word count : 1k

summary
ever since anakin had killed dooku, your anxiety has never settled. for you were watching him slowly lose himself in the war. and you lie late at night lost in the idea that maybe, being with you didn't make any difference at all. so, you watched him sleep, at peace, stealing what little time you could have with him.
tags : angst, comfort, love, flangst (?)
warnings : pretty much none, just angsty stuff to cry to hehe
notes : hello beautiful people! i finished the film past lives and there's this one line that just shattered me 😭 so i just wanna share this little imagine before i go to sleep :) hope ya like it 🪽🩷
likes, comments, and reblogs are highly appreciated ! (and fuels me hehe)
Anakin Skywalker is your secret.
Your beautiful little secret.
Here wrapped in these sheets, where everything softens. Hushed. Kissed by the gentle rays of the moonlight.
You have been awake for some time now. But you didn't dare move. Anakin was still deep in his dreams exhausted from the day before. Despite his slumber, his arms wrap around you protectively.
You placed your head on his chest, following his breathing and listening to the soft thuds of his heart.
Your gaze lands on his peaceful expression.
How can someone look so beautifu?
You thought, he looked like the people in the paintings. Like how an artist would imagine a being with the perfect proportions. And he'd move as if each stroke is intended with grace.
The force made him. You'd sometimes catch yourself lost in his eyes, staring, studying the way it'd crease at the ends when he smiles. Is he even human? You'd think to yourself. He is the galaxy made flesh. That has to account for his prettiness, you think.
You take a deep breath; the scales of the ongoing war are further tipped to the Republic's advantage after Anakin had killed Dooku.
It was so close. Even the air itself has shifted. You can feel it, the end. You can almost visualize it.
Maybe then, things will change...
Selfishly, you feel your heart ache by the little amount of time you could share with Anakin. You can't help it, you have always belonged to him, and for that, you have suffered.
He is the Jedi Order's first. Before you can call him yours. You're not even sure if he is his own's anymore. Because you've watched how this war takes so much of him.
Be smarter, Be more cunning, Be more ruthless. Offer yourself again and again and again.
There's so little of him that remains.
You blinked, sighing once more. You reminded yourself that you are here, tangled in his embrace. It was enough to know that here he lies, with you.
Anakin shifts and you hold your breath. You begged the Gods to not wake him, not yet, let me have him, just for now.
Anakin mutters something. Huttese, the language he grew up on. Your eyebrows furrowed, you never really got to understanding the language even after studying it.
His heart paces under your touch. You kept your gaze on his face, deciding whether you should wake him up or have him rest.
He has been having so many nightmares lately...
His eyes abruptly open and you lent your weight on your elbow to better survey him.
"It's alright, Ani, it was just a dream" You spoke softly, careful not to startle him.
Anakin's wide-eye terror softens at the sight of you, his chest heaves trying to catch his breath.
"It's alright" You coo once more, placing a kiss on his forehead.
He presses his eyes close, and his eyes are intent in yours as he follows your breathing.
You can't help but feel a sting in your heart. He is reaching his limit, and it worries you that whenever he's away, he is close to blurring the lines and crossing it.
Anakin presses his face to your clavicle, and your hands find a way to tangle in his hair. Noticing his silence, you spoke soothingly "What's on your mind, Ani?"
Anakin's breath felt warm against your neck. You used to be able to read Anakin's thoughts. Like he'd write it down in words on pages of a novel for you to be able to understand him. But now, he's been more distant, more incoherent, and you feel as though you have to decipher every little thing that he allows you to see.
"mmm—just tired" Anakin's voice was gravelly and of resignation.
Stop turning me away. You wanted to say. But you already know that the more you try to push him, the further he'll hide away.
You take a deep breath, wishing you could take away some of the weight off his shoulders. "You know you speak in Huttese when you're asleep"
"I do?" Anakin tilts his chin, his eyes are still half-asleep.
"Yeah, I could never understand it though" You managed a wan smile.
"That's probably good for you, Huttese is a very coarse language" He claims.
"Still—" You held back your tongue, deciding it would only drive him away if you asked about his dream.
"I fear that you dream in a language I can't understand"
The silence hung. Anakin must be asleep.
Your gaze moved faraway— deep in contemplation. Wondering if you being in his life made any difference at all.
"You know, I only ever feel like myself when I'm with you, right?" Anakin speaks, voice barely above a whisper.
Your cheeks flushed scarlet, realizing your force signature may have revealed your anxieties.
"I know"
Anakin shifts his head, eyes latched on to you like he was memorizing every detail of your face.
"Ani" you began, "If there's a life after it all, will you come with me?"
Anakin's eyebrows flashed at the suddenness of your question.
"What do you mean?" He places his hand on the small of your back, tracing small circles.
"Well, I'm only wondering, will you come with me, even then?"
Anakin's expression softens, recognizing your fears. You were losing him, slowly, bit by bit. And if you're bound to him in this life, why not in the other?
When you can finally feel like you're not constantly the only one holding on.
He doesn't answer for a while, you feel the need to ramble, to withdraw.
It was silly of you to ask, he is free to choose whatever life he wants to live after it all, besides, if he decides to want to rest, you won't take that away from him, if he ever wants to—
"I'll go wherever you go" he declares, halting the thoughts plaguing your mind.
His eyes drift away from yours "I can't... I know what my duty requires of me and I'm sorry if I haven't been here for you."
"But, I'll love you in a time that isn't stolen" he promises, tucking your hair away from your face.
You felt tears glistening in your eyes. You smiled, leaning in to tenderly kiss Anakin.
The hope of it all would be enough to keep you going.
Just a little while longer.

The unnecessary lack of personal stakes of Marinette Dupain-Cheng in the Agreste Arc
Inspired by a recent post by @starguardianniom, with half pinched again from my own reblog:
Marinette has zero personal stakes in the main conflict of her show, except that she happened to be the first girl who helped Fu across the road, and was thus chosen to wear the earrings. She doesn't even really seem to have any reason to be Ladybug aside from the basic "I can't sit back and do nothing" she stated in Origins. So a sense of responsibility conferred by being the bearer of the earrings, and an ostensible general desire to do good.
This would be fine, except that Adrien very much did have a reason to continue being Chat Noir. Plagg's Miraculous is the source of his freedom, and a new identity of his own making separate from the carefully curated child of Gabriel Agreste. Most importantly he had so much personal connection to the core plot that his narrative potential dwarfed Marinette's beyond compare.
His mere existence is the very axis of the plot, putting it in motion by the apparent desire for a designer child seeming being the very reason Gabriel and Emile sought the Miraculous all those years ago, and the consequences of his creation being the very reason that Gabriel devolves into magical terrorism. Hawkmoth being his father whom Adrien clearly cares for and whose goal of restoring his much mourned mother setup a truly impressive case for split loyalties for when Adrien (seemingly) inevitably learnt of his father's identity and true goal:
I made a comparison before between Avatar and Miraculous where Avatar won without question. Allow me to balance the scales here: the setup for Adrien potentially turning on Ladybug, or having to sacrifice his familial bonds for the sake of justice outweighed Zuko's own setup for choosing his ''honour"/loyalty to his family over his burgeoning sense of justice.
In potential at least. Rest assured that Zuko's character arc still far eclipses anything Adrien was ever allowed.
But the point I'm trying to make here is that in the very story that bears her name, Ladybug's only reason to be involved comes from the fact that she happens to have Tikki's Miraculous. She has no personal investment in the fate of Hawkmoth than other citizen of Paris, she certainly has no conflicting loyalties.
She doesn't even have a personal reason to continue being Ladybug. You can draw a parallel if you like with one of her ostensible inspirations Peter Parker, who learnt the price of personal inaction in a harsh and unforgiving manner that selflessly drives him to protect others. You can say that the Stoneheart incident fulfills a similar role.
But here's the thing: Peter Parker is Spiderman thanks to his radioactive blood. Ladybug is whoever wears Tikki's Miraculous. If Peter retires, he takes his powers away from the protection of New York. If Marinette gives up her Miraculous, a new Ladybug will arise in her place within a day. There's no need for her to be Ladybug, to take on that responsibility, and until the season three finale there's no personal stake for her to be the girl under the mask any more than any other Parisian citizen.
And that means that Marinette isn't the heart of her own story. In Avatar, it's Aang's quest to defeat the Fire Lord because it has to be him that restores balance. In Star Wars, it's Luke whose connection with Vader that has to restore Anakin's better nature. In just about any series there is a pressing need and personal stakes for the protagonist to be that The Protagonist of that story, that make that story their story.
But the setup here has all the pathos and personal stakes placed upon Adrien. Marinette is the centerpiece of the show, but Adrien's handed all of the narrative potential even as the writers let it go to waste.
It's like preparing a finely seasoned meal, then leaving it to rot as you serve plain vegetables. There's just no reason to have the vegetables when the fine meal is ready for consumption: and if that's a problem? If the plain vegetables were always meant to be the centrepiece? Then you should have seasoned the vegetables and made something delectable with them.
Because the saddest apart about Marinette having or actual ties or pathos to the Agreste Arc is that once upon a time that was not the case.
In previous Miraculous proposals, before the PV, Marinette Cheng was at least as part of the main story as Felix/Adrien was. There were various versions of how the story would go, with one echoing Cardcaptor's plot, and the later proposals looking more like what we got in the final product.
But all had Marinette having a personal stake in the story. In the Cardcaptor-esque plot, Marinette was Fu's granddaughter (or granddaughter figure), and Fu was the caretaker of the The Orb. A crystal that contained all the "fairies" (beings that served both the roles Kwamis and Akumas would later take). The story kicked off because Marinette brought her crush Felix into her Grandfather's store and accidentally broke The Orb, shattering it and allowing the Fairies to escape across Paris and empower countless people- heroes and villains both.
It was her mission to retrieve the Fairies, because she was the one who had released them. She was Fu's granddaughter and it was her responsibility to clean up her mess. It was her story, and Felix/Adrien was the one with less direct connection.
Later proposals ditched The Orb as the Kwamis were developed, but up until the most recent and final versions of the story Marinette retained Fu as either her blood Grandfather outright or at least a mentor so close from her childhood that she thought of him as a Grandfather. She also was usually being trained to be a Guardian or something like it herself from childhood.
She wasn't just a girl Fu found on the side of the road. She had as much connection to the Guardians and their world as Felix/Adrien did to Papillion. It even added a certain Montague-Capulet tragic element to the romance, since if Felix/Adrien and Marinette ever got together it would mean one having to choose between their partner and their family.
But for some reason, in the final product Marinette was stripped of all pre-series personal connections to the Miraculous.
The question is why? Was there really so great a need for Martinette to be "a girl like any other" that all of the plot relevance needed to be stripped out of her and added to Adrien, only to then completely ignore all that potential pathos by sidelining Adrien at every turn?
Because if you weren't going to do anything with Adrien, then all you've done is needlessly undermine Marinette's potential as a character.
Seriously, if you had given me the backstory of these two characters and asked which one was the main character: there would have been no chance I would have selected Marinette. Because all the writers have given her backstory is side-character material, whereas Adrien's very existence, as well as his relationship to his family and the Miraculous is at the heart of the story.
And I doubt there would be many others who would think otherwise.
#ml writing salt#ml writing critical#Literally the worst of both options here. Marinette is both disconnected from the core story AND the most important person in it.#Meanwhile Adrien has ALL the narrative potential and pathos. But he's left on the shelf because otherwise he'd overshadow Marinette's story#They had a perfectly good setup. It's beyond me why they dropped it in favor of this one.#Of all the questionable writing choices this is the one that confuses me the most.#Why give Adrien all the setup if you weren't going to use any of it? Why take away 99% of Marinette's if she's meant to be the story focus?#I recommend the Artbook Wiki for anybody who wants to learn more about the development cycle of Miraculous (link below).#https://www.artbookwiki.com/phases-of-development/mini-menace

i think discussion of the prequel trilogy is really hampered when you consider the pt a stand-alone piece. it’s not! it’s only half the story. anakin skywalker’s story doesn’t end on mustafar; neither does obi-wan’s, and padmé’s influence lives far beyond on her death. the original trilogy is fait accompli. the main characters' story arcs in the pt work so because it was directly reverse engineered from the ot.
most, if not all, of the questions the ot brings up both mechanical as well as thematic (what happened to the jedi order? what about the twins' mom? what was the galaxy like before the empire? what caused anakin's fall?) are answered in the pt. equally, all of what appear to be loose threads at the end of the pt (what is the future of the jedi order, who is the best of the jedi? luke. what is the cure to the dark side? love, connection, it's how luke saves anakin. will the galaxy ever get better? yes, luke and leia are leaving the galaxy better than their parents left it) are answered in the ot.
you can't divorce the prequel trilogy from the fact that it is a tragedy. nothing about rotj would be triumphant if there was nothing for luke to redeem anakin from or anything left to fix. it's also, by definition, a prequel, so the characters are never going to entirely succeed, and that's their tragedy and dramatically ironic end. padmé never gets to reform the republic (she's murdered by the republic's killer); obi-wan doesn't get to see anakin defeat the sith (anakin destroys the order and joins the sith); and anakin never gets to free the slaves (instead he becomes one, again). who's at fault, here, for the state of the galaxy at the end of rots? everyone and no one. there's more blame to be assigned to some than others (palpatine, for one; anakin, who's doing the murdering) but these characters are not real people actually on trial at the hague. all the pt characters all have to have made irreversible mistakes in someway, by demand of fate and plot, wherein every single character's decision––especially those made with the best intentions––will doom them in some horrific, completely unforeseeable manner.
and all of this would be an understandable end to a tragedy. but the last scenes of rots, like fortinbras arriving to find horatio, do provide hope and luke and leia's existence begin to transition the story to the classical hero's journey. the two trilogies are fundamentally intertwined, spiritual sisters and spiritual antitheses, and it's only the original trilogy that can provide answers and solutions to the pt's problems. parts of obi-wan, padmé, and anakin's characters fundamentally could not be resolved without the characters of the ot. and there's real beauty to it! the relief, the comfort, the hope you feel when binary sunset plays at the end of rots is what makes the ot's triumph so much more emotional in light of the pt's dark tragedy.

ok but if we're going to lean into the "jedi as space catholics" as they r developed re: the prequels i want go full fucking historical catholic. i want a famous jedi who lived up on a pillar for 37 years. im goin whole hog on a jedi who bricked herself into wall in the temple to achieve spiritual enlightenment. FLAGELLANTS. litcherally all of thomas à becket, up to and including selling his blood as a souvenir. alright but jedi pilgrimage? jedi whose cloaks are covered in a million different tiny pilgrimage badges from all over the galaxy? meanwhile other jedi writing screeds about how veneration vis a vis an object is sacrilegious & bastardization of meditation? i want NOTHING more than to read a jedi summa theologica. "how many midicholrians can fit on the head of a pin?" is considered with absolutely unironic dead seriousness. it would be so, so boring and completely atrocious. i want it ALL

i am a little mystified by the persistent idea that the jedi order has “mindhealers” that were, like, psychologists with magic emotional powers. i can’t find any mention of this outside fanfic? where did it come from?? why did it come from??? i mean. logically. would the jedi still be Like That ™ if they had any sort of psychology, counseling, and/or psychiatric help. really

luke’s scene in rotj where he throws down his lightsaber and says, “I’ll never turn to the dark side. you failed, your highness. i am a jedi, like my father before me,” makes me more and more emotional each time i see it. it’s such a triumph and it’s such a brave stand—not only because luke is literally facing down death with no real expectations of escaping the death star ii, which on its own has such impact—but because he is more or less declaring himself a heretic. the only two jedi left alive do not believe vader can be saved. vader himself believes he is far past saving. palpatine is so poised for victory, so assured in his complete control over not only luke’s fall but also his control over vader, that he is happy to torture luke in front of vader, absolutely convinced that vader will do nothing to stop it. in light of the prequel trilogy, it’s made even more powerful: the jedi disavowed having children as an extension of attachments, a matter of course for the old jedi order. but when luke is in his moment of greatest need, he calls out to his father, and his father answers. ultimately, it’s their forbidden familial relationship that defines them as jedi—luke is becomes a jedi in honor of his father, and his father turns back from the dark side (a feat thought impossible until that very instance) and recalls the jedi knight anakin skywalker, all for his son. and that’s all in defiance of what the jedi were told to be, what obi-wan and yoda believed, what palpatine never thought possible! luke redefines what a jedi is when he throws down his weapon. he trusts in the power of his connection to his father, their attachment to each other, and when he does that? luke skywalker topples the empire.

Yeah, that coward OP blocked me for criticizing their precious Bail Organa on their post, so I'm going to have to say it here:
I disagree with there being necessarily nothing wrong with taking advantage of an opportunity. It is wrong when that opportunity comes from someone else's misfortune and you take advantage of that misfortune instead of helping to alleviate it as much as possible. That baby girl's family was being torn apart and instead of helping to keep it together, Bail took advantage of the opportunity for a child to claim as his own and scavenged her from them. That's quite covetous, callous, and cruel, and that's the problem with so many adoptive parents, which is why the adoption system is so corrupt. As for not considering all the factors, Bail Organa was an experienced politician in the middle of a crisis who held the fate of an entire planet in his hands. He should have considered all of those risks to his nation and his family before making such a stupid decision. Like you said, that makes him a bad leader that he was willing to endanger his planet like that.
But you're right about everything else, though.

Hello! I've been thinking about adoption after your post and wanted to follow up. What's your ideal adoption system? I know some parents want free babies to prevent possible interference from biological parents down the road. Even though babies may form bonds with their mother, won't they just eventually forget anyway? I can hardly remember anything before 5 years old.
That kind of adoptive parents you're talking about are half the problem with the adoption system. It's because of them that it's a corrupt industry that makes millions of dollars off of exploiting and manipulating vulnerable women, much like the abortion industry. They're spoiled, entitled, covetous vultures who want womb-wet babies to replace the ones they can't have while ignoring the fact that God gave them to someone else first. Preventing interference from biological parents should be the last thing on their minds, but it's often the first thing that they consider, even though it's rarely ever what the children need. Those babies may consciously forget their moms, but I don't think that their subconscious minds ever forget. The trauma that separation from their moms causes is so profound that it has significant psychological and even physical effects that can last a lifetime. And then there's still the inherited genetics that determine their brain structure and chemistry, which lays the foundations for a child's temperament, preventing them from bonding with their adoptive parents like they ever could with their biological parents. Even adoptees with loving adoptive parents always know that there's something missing, even if they don't always acknowledge it and it takes them decades to do so.
I already mentioned in the comments on that post that kinship care and legal guardianship are better alternatives if the parents can't or won't care for the kids no matter how hard you try to convince them or support them. Adoption should be a last resort if an option at all, and even then, it shouldn't be closed or lasting.

You know that your interpretation of a ship is bad when you have to ignore the significant character and relationship development in the narrative (especially in later parts) that makes the ship work. You also know you're misinterpreting it when you're comparing it to characters and ships that have nothing in common with it.

A message from a Zutarian
Kataang shippers and other Zutara antis, you might have Bryke and their canon, but we now have the other writers and their broadcast drafts of the scripts. There's now no valid reason to call us delusional for reading Zutara into the A:TLA narrative any more than Kataang. So I suggest you take a good look at these before proceeding to do so or telling us that the buildup was never part of the canon.

Hi! I am making a return to the SW fandom, and obviously love me some Obikin... I remember reading a fanfiction many years ago but I can't find it. It was taking place between AotC and RotS, I believe, or maybe earlier than that as Anakin might have been a Padawan still... He and Obi-Wan were sorta forced to go through the mating rites of the local population that they were trying to sway to the Republic's side, or something like that. Please please please can you help me find it?
Hello anon and welcome back to the fandom!
I'm very sorry to say that I don't read that many fics and I have no idea which fic you're talking about. This trope is also pretty common in this fandom, so you'd probably have a few options
But maybe someone else in here has some specific recs for you? If anyone's got suggestions feel free to reblog and link them here!!

A, O and U for the fandom asks?
Thank you so much! A: my current ships are Percabeth, Lumity, Catradora, and Glimbow. I have other ships like Stormpilot and Fierrochase, but those four are the ones I am really into. O: Every time I listen to High Hopes by P!ATD I am immediately reminded of Percy Jackson. Phoenix and Light ‘Em Up by FOB give me TCW and ROTS Anakin vibes respectively. I went through a phase a while back where I would go absolutely nuts picking songs for various characters and ships, so I could ramble on for quite a while with what I remember picking for various characters.
U:
1: Ahsoka Tano (Star Wars) (shocking, I know)
2: Ms. Marvel (Marvel)
3: Percy Jackson (Riordanverse)
4: Luz Noceda (TOH)
5: Glimmer (SPOP) Honorable mentions: Toph Beifong (ATLA), Julia Argent (Carmen Sandiego), and my fellow Aries Kipo Oak (KATAOW) and Alex Claremont-Díaz (RWRB)
Honestly the characters I picked tell you everything you ever need to know about the type of person I am.

So my Australian internet friend told me that their country is developing a space program, and this is one of the proposed names:

I am DYING. Godspeed, Aussies.
ID below cut.
ID: A twitter post from Space Australia (@space_aus) that says "The most exciting time in Australia's history has now been announced. It's now time for us to understand and explore our universe #space_aus". Underneath is an image with a dark background and a space station in the bottom corner. In the foreground is a cirricular logo with ARSE written in the center and the words "Australian Research & Space Exploration" beneath it. Below is a comment by Stavvers that says "Getting misty-eyed imagining the future: spaceships exploring strange new worlds, seeking out new life and new civilizations, going boldly &c., &c., all while triumphantly bearing "ARSE" in large letters on their hulls. I have never felt more patriotic than I do at this very moment." End ID
