Laundry - L. Hughes
Tumblr media
v' bakery pairing: Luke Hughes x fem!reader summary: A bet with your friend helped you to admit your feelings to Luke but he doesn't know about it warning: none
You’ve met Luke in university and something clicked between you two. You couldn’t stop thinking about him and how great he is. You wanted him as someone else rather than just a friend but you weren’t sure if he feels the same. He never showed you that you two might have a chance as a couple.
But Luke was just shy. He really liked you and didn’t want to scare you by throwing himself at you. He thought that it’s too fresh to even think about being a couple, that's why he was waiting for the proper moment. 3 months went by and he still treated you as a friend. You felt heartbroken and your friend could tell that this situation is bugging you.
“Just ask him” Your friend told you.
“What the hell am I supposed to ask him?” You looked at her.
“Ask him out. I don’t know, take him to a diner and just tell him how you feel” She shrugged.
“I can’t. I don’t want to look desperate” You sighed and threw yourself on a bed.
“Okay, let’s do it your way. I bet that you two will end up together after dinner. I’ll do your laundry for the rest of the semester if i’m right” She said knowing that this is the only way to motivate you.
“And what if you’re wrong?” You asked her.
“You’ll be doing my laundry” She smiled at you and you laughed.
“Deal” You shook her hand and texted Luke to ask him to go with you to the diner.
Your friend was right. When you admitted your feelings to Luke, he told you exactly the same thing. You two became a couple after the dinner and nothing could be better. He was your rock and you were his biggest supporter. Something that was scary for him at first, was an incredible experience.
With every day, you two had been stronger than ever. Even when Luke left to play in New Jersey, both of you could feel the love radiating. After his season was finished, you were having your finals and that’s why, he decided to visit you in your dorm instead of going back home. He knocked on your door and your friend opened them.
“Luke, hi” She hugged him.
“Is Y/N there?” Luke asked her.
“She’s in the library but you can wait for her here because I’m leaving. Also your welcome” She said and left the room.
Luke was confused about what she meant by that. He was thinking about it all the time he was in your dorm. After an hour, the door opened and you spotted him sitting on your bed. You threw your bag on the floor and jumped into his arms.
“I missed you” You kissed his cheek.
“I missed you too. I didn’t know you’re now studying in the library” Luke joked.
“I had to go there. My friend was arguing with her parents over the phone and I couldn’t focus so I went there” You told him while still hugging him. “I’m so happy to see you here”
“Can I ask you a question?” You nodded your head. “What did your friend mean by saying your welcome to me?”
You froze in his arms. You completely forgot to tell him that she was the one who made the stupid bet to motivate you to ask him out and tell you about your feelings. You knew you had to tell him the truth but you didn’t want to ruin your relationship. You sat down on the bed next to him and took a deep breath.
“Remember the night when we became a couple?” You asked him carefully.
“Of course. How could I forget?” Luke told you.
“It was kinda a bet with her” You said and Luke looked at you surprised. “But listen, I had feelings for you but I was too scared to tell you about them so she made a bet with me to tell you this. She knew that this will motivate me to finally admit the truth to you”
“So if not her bet, we would still be only friends?” Luke asked you.
“Probably” You told him quietly.
“Well I’m gonna thank her personally” Luke stood up ready to do it. “That was the best thing she ever did”
“I don’t even know where she is. This can wait till tomorrow” You told him shocked that he’s not mad about it. “Everything is fine between us? Because I know how this looks and I will completely understand if you’re mad at me” You said and looked at your hands.
“Look at me” You didn’t react so Luke gently placed his hand under your chin. “I’m not mad. I couldn’t be mad at you, especially if this helped us to be together” Luke placed a kiss on your forehead and you smiled.
“If you want, we can go to the store and buy her something for being the wingman” You proposed and Luke nodded his head. He grabbed your hand and both of you went out to pick flowers and candies for your friend as a thank you.

Hotarubi, Obscuary and Jabberwock ghouls when you confess to them
Haku feels so relieved! You finally caught on and understood he wasn't flirty just because? A miracle! Honestly he's so ready to make you his it's almost funny. If you haven't noticed, that guy has had a thing for you since day one. So yeah. Will definitely want to see you as soon as possible so you can... make out already talk about your situation and possibly start dating.
Tumblr media
Subaru is too sweet and doesn't really want to get his hopes up even if he does like you more than a friend already. He definitely didn't see that coming and feels a little lost. He's happy of course but... What now? What does he do? What if this ends up ruining your friendship? After thinking for a moment he decides to ask you to meet so you can talk about everything going on. Expect a shy blushy Subaru.
Tumblr media
Zenji was hoping for such an outcome in the future, but he never wanted to force it, rather just decided to wait and see how the situation develops. He feels so happy he gets a sudden burst of inspiration. But he can't write yet. Not until he gets a chance to ask. You might have been first with the confession, but he's definitely taking the initiative to ask you to be his girlfriend.
Tumblr media
Rui, oh Rui! Like Haku he was so ready to make you his and was constantly trying to make you see that he's not playing around. Well, someone decided not to notice his efforts. (How cruel) until this very moment. Now you confessed to him, and he couldn't be happier. In his head he's already planning hundreds of cute dates he's going to take you on. The fact that you're not really together just yet doesn't seem to bother him much but can you blame him? He's way too excited.
Tumblr media
Ed is way too cocky I swear. You want to back away? No can do I'm afraid. You're basically his the moment you confess to sorry I don't make the rules. Was he waiting for this moment to happen? Maybe. He feels satisfied that he did succeed in making you fall for him after all, though he is a bit surprised given the fact how hard you were resisting his charms before. Believe it or not he's suddenly not feeling so lazy anymore... He's eager and ready to see you right this moment.
Tumblr media
Lyca is a bit oblivious, but at the same time very straightforward and it makes a very... Interesting combination. You like him? Yeah he likes you too, so? Oh, it's more than a friend... Well, then you two should just date right? Isn't it how it works? At least that's what Subaru told him (he forgot some details here and there but not like it's that important to him) so he's going to ask you here and now. The decision is yours to make hehe.
Tumblr media
Towa is a bit sad cause he definitely thought you love him already. I mean he was always so sweet and affectionate with you, so only natural to think that's just his nature, right? Well, wrong. He's only like that with you. The sadness is short lived though. You love him and that's all that matters! He won't waste time and will come and meet you wherever you are just to ask you officially to be his.
Tumblr media
Haru catches on very quickly, almost surprisingly given how busy he can get. In his free time he always did make sure to spend it with you, throwing in some hints here and there and it seemed now that it worked out! Here you were, confessing to him. With three words you made his day just like that. He can't wait to be finished with his work so be can come see you and make sure you really want to be his.
Tumblr media
Ren is freaking out. Like really bad. His crush literally just confessed to him. Keep it calm, keep it cool. He was fighting that 'weird' (love) feeling that just wouldn't go away and with your sudden confession it felt like a new wave of feelings came crashing on him. Just what is he supposed to do? He really needs to sit down and have a moment of honesty with himself. He doesn't want to reject you after all... But how does he go about making you his girlfriend? It's all so awkward to him.

Cricket-Part 4
Tumblr media
Greg “Mouse” Gerwitz x reader (nicknamed Cricket)
You knew it was a bad idea, you just didn't realize how bad until you have your feelings for Mouse dumped in your lap when someone from his past pops up
Warnings:Mentions of previous sexual acts, maybe mention of violence?
Why did you ever ask Mouse if you could kiss him? You were currently standing in your kitchen, waiting for your coffee to make and trying not to think too hard about just the morning before when you were sitting on the counter you were currently leaning against with him between your legs. He’d ended up staying with you Saturday night and most of Sunday.
There weren't many areas of your apartment that you and him hadn’t at least made out on. How the fuck were you supposed to go into work today and act like nothing had changed between the two of you? God, why had you been so damn dumb to think your friendship could remain the same after that?
You groaned lightly and reached for your travel mug. You just needed to get your head on straight. You would see how he was acting and go from there. Yeah, that’s what you would do. For once you were happy to be partnered with Adam. He’d talk your ear off and get your mind on something else besides just how it felt to have Mouse…NO you were not doing that!!
Tumblr media
You pulled into the parking lot of the precinct and parked next to Jay. You slipped your jacket on and grabbed what you needed before climbing out, sipping on your coffee as you headed towards the front entrance. You could go through the back way but that was a better chance of seeing Mouse first thing if he was down in the tech room for any reason instead of being in the bullpen.
When you walked past the front desk Trudy glanced up from her paper “Morning Cricket” “Morning Trudy” you replied, walking up to the palm scanner. You typed in your code then laid your hand down. When the gate popped you headed up, taking the stairs just a little slower than you normally would.
_______________________
When you made it to the bullpen Mouse leaned back in his chair and smiled at you “Morning Cricket” “Morning” you replied with a small smile as you made your way over to your desk. Adam waited until you got sat down to plop his ass down on top of several reports you needed to finish. “Dammit Ruzek!” you laughed, tugging at a few of the folders.
He grinned “So, I heard from Lindsay our little Cricket is looking to chirp her way back into the dating pool” you rolled your eyes “I swear Erin is like an annoying mother trying to get her daughter married off at this point” he busted out laughing “Oh come on now, she isn’t that bad” you raised an eyebrow and he shrugged “She means well?” you cut your eyes at Mouse and he was either actually not paying attention to your conversation or purposely ignoring it. You weren’t sure which scenario you preferred.
“She seems to think I need to start back dating” he nodded slowly “You know, a few people have asked about you” you shook your head “Jesus! Just because you and Kim are coupled and Jay and Erin are coupled doesn’t mean I need to be! What about Kev?”
“I’m still dating the same nurse from med I’ve been dating for the last six months there sweet cheeks” Kevin teased, tossing a piece of balled up paper at your head. You groaned lightly “Leave me out of your match making!” Adam shook your shoulder “Come on Cricket! Just try it! Not all men are assholes and if they prove to be, let us kick their asses this time around!” you rolled your eyes again and playfully shoved him off your desk “Get to work before I file an H.R. complaint”
“That hurts, that really hurts” he tried to sound serious, grabbing over his heart and everything but the fact that he was chewing his bottom lip to keep from laughing made it a hard sell. “I swear on god Adam” “I’m going,I’m going” he laughed, scurrying over to hide behind Kim who had watched yours and Adam’s interactions with a grin like she always did when the two of you got started giving each other hell.
Tumblr media
Mouse listened to you and Adam joke half the morning, Erin joining in about you being the first detective to leave to join a convent. He had to duck his head a few times to not down right smirk in her face, if only she knew the things you were up for. He knew he couldn’t bust you out like that though. It was just sex. Amazing sex between him and the one woman who meant more to him than damn near anyone in his life. Outside of Jay you were his best friend.
He couldn’t risk losing you just because he’d spent the weekend wrapped up in you. “Mouse, you’re not innocent either” Jay spoke and his eyes flew up to look around the room “What did I do?” Jay grinned “When’s the last time you dated anyone?” he shrugged, mouth opening then closing to the point he realized he resembled a damn fish out of water more than a human at the moment “I’m not sure..when you say date, what do you mean exactly?”
Erin shook her head “Men are dogs, I swear” you grinned slightly “Or Mouses, whichever” he didn’t miss the look you shot him but everyone else just saw it as the normal teasing and busted out laughing. “So, what? You couples are trying to sell us off to the highest bidders now or something?” you asked, throwing a pen at Jay’s head.
Jay caught it and shook his head “No, it’s just sad to see you two constantly hanging out because you don’t have dates. You’re always third and fourth wheeling” “Stop inviting us?” you suggested and Erin threw her hands up in the air “Hopeless, they’re hopeless” Mouse leaned up and raised his hand slightly “I think we proved that when we picked you two as our best friends”
That caused Kim, Adam, Kevin and even Antonio to crack up. “Hey, he got you two there man” Adam teased Jay with a wink.
Tumblr media
“Cricket, we gotta roll” you looked up to see Adam slipping his jacket on. “Where are we headed?” you asked and he nodded towards Voight’s office “I got the clear to go talk to a C.I. that may know anything about this freaking robbery ring we’re chasing” “Who?” you asked and he grinned “Cherry” no wonder he was taking you. Cherry couldn’t stand Adam but he was always a total sweetheart when you were around. Matter of fact if he could kick something your way to help with this? It would go a big way towards his case.
“Let me grab my jacket” you told him and he grinned “Thank you” you shook your head and slipped your jacket on, slipping your gun and badge into place. You fell into step with Adam as the two of you headed to the stairs. Mouse looked up from his computer and you felt your heart flip when a small smile slipped onto his face.
What were you supposed to do now? You made it to the stairs and you and Adam took them side by side to the gate. When you got to it, he opened it and held it for you. “Are we taking your truck or my car?” he asked and you grinned “Oh you’re driving partner. I want a chauffeur for the day”  “Diva” he muttered and you winked at him “It’s a change, isn’t it. You’re normally the diva out of the two of us”
______________________
You stepped out of Adam’s car when he pulled up to where Cherry normally was. The moment Cherry saw Adam he started cussing but his words fell silent on his lips the moment he spotted you “My little cricket” you grinned “Cherry bomb. How you been sugar?” he shrugged “Well enough, as long as I ain’t gotta see this one’s face”
You cut your eyes at Adam who raised an eyebrow as if to say “Told ya so” you laughed “Well I got good news. If you know anything that could help us on this robbery ring, I can probably get Voight to go ahead and scrub your case plus I’ll make sure a good percentage gets kicked your way” he nodded then pointed to Adam “See? She knows how to talk to people”
Tumblr media
Mouse was down in the tech room, he was attempting to try to run a trace back on some of the cameras in surrounding areas that the crew had hit last. The hope was if he could find their car, maybe he could backtrack it to some form of an address for a starting point.
His phone went off with a text and he was hoping it was you. That maybe you’d gotten Adam to drive so you could say something to him, anything. He couldn’t stop thinking about you. The way it felt to kiss you, how your skin felt under his fingers, how your body felt against his..the sounds you made..how you tasted..FUCK he had to stop that before he ended up hard at work.
He picked up his phone and saw it was a text from Jay Walk upstairs to the front desk ok? That was a little weird. Normally Jay would just come down and the front desk? Whatever. At least it got his mind busy for a few seconds.
He headed up the stairs and could hear Jay and Erin both talking to someone. The voice sounded vaguely familiar. He opened the door and Gianna was standing with Jay and Erin. His eyes widened. He hadn’t seen her since they all got out of the army. “Hey Gia” she smiled big “Mousey!” and ran to hug him.
Tumblr media
“So, this is good. Cherry gave us some good info” you looked over everything Cherry had given you after you wrote it down on one of the little notebooks that luckily Kim had stashed in Adam’s glovebox because god knows your partner didn’t think that far ahead. “He really did. Looking like he’s kicking that case” Adam agreed.
You leaned back in the seat and checked your phone. You had an urge to send Mouse a text. What were you supposed to say? Are we still friends? Are you thinking about it as much as I am?
You sighed a little louder than you meant to and Adam cut his eyes at you “Are you ok?” you nodded “Just a little tired” he raised an eyebrow “Better raid the fridge in the breakroom and steal Mouse’s energy drinks Cricket. I need you chirping. We got work to do” you grinned “Aye aye cap! I am on it” and he started laughing.
_____________________
You followed Adam into the precinct and stopped dead in your tracks when you saw Mouse hugging a blonde at the front desk. “Cricket?” Adam asked and you realized you were frozen to the spot, eyes glued to your best friend with another woman in his arms. You weren’t supposed to be hurt by that. You’d sworn to him nothing would change. God how wrong you’d been.
“I’m good” you told Adam as Jay, Erin and Mouse all three noticed the two of you. Mouse somehow managed to dislodge the blonde from his body. Erin spoke first, introducing you and Adam  “This is Gianna. She served with the guys” you forced what you knew was clearly a fake smile on your face but at the moment it was the absolute best you could muster “Awesome, nice to meet you. I’ve gotta take Jay and Erin. We got work to do”
Mouse’s eyes were glued to you “Break on the case?” he asked and you shrugged “Maybe?” he nodded and Gianna looked from you to him “I don’t want to interrupt work. I’ll be in town for a couple days. I just wanted to catch up, meet Jay’s girl”  “Sounds good” Erin told her.
She smiled “Nice to meet you Adam and was it Cricket?” you nodded “Yeah” she nodded then looked at Mouse “See you later Mousey” you raised an eyebrow at that. Mousey? Really? She walked out and you spun to head for the palm scanner, not waiting on the rest of them to catch up. You needed to tell Voight what Cherry had given you and Adam and honestly? You needed space from “Mousey” at the moment.
Tumblr media
You were glad that Cherry’s information proved good. Not just because he got his case scrubbed or some needed funds slid his way. You needed the distraction. You stood in the group down in roll up as everyone geared up. Mouse passed out coms and you made him drop yours in your hand, refusing to let your skin touch no matter how childish it was. You had to find your footing again. That was all. Right?
He cut his eyes up at you but you looked away before you could make eye contact. You couldn’t do that to yourself, not right now. Voight went over the pre-raid plan followed by “Just remember, everyone comes home. Let’s roll out” you took your long gun from Jay and followed Adam out, not looking back.
____________________
The raid ended up being successful. A total of seven arrests were made, sixty percent of the stolen goods were recovered and nearly two million in cash and other funds. Everyone trudged into roll up to put away the gear. You passed your gun to Adam who put it away and nodded to you “You good?” you shrugged “I’m fine Ruz. It was barely a knock” he grinned “Ok, just wanna make sure”
You’d gotten in a little scuffle with one of the offenders but Adam had been hot on your heels and got there just in time. You bumped your fist against his “You had my back partner” he nodded “Good to know”
The two of you headed upstairs to the bullpen. Voight was at the board and motioned you two over “Helluva pull. Cherry did his job and then some. Got a good pay day” “Good, he deserves it” Voight nodded “Guessing you delivering” you grinned “Not like he’s letting Adam” and you saw a small smile tug at Voight’s lips “That is true”
Tumblr media
Mouse watched you pack up and grab the envelope with the cash in it for Cherry. Kevin was gonna follow you to deliver it just in case. So far you had barely looked his way and he had no clue what he’d done that was so wrong. It had to be the time you two had spent together. Were you regretting it? Did you actually hate him now? Did he lose you?
You headed for the stairs as Jay walked over to his desk “You good man?” he nodded “Yeah, why?” he shrugged “You’ve seen a little out of it since Cricket and Gia met” he shook his head “Naw, just a little tired I think” Jay nodded “Ok, just checking. You gonna meet up with Gia?”
He knew what Jay was getting at, him and Gia had hooked up a time or two. She was a pretty woman, sweet and if he was honest good in bed but she wasn’t you. He didn’t want her. “I don’t know man, the past is the past for a reason”
Jay shook his head “Hopeless, Erin is right” Mouse grinned “You as my best friend this many years is proof of that”
______________________
You thanked Kevin for watching your back while you dropped that much cash off to Cherry, you trusted him but precautions were still needed. You got in your truck and you had a text from Erin Call me when you can You clicked so your phone would come through the speakers then turned over the engine and hit her number as you pulled out onto the road “You rang my dear?”
“Yeah, you tore out of there like a bat out of hell. Are you good? Adam said you got in a scuffle?” you laughed “Barely that, I’m good” she laughed lightly “What do you think of Gia?” you scoffed “She’s very blonde” she chuckled “You know her and Mouse used to be a thing?” Your stomach churned at the confirmation of what you already suspected. You were a fucking idiot. She just so happened to show up after he’d spent the weekend with you? What? Was it just a way to get his confidence back up? Practice some positions?
“Cricket?” she called and you realized you had gone silent “Yeah, thought so. Anyways I’m headed home to crash. I’ll see you in the morning” “Ok babe, holler if you need me” “Same to you love” you told her before the two of you said your goodbyes and hung up.

a quiet light (a gentle support) part 2!
(part one here)
hiiii gang!! i had this waiting in my drafts for 84 years. i was stuck thinking about baking, you know how it is. thank you for understanding and happy may! we're still out here supporting the vaguely disabled gender neutral reader. good for them
.
The prototype is ready by the end of the week.
Viktor doesn't mention that he'd pushed both his personal projects and actual assingments aside to finish your leg brace. He just tells you it's done, casually in the hallway after one of your lectures, as the tide of students eager to go home buzz by like fish in a river.
You step aside, out of the stream of students, and closer to him.
The sliver of time between the end of Viktor's workday and the sunset always felt like an exhale; like relaxing your shoulders. The academy was getting quieter by the minute, and the eyes focused on him were lessening, which was always good. Viktor could always breathe better outside of a crowd, preferably separated by a door or two, and he was never a fan of the bright lights and white walls of the pristine hallways either. Now, however, the tall windows were letting in the last dim light of the day, and when you look up at him, he doesn’t mind. The sunlight illuminates you in shimmery golden hues.
Something about the sensation reminds him of an exhale, too.
Of relief.
Of something in his chest unwinding a little. Settling.
He decides not to dwell on this, on the tug at the back of his head that says this probably means something. It's quiet in his head when you look at him, and he has a job to do. He shifts his posture and waits for your response.
"Oh," you answer, "already?"
You adjust the strap of the bag on your shoulder, shift your weight from one side to the other. Viktor recognizes the habit; shuffling to ease the tension. It didn't really work, and it was still hard not to fall back into.
"It's a simple design," Viktor answers, "Took no effort at all."
That was a lie. He'd grinded and polished the metal parts by hand, to make sure they were smooth enough to not cut you or damage your clothes. He'd made it far more adjustable than strickly necessary.
He'd tried to make it beautiful, for heavens sake. The thought of leaving it crude and purely functional had felt like a crime, so he'd just...put some extra care into making it look as pleasant as possible.
He hoped you liked it.
"It's still a prototype," he continues, "you should come test it, see if we need to make any adjustments."
So you agree to meet him at the lab later that night, and Viktor goes on his way with something sizzling in his bone marrow.
The sun sets, and the campus quiets down, and he passes his time on menial tasks, cleans up a little, even empties the scrap metal bins.
By the time you knock on the door, he is vibrating in his skin.
He pushes that feeling to the back of his head when he calls for you to come in.
You open the door with a careful creak and slip inside, but don't walk in fully. Instead, you linger by the entrance, holding... something.
"Sorry," you start, "do you have like, a no food policy at the lab? I baked something for you."
He blinks.
Recalibrates his brain.
He does not remember the last time someone baked something for him. It's been years, easily. Since he was a child, probably.
"Eh," he says, then shrugs and waves towards an extra desk that had been designated as a coffee-and-occasional-snacks -area. "Technically," he says, "we're not supposed to eat in the lab, so," he stands up and walks to the desk, gesturing towards it and a faded line of tape in the ground, "technically, the lab ends here. This side of the tape is free for food."
You lift your eyebrows and stare at him.
He waves a hand dismissively. "Heimerdinger," he explains, which judging by your expression is only sort of self-explanatory, so he continues, "needed something to put on the books about how we were following guidelines here."
He meets your eyes, "but isn't stupid enough to think he could actually keep us ftom having coffee in here."
"Ah." you answer, "so, tape for superficial rule-following?"
Viktor shrugs again. "We do actually try to keep food on this side of it," he defends, "because of crumbs. And cross-contamination. A lot of the materials we work with aren't good with liquids, either, so..." he gestures to the coffee maker on the far corner of the desk. "Besides, apparently it's good for your brain to get up and change scenery every once in a while."
"Who'd have thought," you answer through a smile and raise an eyebrow. Then, you lift up the container you're holding -  something steaming  still covered with a fabric, and now that he was close enough, he could tell it smelled heavenly - "So, I can leave this here?"
He nods.
You smile, and he thinks it should be illegal to have a smile that sweet, and he gives in.
"What did you bring?"
Your smile turns into a grin, and you stand up a little straighter, uncovering the container. "It's one of my specialties. It's these sweet little honey swirls, I thought you might like them- I mean I won't be offended if you don't, but-"
He leans in to look into the container as you push it towards him. The things in there were still-steaming and golden brown - and they smelled divine - small rolls packed into a glorious pile.
You exhale and fix your posture. "I wasn't sure what you'd like. You don't have to eat them, but I'd highly recommend trying one, at least."
He hums at the offer, picks one up, and inspects is for a moment before taking a generous bite. He trusted your judgement enough to assume it would be good, and honestly, if the scent and outlook were any indication, he'd be truly shocked to be proven wrong.
You wait for his reaction.
It comes with widened eyes and an intense look your way.
"This is incredible," he says around it, already picking up another. "Did you make these?"
You smile, small and sweet, and take one for yourself. "Yeah," you answer with a shrug.
He's picking up his third one. "Well then," he says, "consider us even." Then, "would you happen to have anything else in mind that I could do for you?"

#Chatterbomb#Reading Thoughts May Dim by themoomin and I’m on the last chapter… hhhnnngg :(#I’m like halfway through it and it’s not looking good#It’s not tagged as having a bad ending but. I’m scared#I liked knave of diamonds because when lupin was an asshole he got 3 billion kicks in the head#Now it’s very centered around sad zeni. Free my boy he didn’t do anything#This poor lonely self deprecating man… where is the zenigata has A Good Day and is loved and cherished and happy#Sadness seeping through to me. I need to find zenigata happy and healthy stuff#I finished it now and. I think it was supposed to be a happy ending?#Zenigata just uprooted his life and morals so his crush wouldn’t kill himself. Ok#I’m all for zeni doesn’t wanna be a cop anymore because I think there’s a lot that can be done with that and criticize the justice system#But it.. doesn’t usually do that#I think it was pretty solid until the last chapter and a few other things that poked out#We all have different interpretations for characters in a 50+ year old franchise but!! Some things stuck out to me yk#I feel like jigen is a bit mean in these ones!! He shows up and is always the embodiment of jealousy and I think that’s not good actually#He’s protective yeah but he doesn’t.. like.. hate zenigata.. maybe it’s just a part 2 thing and I’ve forgor but he was also silly with it#He kissed his mouth and made him chase after him when he asked for a light. I feel like everyone is a bit more mean. Aside from zeni who is#Pretty chill honestly on account of the depression I guess. He turned a lot of things in on himself and never blamed lupin (at least not fo#Long) which is? Interesting ig? I felt a lot for zeni cause honestly I relate! But the way the story went didn’t feel like a good ending.#It felt like a bad ending in a psychological horror. If anyone’s reading this take it with a grain of salt#I may be viewing zeni in rose colored glasses because. Favorite character disease or something#It’s kind of heart breaking watching this sweet confused guy get further and further wrapped around this unstable manipulators finger. And#It Even had a “riding off into the sunset” type of ending. Zeni can be sweet but he felt VERY sweet in this story. And the worst things he#Did to contribute to his “corruption” was? Sleeping with Lupin? Ok. Wgat.#Oh and. Stealing a coin from some guy on impulse because it was from his ancestor. He regretted it immediately (the episode itself is silly#And hints on him breaking laws to catch lupin which are not elaborated on#It’s an interpretation on how luzeni would work I guess but it just felt off? Idk man I’m gonna take a shower#Ohhh wait. The enemies to lovers tag was listed as “kind of?” And I was wondering how you make that “kind of”. I know now.#are they lovers? worse

watching 'when life gives you tangerines' the way God intended (resenting my fate feeling a deep ache in my heart looking at these characters having the kind of love/relationship/family that i dreamed of--was even convinced i had at some point in my childhood (which was never true) and crying at every episode and still somehow feeling fulfilled in such a tragic way i want to laugh and laugh and laugh until i cry/die)
#when life gives you tangerines#im so. so. like. idek#i have so many thoughts. not many feelings bc theres nothing to feel except envy and resentment but#the way its made is so you would feel this way#ae-sun's whole life and then her daughter's life is the ideal everyone hopes for no matter if they have everything or not.#yes they're struggling and poor and it creates so many problems but the kind of love they have (ae-sun and her daughter) invokes envy#and everyone else in the show feels that and so does the audience#i'm so fucking sad that i'm even more mad#at the same time iam so happy a show like this was made#a show like this exists#and that i watched it#that i got to watch it and experience it the ideal way--the way it was supposed to be#something in me is so settled already i havent even finished it yet but i dont think its much about the ending for this show#i keep crying but i know its no use. i know it can't be so. and that has finally made me be at peace. its just this way now.#this is just how it has always been and how it will always be#i could choose better for myself but#i won't#i wont choose anything at all#theres nothing to fight for--no one who faught for me. i only have myself. and choosing myself is to choose nothing.#bc when you choose yourself you have no external choices to make. you can only build new options. you can only make new outcomes#bring them into existence at great costs especially with nothing backing you and that. i feel like ive been fighting for that all this time#and idk#idk.

more of Ghost’s sweet wife from this blurb! | mlist ✎ᝰ.ᐟ
Tumblr media
Ghost’s sergeant’s are still trying to figure out how a sweet thing like yourself ended up as their Lieutenant’s wife. Rumors spread, ones that bruise Ghost’s ego just a little— ‘Did you hear the Lieutenant is holding a poor lass hostage as his wife?’
It doesn’t help that anytime anyone asks he chalks it up to his ‘irresistible charm.’
The truth? Well he can’t let his team know how utterly soft he is for you.
It would ruin his image if he told them that when he’s not on base he spends his spare time at his elderly neighbor’s apartment. Carries her mail up the stairs everyday so she doesn’t have to climb up the stairs herself, helps her up them whenever he does see her shaking and stumbling up the steps.
Asks her if she needs anything from the market when he’s going shopping, takes her to get refills of her medicine. Always makes himself available to her no matter how minuscule, opens stubborn jars for her, helps her read the tiny font on her prescription bottles, fixes the time on her clocks when the time changes.
Her glorified maintenance boy, and truthfully, Simon was more than happy to help. It felt good to be needed for something normal, so he replaced her light bulbs, drained her clogged sinks, fixed her lopsided wash machine with a smile.
Every Sunday morning, the same routine, tea and biscuits while she taught him how to crochet. It wasn’t exactly easy to hold the slender hooks in his thick fingers, but he could hold them steady long enough, zero his focus through a needle after years as a sniper. He was quite a patient person, and the stitching helped pass the days he was alone, numb his mind to nothing, but loop and thread.
Loop and thread.
It’s not like she was the only one benefiting from the agreement. It was quiet, peaceful, a much needed contrast to the draining and stressful occupation he put himself in. Most days he fell asleep in her recliner, always had her heater a little warmer than needed, the smell of pastries she was baking wafting from the kitchen. Made her living room entirely too comfortable, but she didn’t mind when he took naps, even if he was sure he snored like a bear.
Insisted he call her ‘Gran,’ even if she wasn’t his grandmother. Though, he supposed she acted like she was; baked him an abundance of pastries, always made more than enough dinner for two people. Gave him left overs for lunch— ‘a little lady like myself can’t finish it all alone, Simon.’
Plus, it led him to you.
There were days their conversations strayed to his relationship status. Single, of course, something Gran tried to change, dropping hints throughout their time together:
‘A young man like yourself should have a wife and kids by now, Simon!’
‘You sure are a handy man, you’ll make a great husband someday.’
‘You should meet my granddaughter, I think you two would get along swell.’
‘You know, my granddaughter can cook just as well. Taught her all my recipes.’
He always brushed it off; he wasn’t exactly looking to be in a relationship, but Gran was cunning, sneaky, and set the two of you up. Invited him over for dinner and to watch the football game on the telly one day. Except when he walked through her front door, calling for her, he saw your figure in the kitchen, adorned in an apron, covered in flour and sugar.
And well, he already called her ‘Gran,’ why not legally make her his grand-in-law?

Heyy!! Can i please request LADS guys' reaction when you try to pay 50/50 on a date ^_^
LaDS men when you offer to split the bill
pairings: Xavier, Zayne, Rafayel, Sylus, Caleb x Reader(separate)
content: fluff, suggestiveness in zayne’s
a/n: oh to have a rich boyfriend. working through reqs rn sorry if they’re taking a while TT
Tumblr media
Xavier
You and Xavier were out on your first date night in a while.
You’d both been busy with work, spending time together on missions and at home but you started missing going out with him.
Finishing up at your regular hotpot place, you and Xavier were just talking to now.
Before a waiter could come check in, you took your chance,
“Xavier, let’s do half-half.”
You saw the confusion pass on his face,
“Half-half? But we just finished eating, did you want to get dessert? We can do that.”
A laugh escaped you and his face lit up at the sound as well,
“No, I meant let’s pay half-half.”
The man sitting opposite of you furrowed his brows, still not understanding,
“Why? I can pay for us both.”
You shrugged,
“You always do. I feel bad.”
He quickly shut that down, shaking his head,
“Don’t. I like treating you. I want to pay, I’m your boyfriend.”
You smiled at his words, feeling lucky to have such a sweet partner,
“All right. But the offer’s on the table.”
His eyebrows were still drawn together,
“Well, that’s not necessary.”
Before you could say anything else, he got up, heading to the front of the restaurant to pay.
Zayne
Zayne had wrapped up a week of surgeries back to back.
To relax, you two went out to eat.
You were enjoying each other’s company, happy to finally spend some time together.
Once you two were done eating, you told him.
“Zayne, I want to pay half.”
At that, he frowns,
“Please, don’t. I invited you out.”
You cocked your head, looking at him with big eyes,
“You’ve been working so hard, you won’t let me treat you, so at least let me pay half!”
The frown stayed on his face,
“I appreciate everything you do for me but I’m more than happy to pay for you. I insist, actually.”
You flashed him a sweet smile but reached for your purse regardless.
Though, before you could even pull your wallet out, he called a waiter over and handed them his card.
You went to protest but he quickly reached for your hand, intertwining it with his.
“Darling, I’m grateful for your thoughtfulness, but considering how our quality time together is cut short sometimes due to my work, allow me to spend the money I make from my job on you.”
The sincerity reflected in his eyes makes your heart swell.
You nod, defeated, before a mischievous grin comes onto your face,
“Fine then, I’ll just repay you later tonight.”
The tips of his ears turned red and his eyes widened slightly but before he could respond, the waiter returned with his card.
Zayne could barely focus on anything for the rest of the night, you didn’t miss the shy looks he shot you throughout.
Rafayel
A new art exhibition of his work had been published, to celebrate, you two went out tonight.
Rafayel had it all planned out, a candlelight dinner, a lone table on the balcony, just the two of you.
He was having a great time, until you dared to utter the words,
“Let me pay half.”
He looked like you had personally insulted him.
“You’re asking your rich boyfriend who just had a new art exhibition, if you can pay for your own food?”
Letting out an awkward laugh clearly wasn’t the right course of action, as he started again,
“I love you. You know how much I love you. So, why would you ever ask me that. Was that supposed to be a joke? Because I don’t think it’s funny.”
You scratched your head, unsure of how to respond,
“I didn’t know you were so passionate about this…”
He put his hands on the table, leaning over,
“I’m passionate about providing for my lover.”
You felt surprisingly moved by your boyfriend’s, albeit strange, declaration of affection.
Rafayel sighed,
“I might’ve gotten a bit carried away there at the end but my point stands! Don’t even suggest something like that again. I want to give you nice experiences, that doesn’t include you having to worry about paying.”
You rested your chin on your hand, smiling at him softly,
“Thanks, Rafayel.”
He smiled back at you, his eyes glittering as he looked at you,
“One last thing, if I ever accept that, shoot me on that spot. It has to be a clone, can’t be me.”
He didn’t hide the satisfied look on his face as you laughed.
Sylus
You had been gushing about this new restaurant that had opened near your place.
Sylus had taken you there tonight and it lived up to all your expectations.
Seeing your content expression as you munched on your dessert, left him feeling fulfilled.
You two were engaged in a conversation, before you dropped the bomb on him,
“Sy, let’s split the bill.”
He immediately looked offended,
“Why would we?”
Spoon in mouth, you blinked at him,
“It was my idea to come here, it’s only right.”
His eyes narrowed slightly,
“I brought you here.”
You hummed, still not backing down,
“Doesn’t matter, you’ve been paying for everything lately…”
His look of disapproval almost made your lips curl up,
“As I should. Sweetie, what’s the point of having so much money, if not to spend it on you?”
You ate another bite, feeling charmed.
He smirked and you knew he was onto you,
“Also, while I do think it’s sweet you offered, if I’m not mistaken, you didn’t bring your wallet.”
You stilled, spoon midair, before looking up at him, bashful.
You fluttering your eyelashes at him, not answering.
His laugh that sounded like it could buy the whole building brought a cheeky grin to your face.
“You should really try this, it tastes great!”
“Very smooth, kitten.”
Caleb
Caleb finally took his vacation days and you two went on a trip to a nearby town.
It was your last day there and you decided to have a nice dinner at a fancy restaurant.
You were sitting across each other, Caleb was done eating before you, so you made him eat the rest of your food, that you couldn’t finish.
He was listening to you talk with a lovesick look on his face.
You kept yapping until he was almost done eating,
“Alrighty, let’s do 50/50.”
He stopped, eyes flickering up to your face, his smile dropping,
“What do you mean, pips?”
Giggling, you elaborated,
“Let’s split the bill 50/50!”
He squinted at you,
“No.”
You looked taken aback by his blunt response,
“Why not?”
He stacked the plates over one another, before his gaze met yours again,
“For one, I ate half your food. And even if I didn’t, I don’t want you to pay for anything when I’m with you.”
A chuckle left you as you leaned back in your seat,
“You paid for the whole vacation, Caleb. Let me take this one.”
That charming, boyish grin he flashed you caused you to push a strand of hair behind your ear.
He was so good at winning you over,
“I like taking care of you, honey. You’re not paying for anything.”
You sighed,
“You’re too good to me.”
He looked at you, like you had just said something outlandish.
“Yeah, let’s get you three servings of dessert for that. You deserve everything, pipsqueak.”
You whined his name, feeling shy.
He always looked at you like you had hung all the stars in the sky.
He’d be damned if he didn’t at least try to give you the whole world.

I really wanted to ask if you could do like a GN! It can be fem too it doesn’t really matter—
The Reader where like Ultraman can transform bigger too but they're more inspired by Mothra (like a mothra suit). I think it would've been like so cute to see Emi go all awe and clingy to the reader because how bright and heavenly they look💕
Kenji gets all jealous seeing his kajju daughter prefer the reader over him a lil bit. tall parents raising baby monster
Emi’s Favorite
Kenji Sato x Reader
Word Count: 1,546
Genre/Warning: Established Relationship, Family Dynamics, Jealousy (very slight)
Author’s Note: Loved this idea so much, thank you for this first request! Emi with a moth mommy ⋆˚ʚɞ
MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Something about your boyfriend changed the night after Gigantron’s “attack” on Tokyo Dome. That night, you were supposed to help him fend the kaiju off but he insisted he’d do it on his own.
For some reason, you were glad you did not join in because (1) their fight became a pursuit in the sky, and (2) you could not zoom in the air the same way Ultraman does. The only reason you’re able to fly is because of your wings—moth wings on your suit, which would put you at a disadvantage in the case of an air chase.
You were supposed to come over to his place that night to check on him because you were sure that the skirmish had caused more damage to his already injured shoulder. However, your calls were left answered by Mina, telling you that Kenji had already fallen asleep.
Deciding not to disturb him, you simply let him be. But in the days that followed, something surely wasn’t right. He couldn’t focus on his games, he looked so fatigued and restless all the time, and oh good gracious, there were now dark circles under his eyes.
He just looks so stressed and you were so upset with the fact that he didn’t want to tell you what’s going on with him. The time he got into a fight with the other players was the end of the line for you.
You barged into his house, finding him by his bathtub, in front of a TV, watching the news about him. The usually peaceful atmosphere in his house was now charged with tension as you made your way towards him. At that moment, Kenji was praying so hard the kaiju in his basement would keep still.
He still wouldn’t tell you what’s wrong. “It’s not about us. It’s about…” he said, “…something bigger. Something I’m not ready to share yet.”
Your eyes softened at his response, though the ache in your chest remained. You made him promise to talk to you when he’s ready and he agreed. You can’t stand seeing the love of your life like that but at the same time, you didn’t want to force him to do anything against his will. Taking up Ultraman was already enough of that.
Almost two months, after the incident, he seemed back to his old shape. Better, even. And thank heavens, finally, he could now tell you about what happened.
“There’s a what below?!” You asked in disbelief. The two of you were standing in front of the elevator and for a moment, you think your ears are playing tricks on you.
“A baby kaiju,” he replied and went on to explain everything. Still in disbelief, you took in everything with a nod. He placed his hand on the small of your back as he guided you into the elevator.
The moment you saw the big pink baby, you gasped. Emi made happy noises as you approached. However, upon noticing you, she suddenly began to cry.
Kenji was tapping on the glass containment in an attempt to shush her. But to no avail, Emi just cried harder.
“I’m sorry, she doesn’t know you yet,” Kenji apologized. “But I assure you, she’s a sweet big baby.”
Remembering how, at first, Emi only recognized Kenji when he was Ultraman, you decided to try something.
“(Y/n), what are you—“ Before Kenji finished, a soft glow enveloped you, and moments later, you emerged in your giant form. Your wings spread wide, shimmering with black patterns and warm tones of yellow and orange.
Emi’s cries slowed, her curiosity piqued by the sudden change. She opened her eyes, sobs turning to soft hiccups as she stared up at you in wonder. Her claws tapped the glass as she reached out, trying to grasp your wings.
Kenji watched in awe as Emi’s distress melted away. “I think it’s working,” he whispered.
“May I?” You asked, gesturing to the lid of the containment unit. Kenji gave a nod of approval. Carefully, you turned it before lifting it off.
You lowered yourself closer to Emi, your wings fluttering softly as she climbed up her containment. The gentle breeze they created seemed to soothe her further.
Emi let out a delighted squeal, her earlier tears forgotten. She toddled closer to you, her claws gently touching the edge of your wing. She let out a happy chirp, eyes sparkling with joy.
Kenji stepped closer, a relieved smile spreading across his face. “Wow, she loves you in this form,” he said.
You smiled down at him. “She’s just like her dad,” you replied. “She knows a good thing when she sees it.”
Kenji chuckled before he himself transformed into Ultraman. He sat beside you with Emi in between the two of you.
Your wings gently enveloped Emi in a comforting embrace. She was now calm and happy as she traced the pattern of your wings with her claw.
“Gentle, baby,” Kenji said as he rubbed her head.
She continued walking around you and playing with your wings until she tired herself out. She walked in front of you and climbed on your lap, nestling her head on your stomach.
“Awww, baby,” you cooed. You gently picked her up into your arms and gently swayed.
Kenji moved close to you, wrapping an arm around you. You nestled into his arm, head resting on the junction of his neck and shoulders. The three of you slept like that for the night.
The next morning when Emi awoke, she immediately looked for you. Realizing that the moth lady was missing, she cried. Mina was quick to assist her, playing videos of cartoons and Kenji to calm her. To Mina’s surprise, none of them worked.
“Who’s making my baby cry?” Kenji asked as he approached. He expected her crying to cease once she saw him. However, that is not the case.
“Huh?” He questioned. Emi always calms when she sees him. “Mina, try showing her pictures of (y/n).”
Mina did as told and as miraculously as yesterday, Emi stopped crying. “It seems like she got herself a new mother,” Mina commented.
With Emi’s growing fondness of you, you found yourself frequenting at Kenji’s house more than ever. She was just so cute; like a live plushie when you’re in your giant form.
“Hi babyyyy,” you cooed as you transformed into your giant form. You scooped her up, her head nuzzling against you. Her earlier play was abandoned in favor of your presence.
You walked in on Kenji and Emi playing baseball together. And you didn’t mean to interrupt but when you saw her walking towards you, you knew you had to transform.
Kenji smiled at the scene. “She really loves you, you know,” he said.
You smiled back, feeling a warm glow inside. “I love her too,” you replied. “She’s such a sweetheart.”
Emi chirped happily as she climbed up your torso and onto your shoulder where she could watch and touch your wings.
Kenji watched the interaction, his smile fading slightly as a twinge of jealousy crept in. His baby kaiju shows a different kind of joy when you’re around.
He loved Emi dearly, but lately, it seemed like she preferred your company over his. He couldn’t help but feel a bit sidelined.
“She really lights up when you’re here,” Kenji said, trying to keep his tone light.
You glanced at him, noticing the slight edge in his voice. “She lights up when you’re here too, Kenji,” you replied. “She loves you.”
He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “I know, but… it feels like she’s more excited to see you than me sometimes.”
You tapped the space on the floor beside you, gesturing for him to switch to Ultraman. Thankfully, he did not resist.
You moved close to him as he sat beside you, his hand finding its way to your thigh. Your head automatically rested on his shoulder.
“You’re her dad, Kenji,” you said. “She loves you so much. Maybe she’s just fascinated by my wings right now.”
You felt Kenji nod, although the jealousy still lingered within him. “Yeah, maybe,” he replied. “I just want to be enough for her.”
You leaned back to look at him. Your other hand which was not holding Emi on your shoulder, moved up to hold his face. “You are enough. You’re everything to her,” you said. “And to me.”
Emi squirmed out of your hand, gently jumping off your shoulder and landing on your lap. She toddled over to Kenji. He looked down at her, his heart melting as she reached up, wanting to be held. He picked her up, and she nuzzled against his chest, purring softly.
“See?” You asked with a smile. “She adores you.”
Kenji hugged Emi close, his jealousy fading into thin air. “Yeah,” he said. “I guess you’re right.”
You spent the rest of the day playing with Emi, taking turns holding her and making her laugh. By the time evening rolled around, she was content and sleepy in Kenji’s arms.
Before reverting to your original form, you kissed Emi’s head and then leaned in to kiss Kenji. “I’ll be back soon,” you said. “Take care of our little one.”
Kenji smiled, his earlier worries forgotten. “We’ll be here, waiting.”

Eyes, They Never Lie
Tumblr media
Summary: Sam and Bucky try to recruit (Y/N), Bucky's ex and a former Avenger who has left that life behind. But they realize her life has changed completely once they meet a her daughter with striking blue eyes.
Pairings: Bucky x Former!Avenger!Reader
“They want me to assemble a group,” Sam takes a long sip of his beer, thinking that it’ll do something to ease his mind. “The New Avengers.”
Bucky lets out a low whistle.
“I know.” Sam mutters. So far, it’s Captain America and the Falcon, but other than that, he’s completely lost. “Back when Steve was here, there was a place for us to go. We could aspire to one day go into the compound and train, but now, anyone who is willing to be part of the team is scattered all around the world.”
Bucky hasn’t said anything, not because he doesn’t know how to help his friend but because he’s so lost in his own journey. Running for congress sounded like a good idea, until he started dealing with the political world. So much bureaucracy, so many people wanting to fatten their wallets. And not enough actual helping.
“You got any ideas?” Sam asks, bringing him out of his mind.
But Bucky just hums, because the idea he does have is crazy.
“C’mon I know that being a silent watcher is your whole deal but I need some help over here. How the hell am I going to build a team from zero?”
Bucky finishes his drink, as if that’s going to help jumpstart his confidence. “Are you looking for fresh meat? Or do you got space for an old timer?”
Sam’s eyes widen. “I thought all your fighting days were behind you.”
“I want out,” Bucky loosens the tie on his neck. “I want to go out on the field again. Really help.”
Sam runs a hand down his face, there’s hesitation in the way he looks at Bucky.
“Unless…” Bucky gulps. “Unless I’m not what you’re looking for.”
“No, no.” Sam places a hand on his shoulder. “I just need to tell you something before you say yes to this-“
“What is it?”
“I was-uh-“ Sam looks up at the screen above them, not wanting to look at his friend in the eye when he says it. “I was gonna ask her to join, too.”
“Oh,” Bucky can’t help but think back to when you were his, at least for a moment. Every time he thinks about being happy, you’re right there next to him.
You were the first woman he was actually interested in. He spent years wasting time with thousands of women, letting them in his apartment but never into his heart. But your eyes reeled him in from the moment you started as an agent. Steve would always tease Bucky, saying he’d have to see you fall in love with someone else if he didn’t ask you out.
Those were the best years of his life. No doubt.
Until you left. You retired, and wanted nothing to do with him. And all the love you had seemed to evaporate from one day to the next.
But Bucky? He was still waiting for you to come back.
“I-I thought she disappeared, retired.” Bucky stutters at your memory.
“I found out where she lives now. And I planned on talking her into the group.” Sam looks down at the beer in his hand.
“I’m in.” Bucky says, but he’ll never be sure if he accepted because he wanted out of the political world or if he wanted another glimpse of you.
-------
“The house is supposed to be up the road.” Sam mutters, trying to find cel reception. But the two of them were so deep into the woods, it was almost impossible.
Bucky had always imagined you’d end up like this. Off the grid, living off your land. But in the dream, the two of you would be together. He’d spend the day cutting wood and harvesting whatever you’d grown, and you’d be deep into a hobby, spending your nights recounting your wild life.
They see an opening up the road, but as they come closer, their eyebrows knit together.
“This can’t be it.” Sam says under his breath.
A huge cabin, surrounded by pine trees, is the only thing around. There’s a big tree at the front of the cabin, with a tree house on one of its branches. A glittery pink bike on the lawn along with a replica of Mjolnir next to it.
Sam parks his truck and they both step out cautiously. Bucky looks around, wondering how the woman who used to scream at the sight of a spider could live here, all alone.
As they come closer to the front door, they hear rustling from the tree house.
Bucky nudges his friend’s shoulder. “There’s someone over here.”
Sam’s head whips just enough to see a pair of binoculars looking at them from the wooden window.
“Hello?” He calls out but there’s no answer.
“Do you live here?” Bucky asks, only to be slapped on the chest by his friend.
“You can’t ask that! It’s creepy!”
Bucky rolls his eyes. “How else am I supposed to get an answer if I don’t ask a question?”
But there's no response from the person inside the tree house. Instead, there's clanking and banging and before they even realize it, there's a little girl pointing a bow and arrow directly at them.
"State your name! Now!" She tries to look menacing but her outfit is too much for the two men to handle. Sky blue rain boots with a purple tutu, a Def Leppard t-shirt and heart shaped sunglasses.
"Oh my god." Sam immediately melts. "Aren't you the cutest little thing I've ever seen."
But the little girl doesn't fall for the Captain's words, she points the arrow directly at Sam. "Don't make me repeat my question, I know how to use this."
"Do you live with an adult? Your aunt, maybe?" Bucky's throat dries up as he asks the question. He knew you had siblings before you went into the crazy line of work that were the Avengers, and he begged that the little girl before him was theirs.
Bucky spent hours thinking about you on the way here. He'd been dreaming of seeing you again, thinking of what must have changed and what stayed the same. But he never thought there was a possibility you had moved on.
"Is your-" Bucky clears his throat. "Is your dad home?"
Sam eyes his partner. "Smooth."
The little girl walks backwards until her back bumps into the cabin's front door. "I'll call my daddy."
Bucky's heart stops. After years, he was still thinking of you whenever his eyes closed, and you, you were completely over him. Started a family with someone else.
"I'm sorry, Buck." Sam pats his back, immediately noticing the shift in his friend's eyes.
"S'okay." Bucky mutters, grinding his combat boot into the ground. "I'm not here for her, I'm here to assemble the team."
"I know, but-"
"I said I'm fine." Bucky snaps, running a hand through his shorter hair.
You'd begged him, for years, to cut his hair.
"I love your long hair," you'd once murmured against his lips. "But I also love how you looked during the Howling Commandos era."
"Era? You're making me sound more old than I am." Bucky smiled against your lips.
"I'm just saying, you could shorten it." Whenever you looked into his eyes, it made him feel like he was the only thing in the world.
"I thought you liked pulling my hair." Bucky flipped you on the bed, taking in your bubbling laughter.
The creaking sound of the cabin door brought him back to now. Bucky sucks in air, preparing to meet the man who is apparently so incredible that you decided to drop everything to be with him.
He has to be at last six feet. Well I'm 6 foot 1, on a good day. Bucky responds to his own thoughts. And he must be jacked. Not as jacked as me, I'm the fucking Winter Soldier for fucks sake! He must love her. Well I, I've loved her every day since I met her.
It feels like it takes hours for this mystery man to come out. The door opens slowly, only to reveal... You.
Bucky's knees buckle as your eyes meet his. You hadn't changed a lick, and if he didn't know better, he'd think that you were still his. Bucky's hands ball into fists at his side, needing a physical reminder to not reach out and hold you. Beg for your kisses. Tell you he doesn't care that you left, just as long as you take him back.
"Sam? Bucky?" Your voice trembles. "What are you doing here? How did you find me?"
The little girl pokes her head from behind your legs. "Mommy!"
"Mommy?" Sam and Bucky shriek at the same time.
"Attack them! Take them down!" Your daughter laughs.
"Young lady!" You scold.
But the little girl interrupts you, raising a chubby hand to stop your words. "I've already told you my name is Tashi Romanoff."
"Tashi, please, go upstairs and play. I need to talk to them for a moment. In private." You enunciate your last two words, knowing they were her least favorite words in the world.
"Fine," she huffs, turning on her heels. But not before taking off her rain boots and heart shaped sunglasses to reveal a pair of striking eyes. Clear blue with a steel ring surrounding her iris. Bucky's brows furrow as he catches a glimpse of Tashi's eyes, almost the same exact shade as the one he sports.
"W-wai-She's-" Bucky stutters out, not being able to comprehend what just happened.
"Tashi, huh?" Sam raises his eyebrows.
"Yeah, she’s going through a phase where she refuses to be called by her name," you close the door behind you. "Auntie Nat came to visit us during the blip and she just latched on to her."
"W-was her dad blipped?" Bucky tries to act normal but his heart is beating out of his chest.
"Her dad isn't in the picture." You cross your arms. "She was a surprise."
"So-uh-so that means." Bucky points between him and the house. Not being able to get the words out. "There's no way that."
"She's not yours, Barnes." You roll your eyes at your ex boyfriend.
"But she-her eyes." He blinks.
"There are a lot of guys with blue eyes out there." You let out a light laugh. It was strangely easy for you to slip into how things were, teasing and sharing laughs was the base of your relationship with Bucky. But now, so much time has passed, and you're definitely not the same person you were back then.
"What are you guys doing here?" You look down at the floor as you ask the question.
"Someone out there has created a mind controlling substance that puts everyone in danger. And we need to stop him. We found his lab and we got some of the vials but we need your help taking him down." Sam says but you're shaking your head before he even has time to finish. "I want to form a group. The world needs us again."
"Look, Sam, I appreciate you going through all the trouble to find me but, as you can see, I have other priorities now." You look back into the house through the window to find your daughter peeking through the window.
"But-" Bucky speaks up but you stop him.
"You guys can stay the night if you'd like," you say, looking at the darkening sky. "But I'm not going back. There's a reason I left that life."
Bucky bites his tongue to stop himself from asking you what that reason was.
"Thanks for letting us stay." Sam smiles as he passes the threshold of your home.
You never thought this day would come. Seeing your daughter run around your back yard with one of your best friends.
“She’s beautiful.” Bucky comes to stand next to you, but you only hum in agreement. Words seemingly disappeared from your mind the second his scent wafted closer to you. Sandalwood and fire, clean linens with a dash of something else. So masculine, so protective. So incredibly, Bucky.
“How old is she?” He asks.
“Don’t do this to yourself.” You take a deep breath in, letting him coat your lungs.
“I just want to know.” Bucky tries to act innocently. He dissects every trait he can tell comes from you, but the rest, they look awfully similar to him. Tashi’s nose has the same bump as his and her eyes crinkle just like Bucky’s when she smiles.
“Faking was never your forte.” You smile. “She’s not your daughter Bucky.”
“Bucky.” He repeats his name like it hurts him to say. “You never used to call me that.”
“Well, I used to call you baby but I wouldn’t want Tashi to start asking questions about who my other baby is.”
Bucky lets out a laugh, it’s a low grumble that shakes his ribs. It’s been so long since he felt this peace. “I missed this,” he lets the words slip out.
“I missed this too.” You say, barely above a whisper, stopping yourself before you say that you missed him. But you did.
Every day since you left, you thought of Bucky. Of the way he used to hold you so tenderly and the kisses he gave you at night. Of how he said I love you and made it sound like the only words that existed.
But all those memories were of the past, your life before Tashi came in. And you should keep them like that.
-----
The moonlight is the only thing that illuminates Bucky as he wanders around the cabin. He didn't mean to lurk but he'd woken up from a nightmare.
Your home was different than he imagined. A lot more stuffed animals and toys and less trinkets from your past life. There were a couple of pictures here and there but they were mostly of Tashi and you.
"What are you doing up?" Bucky jumps up at the sound of her squeaky voice.
Tashi looks up at him with those goddamned eyes. They looked so much like his, it was concerning.
"I-I couldn't sleep." Bucky rubs the back of his neck.
"Do you have nightmares?" She asks so innocently. If only she knew the things he dreamed of. "I have them too."
"You do?" Bucky whispers, making her nod her little head.
"Mommy usually helps be back to sleep but I don't want to wake her up." Tashi brings a finger to her mouth, motioning for the Sergeant to keep quiet. "Don't tell her I woke up, promise?"
"Promise." Bucky brings out his pinky, wrapping it around her little finger. "I'll let you in on a little secret of mine."
Tashi's blue eyes widen, urging him to go on.
"You may not know about me but, there was a time your Mommy helped me with my nightmares." Bucky smiles at the memory.
"I know about you, silly goose." Tashi covers her giggles with her hand.
"You do?"
She nods, holding her hand out and taking him to her playroom. Sitting Bucky in an incredibly small chair. "You're the boy from my book!"
Tashi places in his hands a hand sewn felt book. The characters were a bit wonky but Bucky could immediately spot himself in the fabric.
"You're the boy with the heart of gold and the arm of steel." She says, proudly pointing to the book.
"The boy with the heart of gold and the arm of steel would save anyone, especially the people he loved," Bucky read his description on the book. "People around the world misjudged him, but that didn't stop him from being good. He proved them all wrong."
"You're my favorite character," Tashi smiles wide. "Don't tell Uncle Sam."
"Your secret is safe with me." Bucky lets out a watery smile, setting the book down on the floor. "How about you go up to your room and I can tell you a story about your mom."
"Really?" Tashi jumps up.
"Only if you promise to try and go to sleep again." Bucky raises his eyebrow, trying to appear strong but the little girl already had him wrapped around her finger.
"Under one condition," Tashi crosses her arms. "I can go outside and get my Natasha figurine."
Bucky bites down on his lip. "It's quite late to go outside."
"Please?" She pouts. "It'll only take a second."
God she looks so much like you.
"Fine." Bucky gives in. "But I'll be watching by the door, can't let you go outside all alone."
The super soldier walks behind the little girl, watching as she runs outside and sifts through the grass.
Bucky should have known something was wrong, he should have heard them lurking in the bushes. But he was too distracted by her, too distracted by the idea that this could have been his life. That in some multiverse, Tashi was his daughter and he could've retired next to the love of his life.
But he didn't. And it was too late once he realized what was happening.
Tens of agents dressed in black closed in on the cabin, running onto the property. Tashi was the first thing they grabbed.
He heard her yell out his name, but it happened in slow motion.
"No!" Bucky screamed, running towards the man who kidnapped her. "Let her go!"
Tashi's red splotched eyes was the last thing Bucky saw before they crammed her into a black van and left down the only road. His feet burned as he ran behind them, but not even Bucky was able to catch up to them.
Once he came back to the cabin, Sam and you were running around trying to understand what happened.
"I'm sorry." Bucky lets the tears run down his face. "I couldn't stop them."
You dropped to the floor with a sob.
Bucky's knees finally gave out. "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry- We're going to get her back, I promise that I'll get her back."

TAKE ME TO YOUR BEST FRIEND'S HOUSE
Tumblr media
Pairings: Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Bruce Wayne x fem! reader.
Summary: So, he might be going against "bro code". He can't help it, though; his best friend's sibling is just too cute.
A/N: Reader can be imagined as biological/adopted/found family.
Tumblr media
DICK GRAYSON & WALLY WEST
How Dick hadn't learnt to not leave his phone unattended was beyond Wally, especially when, for a vigilante, the man had such lax security for his personal phone. Nor should he have ever trusted Wally with the password.
Already drafting his absolute PR nightmare tweet on Dick's account, he's mentally rubbing his evil little hands together when his thumb hits the banner notification that pops up on the top of the screen.
My Heart: Thinking about you, come home soon xo
Alongside the text is a photo, a very suggestive photo of a woman dressed in nothing but one of Dick's hoodies. Wally knows because he bought Dick that hoodie, he's also very familiar with the woman in the photo on account of it being his baby sister.
He shrieks, the phone slipping from his slack with shock grip and landing on his big toe.
He doesn't hear the ringtone over his sudden stream of pained expletives, hopping on one foot, until he hears your voice from the speaker.
"Hey babe! You left your hoodie at - "
"YOU!" Wally screams, blubbering incoherently, pointing an accusing finger at the phone like you can see him.
"Jesus Christ," he can practically see you recoiling away from your phone, "Wally?" You've heard enough of your brother's meltdowns over the years that you can recognise him from just a single word.
"YOU, YOU - YOU HARLOT!" You snort at his words, staying silent until his stream of consciousness is finished.
"You done?" You hum, completely unphased at the tantrum Wally's just thrown for the past seven minutes.
"Am I, am I done? No, I'm not done." He squawks, "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME!" There's a beat of incredulous silence on your end.
"Excuse me? What have I done to you?"
"DEFILED THE SACRED BOND OF BROTHERHOOD IS WHAT YOU'VE DONE, HE'S MY BEST FRIEND"
"The sacred bond of brotherhood? I'm your fucking sibling, you're supposed to attack him, not me!" Wally can't help but notice how you don't deny his words.
"Oh, believe me, Dickhead is gonna get what's coming to him."
"Yeah, whatever, I'm hanging up now, tell Dick I'm getting pizza for dinner."
"Don't you dare - " He doesn't even get to finish his sentence before you've followed through.
"Hey Wally, have you seen my ... phone?" Dick trails off as he spots the item he's looking for in his agitated friend's hand.
"You don’t fuck your best friends younger sibling. That’s like the number one rule of bro code!” Wally shrieked, not greeting him like a normal person, and not giving Dick even a second to realise what was happening before he was being grabbed and shaken by his shoulders.
"I love her." No explanation, no apologies, just pure earnestness and the softest look Wally had ever seen on his friend's face.
The declaration takes all the wind out of his sails, his shoulders slumping in defeat. He drags a hand down his face slowly,
Finally, he groaned and dragged both hands down his face. "Ugh. I hate that you’re so genuine. It ruins my ability to stay mad. Barry's not going to be happy you kept this from him though."
The mental image of the Flash going protective uncle giving him the slightest bit of sick satisfaction, until Dick shatters his dreams by casually saying, "he already knows."
"He what?! Am I the last to know?" Dick makes a show of thinking about it before shrugging with an unapologetic grin.
"Kinda, yeah."
"I'M SURROUNDED BY TRAITORS!" Wally yells, sinking to his knees in defeat.
JASON TODD & ROY HARPER
Nobody had ever accused Roy of being a detective. He might not be as smart as the bats (an impossible hurdle in Roy's opinion), but he wasn't completely fucking stupid.
An unfortunate reality for his sister, who he'd caught sneaking into the Titans Tower at the ripe time of 4:47 am, wearing a familiar leather jacket with a bullet hole in the sleeve. A jacket that could only mean one of two things.
You had joined a biker gang.
You were dating Jason Todd, AKA, his best friend, AKA dead fucking meat.
Because while option one terrified him, he'd still prefer it to the option he had a sinking suspicion about was actually correct.
The next afternoon, he finds Jason working out in the Tower's gym, and he grins wickedly. Bastard didn't even have to make Roy track him down.
"Hey, Roy." Jason greets, never once faltering in his reps, entirely unbothered, like he hadn’t committed emotional treason.
Roy thinks he could be forgiven for his following action, he could have done a lot worse than picking up the nearest kettlebell and throwing it at his unsuspecting friend.
"WHAT THE FUCK ROY?" Jason screeched as he dove for cover.
"YOU’RE DATING MY SISTER?!"
"Um, what?" He squeaks, before clearing his throat, "I mean... I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Don't try to gaslight me!" Roy jabbed a finger at him, seething. "You're supposed to be my best friend, and you went and... and started... canoodling my sister."
Jason’s brows shot up in amusement despite himself. "Canoodling?"
"Don't try and deflect either." Roy flushed as red as his hair.
"I’m not—well. Okay. I am. But in my defense, it wasn’t like I planned to fall for your sister."
"Have you kissed?"
Jason contemplates lying but bites the bullet and nods.
Roy gasped like an old lady hearing someone say cunt. "ON PURPOSE?!"
Jason gave him a flat look. "No, Roy, I tripped and fell. Of course, it was on purpose. More than once, too." He smirks, unable to stop himself from prodding the bear.
Roy spasms.
"Ok, let's not make this weird." Jason huffs.
"Make this weird? It's already weird, we're neck deep in it, NAY!, We're drowning in it!"
"Oh dear god," Jason sighs, squeezing his eyes shut and speaking before he can think better of it, "I love her."
Roy chokes, Jason startles, clearly surprising, even himself, "Oh my god, I love her."
There's a heavy, pained silence before Roy croaks "... Bro"
"I know." Jason tugged at the roots of his hair.
"…BRO." Roy was trying to prevent a panic attack, his panic fuelling Jason's.
"I know."
"You love me?" A slightly giddy voice breathes from the doorway.
Both men groan for different reasons as they spot you bouncing toward them.
"Babe, I -"
"I love you too," you beam, throwing your arms around Jason's neck and kissing him like your life depends on it.
Roy gags, forcing you to pull away. "God, this is gonna ruin every group hang for the rest of my life." He whined.
"Nah. You’ll get used to me kissing your sister in front of you."
"I SWEAR TO GOD —"
TIM DRAKE & CONNER KENT
Conner's knee is jiggling furiously. From across the room, Cassie raises a questioning brow, but Conner makes no effort to stop as he checks the time for the fourth time in less than three minutes.
You're late. So is Tim, but it's not him Conner's worried about. You're never late; you've always been a perpetually early person, and you always get so anxious if you aren't. Conner knows, having been on the receiving end of your time-anxious meltdowns more than once.
"Dude, calm down, they're not even five minutes late yet," Bart says, looking at him as if he's the weird one here, when clearly, something terrible has happened to you.
You've been in a car accident (you don't drive), you've been shot, (you're bulletproof), you've been taken hostage by Lex Luthor (plausible), you've -
"Hi guys, sorry I’m late, I slept through my alarm." You laugh bashfully, avoiding Conner's gaze, which narrows in suspicion.
"That never happens." He scowls, his enhanced hearing picking up the slight stutter in your heartbeat.
"Well, it did today." You rolled your eyes, crossing the room to sit next to Cassie.
Barely two minutes later, a harried-looking Tim scurries through the door, brushing his sweaty hair from his face, and in doing so, accidentally reveals a hickey just beneath the neckline of his shirt.
It's only for a second, but that one second is all he needs to connect the dots.
"No." He says, glaring at Tim as everyone else, including you, watches in confusion.
"No?" Tim repeats.
"NO!" Conner snarls, jumping up from his seat and pulling down the neckline of Tim's shirt to display not one, but three love bites.
"YOU’RE SLEEPING WITH MY SISTER?!"
"Technically, there wasn't much sleeping involved - " Tim mutters, with absolutely zero regard for his well-being.
"I trusted you with my life, and you go behind my back to DEFLOWER MY INNOCENT BABY SISTER?!"
"You're the same age?" Tim mumbles at the same time you scoff.
"Deflower? Innocent? Are we living in the Middle Ages? Are you my owner?"
"Stay out of this!" Conner whirls on you, his gaze dangerously red.
"Stay out of my own sex life?" You guffaw, ignoring the way Conner puffs up like an angry cat. "Besides, Tim's hardly my first."
Your words are enough to shock your brother enough that he drops Tim, reeling back with a hand on his chest like he's suffering a heart attack.
You take the opportunity to scoop your partner into your arms, flying away before Kon can recover, until you reach the safety of the bed you've both only just left.
"I think he's actually going to kill me." Tim mumbles, burying his face in your chest.
"Hmm, guess you''ll just have to keep me around forever, for protection."
"Sounds perfect." Tim dreamily says, clutching you even tighter in contentment.
BRUCE WAYNE & CLARK KENT
Once, there would have been a time when interviewing Gotham’s Bruce Wayne would have left him an anxious wreck, but now, Clark relished in the opportunity. Giddy that his best friend, no matter how much the man denied it, would turn to him (him! A Metropolis interloper), instead of someone like that tart Vicki Vale.
(That thought has him mentally apologising to his ma for his crudeness, but what she wouldn't know, couldn't hurt her.)
Needless to say, Clark was excited to have been given the chance, and he refused to squander it.
They were in Bruce's "office," a room they both knew he hardly ever even stepped foot inside, but had occupied to keep up the facade.
A brilliant facade it was, Clark thought in amusement, as he watched Brucie Wayne ramble on earnestly. Nobody would ever suspect the man, reaching for his wallet to pull out a picture of his kids in an interview on Wayne Enterprises' newest ventures, to be the fearsome Batman.
Clark, ever affable, just smiles, nodding along until a second picture flutters onto the desk. Bruce freezes, his perfected mask slipping just a fraction, but enough for Clark to notice as the unshakeable man's eyes widen in sheer panic.
Bruce was composed. He was always in control, a master of self-control. Bruce was unflappable, he had a plan for everything.
Bruce, evidently, did not have a plan, beyond freezing in horror, for when an intimate Polaroid of his girlfriend, Clark's sister, landed face up on the table between them.
You're wearing one of his button-up shirts, seated sideways across Bruce's lap, the man's large hand clasped over your thigh, as you stare up at him like he's your whole world.
Clark paused, staring at the photo on the desk like it was a live grenade.
Bruce, very carefully, snuck a hand out to retrieve it. Only to be thwarted by Clark's superspeed. He holds it between his thumb and his index finger like it might bite him, the blinding grin never once fading from his face.
Bruce thinks it's the most terrifying Clark has ever looked.
There's a long pause, with Bruce mentally calculating how long it will take before he has some Kryptonite on his hands and whetehr or not Clark will flatten him before then.
"Oh my god," Clark said.
Bruce grimaced. "It's not what it looks like."
"It looks like you're dating my sister."
"Ok, it's exactly what it looks like, but—" He cuts off once more as Clark speaks with surprising giddiness.
"You carry her around in your wallet. Like a real boyfriend, it's sickeningly sweet."
Bruce opened his mouth, closing it and opening it again repeatedly like a stunned fish as he blushed a brilliant red.
Clark wasn’t finished; if anything, he looked like Christmas had come early.
"Is there more?" Bruce stiffens, "There is! Do you have a shrine? I bet you have a shrine!"
"Clark."
"Is it in the batcave?"
"Clark."
"What about a scrapbook? Is she on the manor walls yet?"
"Clark."
"Do your kids know? Wait, am I the last to know?!" He seemed genuinely hurt by that thought.
Bruce looked up at the ceiling like it could save him from the confrontation; he thinks he'd rather fight than... whatever the hell, it is Clark's doing.

The Idiot I Call Mine - Lando Norris x BestFriend! Reader
Tumblr media
summary: best friends are supposed to share laughs, inside jokes, fries and the occasional late-night drive. what they’re not supposed to do is flirt like it’s a competitive sport or make you question every unspoken rule of friendship. at least, unless your name is Lando Norris apparently. (7.1k words)
content: fluff! friends to lovers; flirty dynamic; mutual pining
an: whaaat? a fic about another driver? yes loves. this is me coming forward as a secret Lando fan. I hope you'll enjoy as much as I did writing this :)
------------------------------------------------------
Lando Norris has this annoying habit of always being right. It’s not even about anything important—it’s just little things. Like the time he guessed exactly how long it would take before I caved and ordered dessert, or when he said I’d end up watching a rom-com tonight even though I claimed I wanted “something deep and meaningful.”
“See?” he said smugly, leaning back on the couch as the opening credits of The Holiday  played. “I know you better than you know yourself.”
“Hardly,” I shot back, tossing a piece of popcorn at him. “You just know I have a weak spot for Jude Law. That doesn’t make you psychic.”
“No, but it does make me an excellent best friend.” He winked, plucking the popcorn off his lap and popping it into his mouth like the show-off he was.
I rolled my eyes, pretending I wasn’t fighting a grin. Lando and I had been inseparable for years, the kind of best friends who finished each other’s sentences and shared a borderline unhealthy obsession with late-night McDonald’s runs. But lately, something had been… different.
Not bad, exactly. Just different. Maybe? I wasn’t even sure to be honest.
“You’re staring again,” Lando said, breaking into my thoughts. He was sprawled out on the couch, one arm draped over the backrest in a way that felt entirely too casual and yet completely deliberate. His green eyes sparkled with mischief, and his smirk was the kind that could make even the most confident person question their sanity.
“I wasn’t staring,” I lied, grabbing a handful of popcorn and shoving it in my mouth for good measure.
“You were absolutely staring,” he teased, leaning closer. “What’s on your mind, hmm? Thinking about how devastatingly handsome I am? It’s okay—you can admit it.”
“You’re such a joke,” I said, trying to sound unimpressed but failing miserably. “Devastatingly handsome? Please. You look like you just rolled out of bed.”
“Exactly,” he said, flashing a grin. “And yet, here you are, spending your Friday night with me. Interesting choice.”
“I’m here for the popcorn,” I deadpanned, though even I didn’t believe myself. “And because you begged me.”
“I didn’t beg,” he protested. “I suggested strongly. There’s a difference.”
This was us—lighthearted insults, jokes at each other’s expense, and an ease in our conversations that felt like home. If there was something different lately, I told myself it was just my imagination running wild.
“Speaking of choices,” I said, leaning back against the couch. “What’s the deal with you and your phone wallpaper?”
“What about it?” he asked, feigning innocence.
“Oh, come on, Lando,” I said, narrowing my eyes. “You really expect me to believe you just happened to pick a picture of me for your wallpaper?”
“It’s a great photo,” he said with a shrug. “You look happy. And let’s not pretend your wallpaper isn’t me.”
I froze, caught. He was right—my wallpaper was him, but that wasn’t the point.
“That’s different,” I said quickly. “You look stupid in yours. It’s funny.”
“Ah, so I’m your personal clown now?” he asked, his voice dripping with mock offense. “Good to know my humiliation brings you joy.”
“Always,” I said sweetly, tossing another piece of popcorn his way.
The movie played on in the background, but neither of us was really paying attention. We were too busy pushing each other’s buttons, like always.
“Hey,” Lando said after a while, his tone a little softer. “You’re coming to dinner at Mum’s next weekend, right?”
“Do I have a choice?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Not really,” he said with a grin. “She’s already planning the menu. Something with pasta, probably. You know how she gets when you’re coming over.”
I smiled despite myself. His family had always treated me like one of their own, and his mum had a knack for making me feel special in ways that were both comforting and overwhelming.
“Well, in that case,” I said, pretending to think it over. “I guess I can clear my schedule.”
“Good,” he said, nudging me with his elbow. “I’d be bored without you there.”
It was moments like this—simple and familiar—that stuck with me longer than they should. The way he said things so casually, as if they didn’t carry any weight, even when they somehow did.
“You’ve got something on your face,” I said suddenly, trying to distract myself.
“Where?” he asked, leaning closer.
“Right there,” I said, tapping the corner of my mouth.
He smirked, deliberately licking the spot where I’d pointed. “Better?”
“Ugh, you’re insufferable,” I said, shoving him away. But I was laughing, and so was he.
“You love it,” he said, and for once, I didn’t argue. Because maybe I did.
As the night went on, the teasing continued, each remark more loaded than the last. By the time the credits rolled, I wasn’t sure if it was the movie or Lando’s lingering glances that had me feeling so off-kilter.
“You’re awfully quiet tonight,” he said, breaking the silence as he stood to clean up the popcorn bowl. “Something on your mind?”
“Just thinking,” I said vaguely, not meeting his gaze.
“About?” he pressed, leaning against the counter with a smirk that said he already knew the answer.
“Nothing important,” I said, grabbing my phone and pretending to scroll.
“Liar,” he said, his voice playful but probing. “You’re terrible at hiding things, you know that?”
I glanced up at him, my heart doing that annoying fluttery thing it had been doing lately. He was standing there like he had all the time in the world, his green eyes locked on mine, and for a moment, I forgot how to breathe.
“Goodnight, Lando,” I said finally, brushing past him on my way to the couch.
“Goodnight, Y/N,” he called after me, his voice laced with amusement.
“You know, for someone who claims to be an athlete, you spend an alarming amount of time eating,” I said, glancing at Lando over the top of my menu.
“Carbs are fuel,” he replied, flashing me a grin. “You wouldn’t understand.”
“I understand that we could’ve gone somewhere normal instead of whatever this place is,” I said, gesturing to the overly fancy restaurant. The kind of place where the wine glasses sparkled brighter than the chandeliers, and the menu was full of words I couldn’t pronounce.
“You’re so ungrateful,” he teased, leaning back in his chair. “Do you know how hard it was to get a table here? I had to name-drop myself.”
“Wow,” I said dryly. “The struggle.”
“Exactly. And now you’re here, about to enjoy the finest pasta in town, thanks to me. A little gratitude wouldn’t kill you.”
“Gratitude? You dragged me here under false pretenses. You said this was a ‘low-key spot.’”
“It is low-key,” he argued, gesturing around. “For Monte Carlo standards.”
I rolled my eyes but couldn’t stop the smile creeping onto my face. This was just how things were with Lando—effortless, easy, and borderline ridiculous.
“Alright, what are you getting?” Lando asked, lowering his menu.
“Fettuccine Alfredo,” I said without hesitation.
“Of course you are,” he said, smirking. “Predictable.”
“Oh, I’m sorry,” I shot back. “What are you getting, then? Something groundbreaking? Life-changing? Revolutionary?”
“Tagliatelle al tartufo,” he said with a mockingly posh accent.
“Wow,” I said, feigning awe. “Truffle pasta. You’re really pushing the boundaries, Norris.”
“Don’t be jealous just because I have sophisticated taste,” he replied, the smirk never leaving his face.
“‘Sophisticated’ is one way to put it,” I muttered, pretending to study the menu again. “Another is ‘pretentious.’”
“You’ll be begging for a bite,” he said confidently, setting the menu down.
“Please,” I said, scoffing. “You’ll be stealing mine before the plates even hit the table.”
He leaned forward, his grin widening. “You know me so well.”
The food arrived soon after, and, as predicted, we switched plates halfway through without even discussing it. It was second nature by now, like so many other things about us.
“You know,” Lando said, twirling a forkful of fettuccine, “if this whole racing thing doesn’t work out, I could be a food critic.”
“Sure,” I said, deadpan. “Because people are dying to know what Lando Norris thinks about pasta.”
“They would be,” he said, undeterred. “My palate is unparalleled.”
“Your palate consists of pizza, chicken nuggets, and whatever I’m eating,” I shot back.
“And yet, here we are,” he said, gesturing to the table. “Me, enjoying this culinary masterpiece, and you, enjoying my company. Life is good.”
It was shaping up to be another night of easy conversation and mindless teasing until a voice interrupted us.
“Lando?”
I looked up to see two women standing at the edge of our table. They were both tall, blonde, and effortlessly elegant, the kind of women who looked like they belonged in a magazine spread rather than real life.
“Oh, hey!” Lando said, his face lighting up in recognition.
I glanced at him, watching as his entire demeanor shifted ever so slightly. He straightened up, his grin widening just enough to make my stomach twist.
“We haven’t seen you in forever,” one of the women said, her smile bright and practiced.
“I know,” Lando said, leaning back in his chair like he had all the time in the world. “It’s been a while.”
“You look great,” one of them said, her smile bright as she leaned in a little too close.
“So do you,” Lando replied, his tone polite but just warm enough to make me suddenly very interested in my water glass. The conversation floated around me, full of laughter and inside jokes I didn’t understand.
“And who’s this?” one of them finally asked, her gaze flicking to me with polite curiosity.
“This is Y/N,” Lando said, gesturing toward me with a casualness that felt too deliberate. “My best friend.”
Best friend. There it was again.
“Nice to meet you,” I said, forcing a smile that didn’t quite reach my eyes.
“Likewise,” she replied, her tone perfectly pleasant.
They didn’t linger much longer—just enough to leave their mark before excusing themselves with a wave and a promise to “catch up soon.”
“Old friends of yours?” I asked once they were gone, my voice light but with a slight edge.
“Something like that,” Lando said, taking a sip of his water.
“Something like that?” I repeated, raising an eyebrow.
He shrugged, his smirk returning. “They’re sisters. I, uh… may have had a thing with both of them. At different times, obviously.”
My fork froze midair. “Both of them?”
“Don’t look at me like that,” he said, laughing. “It’s not that weird.”
“It’s incredibly weird,” I said, shaking my head.
“I mean, it didn’t overlap or anything,” he added, as if that somehow made it better. “But yeah… sisters.”
I stared at him, equal parts amused and horrified. “That’s… impressive? I guess?”
“Thank you,” he said, grinning like he’d just been handed an award. “Think I should call them again?”
“Sure,” I forced a laugh, stabbing at my pasta. “And then ask if they have any other sisters you might’ve missed.”
He chuckled, clearly oblivious to the sarcasm in my tone. “Good idea. Always room for a hat trick.”
My stomach churned uncomfortably, but I didn’t say anything. Instead, I focused on my plate, hoping he wouldn’t notice the way my mood had shifted.
The paddock was its usual chaotic self—teams rushing to prepare for practice sessions, fans peering over barriers for a glimpse of their favorite drivers, and media personnel darting between interviews. I decided to escape the madness for a bit, heading toward the staff catering building for a much-needed coffee.
The line was mercifully short, but as I joined it, I noticed someone already waiting near the front. Tall, dark-haired, and wearing a Ferrari polo with his name—Marco—stitched neatly on the chest. He turned slightly, catching my eye and offering a polite smile.
“Busy morning?” he asked, his tone warm and conversational.
“Something like that,” I replied with a small smile. “You?”
“Always,” he said with a soft chuckle. “But coffee makes it manageable, no?”
I nodded. “A universal truth.”
Marco stepped aside to let me order, a gesture so casual it almost went unnoticed. As I gave my order to the barista, I felt him glance at me again—not invasive, just curious.
“So, not Ferrari,” he said after I stepped back to wait for my coffee.
“Is it that obvious?” I joked.
“A little,” he admitted, his grin widening. “You’re far too relaxed to be one of us.”
“Should I be offended or flattered?” I asked, tilting my head playfully.
“Flattered,” he said easily. “Relaxed is a good thing.”
We fell into an easy rhythm as we waited. Marco was effortlessly charming, asking questions without prying and tossing in a few self-deprecating remarks about Ferrari’s chaos.
“You’re here with a team?” he asked eventually.
“A friend,” I said vaguely.
“Lucky friend,” he said, his tone light but genuine.
I laughed softly. “That’s what everyone keeps telling me.”
Marco opened his mouth to respond, but before he could, a familiar voice cut through the hum of conversation.
“There you are.”
I turned to see Lando approaching, his expression relaxed but his eyes sharper than usual.
“Hey,” I said, surprised. “I thought you were doing media.”
“Finished early,” he said, stepping closer. His gaze flicked briefly to Marco, who stood quietly by my side. “And I figured I’d find you here.”
“Good instincts,” I said lightly, though something about his sudden appearance felt… deliberate.
Marco offered his hand to Lando, ever polite. “Marco. Ferrari engineering.”
“Lando,” he replied, shaking his hand. “McLaren driving.”
Marco chuckled. “I know who you are. Good to meet you.”
“You too,” Lando said, his tone friendly but with an edge I couldn’t quite place.
The barista called my name, and I turned to grab my coffee, giving them a moment to exchange polite words. By the time I returned, Marco was stepping away with his own drink.
“Enjoy the rest of your day,” he said, offering me a small wave before disappearing into the crowd.
Lando watched him go before turning back to me. “Who was that?”
“Marco,” I said simply.
“And what was Marco talking to you about?” he asked, his tone too casual to be entirely innocent.
I raised an eyebrow. “Coffee, mostly. Why?”
“No reason,” he said quickly, taking a sip of my drink.
I studied him for a moment, noting the way his shoulders tensed ever so slightly. “You’re acting weird.”
“I’m not acting weird,” he said defensively.
“You’re definitely acting weird.”
Lando sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “Alright, fine. I didn’t like the way he was looking at you.”
“What are you talking about?” I asked, genuinely baffled.
“He was flirting,” Lando said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
I blinked. “He was being nice.”
“Nice,” Lando repeated, his voice laced with skepticism. “Sure. That’s one way to put it.”
“Lando, he’s just a guy who works for Ferrari,” I said, shaking my head.
“Exactly,” he said, as if that proved his point.
There was a beat of silence as I processed his words.
“You sound jealous,” I said finally, testing the waters.
“Jealous?” he scoffed, though the flicker of something in his eyes gave him away. “Hardly. I just think you can do way better than some guy who chats you up in the coffee line.”
I rolled my eyes. “You’re being ridiculous.”
“Am I?” he asked, smirking now.
“Yes,” I said firmly, though the warmth in my chest betrayed me.
We walked back toward the McLaren garage, his mood lightening with every step. By the time we arrived, he was back to his usual self—chatting with the mechanics and laughing at some joke I’d already missed.
But his words stayed with me, replaying in my mind as I sat down with my coffee. My coffee which Lando had somehow already drank half of.
The McLaren lounge was a rare oasis of calm in the chaos of a race weekend. Engineers hustled past the windows, radios crackled with updates, and somewhere in the distance, an engine roared to life. But in here, it was all plush couches, soft lighting, and a distinct lack of urgency.
I was curled up on one end of the couch, flipping through a magazine, while Oscar and Lando lounged on the other side. Lando, as usual, couldn’t sit still. He was draped sideways over the armrest, absently spinning a water bottle in his hands.
“Alright,” Lando announced, breaking the comfortable silence. “Would you rather fight one horse-sized duck or a hundred duck-sized horses?”
I looked up from my magazine, narrowing my eyes. “That’s the best you’ve got?”
“It’s an important question,” he insisted, his grin wide and mischievous.
I pretended to ponder for a moment. “One horse-sized duck. Definitely.”
Lando gaped at me like I’d just declared something outrageous. “Terrible answer. Absolutely terrible.”
“It’s the smart answer,” I shot back, sitting up straighter. “You outmaneuver one big target instead of exhausting yourself trying to wrangle a hundred tiny ones.”
“Do you even know how terrifying a horse-sized duck would be?” Lando asked, his voice rising in mock disbelief.
“And do you know how terrifying a hundred duck-sized horses would be?” I countered, raising an eyebrow.
Lando leaned forward, his grin widening. “Oh, come on. You’re telling me you’d rather face one giant, angry duck with a wingspan bigger than this couch?”
“Absolutely,” I said confidently. “Ducks aren’t that scary.”
“They can bite, you know,” he shot back, gesturing dramatically. “One snap, and you’re done for.”
I smirked, leaning closer. “I think I’d survive. Besides, I have a secret weapon.”
“What’s that?” he asked, his eyes narrowing playfully.
“You,” I said, deadpan. “I’ll just toss you in its path and run.”
Lando gasped, clutching his chest in mock betrayal. “Wow. That’s cold, Y/N. I thought we were a team.”
“We are,” I said, grinning. “But only if you pick the right answer next time.”
For a moment, he was quiet, his grin faltering just slightly as he met my gaze. It wasn’t much, just a flicker of something softer beneath the banter. But it was enough to make my stomach do that annoying little flip I’d been trying to ignore.
“Lando,” Oscar interjected, his tone casual but pointed. “You’re staring.”
“I am not,” Lando said quickly, his ears turning the faintest shade of pink as he looked away.
“You are,” Oscar said, leaning back with a smirk.
“You’re imagining things,” Lando muttered, crossing his arms.
Oscar snorted but didn’t press the issue, instead grabbing his phone and scrolling through it idly. But the look he shot Lando wasn’t lost on me—or Lando, for that matter.
As the banter settled into silence, I decided to grab a drink from the catering area, leaving the two of them alone.
The moment the door swung shut behind me, Oscar struck. “Mate, you’re not exactly subtle, you know.”
“About what?” Lando asked, feigning innocence as he fidgeted with the water bottle.
Oscar didn’t even look up from his phone. “About Y/N.”
“What about her?”
Oscar set his phone down, leveling Lando with a knowing look. “You’re acting like a lovesick puppy every time she’s around.”
Lando scoffed, though the tips of his ears betrayed him again. “That’s ridiculous. We’re just friends.”
“Sure,” Oscar said, dragging out the word like he was savoring it. “That’s why you light up like a Christmas tree whenever she walks in the room.”
“I do not,” Lando said defensively, but his voice lacked conviction.
“You do,” Oscar replied, leaning back with an exaggerated sigh. “Mate, you’re glaring holes into the back of her head every time she talks to someone else. And don’t even get me started on how you were watching her during the duck-and-horse debate like she’d just solved world peace.”
“That’s—” Lando started, then stopped, rubbing the back of his neck. “It’s not like that.”
“Right,” Oscar said, his smirk firmly in place. “It’s exactly like that, but go off.”
Lando opened his mouth, then closed it again, clearly searching for the right words. “It’s… we’ve known each other forever. It’s Y/N.”
Oscar nodded, as if that made sense, but his smirk didn’t waver. “Don’t you think it would be time to change that soon? You two are exhausting.”
Lando shot him a look, but there was no real heat behind it.
“I’m just saying,” Oscar said, holding his hands up in mock surrender. “You’re completely gone for her. Admit it already.”
Lando groaned, leaning back against the couch and running a hand through his hair. “You’re the worst, you know that?”
“Yeah,” Oscar said, grinning now. “But I’m right.”
Lando didn’t respond, his gaze drifting to the door where I’d just left. And for the first time, he let himself wonder if maybe—just maybe—Oscar was onto something.
The moment we walked into George’s celebration, the energy hit like a wave. The room was packed with familiar faces—drivers, engineers, and friends—dressed to the nines in that effortless way people in motorsport always seemed to manage. String lights twinkled across the ceiling, soft jazz played over the speakers, and a steady hum of conversation filled the air.
“You’re going to owe me for this,” I teased, glancing at Lando. “Dragging me here after wasting twenty minutes deciding between two identical shirts.”
“They weren’t identical,” Lando replied with a roll of his eyes, his hand resting lightly on the small of my back as we weaved through the crowd. “One had a darker stitch.”
“Completely life-changing,” I said dryly, though I couldn’t help the small smile tugging at my lips.
“See? You get it,” he shot back with a grin, steering us toward a booth near the bar.
The way his hand lingered, warm and steady, was something I tried not to think too much about. It was just Lando being Lando—playful, touchy, and completely oblivious to the little flips my stomach insisted on doing whenever he leaned too close.
We found our way to a booth not far from the bar, where Alexandra and Charles were already seated. Charles was gesturing animatedly about something, while Alexandra sat with her usual poised grace, sipping champagne. When she saw us, her face lit up.
“Enfin, vous êtes là !” Alexandra exclaimed, waving us over. (Finally, you’re here!)
“Lando a changé de chemise trois fois,” I replied, throwing him a look. (Lando changed his shirt three times.)
Charles chuckled, leaning back with a smirk. “Toujours dramatique, hein ?” (Always dramatic, huh?)
“English,” Lando whined as we slid into the booth. “You’re ganging up on me in French. It’s not fair.”
“Pauvre bébé,” I teased, patting his arm lightly. (Poor baby.)
“Whatever that means,” he muttered, though the grin tugging at his lips made it clear he wasn’t upset.
The conversation flowed easily between the four of us. Lando, of course, dominated the chatter, weaving an elaborate story about George’s awkward rookie days. His expressions were so animated, his gestures so over-the-top, that even Charles—usually the calm and composed one—was cracking up by the end.
“That’s not true,” I said, nudging Lando with my elbow. “You’re exaggerating again.”
“I’m not!” he protested, his green eyes wide with mock innocence. “It’s all true. Every word.”
“Sure it is,” I replied, raising an eyebrow.
“Back me up here!” he said, turning to Charles.
Charles raised a brow, taking a deliberate sip of his drink. “I wasn’t there, but… I wouldn’t put it past him.”
Alexandra laughed softly, glancing at me. “Toujours l’acteur dramatique, ce Lando.” (Always the drama actor, that Lando.)
“Hey,” Lando said, pointing at her. “I know that wasn’t a compliment.”
I smirked, leaning closer. “It absolutely wasn’t.”
He gasped dramatically, his hand over his chest. “Betrayed by my own friends. I’ll never recover.”
“You’ll survive,” I said, brushing him off, though the warmth in his gaze lingered just a beat too long.
Lando eventually excused himself to grab drinks, leaving me to chat with Alexandra and Charles. As soon as he was out of earshot, Alexandra leaned in, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
“Il est tellement évident qu’il a un faible pour toi,” she said softly, her voice full of amusement. (It’s so obvious he has a thing for you.)
“Quoi?” I asked, my cheeks heating instantly. (What?)
“Ouvre les yeux,” she said, smirking. (Open your eyes.)
Charles chuckled, sipping his drink as he watched the exchange. “C’est écrit partout sur son visage.” (It’s written all over his face.)
“Stop,” I said, shaking my head. “You’re imagining things.”
Alexandra raised an eyebrow but didn’t argue, her expression saying everything her words didn’t.
At the bar, Lando was cornered by Carlos, who leaned casually against the counter, his expression smug.
“You know,” Carlos said, his tone casual, “you’re not very subtle.”
“What are you talking about?” Lando asked, though his focus kept drifting toward the booth where I was sitting.
Carlos raised his drink, gesturing toward me. “You’ve been staring at her all night, hermano. Why don’t you just tell her how you feel?”
Lando stiffened, his grin faltering. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Just tell her,” Carlos said, swirling his drink lazily.
“It’s not that simple,” Lando replied, his voice quieter now.
Carlos raised an eyebrow. “Why not?”
“Because if I mess this up, I lose her,” Lando admitted, glancing toward our booth.
Carlos tilted his head, studying him. “You’re scared. That’s what this is.”
“Of course I’m scared,” Lando muttered, running a hand through his hair. “She’s my best friend. If it doesn’t work—”
“You’ll never know if you don’t try,” Carlos interrupted, his voice softer now. “But you’d better do something soon.”
Carlos’s smirk softened slightly, but before Lando could reply, Liam Lawson appeared at the bar.
“Who’s the girl with Charles and Alexandra?” Liam asked, nodding toward the booth. “She single?”
Carlos grinned mischievously. “Yeah, she is—go for it.”
Lando’s head snapped toward Carlos, his glare sharp enough to cut glass. “Carlos.”
“What?” Carlos said, feigning innocence. “Just giving the kid a shot.”
Liam approached with the kind of confidence that only a Red Bull driver could pull off.
“Hey,” he said, sliding into the seat across from me. “You’re Y/N, right?”
I blinked, momentarily surprised but recovering quickly. “That’s me. And you are?”
“Liam Lawson,” he said, extending a hand.
I shook it, his grip firm but not overbearing. “Nice to meet you.”
“How do you know George?” he asked, leaning forward slightly, his elbows resting on the table as if he had all the time in the world.
“Through Lando,” I replied, keeping my tone polite but measured. His easy demeanor was almost disarming, but there was something about the way he looked at me that made me hyper-aware of my surroundings.
“Ah, Lando,” he said with a soft chuckle. “Lucky guy. You two seem pretty close.”
“We’ve been friends for a long time,” I said simply, taking a sip of my drink and trying not to overthink his comment.
“Well,” he said, tilting his head slightly, “his loss if he hasn’t made a move yet.”
That caught me off guard. My gaze flicked to his, searching for any hint of a joke, but he was entirely serious—or at least good at pretending to be.
“Excuse me?” I asked, my voice betraying my surprise.
Liam grinned wider, clearly enjoying himself. “Just saying. If I were him, I wouldn’t be sitting over there, letting someone else steal your attention.”
The comment was bold, and I didn’t quite know how to respond. My thoughts were a mess of confusion, flattery, and something else I didn’t want to name. Before I could formulate a response, the familiar sound of Lando’s voice cut through the air.
“Liam,” he said smoothly, stepping up to the table. His tone was calm, but his green eyes held a sharpness that made me sit up a little straighter.
Liam glanced up, raising an eyebrow. “What’s up?”
“Christian’s looking for you,” Lando said, his tone casual but firm. “Something about debrief notes.”
Liam frowned, clearly reluctant. “Now?”
“Yeah,” Lando said, nodding. “He seemed pretty keen.”
Liam hesitated, his gaze flicking between me and Lando like he was weighing his options. Finally, he sighed, pushing himself to his feet. “Alright. Nice meeting you, Y/N.”
“You too,” I replied, watching him leave with a mixture of relief and something I couldn’t quite pin down.
As soon as he was out of earshot, Lando lingered for a moment, his hands shoved into his pockets as he avoided my gaze.
“That,” Charles said, his tone thick with amusement, “was the lamest excuse I’ve ever heard.”
Lando shot him a glare, his ears turning faintly red. “Mind your own business, Charles.”
Charles just smirked, raising his glass in mock surrender. “Whatever you say.”
I didn’t say anything, but a flicker of suspicion settled in the back of my mind.
Had Lando just…? No. That would be ridiculous. Wouldn’t it?
“Let’s get a drink,” Alexandra said, pulling me to my feet.
As Alexandra and I made our way back toward the booth, she nudged me gently, her eyes glinting with curiosity.
“Lando looked like he was about to breathe fire earlier,” she said casually, sipping her drink.
I laughed softly, trying to deflect. “He’s always protective. It’s nothing.”
“Protective?” Alexandra repeated, raising an eyebrow. “That was not protective, chérie. That was jealousy.”
I opened my mouth to respond but stopped short as we neared the booth, Lando and Charles’s voices filtering through the hum of the room.
“It will just be awkward, mate,” Lando said, his tone low and almost resigned.
“Just talk about it,” Charles replied simply.
“It’s not that simple,” Lando muttered. “She will never be more than just a friend.”
The words hit me like a punch to the stomach. My chest tightened, and the air around me seemed to still. Alexandra’s hand touched my arm gently, but I barely noticed.
“I— I need some air,” I managed, turning away before she could respond.
The ache in my chest grew with every step I took, his words echoing in my head.
She will never be more than just a friend.
And just like that, everything I thought I’d imagined felt painfully real.
I turned my phone face down on the table at Gigi’s, willing myself not to glance at the screen again. The missed calls from Lando were piling up, his name lighting up my notifications every half hour like clockwork. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to talk to him—I did. But every time I thought about his voice, his laugh, his damn words, the ache in my chest tightened.
She will never be more than just a friend.
I shook my head, forcing the thought away as the waiter arrived with my order. The smell of rich, cheesy pasta wafted up, comforting in the way only food could be. I twirled a forkful absentmindedly, hoping the carbs would somehow fill the space that had been hollowed out the night before.
The familiar growl of an engine outside pulled my attention from my plate. I glanced toward the window and froze.
The unmistakable silhouette of Lando’s Miura parked just outside, sleek and shining even under the soft glow of streetlights. A moment later, the door opened, and there he was, stepping out effortless as usual—but his expression wasn’t the easygoing grin I was used to. He looked… worried.
Before I could decide what to do, he spotted me through the window, his shoulders relaxing ever so slightly. He pushed through the door, his eyes locking onto mine immediately.
“There you are,” he said, relief evident in his tone as he approached my table.
I blinked, caught off guard. “Lando? What are you doing here?”
He pulled out the chair across from me, sitting down without asking. “Looking for you.”
My heart twisted. “Why?”
“Because you’ve been ignoring me all day,” he said, his voice quieter now.
I looked away, focusing on my fork. “I had my phone off that’s all.”
He didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he leaned back in his chair, studying me with an intensity that made my skin prickle.
“I knew I’d find you here,” he said finally, his voice softer but steady.
I glanced up, frowning. “What?”
“You always turn to cheesy Italian food when you’re upset,” he said with a small smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “It’s your thing.”
The casual observation caught me off guard, a mix of warmth and frustration bubbling in my chest.
“So what?” I said, my tone sharper than I intended. “You’re some kind of expert on me now?”
He sighed, leaning forward, his elbows resting on the table. “Y/N, I know you better than anyone. And I know something’s wrong.”
I didn’t answer, twisting my fork in the pasta and pretending to be engrossed in my meal. But the usual comfort it brought was absent, replaced by the uncomfortable weight of his gaze.
“You’re not yourself,” Lando said after a moment, his voice quieter now. “What’s going on?”
“Nothing,” I said quickly, my tone clipped.
“Don’t lie to me,” he replied, his tone more serious than I was used to.
I set my fork down, the clink of metal against porcelain louder than it should have been. “Maybe I just don’t feel like talking.”
His eyes softened, his frustration giving way to concern. “Y/N…”
“Lando, I’m fine,” I interrupted, though the words felt hollow.
He didn’t push further, but I could see the gears turning in his head. He sat back, glancing down at my half-finished plate of pasta before gesturing to the waiter.
“Can we get the check, please?” he asked, pulling out his wallet.
I frowned. “What are you doing?”
“Paying,” he said simply, standing as the waiter approached.
“For me?”
“Yes,” he said, looking down at me with an expression I couldn’t quite read. “Come on.”
“Come on where?” I asked, my brow furrowing.
“You’ll see,” he said, extending a hand.
I hesitated for a moment before letting him pull me to my feet.
The warm night air hit us as we stepped out of Gigi’s, the soft sound of waves in the distance mingling with the faint hum of the city. Lando didn’t say anything, his grip on my hand firm but gentle as he led me toward Larvotto Beach, just a short walk away.
“Lando, seriously,” I said as we reached the sand. “What’s going on?”
He stopped, turning to face me, his green eyes brighter under the moonlight.
“We need to talk.” he said simply.
And just like that, my heart started racing, even though I had no idea what he was going to say.
The beach stretched out before us, quiet except for the rhythmic crash of waves against the shore. The city lights glittered faintly in the distance, their reflection dancing on the dark water. Lando walked beside me, his shoulders tense, his hands stuffed deep into his pockets.
For once, I didn’t fill the silence. I didn’t trust myself to. My thoughts were a whirlwind—last night’s overheard words still fresh in my mind, colliding with the unexpected intensity of this moment.
We walked like that for a while, the sand soft beneath our feet, until Lando came to a sudden stop. He turned to face me, his green eyes catching the moonlight in a way that made my stomach twist.
“I don’t even know where to start,” he said, running a hand through his hair.
I crossed my arms, my heart pounding so loudly I was sure he could hear it. “Try the beginning.”
He huffed out a soft laugh, shaking his head. “The beginning’s too far back. I’d be here all night.”
“Good thing I don’t have anywhere else to be,” I said, my voice quieter than I intended.
For a moment, he just looked at me, his expression softening. “Y/N, I have a lot of friends. Like, a lot of friends.”
I blinked, confused. “Okay?”
“But none of them get to me the way you do,” he said, his voice dropping.
I stared at him, my breath catching. “What are you saying?”
He glanced out at the water, like he was searching for courage in the rolling waves. “I mean… you’re not just anyone to me. You never have been. You’re the first person I think of when something happens—good or bad. And the idea of upsetting you? It’s unbearable.”
My throat tightened as his words sank in.
“Like today,” he continued, his voice cracking slightly. “You ignored my calls, and I couldn’t stop thinking about whether I’d done something wrong. Whether I hurt you somehow. Because if I did…” He stopped, exhaling sharply, and shook his head. “I can’t stand the thought of you being upset because of me.”
I didn’t respond, too caught up in the flood of emotions his words were pulling from me.
“When you’re upset, it breaks my heart,” he admitted, his voice softer now. “And when you laugh… it’s like my entire day gets brighter. When you’re sad, it feels like my world’s falling apart.”
“Lando,” I started, but he held up a hand, shaking his head.
“I’m not done,” he said, his words tumbling out now, faster and more frantic. “I’ve been feeling like this for so long, and I thought I could just push it aside or pretend it didn’t matter, but it does. It matters so much. And if I messed up—if I’ve ruined this somehow—I don’t know what I’ll do.”
“You didn’t—”
“I’m in love with you,” he blurted, his eyes locking onto mine. “I think I’ve been in love with you for a while now, but I’ve been too scared to admit it. And I know this might change everything, but I can’t keep pretending I don’t feel this way.”
I froze, his confession slamming into me with the force of a tidal wave.
“I’m sorry,” he said again, running a hand through his hair. “I don’t even know if this makes sense. I just… I can’t lose you, Y/N.”
Without thinking, I stepped closer, grabbed his face, and kissed him.
For a second, he was completely still, caught off guard. But then he kissed me back, his hands slipping to my waist as he pulled me closer. The kiss was soft at first, tentative, but it deepened quickly, making the world around me disappear.
When we finally pulled apart, his forehead rested against mine, both of us catching our breath.
“So… I’m guessing you feel the same?” he asked, a small, nervous smile tugging at his lips.
“You’re so slow sometimes,” I murmured, shaking my head with a laugh.
“Is that a yes?”
“It’s a yes,” I said, smiling.
The relief on his face was almost comical. He pulled me into a hug, his arms wrapping around me tightly like he never wanted to let go.
“I’ve wanted to tell you for so long,” he murmured into my hair.
“And I’ve wanted to hear it,” I admitted, my voice muffled against his chest.
He pulled back just enough to look at me, his brow furrowing slightly. “But… yesterday. Did I say something? Did I—”
I hesitated, my stomach twisting. “I overheard you talking to Charles.”
His face paled. “Oh.”
“You said I’d never be more than a friend,” I said, my voice wavering.
Lando winced, rubbing the back of his neck. “God, Y/N, that’s not how I meant it at all. I said that because I thought I didn’t stand a chance. Like… you’re so important to me, and I didn’t want to mess up what we already had by wanting something I thought I could never have.”
He looked at me with a mix of regret and hope. “I’m an idiot. It wasn’t because I didn’t want more—it’s because I didn’t think I could have it.”
“You are an idiot,” I said, my lips twitching into a small smile. “But you’re my idiot.”
He laughed softly, shaking his head. “Yours, huh? Bold claim.”
I tilted my head, my grin widening. “Think you can find someone else to deal with you the way I do?”
He raised an eyebrow, stepping closer. “Deal with me? You mean worship my charm and tolerate my perfection?”
“Oh, please,” I shot back, rolling my eyes. “The only thing I’m worshipping is the patience I’ve built up putting up with you.”
His hands slid to my waist, pulling me slightly closer, his smirk turning more mischievous. “You love me. Admit it.”
“Not a chance,” I said, even as my pulse quickened.
His gaze dropped to my lips for the briefest moment before meeting my eyes again, his voice softening but still teasing. “You’re a terrible liar, you know.”
Before I could respond, he closed the gap, kissing me again with a fierceness that took me by surprise. This wasn’t the hesitant, nervous kiss from before. It was confident, teasing, like everything we’d been holding back had finally snapped into place.
I kissed him back, my fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt to pull him closer. His hands tightened on my waist, grounding me as he smiled against my lips, murmuring, “Still denying it?”
I broke the kiss just long enough to catch my breath, raising an eyebrow. “You think one kiss is going to make me fold?”
“Two,” he said smugly, leaning in for another without waiting for an answer.
I rolled my eyes but didn’t stop him, meeting him halfway this time. His lips curved into a grin mid-kiss, and I could feel his stupid, insufferable smugness radiating off him.
“You’re really enjoying this, aren’t you?” I asked when we pulled apart, my voice laced with mock annoyance.
“Unbelievably,” he replied, his grin widening as he rested his forehead against mine. “And don’t pretend you’re not.”
“Maybe I am,” I admitted, smirking. “But if you keep talking, I might start regretting it.”
He laughed, pulling me closer. “Alright, no more talking. For now.”
“Good,” I said, leaning in again, the sound of the waves crashing against the shore fading into the background as everything else fell away.
The weight of everything unsaid was gone, replaced by the warmth of realizing we’d both been fighting our way toward the same truth: we’d always belonged to each other.
When we broke apart, Lando’s grin turned mischievous, and I immediately knew he was up to something. Before I could react, he scooped me up effortlessly and started toward the water.
“Lando! Don’t you dare!” I shrieked, squirming in his arms as laughter bubbled out of me.
“Payback for all those times you called me an idiot,” he teased, stopping just as the waves lapped at his shoes.
He finally set me down, his smirk smug and unapologetic. “Admit it. You love me anyway.”
Figures. I’m in love with someone who steals my fries and once confidently argued that dolphins were just “sea dogs.” I wouldn’t have it any other way though.

Your legs were draped across Spencer’s lap as he ran a hand up and down them unconsciously as you were both engrossed in a crime documentary.
“Morgan and I got into a conversation about umm oral sex today. He asked me how my first experience was,” Spencer said without looking away from the TV and stuttering slightly about what terminology to use that would be less crude.
“Giving or receiving?” You replied wanting to know where this was going.
“Receiving.”
“So you were discussing blow jobs,” You asked.
“I suppose yes,” Spencer said, his face going a bit red.
“And how was your first one?” You asked.
“That’s the thing… I haven’t had one before.”
You looked over at him, “Never?”
“Never, I told you on our third date that I was a virgin,” Spencer said finally looking at you.
“Yes, but I didn’t know that included those kinds of things. You’ve never had anything or done anything to anyone?”
“Nope, nothing.”
“Are you curious? I don’t need us to have sex by the way I’m fine without it. I’m just checking in to see where you’re at,” You gave him a comforting smile.
“That’s what I wanted to talk about.”
“Okay,” You paused the TV, “take your time.”
“I think I’d like to try it?” Spencer said but it sounded more like a question.
“You’d like me to give you a blow job?”
Spencer coughed awkwardly, “Yes…please, only if you’re comfortable of course. And I would like to do something for you.”
“I’m comfortable, Spence, I’d be more than happy to do that for you. What would you like to do to me?”
“I’m not sure,” He bit the inside of his mouth.
“That’s okay, We can start with you. Did you want to do it now?” You asked.
“Maybe later tonight if you’re staying over?” The man had a hopeful smile on his face.
“Of course, I’ll stay you know I adore waking up next to you .”
——————
“Are you tired?” Spencer asked as you began to undress for bed.
“A little,” You said, pulling one of his oversized t-shirts over your almost naked body.
“Okay that’s fine,” He said back fiddling with the page of his book.
“Did you want something, Spence? We need to get this communication thing right and to do that you have to speak to me.”
“I know, I was just wondering if you wanted to do it now,” He asked shyly.
“Do what?” You seemed confused before remembering your conversation from earlier, “Ohhhh, you want a blow job now.”
“Umm,” he rubbed his neck, “Yes, you’re really pretty and you look good in my shirt…”
“You’re turned on by me wearing your clothes?”
“Well yes, you look good in my clothes.”
You grabbed a hair tie from the bedside table on the side you slept on and pulled your hair back into a quick messy ponytail.
“What are you doing?” Spencer asked his voice cracking towards the end.
“Putting my hair up so it doesn’t get in the way.”
“You’re actually gonna-“
“Spence if you want this then I want to do it,” You reminded him.
“Okay,.. uhh yeah I want it.”
“Do you want to take my shirt off?”
Spencer nodded his head quickly already reaching out toward you. You moved closer to him until his hands made contact with the hem of your shirt.
He took his time lifting your shirt off slowly while your hands rested on the waistband of his checked pyjama bottoms.
Once your shirt was fully off his eyes were glued to your breasts while his fingers gently brushed against each swell.
“You’ve seen them before baby,” You giggled, you always enjoyed how he touched your chest and you couldn’t wait for him to finally touch you in other places.
“I know but they’re beautiful,” He massaged your nipples with his thumbs.
“Can you take your pants off?” Spencer obeyed you almost immediately getting up from the bed and removing them.
He took his boxers off not even a second later. His cheeks flushed a light pink at how hard his dick was as it sprung out of the boxers, “Sorry.”
“What are you sorry for? Come here.”
Spencer took a couple of steps to reach the bed where he was now standing in front of you. You knelt on the bed reaching your neck up and placing a kiss on his lips, “You’re perfect.”
“Thank you,” He replied in a timid tone.
“Sit,” You pat a spot on the bed before standing up.
Spencer once again obliged as you got on your knees in front of him, “Are you okay?” You checked in with him.
“Yeah, I think so, are you?”
“Yes babe I’m good,” He was the sweetest man ever of course you knew he would check on you too despite knowing you’d done this more than once, “Don’t hold back with anything, I like having my hair pulled.”
Spencer’s eyes widened a little, “I don’t want to hurt you.”
“You won’t. Are you ready?”
Spencer nodded before your lips met the tip of his dick. You left a small kiss there, his pre cum spreading onto your lips.
You heard him whimper as your mouth closed around him.
After just one suck, Spencer was taking deep breaths, moans leaving his mouth every time he opened it.
“Oh my god,” He managed through breaths.
You placed your hands on his thighs taking him deep and sucking harder. One of his hands was firmly gripped the edge of the bed while the other had made its way to your hair which he pulled but only lightly.
You hummed before swirling your tongue around the tip and licking up the underside.
“Fuck, I don’t think I can hold it,” He groaned but that only egged you on more.
“I can’t-“ He cut himself off with a moan as you swirled your tongue faster.
His dick twitched inside your mouth indicating he was close and just as you were sure he was about to cum in your mouth he pulled out of your mouth as he orgasmed. His cum going over your face and breasts.
“Spencer!”
“Oh my god, I'm so so sorry that wasn’t meant to happen.”
“Why didn’t you finish in my mouth? Now I’m messy,” You groaned, you didn’t want to make too much of a deal out of it because you didn’t want him to feel bad.
“I didn’t know if you’d want that…”
“Of course, I didn’t really want it over my face,” You reached for the tissue box on the bedside table.
“Did you know semen actually has many health benefits, especially for the skin? Some people believe it helps with ageing and acne but there is no scientific proof to support it,” Spencer rambled between breaths.
“Are you saying I have bad skin?” You laughed.
“What no! Of course not.”
“I’m teasing honey, next time please just finish in my mouth,” You got up from your knees climbing up onto the bed and laying on her side of the bed beside him.
“Can I still… You know, do you?” He asked after nodding in response.
“Now?”
“Please?”
“If you want to, I don’t want you to feel like you have to though,” You ran your fingertips over his arm.
“I don’t feel like I have to I just want to do it.”
Spencer started moving so you bent your knees and opened them to make some room in front of you.
“You’re so beautiful,” He said running his thumb from your hip to the top of your low-rise black lace underwear.
“Thanks, baby,” You reached a hand out running your fingers through it.
“Can I take those off?” He asked rubbing the waistband of the panties.
“Yes, whenever you like,” You smiled, biting your lip, you had thought about this for a while, his hands were one of your favourite things about him just from the way he held you or even from the way he tracked the page when he read so you knew after this you’d like them a lot more.
He pulled the underwear off throwing them to the floor. He rested his hands on the apex of both of your thighs opening them a little more.
“What do you want me to do next?” He asked before placing some kisses on your lips,
“Touch me… please.”
Spencer ran one of his thumbs over your folds from the entrance and upwards but stopped before reaching your clit, “Like this?”
“Uh huh,” You squirmed in your place on the bed making Spencer’s grip tighten on your thigh.
He moved his thumb away but immediately replaced it with his middle and ring finger making the same motion as before.
His two fingers grazed your clit, pushing down on it lightly, “How do you like it?”
“Anyway,” You groaned.
“Circular motion?”
You nodded, “Yes, uh huh.”
He started with slow circles but gradually got faster and harder with it as his confidence grew.
You moaned, “Yes! Spence. Inside please!”
Spencer slid two of his fingers into you stretching you apart.
“Spencer! Slow ow,” Your eyes widened.
He removed them, “Sorry! I got too confident.”
“It’s okay you were doing so well, just start with one I’ll tell you when I’m ready for two.”
Spencer spread your wetness around your folds coating his fingers in it, “Ready?”
“Yes.”
He slid one finger inside of you, moving it in and out slowly to help you adjust, the tip nudging your G-spot when he pushed in.
“Add another one!” You panted through moans.
Spencer did as you wished pushing it inside. Stilling both fingers for a moment until you were ready to have him move them.
The feeling of his fingers being buried in your warm walls was something he could get addicted to easily. He could also get addicted to the way your face contorted with pleasure when he hit the right spots.
“Move, please,” Your eyes fluttered shut as you spoke.
Spencer moved his fingers slowly until he found your G-spot. Your moans gave him the confidence he needed to speed up.
Once he added his thumb into the mix using it to rub circles on your clit while still stroking the spot inside of you, your moans got louder and you helped him by moving your hips to ride his fingers.
“I’m so close baby,” You groaned between breaths.
Spencer felt your walls tighten around his fingers as he moved them in a hooking motion sticking to the same pace though he remembered reading something about women not needing a man to go faster when they are close but to stick to exactly what they’re doing.
“Spence!” You called out before sucking in a deep breath as you came around his fingers.
He knew not to remove his fingers immediately so he slowly pumped them in and out to help you through your orgasm until you got your breath back.
Once your eyes opened and your breaths had regulated he gently pulled his fingers out of you earning a whine from you at the loss.
Spencer inspected his glistening fingers and blushed, “Did I do good?”
“Oh so good babe, really good,” You propped yourself up on your elbows to kiss him.
“Can I try it?” He nodded his head towards his fingers.
“If you want to?”
Spencer cleaned his fingers off in his mouth, groaning at the taste, “You taste amazing, I can’t wait to do that again. You’re so beautiful like this, sweat glistening on your skin, messy hair, your eyes sparkling.”
“Stop,” You blushed, “I love you.”
“I love you too, but you should probably go to the bathroom to help reduce the risk of a UTI and then we should try to get some sleep,” He said stroking the side of your hair.
“I know honey, just give me a second.”
Eventually, you left the bed to go and everything you needed before you went to sleep.
When you came back into the bedroom Spencer was lying in bed without his shirt on and the main light off.
“I like your hair when you actually wash it,” You joked getting in the bed next to him.
“I always wash it! I just put gel in for work, it looks more professional,” he scrunched his nose as the bridge of his glasses fell down.
“It looks greasy honey,” You kissed the side of his head.
“I’ll put less in,” He groaned, wrapping his arms around your waist and burying his head into the crook of your neck, “Goodnight,” He left a kiss near your collarbone, “Thank you for tonight.”
“You don’t have to thank me, I love you, sleep well,” You kissed the top of his head and waited for him to fall asleep before you did.
