#I go to school a day’s drive from my home state so yeah I’ve voted more via mail in than in person

Please don’t let in person voting be your only option! Check out this website, and you should be able to find your mail in ballot options. If you know where you’ll be living in October and November, then you can fill out your form now and send it in!
If you’re unsure about your housing/address, you have 3 options
1. Have it sent to a trusted friend, who can then forward it to you. Pick a friend who will send it quickly/responds well to reminders. If possible, give them appropriate postage and an envelope in case they don’t have any.
2. Rent a PO Box. You can usually rent them for 6 month or one year stints. If you rented one as of writing this right now [April 2024], you would be covered into October if you chose the 6month option. If you remember to rent one in June, you’ll definitely be covered past the election date if you do the 6month option.
They do cost money but they aren’t anywhere as expensive as renting a house, etc. My local one is less than $90 a year. The post office can also forward your mail for a couple months, so if you do move/find permanent housing, you should be covered in that way. You should be able to go in and tell the clerk to forward the mail to your new address.
Post offices are often accessible and friendly, and I genuinely enjoy going to check my PO Box. To be fair, I live less than 2 blocks away from my post office, but I enjoyed it even when I lived further away.
3. Wait. If you, like many homeless people and/or students, won’t know your address until you’ve saved up your summer money/got student housing, it might not be until August/September that you find out your address. That’s fine! Do me a favor. Queue this post and @ yourself in your own reblog. That way, you’ll be reminded to apply! Just check your state or county’s deadline for application and set your reminder to before that date if possible.
Additionally,
you have to renew your mail-in ballot every year. Just because you applied last year doesn’t mean you’re covered this year. I was mistaken about that in 2021. But I did vote in my first ever presidential election via mail in ballot for 2020! I have also gotten my ballot via mail both 2022 and 2023, and will apply for it this year as well :).
You have the power! Use it!!! Love yall!
such a huge relief that hillary’s so ahead in the polls and trump has such a small chance of winning, right? WRONG. DO NOT GET APATHETIC OR COMFORTABLE. DO NOT DECIDE YOU DON’T NEED TO VOTE BECAUSE YOU’RE SURE HILLARY WILL WIN. the only way trump can win now is if so many people expected to vote for hillary don’t show up to the polls. because you BETTER believe ALL of his supporters will be at the polls.
brexit passed in the UK because young people grew apathetic because they were sure it wasn’t going to pass. and it did, because old racists and xenophobes showed up in DROVES to vote.
tl;dr: VOTE, PEOPLE. VOTE LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT. IT MIGHT.

Story Masterlist
Word Count: 2333
Warnings: Some language? I can’t think of anything else
% approximately the 3rd week of October %
Friday evening, the volleyball team arrived at the town regionals were being held at, about an hour away. You were staying in a hotel again, and as before, Julia was your buddy.
After having spent the evening laughing and having fun, your whole hotel room group was about to head up the stairs.
“Hey, y/n. Do you mind staying back for a minute?” Julia asked.
“Oh, sure. We’ll meet you guys upstairs,” you called to the other two, who waved back nonchalantly and continued walking. Julia and you went back to some empty seats near the lobby.
“What’s up?” you asked, smiling.
“Well… Sam told me he caught you and Tom yesterday and I just wanted to ask you about it…”
Your smile faltered.
“What’s there to talk about? I told him that Tom sprayed me with water so I got back at him by soaking the back of his shirt. There’s nothing more to say.”
“Well, yeah, he told me that but he also mentioned that you stayed for dinner? And met Nikki’s parents last weekend? Not trying to imply anything, but I didn’t meet their grandparents until Sam and I had been dating for like 6 months.”
You were getting annoyed, considering this was the second person in two days to ask you about Tom.
“I didn’t just meet them over nothing! Nikki took my senior pictures at the same time as Tom’s and wanted to do them there. I was just tagging along for the ride.”
“You know he’s also coming to state next weekend, right? If we pass through tomorrow?”
He is?
“Uh, no I didn’t. Doesn’t he have football stuff to worry about? It’s also Halloween next weekend, like he’d miss out on the big party.”
“They have a bye next week. Sam is going to come and I guess Tom is taking him, but Nikki might come too? I’m not sure. I guess you’d better ask him. Anyways, I just wanted to clear things up since there were all those rumors today,” she said, starting to get up.
“Wait, wai- Rumors? I never heard anything. Like about me?”
“You haven’t heard? I guess one of the freshman girls who has a massive crush on Tom was stalking Nikki’s website last night and saw some pictures of the two of you. A bunch of people think you’re dating now.”
You felt yourself pale.
“Oh no, and she changed one picture after Tom asked her to. Do you know what the picture was?”
“Something about him carrying you..? I never saw it, why?”
“Great. Now everyone is going to think she changed it because a secret got out or something. Ughhhh I just wish this stupid marriage project had never happened and I would never be in this mess.”
Julia looked at you contemplatively for a moment.
“Think of it this way, you and Tom are friends now, right?” you apprehensively nodded. “If it weren’t for that project, you two would still be fighting all the time and you wouldn’t have had the incredible Nikki Holland taking your pictures. Everyone can just get over themselves, you know?”
You snorted, then grinned.
“Yeah I guess so. You know, you’re annoyingly wise beyond your years,” you stated. “Now let’s get back upstairs. We have a long day ahead of us.”
%
Placing first at regionals meant two things: you were going to state, and everyone was congratulating you again when Monday came.
They also kinda looked at you funny when Tom high fived you in the hallway as he passed by, but you had decided to follow Julia’s advice and stop caring about the rumors people were spreading.
Once the morning announcements ended, your calculus teacher stood up, a small paper stack in hand.
“Okay, everyone, since I’m your first period teacher and homecoming is next week, today you get to cast your nomination votes. Y’all know the drill: three guys, three girls for king and queen. Try to make it fast, we have a lot to do today.”
She walked around handing out half-sheets of paper with six lines on them. You and Tom immediately looked at each other.
“We nominating each other?” Tom asked before you could.
“Wouldn’t have it any other way,” you joked, filling out the sheet with both of your names and four others.
In home ec, you sat next to Tom cutting fabric for yet another project you had to do together, thinking about something Julia had mentioned.
“Hey, I gotta ask you something. Is it true you’re going to the capital this weekend for our state tournament?” you asked.
“Oh, yeah. This is our bye week and I promised Sam I’d go with him and mom. Plus, we can work on the project when you’re free.”
“You do realize that’s like a four hour drive, right? I mean it’s Halloween this weekend. Wouldn’t you rather make an appearance at Johnny’s big blowout?”
“Eh, it won’t be that great. I mean his place isn’t even that big and it’s in town. There’s literally no way it won’t get busted within the first half hour. The homecoming party at Tyler’s however… that’s gonna be insane.”
“Okay Johnny’s trash party aside, you really would rather spend your one free weekend of the season four hours away watching girls play volleyball then at home doing… whatever it is you do. And please don’t tell me you watch the ‘hub in your spare time.”
“Come on, y/n I’m not an animal. Even without the tight uniforms volleyball is really cool.”
You backhanded his arm at the comment.
“Plus, I don’t need any videos to get myself off,” he added, smirking.
“You disgust me.”
“You know you love me.”
“Hmm. Debatable,” you shot back dryly, earning a chuckle and shoulder bump from him as you finally cracked.
%
At lunch, your friends were discussing the Halloween party when you sat down.
“Okay we really need to figure out what to wear this weekend, and we’re not going as playboy bunnies like Daisy and all her group,” said one girl.
“Well I say we dress as frat boys. It’s funny, not super sexual, and we all know half the guys are going to rush next year,” suggested Caroline.
“I like it, but what if we went a step further and dressed as dads. You know, hawaiian shirts, khaki shorts, socks and sandals. That would be hilarious. What do you think, y/n?” said Alexis.
“Sorry ladies, I won’t be there. We have state this weekend at the capital so as always, we’re driving down Friday after school. I will be at Tyler’s homecoming thing next weekend. Also, I do really like the dad thing, but I vote y’all do Guy Fieri.”
“Wait why is that literally genius,” Alexis said as the others agreed. “Of course it would suck to take your idea without you even getting to do it.”
“You guys really think I care? Just credit me in your insta captions. I’ll make the team put ribbons with flames on them in their ponytails Saturday.”
“Okay now we have to do it,” a different friend said.
“Hey, at least you won’t have to worry about Tom. I’m sure he’ll be at the party,” Caroline said. You wrinkled your nose.
“Yeah about that… His brother’s girlfriend is on the team so he’s going, too. I’m the one that’ll be seeing him instead of you guys but whatever. We’ll need to work on our project anyways.”
“Don’t you think that’ll fuel the fires people are already spreading about you? A good portion of the school thinks you’re secretly together now,” added the first friend from before.
“People are going to believe whatever the hell they want. I honestly don’t care anymore. Oh! By the way, did I tell you guys that some freshman was the one spreading shit about me Friday? The nerve those kids have,” you said.
“Wait, what? It was a freshman that was trying to tell everyone y’all are together? Ugh why would anyone believe them?” Alexis asked, incredulous.
“I know, right? Apparently she’s like obsessed with Tom or something. She must have a backwards way of thinking if she believes spreading fake rumors will make him want her. Jokes on her when she has to see us together on homecoming court. He’s just as likely to be voted as I am, maybe even more.”
The group all laughed and continued talking about random things, and you mentally wiped the sweat from your brow now that the conversation was shifted from you and Tom.
%
You were nervously bouncing your leg before calculus Friday morning. You’d gotten to school early to make certain you would be there for the announcements, which is when they would be releasing the list of nominees.
Tom came in a couple minutes before the bell, hair still wet from his post workout shower. Usually he blow dried it, and he obviously noticed you looking at his curls, your knee bouncing anxiously.
“Got out of the weight room late so I rushed over here. What are you wired up about, princess?”
“Do I really have to tell you? Homecoming noms.”
“You’re actually nervous about that? Everyone knows you’re already at the top of the list.”
“Uh, no, that’s you. After everything that’s happened the past few weeks, there’s no telling how people feel about me.”
“Oh you’ll be fine. I know it,” Tom finished. You wanted to disagree with him further, but then the bell rang and announcements began. After the general daily stuff, they got to the part everyone was waiting for.
You were on the edge of your seat. The disembodied voice began with the underclassmen’s court nominations, eventually working up to the senior king contestants.
“Alright, first up in the running for kings we have… Tuwaine Barrett!”
Tuwaine was a cool dude. He played basketball and was in theatre. You were happy to see him nominated.
“Next up we’ve got Harrison Osterfield!”
Ugh. I’d rather abdicate the throne than end up against him.
“And finally for the boys, Tom Holland!”
A small cheer went up in your classroom as people congratulated Tom and patted him on the back. You gave him a high five.
“And now for the ladies. First on the list is Zendaya Coleman!”
Ah Zendaya. You were never that close, but she was always nice when you’d had classes with her. She was way taller than you, a star player on the basketball and softball teams. Not to mention she was insanely gorgeous. This was already some stiff competition.
“Second, we have Daisy Ridley!”
And of course another likely contender. Daisy, who was planning on going to that evening’s Halloween party as a playboy bunny, was a cheerleader. She didn’t fit every aspect of the cheer stereotype, like the fact that she was actually really smart, but she definitely wasn’t the nicest person either.
“And finally, your last nominee for homecoming queen is… y/n y/l/n!”
It took a second to fully process that it was you they were talking about until there were people cheering you on like they’d done for Tom. He reciprocated the high five.
“What’d I tell you princess? Or shall I say queen.”
%
Tom was leaving football practice after the bell when a few of his buddies appeared next to him to walk across the parking lot.
They were talking when Tom saw you all loading the bus, and you sent each other a wave.
“Damn, y/n’s not gonna be at the party tonight? That’s rough, she always has the dopest costumes. ‘Least you will. What are you going as?” one guy, Jake, said.
“Did I not tell you? I’m going out of town. Won’t be there. I totally would’ve been Spider-Man though,” Tom explained.
“Wait you won’t be there tonight either?” another, Chris, asked. “You’re gonna miss out on some major exposure for homecoming votes.”
“Oh yeah, right. I’m pretty sure things are in the bag for me. I’ll just be gone tonight and tomorrow. Promised Sam I’d go to the volleyball thing with him.”
“Wait, wait, wait. You. Are going to the capital. Which is four hours away. At the same time as y/n. Am I hearing this right?” Jake asked as they finally reached their cars.
“Oh shut up, man. It’s not like that. Yeah we’ll be at the same place this weekend but whatever. We’re cool with each other now.”
“Cool? Is that code for ‘I want to make out every time I look at her?’” interjected Chris. He and Jake gave each other a look and laughed.
“Ugh, no. I’d kiss a salmon before I kissed y/n. I just meant we’ve come to an understanding and are somewhat friends now.”
They both looked at him funny.
“So you mean to tell me that there’s nothing going on between you two? Yeah right. We’ve all seen the way you look at her at games,” Jake said suggestively.
“What is up with you and everyone else at this school thinking there’s more to the story?! We are fake married for a school project and are nothing more than friends. You’re crazy to think otherwise.”
“Who are you planning on asking to the dance?” Chris asked, seemingly out of nowhere.
“What? What do you mean? I haven’t even thought about it.”
“I’m asking who you’ll take to homecoming. It’s y/n, isn’t it?”
“No. No, it’s not, because I haven’t asked anyone.”
“Would you go with her?” Chris continued, pressing in.
“I mean I guess so. If we’re voted king and queen then it’ll basically be an obligation.”
“And if you’re not?”
“Dude why are you asking all these questions! If she isn’t queen then I’ll go with whoever is. If I’m not king, I’ll just go solo and see what happens. Whatever, though, I need to get home. I’ll see you guys Monday,” Tom finished.
He walked off to his car, where his brothers were impatiently waiting.

Since Day One
Tumblr media
Pairing— Park Jimin x female reader
Genre— college au, friends to lovers au, smut, FLUFF (this is so soft)
Warnings— oral (fem and male receiving), sex in general but nothing crazy, Jimin being a mushy baby oof my heart melted
Word Count— ~5.1k
Summary— You’re best friends with the sweetest guy on Earth, Park Jimin. Of course, you’d be his girlfriend in a heartbeat if he asked. If only...
Your love life has been fruitless since...well since you were born. There’s been the occasional fling here and there, but you cut it off as soon as you realized they were only after sex and nothing more. You yearn for something meaningful with just about anyone now. If a cute boy is somewhat nice to you for even a second, you catch yourself fantasizing about going on a honeymoon with him. You were lost in your thoughts until a familiar voice brought you back to reality.
“Hello? ___? Is anyone home? Oh wow look at that super cute dog--”
“Where?” you crane your neck to look out the cafe window in hopes of spotting the dog.
“There is no dog. I just needed your attention. What do you think of this layout for the presentation?” Jimin asked.
Park Jimin has been your best friend since day one. Literally. Both your moms were best friends, so it was inevitable that you guys would be besties too. You guys attend the same University now, and even though your majors were different, you managed to get into the same mandatory elective.
“Yeah, that looks fine. Sorry, you know I don’t really care for what old white dudes had to say about, well, literally anything,” you reply.
“Neither do I. But the ancient Greeks had a lot to say about the birth of philosophy so here we are. Also if you can’t pay attention to our project, at least pay attention to me!” Jimin pouted.
Jimin has always been a needy baby, but only when it comes to you for some reason. Jimin has been a heartthrob since elementary school and proceeded to become class president starting in middle school. He won every year in a row (thanks to all the girls voting for him). Even though he won because of his popularity, he was still an extremely hardworking student. He made sure the council’s ideas were all heard and worked his hardest to implement whatever project they wanted that year. You admired-- and albeit were a little jealous-- of how perfect Jimin was. During high school, you realized you might have had a crush on him, but you quickly nipped that in the bud. Having a crush on your best friend? You couldn’t risk your friendship like that, it meant too much to you.
With that said, Jimin had always looked up to you as well. He loved the way you always spoke your mind, a trait that often got you in trouble in school. He loved the way you would apply yourself to something you’re passionate about and was delighted when you announced that you would be going to pursue your passion in art. Luckily for him, you both ended up at the same University. Jimin also loved that he knew the real you. Other people would probably say that you’re “cool” but have a cold demeanor, but he knew better. He knew that you were a huge sappy hopeless romantic, but would never tell anyone that. Anyone other than him of course.
“Yeah yeah okay you big baby. You want me to hold your hand too?” you teased, looking over the presentation one last time.
“Actually, yes I do,” Jimin smiled innocently as he plopped his hand onto the table. You rolled your eyes and took his hand anyway. He always does this. You always chalk it up to Jimin just being an affectionate guy, but what you don’t realize is that he’ll look for any excuse to be with you. He’ll do anything to be yours, but you’re too oblivious to all his tactics. Had you known that he had a crush on you, you would’ve pounced on him on the spot. But for now, you’re more than happy to call him your best friend.
“Well, I just turned it in for us. Congrats, now you have the rest of your weekend free from philosophy hell! Have any plans?” you ask.
“Not yet. But we can make plans! You wanna watch a movie at my place? We can order in and celebrate by being lazy! My roommates are gone for the weekend so we can do whatever we want. You kind of have to say yes because I already got a surprise for you,” Jimin smiled deviously.
“Oh yeah? Guess we do have plans then, I’m in. What’s the surprise?” you cock your head.
“I can’t tell you because it’s a surprise, dummy. Let me go back first to clean up a little, I don’t want you to think I’m living in a pigsty,” Jimin starts packing up his stuff.
“I’ve been over there plenty of times, I already know that you’re living in a pigsty,” you tease. Jimin gives you an overexaggerated shocked face.
“Well, then you should know that all that mess is made by my roommates. Not me. Just appreciate the fact that I care about you enough to clean up for you,” Jimin sasses.
“You care for me? How sweet! I never would have known. I’ll go back to my place and take a quick shower. I’ll text you when I’m heading over,” you shoot him a smile as you turn to walk back to your apartment.
“Sounds good! Actually, call me when you’re ready, and I’ll come pick you up,” Jimin stated.
“What? No, you don’t have to--”
“I insist!”
“I’ve walked to your place countless times. It’s fine I can--”
“I wanna come pick you up!” Jimin whines. You give in. There’s no use in arguing with him when he’s like this.
“Okay fine! See you later, weirdo,” you laugh. You wave and head back to your apartment.
Back at your apartment, you slip into the shower and crank the temperature to the sweet spot between a soothing flow of hot water and scalding your skin. The shower has always been your safe space where your thoughts could float from one cloud to the next without the fear of judgment by anyone. You wonder what Jimin could possibly have brewed up this time. He was never the type to surprise anyone, so you are puzzled as to what spurred up this novel side of Jimin. Even though your thoughts beg you to stay in the shower just a bit longer, you force yourself out and quickly pat down your body.
Although you had long since snipped the feelings you had for Jimin, the small bud still had its roots somewhere deep inside of you. You realize this as your heart sputters erratically with the thought of being surprised by Jimin. Looking in the mirror, you see your face has taken on an unfamiliar glow and excitement. It’s just platonic, you remind yourself, but the flush in your face betrayed what your mind was saying.
With your towel wrapped around you, you scan your closet for something to wear. You remind yourself that it wasn’t that serious because it was Jimin. Your day one. Your supposed “brother” figure. Just one of the guys, you remind yourself. So after a few minutes of deliberation, you decide on a t-shirt and jeans (typical). However, before you walk out the door you slip on the bracelet that Jimin had made you back in elementary school.
It was weathered now, the letters on the beads were losing their colors, but it fits onto your wrist with a familiarity that calmed you. You call Jimin, as he insisted that you should, and when he picks up any nervousness that you had felt in the shower is mellowed by the familiarity of his voice.
“___! You ready for me to come over and pick you up?” Jimin’s voice is sprightly, as if the only thing containing him from bursting was a thin film of cellophane. You smile, wondering why you ever doubted in the first place.
“Yup!” you answer, “But I’m not patient, so hurry up!”
Jimin’s car pulled up to your apartment complex promptly five minutes after you had called him, and you feel your heart do a small jig again as you still haven’t got a single clue as to what surprise he had in store for you. You slip into the passenger seat as you had done countless times before, but this time...this time felt different. Not off, just...different.
The drive to Jimin’s place wasn’t long, but for some reason, the minutes seemed to drag on for what felt like an eternity. As Jimin’s car neared the familiar facade of his apartment complex, you felt the excitement build up in your chest. Jimin parks the car and promptly makes his way to your side before you can even get your seatbelt all the way off.
“I can’t wait for you to see what I have planned for you,” his usual charm is cranked up all the way, and you blush but you try to push that softness into the platonic zone.
“If it isn’t a good surprise, you’re legally obligated to pay for the pizza tonight,” you teased him lightly. Knowing Jimin and his characteristic ways of getting everyone to like him you knew that he wasn’t one to disappoint.
Jimin dramatically wiped invisible tears from his eyes, “You do not have enough faith in me, ___.” He extended his hand expectantly, and although you were caught off guard, you quickly accept his outstretched hand. Just friends, remember? As he helps you out of his car, you feel the blush bloom into what you were horrified was reminiscent of a cherry tomato. You hope your hand wasn’t clammy, but you try to remind yourself that he’s seen the worst of you since you were a child. He can handle some sweaty palms.
After making your way to the door, Jimin steps in front of you with both of his hands up, “Hold on. You have to close your eyes.”
“Jimin,” you roll your eyes, but he made his signature puppy face that had a 100% success rate of making you yield to him. You chuckled breathily, but comply, “Alright, dummy.”
You hear the sound of the rickety wooden door open and try to overcome the urge to peek. To your surprise, Jimin’s hands are on your shoulders, and you can feel his breath on your neck. It sends your heart into another race, and you hope that he doesn’t hear the pounding in your chest. Jimin guides you into his apartment, cautious to not let you bump into anything. Finally, he stops, and his hands leave your shoulders.
“Okay, you can open your eyes now!”
When you do, your eyes are somewhat overwhelmed. His living room is decorated with little fairy lights, and little glow in the dark stars speckled his usually plain white walls. The best part, though, was the tent that was smack dab in the middle of the living room. There were pillows that paved a way towards the humble abode. You hear laughter that sounds like the prettiest of bells, and you realize that it’s coming from you.
“We always wanted to make a hideout with pillows and blankets, but we never really got around to it,” Jimin began to explain, “So I...I just thought you’d like it…”
You pounce onto him with a fierceness that almost sends him backward, “Oh Jimin, I love it so much!” His arms, though initially surprised from your attack, hug you back in a warm, familiar embrace. Without warning, you feel his lips press into the side of your face, and you freeze up for a minute. The tenderness of his kiss makes you melt, and before long you thaw up and don’t even bother to break the embrace.
“___, I have something to tell you,” Jimin whispers, his voice muffled as he snuggles his face into your hair. If your heart was racing before, now it was beating absolutely manically, but you don’t move. Could it be?
You return the affection by snuggling back into him, your heart pounding so hard you’re almost certain he could hear it, “Yes Jiminie?”
“I couldn’t choose between Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. I know you love both so I figured you can choose,” he giggled into your ear. You feel your heart deflate, but were quick to cast the disappointment aside.
“Can we pick a Studio Ghibli movie instead? I feel like that would fit the vibe better,” you hear your voice waver. You hoped Jimin didn’t notice it.
“We can absolutely do that! Great choice. Mmm, you wanna watch Spirited Away? I know that’s your favorite,” Jimin pulls away from you to venture over to his DVD collection.
You nod your head and give him a warm smile. You admonish yourself for getting your hopes up. Jimin is your best friend. He’s also such a sweetheart. Of course he would do this for his best friend. His day one bud.
Jimin puts on the movie and crawled into the tent. He wiggled his butt at you to make you laugh before turning around and gesturing for you to join him.
“Wait! Can you bring some pillows pleaaaase? I thought they’d help tie everything together as a walkway--which they totally did-- but those are all that I have,” Jimin gave you an innocent smile.
You roll your eyes at him but couldn’t suppress your smile as you launched the pillows at him.
“We can have a pillow fight after the movie! Get your ass in here,” Jimin whined.
“Coming! Wait, do you want me to get snacks first?” you ask.
“You really do not have enough faith in me. Everything we’d ever need is already here! Except for the most important thing. You,” Jimin’s lips curled into a soft smile.
“Alright you big mushball, scoot over,” you crawl in beside him. Your heart skipped a beat when he called you the most important thing, but again, you set it aside. He says these kinds of things all the time, and yet everything feels different tonight.
You sat side by side, huddled together under a shared blanket once the movie started. A wave of nostalgia washed over you as you ate your pizza topped with popcorn. Jimin thought it was gross, but you always argued that it was the most efficient way to eat during movie nights. As Haku and Chihiro made their way into the bathhouse, Jimin leaned closer to you.
“Done eating?” he whispered.
“Yeah, what’s up?” you respond, not taking your eyes off the screen.
“Can we...cuddle?” Jimin asked shyly.
“Are we not cuddling right now?” you say dryly.
“No I mean like... cuddle cuddle. I’m not really comfortable like this,” Jimin said. You look over to him and see him looking at the floor, his cheeks were barely visible in the dim lighting but you could tell they were flushed.
“Sure Jiminie, we can cuddle. How do you want me?” you ask.
Jimin pauses the movie and repositions the pillows. He lays down sideways with the pillows comfortably propping up his head.
“Come be my little spoon, y/n,” he says reaching out to you.
You smile and wiggle back into the tent to join him. You lay beside him, using his arm as your pillow (Jimin is gonna regret that later but he didn’t have the heart to ask you to move). You get as comfortable as you could in front of him, while still leaving a little gap between you two. As you open your mouth to tell him that you’re ready, Jimin wraps an arm around you to pull you into him. You let out a soft gasp as you feel your back rub up against his chest--which was surprisingly firm.
“Is this okay?” he asked, his breath tickling your ear.
“Yeah I’m good, can you see?” you’re relieved that he can’t see you, as your face heated up and was most definitely red.
“Yeah, you’re perfect.”
“What?”
“I mean, this is perfect. This uh position is perfect...I’m comfortable. Unless you’re not. Then I’m not. I mean uh--”
“Okay silly, then play the movie,” you chuckle at how cute he was.
Jimin normally never loses his charm, so hearing him stumble over his words was rare. Jimin gave you a tight squeeze after he hit play, and the two of you remained like that for the remainder of the movie.
After the movie finished, you were nearly asleep in Jimin’s arms. Spirited Away always put you at ease, since you had nothing but happy childhood memories associated with it.
“___~” Jimin softly sang in your ear.
“Whaaaaat~” you sang back.
“Thanks for coming over tonight, even though I gave you no choice,” Jimin said, nuzzling your ear.
“Of course, what are best friends for?” you giggle, he knew your ears were ticklish, “You kicking me out now?”
“Not yet. You know how I said I had something to tell you earlier?”
“Yeah, asking me to choose between Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings?”
“Yeah that. That’s actually not really what I wanted to say. I mean I was going to ask you that because I really couldn’t choose but--”
“Just spit it out, Jimin,” you turn around to face him, his face just a few inches from yours. Jimin sighed and leaned closer to you, resting his forehead against yours.
“I’vebeeninlovewithyouforsolongIcan’thideitanymore,” he blurted out in one breath.
You were shocked. You didn’t know how to react. You couldn’t tell if it was relief, surprise, or excitement that flooded your mind. All you knew was that your heart was soaring. You’ve never experienced such happiness from one sentence before. You pondered all of this in silence before you realized that Jimin was looking at you expectantly. After all, he did lay his heart on the line for you.
“Say that again, but slowly. I wanna make sure I heard you properly,” you chuckle.
“Don’t tease me!”
“I’m not! I’m being serious! You became a rapper all of a sudden and I couldn’t fully understand you,” this time it was you giving Jimin puppy dog eyes.
“I said, I’ve been in love with you for so long I can’t hide it anymore. My roommates asked about us the other day, and I told them we were best friends. They all made fun of me, saying that everyone always thought we were a couple. They made me realize that I actually was, and have been, so madly in love with you. It’s okay if you don’t feel the same way. It actually feels amazing to finally get that off my chest,” Jimin shyly looked away.
You cupped his face and responded, “Of course I feel the same way, dummy. All this time I’ve been trying to bury my feelings because I didn’t want to jeopardize our friendship. I love you too, Jimin,” you lean in slowly and kissed him tenderly.
You’ve always imagined his lips to be soft and supple. You were 100% correct.  You pull away and smile against his mouth before he pulls you back in. This time, the kiss is needier, as if to make up for all the years you guys could’ve been doing this sooner. Jimin rolls on top of you, assuming a dominant position. This time he pulls away.
“Are you sure you want to do this? Our friendship will never be the same,” he locks eyes with yours.
“You’re right. I think our friendship will be even better. As lovers. If you’ll have me,” you rest your arms around his neck.
“Of course, I’ll have you, ___. Let me show you what you’ve been missing out on all these years,” Jimin smirks as your heart beats faster and you rub your thighs together.
He bends over gently to kiss you again, but the sweetness only covers the soft hunger underneath, like a chocolate coated strawberry. Before the kiss can last long he breaks it, and you want to protest but stopped when his lips press into your neck. And then your collar bones. Your breath comes in quick spurts, and every inch of your skin is charged with electricity, like livewire. Jimin seems to hear this because he smirks and nips gently at your earlobe.
His hands gently trace your t-shirt up, and you raise your arms expectantly. He takes your shirt off in one smooth motion, and your eyes meet with his, “Are you doing okay?”
Your voice is breathy, but you manage, “Couldn’t be better.”
He smirks again and leans over you to dot your torso with gentle kisses. Then, his hands are at the waistline of your jeans, and they pause ever so slightly before undoing the button. You silently thank whatever god exists in the sky for choosing today of all days to go for the cute, lacy underwear you had gotten on sale in a lingerie store meant for women who got more action than you.
“Tell me if anything gets uncomfortable, okay?” Jimin looks nervous, and you’ve never seen him lose his composure like this. This novel vulnerability and earnest in his eyes make your chest grow warm with tenderness. You nod fervently, and he laughs into your thighs. The sensation brings warmth between your legs.
His fingers hesitate over the edge of the lacy fabric before he gently tugs your panties down the length of your legs. You can feel the ache, the need for him to lay his hands on you. Jimin kisses the inside of your thighs, murmuring, “I will always love these thighs you always complain about.” His lips linger daintily on your skin, and you try not to squirm or move, as if this moment would evaporate if you made any sudden movements.
Almost instinctively, your hand finds its way to his soft, shiny locks. You have imagined the feeling of his hair running through the space between your fingers, but no imagination could do the real experience justice. He pushes your legs apart, and you almost want to scream in anticipation.
Then his head dips into the aching place between your legs, and you feel yourself gasping in pleasure as his mouth finds its place to where you wanted him most. His tongue slowly glides over your clit, and your back arches, moving your body against his mouth. Your fingers grip his hair as if it is the thread of life, and your breath comes faster and shallower.
He chuckles, and the vibrations of the sound make you ache for him all the more. In your frenzy, you let the words slip from your lips, “More, please.”
His tongue picks up its leisurely pace to a more rhythmic motion, and just when you thought it couldn’t feel better you gasp when you feel his finger push through your entrance. His free hand rested on your torso, a cooling patch to your otherwise hot skin.  It was as if you were made only for him, and he was only made for you. The way in which you both moved brought you to a point of madness from the pleasure. As he continued, you felt the pleasure spike, climbing and climbing to its highest point.
But before you could be let off the cliff, Jimin pauses, “What do you want, ___?” His eyes stare at you with its familiar charm because knowing he was the cause of your pleasure brought back the confidence you were used to.
“I want you,” you practically whimper between pants.
He smiles mischievously, and his head and fingers return where they were, working you quickly back up to the peak. This time though, he continues his motions pushing you closer to the edge, until finally, finally you are given your release. Your release courses through your body like a storm, your body almost convulsing with pleasure. His hair is now a rat’s nest from your fingers, and he smiles into your legs continuing. He doesn’t release you until you practically scream from the stimulation, causing waves of pleasure.
Finally, he lets you go from his mouth, and his lips make a pathway up from your crotch all the way back up to your lips. You taste yourself on his lips, and you want to drown in him as his kisses grow hungrier. You finally break the kiss, and look up at him with a boldness that you had never felt before, “I suppose it’s your turn now?”
Jimin’s eyes lit up, “Only if you’re feeling generous.”
Without another word, you took Jimin by surprise as you shifted your weight to flip yourself on top of him. You pause before straddling his waist.
“I don’t think it’s fair that I’m completely naked and you’re not,” you say as you begin to tug at the end of his shirt.
“That can be fixed,” Jimin smiles as he removed his shirt to reveal his abs. You caught your breath. You knew Jimin was fit, but you never realized he looked this good.
You begin to unbutton his pants and attempted to strip them off. They were a lot tighter than you anticipated so you were struggling. Jimin couldn’t help but laugh at how determined you were as you began to aggressively tug at his legs. You tried to give him a sad pouty face, but couldn’t resist in joining his laughter. There you both were. Sitting in a tent in the middle of Jimin’s apartment. One of you completely naked, while the other was getting there with a bit of conflict. And you guys were laughing your asses off. The atmosphere didn’t feel sexy or seductive at all. Instead, you two were completely comfortable and were vibing off of that contentment.
Jimin finally helped you take his pants off, but left his underwear on. You never really understood the expression “pitched tent” in this context until now. Jimin’s raging boner stood high against the restraints of his underwear. You couldn’t help but stare at it for a second before palming it gingerly. As soon as you touched it, Jimin shuddered and let out a sigh.
“Sorry, I’ve just been dreaming about this for a while now. Hope that’s not weird…” Jimin blushes.
“Let’s see if I live up to your expectations,” you look up at him with a wily smile.
You tug at his waistband down, allowing his erection to spring free. You were impressed and a little intimidated at its sheer size. Not wanting to disappoint, you started stroking him slowly from the base all the way to the tip. You watched his face contort with pure bliss as you applied more pressure and used a faster pace.
You couldn’t hold in your lust any further. You teasingly licked the tip of his cock. Jimin whimpered in response. This peaked your intrigue, you never thought you’d hear Jimin like this. Yeah, he could be whiny on a daily basis, but you wouldn’t have imagined it in the bedroom.
With the head of his cock in your mouth, you start to swirl your tongue around it. Jimin starts to whine louder and his hands entangle themselves in your hair. Deciding not to tease him any longer, you experiment to see how much of him you can take. You can’t even get to the base of his dick without gagging. As you bob your head rhythmically up and down, you hand glides over what you can’t fit in your mouth. This seems to be working beautifully for Jimin, as his grip on your hair became more firm and his whines turned into drawn out moans.
“Oh god, ___. You’re better than anything I could’ve ever dreamt of,” Jimin groaned as he pulled you off of him, “If you keep going like that, I’m gonna blow my load way too soon. I still wanna dick you down tonight. If you want to, of course.”
“I would love nothing more. Do you have a condom? I’m not on any birth control,” you say.
“When I said this tent has everything we’d ever need, I wasn’t kidding,” Jimin beamed as he pulled out a condom from under the pizza box.
“What would you have said if I moved the pizza box for some reason?” you asked, giggling.
“I dunno. I just prayed that you wouldn’t. Either way,” Jimin pushed you back beneath him, “I’m glad I put it there. May I have the honors?”
“Go for it dude,” you stick your tongue at him. You loved the way that everything felt so natural with him.
Jimin slips on the condom before aligning himself with your entrance. He leans over to kiss you as he slides in slowly. The stretch caused you to moan into his mouth. Once he bottomed out, he slipped his hands into yours. Gazing into your eyes, he started to buck his hips into yours faster. You started to moan and closed your eyes to fully enjoy the pleasure.
“Keep your eyes on me, ___,” you hear Jimin say, “I want all of your attention on me.”
You open your eyes and smile up at Jimin. You wrap your arms around his neck and pull him closer to you. Jimin plants kisses along your neck. Your moans become more haggard as you feel a familiar knot coil within you.
“Ji-Jimin I’m close,” you pant.
“Me too, ___,” Jimin responds, his eyebrows furrowed, “Let’s finish together. Can you do that with me, ___?”
You didn’t get the chance to answer. You let out a loud cry as your high overcame you. Feeling your pussy tighten over his cock, Jimin drilled into you even faster. It wasn’t long before Jimin all met his sweet release. With one final thrust, Jimin groaned as came inside of you.
You were both spent. Jimin collapsed beside you, pulling off the condom to inspect it.
“Nice, no breakage!” Jimin cheered as he tied it up. Jimin wrapped his arms around you, pulling you in for a big hug.
“Jimin, I’m all sweaty,” you say, trying to wiggle free from his grasp.
“Oh yeah? Well so am I! I’ve been covered in worse than your sweat now anyway,” Jimin nuzzles into your neck.
“Gross! But also true,” you couldn’t help but laugh, “Jimin, you know we can never go back to what we were before, right?”
“Yeah, I know. And why would I want to? We both admitted that we love each other, I don’t see a problem. I love you, ___. I always have. And I’m pretty sure I always will,” Jimin whispers into your neck.
“Same goes for me. I’ve been head over heels for you ever since high school,” you kiss his forehead.
“I’ll do you one better. I’ve been in love with you ever since day one,” Jimin plants a final kiss before you both drift off to sleep in each other’s arms.

rwrb and the five love languages | part three
in which a young ellen and oscar make a life-altering decision
The sun boils Ellen Claremont and Oscar Diaz as they stand outside Marlene’s Diner. Even in December, the Texas heat shows no mercy. The parking lot is full of cars for the lunch rush, and as much as her manager hates it, Ellen had to take her fifteen now. Oscar is on his way home.
Seems like yesterday he and a bunch of his white-collared buddies popped into Marlene’s and sat down at a table in Ellen’s section, but it was eight months ago. She thought she was about to get catcalled and a two-penny tip, but instead she gave the table advice on how to help David Morwitz, an Austin democratic candidate for state representative, gain more votes among young people. And Oscar wouldn’t leave until he got her number—for political reasons of course. That is until she made out with him after a Young Texas Democrats rally and he discovered the blue bonnet tattoo on her lower back.
He was fresh out of law school, hoping to build his political resume so he could run for office one day, and she was just finishing up her second year, living on tips and volunteering where she could. And, like all young lovers, they spent the whole summer and fall talking about their hopes and fears, their darkest secrets and greatest dreams.
“The Supreme Court, eh? One of the justices?”
“No,” she told him, “I just want to argue a case there. Set precedent.”
He smiled, showing off that goddamn dimple on his cheek. “You could go farther—the highest point even.”
She laughed and shook her head. “I’m looking to help the little guy, Diaz. I can do that anywhere.”
“Then why not the presidency?” When she scoffed, he said, “Fuck you, I’m serious. I’ve seen you in action, Claremont. The protest you organized for the clinic they shut down? You’re incredible.”
That moment hugs her as she struggles to let go of Oscar’s hands. They’re rough from the field work he did in high school but also calloused from his guitar. She spent months learning the lines on his hands; she can draw them from memory, as he can with the curves of her hips.
His flight leaves in two hours. Ellen will have to watch the blue sky for planes, imagining him soaring away with his Walkman playing a worn-out Latin tape. Maybe if Morwitz won, things could be different.
But they’re not. She’s still filling coffee cups and handing out “yes, ma’ams” and “yes, sirs” like they’re pocket change. And he’s still going back to California to join an immigration law firm.
“Claremont,” he starts, “I don’t know what to say. These past few months—”
“I know,” she says. Lord, do not let her bawl in front of this man—not like she hasn’t before when the anniversary of her mother’s death came around. But still, she’s got to leave him with the image of the take-no-shit, strawberry-blond fireball she is.
They stare into each other’s eyes for a moment. God, she’ll never forget this man even if she tries. His curly black hair swoops over his eyebrows and behind his ears. His sleeves seem permanently rolled up, his tie loosened. Oscar somehow carries the lackadaisical Cali-boy in his smile and the strength against generational oppression in his eyes. The sorrow of goodbye shows in his drooping shoulders. Ellen knows she can set them straight with one kiss on the lips and a hand somewhere else.
Instead, she drops his hands and looks away.
“Ask me to stay,” Oscar says, reaching for her waist.
Ellen can’t bear to look into his warm, brown eyes and tell him to go. She puts her hands on his chest and feels his heart beating under them. His beautiful, fighting heart. “I won’t do that, Diaz. If the situation were reversed, I’d slap you for suggesting it.”
He pulls her chin up, forcing her to look at him. “The situation’s not reversed, Ellen. Ask me to stay.”
Lord, every time her first name rolls off his tongue electricity shoots down her back, and now it meets the lightning rod that is his hand on her tattoo. It takes everything in her not to jump him in this parking lot. Damn the cars driving past them. Damn the diner patrons watching through the windows. Damn the Bible-thumper preaching from the street corner. The world should stop for her goodbye to the man that shocks her too her very core with one touch.
“Oscar.”
“Ellen.”
His forehead presses into hers, and his hand meets the other on the small of her back. She can’t help but wrap her arms around his neck, like they’re about to sway to an overrated pop song at a high school dance. He smells like he always does: cheap cologne and sweat, and holding him—being held by him—feels like taking a wrong turn on the drive home just so you can finish your favorite song.
“You don’t want me to leave, right?” Oscar asks.
“No, but this is crazy. You can’t stay here. What would you do? What would we do?”
Favorite song—favorite person be damned, too. Hasn’t it crossed his mind that his life can’t just transfer to Texas? The campaign is over, and his family and career are back in California. He’s being stupid, and she’s letting him.
Touching him makes her irrational, so Ellen lets go and steps back. “I mean, Lord help us, Diaz! Have you even thought about this?”
“What’s there more to think about? I love you and you love me! We’ll figure out the rest.”
“Oh, do not give me that ‘love conquers all’ bullshit! You’re smarter than that!” she says.
Her fifteen has got to be over by now, but fuck it. Her manager can wait. She’ll stand her and scream at Oscar; she’s developed quite an affinity for it. God bless him.
“Maybe it does—”
“Bull-fucking-sh—”
“No!” He grabs her hands, and she doesn’t fight it. “With all the shit we’ve been through, can’t you see it’s brought us here? Right now, Claremont. You and me. We’ve got something; we want the same things. Let’s do it. Come on, Ellen, let’s just fucking do it!”
And he kisses her. It’s not desperate, but gentle and resolute. Her hands find the nape of his neck again, and she tangles her fingers in his soft curls. Sunflowers bloom in her belly. Oscar squeezes her hips in his hands. Sweet baby Jesus. She can’t let him go. She’ll have to kill him first.
He pulls away—only a centimeter or two—and says again, “Ask me to stay.”
Eight months of this shit. Eight months of diner banter and canvassing and takeout movie nights and fucking in his motel room or her tiny-ass apartment or one of their cars. Eight months of law school papers and screaming matches and tequila and talking for hours until one of them crashes and the other cuddles up to fall asleep. Eight months of hands—his and hers—intertwined like they’re holding the Earth together.
“Stay,” she whispers. A car blares its horn, so she barely hears herself say it. But she does.
“Stay with me, and we’ll change the fucking world.”
As stubborn as she is, so is he. They match in some weird way, and Ellen can’t remember the last time she found a person like that. Fucking Oscar Fucking Diaz. She’ll get on her knees for him or step on his neck if he asks nicely enough. She’ll spend hours critiquing his debate strategies or peering over his shoulder while he proofs one of her assignments. She’ll bake him peach cobbler or devour his mole and anything it touches. Oscar’ll play the guitar, and she’ll sing along.
“Good because I already accepted a job with Representative Acosta. He’s from 54.”
“Fuck you!” Frustrated, angry, and smiling, Ellen shoves his shoulders. “I know where he’s goddamn from! But what the hell were you pulling my leg that far for?”
He puts on that Diaz smirk and trails a finger down her hip. “Pretty legs though.”
“I’ll fry you up and serve you for dinner if you ain’t careful,” she deadpans.
“Promise?” Oh, good Lord.
“I hate you.”
“You love me.”
Ellen grabs his jaw, rubs a finger over that fucking dimple, and pulls him to her lips.
“I do,” she says.

Verboten 16 | (T)
ff.net | AO3
Fandom: Danny Phantom (DP)
Summary: AU. When Danny was five years old, he went missing for 2 weeks. In the years that follow, his family tried to make sense of what happened, only for the truth to be discovered years later.
Warnings: rated T for violence, mentions of death, language. Be prepared for some very weird things
Parings: Danny/Sam
Notes: originally uploaded to Ff.net. Cross-posted to AO3 and tumblr. This fic is very heavily inspired by folklore surrounding mysterious wilderness disappearances
Chapter 16
As Danny waited outside with the rest of the guests, his parents and Vlad met up with him. After they handed him a bag filled with one of his favorite Nasty Burger meals, he gave them a quick rundown of what he knew, save for the appearance of the ghost. While frustrated, his parents shuffled him into the RV so he could eat and warm up a bit. It was a chilly fall day after all.
As he ate, Danny vaguely wondered how his parents managed to convince Vlad, the man with the limo, to go across town with them. His dad’s driving prowess… well, lack thereof… was famous in the area. The townsfolk and even the police steered clear of any known Fenton vehicle. In actuality, he had no idea how his dad hadn’t lost his license.
After a couple hours, the fire department cleared the building with the exception that rooms on the second floor could not be used until the police preformed an investigation to verify whether or not arson occurred. The rooms on that floor would also need cleaned. Thankfully, little damage ended up being done from the fire: a few pieces of furniture and some scorch marks. The majority of the damage ended up being from the hotel’s sprinkler system.
After collecting their items, his parents drove to a large house on the outskirts of the housing plan where Sam lived. After asking what they were doing there, Vlad matter-of-factly stated he just finalized the payment on it. Danny’s utter confusion had to be evident as his parents explained Vlad recently decided to purchase a house in Amity Park since he would be around more to help with the research.
Well, it explained why it took his parents so long to get food. While the act itself didn’t seem that strange for Vlad, he did own a castle in Wisconsin after all, something about the timing bothered him. With the rare exception of a day when there was a major experiment malfunction, Vlad tended to stay with the family upon his visits. Exactly how long would he be in town if he needed to buy a new house?
After getting a quick tour of the house, Danny retired to his temporary room and called his friends. The three way call ended up being hectic as he explained what happened. “Guys, I’m telling you, I saw a ghost, and then somehow the hotel caught fire.”
“Calm down, Danny,” Sam instructed. “I know you’re telling the truth, but geez, how in the world did you end up being the center of so much trouble in two days?”
“My mom said something about me possibly attracting paranormal things now.”
“Makes sense, in a weird sort of way,” Tucker agreed as typing could be heard on his end. “I’ll see if I can dig up any stories of ghosts like what you saw this time.”
“Don’t worry about it, Tucker. You’re already looking into those files.”
“Nah, this’ll be easy. It’ll only take a couple minutes at most to set up a search and have it run in the background while we talk. Any specific things that stood out?”
“Other than the blue flaming hair?” He sighed and collapsed on his bed. “If she hadn’t been a ghost, she would have looked right at home in one of those bands Sam likes. She said she wanted to make people remember she still exists.”
“So she looked like a goth?” Sam questioned.
“Yeah, but with some, uh… I think you’d say she’s more punk.”
“Woah! That’s weird,” Tucker stated after something on one of his tech devices beeped in the background. “So, apparently there have been a series of spontaneous fires that seem to occur about every ten years, but they started after the death of a local girl. Some people think it’s her ghost that causes them. I’ll send you the articles.”
It took only seconds for the article links to be sent. Danny nearly dropped the phone when the picture of the mentioned girl appeared on the screen. With the exception of the hair, the girl’s face matched that of the ghost. “That… that’s her! Wow, she really doesn’t look that much different as a ghost.”
“Wait, you’re serious?” Sam hummed as she reviewed the information. “Says here while she was unpopular at school, she was in a local band. She was found dead after her house burned down mysteriously. The police thought it might of been an arson, but officials were never able to verify anything. After her death and around its anniversary, there were reports of fires in the city. Sometimes, entire buildings are engulfed, but other times the words ‘you will remember’ appear burned into buildings.”
“I kinda remember hearing my dad mention something about ghost fires growing up, but with it being my dad, I never put any stock into it.”
“My mom said something about it once.”
“I have no idea why I keep forgetting your mom works for 911,” Sam interrupted. “You know, we might be able to use that to our advantage.”
“I mean, you can try, but she refuses to talk about anything other than the occasional funny call. The one about the ‘bambulance’ still brings me to tears.”
“Tuck, you’re getting distracted.”
“Right. Anyways,” some typing could be heard on Tucker’s end, “my mom thought the fires were from the girl’s bandmates. They had just recorded a song called ‘Remember’ which got some local play before she died. Since I know asking Mom for anything else is pointless, I think I’m gonna see if I can get into the files of those fires. The news articles all have explanations, but some of them seem a bit over the top.”
“How long will that take?”
Danny snorted. “Sam, it’s Tucker. Knowing him, he’s already looking at them.”
“I’m hurt, Sam. Do you really have that little faith in me?”
“I know you’ll be able to get them eventually. You’re track record hasn’t been all that great recently. You’ll still working on those files you got from Plasmius, after all.”
“Oh, I’ve finished the review on those. Some of it isn’t pretty, but I wanted to verify information directly from Vlad Master’s companies. That’s been slow going ‘cause he has some impressive firewalls, and I’m really trying not to get caught. As for this,” Tucker briefly shouted in triumph, “I’ve already gotten what I need. Hmm… that’s weird. The official investigations regarding the ‘Ember fires’, as they’re called, all state there was no known cause of the fire. There wasn’t even evidence of an accelerant… which is…?”
“It’s something used to make a fire go from a few flames to a roaring fire. Think of what happens when you add gasoline to a fire,” Sam explained as tapping could be heard on her end. Was she at the computer too? “Most arsonists use one. If they don’t, unless the flames start where there’s something like tissue paper, sawdust, or something else really flammable, the fire usually takes a lot of time to grow and become a problem. Tuck, is there anything about flammable materials?”
“Hmm… no, not really.”
Danny sighed as he got off the bed and paced his temporary room. “Great, now there’s a fire starting ghost on the prowl, on top of Plasmius, that thing… and possibly whatever is wrong with that girl. Tuck, do you have any updates on anything?”
“On the Plasmius front, no. Like I said, I’m trying to cross-reference those files against the files from VladCo and DALV, but that’s taking a while due to his security. For the creepy thing that attacked you, I have a notification set up for any potentially related attacks. I think that’s all I can do for now on that… As for Maura, I got distracted a bit when Plasmius had that chat with you, but I can tell you she stopped posting on social media right after her disappearing act. That’s pretty weird for girls in her clique. Give me a couple days to get her medical chart.” Something beeped in the background. “Oh, it looks like I might have a pattern for our fire bug ghost.”
“At least that’s something. Can you send them to me?”
Sam snorted. “What, you’re gonna try to figure out where she’ll be and talk to her?”
“I mean, it’s worth a shot. Maybe she knows something about Plasmius or that thing? And… maybe I can nicely ask her to stop lighting fires?”
“I think you’re just gonna end up with your ass kicked, but go ahead.”
“Thanks for that wonderful vote of confidence,” Danny deadpanned. The ghost was nice enough to give him a warning so she couldn’t be all bad. “I think if I open up with a ‘thank you’, she won’t outright attack me.”
“It’s your funeral.”
“Actually, Danny, can you die?” Tucker hesitantly asked. “I mean… your situation is kinda weird.”
He thought about it for a few moments. “I think so. Clockwork told me I’m alive, so that’s good enough for me. But, to be honest, I don’t really wanna think about it too much.”
“That’s fair.”
Danny’s conversation only lasted a few more minutes after Tucker asked the awkward question as his parents called for him over an intercom system. Uncertain if the correct response to the intercom should be to cringe or be impressed, he pushed it from his mind as he meandered down the hallways to attempt to find his parents.
Something about the décor of the mansion seemed familiar, but Danny found it difficult to place it. Vlad loved the Green Bay Packers, and he commonly used their colors of green and gold for accents. He stopped in his tracks as he glanced around. Plasmius also had green and gold splashes in his home. It had to be a coincidence.
Not wanting to think about it more, he raced down the halls and eventually came to the main foyer. His dad shot him a questioning glance as his mother stood and moved towards him.
“Hi, sweetie! How are you adjusting? It’s been a hectic couple days.”
“I’m okay. I’m just a bit tired,” he told her as he dodged a hug. “I let Sam and Tucker know we’re fine. I’m not dealing with Jazz until after you guys talk to her.”
“I trust the room is to your liking?”
Danny jumped as Vlad’s voice came from behind him. How did he miss him? “Yes. Thanks for letting us stay.”
Vlad waved his hand dismissively. “It’s no trouble at all. My house is yours.”
“Vlad, you mentioned you had a workshop we can use?” His mother asked as she abandoned her attempts at hugging her son.
After staring at her for a second, Vlad shook his head and regained composure. “Surely that can wait until tomorrow, my dear. You’ve been through quite a lot in the past twenty-four hours.”
“No can do, Vladdy!” Jack boomed as he excitedly stood. “You heard those policemen. They want a Fenton product, and I can’t sit still when that spook is still a threat to my family. Say, do you want to help?”
The billionaire grimaced before forcing a smile. “I must politely decline, but I will gladly look over any blue prints in the morning.”
“Don’t worry,” Maddie told him while giving her husband a fond grin, “I know how… enthusiastic Jack can be when he has a new project. I’ll also make sure he sleeps tonight. We don’t want any accidents.”
“That would be greatly appreciated.”
Danny glanced between Vlad and his parents. There was some sort of story he was missing. “Should I ask?” he hesitantly questioned.
“I was badly injured when we were in collage when an experiment went wrong,” Vlad explained as his expression hardened. “As a result, I’ve made it a rule to not be in a room when someone is actively making experimental items or preforming experiments. However, I’ll gladly double check procedures, blue prints, set ups, and results.”
“I… yeah… That… that makes sense. But you’re okay now?”
“Absolutely, my dear boy. You could say I gained a different outlook on life as a result.” Vlad gave a predatory grin which sent shivers down Danny’s spine. “Why, if I hadn’t gotten into that accident, I probably wouldn’t have ended up so successful.”
“Right…” His mother must have caught something off in Vlad’s tone as she furrowed her brow in confusion. “It’s gotten pretty late. Danny, will you be alright?”
“Huh? Probably. I mean, I could use a snack.”
“The kitchen and pantry are just down that hall.” Vlad pointed towards the hallway opposite of the way Danny originally came. “Will you be alright to be back to your room once you’re done? If you wait, I can escort you back once I’m done showing your parents where the lab is.”
“Thanks, but I think I’ll be alright. ‘Night everyone.” Chuckling as his father couldn’t contain his excitement anymore and bounded down the hall followed by his amused mother and wary Vlad, he just made his way to the kitchen. It thankfully was easy to find, and after making a sandwich, he meandered his way back towards his room.
….
Around midnight, Danny decided he would attempt to sneak out of the mansion. Luckily for him, Vlad put him in a room on the ground floor, saying something about how the upper floors weren’t ready yet. Luckier still, there were no bars on the windows. Sam’s parents tried doing something like before due to how many times she snuck out, but it was struck down by her Grandma Ida, who still had control of the deed at that time.
Escape ended up being a piece of cake. There didn’t seem to be any type of security system or guard which seemed strange, but that would probably change once the mansion was officially finished.
He had an idea of where the ghost might end up appearing thanks to the articles Tucker forwarded to him earlier so he booked it in the direction of an older housing plan near the city’s boarder with Elmerton. The majority of buildings in the area were row houses in disrepair. While there were still a few low income families in the area, most of the houses were considered condemned. Danny remembered hearing talk of tearing the houses down at one point, but either the project was shelved or abandoned.
As he approached, he decided to shift to his ghostly form. While it seemed unlikely he would encounter anyone, the area did have a reputation for crime. While he didn’t know what sort of protection being a ghost would give him, it seemed a better option. And, if that thing tried attacking him again, maybe he could float to safety. He really hoped that thing didn’t appear; his trust in his abilities honestly was non-existent.
The soft glow of his ghost form provided the majority of the light as he silently found his way to the road where the girl used to live. The few street lamps were either broken or burnt out, and some even seemed melted.
His destination, Garnier Avenue, seemed worse than the surrounding streets. At first he thought the houses were just gutted, but a second look said otherwise. Most of them had some evidence of fire: melted windows, ash marks, and collapsed roofs and walls. Ash and dust could be found on the road as well as the sidewalk, and in some places, they almost looked like outlines of people.
The area seemed dead. No noise. No sound. No movement. As he continued to move forward, his hair stood on end and his breath misted in front of him. It was almost as if he walked into some sort of wall of static electricity.
“So this is what you actually look like. You’re not that bad looking after all,” a curious voice called to him, making him jump. Danny spun around to see the ghost from earlier materialize in front of him. Her appearance hadn’t changed, but she seemed more solid. Even her voice seemed closer and more natural. “Do you know how many of us would kill to be able to blend in that well?”
“Uh… I really wouldn’t know. This is really new to me,” Danny relied as he held up his hands in what he hoped was a submissive manner.
Her eyes narrowed. “So why are you here, baby pop? Do I interest you?”
He gulped at the undertones of her applications. “A little? I mean, you were nice enough to let me there would be a fire, and I wanted to thank you for that. And maybe ask a couple questions?”
“You just happened to be there at the right time,” she responded offhandedly though her satisfied smirk suggested his thanks was welcome. “It would be a waste to see someone like you get destroyed by accident. But, I would like to know how you found me.”
“I mentioned you to a friend of mine, and he was able to find out about your legend.” Danny hoped he sounded genuinely curious and not creepy. Wait, was it possible for him to not be creepy? He was a ghost after all.
She nodded. “I like to come back around the anniversary of my death. It helps strengthen me.”
“You do seem… I think stronger is the word I want.”
“Glad you noticed, and that makes you more observant than most of the guys I’ve met over the years. Call me, Ember.” Grinning again, she walked around him almost as if she was examining him.
“I’m Danny.”
She snorted. “Bet that’s your real name. Don’t met too many ghosts who remember theirs. You really must be new. Anyways, you had questions?”
“Yeah. I was hoping you might know something about this thing that’s been seen around the town. It attacked me, and it’s caused enough trouble to get the police interested.” When she didn’t immediately respond, Danny took that as a sign he could continue. So, he quickly explained his interaction with whatever the thing was. When he finished, Ember expression turned stony.
“You’re telling me something like that has been seen in my town?” she demanded. Her hair, which had been gently waving in an invisible wind, suddenly blazed in a blue flame. “Are you telling me one of those things have been seen here?”
Danny gulped and nodded. “Like I said, it attacked me! What are they? Plasmius doesn’t know what they are either.”
“Plasmius? Plasmius is here too?” The temperature around them spiked as she shrieked. “Are you working for him? You better answer me, Dipstick.”
===
Notes: ghostly fire is usually considered insubstantial and doesn't tend to cause damage. Actual paranormal fire damage is usually associated with poltergeists, and more modern theories classify poltergeists as creations of psychokinesis (PK) agents (normally living people) instead of spirits.
Ember's background is directly taken from information provided by one of the show's directors.
"Bambalance" is a reference to an old but hilarious 911 call. You can find it on YouTube under the title "the guy, the deer, the dog, and the bambulance." There is some foul language in it.
Also, there is a very subtle 'Phantom of the Opera' reference in this chapter.

survey by lilprincess
Approx. Time you began this survey: 6:46 on a Wednesday evening.
Describe your mood right now: Erm, a bit exhausted because I just ended a work shift; but content for the same reason. Right now I’m simply looking forward to dinner and crashing on the couch or my bed, wherever I feel like sleeping tonight.
Spell your first name without vowels: Rbn. Let’s just also remove y for this one.
Age you will be on your next birthday: 23.
Zodiac Sign: Taurus.
Do you believe what your horoscope says about your sign? I do not believe in astrology whatsoever.
What state/region do you live in? Somewhere in the Philippines somewhere close to Metro Manila.
Height: Like 5′1″ ish. I had a massive growth spurt in 4th grade that also ended in 4th grade, which will always be a funny story to tell people lmao. I went from being placed at the back of the class line to the front really quickly.
Do you smoke? Super occasionally. My last cigarette was like...all the way back in February last year. It was easier to hide the smell around my family before, but because my parents and siblings have mostly been staying at home in the last year it would be so easy to weed out the smell. I never feel like smoking anyway since I vape, so there’s been no reason to seek it out.
Do you drink? Yeah, sometimes socially and sometimes on my own if I wanna unwind and feel a lil buzz come through.
What's your ethnic background? Southeast Asian, specifically Filipino.
What's your religious background? Technically my ~background~ would be Catholic since I was born and baptized in that faith, but I’ve long let go of this. Excluding one very brief period in high school, religion was something I never held much belief and faith in, even if I've been taken to literally every Sunday mass for the last 23 years and even if I was enrolled in Catholic school from preschool to high school.
What's your natural hair color? Black.
What;s your natural eye color? Dark brown, almost black.
Do you have any bad habits you want to break? I do overtime work a lot but used to seldom file it on our company shift log sheet because I get shy that they must think I’m doing it just to be paid more, lol. I’m starting to file them every time I do OT though because fuck it, pay me.
Name a few of your positive habits. I like that I always find a way to meet deadlines. I like that I’m selfless, even though some would see it as a flaw. I’d rather do too much than say I never did anything at all.
Have you ever lived in a foreign country? No, the most I’ve done was travel to one for a week.
Did you vote in the Nov. 6 2012 presidential election? No because I am not American -___- The last election that took place before I was eligible was in 2010, and had I been able to vote then, I would’ve given mine to Gibo Teodoro, who I believe was the most qualified at the time.
Are you even eligible to vote? Yeah, I’ve been for the last 5 years. I’ve voted twice - once for the presidential elections back in 2016, and the next was for the senatorial elections in 2019.
Are you right handed or left handed? Right-handed.
When you write, is your penmanship usually neat or do you tend to scribble? It starts off neat for the most part, but it gradually gets messy and becomes more like a scribble if we’re talking about writing several essays in one sitting, which was usually the case in my exams in college.
Have you ever experienced an accident? (of any type): Sure, I’ve been in car accidents before. I’ve also been shocked once.
Do you have/want children? They would be nice to have, yeah.
Are you environmentally conscious? For the most part, yeah. But there are some things that can’t be helped, like me driving. Unless the government does something about the shitty public transport system that we have and have had for decades, I refuse to take it.
What's your favorite mode of transportation? Like I said, my own car. If I’m traveling, by plane.
Do you prefer 80's - 90's music compared to today's music? Eh, not at all. I prefer music produced these days.
Are you more of an introvert (quiet/shy), or extrovert (social butterfly)? I’ve been more of an extrovert in the last few years but I will always be shy at first upon meeting new people, like that will never change. I warm up a lot quickly now, though.
What's your favorite emoticon? :)
Do you miss the good old days of hand-written letters? I caught the super super super last part of this era, so I didn’t even get to experience it. I know snail mail was still kind of a thing when I was a kid, but at the same time that was happening my mom was also already using email to keep in touch with my dad, so.
Nowadays, though, when I do write letters to loved ones, I will still prefer to make handwritten ones, especially for a significant other or best friend. I don’t think I’ve ever sent out a computerized long letter.
Do you enjoy receiving or giving more? Giving, but it’s nice to be treated too sometimes.
Are you good at keeping secrets? Sure.
Do you take or give advice more often? I don’t usually get into situations wherein I’d have to do either, but I think I’ve been asking for advice more, especially over the last few months.
Do you have your driver's license? “I got my driver’s license last week, just like we always talked about...” Haha this question made me sing a bit. Anyway, yeah, I got it shortly after I turned 18 since I needed to quickly learn before college started.
Would you rather be poor & happy or rich but miserable? Rich but miserable. Soz but I’d solve 4854983594857 of my problems if I never had to worry about money.
Have you ever had a pregnancy scare? Never.
Have you ever blocked someone on Facebook? Probably not blocked, but I’ve unfollowed some current Facebook friends and unfriended others entirely.
Do you think recreational marijuana should be nationally legalized? Idk much about the topic since it’s taboo enough where I live, but sure, I guess?I haven’t heard one bad word about the effects of marijuana.
Describe your perfect first date. I’ve never really had a first date, but I imagine an ideal one would be pretty lowkey, just a stroll around a nice city and maybe have fancyish dinner somewhere.
Have you ever been high? Nope.
Have you ever watched a NC-17 rated film? Sure. A good handful of Kubrick films pass for NC-17, right? I’d be surprised if they weren’t, lol. I’ve been scarred by some of them for sure.
If you ever become reincarnated as an animal, what would you want it to be? A dog.
Do you remember where you were/what you were doing on September 11, 2001? No; I was 2 years old. I did ask my parents where they were in those moments, and my mom understandably missed most of it since the entire thing unfolded in the late evening in the Philippines. The only thing she can recall was being insanely worried for my dad, who had just started to work in the US back then.
Do you ever wish you were of a different nationality/religion? Yeah, to a certain extent, just because the political and socioeconomic situation here is very messy and it doesn’t really give us the nicest reputation in front of the world. I’m proud of my Filipino culture and heritage though.
Are you more of a junk food addict or health nut? Health nut is the last thing anyone should be calling me. But I’m not so much a junk food addict either? I do like spoiling myself with food, but I still monitor my intake.
Do you believe Antarctica should be considered the 7th world continent? Isn’t it already though?? We’ve always been taught there were 7 continents and Antarctica is one of them lol.
Describe your own sense of humor in 1 word: Gen-Z, if that counts as one word.
Have you ever quoted the Bible (or any other Holy Book)? If I ever did it was probably meant to be sarcasm.
Have you ever completed a Sudoku puzzle? No. Never figured out how to play it either.
Would you rather be a nuclear physicist or marine biologist? Marine biologist. That’s one step closer to one of my loves, biology. Plus I was never any good with physics, so.
Do you have a deep, dark secret you're hiding from every one? I guess.
Would you rather be able to soar like an eagle or swim like a dolphin? I’d make my childhood self happy and go with flight.
If you wanted to learn a foreign language, what would it be? Korean so I can finally stop reading subs, hahah.
Are you bi-curious? No.
Did you watch the Disney Channel or Nickelodeon more as a kid? The Nickelodeon cartoons were far more interesting to me. I think I only got into Disney when I got a little bit older, once I was able to appreciate the more mature content in shows like The Suite Life, That’s So Raven, etc. But for the most part our TV was always tuned into Nick Jr., Spongebob, Jimmy Neutron and the other Nick shows.
Name 5 films that were made the year you were born: American History X (great watch), The Truman Show, Mulan, La Vita e Bella if I’m not mistaken (one of my faves, no matter how gut-wrenching it is), and Shakespeare in Love.
Did you have a lot of friends in high school? Yes, eventually I did.
Do you rely more on the newspaper, Internet or TV as your news source? Social media these days since I find that online writers are far more discerning in their reporting than TV anchors, who stay neutral at best.
True or false: Bigger is better. Very vaguely put, but not always, I guess.
Do you think religion is the primary cause of war? No? There’ve been plenty other reasons for war.
What's your favorite pizza topping? ...Cheese.
Think of your wardrobe. What color do you wear the most? It’s still black, I think.
Have you ever been to a planetarium? Just once, on a middle school field trip. I’d love to come back, though.
Do you feel like you connect more with animals or other people? I don’t get to be with animals a lot other than my dogs, so I’ll go with people.
Do you feel like sometimes you have to lie in order to protect yourself? Wow so dramatically put haha but yeah, I suppose it does feel that way sometimes.
How often do you exercise? Literally never. I’ve stopped working out this year since I didn’t see the point, and I’ve stopped feeling like I had to ‘get back’ at my ex just by getting a more toned figure. I’m totally at peace with how my body looks, plus I never want to give up on my favorite foods and snacks lol so there’s that.
Can you swear in a different language? Putangina mong bobo kang gago ka. That’s three for ya.
Do you think teachers/doctors deserve to get paid more than pro athletes? Everyone deserves to be paid fairly to the point that no comparison should be necessary, period.
From a scale of 1- 5, you would rate this survey: Erm, a 4.5. I had to delete some questions I didn’t feel comfortable answering or that I found a little meh, but the rest I fairly enjoyed.
Do you think most of these questions were more original or more ordinary? It’s a bit in between.
Approx. time you completed this survey: Hahahahah 10:38 PM. I took a million breaks.

Tumblr media
all your life, you never thought you could meet someone like lee donghyuck. the epitome of a high school sweetheart. he was everything you could dream of. donghyuck was perfect in your eyes and will always be, no matter what.
you first met him when you were in sixth grade, when he first transferred to your school. almost instantly, you two became friends due to your friendly persona. it’s like you two just instantly clicked and skipped the awkward stage.
it didn’t take a while for you guys to catch feelings for each other. he was like your other half afterall. you remember it like it was yesterday, the day he asked you to be his.
“can i ask you something?” donghyuck holds your hand while you two sit in a dark playground late at night. “anything” you smile at your best friend. donghyuck nervously laughs as he stares off somewhere else. you feel his hand get damp making you chuckle. “hyuck your hands are sweaty” you chortled, letting go of his hand. haechan wipes his sweaty hands against the fabric of his sweatpants before taking both of your hands again, swaying them.
“i hope this doesn’t ruin our friendship” he starts, making you raise a brow. “what?” you asked. donghyuck clears his throat before finally asking you the question he’s been dying to ask you.
“will you be my girlfriend..?” he stares deeply in your eyes. you felt like the world stopped spinning for a moment, like you two were frozen in time. “it’s okay if you don’t feel the same way, just forget i asked” he says slowly, averting his gaze from you to his shoes, kickng the sand.
“hey” you cup his cheek, forcing him to look at you. “yes. i’ll be your girlfriend” you kissed his cheek making him turn red. “FUCK YES” donghyuck yells in triumph, throwing his fist up in the air.
“you know, i’ve been wanting to ask you that since we first met” he tells you as you two walk home hand in hand.
———
for the first half of your relationship, you kept your relationship hidden from your friends. not that it was a bad thing, you just wanted to enjoy your relationship in peace without anyone lurking in your business.
but as for someone like donghyuck who’s very much very open to the public, he publicly expressed his love for you for the first time in the middle of the cafeteria one day.
“attention y/n!” hyuck screams into the megaphone, almost bursting everyone’s ears. “what do you want donghyuck” you groaned, not liking the attention from bystanders. “i just want to say that i love you very much” he jumps down from the cafeteria table and hands you a bouquet of flowers. pretty much surprising everyone in school
and the crowd cheers as you take the bouquet of flowers from him and kissed him on the cheek. “and i love you too” you whisper in his ear, making him giggle.
ever since then, the school voted the two of you as the high school sweethearts.
———
just like you’ve imagined it, you never felt so loved by anyone else. donghyuck gave you everything he had. he poured his heart and soul into each thing he has done for you and you couldn’t ask for anything more. but as your relationship grows older, you found yourself growing distant from him more and more.
during the end of junior year, you felt like you lost the spark you initially had with donghyuck. after spending almost 4 years with him, it’s bound to happen, right or so you thought.
for donghyuck, the more he spent time with you, the more he is certain that you were gonna be his first and last.
“good morning, baby” he kisses your forehead as you enter his car. “hey” you mumbled, not giving him a kiss back. donghyuck frowns at your sudden change of behavior. you thought he’d never notice such change but in this case, he did. he does, he always notices every little thing about you.
“i’ll be going on a trip with my family” donghyuck starts, looking at you as he drives the both of you to school. “and?” you reply, scrolling through your phone. “i’m just saying i’ll be gone for a week..” hyuck finishes quietly, pulling up in the school’s parking lot. “that’s great i guess, hope you have fun” you tell him nonchalantly, closing the door before he could even reply.
and just like what donghyuck said, he was indeed gone for the week. with this, you have enough time to look back and decide if it’s worth staying with donghyuck.
you were currently in calculus, growing bored as time passes by. luckily, you sat next to jeno, who was the top student in calculus. “hey jeno” you whispered, trying to catch his attention. “hmm?” he hums, not taking his eyes off the whiteboard.
“can you help me with this? it’s hard” you pout making jeno chuckle. “y/n that’s literally our first topic” he grabs your notebook and starts skimming through them. “and you didn’t even take notes!” he points out making you red from embarrassment.
“but sure, i’ll help you” jeno flashes his infamous eye smile making your heart flutter. “thanks jen, you’re the best” you smile back, feeling giddy all of a sudden.
for the rest of the class, you got to know more about jeno and you even offered if he wanted to have lunch with you. completely forgetting about your boyfriend whatsoever.
as the days pass, you and jeno became closer and closer. currently, you were hanging out with him in a cat cafe. despite him being allergic to cats. “so tell me,” he starts, petting the cats nearby. “when did you and hyuck start dating?”
and almost instantly, all your memories of being together with hyuck flashed before your eyes. ‘did i seriously forget about my own boyfriend’ you thought to yourself. jeno notices you spaced out and snaps his fingers in front of your face.
“hello? earth to y/n?” he waves a hand over your face. “you know what, let’s talk about another thing” you faked a smile making jeno a bit confused. “okay”
later that day, you and jeno head over to the amusement park for a bit just to get your mind off things. “you seriously haven’t been to lotte world?!” he reacts. you slowly nod your head and smiled sheepishly. “well, i’m gonna have to show you around then” he proudly states before grabbing your hand and dragging you everywhere.
that was the first time you had fun in months. you stared at your hands that was intertwined with jeno’s making you blush a bit. you were about to lean your head against his shoulders before it hits you, you already have a boyfriend.
you instantly let go of jeno’s hand and felt tears brimming in your eyes. “jen can you take me home” you asked, not daring to look at him in the eye. “what? we were just about to get in the ferris wheel” he pouts. “take me home, please” you plead, finally looked at him in the eye. jeno notices your red eyes and gets the idea.
“i had so much fun today!” jeno laughs as you hold the corndog he’s been eating the entire trip back home. “i know, thank you for that” you blushed, wiping the mayo off the side of his lips. “you got something there” you giggled. jeno shows his infamous smile for what seems like the nth time today. “we’re here!” you tell him as you see your house in the distance.
“thanks again jeno, i’ll see you on monday” you kissed his cheek making him freeze. the realization hits you a second later. “fuck” you cursed, feeling nervous all of a sudden. “jen..” you say slowly. “i know, i’m sorry too” he says quietly. “we shouldn’t tell anyone” you tell him to which he reluctantly agrees doing. “i’m really sorry, please don’t tell hyuck” you plead one last time before leaving his car. “i won’t don’t worry” was the last thing you heard before you closed his door and he sped off.
after jeno drops you off at your house, you notice a familiar car sitting in your driveway. you went near it and found donghyuck sitting inside, blankly staring at his dashboard. hyuck notices your presence and unlocks the car for you to get in.
“so, how was your date?” he asks like it’s nothing. you felt your heart drop to your stomach. ‘he knows?’ you thought to yourself. you opened your mouth to say something but hyuck beat you to it. “you think i didn’t know about your whereabouts with jeno? i’m not stupid as you think i am y/n” hyuck says seriously, showing you his phone filled with text messages from your classmates.
“i-i can explain” you stammered, trying to defend yourself. donghyuck chuckles lowly, “save it. i don’t think i can take it listening to you right now” his voice cracks at the end of his sentence making your heart shatter into pieces. a tear rolls down his cheek.
“please, i swear it’s not what it looks like!” you cried out. donghyuck scoffs, “do you really think you can fool me? i’ve known you for almost 4 years. i know when something’s up with you and the fact you had the guts to do this to me after everything we’ve been through?” he yells out in frustration, hitting the steering wheel in the process.
“after everything i’ve done for you, you do me like this” he finally cries, making you speechless. you’ve never seen haechan cry like this.
“did you ever think of the consequences of your actions? seeing how happy you looked with him rather than me, your own fucking boyfriend? did you ever think about how i will feel about this if i see it? do you even think about me at all?” haechan rants, letting his emotions get the best of him.
“why am i even telling you this, look at you, you don’t even care” he chuckles again, avoiding your gaze. you wiped the tears falling from your cheek, “i do. i do fucking care” you sniffled. haechan turns his head to you and shakes his head, “you don’t anymore” he smiles sadly.
“oh yeah, i forgot i got you this” haechan chucks a fancy box onto your lap. you shakily grab and opened the box to reveal a necklace with his initials making you cry even more. “i got your initials to match with mine but i think it’s different now” he croaks. you shake your head no and tried to hold his hand but he swatted it away.
“don’t touch me” he says, “please” he wipes his tears. “hyuck please, i’m sorry! i swear it’s not what it looks like” you sobbed onto your hands. “you know, it hurts me seeing you cry like this” donghyuck stares at your shaking figure. “but after what you did to me, i’m not really sure anymore”
it grows quiet inside his car, just the sound of your sniffles can be heard. “i need some time to think about this— about us” donghyuck starts. “you’ll know when i’ve made up my mind” he finishes. you hiccuped, “please don’t leave me” making hyuck’s heart hurt even more. “i’m not too sure about that” he looks down.
you took this as a sign for you to get out of his car and out of his life as well. without saying another word, you stepped out of his car and silently closed the door. “i’m sorry” you murmured to yourself before stepping inside your house.
donghyuck stares at your back the entire time you went inside your house. hyuck starts his engine and leaves your driveway. “guess she never really loved me the way i loved her” he laughs to himself, ripping the dangling locket he had on his rear view mirror, speeding off to who knows where to clear his head and to fix his broken heart.

September 8
Caroline,
Another Friday night at the Pratt farm. Chris and Emily have steadily gone out every Friday night since the school year began. While it’s absolute torture to know that their relationship seems to have been re-kindled in a strong way, I’m extremely grateful for the time with Layla. I can’t even begin to explain to you how much I’ve missed that little girl up until these Friday nights. She’s been asking for another dress lately, and the weather will be colder soon enough, so we’re going to shop tonight for some cute flannel prints, for dresses and pajamas.
I know we haven’t been able to catch each other by phone, and we probably will by the time you get this letter, but I’m so proud of you for deciding to go for what you deserve, C. You and Chris are going to be the powerhouse of this country, I can feel it. He has my vote, and not because you’re my best friend … well, not ONLY because you’re my best friend. He’s a smart guy, and I think he is going to do well. Not to mention, he’s going to have the BEST Chief of Staff in American history.
I’ll talk to you soon – just realized I’m late leaving for the farm!
Yours truly,
Sadie
Rushing up the steps of the Pratt house, Sadie nearly tripped in an effort to get to the doorbell quickly. She apologized profusely to Chris for running late when he met her at the door.
“Honestly, I just lost track of the time,” she admitted.
“It’s all right,” he assured, a smile tugging at either end of his mouth. “Emily’s not quite ready yet, anyway.”
“Oh, good,” Sadie replied, breathing a sigh of relief.
Chris nodded. “Layla’s in her room playing – she’s in a mood, I’ll warn you. Her homework is done, but she’s probably hungry.”
“We’ll get something in town, if that’s okay. I told her I would take her to look at flannel prints for dresses and pajamas for cold weather.”
“Yeah, that’s fine. Still have the extra seat in your car?”
“I do.”
“Perfect.”
An awkward silence fell between them as they stood in the entryway. There was so much more they both had to say, but Chris was caught between a rock and a hard place, and Sadie couldn’t put her heart on the line again. Finally, when the tension came to be too much, she excused herself to go find Layla.
“You guys have fun and, uh, we’ll see you later.”
Chris gave a small wave, doing away with the disappointed look on his face as Emily met him at the door. Sadie told herself it hadn’t been disappointment, she was only seeing things; she pleaded with herself not to read more than was there into every little thing Chris did and said around her.
“Hey, Miss Layla,” she greeted, hoping that her voice didn’t sound as shaky as it felt.
Layla looked up from playing with her dolls. “Adie! I didn’t know you were here!”
The little girl’s hug was a welcome reprieve from her confusion. “Just got here, sunshine. Do you want to play some more, or are you ready for supper and the fabric store?”
“I’m ready to leave,” Layla confirmed, putting her dolls away neatly before finding her shoes.
Sadie was glad that Layla was in a good mood for her, but it made her wonder what Chris meant when he had implied a bad mood. She decided they would go for fabric first, then they would pick up a fast-food dinner and talk about things on the way home.
The opportunity came a couple of hours later, with three bags full of fabric and supplies in the trunk, and the fast food bag on the front passenger seat. Sadie looked to the back to see Layla staring out the window, mindlessly kicking her leg against her booster seat.
“So, when I got to your house tonight, your daddy said you were in a bad mood,” Sadie mentioned.
Layla’s leg stopped kicking. “He did?”
Sadie nodded. “Anything you want to talk about?”
Layla sighed. “He probably thinks I’m grumpy gills because I yelled at Mommy.”
“Why did you yell at Mommy?”
“‘Cause I was mad. She never does anything fun with me, she just yells at me. I wish she never came back! I miss you, Adie.”
“I miss you too, but we both have to do our best to help Mommy adjust to coming back, okay? We have to be patient with her. And at least we have our Friday nights, right?”
Layla nodded but didn’t say anything else. Sadie pursed her lips together as she pulled back into the driveway. She couldn’t begin to fathom what confusion Layla was experiencing, and she couldn’t find the right words to comfort her.
After supper and a bath, Layla’s good mood seemed to return. She sat on the floor of the living room playing with her dolls again, while Sadie pinned the flannel to the appropriate patterns. Chris and Emily would likely be home anytime, but Sadie wasn’t worried about getting Layla to bed; it was Friday night, and Saturday mornings were for sleeping late.
Music played lightly around them from the iPod station, and both of them sang along when they knew the words. A familiar tune started to play, and Layla’s eyes lit up.
“I know this song! It’s the one you’re always humming!” she exclaimed.
Sadie smiled, gathering up the pinned pieces and putting them in a bag to sew at home. “You’re right, it is. One of my favorites to dance to, too.”
When Chris and Emily came through the door, Layla was in Sadie’s arms, and the two of them were twirling about the kitchen, dancing to that song Sadie had always been humming. Layla scrambled back down to the ground, took Chris by the hand, and pulled him into the kitchen.
“Daddy! It’s Adie’s favorite song, the one she always hums! Dance with her!”
Chris and Sadie stood there staring at each other, both slack-jawed and trying to figure out a way to hand the situation. Emily was not far behind Chris, a definite scowl crumpling her sharp features.
“Um, you know what, it’s supposed to rain tonight, and I’d like to get home before it does,” Sadie finally said.
“Yeah, looked pretty cloudy coming up the drive,” Chris said before clearing his throat.
Sadie gathered her keys and her bag of fabric and made a quick exit out of the house and into her car. It was indeed raining by the time she got home, but that didn’t matter; she trudged into her house slowly, wishing that, somehow, the rain would wash away every feeling and every memory she had for and of Chris Pratt.
Tumblr media
With a beer bottle in one hand and her phone in the other, Sadie plopped onto her couch and dialed Caroline’s number. She was in her pajamas and would be finding a sappy chick flick to drown her sorrows in soon enough, but she needed a quick call with her best friend first.
“Hey, C. You busy?”
“Nope, not in the slightest,” Caroline replied. “What’s up? Everything okay?”
Sadie sighed and took a long drag from her beer. “Yes. No. I don’t know. Why can’t I get over Chris?” She explained what had happened before she left the Pratt farm, about the awkward greeting when she had arrived, and about all the crying she was still doing over the man.
Caroline sighed. “You can’t get over him because you’re in love with him. It’s not like you just had a crush. That’s going to make it that much harder to get over him. Believe me, I know.”
“How did you know that it was time to do this thing with Evans?”
“I was tired of fighting against my heart. I knew I was only staying with Charlie because of convenience, and I knew Chris had my heart. There was no sense in trying to hide from it anymore. The fact that he showed up at my door and confessed how he felt just made it that much easier.”
Sadie let out a deep breath. “I don’t wanna screw up Layla’s life, either. I don’t want to deal with Emily and Libby and their bitchy, manipulative asses.”
“Emily and Libby are just a minor inconvenience,” Caroline stated. “If what you have with Pratt is the real deal, which I think it is, then their opinions won’t matter. And you know you won’t be screwing up Layla’s life. She adores you.”
Sadie sighed, opened her mouth to say something else, but was interrupted by the knock on the door. “Just a sec.”
When she opened the door, shock was the only way to describe how she felt at seeing Chris standing there in the rain on her doorstep.
“Caroline, I gotta go. He’s – he’s here.”
“I knew he’d come to his senses! Call me later! Good luck!”
Sadie disconnected the call, not certain at all that Chris had shown up because of the reasons Caroline presumed. She motioned for him to come in the house, though she couldn’t help but feel a little irritated.
“Don’t just stand out there in the rain,” Sadie sighed. “You need a towel.”
“I’m okay.”
“You’re dripping.” She went to the hallway closet, then back out to the living room. “Why are you here?”
Chris wiped the towel over his hair and face, then dropped it on the coffee table. “I had to talk to you.”
Sadie crossed her arms. “I told you, Chris, I can’t be the person you talk to about this. Maybe you should try talk to your wife.”
“My ex-wife,” Chris reminded her, “and I have been talking to her. Every Friday night for weeks. I’ve never told you where Emily and I were at when you were with Layla because I didn’t know how it was going to turn out. I didn’t know how you’d feel about it – I’ve hurt you enough, Sadie. I told you I loved you and then I pulled the rug out from under you.”
“You still haven’t told me anything,” Sadie whispered. She was afraid that if she spoke any louder, her voice would break.
Chris ran his hand through his wet hair. “You’re right. Sorry. We’ve been going to counseling. Emily said she wanted things to be better, and I wanted to give it a shot for Layla – same reason I know you walked away. When you told me that Emily only wanted me back because she didn’t want anyone else to have me, I brought it to counseling. It took time, I’ll admit, but when I saw how she was with Layla as time passed, and I knew you were right. Last week, I asked her about why she came back, and she couldn’t answer me.” He scoffed. “Just the same way I couldn’t answer you, I guess. Funny how people can say so much with no words, huh? Anyway, tonight, we didn’t go to counseling. We went to a lawyer and drew up custody papers. The divorce stands, obviously, but Emily is giving up her rights to Layla.”
Sadie, arms still crossed, leaned against the counter. “Have you told Layla?”
“Emily’s talking to her now.”
“Wow,” Sadie said, raising her brow, “taking some responsibility. Never thought I’d see the day.” She let out a breath. “I’m sorry, that’s probably not fair.”
Chris shook his head and stood in front of her. “No, you’re right. Emily is taking responsibility for her actions, and I’m here taking responsibility for mine. I’m in love with you. I have been for a long time – longer than I’ve even known. I told you once that I had learned things from you this summer, and I didn’t get to answer you when you asked me what that was. You taught me that there are still good women in the world … women who care about family and love and important things in life other than themselves. You taught me that there are still people who can change your life, for the better. You taught me that I can love again, and I do. I love you, Sadie. I want to be with you.”
Sadie blinked against the tears welling in her eyes, causing a drop to run down her cheek. “You broke my heart, Chris.”
“I know I did,” he replied, voice low and hoarse. His calloused fingers came up to wipe away her tears. “But I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you, if you let me. Come back to the farm. Be with me. Show Layla what a mom is supposed to be like. Forever.”
Between his thumb and forefinger, Chris held up a ring. Sadie’s tears flowed still, but the purpose changed. She was no longer heartbroken; when Chris said that he wanted to spend forever fixing the mistake he had made, he was serious.
Sadie recognized the ring. Kathleen had shown her pictures before of Chris’s grandparents’ wedding day, and pointed out the blue-stoned ring that Chris’s grandmother had loved so much. Kathleen had refused to let Emily have it, but must have been supportive of Chris’s desire to give the ring to Sadie.
“I made mistakes, too,” Sadie said. “I walked away.”
“Because of what I said – well, what I couldn’t say,” Chris countered. “Let’s start over. Together. Just say the word, Sadie, and I swear, we’ll never be apart again.”
She looked at the ring, up to his blue-green eyes, and then around the room. She hadn’t ever expected him to come back, let alone with a proposal. With the pieces of her heart already coming back together, Sadie went up on tiptoe and whispered the word against his lips.
“Yes.”

When was the last time you let someone know you truly love him/her? Today.
Do you complain when you are bored, or look for something to do? Sometimes, but usually I just still do the things I normally do. Sometimes those things just don’t cut it, though, and I end up lying around watching mindless TV or sleeping. That’s usually when I’m just extra moody or feeling extra sad and down and don’t feel like doing anything.
Do other people’s complaints ever get on your nerves? Yes. If someone is constantly complaining about everything that gets real annoying real fast. I try not to complain a lot. I keep a lot to myself or save it for a survey, ha.
Generally, what is your favorite ride at an amusement park? I used to like the water rides, you know like the Splash Mountain type rides or the ones that are like white water rafting. I like the swing ride, too. I’m not into the water rides anymore, though. That doesn’t leave much for me at most amusement parks. I love Disneyland because there’s so many rides and I can enjoy a lot of them. There’s so much for me to do.

Like while on vacation or deciding on what to do, I’m a go with the flow kind of person and just go along for the ride so to speak. However, I’m a moody person that gets irritable, frustrated, and overwhelmed. My family wouldn’t say I’m easy going ha.
Other than gas, what do you frequently purchase at a gas station? I don’t purchase gas cause I don’t drive, but I like getting coffee or a Starbucks Doubleshot energy drink sometimes.
What is one concern you have about the present state of the world? The corona virus. Even though it’s like the flu, which is also a serious concern every year and we need to take the same precautions. I guess cause it’s like the newest thing and it’s being talked about constantly, so it’s become a big issue.

If you are homosexual, and you find out your bf/gf is straight, then what?
Have you ever sung karaoke? What songs? Was it fun? Yeah, just for fun with friends at one of our houses. I’ve never done it in public. There’s no way in hell.
Do you study for big tests? I studied for every test.
What makes you nervous? A lot of things. Ha, that reminds me of the cute shirt I got at Disneyland with Rex from Toy Story on it that says, “I’m a nervous rex.”
Have you called anyone today? What did you talk about? No.
When was the last time you went bowling? Yearssss ago.
Do you drive around the neighborhood to look at lights around Xmas? Aww, we used to do that every year when I was a kid. We drove all over town.

What holiday is a big deal for you? Christmas.
What is one tradition you hate participating in? I like the ones my family and I have.
Have you ever been sledding? No.
Do you have acne? I get a couple pimples now and then. I had it worse in high school and my early 20s.

Is there someone you wish you could talk to, but you’re too afraid? Not anyone currently.
Do you have a favorite cookie? Sugar.
When was the last time you did something for someone else? I helped my dad with something.

Have you ever been convinced to try something you didn’t want to do? Yes.

Do you play any online computer games? If so, what? Nope.
What food can you not seem to get enough of? Wingstop’s boneless garlic parm and lemon pepper wings.
When you are mad at someone, how do you show them? I become distant. If we interact and talk, I’m very short.

When was the last time you felt you had a reality check? Hmm.
Have you ever felt out of touch with reality? Yes.
Have you ever been sick to the point of possibly dying? No, but it definitely felt that way at times.

What was your favorite school project? Hmmm. There were a few I enjoyed throughout my school years.
Did you attend any school dances? Yeah, a few.
Were you in any after school clubs? Yes. Was there any teacher that made life living hell for you? No.
How about any student(s)? No.
When was the last time you felt overwhelmed? I feel that way quite often.
Which parent are you more apt to go to if you’re upset? My mom.
Do you have any coffee mugs with funny pictures/sayings? No.
Describe your favorite t-shirt? I have a pretty big collection of graphic tees, all of which are my favorite.
Describe something strange that you own? Uhhh.
What do you like to do on a friday night? I don’t do anything different.
What do you like to do on a sunday night? ^^^^
Are monday’s a drag for you? Most days feel that way.
Do you think graffiti is a valid form of artistic expression? I don’t approve of it when it vandalizes property. If it’s a mural or something like that, then yes.t
Do you ever worry about where the world will be in 20 years? I just take things day by day, man.
Do you know what you want your funeral to be like? Well, this took a turn.
How often do you think dirty thoughts? Not often, honestly.
Can mere images turn you on? How about words? Photos, sure. And I guess words, too, in the sense that I’ve read books with sex scenes that were hot haha.
Do you give a good back massage? I’ve never given one.
Do you think that feet are disgusting? Ew yes lol.
When was the last time you screamed? I honestly have no idea.
What is your political affiliation? We’re not getting into that.

If you ditched school, where did you go? I stayed home, ha.
Have you ever been offered drugs? What, and by who? Yeah.
Are you afraid to walk places at night if you are alone? I definitely would be. I never go anywhere alone, though. I certainly wouldn’t at night.
What’s in your school backpack? I don’t have a school backpack, I’m done with school.
Are you put off by overly social people? >> No. I’m easily exhausted by very extroverted, exuberant people, is all. Doesn’t mean I don’t like them as people. <<<<
What do you think of people who are shy? Well, I’m very much one of those people so I can understand.

                                 Lover As Our Ships.
I Forget That You Existed.
Literally Nayoung to everyone in her life before, including mostly SPB, the Nameless and even Kim Yura.
How many days did I spend thinking 'Bout how you did me wrong, wrong, wrong? Lived in the shade you were throwing 'Til all of my sunshine was gone, gone, gone
Also Keun to SPB... Everyone to SPB, that company is trash. But look:
Sent me a clear message Taught me some hard lessons I just forget what they were It's all just a blur
And don’t even get me started on the chorus.
Cruel Summer
At first, I thought, damn, I don’t have any ship for that because it’s about a breakup and stuff... But then it cleared my mind and now I think it’s two at the same time. First, Minhye and Jukan at college times.
Fever dream high in the quiet of the night You know that I caught it (Oh yeah, you're right, I want it) Bad, bad boy, shiny toy with a price You know that I bought it (Oh yeah, you're right, I want it)
[...]
Hang your head low in the glow of the vending machine I'm not buying (Oh yeah, you're right, I want it) You say that we'll just screw it up in these trying times We're not trying (Oh yeah, you're right, I want it)
But it just doesn’t stop there, it also gave me little hints of Anna and Kuen.
I'm drunk in the back of the car And I cried like a baby coming home from the bar (Oh) Said I'm fine, but it wasn't true I don't wanna keep secrets just to keep you
[...]
And I screamed for whatever it's worth "I love you, " ain't that the worst thing you ever heard?
Lover
We got mixes feelings about this one, it literally could be any ship at some specific moment, so I really don’t know. However, I still keep my word that Hana and Mark were the first one that came to my mind when i listened to this song for the first time, probably because of The Archer and because of the state they are in right now that makes it easy for me to see Hana listening to this one right now and thing “Have I known you 20 seconds or 20 years?” and “All's well that ends well to end up with you”. Anyways, it also reminds me of Nayoung and Keun because of tHE MAGNETIC FORCE OF A MAn, and for the same reason, I can imagine Bonghu and Sanchan. And let’s not forget of Julie and Valak, they also marked this song as theirs. Oh my god, it also reminds me of Minhye and Jukan, for christ's sakes.
The Man
Speaking of her, that’s very Minhye. And nAYoung TOO. Actually, Nayoung seems like the type that would pick a lyrics from this song and posts on her stories, she is that kind of person right now. That’s official I even put on yes girl, there is no going back. But just... look:
Would you like to worry about drinkin' and dollars? And getting bitches and models? And it's so good if you're bad And it's okay if you're mad If I was out flashing my dollars I'd be a bitch, not a baller They'd paint me out to be bad So, it's okay that I'm mad
The Archer
To all the Hopeless Romantics I did before. I’m serious, this song is every single little bitch that's too hopeless romantic. It started with Hana, then I thought of Haneul, probably Kim Yura too, Anna & Clay.
'Cause cruelty wins in the movies I've got a hundred thrown-out speeches I almost said to you
(JUST LOOK AT ANNA AND KIM YURA RIGHT THERE)
And I cut off my nose just to spite my face Then I hate my reflection for years and years
(HANEULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL)
I wake in the night, I pace like a ghost The room is on fire, invisible smoke And all of my heroes die all alone Help me hold onto you
(CLAY)
I Think He Knows
Speaking of Clay, this song radiates Allen and Clay. But before that, I totally thought about Yehjin and Chang too. So well, probably both.
He got that boyish look that I like in a man I am an architect, I'm drawing up the plans It's like I'm 17, nobody understands No one understands
Seriously? That’s Clay about Allen.
Lyrical smile, indigo eyes, hand on my thigh We could follow the sparks, I'll drive Lyrical smile, indigo eyes, hand on my thigh We could follow the sparks, I'll drive "So where we gonna go?" I whisper in the dark "Where we gonna go?" I think he knows
And this is so Yehjin and Chang, hell yes.
Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince
Chines & Chihye. There is none else for this, I swear because I’ve looked up.
You know I adore you, I'm crazier for you Than I was at 16, lost in a film scene Waving homecoming queens, marching band playing I'm lost in the lights
YES, SHALL WE ALL BE SAD ABOUT THIS?
I'm feeling helpless, the damsels are depressed Boys will be boys then, where are the wise men? Darling, I'm scared (Ah)
Keep listening...
No cameras catch my muffled cries I counted days, I counted miles To see you there, to see you there And now the storm is coming, but
And finally...
It's you and me, that's my whole world They whisper in the hallway, "She's a bad, bad girl" (Okay) The whole school is rolling fake dice You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes [...] We're so sad, we paint the town blue Voted most likely to run away with you
Paper Rings
Oh my god, the first time I listened to this song I was “maybe it’s Bonghu and Sanchan”. bUT reading the lyrics I’m so shocked because it’s Raye and Kaili, and fuck this song is very them... From the instrumental to the lyrics, everything.
The moon is high Like your friends were the night that we first met Went home and tried to stalk you on the internet [...] Now I wake up in the night and watch you breathe
Shut up, this is totally about the beer pong! And then suddenly by the end of the year the fact they are together...
I like shiny things, but I'd marry you with paper rings Uh huh, that's right Darling, you're the one I want, and I hate accidents except when we went from friends to this
Shut UPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Honey, without all the exes, fights, and flaws We wouldn't be standing here so tall, so
Cof cof, that’s for Julie. Costance said, “suck it”.
Also, let’s not forget the part she keeps referring to him as “Baby Boy”.
Cornelia Street
Listen to me, I get the feeling this is Jinhyung and Kyungri. There is no further explanation on how I get to this conclusion, I just felt like it.
We were a fresh page on the desk Filling in the blanks as we go As if the street lights pointed in an arrowhead Leading us home
Hm??
And I hope I never lose you, hope it never ends I'd never walk Cornelia Street again That's the kinda heartbreak time could never mend I'd never walk Cornelia Street again And baby, I get mystified by how this city screams your name And baby, I'm so terrified of if you ever walk away
I had to do a whole specification about this, but can you get the feeling that when they finally realized that they didn’t want to cheat or be with anyone else just because what they had was enough? That’s the feeling. Perhaps it’s also about the fact that they were falling so hard that they just suddenly were like ‘that’s true, i don’t want anyone else besides you and this thought kind of terrifies me a little bit’, you know?!
You hold my hand on the street Walk me back to that apartment Years ago, we were just inside Barefoot in the kitchen Sacred new beginnings That became my religion, listen
Totally talking about they sneaking wndr’s dorm to be together.
Death By A Thousand Cuts
I never had this vision about this breakup until reading this song’s lyrics, but this is probably Seulgi when Hailey and she broke up. Yes, very random, yes, you probably didn’t expect this one but it’s true, let me show you.
Saying goodbye is death by a thousand cuts Flashbacks waking me up I get drunk, but it's not enough ’Cause the morning comes and you're not my baby I look through the windows of this love Even though we boarded them up Chandelier's still flickering here ’Cause I can't pretend it's okay when it's not
Very weird seeing Seulgi demonstrate any type of feeling, she probably felt this because they were together for a significant amount of time and Hailey traveled back to her country to sort her things out so... You can imagine how lonely Seulgi must have felt for a while.
I dress to kill my time, I take the long way home I ask the traffic lights if it'll be alright They say, "I don't know" And what once was ours is no one's now I see you everywhere, the only thing we share Is this small town You said it was a great love, one for the ages But if the story’s over, why am I still writing pages?
Seriously? This is totally Seulgi trying to figure out where to move from aside WNDR and Hailey, although she did figure it out somehow I can see why she was confused and a little upset even though she totally agreed with Hailey that the best thing was to break it off.
Tryna find a part of me that you didn't touch My body, my love, my trust (It's death by a thousand cuts) But it wasn't enough, it wasn't enough, no, no
And with that, I rest my case.
London Boy
This would be Nayoung if it was called “Jeju Boy”, also Linlin would take a ride and sing it too if that was the title. Throwback that this is also Taewoon and Hojin (screams and sobs at the same time). If it was “Canadian Boy”, it could be Clay. Wait is Allen from where? IS HE BRITISH? I Thought hE Was AmeriCAn. And finally, if someone does a cover saying “London Girl”, then it’s definitely Evie and Sunny, or even me for wolfie. Yes. I love this song is so catchy, could be anyone talking about their crush, it’s really cute.
Soon You’ll Get Better
You know what this song it's about, let’s skip the crying.
False God
Haneul & Hyuntae. FUCK THIS SONG I SWEAR, IF IT WAS KOREAN I WOULD SAY HANEUL WROTE IT AND GAVE IT TO TAYLOR. SERIOUSLY JUST LOOK AT THE DESCRIPTION BY GENIUS: ”False God” uses heavy religious imagery to compare Swift’s relationship with current boyfriend Joe Alwyn to something all-powerful and greater than themselves.”
We were crazy to think Crazy to think that this could work Remember how I said I'd die for you? We were stupid to jump In the ocean separating us Remember how I’d fly to you?
Oh, boy, shut up Haneul.
They all warned us about times like this They say the road gets hard and you get lost When you're led by blind faith, blind faith
Also laughing about the part she says: “ You're the West Village”, change it to UN Village and it’s good to go.
You Need To Calm Down
That's us. And also Hailey. And also sweetpea.
Afterglow
Oh, here we go. Okay, this song is Linlin and Mingyu. I still can’t get over how much this song is them, seriously, I’ll just show the lyrics and let us be sad for the time being.
I blew things out of proportion, now you're blue Put you in jail for something you didn’t do I pinned your hands behind your back, oh Thought I had reason to attack, but no
[...]
Hey, it's all me, in my head I'm the one who burned us down But it's not what I meant Sorry that I hurt you I don't wanna do, I don’t wanna do this to you (Ooh) I don’t wanna lose, I don't wanna lose this with you (Ooh) I need to say, hey, it’s all me, just don't go Meet me in the afterglow
[...]
I lived like an island, punished you with silence Went off like sirens, just crying Why'd I have to break what I love so much? It’s on your face, don't walk away, I need to say
[...]
Tell me that you're still mine Tell me that we'll be just fine Even when I lose my mind I need to say Tell me that it's not my fault Tell me that I'm all you want Even when I break your heart
Yeah, I KNOW.
ME!
I hate that song, next.
I’m kidding, this actually brings me good memories even though it’s kind of insupportable. As for a ship, this is Kim Yura and Abe Chiyo. Eleanor and Zeev!!! And WNDR when they are getting ready in the dorm.
I know that I'm a handful, baby, uh I know I never think before I jump And you're the kind of guy the ladies want (And there's a lot of cool chicks out there)
[...]
I know that I went psycho on the phone I never leave well enough alone And trouble's gonna follow where I go
I underestimated how much of Eleanor and Zeev this is.
I know I tend to make it about me I know you never get just what you see But I will never bore you, baby
YeAH, BoY.
It’s Nice To Have A Friend
Me to You, until I realized this was a romantic song and went all “well’... So, to sum up, as a ship this is straight-up Gok Inna and Pyongho. Just check out the genius description: “ Infused with steel drums, It’s Nice to Have A Friend is a dreamy ballad about two friends meeting in school and ending up getting married. It recalls the similar love story of children growing up together and falling in love.” We don’t even need to read the lyrics after that, I agree.
Daylight
This is another song with different ships to different situations. First, it’s Yohan and Sebin. Jinah and Bokyum. Danbi and Daehyun... Basically, everyone that went through a lot before finding their true love. Again, let’s take a look at the Genius description: “In the final song on her album Lover, Taylor Swift sings about struggling through previous relationships, beginning to doubt her ability to find true love, until she meets someone who brightens her life in a new way. She refers to being unlucky in love in the past, but when she meets her new partner, she only wants to focus on them and their happiness together.” Gotcha?
I don't wanna look at anything else now that I saw you I don't wanna think of anything else now that I thought of you I've been sleeping so long in a 20-year dark night And now I see daylight, I only see daylight
I can only think of Yohan and Sebin finding each other, but you could also see where I thought about there other two here too. Jinah and Bokyum? Totally random but totally meant to be. And Danbi and Daehyun were both like in a love maze thing until they realized how stupid they were since the start.
Luck of the draw only draws the unlucky And so I became the butt of the joke I wounded the good and I trusted the wicked Clearing the air, I breathed in the smoke Maybe you ran with the wolves and refused to settle down Maybe I've stormed out of every single room in this town Threw out our cloaks and our daggers because it's morning now It's brighter now, now
I swear TO GOD, THIS SONG!!!!! What a great way to finish an album and my thread... *heart emoji*

{Masterlist}
Tumblr media
Life was much more simple when you were younger. All you needed was your older brother, Na Jaemin, and your shared best friend, Lee Donghyuck. The three of you did everything together, from going skating in the park, to staying up late on Friday nights. However things took a turn when they both started high school without you. You know that’s the real reason you fell out of touch with both of them, but it’s easier to blame Huang Renjun.
The summer before Hyuck and Jaemin started their freshman year, a new family moved in next door with a son around the same age as you all. When Hyuck would come over, you would all go to Jaemin’s room which had a window looking into the new neighbor’s house. You never cared about the boy sitting at his desk, doing what you assumed to be drawing. Nothing bother you. One day, not too long after the boy had moved in, you caught a cold. Hyuck would make fun of you, because no one gets sick in the middle of summer. Nonetheless, Hyuck and Jaemin would go out by themselves until you got better.
You didn’t think too much of it when you saw your two best friends talking to your neighbor. How were you to know that this boy would eventually ruin your life? Neither Jaemin or Hyuck told you about their meeting with the new boy, nor that they began to hang out with him. Gradually, your brother talking to the neighbor became eating lunch with him, then studying together, and finally to your replacement. You told yourself everything would return to normal during the summer when you’d all be able to see each other, unbothered by the pressures of school. However, when the summer did roll around, you rarely saw Hyuck and Jaemin. It must of been easier to hang out with people their age, you assumed.
It still hurt though. You had been replaced by the neighbor boy, Huang Renjun. He had stolen the two people you cared about the most. Sure he didn’t realize what he was doing, but it didn’t change anything. In the end, he stole what was yours.
You never gained any friends as great as Hyuck and Jaemin. Sure people came and went, but life was never the same without them. You became quite the loner, not that it bothered you. Although, what did hurt was that while you became the loner, Renjun became loved by all. As you grew older your hatred for Renjun snowballed. It went from awkward stares when he would come over, to ignoring him when he spoke, to you both yelling down the hallway at each other over something stupid, like who wanted to strangle Chenle the most.
Fast forward to where you are now, sitting in your kitchen eating a bowl of ice cream and scrolling through baby animal pictures on Pinterest. Your afternoon was peaceful until you heard a loud bang and looked up to see Renjun waving his face in front of you. “Kid, have you seen your brother?!” he asked. You shrugged your shoulders, “Depends.”
“Depends on what?” Renjun said. You heard it his impatience in his voice and saw it in the vein that stood out on his neck. “Depends on if you pass me that bag of Goldfish behind you,” you replied without bothering to look up. Sighing, he picked it up and shoved it into your hand, causing you to drop your phone. Rolling your eyes at his childish actions, you replied, “He went out with Jeno.”
“Again?!” Renjun started, “do you know when he’ll be back?” Once again you shrugged, to which Renjun muttered something along the lines of ‘you’re useless,’ and stammered off to his house. You weren’t an idiot, you knew what that was all about. Hyuck, Jaemin, and Renjun were slowly drifting apart. Hyuck began to date a senior named Mark, and Jaemin had his own thing going on with Jeno from his Calculus class. Renjun could hang out with the underclassmen Chenle and Jisung, however they kept to themselves most of the time. Renjun was experiencing what you had gone through yourself, a few years prior.
The next time you saw Renjun was the Friday of the same week, at a party a senior named Yuqi was throwing. You were loitering when you heard arguing from over the music and instantly recognized the angry voices of Hyuck and Renjun. You quickly caught sight of Jaemin in the kitchen and walked over. “Hey, I didn’t know you were here,” he started. Of course he didn’t, you thought. He rarely talked to you nowadays, despite living under the same roof. “Why are they fighting?” you looked around to see Jeno, Mark, and Yukhei also in the room, staring at the two boys screaming as if it was normal. “I don’t know why they are right now, but it began with Renjun accusing Hyuck of using him for something. He’s been stressed out lately,” Jaemin sighed. For a second you pitied Renjun. As much as you hated the boy, you didn’t think he deserved to experience the pain that came with losing your best friends. You pushed that thought to the back of your mind; it was easier to accept that this was his karma. “I’m done, Hyuck. Leave me alone,” Renjun slurred before storming in your direction towards the door. “Wait! Injun!” Jaemin’s state changed to one of shock. “No! You too!” Renjun shoved the boy. “I think he’s going to drive home” Jaemin voice quivered, however his face did not change from its calm expression. You rolled your eyes at your dramatic brother, who was obviously as drunk as the boy who just shoved him.
It was when Jaemin pushed you that you realized the weight of his words, Renjun really was not in the mindset to be driving. Without thinking you ran out of the house towards Renjun’s car and sat in the driver’s seat before he could get to the unlocked car. “What the fuck, y/n?!” he screamed at you. “You’re drunk, and even I don’t hate you enough to let you drink and drive,” you crossed your arms, hating the situation you were in. You’d rather be watching paint dry right now, instead of being in a car alone with Renjun. “And what? You’ll drive? Do you even know how?” he snorted. You rolled your eyes before leaning over to open the passenger door and attempting to push him out. Taking the hint, you both got out of the car and he locked it. “See ya,” he muttered beginning to walk in the direction of your houses. “Wait!” you called out, “you’re gonna make me walk home alone this late?”
“Go home with your brother,” Renjun slurred, not bothering to turn around. You rolled his eyes at his stupidity. He fought with Jaemin about spending too much time with Jeno, and yet he couldn’t piece together that Jaemin didn’t really pay attention to you either. “He’s spending the night at Jeno’s, idiot,” you hissed. The both of you stood there awkwardly for a few moments, weighing how much you hated each other. Maybe, you thought, he was thinking that you’d kill him on the way home. Finally get your revenge. “Whatever, let’s go,” he muttered and you both began to walk in silence.
There was a great distance between you and Renjun as you continued your short walk until he finally said, “My life is really shit.”
You wanted to carry on with the awkward silence between the two of you. It was easier than speaking which could turn into an argument and another reason to hate Huang Renjun. But you obviously couldn’t ignore a remark like that, “What do you mean?”
He started to laugh. Not his normal laugh which reminded you of misery every time you heard it. His laugh mimicked one of a depressed drunk man. “All of my friends are in relationships. Not only don’t they have time for me, but I’m always fighting with them when I do see them. To make things even better, I’m spending my Friday night drunk, lonely, bitter, and worst of all, with you.”
You tried your best not to get mad at his insensitive remark and sighed, “Left on read.”
“Excuse me?” he bellowed. You now felt his eyes piercing into you. “This is a verbal conversation y/n.”
“Yeah dude whatever. I don’t really care,” and you didn’t. It mattered to you if he drove drunk home late at night. It mattered to you that your brother’s heart is probably breaking because he thinks his best friend hates him. But Huang Renjun did not matter to you.
“You’ve always been envious of me! I know what happened y/n. I’m not fucking dense. I know that’s why you hate me, but me hanging out with Jaemin and Hyuck had nothing to do with you. It sure as hell wasn’t a good enough reason for you to start making my life hell!” he stopped walking and began screaming. You tried your best to avoid eye contact, because you knew everything he said was true. You were jealous of him. He took what was yours.
“Is that all?” you sighed, not caring for another word of this conversation.
“That’s it? ‘Is that all?’ Y/n this is why people don’t want to be around you! You never actually respond. You never give your own opinion or tell others how you feel!” he said.
Finally deciding to look him in the eye, you said, “At least I’ve accepted my fate.” With that you presumed your walk home with him a little behind you, never matching your pace or walking next to you. A loud silence filled the air between you two, as if for the first time you both actually understood each other’s pain.
The weeks after the party your relationship with Renjun intensified. In the hallways you’d both scream extra loud at each other creating multiple scenes for your peers to watch. In the classes you shared with each other, you would trip the other. Late at night, when your parents when to work their night shifts at the hospital and Jaemin was at Jeno’s house, Renjun would blare music from his speakers to prevent you from sleeping or studying. However, on a random Thursday, right before dismissal you and Renjun engaged in another one of your infamous arguments, landing you both in front of the principal’s office waiting to be scolded. Much like your walk home the night from the party, Renjun was the one to break the silence. “This is all your fault, you know.”
You scoffed at his immature words, “How is this my fault?”
“You’re the one who tripped me during Bio,” he shrugged. You rolled your eyes not caring for a conversation. If you were being honest, the walk home that night had damaged you in ways your didn’t know possible. It didn’t take you a while to understand that Huang Renjun had broken your heart without you even giving it to him.
With the passing days he noticed his passion for art, how hardworking he was, how dedicated he was to keeping his friends, and how kind he was to strangers. Not to mention he wasn’t that bad to look at.
However you understood that those thoughts would only hurt you. You can’t love someone who hates you. Who picks fights with you and blames you for all the misery in their life. Renjun was toxic to you, but your heart didn’t care. So, you continued to suffer.
“You’re not going to respond?” his foot tapping on the tiled floor became louder in your head, like a thumping sound.
“What do you want me to say? Sorry? Sorry.” You couldn’t take any of this anymore. You didn’t want to talk to him. You didn’t want to be around him. You hated him and he hated you, but you went and complicated things.
“Y/n! I want you to talk to me!” he sounded childish, speaking in the same tone a kid uses to get his mother to buy him candy.
“Why? Why can’t you just leave me alone?” you could feel water beginning to rest on the bottoms of your eyes. You refused to cry. You would not cry. Not now.
“Because you’re all I have,” Renjun said with his demeanor becoming softer. You turned to see him with a defeated look in his eyes. Nothing broke your heart more than seeing him in such vulnerable states.
“What?” you weren’t sure if the question left your mouth. It was so quiet, you couldn’t hear yourself.
“Everyone’s left me. Jaemin never returns my texts and Hyuck is always too busy to hang out. I haven’t seen my parents in so long because they’re always preoccupied with work or date night or some other activity that doesn’t involve me. Believe it or not, but you’re the only person who talked to me today,” his words were not ones you thought he would ever say. He was broken to the point of confessing his sorrows to his mortal enemy. He wasn’t done, “I don’t hate you y/n. I want you to know that everything I did and said was always to get your attention. I’m always invisible to people. Most of the kids in my grade know me as either Hyuck or Jaemin’s friend and it hurts. At least I know that to you I’m Renjun. You know who I am. You know what makes me tick and how to get on my nerves. Sometimes I think about how much I know about you and wonder why we only fight. I know you don’t hate me too. If you genuinely, truly, with all your heart, hated me as much as you say you do, you wouldn’t have followed me out of Yuqi’s house that night I was going to drive home. You still care, and I want you to know that I still care.”
You heard your breathing become heavier. Whatever you expected him to say at the beginning of the conversation was not what you just heard. After a while you spoke, “What do you mean ‘still care?’ You don’t care about me! You treat me like you think I waste your oxygen! So don’t tell me you care about me when you’re horrible to me!”
“Didn’t you hear? You wouldn’t notice me if I was nice. You only push people away and when they leave you blame them. Of course I care about you. I’ve never let anyone say anything bad about you, what you wear, how you act, the fact that you sit alone at lunch sending glares at people! I’m exhausted! It’s too difficult to keep pretending. I don’t hate you! I hate that you don’t want to like me, because I’ve liked you for so long and you make it so hard for me to live! Now everyone has someone and I’m stuck screaming at the one person who remembers who I am,” he said.
You don’t know if it was denying your feelings over the course of this week or if maybe all your emotions felt like going haywire all at once, but you looked at Renjun and asked him, “Can I kiss you?” Without hesitation Renjun leaped at you and planted his lips onto yours. It wasn’t a gentle kiss. His hands held onto your face as if he thought you’d leave if he didn’t hold on, and his kiss was intense and sloppy. Nonetheless, it made your heart skip and sent chills down your spine. It’s been a while since you were genuinely happy.
When you both finally pulled away, Renjun took your hands in his and leaned in to make sure you were looking at him in the eye. “Will you please be mine?” His question was ridiculous considering the moment you two had just shared, but you smiled and nodded, giving him an enthusiastic yes before kissing him again.

chapter 58- the end
Later that night, after I had given gifts to and received gifts from all of my friends, I faced the real challenge that I have had since as long as I could remember: going to bed on Christmas Eve. It was absolutely the most childish thing, but something about Christmas has always just made me happy and excited. Eventually, around eleven o’clock, I am finally able to fall asleep peacefully on a cold, snowy, quiet Christmas Eve night.
My excitement had apparently causes exhaustion, though, because now as I sit up in my bed on Christmas I realize that it’s already ten in the morning. The second I gather my thoughts and realize that it’s Christmas, I don’t even bother changing out of my pajamas before rushing downstairs.
I find mother and father at the breakfast table in the kitchen, drinking their morning coffee. “Merry Christmas, Ronnie.” Mother smiles as she notices me practically run into the room.
“Merry Christmas.” I smile back, spinning around on my toes.
“I guess we can go ahead and start opening presents.” Father laughs as he stands up from his chair and walks over into the living room with me, mother following close behind us. By the end of the day I was left with much more clothes, jewelry, perfume, and makeup than when I started the day. It was hands down my favorite Christmas so far, but I’ve found myself saying that about every Christmas for the past few years.
***
Now that Christmas has passed, winter break is beginning to feel much more sluggish. I’ve already finished all of my assignments for the break, but it’s too cold to go out and do most things that I would normally do. The girls would probably want to go ice skating if I asked, but afterwards that would make me even more sluggish.
Suddenly, the solution to my problems arrives through the ringing of my phone. “Hello?” I ask as I raise my phone up to my ear.
“Hi, Veronica. It’s J.D., how are you?” I hear a voice respond on the other line.
“Well, I’m doing quite good now that you’ve called. It’s been awfully boring in the Sawyer house recently.” I complain to him.
“It’s been awfully boring here today, too. Why don’t you see if you can come over in a little while, maybe around four o’clock?” J.D. suggests and I feel myself begin to smile.
“That sounds absolutely amazing. I’ll go ask and then call you right back, bye.” I respond before hanging up the phone and going downstairs to hunt for mother, which takes slightly longer than usual because she isn’t in her usual lounging area of the living room, but instead outside on the porch. “Mother,” I start up, causing her to lift her head from the magazine she had indulged herself in. “Could I go over to J.D.’s house later today?”
“Sure, do you know what time?” She answers with a question, a small smile forming on her lips.
“He said four.” I respond. Mother nods and goes back to her magazine, a sign that I was excused. I rush back upstairs to call J.D. back and let him know that I could come over. After doing so, I check my clock and see that it was already 3:40, so I decide to go ahead and get ready. I put on proper clothes and fix my hair, as well as put on jewelry, which included the necklace J.D. had given me for Christmas, since I had already deemed it to be a part of the jewelry that I wear almost everyday.
I travel back downstairs and J.D. arrives very soon afterwards. We just say our simple hellos and wait to hold actual conversations until we get to his house. “I do have a little surprise for you today.” J.D. starts up conversation as we walk into his living room.
“And what would that be?” I ask nervously, although his tone suggested that this was a good surprise.
“I got accepted into Ohio State.”
“J.D., that’s amazing!” I smile as I hug him. Seeing how happy he was about the subject made me happy too, but once I thought about it more I began to have very mixed feelings. He would be able to live on his own and have more control over his life, as well as get away from his father which is amazing, but he would also be away from me for a year.
“What is it?” J.D. asks as he pulls away from me, probably noticing my change in facial expression.
“Oh, nothing. It’s just- you’re going to be gone for a whole year.” I remind him.
“It’s not like I won’t visit on weekends or anything.” He laughs, lifting my spirits slightly. “Besides, I won’t be leaving for, what, another year and a half? We don’t have anything to worry about just yet.”
His words do help out a decent bit as I realize that we’ve only been together for about three months and we have a whole year and a half before he leaves. “You’re right. So, what are we doing today? Because my vote is on movie night.” I smile, attempting to forget about him moving.
“Well then, I guess we’re having a movie night.” J.D. smiles back before leading me into the kitchen. We get the usual snacks of sodas and popcorn before heading over to the couch where J.D. takes on the job of finding us movies to watch. “Just our luck, this channel just started playing Creature from the Black Lagoon no more than five minutes ago.” J.D. comments before coming to sit down by on the couch. We had pretty much gotten to the point where we didn’t have to ask the other if they like a certain movie. We had a decent understanding of each other’s taste; that taste being pretty much any sci fi movie.
“So, do you have any plans coming up soon?” I ask J.D., striking up a conversation amid the movie.
“Other than preparing for the return of school, not really. What about you?”
“Heather McNamara wants me to sleep over on Friday, so that’s where I’ll be spending my night.” I sigh with a light smile.
“Now that is the one that you are actually friends with, correct?” J.D. asks me. We don’t really talk about each Heather individually, I tend to refer to them as a whole, so his confusion was justified.
“Yes. Then there’s Heather Chandler who is the leader, also the one who threatened to kick me out a few weeks back, and then there’s Heather Duke, but I never really talk to her, at least I haven’t really since that one trip to the drive in. Oh, yeah, she was the one who invited me to that. I don’t hold it against her or anything, we just lead very different lives.” I explain to J.D.. Similar conversation is held throughout the rest of the evening: our social lives, our school lives, and our home lives. And for that one shimmering moment, all was well.

Have you _____ during this pandemic?
Worn a mask? I mean, of course. I put one on even when I’m only picking up deliveries from my doorstep.
got tested for coronavirus? Never. I also hope I’ll never have to go through this, I don’t want a stick up my nose and throat D:
known someone who died from the virus? Personally? Too many people at this point.
gotten the COVID vaccine? Not yet, but I have many relatives who’ve already gotten theirs, my mom and grandmother included, so at least. I know my employer has a plan in place over the next few weeks or months, so I’m just currently waiting for updates on their end.
started a new hobby? Yeah, I started on embroidery late last year. I haven’t been able to keep it up, but I’m still very much interested and want to go back to it soon. I also plan on getting one or two new Klaypel kits so I can finally replace and throw out the ones Gabie gave to me as gifts.
hated being stuck at home? Yeah, especially during the start when there seemed to be no end in sight. When they heightened quarantine protocols again earlier this month, that also made me feel aggravated about being stuck at home indefinitely since I had already started going out on weekends for self-dates.
worn a mask someone made for you? No one has made a mask for me, but one of my uncles got me a supply of a certain kind of face mask that I didn’t initially use.
sewn your own mask? No.
purchased masks at the store? Not me personally, but my dad regularly buys a supply for the family to use.
purchased a KN95 or N95 mask? Again, not me. But we regularly have a stock at home, along with the blue surgical face masks.
complimented someone on their mask? I don’t think so. I barely pay attention especially towards mask designs.
protested mask-wearing? ????? My name’s not Karen.
complained on Facebook? Nothing mask-related, but I have definitely complained about the government’s negligence and lack of proactivity about this entire situation.
read a book? I started on Midnight Sun which my parents got for me, but I never finished it. I got busy immediately the week after since I got accepted into my internship, and it was also because I was dealing with my breakup and could not focus enough to read for more than 5 minutes.
had an event canceled you had been looking forward to? My college graduation, which I’ll forever stay bitter about.
stocked up on toilet paper? I don’t think so. My parents didn’t believe in panic-buying.
been to the store when it was crowded? I do remember the mall being packed when I went last-minute Christmas shopping. Not to a crazy extent, but there was still quite a number of people.
been to the store when the toilet paper aisle was empty? N/A. We don’t have toilet paper aisles, but all stores have hand sanitizers and temperature checks by their entrance.
lost your job? I didn’t have a job before the pandemic because I had still been a student when everything started.
worked from home? Yup, and still on an WFH arrangement until now.
still had to go to work? I’ve had to go two times, but that was because it was absolutely necessary to go to the office to get the work done. My employer is pretty strict about this anyway and if something could be done at home, they’d decline the request.
went to a protest at your state's capital building? Well we don’t have states so this isn’t really relevant to me. Should a credible org plan a protest against the government though, I’d be interested in going.
watched the news for updates on the virus? We keep the TV on during dinner, at which time the news is always on. Whether I want to or not, I always get updates on the Covid situation in the country.
wondered if you had covid? Yeah, when I got extremely sick in May last year.
not left the house for a week? Way more than a week.
watched YouTube videos? YouTube is pretty much a part of my daily routine, with or without the virus.
spent a whole day watching movies? I’ve only watched one movie since the beginning of the pandemic.
cleaned your house from top to bottom? Not me, but my mom.
ordered something online? Too much crap.
ordered a pizza? I’ve gotten pizza a few times for my family, yeah. I remember ordering from Pizza Hut, Motorino, and most recently, Yellow Cab.
prayed to God?
completely forgotten a holiday that you normally celebrate? Nah, I usually remember when holidays are because that means I get a day off hahaha.
voted in an election? There haven’t been any elections that have taken place since the start of the pandemic.
gotten to know your neighbors? Somewhat. I only say hi to them and greet them a good morning/afternoon when I walk the dogs, but I don’t initiate conversations.
sanitized everything in your home? We always do this, especially when a package arrives for someone in the family.
wrote someone a letter? Started one but never finished because I soon realized it wouldn’t be worth it.
wished this pandemic were over? Don’t we all?
been surprised this pandemic has lasted so long? Yeah, I definitely thought things would be normal by now.
worried about catching the virus? I think the worry exists for everyone. I just wouldn’t say I’ve ever gotten super anxious and panicky about it. I feel pretty resigned at this point and just want everything to be over, so I can finally have the life I was meant to have back.
stayed home because you didn't want to catch the virus? That, and because I was required to stay home to begin with.
been to church? We watch a service on YouTube every Sunday morning.
watched an online church service? ^ Yeah, that’s what I meant haha oops.
been stopped by a police officer? No, but there was one time I was cleaning up Cooper’s tray and there happened to be a village guard cycling by our street, and he just kindly reminded me to put on a mask or shield since I had forgotten to do it.
seen a lot of police cars patrolling the area? No. I would definitely be pissed off if this happened - especially in a residential subdivision - and share a pic on social media to alert everyone about the unnecessary mess that is the police.
had someone cough on you out in public? No. But again, this would also piss me off and I wouldn’t hesitate to confront the asshole who would do something like that.
has someone stand less than six feet away from you while waiting in line? Always. Some people here can still be unbelievably stubborn.
had to use an inhaler? Never needed one.
been to the doctor? Yeah, to have my blood and urine tests examined.
had increased asthma and/or allergy symptoms? I have neither.
felt like you were fighting a virus? Like I said, I got a bad fever sometime last year. Even though I didn’t show any of the common Covid symptoms (e.g. I had wet cough instead of a dry cough), I felt as if I was rotting away lmao. I could barely stand up and I felt like fainting the second I would raise my head.
been diagnosed with the coronavirus? No.
felt lonely? It’s natural.
went somewhere with a friend? Just a couple of times. I went to UPTC with Andi at the start of the year, then back in Feb I went to Perfy’s with several friends, well aware of our ignorance but badly craving for a sense of normalcy for even just a night.
attended an online event? BANG BANG COOOOOOOOOON. Best 8 hours of my life during the pandemic thus far.
had a business in your area close down? Like the people I know who’ve died from the virus, too many.
received a stimulus check? Hasn’t happened.
received food stamps? No, and I don’t think we have that system in place here. The government just lets the hungry go hungrier.
applied for disability? No, not applicable.
applied for food assistance? No, thankfully we haven’t reached this point.
visited a food pantry? ^
had a fever? Just back in May. Hasn’t happened again since.
believed a conspiracy theory about the virus? Cringe, no.
had to take online classes? When the whole world was still at a loss on how to handle a global pandemic, aka early March, I briefly took Zoom sessions for some of my classes. But it proved to be difficult what with many students struggling with internet connections or being stuck somewhere without their school supplies, so my university canceled the sem altogether not long after and gave everyone general passing grades.
ate at a restaurant? I did a few times. I frequented coffee shops rather than restaurants, though.
walked through a drive-thru? I’ve...driven through a drive-thru, but not walk.
had your mask fog up your glasses? Every damn time I get out of the car, hahaha.
had to go to the hospital because of covid? Nope, not for myself or for someone else.
had to go to the hospital for a different reason? For my fever.
used hand sanitizer? At least once a day.
felt encouraged, joyful, or blessed? Now, especially. Things are starting to look up, at least for my own life.

America’s Unending Tragedy
LITTLETON, Colo.—Evan Todd, then a sophomore at Columbine High School, was in the library on the day 19 years ago when Eric Harris appeared in the doorway, wielding a shotgun. Harris fired in his direction. Debris, shrapnel, and buckshot hit Todd’s lower back; he fell to the ground and ducked behind a copy machine. Harris fired several more shots toward Todd’s head, splintering a desk and driving wood chips into Todd’s left eye.
Todd listened for several more minutes as Harris and Dylan Klebold murdered their classmates, taunting them as they screamed. Todd prayed silently: “God, let me live.”
Then Klebold pulled back a chair and found Todd hiding underneath a table.
He put a gun to Todd’s head. "Why shouldn't I kill you?" he asked.
“I've been good to you,” Todd said.
Klebold looked at Harris. “You can kill him if you want,” Klebold told his teenage co-conspirator.
No one knows why—indeed, no one knows the “why” behind such violence—but that’s when Harris and Klebold left the library. Todd got to live.
Thirteen people did not, though. Today, that’s why Todd supports allowing teachers to have guns in schools. Teachers shouldn’t be required to be armed, he says, but if they already have a concealed-weapons permit, and they’re already comfortable using a gun, why not let them have it with them in school, the place they are most of the day, and the place where these attacks happen over and over again?
Today, Todd is a stocky, bearded manager of construction projects, and describes himself as a history buff. He grew up around guns, but after Columbine, he thought hard about whether easy access to them might have been what caused the shooting. No, he decided. “We've always had guns since the beginning of the founding of our country, but what we haven't always had are children murdering children,” he told me over coffee this week. “Something has changed.” Todd believes school shootings are motivated by a fundamental lack of respect for human life.
The way Todd sees it, “liberals like to control others and conservatives like to control themselves.” He glanced around the Starbucks where we were sitting. Statistically, he said, four people there were likely have guns on them. Being near four guns might scare many liberals. Many conservatives, though, would want to be one of the four with a gun.
The gun debate is an odd one because, at some level, everyone agrees on what they want: No more Columbines. No more Parklands. Most people affected by the Columbine massacre can even agree on what definitely didn’t cause it. After the shooting, Columbine developed a reputation as a toxic school where jocks tormented “geeks” like Harris and Klebold. But it’s a stretch to say the shooters were pitiable outcasts, bullied until they snapped. In reality, they were budding little fascists who wore swastikas on their clothes and spewed racial slurs as they gunned down black classmates. Kumbaya circles wouldn’t have fixed that.

But, nearly 20 years later, not even people in Littleton can agree whether the best way to prevent another Columbine is more guns or fewer. Todd’s experience—a 15-year-old whose brush with death-by-gun led him to respect guns more—helps to explain why there have been so few new federal gun restrictions since Columbine.
There have been at least 10 mass school shootings in the years since, which have claimed at least 122 lives. On Saturday, hundreds of thousands of young people will march on Washington to show just how much this disgusts them. They believe they will be the ones to end the most calcified cultural stalemate of our time: that Americans fundamentally do not agree on whether guns are dangerous—or essential.
Todd worries that if more guns are removed from the hands of law-abiding citizens, a tyrannical government could take over—we could see an American Stalin or Mao. “More people would be murdered without the Second Amendment,” he said.
In the nearby town of Centennial, 64-year-old Carol Schuster said that’s one thing that keeps many conservatives from supporting gun control. “They’re afraid of the government,” she told me. She knows because she used to be one.
Schuster and her husband, Bill, own a company that sells big mobile filing cabinets, the kind that doctors use to store their patient records. Like many small-business owners, they long voted Republican.
The Schusters were terrified when Columbine happened, but they didn’t think it would keep happening. Those shooters were freaks, juvenile delinquents. “Another school shooting” hadn’t yet become a thing Americans say almost every month.

Then came the Sandy Hook shooting, in which six- and seven-year-olds were mowed down as they cowered in their elementary-school bathroom. Schuster began to feel like her party wasn’t doing enough. (Just this week, Republican state legislators in Colorado rejected a ban on bump stocks, the devices used by the Las Vegas gunman that allowed his rifles to fire faster.) She attended a meeting of Colorado Ceasefire, a local gun-control group, and she was the only Republican there. “Oh,” she thought. “These Democrats really are nice people.” In 2016, Schuster voted for Hillary Clinton as a single-issue voter on guns.
Today, one portion of her office wall is devoted to photos of her family, another to pictures of dogs, and another to the front pages of newspapers covering all the mass shootings that have taken place since Columbine. “Important things,” she explained.
When she saw the Parkland shooting on TV, she decided she would go to Washington on Saturday to take part in the March for Our Lives. Her sign will read, “Former Republican for sensible gun laws.”
Schuster asked me where I was going next, and I told her I’d be interviewing Patrick Neville, a former Columbine student who survived the massacre and is now a Republican State Representative who supports concealed carry among teachers. Schuster said she had a lot of questions for him.
When I arrived at his office in the Capitol building in Denver, Neville looked red and tired. His press secretary seemed weary, too, from listening to dozens of voicemail messages, many of which wished to inform her that her boss was a “fucking asshole.” A bill Neville introduced, scheduled for a hearing just days after the Parkland shooting, called for allowing concealed-carry permit holders to bring their guns inside schools. “Get your head out of your ass!” one woman’s voice screamed on the answering machine. “Protect these children!” (Todd gets angry messages, too—including from people who tell him they wish he died at Columbine. The Schusters, meanwhile, say they get run off the road for their gun-control bumper stickers.)
Neville wasn’t inside Columbine when the shooting happened. He was just outside the building, skipping class to go smoke with friends. When he realized what was happening, he ran to a nearby house and called his mom. “I’m not going to be able to get to my next class,” he told her.
If Republicans are afraid of government overreach, then on the other side, “there’s an irrational fear of guns,” Neville said. Todd and Neville see guns as “tools” that can be safely used for fun or protection. Like Todd, Neville believes shooters target gun-free zones like schools because they know they won’t meet resistance. Not knowing which teacher might be armed is a “huge tactical advantage,” Neville argued. To protect his three young daughters, he plans to send them to a private high school, where teachers can carry guns.
This was the fourth time Neville sponsored the concealed-carry bill, and it failed like it always does, but he plans to introduce it again. Why? “Never a wrong time to do the right thing,” he said. The morning we spoke, another school shooting had taken place in Maryland.
Littleton, a Denver suburb, in many ways offers a typical middle-American landscape—dotted with drab office parks and Outback Steakhouses. Less typical are the striking, snow-streaked mountains, which loom in the background.
The light-beige Columbine High School building gets threats all the time. It’s the unholiest of holy sites: Several times a day, a security guard told me, random people stop by to take pictures or just to take a morbid look. The guard can’t allow them to do that; he can’t make the kids relive it that often.
Another security guard in the student parking lot kept a wary eye on me. But at 2:45, the glass doors swung open and perfectly normal students burst out of a perfectly normal school, laughing and asking each other about homework assignments. Among them was Kaylee Tyner, a junior who organized Columbine’s student walkout for gun control, which happened earlier this month.

The day I met up with Tyner, she had called a handful of her classmates to her house to make signs for Saturday’s march. Her friends plan to go to the local march in Denver, but Tyner will travel all the way to Washington with her mom. On top of her political advocacy, Tyner is in four AP classes, several clubs, and works as a waitress at a retirement home.
Tyner peeled a sticky note off the window of her Nissan—she’s in a club whose members leave encouraging messages for one another—and drove the four minutes from her school to her house. She put out some snacks and brought up tempera paints from the basement. The other girls trickled in a few minutes later. They huddled around Tyner’s dining-room table and laid out orange, black, and white poster boards. They’re Columbine’s core group of activists, and it’s something they’re surprisingly secure about. Once, a boy said something like “oh, there go the feminists” as they walked by, and one of them, 16-year-old Mikaela Lawrence, said simply, “Chh—yeah!”
The girls might get their news from social-media sites like Twitter, but, they tell me, they’re careful to check it against other sites to be sure it’s not “fake news.” Rachel Hill, a cheery 16-year-old, easily rattled off the gun measures she’d like to see: universal background checks, a ban on bump stocks, higher age limits and longer waiting periods. She painted a sign that read, “I have thought. I have prayed. Nothing changed.”
Kaylee and a few friends work on signs for March for Our Lives on March 21, 2018, in Littleton, Colo.
The day after the Parkland shooting, the halls of Columbine were unusually quiet. Despite all the security, kids at Columbine periodically worry about another shooting happening there. Some of their teachers have panic attacks when the fire alarms go off, the girls said.
“We’re not gonna stop fighting until laws are passed,” said 14-year-old Annie Barrows, laying down her paint brush and hammering her fist into her hand. “There’s blood spilling on the floors of American classrooms.”
Kids who go to Columbine rarely joke about the shooting, but students from other schools sometimes make crass remarks, the girls said. “Going to Columbine, we don’t get to pick the label for our school,” Tyner said. “We’re one of the most infamous schools in America. We’re trying to show people that this affects your community for decades.”
One day in early April 1999, Daniel Mauser, a blond-haired, bespectacled Columbine sophomore, came home and asked his father, Tom Mauser, “Did you know there are loopholes in the Brady bill?”—the national law that requires background checks for gun purchasers. Tom didn’t think much of it. Daniel was on the debate team; he and his conservative classmate, Patrick Neville, would sometimes argue about politics.
Two weeks later, the day of the Columbine shooting, Tom didn’t know whether Daniel was alive or dead for nearly 24 hours. Late that night, authorities called to ask what Daniel had been wearing, or if the Mausers had any dental records. They said the Mausers would hear more in the morning. The following day at noon, the sheriff came along with some grief counselors to tell Tom that Daniel had been shot to death.
The Mausers stayed in the area, but they couldn’t bring themselves to send their surviving daughter to Columbine. Instead, she went to the nearby Arapahoe High School. It, too, had a shooting, after she graduated.
Tom, who worked for the state’s transportation department, took on a second role as a spokesperson for Colorado Ceasefire. He and his son shared a shoe size; he began wearing Daniel’s black-and-gray Vans to testify at hearings. In 2000, he successfully helped push through a measure to close the state’s gun-show loophole. He’s one of the few Columbine parents who speaks out about guns; some others support him but find it too painful to talk about, he says.
Over lunch at Panera Bread, he told me he doesn’t support arming teachers—there’s too much of a risk of crossfire, accidents, or police not knowing who the true “bad guy” is in a hectic shooting situation, he said. And what, are we going to hold first-grade teachers accountable for acting as soldiers would in combat? Many Republicans, he argued, seemingly “cannot acknowledge the danger caused by guns.” (Many Republicans, of course, argue Democrats can’t acknowledge the danger caused by restricting guns.)
One of the most helpful gun measures, he thinks, would be a state- or nation-wide red-flag law, allowing family members or law-enforcement officers to ask a judge to temporarily take away the guns of someone who seems dangerous.
At this point, a woman approached our table to thank Tom for his efforts. “You’re welcome,” he said.
The following day, Tom planned to go for a bike ride in the 70-degree weather, enjoy his retirement a little. But for the moment, he went back to talking about his dead son with yet another reporter. Because Columbine High has a stain, but so does the whole country, and it will endure until there aren’t any more stories like this left to tell. So he tells it.
Like Evan Todd, Daniel Mauser was in the library. Eric Harris insulted him, then fired his rifle and hit Daniel in the hand. Then the mild-mannered Daniel fought back—he pushed a chair at Harris. Harris responded by shooting him in the face.
I sat there speechless as Tom Mauser calmly ate a spoonful of soup. “This is America,” he said.
