Finally finishing all these guys we’ve got charts and headcanons! (Long post)
Tumblr media
(Height)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Wingspan)
Tumblr media
(Body length & basic shapes I used) (it might be odd but ignore any detail on the back, the shapes are for general body shape)
Headcanons:
Seawings: - Colors range from red and purple to yellow - Aquatic is based off areas of bioluminescence rather than singular scales (because no one wants to draw all of those) - Although they average small compared to the other tribes, gigantism is more common - Wing bioluminescence gene is always present but for some doesn't show, thus aquatic doesn't utilize the wings
Rainwings: - Can change the texture of their scales alongside color - Weakest bite due to their fangs, probably why they're vegetarian - Mimic interesting behaviors - Have forked tongues
Mudwings: - Colors range from olive green to purple-ish red - Very resilient - Able to breathe fire regardless of body temperature, the heat of the flame depends on body temp - Their horns constantly grow and sometimes have to be cut due to dangerous growing patterns - Love gnawing on things, tough foods like jerky is popular - The horn covers of fallen siblings are harvested and turned into instruments to remember them by
Leafwings: - Colors range from gold to teal (and pink to olive green during cold seasons) - Can appear to have false eyes - Bug-like just like the other Pantalan residents (because they're just some weird outlier like what is going on here) - Leafspeak doesn't actually allow them to hear voices from plants but rather increase the sensitivity of their antennae which pick up on the changes in plants - In colder seasons, regions that have deciduous trees influence leafwings in that their scales change into warm tones similar to fallen leaves for camouflage but this also negatively impacts one's leafspeak ability; this doesn't apply to evergreen leafwings however
Hivewings: - Colors range from hot pink to olive green - Can appear to have false eyes - Have elbowed antennae just like their "cousins", Hymenoptera (wasps, bees, ants) - Tend to disregard personal space/get close out of habit, being close means better temp regulation and better communication - All hivewings have stingers, wrist stingers, and a venomous bite but it largely depends on preference of which they choose and like muscles, they can be exercised to become deadly weapons - They're not capable of "emitting a horrible stench"
Icewings: - Colors range from white to pale indigo - Melanism is still very rare but more likely in icewings - Can be iridescent in any color, especially visible in lighter scaled individuals - The scales on their face is very fine and is flushed with blood which darkens the area and allows them to see in the snow by absorbing light, otherwise the glare from the sun reflecting off would be a hinderance - Their wings are thin and thus have visible veins most of the time - Idk how to describe their scales other than its kinda like basalt formations - From the side they appear large but are actually thin and flexible - They can freeze to death if they've gone without cold for a long time and then reintroduced too quickly - In hybridization, they have dominant genes, partially because the animus gene - The extra mane of horns can appear randomly on the body in singular spikes, they also make a clink sound when they collide as if they're made of ice, making a pretty scary rattle when disturbed
Nightwings: - Colors range from orange to purple - Albinism is still very rare but more likely in nightwings - Dwarfism is more common - Teardrop scales are always present, highlighted when the dragon has powers regardless of type - Pitbull ready to bite kids - They CAN hang upside down as the books suggest but not for long - By taking dust baths, they dull their scales to reflect less light and blend in better in the dark - Have white fire but cant breathe for long due to how hot it is (this is mainly to add onto the mysterious factor of em and I always liked the idea) - Due to eye sensitivity, they hate sudden bright lights and will close their eyes as they breathe fire
Silkwings: - Can have black or dark accents but never as a whole body color unless they've hybridized - Wing shapes vary widely - Can appear to have false eyes - Flamesilk is rarer than one might think - Very flexible and have strong tails used as a sort of 5th limb in climbing - Albino or melanistic dragons still keep their iridescence - Silk is emitted through a spinneret on the chin rather than the wrists - Prefer to travel in pairs (instinct)
Sandwings: - Colors range from red to olive green - Dark patters often mimic a snake's - Horse-like in complexion - Alongside their snake-like appearance, they have pit organs - Tend to move like birds - Poor eyesight but good hearing - Their horns angle upwards sort of like a bull
Skywings: - Colors range from red to yellow (and green because skywings are meant to be your typical fire breathing dragon which is most often depicted to be red but can also be green) - Tend to move like birds - Weaker than they appear - Green skywings are incapable of being or having flamescales - Their horns constantly grow and have to be filed down - A flamescale cant melt rock or metal by touch alone, only via fire is it possible - It's not that they don't want flamescales that they kill them, it's more of a mercy killing because of how lonely their life can be

Here's some silly little metaphors that I think the dragon tribes would use
SkyWings
“Don’t count your clutch before they hatch.” (Don't plan too much too soon)
“Gold is better than silver, but silver is better than nothing.” (If you can't do it perfectly, still try your best. Most dragons forget the second part.)
“‘Sorry can't suck the fire back in.” (The damage is done and now you're dead to me.)
“You been eating too much burnt meat or something?” (Are you nuts?)
“Stop all this smoke and use your fire.” (Stop rambling and get to the point already; or stop complaining and do something)
“Doesn't know his tail from his wings.” (Stupid or clumsy)
“You fly like a depressed pigeon.” (Slow flier)
“There's no fire in a rainstorm.” (Stop feeling sorry for yourself and get to work.)
“Nighttime is for the NightWings.” (What are you doing up? Go to sleep.)
SandWings
“She’s all rattle, and no strike.” (Like all bark no bite)
“A diamond in a pile of quartz.” (Like a needle in a haystack)
“You’re watering the cactus and ignoring the sapling.” (You’re focusing on the wrong thing; barking up the wrong tree)
“Everyone thinks the camel looks silly until the dry season comes.” (Don't listen to them, they don't know how unique and strong you are)
MudWings
“Crocodile tears.” (Fake crying in order to gain sympathy)
“You can only catch a trout if your mouth is open.” (Be open to new experiences)
“If the tree gives away too much, it ends up as a stump.” (Don't let people take advantage of your generosity)
SeaWings
“Happy as a clam in high water.” (Very happy)
“The flying fish feels like a fool when it sees an osprey.” (Don't compare yourself to others, run your own race.)
“Plenty of fish in the sea.” (Plenty more opportunities to come.)
“You’ve got ink in your eyes.” (You're blind to something important)
“Lobsters only die when they don't leave their shell.” (Keep yourself busy with new experiences and you'll life a long life)
NightWings
“Sleep is for the dead.” (Why waste your time sleeping when you could be productive)
“SeaWings know their fish and SandWings know their cactuses, but we NightWings know everything else.”(NightWing supremacy propaganda)
“Being nice to a deer never got one in my mouth.” (Other dragons don't matter, only your goals.)
“A prophecy always comes true.” (I told you so but more cryptic)
"You're counting the stars." (You're doing something tedious towards an unachievable goal)
RainWings
“Gray’s her favorite color.” (She's a huge bummer)
“A lemon is yellow on the outside, doesn't mean they're not sour.” (Referring to someone who is two faced or fake)
“I love honey, but I’d rather not get stung by the bees.” (I could do this, but it requires effort so I don't wanna)
“Nobody likes a rotten banana.” (Nobody likes a bummer/downer)
“Don't tie your tail in a knot” (don't get all upset)
“I have all my berries in a basket” (I have everything sorted out)
“You couldn't sneak up on a pineapple” (insult to one's camouflage skills, popular among children)
IceWings
“The seal who asks why the orca is chasing him is the first to get eaten.” (A favorite of parents telling their kids to shut up)
“Not the sharpest icicle on the roof” (kinda stupid or slow)
“Clear as polished ice” (i understand or see it very well)
“You're looking a little pink in the face” (you look sickly. IceWings can turn pink from eating too much krill; a symptom of malnutrition. This line can be applied to any illness.)
“Blue blood kills, red blood spills.” (Patriotic propaganda implying that IceWings win every fight
“The SkyWings toss their blue eyed hatchlings because they're worried they'll be as strong as an IceWing.” (More propaganda)
HiveWings
“Pretty is for the SilkWings.” (Vanity is stupid and impractical)
“If it buzzes like a bug and bites like a bug, it's a bug.” (Don't ignore the obvious)
“Clearsight works in mysterious ways.” (I don't know the answer to your question, now go away)
SilkWings
“It's not always good to know how the honey gets made.” (Don't stick your snout where it doesn't belong)
“She's got a couple of threads loose.” (Calling someone a little crazy, threads refers to weaving)
“The bee minds its flowers and the spider minds her silk, it's when they mix that bad things happen.” (Mind ya business)
LeafWings
“Flytraps only trap because the soil doesn't feed them.” (Dragons don't get angry out of nowhere)
“Looking like a leaf only hides you in the forest.” (Time and place)
“If a branch doesn't bend, it breaks.” (Be flexible)
“Even the corpse flower attracts the flies.” (Even someone who seems ugly to one dragon they can seem irresistible to another)

Well, this was a big piece of work, hah
I took a break from RW and decided to draw something nostalgic
Actually I've been stuck with this idea for two years now and I'm glad I finally found the strength to do something about it. Thanks for inspiration from one good man)
Tumblr media
Long story short
In this AU autobots and deceptions are two unions of different tribes: mudwings, seawings and sandwings for the firsts and icewings, nightwings, rainwings and Pantala tribes for seconds. Skywings doesn’t exist anymore (because we need someone who takes place of predacons).
People are just people or scavenger if you prefer. And instead of whole cosmos it’s just two mainlands.
- Optimus Prime - I kinda like tfp Optimus. So formidable, powerful and mysterious but really gentle at the same time. And mud/sea combo works here in the best way. As the representation of two main tribes union and strong father/brother figure for team members.
I also think he might be an animus (but don’t use his magic often, especially for killing someone)
Tumblr media
- Ultra Magnus - Pure Icewing already will be great for him, but I gave him part of seawing so he could be more like an Optimus. But instead of being softer and warmer, Magnus is more cold and pragmatic version of him. A character who sees other dragons not as close allies and friends but as ordinary soldiers.
Tumblr media
- Ratchet - Yeah, the seawing would fit him better, but i just don’t know how to make the colors work here sooo… he’s a weak-fire mudwing. Like a skywing, but mudwing. Why not. Make sense with his lack of guns in origin. I think he’s design can be better, and maybe I’ll remake it.
I love his arc of recognizing people as equals and especially his interactions with Raphael. I think Ratchet often read him scrolls about history and magical artifacts.
Tumblr media
- Bulkhead - No surprises here - mudwing fit him perfectly. I think that the Wreckers could been a big and strong mudwing troops, and Bulkhead was a bigwings in such a one. He is lost a lot of his siblings during the war, and therefore tries with all his might to protect the new members of his family. I absolutely adore his relationship with Miko and Jackie, so for me he’s one of the cutest character, and I tried to make his forms round and soft.
Tumblr media
- Bumblebee - I know that majority draw him as a hivewing, but in that case the most logical for him will be a night/sandwing. Literally, autobots get their own Sunny)
I think in this version with his lack of a voice he could communicate using sign language or some variation of aquatic.
Tumblr media
- Arcee - Also nothing special - she is a seawing. I originally wanted to give her a helmet but it was too hard to draw. Just like Sunny she was born pretty small and now even younger dragons can be bigger than her. I’m pretty sure she is old enough to have seen Bumblebee when he was a dragonet, so she's literally like an older sister to him.
Actually she really gives me a Queen Glory vibes with her sarcasm and dangerous beauty, so rainwing might fit her as well.
Tumblr media
- Smokescreen - I used to think he was just a cringe, but now I realize he's a pretty interesting and realistic character. Like Ultra Magnus, I wanted to make him look like Optimus, only this time Smoke is more of a younger and much more irresponsible version of him. I think in this version (being part rainwing) he's trying to mimic Optimus's coloring using same red, blue and pale-gray shades.
Tumblr media
- Wheeljack - The scruffy boy! I think in this version he could be Bulkhead's "adopted sibling", so they are really close to each other. And, because he spent most of his life with Bulkhead, it's harder for him to get close to other tribes and dragons.
Painting scales to keep canonical colors is kinda cheating, but for this dude it totally works. He should have a pretty bright appearance with all those scars and bright spots.
Tumblr media
Cliffjumper - Ohoh… this poor guy. I didn't even think of putting him here, but I like his smug face too much. Even making his scales darker than the original, it's still too brightly colored for mudwing. He probably jokes about it a lot, saying that his ancestors were skywings.
I really like his dynamic with Arcee, and it's a shame we haven't seen much of their relationship. I think I need to do something cute about that.

[Wings of Fire] Miscellaneous Headcanons (Part 1)
Hello! Some of my first posts on here are about my tribe headcanons (which I still haven't finished, I need to work on the Pantalan tribe headcanons). This is a collection of headcanons - mostly about the tribes - that were created after those posts.
I'm calling this part one because I anticipate in the future that I'll come up with more after posting these.
RainWings who are more calm have less saturated scales while those who have fierce emotions have brighter colors.
The frills and pattern scales down the sides are the brightest on a RainWing and shift color more frequently than other scales. The scales along their back, shoulders, and talons take longer to change and usually aren't as bright.
Primitive SkyWings were solitary hoarders who spent their lives collecting treasure that they hid in caves. Because of this, they have a tribal history with gold and other riches, making gemstones and gold very valuable to them.
Unlike other tribes, SkyWings do not have scales that help them camouflage because they never had predators in their kingdom, so they evolved to have brighter colors due to there being beauty and desire for those with bright reds, oranges, and yellows.
SandWings value water most.
RainWings value flowers most.
NightWings value knowledge most.
IceWings value crystals most.
MudWings value clay most.
SeaWings value pearls most.
SilkWings value flamesilk most.
HiveWings value honey most.
LeafWings value trees most.
It is a common misconception by the other tribes that SandWings value gold the most.
There is an ancient legend that thousands of years ago, a SandWing witch roamed the deserts who was enchanted by gold. He loved it so much, he wanted to be able to turn anything to gold, so he used dark magic to make it so that everything he touched turned to gold. He became known as Midas. It is unknown what happened to him or if he is even real.
RainWings have juice bars in the RainWing village which serve as local hangout areas.
Similarly, IceWings have taverns.
IceWing horns are very diverse in shape and are often used to identify a dragon.
Each kingdom has its own constitution of laws. Several of these laws exist in all kingdoms and are similarly handled, but some laws have different rules when it comes to types of punishments.
It is possible as a form of punishment for committing a crime to have your ability to challenge for the throne taken away. If this punishment is evoked, the princess is made an ex-princess, essentially unowned from the royal family, and if they tried to challenge for the throne, they would be denied the ability. This also makes it so that the princess can not inherit the throne if the current queen dies, and it will go to the next best suited dragon, even if there are none in the royal family.
IceWings have soft underscales with harder scales along their sides and back. The scales on their head, back, tail, and talons are thicker and more protective due to their use of frostbreath, serrated claws, and their spiked tails in battle. Their cold scales can make them hard to grasp and their long horns protect the back of their neck and back. The scales on their forearms and legs can become brittle and sharp to protect them while using their claws. The same goes for the scales on the thick parts of their wings to protect them when using their wing claw. Their wings are thick with strong membranes.
MudWings have armor-like, thick scales across their entire body, with their most vulnerable being their underscales which are slightly softer. They have thick, dense wings with thick membranes between their wing digits. Their claws are thick and the scales on their head protect them due to their use of firebreath in battle. Their thick tail is also protected by thick scales.
NightWings have softer, more flexible scales that aren’t very thick or protective. The scales on their neck and tail are thicker, but the ones down their arms, legs, wings, and across their face are sensitive. The scales on their head protect their eyes and nose for their night vision and sense of smell, as well as their use of fire. Their wings are smaller and light, meant to help them fly with minimal sound.
RainWings have soft and flexible scales that are not thick or protective. The scales down their arms, shoulders, head, and legs are thicker and more protective. They have protective scales on their snout due to their use of venom. The scales around their eyes are also protective to protect their vision. They have a small build to help them move quieter and sneakier while trying to stay hidden with their camouflage.
SandWings have soft, dry underscales, but the rest of their scales are thick and protective. Their sail can easily be torn however, and their forearms and legs are vulnerable. The scales and spike on the tip of their snout protect them while using their firebreath and their thick scales and sail protect their tail while using their barb. The ridged scales on their forearms and legs also protect them while using their claws. The ridged scales on the tops of their wings protect them from attack from above. SandWing wings have thick membranes and strong wings that could be used like a shield if needed.
SeaWings have softer scales besides for the scales around their gills which are protective. Their scales are often slippery when even the smallest bit wet, making them hard to catch and not so easy to scratch with claws. Their forearms and legs are protected by thicker scales due to their use of their hooked claws in combat.
SkyWings have soft underscales with denser and more protective side scales, although their back scales are the most protective. The scales around their claws and snout are protected due to their use of claws and fire in combat. The thicker part of their wings is also protected and strong due to their powerful flight, but the ends of their wing digits are vulnerable and their wing membrane is thinner near the edges of their wings.
HiveWings have thick scales all over their body, protecting them all over. They have weaker scales on the insides of their upper arms, legs, and wings. Their long spines protect their neck and back while their large horns protect their head. The scales on the top of their head protect their face for HiveWings who have an ability such as venom or acid. The scales on their forearms and legs protect their use of claw-related weapons. Their slick, whip-like tails make them hard to grasp and quicker to use if they have a tail-related ability. Their wings are light and vulnerable, especially their membrane.
SilkWings have soft underscales with slightly thicker side scales, similar to that of a NightWing. The scales on their shoulders, arms, legs, and wings are more protective. Their wing scales are strong, protecting their wings, and they have thick membranes between their wing digits. Their large horns protect their antennae and their forearm scales protect them due to their silk-spinning ability.
LeafWings have overall soft scales with scattered dense scales and thick scales down their back. The scales on their head and horns are protective, as well as the scales on their shoulders. Their scales can be slippery when wet, making them hard to grip and giving them an easier time in the water. LeafWings have an aquatic advantage in Pantala, being able to fly when their wings are drenched.
The MudWing army typically does not draft soldiers. Due to the tribe’s large population, there are usually more than enough dragons enlisting in the military for there to not have to be mandatory service. In times of war, this is (in most cases) true. During the War of SandWing Succession, both Blister and Burn threatened Moorhen into an alliance and due to the brutality of the war, a draft did have to be put into place due to the advances the sisters wanted to make. If Moorhen were to have disobeyed the sisters, they would have used their other allies to attack the MudWings.
The MudWing army is led by a general, typically one who graduated from Crane's Academy for Gifted MudWings in the palace.
MudWings wear minimal armor in battle as their scales are already armor-like. MudWing armor consists of a loose breastplate that protects the front underbelly where MudWings are commonly attacked due to it being a weak point. This armor, while in flight, also protects the underbelly. MudWing armor is loose to maximize mobility and flexibility yet heavy and impenetrable.
The MudWing weak spot is the underbelly along their neck.
The SandWing military is one of the largest ones of Pyrrhia. In times of peace, there are more than enough SandWings enlisting and the military has special programs designed for older dragonets to train them before becoming an official soldier. During the War of SandWing Succession, burn called a draft for all SandWings who didn't already have a valuable job that contributed to the war effort. Blister's SandWings were voluntarily soldiers under her while Blaze's were scared away by the other two sisters and willingly served under her. Blister required her SandWings to do something related to the war effort, but Blaze did not make it mandatory and some SandWings on her side did not have to have a military position.
The SandWing army is led by a lieutenant general who is a soldier who rises in the ranks of the army.
SandWing armor typically consists of a helmet, breastplate, arm, and leg plates. They consist of light metal held by leather belts. The metal is a thin yet unmeltable layer that protects the areas from harm. SandWings are quick and the armor stays out of the way of hindering their mobility. Due to their thick scales, SandWings don't require much protection, the armor focuses on their softer spots.
The SandWing weak spot is their forearms and forelegs.
The SkyWings have one of the largest armies of Pyrrhia, known as the air force. In times of peace, SkyWings had a mandatory service period of three years if a SkyWing had not served before their twentieth hatching day, although some SkyWings could be exempt from serving if they had another valuable position. During the war of SandWing Succession, hundreds of SkyWings were drafted into the military. Scarlet willingly allied with Burn, admiring the SandWing's brutality and thirst for blood, something they shared. Burn also promised Scarlet a large sum of treasure, something the SandWing did not care much for but Scarlet did.
The SkyWing air force is led by a pilot general. The pilot general is typically a soldier who rose up the ranks in the air force, although in recent years, they also had to flatter their queens to get the position.
SkyWing armor consists of a helmet to protect the eyes and snout as well as a chest piece that protects the more vulnerable part of their underbelly. Their armor is made of a strong, black metal
The SeaWings have a very strong military, known as the navy. In times of peace, the SeaWings did not draft soldiers, there being enough dragons enlisting. During the War of SandWing Succession however, soldiers were drafted for a minimum service of two years if they didn't already contribute to the war effort directly in some way. The military is led by a commander who takes the war position in the queen's council. Coral made an alliance with Blister because she believed that Blister was intelligent and the SandWing manipulated Coral into thinking that she would be a helpful ally to the SeaWings.
The SeaWing navy is led by a commander general. The commander general is in the war pool of the queen's council and is typically from a noble family who enlisted in the royal branch of the navy.
Historically, the RainWings had a fiercely powerful army. Ever since the tribe’s establishment, they had to be powerful in order to keep their territory in the Rainforest Kingdom which was full of resources and abundant food. Due to the immense power of the RainWings and their thorough training through government supported programs, the RainWings never had to draft soldiers as those who enlisted willingly were enough. After Queen Jacaranda, the RainWings became less ferocious and became a more peaceful tribe, eventually losing their military as a whole. After Queen Glory took over as queen, she, with the help of Tsunami, trained RainWings to once again be able to defend themselves, eventually growing back a small army. Due to there being peace at the time, no RainWings had to be drafted, but Deathbringer continues to train RainWings to be soldiers.
The RainWing army is led by a sergeant who rises in the ranks of the military. They are often relatives of the queens, princesses or princes.
The IceWings have the strictest and most organized military of all the tribes. All IceWings in the circle rankings did military training starting as dragonets. After they are moved to the adult wall, a large number of IceWings will become official soldiers in the IceWing military. IceWings do not have required service as all noble IceWings have military training. During times of war, low class IceWings may be drafted, although IceWings in the outer and more isolated villages are rarely enforced/rounded up to be sent off as troops. During the War of SandWing Succession, Glacier took Blaze in because she was the only of the SandWing sisters who gave the IceWings the land on the border of the kingdom. Glacier did grow fond of Blaze during the war, but when it ended, they were no longer in contact.
The IceWing military is led by a colonel general who is typically an IceWing nobility. This high ranking position is extremely competitive and to get it, a dragonet must graduate at the top of the dragonet ranking wall and continue to claw their way up on the adult wall.
When MudWings hatch, they don’t name themselves for a while. Before they name themselves, they refer to each other simply as “sib”, “sister”, or “brother”. They may also refer to each other as their title (i.e. “bigwings”, “communicator”, “medic”, “treasurer”, “gatherer”)

Charts relating to my WOF rewrite that I’ve been chipping away at in my brain! More details below <3
I have 1001 gripes with Pantala and arc 3, which. I know, not an original thought, but still. And I’m getting this out of the way immediately:
there is no dragon slavery in my rewrite.
I am in no position to tackle such a topic and in my opinion, neither was Tui, which may be a bit mean. I think she did a great job creating a series that so many people love but the dragon slavery is not needed and it is handled sloppily at best and very, very inappropriately at worst. I am not willing to fumble my way through a topic that is so heavy and that I do not fully understand the ramifications of and cannot ever fully understand the ramifications of. I don’t know how to write dragons dealing with being enslaved and having to figure out how to dismantle the entire social structure that did this to them and no, I don’t think saying it was a few bad dragons with some evil plant is a good enough answer for all of it. So it is being cut from my rewrite and the focus of Arc 3 (so far, always subject to change) will be just the Othermind.
But those points aside, let’s get into my Pantala thoughts!
Pantala always felt so empty to me compared to Pyrrhia, it just feels undercooked. It’s a continent of the same size but it feels like we see none of it, none of the landmarks other than the jungle, the hives, and the pit where the Othermind is feel memorable. Partially I think Pantala just was underdeveloped- the first book of arc three and the last book of arc two came out within a year of each other, it wasn’t given enough time to work itself out it seems. Another reason I think it feels so empty is because there are only three dragon tribes on it- while again, Pyrrhia is the same size and is hosting seven different tribes. Having three tribes is limiting, especially when two are living in the same environment together and the other is pushed to the furthest corner of the continent away from everything else. All action then either has to occur in the jungle or in the savanna as those are the only population centers anywhere, that’s pretty limiting- so limiting that one of the books took place BACK ON PYRRHIA because there seemed to be just so little to do on Pantala. Working out things like towns, important landmarks, etc is something I’m working on but expanding the tribe list will help me do so.
NOTE: WITH ALL THE FANTRIBES IM SURE THESE NAMES HAVE BEEN USED BEFORE AND ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE
Pantalan Tribes:
SilkWings- Colorful, four winged dragons that live in the mountainous forests on the ‘wing’ of Pantala. They can produce silk from their wrists. They undergo metamorphosis to get their wings at 7 years old
Queen: Monarch
HiveWings- Four winged dragons that do not undergo metamorphosis. They are often yellow, orange, red, or black. They have stingers on their tails and in their wrists. They live in the savannas of Pantala
Queen: Wasp
LeafWings- Two-winged dragons that live in the jungle on the head of Pantala. They come in greens and browns and are known for their Leafspeak. They are also mildly poisonous and can produce a foul-smelling mucus from their mouths.
Queen: Sequoia/ Belladonna
BeelteWings- Two-winged dragons, easily mistaken for four-winged due to their Elytra. These colorful dragons live on the 2nd wing of Pantala and are known for their strong, armored scales. They can produce a hot, acidic liquid from their tails if threatened, but this is very taxing on them.
Queen: Scarab
DamselWings- four-winged dragons, live on the tail and the tips of the claws of Pantala. These dragons come in blues, greens, purples, and pinks. They are incredibly fast, fastest of all Pantalan tribes, they have no natural defenses beyond their speed.
Queen: Meadowhawk
WebWings- no-winged dragons that live in the massive tunnels beneath Pantala. These dragons traded their flight ability for stronger silk and sturdier bodies. They come in blacks, grays, and browns. They have a venomous bite.
Queen: Widow
The tribe name for BeetleWings is also subject to change as I’m not huge on it but we’ll see.
Right now in my mind- The main conflict, prior to the discovery of the Othermind, is the HiveWing's constant grab for power. They've chased the other tribes to the edges of Pantala/ down into their tunnels through violence and shady territory deals. This issue was started by Wasp's grandmother and has persisted into the modern age. The other tribes are beginning to feel the pressures of being so condensed, their resources beginning to dwindle. Truthfully I don't have much yet. I think developing Pantala, it's tribes, and whether I'm going to take away/add tribes has to come first and all that <33

wof scale color headcanons fuck canon yeahhh
All tribes under the cut if I did it right
NightWings - any hue as long as it's dark. NightWings consider darker scales to be prettier and pitch-black is seen as mysterious and aristocratic. The "silver" scales on the wings and trailing down the neck etc can be pastel colors or even iridescent. Some NightWings with distant SeaWing blood have glowing silver scales. Prophets also have a "third eye" silver scale, similar to mind reader's teardrops. Their scales have near invisible markings like panthers and black cats, such as stripes and rosettes. They also rust in the daylight like cats do!
SandWings can be a much wider range of sandy colors, from white to tan to yellow to brown to oranges and pinks even, orangey reds and some blacks. They tend to have patterns that are fractal-like or repeating rather than random splotches and such. The keratin on their stinger is the same color as their claws and horns. SandWings with more symmetrical patterns are considered prettier.
LeafWings typically come in greens, but also browns, golds, yellows, oranges, reds, and sometimes blues and even the rare purple. Like albino plants, albino LeafWings struggle to get nutrients as they can't produce chloroform, so if they don't have strong enough leafspeak they die pretty young. Summer born LeafWings have richer, more vibrant hues, autumnal ones are brighter and often have gold patches or patterns, winter makes scales cooler toned and duller colored, and spring makes lighter and shinier scales. LeafWings have a beauty standard of larger, healthier scales, regardless of color.
IceWings can be any off-white or silvery color, with slight darker markings and some vibrant cooler tones. Their scales have a natural shine, and lighter, even opalescent scales are the beauty standard. Commoners have brown and grey scales sometimes but these are definitely considered a mark of the poor. Another strived for marking is striations of any kind, especially those that are warm-toned or opalescent.
MudWings can be any brown, from deep red to planty green, light to dark and dull to vibrant. Potentially from proximity to SeaWings and distant blood, some MudWings have a "rusted" look of having warm base colors and markings fading to greens and blues. MudWings are the most common to be albino, leustic, piebald, or melanistic. Albino MudWings are white and pink, while leustics are white and yellowy- orange. They can also be shades of grey and occassionally black, and beauty standard is defined by the amount and appeal of the gold scales found on all MudWings.
SkyWings can be any warm color, typically red to orange, but also vibrant pink and magenta, rarely yellow, and even more rarely purple, usually only seen in the royal family. Brighter scales indicate more time outside and health, and though they can't be shiny or iridescent they love inlaying gems to create that effect. Blue scales are rumored to be a telltale sign of firescales, and though all firescales have blue scales, not all blue is firescales. Beauty standard prefers richer, darker colors, and watery or lighter shades are seen as weaker.
SeaWings can be So Many Colors. You usually find the blues and greens and sometimes pink and purples but the reef dwellers come in all the warmer colors. Interestingly, white and black markings are sparse and never the full dragon unless albino or melanistic. Piebald often results in pink or lavender marking, or even light cyan, and leustic SeaWings are known to be light blues and pinks. Vibrant, dark scales are preferred, and swirls are associated with power and royalty.
HiveWings all have some black scales, whether just a handful or nearly jet-black. Contrary to popular belief, Clearsight is not the sole reason for black scales; an interesting trait that started showing up after she arrived was pseudomelanism, a dominant trait causing all HiveWings to have black markings. Interestingly, albinism and leustism do not erase black scales, but albinism does soften them. Otherwise, HiveWings are typically warm toned, the general populace being yellow, orange and brown, red being an appealing color, and dark green being the rarest and most attractive. They can also being lighter tans and faded pinks, but the colors are looked down on.
SilkWings can be any color, and barring melanism, except black. Their patterns can change over their lifetime, gradually becoming more complex, vibrant, and appealing with age. All SilkWings are metallic or iridescent to some degree, except on the wing membrane. The wing membrane is either scaled and colorful (moth and butterfly) or translucent and shimmering (dragonfly). Circular, ring, or banded patterns are considered prettier and almost royal.
RainWings come in every color under the sun, yet never have shiny, iridescent, opalescent, or metallic scales. Individuals are recognized by resting patterns on theit scales such as circles, zigzags, splotches, or freckles than reflect secondary emotions or designs. Although they can replicate another's pattern quite accurately, the pattern they are born with lasts until death. In more competitive and regal places, RainWings are purple, pink, and yellow, and see showing emotion as weak.

New idea for a HiveMind/Drone/Wings of Fire and Platonic Yan X-Men AU:
Imagine that the HiveWings and SilkWings kinda ended up back together, having enough hybrids, who slowly made their own tribe: The VenomWings.
The VenomWings have two variants: bee and moth, or Hive and Silk. The traits that are shared between all of the VenomWings are:
• Three eyes
• Four wings
• A tail stinger (doesn't always mean they have venom)
• Silk glands
• Grow their wings at around 4 or 5 years old (12 to 15 in human years)
• Have antenna
• Are part of a tribe-wide hivemind
• Have small honey glands nestled under their silk glands
Special traits of the bee/Hive variant include:
• A HiveWing ability (such as a different venom or stinger, stench powers, can shoot acid, have parlayzing/deadly/knock-out toxins, etc. )
• Thinner wings than the moth/Silk variants
• Are mainly warmer colors, such as red, orange, or yellow, but always have some black
• Have a tail stinger that has converting venom, which when injected into a dragon from another tribe, will change them into a VenomWing
Special traits of the moth/Silk variant include:
• The ability to spin all the different kinds of silk
• Wider wings than the bee/Hive variants
• Can be any color, mainly lighter or neutral, but always have some black or darker scales
• Have the ability to sense the vibrations in the air with their antenna
The VenomWings aren't exactly malevolent. The adult mutants are VenomWings (born that way or converted). Their idea of spreading peace and safety is to convert any dragons who enter their territory into VenimWings as well. If the dragon is an adult, they are put in a special adult Chrysalis room, where they will, once having been fully turned, join the HiveMind and fall into line. If the dragon is a young adult or younger, they will be taken to a special (and heavily guarded) dragonet Chrysalis room, where they will be in their Chrysalis longer than an adult would be, due to having to grow down their wings and have what is essentially child-safety locks in their mind.
The Chrysalises are formed by a VenomWing around a dragon who has been injected with the conversion venom special to the Hive variants, as well as given a sedative or drug to keep them calm and less fearful. The Chrysalises are like sleeping bags, where they can hold the dragon's full body, but can be sealed up from the outside, thus cocooning them inside. A dragonet Chrysalis is called a Cocoon. The Chrysalises/Cocoons are breathable, so a dragon may be sealed in completely. The Chrysalises/Cocoons are then wrapped in/stuck to thicker, stretched strands of silk, which suspend them between the walls of the Chrysalis/Cocoon room, above the ground. These are monitored and checked on regularly, being cleaned or moved if needed.
The honey produced from the VenomWing honey glands is fed to the dragonets after their conversion, as it acts as a sedative, is full of nutrients and vitamins, and also strengthens the hold of the HiveMind. Dragonets are treated with utmost care and gentleness, having a special hatchery room just for them, which is guarded by the strongest, most dangerous of the VenomWings. If a scavenger (human) were to harm a dragonet, a dragonet in a Cocoon, or an egg... they'd be tortured and killed in the most painful ways possible.
This AU, called the 🍯Honey and Venom🧪 AU, has its own 🥚Tiny Talons🐉 AU which I will call the 🥚Tiny Sting🐝 AU, and it would have the converted dragonets turn into baby dragonets as well, instead of sticking to their original age.
When the dragonets emerge from their Cocoon in either AU, they have a Naming Ceremony, where besides their original name, they gain their VenomWing name, which they will slowly start to be called by. Depending on the au, the honey and possibly venom helps to muddle the dragons' thoughts, slowly fading their pasts from their minds, until until can only remember being a VenomWing, and having their loving Hive care for them...
These AUs are kinda sweet, kinda frightening, and have different ways for their paths to go...

i feel like the different dragon tribes have like some fashion styles specific to their tribe
seawings - anything with red, or pearls. Bonus if it's red pearls. it just makes them POP. seawings with red is stunning
skywings - long flowy things tied around the tail. Think like Toothless . They carve different designs and each one represents something. and some jewelry, with jasper and ruby being the most popular choices for jewelry.
rainwings - jewelry. so much jewelry. opals especially. they also like bright colored things. They wear like those drooping crowns with rainbows of rocks on them. They also wear anklets with even more jewelery.
icewings - fur! fur is a big fashion style in the icewing kingdom, not only does it make them warm but they just like how it looks. your usual day in the icewing kingdom, you will see at least half the icewings wearing something with fur. if they wear crystals, it's going to be an opal probably.
sandwings - sandwings are big on earrings and tail jewelry. like bracelets but on your tail. they particularly like onyx and obsidian, for obvious reasons. (eye of onyx). jasper is also common here.
nightwings - very mysterious guys. their style is usually consistently of white clothing. long beautiful robes darn them. they also like to wear crystals like other tribes. they use crystals for spiritual reasons, so there is no popular rock in this area.
silkwings - they like bugs. a lot. y'know those things were they like preserve like a scorpion in a crystal? they wear those a lot. tail braclet things, anklets, horn jewelry, earrings, etc. anywhere they can put it. they also like to wear gold horn rings. they also adore labradorite, many wear them as anklets.
hivewings - they like to wear drooping crown things like the rainwings. theirs consist of pearls and bee wings, as well as carved things to look like honey. some also add citrine.
leafwings - they love fruit accessories, they think they're adorable. earrings that look like a mango would probably make them go insane in a good way. they also wear a horn accessory that looks like a snake crawling up, and the snake is usually gold. they adore malachite over here, with many wearing them as necklaces. their necklaces sometimes also have moonstone. some also wear white robes, like nightwings.

random roller coasters and the WOF dragon I associate them with
yeah it’s me your boy smashing together two of my unrelated interests again. Little to no explanation here. Just based on vibes
SteVe: SandWing, has a cool metal tail prosthetic that shoots projectiles, wears a cowboy hat
maverick: SandWing/SkyWing hybrid, small and fast, wears a cowboy hat too, and a cool bandana
Millenium Force: IceWing. Cool calm collected. Elegant. Seems strong up front, but is actually very gentle.
Top Thrill 2: pure Skywing. Built for speed. Red with black and white aspects. Wears cool goggles. Part of a racing team.
Gatekeeper: IceWing/Skywing. Very graceful, not very powerful. Has a big key necklace, mans the ice wall
Rougarou: MudWing/Leafwing/IceWing. Giant fluffy swamp monster. Stole territory from a HiveWing a while ago no one really likes them. Very gruff and grumbly.
Great Bear: MudWing/NightWing/IceWing. Giant fluffy monster. Lives in a cave and is purely nocturnal.
Stormrunner: pure Skywing. Very speedy, a bit cocky but can back it up. Can do cool tricks like barrel rolls.
Skyrush: SkyWing/SeaWing. Very SkyWing heavy, but has the colors of a SeaWing. Cocky but can’t back it up. Low key very uncomfortable to be around because they’re kind of a jerk
Laff Trak: RainWing. Trying their best and actually doing pretty good. But watch out, they have a dark side.
Fury 325: HiveWing/IceWing. Super fast and powerful. Blue poison breath. Has tail stinger too.
Pantherian: RainWing/SkyWing. Lives in the jungle. Is wicked fast in the trees and is unmatched at races in tight spaces. Skywing father was a renowned Skywing racer.
Iron Gwazi: SeaWing/Mudwing. Big, powerful, fast. Can and will snap your neck when asked. Super cool purple green color scheme. Very crocodile like with neat tiger stripes.
Cheetah Hunt: Leafwinf/Skywinf/RainWing. Thinks they’re a bit faster than they truly are. But are a ton of fun. Neat little spots. Is a naturalist and observes wildlife.
Pantheon: HiveWing/Skywing. Quick witted and very smart. Great at building. Has cute nerdy glasses.
Verbolten: leafwinf. Poisonwing, lives alone in the jungle and kid naps dragonets to use for…something.
Darkoaster: NightWings. Very spooky. Loves ghost stories. Lives in the weird nightwing ruins, but purposefully keeps them as ruins.
Kingda Ka: an ancient Skywing/Silkwing prince hybrid. Well loved by all tribes for their speed and grace. Taken down in their prime with no warning.
El Toro: SandWing/HiveWing/SkyWing. Gritty and tough. Will jerk you around. Doesn’t take well to weaklings. But if you’re on their good side. You’re set for life.
Phantom’s Revenge: NightWing. His name is phantom’s revenge, you killed his father, prepare to die.
Thunderbolt: Elderly Skywing. A bit rickety in the wings, but still quick. Goes by old racing name Pippin to good friends.
Jack Rabbit: RainWing/Sandwing. Cute and fun. Wears meet fur cloaks. Is very good at jumping.
Iron Menace: SandWing/HiveWing. Old beyond their years. Literally, they look older than they should. Too much time by the fire they tend as a blacksmith I guess. Had a bad right wing leading to jilted flying.
Talon: SkyWing. Just a cool SkyWing. Nothing fancy, but fast and smooth flyer.
Mako: SeaWing. Very good swimmer. Has a pet shark.
Icebreaker: SeaWing/Icewing. Very good at breaking up ice flows and hunting walruses and seals. Wears cute orange colored furs when not swimming.
Pipeline: SeaWing/RainWing. Like cowabunga dude. Totally wicked cool. Legit surfs

21 for redux, 26, 30, 40 and 41
[questions for fic writers]
21. If you wrote a “missing scene” in redux, what would it be?
scene of penguin & mr. freeze disposing of jason's body, maybe. :) the panicked 'oh fuck we actually killed him' and then having to get rid of his corpse quickly before the bats find out what happened.
idk. redux doesn't really have space for a missing scene, beyond an alt pov maybe. bruce was injured and forcibly benched in the batcave and that's why he was able to get on the plane that quickly. and i don't think i ever even allude to that in the fic so i suppose that's something i could explore!
26. Would you rather write a fic that had no dialogue or one that was only dialogue?
only dialogue i love dialogue dialogue is my favorite thing to write. sometimes when i'm drafting a scene i'll write the dialogue first and add in the tags and actions in post.
dialogue and conversation and communication. i adore that shit.
honestly i think trying to write a longer no dialogue fic could be interesting? one where you have multiple characters who are doing things... emphasizing nonverbal communication and motion and all of that. could be fun, but it would be a challenge, so i do prefer only dialogue at the end of the day.
30. Have you ever written something that was out of your comfort zone? If so, what was it, and how did it affect your approach to writing fic thereafter?
hmmmmm i'm not linking it (and it's not on ao3 anyway) but Under False Pretenses. it's a 27k wings of fire fanfiction about my ocs. it was the longest thing i've ever written, at that point, back in 2022 i think. i had it planned out completely and it dug into a terribly messy character dynamic (izula was a hivewing & psyche was a silkwing in a society where silkwings are functionally slaves, what they had was almost a romance but izula was actively serial murdering silkwings... lots going on in that fic.)
it was my first real foray into something longer than thousand word snippets. and i think it gave me a lot of confidence in knowing that i am capable of writing and planning longer things. that i can put together a worthwhile narrative.
it taught me a lot about how to plan out and write a fic i think. i made mistakes putting it together that means i'm not super proud of the final product but it was a big first for me.
40. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?
depends on the fic but i 100% do reread my favorites!! sometimes i'll dig back through longfics just to relive a specific scene if it sticks in my brain. this happens a lot with the climatic scenes of poisonivory's jayroy fics.
earliest batfam fic i found that i still go back and reread from is Bleed the Poison Out (What’s Left Behind?) i think. i'll just dip back in and read through chapter 5. i will warn you that this is a 'titan's tower was a murder attempt' pit-mad jason fic with associated fanon characterizations and tropes that i avoid nowadays. chapter 5 still does things to me emotionally. the author also wrote Aftermath which is a bruce & jason fic i will wholeheartedly rec in its entirety i love that thing <3
there's also Triple Red (wc x dc jayroy) but that is a feast best experienced in its entirety. all 80k words in one sitting or nothing. Stable Relationships is also a jayroy fic I've been rereading. we've barely even started this slowburn and i'm already obsessed. i'm starting to suspect i might like jayroy.
anyway i swear there are more that i'm failing to remember right now. i'll also reread my own fics. shamelessly. i love and adore you compound fracture i am thinking of you always compound fracture compound fracture you look stunning today.
41. Link a fic that made you think, “Wow, I want to write like that.”
answered here but since there are many fics that i admire forever...
i wont write like this because it's a certain level of meticulousness that i just know i'm not willing to dedicate the time to achieving, but hey it's time to mention door, opening again. the sheer level of detail in every single line... i am mesmerized. jason's knowledge and competence comes through in the narration simply because! he knows so much shit! on such a level of detail! out here naming specific muscle groups and chemical makeups and types of radio communication. absolutely incredible. the mere act of reading it made me feel smart.

more WoF tribe hcs because I feel like it
SandWings often swallow their prey whole like a snake
RainWings, when telling stories, subconsciously change their scales to vaguely match those of the dragons in the story. They find it hard to follow stories told by non-RainWings because they rely somewhat on visual cues. Ex: Kinkajou telling Moon about something Winter said and her scales turning white and blue without her thinking about it.
Dragon wing gestures are something not enough ppl talk about but I love thinking about wing movement as it relates to body language. Wings flared to try to intimidate or to convey excitement, wings swept outward and horizontally to gesture to their surroundings, wings used to point at things, to wave hello or goodbye, RainWing wings outstretched and turned red in a gesture not unlike a middle finger, wings pulled back in shock, wings poised to launch into the air in a fight or flight response when startled, etc etc just WING RELATED BODY LANGUAGE/GESTURES!
SkyWings also 100% have at LEAST 30 rude gestures you can do with ur wings
LeafWings have prehensile tails like RainWings
RainWings as well as IceWings have an incredible ability to right themselves in the air when knocked off balance, kinda like cats lol
SandWings would too bc sandstorms
SandWings are actually really good swimmers
MudWings don't swim but walk along the bottom of the lake/river like a hippo
When RainWings trip on frog poison, their scales turn neon colors
SkyWings have extremely well developed vision and can see insane detail from very far away, like an eagle.
RainWings have courtship dances.
Typically, male RainWings and SkyWings have brighter colors and male SkyWings are more commonly red.
Similarly, blue SeaWings are more commonly male.
HiveWings can be hot pink. (Inspiration from that one kind of grasshopper)
Procreation between NightWings and SeaWings sometimes creates children with bioluminescent black lights.
RainWings can learn to speak Aquatic through scale color changes, though it only works with daylight because their scales are only color changing and not bioluminescent.
SeaWings can get high from pufferfish poison, like dolphins.
SeaWings get sick when they transfer from fresh water to salt water and vice versa, similar to altitude sickness.
SkyWings anatomically have the largest hearts of any tribe. (Ah, the irony)
If they eat too many shrimp or similar seafood, IceWings can turn pink. (It's not cute though, it's often a sign of malnourishment.)
RainWings, LeafWings and NightWings are the only tribes able to eat chocolate without getting sick.
Many NightWings are colorblind, but can see colors in visions of the future.
RainWings can mimick sounds and even voices with bonechilling accuracy.
Pantalan dragons do not have forked tongues.

Howdy! I thought it’d be fun to see if we can answer any of y’all questions!
Peace… introductions…
Oh heheh. Right. Howdy! Again! I’m Peacemaker! I’m 4, nightwing, rainwing, I use He/Him pronouns, and according to my awesome moms, a really good chef! I like strawberries and math and my friends and really there’s just so much to enjoy in life. My step sister Moon sometimes gives me weird looks but eh, anyone would if they knew what I think about.
Hi… You can call me Auklet… Mom would want you to call me Princess Auklet but just Auklet is fine… I’m 4 and a seawing. I use she/they pronouns. I like acting if that’s anything. Acting and reading. Mom thinks someday I should take over and continue writing afterwards but… I’m no good at writing stories, only telling them.
C’mon Auklet you underestimate yourself. Anyways, I’m Cliff. 4 years old, Skywing Prince. He/they pronouns. I got the leading role in our school musical this year. (Auklet also got a leading role. Three moons, she’s so talented, don’t let her convince you otherwise) I also composed the Skywing anthem (well ok I composed the first draft then they got this super uptight guy to come in and change everything) but y’know it’s whatever. I’m also in the Jade Mountain Choir if that’s anything.
Hey all, Bumblebee here. I’m 3, I use he/her pronouns, and I’m actually a Hivewing transfer student. It’s definitely been weird adjusting to Pyrrhian culture, and I definitely wasn’t completely on board at first, but my winglet has been nothing but welcoming. I love writing about nearly anything. I’ve been working on this cool story about a hybrid vigilante who lost his parents as a dragonet and uses that as motivation to fight crime and save lives. Uh anyway. Although I do miss Blue, Cricket, and Snoodew, I’ve still found a place here in Pyrrhia.
Hi everywone. I’m Mink! She/they. 5 years old, Icewing princess with the best big sis in the whole wide wowld! I’ve been told I have a bit of a speech impemdiment but das okay. So what if dragons think I talk weird? They talk weird too. When I was younger I was hoping I’d someday be queen but I’m not sure now… Snowfall’s so nice and so cool. I like art and stuff. Sculping, drawing, anything. It’s fun to express myself to others.
Oh awlso. To make things eesier, we use color coded wowds. Peace uses puhple. Auklet uses green. Cliff uses red. Bumblebee uses Orange. And I use white/black.
Feel free to ask us anything you want. Within reason of course.

So anyways I wrote a oneshot about the hatching of my OC Brightmoon
-----
Her first memory was being surrounded by darkness and feeling the need to escape.
Outside, there was talking.
"Tonight. Tonight. Tonight."
The voice was comforting. Worried. Stressing. Warm. Welcoming.
She slammed at the edge of the darkness, and she felt it shift. But the darkness did not crack.
The voice shifted.
"It's happening. It's happening. It's happening."
She slammed again.
Through the darkness, she could feel someone staring at her intently. Staring with worry and stress and warmth and happiness.
Finally, there was a crack in the darkness. Moonlight shined through it. The promise that the slamming was working.
Then, as she slammed again, the darkness finally cracked open, and she was poured out before starry skies, bathing in moonlight, and sitting before kind, relieved, happy eyes.
She could not understand the words, and yet, there was a distinct comfort seeping from him.
He lunged forward and picked her up gently.
"Hello. I'm going to call you Brightmoon. I am Astrophile, but you may call me Grandfather."
There was a very peaceful, relaxed smile on his face, as if relieved for reasons a just-hatched dragonet wouldn't understand.
Then, the warmth and happiness, out of nowhere, shifted to complete shock. Not disgust, not anger, not disappointment, but shock. Shock so heavy Grandfather nearly dropped her.
"Four... four wings?" Grandfather muttered.
"Four wings. Yellow underscales. Red splotches."
This time, his mutters weren't questions. The shock hadn't left him, but it had faded.
"So, you're a NightWing-HiveWing hybrid, aren't you?"
Brightmoon did not understand what the words meant, but she would in a few short years. And very quickly, she would understand what those words meant when it came to how other dragons treated her. But Grandfather was not one of those dragons.
"I will love you no matter what."

Headcanons, design notes and other stuff (+ height chart)
Tumblr media
PEPPINO:
Full Nightwing, his white markings are from piebaldism, to resemble his tank top and moustache.
He can foresee the future, but only the WORST possible outcomes of events. This is one of the reasons he's so anxious.
He still runs a pizza store (I believe it was mentioned nightwings had invented at least cheese in darkstalker?? Idk it's been a while) and not much changes there.
He's smaller than the average dragon, though not by too much.
GUSTAVO AND BRICK:
Gustavo is a mud/ice hybrid and Brick is a human. Gustavo's tiny size compared to most dragons makes him the perfect size steed for Brick. Brick speaks both human and dragon, and Gustavo knows a small amount of the human language, though not much.
They work with peppino, helping him run his store.
Gustavo is FLUFFY! He can breathe fire instead of frost breath, and was also born from a blood red egg, which makes his scales fireproof, but not his fur. If he ever caught alight, it'd just make him bald for a while.
MR STICK:
Isn't laid back and happy go lucky like most rainwings. He was never invited to join their games and such when he was a child, and so he taught himself how to scam people instead of socializing.
He keeps his colours as bright as possible and always has his frills extended to intimidate people as much as he can. He never got the hang of spitting venom and can't use it as a defense.
The mark on his chest is a venom scar he got from trying to scam the wrong person (believe it or not, dragons are a lot easier to anger than humans). He also got hit near the eyes, irreversibly fucking up his eyesight which is why he wears glasses.
He's taller and slimmer than the average dragon, despite having an omnivorous diet, he always looks gaunt and underfed. That's just how he is.
PEPPERMAN:
Mud/leaf hybrid with leafspeak powers. He uses it to make sculptures from living plants and the like.
Very strong. He's friendly to almost everyone, although a bit too egotistical, but you don't want to anger him. You probably won't survive.
He's very rich, though not royal in any way. He made his money honestly (or so he claims). He also has a fair share of Animus touched objects he's collected, though most if not all have no other purpose other than being pretty.
THE VIGILANTE:
Sandwing... Well... Vigilante. Was born with a rattle instead of a venomous barb and was raised as a simple farmer boy. But after his grandfather was killed by a gang, he vowed to stop as many criminals as possible.
Picked up several scars from fighting crime, however despite being laughably tiny, and having no venom, he's not yet lost against an opponent. He's feared by law breakers and makers alike, and not even queens dare to contest him.
Spends time hanging out with Noisette and Pepperman when not fighting crime. He and Pepperman are unlikely friends, given they're almost polar opposites.
THE NOISE:
Hivewing daredevil. Is known throughout both continents for his escapades, and also because he somehow wooed the Silkwing princess into loving him.
He does have venom, however it isn't fatal, being stung will only cause the effects of a small bug bite.
He has short, velvety fuzz like that of a bumblebee, though his wings are oddly mosquito-like compared to the average Hivewing. He's also very scrawny and small for a Hivewing, which adds to his disheveled rat-like appearance. Despite this, he loves comfortably with the funds from all his insane stunts.
NOISETTE:
Silkwing princess. Despite being directly in line for the throne, she has no desire whatsoever to be queen, and much prefers baking odd foods and hanging out with Noise and Vigi.
She's a flamesilk, and uses her power to cook food and not much else. Had a very close eye kept on her when younger in case she set the kingdom alight.
She met Noise when he catapulted through her window as part of a stunt. She was enthralled by his pure dumbassery and fell in love with him almost immediately. She's the closest to being "regular" sized out of the whole lineup, as everyone else is either small or gigantic (because making massive dragons is fun)
FAKE PEPPINO:
Shoddily made statue that was Animus enchanted to come to life. Has no wings and can't fly, and was made as a way to intimidate peppino.
Is sentient and aware of his surroundings, and is conscious of the fact he's not like any other dragons, though is just happy to exist.
Made out of volcanic stone and is near impossible to kill. Even if he was broken to pieces, he'd put himself back together. Isn't actively aggressive but often forgets his own strength.
PIZZAHEAD:
Teeny tiny sand/silk animus. Has completely lost the sense of right and wrong and gone mad with power.
Was once mentored by John, who was also an animus. But when John urges Pizzahead to be careful with his powers, Pizzahead decided to curse him to turn to stone and be bound to whatever the equivalent of the tower is.
After this, his reign of terror began. Has some sort of enchanted object to turn him into Pizzaface, who's at least 3 times his size. Most of Pizzahead's wrongdoings weren't out of pure malice, rather of curiosity. Like, what if I gave this rock sentience? What if I made this guy self combust? Theory only took him so far.
PIZZAFACE:
Pizzahead's other form/alter ego, a sky/rainwing. They're the same person, however a major oversight was made when pizzahead realized he couldn't use his Animus powers when disguised.
Over three times the size of Pizzahead- absolutely massive. Has massive neck frills with eye spots on them, and uses his colour changing abilities to make shifting and frightening patterns across his scales of eyes and teeth, much like how some animals have eyespots to make predators think they're huge and dangerous. Has feather plumes on his brows, like a tropical bird.
Has venom AND fire breath. He was the guy to fuck up Mr Stick's shit after he made the mistake of scamming him.
JOHN:
Former Animus nightwing who was cursed by his student, Pizzahead. He can no longer use his powers and some of his body has turned into stone, making moving about very tedious. He's bound to the tower and if he were to leave it, or if it were to be destroyed, he'd die. He also used to be able to read minds and see the future, but his curse also took away these powers.
UNNATURALLY huge. Probably due to being alive for a very long time and also being an animus. His head alone is only a pit smaller than the average dragon.
He's perpetually grumpy (who wouldn't be if they were cursed?) And only really talks to his brother, Gerome. He spends a lot of his time sleeping because he has nothing else to do.
GEROME:
John's brother. Was never an animus, but was also cursed by Pizzahead when he tried to save his brother. He's also bound to the tower, but hasn't been turned to stone. He also has mind reading abilities that weren't taken away like his brother's.
About the size of Peppino, though his wings and tail are smaller and he's a lot spikier looking, as well as having a lot more color. This is probably because being locked in a tower for so long dulled he and his brother's iridescent scales.
Eventually he and John were rescued when Peppino took the tower down. During the time they were in the tower, Gerome and John lived for many centuries, and it's unknown if they'll age or not after their escape.
BURTON:
Seawing aristocrat. Related to the royal family and therefore has a few royal swirls on his wings, but isn't directly involved in any of it.
Outgrew his boring life (metaphorically and literally- he's giant and bumped his head on every palace doorway) when he was a young adult and decided to leave being an aristocrat behind, instead opting to move to the coast of the rainwing kingdom where he planned to live alone. This changed when he found Mr Stick washed up on shore one day with a nasty venom wound and helped nurse him back to health, and Mr Stick moved in with him. Historians will call them close friends.
He's a sweetheart. A gentle giant. Loves to spend his days admiring creatures in the tidepools and stuff and is great at making friends.
AND THAT'S IT oh my god this took a lot longer to write than I thought. If you made it this far congrats
