yeah I really wanted to post these at some point but they're so fcuking ugly they don't deserve to be posted out in the open for all to see 💀💀

like if I were to ever post these one by one I think my dignity would take a huge blow, and that's coming from someone with a massive crater in their chest where their ribcage once was because all their self-respect got absolutely THWACKED out of their body the moment they started simping for the krang. I know I already posted this here on my improvement post but fun fact: this was the very first fanart I made this year getting back into Rise

also yes there will be commentary, I will always feel the need to explain myself when it comes to things I would greatly want to apologize for 🧍‍‍♂️

this was also in my "I have no idea how to properly color" phase, which explains why it's so monotonous compared to the colors I tend to choose now. Everything just looks so murky.... like dirty paint water.....

this was the very first time I ever actually drew Donnie right, where he didn't make me nauseous just by looking at him, and IT WAS FROM THIS WEIRD SPECIFIC ANGLE FROM SOME REASON. If I ever drew him in a way that looked good it was almost always THIS angle, especially in doodles, it was never ever Donnie actually facing front, it was just him with this weird slouch and his back turned slightly.

am I using too many of whatever "," is, listen I almost flunked English I can't punctuate for crud but I'm trying my best over here ok

this was never supposed to see the light of day, but I think this would be considered fanart of a fanart?? I saw taytei 's species swap au on pinterest before I knew who they were and decided "yk what?? yeah I'll steal it but only for me because I'm bored"

which brings me to the next few drawings

I made a joke about Donnie giving Leo his own tablet because he kept stealing it based on a very old drawing back in 2019 and it led to the idea of Leo turning into an Ipad kid, crusty screen and Ipad case in all its glory

if it wasn't obvious the background is a png of McDonald's because of course they're at McDonald's

ok, this is gonna sound so stereotypically ADHD of me but listen it makes sense lemme explain

so basically, I had a silly thought in my head that I've had for a long while about Donnie being British for no reason with no explanation as to why, it's not a headcanon it's just a funny thought I like to think about (so maybe it's an AU idk)

and I was binging Jack Whitehall (who was British) and it got to the part where he went on a schpiel on Robert Pattinson where he was talking about what it was like to go to school with him and there was this one section where he talks about being in school theatre with him.

and I thought.... "man wouldn't it be funny if that was the disaster twins..." and everything spiraled from there.

I made up this whole Yokai school they would have gone to if they didn't live in the sewers. Donnie is the head of the drama club, he always plays and casts himself as the main character in his own productions that he himself directs because he's just that good at his job. Leo joins the drama club and shows Donnie up, making him a little bit jealous. Leo is only let in because of the club members vouching for him, Which then leads to Donnie treating him poorly and casting him as a tree (SEE WERE COMING FULL CIRCLE) this obviously upsets Leo and ends up giving him more of a reason to become the center of attention, What was supposed to be a drag ended up helping Leo more than harming his chances of ruining Donnie's plans.

Everything then spirals into a competitive back and forth as to who is the better actor. It stops being about who gets to play which part and more about who comes out of this feud alive with a prestigious acting role tied to their name.

That was everything I thought about at the time though I just thought "HAHA DISASTER TWINS HIJINX" and that was it

someone send me that Donnie toy with the big head and maybe I will start writing fanfiction/JJJJJ

I had this idea of Donnie adopting a dog from Todd because it had an attitude and then the dog ended up being just as smart as him helping him solve equations and stuff and eventually it became his lab partner

yeah that paired up with the RotTMNT drama club thing I sound like I have a very weird brain we're moving on

I have to admit this because I really didn't wanna post this without a heads up but yes this is inspired by that one drawing made by h*bermen right before I even knew about what they did and I feel guilty about this one sometimes just by the sheer fact that it's even loosely associated to them :/

I have nothing to say about this one other than I suck at rendering

this drawing of the boys fighting over their childhood blankie was supposed to be a bit of a concept for a comic I wanted to make but never got around to even writing it out,

the gist of it was that the lair was starting to get a bit messy with the things they've hoarded over the last couple of years, so the turtles+splinter decided to clean everything up, managing what to throw away and what to keep

they come across a blanket that they used to have as kids (which was the same blanket from the flashback in hidden city's most wanted) The individual turtles are hesitant at first and decline wanting to keep it, but overtime they start to realize just how much they want their childhood blanket back. They start making excuses and stealing the blanket from one another, insisting that they needed it for something important, which was very much not the case.

soon everything ramps up to the point where their methods of trying to take ownership of the blanket start getting wilder and wilder and hijinx ensues, not long before everyone overtly starts fighting over it like their life depended on it at the climax of the episode.

I didn't really have a plan yet as to how it was going to end, but if I were to make something up on the spot I'd say either:

A.) it's revealed that the blanket was actually splinter's old bath towel that he doesn't use anymore, the turtles are disgusted by this and stop fighting over it. That is until the twist at the end where one of the turtles comes back for it and takes the towel for themselves when no one is around. gross.

B.) Mikey stops the fight before it gets too serious, calling him and his brothers out for acting like savages over a blanket. Soon everyone realizes that the blanket isn't important, the blanket may be of great significance to them, but their memories together will always be more important, and they can't let a simple piece of cloth tear them apart.

and then after everyone else has left and made up, turns out that it was actually Mikey's plan all along to have them stop fighting to keep the blanket for himself.

this is more of a doodle but I had to bring this one up because it's just funny to me

basically, I was drawing Leo and I had two separate layers, I drew Leo photogenically on the layer above with the deranged Leo invisible underneath, and after some time I completely forgot what I drew on the layer below and made it visible again

yeah you can imagine my soul leaving my body

this is the only non-turtle drawing in this whole post I think

okay, a bit of a backstory on this one, this was my very first actually finished RotTMNT animation. It was for a trend on TikTok not too long ago where artists would be drawing a character and the character would move to let the artist continue drawing them

This one animation has single-handedly given me so much clout, like holy crap it's literally at 5M views now and it scares me a little 😭😭

Long time no post

HEYA I’ve been silent for like. 3 months OOP so I wanna talk about why that has been and what I wanna do with this account in the future.

(TLDR at the end of the post)

I originally made this account for Megamind posts only and the reason I’ve gone silent is because I’ve lost interest in it. It may seem strange to be talking about this as extensively as I am, but this obsession has been more than just a phase to me, it’s almost felt like a relationship. Which is why I don’t wanna leave it behind without saying anything, it feels only right to address it and talk about what it has meant to me. It’s brought me countless hours of pure joy, it’s given me a kick-start for commission work, it reignited my passion for drawing unlike anything else, it’s introduced me to the kindest community I’ve ever met, including someone I consider to be a potential lifetime-long friend. Those are the main things but I could go on and on about all the other tiny wonders that came with it. But as far as my interests go, I tend to experience them strongly and briefly, so no obsession lasts, and when I got terribly sucked into Megamind, I knew that I’d fall out of it someday. The obsession has been fading since November, the announcement of the sequel show reignited it, but then some personal circumstances in April finally completely pushed me out of it.

But I am grateful, I’m happy for all the good things that this wonderful movie has brought to my life, and I’m especially happy that I still love it. The obsessive part is over but Megamind will forever hold a very special place in my heart bc loving this movie has been unlike anything I’ve experienced before. But this isn’t a sappy ‘Goodbye Megamind’ post as much as it is a sappy ‘See you later alligator (Megamind)’ post bc I assume I’m gonna come back to it once the show comes out ;>

Which brings me to the next reason this post exists, the future of this account. I originally intended this to be a Megamind only account and keep it as an archive of my obsession even after I’d move on, but truth be told, I really really don’t feel like making and growing another account x_x So, as it is, from now on, non-Megamind art will be posted here as well.

Thank you for all the love you’ve given my fanart, after years of focusing on OC content and getting barely any feedback, I’d forgotten how awesome it is to see how happy your art can make people :D So again, thank you, I really really appreciate it <33

TLDR:

- I’ve lost the passion fuelling my insane Megamind obsession, which means (probably) no more Megamind posting and fanart, at least until the show comes out.

- Despite originally creating this account to be exclusively Megamind focused, I’ve decided to use it as my main Tumblr art account. Going forward, expect other art as well.

🌎What If... Zombies?🌎 Review and Questions (!!Spoilers, DUH!!)

1. I am not a a fan of Zombie movies or TV shows, so I was expecting to hate it. I was wrong. Honestly, I prefer this episode over all the others.

2. I just would like to point out that the creator's were like, "Zombies? That's not dark. But a Spider eating Spider-Man? Now that's dark." Like, what? Really? I would put those two things in the same category.

3. Let's appreciate that from everyone from the squad; it wasn't Scott, it wasn't Luis, it wasn't Dave, that survived- but Kurt. Kurt survived. And somehow that's very accurate.

4. Once again, I loved the dialogue in this episode.

5. If the cloak of levitation doesn't go around Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, I'm going to feel cheated. Now.

6. Peter Parker- no matter what the universe, clearly- is a ray of sunshine and hope.

7. Bruce Banner in Sorcerer clothing? Eh. Wong and Strange as zombies? 😭

7a. Also- how did Tony Stark get infected, if he had his whole body covered in metal?

8. T'Challa. 😭

9. Let's also appreciate the squad that all survived which is/was: Hope, Okoye, Peter Parker, Happy, Kurt, Sharon, and Bucky.

9a. Let's appreciate that Happy also kept saying; "Blam!"

10. Also- Sharon was second. And I feel like that's accurate.

11. I forgot the very accurate survival video Peter made. And the fact that Bucky was in the shower and somehow okay with that. 🤣🤣

12. Basically, if the Avengers are to officially go down, Hank Pym has to do it. I forgot to mention that earlier.

13. No, really it doesn't make sense that just because Vision has the mind stone and is an android, he wasn't affected, but Tony Stark was. I'm kinda pissed at that.

14. Sam getting sliced in half by Okoye, and then Bucky saying; "I should be sad, but I'm not." Describes their friendship perfectly.

14a. Bucky saying; "Sorry pal, I guess this is the end of the line." is poetic justice, considering the ending is setting up Zombie Apocalypse Infinity War.

15. Marvel is either telling us love is stronger than grief or grief is stronger than love, in this phase and I can't tell which.

16. "It's not risk. It's hope."

17. "My aunt May says- used to say, that if we don't keep smiling when they can't then we might as well just be gone, too." Aunt May is an Avenger. Change my mind.

18. Peter mentioning how many people he has lost and including Happy is honestly heart breaking.

19. "Baba Yaga" being of Kurt's last words is also poetic justice.

20. Scott using dad jokes is the best. Also- for some reason all I could think was Megamind. Don't judge me.

21. Sacrifice for the greater good. That's what heroes do.

22. Just really kinda disappointed that Deadpool wasn't in this episode, thinking about that.

23. T'Challa 🤩🙂😍😭

24. "I just... I... I... really, I don't think I can lose another friend today." "So...avenge us."

24a. Because even heroes need somebody to believe in them.

25. "In my culture, death is not the end. They are still with us, as long as we do not forget them."

26. Over all, knowing that Peter Parker, Scott Lang, and T'Challa are all the universe has- with maybe the guardians, I think the earth will be okay. Even with Thanos.

What movie are you looking forward to coming out the most?

Hmmmm Ant Man 3? Though tbh I'm not even sure when that's happening. Next year, I think? Weary as I am with the mcu right now I am still looking forward to an update on my wacky heist family.

A disappointing film from your favorite actor?

I don't tend to watch things for specific actors, but for a while I was going through a Colin Hanks phase and watched The House Bunny, and that one was not even enjoyably bad. :( I love a dumb fun movie!! But alas, all the actually funny parts were in the trailer.

Though I do still say HARMONYYY occasionally and nobody knows what tf I'm doing. But that is also in the trailer.

A movie that changed the way you view the world?

The Parent Trap ruined me, because as an only child obsessed with the idea of twins, introducing to me the concept that it could still happen was just a huge mistake. XD

9 year old me to my completely not divorced parents: SEND ME TO CAMP

Still a great movie though.

Movie you completely nerd-out over every time it’s mentioned?

I cannot be normal about Megamind I have seen it eleven million times and it will activate me like a sleeper agent.

Favorite remake of an old movie?

It's gotta be You've Got Mail. Shop Around the Corner was charming enough (Jimmy 😍), bu. t they took a great concept and updated it and made such a lovely little 90s time capsule of a movie.

That’s when I learned a very hard lesson. Good receives all the praise and adulation, while evil is sent to quiet time in the corner. So fitting in wasn’t really an option.

MEGAMIND: Some days, it felt like it was just me and Minion against the world.

Ahhh I forgot to answer this! Though with the new addition to my polyam relationship with the presence of Magnolia, let’s answer them~!

3. How do they celebrate the holidays? What are the favorite holidays in the household for each person? Are there ever any disagreements about which holiday is the best? Do any of them go all out with decorations and participation in events? Does anyone ever suffer in silent agony that they’re being forced into holiday sweaters or fed too many holiday foods, but out of love they keep their mouth shut?

Generally, everyone enjoys whatever holidays come around, so there’s not much of disagreements to most things since everyone seems to be on the same wavelength on it.

6. The mess that is deciding where to eat out and what to order.

Generally every one of them (and also the rest of the family) are very well-aware how much of a picky eater I am, so we have a small general pool of places we can eat at.

For the most part, it’s not much of a mess despite how big our group is. Most peeps are happy with ordering what they want and such since money is never an issue if we ever eat out, which is a pretty good thing but it’s one of the fortunate things of being a reality bending entity.

8. They take a trip to the zoo. What is each person’s favorite animal, and who gets excited about seeing theirs? Who downplays it? Who is willing to wait while the other drags everyone off to their favorite animals, and who tries to tell everyone they’re going to stick to the set path from beginning to end, and everyone will get to see their favorites soon so calm down?

Hmm, we really haven’t went to a zoo yet, but we did go to an aquarium?

I’d imagine that Raze, Magnolia, Oracion and I will be more of the excited to see SO MANY ANIMALS HOLY SHIT ALL OF THEM ARE MY FAVORITE LETS GO SEE SOME MORE GUYS COME ON LETS GO.

The others would happily trail behind and hold our hands even if we’re just raring to go. You get to enjoy looking at the animals if you slow down–holy shit is that a cuttlefish?

Though most would be pretty excited to go and see all the animals and take lots of pictures and spout out some random facts if we can remember any of them haha~

11. Who steals everyone else’s clothing? Who can’t tell their own clothing from other people’s anymore?

Oh man, Megamind had or currently still has that phase of stealing others’ clothing.

He seems to like Gwyn’s and Rick’s collection the most since lots of them have jumpers and sweaters that suit him, though he also likes Dagny’s clothing since there’s a lot of leather and it’s also comfortable and very stylish. He also steals my hoodies if he likes their designs and so I duplicate them to his size so we can be twinsies.

But for the most part, everyone seems to steal from each other and now there’s a blend of things and not everyone really cares whose are whose.

13. Who is the warmest to cuddle with? Who is always cold? Who wants the heater up, who wants the heater down, who wants to save money but is cold as fuck and piles under layers of clothing and blankets in the house? Who dies in summer? Who wants to turn up the AC and wait out until winter?

After Rose’s ascension to godhood, it seems she’s more of the cold side along side Raze, Megamind and Oracion.

Rick, Gwyn, Dagny, Magnolia and I are more on the hot side of things, and I always suffer when it comes to summer though I try to do my best and avoid the AC unless it’s really goddamn hot that even the fan doesn’t suffice.

Though for the most part, lots of cuddles, with everyone trying to even things out when it comes to each other natural body tempt haha~

ooooooooh this is gonna be tough!

alright, so this list changes a lot so imma do my current one

1. (predictably) The Hunchback of Notre Dame (disney). It strays from the original source a lot, as many disney movies do, but its still a really powerful film imo. Not to mention the music is phenomenal, and the animation! THE ANIMATION!!!! the use of color and contrast between light and dark, the way they seamlessly incorporate cgi crowds into traditionally animated scenes???? you cant even tell because of their use of line of direction its just???? so fucking good omg

2. Prince of Egypt (dreamworks). This is a constant in my top five because its honestly a masterpiece. The range of art styles used as a mean of story telling and not to mention the music. OMG “through heaven’s eyes” is honestly such a powerful song its gotten me through some tough times. I’m not a religious person in the least, i don’t subscribe to a god or even a spiritual pathway, but being reminded of perspective when it comes to who we are, it’s important to me, because I can get so stuck in my head i forget to take a step back.

3. Moana. The message of you being who you are, despite what anyone tells you you are. That you are not what people want you to be. You are what you want to be. I’ve had many issues with identity, at one point in time, my own brother said that I wasnt even a person. the concept of Who I Am is so fragile to me. I have spent my life being confused about who i was, what I am meant to be, but when I started to figure it out, who i knew i was was cast aside. “are you sure” “its a phase” “youll get over it” “greedy” “liar” “inconvenience”. it HURT, so much. so i latched on to anything that gave me hope, that I am who I am, and gave me the resolve to not let anyone else dictate who I got to be

4. This is gonna be a total 180 but I really love Megamind? Like, its so funny and a great spin on “the bad guy isnt that bad of a guy”. Like, there’s so much to love about the movie, roxanne for one? honestly i love her so much? like shes so strong but also allows herself to feel and i love her. And megamind and minion’s relationship is pure gold, what a good movie

5. Dead Poet’s Society. I’m a huge Robin William’s fan. Especially in this movie. its been a while since I’ve watched it, but I have so many fond memory. Its one of the movies i’ll often watch with my dad. And I suppose this one also has the message of allowing yourself to be who you are, but with a much sadder ending. I suppose, this ending is what i fear for myself. That i wont be able to take it anymore, being denied to be myself. I always cry at the end. I’m always moved. I’m happy though, that even for a little while, these boys had someone to support them in what THEY wanted. Who taught them the sweetness of life, to enjoy it. And, honestly, what an iconic scene. “Oh Captain, my Captain.”

Safe If We Stand Close Together: Safety Instructions Not Included (chapter 7)

The Roxanne and Megamind are friends as children AU.

There aren’t any guidelines for being best friends with an alien, no map key, no index, no safety instructions.

Roxanne tries, so very hard, to get it right in spite of this.

Syx and Roxanne linger outside the doorway of the classroom that day after school until everyone but Miss Anderson is gone.

As the last of their classmates disappears down the hallway, Roxanne glances over at Syx. He looks pale, but when his eyes meet hers, he nods.

Roxanne takes his hand and gives it a quick squeeze, then lets go of him and ducks back into the classroom, leaving Syx hidden in the hall.

Miss Anderson is at her desk, sorting through papers; she looks up when Roxanne comes in.

“I just wanted,” Roxanne says, moving to Miss Anderson’s desk, “to say thank you. For letting Syx do the demonstration with the Read-Write today. At our old school…” she trails off, making a face.

“You both had a rather rough time of it there, it seems,” Miss Anderson says with a sympathetic smile.

“Yes,” Roxanne says. “Especially Syx. Miss Simmons—she didn’t treat him like a person.”

Miss Anderson frowns, her head tilting slightly; she clearly doesn’t completely understand.

“Because he doesn’t look human,” Roxanne says. “She didn’t treat him like a person because he doesn’t look human. She called him ‘it’.”

Miss Anderson sucks in a sharp breath, looking horrified. She shakes her head—a small movement, more an expression of abhorrence, rather than disbelief, Roxanne is pretty sure. For a small moment, her mouth works as though she might say something.

“And she’s not the only one,” Roxanne says, before she can. “When Syx was little, a bunch of people from a government lab tried to get him classified as non-sentient.”

Miss Anderson looks pale, and rather as if she might be sick.

“They said he was like a parrot,” Roxanne says. “Some kind of—a trained animal. They made him take tests. There was a hearing and everything before the judge finally said he was sentient.”

“I’m so sorry,” Miss Anderson says faintly.

“Yes,” Roxanne says. “Well—Syx did fine with the tests, of course, but—that’s why Syx is so worried about his brother. Because—reading and stuff like that doesn’t come easy to him, the way it does Syx, and what if he doesn’t do so good on the tests?”

“Oh,” Miss Anderson says, “but—if Syx has already been classified as sentient, then surely his brother—”

“They’re not blood relatives,” Roxanne says. “And he isn’t the same species as Syx. He looks less like humans than Syx does. That’s why he doesn’t go to school.”

“—I’m so sorry," Miss Anderson says again.

Roxanne swallows.

“Yeah,” she says. “Me, too. They turned in his brother’s sentience paperwork, but it’s going to take a while. And his brother really wants to go to school.”

Again, Miss Anderson seems to be trying to find the words to say. Syx, though, comes into the room now, just as he and Roxanne planned.

“Roxanne?” he says, hovering in the doorway. “The bus is going to be leaving soon.”

“Right, sorry,” Roxanne says. She puts on her backpack and starts to walk to the door. “I was just—we were talking about the Read-Write, and your brother’s paperwork.”

(it’s important that Miss Anderson knows Roxanne’s not telling her this behind Syx’s back)

Syx makes a noise of understanding, and nods.

“I hope your brother’s paperwork gets approved very soon, Syx,” Miss Anderson says. “I look forward to him joining us here at school.”

“Yes,” Syx says, and bites his lip. “If he does get to come to sh—school—would you let him use the Read-Write for class?”

Miss Anderson blinks.

“I certainly would,” she says slowly. “And—your brother…it sounds as if he has some form of dyslexia? The Read-Write is an assistive technology device. Schools are legally required to allow students with disabilities to use their assistive technology devices.”

The sheer and utter relief on Syx’s face is almost painful to look at.

“Thank you,” he breathes.

“You really should patent the device, you know, Syx,” Miss Anderson says, “it’s quite amazing; I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Syx looks as if Roxanne could knock him over with a feather. She takes his hand; he glances down at their joined hands, then up at her face.

“—ah!” he says, “I—yes, right; we should—the bus—”

Roxanne leads him to the door, and out into the hall.

“So?” she says in an undertone. “That went good, right?”

“Yes,” Syx says dazedly. “Yes, it did.”

Roxanne squeezes his hand. He gives a breathless kind of laugh, shakes his head, and squeezes back.

“Phase two of the plan tomorrow,” he says.

“If Minion is ready,” Roxanne agrees as the very impatient bus driver motions them onto the bus.

“I wonder if you could adapt the Read-Write for other people,” Roxanne says thoughtfully, as the bus pulls out of the school driveway.

Syx looks at her questioningly.

“Like—the scan part of it, instead of having it in cursive, you could have it in bigger print, for people who have trouble seeing. Or if you added a voice to it, then it could read it out loud to you…”

Syx’s face lights up.

“Oooh, I like that!” he says. “What else?”

“Oh—” Roxanne frowns, considering. “Well, you could—”

The next day, Syx’s backpack looks very full again, and he puts it very carefully on his lap when he sits down next to Roxanne on the bus. Roxanne looks at him sharply and he nods.

She gulps, her stomach flipping over with nerves.

Syx tightens his hold on the backpack tightly. Roxanne puts her hand on top of his and takes a deep breath.

Okay.

Okay, they can do this.

They can do this.

Roxanne’s nerves wind themselves tighter and tighter; by the time the lunch bell rings, she’s almost ready to scream. And if she’s feeling like this, she can’t imagine how Syx must feel.

The other kids file out the door and into the hall; Roxanne and Syx move aside into the Science Corner and wait for them to go. Miss Anderson, seeing them waiting, looks at them questioningly.

“Miss-Anderson-may-we-please-talk-to-you-about-something-important,” Syx says, words running together.

Miss Anderson blinks.

“Yes, of course,” she says.

“Is it okay if I close the door?” Roxanne asks. “It’s—we don’t want anyone else to overhear.”

“All right,” Miss Anderson says slowly.

Roxanne closes the door and goes back to stand beside Syx.

“You remember we told you about Syx’s brother,” Roxanne says.

“Of course, yes,” Miss Anderson says.

Roxanne glances at Syx; he’s looking pale again, and clutching his backpack so tightly his knuckles have turned white.

“You remember the first day of shool,” Syx says.

(he doesn’t even try to pronounce the word correctly; Roxanne can tell he’s fighting simply to get the words out.)

“You remember—what you told me,” he says, voice tight, “about show and tell.”

Roxanne shifts her weight so that she’s closer to Syx, presses their shoulders together. He takes a quick, uneven breath and, like he’s tearing off a bandage, unzips his backpack.

“I’d like you to meet my brother,” he says. “Minion.”

Minion squints slightly when Syx takes his sphere out of the backpack—adjusting to the light after the darkness of being inside the bag. His eyes meet Roxanne’s, and she gives him the most reassuring smile she can. Minion turns towards Miss Anderson.

“um—hello,” he says, voice nervous. “It’s, uh, it’s nice to meet you.”

Miss Anderson’s eyes go very wide.

“Oh,” she says faintly, “oh.”

She swallows hard, shakes her head.

“—and I assumed you were a pet,” she says, “I am so sorry.”

Minion flutters his fins in a surprised motion..

“Oh,” he says. “That’s—thank you?”

Syx puts his ball down on the desk.

“But, really,” Minion says, “we were—I do pretend to be a pet mostly; we figured it would be safer, but—”

He hesitates, and rolls the ball so he can glance at Syx, who touches the tips of his fingers, quick and light, to the sphere. Then Minion looks again at Miss Anderson.

“—but I want to stop doing that now,” he says. “I want—I want to go to school with Sir and Miss Roxanne.”

This time, when he rolls the ball, it’s Roxanne Minion glances at. She touches her fingertips to the glass the same way Syx did.

“And we thought,” Roxanne says, “that maybe you would help us make that happen.”

Miss Anderson swallows visibly, and then she nods.

“Yes,” she says, “yes, of course, I will.”

Beside Roxanne, Syx lets out a shuddery breath, the tense line of his shoulders relaxing. Roxanne takes his hand and holds it tightly.

“Oh,” he says, sounding near tears. “Oh.”

He can’t seem to say anything else.

Things do get a bit—messy—after that, but, then, they always knew that was going to happen if they used the plan.

Miss Anderson has Minion rest on her desk until the end of school, and then she asks Syx to stay after school. She doesn’t ask Roxanne to stay, too, but she doesn’t seem surprised when Roxanne does.

And then the phone calls start—first Miss Anderson calls the office and has the superintendent, principal, and the school’s special education teacher all come to her classroom, and then she calls the Warden and Dr. Kelley, and they both come down to the school.

The Warden is glowering and gnawing at his mustache, and Dr. Kelley looks—well, Roxanne always thought that hopping mad was just a weird thing that people said, but Dr. Kelley looks mad enough to start hopping at any moment.

The adults all send Syx, Minion, and Roxanne out into the hall, close the door, and argue. Luckily, the classroom door is thin enough that when Roxanne tries to eavesdrop, this time she’s able to hear some of it.

“—even without citizenship and sentience documentation—”

“—legally required not to share that information about our students, Dr. Kelley; they’d have to have a warrant—”

“—called an Individualized Education Program; all children who receive special education will—”

“—wanting to speak to you concerning Syx as well; he’s very gifted; an IEP for him would—”

Roxanne doesn’t hear who it is who decides to call her dad, and she’s not completely sure if he’s there as her dad or as a lawyer.

By then, the whole thing’s gone on long enough that it’s almost time for Roxanne’s mother to be home from work, so Roxanne’s dad calls her, and she comes down to the school, too, and joins in the—by now very heated—discussion. Roxanne’s still out in the hall with Syx and Minion, but they can all hear the upraised voices.

Eventually, it’s over, and the adults all come out into the hall. Roxanne’s mother takes her wrist in a very tight grip.

“Does Minion get to go to school?” Roxanne blurts out, as he mother starts to walk quickly down the hall.

Her mother doesn’t answer, so she glances back at the rest of them. She catches Miss Anderson’s eye, and Miss Anderson gives her a very small nod.

Roxanne grins and lets her mother pull her the rest of the way down the hallway.

Not even her mother’s angry lecture, after they get home, about respecting authority figures and not interfering with Syx and Minion’s parents, can’t dampen Roxanne’s spirits. She doesn’t even try to argue, but just lets her mother go on until she’s finished.

Even when her mother insists that she write the Warden and Dr. Kelley each an apology note, Roxanne doesn’t argue.

The notes she writes are as full of lies as the apology note her parents once made her write to Miss Simmons, but she writes them with a light heart.

The next day, Minion, wearing his robotic suit, stands at the front of the classroom and introduces himself.

Miss Anderson writes his name on the board—in print, first, and then after that she writes it again in cursive.

And then Minion sits down at his own desk.

“I’m grounded for a month,” Roxanne tells Syx, grinning.

“Oh, us, too!” Syx says happily, and Roxanne laughs.

Her mother drives her to the prison after she gets home from work, and marches Roxanne up to the Warden’s office. She hovers angrily in the doorway as Roxanne hands the apology note to him.

His eyebrows go up when he takes it, and his mustache moves thoughtfully, as if he might speak. Finally, though, he just nods.

So Roxanne takes that as her cue to leave, and to let her mother march her down to Dr. Kelley’s office.

Dr. Kelley’s eyebrows snap down when he takes the letter, and he actually reads the whole thing in front of her.

Then he looks up at her, wearing that expression of sardonic amusement.

“You,” he says, “didn’t mean a damn word of this, did you?”

Roxanne hesitates only a moment.

“No,” she says honestly, “I didn’t.”

Behind her, in the doorway, her mother makes an angry noise.

Dr. Kelley glowers at her silently for a long moment.

Then lips twitch, and, to Roxanne’s surprise, he suddenly bursts out laughing.

“Oh, go away, you awful child!” Dr. Kelley covers his face with one hand and waves her out the door.

After Roxanne, Syx, and Minion are all finally un-grounded, Roxanne helps Syx work on creating additional assistive technology features for the Read-Write.

When Syx patents it two months later, he puts her name down on the form as co-creator, and refuses to listen when she tries to convince him to take it off.

Minion does get one of those things the adults were talking about, an IEP. He’s still able to stay in their classroom with them most of the time, but sometimes he goes to see the special education teacher for help with reading and writing. And he’s allowed to use the Read-Write, which really is helpful.

Syx gets one of the IEP things, too; him being allowed to work on other things after he’s finished with his classroom work is one of the things that gets written into his.

Minion is very popular with the other kids—and with the parents of the other kids, too, although it usually takes the adults a little longer to get past the whole fish-and-prosthetic-suit thing than it did the kids.

A month after Minion joins their class, Gary tells them excitedly at lunch that his parents finally are going to let him be in special ed for math.

“They said they didn’t want me getting made fun of,” Gary says, waving a french fry, “but I told them Minion is in special ed, and nobody makes fun of Minion!”

Gary and Minion also join a extra tutoring group for children with learning disabilities at the community center.

When Syx and Roxanne make several more Read-Writes with various experimental features, Minion gives them to the other members of the group so that they can test the devices and suggest improvements.

Minion’s sentience and citizenship paperwork is approved that summer.

Nobody even attempts to contest his sentience.

Roxanne, wearing a nice dress and new shoes that pinch her feet, sits beside Syx during the hearing, holding his hand tightly. When the judge signs the papers, they both jump to their feet excitedly, bouncing up and down and hugging each other.

“Yes! Yes! Yes!” Roxanne says, as Syx laughs joyfully.

“Sir! Miss Roxanne!”

Minion, robotic suit clanking, moves swiftly towards them, and the two of them pull him into the hug.

No, I don’t think that. As a trans individual who enjoys a variety of genderbending things, I do not think that at all.

I mention that I, myself, am trans, because I read the post you suggested, and the OP says that a cisgender person expressing an opinion that disagrees with their view is unqualified to do so, which– it is important not to let the experiences of a minority group be defined by people who are not members of the minority group, yes, but on the other hand–well, that sounds a bit like ‘out yourself or be invalid’…maybe there isn’t a perfect way of looking at that particular side-debate.

The OP of that post also says that this type of story “gives fans yet another excuse to ignore female characters in favor of focusing on their male faves.” Which rather smacks of You Are Not Allowed To Like What You Like; Eat Your Vegetables; Mother Knows Best.

Fandom’s supposed to be fun, remember? You’re allowed to like whatever characters you like. You’re allowed to like whatever stories you like.

I’m getting a lot of purity police vibes, with that post. A lot of You Are Bad And You Should Feel Bad.

I say again: no, I do not believe, as a trans person, that genderbends inherently perpetuate cissexism. Can there be cissexism in a genderbend story? Yes. There can also be biphobia in a slash story; that doesn’t mean all slash is inherently biphobic.

Now–the first thing to do, I think, is to define what, exactly, ‘genderbending’ is. It actually covers a fairly wide range of narratives. We will divide them into story types. Then we can discuss them, and the OP’s issues with them.

TYPE A: Character X is presumed to be cis male in canon. In the fic, they are presented as cis female. OR Character X is presumed to be cis female in canon, and in the fic, they are presented as cis male.

Example: my fic, Harriet Potter Is.

This story type is what people are usually talking about when they talk about genderbends. They are also sometimes referred to as girl!CharacterName or boy!CharacterName.

Obviously, the language here is not ideal–the conflation of sex and gender is not good.

AO3 offers a tagging option that I think works better, and does not conflate the two concepts. #Alternate Universe: Always a Different Sex #Alternate Universe: Gender Changes. The separate tags makes the point that they are separate issues.

(Really, I think the language we use to talk about this story type is going in this direction. The word ‘genderbend’ honestly seems less popular in general, these days, and I think it’s gradually phasing out.)

TYPE B: Character X is presumed cis male in canon and, in the fic, wakes up one morning in a afab version of their own body. OR Character X is presumed cis female in canon and in the fic wakes up in an amab version of their own body.

Example: An Ever Fixed Mark by elsepthdixon (avengers comics-verse)

This story type is sometimes referred to as genderswap or sexswap and sometimes as genderbend.

TYPE C: Character X is widely presumed cis male in canon. In the fic, they are a trans man. OR Character X is widely presumed cis female in canon. In the fic, they are a trans woman.

Example One: Liminal Paraphilia by dontdierob (Rogue One, Cassian is a trans guy)

Example Two: my fic, Fit Together (Megamind, Roxanne is a trans woman)

Example Three: the Bulletproof series (RocknRolla, Johnny is a trans guy)

I give multiple examples of this type because the OP of that post says they’ve never seen any stories like this.

TYPE D: Character X is widely presumed cis male in canon. In the fic, they are trans female. OR Character X is widely presumed cis female in canon and in the fic they are trans male. OR Character X is widely presumed to be cis anything, and in the fic they are nonbinary.

Example One: Only She, Who Is Beautiful (anonymous fill on disney kink meme, Beauty and the Beast, Gaston is a trans woman)

Example Two: my fic, Fit Together (Megamind is a demiguy)

Example Three: my fic, Code: Safeword (again, Megamind is a demiguy)

Example Four: You Called Her Dot by Dibsanddabs (avengers movie-verse, Steve is nonbinary.)

Now, I understand if you dislike Type A. I understand if you feel uncomfortable with reading these stories. But as a young trans person just beginning to question my assigned gender identity, reading Type A stories gave me a vital tool to do so.

I was able to think to pretend I was writing one of those stories about me. How would I have been different if I had been presumed by society to be a boy? Would I still be me?

I would still be me, but society would have treated me differently. And as I wrote this story in my head, this story about me-as-a-boy, I began to realize that I did not fit in the original story. I did not fit the me-as-a-girl, supposedly ‘canon’ version. It wasn’t right.

The me-as-a-boy story wasn’t quite right, either, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t need to tell it to myself.

The best and most necessary Type A stories are, I believe, about recognizing that society treats people differently based on their apparent gender. And they help show how gender is, at least in part, a construct–it’s something that develops, that grows, in a person. And part of the way that it develops is through ‘gendered’ interaction with society.

Often a person doesn’t question the gender that society has assigned them because it simply never occurs to them that they can do so, that it’s allowed, that they can still be them, even if it turns out they’re not the gender they were assigned.

Reading Type A #AU: Always a Different Sex #AU: Gender Changes stories lets these people know that it’s okay to think about their gender.

By questioning a character’s gender, a fic author can inspire a reader to feel able to question their own gender.

It did me.

Sometimes you aren’t ready to start with a Character X is Trans story–it can feel too much like admitting you might be trans and that can be a scary thing.

Sometimes we need Type A stories to take us there the long way around.

Like I said, I understand if you don’t like Type A stories and don’t want to read them. You don’t have to. I happen to dislike Type B stories; they creep me out. That doesn’t mean that they’re inherently bad, or even inherently creepy, though! Just because it’s true for me doesn’t mean it’s true across the board.

I don’t read Type B stories, but that doesn’t mean that other people aren’t allowed to enjoy Type B stories, or that they should feel obligated to publicly Confess Their Sins And Admit They Are Problematic for enjoying them, as the OP of that post seems to be saying people who enjoy Type A stories should do.

The OP seems to think that people should only feel allowed to write Type C and Type D stories–there’s that ‘you are bad and you should feel bad’ thing going on–the puritanical purity thing. Ew.

Your OP claims that “ ‘Genderbending’ does harm trans people.”

I say in response: labeling the genderbending narrative as inherently cissexist and transphobic takes a vital tool for self-understanding out of the hands of trans people–like me–and replaces them with nothing but guilt and shame and silence.

That harms trans people.
