"Bro, do you wanna hear about something crazy?"
"I mean sure, go ahead,"
"Alright, so I was just relaxing, scrolling TikTok,"
"Already a bad idea."
"I know, I got beef with that fuckin' algorithm let me tell you. I follow a couple of bodybuilders, post a couple of gym vids and suddenly my For you page is filled with the biggest assholes alive. Anyway, I'm scrolling, and I see this guy, he's doing that whole 'alpha top dog' thing even though he's not that big."
"Okay wait pause, how big is not that big?"
"I don't know, I have more muscle in my arms than he has in his whole body, real gym influencer type."
"Alright, for anyone listening to the pod at home, I should probably just say that this guy could be anywhere from 150-300 pounds from Dale's description of him, okay? He's not good at judging what normal guys look like anymore."
"Yeah, okay, you got me. Anyway, this guy keeps going on about his great advice, so I stick around to hear it. You wanna know what he said? 'Stop Cumming, its killing your natural testosterone' What kind of bullshit is that!?"
"I mean that is a big part of the current fitness world, these guys will say anything to get more followers, and a lot of their followers are so desperate for progress that they'll take whatever advice they're given."
"It's a shame, because he's also wrong! I tried that whole 'No Nut Whatever' and its been the only time in these last 5 years that I've plateaued."
"... Really?"
"Yeah! If I'm not cranking a load out every day I can kiss any potential gains goodbye."
"Wait,"
"Like after my workouts, when I got a huge pump going, I just have to crank one out, like what good workout would it be if I didn't"
"Dale c'mon,"
"And its not like I can just hit up a guy on Grindr and go to town every time I need to, there aren't enough guys on Grindr for that."
"Uggggh dude, we are never getting a sponsor with you talking like this."
"What, so all the straight alpha dudebros can talk about semen retnetion and get a ton of followers, but I get censored for talking about jacking off and getting tons of ass?"
"Yeah, we will."
"Well then, listeners, go subscribe to the patreon so that I can talk about my actual tips for growing, and so that you can help Mark get bigger. I'm telling you, I'm gonna make this boy huge with your help. Audio listeners make sure to check the videos so you can see this boy get huge. Now bro, help me out here. You don't want those Tiktok gymfluencers to win do you? How often are you jerkin off?"
"Oh god I can't believe I'm answering this... A couple of times a week maybe?"
"A week? That's fucking crazy. My average is like 4-5 times a day. More if I'm really feeling horny. If I'm being honest I jerked off a few weeks ago on the pod, like I forgot to before I came here. One of the comments mentioned something about my grunting that episode."
"Jesus christ dude, how do you even manage that?"
"Well, you gotta work up to it. I couldn't do that starting out, but once I started growing I was so horny I had to do something about it. I think that's what these guys don't get. You gotta get those balls working, give them a reason to keep making that sweet testosterone. How are you supposed to do that if you aren't jacking it? Honestly dude, I feel like I gotta prove these guys wrong now."
"What, you're gonna be a cum warrior?"
"Hell yeah man, I'm gonna be fighting the war on jerking it, on the side of jerking it!"

i understand that following lolcows is a morally dubious activity but what is happening to amberlynn reid at the moment is really making me think. i feel like i have nobody to talk to about it in detail so i’m making a post.
very very brief history; amberlynn reid (amber) is an infamous youtuber who has a following because she started to make youtube videos as a weight loss channel in 2013. she weighed about 300 lbs at the start of her channel and went on to gain significant weight (she weighed 572 lbs at her known highest weight and is about 500 now) while starting and stopping countless diets/weight loss challenges/lifestyle changes. she is a lesbian and has had several controversial relationships since the start of her channel. it’s genuinely impossible to recount the actual events in one post so for the sake of this, amber is a bad partner and learns very little from mistakes she’s made in previous relationships. there is a lot of information about her life because she documents it very thoroughly, and people are extremely invested in her life story, so i’m interested in it from a sociological point of view. lolcows and the communities that spring up around them are like bullying case studies, which is what i’m a bit crazy about currently.
amber has been presumably single since july of last year, and her last partner only appeared as a hand and disembodied voice in her vlogs. she unconvincingly faked a new long distance girlfriend starting in february of this year. shortly before what’s going on now, amber made a lot of content suggesting that her ‘valentine’ had cheated on her and they had broken up. these past few weeks she’s been teasing the introduction of a new girlfriend—a woman identified as tommy. relevant context about the community is that amber viewers are eager to have a new ‘side character’ to make her content entertaining again, because the consensus is that she’s been boring since her offscreen girlfriend started being the only other presence in her videos. amber is discussed on… the fruit farms, a community of people who will uncover public information about anyone to build a narrative about them. the excitement from the amber spectators and the inevitability of people investigating any new girlfriend’s identity meant that tommy’s personal identifying information and past escapades were revealed only days after amber first officially posted her face on her tiktok.
piecing together clues based on tommy’s tattoos and social media accounts, posters identified her as a woman who was a part of feeder fetish communities. that on its own was surprising, but it gets a bit sinister from this point. tommy ran a couples’ account in one of those communities with a woman who was about 1,000 lbs and passed away due to obesity related complications in april of this year, about three months ago. tommy and amber have been talking since june of this year. another woman who posts social media content focusing on her weight (i don’t know/care about her specific weight but she is similar to amber) revealed that tommy had been sending flirtatious messages with her even before then. i don’t think that tommy wanted her partner to pass away or anything, but it feels malicious to move between relationships with people who are near immobile and suffering from obesity related health conditions almost immediately after losing a partner to the same serious medical problems.
the community is obviously frothing over this development. there are a lot of opinions, but i’ve been very troubled by the amount of people who are dismissive of the potential danger of the situation because amber has supposedly consented to a relationship with a feeder with a shady past. amber made a video and a post ‘addressing the rumors’ where she confirmed that tommy’s late partner passed away, but denied the ‘rumor’ that she had a feederism fetish. it’s hard to say what exactly she knew before she entered this relationship. amber has repeatedly demonstrated that she is quite naive about being an online celebrity, has severe and deep seated issues with regulating her eating/lifestyle, and is a public figure who could easily be targeted by someone with less than pure intentions.
but because amber supposedly ‘knows what she’s getting into’, because she is a bit of a villain herself, because she struggles to maintain her health (and oftentimes, just straight up neglects it), amber can’t be a victim. because she’s ‘consented’, she can’t be blindsided by this internet stranger’s true colors. it’s reminding me of how people only want perfect victims with perfect circumstances, who are completely unaware that they’re going into dangerous relationships. nothing has even happened, but it’s reminding me how dark internet communities can become. it’s a complicated situation with so many overlapping fucked up subcultures/mindsets that show off the worst of the internet. there are countless reasons to dislike amber but it’s insane to me that people can look at an extremely shady relationship and just not care because of who is involved.

Hey pcos, fuck you!!!
Starting this blog (and a tiktok) to document my pcos journey. So here's the beginning, for those who are interested or also struggling:
In eighth grade (2012ish), I woke up for school like normal. Took a shower, did my makeup, etc. After I got up from sitting down, a stabbing pain radiated from my left lower abdomen. I told my mom I feel sick, and laid down. My mom is a nurse, so her immediate thought as I pointed to my right side was that my appendix had ruptured. Every bump we went over in the car had me crying out in pain. She hauled ass to the emergency room.
The doctors also originally thought my appendix had ruptured. Until they did an ultrasound.
I had 3 cysts on one ovary, 4 on the other. One, about 5cm, had ruptured, which is what was causing my pain. It took them 8 hours to figure this out.
At my follow up doctors appointment with my pediatrician, he told my mom I can't possibly have pcos because I don't have hairy nipples. I remember this conversation vividly. This was also the day I got on birth control. Apparently, it could help stop new cysts from forming.
I recieved no education and no diagnosis.
Years later, senior year of high school, debilitating periods were second nature to me. Throwing up, and then passing out on the bathroom floor were regular occurances. That was IF I got my period. Even with the placebo week on birth control, I still had very irregular periods. I just kept being told that it's normal. Switching birth controls. I ended up on depo Provera.
I originally attributed my 80 lb weight gain to the depo. So I switched back to the pill. Lost 0 weight. I eventually found a nurse practitioner who actually listened to me, ran blood work, and diagnosed me with pcos. This doctor has since left my state, so I am once again without anyone who will listen. Searching for a new one as we speak.
I remember being SO angry, because this was something I could've been diagnosed with in 8th grade. The painful periods, the cysts, the weight gain, all might've been able to be prevented if that original doctor knew what he was talking about. I was able to get my medical records about that day. They KNEW. And yet they didn't diagnose me, because my nipples weren't hairy.
Fun fact: you don't need to be showing signs of hirsutism (excessive hair growth) to have pcos. But that doctor didn't care or didn't take the time to research.
So now, I'm 25.
I've been on and off metformin, diagnosed pre-diabetic. I work out, daily, and do not lose weight. 800 calorie diets do not work for me. I've learned that this is very common for those with pcos. I am no longer on birth control. I was able to conceive and have a healthy pregnancy, which resulted in my daughter.
However, I still struggle. The biggest struggle I have is the fatigue, and painful periods. It got worse after having a baby. I was able to go from 250 lbs (post pregnancy) to now about 190ish. I am not certain what the exact number is, because I've given up on the scale (that bitch). I have not lost any weight in the months since then. I think breastfeeding benefited my weight loss more than anything.
The depression and anxiety have also been debilitating. Once again, all things that could've been prevented. I wonder how much different my life could've been if I'd learned about this in 8th grade.
I've also been diagnosed with Binge Eating Disorder. Caused by dieting or starving too much. I am currently recovering from that, and am now many months binge free. Did you know that if you have pcos, you're far more likely to have an eating disorder? I had no idea.
Well, tomorrow I'm beginning my PCOS journey. I had a 90 minute appointment with a dietician who specializes in pcos. And I'm going to share all that info with you.
I'm tired of finding website after website, promising free help with pcos but then "Hey, spend $300 if you actually want any info"
I pledge here and now that if this works, if I'm able to reverse my symptoms, I will NEVER sell the information. And shame on those who have.
My end goal here is to help people like me, who have struggled for years with no help.
My tiktok is active, search pcos.uno.reverse. The first video will be posted tomorrow (6/20).
Tomorrow, my life changes for the better. Follow along with me.

“15 Tips for Earning and Saving Money in 2024!” & More!
The Power of Reciprocity: Building a Supportive Online Community
In our digital age, we're all striving for success and recognition. However, true fulfillment comes from giving back and supporting one another. Let's explore the importance of reciprocity in nurturing a positive online community.
Embracing reciprocity: When we give and receive support in equal measure, it creates a symbiotic relationship that benefits everyone involved. Instead of solely focusing on personal gain, let's prioritize lifting each other up.
Following Back: If someone follows you on social media, reciprocate the gesture by following them back. This simple act shows appreciation and fosters a sense of camaraderie within your online network.
Engagement Matters: Don't stop at following back—engage with your followers by liking, sharing, and subscribing to their content. Building meaningful connections is key to fostering a supportive community.
Leading by Example: By embodying the principles of reciprocity, you inspire others to do the same. Together, we can create a culture of generosity and mutual support in the digital realm.
Conclusion: In a world where self-promotion often takes precedence, let's stand out by prioritizing reciprocity. When we give back to those who support us, we contribute to a thriving online community where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
With love always, Maria D.C. Santiago

best albums and female artists that shaped gen z
Tumblr media
Albums are a topic that has become a very controversial, since this can reveal people's music taste, bad or not. Albums, on the literal, are just collection and compilation of songs sold for the people to listen. But albums are also a form of art, they are a part of a story, whether for the artist, for the composer, or for the writer. Some people have their favorite albums that they cannot live without.
Tumblr media
Norman Fucking Rockwell!, and Lana Del Rey Arguably the best album of the 21st century, this album has been the best of them all. The first line of the first song of the album, the title track, "Goddamn, man child, You f*** me so good that I almost said, "I love you"", has sent her fans to heavens. The song talks about how she loves a man even though his imperfections are showing. Perhaps the most popular song on the album, "Doin' Time", is a cover of Sublime's original. The song has garnered more than 300 million streams on Spotify alone. Whilst the best song on the albums, as per fans would say, is the fan-favorite, "Happiness is a butterfly". The most iconic line, "If he's a serial killer, then what's the worst that can happen to a girl who's already hurt, I'm already hurt", has sent fans to their sad girl mode. The main producers of this album are Jack Antonoff, who also produced some of the best albums of this century, such as Lorde's Solar Power, Taylor Swift's evermore, and many more. Del Rey's fandom has been always been known for jokingly treating Lana Del Rey a God. Some of her fans was found praising her as if she was a God. Also, her fandom have been trending last year in the video-sharing app TikTok, for creating the Lana Del Rey cult, which influences people by spamming comment sections with comments such as, "⚠️✝️LANA DEL REY IS COMING✝️⚠️SING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM BEFORE ITS TOO LATE✝️⚠️LANA LOVES YOU ALL.". Lana Del Rey has always been known for her ever-changing reinvention of her aesthetics in music. Her albums have different euphoria and feel onto it. For example, her second album Ultraviolence, features darkness and melancholia. Then her album Lust of Life, which is a complete opposite of the previous album. Now features sublimity and simplicity. Her lyrics are also top-tier and monumental. She has always been a subject in comparing her work into Shakespeare's, which proved her mastery in poetry. Her best songs are as follows: West Coast Radio Salvatore Cherry The greatest Chemtrails over the Country Club Arcadia
Tumblr media
folklore, and Taylor Swift
Even an abrupt entrance to the realm of indie and folk genre, Swift has always been a superstar. Her reinvention did not made her lose fans but instead, she gained a ton. folklore has debuted on Spotify in its first day garnering a total of 80.6 million streams. The first song on her album, "the 1", has shocked many of Swifties since most of her songs starts with Pop. The line "but we were something don't you think so?", pertains into grieving a little bit, but moving forward and moving on. Perhaps the highlight of the album is the three songs, cardigan, august, and betty which symbolizes the love triangle in the album named Betty, Augustine, and James. Cardigan was the point of view of Betty, the original and righteous woman, worthy for the love of James. The line "and when I felt like I was an old cardigan, under someone's bed, you put me on and said I was your favorite", in this sense, The old cardigan was her, pertaining to the old love she had, the old relationship. Betty felt like James was cheating on her, using her like she was nothing. The song august is the point of view of Augustine, the other woman. The line "to live for the hope of it all, cancel plans just in case you'd call, and say meet me behind the mall", refers to the false hope and false trust of Augustine for James, the dedication of her for their secret love. The last line has a double meaning, it is meet me behind them all. The last song is betty, which is James's point of view in the relationship. The line "in the garden would you trust me, if I told you it was just a summer thing?" is the contrary on august "so much for summer love", meaning James didn't give an importance to Augustine. There are other songs in the album which has a message on people's mental health. Songs such as mirrorball, and this is me trying, has made fans cry. Swift's evolution in music is very rare, which led her into being a pop phenomena. Her country roots have led her into transitioning in pop, to folk, which has a distinct characteristics, very different from each other. Her different issues and feuds that almost plotted her downfall, but instead, she is one of the prominent artist in terms of longevity. One characteristic of her music is its relatability to its listeners, her target audience can be teens who had experienced their first heartbreak, which can be found in her album Fearless, or that depressing and heart-wrenching heartbreak, which can be found in her album Red, and finally finding the one, which can be found in her album Lover. There is no definite audience in listening Swift's discography. Her best songs are as follows: Cornelia Street Come Back...Be Here illicit affairs right where you left me
Tumblr media
Melodrama, and Lorde "I'm 19 and I'm on fire" When it comes to music for young adults and people who are suffering in existential crisis, then this album is for you. If music is art, then Melodrama is a painting. It is a completed canvas with its bombarding colors and hues resonating sadness, but also happiness. Feelings that we experience when we are in confusion in the grand scheme of life. This album has the highest critic score by a female artists with a whopping ninety-one percent. The first song on the album "Green Light" has the elements of anger with the fast paced beats of the song, and showed in the lyrics of the first verse, "she thinks you love the beach, you're such a damn liar". The song tells about moving on, but looking at the lens of resentment and anger. Perhaps the best song on the album is "Supercut", which means reminiscing and getting back to the films of the relationship, then getting back to the reality. The song are for people who has not moved on in the relationship, contrary to the first song Green Light. The line "all the moments I play in the dark, wild and fluorescent come home to my heart" pertaining to a flashback of her past love, the love that she can't come back to. The last song of the album is "Perfect Places". The phrase perfect places means even in the darkest moment of our lives, where we had lost the compass and the steering wheel of our lives, remember that this is just a period of time and someday, we will find a life that is very happy, free from all the problems. Lorde is one of the artists who was popular in her debut era. Her debut album Pure Heroine was one of the most acclaimed album of this century, and her smash-hit song Royals, is also one of the best songs by a female artist, and she did that when she was 15 years old. Her latest album Solar Power settles more on calming and meditative music, contrary to her past two albums, which is sonically loud and banging.

Lost connection [Corpse x reader]
Paring: Corpse husband x Gender neutral!reader
Summary: “Can you please write a story where the reader (female) isn't a youtuber or playing Among us with the crew? Preferably, angst and maybe unrequited love and meeting him through social media as a fan. The last sentence is not a requirement, I just wanna read a story where the reader isn't a successful youtuber or a youtuber at all. Just a normal person who doesn't have many talents.” Requested by anon
“Hi! If you feel like it, maybe a corpse x reader where he posts one of their tiktoks on his Instagram story and they start talking and falling for each other? <3” requested by anon
Warnings: idk sad ending?
Read part two here
A/N: Y/T = Your TikTok Coping with election stress by writing, and I still don’t even live in the US. I’m sorry only one for today <3 you got a hc too!
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
You had recently started making tiktoks, it was mostly closet cosplay to song you saw fitting to the character. It helped you escape the stress of everyday life. You liked the small following you usually got around 200 to 300 views, usually. That was until Corpse Husband himself had gotten in contact with you to ask permission to share a video of you dancing around a chair to his song Cat Girls are ruining my life. Of course, you said yes.
Leading to your video trending and you gaining a bit more followers before everything went back to normal. However, what didn’t go back to normal after a couple of days was the fact that you’re still talking to Corpse. You don’t really understand how this is still going on. You’ve been following him for quite a while now. This is big.
Corpse_Husband: I was thinking I could get your number, it’s easier than writing over here.
Y/T: Sure, here it is xxx-xxx-xxx
You pull your phone away from your face. Did you sound too desperate? A bit maybe? No? Maybe? Just a tid bit…
Unknown number: Well hello there, Y/T
You: New phone, who dis?
Too much? Oh god what if he doesn’t think it’s funny, or thinks you’re being serious. You stare intensely at the three dots; they disappear and your heart sinks for second before a message pops up.
Corpse: I wonder who
You: Welp, better go contact my fbi agent then.
Is that an outdated joke? You honestly weren’t too sure.
Corpse: It’s Corpse
Y/N: Ah! Never would have guessed, btw how was your day?
It didn’t take long before the two of you texted every day. It took two months before Corpse asked if he could call you. It awkward in the beginning.
“Soooooo…” You said trying to fill the silence.
“Yeah…” And so did he.
But the two of you slowly became comfortable with speaking and started calling every night before you would go to bed, which correlated to around an hour before his streams started. It was a beautiful friendship that was slowly blossoming into more. You could feel yourself falling harder as each day passed, as each time you listened to him talk. Even if it was just a silent phone call so the two of you could be together.
“You won’t believe what happened today!” Corpse had practically yelled through the phone at you, sounding somehow like the most deep voiced teenage girl out there.
“Go on tell me!” You matched his excitement. Ready to lend an ear until you wouldn’t be able to hold your eyes open anymore.
The big elephant in the room, only felt to grow the more you talked. You lived halfway across to world in the Netherlands, while he was in San Diego. You knew not to get your hopes up of him ever coming there. So instead you got a second job besides your studies and the first job. Meaning you spent less time talking to him, but it would be worth it you told yourself. It took you 4 months of barely speaking for you to have saved up for the ticket if you stayed at his place for the two days.
You were ready to tell him that, you had quit the second job earlier that day. You were excited. But when you called, it rang out. He’s probably just busy, you told yourself.
It rang out, the next day.
And the day after.
And the day after…
“You can no longer reach this number.” The telephone spoke at you, you stared at it in disbelief. You did the only thing you could think about and opened twitter for the first time in months. Straight on his page last tweet 12 days old. The last time you spoke together.
Corpse_Husband: Final Goodbyes hurt :(
You fall back on your bed your phone forgotten in your hand. You neglected him to be able to earn enough money to see him, driving him away in the effort. You’re bewildered at what to do, you just lost the only person you were able to connect with on a personal level.
You had lost your friend.

AOT Characters’ Modern Jobs Headcanon; The Vets Edition!
The jobs that The Vets would have in modern!au, their workplace antics and their back story. There might be some inaccuracies when describing the job as obviously I don’t work at these industries to know its intricacies. Most of the jobs are office jobs. Enjoyyyy!
My Masterlist .::. Pt. II: Zeke Yeager’s Modern Jobs Headcanon
Most recent work: Dream Me Home (Before Shiganshina) | reader x erwin smith
A/N: I really need to finish a presentation deck due tonight for an early morning meeting tomorrow but of course, this comes first hahaha
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
erwin!
A/N: Basically lawyer!erwin is the way to go, innit?
He's in his 40s, so he may have a settled career
He came from a white-collar, middle-class family. So he wasn’t silverspoon-fed, but his parents had enough money to put him through good school
Got a scholarship to go to one of the nation’s finest law schools
Kept it lowkey in college’s social circle, graduated with summa cum laude, developed a strong academic relation with his professor, and got recommended for an internship at top law firm at the capital city
Starting his career as a corporate lawyer, but then built his expertise as white-collar crime attorney
In his early 30s, he represented a union suing against conglomerate corporation in a big case that had national coverage, from then on he began to know his calling
Expanding his portfolio and became well-known for defending workers, consumers and civilians against corporate fraud scheme
Currently doing a lot of pro-bono cases for deprived victims of big corporate fraud. You would see him frequently gracing your local newspaper we love us some socialist king
On the side, he often writes for law journal and fills in as guest professor at local universities for summer courses
Established his own law firm with some of his partners, specializing in white collar crime and labor & employment law
He’s damn accomplished, but never really had any time for self-indulgence. Even after he becomes a household name in the country, with tens of attorneys working under him, his employees would still see him working on New Year’s Eve
He was always attentive to his employees, though. Although he has a very strict, borderline no-life work ethics, he never forces his employees to follow his habit, in fact he despises when his employees works on holidays and can be seen blaming himself for it a bit of a hypocrite but thats ok
He still takes metro to work. He prefers a very lowkey, ordinary lifestyle because he fears if he shows any knack for indulgence, he will be susceptible to gratification from potential enemies or crooked politicians
Definitely a sight to see at the workplace, for he's tall and always oozes a sense of authority in the way he speaks and carries himself generally
His emotional intelligence is top-notch, you would never meet someone who is able to be very objective and calculating, while being kind and compassionate at the same time
His fellow attorneys put a lot for respect for him, and hundreds of applicants come to his considerably small firm every week, because a lot of aspiring attorney find him inspiring to work with
He wasn’t oblivious to his shiny reputation, but he’s trying his hardest to not let the compliments get to his head. Sometimes he doesn’t give himself enough credit for it
Was approached by one of the political party’s committee to run for local senate, but turned it down
basically he’s perfect if you like a man who’s never home for christmas

Hange!
A/N: Ok ok, I really wanna see Paleontologist!Hange because it has always been my fave dream job, but I want Hange to be out and about with people so here it is
Hange is the type to be incredibly good at one thing, that she will dedicate her whole life for that pursuit, but will be awfully oblivious to a whole lot of things (not intentional of course, they just have a very limited attention span) (they wouldn’t know who kanye west is or what tiktok is)
Like Erwin, they came from a middle-class family. While Erwin’s parents might have been teachers, accountants or other common profession, Hange came from a family of academician and researchers
Hange studied Human Geography at uni, but later found passion specifically in its relation to industrialization and urban development
Hange aims to advocate for a better living condition for workforce, and nearby inhabitants of industrialized city detroit would be a beautiful city if only they let hange designed it
Hange is a professor at university, where they also led a non-profit research think-thank that also serves as pressure group for better government policy.
The university that Hange teaches in, is also the uni where Erwin teaches in summer. They’re close-knitted colleagues as they share similar passion. Erwin relies on Hange a lot for some intellectual insights to help his cases
Hange is relentless in their cause, you may find Hange everywhere! From street protest to a hearing in the government court. They are passionate and will do anything for the cause they believe in
Hange was once hired by the government as an independent consultant for a new housing project, but left because they grew to be frustrated by the government’s bureaucracy and their outward reluctance to follow Hange's recommendation
Hange spends a lot of time overseas, consulting and advocating development in newly industrialized countries
On Hange’s birthday, her fellow researchers surprised them with a ‘pampering day’ where they took them to an optometrist because Hange had been complaining about their eyesight for a YEAR that gave them a lot of migraines, but was always either too busy or too lazy to go
Hange never really considers themselves as working, because they enjoy their job very much. Hange likes to spend months observing a community, talking to people for hours, and trying their best in understanding their problem
Out of so many great qualities that Hange has as a researcher that meets different set of people everyday, prejudice or preconceived judgment is completely absent in Hange’s demeanor and perspective
Hange doesn’t get a lot of free-time, even if they do, they’d wander around the city to do a little observation. But when the weather’s bad and they’re stuck at home with their pet lizard, they would logged into Quora to answer random internet questions
They’re an avid writer for National Geographic, and one time Hange won a pitch to make a documentary about an industrial city project they were working on
After the docu-series got broadcasted, Hange gained a small but passionate and loyal fans on the internet. You could even find a subreddit dedicated for Hange’s works
for real I want to be Hange. I want to have that kind of passion in life

levi!
A/N: I spent a lot of times thinking about Levi’s job in modern!au. Because here’s the thing, either we adopt his unfortunate childhood into its modern!au equivalent, or let’s just recreate his whole upbringing. But I think his personality stems from a specific things he experienced during childhood, so let’s not dismiss that.
Levi came from a struggling working class family. I reckon his parents might have had worked multiple jobs to sustain their living expense. Unfortunately they both passed away when Levi was very little, and left little to no inheritance
Levi’s parents were not close to their extended family, so when they died, Levi was admitted to the system and had to brace several foster families who didn’t really pay attention to him
Little Levi had come to realize that life’s all about survival and so he had been able to fend on for himself since very young age, he never asked for things
His uncle, Kenny, finally won custody over Levi when he was in elementary. Kenny made money from small-scale racketeering here and there. Levi never asked what he did for living, as long as he got food to eat and tuition paid off
Kenny was emotionally absent, but he loved spending time with the oddly quiet little child, teaching him a lot of crafts, from carpentering to how to flay pig’s skin
Levi didn’t really care about getting into college, and thought that he’d probably end up working for his uncle, so he put his bare minimum throughout school, although he was really good with numbers, especially in math, accounting and finance
One time in high school, Levi’s teacher asked him to sign up for the olympiad team, Levi turned it down because he thought that was a rich kid thing
He didn’t even apply for college, and worked odd jobs after high school. Probably working as cashiers or assistant to retail shop’s owner for couple of years, enough for him to afford a cheap studio apartment on his own
One of his bosses came to acknowledge Levi’s talent, and trusted him to handle the company’s accounting
By sheer luck, the company hit it big, and Levi found himself running the day-to-day accounting of mid-sized business with over 300 employees
He made good money already without a college degree, but with a new-found confidence Levi applied for uni, where he chose to study accounting (of course)
Although he was confident with his skills, he understood he needed to widen his horizon and network -- thus uni
Levi was one of the oldest members of his cohort in uni, but graduated with highest distinction
After graduating, with his skills and experience, it wasn’t hard for Levi to score a job at top accounting firm
There, he discovered an interest for forensic accounting, where through audits, analysis and investigation, he basically finds out if a company is doing fraud and embezzlement or not
This is where he came to know and get acquainted with Erwin and Hange (yippie they’re together again)
The firm he works for was assigned to investigate the finances of a troublesome company that had been sued by its workers for a jeopardizing working condition. Erwin was on the case, and Levi helped him with evidences for legal proceeding.
By chance, Erwin introduced Levi to Hange. At first, Levi would find Hange annoying and overtly energized, but after learning the things they have done, Levi grew to appreciate Hange’s passion (and secretly wants to have more of his positive outlook)
Levi is fucking good his job. In short amount of time, he could get a really ideal position in the office. He was almost foolproof, finding even the tiniest bit of discrepancy in his audit. He’d get assigned to the big league case/project.
Although really good at his job, he’s not a social person, especially in his office. He couldn’t understand the lavish lifestyle that finance and banking people often lead. He will only show up to office party if it is really necessary for him to show up (usually to receive some kind of informal awards for, again, being so fucking good)
He leads a no-bullshit attitude at the office, largely because of his background. He is a self-made man, and is not easy to impress by some young executives from posh school that talk bigger than they can chew
His cold, seemingly dismissive attitude gained him a reputation of being scary, when actually he is very considerate
One of the things he enjoys doing is to actually teach, he really likes when a new kid at the office come to him with none of that pretentious, big talk, and really asks for his guidance. He would love to teach you a thing or two
He would frequently check on his mentee, just to keep up with their development
And he doesn’t take credit too. When his mentee makes a milestone, he believes it’s 100% your work
If you’re his mentee, he probably doesn’t give a crap about your personal life, so don’t expect him to make small talk about that (and don’t ask him about his personal life either). But he really cares about your skill and career development
Same with Erwin, he leads a very ordinary lifestyle. He doesn’t go out often and would rather reading detective novel with his cat on the couch
He likes to spend Sunday at Uncle Kenny’s house, because he finds himself worried about the old man very often. They became close as Levi grew
Overall, Levi is a really kind and caring person if you know how not to push his button

RECENT NEWS, RESOURCES & STUDIES, July 19 2020
Tumblr media
Welcome to my latest summary of recent ecommerce news, resources & studies including search, analytics, content marketing, social media & Etsy! This covers articles, podcasts, videos and infographics I came across since the late June report, although some may be older than that.
I‘m still working on Etsy search testing and a few new blog posts and pages for my website, so it is still difficult for me to get this summary out more than 1-2 times a month. All suggestions on solutions to my time crunch are welcome.
If you have an questions, comments or suggestions about my Tumblr or my blog, please contact me here or on my website. I’d love to know what you think!
TOP NEWS & ARTICLES
Latest change from Google: the free Google Shopping listings will now show up in US organic search as part of product knowledge panels. Unfortunately, since they are only doing this for product knowledge panels to begin with, it likely won't help handmade sellers, but could be useful to sellers of vintage & supply items that are known products that will have a knowledge panel. It may be a sign that they are planning on moving free ads to more Google "surfaces" over time, however. Note that it appears that all product knowledge panel ads will be free starting this summer (US only), so that means that any Etsy paid ads for these types of items will become free ads that you won't have to pay EOA fees on if you get a sale. Google claims the free ads are bringing more searcher engagement to Shopping.
Amazon announced they will begin to show US sellers’ business name and address on the Seller Profile page as of September 1. The same requirement already exists in Europe, Japan and Mexico.
The USPS will no longer be delivering mail as promptly every day, to cut costs. This potentially affects anyone shipping to a destination in the United States.
How 7 different companies grew profits during the last recession - there will still be business opportunities during the upcoming recession, but you have to be positioned to take them.
ETSY NEWS
Etsy Labels no longer offer USPS international shipping options for all packages under 4.4 pounds other than Canadian orders, replacing them with the Global Postal Shipping Program (GPSP). Many US sellers dislike the GPSP, and have moved on to outside providers that integrate with an Etsy shop and other services, such as Pirate Ship, Shippo, Stamps, and Shipstation.
The quarterly category & attributes updates are limited to face mask & hand sanitizer attributes for July. Etsy also made some other minor updates recently, including allowing us to set a message auto reply for up to 5 days.
You may have noticed that Etsy is really pushing Etsy Ads on sellers right now, despite the numerous complaints about the average cost per click becoming far too high last year. I’ve turned mine off permanently, but if you are interested in trying them or fine-tuning them, Etsy released an article and a related podcast with a transcript.
Louisiana and Mississippi have been added to the list of states that Etsy collects sales tax from.
Etsy raised fees on Reverb to 5%, “to make further investments on behalf of our sellers.”
Etsy will release the second quarter results on August 5. We already know that April and May were record-setting, and June was also probably pretty good.
The site has continued to receive decent media coverage for the mask initiative; Etsy is mentioned in several articles/broadcasts a day as a place to get masks, including stylish ones. This article briefly interviews a seller and looks at what Etsy will do next, as the mask demand peak might be over.
Now that people think of Etsy for things like face masks, Etsy is continuing to market itself as a place to buy everyday items, something it shied away from for a few years. (Remember when Etsy was all about “owning special”?) They’ve added “Everyday Finds” links & Editors Picks pages, and have published tips on what pandemic shoppers are looking for. (Note that the year over year values compare this April to last April, and so were during peak lockdown for the US.)  “Keeping surfaces clean is top of mind these days, and shoppers are searching on Etsy for many types of cleaners, from all-purpose scrubs to washable sponges...134% YoY increase in searches on Etsy containing “ceramic sponge holder.”...”74% YoY increase in searches on Etsy containing “mug”...”352% YoY increase in searches on Etsy containing “diy”.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but this page on the search and ads algorithms appears to be relatively new.
SEO: GOOGLE & OTHER SEARCH ENGINES
The sea change in online buyer behaviour during the pandemic may mean that you need to update your keyword research. Keyword volumes have changed, some very dramatically. For example “‘adult bikes’ shows a massive upturn. This represents over ten times as many searches for this term compared to just under a year ago. If you projected this back in 2019 you’d probably be laughed at.”
Speaking of keyword research, if you need a refresher on why you should do it and how to approach it, here is a recent article.
There are many different ways to get backlinks; here are a few that are pretty easy [video & text].
Are longer blog posts better for SEO? Not necessarily, as long as you cover the topic well. The exception is that blog posts under 300 words are usually not worth writing.
Most SEOs think there was an unannounced Google update around the third week of June. Some are reporting that sites that specialize made gains, as opposed to those who have more general material. That same study reports Etsy had one of the largest traffic increases, but not as much as Pinterest (I’ve been seeing a lot more pins when Googling lately, so this seems likely.) Government websites also seem to have received better visibility. “As Google has described in their document on how they fight disinformation, they describe that their systems are designed to prefer authority over other factors “in times of crisis”. If this truly is related to what we saw happen in June, these changes could possibly be reversed once the worldwide pandemic situation improves.”
Bing released a few basic tips on how to use its keyword planner.
(CONTENT) MARKETING & SOCIAL MEDIA (includes blogging & emails)
TikTok has moved out of Hong Kong, while the US government may be looking at banning them, following India’s move on July 6. With TikTok in peril, many people are now downloading its competitor Byte.
If you use Facebook for your business, please read up on the changes required to comply with California’s new privacy law.
Instagram is now testing an Instagram Shop tab, which allows users to filter by category.
Twitter is planning on starting a subscription service, but deleted some of the details  from the job listing just hours later.
One of the results of the big Twitter hack on July 15th was Google removing the Twitter carousel from its search results.
Pinterest searches involving Christmas started way earlier this year, with a 77% increase YOY in April. “That includes a 3x increase in searches for “Christmas gift ideas”, while other queries like “holiday recipes” and “Christmas” were up more than 90% and 80% respectively.” These are good stats for marketers to have, helping us decide when to release and promote new products.
ONLINE ADVERTISING (SEARCH ENGINES, SOCIAL MEDIA, & OTHERS)
Spending too much on Facebook ads? Here are some common mistakes and some suggestions on fixing them.
If you already know that ROAS stands for “return on ad spend” then some of this article may be old news to you.
STATS, DATA, OTHER TRACKING
If you are using Google Shopping with your website, be aware that the Google bots may be inflating your abandoned cart rate.
Google Analytics can help you track the effects of changes to your website, or other business conditions. You can also get alerts when certain types of events happen, or when traffic is abnormal.
ECOMMERCE NEWS, IDEAS, TRENDS
Walmart is expected to launch Walmart+, similar to Amazon Prime, this month. But note that while many brick & mortar businesses are now doing a lot more business online, it is more expensive for them.
For those of you who use Stitch Labs, they have been purchased by Square, and the existing services will likely be cut in 2021.
Deja vu for Etsy sellers - eBay was apparently offering incentive payments for signing up for their new Managed Payments system by mid-July. (Etsy did the same with its Etsy Payments system, but only for Americans.)
Is Amazon Handmade as good for small makers as it claims? Maybe not. If you sell on Amazon, consider these strategies to protect your core business from being swamped by the big A.
Wix has introduced an ecommerce version with a lot more options and integrations.
Shopify’s new “Shop” app has some good features but also some issues. [podcast & edited transcript]
BigCommerce filed to go public, and added Ayden as a payment option. More details on the Ayden move here.
Did you know there are sites you can use to sell your ecommerce business? Here are 10 of them.
BUSINESS & CONSUMER STUDIES, STATS & REPORTS; SOCIOLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY, CUSTOMER SERVICE
US ecommerce sales are now expected to grow 18% this year, while overall retail is predicted to be down 10.5%. “In a pandemic economy, consumers have gravitated toward trusted and reliable retailers. As a result, we can expect the top 10 ecommerce retail businesses to grow at above average rates (21.8%). Amazon will gain US ecommerce market share this year, while Walmart's accelerating ecommerce growth will take it to the No. 2 position for the first time.”
Fear of missing out (FOMO) is a factor you can use to drive sales; here are 6 tips.
Generation Z is acutely attached to internet use, and is more likely to be planning on starting their own business than any other generation.
MISCELLANEOUS
It’s possible that the increase in people working from home will lead to more work hours and therefore more burnout.

The Unbelievable Success Story Of Tik-Tok
Tik-Tok (previously known as musical.ly) is a free social networking platform that allows you to view, make, share, and discover short music videos, which are usually 15 seconds long and set to popular music. Young people used the app musical.ly to express themselves and show off their talents by singing, dancing, comedy, lip-syncing, and other activities.
Zhang began his business in 2012 with the launch of an online news service that mainly relied on artificial intelligence. He would later build Tik-Tok and Douyin a few years later (which is the Chinese version of the app). Tik-Tok has over 800 million monthly active users, according to our newly released Digital 2020 report, up 300 million from January 2019,” stated Ryan Donovan, Hootsuite’s CTO. In this article, we’ll take look at the success stoty of Tik-Tok.
1. What Explains The Success?
Tik-Tok’s success can be due to the way it turns what we think of as social media on its head while still bringing us back to the original appeal–the ability to become viral. We’ve all become so focused on increasing our reach by accumulating a large fan base of subscribers or follows that it’s nice to have a platform with an algorithm that prioritizes content over anything else. As a result, meme culture is reaching new heights, offering Gen Z a visible space to express themselves while also allowing marketers to encourage their consumers in genuine, amusing ways. They’re also taking concrete steps to increase user trust, which will ultimately determine the platform’s destiny.
2. Tik-Tok Appeals To These Users in a Variety of Ways
For starters, it’s simple to use. Tik-Tok makes editing and uploading content far easier than comparable apps like Instagram or Snapchat. Content can be readily created and shared by anybody with a smartphone. Second, TikTok is a one-of-a-kind, highly specialized program that appears to be designed for today’s youth, who are frequently glued to their cellphones and bored. It appeals to their short attention span, and the brief humor video segments are comfortingly familiar because the app contains the same type of content. Third, I discovered that they employ advanced AI algorithms to learn user preferences and then give them with tailored video feeds.
3. Smart Paid Media Approach and User Acquisition
Tik-Tok had a smart paid media approach and user acquisition when it first launched, which helped them achieve mobile success. The app’s users then spread the word about it. Furthermore, the app’s onboarding is unlike any other app or what most product managers are accustomed to. When you first launch the app, there is no sign-up or tutorial—it just sends you straight to the material, which immediately engages the audience. This is a fresh tactic that has piqued the interest of Tik-Tok’s Gen Z audience and will continue to work in the future when it comes to user acquisition.
4. Competitors of Tik-Tok
The Instagram connection helped Tik-Tok gain popularity. Thousands of individuals share Tik-Tok videos on their Instagram stories every day, which plays a major part in Tik-Tok usage/download rates due to the app’s vast user base. Through Instagram stories and Instagram influencers, a large number of individuals got aware of Tik-Tok.
5. Tik-Tok’s Revenue and Statistics
In terms of monthly active users, Tik-Tok has eclipsed Twitter, Telegram, Reddit, Pinterest, and Snapchat. In August 2021, TikTok’s parent company (Bytedance) was reportedly valued at $280 billion. Between January 2018 and July 2020, Tik-Tok’s global userbase grew by 1157.76 percent, while the United States had a 787.86 percent gain. With 611 million downloads to date, India is the most major contributor to TikTok installs. With an average session length of 10.85 minutes, TikTok is the most engaging social media app, surpassing Pinterest in second place with 5.06 minutes. The total amount of time spent on TikTok in 2019 was 68 billion hours.
6. Popularity and Huge User Base
Tik-Tok creators can make up to $5 million per year and have up to 100 million followers. Entertainment, dance, pranks, fitness/sports, and DIY are all popular content genres. All other social media heavyweights such as YouTube, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger, which round up the top five, are beaten by the app. These figures assist in generating revenue.
Many Asian countries, including Cambodia, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, use TikTok. TikTok has a significant impact on China’s and India’s lower and middle classes. Around 43% of new users on Tik-Tok are from India, according to the company. Before it was prohibited, the app had over 200 million users in India. In addition, according to available data, Indian users spent over 5.5 billion hours on TikTok in 2019. Jio internet services deserve credit for providing Indians with fast access to these 15-second videos as well as the option to upload similar videos. TikTok has a lot to do with the expanding influencer category.

What age is TikTok
Professionals on TikTok get on and Smash it now.
The world is changing. People have shorter attention spans. People want information quick. Short form video content (under 30 seconds) is getting more attention than the other sort of content on social media.
Are you continue to underestimating TikTok? Are you uninterested in Instagram’s snail-like growth? TikTok could seriously help grow your brand, much faster than the other platform. But why?
Here are 10 reasons why professionals and corporations should smash it on TikTok immediately in 2021:
1. Any Niche, Any Professional on TikTok
Yes, TikTok started getting famous due to dancing, but if you are doing not want to ascertain dancing, then TikTok will now show it to you. what's so successful about TikTok is that the algorithm. It gradually understands what you wish by watching what you've got watched and interacted with. If you looked for plumbing then watched a couple of plumbing videos, then the algorithm will recognize that and feed you more relevant content almost like that. you'll find many professional on the platform. I even have connected with doctors, lawyers, engineers and professional athletes to call just a couple of . If you're wondering what quite content you'll create for yourself or your business, you simply need to look for something similar by other professionals on TikTok, in your niche, to urge ideas. A baker can show baking bread, a chiropractor can show necks being clicked. The ideas are endless.
If you're lucky to figure for you own company then the chances are endless. Companies do encourage social media for promotion. Sam Fares (@thepatentattorney), who may be a Lawyer, says people at his work are surprisingly supportive. TikTok are often an honest marketing tool and even large companies are beginning to add a social media policies to make sure boundaries aren't crossed.
2. it isn't only for Kids
According to Comscore statistics, US TikTok users by age is: 33% children and 67% adults. This statistic was taken at the top of 2020, so it's fairly old now therefore the platform has matured even more now.
Even, Gordan Ramsey (@gordonramsayofficial) is using TikTok himself now and most of the large YouTubers like Mr. Beast (@mrbeast) are there already. Instagram Reels remains far behind TikTok - the videos on Reels are like what was being shown on TikTok two years ago, with mostly music only. you'll copy the platform but you'll not copy the audience. i buy many comments and messages by adults everyday on the platform and on the road . a number of these are passed on from their siblings too. Bare in mind, if you influence the younger generation, this also rubs off on the oldsters . So TikTok could even be an honest investment strategy if you are doing target Generation Z. But eventually 67% of TikTok users are adults.
3. TikTok Helps Growth on other platforms like IG and Youtube
TikTok provides links on your profile for both Instagram and Youtube. there's also a choice to add link to your website otherwise you can even put LinkedIn there if you wish . These links are quite other platforms need to offer. Instagram only allows you to insert one link on your platform, so does Twitter, and Clubhouse that only as two. These links gives an honest opportunity to spread your followers elsewhere. Social Media Strategist, Caleb Chin (@socialfeed) thinks that one among the quickest thanks to grow a following on Instagram in 2021 is to create a TikTok following. i might need to agree.
"The quickest thanks to grow on Instagram is to create a following on TikTok."
Successful TikTok accounts also can build an outsized number of subscribers on Youtube without even published one video on YouTube. Take writer and storyteller, Greg Hinthorn (@hinthorn) for instance . He reached bent his TikTok audience and told them he will published his first Youtube video when he reached 4000 subscribers on there. Now he has reached 4000 subscribers on Youtube from TikTok. he's now publishing videos on both platforms.
4. Most Downloaded App on the App Store
According to Appfigures data, TikTok is that the most downloaded app. 90% of all TikTok users access the app on a day to day .
Furthermore, consistent with App Annie, TikTok's screen time at the start of 2021 overtook Facebook for the primary time. the typical screen time for a mean TikTok user is over 20 hours per month.
5. Engagement Can Attract Leads
Client opportunities, contacts, influence and leads - the engagement within the comments section on TikTok is insane. I even have never seen anything love it . there's also a messaging service on TikTok. this will be turned in settings, so anyone can send you a message. you'll also directly reply to an issue via a video which which is shared on your feed, which may helps engagement.
American Architect Tom Reynolds AIA (@tiktokarchitect) has been active on the platform for a year now confirms.
"I'm actually getting more work coming from TikTok now, than anywhere else."
6. TikTok is Authentic
TikTok is transparent and authentic. there's not many commercials or people trying to sell. you are doing not get many of us selling their eBook or spending the primary 5 mins asking you to subscribe because those sort of videos don't had best . TikTok is blunt, straight to the purpose and these are the videos that had best on TikTok. People try to offer something quickly. If you give value meaning something, then an audience will come. Vulnerability is additionally a key factor that folks like. the right filtered and edited photograph on Instagram isn't authentic, neither may be a highly produced YouTube video. People can relate to TikTok because its real - the videos that tend to try to to well aren't the over productive type. it's like what Youtube was 20 years ago. Transparency, vulnerability and authenticity goes an extended way on social media in 2021 and TikTok fits.
7. Learn on TikTok
TikTok has heavily invested $50 million into an ingenious learning fund on short form educational content, which might be the longer term for social media and online education. If you begin learning the way to give information or teach with videos now, this might bring many opportunities for your business or personal brand within the near future. it's not about selling something - its about giving value.
"We've partnered with over 800 public figures, media publishers, educational institutions, and real-world professional ... to supply us creative learning." -TikTok
8. Its Quick and straightforward
If you're a business and employing a videographer to try to to you videos - take care . tons of media companies don't have much experience with short form video, or TikTok. it's a reasonably new thing. they're likely wont to top quality produced videos. Have they published many short videos? Have they built an audience before? These are the questions you ought to be asking them. Quantity is more important for brief form video content. The TikTok app has almost everything in it to make videos quickly, even green screen. you are doing not need to spend one to 2 hours during a room like Club House or spend every week editing an extended form video. Many creators are beginning to up the sport with mirrorless cameras rather than their phone, for higher quality, but this has not oversaturated the platform yet.
9. 100% Creativity
This makes it fantastic if you're within the creative industry. Creating videos displays your creativity. YouTube and TikTok are the highest creative media platforms.
On one hand, you've got you Instagram and LinkedIn where there's tons of individuals sharing other people's content? for instance , a number of the highest architecture accounts on Instagram are accounts reposting other peoples content. it is the same with LinkedIn. People even download other peoples videos on other platforms and repost them on LinkedIn. These videos don't have much creativity.
On the opposite hand, uploads on TikTok have very high creativity. one among my favorite and straightforward videos was made by Architect, Dory Azar (@dory.azar.architect) who actually drew a door swing under a door to elucidate how door swings are drawn. When lecture Dory on Clubhouse, he explained that folks like simple explanations - they appear to figure best.
10. More Organic Reach Than the other Platform
If you begin a replacement account on today with no followers, post something, that post has potential to succeed in more people than the other platform. there's only LinkedIn immediately that comes close. But, new businesses still slug away at Instagram and Facebook in 2021. These platforms tend to be more powerful for people that have already built an audience, have account authority, or want to pay via promotion. this is often partly the rationale why TikTok is so popular. Everyone features a chance for videos to try to to well and reach an audience. Social media apps like Instagram and Facebook are old matured platforms now. These reasons help make TikTok the platform of choice.
If you would like to create a brand, you ought to obviously start by getting to the platforms with the foremost reach. albeit you're still convinced the audience is just too young on TikTok, it could still be an honest marketing investment for you within the short to future .
It might be time to prevent shaking your head. Its a no brainer. TikTok and short form video content is here to remain .
RIBA Chartered Architect, Russell M. Henderson (@ArchitectRussell) is predicated in Tanzania, East Africa . He also 'edu-tains' his passion for Architecture Travel & Film with video content on YouTube , TikTok & Instagram.
Acquisition customer top 5 to use Tiktok
Tiktok is presently gaining popularity with over 300 million active users worldwide. Most business owners feel Tiktok isn't ideal for business because it's crammed with entertainment and sometimes ridiculous videos.
But, that was what many said about Instagram and Snapchat. Today, these two platforms are getting used by top brands to get many thousands for his or her business monthly.
There are numerous reasons why small business must use Tiktok to urge new customers. But during this post, we only covered top 5 reasons.
1. it's Easy to create Communities
With Tiktok for business, building communities is extremely easy. Tiktok may be a video content platform, and with video, grabbing people’s attention is extremely easy as modern-day users are more likely to consume video content than written content.
So, small business owners can cash in of this to make numerous videos of about 15 – 60 seconds to grab the eye of their audience and build their following.
Some people are just on the platform to consume content and to not create. So, with this in mind, your job is to offer them something to consume and obtain their interest.
2. Over 500 Active Users Globally
The number of active users on Tiktok is insane. With over 500 million active users globally, this is often not a chance small businesses should ignore.
Although the most important demographic of Tiktok users are between the age of 16 – 24. But that doesn’t mean people of older age aren't there.
Much like other previous “hot” social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat, Generation Z was the primary to leap on them. So is that the same for Tiktok.
However, if you log into the platform now, you'll find freelancers, dentists, teachers, fashion designers, and even grandparents actively using the platform.
3. it's Easy to Grab Users Attention
Tiktok may be a video-sharing platform and videos are the sole quite content that grabs your attention without you approving it. It starts playing immediately you set your eyes thereon .
Small businesses can cash in of this to share educational, entertaining, and promotional videos moderately. Users are on the platform to be entertained so small businesses must find out how to balance their content because it only takes a scroll to chop your video out.
4. Top Brands Are Claiming their Spots
Go check in on Tiktok now and search if you won’t find top brands like Walmart, Family Feud, HP, and other top brands. numerous brands are now taking advantage of the trend to make awareness and obtain more customers for his or her business.
5. A Platform to Sell with Fun
As a sensible marketer, you ought to be ready to promote your brand to your audience with less invasive techniques. Millennials are already conscious of most marketing tactics and thus they're going to ignore your videos if you are trying to travel the standard ways.
Using stories in your content to pass your brand message will produce a win for you. you'll gain tons of attention by launching a hashtag challenge. A hashtag challenge is where you tell users to make a specific quite video and incorporate your branded hashtag thereto .
You can work with a Tiktok influencer to actually make this type of challenge go viral.
What you need to know about TikTok
TikTok is one of those social networks that grew in popularity VERY quickly, but if you are over the age of 30, you still might have NO IDEA what the platform is all about.
Let’s start with the basics:
Who uses it?
TikTok is primarily used by the under 30’s. 60% of US TikTok users are aged between 16-24, according to a November 2019 release from Reuters.
What is it?
TikTok is basically a re-branding of Musical.ly (don’t worry if you haven’t heard of that either). Basically, it is a social platform where creators can post 15ish second videos (up to 60 seconds) that are shared to their followers, with hopes of landing on the apps “For You Page” (FYP).
What is being posted?
This is a tough one. In the early days, TikTok was full of lip-syncing, and dancing. Today, the scope of content varies, and the algorithm that the platform uses is VERY advanced. Based on the types of videos you watch, and seem to enjoy – the algorithm will shoot out all sorts of videos that it thinks you may enjoy.
For this reason, you may see completely different content than someone else on the app. There are now “Sides” of TikTok as the youth are calling it. This basically means the type of content you are being shown. Political TikTok, Dancing TikTok, Alt TikTok, Straight TikTok, Food TikTok or many others!
Disclaimer: I am definitely on the Puppy and FoodTok side!
Can you make money?
Depending on your location, there is now a creator fund on TikTok for some users. This means that you can earn money per-view on your videos. Unless you have a very large following (we are talking in the millions) TikTok might not be a stable source of income, however, the exposure it brings can open LOTS of doors. Many famous TikTok-ers are now treated like typical celebrities, so sponsors and endorsements are a large portion of their income.
Is it for business?
It’s a powerful tool for the right companies, with the right demographics. We have seen a bump of tiktok of companies using influencers to share their products, creating original ads, or creating accounts and posting unique content. If your target demographic is under 30, this could be a perfect platform to explore!
Even politicians are getting in on the action!
TikTok is a very trendy app, with tons of young minds. Some political figures are using this platform to reach out to young voters and soon-to-be voters. This is an incredibly smart move in my opinion!
One Canadian example that comes to mind is Jagmeet Singh - check out his profile here!
Should you get TikTok?
This is a personal choice. If you are a fan of Instagram and social media in general, and you can use a smart phone with 60% confidence… why not give it a shot?
There have been privacy issues globally, and instances of banning in the US – so do your research and be mindful of what you are sharing, commenting, and engaging with on the App.
Overall, it is a fun platform with absolutely no pressure to ever post anything yourself. You can watch videos for hours, or if you are feeling up to the challenge – try posting a video for yourself!
Conclusion
If your business targets millennials, Tiktok is the perfect platform to get new customers for your business. Small businesses willing to create entertaining and humorous videos can take advantage of this platform to create visibility for their brands and get new customers.

Which social media platform is for you?
Tumblr media
As the world stands today, social media is an inexpensive way to keep in touch with your audience. If you've had a look around you can see that there are a great number of different social applications and networks (if you want the very long list of social media sites have a look on this Wikipedia page. This is useful as it has numbers of registered users on each platform and Alexa page rankings included!). These all have different audiences and fulfil a different 'need' for their audience and for the people posting. Here’s our short list of the top 3 types of social media including an example of what platform this could be: Social networks - people and businesses, connecting with people (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter...) Media sharing networks - for sharing images, audios and videos (instagram, YouTube. Tiktok...) Discussion forums - for people and brands to share views and news (Reddit, Quora...) We have accounts on most of the above (and more), but obviously to publish content on all these would be a full time challenge. It may seem overkill, but being up to date on these networks and sharing your knowledge, helps to build social currency. Social Currency is all about reputation (much the same as brand is) it's a measure of your influence on both social networks and offline, and the degree to which your output is then shared by your target audience and others.
Let's look at a few platforms then...
So, let's skip through each of these platforms one by one, giving a very brief flavour of what each network is about, who the audience is and what sort of messages work well on each. One thing to bare in mind across all platforms though is to remember that 'social media' is very much social. Don't spend all your time talking about yourself and your business. If possible we always recommend the 80:20 rule: 80% posts related to your business area (even vaguely), but not directly promoting it20% can be promoting your business more specifically, but still make it 'more conversational' LinkedIn - In the past company pages within LinkedIn used to be viewed primarily as HR landing pages for people looking for jobs. LinkedIn as a whole used to be where professionals could find their next role - through making relevant connections. A lot has changed, and although this is still how some people use it (though better than before) the network is also becoming a great place to help drive business from. It's also becoming a platform to educate your audience of your products and services and in turn, raise brand awareness.
Tumblr media
This is very much a professional to professional network, with men slightly more likely to be LinkedIn users than women (57% of LinkedIn users are male*). Here is where a specialist business of service can get technical with your chosen audience, you can talk shop or post articles direct from your website without any changes. Facebook – On the face of it, it is great way for people to keep in touch with family and friends. It is social media for everyday use. In terms of a business, it can be great for building brand awareness, after all Facebook is one of the largest social media platforms in the world. Remember to post links that interest people though - a post about an accountancy firm will stand out between two pictures of kittens acting cute! - not in a good way. Facebook can drive traffic to your website through posting links and by targeted ads. Ads (which cost money) can get your brand in front of a very specific audience – target specific demographics, based on location, age, gender and interests. To gain traction with your audience, it is best to post fun items in amongst your more business focussed elements.
Tumblr media
Twitter – is a platform that provides access to millions of users (330 million monthly active users*) all over the world. It tends to be more popular with 'educated' individuals. I was once explained that Twitter was like walking into a noisy pub and being able to listen in on each of the conversations (at the time, in 140 characters). The challenge with Twitter is that it is very much a global platform. Your followers could be all over the world, very few of them (if you're a local business) could be your target audience. Through using hashtags you can help the transition from global to local. Though it is very much dependant on your audience using them too. If you market to these people appropriately, then you stand to gain a great amount of exposure. Using a post scheduling platform may help make using Twitter more manageable as the more you post the more audience you gain. Remember - liking, mentioning and commenting on other peoples tweets is a simple way to connect with other users.
Tumblr media
Instagram - is a key platform for younger audiences (67% of people ages 18-29 use Instagram*) and is consistently adding new functionality for business users. It’s an extremely visual platform, in fact it's pretty much all about imagery. As it has become more and more ubiquitous, every small business should consider using it. You should share images of your products in a setting that would be more reflective of your audience. Short videos are ideal of your products in use. Give people a taste of your world, but as well as this, reflect their world. Consider using Instagram Stories, where you can post recorded videos, still photos, live videos etc. As with most platforms liking, mentioning and commenting is a simple way to connect with other users. Also the use of hashtags is again a great way to help your target audience to find content. YouTube - Since its launch in 2005, YouTube has become the goto platform for video content (YouTube has 2 billion monthly active users*). Nearly 500 hours of video are uploaded every minute! A key thing to think about is your audiences age? (71% of people aged between 26-35 use it*).
Tumblr media
If you're going to create content, try and think about what are the sorts of YouTube videos you watch, why do you watch them, what makes them keep you engaged to the end? Remember though, a regular YouTube viewer only spending on average, 11 minutes and 43 seconds per day* on the platform, so it's best to keep content on the short side. As well as the usual likes, links and commenting, think about creating playlists - organise (yours or others) content through a list (perfect for retail or services). Another way to help grow your channel is to share videos regularly on your other media. TikTok - this is a relative new kid on the block. Launched in China in 2016 is is now one of the fasted growing social platforms in the world. With an audience now of more than 800,000,000 active users (yes, that is 800 Million) TikTok's mission is “to capture and present the world’s creativity, knowledge, and precious life moments, directly from the mobile phone. TikTok enables everyone to be a creator, and encourages users to share their passion and creative expression through their videos.” Bascally, TikTok is about making and viewing video content. Creativity and individuality are key. Videos can be uploaded or created from within the app, with users also having the option to live stream. From within the app users can add visual filters, time effects, transitions, stickers, emojis, and much more.
Tumblr media
The target audience really is the under 30's (Roughly 50% of TikTok’s global audience is under the age of 34 with 26% between 18 and 24). Marketing was slow to jump on the TikTok band wagon, but now brands like Nike, Pepsi, Lush (already having 117k followers) and Skittles have open accounts. It has even got to a point where online giants: Buzzfeed are recruiting youngsters to cover the US elections on TikTok! The good news is that if you're going to create content, there most definitely an audience, though it may be in India (which accounts for 43% of new TikTok users) or China (in 2019 80% of the time spent on the platform was from Chinese users). However this is a platform with is still growing, get in there early and you could reap the rewards. As with other social media, make sure your content is fun or if your brand can stand it - outrageous. Take full advantage of the in built advertising possibilities: Infeed native content (like in snapchat), Hashtag challenges (takes some of the stress out of building a hashtag following), Brand takeovers (take over the TikTok for the day) or Branded lenses (like the 2d and 3D lenses within Snapchat). Reddit - First off, Reddit dislikes marketers. That said, if you can find a way to market to the mainly male audience it can reap rewards. There are only two reasons someone goes to Reddit: to get information or to have fun. And they go there in their droves. Reddit has 85 Million global monthly users, with 64% of them under the age of 30. One thing that will help is to chose a 'subreddit' that links to what you do and get to know the users there. Ask a question, be helpful or just make people laugh, but become part of that community. The more you get to know them and the more they get to know you the better relationships you’ll build and the more attention your business will receive. It's a tough audience, but could be great in the long run.
Tumblr media
Quora - is basically a site where people ask and answer questions. These questions could be anything, from the serious: What is the impact of logo design on brand recognition?, to the abstract: What does the Coke logo mean?. Everything has to be one of the two. With more than 300 million unique visitors every month, Quora is a weighty platform. In some ways the same as Reddit, Quora relies on an upvoting system. The more people that upvote your answer, the more exposure your answer gets. The great thing about Quora is that every answer is searchable through Google, allowing your answers to link back to your website. The thought leadership opportunities in this platform are immense.
Tumblr media
What next?
Well, the above are only a few of the platforms out there. Really which ones you go for is up to you. Have a look around each platform, see if there are other companies that are like yours visible, see if the tope of people that you see as your audience are visibly engaging on the platform. See the sort of content that's being produced. This will help you come up with content of your own. Make it as original as possible and make sure it 'feels' like your brand. Remember though, companies may have a whole team behind their posts - so don't be too hard on yourself. Think of your audience, make a plan, and where possible stick to it - plans are always meant to be broken though - so be flexible and think on your feet! The Top 3 Reasons Consumers Read Blogs in 2020 [New Research]
In 2020, there’s no question of whether or not blogs generate leads.
In fact, marketers who prioritize blogging as a marketing strategy report 13-times the ROI of companies that don’t.
Tumblr media
However, many marketers still worry that blogging’s effectiveness could be losing steam.
Fears that “blogging is dead” haven’t been eased by research. Recently, when we polled over 300 people to ask them how often they read blogs, roughly 40% said “never.” This followed HubSpot’s 2020 State of Marketing Report, which revealed that blogging fell from the first to third-most-common content strategy between 2018 and 2020.
But, before you get wrapped up in all the negative data, it’s important to remember that blogging is still incredibly valuable to marketers — but the way you approach blogging matters more than ever. And, while our past survey found that 40% of people never read blogs, it conversely revealed that 60% of consumers read this content regularly.
The truth is, blogging is alive and well. You’ll just need to work a tiny bit harder to persuade people to read your content in 2020.
So, what’s one way to get into a consumer’s head and figure out how to motivate them to read your blog? Performing another survey.
Rather than asking more than 300 people, “Do you read blogs?”, I launched a second Lucid survey that more deeply asked, “Why do you most commonly read blog posts?”
In the survey, which asked participants to select the most common reason that they consume blog content, answer options included, “To learn how to do something new,” “To be entertained,” “To learn more about products or brands,” and “To learn about news and trends in my job industry.”
With the number of leads that business blogs are known to generate, you might assume that a large chunk of people read blogs to learn about brands or products. But, actually, you might be surprised — and a little concerned — by the highest and lowest-ranking reasons for blog readership:
In fact, only four percent of consumers say they read blogs to learn about brands or products.
According to the results of the survey, more people are actually driven to read blogs that teach them how to do something new. While 34% selected this reasoning, 20% said they read blogs to be entertained, while 12% read blogs to learn about news or trends in their job industry.
Additionally, 9% said they’re driven to read blogs for all of the reasons given.
Tumblr media
Data Source: Luc.id
What exactly do the results above mean?
To win over blog readers, you’ll need to create content that provides some type of informative value or entertainment, rather than purely using your blog to discuss your brand or product.
In this blog post, I’ll walk you through the top three reasons why the general consumer population is driven to read blogs. I’ll also show you how to create blog content that fulfills your reader’s needs while still subtly spreading brand awareness.
3 Reasons People Read Blogs
1. People read blogs to learn something new.
By far, the most common reason that people will read a blog post is to learn something new. This result doesn’t surprise me at all.
Why? Posts that include guides, step-by-step processes, tutorial videos, or fast-facts often gain a large amount of search traffic. This is because people are looking up instructions for how to do things on Google every day.
Even when posts aren’t informing people of how to do something on a granular level, blogs that discuss complex topics such as studies, trends, or topics people are less familiar with can pique a person’s curiosity.
Psychologically, people crave new information similarly to how they crave food. As a blogger, you can harness this to create content that both piques curiosity, while discussing topics related to your brand, service, or products.
For example, on the Marketing Blog, we might show our readers how to publish an Instagram Story. By doing this, marketers or social media users who want to learn how to do this could find our content in search or on social media and read it to learn how to create this content.
On a broader scope, our blog might create multiple pieces of content that discuss a trend from multiple angles. For example, when the app TikTok emerged, we wrote a few blog posts to answer common marketer questions like, “What is TikTok?”, “How do brands market themselves on TikTok?”, or “How do you leverage influencer marketing on TikTok?”
Aside from helping our readers, guide or trend-related blogs allow us to highlight the level of research and knowledge we’ve gained as marketers. This could also demonstrate to a prospect that HubSpot is a credible company that sells quality products within the marketing industry.
2. People read blogs to be entertained.
While people crave knowledge, they also like to be entertained. Each day, people might read blogs that tell interesting stories, make them laugh, or intrigue them in some other way.
But, as a business blogger, You might be asking yourself, “How can I entertain my readers while still keeping my blog professional?”
The truth is, when you think creatively, there are a number of ways you can entertain your audience while still staying on brand.
For example, you could create a fun infographic or photo post about a viral trend in your industry, While your readers might not be willing to invest in this viral trend, the imagery and information about the trend might entertain them. In one of our posts, we highlighted funny memes that marketers used in their actual campaigns.
Alternatively, you could also create a fun, but informative, video or podcast to go with your blog post. With this added layer of content, you could dive deeper into discussing a viral marketing trend, or interview an industry expert that people in your field follow. While this might not be “entertaining” for people outside of your industry, it might be more interesting than the average blogs people in your field might be reading.
Here’s an example of a blog post that combines text and video for a better reader experience:
Tumblr media
3. People read blogs to learn about trends related to their job industry.
While people might not be interested in reading blogs that specifically discuss your product or brand, they could be more intrigued by a blog that discusses an industry your product is affiliated with.
While the poll result noted in the introduction came from general consumers with mixed professional backgrounds, it’s likely that those in the workforce will read a blog if it educates them or provides them with valuable information about their industry.
One example of a brand that discovered how industry experts read its industry-themed blog is American Scientist. Recently, the science blog conducted a study to learn about what motivated its blog readers to visit its site. They found that the average reader was either highly educated in science and technology or was actively working in STEM fields.
American Scientist also discovered that these readers, who already had some expertise on the topic, weren’t interested in general science news. They were actually interested in reading the American Scientist blog for specific “nuggets” of new scientific information, studies, or findings.
From the above study, and what we’ve learned when developing HubSpot’s Marketing, Sales, and Service blogs, industry experts or professionals will read blogs to learn something more specific about their industry. Here’s an example of one of our own high-performing blog posts where an industry thought leader discusses the ins and outs of organic growth.
Tumblr media
To zone in on your particular industry, experiment with tactics like thought leadership, similarly to the post noted above. You can additionally write about news or trends related to your field. For example, here’s a post where we discussed how a third-party cookie phaseout could impact marketers.
Creating Content That Fulfills Multiple Reader Needs
So, how do you create engaging content that pulls in audiences with all different reading motivations while still spreading brand awareness about your product or service? Consider publishing blog posts that combine industry trends, how-tos, and entertainment. After all, nine percent of the survey recipients polled above said they read blogs for all of the reasons on the list I gave.
Here are two examples of how you can create content that fulfills the interests of multiple groups of blog readers.
Teach your readers how to do something in your industry.
At the HubSpot Blog, each of our posts teaches readers about something specific. For example, the post you’re currently reading highlights the research we’ve done about how people read blogs and shows you how to leverage these results.
In other posts, we’ll also inform marketers by giving them a step-by-step guide to a marketing tactic or examples of how brands leverage promotional trends. Regardless of what we write about, we’re always trying to teach readers something valuable.
When you create content that educates people about strategies related to your industry, it’s also easier to subtly discuss your product in a way that doesn’t seem shameless of over promotional.
For example, when we’re discussing a strategy that HubSpot can help with, we might subtly link readers to a tool or resource we offer that can help them. Here’s an example of a HubSpot mention in a post about form building tools:
Tumblr media
We also like to include free offers related to our content at the end of each blog post. When we do this, a reader can learn more about the topic we’ve just taught them about. And, when they fill out a simple form requesting the free resource, they can choose whether or not they’d like to be contacted about one of our products. This allows the reader to feel like they are receiving valuable information without being forced to learn about our products.
Tumblr media
Even when you don’t specifically acknowledge a product, an industry blog focused on informing readers can show off your company’s level of expertise. When your brand is seen as highly knowledgeable about your industry, readers might think that your products were also created by your staff of industry experts.
Entertain industry readers while still informing them.
Even though an industry blog will likely target company employees or leaders, this doesn’t mean your content can’t be informative and entertaining. For example, you can use videos, GIFs, imagery, or interactive blog assets to add to your content while keeping it interesting for the reader.
For example, you could consider embedding a trivia or personality quiz related to your industry, as we did in this blog post:
Tumblr media
On occasion, you could also create a fun, suitable for work posts that your industry readers can relate to. For example, here’s a Service Blog post where we highlight GIFs related to working on a customer service floor:
Tumblr media
Entertaining blog content on an industry blog can similarly show off your expertise. But, importantly, this content also allows your reader to relate to your brand on a more human level.
Building an Effective Blog Strategy
While it can be great to run with one successful content type, the blogs with the most credibility and quickest growth often have a mix of content that entertains or informs readers, makes them aware of brands or products, or teaches them something new. And, with 9% of consumers in the poll above saying that they’ll read blogs for “all” reasons listed, there’s a good chance that a mix will intrigue and fulfill the reading needs of multiple different groups.
