Intro post!
Hi!
My name is Marie ( unfortunately after the disney cat, not Lisa Marie… • ᴖ • ) I’m from Eastern Europe and I’m almost 16. If you couldn’t tell, I adore Priscilla Presley and became obsessed with her after reading Elvis and Me!
Some of the things I like are: Lana del Rey, Elvis Presley, Blondie, old Hollywood, reading and collecting cds and vinyls ( just found Elvis: Back in Nashville irl!)
I’m looking forward to meeting people and posting about things!!

Corpse Queen (v1-6)
/== Table of Contents ==/
Neo was unsure of what to do. Right after bringing, Blondie back to the safe house, he proceeded to sit down with his back against a wall, and close his eyes. A Purple circle surrounded him shortly thereafter. So that left Neo with nothing really to do. She was promised answers after Blondie has a rest, so until he woke up, she was on her own.
She considered having something to eat, but didn’t really feel hungry, so she sat on the couch and stared at the TV. Neo hadn’t even turned it on, and just sat there, at least, for two minutes before hopping up and rushing to her private room. Closing and locking the door, she then moved over to her bed. Lifting the corner of her mattress, she pulled out her secret prized possession.
An autographed copy of Weiss Schnee’s last album. Putting the CD into her player, she turned up the volume and forwarded through the various songs until she found her favorite. “Mirror, Mirror” flowed out of the speakers, and Neo closed her yes letting the music flow over her… and then she did something she had only dreamed of. She began to sing along.
/==/
“I still don't believe it.” Jaune moaned as he dropped his face into his hands. “I was trying, really trying, and then…”
“Death comes to everyone, many when they least expect it.” Morrigan, “What is the puzzle in all this is WHY you were killed, and also WHY when I took control of your body your soul was drawn back into it.”
“Why does it matter? My life had gone to shit, and now it’s over.” Jaune sniffled, the weight of everything crushing down on him, breaking any inner strength he had held on to. “The fog was lifting, and I was thinking of returning to Beacon… and then this.”
“Fog? Explain?”
“While I was walking around, trying to decide what to do… things began to become clear again… like less fuzzy and more in focus. I was seeing things and feeling strange about what I was trying to remember.”
“And what were you trying to make sense of?”
“Why I walked away from Beacon. I knew I was weak, but I wanted more than anything to be a huntsman. To help people, and be a hero… and I just throw my team and my chance away?” Jaune replied, as he looked up from his hands, with red rimmed eyes. “It makes no sense… just as puzzling was how my friends were acting.”
“How was that puzzling?”
“They were acting, I don’t know… apathetic to me… when they never had before.”
“I see.” Morrigan reached up and tapped her left index finger against her plump lips. “Tell me. Are there individuals with magic, or supernatural powers in this world?”
“Well, magic… no, but Huntsmen and Huntresses have Aura which is used to power semblances. I guess you could call that… supernatural.”
“I see.” Morrigan rose from her seat and descended the steps from the raised area she had been seated upon. She approached Jaune and using a single finger raised his head to look into her black eyes. “There seems to be many questions surrounding you, Jaune… and I would like answers to them… however…”
“However?” Jaune asked.
“We need to decided what to do about our current situation. While we can share this body, in time my soul would subsume yours, and you would cease to be.” Morrigan removed her finger from under his chin. “Though that would take years… I would much rather have you move on, but there are other options.”
“Like?”
“I locate another fresh body near death, and either transplant your soul or mine into it.” Morrigan tapped her lips while she considered options. “I could also find a suitable host and rip their soul free, and take over.”
“No! You can’t!”
“Why? It would solve…”
“No! It’s bad enough you took my body, I’m not allowing you to just take someone else’s!”
“It is of no…”
“I said no! I may not have a choice in the matter, but this is my body, and I’m not letting you do that!”

last night my guitarist and i went to waffle house after our miserable practice. we put a five in the jukebox and basically held it hostage for more than an hour. i guess heart of glass by blondie is our song now. the employees have gotten attached to us and our server straight up asked me for a ride home. i love waffle house so goddamn much.
we had our gigs today. the punk band sounded kinda shitty but that’s alright. it’s all on the new guitarist, but he’s a decent kid. i met his dad today and suddenly i’m feeling protective over the bastard now that i know what his parent is like. he wrote a riffs for an original song that we played, and i put lyrics about identity to it.
apparently our drummer lied to us and is actually on vacation. man i fucking trusted her. she said she had a family emergency and we did everything to cover for her, and i even had to play fucking drums on one of the songs because our fill in drummer didn’t know how to play it and i did. i sang while playing drums and let me just say, never again. jesus. christ. it definitely sounded like shit and i have blisters.
at least the band has a bunch of followers on insta purely because of the outrageous name.
OH AND the hot bassist from the prog rock band we share the stage with is interested in joining our metal band. fucking SCORE. she’s so insanely talented and i actually met her on tumblr before i met her in person and she started talking and i was like waiiit a minute. are you?? that one person i know on tumblr???? and she was so shocked but she WAS. fucking wild. now i can sing without playing bass for that band, because i can’t stand still in front of a mic while singing metal shit. it’s fucking impossible. “stevie you gotta eat the mic” FUCK OFF im jamming around and don’t have a hand free to keep the mic directly by my mouth.
i guess we gotta initiate her. which means watching rocky horror together, going to waffle house, and putting a dollar in the jukebox to play heart of glass.
my favorite kiddo showed up at the show. she isn’t even in the band anymore and she still wanted to see it. she’s welcome to come back whenever, she’s the randy to my ozzy. scrawny little blonde guitar god who writes solos that don’t make much musical sense but sound AMAZING and i’m very attached to her. you know that shit ozzy said about “either he’s the best fucking thing i’ve ever heard in my life or these drugs are really good”?? yeah.
i found out that she got a LEAD ROLE in a musical, talented little brat. she also gave me a birthday gift which i TOLD HER not to, but it’s candy, little squishy toy dinosaurs (which are getting their own shelf in the trailer but i’m not telling her. her ego is big enough), and a note that she wouldn’t let me read. i did the same shit with her gift so i don’t blame her. after the gig, i read it in the parking lot and fucking cried. i love her so goddamn much. she wrote about how she’s so glad i stayed with her even though she left the band, how we have been through some crazy shit but she didn’t mind because we were together, and how we have a bunch of adventures and mini cupcakes in our future. when i picked her up last time, we bought a dozen cupcakes from target and fucking devoured them in the parking lot. she ended it with “i love you man. from your little brat, ____” and when i tell you i had to turn off my dio cd?? to catch my fucking breath?????
god.
my catholic grandparents came to see it which i wasn’t very happy about. i intended to pull a bunch of stunts to piss off the guy who manages the school / studio we practice in, but my nervous ass completely skipped over it all trying to rush to get the set done. i only got in like two jabs when i’ve composed original music about how much of a dick he is. disappointing. i had SO MUCH blackmail AND mocking material.
i’m gonna put our shit on instagram. goodnight tumblr.

7: A song to drive to
Missing Piece by Vance Joy
(I always play this when driving to Austin)
8: A song about drugs or alcohol
Hallucinogenics by Matt Maeson feat. Lana Del Ray
(Self explanatory; the verses about Seattle, "crawl back to the life that I said I wouldn't live in," and "find yourself a man who's [...] Christian" really hit. I like the version with Lana Del Ray a lot but I fell in love with Matt Maeson's original when it played on The Spectrum radio)

11: A song that you never get tired of

El Dorado by Thomas Bergerson, Two Steps from Hell (been obsessed with this song since 2008, so obviously this one is here)

14: A song that you would love played at your wedding
jordan by Joy Oladokun (the ex christian themes aside as they're a bag of worms I won't get into but are also why I love this song; the whole "building our own promised land" and "now I've found love there's no turning back"?? That's just the chorus?? The vibes I want at my secular wedding)
15: A song that is a cover by another artist
Smells Like Teen Spirit by Saint Mesa (I like this one better than Nirvana's original and I do like the original)
16: One of your favorite classical songs
Waltz of the Flowers by Pyotr Illyich Tchaikovsky (from the Nutcracker but also the Fantasia animation was excellent and imprinted on my imagination forever)
17: A song that you would sing a duet with on karaoke
Lemons by Bri feat. Cavetown (I really like it, it's a song about an emotionally abusive relationship that just really slaps)
18: A song from the year you were born
The Way by Fastball (also imagine blorbos to this one - a bunch of old people who play DnD and disappear from their retirement home together to go fight a dragon as the last hurrah with lots of unreality)
19: A song that makes you think about life
5AM by Amber Run ("We run into a dark room / And we spasm to the sounds / of a copy of Morrissey / or the Blues of the Deep South" anyone?)

September Again by Nation of Language (...yeah. sometimes it's about growing up, sometimes it's about growing old, sometimes it's about feeling lost, sometimes it's a love song)
21: A favorite song with a person’s name in the title
Brian is the Most Beautiful by Memo Boy (I like atmospheric deep house type songs ya know)
22: A song that moves you forward
Difference Maker by NEEDTOBREATHE (when I just want to give up and the S/I is really bad this song is a comfort; it both meets me where I am in the hopelessness and gives me hope to keep going)
23: A song that you think everybody should listen to
Laika by Wil Wagner (about the titular character, Laika, the first dog in space; it's
... an experience. You'll need tissues for this one)
24: A song by a band you wish were still together
Losing my Religion by R.E.M. (I was going to put MCR but they recently got back together?? So R.E.M.)
25: A song by an artist no longer living
Yellow Submarine by John Lennon, Paul McCartney (John Lennon composed this one, it's fun. He was assassinated as you all know)
26: A song that makes you want to fall in love
Heaven Knows by Five For Fighting (I heard this song after reading In Love by Amy Bloom, about her husband getting medically assisted suicide because of his diagnosis; it's had an impact ever since)

Dancing without Music by BRDGS (Self explanatory, reminds me of several failed relationships and why)

Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me) by Train (I would play this on repeat on the CD in the car every chance I got as a kid, usually when my parents would go to Safeway for groceries and I didn't want to go inside;; I have a very specific memory of being in a parking lot in Seattle at night listening to this on repeat)
30: A song that reminds you of yourself
Hurry Hurry by Air Traffic Controller (this is a song about my life with ADHD I stg)

Screaming Skin [Blondie], I found that CD somewhere for free I think and it just kinda tickles my brain the right way when I'm feeling down.
Sleep Walking Orchestra [BUMP OF CHICKEN], the 1st dungeon Meshi OP. It's just so good! I love it. It just cheers me up.
Bicycle Race [Queen], duh. It's Queen.
Lilias [Rachel Newton/Lauren MacColl], Scottish folk music. This and a bunch of other songs are based on the witch trials. Just an awesome combo of violin and harp.
The Ost from Professor Layton and the eternal Diva [Tsuneyoshi Saitou I think?], IT'S JUST EPIC.

The Ledge #638: The Hudson Basement Excavation Project
If you follow me on the various social media platforms (paulisded) you've probably seen a variety of pictures with the tagline "The Hudson Basement Excavaton Project". A little explanation is needed. Decades ago, my son needed a rack to store his records as he had followed in the old man's footsteps and put together his own sizable library. As I did not at that point even own a turntable, my records were all boxed up and stored in the basement.
A few years later, home renovatons meant that these boxes were joined by more boxes of CD's, books, magazines, and other junk that needed to be moved out of the way of new carpet and paint. The original boxes of records were now buried. When I returned to vinyl a decade ago, I had a feeling that somewhere there just had to be a bunch of albums. I mean, come on. I would never sell or give away Replacements records, right?
This feeling carried on whenever I saw a good stash of used records at local stores, or when a classic album was reissued. There just has to be records somehwere/anywhere! I would take tentative searches while doing laundry from time to time, but just a few weeks ago I hit the jackpot. I found some good ol' Taco Bell shredded lettuce boxes. You may laugh at that, but those were the perfect boxes to store records. And sure enough, as I moved other boxes around, and squeezed in between other barriers (old lawn furniture, etc.) it was indeed what I've been looking for. One great box of vinyl, with another couple right next to it. A few weeks later there was another discovery!
So tonight's show is all about some of the gems discovered during this process. Some are quite rare. Others could be pretty easily found in most good used stores. But it' sover two hours of fantastic old faves from the 70s, 80s, and even a couple from the 90s!

38?
38. talk about songs that remind you of certain people
oh this is a good one I have so many.
first one that comes to mind is this song that my aunt sings when shes doing stuff, she goes 'dooo be doo be doo'. I always thought it was 'strangers in the night' by sinatra, but i realised recently i could be Baloo's scatting from the Jungle Book: shes looked after a lot of kids throughout her life.
another good close friend always went 'hey, ho, here she goes' from robbie williams 'candy', but shes not that good with english and could never remember the rest of the song.
there was an unlikable sod called Connor who i found myself hanging out with a lot because of mutual friends, and would always tease me with that song, idk the title, but it goes 'my life is like a videogame', you know the one.
My sister played a lot of MCR when we were going through school (shes 2 years older than me, so, same school) and was woken up by 'teenagers' a lot, and drew up a hatred for the song 😬
i knew a boy called Ben in my peak drinking years who was very into the English party culture, and every party i went to with him, he played 'mr brightside' at some point. You hear it at every party over here, but he always kickstarted it. I do hope he's doing alright, he was a bit of a druggie, and didnt keep very good company imo.
im not in contact with him now, but every barbequeue or whatever, my dad would play his ub40 cd on his decades old stereo, and you could garuantee you'd hear 'red wine'.
My old mate Tom was the worlds biggest youngest fan of The Who, similarly another friend was into Blondie. 'baba o riley' and 'atomic' remind me of those two. She cheated on him though.
my music tastes really grew around my family because i never really liked what theyd play, and my mum would play a lot of arctic monkeys when I was young, and if I had to pick one, 'i bet you look good on the dancefloor' would take it. I heard that one a lot: it was the ringtone of her old sony Ericsson.
i love the subconscious associations we make with people people and music :)

Wednesday, 13 December 2023:
The Unsustainable Library Bundle II (1 of 15)
No Exit Blondie (Beyond/ BMG) (released in 1999)
First, Today I was tasked with straightening up the three CD shelves (which are actually giant bookshelves) at the Friends of The Library's sale room. In doing so, I found things like Badfinger's Magic Christian Music and two of Yoko Ono's 1990s albums in the Christian music section, so I not only made it all look pretty, I was able to put all artists in the category they best belonged. And in touching and looking at every single CD, of course, I ended up with another stack of CDs. This is an unsustainable action, I cannot keep bringing home stacks of used CDs that cost a buck each. It sounds fun, but suddenly in two weeks I've marched home with a grand total of 35 new (used) CDs. Not only will I run out of room (I just emptied my shelves of things I didn't need on my shelves) but when the devil can I take the time to hear these 35 CDs?
Some have an immediate timeline, like this album, Blondie's second album after 1982's The Hunter. I'm going to be listening to Blondie's 70s-80s catalog and I toyed with the idea of just throwing caution to the wind and doing their entire studio output but I changed my mind when I discovered that meant roughly an additional eight albums. Now that I own this album, suddenly it seems I'm going full tilt over Blondie next year. Maybe.
Above you see the front of the CD and the back. The back is taken out of the jewel case because I forgot to clean the jewel case with Windex before shooting the photos and I was too lazy to march downstairs and retrieve the glass cleaner and paper towels. I'll ensure the next ones are clean. Although I do like seeing the back clearer than via a reflective jewel case. I'm shooting these upstairs in the music room because it is too cold to do it outside (the wind is the problem, not so much the temperature).
Below is the gatefold of the jewel case showing the back of the booklet with the CD on the spindle. The second photo shows it with the CD gone as well as the inlay tray. The inlay tray's spindle prohibited you from seeing what the image is on the inside of the back insert.
The CD closes out the entry.

🎶❌💞💖
Thank ya!!
🎶 Do you listen to music while you write? What song have you been playing on loop lately? -I am one of those terrible "write in total silence" people haha! I have all the admiration for people who not only write fics but have whole playlists for the vibes they were going for--it's just not the way my brain works at all. I've got MCR and Blondie CDs playing on a loop in my car for my commute to and from the archives everyday, though
❌ What's a trope you will never write? -Ooh interesting! I would probably never write a bdsm universe fic - I'm perfectly happy to read and write about kink, but the idea of a whole world where those roles are somehow things people are born into seems to remove a lot of the more agentic and interesting elements of kink that (to me personally) are deeply important. I'm sure there are people out there doing interesting things to subvert the trope, though!
💞 Who's your comfort character? -Hmm that's a good question! I don't know if I have one? I definitely have some comfort fics, but I think I more have characters that delight me than that bring comfort, if that makes sense. Like Deborah is, for me, a character that I delight in watching and spending time with in fic (both writing and reading), but she's definitely not a comfort character haha
💖 What made you start writing? -I discovered fanfic kind of late--I was already doing my master's, and I happened to stumble on one of those autostraddle fic rec lists after watching all of buffy (also late to the party on that one)--and I was just...enthralled. Like, holy shit, there are people out here who are doing this very cool thing for free for communities of people online?!? And my discovery of fandom and fic happened to line up with the time Supergirl S1 was airing, and soon enough I found myself thinking: wait, I think there's a story I want to tell that no one else has yet...maybe I'll try. And voila! Here we are!

MIXTAPE #4 (15/08/22)
Rapture - Blondie
Album: Autoamerican
Year: 1980
Track: Single (Post-Release: 1981)
As I’ve said before, I don’t collect vinyl due to it being a costly hobby, but I do like having physical media, and so I’ve amassed a sizable collection of CDs. This is thanks, in no small part, to MusicMagpie’s 4 for £8 offer. And so whilst I was in Australia, in addition to the stack I brought home with me, I also ordered around 10 CDs that were waiting at home for me upon my arrival, one of which was Blondie’s Greatest Hits. It’s a fantastic compilation, and whilst listening through, I realised, for the first time, just how long Rapture is. Also whilst in Australia, my girlfriend and I did karaoke to this song, because she knows the entire rap off by heart. After she had shown off her rapping skills, we skipped to the next track, and I think that may be why I never realised how long this song is - all anyone ever remembers is the rap. To be fair, it is the best part.
-
They’ll Soon Discover - The Shins
Album: The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Music from the Movie and More...
Year: 2004
Track: Album Track
As a kid, I was never that big into Spongebob. I liked it, and I’d quite happily watch it, but only if there wasn’t anything better on Cartoon Network. But as a kid, I did really connect with the movie. And it’s a fantastic animated movie - just a couple years back I rewatched it with a couple of friends, and not only does it still hold up, but some of the gags I genuinely found hilarious. The standout for me was when Dennis the Bounty Hunter takes off his sunglasses to investigate something, only for there to be an identical pair of sunglasses under them, which he leaves on. A joke funnier in execution than description for sure, but it’s a great film, with a surprisingly great soundtrack. The soundtrack has contributions from such a range of artists, including Avril Lavigne, The Flaming Lips, Wilco and Mötorhead, as well as songs from the film performed by the characters’ original voice actors. This Shins track has got to be my favourite off the soundtrack, although I’m pretty sure it never made it into the film proper.
-
Scarlet [The War on Drugs Remix] - The Rolling Stones feat. Jimmy Page
Album: Goats Head Soup (2020 Reissue)
Year: 2020
Track: Single (Pre-Release: 2020)
I’m sure I’ve said it on here before, but I’ll say it again, I love odd, obscure songs. And my favourite odd, obscure songs are collaborations between artists that A) you wouldn’t expect, or B) just had no clue existed. This track falls into both categories, and - as a bonus - is a three-way collaboration. After recording a set with Led Zeppelin back in 1974, guitarist Jimmy Page stuck around and recorded a few tracks with the next band booked in for that day - you guessed it, The Rolling Stones. This fun, classic rock ditty went unreleased until 2020, as it was deemed “not a Rolling Stones song”, and when it finally was released, it was remixed by both The Killers and The War on Drugs. Anyone from the UK under 40 would know The Killers - no party or club night is complete without an appearance from Mr. Brightside, but The War on Drugs I had become familiar with after my girlfriend recommended Lost In the Dream to me. I think that their remix of this track is the best version released, with this version feeling the most lively and energetic.

Into My Arms - Nell Smith & The Flaming Lips
Album: Where the Viaduct Looms
Year: 2021
Track: Album Track
Speaking of odd collaborations, in my aforementioned Australia CD stack was The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends, an album consisting of collaborations between The Flaming Lips and an assortment of eclectic artists, including Ke$ha, Bon Iver, Tame Impala, Nick Cave and Yoko Ono. The standout on the album for me was the inappropriately titled but surprising sweet sounding “Helping the Retarded to Know God”, which featured Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes. However, I can’t put that track in this playlist, as the album isn’t on Spotify in my region, and so I’m going with a different weird Flaming Lips collab. This album by relative unknown Nell Smith is a Nick Cave tribute album that features The Flaming Lips as her backing band on every track. This song, as well as Chain Reaction by Joy Downer feat. Beck, makes me wonder how these unknown artists manage to work with such well known, established artists. They have the talent, no doubt, but what was the impetus for the collab? Same record label? Knowing a guy who knows a guy who knows Wayne Coyne? It seems odd to me, but I’m not complaining.

Sugar Water - Cibo Matto
Album: Viva! La Woman
Year: 1996
Track: Album Track
I’m you’re a big ol’ nerd like I am, you may be aware that the Saturday just gone was the August 2022 Pokemon Go Community Day! My girlfriend got me playing whilst we were isolating with Covid, and ever since I’ve been absolutely hooked, so much so that I’ve committed to participating in every Community Day and to completing every special event research and all that stuff. And so on Saturday, I spent 11am to 2pm roaming about a local park, catching hundreds of Galarian Zigzagoons, and whilst doing so, I listened to a few albums, including this one. I was introduced to Cibo Matto through Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the best television show of all time), when this track was performed live at The Bronze. I then encountered Cibo Matto again whilst listening to the Jet Set Radio soundtrack, which features Birthday Cake (also off of this album). Having enjoyed both tracks, I began diving into their records starting with Stereo Type A, and then moving onto this, their debut album. Both albums showcase such a range of musical styles, whilst always feeling fun and interesting, and this album in particular feels so cohesive - the theme of food is so prevalent throughout, it almost feels like a concept album.
-
Goody Two Shoes - Adam Ant
Album: Friend or Foe
Year: 1982
Track: Single (Pre-Release: 1982)
Also whilst in Australia, my girlfriend and I began watching The Umbrella Academy together. She had already seen it, and, me being an aspiring TV writer, she wanted to see what I made of it - she knew I enjoyed superhero shows, and she said that the soundtrack would be right up my alley. Having finished the first season together, I think the season is pretty awful - boring main characters (Five excluded), clichéd plots, and metric tonnes of missed opportunities - but I’ll tell you what, she was right about the soundtrack. Netflix went all out with the licenced tracks for the show, with the likes of The Kinks, They Might Be Giants, Queen and Nina Simone all being heard in just the first few episodes. Unfortunately the stacked music line-up doesn’t make up for the subpar writing, with the most egregious decision to be giving Klaus major character development off-screen, inbetween episodes! Would it have been so hard to cut some of the filler from the other episodes (perhaps the entirety of The Day That Wasn’t?) and dedicate an episode to showing Klaus’ growth and his falling in love with David in Vietnam, giving him a focused character development episode all to himself, a la Buffy’s The Zeppo?

I Just Threw Out the Love of my Dreams - Weezer
Album: “The Good Life” single
Year: 1996
Track: B-Side
Whilst going through a very rough breakup a few years back, there were a few albums I’d listen to on repeat, and Pinkerton was one of them. I loved the Blue Album when I first heard it, but it took me a few listens to connect with Pinkerton, but once it hit, it became one of my top ten albums of all time. I loved the sound and the uncomfortably raw and honest lyrics, and so I sought out every Weezer song from that era, before they shaved off any and all honesty for the Green Album. I listened to every Pinkerton b-side, and this track was my favourite of them - in fact, it became one of my all time favourite Weezer songs. And it was such an odd one - a relic of Pinkerton’s former identity, Songs From the Black Hole, with lead vocals not by Rivers Cuomo, but by That Dog’s Rachel Haden. I’d listen to the song, and the title lyric, and I’d wonder if the girl I was no longer with was thinking that about me. And it felt like it was my little song, all for me, in a way. Sure, I shared it with friends, but this obscure, weird little b-side was MY discovery. And then, something happened. I have no idea why or exactly when, but the song became a TikTok meme. I remember my girlfriend showing a TikTok she had found, and saying to me, “recognise the song?” The song blew up for some reason, and is now number seven in Weezer’s top tracks on Spotify, with over ten million listens - a far cry from the almost-million it was at back when I first stumbled upon it. It’s great that such a brilliant and unknown b-side is now receiving the popularity it never got back in ‘96 (not dissimilar to what happened with Harness Your Hopes by Pavement), but alas, what of my pretentious music cred?

rosé flowing with your chosen family
my addition to @spnwomenweek ☼ day 2: family | read on ao3
“Claire,” Kaia says softly, placing her hand on Claire’s shoulder. “This is your family, what are you so worried about?”
Claire sighs, unsure of what exactly is so nerve wracking about walking into a house filled with her loved ones. Her back is resting against the side of her beat up station wagon, one sneaker kicking uselessly at the gravel under her feet and Kaia is looking at her with those concerned eyes that make her stomach knot up with guilt.
In front of her, past the somewhat wild front lawn, is Sam and Eileen’s new home, where their family is gathered for a last minute housewarming party. Sam and Eileen had put in an offer a few days after their wedding back in March, eager to get out of the dingy bunker and begin their life as a married couple. Claire was happy for them, Sam deserved a life of domesticity, just as Cas and Dean did.
It was weird, those first few weeks after the Winchsesters had defeated Chuck, God, whatever. Claire was devastated by the news of Cas being taken by the Empty, she hardly moved from her bed in the days following. Left confused, broken, and grieving an angel who was like her father in more ways than just his appearance. Kaia was supportive, of course, content to cuddle up next to her and run a soothing hand through her hair or convince her to eat a real meal at least once a day.
Before she even had the chance to fully process the loss of Cas, Jack and Dean had rescued him from the Empty. She remembered Jody’s voice calling out to her, she had slid from her bed and padded toward the front door. Claire was shocked to see Cas standing there, normal trench coat and suit traded in for a sweater and jeans, his hand tightly holding Dean’s. The two men had looked at her with concern, probably taking in her wrinkled pajamas, two-day-old bun, and the dark circles under her eyes. She had passed on asking the millions of questions that had flooded her mind in favor of wrapping herself tightly around Cas.
Claire had never been one to show her emotions so viscerally, but in that moment she couldn’t help the tears that quickly rolled down her cheeks. The joy of seeing Cas, when she thought he was gone for good, standing in her living room full of life and having apparently worked out whatever feelings he had for Dean, was overwhelming. Cas held her tightly while Dean ran a soothing hand across her back, and she wept openly for the first time since the Bad Place.
After that, things had returned to normal. Not normal for Claire, because all she had really known for the last few years was hunting, but the kind of normal where she didn’t have to kill monsters or worry that Sam and Dean were off getting themselves in trouble. There weren’t any monsters to hunt anymore, which left her feeling empty and useless for months. Kaia had pulled her out of that, like Kaia always did, and they decided to travel across the country and see the places they had never been able to enjoy before. It was freeing, to be on the open road, enjoying just being alive.
Claire and Kaia often passed through Kansas to visit Cas, Dean, and Jack at their house on the lake or to swing by the bunker to see Sam and Eileen. They never missed a birthday, wedding, or big event. Which is how they found themselves back in Kansas, Jody had called to let them know everyone was getting together for a housewarming party for Sam and Eileen. Her and Kaia had been in Memphis, enjoying barbecue and Blues, so the drive wasn’t too much of a hassle.
“Earth to blondie,” Kaia says, snapping Claire back to the present. “Are we going inside anytime soon? I’m starving, babe.”
Claire clears her throat, “Yeah, sorry. Lost in my head.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
She looks into Kaia’s eyes, the usual soft brown painted with worry, and smiles in hopes it will ease her girlfriend’s concern, “No, I’m good, just overthinking. Let’s go eat.”
Kaia gives her a tentative smile, wrapping her hand around Claire’s and pulling her in for a chaste kiss.
They approach the front door, Claire raises her hand to knock but before her knuckles make contact the door swings open, revealing Sam with a grin spread across his face. He quickly wraps them both up in a hug and pulls them inside the loud and lively house. Claire and Kaia congratulate him on the house before breaking away to greet Jody, Donna, Alex, and Patience.
After hugs are exchanged and road trip updates are given, Claire slips away to the kitchen for a drink and Kaia heads toward Cas and Eileen who are clearly gossiping in ASL in the far corner of the living room.
Claire yanks open the fridge and helps herself to a beer, twisting off the cap and taking a long drink before propping herself against the counter.
“Hello Claire,” Jack says happily from where he’s sitting at the kitchen island, Claire hadn’t even noticed him when she first came in.
“Jack, jeeze, you scared me.”
“My apologies, I didn’t realize you hadn’t seen me.” Jack responds, his hands wrapped around a can of root beer.
“Yeah, I guess I was a little lost in thought.” She says, turning her head toward the door where the sound of Dean’s laughter is filtering through.
There’s a pause then, as Claire contemplates how she ended up here, with this ragtag group of former hunters, angels, and a witch that she calls family. It’s weird, she had always expected her dad to show back up one day and make their family whole again, back when she was young and naive. It’s even weirder, she thinks, that this band of misfits has become a better image of family than she could ever imagine to have with her mother and father. Claire had come to think of herself as a combination of Novak-Winchester-Mills-Hanscum for quite some time now, content to be part of this chosen family.
She still missed her mom and dad, from time to time, wondered what life would have been like if they had stayed with her. Claire never let herself spend too long on that path, knowing that if things had been different she would have never known Jody or Alex, she would never have known Cas, or Sam and Dean, she never would have fallen in love with Kaia. She has a family now; she found a mother in Jody and Donna, Castiel and Dean became her kind-of dads, Sam and Eileen the closest thing she has to an uncle and aunt, Alex and Patience are her sisters, Jack her brother. It’s weird and mismatched, but it’s hers and she wouldn’t trade it for the world.
“Claire,” Jack says, breaking her out of her thoughts. “You seem troubled.”
Claire flashes him a watery smile, suddenly overcome with affection for her perfectly messed up family, “Actually the opposite.”
Jack smiles back at her, a gap-toothed goofy grin, “Oh, I thought you were upset.”
She pushes herself away from the counter, abandoning her beer on the stone surface, and makes her way over to Jack. “Can I tell you something?”
“Of course, Claire, anything.” Jack says, his head tilting up slightly to lock eyes with Claire, who is standing close enough that she’s marginally taller than Jack sitting down.
Claire pulls Jack into a hug, wrapping her arms so tightly around him that her ribs ache, “I love you.”
Jack slowly loops his arms around Claire, resting his cheek against her shoulder, “I love you, too.”
She lets out a wet laugh, giving Jack one final squeeze before pulling away.
“Well,” A gruff voice says from the doorway. “Isn’t that just a sight for sore eyes.”
Claire whips her head around to find Dean lounging against the doorframe, his face soft with a bit of fondness in his eyes.
“Hello Dean,” Jack says, his face still twisted up in a goofy grin.
Dean stalks forward into the kitchen, quickly wrapping the two up in a warm embrace and pressing a kiss to the top of their heads. He pulls away just as quickly as he pulled them in, locking eyes with Claire and giving her a look that conveys all the words he can’t say out loud.
“Jack helped me get a bunch of Sammy’s baby pictures scanned onto a CD and I’m gonna put ‘em up on the TV for everyone, you don't wanna miss it.” Dean says, giving her a gentle pat on the back.
She laughs, “Sounds mortifying, I can’t wait to see Sam’s face.”
“C’mon,” He says, jerking his head toward the living room before turning and heading out the door.
Claire watches him and Jack disappear into the other room, smiling to herself as she snatches up her beer and heads into the chaos. Cas, Kaia, and Eileen are still deep in conversation. Jody and Donna are whispering quietly to each other on the other side of the room. Rowena, Patience, and Alex are pressed together on the couch, a martini glass dangling from Rowena’s hand as she gestures wildly, obviously recounting an insane tale as the other women listen with rapt attention.
She slides in next to Sam, who is leaning against the stairway railing, eyeing Jack and Dean with suspicion as they fiddle with the disc player next to the TV.
“This is a great house, Sammy.”
Sam looks down at her, smiling slightly, “It’s not bad, but it’s the people who really make it home.”
Claire returns his smile, then turns back to the scene in front of her; all her favorite people, the people she loves most in the world, gathered in one room.
Dean always says, family don’t end with blood, something his own stand-in father, Bobby, used to tell him. Claire never met Bobby, but she thinks he might have been onto something.

The marketing genius of @taylorswift
The music icon we praise for her brilliant, honest piercing lyrics, is in fact one of the smartest business woman in the music industry.
Her third studio album (entirely self written) Speak Now sold a million copies as the world turned to streaming platforms like Pandora, Spotify and others.
After her incredible Speak Now World Tour she went back to the studio to continue to expand her musical horizon. This began a cult following of not only purchasing the album, Swifties got a taste for the deluxe version and vinyl was making a come back.
By the time 1989 dropped, the idea of the Polaroids was swept up by fans and the need to collect them all. One physical copy was not enough. We purchased digital copies so we could be the first to listen. After all the benefits to the 1989DLX version came vinyl along with the commitment to national record day.
By the Sixth studio album and pop banger Reputation, blondie was a mastermind. No press, just the tag line “there will be no explanation, only reputation”. Taylor went as far as to create her own magazines and with every purchase fans received a “boost” for the line of tickets for The Reputation Stadium Tour.
Each magazine had a collectible poster and Swifties quickly found themselves proud of all their copies. Vinyl sold so quickly it’s already impossible to find it for a reasonable amount.
The Lover Era brought a brilliant twist and once again showcased how Taylor can inspire fans to buy multiple copies in an exceptional vulnerable way. We got four different versions with diary entries and photos of her growing up. Also, as someone with a car that still has a cassette player, I wound up with seven versions and a hardcore collector. Sadly I missed out on an autographed copy of the CD.
In a time of solitude and crisis, she leaned into her craft and along with help from her family of musicians came Folklore. Naturally the moment it was announced, like many Swifties, I purchased the digital download. Then, she upped the game by offering 8 different, unique physical CD’s & 8 unique vinyls. While my pocket book could not afford them all, this time I would up with 2 autographed copies, 2 different vinyls (gotta have that Target exclusive) , a cassette, and a few different versions on CD.
While many fans have time to process and build up their bank accounts, as the Lover Tour refunds poured in, our hopes for a delayed concert experience shifted and we could invest in the next surprise Evermore. Again, with the same strategy:
Secure digital download
Order a physical copy
Order a Cassette
Order it on Vinyl
2 signed copies
A target exclusive vinyl
Even as many of these recent releases have been available on all platforms, Swifties feel a sense of pride in supporting the physical representation of the art the Taylor continues to fill our hearts with.
And yes, the cycle continues with her re-recorded versions. Scooter Braun & Scott Borchetta should’ve thought twice about screwing with a lyrical genius

TDI guys first time meeting you
Duncan:
He notice you getting another piercing at the piercing/tattoo place while he was getting his piercing also
You caught his eye because you seemed scared getting your septum piercing
After Duncan got finished with his piercing he got up from his chair and walks over to you
“Hey my name is Duncan. You ok?” He said while looking at you. You hear him and smile softly, “My name is y/n, but yeah...just a little nervous first time gettin a nose piercing...so idk if it’s going to hurt or not” looking up at him. Duncan grabs a chair and sits next to you also hearing what’s you’re saying to him. “Well y/n, you can hold my hand while getting one. To make you less nervous if you want” hearing him asking it and you smiled at him and nods. “I would like that very much” chuckles softly. Ever since that day you guys have been together.
Geoff:
He saw you surfing at the beach
He noticed you hitting the big amazing waves
After you finished hitting the waves you walked back on the sand holding your surf board. Geoff got the courage and jogs up to you. “Woww those are nice waves dude” he said smiling. You heard him and smiles “really?? thank you. I see you have a surf board. Are you any good or you just like to have one to seem cool” messing with him. He hears you and fake gasps going along. “I have surfing skills...maybe they’re better than yours” smirks challenging you. You hear him “OH IT’S ON BLONDIE!” races to the water holding your surf board. It’s the beginning of a fun and everlasting relationship.
Trent:
You guys would most likely meet a music store
He was looking for his favorite band and he found it and grabbed the last one and goes to buy it
You came in and you ended looking for the same cd and you didn’t see any so you asked the clerk if there was anymore and sadly they’re wasn’t
Trent over hears you guys and feels kind of bad that you wanted it and he took the last one. Once the clerk told you all the cd’s were sold out you said “Awee man. Well thanks anyway” smiles softly and goes to leave the store. Trent bought the cd and goes after to you. “Wait!!” stopping you. You heard him and looked back “yeah...what is it?” He walks up to you. “So I overheard you and the worker talking about (favorite band) and I realized I bought the last one and you really wanted it so here” gives you it. You was in shocked and smiles “omg...thank you so much. You didn’t have to do this” chuckles softly. Trent smiles “I did. I felt bad so a little gift from me to you and my name Trent btw.” Smiling, “Well Trent want to hang out sometime?” You guys been inseparable ever since.

1. What is the first song you remember hearing?
english songs: either learn to fly by foo fighters or human by the killers, i really cannot remember which one but it was around the same time im pretty sure
spanish songs: ALL the songs on/by rebelde, my sister was super into it when i was a baby so i heard so many of their songs right as i was learning to become a human
2. What is the first band you got into?
mmmmmmm probably one direction? if we’re not counting rebelde lol
3. Do you collect music on any physical format?
i collect almost all cds i know and like on CD and have recently started buying vinyl but i think im only going to get albums i really like on it since its more expensive
4. What is your favourite piece of music-related memorabilia/merchandise?
SO many things. i really like my nirvana and red hot chili peppers shirts because they make me feel cute! im also IN LOVE with the in utero angel sticker i bought on redbubble that has a transparent border so its JUST the angel, i stuck it on my record player and i love it so so much

15. What is your favorite CD/vinyl/cassette that you own in terms of packaging?
THIS ONES SO HARD I LOVE PACKAGING DESIGNS. i love how rhcp’s im with you disc looks like because it has the track list on it but it doesnt look bad like other discs who do that do. booklet design i love vices and virtues by panic at the disco and american idiot by green day. idk what this would fall under but i also love how stadium arcadium’s booklet is held in the case and how when you take it out you see a picture of the band. and there are too many albums whose art i love so i cannot elaborate on that without making this 5xs longer lmao
