OC Kiss ∙ First [Harvey/Trinne: Dragon Age, @errantgoat/mine]

When Harvey wanted to be alone he went to the woods. When Trinne wanted to be alone she reverted to old habits from the Circle--find the highest, dustiest, most unused-looking room in a building and stare out the window thinking about nothing-in-particular or everything. There was rarely an in-between.

Today was one of those exceptions, however, a few things circling in her head to work through. But she was also enjoying the steady patter of rain against the building. The roof, the stone walls, the parapet outside the lone, large window, all gave different sounds in the downpour. She sat on the window ledge, just catching the mist off the rain but protected from the main deluge.

The rainy symphony almost drowned out the sound of approaching footsteps. (Meaning he was deliberately walking to be heard.) The door made a hideous creak when it opened. "Can't say I ever thought to find you here."

"And I didn't think anyone would," Trinne said glibly, pulling her knees into her chest to make room if he wanted to join her. "I guess it shouldn't surprise me you know every nook and cranny of the place." And know me. She turned to look back outside. "This is good for watchin' the rain."

"I'm a little surprised you aren't out in it," Harvey commented as he crossed the room.

"You kiddin'?" Trinne snorted, a peal of thunder underscoring. "I like to throw lightning, Cousland, not catch it."

"My mistake," he said mildly, leaning against the window frame and watching the rain in silence a few minutes. "Any particular reason...?"

"Just needed time to myself. Just 'cause I'm better with crowds than you doesn't mean I always wanna be around people," she teased. "You, of course, are not included in people."

Harvey huffed a small laugh and rubbed the back of his neck, finally sitting next to her on the wide sill.

She rested her chin on her knees and stared out at the rain. "I didn't feel empty when I woke up this morning," she said softly.

He cocked a brow. "Is that good or bad?"

Trinne shrugged. "It just is." Most people would say good, she thought. "Not sure how I feel about it, hence the hiding to work though my thoughts." She unfurled her legs, scooting along the window ledge to sit with their shoulders pressed together. "This is a good place for it."

"It is."

"What did it used to be?" she asked idly. Her thoughts were spinning circles, might as well distract herself from them with some Castle Cousland history.

"Originally? A nursery." Harvey picked moss out of a gap in the stone and rolled it between his fingers. "After we outgrew the need, it was storage." A faint smile pulled at his lips. "And one of my first hiding spots when I was trouble."

She grinned at that. "Really?"

"Really. It worked much better when there was more up here, but it still took quite a while to find me, regardless." He nodded down toward the... it couldn't even be called a balcony; a two foot wide angled floor running the length of the window to connect it with the parapet. "Unless they looked out here, I was good as invisible."

Trinne giggled, eyeing the amount of water collecting with the current weather. "And when it rained?"

"I hid in the stables." The moss finally crumbled, and he wiped his hand on his trousers.

She snorted, working her hand under his to link their fingers. "Thanks for sharing your first ever hiding spot with me, Harv."

He kissed her temple. "You're welcome."

Trinne tipped her head to look at him. "How long d'you figure before Fergus notices we're missing and tracks us down?"

"Notices?" Harvey hummed in thought. "At least an hour; he's meeting with the masons. Tracking us down, if he's inclined, depends entirely on if he kicks Dane and Frida awake to help or looks on his own."

"Using mabari is cheating," Trinne said with a mock-affronted gasp.

"No, it isn't."

"Well, it should be," she huffed, grinning.

Harvey was nice enough not to point out the times she'd used Frida to find him while they were traveling. "Maybe we should make good use of what we get...?"

"Yeah." She stretched up to steal a kiss, then snuggled in to listen to the rain with the best possible company.

Kiss Week 2025 - The Ginger’s Introduction

Hi everyone!! Hello especially to the four mutuals who read my text posts! 

It’s been literal years since I’ve written and posted fanfiction, and I’ve really missed it. So I took the opportunity to dip my toes back in with the OC Kiss Week prompts from this post.

Unfortunately, I am… an idiot. And didn’t read the official OC Kiss Week rules before I went ahead and wrote six out of the seven prompts, so I won’t be tagging my posts with their official tag. But! That won’t stop me from sharing my writing with my beloved moots and followers, and the poor strangers who wander into the character tags.

I will be tagging all my related tumblr posts with #TheGingersKissWeek, for those that are interested or disgusted. I will also be posting and linking to AO3 for those who prefer to read there.

It should be no surprise that Dragon Age the Veilguard has held my brain in a vise the last three-ish months, so these little snippets, drabbles, and one-shots are all from my DATV canon. And as I play by no man’s rules but my own, I have 6 canon Rooks and one of my Inquisitors also makes a starring appearance (both in game and in one of the prompts). It’s MY sandbox and I get to have fun the way I WANT!

That being said, my Dragon Age world state for DATV is a hot mess for someone who doesn’t live inside my brain with me. So under this read more, there’s way more information than any of you need, and more than most of you want.

Easy stuff first:

Hero of Fereldan is Aineislis Tabris, archer rogue who romances Leliana

Technically I have two other Warden OCs who are major parts of that story, but if you ever see me talk about “THE Hero of Fereldan,” it’s Aineislis.

Hawke is Evan, warrior who romances Merrill

Hawke is the only main character I only have one of, for some reason. I think it’s the sort of inherent loneliness of the Hawke character in DA2. But that’s not important. Evan is off avoiding conflict and the law, and has no desire to be part of DATV.

Technically speaking, I have 3 canon Inquisitors:

Nihkaani Adaar: The Herald of Andraste, holds the anchor. Warrior, former mercenary, romances Josephine. Does not love Solas, but does not hate him either.

Yveriel Lavellan: One of my Lavellan twins, a rogue and head woman of Leliana’s spy ring. She’s the most morally grey of the group, and she’s got beef with Solas. Romances Cullen.

Ellior Lavellan: The other Lavellan twin. Most of the time, when I talk about THE Inquisitor, I’m talking about Ellior. He’s a Fade Rift mage, and the foremost healer and scholar of the Inquisition. Frequent insomniac. Romances Dorian, and after the events of Trespasser, he moves up to Minrathous with Dorian. They have had several misadventures in the decade between Trespasser and DATV. Ellior was actually friends with Solas, and does want to find a way to redeem him. (Lucky for Solas, Ellior is the Inquisitor who is around in DATV)

The Lavellan twins are really city elves, who grew up on the streets in Denerim - Yveriel joins Clan Lavellan when Ellior is whisked away to Fereldan’s Circle shortly before the events of Dragon Age Origins begin. Ellior joins her when the Circle comes crashing down, and they both get adopted into the clan.

I have a bunch of magic hocus pocus to make this work and explain why there are three Inquisitors and only one Herald of Andraste.

I have a fourth OC who is part of the canon and appears in DATV: Faye Lavellan, my Solas romancer. She is part of the Inquisition from its inception, but is very introverted. She is not an Inquisitor, but does study the Fade with Ellior and Solas.

In order of appearance this week:

Kirruk: elf/mage/Grey Warden, oldest sister to Davrin and Mylliel. The nickname Rook comes from her actual name, so it gets used regularly. Grew up Dalish but left the clan after her magic manifested (she was the Third) - inspired by the Hero of Fereldan to join the Grey Wardens. Quiet, serious, and generally reserved. She is my “main” Rook, and takes on the role of Leader of Veilguard. Romances Neve. 

Iona Volkarin: Qunari/mage/Mourn Watch, adopted daughter of Emmrich. Had a falling out with him because she is not quite as studious and academic as he is - she’s endlessly curious, but also a bit of a thrill seeker. He was worried about her safety, she thought he was trying to stop her from pursuing a future outside the university. They reunite in game and have a nice long chat to work things through, not to worry. Romances Davrin.

Imekari: Qunari/mage/Lord of Fortune, twin (trans) brother of Taash. Has a marginally better relationship with Shathann mostly because he’s a big huge himbo people-pleaser. And yes, Shathann did name him the Qunlat word for “child,” she was very tired, okay. The kindest and gentlest giant in the world. Romances Lucanis.

Vincenza de Riva: dwarf/rogue/Antivan Crow, ex-step grandmother of Lucanis. She was Caterina’s partner for ~20 years, including when Lucanis’ parents were killed. Had a pretty big falling out with Caterina after Lucanis “died,” and moved back into House de Riva. She still sees Lucanis and Illario as her boys, since she spent a lot of time with them as they trained to be Crows. Fiercely loyal and protective of friends and family. Romances Emmrich.

Mylliel: elf/warrior/Veil Jumper, youngest sibling of Davrin and Kirruk. The only kid who didn’t leave clan life behind them. Scholar and archivist of ancient elven artifacts, though more in a “human Earth archaeology” way because she doesn’t have the magical abilities of Bellara or Irelin. Really, really wants Strife to think she’s cool. Romances Bellara.

Felix Lavellan-Pavus: human/mage/Shadow Dragon, adopted child of Ellior and Dorian. Formerly a Venatori slave, who (at about 13) was abandoned and left to die when their enslaver came under attack, then found by the Shadow Dragons. Ellior and Dorian took them in and taught them how to use magic and how to be a person. Shy, anxious, constantly has a case of imposter syndrome, but is actually a super competent and super compassionate person. Romances Harding and Taash.

Kirruk and Iona are recruited by Varric, after their respective misadventures that led to them being placed on academic leave, a year before the beginning of the game. Kirruk is the one with Solas in her head.

Mylliel gets recruited with Bellara (she is assigned Bellara’s bodyguard in Arlathan forest that day). Vincenza gets recruited with Lucanis (Nona de Riva is not going to let some stranger rescue HER grandson).

When the dragons attack Minrathous and Treviso, the group splits up: Kirruk (and the dagger), Mylliel, Bellara, and Neve go to Minrathous. Iona, Davrin, Vincenza, Harding, and Lucanis go to Treviso. In Treviso, Imekari (who happens to be there after taking a break from the LoF, on a research quest from Shathann) helps them bring down the dragon so it doesn’t blight everything. Imekari is not the dragon hunter his sibling is, so they aren’t totally successful, but Ghilan’nain is in Minrathous and has less control over the Treviso dragon. So both cities get “saved”. Felix meets up with the other group in Minrathous and helps them navigate the trickier passages through the city. At this point, both Felix and Imekari join the group. 

The game basically progresses as normal from this point, until endgame. 

I really truly cannot think too hard about the climate/tidal/atmospheric/astronomic implications of Elgar’nan moving THE MOON to cause the eclipse to happen early. It’s just. It’s so much. I also am of the firm belief that Minrathous and Dock Town, specifically, have suffered enough. And also that fighting TWO GODS AND AN ARCHDEMON at the same time is difficult enough even with all your allies and factions - we don’t need to make this even more difficult. So my entire endgame happens on Tearstone Island. As such, I also skip the Fade Regret Prison because I believe in well-adjusted characters and Kirruk the Grey Warden has had to come to terms with her regrets and her failings so so so many times already. Solas can’t get her that easy. 

So, she and Neve (and nearly everyone else) have their “I thought I’d lost you forever” conversation and commitment conversation before that point. I have a bunch of thoughts that I won’t bore you with on how these all go down. But, my first little snippet happens between Kirruk and Neve before Tearstone Island. So, not to worry, they have kissed multiple times before this point; they’ve even banged before this point.

I haven’t covered close to everything in this one post, but I have done A LOT of thinking about Dragon Age over the last five years. So chances are, if you have a question, I’ve thought about the answer and just haven’t written it down.

This Satinalia romantic comedy is set during Dragon Age 2, Act 2. Old friends Leandra Hawke and Alsatia Trevelyan have conspired to fix up their incorrigible children Garrett and Rose. 100% inspired by the madcap romantic comedies of my youth in the 90s and writers like Stella Gibbons and P.G. Wodehouse smashed up with a little Georgette Heyer and Jane Austen, this fic is perhaps most representative of my life's work as a writer 😂 Shamelessly romantic, funny, a little bit ridiculous and underpinned by the madness and angst that is Dragon Age 2/ Kirkwall. I'm really super proud of this one.

Mature, WC 6450, Angst and Whump | Cullen POV

This is a big brained companion fic to my DA:I long fic In the Shattering of Things in Cullen's POV (though it pretty much stands on its own). He's on the outs with his love interest Rose Trevelyan, he's struggling to feel like he belongs in the position of Commander and there are a bunch of extra delicious flashbacks to Dragon Age 2 featuring Samson and Meredith. Dragon Age 2 Cullen has always fascinated me because you really only get to see his growth if you make certain choices and pay close attention. This fic is my exploration of his growth, particularly his relationship to The Order as the situation in Kirkwall deteriorates and how that relates to his current predicament in Inquisition. I am also extremely proud of this fic! (I will note that it is *not* a deep exploration of his relationship to mages, so please don't go in expecting that).

Something Wicked This Way Comes

Mature, WC 7,380, Angst & Action, Multiple POV

Yet another companion fic to my DA:I long fic In the Shattering of Things but I think it would be an interesting read without the greater context. The premise is that Inquisitor Rose Trevelyan has disappeared in the midst of the Peace Talks Gala at the Winter Palace and follows the POVs of Cullen, Garrett Hawke, Josephine, Vivienne and Orlesian Bard Fidencio Frye (my friend @monocytogenes's OC) as they learn she's missing and try to find her. This is a very non-canonical take on WEWH. It was an incredible challenge to write and i think I did a bang up job capturing the tension and stakes.

This is one of my older fics, born of a writing prompt for Dragon Age Drunk Writing Circle. Mostly I was having a wonderful time getting into Alistair's head as he experiences a bit of a sexual awakening with a bold, but also inexperienced Elissa Cousland. In addition to feeling that I captured Alistair really well, I also think I nailed the kind of fumbly, youthful awkwardness that is mutual first times. It's a bit smutty but it's also just really sweet and funny.

I would be remiss if I did not recommend my Inquisition long fic (which I'm still working on-- currently approaching Here Lies the Abyss). It's also a little bit complicated because my writing talent has come *a long way* since I began the fic in January '23. It basically begs the question: what if the Inquisitor is in over her head and what's it like trying to navigate falling in (and out of) love when the world is falling apart. It's got it all: romance, humor, heartbreak, ridiculously high stakes, a delicious but grown-up love triangle and a protagonist you can root for that is imperfect but doing her bloody best. When it's all done, this fic will probably be my greatest achievement and I will lie on the floor crying.

28. During the Landsmeet, who did the Warden choose to rule Ferelden and why? How did they come to that decision?

aedan cousland chooses anora to rule ferelden, and sets himself up to be her prince-consort. he leans towards supporting anora rather than alistair because quite simply, aedan's hyperaware of the fact that alistair's only qualification for king is the fact he has theirin blood. he admires anora's political acumen - he's as aware as anyone is that she's basically been running the country for cailan for years - and a regime change in the middle of the blight does not seem like a great idea to him. aedan also thinks that alistair is sharp-witted, clever, knowledgeable but he wasn't raised for leadership, shows reluctance for it, and arguably most importantly, is only considering the role in the first place because eamon is pushing for it. putting alistair on the throne gives the guerrins too much sway over throne. he doesn't really have anything personally against alistair - exiles him, since he refuses to stay with the wardens when aedan conscripts loghain (in order to be able to marry anora) (and of course, to justify his taking of the place of prince-consort, he has to fight loghain - alistair fighting loghain would lend credence to his claim to the throne), attempted to wrest the throne from anora and aedan himself and failed - but alistair dislikes him deeply for a wide variety of reasons.

31. What are Hawke's thoughts on Meredith, Orsino and Elthina?

muna hawke quite rightly lives in fear of meredith - carver ends up joining the templars, and she doesn't have such a great relationship with him, and she's both terrified of getting dragged to the circle, and terrified that meredith will leverage carver against her somehow - which she does, in act 3. as for elthina, muna's unfailingly polite to the both of them (to everyone, really - she has a diplomatic personality), but i think she's very frustrated by elthina's refusal to do anything, in a way that i find interesting, because arguably, as hawke, muna also has the freedom to act, but never feels like she does, on account of her being an apostate being an open secret by act 3. orsino makes her uncomfortable - it's too startling a reminder of how her life could have been, or could have gone, which is where her discomfort is, and she identifies too closely with his choked feelings of helplessness.

3. What was their life like before the Conclave? Did they have friends and family?

han lavellan had a whole life before the conclave! he was taken to the ostwick circle when he was young, and escaped in his late teenage years so his return to the clan meant resuming his duties as the keeper's first, picking up all the studies that he'd missed in his years of captivity. han is... not always personable, a little strict/firm, so he doesn't have a wide group of friends, but he has a close group of friends - ghilana, ankur - and most enjoys spending his little free time with his twin sister, ellana who always drags their cousin, marya, along as well.

I love thinking about my Cousland Eden so much. About her and Alistair. King and Queen of Ferelden. It really sucks they are apart. I just hope she finds the cure because if she doesn’t? All that time they could’ve been together before their calling was just wasted. That would kill me.

I know they write each other often. I know Eden often asks for forgiveness, for leaving him alone doing something he didn’t want to do. She said they would do it together and then she just left. She probably thinks that curing them will make up for all of it..

There’s also the dark ritual.. it genuinely drives me insane. Eden pleaded with him to do it because she didn’t want him to die but she didn’t want to die either. She wanted him, the getting married and having kids life just like her parents..

You know, I can’t imagine any my ocs wanting/having children but Eden is the only one I know would have love to have them, specially with Alistair. And it sucks that they can’t have them together. They would have been excellent parents..

I think that I’m more upset about making Alistair have a bastard child than I am about making him king.. and Eden would probably feel guilty about that too… I still don’t know how Alistair feels about it. I know he forgives her but I also know they have fought about it.

The being king is hard but he is probably a fine at it. He wishes he was with her of course, he is lonely and misses her. He probably would have rather they live out their lives and wait for their calling together instead of her leaving to find the cure.

I have this headcanon that he desperately tries to make her stay when she tells him she is leaving but she insists she’s doing it for them. They fight, he tells her he is forgiven, that she doesn’t have to go, but she does. She waits for him at the gates to say goodbye but he doesn’t go. So she leaves. She first stops at the Cousland castle to say goodbye to her brother and spends the night there. A few hours after Eden leaves, Alistair regrets not saying goodbye to her and rushes to castle Cousland to see her. He sobs when he sees her and says he doesn’t want her to go.

The reunion is going to be bitter sweet but I will love it.

She can't cook for life. Morrigan and Alistair tried their best to teach her the basics... but she just can't,

She steals as a hobby. When she was younger, she stole from her family and staff around the Cousland's castle, only to give it back later and watch their bafflement as they realized something of theirs was missing. It became a bad habit. She gives back the stuff she stole (usually),

She loves being in control and making tough calls, even if they're stressing her out. She was raised as a ruler and she enjoys leading,

She loves politics and scheming. She finds it fascinating and she wants to find out more about people, their motives - it's the game, and she thrives in it,

She loves to draw; her sketchbook is filled with sketches of her friends and gryffins (there's a lot of sketches of gryffins and Alistair with hearts around them).

Her magic abilities showed up when she was around 5 years old, scaring the shit out of pregnant Leandra who went into labor shortly after. Hawke froze Malcolm's hands as he tried to tickle her,

She hates being alone. She needs someone at close proximity at all times; the more the merrier! After all, she need an audience for all the jokes she cracks (lmao),

Often she casually strolls into Anders' clinic to watch him work - healing magic is not her forte, and she finds it mesmerizing how Anders wields it,

She can sing - she loves singing. She used to sing lullabies for the twins when they were younger,

She doesn't really sleep at night, but she often takes naps. She can nap anywhere, there's no position that's uncomfortable for a nap. She especially enjoys those naps when the sun is shining right at her, warming her up. Anders says it reminds him of a cat.

In the Ostwick Circle, she and her friends created a competition of 'who's going to make the funniest prank on the Templars.' It went on for years, but finally, she was declared the winner when, at her Harrowing, she decided to prank them with a bunny pretending to be a demon of greed,

Due to her rebellious nature, she often wasn't allowed to leave the Tower. Thanks to that, she's quite pale. After leading the Inquisition, she got sunburned really bad, lol

Her attitude is surprisingly very un-ladylike - despite being a Trevelyan. This was something Josephine was concerned about when they went to Halamshiral, but Evelyn put on such a good mask - remembering all those talks she had with her mother and all the books she read about Orlesian customs, her behavior was perfect,

She's got a big sweet tooth. She loves tiny Orlesian desserts, cakes, chocolate, sugar, and fruit. Instead of eating meals, she tends to snack throughout the day, taking a little pouch filled with dried fruit, cheese, bread, and nuts.

Her magic abilities presented when she was 13; she made her fingers sparkle with electricity when one of her cousins stole her piece of cake. Her cousin's hair stood up, and the entire family dinner went silent. Then, chaos erupted.

Personality: Overall, she's mostly a serious and sympathetic person who genuinly likes to help people but who has her fun moments and her moments of literally fuck this shit. She can also be very selfish at times (cough cough landsmeet cough cough) but ultimatly tries to do good by everyone.

Aesthetic: She jumps between wearing very beautiful gowns, and spending time getting ready to wearing the heaviest plate armor to the point you can't even tell who it is that's kicking your ass because they're covered in armor from head to toe.

Fav thing about them: She's just a girl with so much grief and the weight of the world on her back and so much angers at the cards she was dealt but my god, is she going to pull through. I love putting her in situations because no matter how shitty they are, she's making out of it.

Fun fact: her name is anneliese because before I started DAO, i was rewatching barbie princess and the pauper and i didn't want to use eliza or elizabeth (which are my biggest go-to)

She loves embroidery. When she was 16, she secretly entered a tourney and won. Her mom was not happy.
