Despite these movies having similar moral philosophies and plot points, I think Rebellion is more popular with the Kawoshin shippers in the NGE fandom whereas WWY is more loved by the Shinji/Rei fans, me being one of them. Both Kaworu and Homura go through time loops for the person they love and while interesting pairings, they’re toxic yaoi/yuri and there’s an unhealthy aspect to them their fans often refuse to acknowledge.

As for WWY, despite having a similar name to Homura, Hodaka is more like Shinji as a character and while quite different personality wise, Hina does have some things in common with Rei. I know a lot of people hate Reishin because it’s viewed as incest or queer erasure but it’s not a bad pairing and can be really emotional. The Grand Escape moment of WWY is basically a happier version of 2.22’s ending. Neither Reishin or Hodaka/Hina is a perfect love story but that’s okay as a ship doesn’t need to be perfect to be loved.

WWY is very underrated as well in my opinion. Perhaps because it’s concept is less interesting than Your Name’s body swapping or Suzume’s guy turning into a chair, but it’s really good and is sort of the forgotten middle child of the trilogy.
