Nora hated most Disney movies, but none more than Frozen.
"This place is incredible…" he uttered.
"Yeah, it's pretty amazing," Summer agreed.
"And your brother runs this whole place?" JJ asked. She nodded.
"Leo can speak to animals," she replied.
"Seriously?" JJ asked. She nodded.
"All animals?" he asked. She nodded again.
"Yeah...we're pretty sure he gets it from Mom. She can communicate with birds. That's about the only part of the Disney story that's true," Summer replied, as Nora snorted in annoyance.
"And here I was hoping your Mommy would break out into song over a wishing well," she said derisively.
"Nora...you're in one of the coolest places ever. You might want to tone down your inner bitch," he retorted, as she glared at him.
"Yeah...he's right. The animals sense emotions and your clear dislike will not register well with them," Leo warned.
"Are you threatening me?" Nora asked.
"No...but if you don't want to be here, then you shouldn't be. Aren't you a reporter? This is like the scoop of the century to a reporter, right?" he asked.
"Oh this place is a scoop...but I'm looking for real dirt. That's what people really want. This is all nice and flowery and all. But people want to read about scandal and dirt," she said.
"Well, I'm afraid you're not going to find that here," Leo replied. Nora smirked.
"Oh no...this town is lousy with juicy details and shady things in people's pasts. But you're right, it's not here, so I'll be on my way to find the real story," Nora said, as she walked away.
"I'm so sorry about her…" JJ apologized.
"Yeah...how the hell did she get like that?" Leo asked, as Elsa smacked his arm.
"What? It's a valid question!" he retorted.
"Maybe, but you could be more tactful," she chided. He snorted.
"I'm a Charming...we have no tact. It's part of our...well, charm," he joked and she smirked at him in amusement. It was, there was no doubt about that. JJ smiled.
"It's okay...he's right, it's a valid question, but maybe we can talk about that later. I'd rather just get a tour, if you don't mind," JJ said.
"Not at all," Leo replied, as he whistled and JJ was amazed when four unicorns, include Sparkle, galloped toward them.
"Sparkle...I missed you!" Summer called, as the unicorn nuzzled her affectionately.
"Ready for a ride?" she asked. JJ smiled.
"Definitely," he agreed, as they prepared to take a full tour of the reserve via a ride on the unicorns.

Rise of Skywalker ramblings
Saw RoS last night and loved it.
I’d seen the mixed reviews and was a bit apprehensive going in, but was pleasantly surprised in a lot of ways.  It kept some of the spirit of TLJ that I liked while still delivering a lot of the “safer” Star Wars story that I expected.  Being part of a super enthusiastic opening night crowd is always fun too.  And it’s nice to see that I’m not the only person who liked the whole 7-8-9 trilogy!
Spoileriffic thoughts below.
--Rey Palpatine was one of the theories I’d kicked around, but it would have been nice if she really was nobody, like the Force doesn’t care who you’re related to. Timeline-wise she would have been better off as his great-granddaughter but I completely buy Sheev having lots of kids and/or having some later in life.
--I’d been running with the “Skywalker is the new name for Force user” theory for a while, but I’m OK with Rey adopting it as her last name.  She doesn’t have to be a Palpatine and the name of the family that saved the galaxy is continuing.
--HOLY CRAP FINN IS FORCE SENSITIVE.  I would love it if that was what he wanted to tell Rey.  (Best answer from Reddit: “I’m in love with Poe and don’t know how to tell him!”)
--Ben Solo didn’t make it to the end!  I was convinced he’d get a redemption arc and live happily ever after. Props to JJ/whoever for going in that direction, especially with the Jedi fadeout.
--The opening crawl getting right to "oh hey the emperor isn't really dead.” So happy they didn't drag out the “when-do-we-see/hear-the-emperor???” mystery
--Sheev Palpatine and his motherfucking contingencies for contingencies, plans-within-plans shit.  This guy was a thousand steps ahead of everyone else, all the time.  Got a glimpse of that in Empire’s End too.
--LOL the tank of Snoke clones.  Sheev loves his clones, in both canon and legends!
--Poe’s lightspeed skipping.  Poe being an ex-spice runner.  Poe and Zorii!  Poe in general.  Poe is great.
--Luke/Leia training flashback!!  Leia's lightsaber!!!!  Which she presumably built herself!!!!!
--3-way Finn/Poe/Rey hug.  And the sound of a thousand fanfics being composed…
--More First Order defectors who had been kidnapped as children.  (Also a plot point in Empire’s End, complete with a 6-year-old-ish Armitage Hux ordering around a group of kidnapped-and-brainwashed child recruits)
--Hux being the mole, not because he agrees with the resistance, but because he hates Kylo Ren.  I bet he was hatching a plan as soon as Snoke was killed.
--Force-healing onscreen!  And it wasn’t just “Force magic” (which I also would have been OK with), it was actual taking life from one to give to another.
--Rey was noticeably better at lightsaber fighting.  She was… not great in TFA.  Only slightly better in TLJ.  Her year of training really shows and I like that we’ve seen a pretty clear progression.
--Rey stopping that transport with some Kyle Katarn shit and Kylo trying to get it back and OH SHIT REY SHOT OUT FORCE LIGHTNING
--Palpatine: GLADoS edition has been added to my recent “horrifying scene that works but really gives me the creeps” list (also includes flashback to Coulson resuscitation/brain surgery with him repeating “just let me die” on Agents of SHIELD, Brainy getting rebooted on Supergirl)
--Aside from his GLADoS-esque support arm complete with wires, I liked undead-Palpatine's look - missing fingers, whited-out eyes, and his transformation after he stole life from Rey & Kylo.  Especially the red-lined robes.
--Got serious Endgame vibes at the end with all the ships showing up. Husband unit also pointed out the parallel of “I am inevitable”/”I am Iron Man” and “I am all Sith”/”I am all Jedi”
--OMG ALL THE JEDI SPEAKING TO REY.  I didn’t recognize everything at first but I heard Obi-Wan (young & old), Yoda, Mace Windu, Ahsoka(!!!!!), and Anakin.  Per the credits, voices also included Qui-Gon(!), Luminara Unduli, Aayla Secura, Adi Gallia, and Kanan Jarrus(!!!!!).  Two notable absences: Cal Kestis and Ezra Bridger.  I can accept Cal’s fate as TBD since Fallen Order just came out, but this is really good news for Ezra.  I am now super super interested to see where these two have been.
--Kept the Rey/Kylo force-connection deal.  It weirded me out in TLJ but I’m really glad it was kept here.
--Wedge coming back for one last ride!  (and aging pretty well, wow)
--RIP Snap.  :-( I’d grown a bit attached to him after the Aftermath trilogy, but I think Norra and Brentin would have been proud.
-- ForceGhost!Luke has a new attitude; I guess being dead for a while tends to mellow you out.  I am still 100% OK with his character in this trilogy.
--Kylo not being as good at fighting after he dropped the dark-side allegiance – specifically the 6v1 fight against the Knights of Ren before he got the lightsaber.  Like he'd been into it so deep for so long he forgot how to fight without it.
--Han coming back one last time for some Ghost Dad Advice
--THANKS FOR NOT KILLING CHEWIE!!  I was seriously worried
--Rey fights herself!
--Where can I buy a replica of that Sith wayfinder?  I do like shiny force-user crystals/holocrons/etc
--Rey finally builds her own lightsaber!  And it’s yellow.
--TAKE THAT REYLOS: Oh you want a kiss huh?  There’s your kiss!  AND NOW HE’S DEAD.
--That whole scene.  Kylo staring at dead Rey.  Kylo force-healing Rey and bringing her back to life.  And now they’re staring at each other, and I’m thinking don’t kiss you idiots, don’t fucking do it.  FUCK they did.  I actually booed out loud.  (I will not deny being a little bit happy that Kylo died immediately after)
--All of the “are you happy Ep 7 & 8 haters???” stuff: Rey is super powerful because she’s Palpatine’s granddaughter, someone bringing up a “why don’t we Holdo this” argument and getting shot down with good reason, showing Leia’s Force powers with a flashback to being trained by Luke AND having her own lightsaber
--The urgent timeline got kind of.. muddled?  Forgotten?  They had 18 hours or 12 and still had time for all those spacejumps and Lando gathering friends from all over?
--A bit too on-the-nose with some of the ROTJ parallels.  Lando in disguise saving the day on a desert planet! Speeder bike chase!  Emperor taunting Our Hero while their friends are losing a huge battle outside!  A Skywalker dies so Our Hero can live!
--Also wondered if one of the writers played SWTOR: Emperor who really isn’t dead uses Super Mega Force Lightning and tries to jump into Our Hero’s body to take over their mind.
After chewing on this for a day, here’s my ranking of Skywalker/Palpatine saga films from best to worst:
5 > 8 > 9 > 4 > 7 > 6 > 3 > 2 > 1
And including Solo and Rogue One:
5 > Rogue One > 8 > 9 > 4 > 7 > 6 > 3 > Solo > 2 > 1
tbh I’m so far into the “inject all Star Wars content directly into my veins pls” territory that I can’t say I hate any of it, and even the cringiest prequel moments are leaps and bounds ahead of a lot of other junk I’ve watched/read/played.  So much about Star Wars is just FUN, and I will gladly handwave away most of my nitpicks (SpeedForce, I ain’t gotta explain shit) for the sake of enjoying the story.  Even the ridiculous stuff that I poke fun at is still a part of the whole mess; it can’t all be great or even good or OK and that is fine with me.  [NOTE: I have not watched the Holiday Special but the husband unit is weirdly enthusiastic about me doing so; it may happen yet this year.]
I really like this comment from the A.V. Club.  More cynical than my overall take on the whole shebang but I totally know with where they’re coming from.  I don’t agree with all the responses but it’s a pretty good discussion.

Adopting An Angel 4
Warnings: foster care feelings, language, violence (not toward a character), hatred toward person,
Word count 2250ish
Summary:  YN gets some frustrating news and doesn’t take it well.
AN- I don’t know a lot about the court system, so sorry if it’s not correct, but I hope you like it anyway.  Danneel is a boss.
Danneel, Jensen, and the kids. Aaron!Caseworker
Tumblr media
YN had been living with the Ackles’ for a few weeks. They were off to Dallas for Easter to visit Jensen’s family. YN was beyond nervous.
Will they like me?
Do I look nice?
I can’t do this.
“Danneel?”
“What’s up, YN?” The mom of four was packing the little ones’ clothes for the trip. She noticed YN’s tense body. “Are you nervous?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“I’ll make you a deal. I’ll give you some inside information on Jensen’s parents if you help me get the babies ready,” she grinned. “Do you know how nervous I was to meet the cutest boy in Hollywood’s parents?”  YN giggled.
“Okay,” YN responded. “I don’t want them to hate me. I love being here, and I don’t want to be moved because I mess up,” she stated honestly.
“Kiddo, look at me. We aren’t going to have you put anywhere else other than here. They are sweet and adorable, and they will want to crush you with hugs because they already love you. You won’t mess it up. YN, you make life fun, we want you here.”
“What if I say something mean on accident or don’t shake their hands, or have good manners?”
“The fact that you are worried so much tells me that you will be fine in all of those areas, YN.” Danneel stroked her arm, halting her packing. They both heard Arrow crying through the baby monitor. Danneel already had Zeppelin in her arms while trying to pack, so YN volunteered to go get her.
____________
On the road trip from Austin to Dallas, YN played with JJ in the back seat.  They counted, sang the alphabet, and giggled.  A lot.  After about an hour, JJ fell asleep.  YN didn’t mind. She ended up holding JJ’s hand and falling asleep too.
“Psst! Jay!” Danneel whispered as her husband drove. He glanced at her and then back at the road. “Look at our girls,” she smiled. He used the mirror to view the backseat. Once he saw they were both out, he grinned and grabbed Danneel’s hand.
“She’s so perfect,” Jensen commented with a smile.
_______________
They arrived at Jensen’s parents’ house soon after the Ackles’ children woke up from their naps.
“Deep breath, you’ll be okay, I promise,”  Danneel whispered as she, Jensen and YN unbuckled and took the younger ones out of the vehicle.
“Thanks,”  YN faintly smiled.
Introductions went well.  YN felt welcomed in Jensen’s parents’ home.  They didn’t treat her any differently than the other three children of the family.  By keeping the expectations the same for all, YN felt included.  She slowly contributed to conversation, but she still needed some prompting from the adults.
“You’re fine, YN.  You’ve come out of your shell so much since we first met you,”  Jensen told her when he noticed she was off to the side of the living room.  “You need a break?”  She nodded. “Okay, come on.”  He told Danneel that YN, he and the twins were going on a walk.
“Okay.  Have fun!”
_____________
When they entered the house after their walk, the four moved toward the sound of Danneel’s voice.
“Her mom is filing for custody? Is she truly ready though? Aaron, she is settled here and she-“ Danneel stopped when she heard a gasp. “I gotta go, thank you for your time.”
YN’s eyes went wide as she realized what was going on.
No. Aaron can’t move me again!
She wanted to run, but she had Arrow in her arms. YN sniffled, put Arrow down next to her toys and walked swiftly out of the house Into the backyard. Danneel ran after her. She found YN in the corner of the yard behind a shed, broken.
“No! I don’t want to go!” YN screamed when she saw Danneel.
“I know,” she kept his voice calm as she sat next to her in the dirt. Danneel let her cry and didn’t stop YN when she threw some rocks against the fence.
“Is it really going to happen? She’s a bitch. She doesn’t care about me,” YN told of her mother. “She’s tried this before, Danneel. It worked once, but then she was caught with drugs so I went back in to foster care. I can’t go back and forth. I’m tired,” YN recovered.
“I don’t know how far along in the process this is, but we can tell the judge what you just said. But if and until it actually happens, we will think good thoughts,” Danneel gave YN a hopeful smile. “We will not let this ruin our vacation, okay?”
“Yes, ma’am,” YN wiped away a stray tear.
“Do you like working out, YN?”
“I’ve run track before, why?”
——————-
“You ready?”  Danneel had convinced YN to get up early and go for a run with her.
“Yes, but why are we doing this?”
“Because you need a stress reliever. Physical activity helps,” Danneel walked passed her.  “Come on!”
They were both surprised with each other’s stamina. Both ladies ran two miles and then headed in for some coffee before everyone else woke up.
“Feel better?” Danneel untied and took off her running shoes.
“Yes, actually. Thank you.”
“Breakfast?”
“Yes, please.”
————————
Aaron called again. Danneel and Jensen went to talk to YN after the younger ones were asleep.
“Hey, YN. Whatcha doing?” Jensen led his wife into YN’s room.
“Reading,” she answered. “I heard you on the phone with Aaron. What’s going on?”
“Well,” Jensen started as he sat on her bed and took her hand, “he said that your mom has filed for cus-“
“DAMMIT! Why? She is scum, Jensen! You can’t let her have me!” YN was beyond angry. She stood up and threw her pillow across the room. YN knocked the J2 picture off of her side table and broke the frame. The teenager pounded her fists into her bed and then started hitting herself. Danneel moves from her seated position on the floor to YN and grabbed her wrists away from her body. This allowed Jensen to put her small frame on his lap and squeeze her tightly.
“I don’t know, baby, I really don’t.” He wanted to cry, himself. Jensen hated this for her.
————
“Do you think we handled that well, babe?” Danneel climbed into bed next to Jensen.
I think so. I can’t blame her. She’s been through hell, Dee. We don’t know a lot of it, either. We just gotta be there for her.”
“Yeah. I just feel so bad.”
“Dee,” she looked up at him as he said “we have to be objective. Yes, this whole situation with her mom sucks, but YN will be all over the place emotionally for a while. Her whole life is changed over and over. Unfortunately it is sad and we feel it, but she needs us strong. I know that puts a lot on you with the other kiddos but she can’t see us be upset, ya know?”
“I get it. She’s amazing. It breaks my heart-“ Danneel was interrupted by a knock on the upper half of the door.
YN.
“Come in!” The parents were surprised by YN needing something so late.
She opened it and said “I can’t sleep. I’m so sorry, but I didn’t know what else to do. I’m so tired, but I can’t.“
“We understand,” Danneel smiled. “How can we help get you to sleep?” YN looked everywhere but her foster parents. “Just ask, YN. No judgements here. I had a baby monitor in my room until I moved out because I had nightmares. It’s okay to ask for help.”
“Can you hug me?” YN asked out of embarrassment. “I need a hug.”
“I’ll do you one better. Why don’t we have a slumber party in the living room, just you and me?” Danneel wished her foster daughter could relax, but she knew the whole situation kept them all on edge.
“Really?”
“Let’s do it,” Danneel got out of bed, grabbed her pillow and a few extra blankets, kissed her husband and exited.
“I’m sorry, Jensen. I’m sure you don’t get a lot of time with Danneel. Now I stole her from you.”
“Stop saying you're sorry. Do you think you need Danneel around to fall asleep?” He sat up.
“Uhhh. I think so.”
“Then you have nothing to feel bad about. I’m about to go to sleep anyway. Now, get your butt down there before I have to carry you,” he grinned at his empty threat.
“Yes, sir,” YN laughed. “Goodnight, Jensen.”
—————-
“I think we have enough pillows and blankets, don’t you?” Danneel giggled.
“I think so too!” YN agreed. Even though they hadn’t really started their sleepover, YN was already relaxing. “Can I ask you something?”
“Of course!”
“I loved One Tree Hill. I saw reruns, but how was it?  Being on a show like that?  Chad Michael Murray was hot.”
“Haha! A learning experience for sure. But we had fun,” Danneel answered.
“Cool. That slap between you and Sophia was so scary,” YN added.
“I was terrified,” Danneel admitted. “I thought for sure one of us was going to get hurt. I’m so glad you liked the show.”
“How did you meet Jensen?”
After what seemed like forever, YN fell asleep on a pile of pillows.
——————
Jensen walked into the living room with JJ the next morning.
“Can we wake them up?” JJ wanted to jump into the fun.
“Gently. Let’s not scare them, okay?” He was afraid it would be too much for YN.
“Okay,” JJ said. She walked over to YN and kissed her check, lied on top of her, and waited. YN stirred, and Jensen laughed, waking up Danneel.
“Did you ladies have fun last night?” Jensen raised a brow.
“She told me all your secrets, Jensen.” YN beamed  and sat up with JJ now on her lap. She wanted to see how far she could take this. She’d known the family well enough now that she could try some trouble.  “Danneel told me about the time you were on set and you messed with Misha and the computer screen-“
“OKAY! Probably not for a little one’s ears. Dee!  Such a traitor!” He looked back at YN. “Glad you had some time together. Proud of you, YN.” He saw how much she was opening up. Aaron was right, she was very funny.
“Thanks, Jensen.”
____________
Danneel sat down with YN a few weeks later.
“Aaron called.”
“Great.  What did the Bad News Bear have to say now?”  YN hated it.  All of it.
“Manners, kiddo.  It isn’t Aaron’s fault.”
YN ducked her head. “Sorry,” she returned her gaze.
“The hearing is coming up, baby.”
“I’ll start packing,”  YN stood from her bed and grabbed a bag.  At this point, she was so used to change, she just assumed she would soon be changing homes.  Again.
“What? Why?”  Danneel took the bag and tossed it back in its place. “I will fight for you, YN.  We don’t want you to go.  I don’t know your mom’s story.  You can tell us as you feel comfortable, but I do know that you are sweet, and kind, and caring, and you are not those things when you talk about her. That tells me that something bad happened where she lost your trust.  You’ve been here for a while, do you like living here?”
“Of course.  I love it here, but it never works out for kids like me, Dee.  In the system, we aren’t worth shit.”
“Okay, then let’s make her work for getting you back. You are worth so much more than you think, YN.  We will do our best in this yucky situation.  And you are not allowed to pack until they drag you out of here, capiche?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Now, don’t you have some homework to do?”
“Ugh.  I hate homework,” she whined using a high-pitched voice.
“That ain’t gonna fly.  Get busy,” Danneel laughed and left the room.
_____________
It was now summer.  Jensen was on hiatus, and the older children were out of school.  YN was thankful that they could all be together for her court hearing.
“You ready, YN?”  Danneel walked in and saw her packing. “Hey!  What. Did. I. Say?”
“It’s gonna happen.  It always does.  I haven’t seen her since I was nine, Dee.  Nine!  And now she wants me back?  She wants control, that’s what she wants!’  YN threw a shirt into her suitcase with emphasis.
Danneel walked to YN.  “YOU are giving her the control right now.  Look at how angry you are right now.  You are fifteen years old.  You have more power than you think.  Did you finish your speech for the judge?”
“Yes, but I’m afraid I will just yell.”
“Jensen and I will be right there.  We’ll help you.”  Danneel faced YN and put her hand on YN’s shoulder, still respecting YN’s boundaries about touch.  YN almost ran into Danneel’s arms.  “We’ll figure it out.”
__________
When they arrived at the courthouse in their formal clothes, YN started shaking.  Others wouldn’t have noticed, but her foster parents did.  Danneel grabbed her hand and squeezed it three times.  “I love you,”  Danneel didn’t even look at YN to know that calmed her down.
“Ditto,” YN responded.
They walked into their assigned courtroom where they met Aaron at the prosecution table.
“Hey, YN,” Aaron smiled faintly.  He knew she hated the predicament she was in.
“Can we just get this over with please?”  YN’s attitude turned sour.  Jensen and Danneel noticed, but they didn’t respond.
As they waited for the judge, they heard, “Hey, YN baby.  How you doin’?”
YN turned, “Hi, Mom.”

So, TLJ
I was going to wait until I saw it again, but ... ehhh let’s get this done. God this post is gonna be long. I’m gonna miss stuff.
I have 6 main gripes with this movie and I want to get those out of the way first.
That should have been Anakin, not that shitty-ass space frog. Fuck Yoda.
The codebreaker Maz sent them for should have been Lando, and “we didn’t have time for Lando” is still nonsense.
Rian, that is a bladderbuster of a movie, we did not need the milking scene, pal.
Also Joss Whedon gets tiresome, let’s dial back the jokes per second yeah? SW is tonally different from Avengers, let’s not make them all samey same.
Why was there no mourning for Han that was visible instead of only learned through “The Art of TLJ” (Leia’s hairstyle was Alderaanian mourning braids.)
... MOAR PHASMA, are you for real with this 0.3 seconds nonsense.
Now, I was so incredibly underwhelmed by TFA (I have literally never watched it since I saw it in theaters one time per my obligation as a Star Wars fan, I felt like JJ Abrams didn’t even care enough to make an original movie) that I wasn’t jazzed about TLJ.
I was very, very, very wrong in that. Holy fuckballs was I ever fucking wrong.
Luke
The flashback trio, holy SHIT. The sanitized, Obi-Wan’d version. Kylo’s “Bilbo seeing the ring” scary-ass wrong version. And finally, Luke’s “I fucked up so so much” version. Luke has always struggled with the Dark Side, with his anger. You see it at the end of RotJ where he’s just hammering on Vader, until he goes a step too far and goes “oh my god what am I doing.”  And then you find out that he bought his own hype, and the Order’s own hype, and drifted close to the Dark Side again, thanks to past trauma from dealing with Vader and his own established tendency to come close to the dark.
But he regrets it so so much. Mark’s monologue talking about that, where you can hear the pain and regret and guilt in his voice, it’s some of his best acting. Luke, driven by shame over what he almost did, driven by survivor guilt, ends up in a very dark place. Shame and guilt are real fucking beasties, and feeling that you failed your students, your nephew, your best friend, your sister, and the galaxy? Jesus. It makes my heart hurt just thinking about it.
And then finally, someone with the same kind of optimism he used to have shows up, a real genuine Rey of Sunshine as it were. And she does exactly what he did with Vader. She tries, even though she has less of a dog in this fight than he does, and it’s just .... i love it, guys.
That force projection. GodDAMN. Even Threepio can see him! HOLY SHIT.
The mirroring of his sacrifice, buying our heroes time, of Obi-Wan’s, was so poignant.
I cried like a baby all through the scene with him and Carrie. It was so good.
And then his scene with Kylo, with this man who’s just devoured by anger and feelings of inadequacy and this desperate need to prove himself to a shitty-ass authority figure (Snoke). It was excellent.
Basically A+ all around, gave Luke nuance and a real depth of character that I wasn’t expecting but I loved after I’d really sat and ruminated on it. He’s always been so positive, and things worked out for him (mostly), and this failure (and there’s the theme of the movie, how you handle failure) just walloped him upside the head and it felt so very, very real to me. <3
I also cried when his robes blew off that rock on Ahch-To. (I cried a lot in this movie lmao)
“Where’s Han?” (me: “fuck me i’m crying a lot.”)
Leia
SPACE MOM OMG <3
Look even if i’d hated the rest of this movie, I was going for Space Mom.
She’s so tired of fighting. She’s so tired of losing that which she loves most. She’s so ready to just sit down and rest. But she won’t, because Leia is the most resilient, and so stubborn and determined and fierce and amazing. Even getting shot into goddamn space isn’t going to stop her.
LEIA USING THE FORCE AND BY GOD SHE HAS SO MUCH STRENGTH IN IT because she’s so very much also Anakin’s kid. <3
Leia being so done with Poe’s nonsense. She’s not going to keep seeing these wholesale sacrifices. Winning doesn’t matter if you don’t have anyone left. The Resistance is not cannon fodder. They are not the First Order, and their people matter.
Every single scene with Leia I loved. All of them.
The hurt, and the pain, and the resignation in her voice when she says her son is gone, it broke my heart guys. You can tell she isn’t happy about it. You can tell she didn’t arrive at this decision lightly. Letting go of a family member who’s determined to pursue something destructive is hard as fuck. I’ve seen it happen in my own family. Leia has lost so, so much. Her planet, her parents, her adoptive parents, her husband, her son, and now she knows she’s losing Luke too? I just ... my heart.
Leia and Rey at the end!  <3  Loved it.
the goddamn tribute before the credits, yep cried there too.
Rey
God I love Rey.
Zero time for Kyle Ron’s nonsense.
GET REKD NERD /vrooms off in the Falcon
Her strength of character, her mirroring of Luke’s attempt at redemption, her positioning as light to dark, her “fine fuck you I’m leaving” when redemption is rejected, I love everything about Rey.
THE REUNION WITH FINN <3
The introduction to Poe
Did I mention I love Rey? I love Rey. Rey is so driven and determined and amazing. <3 She has no time for an old-ass man’s nonsense. She has no time for a gold bathrobe wearing man’s nonsense. She has no time for Kyle Ron’s nonsense. “Look I have shit to get done so lead, follow, or get the fuck out of my way.” When Luke wouldn’t stand up (because he’s still fighting his own personal demons), she goes “fine, I’ll do it myself.” When Kyle Ron wouldn’t actually burn down the past, she goes, “fine, I have things to do.”
Rey is the Actual Best.
Rey uses her anger! Holy shit I love that.
Kylo Ren
Look I have to give massive props to Adam Driver. The way he plays someone who’s been emotionally abused, fuck, that shit was giving me flashbacks to my own life. (snoke reminds me of my mom lmao my childhood was great.)
Unlike TFA, I actually found him compelling as a character this time.
That scene in the elevator actually sort of hurt my heart a little. “Okay, FINE. You don’t think I’m anything? You think I don’t deserve this? THEN I’LL FUCKING SHOW YOU, I’LL DO IT WITHOUT IT, I’LL BE BETTER THAN YOU EVER EXPECTED” and the unspoken “and then you’ll finally accept me”. I got a little choked up, thanks past trauma.
God I remember trying for decades to get my mom to love me, to say something nice that she meant, to just pretend she liked me. You agree with horrible shit, you feel beat down all the time, all trying to make this truly awful person think you’re somebody.
So I understand part of Kylo Ren’s drive, tbh.
But he still chose the Space Nazis TWICE. And threw off the love of his family and his uncle. So fuck that jackass.
Look, my mom left literal scars on my face, and i didn’t burn down my school, murder the students, and go join the Hitler Youth.
He’s the embodiment of “prior trauma does not excuse current actions”
A+ to Adam Driver for playing a character I can go “oh man that sucks, but I would still space your ass in half a second you shitty-ass human being.”
Finn
I love Finn so so so much and I could watch a whole movie just about Finn and Rose and Rey and Poe just ... generally wrecking rich people’s shit around the galaxy ngl.
I wish the fight with Phasma was longer. That was a bit of a letdown.
But Finn is just perfect. I love him.
Can we talk about how he looked like an Actual Disney Prince running over to make sure Rose was okay? Because he did and I loved it.
Also how he was totally prepared to give his life to save the Resistance because he has something to fight for, and I wasn’t SUPER sure he was going to be stopped and my heart was in my throat that whole time because Finn you fucking precious human being you. <3
THE REUNION oh my god 12 seconds of sublime perfection. THEY WERE SO HAPPY. (i cried. but i bet you knew that already lmao)
Rose
Cute, takes no shit, period. Love her. Awkward and adorable and just fantastic.
She felt very reminiscent of Cassian with her “I’ve been fighting this my whole life” stance, and I loved it.
Little acts of kindness can have huge rippling effects on the universe. <3
I can’t wait to see more of her.
Watching her and Finn totally fucking up rich people’s days, goddamn that was satisfying as fuck.
I liked the kiss. It was pretty clear she was crushing on Finn the whole time (well maybe not to Finn lmao), it wasn’t drawn out. It didn’t make anything canon, and while I may be all about Finnrey and get more of a brotp vibe from Finnrose, I certainly wouldn’t be mad if it ends up going that way. I thought it was cute. “Fuck it, i’m gonna do it before i pass out.”
Poe
Poe getting schooled by two older, more experienced women, A+.
Poe reminded me of Saw Guerrera, actually, speaking of Rogue One parallels. He wants to win, no matter the cost. Let’s remember that Saw ended up leaving the main body of the Rebellion over this.
I thought Poe’s arc was great, tbh. He learned that you have to be able to ADAPT.
I’m still personally “eh” on not disclosing anything, but at the same time, even if Holdo had told him at least a general idea of what was going on, I think he still would have sent Rose and Finn, he still would have staged the mutiny. His entire thing is “i know better” when he doesn’t, and he learns that he certainly does not always know better. There was a LOT of character growth there, and I loved it. So much of this movie adds depth to characters. <3
That intro to Rey! I loved it so much.
POE AND BB8, enough said, god they were cute. THEY HAD A FOREHEAD TOUCH. <3
General things I really liked
that scene where Holdo jumps into the ship. utter silence, light spilling forth from a source of darkness, GODDAMN that shit gave me chills. Amazing.
The aesthetics, as always. Star Wars movies are just beautiful.
Porgs! Jesus they were cute.
“Jakku pretty much is nowhere.” lmao fucking sassy-ass skywalker men
Literally everything with Chewie.
THE SOUNDTRACK.
Snoke Bond Villain-ing it up and promptly dying lmao. “Let me reveal everything about my plan including the fact that I faked this Force bond thing” /pulls a Darth Maul
THAT LIGHTSABER FIGHT GODDAMN. “The enemy of my enemy is my friend” basically.
Luke flicking invisible dust off his shoulder.
there’s a lot more but uh yeah i liked this a lot. I’m going to go see it at least one more time.

Criminal Minds s01e12 What Fresh Hell review
Episode 12 – What Fresh Hell
Hey guys! So last episode was like so intense, I was on the verge of like – what the actual fuck is going on here? – the entire episode. This episode’s name isn’t really better, but let’s hope we get more Penelope, at least.
Alrighty, let’s get to it.
Ok, so I paused the episode on 00:00 right before I went to work so it was queued up, and to be honest? It just came on like this:
Tumblr media
kind of ominous and foreshadowing, imo. You know, the whole steeple bit
Ok, I’m ready, got my popcorn and water on. Let’s dive in.
Oh, so cute! Girl soccer!
Ok, so bitchy mom coach and she’s just being mean to her daughter. Ugh. I would have had a bad attitude if I had a mom like that.
Great, divorced parents.
Um, a stranger comes up to you, you go away! You walk away! Ugh. He’s a smart bastard, but seriously why do people have to be so fucked up to lure kids into their cars and kidnap them? Damn it.
Lol, so it’s kind of obvious that Gideon didn’t send Penelope the flowers but I love her so much for being so appreciative of his appreciation. I can’t with her!
What’s BTW? Oh Gideon,  you poor puppy.
And if he didn’t send the flowers, who did???
Yay Reid is going back to the scene. So cute.
By the way, did I mention that I hate child abduction cases? Ugh.
And again, why isn’t Kirsten a regular yet? Damn it.
W.H. Auden: “Evil is always unspectacular, and always human, and shares our bed and eats at our table.” Ew.
Well yeah, their kid is missing, of course the parents will break down, no matter what.
Aww that room looks so cute! That kid was probably the most adorable thing ever. And yeah, she lost her dog, poor thing. I have a dog and I love her to death and if something happened to her I would die of grief.
“Billie was being a pain as usual, giving me attitude” that is the worst mother in the world. Seriously, she’s your child. How can she be a pain? You know what, now I know I’m the luckiest person alive for having my parents as parents. They’re the best in the world.
Ooh, the dad is on site. Dang. This is gonna be interesting.
Yay, JJ is handling the press. Get it.
She knows one of the reporters? Wow. Haha, I love you!!!!!! “You may wanna rethink that tie” is her major scoop. Amazing.
Your phone was off. Ok. Why? Where the hell was he?
Whoa, Gideon just took stuff personally. I love him. I get him, how the fuck can a guy who claims to be devoted to his daughter turn off his cell. Sure he was in the hospital, but come on. Oh, wait, he has cancer. But still. He should’ve responded sooner.
Whoa, that mom is aggressive! “What’s a pedophile sex freak?” oh, shit, how can you explain that to a kid?
Aw, their attitude to kids is the cutest ever!
How can a girl talk to a stranger? Isn’t that the first rule people drill into kids’ heads? Don’t talk to strangers.
It goes against procedures, sure, but you’re already in enough trouble with this abduction case, so it times to go off book and try and lure him out. Come on, dick, think outside the box.
“Penelope Garcia’s house of ‘How May I Save Your Ass Today’.”
“Morgan, did you hear that Agent Gideon sent me flowers today?” “Oh, really?” “Jealous?”
Can I just hug those two together until their lips meld and they finally make out? Ugh.
Oh good, the lady finally has her eyes opened that her husband is sick for real this time and she’s been a dick. Lovely.
What the fuck is going on there? Where the fuck did that guy run off to? What the actual …
Why is that woman handing out fliers of sex offenders and triggering the guy? Elle is right, she is stupid.
Dennis Jones, he looks like a creeper. But why is Mr. Copeland aggressive on him? Come on, dude! You have no proof that he was the one who abducted Billie, let go if you don’t want to go prison you dumbass.
I get you’re desperate, but come on, man!
Ha, he remembers stuff from grade school when he’s 24, that’s messed up. I remember only the traumatic or really amazing stuff.
Great, now they found a body. Ugh. Really hope it’s not really that awful as I thought.
Aw, Gideon just pulled Spencer into a hug. So cute.
But we still don’t know who the body belonged to.
Oh no. That reporter is bad news. They found the body but didn’t tell the parents so they wouldn’t panic, but come on. No need to panic them.
And it’s finally confirmed that the body wasn’t Billie. Just awful that they put that amount of fear on the two of them, Jesus fucking Christ.
Just go and find the little fucker who thinks it’s okay to abduct a kid. Blah.
He got sick. He didn’t want them to see him die, so he filed for divorce? That guy is a coward. Can’t believe I thought I was defending him. So the mom took on the responsibility and painted a picture where she was the bad guy so the girl would still have a positive picture of her dad? Oh my god, that woman is beyond amazing. I’m sorry honey for being so harsh on you. You’re amazing. But you shouldn’t ever say that your daughter is a pain, okay?
Gideon is one amazing guy and I want him to stay forever on this show. This show will collapse without him, I know it.
‘Holy smokes! That was fast!’ yeah, you call the FBI about a suspect regarding kidnapping, their response is the fastest ever. And to be honest? You look creepy, too. But yeah your profile of Don is definitely on point.
Just get the bastard already and save Billie, you have less than 9 minutes to figure this out.
Weighing the law against the price of a door? That’s a kid inside that might die, come on! Fuck that! You go, Gideon, you go!
Oh wow, that’s a gun cocked straight into the forehead. Damn. Just find the kid, please.
What? How the fuck isn’t she there?
Just find the poor thing. She’s probably scared as hell.
It doesn’t matter if they don’t have a warrant, you fucker, you’re a bastard. You need to tell them everything and then go directly to jail.
Why are you looking at the broom, Gideon? What the fuck?
What are those fluffy white things? Wait, he’s hiding her in the vents? How fucked up does a guy have to be? Oh my god. The poor thing, oh my goodness. Fuck. This is the most fucked up kidnapping I’ve ever seen. Jesus fuck. Aw, Gideon is like the cutest thing ever and oh my god I’m just broken over this. But at least they found her okay. Fuck.
Elizabeth Barrett Browning: “Measure not the work until the day’s out and the labor done.” Smart.
No way, Spencer just won in poker. Word.
Hahaha Hotch sent Garcia flowers in Gideon’s name. I love him. “I already sent her a gift, an MP3 player, lasts longer. Unless she drops it or the battery dies, whichever comes first.” So she has two gifts now. “So she’ll think I’m sweet on her.” Elle’s face of doubt. Oh god. I love this show so fucking much. And Gideon is the fucking best in the entire world.
Oh wait, those photos on his mantel aren’t his family, but the victims he saved? Oh my god I love you beyond measure, Gideon, you perfect puppy.
Alrighty, so that’s it for episode 12. This was amazing. I loved every bit of it, it had the right level of emotion for a crime series, the right amount of comedic relief, the right amount of character development, just awesome.

Birthday bashful
Speechless Part 11!
Your name: submit What is this?
Tumblr media

~2 years later~
‘Well, as you all know I have had a girlfriend for a couple years now, and you all know her and love her, especially since she had gotten a spot on the show.” Jensen hesitated a second as the crowd began to cheer.  “She’s really changed my life, she made it.. hm.. she made it more vibrant, more lively, and I couldn’t ask for more even if I wanted to.” Jensen answered looking at the fan.
The world suddenly tipped upside down and you could see that you were leaving the backstage area.
 “JARED PUT ME DOWN!”
“No… I don’t think I will.” He replied jostling you as he carried you on stage and the whole room roared.
“Back off Squirrel, she’s my love interest.” Mark growled into the microphone.
“She’s mine!” Misha piped up.
“No she’s mine!” Jared exclaimed as he jostled you again.  Somehow someone leaked that your character was getting a love interest next season, that wasn’t Dean.  Nobody not even you knew who it was so of course the guys had to tease the audience.
“As you can see everybody loves angel, but back off,” Jensen said sending his best bitch face to the rest of the guys, smirked good naturedly, and dropped right back into the glare.  The crowd ‘Awe’d and laughed.
“Back to what I was saying.” Jensen replied. “I love you very much, and hopefully you will let me love you forever.” He said kissing your forehead,
“Sweet talker,” You replied batting his arm feeling your face grow hot.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Dude! Why didn’t you ask her?” Jared demanded,
“I’m not sure she wants to spend the rest of her life with me.” Jensen replied rubbing his neck. He made an excuse to have a guy’s night with Jared while you were curled up watching movies in your and Jensen’s hotel room with Gen.
“Are you crazy? She lives with you, she loves JJ, she gets along with Danneel. She is friends with everyone on the show, she is even on good terms with your family. She has integrated herself into every single part of your life and you aren’t sure if she wants to spend her life with you?”
“Well, I’m nervous okay, what if I’m only what she wants and not what she needs.”
“Isn’t that the point of being a husband? Being what they need, and want? She wants you that’s the first point, marriages don’t work if one party doesn’t want the other. She was having a hard time a couple years ago and you…
“Misha, it wasn’t me, she called Misha.”
“Because Misha didn’t have his kids with him, she was thinking about JJ even when she was in serious pain and trouble.” Jensen sighed knowing Jared was right.
“You were a douche, but you’ve given her what she needs, you found her that day sobbing, skin rubbed raw, you took the time to care for her, she needed to live with someone, you gave her that too. She needed to be loved and I know you love her, from the way you look at her. You’re in love with everything about her, completely enamored.”
“You’re right, I guess I just never have forgiven myself.” He replied. “I’ll ask her, I’ll ask her next weekend.”
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I don’t know Gen, he’s been so distant lately. What if he doesn’t love me anymore? You ask staring at your hands trying not to cry.
“Did you not hear the way he talked about you today, hun?”
“I did, but what if it is all an act or something?”
“Why would he be acting about that?”
“I don’t know. He just isn’t acting normal.”
“Maybe he’s nervous about something? Your birthday is coming up, he always clams up when he isn’t sure what to get you, remember last year when he picked me up to go shop with him. I had to leave you alone with Jared and the boys. I knew he would take care of them but he would have given them dinner of cotton candy and chocolate!” Gen laughed.
“Oh yeah,” You giggled, “but he seems even worse if it is nervousness. What on earth is so hard about a birthday present? Jensen and chocolate is good enough for me.”
“Men are weird.” She replied as she braided your hair as you sat in front of her blindly watching a movie on the tv. You two were sitting in the ‘living’ area of the hotel room so you two were chatting but supposed to be watching movies and eating chocolate.
“chocolate me.” Gen said bending down as you popped a dove chocolate in her mouth.
“Thank Chuck for chocolate,” You muttered as you grabbed a chocolate for yourself.”
“Amen,”
“So what do you think he’s going to get me? I hope nothing too big because I want to do something extremely nice for him for his next birthday, I would hate to be outshined.” You smile.
“Hm, I don’t know, you’ll have to wait and see.” Gen smirked knowingly.

What do you think of JJ's interview where he says Han was a poor husband and father?
Luckily someone on another board just gave me the quote because I can’t bring myself to seek out quotes from Abrams:
"Han is a scoundrel, a cheat, a braggart...He can't hold down a steady job and he can't stay out of debt...He's a cool guy and a reluctant hero. Those guys don't generally make good husbands or fathers. The first time we meet Han Solo, he's in a seedy cantina on the run from bounty hunters with a fast ship. To put a guy like that at home with the kids and a white picket fence would be a betrayal of his character. I don't believe that audiences would want to see that. You have to go with your gut. What feels right?"
Okay...being that my day job is interpreting the tax code, I certainly love to deconstruct...so let’s begin.
Scoundrel - yep, I’ll go with that. Han says that himself.
Cheat - jury’s out - he says he won the Falcon “fair and square” and he smuggles so if you count that, okay.
Braggart - He seems to brag more on his ship than himself but since he modified the ship, yeah, we’ll go there.
“He can’t hold down a steady job and he can’t stay out of debt” - and we start having problems here. Where is this canon? He’s an independent contractor/free trader who smuggles for hire. It’s not a 9-5 job but it’s a job, JJ, kind of like being a producer for hire...  “Can’t stay out of debt” - okay, here we fall completely apart.
THE ONLY DEBT WE SEE HAN HAVE IN THE OT IS TO JABBA. That’s the problem I have with the whole thing with two gangs trying to kill him in TFA. He’s only in debt to Jabba in the OT. That’s all we know about. He says in Empire - “if I don’t pay off Jabba the Hutt, I’m a dead man.” Nothing about anyone else. So that’s complete conjecture.
He’s a “cool guy and a reluctant hero” - okay, I might give ya “reluctant hero” but “cool guy”? Han is a cool guy for as long as it takes them to get to the Death Star, then that collapses in a heap. Would a “cool guy” say “fine, thank you, how are you?” to Imperials? And so on and so on...
Let’s also remember that Han has a life debt to a Wookie - who he saved from slavery. Who’s the reason Kenobi hires them in the first place. So what, you’re going to tell me Chewbacca hangs around with Han because Han doesn’t have any loyalty to anyone?
And then JJ adds the classic “generally” which I use a lot because it means that there are EXCEPTIONS TO THE RULE. For my money, Han is one.
“he’s in a seedy cantina on the run from bounty hunters” - uh, no he isn’t on the run. He’s in Jabba’s home base, Greedo isn’t technically a bounty hunter and if you consider him one - he’s ONE at that moment. The multiples come as his debt gets old in Empire because...say it with me...he spends THREE YEARS with the Rebel Alliance - he had decided to stay and is a “natural leader” per Leia. He’s working with the Rebellion - being a “good man” as General Riekkan says. Also, Vader rounds up the bounty hunters to set them on the path to find the Falcon. Where his son, the aspiring Jedi knight, who is goodness personified, hangs out.
Let’s not forget that one of the reasons Luke knows he has a chance with Vader is that he turned Han around - from “I stick my neck out for nobody” (to quote Bogie in Casablanca - who Han is clearly modelled on) to “Then I’ll see you in hell!”
Who the hell said anything about white picket fences, for one thing, JJ? No one. He can be a good husband and father without white picket fences.
The betrayal of the character is that everything he is after his first appearance in the cantina is completely ripped out of him. Harrison Ford has it in his performance because that’s who Han is. But the dialogue is tin eared - he can’t sell me that Han won’t take a map to Luke to Leia because it’s insane. I can’t buy he left Leia alone for years.
The other problem is...JJ saying to Adam Driver that Kylo feels his parents were bad because Leia worked too much and Han was never there is one thing. Saying that this is how these two characters ARE is completely different. It makes the villain a reliable narrator. It’s a cheap narrative because they wanted a way to make a villain that didn’t involve three movies and politics - because “everyone” says the prequels are bad - which is wrong. I read some nonsense about Kylo considering his parents terrorists which - okay, JJ if you’re going to do that we need politics - otherwise he’s a school shooter. Or it’s just his bad blood that makes him bad.
TFA takes all the growth from these three characters.
It takes Leia’s growth as going beyond her duty and fire for the rebellion to love Han and love Luke.
It turns Luke back into “I can’t get involved” without remembering that the reason he says that is he has a loyalty to his family! That’s why he can’t go with Obi Wan. So he runs from his new family?
It takes Han’s growth as a “reluctant hero” from wanting to leave at Yavin to becoming a general. So you’re going to tell me that 15 seconds after Endor, he decides “hey, y’know what, not so much” ? The Han who in Empire risks his life for both Luke and Leia on Hoth and then is basically sacrificed for them at Bespin, who is rescued by them from Jabba - that guy is going to say “see ya, bye”?
I’m sorry, to me, the Luke, Han and Leia I saw on that screen weren’t the people I knew. Leia wouldn’t put up with a Han like that and she wouldn’t still be putting duty above Luke and Han. Luke wouldn’t run off without a word to the two people he came across the galaxy to save and leave Han to die. Han wouldn’t just go back to smuggling and leave Leia and his own child in the lurch. It just doesn’t make sense to me.
So I couldn’t disagree more with JJ. It’s the same problem I have with “son of the daughter vs daughter of the son” - I KNOW THE PARENTS. I love the parents, I care what happens to them and I don’t want this ending for them. It betrays all they fought and sacrificed for. And worse, it’s done for boring melodrama - if Rey is one of their kids and was just left on Jakku? Well, she has to be or there’s no “mystery box.” Kylo hates them because....well, because he has to or the plot doesn’t work. It’s the worst kind of storytelling - shoving the characters into place to fit the plot no matter what, not using the characters to tell the story.
You could have had Rey and Kylo and Finn and Poe without destroying Luke, Han and Leia to get there. I have no idea how this is a “fitting sendoff” for these characters or how one damn thing in TFA “makes things right.”
And for everyone who says we have two more movies to go, well, Han Solo sure as hell doesn’t. He’s dead in an abyss like a Sith Lord, unless they want to come up with some deus ex machina to save him. He didn’t even get a funeral. He’s just dead and we’ll run off to the next plot point because who cares about smuggler trash anyway. That’s what JJ is implying - he never was a good man so who cares?
