During the time limit motive Ouma very loudly announced to everybody that he was going to sit in his room, empathizing that he was going to be alone, and I think it was Iruma who said about it sounding like he was asking to be killed or something with relatively similar implication.

I mean, I'm certain he believed he could convince whoever came after him not to go through with it, but he's also too smart to completely disregard the possibility of them trying to kill him, anyway.

My point is, Ouma was already willing to risk his life in the very first chapter. That, and his reputation for the sake of the group (infamous calling Akamatsu out on pushing everybody too hard). Though I would also say it's a bit different than the press situatiom, as in risking his life vs completely giving it.

Oh yeah he’s definitely doing something there, I wonder how he would have reacted if someone tried, I bet he booby trapped the door or something. He has no problem using himself as bait, it’s just that sense of “I die so you live” some people give him that I really struggle with. He’s willing to risk his life, but a risk is different then a direct sacrifice. One’s a calculated move of risk reward and the other is a lot more emotion based then Kokichi is comfortable with.

We know Kokichi has at least some fighting skills thanks to his take down of Kaito, and while he’s certainly not the strongest, the fact that even if he’s pretty tired at the end he was still able to help lift the cage in chapter 3 shows a good amount of strength even if by this point in the game shuichi is stronger. I think he could have a decent fighting chance against a good amount of the class, even without his ability to convince people of things. Hell I would put it past him to wait in his room then immediately sprint out his door wailing at the top of his lungs and force his would be killer to chase him and only like two people are capable of winning that chase

That’s all conjecture though, i guess what I’m trying to say is that Kokichi’s 100% down to gamble his life, but he’s not really down for a direct willing sacrifice, and is very willing to play dirty for his survival. He’ll weigh odds and gamble on revealing the assassin, but that’s very different from just letting yourself die for someone else.

I suppose it’s kinda pointless to go “this character would NEVER” because there’s always going to be nuance and exceptions. I just get annoyed when Kokichi seems to jump to just letting himself die for someone pretty fast in stories. Like I know it’s dramatic and romantic and I get the appeal and don’t mind if other people enjoy it… but also he would just let them die even if he is secretly dramatically in love with them unless he believes him surviving is somehow the worse logical risk vs reward outcome.

the thing is there's like, a point of oversaturation for everything, and it's why so many things get dropped after a few minutes. and we act like millennials or gen z kids "have short attention spans" but... that's not quite it. it's more like - we did like it. you just ruined it.

capitalism sees product A having moderate success, and then everything has to come out with their "own version" of product A (which is often exactly the same). and they dump extreme amounts of money and environmental waste into each horrible simulacrum they trot out each season.

now it's not just tiktokkers making videos; it's that instagram and even fucking tumblr both think you want live feeds and video-first programming. and it helps them, because videos are easier to sneak native ads into. the books coming out all have to have 78 buzzwords in them for SEO, or otherwise they don't get published. they are making a live-action remake of moana. i haven't googled it, but there's probably another marvel or starwars something coming out, no matter when you're reading this post.

and we are like "hi, this clone of project A completely misses the point of the original. it is soulless and colorless and miserable." and the company nods and says "yes totally. here is a different clone, but special." and we look at clone 2 and we say "nope, this one is still flat and bad, y'all" and they're like "no, totally, we hear you," and then they make another clone but this time it's, like, a joyless prequel. and by the time they've successfully rolled out "clone 89", the market is incredibly oversaturated, and the consumer is blamed because the company isn't turning a profit.

and like - take even something digital like the tumblr "live streaming" function i just mentioned. that has to take up server space and some amount of carbon footprint; just so this brokenass blue hellsite can roll out a feature that literally none of its userbase actually wants. the thing that's the kicker here: even something that doesn't have a physical production plant still impacts the environment.

and it all just feels like it's rolling out of control because like, you watch companies pour hundreds of thousands of dollars into a remake of a remake of something nobody wants anymore and you're like, not able to afford eggs anymore. and you tell the company that really what you want is a good story about survival and they say "okay so you mean a YA white protagonist has some kind of 'spicy' love triangle" and you're like - hey man i think you're misunderstanding the point of storytelling but they've already printed 76 versions of "city of blood and magic" and "queen of diamond rule" and spent literally millions of dollars on the movie "Candy Crush Killer: Coming to Eat You".

it's like being stuck in a room with a clown that keeps telling the same joke over and over but it's worse every time. and that would be fine but he keeps fucking charging you 6.99. and you keep being like "no, i know it made me laugh the first time, but that's because it was different and new" and the clown is just aggressively sitting there saying "well! plenty of people like my jokes! the reason you're bored of this is because maybe there's something wrong with you!"

Okay I finally figured out Comet's origin story. Long version under the cut but short version is: knuckles finally got to reunite with the surviving echidnas but they didnt want to leave their homes to live on the floating island, so an alien felt bad for him and gave him a fankid <3

Okay so to recap stc canon: Knuckles has spent his entire time on the floating island believing he is protecting it until his people return. he doesnt remember, but he used to live in the ancient echidna city with Tikal and Pachacamac, but somehow was transported 8000 years into the future (present day). This happens after Tikal briefly brings Sonic back in time to help the echidnas fight off the Drakon empire--fish-shaped aliens that discovered chaos energy (the emeralds were made by the Drakons with the echidnas' sacred emeralds, then the echidnas "stole" them back and the drakons declared war). They succeed in beating them back for this battle, but my headcanon (which ended up being p close to what Kitching supposedly planned out) is that after this battle, the drakons come back and end up wiping the echidnas out--those that arent killed are taken off mobius as prisoners/slaves. At some point, some of them are able to escape and form a sanctuary away from the drakons.

Okay now we gotta talk about the Kaamdaarns. The Kaamdaarns are alternate dimension aliens that appear in 113, 119, and 120. They are peaceful aliens with "highly advanced science" indistinguishable from magic, which they use to disable any weapons on their planet and then also to free Shorty from his cybernik suit.

so the STORY WITH COMET GOES... Kintobor helps Knuckles to identify some kind of beacon signal that appears to be coming from other echidnas. Knuckles and Sonic hop into a spaceship (tekno and porker collab) and through a dimensional portal (tekno and kintobor collab) to find the source. they find a colony of echidnas long-established on a sanctuary planet under the protection of the kaamdaarns. the reunion is pretty bittersweet for knuckles bc like. these are people 8000 years removed from his culture. there are maybe some things still in common but otherwise their lives are completely distinct from how he grew up. and after 8000 years, very few if any of them consider the floating island home more than the place they are now. even those that might be interested in going back with knuckles are wary of the risk of leaving the safety of the kaamdaarn planet and being captured by drakons. and for a bunch of ruins... it's not really worth it

so knuckles has once again lost the whole Purpose of Everything He's Done and ummm well it goes about as well as the first time that happened

so he's hanging on by a Thread but the kaamdaarn that brought him and sonic to the village--her name's haven here she is--

says "you know what will fix that? a child." and see above: her making comet. GREAT idea, i agree. i mean the thought was more like "surely there is a way for you to both stay with your friends AND with other echidnas." but same difference. anyway sonic doesnt know what kind of egg that is.

If he does end up being the culprit in a future chapter, I could definitely see his execution being Cupid themed but like,,, with guns (like love bullet. Go read love bullet. It’s good. And it’s about lesbians. Go read it.) but, I think the best possible ending to whit’s arc if he is the culprit in a future chapter, would be him finally not being passive to fate and fighting fate right at the very end. By fucking up the execution by just shooting himself at the very start.

Technically you could argue that he’s not fighting fate, just speeding it up but, I think it still counts. He skips over the whole torture segment of the execution after all.

Like, imagine the camera panning across this elaborate Cupid themed execution and the moment whit picks up the gun he decides that the best way to go would be fighting fate by *speeding it up*. Just,,, getting it over with. Imagine how pissed monotv would be. It would be amazing honestly.

I desperately want whit to be a survivor but if he does die that’s how I’d want him to go.
