hii u convinced me to play jedi fallen order and survivor a few months back n i finally finished both games !!
I went into the games knowing nothing about them other than what u had in ur drawings and so i was incredibly blind playing and that lowkey made it better :)
i also assumed that Cere was gonna betray everyone or turn evil bc i never saw her in ur TL4J au (now i know why she isnt which is great 🙃👍)
overall 10/10 that was awesome n i'm so glad i decided to play them !!
ah i'm so glad you enjoyed them, they're SUCH good games!!!!! the stories are amazing even when you know the twists but MY GOD do those moments hit hard when you don't know they're coming, you rlly played it the best way

I think maybe we should apologize for acting that way about Mass Effect Andromeda when at the very least they knew better than to write well loved characters they'd never worked with before

(so... uh... how far into dai do you have to get before it starts being good?)
#i thought da2 was worse than dao in almost every way#repetitive undetailed environments boring combat less player influence over the story less customization of the player character etc.#but it had one shining redeeming quality#and that was the characters#who i actually cared about more than the characters in dao#and lucky for da2 characters are the most important aspect of a game (for me at least)#and good characters can carry an otherwise mediocre game pretty damn far#but i have yet to find the redeeming quality of dai#i mean... it's pretty i guess? though i still needed mods to make a character that looks decent bc the character creator was lacking#but the environment is pretty and detailed i will give it that#but i've been at this eight hours and almost every quest is just go get an item and then go bring it to someone?#there's really minimal story to these quests#and the characters seem interesting but i've barely had opportunities to talk to them#even the ambient party dialogue seems significantly rarer than it was in either dao or da2#why should i care about people i'm not getting to know?#also do they really just go with 'templars and mages are both equally evil & crazy and we're gonna need to just kill all of them you see'#surely that can't be the whole conclusion to the templar-mage war?? there has to be more right??#i'll keep playing bc hopefully it gets better#to be fair i didn't actually like da2 until act 2#i liked dao right away but it still took a bit to get really good#so i think there's still potential here#we will see i suppose#dragon age#dai#dragon age critical

I wonder what the secret sauce is that separates work worthy of public ridicule and work worthy of respect. of course, this is completely subjective and dependent on how each individual responds to different things emotionally, both internally and in their external behaviour. so there probably isn't one sure-fire way of escaping the notion of "cringe", especially since you can never please everybody and honestly cringe culture is stupid, anyway.
I think of this concept a lot, bc there's plenty of earnestly-made art out there that people may consider too "overanalytical" for its subject matter. you know, imagine your standard deviantart-hosted comic or writings about a children's video game series that takes the world way beyond its original tone, or categorises things in a way that the source material likely never intended anyone to care about. there's a very (in)Famous comic along these lines that I'm sure came to a lot of your minds right now that was mercilessly torn apart online, long before the creator did anything actually morally despicable.
the most noticeable thing to elevate work above "cringe" is definitely having competent skills. if you can prove you've put the effort in on the technical side, then this usually makes your art more acceptable, compared to a more crude amateur or beginner, which is somehow a bad thing to be.
but there also seems to be some sort of rule that if you pepper enough irony or self-awareness into the work, it becomes palatable regardless of skill or subject matter? and that's no criticism of art that does this. "mr boop" could be defined as ironic, and I love that thing. but you have to do something, whether it's evident in the style, or the artist's demeanour, to show you're not That serious about this. you don't care That much about what you're making or anything. it's just interesting that you seem to have to put yourself down first before you can be seen to openly enjoy anything.

Lowkey I see the reactions to Chelsie’s game and the many different interpretations of it and the first thing I think of is “huh… this is how Tyler Crispen stans felt back in bb20”

I'm so curious if you'd ever considering running a bracket for big beautiful brown eyes
I've had some ideas for some appearance based polls in the past (like big baby cow eyes) but the problem is that I can't figure out a way to run them that feels right? idk I'm not saying that they're bad conceptually, in fact I'd be pretty interested in one ngl, but it feels like a different type of thing then what I'm doing here? if that makes sense? idk my favorite type of bracket to run has to do with like character tropes and whatnot, which this feels like a departure from in a way? and idk I might have to adjust some of the structure of the bracket too, at least in phrasing and how to do stuff like prelims. also the topic is pretty broad, with like most of the characters in bl qualifying, which complicates things for even submissions, so I feel like it would be best done split up into smaller pools of stuff to draw from (like by country or year or something else)
short answer: maybe but probably not cause it feels like a departure from what I'm doing but I also like the concept and would definitely promote anyone else who chose to do it!

Lineup of all of the characters that appear long enough to need a visual representation of them in the game lol
#I added a few people that you can randomly run into around town (like at the inn or in the forest or etc) and have very short conversations#with just to kind of flesh out the world a little more in a more natural-ish seeming way. Like nobody in the main cast would really#have much reason to talk about the actual city you're in or anything. Since most of them havent lived there that long anyway.#But if there's a ''city inspector'' that you can run into whilst he's writing up notes examining the local inn. then maybe there could be a#few dialogue options with him where you can ask about things like that. since he would know more about the area as an offical Government#Worker or etc. Optional of course. since I have to be so wary of my natural inclination to lore dump lol and am trying extra hard to make i#all stuff thats easily avoided/skipped. But for the people like ME who deliberately choose to exhaust every possible optional dialogue#option and explore every single inch of the world and try to collect as much information as possible - then there are a few extra places to#do that. Though obviously not all of them just give exposition for like 15 paragraphs blandly. Some you don't really learn anything from#and it's kind of just.. random flavor to make the non-shop map locations more ''lived in'' feeling. Like the random#little girl you can talk to in the park doesn't bizarrely start reading out the wikipedia description of some War that happened 10 years ag#or whatever. she's just complains about school a little and asks if you've tried the nearby ice cream cart treats and etc lol#ANYWAY..#some of the art is so so evil but I'm not going to spend 800 years trying to clean it up and update it. whatever the hell mess I sketched#out in 2018 or whatever is just what I'm keeping lol... it is what it is#One of the many trials of the whole 'briefly work a few months on something and then abandon it almost entirely only to pick up work#on it literally like 4 - 5 yrs later and now you must contend with trying to decipher whatever weird shit you did years ago' experience lol#Also given the population breakdowns of the world in general I think there's an unrealistic amount of jhevona in this lineup since#they're a much rarer species to just see out and about anywhere but.. it IS a global trading center type area. and the game#takes place in the north (the country of Asen. near the coast. for the maybe 2 or less people who actually keep up with my worldbuilding#enough to know where that is lol (the same continent as Navyete (where the avirre'thel live)) and there's a decent concentration#of nothern jhevona only a short ways away so... tee hee..I shall pretend it makes sense and not merely me just wanting#to represent more of that species because I think their lore is interesting lol#I MEAN also realistically there would NOT be a human here because humans are extremely isolated species that don't even know the rest#of the world exists really and human territories are extremely protected from the outside world but... of course it's like.. well we need#at least One of them to be there for the Optional Lore. Same with the Ythrili. But at least those are like.. PLAUSIBLE.. not nonsensically#outlandish. If I had a Verrucalt or something in there THEN that would be truly lore-breaking almost lol#ANYWAY.. rambling that only means anything to me because nobody else knows what I'm even referencing but hbjh#also I think my character designs are so funny in the sense that I really do just love to do the same thing over and over again ghbjh#wow... random asymmetry and belts and arm straps and high collars where the neck is completely covered?? you dont say..how novel

briarwoods!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cadaver, cross, century
[I'm LATE but this idea hit me while crossing the road. like a car. and it's maybe MOSTLY Delilah but she's constantly thinking about Sylas it's ok]
--
Delilah can’t say she’s bored. She really can’t. But - oh. The cemetery is tempting.
If it’s bodies she wants - and of course she wants, from the head of this table, with an entire city at her disposal - she can want them and then have them. Brought to her: already dead, or alive, or in-between. Or down the secret stairs, in the crypts, neatly labeled samples. Or in the servant’s quarters, where she could choose a body herself and redistribute the staff.
All the funding of the assembly means little compared to this wealth, this absolute wealth, of cadavers. Enough to test the limits of her control - to find those lines malleable. And fresh, so fresh, in whatever state she wants.
But she wants the cemetery.
So: here she is, soft shoes muddied, sweat at her back. And it’s underwhelming. The markers are in wobbling rows, skirting ground too rocky for graves.
(Rexxentrum’s graveyards are neat. Efficient in their use of space; they only take urns. Tiny, cramped urns. Far too small.)
Whitestone is a well-trained city by now, brought to heel. It watched politely, quietly as she walked, and probably averts its eyes as she walks, feeling the dead underneath, around, everywhere. Or maybe little people try their very best to peer through the fog, to glimpse the Lady of the city seeks on such a night.
You see - no, do look. You see, it is very difficult to get away with grave robbery near Rexxentrum. Or several miles outside it. Even within reasonable distance of most major roads. Which is such a shame when decomposition is a fascinating process, one so heavily influenced by the size of the corpse and the content of its insides and how it is buried.
Delilah almost floats over the loamy ground. At what point is a body beyond even her talents? Is it a matter of time, or preservation? To the best of her knowledge, a minimum amount of material from the same individual is needed - but how degraded could they be? She’s never really had the sample size to experiment before.
(Decomposition begins as the body begins to eat itself. Then the littlest creatures begin to eat it, too. Everyone so hungry for it, so hungry. Three days later and there is bloat, and fluid, and flies, and maggots. And he looks just like any of her bodies, and he looks wrong.)
She peruses the markers with a smile. Cute, in wood or stone, they are fashioned into sunbeams pouring over where the deceased’s head should be. One for date of birth, one for their name, and one describing when and how they died. Sometimes another with a short message, but she really only cares for the cause of death.
(A few are broken, crooked. Made into crosses; made into wooden daggers. Pretty, petty threats. Cause of death: nothing, never, he did not die, he will not.)
For centuries she walks. Down one row, up the next. Consumption. Lethargie. Accident, accident, accident. Erathis’ judgment. Tympany. Coffin birth - oh, interesting. Here there is not a marker but a shovel, at the head of an empty grave. Flanked by another, another, another. They’ve been busy.
She peeks in. Shame - nobody. No body yet.
(In a fit, she had bought a plot for him. For her. So he could have something, even if she failed him. And she did. Until she didn’t anymore. Now it probably sits empty.)
Her heart is too loud, baying in this quiet. Delilah inhales. Exhales. Petrichor and moss and a whiff of her own perfume. Heel, she wills it. Heel. It would do her no good to worry Sylas, if he listens for her.
(They would fit neatly in one of the graves, in any of them. Six feet and Sylas would help her down with a hand. The dirt would be cool; he would be colder. A burial just for them, only moving things in this cemetery.)
When she is confident her blood is as still as it can be, as close to death as she can be between breaths - when she is here and now and not then and there. Only then does she reach for the nameless dead and make them move.

its actually insane how until dawn became so popular and had a pretty notable impact on horror games and contributed to the popularization of modern horror appropriating * when it's so like. blatantly racist to and appropriating of native cultures. like even if you ignore for a moment the major elephant in the room with its appropriation and racism, there's still more than enough to make you question it
