hi! Im so sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, I've looked for answers for this before so I'm just not sure,,
i absolutely adore your sims and your story! Its completely inspired me to create a story w/ my sims as well! the only thing is I'm quite overwhelmed with it all and I don't know where to start :(
do you have any tips? Whats your process? there's so many things to use and I'm just curious what you use! Thanks in advance and no pressure to answer if this is the wrong place :))<33
HAI :D OMG EXCITING <3 no worries! my inbox is always open for assistance and i'd love to help! here's a bunch of tips ranging from writing to technical to artsy stuff:
the start:
⟡ i should preface this story did not begin as one typically would which is say following the example of how to write a novel in a year. my writing style for this project started out with my interest in the characters created. my desire to wanting to know why certain oc's acted the way they did and that's where it all began. what started out as short stories of certain individuals reworked into something much more authentic. this was the hook for me so you gotta find that one sliver of interest and run with it. you can most certainly utilize tools like character sheets, pinboards, storyboards to assist you but i find that if i'm not connected to the story, it's difficult to use them
⟡ with that being said LOL invest the time in fleshing out your character because when you understand how they work, when you believe in them, the easier it'll be in creating scenes and writing dialogue. for me, it's almost intuitive writing for characters to the point where i will easily check myself and rewrite a scene because it didn't align with a certain character
⟡ while the influence of your own ideals/experiences eventually bleed into an oc, it's important to identify that, otherwise a cast of diverse characters eventually feel the same. this was something i struggled with for years which is why i could never really begin until now!
⟡ it's good to ask yourself what sort of story do you want to create. the best question is is it plot driven or character driven? what sort of tone do you want to set? do you want to blend them? i think there's a huge stress on just doing things for fun and not taking things seriously but i do want to challenge others to consider what that might look like for others. sometimes people like to create grand posts or fun slice of life posts and neither is more valid than the other. it's truly up to the author
technical stuff:
⟡ i'm gonna be honest with you, i'm not as organized as i once was in how i go about plotting things however! in the beginning, i would utilize sticky notes with ideas written on them and then shuffle around how i wanted things to play out. now i use a dingy little notebook LMAO but i've heard good things about milanote! as for dialogue, i do use google docs but i do think they're under fire for using your things for ai training or somethin O_O
⟡ i do use photoshop to edit my photos and that usually looks like cropping, color/contrast enhancing and sharpening. i do add dialogue last because when i sharpen it all together, the font looks cwispy! there's this mini tut by @/stinkrascal on how to format the text so it's all even if that's the style you're going for! anyways it changed my LIFE lmao! right here are some free alternatives. also this is an older post in which i shared my process and it includes some tips and tricks with photoshop (you can also see how i used to format text lmaooo)
⟡ knowledge is power. if i find myself really struggling with certain aspects, like maybe the logistics of a character, i'll set aside some time to learn from certain authors, commentators or directors. even if it's a short clip of seeing how they approach something as simple as their thought process behind how a scene supported a character to something as small as the significance of Isha's hat from Arcane
misc writing tips:
⟡ ooh! because tessellate is such a large group of characters, it can be challenging to structuring a plot. so i started off by slowly introducing characters rather than all at once. i also break up character plots into arcs but with that comes filler episodes to help space out big moments. i like to utilize filler episodes as bite sized pieces that introduces the readers to newer characters while also allowing there to be breaks in between. those filler posts highlight certain events, ways of living, etc that might influence how things play out in the future. a good example is kai, we're nearing the end of his arc but all of those little moments in between really helped shaped how things played out!
⟡ when i think of conflict, i think of it a lot like a boiling pot. it starts out at a neutral temperature (your foundation), before bubbles begin to form (minor annoyances between characters), steam hissing (the lead up) to an eventual lid popping off (the conflict). the build up is the most important part to the pay off!
⟡ my best piece of advice for darker themes is really understand the topic and stray away from stereotypes as it diminishes a lot of depth in certain subjects as well as does more harm than good. recognize that at the end of the day a weakness does not define a person as they are a person through and through. approach it with compassion rather than judgement.
⟡ i know i know everyone says to read your dialogue out loud and that is incredibly important however while doing that, think about the flow too. as a writer, because we are goal oriented, sometimes dialogue can be turned into what will progress the plot which makes things feel a bit unnatural and sometimes lacking the proper flow. remember to consider the personality of a character. how is a line delivered through a character who is brash versus one who is a bit more reclusive? also! here's a great video about the stiff dialogue in veilguard that shows what unnatural dialogue can sound like.
⟡ remember, comparison is the thief of joy. it's easy to get caught up in recognition and likes. there was a time where i consistently got 3-5 readers and that was it. there are moments now where certain posts are incredibly inconsistent in engagement and sure, it can be disheartening but then i think about the handful of individuals that consistently comment, the specific asks about how a certain post made them feel seen and interact and i remember why it's i chose to write. it isn't the recognition i seek, it's the connection. it's important to have that one thing that gives you the strength to continue because truthfully, things can be inconsistent and that's okay.
the artsy stuff:
⟡ i am a huge fan of cinema, animation and photography. i think consuming a lot of media and art has helped train my eye especially if i feel as if my screenshots are becoming repetitive. it's good to see how different directors go about framing dialogue. comic panels are amazing as well since artists find new unique ways of captivating an audience through levels like coloring, framing, posing and such! it's honestly why i introduced some vertical shots to black out bars in story posts because of that unique angle! remember, media is meant to inspire you! after watching the latest season of Arcane (haven't finished it yet tho) it genuinely relit a fire under my ass LMAO
⟡ different angles, lighting and positioning can help elevate a story. the aesthetics of a story can really add another layer of depth however it's important to remember that it is a supporting role, not the entire role
⟡ i do use my own reshade and i've formatted it to have similarities of a film camera as well as my preference of color correcting. i lean heavier towards contrast, colors and shadows however i always encourage for people to look into what supports their vision the best! the lightroom shader by quint and pd80's contrast/brightness/saturation shader help with color grading in game as they do have sliders that tweak certain colors. the sepia shader is great for adding a cinematic tint but it can conflict with relight and the way the lights are presented. relight of course can add those shadows in lighting. i'll sometimes have two presets, one for up close shots to further shots because sometimes zooming out can create inconsistencies in your preset as things might look to muggy or like a disco ball LOL (ps what helps with that is adjusting bloom if used and messing around with shadows/midtones/highlights/saturation with that lightroom shader)
last but not least, a story is a labor of love, it's a tool in which authors can utilize the pen to their own manner whether it's to communicate ideas or to simply tell a tale. don't be afraid to dive deep into the layers of your story and remember each piece can be important factor but it's entirely up to you as to where you want that focus to be. it does take a lot of courage to start but i truly believe if it's something you cherish, it'll always be worth it!
i do wish you the best of luck! thank you for trusting me enough to give you some tips and tricks! i tried to lean more into the more finite details as i felt like this is what truly helped me throughout the years! <3 also here is a complimentary meme i made:

Actually yeah you’re real for that getting into messy drama fr just isn’t worth the effort especially with crazy people who will spin it out of proportions….struggle is real ugh but yeah slow ghosting is the move LMAO
SHSHSHS not me forgetting too even though your pfp is right in my face im sorry shinah….but no I was actually tweaking like wdym we got PANDA mf PANDAS BACKSTORY and not Inumaki??? Don’t get me wrong I love panda but you’re telling me a cursed doll has more lore moments than Inumaki goodbye (at least he’s alive)
SHSHSHSHS the way she’s been dubbed fanon Shidou now is so funny but you saying that just to annoy her at first is so funny but AGREE he definitely looks a lot more deranged in the anime too (which works because I mean he is) there’s definitely some earlier panels where he looks ok (I think some moments when he’s first with junpei too!)
NO FR it’s not the same because indigo league he was immature but funny as hell like him misty and Brock just roasting the hell out of each other and doing random shit but alola is like….catered to elementary students reboot happy friendship wahoo idk it’s not as entertaining but lowk a rewatch may be in order…..
WJDHSKSJ you pulled out that “1 question part abcdefghijklmnop” format but that’s so real because people on wp can fr find anything to shit on but about point c I think it’s really funny because they WOULD complain about that but I bet readers complaining to like “MF KARASU THAT GIBLE WAS MINEEEEE” LMAOAOA anyways
AHAAHAHAHAH THAGS ACTUALLY SO FUNNY that mutual really spreading the word im crying honestly your long fics could actually be stand alone media soooo
WAITTTTT save that thought for that one vague Karasu req you have…I’m crying otoya giving him a fan meet ticket thinking it was a scam too that’s so otoya coded but KARASU fanboying so hard that reader doesn’t even realize he’s a hotshot too and she looks up match clips and sees a completely diff persona on field LMAOOO if you don’t find anything else I vote this idea for that req
SHSHS NEXT TIME TRUST it’s ok the pink Nagi is very easy on the eyes LOL
- Karasu anon
i’m so drama averse i also hate hurting people’s feelings (though i’m the first to make a sassy comment it’s either lighthearted/in good fun or to someone who genuinely deserves it) so my default is just running away HAHAHA luckily we ended up going to different universities so it was pretty easy to transition out of friendship
shinah is like a back burner man…he’ll always be there for me when i need him but he’s not forefront in my mind yk?? and yeah gege gave a surprising amount of depth to panda given what he is SDFHSLKD meanwhile inumaki was left with nothing 😭 i wish he had given inumaki an alternative way of talking that wasn’t ingredients like sign language or smth!! although i can see how drawing sign language might be difficult but like what’s stopping him from carrying around a whiteboard and a marker?? that would maintain the silliness while also allowing for more serious moments (kind of like his reaction to tullia’s death in pi — not a single “salmon” was dropped because it would completely ruin the vibe of the scene, but he still couldn’t talk so i made him write on a piece of paper which i ended up really liking as it still posed challenges for him in communication [such as y/n refusing to read what he wrote at first] without taking away his agency completely)
LMAOOO fanon shidou is just so perfect as a description for her it’s hilarious SDLHJFSLDJK but yeah i was specifically talking about season one of the anime (i only picked up the manga in between s1 and s2) in the fight against itadori and nanami right after junpei dies he has some very pretty scenes i can’t even lie HAHA but he also has a LOT of deranged/hideous ones so for the most part megumi and yuta stayed as my boys
yeahhh that’s what i was thinking like indigo league is just all of them being deranged (not just the main trio but gary, prof oak, team rocket…all of them were insane) even his pokémon had sm more personality (the de-sassification of pikachu is tragic) whereas alola just gives me sanitized vibes plus the colors are too bright and i think the art style is too round?? the earlier seasons had a completely diff art style that was just typical of the time instead of being purposefully childish yk…XY REWATCH AFTER BLLK S2 DARE I SAY???
HELP questions like that always have me crash out because like that’s not accurate branding??? fr though people on wattpad will find something to complain about TRUST and omg no that’s so real reader’s still pissed about karasu taking gible (although to be fair i feel like his rebuttal would be that she already has hydreigon [pseudo-legendary dragon] and nidoking [ground type] so she doesn’t really NEED a garchomp which is true so she doesn’t have a huge problem with it…OTOYA on the other hand never gets over it)
imagine a movie on hollyhock or like a really high budget tv series i think it would be so good…and pursuit ofc HAHAHA even peregrine could work as a movie not to mention pomegranate ink (deserved to be jjk canon) further self glaze here but yeah i always wish they could be animated or filmed or something i think it would be so cool to see that
OTOYA BUYING THE TICKET it’s so him too he’s like maliciously giggling to himself because he’s about to play an epic #prank on karasu and then it turns out that he accidentally bought a real ticket?? PLS karasu is so shy and such a fan that reader’s like “no way this dude can be famous” and then she looks him up and the first result is just a “tabito karasu cussing out his teammates for 10 minutes straight” youtube compilation of him swearing at shidou and zantetsu (the second result is a “tabito karasu rizzing up his opponents for 7 minutes straight” youtube compilation of him calling chigiri “princess” and talking about hiori’s left leg)
I DO LOVE THE PINK NAGI i think it’s so aesthetic hehe especially the header (i also love the pinned post but he looks so pretty in my header hehe) the pink also goes really well w the yona pfp so all in all i’m happy with it atm…i am a frequent theme changer though as you know so who’s to say what’ll be next?? sae theme

kewpie's slapdash tips and tricks for making moodboards
ive been asked a few times about how i make my moodboards and my MethodTM so here it is!
this is an image heavy post and as detailed and comprehensive as i can possible make it, if you have any questions let me know and i'll help if i can!
also, this is made with sites and apps for desktop- i have no experience editing on mobile so if that's what you're looking for im afraid i cant help you, sorry! ↷↷↷
Choose Your Fighter
let's get right into it- first thing first choose a character, or a ship or a series or whatever! i'll be doing a ship because it's a teeny bit more involved than just a single character or series
the ship will be grim x mandy from the one show
Picking Pictures
obviously the most important part of a moodboard is the Pictures
i use pinterest personally, and finding them on there is usually pretty easy, especially if i have an idea of things i want to include. a lot of people already have boards made up for characters as well, so just searching the character names under the 'board' option will usually get you where you need to go!
but i know some people prefer sources with free to use, royalty free type images, so i included those as well:
pixabay unsplash
you can have as many or as little as you'd like, but personally i prefer the classic 9x9 grid style moodboards, so im obviously gathering 9 photos
as for what pictures to choose, here are some things to ask yourself:
do you have a color scheme you associate with this character/ship? are there any themes that are relevant?
these are the pics i choose for my board- they're raw, unedited, and uncropped, which we'll be changing here in a bit
notice that ive chosen the color scheme of pink, black, and white because that suits them and is also the colors in their actual character palettes
ive also picked some things that feel relevant to the ship and its vibes- mandy is associated with daisies, so i got a picture with a girl with a daisy in her eye, which i also paired with a skull with a flower in its eye socket, bringing them together with a common theme. there are also little black shoes and a bloody knee for mandy, a psythe and what could work for cerberus for grim, and since their ship is kind of gruesome and mean spirited (affectionate) as well as the show having pulpy vibes, i got a heart shaped steak, a pulpy romance/horror cover, and an old horror movie card with their VibesTM
Formatting
now that we have our pictures, its time to figure out the formatting! i went ahead and already did that with the pictures above using a site ipiccy, specifically the 'collage' options
ipiccy
once you press 'collage', you'll open up to this menue, where im choosing the 9x9 grid, but as you can see there are other options there if you wanna use them! then you're gonna press 'add images'
then you add images here (mine are already loaded in):
afterwards, you play around with the placement of the images- its okay if they clip or dont properly fit in the box, this is Only figuring out where you want the pictures to go, we'll place them properly later in a different program
when im placing them i like to consider patterns and shapes- top left square is a 'mandy' square, so bottom right should be a 'grim square', as well as echo each other- in this case the flowers in the eyes thing, and so on, even down to the pointy little shoes and the pointy little sythe this part can be v subjective, so i encourage you to play around until it clicks for you
i hope my scribbles kinda help explain visually what i mean:
also as a small personal tip: when i make moodboards i want to capture the feeling of a character/ship/what have you Without just Saying it. because of that i lean more heavily on the pictures themselves and Only ever use One that has text on it. again this is subjective, but to me its a 'telling vs showing' thing and too many words makes the whole thing feel v cluttered with little room for the actual characters involved
once you're satisfied with your placement, take a screenshot to reference your placement, and then we move on to
PS/Photopea, Templates, Adjustments, and PSDs
this is where we get really into it
firstly, i know most people either dont have PS or are nervous about downloading a cracked version (def do not click this because it is def not a link to older ps files you can dl for free) but luckily there's an extremely comprehensive in-browser option that is totally free called Photopea, which can be found HERE
its basically a 1 to 1 rebuild of the real thing, and since its more accessible i'll be using that to finish up my board!
first, you'll wanna throw your template in there, here's the one im using
once you open it, you also need to open the pics you chose to use- i suggest doing this one at a time to not overcrowd the program
once the pic is open, copy it and paste it over onto the moodboard, and then right click the layer and set it to 'clipping mask' which will keep the pic within the bounds of just the template:
then go over the toolbar on the right, press the 'rectangle select', then right click the board and select 'free transform' to move the picture around freely:
now is where you look at the screenshot you took of the ipiccy placement, and then you simply move the picture in the proper place in the moodboard! you might need to select and cut off the part that doesnt fit neatly into the square
continue doing this until you have it all filled out, and take some time to properly fit the pics (for example, the pic with the text needed to be (to does this is photopea drag around the corners while in 'free transform, and if you dont want it to scale at the same dimensions press 'shift' on the keyboard while you drag, which is what i had to do with the text or the flower-in-the-skull to make it fit properly))
its important that All your layers are properly set to clipping mask, otherwise it'll be all messed up! so it should look like like this when you're done, and hopefully everything will be layered on the board properly, and we end up with this:
you could stop here and be done with it, the entire moodboard can be finished now, but i like to tweak things like contrast and value and levels, which are found here in the 'image' section at the top- ive been as tutorial-esque as i can be so far, but this one really comes down to playing around with it and making adjustments until you like the outcome (each layer can be changed individually)
i try to make it so everything feels even- the blacks match and the whites match and none of them feel particularly lighter or darker or more saturated than the others
so we go from this:
to this (if you cant tell the difference i didnt do it well ljksdf, its helped further along and made more obvious by the next step) :
and Finally the secret sauce: PSDs!
these are premade colors/effects that you drop on top of board to help even things out, maybe make some colors Pop
there are a Ton of them free to use on tumblr and deviantart, and Here is a tutorial on how to use them! (its done on mobile but works functionally the same as on desktop)
feel free to make adjustments to the photos more under the psd until it looks right to you
once ive selected and used the psd i wanted, i export it as a png, and this is the result!
i hope this is helpful and not Too confusing, if anybody has any questions let me know and i'll try to help!
#proship#proship selfship#tagging it there so ya'll can see it and make your silly little boards about your silly little ships (affectionate obviously)#kewpies edits#tutorial

Rewatching your animations and animatics is certainly inspiring. It's making me wnat to make my one stuff. But I must ask, what is your general animation process?
you sent this so long ago and i completely forgot to answer it im so sorry!!!
uhh my animation 'process' is actually a nightmare fueled by me working on random pieces that i get inspiration for in random orders hours and then dropping them and ignoring projects for weeks or months at a time. if you want actual specifics, though, i use clip studio paint for animation and stills and export those to adobe premiere to edit the videos as a whole! (probably going to have to find another vid program eventually because my college gives us access to the adobe suite and i really don't want to pay that subscription, though)
(also have used photoshop and autodesk paint for animating in the past both of which suck in their own special ways. autodesk does have a “flipbook” type style which was helpful to start animating on though, i just don’t like other parts of the program. clip studio ive found is the best program once you get over the extremely non-intuitive format and finally watch a how-to video, as i refused to do for a while)
for animatics specifically i often use not a whole lot of actual frame-by-frame animating, and often use more storyboard style still frames that i cut in premiere to get timing right- but as ive gotten better at animating i find i do this less and use more frames. this... obviously takes longer though
usually for animatics i fluctuate anywhere between 6-12fps, most often settling on 8 even though this is NOT the standard and im going to have to reteach myself a lot of timing stuff probably when i go back to 12. in my defense animating a bunch of long stuff by yourself is hard though and the cheap clip studio only lets you animate 2 seconds at a time. which is. ugh.
ummm oh also i often do really quick thumbnails in my sketchbook with the general expression/lyric or audio/pose and angle layed out so i have a reference point. it's very important to give yourself a little map to follow especially if you leave a project unfinished for months and forget everything you were going to do with it.
as for the animating itself lots of timing stuff i end up re-doing once or twice to make sure it fits the audio or music im timing it to (which i do a lot while im also teaching myself), and then go in and clean it up (or,, not, i probably should clean things up more than i do, though)
honestly animatics mostly was me jumping from doing comics to doing comics with audio, and then gradually working in animation skills as i figured them out lmao. (and taking an animation class, but i didn't start that way and neither do a Lot of animators)
OH! and learning about film was actually really really helpful for me in starting animatics- knowing about shots, timing, film theory stuff- and of course scott mccloud's making comics is a graphic novel ill never stop heralding.
i have no idea if this helps but i tried to cover as much as i could!!
#if you have any other questions i promise i will answer it WAY faster this time#animation#animating#animatic#animatics#text#answered ask#also for context i animated the whole elias is not evil in autodesk i believe#my colored animations for class were all done in photoshop#and my magnus animatics after the elias one im p sure were all clip studio#i did not really have anyone tell me how to do any of it at first which made my life so much harder so i hope this can help

into the wind | c.h.
Based on the prompts “can’t you stay a little longer” and “I’ve waited for this moment for a long time”. Calum takes you on a drive away from the record shop and bakery. Star gazing and soft music highlight a night in which you both wish time wouldn’t have to move so fast.

<< >>
Calum’s car is becoming more and more familiar. The faux leather seats are cool against your skin and the air freshener clipped to the vent pours out artificial sweetness; something akin to vanilla. You relax into the seat and buckle in, you have no clue where you’re headed but trust Calum as he settles behind the wheel. He’s brought you home multiple times now, the drives are always quick but time stands still to finish songs parked along the curb. This time you’re headed somewhere new; destination unknown and heart hammering with excitement at the prospect of being with Calum outside of the usual fray—somewhere other than the confines of his record shop or the bakery.
He puts the key in the ignition and the engine stalls for a moment, you catch the quick blush that reddens his cheeks and look the other way, pretending to be preoccupied with something on the sidewalk. In just a moment the engine hums normally and he’s peeling out of the parking spot, headed for somewhere new with the windows rolled down and the wind a welcome guest.
The music comes on as soon as the car starts and a cassette whirs in the player; an old song you don’t know sounds between you. Calum is lost in the drive and the music and your eyes never leave him. His gaze is on the road and he has a grip on the steering wheel with one hand while the other lays palm up on the middle console. A fleeting thought of it being strategically placed for you crosses your mind and you warm at it but you shake yourself and write it off. Your nose scrunches up as your cheeks heat up and you bite your lip as he takes a quick glance at you. Your eyes avert away from his and land on the road.
“The music okay?” He asks and you nearly jump at the sound of his voice.
“It’s good,” you answer with a smile and let the music take over once more as you both lapse into silence.
You can’t help but sneak more glances at him as you drive through familiar streets. Buildings have always dominated the area, some smaller than others , some older and with more character. The town isn’t small but it is a far cry from a city. Buildings pass in a haze and as you catch another glimpse of Calum from the corner of your eye you find you can’t look away or bite back the smile on your face. He darts a quick look at you.
“What?” He asks; voice low and shy and sparking with nervous energy that crackles like lightning you once ran from—and found refuge from in his record shop.
“Nothing—it’s just—well, you were mouthing the lyrics,” you explain and feel your heart race when he blushes again.
“Oh,” he squeaks out and bites his lip. “Sorry.”
“No, no!” You’re quick to defend and deny whatever bashful or regret filled feelings he might be harboring from your observation. In a brash and bold movement you reach for his still open hand; thankful he hadn’t pulled away. “It was cute.”
He grins again and you wonder if it’s for the touch or the compliment. His fingers press into your hold as he gives you a light squeeze and makes a familiar turn. Trees begin to dot the area, fresh air makes way through the windows and the night brings you a bit further away from the usual rush.
“It’s a habit,” Calum explains. “We always have music playing at the shop. If Ashton’s not in my ear I guess I’m singing along.”
You think back to times you were able to sneak glances through the bay window in the bakery and to the register at the record shop. You recall times when Calum was alone but it seemed like he was speaking to someone—you often thought he might be on a call or taking mental inventory and talking to himself like you were apt to do in the kitchen. Now it makes sense. He was singing along to music that poured through the store. You’d only been in a few times and had a small gauge on what songs he might have been lost in. It makes you warm and wonderous. Lost in an attempt to try to put pieces of him together.
“Do you actually sing?” You wonder aloud, his phrasing of the admission leaving you wanting to know more.
He shrugs and humility dances across his face in red cheeks and a twitching nose. You find it endearing and intriguing. His confidence to sing in the record shop or the car contrasts so brightly against the humbleness of his response. You decide not to push the question any further and instead enjoy the feeling of his hand holding yours.
He makes one last turn and the town park shines in the distance from the headlights. In a moment the car is parked and Calum’s turning to face you with his free hand undoing his seatbelt. Your eyes squint as you try to figure out what’s happening. He doesn’t let go of your hand but his eyebrows raise at your inquisition and you feel your heart flutter. You glance at the park past the rope fence tied off; declaring it’s closed.
“Don’t tell me we’re breaking into the park after hours?” You ask and Calum grins but shakes his head no. You tilt your head and await an explanation.
“It’s the only place in town that doesn’t have a brick wall for a view,” he explains and reaches for his door handle which prompts you to do the same though it means losing contact with his hand.
The loss is cold and so is the night but it’s an enjoyable bite of chills that dance in the breeze as you get out and round the car to meet him at the hood. He taps the car invitingly and eases himself up to sit with plenty of room for you by his side. He offers you his hand again and helps you up; minimal distance separates you now, only the wind able to come between you. His gaze is lost to the lush green of the park and eventually tilts up to the sky that shows more of the stars than anywhere else in town. The night is clear and half a moon stares down at both of you, a sliver of moonlight sharpens his jawline and glints off his dark eyes. Music still plays from the car and for a moment everything is curtained in moonlit bliss and a soundtrack reminiscent of easy love stories.
You don’t know how much time has passed or how many songs have played when Calum inches a bit closer. You’ve been caught in conversation that feels entirely too easy and natural. Shy demeanors and walls come crumbling down when privacy and the calm of the night blankets you both. It’s different than in the record shop, it’s less awkward and rushed than in the bakery. You talk about anything but the record shop and bakery; trying to get to know different sides of each other. Everything is easy and subtle. The weight of his arm finding its way around your shoulders doesn’t feel heavy in the slightest, it’s weightless like the air and fully embracing like a summer breeze. You’re smiling as you lean into him and then you’re fully grinning and laughing as he guides you both back to lay atop the hood and find the stars with careful gazes.
You know it’s getting late but time nearly feels irrelevant when you shift and timidly rest your head against his chest. He welcomes it with an inviting arm holding you a bit tighter and a content sigh falling from his lips that cuts off a story about his dog mid sentence. You hear the way his heart skips a beat and picks back up a bit faster. You warm and he picks up talking again; filling the night with the rest of a story about how he adopted Duke. When the story ends and you lapse into a comfortable lull it’s your turn to sigh.
“It’s getting late,” you realize once more and wish time wouldn’t have to move so fast; wish it could pause like you both did to hear the end of songs at the end of your driveway.
“We should get going,” he replies but his tone harbors on a question that instills an opposing thought in your mind.
“Could we stay? Just a while longer?” You ask timidly, slowly sitting up and leaning on an elbow to meet his stare. “It’s really nice to be away from the rush of things.”
Calum nods and maneuvers to mimic your position. You’re now eye to eye and the rest of the world bleeds away in faded moonlight and distant thumps of music. It’s all replaced by the slight pout of his lips and the gleam catching dark brown as he inches closer. Everything but his hand reaching up to lightly trace your jaw fades away. He leans in and you do too; it’s a whirlwind of a paused moment when lips meet and breath is stolen. Time seemingly doesn’t move as fast when he gently caresses your face as he pulls away in a slow manner.
“Feels like I’ve been waiting to do that for a long time,” he admits and you silently agree; all those days turned to weeks catching glances through the windows and late night drives home adding up to a time that seems much too long to have gone without a kiss.
You lean forward and into the wind again, chasing another kiss and blissful moment created by a whirlwind of stalled time.

Thank you!! Im the sex anon and that answer is pretty great. I have so many questions, and maybe I'll hit you up later? It's weird because fandoms sometimes have very liberal views on sex (write what you want its only fiction), but then they can also get very puritan and moral and black and white. I find it very American, I don't know why. And also there's this idea that positive representation seems to be the only important function of media for tumblr fandoms sometimes... (pt. 1
But the I also think (and its something I wanted to ask you about too), that the way skam and now this film are using social media (+ tumblr dynamics) generate a lot of anxiety in fans. Series have used social media in my country, but not integrated in the same way as skam and this film, where they almost blurr the lines between fiction and real life. Specially having an actor like Tarjei, who doesn’t have social media, and has changed a lot physically for his role. And his friends being part of
The film… It’s almost as if he has become his new character, and fans (a lot of whom are very young) feel affronted by that. It’s all very interesting. Has this use of social media become a regular thing in Norway? How is it perceived by people who follow skam there? Do they find it weird that the director is using the same dynamics? I’m sorry this got so long and I got so carried on! I honestly just wanted to say thank you, but I find all of this so interesting! You don’t have to answer
By all means talk to me whenever you want!
I’m glad my answer wasn’t completely off the mark for you, but of course, we could talk about this for years and not exhaust the subject. Speaking of exhausting the subject, I have to cut the text again…
I’ve noted that the SKAM fandom, at least the parts of it I see, definitely has a moralistic streak, which I too find very American in its b/w thinking, and I think you have an extremely good point in that the use of social media generates anxiety and blurred lines. It certainly looks like it escalates the investment in a show significantly (and that’s saying something…), and that means that you get more possessive about the characters and your headcanons, I think (re: the great bottom Even debacle, which for all I know is still going on).
Also this is a young fandom, almost two years in Norway and not even a year internationally. Fandoms tend to grow more laidback as time goes by and the fans get used to ridiculousness, kink exploration, changing trope and topic trends and the usual General Eternal Fandom-specific Bickering.
En affære isn’t integrating social media like that, for obvious reasons - it will be shown in cinemas with a smallish number of viewers at each showing, not with real time social media inserts between clips and episodes, so that’s impossible. Perhaps they will use the social media accounts for promotion? The existence of these accounts to be used in the film certainly fired up the fandom, though.
I believe those of Tarjei’s friends who are in it are also aspiring actors, at least some are drama students too, I think, and to be fair there’s literally only a handful of eager Tarjei fans who even catch that other actors in the film are friends with him. I imagine there will be news articles about that when the film is released, but very very few Norwegians will have followed his friends on social media or know much about his personal life.
Fandom is so small, really. And out of all of the fans taking an interest in what Tarjei does as an actor, not all that many care all that much about his personal life. However, young fans often do, and young fans aren’t really who this fillm is intended for, I should think. Most of the film’s potential audience doesn’t even know about the social media accounts until it’s shown in cinemas.
I know - and know of - a lot of Norwegian SKAM fans who simply aren’t in fandom as such. They lived and breathed SKAM from S1 or S2 or S3, they’ve discussed it a lot and quote the lines and attended SKAM events, and they think many of the actors are great and are excited to see what they do next, but they don’t use their Twitter accounts for fandom stuff, they don’t have Tumblr accounts, they don’t read or write fics. They sometimes stumble upon gifs and fanvids they like, but they don’t go looking in the tags anywhere.
And these fans, who also are really enthusiastic fans of a great show and great actors, simply don’t give a fuck about the personal lives of the actors. They don’t know that some international fans think that Tarjei doing an erotic thriller and his friends being in it is off-putting. This is the vast majority of Norwegian fans.
Most fandoms so easily get upset about literally anything, really. Also, as we all know, it’s very easy to confuse an actor with the characters they play, which certainly has happened with Tarjei/Isak and the other SKAM actors/characters. I think it’s great that he chooses very different projects, like What would Jesus do?, Woman2Woman, En affære and Grease. Perhaps it helps that he’s allegedly started to grow his hair back and is gearing up for the mostly harmless Grease production.
I like that he wants challenging work, and to be honest, I find it strange to claim to be a fan and not appreciate that he wishes to learn and grow as an actor. It’s like some wants to trap Tarjei-as-Isak in amber*, you know? But SKAM is over and Isak is over. Enter Markus and Doody and who knows what’s to come.
Social media in TV shows haven’t really been used before, no. Posting clips in real time has (in four NRK shows, I think), but not interspersed with chat logs and Insta posts. The format was acclaimed as innovative and exciting, and initially it was what drew me to the show, actually.
Btw there was a lot of representation wishes and complaints in Norway too. During season 3 it started to seem like unless Julie made the season 4 main a bisexual, wheelchair bound, transgendered, politically active, dyslexic refugee she would be the Worst Person On The Planet. Oh well.
Don’t say sorry, dear sex anon, this is super interesting and I could go on ALL DAY. Also sorry if I come across as super world weary. Maybe I am, a bit.
*shout-out to the friend who used those exact words
