since people apparently cant be formal im going to be: we dont use "q!" cuz people kinda dont want to talk abt the server, only spiderbit/guapoduo, so they decided to use "g!" or only "!", and when people are refering to other series they use the first letter of the series for example: "c!roier", i myself dont quite get the g!/! and understand why u dont like people not using "q!" when the universe they talking abt is qsmp
(people saw u complaining abt it here and start to shit on u without any context on twt and saying u complained that q wanst appearing in other fics even tho im pretty sure i didnt when ur distancing urself from him so i wanted to be formal :])
-🎀
(also can u explain y u dont like the "g!" or "!"???)
I can try to explain myself, but I'm also kinda crying answering this because I have a hard time with emotion regulation when I'm upset (autism thing)
OKAY! SO!
I don't really mind the new tag things? Like, I don't love them, but they're fine. If people want to distance themselves, that's fine. I'm distancing myself. Anybody who's been keeping up with my blog over the past half a year or so can see that I haven't really posted about the QSMP at all since Purgatory started. I haven't talked about Quackity at all outside of that shitshow of an awards ceremony in over a month when, for several years, I was a Quackity-centric blog (2021-early 2023)
My thing with the new tags, and with the Guapoverse thing in general, is that it really just isn't accessible for a larger audience. Sure, some parts of Twitter might understand it, but what about the rest of us?
As far as I can tell, the Guapoverse originated with a Twitter artist (Moone), and it blew up overnight. And I'm overall cool with it! It's a little silly, but so is fandom. I'm a fanfiction writer. Who plays Splatoon for like 4 hours every day. I know silly, and I love it
But then, BAM, I blink and everybody's abandoned the q! and they're changing their tags on Ao3 and making everything suddenly so much harder to find, and it's all about accessibility, isn't it? Like, don't get me wrong, I love a good multiverse, but when it inadvertently excludes a significant portion of the fandom, what are we supposed to do?
Like, say I go on Twitter looking for q!Pac fanart. But now it's so much harder to find because it isn't tagged or typed that way, it's !Pac, and that includes search results from every single au that has a ! in it, like if there was an au called AU!Pac? The !Pac would be in there. But I don't want to see AU!Pac, I want to see q!Pac.
And then there's the g! thingy. Like, that's fine, but a little more widespread of an explanation would've been nice. Like, what au does g! stand for? If you don't know what Guapoverse is, like A LOT OF PEOPLE don't, what are we supposed to think your art is? If we're looking for q!Cellbit art, we aren't necessarily going to like and retweet your art if it's labeled as g!Cellbit because we don't know that he's q!Cellbit.
It's kind of similar on Ao3, only that one's a little different because you can filter by relationship. But let's say you don't know how to do that. Let's say you're new to the website and you only know how to filter by fandom, because that's the first thing you learn how to do on Ao3- it's right there at the top of the front page: Browse By Fandom.
So you go to the QSMP tag looking for fics with Spiderbit/Guapoduo in them. But, here's the thing, you can't find any. Because they aren't being tagged QSMP, they're being tagged Guapoverse now even if the fics are being set in the QSMP setting.
It's just a general lack of fandom accessibility that gets me. I understand the distancing aspect, and I've been waiting for it to happen since the Elections when he Brazilian fandom started getting IMMENSE amounts of hatred from Gringo Chats. But it gets a little tricky when you're part of a fandom as large as this one is. How are we all supposed to share content and talk about things with each other if we can't even find each other anymore?
Like! I've lost so many cool fics I forgot to bookmark because they were taken out of the QSMP tag and moved into the new one! (The new one goes against ToS btw I believe, but go talk to a tag wrangler about that.)
People on Tumblr don't know what the Guapoverse is. TikTok doesn't. Reddit doesn't. Only Twitter does, and only a section of Twitter does. Because I haven't seen any English or French-speaking Guapoduo People talk about the Guapoverse, only Portuguese or Spanish-speaking people. And I get that the exclusion isn't purposeful and that the Guapoverse is meant to sort of heal everybody from the wounds the QSMP left, but I think that maybe even just spreading the news and not... you know... sending death threats and insults and smearing people's names would be better than this.
Thank you for politely asking. I thought I had made myself clear before, but I guess I hadn't.
I'm open to answer any more questions. I can't explain myself to my critics on Twitter, but I can answer your questions here, hopefully.

More art from my younger sister, yay!
Mask (Baby Hero of Time) looks like that because he's worn the Fierce Deity Mask too many times for extremely long periods, and now it's started to stain/scar his skin.
I'm also putting her little doodle she made me bellow too.
Mask (Baby Hero of Time) has a/his shadow following him around. This is apparently my sister's view of their relationship.
(She was nervous about letting me post the gif and required that I clarified that it's a low effort, quick animation she only made to get a laugh out of me, lol. She was correct about making me laugh. I was in tears for, like, an hour.)
More explanations (And lack there of?) about it under the cut.
These pieces of art are both from an AU of mine that we roleplay a lot.
I'd explain more, but it's built off an alternate timeline/universe of @wutheringmights story "Call them brothers". And I'm not sure what her rules are about fanart or fanfics, mostly because I never asked or looked into it and I never intended to.
I make AUs for the fanfics I read, write fanfics for those fanfics with thousands upon thousands of words in them and then never post them or do anything other than hand them to my sister to read. She does the same with her art.
...Fandoms are messy enough without me accidentally stepping on someone's toes. (I think my sister doesn't post her art because she's too unconfident though.)
That aside, Call them brothers is literally my favorite fic I've ever read. I know we like to throw that phrase around in the fandom a lot, but I have every intention of getting that sucker printed and bound once it's finished. I've been reading Fanfiction for nearly a decade and this is the first one I've wanted to do that for.
If you're a person who enjoys darker stories and want a story line with some actual consequences for the characters, I'd totally recommend it. The last time I was this gut punched over characters and their development was Red Rising by Peirce Brown (My favorite published book series ever), and Wuthering's descriptions of a war ravaged country and all it's horrors is fucking immaculate.
I found Call them brothers through my desire to see a longer fic that had Spirit Tracks Link, and it did. not. disappoint.
Wuthering's takes on what Spirit's abilities, character traits, and game culture/lore are currently my favorite I've seen from anyone in the fandom, and I would doubly recommend the fic just for that.
That said, it's not a story for the faint of heart. It's Dark. With a capital 'd' for a reason. Wuthering doesn't add all those tag warnings for no reason. Also, if you can't stand to see one of the Link bois written as anything other than what the mainstream interpretation for them is, this isn't for you. War isn't out of character, but he's certainly a bold take. A fantastic one, but bold none the less.
Plus there's mild mentions of Links being interested in other character's that aren't their Zeldas or their typical love interests. There is NO shipping of the Jojo's characters amongst each other, but if you're the kind of person who can't stand alluding to characters having crushes that aren't Link x Zelda, it isn't for you.
I know there's some people in the fandom who don't like that kind of thing, so I thought I'd mention it. Also, you've been warned so no being mean to Wutheringmights about it!
If you're okay with the things I've listed, please, please, please give it a read. @wutheringmights deserves all the love for writing something so good.
(Anyway, I could ramble for hours about all the reasons Wutheringmights is my favorite Author in the LOZ fandom, but this was supposed to just be a post about my lil sis's art that got waaaaay away from me.)
#My sister's art#Little alliance Art#time linked universe#majora's mask link#loz link#time lu#linked universe time#It's only Lu because it's an AU of a LU Fic but the character concept all on it's own isn't???#So I'm tagging both#Sorry if that's confusing

Hey Days!!!
This might sound like a stupid ask, but is the AO3 app legit? I feel like it would be easier if we can view everything in an app 😄
Hello! Not a stupid question. This topic has brought up a ton of discussion across fandoms, and so I’ll summarize what I’ve seen (mostly from following ao3commentoftheday’s tumblr blog).
There will likely never be an official ao3 app because
1. Too much manpower is required to create, maintain, and then continually do app updates, like whenever phones update to a new version. And since Ao3 is completely volunteer-driven, they probably don't have the manpower to spare on an app. They'd rather use their manpower to keep the regular website running for all of their millions of users.
2. Apple has policies about adult content, and fanfiction is full of spicy, problematic, and disturbing content. Ao3 would never delete or censor people's stories just to have an app available on Apple. Apple would never allow Ao3 as it is currently.
3. Businesses push for people to download their apps because they can force advertisements on their viewers, and viewers can't block the ads if they're on the app. So they can make money. Ao3 doesn't even have ads in the first place because everything is run through donations. There would be 0 gain for Ao3 and only a waste of manpower.
4. Ao3 is already reader-friendly on the phone from the website. They already put a lot of effort into the current website, so an app wouldn't add anything.
From what I've seen, here's a summary of reasons to NOT use an unofficial Ao3 app:
You would be giving your login information to a third party.
You have to pay to download some of these unofficial apps to cover the labor costs for the people who created the app.
Because fanfic writers upload their stories for free online, some feel that it's unfair profit for the app creators. I don't personally feel that way, though I understand that viewpoint. It's something to take into consideration.
Alternatives that other tumblr users have suggested instead of using an app:
Add a different mobile browser dedicated to opening fanfiction.
Download fics from Ao3 you enjoy as e-readers and adding them to the Kindle app so you can read them whenever you want. All Ao3 writers automatically consent to having their fics downloadable when they post on Ao3.
On Apple devices, apparently you can bookmark a Safari page onto your phone's home screen.
On Chrome, apparently you can do the same thing. Go to the three dots from the page you want to save, choose the Add to Home screen option, and then you'll have an icon shortcut.
Bookmark your main Ao3 search tags on your browser.
If you just want things to be "easier" and you're wishing for certain features, you can try out the publicly available site skins, like Reversi (for dark mode) or this one for dyslexia. Here are the Ao3 Instructions on using skins. Others use site skins to block certain users or hide fic stats (like views and kudos counts). That blog I follow Ao3cotd made a bunch of cute ones, like I use their pink one, or there's this pretty firefly one, art deco one, dark galaxy theme, pink and green frog theme, and this peach theme they made. They deleted their code for the pink one , but since I'm using it, I still have the code on my account, so lmk if you want it.
That was probably a longer answer than you needed, but I hope it helps!

Wangxian Top Ten Fic Recs
So. I got into MDZS/The Untamed back in February, & I've sort of fallen into a Wangxian black hole from which I am not sure I will ever emerge. Thusly, I've been reading a ton of Wangxian fanfiction lately & have acquired quite a few favorites. Naturally I had to eventually compile a rec list lest I combust with all the barely suppressed love I have for this ship.
Now you lucky people get to reap the benefits of all my hard work because not only have I ranked my top ten, I am also including a bunch of honorable mentions because I'm ridiculous & have no self restraint because I'm such a kind & generous person. Note that the honorable mentions are not ranked & are listed in no particular order.
Fair warning, all of these recs are rated Explicit because I enjoy either a sprinkling or a flood of adult content with my fics. It's far from the focus of many of them, but it's there to varying degrees in each. Also, some of these fics cover some heavy content that may be triggering for some folks, so please do mind the tags & any authors' notes for your own peace of mind.
And with no further adieu, onto the recs!
1. Scars Where They Used to Be by CwythanWind (E, 58,467)
Thoughts: I lost count of how many times I cried in this fic. It was gorgeous in every sense of the word. The characterizations were phenomenal. Wei Ying’s pain was palpable, & the pining was agonizing. Lan Zhan conveying his love through poetry made me sob like a baby twice. The prose was just that beautiful. I can’t recommend this enough. As soon as I finished it I knew it was going to become my favorite Wangxian fic, & nothing has managed to top it yet.
2. Beneath Your Skin by Wrenwolf (E, 147,201)
Thoughts: I was sold on tattoo artist Wei Ying from the word go, haha, but Lan Zhan as an antiques dealer was also surprisingly on point. I go on about characterization a lot in these recs, but I have to tell you that Lan Zhan's here is one of my absolute favorites. I felt like I'd crawled into his skin & was just living there right along with him. And don't get me started on Wei Ying in this fic. I just.. fuck, I cried so much, y'all, & it was incredibly cathartic. Nie Huaisang was my favorite side character in this, & they were an absolute BAMF! You can't go wrong with this one. It's just stunning.
3. Pentimento. by orange_crushed (E, 72,966)
Thoughts: This fic was full of sentiment: regrets, longing, & so, so nostalgic. The love of art was apparent & beautifully on display here, & it added a richness to the whole thing. I cried several times during this from the empathy I had for both Lan Zhan's & Wei Ying's experiences (can you sense a theme with my favorites making me overly emotional? lol). The tone got heavy in places, but it didn't feel graphic or overwhelming at any point for me. The writing was just fantastic, & I've enjoyed a few more of the author's fics since I read this one.
4. i'm gonna drown when you wake up by teenjiism (E, 51,752)
Thoughts: I related to this fic on several levels because both characters are portrayed as neurodivergent in ways that felt very authentic, & I rarely see it done as well as it was here. I have ADHD, & Wei Ying's headspace felt extremely familiar, ha. Lan Zhan & Wei Ying's friendship was so lovely here, too. I adored their easy intimacy & how they were each other's favorite person before Wei Ying even realized he was in love with Lan Zhan. Oh yes, this is another fantastic oblivious Wei Ying/One Brain Cell WWX Strikes Again fic. The pining was perfect, & the overall sweetness of their relationship made this a very floaty/happy reading experience for me, personally.
5. Nothing But Trouble by brooklinegirl (E, 60,318)
Thoughts: Continuing with the theme of One Brain Cell WWX Strikes Again, this was a hilarious & heady fake dating scenario fic. His cluelessness reached new heights in this one, & I about died when he came up with the idea that naturally he & Lan Zhan should practice things like kissing for authenticity's sake. (Oh Wei Ying, you sweet summer child... he kills me; can you tell?) I loved how matter-of-fact Lan Zhan was about the whole thing, too. I laughed a lot during this fic. I even blushed a couple of times, too! Highly enjoyable & a must-read for me.
6. you've ruined my life (by not being mine) by cicer (E, 132,713)
Thoughts: None of the parents in this fic are doing a good job, but hey, they didn't in canon either, in my not-so-humble opinion. It's not what I focused on in the fic, but the tags certainly amused me. I haven't come across many texting fics in MDZS, so this was a pleasant & welcome surprise. The whole fic wasn't done through texting, but their text exchanges were SO CUTE. Lan Zhan texted exactly how I thought he would in this, & it made me laugh every time. The pining was lovely, & when they finally got to see each other in person again in New York I was glued to my computer until I finished the fic. I adored the tone of this one. It was great & just a really fun read.
7. and so my heart beats wildly by lily_winterwood (E, 106,435)
Thoughts: This was one of the most original modern AUs I've seen & featured competitive cultivation that had a Hunger Games meets professional figure-skating competition vibe. It was wild, but it made sense when I read it, I promise. The author was very good at fleshing out their world, & I was fascinated by the concept. Wei Ying once again failed to notice Lan Zhan was in love with him, & his confusion over their interactions never failed to entertain me. I never get tired of their dynamic, y'all, & it was just perfect here. I highly recommend this one.
8. Falling to the Rhythm by Selenay (E, 128,916)
Thoughts: Ever seen So You Think You Can Dance or Strictly Come Dancing? This was basically that but Wangxian! Wei Ying was stunning as a professional dancer being handed a socially awkward, concert violinist Lan Zhan & having to teach him to dance in front of the nation for 12 weeks, & I absolutely loved Lhan Zhan in this. He was precious. The sexual tension during some of the dances was electrifying, & watching them fall in love over the course of the filming of the show was a delight to read.
9. Two Dollar Coffee by marizousbooty (E, 145,286)
Thoughts: I almost fell out of my chair laughing because how do you acquire an accidental sugar daddy?! Well, if you read this fic, you'll find out. One Brain Cell WWX Strikes Again! Yeah, it's one of my favorite AO3 tags, so sue me, lol. The sex was obviously one of the highlights, which I am known to enjoy in a fic (don't judge me, Puritans), but it certainly wasn't the only thing that was well written here. I loved everything about this from beginning to end.
10. things that make it warm by yabakuboi (E, 33,327)
Thoughts: This fic hurt my feelings, not gonna lie. I cried ugly tears at the break up, but I've always had a hard time with reconciliation fics. It was very worth it, however. The way the fic covered their relationship growing & changing over time was very compelling, & a highlight of this for me was Wei Ying's relationship with the Wens, particularly A'Yuan. It was very sweet amongst an ocean of angst, haha. I read this in the span of a couple hours. Just couldn't be torn away. If you're a sucker for angst with a happy ending, then you might want to check this one out.
Honorable Mentions
The Simplest Way Forward by harriet_vane (E, 70,972)
Thoughts: This was so heartwarming I couldn't stop smiling over how adorable it was. Kid fics aren't typically a favorite of mine, but I do enjoy a really good one every now & then. This was one of the best I've read, to be honest. A'Yuan was the sweetest little angel, & he was so cute with Wei Ying spazzing out about every aspect of his care. Lan Zhan being the quiet, responsible source of reason & support was expected but of course always a welcome addition to the mix. Accidental Baby Acquisition isn't a tag I'd seen before, but it's a new favorite when it comes to Wangxian getting to be surprise parents together, haha.
undone (the spreadsheet song) series by spookykingdomstarlight (E, 282,452)
Thoughts: This is a two part series that tells the same story from each love interest’s point of view, a la Rivals by Reiya in the YoI fandom, which is one of my favorites of all time. Similarly, this story is also phenomenally written. I was sucked in immediately & read both fics over the span of like 3 days. I actually read Lan Zhan’s POV fic (the second in the series) in a single day. I was spellbound by the whole thing, couldn’t get enough. I highly recommend this. The characterizations are incredible, & the emotions are so intense I couldn’t help but feel everything right along with each of them as the story progressed.
My only word of caution is that if you have a hard time reading about Wangxian being intimate with people other than each other you might want to skim/skip those sections of the second fic like I had to. The author makes it fairly easy by giving a heads up in the author’s notes at the beginning of each chapter in which that occurs, which I very much appreciated.
Many happy returns. by orange_crushed (E, 25,470)
Thoughts: This fic started with a very serendipitous first meeting between businessman Lan Zhan & Wei Ying, who he mistook for the (non-sexual) escort he'd hired for the evening. I nearly died of mortification right along with poor Lan Zhan when he figured out his mistake. Him confessing this to Wei Ying was painfully awkward & hurt my heart, but fear not! We all know I can't handle a fic without an eventual happy ending, haha. Watching their instant connection develop into something more was such a treat. I loved this fic quite a lot for it being a quicker read for me.
Multiphonics by androkastia (E, 63,705)
Thoughts: Wei Ying was such a lovable disaster in this (as he often is, bless him). Him & Lan Zhan both being in the orchestra was a fun idea, & I loved the author's choice of the harp for Lan Zhan's instrument. I thought it was very different from the usual violin or cello choice I've seen previously but still suited him perfectly. I also loved his overall characterization, down to his fashion sense being tastefully eclectic when his style is usually portrayed as very stuffy & conservative. I really enjoyed this college/university AU, & I've read quite a few of them at this point. So obviously this one stood out.
No Compasses, No Signs by brooklinegirl (E, 36,041)
Thoughts: Ah, finally! A soulmate fic. A Temnurus rec list really wouldn't be complete without at least one. This was a modern AU, which made it especially fun when their soul bond inexplicably manifested as they literally collided with each other on the sidewalk. It was painful watching them fumble for answers to why they suddenly knew things about each other they had no way of knowing only moments before, but the sweet conclusion made it more than worth the temporary angst.
A Haunting Love by Selenay (E, 64,621)
Thoughts: This was another very unique modern with magic AU, & I was nervous because Wei Ying was a ghost haunting Lan Zhan's new house in the quiet little town he moved to in order to write his next novel. Naturally Lan Zhan became ensnared by the mystery surrounding Wei Ying's departure. This had a very romantic feel to it, intensely poetic in a way that I found very alluring. There were even thriller-esque moments towards the end of the story, so it had a bit of everything, all of it equally satisfying to read.
love, in fire and blood by cicer (E, 360,042)
Thoughts: This was an example of a cool MDZS-specific trope I hadn't seen before, & in it Wei Ying, the infamous Yiling Patriarch, was a cultivator who had achieved immortality (aka, he's OP as fuck but in a fun way). The great sects enlisted his help to win the Sunshot Campaign, & what did he demand in return? Lan Zhan's hand in marriage, of course! It was a fantastic slow burn in which poor Lan Zhan suffered the mortifying ordeal of falling in love with his own husband. An amazing & complex plot, chock-full of angsty goodness.
a place to hide (can't find one near) by yiqie (E, 76,091)
Thoughts: I'm giving y'all a heads up first thing that this fic pulled no punches when it came to the heavier subject matter covered in the tags & author's note. Some of the descriptions were fairly graphic, so please take care of yourselves when considering this one. That said, it was a powerful portrayal of someone suffering from mental health issues & the long & often complicated journey of healing. This one also happened to contain a love story so beautiful that I was brought to tears several times by Lan Zhan's patient & loving care for his most important person, nevermind all the times I cried at the sad parts! I found the emotional cost of those very much worth the payoff of their happy ending, which is why I just had to include this one.
Just You, Just Me (Just Us, Just We) by wincechesters (E, 19,777)
Thoughts: Lan Zhan thought his brother made him an appointment at an acupuncturist & was aghast when he discovered it was for a session with a professional cuddler instead! Enter Wei Ying, gratuitous cuddle therapy, & his usual chaotic charm. Poor Lan Zhan being so overwhelmed while also becoming hopelessly besotted made me laugh, bless his fragile little heart. This was an adorable & light-hearted fic that made me want to go back & reread it almost immediately, haha.
my age has never made me wise by idrilka (E, 63,439)
Thoughts: I absolutely loved this. It was pretty CQL (The Untamed) compliant & told the post-canon story of Wei Ying wandering alone as a rogue cultivator after the events of the show. Of course he was pining after his zhiji the entire time, so when he heard gossip that the Chief Cultivator might be married by summer's end it nearly undid him. The angst was excruciating, but at the same time, One Brain Cell WWX Strikes Again fics somehow always manage to be fun at the same time. I've read several post-canon, wandering Wei Ying stories, & this one was particularly good.

20 Questions for fic writers
Tagged by @dear-massacre
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Twenty-one. Twenty fics and one weird standalone soundtrack, lol.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
195,750.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Just Teen Wolf so far, but I maybe I'll get around to some ideas I have for The Sandman or something else one day.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Thunder (Sterek. 12.1k. Explicit. Depressed loner Derek meets on-the-run Werefox/Kitsune Stiles in rural Montana.)
The Cold Moon (Sterek, 40.6k. Explicit. Part one of a story where Stiles is forced across a mysterious boundary by Hunters and encounters a semi-feral Alpha Derek. My first published fic.)
Second Chance Strays (Sterek, 8.5k. Explicit. Mage Stiles, Derek, & Larem the deer alone in the wilderness. A Fuck or Die situation ensues when a darach attacks.)
CLAIM! (Sterek, 11.9k, Explicit. Misunderstandings and making up after Derek & Stiles meet at Jungle and hook-up.)
Customer Service (Sterek, 10.9k. Explicit. Surly barista omega Derek and human college student Stiles. Banter, vulgar latte art, and heat sex. Dominant Derek, Service Top Stiles.)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! Sometimes it takes a while, but comments are appreciated and I know I like getting responses.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I guess Amīca (Derissa) because it's an unresolved pre-relationship fic that's meant to be the first In a series. I've been a happy ending gal, so no real angsty ones so far. The angst is in the beginning and/or middle!
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
The rest of them? 😂
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I haven't yet. Knocks on wood.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes. Most of my fics have smut at some point, lol. Or belong to series that do/will.
Um, barebacking and creampie/breeding. Cum eating or play and marking in general, including hickeys and biting.
Virgin/first time bottoming, praise kink, light degradation, and knotting are also in a number of stories. Some spanking, bondage and pinning, and generally low-key dominance and submission. Chasing and claiming and a few omegaverse or just self-lubrication. (I have plans for more.)
All M/M or M/M/M so far, but I have WIPs and notes with other combinations. I have a bunch of Kinktober bits from 2022 to turn into fics that I'm both nervous and excited about. And lots of other ideas too.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Not yet, but I have a summary for a Sterek Teen Wolf/The Sandman crossover.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No. Sounds both fun and kinda scary.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
Sterek is what finally got me into fanfiction and the whole shipping fandom thing a few years ago, so I gotta go with them. I enjoy a bunch of others from Teen Wolf too (especially Steter, Stetopher, and Sterek + various people) and from other fandoms.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I currently intend to finish all my WIPs, but who knows what the future will hold. I have 3 posted WIPs that I definitely plan to complete: The Wolf Moon, The Depths, and 15 Shades of Red. I have dozens of unposted ones that I also hope to finish...eventually.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Apparently dialogue, world building, characters' inner thoughts, and being funny sometimes. Coming up with ideas.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Epithets. It's just tricky when the characters have the same pronouns and I hate writing their names over and over. (I don't mind when other people do it though, so 🤷🏽♀️. But then I'll be like, "I can't say Derek three times in this paragraph!")
I've started looking for ones to remove whenever I edit now (and I'm cringing thinking about earlier stories that I should re-edit at some point,) but I still use some and am self-conscious about it.
Also, sometimes I info dump, but that doesn't bother me so much. Boom, here's a bunch of background now let's get on with it, lol.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I've used a few words in Polish here and there in some stories, but I probably wouldn't try to write whole conversations in another language unless I was familiar with it or could ask someone about it.
There's some Patois/Patwah in Irie, which was interesting to write because there's no one set spelling of many words, so it was part looking at common ones and part "What did it sound like/how was it phrased when this relative or family friend said something like this?"
19. First fandom you wrote for?
I vaguely recall thinking up scenes, dialogue, background, etc, for a story with Byakuya Kuchiki/Shūhei Hisagi from Bleach approximately 5 billion years ago when I was a teenager, but I don't remember if I ever actually wrote anything. Definitely didn't finish or publish anything. So...Teen Wolf.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Hmm. I can't say that I have a favorite. I only started actually writing from my list of fic ideas around 16 months ago, IIRC. Maybe if I look back on them all after enough time passes I'll be able to pick one out (though knowing me...still probably not,) but right now they're all just...floating around in my head and also mixed with the particular experiences of writing them, idk.
Here's a recent one that was fun to write:
Legs (Sterek, 4.3k. Explicit. Snark and smut after college students Derek and Werecreature Stiles cross paths at the mall.)
If you want to play along, tag, you're it!

I just wanted to contribute to your recent ask, if that's okay and I will be hiding behind an anonymous face, so apologies in advance but I'm anxious about backlash from others since I'm active in the fandom and I may piss some people off.
I agree with your statements about the incorrect use of nicknames toward whichever partner Wednesday is paired up with, it makes me cringe so much, especially with the 'Cara Mia' because like you, I cannot see Ortega's Wednesday using the same pet names that her parents use. Some people go ridiculously overboard with it, and I really enjoyed your breakdown over the incorrect use of the French pet names. Wednesday despises the sappy love between her parents, I highly doubt she would mimic that.
I've seen your posts pop up occasionally, I like some of the art you share, and I did try reading your story out of curiosity. But it did make me uncomfortable with the underage stuff due to past experiences, and that is okay for me to admit and doesn't mean you're a bad person for writing it. It's a fanfiction ffs, the same people upset about your pairing are probably having wet dreams over Wednesday murdering people or some other illegal shit 🤷♀️
I have respect for you as a person and writer, and how you've brought awareness to the transphobic nature of some fics, we don't need that in this fandom.
Nothing better to offset anon hate than anon respect. 💖✨
It's always okay to drop anything in my inbox if you're afraid of backlash due to popular shipping, but "YOU PERVERT, IT'S R#PE!!!" judgement should not be faceless. 🥹
It's also always okay to give reason to why any fic or pairing is something you avoid due to trauma, and you shouldn't have to say that aloud. At least, you don't to me. I sincerely hope that my post didn't come across as "U MUST READ MY SHIT NO MATTER WHAT BEFORE YOU JUDGE IT" to those (like you) who have terrible trauma surrounding the subject/content. If you have such trauma, then my tags should've been a warning, and I completely understand why you would not want to read it.
Hm, I'm also agreeing w the whole subject matter in general thing. I've seen a few fics where Wednesday is r#ped and/or tortured (usually by Tyler or Gatesmonster), but apparently others do, so whatever. 🤷🏽♂️ I can't impose on others my severe judgement on what gets others off (in terms of fiction and fictional characters), I can only say that Wednesday suffers enough mentally on a daily basis that I hate adding to that, or seeing it. N/C Wednesday is still precious to me, no matter how tempting it can be to smack her around a bit/knock her off her high horse (I was pleased though, when in canon she got her brow nicked...she hadn't had any reason to attack Bianca before then, aside from her calling her a psychopath (as if not everyone in the school already thought she was)...she was being a narc little asshole during the fencing scene).
As for the rest of it, I really didn't say anywhere that Wednesday shouldn't come up with any cute pet names for Enid, even suggesting that she could be creative enough to make her own compound words like "my little lupinette" (to me, something like that would make her bond with Enid much more tailored to whatever Enid brought out within her while distancing herself from becoming Mommie Dearest enough). Borrowing directly from them just... 💀 AB Wednesday is currently even more formal and uptight than any Wenclair Wends but is slowly learning, and in one upcoming scene she calls Donovan "Jim". My readers will see why (🤣🤣🤣).
Aside from crafting this Satisfying Universe, I had to sit and watch malignant psychopaths destroy the hopes and dreams of my fellow 🏳️⚧️ people in Tennessee, Florida, Texas, Missouri, etc. this spring and throughout the summer, so I'm especially peeved when I see anything that could be construed as trans exclusionary in here. I lost the Potter fandom to it in 2020 when JKR came out full TERF, even though we all kind of suspected it before. We never, ever had "Draco Malfoy x AFAB reader" or "Hermione Granger x AMAB reader" labeled fics. We didn't care what you were born with, genital-wise. Fiction is and will forever be an escape, so let's try to keep it that way. 🫠✨
Anyway, thanks for the message. I'm only sad that you feel like you need to hide, or that anyone feels like they need to hide. I understand it though.

re: your tags on the post defending people being dramatique about reblogs; whoever ghosted you over that is a dick, but also there has GOT to be a happy medium between "fuck you if you don't reblog everything you feel positively about" and "fuck you for asking for reblogs" like omg, tumblrinas plz, i am begging for like half an ounce of nuance i know this is the internet but please for the love of the blorbos stop the madness *headdesk*
I mean, yeah, I don't actually think guilt/shame is a good motivation for engaging with fandom, for a lot of different reasons, and tbh the overall tone of the post I just reblogged is probably more abrasive or something than what I've reblogged before or said myself. I mostly just reblogged this one because apparently I can't get over how hurt I feel over the whole basically-being-ghosted-by-a-long-term-friend thing (especially given that it made me feel really insane in a specifically neurodivergent way, like, "either I have massively misinterpreted literally everything about this relationship for years because I fundamentally don't understand friendship or social interactions in general, or you didn't mean anything you said to me, or you changed the rules at some point and didn't tell me").
but it's also just...deeply frustrating that even the mildest posts saying "if you don't do some very basic things to support the fanworks you like, you will start seeing a lot less of those fanworks, because those creators will get discouraged and stop producing it" gets categorized as whining or guilt-tripping when it isn't, it's literally just describing cause and effect. there are other posts scolding fan creators for expressing that discouragement or asking for a little damn engagement because we just want to feel like we're part of a community, all of which just contributes to the atmosphere of discouragement.
and it feels increasingly bizarre to me the more time I spend on Instagram, following all kinds of artists and small businesses, all of whom talk a lot about how important engagement is to what they do and how much their work lives and dies by The Algorithm and how crucial it is for people to take a few seconds and boost stuff they like because otherwise it just gets lost to the void, and I don't see the same backlash there of "well you should just be satisfied with creating for yourself, you shouldn't worry about stats, stop whining for attention, stop guilt-tripping people," whatever. granted, it's a different matter when there's money involved, because with a small business whose only source of advertising is social media, we're talking about someone's actual livelihood, but there's a huge amount of crossover with literally any artist--fanartist or otherwise--given that loads of them do also have Patreons or Ko-fi links or shops with physical items, or maybe they don't start out that way but when they build an audience organically they're able to bring in some actual money. and I've definitely seen people who aren't primarily selling things, who really are just producing art as a hobby, but still ask people to share their stuff because it encourages them to make more, and that seems to be seen as perfectly legitimate, except on Tumblr and also Reddit. fanfic is a little different because it's inherently an extremely bad idea to monetize, so there isn't the angle of "of course you want to share this so your favorite writer can keep food on the table!" but it doesn't seem like a huge stretch to say it follows a similar principle, right? if you like it, it just makes sense to support it in some small way, because then you're more likely to keep getting it? and if you don't make any effort to support it, then you can't complain when you stop getting it? (making this very basic point got me downvoted on r/Fanfiction because of course it did.)
and, I don't know, I personally get really discouraged begging for reblogs, and it would feel a lot better if I didn't have to. not even just my own fic (although, yes, especially that), but original posts about helpful resources or awesome Kickstarters or fic recs or cool free games or "hey this artist is doing charity commissions, look at their awesome art, please reblog so they can raise money for this important cause" mostly just all kinda fall into the void. not that I'm at all unique in that respect, obviously; anyone who doesn't have a big audience deals with that frustration (while people who do have big audiences get to deal with different problems, as I understand it, although I certainly wouldn't know from experience). it just sucks, you know?

I think Dana explained the betas though, it was the characters in a much different, heavier and darker story, that probably would have leaned more into the idea of witches and… well hell. Since Hieronymus Bosch drew lots of purgatory images. But you cant really do that for Disney. Plus to be fair, you’re meant to be able to throw ideas at a wall (even if they are very unlikely to work) for concept art and then be willing to immediately dump stuff and try new ideas without getting attached.
Side note, while the big selling point for the Betas is that they are edgy or can be used to explore darker subjects, people sometimes just make them borderline evil, or just… actual evil, did you know its very easy to find beta fics tagged with non con and/or underage? Yea. They make Willow actively hateful and sadistic or make the Lumity ship a copy paste of Catradora, aka have them beat the life out of each other but then say uwu owo its not toxic, they love each other.
(seriously i cannot take ship discourse in fandoms seriously, they'll say one ship is toxic or problematic and turn around and ship the same thing but worse.)
For the first point... You're absolutely right. I should not judge for someone exploring different possibilities in concept art because I have no idea when in production that art was made or what the idea for the show was at the time. A LOT of things go through a half a dozen rewrites before the public ever sees them. Frozen apparently came down to the wire for its final plot and it's a miracle we got what we did at all. And even then, I think that movie is still a bit of a mess at times.
Also, fun fact, I have considered an Owl House AU where Luz went to hell instead. In that, Eda would be a demon looking for redemption and her only real ally, but also the only one trying to be real with her so Luz keeps thinking the demons who want to manipulate her are the ones to trust. Amity would have also been an angel undercover and supposed to be giving reports to god about the comatose child who's soul went to hell for some reason when the worst she deserves is Limbo. I could do a concept pitch blog for it but *shrug*
So I think it's personally wrong to conflate canon material with fan material and what is being criticized. Fanworks and the like are one of the safest places to explore different topics or express pain and the like you've had. It also only commonly has one or two eyes on it to say something might be toxic while media on tv usually has a few dozen and the fact that no one catches the red flags is... questionable. Especially why those red flags exist.
(As a note: I can't weigh in on if Catradora is toxic or not because I have watched only one episode of that show. Not even the first. I really ought to though since it seems up my alley.)
WITH THAT SAID, fanfiction authors aren't exactly going to always be respectful about such topics and the like and it took the majority of a year for anyone to tell me people used the Betas for more than murderous, drug addicted psycopaths. Even those people praised a story for having the two get into random fist fights with strangers in a Denny's parking lot so... Yeah. I'm not going to say the characterization of the Betas in the fandom is the best, or their use for that matter.
With all that said, I feel like the nicer Amity has become, and the more the two have come closer and closer to their Beta designs, the less I see of the Betas. Even now, I see lot less blood smears and sadistic grins and a lot more "It's just a normal Lumity picture except a different design." These aren't criticisms really but more just me ruminating on the fact that I think the fandom lost a lot of people who liked the edgier possibilities because of how poorly the show handled its own edge.
As for me as a content creator, have I ever considered using the Betas? I mean, I have for a one off or two, notably a one off where Luz is a dragon and Amity the willing sacrifice to her, but a one off can be hard to capture anything really interesting about them. I'd say I've only had one idea where I maybe wanted to use the Betas and that idea is a Noir Mystery? (It's complicated) story where Amity is a brothel owner in part to make her mom mad, Boscha is both bouncer and stripper for said brothel and dating Amity and Luz is a detective but not super gritty or the like. More Columbo (from what I hear, haven't seen it myself) than normal pulpy fiction Noir types. Also her detective style would lean a lot more into reading people and connections than forensics.
Another story I could do a concept pitch blog for since god only knows when or if I'll ever get to it. That idea is WAY more fleshed out than the going to hell one though.
But yeah, the betas are fine in my opinion to exist and mostly fine in how the fandom uses them because... I mean, if you don't like what they're being used for, just don't consume it. It's not necessary AT ALL to be a part of the fandom and I think a lot of fandoms really need to learn to chill about content creators creating content they don't like.
I don't think people realize the sorts of spaces they're creating within their own fandom because of that or the damage to their show's popularity either. It's a complicated topic and one I've had to give a lot of thought as, well... Ex-erotica writer, remember? And I've still done one erotic story for TOH too, even if it's aged up.

Get to know me tag
I totally missed the tags from @cptjh-arts and @yayen-chan. Better late than never I guess?
rules: answer the questions and tag 9 people you want to know better
favourite colour: have to say blue. Although I like violet as well.
currently reading: do fanfictions count? ;) I haven't picked up a book in ... months. Oh my. Jumping between different fanfics and fandoms atm. Detroit Become Human (d'uh), Cyberpunk 2077, Dragon Age and Mass Effect for the most part.
The last book I read was a manga version of Pride and Prejudice if I remember correctly.
Last song: Panic Switch by Silversun Pickups. The song is part of a Spotify playlist I often listen to when I'm writing.
Last series: I usually jump from series to series depending on my mood. Last series would be: Queer as Folk, Outlander, Virgin River, Afterlife.
Last movie: last movie I put on in the background while I was doing something else was probably Frozen or Moana. Last movie I put on an was actually paying attention to it would be Detroit Evolution from Octopunk Media. I just can't get enough of those two.
sweet/savory/spicy: oh no, so I have to choose? I'll probably go for sweet then. I love crêpes suzette and cinnamon rolls, so...
currently working on: way too many things for brain to handle. Wips for basically everything I'm interested in. My first multi chapter dbh fanfiction should be finished and ready for beta reading soon. If I don't get distracted by another wip in the meantime. They are all in a state of an unfinished and unpolished mess right now.

One of the best tropes to ever exist is Idiots To Lovers
Where Person A pines helplessly after Person B, and is somehow oblivious to the fact that B likes them back despite how obvious it is
And then there's Person B who is oblivious to not just A's feelings, but also their own. They think they have suddenly developed a heart disease or something
It's obvious to literally EVERYONE but them
The frustration and urge to scream at them is one of the best feelings ever

Writing Announcement - First Challenge
As you probably know, or if you didn't, now you do, I write fanfics. I have been writing for 10 years (yes, it has apparently been that long). I have been writing under Jackie Wepps for 10 full years as of this past May (I can't believe it).
But in all this time, I have never done a single challenge. The reason is mainly that the idea of doing it never seemed appealing. Besides, I didn't know where to go to participate. I have always been writing as a "free spirit" for the most part, only accepting few requests, which I have done poorly in fullfilling.
But then a friend sent me a link to a post because she thought I might find it fun. I wasn't planning on doing it, but then ideas began to sprout in my head, and now, here I am.
So here it is.
I'm participating in MaeIso week 2022!
I'm planning to post a total of 8 works, I have 2 for the first day. It's all going to come up on AO3. I'm planning some art for one of the stories, however, which will be posted here, because I still don't know how to put art in the stories on AO3.
The works are all written, I just need to edit them and they will be good to go. Oh, and I need to rethink the title for the last one. Good thing I still have some time left to do that.
I look forward to sharing it all with you. I hope you will enjoy reading my works as much as I have enjoyed writing them.

Jackie in Japan - Natural Disasters
In Japan, nature seems to be the ruler of things. There are vulcanos, earthquakes, tsunamis and typhoons. In short, all four elements can come bother us whenever they want.
I shouldn't be in need of talking to you about vulcanos, and hopefully tsunamis will not be a conversation topic either. The only way is if I experience one. All else I can say can be found on the internet, much better explained than what I can do. I'll get to earthquakes eventually, no matter if I experience one or don't. However, the conversation topic for today is typhoons.
Typhoons are fairly common in Japan, especially in fall. They can apparently last anywhere between a few hours to a few days. They occur every year and are always taken seriously, no matter how big or small they may be.
Typhoon 11 is currently passing through Japan. Last week, it was going south, over Okinawa, but as one of my teachers said, it changed its mind and went north instead, to travel through Japan (Can't blame it. Japan is a nice country to travel through).
There has been talk about it since Friday last week. We were instructed to prepare to our best ability. We were to buy as much food and drink as possible, to last us for 3 days, in case it got really bad and we wouldn't be able to be selfsufficient for a time. I admit, I wasn't very good at that.
The typhoon was first predicted to take 2 days coming through, Monday and Tuesday this week. It was later predicted to last about a day, all Tuesday I think, and then just the night between Monday and Tuesday.
I woke up around 3 in the morning and heard the wind blow. I tell you, it was powerful, and a little scary, like thunder, but other than that, it just passed by. It had nearly died down completely by the time I got out of bed at 7:30. Nothing has changed outside, so it definitely wasn't bad this time. But maybe we won't be so lucky next time.
I want to know, what are your experiences with this? I'd love to read them.

WARNING! About Comments on AO3
To anyone who is lucky enough to not have noticed this yet, there is spam going on on AO3. I woke up to 15-16 comments, all from guest users containing a series of numbers and letters as well as a link. All of them have female names, Karen, Mary and stuff like that. I have asked someone I know to look into the link and he claims it is a "somewhat" innocent porn site (his words translated).
To be fair, I'm not sure I believe the other thing that has caused people to private their works for users only, so I originally opted to keep my works open, as I value anonymous responses to my works as much as those from registered users.
However, I will not be associated with things like what those comments link to. I have therefore, in light of these two events, decided that only AO3 users can read my works as of a few minutes ago. I will also be enabling comment moderation in the future as this will not happen again. I encourage you all to do the same.
Furthermore, I'm sure people do not need reminding in this day and age, but in case you do: do not touch a link unless you know where it goes or trust the person who sent it to you. Thanks to many experiences with things like this and many long talks with my parents in my teenage years, I know to be careful about this. If you are unsure of a link someone has sent you, please feel free to talk to me. I am no expert, but I believe I am getting really good at finding out what links to trust and what links not to trust. If I can't do it, I know an expert.
That is all. It pains me that it has to come to this, but as I said, I will not tolerate things like that in connection to my works. Thank you for your understanding.

It's 1 AM and I miss my old fandoms. I miss the hyperfixation feels.
This post got kinda long so I'm putting the rambling below the cut here
I'm surrounded by DSMP on tumblr, and I still like the characters and story. I see a lot of cool fanart and headcanons and stuff on my dash, it's really cool! I like seeing it! I like watching people love it. I like drawing stuff for it occasionally when prompted. Especially c!Ranboo, their character design is very fun to draw!
Like how I finished Tears of the Kingdom. It took up a large part of my brain for a month or two, I made art and thought so much about characters and their relationships and I started a rare pair tag and I even wrote an entire first draft of a short fanfiction for that rare pair, and then I finished it.
But I don't really think about DSMP it when I'm not looking directly at it. My object permanence isn't great. I mean I'm still kinda in the fandom? I'm very much surrounded by it. But I'm mostly just a quiet observer of it and not an active participant. I think it's cool but I don't feel all that passionate about it, especially compared to how I felt around the time I first discovered it.
And I enjoyed the ending. But it flipped a switch in my brain, and I quickly just. Stopped thinking about it the same way.
And I was frustrated, because I wanted to finish the second draft of that fanfiction, maybe get it edited enough to post it. But my brain had apparently decided that I was done with that fandom well before I was ready to be
I tried getting back into Genshin Impact and I got mostly caught up with the story. I explored new regions for weeks. I thought about my old favorite ship and worked on the fanfiction I'd put down months ago. but then I just stopped thinking about it. And maybe that was partly because school just started, but I think the interest was fading anyways
I was then focused on my ocs and their original story for a couple months, but I haven't thought about them much recently. Again probably because of school
School takes up too much of my time. I wish I had the space for something I love to take up space in my brain. I miss the feeling of loving something so much that i can't stop thinking about it, I miss being excited over characters, I miss shipping
Although I've felt all those things while attending school before. So maybe I'm just in a phase. Maybe I'll fall in love with something again soon. Maybe I need to make myself draw more
I have been wanting to read the remaining 2/3s of Homestuck. Maybe if I remember I can be crazy about that for a while
But it's so frustrating. That my fandoms tend to only last a few months, or come and go in phases. I wish I could stick with something for longer, and more consistently. I'm so tired of my interests waxing and waning. I guess the variety is kinda nice. But it doesn't give me much ability to build much of anything.
#it is late at night and i am mourning past hyperfixations#if i could sleep i would#but my brain sucks and also hates me so oh well.#at least i don't have school tomorrow#this is a messy post but im gonna post it anyways#its just me talking to myself but. idk maybe someone else can relate?#im gonna try to sleep now tho.

These tags intrigued me, I have more thoughts (not confrontational or anything just fascinated by difference of experience)
Cause like I definitely don't think fandom was better circa 2012-2018??? when I was involved more deeply in fandom. I think if you're a person of color in fandom the experience then or now is especially always going to be shit and it's going to feel like wading in the fucking trenches. I think fandom culture has always been rotten as long as you got white people being the most vocal majority. And I think the one improvement we've made is that the discussion on adults behavior towards minors and about media about or containing minors, about racism, about other awful shit is now out in the open at a bigger scale. There were always people willing to talk about these things, but the likelyhood of them being drowned out by harrassment and especially racism was like on a different level, like its STILL absolutely happens and I still see it happen but I think a lot of people now have at the very least much bigger spaces to have these convos, especially amongst ourselves as targets of said fandom racism, ableism, etc. But the downside of this is that the people who HAVE gotten called out for shit are ALSO much more openly aggressive and shameless, especially towards minors and poc.
BUT like what I was referring to in my original post as something I "enjoyed" is the balance of fandom related content OUTSIDE and beside fan fiction specifically on tumblr. From my experience, it felt like a pretty balanced ratio of fanfic, fan art, gifsets, giveaways, meta discussion, fan projects like zines, etc cause they were always on my dash plain as day, literally never had to look for it and when I did it was easy to find. I even still have mutuals from those days and they too notice the change!
It wasn't like now, where you practically have to scroll past 20 pages of badly tagged fan fiction. It was always a nice mix of stuff; a fanfic here, a gifset there, a sprinkling of fan art, etc Now it's like can't go into a single interest without at least scrolling past 15 posts in a row of PURE fan fic before you find maybe one piece of fan art sanwhiched between the next ten. I literally have to put additional tags (for example rn let's say you have to be like "miguel o'hara, art, fan art" + show pictures only feature) to find specific things AND EVEN THEN fan fiction will still clog my results because tumblr picks up on the gifs, screencaps, photos, etc. people use to decorate or draw attention to their fan fic for some reason.
So it's like there absolutely is a saturation in fandoms focus on fanfiction and as someone else said in the tags, I think the general epidemic of faster hollower consumption of all things, including media and art, has both contributed to so much of that oversaturation and produced work thats not so fucking great! I mean back in the day you still had people absolutely writing very weak to badly written work, don't get me wrong, but finding and tracking down works with a substantial amount of thought into the original narratives and characterizations of their inspiration, of trying to improve their literary skills, working with editors, OF BEING OPEN TO CRITIQUE, was so much more likely! And the middle of the road stuff wasn't a complete loss either.
Like to me there is just such an apparant change in the ratio of content and quality produced in fandom and now that I think about it like the sense of idk an actual creative community?? The only time I see people really rally is when anybody has actual critique on fandom culture or on someone in fandoms behaviour. Like I mentioned before people used to get together all the time and do like collaborative fics, online zine projects, giveaways of merch they'd made or copies of things they didn't need anymore/wanted to share, other art projects like tarot decks, etc as a fun way to engage with each other. Some of these fun things absolutely still exist but they're usually done in much smaller scales and in smaller fandoms I'm in and they dont happen quite as much. Of course theres other reasons the reduction in these projects has happened (aka disastrous scams lol) but it's interesting that its fallen out of style among fan spaces, I see it more in specificically LGBT spaces that say, people get together to make a zine. Fandom now seems very very disconnected in some particular way now on here that I cant quite put into words that really doesnt feel as capable of enjoyment??? Enjoyment now comes from SUPER curating who and what you're interacting with instead of like more of a casual pick and choose, steady flow of variable content.
#like last time i saw an art project for a fandom i was in was maybe last year?? year before last???#the tbna tarot deck one! and i havent seen shit since other than the aforementioned lgbt zines#but thats not fandom and id rather die than call it that...#but anyway i know yall are tired of me talking about this SORRY akskskkdks

Including a few more replies to #5347
Anon:
The original ask is kinda old by now, but I have a few things I wanna say about 5347, particularly directed at people telling OP to just block blogs that post things they don’t like in the tags they frequent. I’m going to use myself as an example. The fandom I’m a part of used to be a lot smaller than it is now, with the new popularity came a lot of ship art/fic with a particular character that wasn’t there before. I hate this. I would like to pretend it doesn’t exist, I don’t want to see it, I don’t want to see the “This post contains filtered content” boxes Tumblr uses instead of just getting rid of the post like I fucking asked for, I don’t want to know it’s there. I blocked 209 different blogs off the top of the main character tag I have issue with. 209, and it barely made a dent. All the other character tags they’re frequently shipped with were basically untouched (full of ship art). Main Character Tag is now 10-20 of the newest posts under that tag (again mostly ship art I haven’t sorted through yet), the same 25-50 posts that aren’t ship related I’ve already filtered through, and then a hard line where I stopped. And here’s the kicker, I unfollowed almost all of my mutuals from this fandom because they also now post the art/fics I don’t want to see. So no, I can’t have someone else filter through it for me. This is by far the most batshit thing I’ve ever done. I was just so sick of seeing it, and it did next to nothing other than forcing a shit ton of my own followers to unfollow me. I still can’t use any of the tags and still have no people I can engage with, and 209 different people can no longer see my art. Great. It is impossible. The thing you’re telling them to do is not possible in certain situations. If something is popular enough and prevalent enough that you don’t like, you don’t get to enjoy the fandom anymore. I didn’t want to see ship art related to one of the 20+ characters from this one fandom, and it’s getting to a point where I can’t be part of it at all anymore. The only things I get to see are my own posts, which really fuckin sucks and it’s very quickly pushed me out of the space that’s meant so much to me for so long. “Just block them” isn’t a reasonable solution, and the problem OP was talking about isn’t as trivial as you’d like to pretend it is.

what is that "main tag" thing that people are talking about? I'm not sure I get it right what it means. If for example I want to read "spiderman fanfiction" but I don't want "x reader", logically I have block "#x reader" in the tag list and content I don't want to see, right? Yet, the browsing results still displays "x reader" stuff, either untagged, y/n, or addressing "you" without mentioning the word reader, rendering the filter useless. Do I have to block every single blog that aren't considerate enough to put "#x reader" in the tags? Or if I follow you "avoid the main tag" thing, are you saying I have to wholly avoid looking at "#spiderman fanfiction" just because the main part of the cake is plagued with "x reader"? Doesn't seem fair to me (even if apparently I'm asked to blog every single non taggers instead of venting about that), but it's also no fair for the few people who actually wrote "spiderman fanfiction" WITHOUT "x reader" but will never be seen since apparently the courtesy here is to steer away if you can't stand looking and scrolling down at the load of "x reader". Of course, expecting all people to tags, expecting all dislikers to block instead of "whining" is sheer utopia. But maybe one day, people will actually get fed up with getting their asses lit with the same ventings again and again and will finally realize that a poor few extra seconds for tagging or blocking saves the day of headache and arguments. But again, that's apparently too much to ask.
Rounding up a few responses to Fandom Problem #5347 and ensuing replies
Anon:
5347 seems to be getting a lot of really whiny people getting upset they dared complain about people not tagging things properly. Even people who agree it’s a problem are being like “well it’s your job to cope with it. Just accept it.” My brother in Christ, this is the blog where people complain about issues. That’s the point. People are saying “you signed on for this by following the main tag” and aren’t considering they signed on to see people complaining about things they’ve decided you should just grin and bear for some reason by following a blog like this.

Yeah, not everyone is going to tag, but it should be expected Bring up the drunk driver point from earlier. People who don't tag should be treated similarly. There needs to be (social) consequences for fans who don't tag Yeah, there's always going to be drunk drivers but that does not mean they just get to do as they please If someone doesn't tag something, or they tag it incorrectly, kindly ask for them to fix it and if they choose to not properly tag, stone wall them fuck out of fandom. Report their un/under tagged posts for spam (or worse if it applies, e.g., sexual content if it's nsft), block them, get your friends to block them too, and make it so they no longer want to hang around because their rude ass is getting no attention. Fandom should be inhospitable towards people who can't take the three seconds to add a tag and show basic human respect for others Don't send hatemail, of course, or dox them or any of that bullshit, but drive them out through a mix of using the TOS and reporting and mass blocking. It should be expected to either tag or be ignored, just like how you should be expected to filter those tags as need be or suffer through being squicked/triggered with no one else to blame besides yourself and/or your guardian(s) depending on your age Everyone should drive with caution, but they shouldn't have to consistently expect drivers because people shouldn't be drunk driving, and drunk drivers should have consequences when they decide to drive drunk because it's both selfish and puts others at risk (Or, to translate the analogy for those not following along: everyone should browse with caution and have their blacklist up to date and be ready to block, but they shouldn't have to consistently expect to have to block people because people should be properly tagging their posts, and people who don't tag their posts should have consequences because they're being selfish and risking triggering/squicking people out because they want attention [if they have the time and energy to put it in the main tag, they have the time and energy to tag a few other things too])
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anon:
The solution to seeing content you don't like that wasn't tagged properly is to... scroll past it and move on. Trust me, I know. It's annoying when you end up seeing content you didn't want to, or when it ends up cluttering up what you /were/ looking for, but being outraged about it is not a good solution. If you fixate on it, then you'll remember it and think about it more. If you just go "oh, that's not tagged, I wish it was" and scroll past and focus on the content you /do/ want to see, then you'll eventually forget you even saw it (unless it's something particularly egregious, but it's an inevitability of the internet that you'll come across that sometimes). If you're not mature enough to handle the idea of sometimes seeing things that weren't tagged properly, than I don't think you're mature enough to be on the internet. Also the internet is not /for/ children, it is a place where children are /allowed/ to be. It is not an adults responsibility to moderate their online presense just in case a minor ends up seeing something that makes them uncomfortable. Especially on websites that allow +18 content. Obviously an adult should make it clear that they're account is not for minors, and try to avoid interactions with minors, but adults should be allowed to make adult content for other adults without having to think about the hypothetical minor that might come across it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anon:
May you explain me how to avoid a tag that's not here? Here's a silly example: I'm looking for #green, but I don't want to see #orange, so I filter out #orange in the contents and tags I don't want to see. Yet in the browsing results, it's still jammed with #orange, and most of the time untagged. How do I "not look"? Am I expected to block every single blog talking about untagged #orange? When I'm just looking for #green stuff?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anon: (replying to this ask)
I'm sorry, but I can't take anyone who calls the person they're arguing with "sweetie" seriously. It makes it sound like you're about to try and sell me essential oils to cure cancer and depression. I don't know why people do this, but it always makes me laugh.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anon:
"Your oh so precious "block button" could probably be effective if people TAGGED just like I block tags I don't like. Blocked tags won't work if they don't exist in the first place." Reply: Blocking tags is one thing, but can't you just block users? Sure it happens after the fact and you've already seen whatever it is, but you can't preemptively stop unwanted interactions every time. There's always going to be some kind of content you never knew existed and it will pop up and yell 'boo'. I feel like if you can't handle the risk of seeing stuff that grosses you out or annoys you (and that's fair, more power to you), maybe it's best you just don't go in those tags or subscribe to them? You have a right to be pissed off that people don't tag, etc, but if you constantly dwell on that and don't take measures to stop exposing yourself to that kind of thing (reasonable measures like not looking at or subscribing to certain tags), it's not healthy man.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anon:
"People are going to drink drive anyway" is not a reason to remove legal consequences for drink driving, or to stop teaching new drivers why it's important to stay sober, or to ask anyone who gets hit by a drunk driver "What, were you too precious to just drive defensively?" "There will always be people who don't follow basic tagging etiquette" is not a reason to stop educating new fans about what that etiquette is, or to expect anyone not to get annoyed when a significant number of people cannot be bothered to follow very simple tagging courtesies. So many of you in the responses think everyone should be responsible for their own fandom experience? Then why are you coming to a blog that's specifically dedicated to giving people a space to complain about fandom problems that they find annoying, and having a problem with people complaining about fandom problems that they find annoying?
