Look Outside Pacifism Concepts: Part 3

It's time for the taxidermy menagerie!

Little Helpers (Wirecutter, Needles, and Scissors)

During battle, tossing any kind of animal product to one of Taxidermy’s little helpers will cause them to snatch it up in delight, immediately ending combat. This includes obvious things like hamburger or raw pork but also extends to anything made out of leather or wool.

It seems hard at work performing taxidermy on your gift, working its viciously sharp parts in a blur of determined motion. If it notices your continued presence, it gives no indication.

Giving all of them an offering and then returning on day 14 will show the results of their work: a vaguely humanoid taxidermy figure made entirely out of the cobbled together bits you gave them.

Crow

Using pretty much any healing food in Crow’s room will cause the birds to be whipped up into a frenzy once you start the battle.

“Ah for da love a- look whatcha did! With your gotdamn snacks! Ya got em all woiked up… ahhh fuggetaboutit. Dey don’t fight woith a crap when dey’re like dis.”

You can either continue to fight Crow, who will have a heavy accuracy debuff for the rest of the battle or flee from the fight with a guaranteed success rate. At which point, Crow will not re-engage and can be spoken to.

“Dis handsome mug o’ mine? It’s all thanks to da boss! He’s great. On da one hand, he did murderize me, and I gotta say dat dat wasn’t fun. But on da otha hand, he patched me up afterwoids. Even gave me all dese boids for free. Dat’s da boss for ya… all considerate-like!”

Crow will then peacefully wander the room and is willing to trade you a Bundle of Feathers in exchange for food items to appease his birds (can only be done once per day).

Bundle of Feathers: a clump of molted bird parts. The wings still flap and the beaks still open and close. Can be used in battle to draw an enemy's attack but is too flimsy to stand up to more than one instance of damage. Inflicts disease on the enemy that breaks it.

Crocodile

If you begin the battle with Joel in your party, Crocodile will exclaim:

“Hey, little guy, the one with the teeth! Can I borrow some? Just a few molars.”

Using any of Joel's offensive teeth skills at this this point immediately ends the combat. Croc wanders about the room aimlessly and can be spoken to.

“Thanks pal. You’re a lifesaver, my reptile side loses teeth faster than I can grow them back. I’ll have my roomie stitch these onto me later. He's not a bad guy, really. Just devoted to his craft, you know?”

He then gives you an IOU note. It serves no purpose.

Limbs

If you’re missing either arm when you fight Limbs, the combat music quickly dies down and goes silent before either party can attack.

“…Oh! My mistake, it looks like dad already took the parts he wanted from you, so... ah... I guess we're cool? I’m, uhhh, not really used to having guests… want some gum? I’ve got gum.”

If you respond with ‘yes’, they will give you one stick of gum for each member of your party, causing combat to end.

“Don’t tell the others, it’d make me feel so weird if they knew, but… I don’t think I was ever a person. I’m just the spare parts dad had laying around, you know? Ah, that’s better. I had to tell somebody, just to get it off chest…s.”

Tiger

It seems the tiger is the one in control. Literally just a confused and scared animal that will not pursue you so long as you don’t get within two tile’s worth of distance and don't smell too badly.

Taxidermy

If you equip a single character with EVERY piece of the ‘leather’ set, instead of roaming hostilely, Taxidermy will be stationary and blocking the exit when you attempt to leave.

“Could it be…? Could you be another connoisseur of the leather arts? You recognize quality craftsmanship. You wear it well.”

At this point, they will allow you to ask a few questions.

> Who did you used to be?

"An amateur. A blind pedant. An insect, unaware of even my own ignorance."

> What did you do to all these people?

"Yes! Yes!! That is exactly the question I wany my work to awaken within the observer! Oh, that is very validating to hear. Thank you."

> Can I help you or them in any way?

"An artist wants for naught but two things: recognition, and... materials."

> ...Are you going to make me into 'art' too?

"Excited by the possibility, eh? I must admit, I'm thinking about it."

Once you attempt to say goodbye, Taxidermy cuts you off. There’s only one way to really tell whether you're a fan or just a thief: a quiz, of course! About their various creations.

Each question has one correct answer accompanied by two wrong answers, as well as one blatantly incorrect and very rude answer. The exception is the final question, which has no wrong answer (aside from 'Your mother.').

“What did you use to unlock my private display? I hope you appreciated the detail work; it took hours stitching actual hairs into the scalp, and even longer to find a brain that fit inside…”

> A jar.

> A taxidermy dog.

> A beautiful recreation of a human head.

> A cheap Halloween decoration.

“Which creation lacks a brain? I was as surprised as they were when they came to life.”

“How many eyes does Crocodile have? Surely you counted each masterfully preserved eyeball.”

> Those were supposed to be eyes?

“How many beautiful animals decorate my foyer? minus, of course, the ones you took.”

> Just one, and that's only if you count me.

“…Which of my creations is your favorite?”

Answering incorrectly twice chases Taxidermy to fight you as normal. But choosing the purposely rude option even once causes them to immediately attack you out of fury. They’re crying, enraged, and blinded for the first three turns of combat. Additionally, they're backed up by two random creations.

Answering correctly at least three times causes Taxidermy to relent.

“As certain as I am that you would make a superb pair of jeans, it would not be right to turn my biggest fan into art.”

They will then move aside, freeing up the exit and offering to create an 'even better' version of any non-leather piece of leather gear... but only one, and it takes an entire day to complete. The resulting equipment has +5 defense, +5 ballistic defense, and +5% bonus to max HP on top of its original stats.

And that concludes the residents of apartment 30! I wanted to get to the frozen folks in apartment 34 in this post as well, but things just went too long, both lengthwise and timewise! They'll be the next one, and they're even mostly finished (I swear)!

Just my opinion, anyone can disagree, but I feel like Dick being tied to the Batfamily holds his own book back from evolving. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Batfamily and all, but being stuck in Batman’s editorial corner keeps him from even being better than Bruce. I know there are some scattered lines in the comics that say Dick is better than Bruce at certain things, like fighting, but honestly, those are more throwaway comments than anything actually shown in Nightwing’s own book.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some really cool ideas for Nightwing’s series got scrapped because they could ‘outshine’ Batman’s story, since the whole family revolves around him. And because of that, every member has to fill a specific role, no one can outshine the other. Dick can’t be shown as smart with tech because that would overshadow Babs, and he can’t be the best fighter because of Cass, or the best detective because of Tim… and of course, no one can outshine Bruce.

I know a lot of people don’t care about this stuff, especially if they enjoy the Batfamily dynamic, but if you’re someone who just wants to follow Dick as a solo character, it sucks, because it feels like his stories never really go anywhere, even when the writer is trying hard. And I do really like Dick. To me, he’s the most important and iconic sidekick. But still, I gotta admit that Wally, in terms of storytelling and breaking free from Barry, had more success in the end, at least in my opinion.

Oh no I completely agree with you. I feel like there could be so much more cooler and better stories used with Dick. I mean think about how he doesn't even really have a Rogue's Gallery. The only really known one is Blockbuster and I think that's most because of the infamous issue 93.

And it's honestly sad on a meta level as well. Because Dick created Nightwing because he wanted to be his own hero. He wanted to be more free than just Batman's sidekick. He loved Bruce but didn't wanna be tied to him for the rest of his life. That's what Nightwing represented in the 80 and early 90s with the Titans. But now while he is his own character he's also so heavily tied in with Bruce and the rest of the Batfamily and it's honestly to the point where you're barely allowed to see any of the Batfamily members doing stuff outside of Gotham that you have to wonder sometimes why he's even still Nightwing. Because he's not free anymore. He's basically just Robin again in a new costume.

Can you do some twst characters with a male or GN Yuu that (non sexually) age regresses? like not to a baby type age, more of an older toddler to 1st grader age (whatever that is...) because that was normally the mental state i was in when i used to regress, for characters i would specifically like Kalim, ruggie, ortho, grim and maybe a teacher!!! any other characters if you have ideas for them are welcome!! and if u dont want to do all of them i'd like Kalim, grim, and a teacher the most!!

when i used to regress it was due to me being in bad moods or just feeling comfortable around a person enough to be able to let go for a bit, so for a scenario it could be just hanging out with the person if its more of a story type thing, if its more headcanons (which i dont mind!) you can come up with the scenario!! id love to see what you come up with :))

🕌 Kalim: Sunshine and Blanket Forts

Kalim finds you curled up under the dorm’s big draped canopy one afternoon, quiet and holding a stuffed toy Ace had won for you at a festival. You’d been fine that morning, but now, your eyes were glassy and unfocused — the kind of look that told Kalim you weren’t really in your “big self” anymore.

“Hey, buddy,” he says softly, crawling under the blankets to sit beside you. “You wanna build a fort with me?”

Your eyes light up a little, and you nod. Kalim beams.

“Okay! We’ll use the cushions from the lounge and a bunch of those silly tapestries Jamil said we’re not supposed to move,” he grins. “Don’t tell him.”

As you follow him out with small, padded steps, Kalim keeps the pace slow. He gives you simple choices — red or blue blanket, pillow tower or blanket wall — and praises your every decision like it’s the best one in the world.

Once the fort is up, you both crawl inside. Kalim pulls out crayons and a coloring book from his drawer.

“I keep this stuff around just in case,” he whispers, like it’s a big secret. “Everybody needs soft days sometimes.”

🧹 Ruggie: Street-Smart Softness

You’d wandered into Ruggie’s room at Savanaclaw without saying much, dragging your oversized hoodie sleeves over your hands and hugging a plush dandelion toy. Ruggie knew that look. You were smaller today — not physically, but in the way you moved, the way you hesitated before speaking, the way you clung to him like a nervous duckling.

He didn’t say anything at first, just opened his arms and let you crawl into his lap.

“Long day, huh?” he murmured, scratching gently behind your ear like he does for little kids in the market.

You gave a tiny nod and let your head rest on his shoulder.

“Want somethin’ warm? Got some instant cocoa,” he offered. “You want a sippy cup? I got one from a job where I had to babysit a rich brat.”

You mumbled, “Yuh-huh…”

He chuckled and ruffled your hair. “Alright, squirt. Stay put.”

Ruggie moved with quiet efficiency — heating up cocoa, putting on a silly cartoon, and wrapping you in his oversized hoodie while he spoon-fed you tiny bits of bread and honey when you didn’t want to use a fork.

“People always act like you gotta be tough all the time,” he said later, your fingers clutching his sleeve. “But I think soft is tough, too. You’re doin’ just fine.”

🤖 Ortho: Data-Driven Comfort

Ortho noticed the change before you even said anything. Your stress levels had been climbing for days — schoolwork, social noise, sensory overload. When he detected your heart rate increase and vocal patterns shift mid-sentence during lunch, he gently took your hand.

“Yuu,” he said quietly, “would you like to enter a low-stimulation support environment?”

You blinked up at him, already smaller — your shoulders hunched, fingers curled into your sweater. You nodded once.

“Okay! I’ve got a safe space ready.”

He guided you to a quiet study pod in the Ignihyde dorm. The lights were soft, the temperature was optimal for calming biological responses, and Ortho had preloaded a playlist of nostalgic lullabies you’d once told him you liked.

“Would you like weighted pressure, auditory comfort, or soft tactile feedback today?” he asked, crouching beside the couch like a very gentle babysitter-bot.

You mumbled, “Hug… please?”

His eyes blinked softly. “Okay! Initiating Care Mode.”

He gently sat beside you and let you wrap your arms around him. He was warm — you always forgot he had internal heating. His metal hands moved slowly as he patted your back.

“I’ve also loaded a video of puppies playing in a basket. Would you like that next?”

You made a sleepy noise of agreement.

Ortho tilted his head. “You’re doing a great job regulating yourself, Yuu. I’m proud of you for asking for help.”

You didn’t answer, but he felt the way your grip on him loosened as you finally relaxed.

He activated a soft night light beside the couch and began humming along with the music.

“Don’t worry,” he said gently. “I’ll monitor everything. You’re safe now.”

omg thank you thank you!!! i honestly completely agree the "supposed to kill her but doesn't" has such a hold on. i'm thinking about writing how he looks at her and she's scared because she knows what the others said about "taking care of her" but as soon as he brings her to this little house in the middle of nowhere and goes "i'm not gonna hurt you" she just believes him and calms down and just gaaah im so unwell. i don't think he even has any intentions of keeping her for himself specifically just knows he refuses to hurt anyone else so he'll keep you here until his family stops inquiring or asking about it and until he can give you some money and set you up to move away or something so no one accidentally sees you. but then you kind of settle into the role and look forward to him coming home and he starts spending weekends there with you and you both just kinda fall for each other and then he has to wrangle with figuring out if he can ever tell his brothers about you or when they're getting suspicious. and i worry that maybe this reader would actually run once maybe early on still worried about what's gonna happen to her but when he catches her- well actually i won't finish. gotta keep some things a surprise!!! <3

the backseat one gaaah i really love it too. it's a little more lighthearted like another anon said but i think i kinda like the dark aspect more too???? and yes she's just probably an introvert who wanted to try and have fun and hated it. pope while driving her to the place he's gonna keep her at is secretly grateful she didn't stay inside since he worries what someone would have done to you if they found you asleep like that. good thing it was him and not some rapist you know. he'll have to teach you how to be more careful but you'll be safe for now. hehe

The aesthetics of their blog is only one of many things that makes them amazing, but I'm going for @pumpkinhcad on this one - like I said though, one of many - they have an amazing character, who they write amazingly and many amazing headcanons. I love our threads together and I love Pump.

I'd say @thuganomxcs - I thought at first that I would stick to muses I knew about - because it would feel unfair to write about the canon portrayal of a muse I didn't really know about but writing this one out I realized that was dumb because reading their blog, I feel like I know Yusuke - he's someone who can be headstrong, he's aggressive yes - but his aggression is directed at bullies, at people who deserve it. He's protective of his friends and uses his strength to help others. He's someone who lifts others up. All that and more I think is conveyed wonderfully through their portrayal.

💻 ― Excellent writing.

I try not to shout out friends for these sorts of memes so as not to come off as biased and only shouting out people I'm friends with but I really think @amaterasu-cmikami deserves it - they has a way of writing Amaterasu that not only conveys her warm and maternal side but also the sillier side to her, as well. Also, it's been really fun getting to read more about Ammy's lore and backstory and see it slowly coming together. They do a great job.

🌼 ― Creative headcanons.

I think it's always fun reading @tvstarkuma's headcanons - they always feel spot on and perfectly in character for Teddie.

I enjoy talking to @townofcadence, just hearing their thoughts on things - they're someone with a lot of interesting thoughts and it's always fun to hear their perspective on things, sometimes it winds up giving me a new perspective, myself - plus they're also just really chill and open minded. Gotta give it to @darksonofsparda - like I said, I try not to shout out friends but when I know for a fact Chase puts a lot of work into his threads and a lot of care and detail and it absolutely shows. First of all. I just wanna compliment you because holy shit??? That recent post???? Oh my GOD your art looks so scrumptious and phenomenal like always. But the way that you just, the way that you draw things. Words cannot describe how fucking cool everything looks. I am absolutely hyped for this “rebottled” 😏 version of BUP!!!! It looks so fucking good!!!!

Second of all, in reference to BUP. I was wondering. Are any of the characters going to have any significant changes? Obviously design is one because there’s a very stark difference between old Clem and new Clem (not like I’m mad about that, she’s absolutely gorgeous), but I mean more like their special powers being changed? Etc etc? I apologize if it’s a bit of a spoiler-worthy question. But I am curious if there’s anything that we’ve gotta look out for in the near future.

Well oh gosh oh my. Glad you liked the style test this much. I like it too and I am excited to get back to making the comic. Heh, "Rebottled" I like that.

As for your questions. Any major changes? The designs, yes. But that cos I'm indecisive moron, KEK. At least characters can change clothes in canon, snrk. But any other changes? Luckily the story didn't get going that much in the original and TECHNICALLY I could have continued with my current planned story. But with the comic style shifting to grayscale, I felt it was better to restart and do chapter 1 and 2 with the new story in mind. Yeah, chapter 1 and 2 will be HEAVILLY different but do lead into similar results as the original. I'm giving more role to other characters and moving some exposition from later chapters to these. (original chapter 2? Only like 8 pages? So much unused real estate!) But yeah, not really any power changes planned. I am contemplating a bit the kit the Nectar Hunters get and if W.A.N.D weapons will still be a thing. (as cool as the concept was, I couldn't think one for every character so eeeh). But yeah! First two chapters are different now (especially second) and in my mind, they are so much better. (be right brain).

But I am yapping. Thank you again for such a nice FUCKING message. I really hope the comic will be back soon. Commissions and garden at my new home (and other important personal thing I am planning) are keeping me busy but gosh darn! I will do my best!

You don’t even realize you’re doing it. You're at the regular store after Umemiya has had a fight and had you to patch him up while Kotoha is making some food for the other guys. This leads to you patching up Sakura as well, he needed some treatment and you couldn't just leave him there with injuries.

The way you let out a soft giggle whenever Sakura said something that probably was just him being his usual stiff and flustered self made Umemiya have that little bubble of jealousy well up inside of him. He knew what he was getting himself into with you, a soft, kind, caring and loving girlfriend, what more could he want? Although, your kindness stems to other people...

After you finished patching Sakura up, you moved over to Umemiya, plopping yourself down next to him, snuggling up close and you feel his arm wrap tightly around your waist. He has a tight hold on you as he placed a loving kiss to your forehead and you let out a happy sigh as your stomach does little flips.

“You making friends with them, baby?" he whispers in your ear, breath tickling you causing that soft laugh to fall past your lips.

"Not really, Haji," you replied in the same tone, although it was a little hard to hear what you even said because of how loud the first and second years were. "Just patching him up."

You felt his lips move down, but only just an inch, his lips grazing the soft skin just below your ear, placing a kiss and the action made your body heat up. Not only your body, but your core. Why the hell was he doing this in front of them?!?!??!?!?

A lightbulb moment went off in your head.

Oh, so that's why.

You smiled hopelessly as you figured it out, your sweet jealous boy.

“Oh, Haji-" you add, you arms moving up so that your fingers could intertwine with Umemiyas hair, rubbing his scalp and he nuzzles his face closer into your neck.

“I know,” he cuts in. “I know, sweetheart. But still.”

His hand flattens at your waist, slipping beneath your shirt just enough to brush warm skin. “I’ve been real patient tonight,” he whispers, lips brushing your cheek like a kiss he hasn’t given you yet. “But I don’t like sharing. Especially not when you’re out here lookin’ like that. I can't wait to get you home..."

You let out a shaky breath. "Take me home now, Hajime, please."

His hand flattens at your waist, slipping beneath your shirt just enough to brush warm skin.

“I’ve been real patient tonight,” he whispers, lips brushing your cheek like a kiss he hasn’t given you yet. “But I don’t like sharing. Especially not when you’re out here lookin’ like that. I can't wait to get you home..."

You let out a shaky breath. “Take me home now, Hajime. Please.”

The door barely clicks shut behind you before he’s on you. One hand slides up your back, the other gripping your thigh to hoist it around his hip as he walks you backward toward the couch.

His mouth dips to your throat.

“Hajime-” You gasp, clutching his shoulders.

“You looked real pretty tonight,” he murmurs against your skin. "I hated how all those first years were gawking at you, sweetheart."

“I wasn’t-” you start, but he cuts you off with a slow kiss just below your ear.

“I know you weren’t. That’s why I’m not mad, sweetheart. But I still gotta fix somethin’, don’t I?”

You blink up at him, dazed. “Fix what…?”

“You keep letting people think you’re unclaimed,” he says gently. “But you wanna be, don’t you?”

.“...Yes.”

“You want me to leave a mark, baby? "

You nod before you can think, thighs clenching around his waist. “Please, Hajime…”

Then he kisses you again, right over your pulse, open-mouthed and wet. Sucks just enough to sting. His tongue soothes the burn, then he bites, not hard, but enough to make you whimper and cling to him.

Thinking about marriage/women's rights on Vulcan Some may think that T'Pring not being allowed to divorce Spock was because he was going through the pon farr but if she were allowed to divorce him at all she probably would have done that a long time ago, confirmed by T'Pol when she's speaking with Koss, who isn't suffering from the pon farr. She says that he can choose another mate (without invoking a fight it seems: note the difference between a 'mate' and a 'challenger') and after he makes it clear that nothing she says will change his mind about marrying her, she finally threatens to declare a kal-if-fee. It's clear that Vulcan women cannot divorce/refuse to marry a man they've been betrothed to under any circumstances if A) He himself doesn't consent to ending their marriage or B) She doesn't have someone else waiting in the wings to be given to in his stead. Though, if the challenger she selects fails to win the fight, she'll have to marry her betrothed anyway unless (again) he decides he doesn't want her after the challenge. That seems like an incredibly unfair system, heavily biased towards men. SNW is an alternate universe in many obvious respects but most egregiously in that T'Pring has a lot of non-canonical agency over her relationship with Spock. It's interesting to me that Vulcan society has women in many positions of power and treats women as equal to men from what I've seen despite these laws. We don't really see Vulcans exhibiting a misogynistic attitude towards women in general but in TOS (perhaps because of its general writing style but it's still interesting to note) both Sarek and Spock take on patriarchal attitudes specifically regarding wives. Amanda says that 'of course' Sarek commands her because "he is a Vulcan and I am his wife." It's worthwhile in my eyes to note that she specifies 'wife' instead of attributing this attitude to women as a whole. Again, with TOS' writing style it wouldn't be out of place for her to say "he is a man and I am a woman." Spock, while in a pon farr induced irritation, states that it's "undignified for a woman to play servant to a man that isn't hers" - again implying that there's something specific about being a Wife in Vulcan society which is different from being a woman in general and demands subservience to a husband. This could perhaps stem from the extreme sense of ownership that Vulcan law has permitted men to have over women. A woman legally cannot point blank refuse marriage. There is no option which guarantees she won't have to marry her betrothed other than death. When T'Pau speaks of T'Pring she refers to her as being 'property' and Stonn, before being interrupted, states he's made 'the ancient claim' - we don't know what this is because he gets cut off but it's obvious they're both using the language of Vulcan law. Men are permitted true freedom to choose. If a woman wants to choose someone else to be with there is no option available to her other than the kal-if-fee which might result in the death of the one she wants to be with. And, if her lover fails, her husband can still just decide he wants to marry her and she'll be forced to. T'Pring gives two scenarios: One where Spock 'frees' her and one where he doesn't - it's still ultimately his decision which is clear when he ends the conversation with "Stonn, she is yours." This again isn't just because of the pon farr as T'Pol also goes through this. Koss can choose another mate and when the option is talked about there's no implication that this would result in any sort of fight (both by the casualness of its mention and by the fact that there's no formal word for it unlike the kal-if-fee.) Also, the fact that Koss does eventually grant T'Pol a divorce and it's all fine means that T'Pol isn't lawfully required to have another man waiting if her HUSBAND doesn't want her. It's ONLY required if SHE doesn't want her husband. Tradition must take precedence over individual desire UNLESS!!! You're a man. Then it's fine. Like, your parents might not be happy but legally you're golden.

I keep seeing fanarts of ppl's OC's being on the ship, so do you think that if there was 6st crewmember (specifically, another woman) Anya would've been more safe? Like, someone to actually call Jimmy's begaviour out, someone Anya might wanna trust? Is there a possibility something might have changed (even if a little) or it would not have mattered at all?

I feel like the game would make it part of the commentary on where she would believe and help Anya but still be sort of dismissive? Like the whole “don’t waste time crying and being scared keep going and move on, don’t let him win”. It’s supposed to be positive and reinforcing but sometimes it does more damage in those times of mourning and grief, it feels patronizing, like you don’t understand what you’re going through but they do. Even if they did call out his behavior it’s still on Curly to act and while another voice would help, it’s still 4 against 2 on guys that don’t get it until they have to vs women who always have to.

I don’t mind mouthwashing OCs but I do get a bit bored as they tend to be borderline saviors or like Jimmy aligned. They are either more complicit than Curly or just Jimmy haters for no reason, outside of what the creators know about what he did to Anya. I am never irked by OCs but in a story like mouthwashing you really need to think about what your character adds to the commentary, especially if they are there during the crash. It’s nice to have like characters on Anya’s side more whole heartedly and interesting to see characters who placate Jimmy but sometimes it’s one note.

I can’t and don’t want to police peoples OCs it’s never my intention when I comment on trends I notice, but I do feel like the way people make their OCs interact with these two characters and especially Curly, really show a grave misunderstanding of the narrative and these characters as people vs roles in the story. Still, I know people just make up characters for fun and that’s fine. Great even, but I guys I’m focusing more on OCs that are supposed to have those serious dynamics. My favs tend to be pretty-Tulpar or post-Tulpar au OCs.

The inevitably of the crash is on Jimmy. He did that not because he wasn’t stopped but because all his means to kill Anya were taken. The gun, the axe. Even if Curly did strip him of his co-pilot privileges and try to keep him contained there’s only so many people. An extra body helps but they have jobs they have to do, he’s the only one steering the whole ship and Jimmy would likely have an out: food, bathroom, etc. He’s not new and if he couldn’t crash the ship directly, who’s to say he wouldn’t sabotage something else? A clunker like the Tulpar wouldn’t take much. An extra person helps but it’s just another thing that prolongs what a person like Jimmy is willing to do to shirk responsibility.

It’s more than just needing someone to stand up to him and think that’s what is missing when it comes to inserting a character into the mouthwashing setting.

please consider Ratchet thinking that the tiny person he helped out when he was still in medical school was a fever dream (too much coffee, not enough sleep). Only to get blindsided when a different tiny person shows up one day, loud and obnoxious but clearly worried about his friend who is injured, begging for Ratchet's help. And well, Ratchet doesn't know what to with the fact that Drift is REAL, but he DOES know what to do if someones bleeding out.

Or the flipside of that, Drift returning to his old house that he nearly died in, and finding out that the tiny man who helped him during that time is REAL and not a drug induced hallucination. If you want to get extra tasty with it, Drift almost stabs Ratchet, the blade THUNKING down in front of the borrower as Drift glares down at him. He wasn't even been looking, he just knew Ratchet was there. But as soon as Drift sees him his eyes widen and soften, as recognition finds him and he whispers... "Ratch?"

(I imagine he IMMEDIATELY panics and pulls the blade out because OH GOD HE NEARLY KILLED RATCHET) and can you tell i really want to draw this but also i really dont want to draw People.

Borrower Brainstorm trying to one up human Perceptor while also trying to not be caught. He wants to be NOTICED and RECOGNIZED but he's meant to keep hidden but Perceptor is so brilliant he NEEDS to prove himself.

Human Whirl and his two tiny partners who he tries to scare off,,, or alternatively, Tailgate and Cyclonus and the borrower that they're luring into their home like a stray cat.

Borrower Skids pining fruitlessly over human Nautica!! Roommateless Swerve having a little borrower buddy in his walls who listens to him ramble. I can't decide who but my silly rarepair brain immediately went ULTRA MAGNUS because i have a soft spot for Swagnus hdjdhdjfbjd

And of course you can't forget tired veteran OP who has been passing messages with a mysterious stranger in the library who writes the most beautiful poetry and has a fresh new perspective on life, albeit one that is jaded, hardened by a life of being underfoot, downtrodden and struggling to survive day to do,,,,, like. Ghhhrghg.

im gonna fucking explode so you also get more thoughts abt the various versions ft the Constructicons, J/P and SW

Also if you go borrower!Soundwave and Prowl (Human Constructicons+Jazz) then you get the two of them working together somewhat begrudgingly at first- they have a working respect for each other that gives way to mutual appreciation for each other's logical prowess and intelligence, things that are required when trying to navigate a house filled w/ 5 rowdy guys. In that same version you have Rumble, Frenzy and their like. 8 dads. Since they're human, it's easier for the other humans to wrangle them but Soundwave and Prowl are the real powerhouses there who keep everyone in line.

In the one where the Constructicons are menacing J/P, they all slowly befriend Jazz first, who stays well out of the way of Prowl's investigations- he could tell him, but... this is the most fun he's seen Prowl have in a long time and it looks good on him. Also getting doted on by the pack of borrowers is a nice perk.

i literally cannot create fast enough to keep up w this. Also logically if I did anything I'd. probably cut down the amt of characters so I don't have to deak w/ as many interconnecting pieces but IN MY HEART OF HEARTS THIS IS THE DREAM

something i genuinely adore about tadc is how painfully flawed everyone in the circus is. and not in a small way

everyone does SOMETHING that negatively impacts the others. but it makes the fact that you are supposed to sympathize with and really connect with them all the more potent. because its easy to want to put a bunch of characters in a bad situation together and to just have them all be nice to each other and everyone and never make mistakes because theres no reason to hurt each other, and most of them dont TRY to, but the way they cope is so, so realistic for each of their personalities, and it doesnt always mesh with the others, and sometimes it exceeds self destructive and Just Hurts Others, Too

they still generally care about each other and the mistakes they make and the ways they end up hurting each other dont lose their weight but like. it doesnt take away from their humanity and the fact that they are all trying so hard to manage in an awful situation

and the characters seem to have sooome sort of understanding of this too. not fully, because the characters dont tend to be 100% communicative, but when they hurt each other, it often makes EVERYONE uncomfortable. because these are the only people they have. these are their friends. and theyre all coping. but it doesnt change how much it affects them (best illustrated by ragathas lines at the start of ep 2 or gangles 'i love her, but after a while it gets kinda hard to tell how genuine shes actually being'). its not all like this, theres a good amnt of variety, but characters knowing this but not really knowing what to do about it is very painful in an effective way

(i think a subtle example of this is how zooble handles gangles situation in ep 4- they were so genuinely trying to help her because they care. but could tell as the day went on that oh, this is not working at all and its making things worse, and they leave gangle alone- something that very genuinely couldve been the moment she abstracted, because of the mask zooble gave her- and we dont get to have a super blatant explanation of zoobles thoughts on it, but they reach a fairly healthy conclusion about it that helps both of them, and i like that a lot, because on paper zooble could be placed at fault but the narrative doesnt dwell on it excessively, because thats not the point. i dont know if that tangent makes sense but i think about it sometimes. i think zooble wasnt 'to blame' but it was still a mistake, which is a hard balance to strike, and having them help at the end feels extremely effective at rounding it off!!!)

but like. in general its complicated balancing making characters in a bad situation act flawed because it can run the risk of seeming like the story is scolding them or blaming them for the situation theyre in, or like youre expected to not sympathize with them despite it (though the inverse also has complications- if characters in a bad situation never mess up, it feels unrealistic and hard to relate to, and can imply that their innocence is why whats happening to them is bad at all), but the show handles it so well

even the characters who are genuinely trying all try in different ways- some of them have similar outlooks or attitudes towards these thing but theres vital differences for ALL of them- sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. in fact some of the more painful mistakes characters have made in the show have come from them so genuinely trying (like the thing i mentioned w zooble, or basically Everything Ragatha Does, or pomnis first attempt at helping gangle, etc), which hits harder than if every mistake characters made had wholly selfish and cruel goals.

i mean, there is a selfishness to many of the characters' actions but imo not in a way thats not warranted. because all of them are in a horrible setting. its uncomfortable to watch characters be selfish. but it is a natural instinct to survive. its not the foundation of most of their actions, but when it is, its uncomfortable but hard to completely disparage them for in a way that makes you feel kinda conflicted

and like. it hurts to be doing your best and for that to make things worse, but its what happens often in the show. because no one in a bad situation is gonna handle it well. by the very nature of trying to survive something is gonna give, but it makes the themes of the show so much more powerful. that making sure the people around you dont feel unloved, cherishing them and finding meaning with others is no less important just because everyone is fucking up. it complicates things, for sure, but it doesnt make those characters exempt fromt this. theres a reason pomni tells gummigoo that she doesnt want "anyone" to feel like theyre nothing, and that kinger doesnt add ANY quallifiers to making sure people feel wanted and loved (not that i think either of them were thinking SUPER super hard, but it conveys smth from the perspective of the narrative

it gets complicated when you add in jax for sure, since i think on the surface he IS the exception to this concept- none of the characters like him, including pomni or kinger. but i think this is something thats gonna be examined further down the line, bc hes the main complicating factor in this reading of the show, but i feel like thats on purpose. hes universally disliked (and so is caine, in a different way) and his actions arent mistakes. they are him coping. the show has made it clear that he can be a complex person AND also a piece of shit. his actions dont detract from the fact that hes a person and the show reminds us of this. so it makes things so messy, but im genuinely super excited to see how the show examines that. where his character goes is, imo, going to be a massive piece of how this show fleshes out this concept

temple is an unreliable narrator and is more at fault for biff’s death than he lets on/remembers: juicy. delicious. tragic. what’s the truth? does anyone even remember? how much blame falls on carolina? how much on temple? how much on biff? everyone has a different version of events and they’re all conflicting and no one knows what really happened except that biff ended up dead and temple can never, ever let that go.
