Tuffnut Drabble

//Tufflout at the end.

Astrid was handing out food for the gathered riders. Grinning as she 'accidentally', spilled some on Snotlout. Causing him, of course, to complain as he took the bowl with a grumble. Most of the group was there, sans the twins, however that thought seemed to be short lived as she heard footsteps. Looking over she spotted Tuffnut carrying Chicken as well as what appeared to be a sleeping bag? 

She wasn't the only one who noticed him approach and the others just watched as he started to set up a little area for himself. "What are you eating?" He asked. 

"Chicken noodle soup," Fishlegs responded, taking a sip before cringing as he heard the Chickens indignant cry. Tuffnut quickly comforted it though as he crawled into the little 'bed' he made. It looked more like a weird nest in Astrid's opinion though. 

"Oh, dang, I was hungry." He admitted. Astrid felt bad as she remembered his little declaration not to eat any more chicken. A statement he did in honour of 'her' becoming a part of his life. Astrid thought it was stupid and dramatic at the time but he seemed to be following through with it. 

"Sorry, Tuff. I didn't think you were joining us tonight. I thought you and your sister were out shopping." She explained which caused him to brighten. 

"Oh! We were, my sister is the best at shopping. Look, I got some new helmet shine, some more furs and even this new blanket." He explained patting the blanket that he was sitting on with a pleased smile. 

"Where is Ruffnut now?" Hiccup asked curiously taking a sip of his soup. 

"Most likely fucking Gnupa Hottsson from the Bearknuckle tribe." Tuffnut shrugged causing more then a few to spit out their soups in surprise. It was Snotlout that broke the silence first.

"Wait what did you say, your sister is...?"

"Fucking Gnupa Hottsson from the Bearknuckle tribe?" Tuffnut said, surprised by the others reactions. They always seemed to react so vividly to the strangest of things. 

"Um, what since when?" Astrid added in.

"Well, I don't know, my sister ran into him when we were out shopping. He was being very nice and even let Ruff pick out a nice flower. Which was weird cause she hates flowers, I personally find them quite pretty, especially the stinky ones! Oh and blue ones, I like the blue flowers that used to grow outs-"

"So Ruffnut met this guy while you were out shopping?" Hiccup added in. Proving that he was also intrigued by the story.

"Oh yeah! Right, so this guy was getting real up close and personal and my sis was getting that dumb look in her eye and kept pushing me away. She didn't have to do that. I got the hint, the stupid foul-smelling-"

"So you left her behind with some strange dude?" Snotlout. 

"Well, I wasn't gonna watch! Besides I think she lead him to our hut last I checked, which is why I am gonna sleep out here tonight. I'd rather not go through another night of my blissed-out sis." He said, mumbling the last part. 

"Well, I don't blame you." Astrid keyed in.

"Thank you Astrid, I knew you'd understand."

"But you really shouldn't sleep out here tonight. I can already see clouds coming in. It's gonna rain." She keyed in. 

For his part, Tuffnut looked concerned for about two seconds before he shrugged, "That's fine. I like the rain."

"Not when you catch hyperthermia." Fishlegs added, "It's supposed to get real cold tonight. Perhaps you should just ignore her in your own room." He suggested.

"I don't have my own room. I sleep under her bed." Tuffnut said, sounding confused as if this should be common knowledge. 

"What, really?" Snotlout snorted out. Laughing loudly as he pointed at Tuffnut. Feeling chastised and not understanding why; Tuffnut crossed his arms.

"Why don't you sleep i-, why don't you have your own bed Tuff?" Hiccup asked. 

"I've never had my own bed. It's the twin way, sometimes I just sleep up with her but usually, I just sleep under the bed." He explained. 

"We can get you one." Fishlegs offered.

"Why?" Tuffnut asked. Honestly sounding confused. It was common knowledge in Berk that the Thorston family was... poor to put it simply. Still, Hiccup figured they could have at least could have afforded a bed for Tuffnut. Frankly, if Hiccup had known he would have somehow offered up his own. He just always thought that it was one of Tuffnut's weird jokes. 

"What about if you bring home a girl of your own?" Snotlout asked. "Don't think she would appreciate you dragging them under your sister's bed." He explained. "So, without a bed of your own, what would you do?"

"Go to her hut instead," Tuffnut responded. 

"Fair enough, but I wanna lay in on this too." Astrid piped up before asking her own version of it, "What if you were already at your hut when you start feeling it. What would you do then?"

"We are not having this conversation." Hiccup suddenly piped up but the others ignored him as they kept their eyes on Tuffnut, waiting for his response. He just sat their petting chicken before finally, he shrugged. 

"Go to... her hut... instead?" He finally answered although he sounded unsure. 

"Ha! Not when you are horny. All logic goes out the window when the blood is pumping." Snotlout cut in with a laugh. Reaching over he gave Tuffnut a slap on the back causing him to immediately slap back, the two about to break into a fight, however, Astrid was stuck on something.

"Tuff, have you ever, you know felt that way before?" She asked, ignoring Hiccups loud slurping as the boy tried really hard to ignore the conversation the three were having. Fishlegs was also quiet but he didn't make his discomfort known, in fact, he almost seemed intrigued in his own way. He really didn't know a lot about the Twins besides that they were annoying, so this felt like a step forward into learning more about them. 

For the first time in the night, Tuff actually looked uncomfortable at the direction the topic went. "I don't think so..." He responded, pulling away from Snotlout who was immediately going to tease him. 

"What? What kind of guy are you? You never felt horny. Pfft, no wonder you don't seem to have an interest in anyone. Oh, man are you missing out though. Even alone it can fee-"

A cough from Astrid reminded Snotlout that they were all still listening. Before he could dig himself a deeper hole though, Tuffnut spoke again.

"I mean I have felt it before! I just, I never looked at a woman and had it happen. Like, how its supposed to. The odd times I have gotten aroused, I blame on adrenaline." He explained.

"Have you ever looked at a man and felt it? Also why am I keying into this sex ed, nonsense." Hiccup sighed. 

"No... I don't think so." Tuff responded looking kind of uncomfortable as he rocked in place. This was not what he expected when he came here to hide.

"Have you ever kissed anyone?" Astrid keyed in.

"Hiccup." Tuffnut responded easily. There was confusion for a moment before Fishlegs was the one to remember.

"That was an accident though. And I distinctly remember you being quite upset and embarrassed." He stated.

Tuffnut nodded, "Yeah! Wasn't expected to be kissed! Thought he was just coming over to yell at me." He mumbled. There were a few laughs at that surprisingly although Snotlout didn't want to let it go.

"So you've never wanted to fuck anyone? Kiss them even?" He questioned. Tuffnut was silent before shaking his head. "Maybe kiss, I don't know," he said clearly looking around as if to find a way to leave this area. He hadn't finished making his spot after all and through the talk he had put his helmet back on.

"Just let it go Snotlout." Hiccup stated. Happy that most of them were starting to move on. Although still give some curious gazes.

Snotlout however suddenly had an idea, "Kiss me!" He suggested. That caused a few surprised what's. And Tuffnut to look just confused and embarrassed as all eyes turned to him.

"What?"

"Kiss me! You haven't had a true kiss before so maybe you just don't know what it's like." Snotlout explained.

"You want him to kiss you?" Astrid asked in clear surprise as she crossed her arms. Snotlout just ignored them keeping his eyes on Tuffnut. Although he did realize the problem with everyone around. So moving forward he grabbed Tuffs arm before dragging him out of the hut. Tuff surprisingly letting him although looking down when they were alone.

"Um yeah so..." Snotlout started running a hand through his hair. "Just.. I didn't mean to... gah! Emotions!" He complained.

"You are one of the most emotional vikings I know." Tuffnut answered with a bit of amusement. Snotlout smiled before once again grew awkward.

"Please, maybe it'll spark something?" Snotlout finally said. Tuffnut just watched him, clearly thinking it over as he looked Snotlout up and down.

"Do you like me?" He suddenly demanded. Causing Snotlouts face to go beet red.

"L-like you, no, I mean you are my best friend. Just want to... help out." Snotlout stammered. Tuff just frowned before looking down. Kicking the ground with his shoes before sighing and suddenly standing up straight. Walking over to Snotlout and reaching for the others hands.

"This is going to be gross." He commented before leaning forward and kissing Snotlout gently on the lips. Snotlout frozen for a moment before easily kissing back. Squeezing Tuffs hands and trying to coax more out of the rigid twin. Pushing his body against the other hopefully.

Snotlout was in valhalla but to soon Tuffnut suddenly pulled away and he remembered what this was about. Wiping at his mouth he stepped away from the other before clearing his throat. "Um so... did you feel anything?" He asked. Unable to stop the hope from his voice.

Tuff shook his head, "Felt awkward." He admitted before noticing Snotlouts crushed face. The twin felt something at that moment at least. So moving forward he grabbed a hold of Snotlouts hands. He may not be the smartest when it come to these things but it didn't take a genius to realize what was happening here. Ever since Snotlout had announced Tuff as his best friend, he had been uncomfortably close at times.

He hated this mushy stuff though but despite Snotlout pretending to be hard he knew the boy was as soft as a kitten. "I didn't feel anything like that but... I do feel things for you. Just not sure they are the same feelings you have for me. I like being around you. I don't get squeamish when you touch me. I even let you kiss me for Lokis sake.. I just.. I think there is something wrong with me." Tuff admitted.

"Theres millions wrong with you Tuffy." Snotlout commented although frowning he pulled the other into a hug. "I'm sorry." Snotlout said.

Tuff frowned, Snotlout never apologized for anything. And Tuff honestly didn't know what he was apologizing for. "For what?"

"For falling in love with you." Snotlout whispered. So quiet that Tuff almost didn't hear it but he did and he found himself tensing without meaning too.

"Oh gods here they come." Tuff commented feeling his eyes start to water. Turning away he couldn't help the sob that escaped. Snotlout loved him, like love loved him? He had never experienced that. He never had someone love him, just people tolerate him. It honestly warmed him.

Sniffling he was relieved Snotlout didn't leave and decided not to comment on the tears he saw on the others face. "I- I still don't know what I feel when I look at you. But I do know I feel happy around you. Maybe you... are right.. we can... explore?" Tuff suggested. Causing Snotlout to brighten.

"Really?" He asked.

"Yeah but... don't get your hope up. I surprisingly don't want to see you heartbroken." Tuff admitted.

Snotlout however nodded and the two shared an awkward watery smile.

1. Does music inspire you to write?

Not unless I’m doing songfics as a warm-up or something. I usually use it as a tone/mood guard rail as I’m writing. That’s why I make story/character playlists! They keep me on track, especially if I’m revisiting a scene I haven’t thought about in a while.

2. Which WIP did you learn the most from writing?

My Romanian story, for sure. I had the help of my thesis director/mentor with that one, thank God. I learned how to establish a scene quickly, how to do flashbacks like other people do them, how to incorporate languages without messing up the pace or losing the reader, and how to write historical things. 

I learned a whole lot about what not to do from my Story That Shall Not Be Named Because It Bad, too. 

3. Is there something your OC should be afraid of that they aren’t?

I think Gemma should be more afraid of being found out than she is. I mean, she’s technically a witch (an unregistered magic practitioner, because of her potion-making which is classified as pseudo-magic) who has no social security number, lives in secret, and does illegal internet things. She could get into some serious trouble. There are even more nasty consequences that I can’t reveal because spoilers, but let’s just say she has no idea they could happen and they ain’t pretty.

4. Is there something they don’t need to fear, yet do? Irrational phobias?

Yep! It’s one of the cores of her character. She’s afraid of being left alone, abandoned, kept out of her found family. Being used for her skills and ignored as a person. I don’t think they’re irrational, but she has never listened when people tell her not to be afraid of those things.

5. Do you prefer reading physical books or e-books?

Physical books, by far. E-books for my college student wallet, though. They saved me when I didn’t have time to order books, too. I have a crazy good “where in the physical book did this event happen” memory. Like, I can name an event and flip to the page very quickly based on how far into the book it was. Very handy for citations. And I love the feel/smell of a book in my hands and all the contorting I do when I read one (seriously, I almost always end up upside down or completely sideways in a chair).

6. What’s some details of your world building that you like?

All the little things! Academic internet piracy network to help witches, how magic interacts with daily life, tweaking folklore to fit story lore, 

7. Have you ever created a magic system? What was it like?

Oh, boy! Yes, I have made several. My favorite might be the one from my TV show where the only magic is healing/life manipulation magic. The way it works is that when healers do their thing, they physically take on their patient’s injuries. If you have a broken arm, now the healer has a broken arm. Works with diseases, too. Here’s the snippet from the Show Deck about it:

In the darkest corners and dingiest alleys, magic pulses through the veins of the downtrodden. Seen as evil and taboo, magic operates by the law of an eye for an eye, a life for a life. Sacrifice fuels these dark arts, and those who manipulate them are covered in scars and never-healed wounds. Healers operate in the shadows and lead short lives, field medics are scarce, and the king has two sorcerers by his side at all times, bound by a blood contract to give their lives in his name.

8. What was your first favorite book?

I’m 90% sure it was the American Revolution Magic Tree House book. Or one of those books. They were the best.

9. What time of day are you most motivated to write?

7pm-4am. Yep, I hate it. I’m trying to push it closer to 2pm-9pm but it’s tough.

10. If you could step into the shoes of one of your characters for a day, which one would you pick?

If we’re talkin’ H2H characters, I honestly would not have a preference. Everyone in that story is pretty dang chill. If I had to choose, I’d go with Jill or Treena. They’re both artists and artisans who have cool houses and great friends.

11. What are some little quirks you like to give characters? Ex: a lot of mine have freckles Just Because.

There are Many. A lot of my characters have curly hair because I have curly hair. Many of them are left handed (especially my sword-wielding ones). A bunch of them have scars. A lot of them know curse words in other languages.

1. What do you want to see more of in the book world? (more rep, more of a specific genre, etc)

I have a rant about this, but to sum up: fewer straight white men dominating publishing, more open acceptance for new voices and ideas, less focus on easy-sell formulaic stories, less prejudice against certain genres... the list goes on. Also, in the publishing world, fewer submission fees and more journals that pay.

2. What time of day are you most productive writing-wise?

Answered above! Evenings and nights. It’s starting to shift to late afternon to late evening though, which is a nice change.

3. Do you have a designated space where you write?

Nope! I usually use my laptop wherever I can sit down or stand without my back screaming at me. I hate writing on my phone, though. Too small, too many typos.

4. What kind of platforms/programs/tools do you use to write? (Word, notebooks, Google Docs, Scrivener, etc)

Scrivener! It’s so helpful for my disorganized ass. I only use Word for academic papers now. When I’m having trouble getting ideas out of my brain, I write by hand in a hard back spiral notebook. I can’t stand writing in journals without spirals. 

5. Hardcover or paperback?

I like both. When I read, I sit weird and hardcovers prevent the pages from bending, but paperbacks are good for traveling with. And they’re cheaper. But hardcovers are so pretty... 

6. What’s your favorite story trope? Are you using it in your wip(s)?

There are a lot of tropes and I can never pick just one. I like friends to lovers, almost everything in LoTR and all those high fantasy things, complicated political/family dynamics, etc. I don’t typically like to write the same things I like to read, though. I have trouble naming them sometimes, but I know I use a bunch of them. 

7. If you had to send your favorite OC on a blind date with a character from someone else’s book, who would that character be and why?

Oh boy. I’m watching the Lord of the Rings extended editions right now, but I’ll try not to be biased.

If I were trying to be funny, I’d set Fred up with Aziraphale from Good Omens. I feel like they could have some good weird conversations.

Gemma and Nicholas Flamel from The Alchemist would be fun, too. Or Oz and Boromir. 

8. Do you write scenes in order or out of order?

I like writing them in order, but sometimes that doesn’t work out like I want it to. Now it really depends on the story. I wrote the first part of AOPC out of order and it messed with my head a little, so I’m trying not to do it for my longer projects. My short stories are always written one and done, in chronological order, usually. Especially the ones under 2k words. WYSiOaD was written in order, then switched around to fix the flow and plot.

9. If your favorite OC was a superhero, what would their superpower be? (assuming, of course, they aren’t a superhero to begin with!)

I do have superhero/villain characters! Here’s some others, though:

Gemma - Empathy / Transferable Rapid Healing and/or Regeneration

Oz - Truesight / Invulnerability

Mel - Animal Friendship or Shapeshifting / Conditional Foresight

Fred - Domino’s luck power but backwards and framed like happy accidents that always seem to work in his favor. So... Mr. Magoo.

Teva - Earth sculpting or something like earthbending

10. Describe your ideal writing session.

I sit and I write a whole short story in one hit. Then I wait and edit another day. 

I am a simple bean.

11. What do you think would turn your protagonist into a villain?

Seeing what was lost and having it torn away forever before she gets to claim it again.

Chapter 8

The Meeting

Misun outfit: 

Nori Outfit: 

The girls walked through the huge reception area of the large building. They could feel their body reacting in nervousness. Misun's palms became a bit moist. Nori knew she was on edge so she needed to calm her down somehow. She stopped her for a moment, with her hands on her shoulders. “Misun, we got this okay? The worst thing that can happen is that we don't like his plan for us.��

Misun inhaled deeply. “I know. I just need a minute before we walk into that meeting. Can we pray? I think that might help.” She was becoming anxious.

Nori nodded. “Of course!” They grabbed one another hands and began to pray asking God to be with them in this meeting and to help them make the right decisions for their career and to guide them always.

“I feel better. You ready for this?” Misun asked in a bit more excitement than she had before.

Nori pulled her to the elevator and they embarked to the seventh floor where his office was. Miranda was already there waiting for them. As they walked in there were a few people waiting for them. Nori and Misun bowed a little and took their seats.

The president welcomed them in with a smile. “Some of my talent scouts came across your YouTube channel and I must say you have a lot people that seem to like what you're doing. Tell me why you started it?”

Misun nodded to Nori so she could answer.

“We really love music and we love the people that create beautiful music that touches others hearts. We wanted fans of these artists to be able to get a better feel of who they truly are as well as us being able to connect with the artists.” Nori explained.

“Music is not just something that you do or that you listen to. It's more about how you feel when you hear it or how it moves you. It's about the passion that these artists put into their artistry. We wanted to be able to get closer to that. We love entertainment period. We want to expand in so many ways.” Misun added.

The president nodded. “I like you. You're driven and anyone can work with a person that's passionate and not afraid of learning new things and new ways. So I propose that we draw up a contract that will link you exclusively to Ktown Entertainment. What do you think?”

Misun took a deep breath. “I know you have your own staff but this contract has to include our personal consultant, Miranda, as well. We wouldn't be where we are without her and there's no way we're leaving her behind.”

“That's not a problem. You just tell me what role she plays in your career and we can draw up a contract for her as well.” The president answered with a smile.

Miranda smiled big at the girls. She had so much faith in them and she was about ready to let them fly on their own, no she wasn't ready to let them go but she wasn't sure where her place would be at this point but she felt so much love and respect from them since they weren't ready to let her go as well. “Thank you.” She nodded in Misun and Nori's direction.

They talked more business and then the contracts were in their faces. A physical copy of the thing that was changing their lives for the better.

“So living arrangements?” Misun directed her question to the president.

His grin got bigger. “Oh yes, that apartment you're staying in. . .it's yours as long as you're signed with us. I need you two living here within the next month. I have a lot of work for you girls to get started with as well as media training and so forth.”

“A month? What about our lease? That's not up until November!” Nori directed to Misun.

The president placed his hand on both of their shoulders. “No need to worry. Whatever fee you have to pay to release you from your lease I will take care of. Don't worry. It's smooth sailing from here.”

Misun nodded. “Does Miranda have to move here?”

“If she wants to but we won't need her here all the time like we need you two. She can simply travel when necessary.” He replied.

Miranda shook her head. “I don't think my husband would like moving here right now so I'll just travel here when I'm needed.”

They got everything sorted out and they left.

Back at the apartment

Nori is throwing clothes everywhere while Misun is sipping on some red wine. “What are you looking for?” Misun asked her.

“Something to wear!” She plops down on the floor with the rest of her clothes.

Misun cocked an eyebrow up. “Where are you going?”

“You mean where are WE going!” Nori answered with a sly grin.

Misun shook her head. “Nope, I'm not going anywhere especially when you have that sneaky grin on your face!”

“You are going, so go find something sexy to wear because we owe ourselves to celebrate tonight!”

Misun lifted her glass of wine. “This is me celebrating, duh!”

Nori pulled her off the bed. “Get your booty in that room and find something sexy! If you don't I will for you!”

Misun pouted as she walked into the room. “Okay okay! Gosh!”

Misun finally found something that was suitable for a club setting. She didn't go to clubs back home except for when Nori would drag her there so this was totally out of her element but she may as well live a little. She began to curl her long black hair. She loosened the curls so that they would look more like beach waves. She fixed her makeup and finally exited her room where her best friend was awaiting her.

Nori's eyes widened. She was stunned. “Whoa mama! You look hot! Every Korean guy is going to want a piece of Misun, tonight!” She couldn't take her eyes off of her bestie.

Misun began to blush and waved her off. “Stop! I feel very uncomfortable. Is this too much?”

“It's just enough. Let loose please. Even if it's just for tonight, please have some real fun. We deserve this!” Nori told her with a grin.

Misun nodded. “Okay, I won't be so in my head tonight. You look beautiful by the way, every man is that building is going to want YOU!”

Nori winked at her. “I know. That's the point of this whole outfit. Give them a taste of what they can't have. Now let's go because Miranda is waiting on us downstairs.”

“She's coming with us? Her husband is going to kill her!” Misun acknowledged.

Nori shrugged. “She's still young, she needs a life outside of him. Plus what he doesn't know can't hurt him. Let's go!”

They jumped into the vehicle with Miranda. “Dang, Miranda! You clean up really nice!” Misun told her.

“If I could dress like this all the time I would but Michael hates me showing any type of skin.” She said as she rolled her eyes and drove away from the apartment building.

Monsta X

The music was banging in their ears as they sipped on their beer in the V.I.P. section that was highly secured. There were so many fans trying to get an invite to join them but the guys just weren't feeling it tonight. They simply waved to the fans and threw hearts in their direction. They just were trying to relax and enjoy their time there.

“Times like this I kind of wish I wasn't famous.” Wonho admitted.

The guys all looked at him stunned. “What do you mean?” Shownu asked him.

“I love our fans of course but we're stuck in this section until we leave because they're swarming this area. Don't you ever just want to get on the dance floor and grab a pretty girl and dance the night away?” Wonho explained.

Minhyuk nodded. “I understand. Just be treated like a normal person because we are just normal people who just happen to perform too. I get you.”

“Go grab a pretty girl and dance with her then. We have security. Have fun!” Kihyun urged.

Shownu shook his head. “Monbebe may not like that very much.”

“What are you talking about? Whoever he dances with is a monbebe. They will be happy that we're giving them real attention.” Kihyun argued. “Go Wonho!”

Wonho chuckled. “I don't know, maybe Shownu is right.”

Shownu smirked. “No, maybe I'm not. You gotta live your life. Go dance! Or invite one of them in to dance with you.” Shownu didn't want to ruin everyone else night simply because he wasn't really into it.

Wonho nodded and patted Shownu's shoulder. He told one of their security guys to invite a few of the fans in. The ladies came in and sat next to the guys.

The girl who sat next to Shownu kept talking to him expecting better responses than he was giving. “What's wrong with you?” She asked him playfully. “Am I not pretty enough?”

Shownu snapped out of it for a moment. He felt bad that he was being rude. “Oh no, you're gorgeous. I'm just in a weird mood tonight.” He replied with a smile.

The girl moved some of her hair behind her ear. “It's okay. Maybe I can help you feel better. Dance with me?”

“No you don't have to.” He replied with a small smile and looked away.

She stood up and grabbed his hand. “I insist that you dance with me. You love to dance and I love to have a good time so give me a chance to help you feel better!”

He stood up. He couldn't allow her to keep begging for his attention so he obliged. Maybe this would open him up a bit. He had been closed off for a few weeks and he needed to get himself out of whatever funk this was. He grabbed her hips softly as she swayed them from side to side.

She placed her arms around his neck. “Is it working yet?” She asked with a flirtatious smile.

He nodded. He couldn't lie, dancing was like therapy for him so it was helping and he couldn't deny this woman's beauty.

The other guys began dancing with the other females that were up there with them until something caught Changkyun's eye. He let go of the girl he was dancing with and moved closer to the safety railing so he could get a closer view of the dance floor which was downstairs.

Hyungwon followed his gaze and moved closer too. “Is that who I think it is?”

Changkyun jumped a little from the realization that Hyungwon was now standing next to him. “Boy, you scared me! So if they're here at this club that means Shownu could've possibly seen them at the mall too, right?”

“Maybe he's not going crazy. What are the odds though? We keep ending up in weird situations with them.” Hyungwon couldn't figure out how this kept happening.

“Should we tell Shownu though?” Changkyun asked.

“Tell me what?” Shownu asked in confusion.

Changkyun jumped again from shock. “Y'all have got to stop sneaking up on me like this!”

Shownu laughed. “Why are you so jumpy tonight? Lay off the beer.”

“It's not the beer, trust me!” He responded as he hit Shownu's arm.

Shownu scanned the dance floor to try and see if he could figure out why they were near the rail just watching especially when they had beautiful women in VIP with them. “So you guys would rather stand over here by yourselves watching everyone else have a good time than dance with pretty girls? That's strange.”

“I just don't feel good right now. That's all.” Changkyun lied.

Shownu simply nodded. The other guys gathered with them.

“What's wrong? Everyone just disappeared out of nowhere.” Jooheon asked as he held the hand of one of the girls.

“Changkyun doesn't feel good.” Shownu answered.

Kihyun scrunched his face up. “You were literally just fine like two minutes ago!”

“Well now I'm not. It may be something I ate. I just needed to get away for a second that's all.”He replied in a snarky way.

Wonho's eyes widened. “I think I see Misun and Nori.”

Shownu and Jooheon both snatched their heads in his direction. “WHAT?”

Wonho pointed at the two women who were dancing in a group with guys and girls surrounding them. “I could spot them from a mile away. They stand out.”

Jooheon dropped the fan's hand quickly and started walking towards the exit of the VIP section.

Shownu grabbed his arm to stop him. “What are you doing!?”

“What do you mean? I'm going down there!” Jooheon answered him quickly with a bit of an attitude.

“Weren't you the one telling me to basically move on?” Shownu inquired.

Jooheon sighed. “Yeah but they're here and so are we. When destiny calls, you come running now let's go down there and see what's up!”

Shownu licked his lips a little. “You know we shouldn't do that. They both have our numbers and neither of them have reached out to us. That means they don't care and we shouldn't push it.”

“That's bull! You're scared of rejection. You can continue this night in fear but you'll be doing it alone!” Jooheon snatched his arm away.

“I'm not scared of rejection. We've already been rejected, Jooheon! I'm not putting myself out there anymore just to keep getting the same reaction. They're here in Seoul and we still haven't heard a peep from them so what does that tell you? It tells me that Misun just isn't that into me! Do yourself a favor and take my advice.” Shownu's voice escalated a little as he talked to Jooheon. He was frustrated. He walked away and sat back down on the couch.

Jooheon glanced back downstairs to try and find Nori and Misun. He noticed Nori looking up towards where they were. For a second he thought she may have seen them but he shook the thought away and drank the rest of his beer up. “I'm ready to go right now.” He told the guys.

Ironman Cairns 70.3: The Bike & Run...

He put his arm around me and leaned in, talking low.

“This isn’t me being mean, this is just what we need to do.” I couldn’t be sure, but I think I recognized him as the man who asked last year in the middle of a monsoon in Indonesia, if I had another lap left. He continued gently, raising his voice just slightly to compete with my sniffles, “You’ve missed the cut-off, we don’t make them to be mean I promise,” I nodded, miserably. “But look, love,” I’m 99 percent sure he said something like that, if not the actual quote — the sentiment. “You are welcome to continue. You will be an DNF, but the course is open. Get out there and give it a go!”

I nodded again and carried my squished, hotel-made onigiri to the Run Out.

He wasn’t the only angel in T2, but we need to struggle through 90 km of biking before we meet her.

Where were we? Ah yes, fresh from having our hopes dashed in the inky foam of the Coral Sea. I found out after that Ryan had dialed up my mom on FaceTime to let her watch me pedal out, and when he saw that I was in a full hysterical breakdown, realized that there is nothing about my performance in any given triathlon that is safe going live. In the weeks since the race, I’ve had a realization about my relationship with the sport.

Being pregnant and giving birth is like a universally horrific and painful experience, right? And yet, there’s all these people out there with more than one kid. I was told it’s because “It’s so worth it in the end, you forget how awful it is.”

GIRL.

I remember every last excruciating millisecond of those 257 days. For that experience, that old yarn does not add up. BUT. Apparently I can spend a whole race scared and crying, and FAIL in the strictest sense of the word and come home and immediately pick races on the two continents I’m missing. (Ecuador and Cape Town, I’m coming for you.)

ANYWAY. We’re on the bike. I’d heard in the little performance art piece about the course the day before, that there’s a dude who just travels the world doing every single IRONMAN event, and he’s declared that the Cairns bike course is the most beautiful.

Oh, you beautiful tropical fish.

You can look anywhere but at the pavement right in front of you while you’re riding? What is that even like?

Someday, I’m going to start a very important translation service: taking the official Course Description copy and making it REAL. Here’s how they described it:

The undulating, and winding course will take athletes past Thala Beach Resort and Hartley’s Croc Farm to the turnaround point, approximately 6km south of Wangetti, before heading back to Port Douglas.

Here’s what it is:

Undulating STRICTLY means up and down, but there’s an undertone of gentle that… let’s just say on an out-and-back loop, there is no rejoicing in racing a downhill, there is only knowing that it will soon be a grueling uphill. The constant hills were tough, but what really ripped me to shreds was the texture of the road and the headwind. In the course brief, we’d been warned that the roads were “county roads” and that we’d be best to try to ride in the left-hand wheel rut. Like the pioneers did. I did not know much about the types of pavement before this race, but I now know that peculiar specifically to asphalt, is a soul-crushing theft of effort. I could NOT get a leg up on it. I pedaled and pedaled and watched my speedometer and worried.

I managed one successful water bottle exchange while still moving and felt like a (slow and wobbly) boss. The road up the coast and back was closed, blessedly. It took 30 miles or so, but eventually I stopped cringing and remembering the awfulness of last year with every course monitor’s scooter that roared up behind me, and I pedaled.

On the way back, I crested a hill and saw a tent. By this point, I was already doing the complicated math as to whether I was going to make it to T2 in time, and a guy stepped out from the tent and motioned with his hand.

OH GOD. IS HE PULLING ME OFF THE COURSE? IS HE GOING TO MAKE ME GET IN A SWEEPER WAGON?

“I just need to let you know,” he started…

NO NO NO NO NO

“That this is the top of the last hill!” He looked triumphant and helpful.

I started crying. Again.

I don’t know, fam, but I’m probably going to need some kind of special warning vest for next race.

Eventually, I was out of the winding coastal road, and on back roads in to town. Then, the wind kicked up. Now of course I didn’t expect the race to be a glassy pool and a spin bike in an air-conditioned room, but DANG. When they say Australia basically just wants to kill you, you don’t imagine your death will be from all the effort needed to overcome inertia, but here we are.

I hit what had to be one of the last aid stations, and wanted water badly. I hadn’t done a great job of eating on the bike, because eating at 20 mph is freaking hard, but I’d been hydrating pretty good. I considered trying to exchange bottles and then just stopped.

“I’m not good at this usually, and I’m really not good at it tired.” I explained to the nice volunteer.

Those last five miles… were peak struggle. Everything was screaming, I was sick of the wind, and I just wanted off the bike. Eventually I started seeing people on the run course. Oh yeah, I feel like THIS, and I have a half marathon to run now.

Fun vacation.

All I remember about getting to T2 is that it was full of bikes already. Suddenly, a lady in a volunteer shirt materialized next to me.

“You all right? Brilliant job, let’s get you to your spot.” She steered me through the racks as I walked my bike in a daze of tears.

“I’m okay. I’m okay. I’m just going to… I’m okay.”

I was trying to tell her my dismal scene needs I must act alone, but she wasn’t having it. She stayed next to my spot, chatting as I wobbled to get my bike shoes off. “Here’s the good news!” She continued. “While the cut-off has technically passed, you have loads of time!” There it was, the official proclamation that I’d busted. “One year,” she continued, “I only made it with ONE minute to spare. Another year, one of my friends took 12 whole hours to finish the Half, but he did it!”

Wait, I might be crying again…now.

“Why don’t you see what you can do? Start the run and see how it goes.” I got my running shoes and visor on, and slipped on my fuel belt. “You all right? Good luck, you’ve got this!”

I headed out, and got the official okay to keep going from the kindly course director at the beginning of this saga, and gingerly started to trot. This is where I finally felt like there was a part of me that could do this. All of the running off the bike all training cycle kicked in. I’d been WRECKED on the bike, and now I felt…okay?! What’s even happening?

I ran past Ryan and Frankie and told them I was going to give finishing a go, and trotted on. I WAS DOING THIS. The run course was flat as a pancake and packed with spectators. I started to catch up on the fuel I missed on the bike, and relished the full-fat Coke at each aid station. I wouldn’t touch the stuff if I wasn’t trying to kill myself physically in other ways, but when you are? It tastes like heaven. I had it on my Fuji climb last weekend, and can confirm — Gatorade, who?

There were still tons of 70.3 competitors out there when I started, but as they dwindled, I was VERY careful to make myself as invisible as possible. I stayed well out of anyone’s way racing the 140.6, hugging the shoulder of the path and waiting at the aid stations until they were totally clear before I approached. (The run course was on an esplanade with splash pools, which Frankie took full advantage of.)

Omg those aid stations when you’re not the last one on the course? STOCKED. The run was two laps of the same loop, so the second time through — finally feeling like I was going to very maybe finish this thing — I thanked the volunteers handing out watermelon, “This is my favorite restaurant in Cairns!” I had a lot of time to think on the course, and while I spent a lot of time feeling bad about taking so long, it occurred to me that if the race was only the fastest people, they would miss out on a heck of a lot of entry fees from us back-of-the-packers. While it’s weird to do a sport with professionals out there at the same time, I’d like to think by virtue of it being inclusionary, they can offer more amenities and support to everyone.

I don’t know exactly when I knew I would finish, maybe after the first loop, when my feet were still dry, there was no monsoon, and I was kind of feeling physically… fine? Fine-ish? I was IN THIS. No, I didn’t strictly run the entire way, but I kept moving forward, every single step that much closer to the finish line. Finally, I could hear the announcer and the bells and drums and cheering of the end.

Here’s where I put my finish in humiliating perspective: The woman who won the FULL had a faster time that me doing the HALF. I don’t know what to tell you guys, I’m slow AF. But I have a heck of a lot of Don’t Quit. I ran down the finish line shoot, with the guy on the microphone announcing my name. I got to the end, and he said, “It’s all right to stop now, you made it!”

And then I cried a little more.

I did all 70.3 miles of it this time, and THIS TIME, I got a daggone towel.

Triathlon takes a LOT of time. Not just racing one when you’re slow like me, but training. This was Ryan and Frankie’s race too. They let me disappear for half of every weekend day, they helped me get my bike on four different planes, they spent all day figuring out where I’d be when to cheer me on, and hung out on the esplanade for hours while I struggled away at the last 13 miles. And my coach, who kept me honest and on track and encouraged me the whole way, I couldn’t have done this without them. 

Triathlon IS a team sport, if you do it right.

(So I think in the whole “you forget how bad giving birth is” is because babies are so delightful? I mean, talk to someone who has both given birth AND eaten their first meal the day after a long-course race — this is not a comparison that works out well for babies if that meal is artisanal avocado toast and a Bloody Mary, I’M JUST SAYING.)

Part 1: The Swim...

Wait why would your apartment manager care if you had a reptile? They don't really make noise or anything plus they ain't gonna run loose and bite anyone.

It’s... 

Actually, it’s kind of an interesting story about a seedy Chicago real estate agency. So the apartments I live in had a pretty bad reputation- not that there was crime or anything, but I’m right by a bunch of hospitals and a lot of my neighbors are southeast Asians (mostly Indian) who are here for medical school. That’s not the problem. The problem is that Management Company A was having problems with housekeeping and maintenance in some of the units (which were built in the 80s and hadn’t been renovated in quite some time) and blaming it on them- I was once told by someone in the management office that “they don’t even let their women learn to read,” and he said that in all seriousness, like he thought I’d commiserate with him instead of saying “why would you say that, you know my neighbors are female medical students, that’s pretty racist.” They’d always been super nice to me, but, y’know. I’m white. I didn’t know how dang racist they were when I moved in, otherwise I wouldn’t have signed the lease. Anyways, Company A for some mysterious reason gets a lot of bad reviews on the apartments, they’re losing money and tenants, and so they sell out to Company B. And Company B was shady as hell. Company A informed us of the transition, and when Company B moved in, they went over everyone’s lease and found new and interesting ways to charge them. They tried to charge my elderly across-the-hall neighbor extra maintenance fees for her wheelchair- she had a power chair, and they were going to charge her extra fees for wear and tear, which is illegal. My animals are in my lease, and despite Company A telling me that there wouldn’t be any problems and that I’d be grandfathered in, Company B said they had a new pet policy: one dog under 25 pounds or one cat per unit, nothing else, and pet rent went up from a flat payment of 100 per year to 100 per month. And no pets would be grandfathered in- so if you had a big dog, you had to move. Suffice it to say, people were freaking out, me included. They also closed our swimming pool, took one of the elevators out of commission (that had JUST BEEN FIXED), turned off the air conditioning in the laundry room, and just generally made everyone miserable...

Until three weeks later, when Company B disappeared. They just up and left, didn’t tell anyone. Didn’t tell maintenance, didn’t tell the concierge- they just fucking left. There was no one in the front office for like a week, and then Company C moved in- and that’s who we’ve got now. They’ve done a lot of work to rebrand the apartments, including a new name, renovating all the units, and renovating the infrastructure and amenities buildings, and they went back to the original pet policy (no rodents and no aquariums over 60 gallons, which has more to do with the potential damage that 60 gallons of water dumped on the floor can cause than anything else). 

Company C is a pretty good management company. Company C’s agents, however, are all under a non-disclosure agreement re: what happened with Company B. I can find no mentions of Company B online, their website is gone, and the one e-mail I had during the less-than-a-month tenure of Company B gives me no clues as to what happened to them.

The Treasure of Castle McDuck

A/n: I’m sick of not doing anything with this random adventure, I’m not going to finish it up but I want to share it.

Summary: Uncle Scrooge takes the boys and Donald to visit Castle McDuck to make sure everything is in order, but the quest is on to find the treasure of Sir Quackly McDuck once and for all.

The Treasure of Castle McDuck

‘So what’s going on?’ Donald asked.

Scrooge grumbled to himself. ‘We’ll find Penny at the castle.’ He said climbing up onto the cart and snatching the reigns from Donald who winced. ‘Better sit down, boys, I haven’t got time to waste taking it slow.’

The boys all settled down in the cart and Scrooge cracked the reigns. ‘He-ya!’

The horse started moving.

The scenery was beautiful, Huey gave a smile as he recorded it all.

‘Is that for Webby or for class?’ Louie asked calmly.

Huey gave a smile. ‘Both.’ He switched the camera off and let it hang by the strap around his neck. ‘It’s really something isn’t it?’

Louie shot him a look and then looked to the sleeping Dewey. ‘Yeah.’

Huey rolled his eyes. ‘So why aren’t you on your phone?’

‘No signal.’ Louie grumbled.

Huey gave a smile. ‘Ah perfect bliss.’

‘Dang blasted!’ The cart slowed to a stop and Scrooge lept to his feet. ‘Oi! What’s the big idea putting a toll-way on a country road?’

‘Visitors pay the toll-fee-‘

‘Visitor!’ Scrooge yelled leaping from the cart onto the horses back. ‘I am Scrooge McDuck! I own most of this land!’

‘Get out of here, you canna be-‘

‘Why I oughta-‘

Donald gave a sigh. ‘How long since you were last here?’

Scrooge looked around to him. ‘That’s not the-‘

‘Like these kids know what you look like.’ Donald said and he reached around to a bag in the cart. ‘Where’s that passport?’

‘Passport! Why I-‘

‘Ah, here it is.’ Donald said pulling out an incredibly old and battered looking book, he hopped down from the cart and went over to the boys. ‘That should clear it up.’

The boys flicked through the book and gulped. ‘Beggin’ yer pardon, Mr McDuck, we didnae know it was you.’

Scrooge gave a growl. ‘What’re these tolls for?’

‘Road maintenance, the rains dang near washed the road completely away.’

Scrooge grumbled.

‘How bad is it?’

‘I navigated through the Dakota Badlands, I can manage a road.’

‘You might, but will the cart?’

Scrooge dropped down again on the cart and scowled.

‘Cain’t rightly say what all the road’s like, but the main road is frightfully boggy…’

‘Just like when I was hauling peat back in the day. Now open the damn toll-way.’

The two boys rushed to either side of the road and pulled the logs apart.

Donald barely had time to get back on the cart before Scrooge got the horse moving.

‘Geesh, the castle isn’t moving anytime soon, Uncle Scrooge.’ Donald said.

Scrooge shot Donald a glare. ‘No, but I’m not paying that boy any more to maintain the castle until I see how he’s been keepin’ it.’

Donald gave a sigh. ‘I should have guessed as such.’

‘Of all the insolent…’ Scrooge began griping again and Donald looked around to consider the boys, Dewey was awake now and Huey had stopped recording again, wincing.

Scrooge reined the horse in and leapt from the cart. ‘C’mon boys… come meet the family.’

They all hopped down from the cart and followed him through the cemetery, listening to Scrooge recite the family history, one grave at a time.

Dewey led the way through the castle, Huey taking a recording as they went. ‘This is amazing!’

‘Hey, what’s this?’ Dewey asked stopping. ‘It looks like someone swung a pickaxe here.’

‘Yeah… like they were trying to mine the wall.’

‘Let’s keep looking.’ Huey said. ‘If anything else we’ve got evide- Dewey look out!’ Huey rushed forwards dropping his camera on the ground and trying to fight the man who had grabbed Dewey.

‘Grab em…’

‘Hey! Let go!’

‘Run Louie!’

Louie did a take of the situation, three guys… no way was he strong enough to take them on, he grabbed the camera as he backed away, being sure to capture their faces on the film and then he ran, camera in hand back the way they had come. ‘Uncle Donald!’ He yelled out loudly.

‘I’m paying you to maintain the place not let it collapse underneath ye!’

‘Uncle Donald! Uncle Scrooge!’ Louie showed up panting for breath.

‘Oh there you are, lad… where are the other two?’ Scrooge considered him and Louie shoved the camera into his hands. ‘Three guys… looking for something…’

Scrooge turned his glare on the man. ‘Friends of yours?’

‘No sir, no idea what the lads talking about.’ Scrooge scowled and rewound the video finding the spot that showed three people and he held it out. ‘Who are they?’

‘They be the MacWarrens, never would expect this of them.’

Scrooge glowered at him. ‘Alright you listen here… if you’re in any way involved in this you’ll be paying back every shilling I’ve given you, go fetch the police.’

‘Aye sir.’ And away he scurried.

Scrooge turned and started forwards passing Donald the camera. ‘Come on.’

‘What are you kids doing here, anyway? Ghost huntin’?’ A bark of a laugh filled the air.

‘Don’t be stupid, no one’s seen any of the ghosts since the last McDuck died.’

Dewey mumbled against the gag.

‘What was that?’ The gag tied around his beak was undone.

‘Whoever told you that was wrong.’

‘Told us what?’

‘That Scrooge is dead.’

‘Scrooge?’ They looked between them. ‘Never heard of him.’

‘Talk about being rude, you break into a man’s ancestral home and don’t know his name?’ Huey said.

‘Ain’t no one living here.’

‘No but this is his castle, and he’s going to be really upset that you’ve kidnapped two of his nephews.’

‘Ah shut up.’ A slap of a glove on Dewey’s face made him wince but then he was gagged again. ‘We ain’t got time for this rubbish.’

Huey gasped and was gagged again, the three men went back to using their picks on the wall.

‘Pick up your sword boy! To arms!’

‘I told you-‘ The man looked from Huey to Dewey. ‘Alright, who said that, come on out!’

‘Could be the third one.’

‘He’s tied up you fool, how can he fight?’

‘Like a McDuck!’

Dewey considered his position and focussed on the situation, one hit into the ancient stone, this was his family’s ancient home being vandalised, another hit into the stone, he’d been kidnapped, slapped in the face, anger was filling him… A third hit into the stone, and they were going to keep doing this, for years and years, demolishing the entire castle one stone at a time for some long-lost treasure.

Huey mumbled next to him, trying to calm him down.

This was his family’s treasure in his family’s home, and they were going to keep on searching, this wasn’t the last of them… until the treasure was found… some stupid decision this had been! He adjusted, the ropes weren’t too tight around his wrists.

He squirmed silently slipping out of the ropes and ungagging himself before he undid Huey’s ropes. ‘Go get Uncle Scrooge.’ Dewey whispered.

‘Dewey, there’s three of them, you can’t take them all.’

‘I won’t have to if you hurry.’ Dewey hissed back.

Huey frowned and ducked away, and Dewey looked around.

He rushed over to a suit of armour. ‘May I?’ He muttered not expecting a response.

‘Aye, lad.’

He took up the sword and ran forwards with a shout bringing the sword down and the pickaxe was sent flying from the man’s hands.

‘eh? What the-‘

Dewey pointed the sword tip at the man’s chest. ‘Drop the picks or so help me.’

‘Ain’t that cute, the kid thinks he’s a toughie.’

‘Listen runt… there are three of us, and one of you.’

Dewey felt anger course through him, three?

‘Three of you? Bah, this boy is a McDuck through and through, he can take on an army!’

Dewey growled and spun around, bringing the sword down again with the full force of his anger, the sword went right through the middle of the pick splitting it clean in two.

The three stared at the remains and Dewey leapt forwards at the third man, the final pick clattered to the floor as the man was toppled backwards the sword pressed to his throat.

‘Get off of him! You little midget!’

Dewey used the hilt of the sword to knock the man out and he leapt to his feet swinging the sword.

‘Uncle Scrooge!’

He rushed over. ‘Huey? Where’s Dewey…’

‘He… said… to… come…’ Huey pointed down the stairs. ‘Too many stairs.’

Scrooge took the stairs three at a time the others following behind him.

He leapt down and stared around, three grown men, out cold on the ground and Dewey standing between them, he smiled slightly before rushing over. ‘Dewey? Are you alright?’

Dewey looked to him, and gave a slight smile before he passed out.

Scrooge caught him and lowered him to the floor checking for any injuries, besides a cut on the side of his beak Dewey was unharmed, Scrooge ruffled Dewey’s hair. ‘Atta boy, lad, take it easy now.’

‘There were these voices.’ Huey explained. ‘We all heard them!’

Scrooge sat silently next to Dewey who was sleeping on the lounge.

‘One of them told him to pick up a sword, and-‘

‘Oh come on, Huey, are you hearing yourself?’

‘I swear…’

‘Enough.’

‘What were they after anyway?’ Louie asked.

Scrooge gave a sigh.

‘Treasure.’ Everyone looked to Dewey. ‘In the wall.’

‘Is… he okay?’

‘Who told you about that, lad, do you know his name?’

‘Sir… Quackly.’

Scrooge leapt to his feet leaning over Dewey. ‘Is he with you now?’

‘Yes.’

‘Can he hear us?’

‘Yes.’

‘Uncle Scrooge?’ Louie asked.

‘Shh…’ Scrooge hissed waving them off. ‘Sir Quackly, this has to stop, the castle’ll be torn apart if this goes on.’

‘Then find it, lad, find it.’

Scrooge furrowed his brow and cursed silently. ‘Not even a hint?’

‘’Whence did thou become so impatient, Scrooge?’

‘I have to start with something.’

‘A challenge to you all then, the one who finds the treasure owns it.’

Scrooge looked around. ‘Alright.’

Dewey picked up the pick and walked forwards, somehow, he knew what he was looking for.

‘Am I cheating?’ Dewey asked quietly as he walked down a set of stairs. ‘What do I want treasure for anyway?’

He rounded a corner and gazed at the wall.

‘Sir Quackly, how did you get yourself into this situation?’ Dewey wondered as he lodged the pick into a tiny crack in the mortar. ‘Like seriously? How did you get into this situation? Who seals themselves in a wall? Treasure or not…’ Dewey froze. ‘Right, if Uncle Scrooge ever goes missing check the money bin thoroughly.’ He commented to himself before giving a smile. ‘I suppose it’s one way to be remembered.’ He continued levering the stone slowly out of place. ‘I should probably figure out how I’m going to top that one.’ Dewey said. ‘It’ll take me all my life to get that ending right.’

There was a chuckle of amusement. ‘Don’t be so certain, lad… Life throws many unexpected adventures one’s way.’

Dewey gave a grunt of effort and the brick fell away and Dewey started work on another brick, with a great rumble the wall collapsed, and Dewey leapt away… sure enough, collapsed in a suit of armour was a skeleton and a large chest was in his hands.

Dewey coughed on all the dust in the air as he dropped the pick and drew forwards. ‘Well, there it is, Dewey Duck treasure hunter strikes again.’ He tried to lift the chest. ‘Or not.’ He grumbled. ‘I need to get stronger if I’m going to keep finding treasure.’

‘Bless me bagpipes, you found it.’

Dewey looked around and gave a shrug. ‘It was actually rather obvious, this wall jutted out unlike the rest of the walls in the castle.’

Scrooge looked amazed.

‘Tell you what, Uncle Scrooge.’

Scrooge looked to him.

‘You can have the treasure, just leave me the castle.’ Dewey folded his arms with a smirk.

Scrooge considered him.

‘What am I going to do with treasure?’ Dewey asked calmly.

Scrooge came forward and opened the chest. ‘Alright then.’

Nocking Point Wine Tasting Party

Aka the event where I just had the most INCREDIBLE, amazing, fan-fucking-tastic night with Stephen Amell and my girls Jesi ( @jesileighs ) and Kristy ( @cbcbiology ) 

After many requests on twitter to write this out on tumblr here I am. This is long so take a seat! pictures are included and before you ask me “HOW THE HELL DID THIS HAPPEN?” let me tell you “I HAVE NO CLUE I’M SHOCKED AND IN AWE ABOUT THIS TOO!” ok? On with the story

We arrived at the Nocking Point Warehouse in Walla Walla around 6pm, after waiting to pay our $10 tasting fee and showing our ID’s to prove that yes we are all over the age of 21 we got inside the super crowded, super hot warehouse where all the action was happening. It was overwhelming, where do we go? what do we do? We all three kinda looked at each other and decided to go get ourselves some wine before we do anything else! While we were getting our drinks on, the amazing ladies who were servings us the goods totally let us know where Stephen was, he was so beautiful lol, there was a line to meet with him and chat and to MY SURPRISE it was relatively short, after getting our drinks we zoomed to get in line. It was while we were in this line that he showed us in his Instagram Video (i’m the girl in red behind the girl with the striped shirt)

While I was in line Jesi was making fun of me cause I was taking nonstop pictures of Stephen like these ones

So we were laughing and having a good time, drinking our REALLY YUMMY WINES (I had the bubbly myself, fucking delicious) waiting in line to meet this amazing man....

SO I DON’T KNOW IF YA’LL KNOW THIS! Cause I didn’t write about it but during the HVFF Portland, I was the girl that was taking all the pictures of Mini Felicity, you know the one he reposted on all his social media accounts? 

Yes this was me! And Jesi is Mini Felicity’s mom, ANYWAY’S BEFORE IT WAS EVEN OUR TURN STEPHEN SURPRISED US, Cause Jesi had her phone out, ready to facetime with Norah (mini felicity) cause she was upset that she wasn’t at the party to meet Stephen (or in her mind Oliver) again. Stephen saw that Jesi was facetiming someone and he just appeared behind her! wanting to know what was going on, when Jesi let him know he was facetiming with Mini Felicity HE LIT UP, IT WAS SO PRECIOUS! LOOK AT THE PICS I AIN’T LYING

I was shaking and taking pictures like crazy while all of this was happening, REMEMBER IT WASN’T OUR TURN YET! THERE WERE PEOPLE AHEAD OF US STILL WAITING!!! But the facetiming didn’t take a lot of time. When it was over he went back to the group before us, asked for a bathroom break and he left his wine glass and his water bottle with the girls in front as PROOF that he would come back! He comes back, they spend a lot of time chatting, Jesi, Kristy and I are all entertaining ourselves while we wait, I’m honestly just looking at him and how beautiful he is lol. 

 When it was finally our turn to chat with him we were SO EXCITED! We made sure to let him know that we were apart of the Mini Felicity crew, and he made a quip about us being the cool kids lol. We then asked if Emily Bett knew about Norah? Cause she never reacted on social media to let us know so we were dying of curiosity and after we asked him he was like “Yes of course she knows who Mini Felicity is!” but then its like a lightbulb turned on in this head and he took out his phone, SURPRISED US cause he had the picture of him hugging Norah SAVED IN HIS CAMERA ROLL and he just texted Emily the picture!!

WE WERE DYING!! LIKE OH MY GOD IS THIS REALLY HAPPENING????? It was and Emily replied SUPER QUICK, like instantaneous and he flipped his phone over and showed us her reply “Who dat? She's cute." to which his response was "Her name is Norah."

After that Cassandra walked up to us, and Stephen, Cass and Jesi were able to chat and compare stories about having cute little sassy girls who steal everyone’s hearts. (fyi Norah want’s to be Mavi’s playdate SO BAD) Since I got the feeling our time would be up I asked for a selfie with Stephen and he was like “Of course” my hand was shaking like crazy, I took my pic and i was like “I’m so sorry I can’t stop shaking” and he was like “Hey! It’s okay, I think we nailed it!” For the record I think so too!

I then took a pic of Stephen with Jesi and Kristy asked to take a pic with Stephen AND Cassandra, all the pics were CUTE AF, so anyways we got out of the line, thanked them profusely for all their time and giggled like crazy that THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED!! WE IMMEDIATELY went onto Twitter and shared all the info, pics and excitement, my mentions became a mess, and we are all so dang GIDDY! After that we spent hours just having fun, roaming around, drinking lots of wine, Jesi had a fish taco with mango salsa that she would not stop raving about, Kristy kept her company and I went inside so i could keep on drinking the bubbly (its my favorite okay??)  

FAST FORWARD A FEW HOURS! 

I’m drunkish, TIPSY okay. My face is flushed, I’m really just so HAPPY and having the time of my life, I had already made like 10 new friends just chatting about how awesome Arrow is and watching some intense LARGE JENGA games going down. Jesi, Kristy and I decide to refill our wine glasses and go to the corner that has the TV screen on with Arrow playing. Season 3 was on and it was all good until a FELICITY AND RAY *IMPLIED* SEX SCENE WAS HAPPENING. I WAS OFFENDED and I walked away lol, got myself some more wine. When I came back Netflix was asking us if we were still watching, we all cackled and the moment Jesi realized it was on netflix she was like “Alejandra change it to 5x20″ and i was like YESSSS. So I did.

and we were super proud of it too. 

At this point i’m at the stage where I’m on the floor, giggling and enjoying the life. taking selfies of myself drinking wine on snapchat, talking to everyone on twitter

AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN STEPHEN AMELL POPS OUTTA NOWHERE AND HE’S THERE??? HANGING OUT WITH US?????? AND THEN HE SAW ME ON THE FLOOR AND HE WALKED AROUND TO ME AND HE CUDDLED WITH ME????? I’M NOT LYING I WAS LIKE IN SHOCK BUT IT REALLY HAPPENED THERE ARE PICTURES

Ratchet and Kim Possible Chronicles: The Lombax Secret-Part 8

Within a few moments, they arrived at the Asteroid Belt. As soon as they landed and got out of the ship, the Kimmunicator went off again. Kim answered it. Kim: "Wade?" Wade: "Kim, I have some terrible news, there's been a…break in at a top secret lab here on Earth and…you're not going to believe what was stolen: the Pan-Dimensional Vortex Inducer." Kim: "What!? It was stolen!? Again!?" Clank: "Hm…the Pan-Dimensional Vortex Inducer? Is that the device capable of ripping the fabric of space and time by conjuring a black hole the size of Nevada?" Ratchet: "Heh! A black hole the size of Nevada? That doesn't sound very massive." Clank: "That may be, but it could seem otherwise to many on Earth; especially to those who have yet to see other planets." Ratchet: "Oh, right, sorry, I keep forgetting." Kim: "Well, regardless, it's still very dangerous. If it would fall into the wrong hands, such as Tachyon, it could be disastrous to other planets besides Earth. Heck, the entire Universe would be in great danger for that matter." Ratchet: "Yeah, you're right. That device by itself can cause a lot of damage, but if it were to be remodified by someone pure evil, well, that would be it for everyone. We need to find that device before anything terrible happens." Wade: "Well, thankfully, I know what happened to it: it was sold to another galaxy." Ron: "Really? Which galaxy?" Wade: "That's the bad part. It's been sold to someone within the Polaris Galaxy." Ratchet: "What!? The Pan-Dimensional Vortex Inducer is here!? In this galaxy!? Who was the buyer!?" Wade: "I don't have any intel on that yet. So far, I have nothing to suggest that even Tachyon was the buyer, but I'll keep looking." Kim: "Thanks, Wade. You do that."

Kim turned off the Kimmunicator. Ratchet: "Great, things just got a whole lot worse." Kim: "I agree. I won't be at ease until we find that device and have it returned to it rightful place." Ron: "Same here, KP."

They rushed off and trod through the area. Soon enough, they ran into the Smuggler. Smuggler: "Well, lookie here, seems as though you lot manage to survive a…previous ordeal." Kim: "You!? You've got a lot of nerve to say that after what you did to us!" Ron: "Uh…who is this guy?" Kim: "Just some smuggler that we ran into a while back. Don't pay any attention to him; he's a sleazebag." Ron: "Oh, he's one of those people, huh?" Smuggler: "Now, now, let's not be like that." Kim: "Why not? You just simply ejected us high above that massive city! If we weren't so resourceful, we would have been dead!" Smuggler: "Yeah…apologies for that. Perhaps I can…make it up to you with some vital intel regardin' this place." Ratchet: "What kind of intel?" Smuggler: "Like for instance, the owner o' that there space station ain't accustomed to visitors but I know a way to get you in there for a small fee, of course." Kim: "Alright, what's the catch?" Smuggler: "Oh, nothin', just a few things. You see, I'm in the market for collectin' and sellin' some…unusual parts from monsters. If you could find me a few of those parts, I'll gladly provide you with what I know."

The group seemed less than pleased by the Smuggler's request. Kim: "(grunt) It seems as though we don't have a choice. Come on, let's go fill this scum's wish list."

Kim walked off with Ratchet and Clank. Ron stood by for a bit. He was very unhappy. Ron: "(groan) Do we have to?"

He went off after them.

They went around the entire area, searching for everything on the Smuggler's list. It was very tough and excruciatingly time consuming. None of them wanted to do this, but they really were out of options at the time.

After they searched long and hard, they found everything that they needed to look for, then went back to the Smuggler. They handed everything to him. Smuggler: "Well, how about that? You've gotten everything on my list." Ron: "You'd better appreciate this! We risked our hides trying to retrieve them!" Smuggler: "Now, now, don't get your baggies in a bunch. I'll give you what you want. I'm a man of my word." Kim: "Somehow, I find that hard to believe." Smuggler: "Now then, to get into the space station, you'll need to make your way through the Sigma-3 Maintenance Hub. Afterwards, everything else will be…easy to get through." Ron: "Why do I have a feeling that what he's saying is anything but easy?" Kim: "Because it usually isn't. Regardless, it's nothing we can't handle. Right, Ratchet?" Ratchet: "You know it."

They then made their way towards the Sigma-3 Maintenance Hub. There, they stood and looked around the place before they began their extensive trek through the entire area. Ron: "Now then, where to go from here?" Kim: "We follow the direct path." Ron: "Uh-huh…and the direct path is…what exactly?" Kim: "Uh…I'm sure Ratchet will be able to figure it out. Right, Ratchet?" Ratchet: "Don't I always?"

They began navigating themselves through the complex maze. It was one of a multitude of gravity defying puzzles of mechanical proportions. Clank seemed to be drawn in by something. Clank: "Curious. That generator must be powering a Sigma-3 gravity simulator, with proto-morphic ionization synthesizers." Ron: "Uh…did anyone understand a word he just said?" Ratchet: "Hardly."

They kept on going through the complex maze. After a long trek that was anything but fleeting, they were able to find an elevator shaft. Clank: "Ratchet, Ron, Miss Possible. I believe that could be our point of entry." Kim: "I agree. Let's go."

They made their way into the elevator and were lifted up into the space station. As soon as they got inside, they had a chance to look around the entire place. Ron: "Whoa…just look at this place…" Kim: "I know…it's quite amazing…" Ratchet: "Cool, check out that terrarium." Clank: "Hm…it seems whoever constructed this station wanted an oasis as well as a fortress." Kim: "Apparently…"

Just then, they heard a voice on the loud speakers. Voice: "Attention, intruders. This is Lieutenant Commander Zephyr of the Apogee Space Station. Lay down your weapons and prepare for a whuppin'" Kim: "Huh, it seems like that scumbag smuggler wasn't bluffing about whoever lives here not liking visitors." Ron: "Uh…did he just say "whuppin'"?" Ratchet: "Let's just ignore it and get through this place already."

They began their trek through the interiors of the space station. Zephyr: "This is your final chance. Lay down your weapon so you may receive the a-fore mention whuppin'." Ron: "Seriously, who says that anymore?" Kim: "Nevermind that. Let's just keep going."

They continued in further a little more. Shortly afterwards, they heard another voice on the loud speakers. Voice: "Intruder alert! Intruder alert! Intruder…am I doing it right?" Zephyr: "Stay in character, you dern fool." Voice: "Intruder alert! Intruder alert! Intruder alert!"

That kept repeating on and on for a little while. Ron: "There's another one?" Kim: "Just who are these guys?"

They progressed through a bit more. Voice: "Attention, you whippersnappers. This is Chief Admiral Cronk. We are activating the thermo-splinter defenses. Desist all youthful activity and return from whence you came." Kim: "Huh, just as I thought. They're a couple of old geezers. No wonder why their vocabulary is so dated." Cronk: "Hey! I heard that, little missy!" Ratchet: "Let's just keep going, you guys, we've handled worse." Kim: "Yes we have."

They just kept on going, fighting through a lot of the space station's defenses. Zephyr: "They're breakin' into the aqua duct. Release the hydro-mined defenses." Ron: "I don't like the sound of that!"

As they swam through the aqua duct, they dodged many of the mines that were sent out. There were a few close calls here and there, but they were able to make it through. Zephyr: "Dang it all! They're swimmin' in our fishin' hole!" Ron: "This is a fishing hole? What do they fish here? Mines?" Cronk: "Them kids are probably hyped on that rap music. Get off my lawn!" Kim: "Seriously! Who are these guys?" Ratchet: "Don't know, but something tells me we'll find out once we reach the end of this place."

They fought their way through the terrarium and continued on towards another chamber. Zephyr: "Activating the inner perimeter defenses."

Said defenses were activated as such. Ron: "There are more of these things?" Kim: "Come on, Ron, we can handle them."

They fought through more of the defenses. They soon ran into some stacks of boxes and smashed them out of habit. Cronk: "Hey! I just stacked those, you vandals!" Kim: "Uh, sorry, force of habit."

Despite the mess, they continued forward. Zephyr: "These whippersnappers won't listen! They just won't heed our warnings." Cronk: "Heed, whippersnappers! Heed!" Clank: "Hm…perhaps we should reason with them." Ratchet: "Sure, they promise to give me the Lombax Secret; I promise not to blow them up." Kim: "That's not what Clank had in mind." Ratchet: "Yeah, I know and I don't care." Kim: "Ratchet…" Ron: "I'm with Clank on this one; I like reasoning better than blowing up." Ratchet: "Ron, not you, too…"

They continued rushing through, proceeding further in. At that moment, laser grids were activated and attempted to impede them. Clank: "(giggle) Laser grids. How amateurish." Cronk: "Zeph! We need those turrets back on line." Zephyr: "10-4! Rerouting primary compositors." Ron: "Oh, no, not more turrets!" Ratchet: "Ron! Quit your bellyaching and keep going!"

They continued on and entered another chamber. As soon as they entered, the sounds of the unknown voices were changed from a loud speaker to a transmitter. Cronk: "We've got the rascals right where we want 'em!" Zephyr: "Keep at it, Cronk! On my signal, unleash heck! Um…now?" Kim: "Did you guys hear that? The transceiver projecting their voices sounded different." Ron: "Could they be close by?" Ratchet: "Most likely. Let's keep at it, you guys."

They kept on fighting through more of the defenses. It was indeed a tough battle, but they were eventually able to bring down the last of the station's weaponry. Cronk: "We've lost our primary field generators! We're sitting ducks!" Kim: "Great, now's our chance. Let's rush them." Ron: "Oh, yeah! No one blasts away at our hides and gets away with it! Booyah!" Rufus: "Booyah!" Ratchet: "Let's go."

They hurried themselves toward a metal door nearby, but found that it was sealed tight. Kim: "Well, that's great. They door's locked." Ron: "So, how do we get in?"

At that moment, the Zoni reappeared. They surrounded Clank and uploaded something into him. The others immediately took notice of Clank's new modification. Ron: "Whoa…Clank, how did you get that?" Clank: "Um…I…" Kim: "Doesn't matter right now. It should at least get us inside, right?" Ratchet: "Uh, how exactly?"

Just then, a signal went off. Clank: "I think I may have found something. This way."

He utilized his newest modification: the Geo-laser, to cut a doorway into a nearby wall, gaining the group access to the closed-off room. Ron: "That was amazing, Clank!" Clank: "(giggle) No…big." Ratchet: "Come on, let's get inside."

They made their way into the room. Ron: "So…how was it you got that thing?" Clank: "Why, from the Zoni." Kim: "The…Zoni?" Clank: "Yes." Ron: "Uh…what…is a Zoni?" Clank: "They are invisible robots that only I am able to see apparently." Ratchet: "Uh…right…" Zephyr: "There are the scoundrels!" Cronk: "Pulverize them!"

Suddenly, 2 robots came charging at them. The group stepped back a little, causing the robots to run into each other. Zephyr: "Ow…my thruster coils…" Kim: "Um…I'm guessing you guys are…Cronk and Zephyr…?" Ron: "Wait! These were the guys that tried to kill us?" Kim: "Hm…apparently…" Voice: "Thanks, guys. I'll handle it from here."

Soon enough, a young girl came down via jetpack. She pointed her blaster at the group. Girl: "Congratulation! You just won an all expense paid trip out the airlock." Ron: "Uh…what?" Girl: "I hope you guys don't mind letting yourselves out; I hate the popping sound of bodies decompressing in space." Ron: "Uh…I don't want to have my body decompress in space…" Kim: "Hold on for a sec. Why does everyone in this galaxy have a thing against my friend? I mean, yeah, I get it, he's a Lombax and everyone in this galaxy hates his kind, but I won't stand another…" Girl: "Wait! Did you say…Lombax?"

The girl then took notice of Ratchet's pointy ears and lion-like tail. Girl: "He is a Lombax! Guys, lower your weapons!"

Both robots did just that, the group became very confused. Kim: "Huh?" Ron: "Uh…" Girl: "Heh, sorry about the…misunderstanding, you guys. We don't get a lot of friendly visitors anymore or ever for that matter, especially from a Lombax." Kim: "Wait! You mean to tell me that you don't hate Lombaxes?" Girl: "Why should I? They're heroes! They saved all of us from falling under the control of the Cragmites! Only members of the Empire would have a reason to hate them." Kim: "I see…actually, that does make sense. By the way, who are you?" Girl: "My name is Talwyn Apogee. My father owns this entire space station. Those 2 over there are…" Kim: "Cronk and Zephyr? Yeah, they introduced themselves on the loud speakers." Talwyn: "Uh…yeah…of course…so, who are you guys?" Kim: "I'm Kim Possible. This is Ron Stoppable and Rufus. The robot over there is Clank and the Lombax is Ratchet." Talwyn: "Nice to meet you guys. So, how was it that you were able to find us?" Kim: "Well…let me start at the very beginning. You see, it all started when…"

What is the purpose of car insurance?

"What is the purpose of car insurance?

Now I understand what car insurance really does, they cover losses mainly out of pocket, reduce risk which covers costs of many, but I have trouble understanding why a company is needed to do this. Lets say on an average a person pays 150/month for coverage. Over time this money adds up. After one were to be in a collision, they are presumably covered, yet a deductible is payed, then they increase the payments.  I fail to see the purpose when they are just pretty much using your monthly payments to pay for these fines. Lets say you had a glass jar, and you put 200 a month in there, is the concept not the same? Even if you were to never get into an accident in your lifetime, do you see a dime of your money?  I just really want to know if there is a true reason, or purpose for insurance, because I fail to see past it as a scam.

I will be going to the US soon. I am a US citizen but do not live in the US. I will be going to visit family for a month and will be renting a car. My question is this, do I need to get the insurance from the vendor or is there a 3rd party insurance I can puchase? I am just at a loss as a new driver. Passed my test recently and just cannot find affordable car insurance it's madness. The cheapest quotes that I am getting are 4000 and I think it's disgusting. So my parents are out of town for the weekend and my aunt is watching us. My brother has his permit and he was driving my aunt & I around. My aunt was in the passenger seat. So my mom called saying that my brother can't drive until she gets back because he is not under her insurance. Is this true ? Or is she just saying that ?

Hello Yesterday, I passed my driving test and am, of course, really looking forward to driving. I spotted a Renault Clio I liked with a 1.1 litre engine. It's nothing special, just a first car (which would mean the world to me) I was always aware insurance was going to be a struggle. I insured myself with Provisional Marmalade while I was still learning, so I could drive my mum and dad's car as additional practice. Prov. Marm. have another part to their company, Young Marmalade for newly passed drivers, apparently giving you the best quotes, however I couldn't find anything under 3000! I am a 17 year old boy living in the Northeast of Scotland, one of the most common places for a collision in the whole of the UK. However, I am not in anyway a dangerous driver. My dad has been driving for 50 years and told me he feels very safe while driving with me as a learner, and I always stay within the speed limit, with the exception of if I don't realise I'm doing over the limit. My mum and dad have been saving some money for me for about 10 years, but it's only about 1300, and I don't have any more money apart from that. It's not going to be enough and I have really been let down by the insurance, because that Clio I saw was 600. The lowest quote I managed to find was 1634.70 a year from the Co-Operative Young Driver insurance, and with that you get a device fitted in your car to monitor how you drive, and if you drive within speed limits, and safely, I guess your monthly cost comes down a little bit. Anyway, I'm waffling on here. My question was, does anybody know of a REALLY good insurer for 17 year old boys who would: -take their price down for one of thse devices being fitted -offer decent discounts for Pass Plus or an Advanced Driving course? A car and amazingly cheap insurance would mean the world to me at the moment, because there's nothing worse than the feeling of only getting 1 minor fault on your test then realising you can't drive due to the greedy bastard insurance companies. What is the purpose of car insurance?

Now I understand what car insurance really does, they cover losses mainly out of pocket, reduce risk which covers costs of many, but I have trouble understanding why a company is needed to do this. Lets say on an average a person pays 150/month for coverage. Over time this money adds up. After one were to be in a collision, they are presumably covered, yet a deductible is payed, then they increase the payments.  I fail to see the purpose when they are just pretty much using your monthly payments to pay for these fines. Lets say you had a glass jar, and you put 200 a month in there, is the concept not the same? Even if you were to never get into an accident in your lifetime, do you see a dime of your money?  I just really want to know if there is a true reason, or purpose for insurance, because I fail to see past it as a scam.
