Ravaged by the effects of the Celestial Collapse and the cessation of power provided by the runes, the eastern lands of Azuma are a shadow of their prosperous past. Weakened by corruptive forces, the gods of nature retreated from the world, leaving mountains to crumble and fields to wither. The people of Azuma seek aid against a blight that has swept these once-bountiful lands. One young hero enters into a contract with a dragon and sets out on a journey. “Accept the might of the Earth Dancer. Use this power to save the land.”
Guardians of Azuma takes players on an all-new adventure in the never-before-seen country of Azuma. Here, players will assume the role of an Earth Dancer destined to return hope—and life—to the once-thriving land. Choose from one of two protagonists whose fates are closely tied together, and experience reimagined and expanded Rune Factory gameplay; as an Earth Dancer, players will farm with grace, restore and build entire villages, and fight with new weapons like the Bow and Talismans. Azuma is a vast world to explore with majestic villages to uncover, each taking inspiration from Japanese culture and each with a seasonal theme. In addition to exploration, combat, and village-building, players will also cultivate relationships with the locals, recruiting them to your side in battle or to help manage the villages. Wield sacred treasures of the gods and the Earth Dancer’s power of dance to purify the land and return Azuma to its former glory. The adventure of a new world awaits.
Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma Key Features:
Bold New Abilities and Weapons: As an Earth Dancer, use the power of dance, sacred treasures, and fresh weapons like the Bow and Talismans to purify the land, farm, and undo the Blight’s damage.
It Takes a Village: Don’t just mind the farm—rebuild entire villages! Construct and place buildings strategically to entice people to return to the villages and contribute. Revive the gods to bring vitality and valuable resources back to the plagued lands.
Your Fantasy Japanese Life: Experience beautiful Japanese-inspired character designs and aesthetics—from festivals to events to monsters. Explore Azuma’s natural landscapes and its seasonal-themed locales steeped in tradition.
Classic Romance and Relationships: Choose between male and female protagonists, then befriend or romance any of the eligible candidates—god and mortal alike—in fully voiced scenarios. Recruit these new friends to aid in dynamic battles, too!

So... looking at the artwork of the marriage candidates...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Edit: there's more!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have absolutely no idea who I'm picking.
My best guess would be maybe the buff guy? (I haven't learned names yet) but he doesn't seem to be as buff in the actual game so that loses him points.
Edit: Just to clarify, the reason I'm having trouble deciding is none of the guys are my type.
Which is fine. As I've mentioned before I went into RF4 with none of the guys being my type and I fell in love with Arthur. I'm sure I'll find someone.
As for the girls, I haven't really figured out what my type of girl is.
So I'll be going in with a blank slate for all of them. This'll be fun

Rune factory Guardians of Azuma
alrighty so this is gonna be a little lengthy because a lot was shown recently! however I'm typing on my tablet which is dying as I type and the sites won't load, forgive me for image sizes as I can't make them smaller.
first off, here's the new rune factory guardians of azuma trailer. accompanied with a release date of May 30, 2025. the game alone is 60$ USD while the limited edition is 100$ USD.
I'll get into characters in a minute, but we are seeing town building as well as being allowed to pick NPCs jobs (im assuming they're just store running NPCs with no storyline). and the trailer kind of gives pokemon graphics with genshin inspired mechanics. some mechanics also remind me of Pokemon legends Arceus. Keep in mind this is a sideline game, if I remember correctly they are working on 6, a mainline game. They are trying a totally new formula with this game and farming will still be included but not a main focus.
It seems there will be 2 romance routes locked behind dlc, and for the first time in a long time, the mcs will have their own distinctive personalities and the opposite of you pick will be romanceable.

Story: The Celestial Collapse — a calamity caused by a colossal object crashing into the eastern lands known as Azuma. The devastating impact sent fragments of terrain to the skies above and the seas below. With the earth shattered, the power provided by the runes ceased to flow. The gods of nature vanished soon after. Mountains crumbled and fields withered, leaving the people with nothing…not even hope. You awaken, startled by a dream of dueling dragons. You don’t remember how or why, but a voice resonates within you. "Accept the power of an Earth Dancer. Use this power to save the land.” Thus begins your lengthy journey to restore the gods…
now for characters:
Subaru (male mc) and Kaguya (fem mc)
Tumblr media
Left his cold village in the northern part of Azuma on a mission to save the land. Childhood friends with Kaguya, who hails from the same hometown. Usually relaxed and easy-going. Enjoys gazing at the sky. While generally not a fan of battle, he has a strong sense of justice, and will fight fiercely to protect his friends and loved ones.
Tumblr media
Left her cold village in the northern part of Azuma on a mission to save the land. Childhood friends with Subaru, who hails from the same hometown. Loves being in nature, especially interacting with animals and observing flowers. Although usually calm, she despises evil and resents any acts of injustice.
Tumblr media
Woolby (mascot /sidekick)
The protagonist's loyal partner and guide. A bit of a braggart and a klutz. His gluttonous nature makes him susceptible to sweet bribes, especially dango.
Romance options, there are 16!
Tumblr media
Iroha
The owner of Iroha's Teahouse in Spring Village. A friendly, caring young woman who dreams of revitalizing Spring Village and returning it to its former glory.
Tumblr media
Murasame (they beefed him down in game sadly)
A samurai who wanders Azuma with the goal of becoming the world's greatest swordsman. Master of the Munen Muso sword style, which means "free from empty thoughts." Spends his days training and keeping his sword in good condition.
Tumblr media
Hina
A half-human, half-fox were-animal who arrives in Azuma on an airship with Mauro. Claims to be an archaeologist. Childhood events instilled her with a strong desire to help others.
Tumblr media
Mauro
A self-proclaimed treasure hunter from a foreign land who came to Azuma by airship in search of a legendary treasure. This sentimental soul is easily moved to tears.
Tumblr media
Ulalaka
Azuma's kind, gentle god of spring and merriment. Her benevolence knows no bounds, and she simply wants everyone to live happy, peaceful lives.
Tumblr media
Matsuri
Azuma's carefree god of summer and swords. Enjoys physical activities of all kinds. Despite being a master of the blade, she tends to solve problems with brute force instead.
Unfortunately I've hit the picture limit, so I'll have to make a part 2.

some fun Guardians of Azuma tidbits from the Famitsu interview with Director Shiro Maekawa:
Maekawa & Producer Hisashi Fujii apparently got into a Lot of arguments during game planning lol. they seem to have mostly been about when & where to keep things the same as they were in previous RFs vs trying new things and innovating
the goal for Azuma was to return to the RPG-focus of RF the series was originally designed to establish, as they felt it was drifting a little too closely to Bokumono in more recent entries and wanted to experiment with adventure RPG features / emphasise that vibe before 6 came out so that the transition in feel between 5 and 6 wasn’t too overwhelming
The OST for the game was recorded by a live orchestra, which was the idea of the game’s composer Noriyuki Asakura
Mauro’s airship is just directly the one from RF4, albeit remodelled. [Not part of the interview: he is also apparently the De Sainte-Coquille of the game]
Iroha was named after the poem “The Iroha” (いろは), as a reference to her being effectively the Tutorial Character who “teaches the protagonist the ABC’s of the game”
Matsuri is the general staff favourite character! (She’s also Maekawa’s pick for a favourite.)
Kurama is a gamer. Literally described as a “game nerd & homebody” type.
Kai was designed with the intent of being “the most handsome male character” to emphasise the reveal involved in his removing his mask LOL
The gods all have full names — Ulalaka’s is “Harunoulalakanahinomikoto,” or “ハルノウララカナヒノミコト” (“spring is coming”).
Subaru & Kaguya both being available in the story (and marriable) was directly inspired by Oceans, as Maekawa said he liked the concept there & thought it was a bummer it hadn’t been in 4 or 5
Maekawa directly brought up same-sex marriage being available #ally
The four seasonal villages available in the game have their own specific village levels / rankings that can be improved to unlock new features and things like crafting recipes (similar to, say, SoS Trio of Towns’ town ranking feature). one example they used was the volcano near Summer Village becoming active & being usable as a hot spring source once you level the village up enough
They’ve added up / down as aiming & fighting directions for battle, as well as ranged combat (both of these being what bows and talismans were added for). Bows are manual aim & talismans are automatic aim
Overall it’s a game the team is very, very proud of & that they’re excited to share with fans! They got a lot of feedback from staff in different departments who acted as playtesters & went over everything until they were proud enough of the product to describe themselves as such.
