What have been your favorite ships to obsess about this year? 🤔

okay so this year has been 95% the Kirk/Spock of One Man, as is right as it is my big project, but I have also had my moments getting too into some other ones!

I wrote there is water at the bottom of the ocean for Threshold day this year and that basically made me a Janeway/Paris shipper, which I hadn't been expecting at all, and then I was even more pleased to find it was originally supposed to be the canon ship, before they chickened out, apparently because of the age gap. Disappointing, honestly.

This has been my Kathryn Janeway moment - being that I am rapidly approaching my 40s, finding that there already IS a captain for me, especially since I am also a newbie at being a leader, its been quite nice to be like WWKJD? And then probably not do that, because damn, there are some DECISIONS there. But it makes me think a lot about her and therefore who I ship her with, and its basically easy as ABC - anyone but Chakotay.

I was surprised at how hard I shipped Diana/47/Grey when I started writing it this year. So I've definitely been thinking about them a bunch.

And then there's the RPF - being that I was sick, I immediately started rereading specific favourite rpf fics, and once the walls start to come down I start thinking about others. you know who I mean, because we share the brainworms. So definitely thinking about Them. and writing Them. It pours out of me when it does, and I think I'm at the point where I need to be ritually RPF-let or I can't function as a normal human.

I forget what I wrote this year but I can't not talk about the rhapsorgy, which I feel like people politely ignored as it was probably too horny crack for everyone, but you know, I think it came out of me Going Through Some Things. I almost made a very significant decision at the time, and then wrote that fic instead. So, that's a thing. I realise I am being vague here but you know, exactly how the sausage is made is never sexy.

1) How many words have you written this year?

AO3 says 88,494 words, but about 16,000 of those were posted last year. I can't be arsed to do the exact math, so the ballpark is about 72,000 words. Which is pretty respectable, after years and years of writing being like pulling teeth. Finding some new fandoms last/this year really helped.

3) What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

Uhhh there's kind of two answers. I think the taste of pomegranates is the most ambitious thing I've started this year, but it's not done yet so it exists in a flux state, half real, half in my head only.

So, I'm gonna say A Guest in the House of Dreams (Nirvana in Fire, that happy ending you sometimes need for your doomed ot3), because it slotted together slowly but pretty much exactly as I had envisioned. It does contain that one infamous paragraph where I accidentally plagiarised Little Women and then spent an entire day honing one piece of dialogue to avoid said plagiarism, but even so. Maybe all the more so for all that trouble.

17) Your favorite character to write this year?

Di Feisheng from Mysterious Lotus Casebook. Perfect case of a character you think you have down in the first third of the show, and then the show simply starts unravelling him and recontextualising everything you know, until by the final episode you look at him and go, well, that was a misleading first impression.

Frustrating emotionally locked-up onion man. I'm still weeping as I peel back his layers.

(On that note, shout-out to Lucanis Dellamorte for also fitting this same general type, which is apparently now catnip to me.)

6: Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?

It was because of some excellent fandom writers that I really grew to like Blainofsky as a transformative pairing in season 6. There had been so much anger about the pairing before the season aired, it definitely managed to break all of my blacklists, but I really loved the meta and stories that fandom created after each episode exploring the whys and hows.

7: Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?

I don't think so? Glee has always been my happy place, so I've been pretty forgiving of its flaws over the years.

16: If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?

I would have given the role of Maria to Mercedes. I think having Rachel lose something that she really wanted would have been better story development for her.

25: Would you change the ending of Glee?

I wouldn't. I thought it was a pretty damn perfect send-off for my beloved perfectly imperfect show.

i care about ur ace attorney opinions! how do you feel about the recurring witnesses? [i think it was question 49 but i already forgor LMFAO]

eyyy looks like it was 49! For the most part I like em, I am very easy to win over with a cameo. But it does depend on how they pull it off, like following the rule of sequels, does the new ruin the original, or improve on it?

Yay: Adrian Andrews was probably the best one, it was kind of a relief to see her doing well, after everything. I'm always glad to see Larry and Maggie (if Larry counts as a witness then I'm counting Maggie), even if their lot in life never substantially improves, it's just nice to see them again.

Okay: Lotta is... fine, I have generally positive feelings about her, but her gimmick basically requires she never learn her lesson if you're going to see her again, so that does make her kinda frustrating.

Odd ones: Oldbag, I was so distracted by her weird spaceman outfit that it kept pulling me out of it. Why was she wearing that, was she someone not weird enough to start with, that they had to ramp it up??? 😅Also, I just replayed AA4 and Meekins showing up felt odd because uh.. I do not actually remember what case he originally showed up in😅 I definitely remembered he exists! just not from where. and I don't really have associated fond feelings about him, especially because his sound effect is really annoying, so, we could've not seen him again, that would have been fine :')))

Last song: The Beatitudes by Arvo Pärt. I'm going to be singing this with the new choir I'm joining this year and I'm VERY excited. I love Pärt and have sung a couple of his works before but never The Beatitudes.

Favorite colour: PINK! The hotter the better.

Last movie: Chicago. One of the top tier movie musicals of ALL times. Deserved every single one of its Oscars and THEN some.

Last TV show: I have not watched an actual TV show since well into last year - we've been watching a lot of cooking videos and Trixie Mattel doing weird shit on YouTube. But I think the last show we watched was Abbott Elementary, which is truly excellent.

Sweet/spicy/savoury: I love them all, but spicy does not love me back like it used to.

Relationship status: Married as heck. Yesterday was our 14 year anniversary of the day we met and later this year we'll celebrate our 4 year wedding anniversary! Time flies when your wife is very, very beautiful.

Last thing I googled: "which movie director are you quiz"

Current obsession: a couple of random NPCs from Dragon Age: The Veilguard. I wrote over 1500 words of fic yesterday, on top of the fic I've already published for these two. It's madness!

Looking forward to: some Secret Squirrel Business that I'm not talking about. But also having a city staycation next weekend as a late anniversary celebration and seeing friends, going to the art gallery, staying in a fancy hotel and eating some truly wanky food.

🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction? 

Oh, man. I couldn't even tell you when I started writing stories; it's been one of those things I've done all my life. I think my first fanfic was a really terrible self-insert YYH fic. I also got super into Harry Potter fanfic while the books were coming out. Thankfully, my writing has improved a lot since then 🤣

🍄 ⇢ share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings

Law is a control freak in most aspects of his life--except one. Luffy understands the significance of Law's vulnerability when they are together and absolutely loves taking care of him to not only show how much he loves Law but also to prove that he's worthy of Law's trust.

🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

I'm sure there's weirder stuff that I can't think of at the moment, but I've definitely looked up a lot of things about injuries, concussions, and wound treatment.

5) What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?

Huh. I actually think I didn't have a lot of expectations this year. I went into several new fandoms and wrote mainly triads after years of mostly writing a two-person juggernaut ship, so I knew there'd be less feedback in absolute terms.

That said, I am tickled that the floating clouds, no resting place (MLC, difanghua) keeps finding new readers. Apparently there was still a niche to fill with the basic "here's what I think happened immediately after the show" scenario, even when the show's been out for over a year.

11) What work took you the longest to write?

Well, I'm still writing several of them. Overall, and the days are bright red (MLC, difanghua) took me about a month of fairly intensive writing. There is also an MLC longfic I've been chipping away at, none of it is posted yet but in terms of brainspace it has occupied me the most, I think. There are some snippets of it here, though.

19) What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?

Ahhhh, I have to answer with two because they're having, well, not a brawl but a heated debate in my brain right now.

a) Li Lianhua, Fang Duobing and Di Feisheng of Mysterious Lotus Casebook, who I've written almost 50k words about but I am not nearly done. This ship got me out of a writing slump (well, I do think NiF paved the way), and I have at least the longfic and then whatever other bits are scattered around in my notebooks.

b) Davrin, Neve Gallus and Lucanis Dellamorte of Dragon Age: the Veilguard, who consumed me enough that @neekerbreeker and I now have a shared fic universe for the express purpose of making this tiny threesome happen. We started the ao3 tag. I have about 30 pages of notes and outlines for that fic series now. So, the only way is forward.
