Catch Me If You Can (10/?)

298 days. That’s how long Killian Jones was away from a baseball field. It’s less than a year, only part of a season for him, but it might as well have lasted a decade as he alternated between physical therapy and spending an excessive amount of time sitting on his couch.

But then he came back and won the World Series.

It’s something no one saw coming, and it’s certainly not something anyone who knows about his arm would predict. Now it’s a new season with new possibilities, and anything could happen. On-field reporter Emma Swan will be there to cover it all even if she is not his biggest fan right now.

Asking her out live on-air will do that.

Emma: Do you know if we’re getting food on this flight?

Killian:It’s seven thirty in the morning.

Emma: And your point? That’s breakfast time.

Emma: I usually stock up on snacks because I am a bottomless pit, but I didn’t have time to this morning. Do you have anything?

Killian: I have an apple. I can very clearly see that Rob has a box of Wheat Thins in his backpack though. You want me to smuggle some for you?

Emma: How would that even work?

Killian: Easy. I steal the box from Rob and then chunk it three rows up to you.

Emma: That won’t be obvious at all.

Killian: I’m very stealthy, love.

“It’s not even eight in the morning,” Robin groans, reaching for the lever on his seat to recline back in the very little space that they’re given. “Who in the world are you texting that much?”

“Liam,” he lies, heat rising to his cheeks. He has texted Liam this morning, but he’s most definitely not texting his brother right now. It’s a half-truth, really. “He’s trying to nail me down for some dinner plans once we get back home. I haven’t gotten to see them much lately, and he and Elsa always get antsy whenever that happens.”

“You’re pretty much their third child.”

“I feel like I’m their third child but also your second.”

“No,” Robin huffs, reaching down into his bag to grab his crackers, “that’s most definitely Will.”

“I can hear you,” Will mumbles from the seat in front of them as he stretches out and snuggles further into his pillow. Will could sleep on any plane at any time. It’s damn impressive. “And I’m not a child just because you all feel the need to baby me, Professor Jones.”

“So not a child but a baby then?” he teases.

Will sticks his middle finger up in between the seats, not even bothering to open his eyes as he murmurs, “fuck off.”

“I love you too, man.”

“Don’t worry,” Robin placates, a smirk on his face, “he’s only mean to you because he likes you.”

“That’s a load of bullshit.”

“For me, yeah, because I say things when I feel them.” Will pops his head in between the seats, his eyes widened but sleep heavy now. “But I think Emma is so pissy toward you because she does actually think you’re hot.”

Woah. Where did that even come from?

“Is that what she said?” he questions like he’s a fifteen-year-old boy worried about Chrissy Stephens liking him back and not like a grown man who knows that the woman he fancies is also interested in him.

What a world that he lives in that Emma Swan is interested in him.

That or she’s been very good at faking it for the last two weeks. God, he hopes that she hasn’t been faking it, but that seems like a hell of a lot of effort when they’ve talked nearly every day. Sometimes it’s just a few texts, a passing word in the hallway, an interview or a press conference question. Other times it’s a phone call late at night or Emma dropping by his place for an hour to eat dinner. He can tell that she’s still terrified by the whole thing, nervous energy practically radiating off of her when she first starts talking to him, but once they get into the groove of things, he believes that she feels comfortable.

Her wanting this and being willing to try is beyond his wildest dreams, and a part of him still thinks he’s going to be hit in the head with a baseball and wake up from whatever kind of concussion-induced dream that he’s under.

So much shit has gone down in his life, things from years past still haunting him, and he’s clinging to this good thing even if it’s far too early for any of that. He hasn’t done this relationship thing in a long time, and he’s still not entirely sure that’s what it is. They haven’t talked about it, and he imagines Emma is not going to be the person to bring it up first.

If ever.

They could be getting married, and she still might not want to discuss things.

Woah, woah, woah. That is thinking too far ahead for about a million different reasons. He is not going there.

Will’s eyes narrow at him, thick brows pushing together all the while Killian can practically feel Robin’s stare covering every inch of him. “Why do you care?”

He shrugs, his fingers fidgeting with the window shade to let some light in before immediately shutting that away. “I like to know what’s being said about me.”

“She’s sitting right up there. Why don’t you ask her, Professor Jones?”

“Because that sounds like a dumbass idea that will get me in all kinds of trouble.”

“It’s true,” Robin sighs. “You should not be talking to Emma Swan about anything other than baseball.”

His heart drops into his right calf at that. He didn’t know that was possible, but it is. Why would Robin think something like that?

“Why not?”

“Because you don’t want to piss her off anymore. She could flip the narrative on you so quickly that you’d get whiplash and all the sudden you’d be back to who you were four years ago.”

His defenses rise, words on the tip of his tongue at the ready to defend Emma. He doesn’t like that Robin thinks she would do that. They’ve all spent time around Emma. They know that even if she can be a little guarded, she’s got their best interests at heart. Even when they’ve screwed up, him especially, she’s never done anything to wrong them.

“That wouldn’t happen. She’s a professional. You know that. She’s not going to pull shit like that,” he says quietly, wondering how in the world he can change this conversation to something else so as not to show all of the metaphorical cards in his hands. “Can I have some of those crackers, Rob?”

Robin eyes him for a moment before handing him the box. Killian doesn’t even really want these, but he’s thankful for them as the conversation dies down and Will goes back to sleeping after under two minutes of trying and Robin keeps watching his movie, typing a long text to Carol for something having to do with Roland. He doesn’t want to pry, so he tries not to look, reluctantly eating the Wheat Thins before snapping a picture of them and sending it to Emma.

Killian: I can throw these across the plane if you’re ready to catch them.

Emma: Hit me with your best shot.

Emma: Not really.

Emma: Please don’t throw food on the plane. I saw that there are snacks in the back, and I’m going to pilfer them.

Before he knows it, he sees Emma’s blonde head rise up as she gets out of her seat and walks down the aisle past him. She doesn’t look at him, her eyes staring straight ahead, but that doesn’t keep him from looking as she sweetly asks a flight attendant for a packet of cookies. It looks like she’s learned since the last time they flew.

When she comes back toward him, he turns in his seat and goes back to flipping through the movies, pretending like he wasn’t just staring her down. Hopefully she didn’t notice that. She may like him, but everyone has their limits.

Emma: The red-headed flight attendant thinks you’re hot.

Killian: I’ve been reliably told that you think the same thing, and I care much more about that.

Emma: Who told you that?

Killian: You’re not the only one who can have sources.

Emma: At least mine are reliable.

Killian: So you don’t think I’m hot?

Emma: I didn’t say that.

Killian: I knew you thought I was sexy, Swan. You flatter a man.

Emma: Shut up and eat your Wheat Thins.

Fuck.

Fucking hell.

Small pinpricks of pain are spreading down his arm while his shoulder stings. Someone might as well be out here stabbing him with a knife. It would likely be less painful than this.

Not again.

Not tonight.

He’s been doing so well, his shoulder not bothering him, all of his physical therapy working to keep his muscles strengthening and his body in check, and then shit like this happens. There’s no way he can make it past the inning, and even if he wasn’t about to call it, he knows that Al is going to pull him off the mound in no less than three minutes with how many runs he’s giving up.

It’s…not good. They’re down 2-8 in the bottom of the fourth, and he might as well be dying out here under the Florida sunshine and the humidity that has his bones weighing twice their normal weight. Spring Training never prepares him for this when it’s this muggy outside.

He might as well be in a damn swamp. Tropicana field sounds so cheery, so pleasant, but he’s dying inside. Why the hell do teams agree to name their fields things like Tropicana and Minute Maid? How much exactly are they getting paid to suffer like that?

How much is he getting paid to suffer like this?

Taking a deep breath, he tries to focus on what’s in front of him. That’s all he can do when his body is failing him like this, and with a quick windup, he releases the ball from his grip and watches it fly right into Will’s glove.

Strike three. Byrd’s out.

Immediately, he jogs to the dugout, opening the small gate and going straight for the water cooler, gulping down a cup before pouring himself another one and covering his head to try to cool himself down. He’s so damn mad at himself for playing like this, for having a body that’s failing him when his body has always been his livelihood and the thing he maintained with precision and dedication, and all he wants is to punch every single member of the Rays even though none of them have ever actually wronged him.

Anger takes its way out in strange places.

“You’re done, Jones,” Al tells him, his voice clipped.

“Good.”

He tosses his cup to the ground in annoyance and turns to make his way to the bench, figuring he’ll suffer out here for a little while longer, only to see Emma standing with her bottom lip tugged between her teeth and her phone in her hand.

Right.

She’s sitting in the dugout with them tonight recording videos and doing fun little segments for her Instagram and Twitter, and he’s probably looked like an ass in all of them.

Because he is an ass.

“You okay?” she mouths.

He doesn’t respond with more than a shake of his head no before he’s turning away and heading toward the tunnels that will take him back to the locker room so he can get this damn shoulder massaged and have Archie yell at him once again for trying to keep all of this under wraps.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” Killian sighs into his phone as he runs the towel over his waist, drying his body as much as he can before knotting it over his hip. His brother doesn’t seem to understand that people are busy and life is busy and maybe he wants to shower for fifteen minutes simply so everyone will leave him alone.

It’s been three hours since he left the field after the game, and it’s still not enough time to let him simmer in his thoughts.

“Are you sure because you kept grimacing and – ”

“I know what happened, Liam. God, I…” He runs his hands through his damp hair, water droplets falling over his face and tracing the lines where the beginnings of a sunburn are forming. “My shoulder hurt today. You know it, and I know it. There’s no point in denying it. I just don’t want to talk about it anymore when I already got my ass handed to me by Archie and Al.”

“I’m worried about you,” Liam laments, the sound of his television in the background. The girls should be asleep by now, so it must be Elsa sitting quietly listening in to their conversation while she pretends that she isn’t. He doesn’t know why she does that when she and Liam don’t keep anything to themselves when it comes to him, their honorary third child. “You have been nothing but healthy you’re entire life, and then I convinced you to go sailing with me and – ”

“Please do not blame yourself for that accident anymore.”

“Why not? I’m the one who insisted we go on the weekend trip. I’m the one who – ”

“For fuck’s sake, Liam, it’s not your fault. The drunks who ran into us are the only people who have any kind of fault. We probably should have died that day, and we didn’t. I just got a fucked-up arm. I’ll take that over anything else. You don’t have to act like you’re my father taking responsibility for all of my actions.”

The moment he says the words, he regrets them.

How could he not?

Comparing Liam to their father is the absolute last thing that he wants to do. Liam, even with his faults and his judgmental ways, is nothing like Brennan. Brennan Jones never cared unless it benefitted himself, and Liam cares because it’s what good family does. It’s what people who love each other do.

His brother is the greatest man that he knows, and yet here he is taking all of his anger out on him because he can’t always play the sport that he loves like he used to.

“Our father never took any responsibility for our actions.”

“God,” he groans, running his hands through his hair again and yanking at the strands, “I don’t know why I said that. I just – ”

“You’re angry right now.” The way Liam says the words calmly, like they’re talking about the weather or a lunch up on the rooftop of his building, weirdly calms him down and makes his heart beat a little less erratically. “I would be angry too if the accident had kept me from doing something I love the way I had done it before. You got hurt, and I got a small scar on my knee. It’s not fair, and you can be angry. Just…don’t let that anger ruin your relationship with others.”

“I hate that you’re so wise sometimes.”

“It’s only some of the time,” Elsa pipes in, confirming his thought that she was in there simply listening in. “He’s an idiot most of the time, actually, and it drives me insane that the girls think he is the smartest man alive.”

“Hi, Els,” he laughs, opening the door to the bathroom to let some of the steam out and walking back into his hotel room. “You should really announce yourself before you start listening in on a conversation. I know you’re there.”

“Yeah, but I don’t want you to think I’m too nosy.”

Killian barks out a laugh at that because there’s no other word he could describe Elsa as other than nosy at this moment. Compassionate and kind also come to mind, but right now she’s nosy.

Shuffling through the room, he sits down at the edge of the bed, the mattress dipping down underneath his weight, and picks up the remote to turn the television if only because he wants some background noise, so he doesn’t get too lost in his own thoughts.

“You and my brother are a packaged deal, darling,” he sighs, “and Addy and Lucy. I know that you are all far too much into my business.”

“It’s only because we care, little brother.”

“Younger, you asshole.”

“Language,” Elsa scolds.

“I’m twenty-eight years old and sitting in a hotel room by myself. I think I can say the word asshole.”

“Sorry, force of habit.”

“You’re such a mom,” he groans, falling back against the mattress, his towel coming undone the slightest bit.

“I did not push those two children out of my vagina to go by any other name.”

“Oh my God, stop. I don’t like to think about how those two were created.”

“Killian, childbirth is natural.”

“I’m talking about the creating, not the delivering.”

Liam and Elsa both start coughing before their coughs turn into laughter, the two of them sputtering and bickering back and forth with each other, and he sits up on the bed and starts mindlessly flipping through the channels until he finds a Dodgers game. Why is he watching baseball when he’s trying to get away from it all?

Because it is his life.

“You know, little brother,” Liam chokes out, emphasizing the little because he is, indeed, an asshole, “if you had a girlfriend, you would probably feel more comfortable talking about sex.”

“I am perfectly comfortable talking about sex. Just not yours.”

“I know but – ”

There’s a knock at the door, and he feels like he’s saved by the bell (or the knuckles) at the sound, not really wanting to have this conversation with Liam even if he goaded them into it and if it’s more pleasant than talking about his shoulder.

“Hey, guys,” he starts, already getting up and tying his towel a little tighter around his waist, “there’s someone at my door. I have to go. I’ll call you tomorrow, yeah?”

“Let us know if you need to talk,” Elsa sighs, quietly echoed by Liam. “We love you.”

“Love you guys too.”

He hangs up the phone and places it on his dresser before crossing the room and looking through the peephole to see who is knocking on his door.

It’s Emma.

She’s standing just outside his door in an oversized white sweater and a pair of leggings, her hair pulled up in a messy bun, and he can tell by the way that she’s unable to stand still that she’s anxious. Immediately, he twists all of the locks and swings open the door, catching it before it slams into the wall.

��Swan,” he smiles, already reaching forward and tugging her inside, looking from side to side in the hallway to make sure no one is around.

“Hey, so I – ”

He stops her before she can finish her sentence, closing the door behind them and quickly dipping his head down to slide his lips over hers, just the barest hint of a touch in greeting but enough to make all of his body begin to stand at attention.

“Hi,” he whispers when he pulls back.

Emma’s lashes flutter as she looks up at him, a little redness of her cheeks. “Hi. I’m guessing you don’t mind that I dropped by then.”

“Truthfully, I’m very upset about it.”

“You’re a liar,” she laughs, adjusting the bag that she’s holding. Wow, he didn’t even notice the bag. His mind is all over the place tonight. “You’re also not wearing any clothes. Why are you not wearing any clothes?”

A shiver runs down his spine as Emma’s eyes glance over him, very obviously cataloging his body in the same way that he’s done to hers in the past. The room is more heated, the steam from the bathroom permeating into the bedroom, and he knows that it would be so damn easy to step a little bit more into Emma’s space and capture her mouth with his as his hands explored her body the way that her eyes are exploring him. It would be so damn easy to forget about the difficulties of this day, to forget about the ache in his shoulder, and let his body do all of the talking that it couldn’t do today.

He could prove that his body still works, that he can still do good with it, that he can still bring himself pleasure, bring Emma pleasure.

…but he can’t do that. Not yet.

It’s not the right time when he’s riddled in self-doubt and frustration, and even if Emma was ready, he wants to do this right. He doesn’t want to use her and his affections for her to make him forget everything for a night.

They need more time to get to know each other.

When the hell was the last time he wanted to get to know a woman well before he slept with her?

Why would he even ask himself that question when he knows the answer?

“Well, darling,” he finally sighs, backing up from her to give himself room to breathe all the while he makes sure to flash her a grin, “I did this thing called showering, and I don’t often do it with clothes.” “That’s smart. It’d probably get a little messy like that.”

“Most definitely. What’s in the bag?”

“Oh,” she gasps, her shoulders shrugging up the slightest bit as her eyes light up, the darkness turning back to light green. “So, I didn’t mean to be presumptuous or whatever by coming here, but you didn’t seem to have the best day, and I figured I would bring you, like, a snack or whatever to help you out. Then I thought maybe I could stay for a bit, but if you want to tell me to fuck off, I can be back in my room in a minute.”

How in the world does he find everything she does so charming? He was in a piss-poor mood, still is, and even though he wasn’t exceptionally friendly to her when she was doing interviews in the locker room, she’s being more than kind to him.

“Love, the absolute last thing I would do is tell you to fuck off. I’m glad you decided to come see me even if I don’t know how you know my room number.”

She winks before turning around and placing the paper bag down. “You’re not the only one who knows how to charm people to get information.”

“Apparently not. What kind of spoils have you brought me?”

“Totally ignoring the fact that you said spoils,” she laughs, pulling out a bag of salt and vinegar chips and then several snack cakes. And then one banana which doesn’t seem to fit at all. “But I raided a vending machine and also the hotel front desk for the banana, and figured maybe we could pig out a bit since I know for a fact both of us are going running tomorrow.”

“Do you have strawberry short cakes in that pile?”

He steps closer to her, and she holds up a package of Pop-Tarts, strawberry flavored. “Is this close enough?”

“Only because we’re in a pinch.” Killian takes it out of her hand, and tosses it over to the bed before picking up his bag of clothes and sliding it into the bathroom. “I’m just going to put on some pants and then we’ll – ”

There’s another knock on his door, and this time he’s not saved by the bell. He doesn’t want this conversation to end. Emma stops what she’s doing, dropping the chips she’s holding back onto the desk, and she turns to look at him with wide eyes and parted lips, panic written across all of her features.

“What do we do?” she whispers, her voice probably echoing from here all the way back up to the east coast.

“I’m just going to ignore it,” he says quietly, stepping back over to the door to look to see who it is. “Oh shit.”

“What?” Emma whispers, stepping closer only for him to hold out his arm in front of her.

There’s another knock, this time really more of a pounding, and then Ariel’s voice comes through the wood. “I know you’re in your room, Killian. Open the door.”

Emma’s eyes widen even more, and if he wasn’t currently freaking out over what to do, he’d laugh at the comic relief over the whole thing. “Get in the bathroom, love.”

She nods her head, quickly picking up the food she brought in and scrambling into the bathroom, closing the door behind her at the same time that he opens his hotel door, his hand furiously scratching at his ear.

“What, A?”

“Well, that’s a way to greet me.” She immediately moves past him and into the room, never one for understanding personal space. “Why do you have a package of Pop-Tarts on your bed?”

“I got it from the vending machine,” he lies, closing his door behind her and walking back over to his bed. “I was hungry but didn’t feel like ordering anything in. Why are you here? Where’s Eric?”

Ariel rolls her eyes and stretches out onto his bed, picking up the remote and immediately changing the TV from the game he was watching. “Believe it or not, I am capable of being in a separate space than my husband.”

“You know that’s not what I meant.”

She simply waves him away. “Whatever. I just wanted to check on you. I know you get all moody after losses, and you didn’t come join everyone for dinner. Also, can you put some clothes on while we have this conversation? I love you, but I don’t need to see every bit of you.”

“You’re the one who came barging into my room,” he groans as his mind runs through about fifteen scenarios on how to get Ariel out of his room, “but fine. I’ll go change.”

Killian steps away from his bed and walks the few steps to the bathroom door, quietly opening it up and immediately shutting it behind him in case Ariel for some reason decided to move behind him.

This is by far the weirdest thing that has happened to him this year. He’s hiding his girlfri – he’s hiding Emma in his hotel bathroom.

And she’s sitting on the countertop with her legs crossed over each other eating the bag of chips like that’s not the loudest food she could have chosen.

“What are you doing?” she hisses. Putting the chips down.

“Ariel has requested I put on some clothes.”

“But there’s no place for me to move in here so you can do that.”

Killian rolls his eyes at her flustered movements and far too loud hushed voice. It’s what has him turning on the sink before he leans forward and presses a kiss to Emma’s cheek. “I can slip my sweatpants on under my towel. I promise I’m not going to scar you.”

“You wouldn’t scar me. I just – ”

He reaches down to his bag, grabbing a pair of pants and pulling them on underneath his towel, his mind fighting with him to think of every delicious and dirty thought about having Emma in the shower, and tugs them up before dropping his towel to the ground and finding a t-shirt to wear. How is his bag so disorganized?

“What was that now, love?”

“Nothing,” she hisses, blushing. “How long am I supposed to stay in here? I’m kind of freaking out.”

“You’ve got food, water, and a bathroom. I think you’ll be good for a week or two.”

“Asshole.”

“I try.” He flashes her a grin before leaning forward and quickly gliding his lips over hers and tasting the salt and vinegar of her kiss. Damn does he love that he can do that. “I’ll try to get her to leave as soon as possible, okay? Be quiet on your chip eating.”

Emma scrunches up her nose before sticking her tongue out at him and grabbing another chip with one hand while the other turns the faucet off. He sighs, amused and exasperated all at once, before opening the bathroom door and stepping out only to find Ariel eating the Pop-Tarts.

He kind of wanted those even if there are a million better ways to consume five hundred calories.

“Why’d you turn your water on?”

“Didn’t want you to hear me pee.”

“Fair enough.” She shrugs her shoulders and pats the spot on his bed next to her. He takes the small desk chair instead. “Tell me why you’re in such a bad mood.”

“I’m not.”

“Liar.”

“I’m not a liar.”

(He is a liar.)

“Okay,” Ariel murmurs as she takes another bite, “so if you’re not in a bad mood, would you at least like to explain why you didn’t come to dinner?”

He swivels in the chair a bit, his legs antsy to tap and stay moving, but that’ll make him seem anxious to Ariel. That’s the last thing that he wants when he is, indeed, anxious for her to get out of the room.

“I – I felt like I let everyone down today,” he admits, leaving out his own self-loathing about his injury. Half-truths. He’s always speaking in half-truths. “I played a shitty game. I was in a bad mood. I was awful company and didn’t want anything to do with anyone. So, I kind of figured I’d come back here and work that out on my own instead of making everyone else miserable.”

“Killian Jones, you know for a fact that we are not miserable around you. At least Eric and I aren’t. Neither are Robin or Will or even August. The only person who would take issue with you being all pissy is Arthur and that’s because he’s got his own set of issues.”

He scoffs and closes his eyes as he stretches his legs out. She’s right. He knows that she is because she’s always right. She’s basically another version of Elsa in that aspect.

“I know. I’m…you know how I get, A. I’ll be fine. Tomorrow, I’ll come to whatever team-mandated meal you arrange.”

“That’s all I ask.” She rises from the bed, picking up the Pop-Tart she hasn’t eaten, and walks over to him to briefly press her lips against his temple. “I’m going to let you wallow, okay? But tomorrow after you’ve finished your practice, we have to talk about your calendar for the rest of May and June. I’ve got some charity stuff lined up for you.”

“I will be at your beck and call.”

“As you should be. Text me if you need anything, okay?”

“Will do.”

Ariel nods her head and smiles before walking out the door, letting it slam shut behind her. Letting out a sigh of relief, he places his face in his hands and simply takes a moment to breathe and let his mind stop racing about how horrible of a human being he is for lying to everyone.

He’s the worst, isn’t he? He has to be.

When he’s finished with his little pity party, he sits up and raises his fist to the wall, banging on it to let Emma know that she can come out of the bathroom.

The door clicks, and she emerges, flipping the locks on his door and then walking toward him, stepping into his space until he’s pulling her in by the hips to stand in the open space between his legs, his head resting against her stomach.

Maybe he’s not quite finished with his pity party.

“So,” Emma hums, her feet moving into his line of vision as her hands scratch at that back of his head, which may very well be the best fucking feeling in the world, “apparently everyone in the world knows you’re in a bad mood, and you don’t want to talk to any of us about it.”

“Do you want to talk every time you’re in a bad mood?”

“Hell no.”

“Exactly.” He leans back in the chair, the loss of her touch immediate. “I think I just…you want to watch a movie with me or something?”

“Can I pick it out?”

“Yeah, Swan, you can.”

They settle down onto the mattress, pulling the thin sheet that’s at the bottom of the bed over them instead of settling under the covers, and Emma tucks herself into his side so that her head rests on his collarbone and her hand is covering his stomach, a leg tucked between his. In all of the time they’ve spent together in the past two weeks, he thinks this is the most comfortable she’s ever been around him.

He likes it.

It’s…refreshing. He keeps thinking that, thinking about how this is so different than how he’s been the past few years. If he was with a woman, it was to sleep with her, to scratch an itch. It was not to settle down and watch Men in Black because despite insisting that she wanted to pick the movie, Emma refused to let him pay for them to rent a newer movie.

And obviously he wants to sleep with Emma, his mind racing with thoughts of what exactly that would be like to do to her, but he’s good just like this.

This is by far the best part of his day, and Florida isn’t seeming like such a hell hole anymore as his fingers play with the wisps of her hair that have fallen out of her bun and her hands toy with his mom’s ring that’s fallen outside of his t-shirt. He doesn’t even think she realizes that she’s doing it.

“The ring was my mom’s.”

Emma stops her movements, her fingers stilling, before looking up at him, her face only lightened by the glow of the television now that the sun has set, and everything is covered in darkness. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to mess with it.”

“Swan, it’s fine,” he promises, reaching down to take her hand and place it back against his chest and against the ring. He smiles a little, the left side of his lips curving up, to try to reassure her of the fact that it is fine. He doesn’t mind. “I simply figured you wanted to know why I wear a ring around my neck. Wouldn’t want you to think I’m secretly married.”

“Well, I wasn’t thinking that until right about now.”

Later. He’ll tell her about Milah later. He can already tell that he’s about to tell her too much about his family tonight. She doesn’t need to know about his ex-girlfriend too.

“I wouldn’t do that.”

“I know.” She pats his chest and readjusts herself so that she can look at him a little better. How are her eyes so green? “So, tell me about your mom. If you want to.”

“Her name was Amelia,” he starts out, scooting down a little further so that he and Emma are nearly eye to eye, “and she was just…she was amazing. I have a terrible memory, so I don’t remember much, but I remember that she had this red hair that would make Ariel jealous and this big belly laugh that kind of reminds me of Liam. I don’t – I guess I never thought about it before, but she was really into baking, which is probably why I eventually came around to it. That’s likely the only thing I got from her other than the red in my beard.”

He knows that it’s not true, that he is more like her than he’s willing to admit, but it’s not what he usually thinks about. It’s not what Liam talks about either even though he was seventeen when she died.

“How did she – ”

“Cancer,” he murmurs, tracing Emma’s pointer finger until he lifts their hands and treads his fingers through hers, squeezing their hands together. “It was very sudden, not a lot of time to say goodbye, you know?”

Emma presses forward and brushes a kiss to his knuckles. He’s sure it’s because no one ever knows what to say that, and Emma is likely no exception. “She would be so proud of you, I think. I know that’s probably overstepping my boundaries to say that, but I don’t see how anyone could not be proud of you for working so hard to achieve your dreams and for being so good to your family.”

Maybe she’s the exception then.

He’s not sure that his mom would be proud of him, not lately.

“Thank you, darling. I’m not sure if that’s true, but thank you.”

Emma’s brows pinch, her lips pursing. “How could that not be true, twenty-nine?”

Because he’s a self-loathing bastard who can never seem to bury his demons even when he needs to.

“Do you want to know part of the reason why I was in such a shitty mood today?”

He can’t tell her the full truth, but the half truth seems okay today.

“Only if you want to tell me.”

He gulps, nodding his head and inching further down to bed to tangle his legs with Emma’s and nearly brush his nose against hers. He’s twenty-eight, but there’s something akin to a childlike belief running through him that nothing can invade the quietness of this hotel room right now.

“I haven’t spoken to my father since I was nineteen years old,” he admits, bringing their hands up to rest between their chests. “That seems like a shitty thing to do when I was only down to one parent, but my dad is an asshole, you know? He was the one who signed me up to play little league ball, and every single day I was outside running or practicing my batting or pitching once I changed to that track. He pushed me so damn hard, which I always thought was a good thing, until I’d lose a game or be a minute slow on my run and he’d make me do everything all over again. I was eleven, and the man had me on a meal plan to make sure I was developing with the sole purpose of playing ball.”

He takes a breath, blinking away the tears that aren’t there but might as well be.

“He became obsessed. Completely and totally obsessed. And since Liam was long gone from the house, he was my only influence. I did what he said when he said it and played it off as it all being part of the game that I loved. But he pushed and pushed and pushed until I hated waking up every day. He screamed at me, calling me a pathetic fucker, told me that I was ruining his life by not being good enough. It was just this constant stream of hatred spewing out of his mouth, and when I got to Vandy, he started betting on my games, started taking bribes and offers and so many things that could have taken the game away from me forever. He’s a piss poor excuse for a dad, and it took me nineteen years to realize that I didn’t have to be subjected to his shit. So, I just…I cut him off. Liam and I both did. And today I – I was mad about how I played, and I took it out on Liam by saying he was not my father and some other stuff. That always kind of spirals us, and that’s why I was so annoyed when you first got here.”

That was too much.

That was far too much.

Killian should have kept his mouth shut, should have never let all of that out even if it’s skimming the surface. Emma likely already thinks he’s insane, that he’s got enough issues, and he just revealed so many more.

Good things in his life do not stay, and Emma is most definitely a good thing.

And he’s not even telling her about his arm.

“Your dad is a fucking asshole,” she spits, untangling their hands and running her palms up over the skin at his neck until she’s softly gliding her thumb underneath his eye. “I can’t imagine how much that has to mess you up in your mind. He took something you loved and twisted it. He was not what a parent should be, and you have every right to be upset about that. I’ve never met Liam, but I know that he loves you and that he understands how you tick. I’m sure he’s not mad at you for being upset with him when he understands your anger was coming from something else.”

Tell her, tell her, tell her.

His mind is screaming at him, but he can under no circumstances tell her everything. Not about Milah, not about his arm, not about all of his thoughts and feelings.

In time.

He’ll tell her in time.

They’re so early in this thing that they’re doing, and even if it’s been awhile for him, he knows that two weeks in is not the time to dumb every bit of baggage that he’s carrying.

“Thank you, love,” he sighs, closing his eyes and pressing forward to slowly guide his lips over hers, another silent thank you for simply being here. It’s nice to have someone on the road with him. Honestly and truly. “I’m sure this is not how you imagined this night going.”

“What?” Emma laughs, a tentative smile curling on her lips. “You think I didn’t come in here expecting you to tell me about your shitty dad as we watch Will Smith kill some aliens? I feel like that’s a pretty normal night.” “So this is normal for you then?”

“Staying in bed as much as possible?”

“Absolutely.”

He hums, inching closer and closer to her so that their foreheads brush together and his nose is pressing into her cheek as he speaks. “I think I’ll have to keep that in mind.”

Chapter 33

Bruce told me that Harley and Ivy could come to the wedding. He wasn't pleased, but he said they could come. I think he might ask Doctor Fate or Zatana to do something to their minds that way they don't see everyone's true identities. It was funny dress shopping. Diana wanted to be there to fill in for my mother. I had Violet, Bruce's long lost daughter, Emma, Jason's girlfriend, Harley, who was actually civilized, and Ivy, who was playing with the plants in the store.

Harley wanted a very sheer dress and a deep plunging neckline with a short skirt. Ivy said my dress should be green and look like leaves. I shook my head. Violet was the one who found my dress and the emerald green bridesmaid dresses. Granted, Diana wasn’t to happy at the fact that I brought two villain's along with us to go shopping.

After I found the dress next came making the Manor’s gardens look better. Again, I asked Ivy to help. She made the trees look full and beautiful. The orchids are in full bloom and around the area where the wedding will be held. She made everything look perfect, even the grass. I thanked her and she said she would be back the day before the wedding to make sure everything was perfect.

And here we are, my hand is tangled inside Dick’s hand with my head on his shoulder. He is watching Ivy walking around and gently talking to all the plants in the garden. “We get married tomorrow.” A gentle kiss is placed the top of my head.

I nod and sigh happily, “Come on.” I start to pull Dick to where the alter will be tomorrow. “Come on Marshmallow. Move your feet.”

He chuckles and starts walking behind me to the front. He looks up at the fairy lights in the magnolia trees above us with the magnolia flowers in full bloom. Slowly lowering his head he looks at me with a smile that makes my knees go weak. “What now, princess?”

I blush and giggle as I take both of his hands and look deeply into his blue eyes. “I, I love you. You have been there for me ever since Luthor took me. We have fought each other, fought beside each other, fought for each other. You never gave up hope. You,” I start to cry, “You never believed I was dead. You found me in Ra’s clutches and helped me escape. You are my marshmallow. That nine year old boy who sat on the rooftop of the Gotham Cathedral eating an entire of marshmallows and having a squishy stomach.” I blush and look away.

Slowly looking back into Dick’s blue eyes and seeing him cry to. “Without you, I would be lost. You are my best friend, my rock, my love, my marshmallow, and my soon to be husband. Thank you, for everything.” I take a deep breath, “I promise to love, cherish and honor you forever.”

Dick pulls me into a passionate but soft kiss. Each of his hands are on both sides of my face and our tears are intertwining as we kiss. Gently placing his forehead on mine he keeps his eyes closed as he holds me against him, “I thought we were saying our vows tomorrow?”

“I couldn’t tell you that tomorrow.” My voice is barely a whisper.

“I won’t ever let you go. I love you and i’m so gl-”

“HEY! ENOUGH ALREADY!”

We both turn our heads in the direction of the person yelling at us to see Jason, Tim, and Damian standing at the end of the aisle. Jason points at Dick, “You, you are coming with us. Duchess there gets you every day.”

Tim cuts in, “Plus, it’s bad luck to see the bride before the wedding.”

Damian rolls his eyes, “We are saying, it is time to go have a bachelor party and Kent cannot come.”

Dick sighs and hangs his head, “Give me a moment guys. I won’t see her until this time tomorrow.”

Jason rolls his eyes, “You got ten minutes before we come and pull you away.”

I giggle as I gently place my hand on Dick’s cheek, “You better be here at six o’clock tomorrow night.”

He smirks and leans down to whisper in my ear, “I’ll be here princess, but will you?”

I kiss him and slowly walk towards Ivy. Pausing I turn back and flip my long black hair, “I’ll be the one in a white dress.” With that I flip my hair again and sway my hips as I walk away and start talking to Ivy.

“Are you not going to have a party?”

I sigh gently caressing a rose bud, “Pamela, I don’t do parties. Besides, I’m staying here at the Manor tonight. He and the boys are going back to the apartment.” The rose bud blooms in my hand and I smile softly.

“It will be a beautiful wedding, Cat.”

I look at Ivy, “Thank you. You and Harley both. See you guys tomorrow.”

She nods the walks away. I look after her until she is gone in the shadows of the setting sun. “Well, time to, hmmm, I guess relax.” I smile as I walk towards the manor and see Alfred in the doorway. “Good Evening Uncle Alfred.”

“Good evening Lady Lydia. Did the gardens meet your expectations to practice for tomorrow's event?”

I blush, “You saw that?”

He nods and chuckles softly, “I am grateful that you and Master Grayson are happy together.”

“I am as well. Oh, Uncle Alfred?”

“Yes, Lady Lydia.”

“Thank you for everything.” I smile and walk away to Dick’s room inside the manor. It is going to be a long twenty four hours.

The clock says it’s ten o’clock at night and I can’t sleep. I hear Dick’s thoughts every now and then of how he is excited to marry me and how he loves me as well as he still couldn’t believe I said yes. My phone ringing cuts me away from his thoughts and into the real world. My hand darts around the bed till I find it and press the answer button. “Hello?”

“I can’t believe we are getting married tomorrow.”

I giggle at how excited Dick is, “Shouldn’t you be at your party?”

He sighs and I can tell he just laid down. “We just got back to the apartment and I wanted to hear your voice before we fell asleep.”

I turn to my side and lay the phone on my face as I cuddle on of the pillows. “It feels weird.”

“What does, princess?”

“Not being in your arms and having to concentrate on your heart beat, instead of it surrounding me.”

A rustling noise happens before he talks, “Tomorrow night. You’ll have me and my heart beat all to yourself. Besides, it only beats for you.”

I giggle softly, “Flirt.”

“For you, always.”

“Goodnight Mister Grayson.”

“Goodnight Missus Grayson, I love you.”

“Love you to.” I hang up the phone and hold it close to my chest, “I’m going to be Missus Lydia Amy Lee Grayson tomorrow.” A soft knock rings through the room. “One moment.” I call out before moving off the bed and slowly padding my way over to the bedroom door. I open the door to see Clark standing there with a small box in his hand.

“Come in.” I open the door wider and he walks in and sits on the bed. Sighing I close the door before I join him.

“Let me speak. Just hear me out, don’t interrupt me and then I’ll be out of your hair.” He pauses and looks at me with pleading eyes. I simply nod my head and he takes a deep breath. “When, when your mother died I blamed myself. You were just eight when everything happened. When Joker poisoned me and tricked me into murdering your mother.” He takes a deep breath trying to calm himself. “Lydia, I can’t change the past. I can’t take back sending you to stay with my mother because I was ashamed of myself. I can’t stop Lex from taking you. I can’t stop you from being a science experiment. I can’t go back in time and stop myself from thinking you died.” He gently places the box in my lap and slowly wraps his arms around me.

“But I can start from here. I can try harder. I can be here for you now. I know you aren’t my little girl anymore, now that you are grown and about to start a family all your own. I just wish we could be a family again. If it’s okay with you, I would, I mean your mother and I would like to walk you down the aisle tomorrow.”

I stiffen when he says mom wants to walk me down the aisle with him. Before I know it my voice comes out weak and broken, “Ho-how?”

Clark pulls away from me and slowly opens the box. He lifts up a blue garter, “I know you already have one and it’s green, but this was the one your mother wore at our wedding.” He gently places it on the bed beside me. “This,” he pulls out an anklet with a small s shield charm on it, “is her anklet that I bought her. She wore it often.” The last thing he pulls out is a small family photo. It has him, my mom and a baby in the photo.

“Th-that’s me.”

“Even though she is gone, she is always with us. She would be so proud of you, just like how I am proud of you.” He softly kisses my temple before he stands up and walks to the door.

“DADDY!” I jump up and hug him as I cry against his chest. I slowly feel his arms wrap around me as he buries his face into my neck and cries. We stay like hat for a while before I speak up, “Can you please walk me tomorrow?”

He pulls away and wipes my tears, “I would love to walk my daughter down the aisle.” He kisses my forehead and opens the door, “I’ll see you tomorrow, my little princess.” With that he walks out, closes the door and disappears.

I go back to laying on the bed when my phone rings again. “Hello?”

“I told you that you were mine. I own you and now I will make your life hell.”

Charlie just made the same “you don’t call, you don’t write” joke on John that he already pulled on Eko

It’s probably the only totally… useless John flashback. Like… we don’t really learn anything about his character that we didn��t already know. I still enjoy every second of John screentime we get but… I wish they had used this one for something else.

episode 4 – Every Man For Himself:

It’s the episode in which Ben knocks Sawyer out with his phallic baton.

I like Tom Friendly – he really lives up to his name.

I can’t believe that Jack – the only doctor the survivors have – wants to leave the island all because Kate fucked Sawyer. Sounds like something a guy would do who’d detonate a hydrogen bomb because his girlfriend left him.

Ben and John out-sassing and manipulating each other is foreplay tbh.

Unpopular opinion: I actually love Expose. It’s so… useless and dorky that it’s amazing!

That’s probably the only episode in which I can somehow understand the people who dislike Ben…. But I still love my dear rat boy!

Can you believe they thought it was a good idea to give Ben round glasses that make his eyes look even bigger than they already are? He looks like straight out of a manga.

There really is a lot of fatphobia in this episode.

ALEX AND DANIELLE MEET FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!! WELP!!!

Ben letting himself be tackled and punched by Jack is such a power move. I am 100% convinced he let it happen on purpose because it’s already canon that he can easily knock out friggin Sawyer!!!

Remember when you watched that finale for the first time and didn’t know all the time it was a flash forward and not a flashback?!?!? And then Kate steps out of that car and you were all like WOOOOAAAAHHHH?!?!?!

Remember when you didn’t know whose funeral they were talking about?!?!?!

That last scene was the first time I found Jack actually likable and relatable!

(GL/Yuri) Shoujo Heroine... and Friends Chapter 9

It’s date time for Sahana and Toyomi, and date (?) time for Masami and Kunie. Please comment your thoughts and like this chapter if you, well, like it.

Description:

Sahana is friendly, innocent and optimistic, making her the perfect shoujo anime heroine… except she’s not the main character of this story.

When school prince Toyomi asks her out, she starts hanging out with him and leaves her friends behind. Prim and proper Masami and tomboyish slob Kunie don’t seem to have much in common outside of their friendship with Sahana, but they try to make the best out of a lonely situation.

So why is the god of love and marriage watching them, red string of fate at the ready? CONTENT WARNING: Some homophobic language and bullying.

Chapter 9: That was so cool!

Sahana narrowed her eyes at the tickets in Toyomi’s hands, one eyebrow up. ‘Wrestling?’ She lifted her head, her eyes wide with apology. ‘You did mention liking that sort of thing. What date is it on?’

Toyomi gave her the date and time. ‘Would you like to come with me? I promise it’ll be fun.’ Sahana answered with an excited hug and the invisible trumpets surrounding Toyomi played a victorious tune.

‘You’re going to have to teach me everything about wrestling, starting with why you like it.’

Toyomi scratched his chin. ‘I think it’s because it’s a lot like theatre. A lot goes into making a wrestling show. You’re basically staging a bunch of action scenes except they’re live rather than in a movie, so you have to find ways to make it look and sound like a character hurt another without actually hurting them. It’s really clever what they do and the wrestlers are usually a lot of fun.’

‘Well, I guess I have something to look forward to, then.’ Sahana spotted Masami and Kunie walking to the Home Ec room and ran towards them. ‘Hey, guys!’

Kunie responded, ‘Oh, I was going to see a play this Saturday and was wondering if-’

‘I’m sorry, I can’t. Toyomi’s taking me out to wrestling. It should be fun watching a bunch of sweaty men pin each other down.’ When Kunie laughed, Sahana put on a shocked face. ‘What’s so funny?’

Toyomi finally caught up to Sahana. Between pants, he said. ‘You… don’t… need… to run… everywhere…’

Sahana bowed her apology but smirked. ‘Maybe you should get better at running.’

Kunie’s jaw dropped. An insult? Who was the Sahana that stood before her?

Sahana realised her error and chuckled awkwardly. She grabbed Toyomi by the arm and whisked him somewhere, anywhere, else.

Masami and Kunie turned to each other. ‘Mind if I go to the play with you?’ Masami asked. ‘What play is it?’

‘Well, it’s a Takarazuka musical. So yeah, it might be more suited to you than Sahana. I just haven’t hung out with her in a while so I thought it might… I’d be glad to go with you.’

Saturday night lifted its curtains and soon The two pairs were at their respective events. Let us begin with Sahana and Toyomi.

The term ‘verbal assault’ took on new meaning as Sahana stepped into the sizeable room with her hand in Toyomi’s. Her ears were hit by cheers and heckles from wrestling fans. The hype pulsed throughout her body.

She copied Toyomi’s chants and clapped along with the crowd. The first match was between Benny Beta, an American man, and Kouki Boushi, a Japanese man.

Toyomi clutched at his chest and looked like he was about to cry. Sahana put her hand on his shoulder and he smiled. He leaned in and whispered in her ear, inadvertently tickling it.

‘These two used to be a tag team but became enemies when one of them joined an evil gang. They spent so many games getting closer and closer only for that one event to shatter everything. It’s such a shame. Hopefully after this game they can go back to being friends or lovers or whatever they are.’ He turned his head until it was facing the ring. ‘Ooh, it’s starting!’

The first thing that stood out to Sahana was the booming of the wooden floor as the wrestlers fell onto it following a hit. It resounded through her core and made each attack from the wrestlers feel impactful. She could barely hear the dialogue above the crowd, but the wrestler’s moves seemed to tell a story all on their own. She remembered what Toyomi said about the wrestlers potentially being lovers and noticed a degree of sexual tension between them. She knew next to nothing about these two characters and yet all she wanted was for them to get along again.

As if the gods granted her wish, the two ended the match with a big hug, with the heel returning to the side of the face. Toyomi cheered them on.

They had to wait a while for the next match and the cheering gradually died down, giving Sahana and Toyomi an opportunity to talk.

‘So, what did you think of your first match?’ Toyomi asked.

‘That was so cool! I didn’t realise how complex the storylines were, plus the acrobatics were really impressive.’

‘Yeah, Kouki Boushi’s pretty light on his feet.’

After all the matches ended, the couple went to a nearby restaurant. They talked about wrestling while waiting for their orders but once they got their food Toyomi steered the conversation in a different direction.

‘Hey, uh, I’ve noticed something about the way you speak to your friends. You make a dirty joke and then act like you don’t know what you said. Is that an in-joke between you three?’

Sahana’s shoulder’s rose. She stood still for a moment before scratching her cheek and looking away.

‘You caught me.’ She brought her shoulders down even lower than they were before. ‘I don’t know. I guess I’m playing a game to see how long it takes them to realise I’m not the pure innocent maiden they think I am. It’s weird, I know.’ She slurped some noodles before twirling her chopsticks around the bowl without picking anything up. ‘I kind of want them to figure it out, but at the same time I kind of… don’t? What if I go too far and they think I’m some sort of pervy weirdo? But I still do it, trying to be as subtle as I can. At least if they don’t know they can just think I’m unintentionally funny.’

‘Do you think your friends are the type to judge you for something like that?’

Sahana stopped moving her chopsticks. ‘Probably not.’

‘I wouldn’t worry too much about what people think about you. I mean, it seems like half the school thinks I’m gay for some reason.’

‘Well, you were on the verge of tears over the reunion of two male wrestlers who may or may not be lovers.’

‘Fair point.’

Sahana leaned forward, her eyes half-closed. ‘You don’t need to prove anything to anyone, but if you, for whatever reason, want to prove your interest in me, my lips are here.’

‘Is this the real you? I like it.’

Toyomi’s lips were soft enough to tickle Sahana’s. She giggled at the sensation and took in the smell of ramen from his hot breath. Her heart alternated between shocks of joy and warm contentment. She felt as if she had moved into a new house and immediately settled into it. Toyomi’s gentle touch was now her home.

Now, how were Masami and Kunie doing? Before the show started, they chatted about theatre and, for the first few minutes of the musical, struggled to keep quiet. The glares from the people sitting around them eventually sewed their mouths shut.

Plus, they had pretty and talented women to watch. The grand movements and powerful voices of the performers captured Masami and Kunie’s very souls. At one point, Masami turned to Kunie and could vaguely see a blush on her cheeks whenever the stage lights got brighter.

She followed Kunie’s eye line and saw that she was staring not at the woman wearing a suit and singing in a deep voice but at the soft-faced woman in a dress. The feminine woman wasn’t singing at the time.

Something bugged Masami about that woman. It wasn’t like she had any reason to. Her singing was fine and she played the role well. What was it about her that ever so slightly heated up the blood in her veins?

Masami’s blood cooled down when intermission began and Kunie rapidly fired off all the reasons she was enjoying the performance.

‘And the costumes are gorgeous too! I think you’d look good in the outfit Mieko Chage wore in the last scene.’

Masami’s cheeks matched Kunie’s from earlier. ‘Wasn’t that a wedding dress?’ At this point, I had my red string in my hands. However, her thoughts went elsewhere. In her mind, she explained away her blush as the result of the embarrassment she would naturally feel from someone making such a suggestion.

‘I’d hope you’d look good in a wedding dress. You will invite me to your future wedding, right? I’d hate for my friend to look bad on her special day.’

‘Who on earth would I marry?’

Kunie shrugged her shoulders. ‘Maybe no one. Or maybe I was right about us being late bloomers. You could find someone. Just make sure he treats you right, okay? And for the love of all that is good, please don’t use tongue when the groom is told to kiss you.’

Another guffaw from Masami. As the two laughed, they got closer and closer until Masami’s head rested underneath Kunie’s chin. While calming her own laughter, she could hear Kunie’s heartbeat and felt like she was in front of the fireplace on a cold winter’s day.

After a few moments of them slowing their breaths, Masami removed her head from Kunie’s chest and stood up, holding out her hand.

‘Want to get some ice cream or a drink before intermission ends?’

Kunie grabbed her hand and let her pull her up. ‘Think we can get to the front of the line before then?’

Masami shrugged, giggling and taking her to the candy bar’s long line. Only then did she realise she was still holding Kunie’s hand and let go. Her hand felt colder by itself. Only a bit, though.

Something Cute, Something Unexpected

The news has been terrible every day for a very long time now and I just wanted to write something happy. I saw a video of a caracal and it was so cute and someone made a comment on the video about a fennec and well, I thought how cute it would be if a caracal kitten and a little fennec played, which of course made me think of Mealla.

So, here’s something cute and fluffy.

Lasvala’s family is visiting their aunt who works for June. She’s nice, they guess, she likes to wear some weird things, but there are lots of pillows in her apartment and Lasvala loves pillows. Babae is happy too, he hasn’t seen his sister in forever, he says, but Nenae says it’s just been ten years. That seems like a long time to Lasvala though, so they think Babae can be melo-dra-ma-tic like Nenae says. Papae couldn’t come though, and they’re sad about that. He said that he has some important pieces to make and that’s why he has to stay, he told them to still have fun, so they’ll try.

On the fourth day of the visit, Babae and Auntie Veneth decide they want to go to this special park. There are big fountains that go whoosh which sounds very exciting. Nenae lets them ride on their back all the way there. They love riding on Nenae’s back, they’re so tall so Lasvala can see everything. They have to be careful to not pull on Nenae’s hair, so Lasvala pushes it over their shoulder so they can lean up to look at the surrounding area.

It’s different from Mythal’s area, that’s for sure. It’s less fancy but lots weirder. Not a bad weird, but it reminds them of when Nenae surprises them coming home and jumps out from around a corner.

They make it to the park and Aunti Veneth sets out a blanket while Babae works on taking out all their lunch food.

“’M hungry,” they say and Babae nods.

“Yes, baby, I know. Here, I brought you grapes,” he says and hands them a small box of grapes. They’re Lasvala’s favorite! The light green kind that are nice and sweet. They try to fit as many as they can into their mouth and squish’em all at once.

“Lasvala, you are making a big mess,” Babae clucks but it makes Nenae laugh. They reach in and grab an orange wedge and hold it in their mouth to make an orange mouth!

“Hahaha!” They laugh. Their nenae is so silly!

Auntie Veneth sighs but Babae chuckles as he hands them their sandwich. Peanut butter and banana! Their favorite!

After they eat and rest a bit because Babae says that’s important for die-ge-shun. Auntie Veneth plays her little harp for a bit and it’s very pretty. Lasvala reaches over to see how she’s doing it but she pulls it out of their reach.

“Veneth, let them look, they won’t hurt it, right Lasvala?” Babae says and Lasvala nods.

“I can be gentle! Like with Papae’s turtles,” they say. Aunti Veneth slowly lowers the harp to show them how she plucks at the strings to make music. They are very careful touching it. Like a big turtle.

It’s really neat, they think. The wood is smooth and the strings make really pretty noises, but it’s also a little boring after a moment. Nenae knows, because they always know, and directs them over to the grass.

“Irathar, my heart, come play with us,” Nenae says and Babae stands up, turning all pink.

“Very well. What would you like to play, little one?”

They giggle and run up to him, pressing their hand to his knee.

“TAG!” They scream before turning and running.

“Oh you got me!” Babae says.

“BABAE’S IT!” They shout, continuing to run as fast they can towards a small copse of trees.

“Eee!” Nenae shouts making Lasvala laugh and stumble into the trees. They quickly pick themselves up and continue to run through the bushes until they come to the other side.

They’re breathing heavily and very excited but when they turn around they don’t see Babae or Nenae. They blink and walk back into the trees, trying to remember where they were running so they can retrace their steps. Papae says that retracing steps is very important, they should know how to do it. But they were running super fast like Nenae taught them.

“Where’d you go, baby?” They hear. It doesn’t sound like their Babae, but it also does. They walk towards the voice, stepping over leaves and larger sticks.

“Nenae!” They shout, climbing over a log.

“Babae!”

“Who you shouting for?” Another voice says – and it’s coming from the log they’re on!

“Who’s that?!” They ask, shimmying up to edge of the log. They peer over the edge to see…someone like them, but also not like them.

“I’m Mealla,” she says, emerging from the log, “wa’s your name?”

“Lasvala. Are you a forest person?” They ask. They’ve never met a forest person before, but Mealla laughs and shakes her head.

“No! I’m a girl, you’re silly.”

“You’re in a log!” They say, to assure her that she too is silly.

“And you’re on top of one!” She says back. It’s a good reply.

“Okay, we’re both silly.”

“There you are, Mealla. Who’s this?” A grownup appears out from behind a tree and Mealla wiggles out of the log to run up to them.

“Tha’s Lasvala. They’re silly.”

“I’m sure they are. Lasvala, where are your parents?” They ask and Lasvala shrugs.

“I don’t know. I was running and then I stopped and then I didn’t hear them anymore.”

The grownup inhales and holds out their hand.

“I’ll help you find them. Can you point to where you last saw them?”

They scramble off the log and take the grownup’s hand then point to where they came from.

“Over there.”

“Alright, let’s go over there and look for them. What are your parent’s names?” The grownup asks as they begin to walk towards where Lasvala pointed. Mealla holds onto their other hand.

“My Nenae’s name is Courage ‘cuz they’re a fierce warrior for Lady Mythal. And Babae’s name is Irathar. Papae’s name is Mystery ‘cuz he works for Lord Dir…Dirf…D-ir-fa-men.” They say. Their ears twitch and their bracelet starts to make a very loud noise. They yell and shake their hand. Nenae always said that if they got lost the bracelet would make noise, but it’s so loud!

“LASVALA!” They hear and it sounds like their Babae.

Soon enough Nenae emerges looking very upset. They run over to Lasvala who lets go of the other grownup just in time for Nenae to pick them up.

“I’m here, little one, I’m here.”

“’M okay, Nenae.” They pat Nenae’s shoulder and soon Babae shows up. They wave at him and he places a hand on his chest before rushing up to them, touching their cheeks.

“Oh thank goodness you’re safe,” he says, running his hands through their hair.

“I’m okay!” They say again but Nenane doesn’t let go.

“I know, baby, you’re so brave. But you give us such frights when you do this,” Babae says softly. They begin to squirm to look back around at the other grownup and Mealla.

“They helped me! And that’s Mealla! She’s a log person,” they announce.

“Am not! A frog jumped in there, I went after it!” Mealla protests. Nenae keeps Lasvala close, their strong arms securing them to their chest.

“Thank you for assistance,” Nenae says and the other grownup nods.

“Of course, children should not be lost.”

And then another grownup shows up! She stumbles in through the brush, small like the other grownup and looks like Mealla.

“There you two are, I was getting nervous – oh, hello.”

“That’s Lasvala, and their parents!” Mealla says, being helpful. Lasvala waves and she waves back.

“How exciting!”

Nenae shifts their hold on Lasvala to shake the new grownup’s hand, “Courage, I take it you are Mealla’s mother?”

“Er, yes, what exactly happened?”

“I ran too fast and got lost,” Lasvala says, then points to the other grownup, “they found me.”

The new grownup smiles, “I’m glad everything turned out well. I am Aili and this is Uthvir, you already know Mealla.”

Babae steps forward and smiles a little weird, “I am Irathar, pleased to make your acquaintance.”

Lasvala begins to wiggle again but Nenae holds them fast. They flop against their parent’s shoulder and huff.

“Nanae, can I play with Lasvala?” Mealla asks softly.

“I don’t know, it sounds like they gave their parents a scare –

“I wanna play too!” Lasvala says.

Nenae sighs but doesn’t let them go, “We have a little picnic set up, if you would like to join us?”

There is a pause and Lasvala wriggles around to look back at Mealla and her parents.

“That could be nice, we can gather our things and have a little impromptu playdate,” Aili says and Mealla raises her arms.

“Yay!”

Nenae and Babae lead Mealla and her parents out of the trees and to the field. Nenae still doesn’t put them down though, but at least they get to feel all tall and stuff.

“We’re up there, by the fountain,” Babae points.

“I’ll go get our things,” Mealla’s Nanae says and walks back towards the trees.

“Nenaaaae,” Lasvala whines, but they don’t put them down until they get back to the blanket. Auntie Veneth runs over from her spot by the fountain and cups Lasvala’s face.

“Oh thank goodness you’re alright,” she says and they push her hands away to stand up and walk over to Mealla.

“Babae says it’s polite to give food, are you hungry?” They ask and she shakes her head.

“No thank you. There’s a bunch of cool bugs over there,” she says, pointing towards a lone tree.

“Can we go?” Lasvala turns to Nenae and they smile.

“I will go with you.”

Babae and Mealla’s Mamae also come with them, walking very closely to them.

“I’m seven,” Lasvala says. They think Mealla must be really young because she’s so little but she perks up.

“I’m six!”

“But you’re small!”

“So? You’re big and not a hundred,” she says and that’s true. They are big. But not as big as Nenae. But Nenae is huge.

They make it to the tree and Mealla goes to her knees, “Look!” She lifts a large piece of bark to reveal lots of shiny green bugs crawling around in the muck.

“COOOOOL!” Lasvala shouts, crouching down next to her. They reach out and gently touch a particularly large beetle. The shell is smooth but there are little grooves in it that catch the light and turn a different color. It kinda looks pink?

Mealla pokes at a longer bug with a bunch of legs and the entire thing lights up as it skitters away. Mealla giggles with delight and both of them follow it through the dirt and around a large protruding root. A dragon fly with glittering wings takes flight off the root.

Mealla watches the dragonfly while Lasvala gets distracted by a chipmunk dashing out from under the root. They don’t think, they just jump, their body vibrating with magic. When they land it’s on four paws instead of two feet and they chase after the chipmunk.

“Hey!” They hear Mealla shout, and their Nenae shouts and so does Mealla’s Mamae. They chase after the chipmunk and the air vibrates again. They turn around to see a fox with the biggest ears they’ve ever seen! They know the chipmunk got away but a fox is much more fun.

They jump back and the fox forward. They laugh and run around and the fox follows. They’re bigger and they manage to jump to the fox’s side and they pat at it.

“Hey!” That’s Mealla’s voice! Oh!

“You’re fox!”

“You’re a…kitty!” Mealla says and then their nenae walks over to them. They look so much bigger from down here.

“A caracal, the most amazing little caracal I have ever seen,” they coo and lean down, gathering Lasvala in their arms. Their giant hand comes down over Lasvala’s had and apparently very tall tufted ears.

They look up at their nenae who looks like they’re about to cry but they’re smiling so big, the kind of smile when Lasvala had finished their first book by themselves.

“Let’s go show Babae!” Nenae declares and promptly heads over to the blanket.

No! They want to play with Mealla!

“Nenae!”

“You can still play but let’s show Babae first,” they amend. When they squirm and manage to look behind them, Mealla’s Mamae has her in a similar hold.

“What in the world – Courage, what are you holding?” Babae asks, rushing over to Nenae.

“Babae, it’s me!”

His eyes bug out and Lasvala laughs because he always looks funny like that. He reaches out and touches their fur and his face goes soft.

“Oh look at you, baby!” He coos and takes them from Nenae’s arms. They let him hug them for a moment before they squirm.

“I wanna plaaaay!” They cry and he sighs but he puts them down.

“Fine, but be careful!” He warns just as Mealla pounces and wrestles them to the ground.

For the next hour of play, Lasvala thinks that Babae almost faints like five times. By the end, Lasvala can’t help but shift back into their original form. They are so tired and they promptly flop into their Nenae’s lap. They look over to see Mealla do the same with their nanae.

The grownups talk a bit, all boring stuff that they’re too tired to listen to. They feel Nenae pick them up and they turn to wave at Mealla.

“Bye-bye,” they say on a yawn.

“Bye-bye,” she replies, sounding already half asleep.

“Let’s get you to your nap, little one,” Nenae says and for once, they don’t protest.

HalBarry- We’ll Meet Again

((this was based off a HalBarry rp I did where i literally changed my name on Chatzy to ‘little Hal Jordan’ and Barry went awwwwwwww.... Also I am some what going with time period from the horrid GL 2011 movie))

Summer-1993

Even two months after his father’s death, Hal Jordan was still not used to the fact that his father died in a plane accident. The young 13 yr old brunette had turned into sort of a teenage angst kid. Never listening to his mom. His grades started dropping. It was almost as like loosing his father, who Hal looked up to, was his role model. In fact, it was his dream to become a pilot like his dad. Now that dream was slowly fading, until the day he met.......him.

His mother, saw that change in him and decided it was best for her and the boys to take time away from their home in Coast City. Walking into the hotel in Central City, Hal with his hand stuffed in his father’s jacket, which he wore everyday, and lugging his suitcase around like it was bag of rocks he was carrying. Sighing at the fact that this was suppose to be a ‘family get away trip’ but in reality it was a trip for Hal to feel better, which didn’t really help.

“Stop it!” Jim cried as his older brother Jack was picking on him. “MOM!”

Their mom, who was standing at the front desk checking in, told the lady hold on a minute. “Hal honey can you stop your brothers from hurting each other?” She gave him a quick glance.

At first he didn’t want to but his mom’s ‘go do it for me’ look was getting to him. “fine.”

“thank you dear.” Then she went back to checking in.

Hal slugged his way over to where his brothers were in the sitting area seeing Jack was running around playing keep away and being chased by Jim. “Give it back it’s mine!”

Jack was holding a Green Lantern figurine that their dad had given Jim. “um....No.” Jack stated. “here Hal think fast.”

He quickly caught the figurine studying the design of it carefully before Jim snatched it from his hand then running over to his mom. Hal looked up at his brother who gave him an expression that meant ‘really?’

His older brother crossed his arms. “Keep away means don’t let him have it back,” he said walking over to his mother nudging Hal’s shoulder as he passed him.

Hal shrugged but he couldn’t stop thinking about the figurine. He remembered when Jim got it from his dad a couple of years ago for his birthday. It had been his father’s toy growing up because Green Lantern was the protector of Earth and was his favorite superhero. Still thinking about it as he made his way following his family to the room on the 2nd floor.

After throwing his stuff onto his claimed bed he sat there holding his father’s air force dog tag. “Something the matter, Hal?” he mother asked as she came into the living room ((suite style hotel room)).

He snapped out of it. “yeah.....” he said a little bit plainly looking up to meet his mother’s gaze.

“oh alright,” she said smiling. “so Jack and I have agreed on sleeping arrangements.”

Hal put his head back down thinking as his mother told him that he was gonna sleep on the sofa bed with Jim and she and Jack was sleeping in the twin beds in the bedroom. He didn’t mind sharing a bed with his brother but what bugged him was no on was noticing his emotional pain. It was weird, being on vacation with out his dad showing him cool things. The fact of him not here was just too much that at any given moment Hal could explode in tears but he remembered his father telling him something night before his plane crashed. The words “It’s my job not to be scared” haunted him, but at the same time he was scared.

“Hal honey are you listening?” he mother kept repeating. “Hal?”

He balled his fists and looked up at his mom. “How can we be on vacation!”

His mother raised an eyebrow and his brothers looked at Hal. All three wondering why the sudden outburst. “Hal calm down.”

“yeah Hal what’s the big deal?” Jack said making his way over to sit next to him. “its just a vacation, bro.”

Hal looked at them with this frustrated look on his face. “no its not just a vacation!”

“what are you saying Hal?” his mother asked trying to calm him down.

He stood up frustrated and making a fist with his hands. “How can it be a vacation without dad!” glaring at everyone, who were still in shocked by his frustration.

No answer from them.

“How can we have a vacation and have fun without dad!” he continued to rant.

“Now Hal i understand that you are still upset and so are we.” His mother calmly putting a hand on his shoulder to calm him down. “But we-”

She was immediately cut off by Hal who threw her hand off his shoulder and his mom was offended that he even do that. “No you don’t get it! You all act like dad’s death is just something that we can forget and go on vacation for!”

His mother crossed his arms and told the other two boys to go into the bedroom and wait. After watching them leave and hearing the sound of Scooby Do Where Are You? turn on she immediately turn her gaze back to Hal who was staring at her.

“Hal I don’t know where this is coming from but it needs to stop,” she told him in a serious tone that meant trouble if he didn’t stop.

He didn’t stop, however, instead Hal kept on ranting with his mother getting more frustrated and irritated by every word that came from the thirteen year old’s mouth. Eventually, Hal took off leaving his mother flabbergasted and appalled that he would take off like that. She picked up the phone, but then deciding that he would come back after cooling off. Putting the receiver back down and walking into the bedroom sighing as she fell back into the chair just in time to listen to the Scooby Doo gang to reveal the villain. Jim, being an 9 year old, saw how upset his mom was and immediately responded with giving her hug.

“Mom is Hal going to be alright?” he asked burying his face into her shirt.

She sighed. “I think so he just need to cool off, but he’ll be back.” She kissed his head and all three of them continued to watch the Scooby Doo marathon.

Hal walked down the sidewalk of the unfamiliar city of Central listening to his walkman CD player with his hands stuffed in his jacket. Looking at the ground as he walked kicking a beer can onto the street wondering if he should go back and apology. Shaking his head and coming to the conclusion of they just don’t understand his pain. He loved his father. He was the coolest dad ever. His father always let him skip school to let him watch him pilot and he always gave him model airplanes when ever he piloted a new plane. He missed him so much. Sighing at what his dad looked like, he accidentally bumped into some one. Falling back a little and looking up at the stranger as he rubbed his head.mumbling the word ow.

“You okay?” the stranger asked in a voice that was almost music but nerd like. In the dim light of the street lamp, Hal cold make out the features of the man’s face. His blue eyes reminded him of a clear sky.

“yeah I am fine,” he said regaining his posture. Hal was beginning to notice the blonde stranger staring at him which made him feel uncomfortable. Oh god what if it was weirdo child catcher? He hoped not. Hal looked up and down him as he continued to stare. “well Mister I gotta go.”

He quickly walked past him, and seeing that the stranger was still watching him. Hal made a B-line by running to the corner where he got one last look at the stranger.

“what a weirdo.”

He started walking again and looking over his shoulder to see if he was being followed which he wasn’t. But by doing so, he was unaware of some one grabbing him in front. The arm quickly grabbed him pulling him into the ally way by surprise.

“HEY LET GO OF ME!” he hoped it wasn’t the blonde weirdo from before. Turning his head and completely terrified he thanked the god because it wasn’t the other person. Instead it was a grungy looking man with a bandanna around his head and tattoo of a lady with a name on it. Must be a lover or an ex-girlfriend.

“come on kid stop whining or we’ll have to gag you,” another man said coming from the shadows behind the dumpster.

“NO LET ME GO. HELP ME! SOME ONE HELP!” he cried just before being his mouth was covered by one of their hands.

“Shut up kid!”

The blonde stranger, who was not too far away, heard the cry for help. Barry immediately ran to the cry for help and was appalled that some one would try to kidnap an innocent kid. Although, him being part of the CCPD, he’d seen it all the time. The speedster’s usual instinct would be to put on the scarlet spandex suit and go Flash mode but he considered that fact that this was not his time zone and that he didn’t want another Flash in 1993. No instead he went with the old fashion way. Punching the thug, who was trying to keep Hal from getting away, square in the jaw sending him flying back into a pile of boxes. At that moment, Hal bit the hand covering his mouth and immediately fell to the ground, while Barry send him flying into the dumpster.

Hal layed on the ground a little scrape on his hand from hitting the pavement and watching the stranger beat the thugs up. At the end, the thugs ran away and hoping that the Flash wouldn’t catch them next.

“Yeah you better run!” Barry yelled almost pleased with himself for taking care of them with out super speed. He smirked and then noticed the kid on the ground. kneeling beside him and giving him a friendly smile to let him know he wasn’t gonna hurt him. “You alright there, kid?”

He swallowed thickly and nodded. “I think so.” looking at his scraped hands and then looking at the blonde stranger who know looked familiar.

“good,” he said. There was that stare again and Hal felt uncomfortable.

“um....Thank you,” he said getting up and dusting himself off. “Well....I have to go.”

Barry looked at him wide eyed. “Kid i am not gonna let you just go walking by yourself after what happened.” he said a little obligated to make sure he got home safely.

Hal crossed his arms and glared. “First off I am a teenager and my name is not ‘kid’ it’s Hal.” he stated. “And second, I can take care of myself.”

Barry finally realized why he was staring, this was Hal. Hal Jordan. His boyfriend. His 37 year old boyfriend. oh God this was awkward but he knew that he couldn’t hint about being from the future. “listen Hal. I am sure you can take care of yourself, but this is a dangerous part of Central City. I am not about to let a kid or teenager or anyone get hurt by people. you understand?”

He sighed. “I guess so.” At the moment, he didn’t realize he had forgotten about dinner.

Barry smiled and patted Hal’s back just before hearing his stomach growl. “You okay with me buying you dinner?” he asked hoping, Hal wouldn’t see this as some threat.

“sure since I don’t wanna go home.” he shrugged.

“alright then.”

Together, they started making their way back towards the sidewalk. Barry knew this part of town from having arrested criminals as the Scarlet Speedster plenty of times to know that a diner was not too far. He didn’t bother to ask if Hal liked hamburgers from having multiple dates with him it was like hamburgers were Hal’s favorite meal. They walked side by side in silence until Hal looked up at him trying to figure out why he saved him and who he was.

“So you have name?” Hal asked kicking the same can again but this time into the sewer.

hm. Barry looked down at him and saw Hal’s brown eyes clearly in the light of the lamp. “Barry.” he said. “Barry Allen.”

Hal stopped for moment and pondered where he heard the name Allen from before walking into the diner. The older man, grabbed a booth. Hal sat across from and him and they were immediately greeted by the waitress. They both began looking over the menu but Barry already knew what he wanted so he put the menu down on the table. After ordering, Barry began to question Hal.

“so what were you doing out here by yourself anyways, Hal?” he asked taking a sip of his rootbeer, which had a different taste than the rootbeer from his time period.

he looked up as he slurped his chocolate milkshake. “oh no reason.”

Barry always could tell when Hal lied from the slight smile and his small dimples appearing when he did lie. He still found it cute even if Hal was 13 years old. “Hal I am not an idiot so come on tell me what you were up to.” Barry glared a little which always worked on future Hal.

The glare was hard to resist and so he sighed putting his milkshake glass on the table. “I needed to get away from my obnoxious family, okay.” he started to get irritated again.

“Why? What happened?” Barry asked when the waitress put their hamburgers on the table in front of them.

The teen, automatically started eating the hamburger savoring the juciness of the meat. It was the best thing he’d ever eaten and he gave no answer to Barry’s question.

“Barry is it,” he said swallowing the meat putting the burger down to take another sip of milkshake. “Who are you anyways? Because you look familiar.”

Barry wondered how he could look familiar to Hal when they won’t meet for another several years at Mount Justice. He raised an eyebrow as he ate quickly due to his increased appetite.

“why do you say that? We never met.”

“well I don’t know...” Hal finished his burger and moved onto dipping fries in the ketchup. Eating the french fries as he thought. Barry looking at him quite intrigued as to where Hal had seen him before. “I know where I’ve heard your name.”

He looked up taking another sip of the soft drink.

“I remember watching the Coast City Channel 4 Action news with my dad,” he started to say and eating another french fry. “There was a news report about a doctor.....oh I can’t remember his name.” He thought hard trying to remember.

“Was his name Henry Allen?” Barry asked a little surprised that Hal put that together quickly but then again Hal wasn’t stupid either.

“Yeah it was,” he said. “Is Henry a relative of yours?”

They bother finished their meal and were leaning back to digest the food they ate. Barry couldn’t wait to get back to his Hal Jordan and have a nice juicy hamburger with him. The blonde looked at Hal. “um.....distant cousin.”

Yeah distant cousin let’s go with that. Hal will believe that.

“oh.” was Hal’s response.

The waitress came bringing them the check and clearing the table. She joked at how quickly, the teenager ate. “Your son has quite an appetite,” she smiled.

. “um yeah.” Barry giggled a little.

After she left, they both laughed so hard at her comment of Hal being Barry’s son. Then Hal gasped and began to frantically look at his chest.

“what is something wrong?” Barry said looking up from looking over the check.

No answer. Hal got up in heart beat and started searching around the table. “It’s gone.” he kept repeating and Barry repeating his answer of ‘what’s gone?’

Before anyone could realize it, Hal was running out the door back towards the ally way. “Hey wait Hal!”

Barry quickly payed and then ran after him trying not to used superspeed but ended up using it anyways. Luckily vine and snapchat hadn’t been invented yet so no one could record a a blonde flash running by. Back in the ally way, Hal was searching in the dark for his necklace.

“oh come on where is it.” he said on his hands in knees searching.

The scarlet speedster made it to the ally in less in a second. “Hal what are you searching for?” he asked walking over to him and kneeling on the ground next to him.

“My dad’s necklace it must’ve fallen off when I was trying to get away,” he said searching near the dumpster where he fell.

Barry stood up again and was going to regret doing this. He pulled his iphone out and turned the flashlight on. It’s bright light, scared Hal a little. “use this.” handing him the phone which Hal looked at carefully trying to understand what it was.

“is this a cell phone?” he asked never seeing one like this. Snapping out of it and using it to find his necklace.

Barry stood there watching and remembering the story about Hal’s father dying in the plane crash and he understood why the dog tags were important to him. Even in the future, Hal wore dog tags. One for his current membership to the Airforce and the other is the one his father wore. He never took it off. Not even for showers. Understand, what Hal was going through, he didn’t question the importance as he watched.

“Ha found it,” he happily said standing up with the Iphone in one hand as he put the necklace back around his neck.

He then tried to figure out how to turn the light off by pushing the button at the bottom of the phone. The lock screen showed a picture of Barry kissing a man who looked like Hal except older. The brunette had the same hair color. Same eyes. same skin tone and same..........dog tags. He stood there staring at the look alike of himself and Barry wishing he hadn’t given him the phone because now he had to explain. This was not going to be easy.

Hal handed it back to him. “who is that on the screen with you?” he asked looking Barry directly at him with the same look that he gets from future Hal when he wants something. This look was not something you could escape from.

Barry sighed after Hal really started to glare at him. “He’s my boyfriend.”

He raised an eyebrow. “okay but why does he look like me and has my dog tags?”

oh great here it comes. He really hope this won’t change the future anymore than what Barry had done from going back in time before. “Because he’s you.....” Barry pursed his lips waiting to hear some big reaction from the younger Hal Jordan.

Instead of exploding with a million batrillion questions Hal simply remained calm. “Are you saying that you’re from the future?” he asked trying to make sense of things.

Barry nodded. “yeah....” he was surprised by the kid’s calmness. Most people would be bamboozled by meeting some one from the future but then again Hal was always calm about things. He would have to be since he would become apart of a secret Alien organization from outer space known as the Green Lantern Corps.

Hal really didn’t ask anymore questions other than. “How come you didn’t make me go home?”

Barry knelt on the pavement putting a hand on Hal’s chocolate brown hair. “because I know exactly what you’re going through.” smiling at him.

“You do?” he asked tilting his head as he looked at him.

“course....” Just then Barry Allen started to fade into a portal that opened behind him which was vibing him back into his own time.

“wait don’t leave...” Hal cried out to him.

“Hey don’t worry we’ll meet again,” he said. “just remember that what you’re going through is when you need family and friends most. losing some one dear to you is not easy but casting away the ones who are here is more difficult because they are the ones who love you. Your dad is still here in your heart Hal.”

Then he was gone like that leaving Hal alone to think about and with that he smiled for the first time in months. “Thank you Barry,” he said still smiling.

The smiling teen started walking back to the hotel and up ahead were flashing lights of blue and red. He ran across the street join the crowd of people. once he was among the spectators watching a man being arrested and a body bag being carried out, he put it all the together and thought best to not ask what happened. As he left he saw, blonde boy sitting on the back of the ambulance truck crying with a blanket around him. Hal felt bad and walked over to him putting a hand on his knee.

“its okay,” he said trying to cheer him up.

The boy looked up with tear filled blue as that reminded Hal of the sky. He didn’t say anything and watch the brunette sit beside him on the edge of the truck.

“I lost some one too recently.” clutching the dog tags that hung around his neck and looking up at the stars.

“you did?” he asked shivering through his crying.

“Yeah I did,” he said. “but who ever you lost they are still with you.” pointing to the other kid’s heart. “they’re in your heart.”

At that the blonde kid smiled a little at his words and started to calm down. “My name is Barry.” wiping his tears away with the back of his hand.

“I’m Hal.”

Present Day. Summer 2017

Hal was eating left over Chinese food and drinking a beer when Barry came home. The Scarlet speedster was dressed in the same clothes from yesterday but that never bothered Hal. As soon as Hal saw him, he immediately swooped his boyfriend into a hug. Hugging him as if he had just came home from a long vacation to god knows where.

Barry hugged back enjoying the hug and but surprised by it. “Great to see you, honey.” he patted the taller brunette’s head before breaking the hug. Nothing changed? good. Barry sighed in relief.

He smirked and kissed Barry who gladly kissed back.

“Barry?” he said putting his arms around his boyfriend and looking into the other’s blue eyes with his brown eyes.

“hm?” Barry leaned his head against Hal’s chest embracing the warmth of his body.

“I never thanked you for the burger you bought me....” he said which the thought just came out of no where.

The blonde speedster looked up at him and just smiled at him before going back to lean on his chest. “You’re welcome Hal....”

“I am glad we met again.”

“Me too.”

The End

((hope you all enjoyed that and the only thing that was changed by Barry going back in time was how he met Hal. Who knows why Barry went back in time. I will leave you to make up your own reason.))

4. Just Affectionate: Wally's parents aren't abusive, just... neglectful, mainly in an emotional way. Distant. Fortunately, Wally has his aunt and uncle, and the Garricks, for hugs and smiles and emotional support and caring about that 'A' he got on his chemistry test. Small things. None of them realize that he's not getting any of these at home. They think he's just really social. Then, Barry and Iris are both gone at the same time, for whatever reason. (Mission, reporting, etc.) So are the Garricks, if you choose to include them. This absence lasts for an extended period of time, to the point where it starts to affect Wally. So he compensates when visiting Mount Justice. At first it's just extra hugs for teammates, which are nice, if a bit confusing. As time goes on, though, it extends to other things. Talking about his day, getting moody when there isn't anyone around, spending more time at Mount Justice than usual, taking negative feedback as more of a blow. This includes mentors, not just teammates. (Complete!)

5. Five Times Wally Couldn't Drive and One Time He Could: Wally, learning how to drive and being horrible at it. So Barry calls in Robin, because Robin is BAMF and can relate to Wally. And I'd love it if you included this little tidbit, because I kind of fell in love with it but am too lazy to write the rest. "You have a license?" Wally asks, his eyebrows horribly skeptical. So I figure they probably hang out on the weekends in Gotham or Central or some place when they aren't doing missions or dynamic duoing. And seeing as how Dick Grayson has to be the receiving end of a multitude of kidnappings but this time I would like a time when kidnappers are forced to take Wally too because there can't be witnesses! 9. Wally VS Wednesday: So say Wally's dating someone older, whether it's Kaldur or Roy or someone from the League, and at some point when he hasn't been having a good day, his boyfriend comes to see him after school ends, right at the gate. Cue hug, or a careless kiss, and by the next day, everyone's talking. (Complete with a few bonus chapters)

10. Baby’s First Book: Superboy is brand new in the world and he has a lot of firsts. Someone gets him a baby's first book were you put down all of the first things a baby does(first word, first laugh, first spit bubble). It can be a joke, something serious, maybe M'gann just trying to follow earth culture. Even though it's kind of silly the whole team helps to fill it up. So what would be the kind of things the team would want to remember?(Complete)

12. ‘Cause They’re Part of the Six Teens: The mentors have to face a horrible, horrible realization. Even though their former-sidekicks are still nominally their partners... in reality, the members of YJ are Batman's. How they come to this conclusion is up to you, but I would love to see Batman stepping up for any non-Robin member of YJ. Crack/angst/slash/gen/whatever is perfectly fine.

13. Speedster Chase Instinct: Speedsters have an innate need to chase/race really fast things. Wally keeps his under control by playing tag/racing Barry every couple of days (and vice versa), but what happens if Flash can't be there for some reason? 14. Everyone Needs a Little More Dick: A certain Dick Grayson is put into the custody of a certain Agent Gibbs and his staff. He gets to meet the whole team and trolls the shit out of Tony though no one believes the poor guy when he tries to tell the others about it. Dick's got those innocent-who-me? baby blues that NO ONE can resist. Bonus if this when he's older and can still pull off the kicked puppy look. Super bonus if Superboy gets involved somehow, though just him. EPIC SUPER BONUS if you have Dick and Gibbs bonding in their red head kink. (Completed)

17. Mission: Seduce Sexy Snarky Damian: Wally is thrilled when Robin tells him his secret ID! After doing so, Robin takes him to Wayne Manor to introduce him to his brothers: Damian, Tim, and Jason. What Wally wasn't expecting was the feeling that came over him as he laid eye on the gorgeous Damian Wayne. Cue Wally beginning phase one of Mission: Seduce Sexy Snarky Damian! Romance ensues! Damian/Wally Note: The ages are reversed. Meaning, Damian is the oldest (precisely what age is up to author anon), Tim's second oldest, Jason is second youngest, and Dick is the youngest. Bonus: Insert humor as Wally tries pick up lines, over the top flirting techniques, and failed attempts to be seductive, etc. (Completed, it’s a minfill)

18. Fill(It’s just called that no other name): Cadmus cloning project always ended in failure - clone degeneration, imperfect powers, starts to have mind of its own and goes against them, etc. They can't make a perfect weapon that can kill/replace Superman. So tried a different approach this time. Instead of developing one weapon, they're going to make a set of different weapons - each focusing on different powers that could go toe on toe with Superman. And so Cadmus had their perfect set of weapons. Separated, they can handle a fight of their own. They have been trained thoroughly and their powers have been honed to perfection - the clone is now stronger, the speedster now rivals the Flash with his speed, and the alien could now use all her power with great expertise. (WIP; it’s amazing though!)

19. Filling the Empty Rooms: Since Roy has shown a love for masks only rivaled by every memeber in the batfamily, I would like to request AU where Roy is adopted by Bruce. Could it also include Roy, Rob and KF hanging out in the Batcave? (Completed)

20. Kid Lantern: Wally loses his powers (reason up to anon) and starts feeling down about being depowered. Though he knows that powers don't make the hero, he still feels that he needs them help. Cue Uncle Hal lending Wally Green Lantern powers until he regains his speed (which he does, eventually). And Wally, being the ever lovable teenager that he is, has some 'fun' with those powers. Perhaps he trolls people or maybe the powers allow him to save his friends from a really powerful villain. (Complete; Minifill)

21. The Hazard of Accidental Dimension Travel: Wally doesn't disappear. He travels dimensions. The JLU one to be exact. And he manages there for quite some time, getting himself an identity, a job, and even becomes a founder of the Justice League in that dimension. (Completed)
