davybaby is basically always on my mind and I don’t feel particularly articulate right now so sorry if this feels incoherent and uncreative but im just thinking about davy coming home on the plane after a trip to england where he felt particularly lonely but assured everyone that he’d be okay and he could make the trip alone and all the boys meet him at the airport and davy just runs into their huddle and drops his bags down and they do a big group hug and davy kind of just melts into mike for a while and mike sways davy back and forth and rubs his back and then eventually scoops him up onto his hip and tells him next time he’s not gonna have to go alone, money be damned.

I project everything onto little davybaby right now cause he’s got three best friends who take care of him and keep him safe and that makes me feel so many things 😭

Davy thinks he’s got it all under control and that he’s super strong and independent and even though he’s felt so lonely and isolated on this trip he’s proud of himself for doing it alone! deep down, leon aches for his ex-girlfriend. you're the gauze of a heart that does not bleed for you. you're looking at him but his affection does not rouse at the sound of your name.

it's eating at him. he'll never escape the realization that even a lifetime of getting used to you won't ever amount to having a brief glimpse of ada wong.

if guilt is a penalty then leon is a man for the guillotine. he wakes up beside you, warm skin on just skin when he reaches over to gently kiss you on the forehead for a love-empty greeting. does he like doing it?

leon has a blurry count of how long it has been since he last felt the high of love.

he will never deny it. leon is a fool for tying tight strings for a woman that kissed him with lies but you just don't know anything. you don't know the raw care that lingers on ada's face, her stoic tendencies, her slender shoulders that carry the burden of a past he'll never know of. he's a fucking idiot for keeping scores with a bossy woman and finding love in her during a citywide bloodshed.

but because of the wrong of it all, shit, he felt the most human in the fucking world. leon deserving a healthy relationship after the incident in raccoon? bullshit, he doesn't deserve that; not when he's just going to end up hurting you with his pain. it won't ever change the fact that a part of him shudders at the sheer thought of ada.

and the naive look on your face will always remind him where it hurts.

during the first few weeks of trying to rehabilitate from a forsaken and true love, leon has already told you his issues and tendencies. you came with the guess that "it's most likely the trauma, leon.. you know i'm here. and let's hope ada is okay." and he nods quietly, kissing your cheek in mechanical reflex.

so you've had this discussion with him before—you were so open, so warm. but leon does not let himself relax around you. you're both a manifestation of his culpability and a cognitive drug to him— it drives him insane sometimes he cries at night and he doesn't even tell you why, just nuzzling into your skin and staining it wet with the depression that seeps in his nerves.

he's blind to the eager light in your eyes when you ramble about your day. he's smiling and playing with his straw while your words go from one ear out the other; because when he locks eyes with you he doesn't see you. he only sees a reflection of himself using you to his mending. and it's anything but your fault.

he somehow still has the audacity to feel some sort of affection towards you; but who will ever tell him he's just guilty and sympathetic? or, no. he just thinks that way.

is it possible? god, is it possible to care for someone you don't love? perhaps, but was that the care you needed?

you needed leon to care for you.

you wished ada was just here to whisk him away and maybe you wouldn't find yourself here. you know it, deep in your stomach. but you are bittersweet, you love to fucking convince yourself leon loves you. he loves you, doesn't he?

he felt like dying that night he saw your face drop when he opened his wallet to pay. he still had a picture of ada in his wallet. why was he so blind? why was he so careless?

you utter begrudgingly after you stood up, calculating your share quickly and dumping it on the table with a rush. he stares at the table with horror gorging at his heart, watching his 'love' walk away from him with tear-blurring eyes. the faucet doesn't stop running when you reach the car. leon knew this, your heart was just too big for your own good.

you felt like a fool; you're the one trying to prove that leon loves you. how stupid does that fucking sound?

so later that night he's at home, inebriated out of his fucking mental while he's hunched over the sink. slightly sunken eyes stare back at him blurrily.

leon tries to rinse the guilt off his face but when he sees himself it's hard to even look—he doesn't know himself anymore, he's just the husk of a man that has his love taken away from him and stuffed in an abyss that stares back. and you don't have to guess which 'love' he's thinking of.

love. the word is so simply ridiculous, isn't it? one minute it's warm and gentle but it feels like a whole war when you try to conquer it. love always wins, it wins over him when he tries his fucking best to just be a better boyfriend for you.

it's like that one quote from that one book. "love is the only rational act."

what leon feels for you is right. he cares for you enough not to bring your hopes up anymore. he should just leave, but he doesn't want to abandon you. but what good is leon if he stays? if there was a god up there, leon pleas, tell me what to do to make it hurt less for them.

temptation is non-existent. his heart belonged to ada. ada ada ada. he's sorry but he can only think of her. even the name sounds right to him. it's a poisonous solace, the way his sombers connect with ada's.

i just found this buried a year into my drafts and realized. i never posted my animatronics ratings for last year’s spirit halloween releases. i started it and i never finished it. it’s now closing in on halloween season again and i still haven’t done it. im ashamed. i am so sorry  

ANYWAY, here’s, uh, my. 9 month late 2022 spirit halloween opinions, happy summerween i guess 

Mr. Punchy 

NEW CLOWN NEW CLOWN fuck yes i love a new clown

also for some reason the first sentence of his description made me lose it 

BIG fan of this just from a visual standpoint, i love the colors, love the hair. i like the light-up face on this one a lot, most spirit clowns ive seen fall into either “Clown Who Is A Monster/Creature” (crouchy, hugz) or “Clown Who Is A Scary Guy” (wally, henry hussle) but this one feels very “evil fun house prop” which i really think works for it. im assuming he’s based on punching-bag clowns, which i haven’t seen them do before, but the fact that his body is a Ball also gives me the mental image of him violently bouncing toward you which is good as well. theres a certain manic energy about this guy that im really fond of. i like him i would like to see him 7/10 

Spike

standard zombie torso figure, though it does have some interesting implications given that Stab The Brain is the generally agreed upon best way to deal with zombies, but this guy seems to be doing just fine despite the giant stake in his head. the website description says he got it from his wife attempting to mercy kill him once he turned zombie but she failed so he’s just stuck like this now. it does not explain why stake to the brain didn’t work, though (the implication is that she missed or something but clearly she didn’t. ive never heard of zombie brains having a very specific precise spot you have to hit to kill them, this looks like it should’ve worked to me) 

something about the bLurghHGhRUrrh noises he makes and the little nicely buttoned flannel shirt with jagged obviously-cut-out-intentionally tears at the bottom is very funny to me. i like to think his wife has accepted the situation and he just lives on the porch scaring away birds and stuff now. 5 /10 hes not really anything special but he brings me joy 

Rat Girl

it’s... fine. she’s a Creepy Little Girl. she’s got a rat. it’s not particularly inspired but I don’t dislike it. she doesn’t really do anything but i like the eye movement. 5/10 

Lil Skelly Bones

this is a variation of another animatronic they had previously, same lil guy but now he’s a jumpscare figure instead of a swinging one. not really a fan of stuff that’s Just “jumps out at you” and thats all but he’s pretty cute. love how Small he is. whats even going on here, is he a skeleton dressed as a skeleton?? i don’t know. it’s very cute. 5/10 

Tombstone Terror

on a surface level this is just a tombstone with a skull that pops out and yells at you. it looks nice, it’s designed well, but it’s about as basic as it gets as far as the concept goes. the description for this one really makes it though, because evidently this skeleton’s name is Steve and he used to be the graveyard caretaker who loved his job so much he stuck around after death to continue protecting the graveyard

his name is steve and he loves this graveyard so much. 6/10 its very uncreative as a prop but it gets a bonus point for steve 

The Widow 

this one looks really familiar i feel like they had a very similar one previously? i dont know. anyway she’s very scary looking and the Neck Snap motion is really unsettling to see. one of those rare animatronics that i actually do feel a lil creeped out by and wouldn’t be eager to approach. her description says her husband cheated on her so she murdered him (and her sister, who he was cheating with) but then broke her neck in the process of trying to dump the bodies in a lake, so here we are. 7/10 i dont love it but i feel like it’s pretty effective and my first reaction to watching the video of it was “eugh. i dont want to see THAT again” so props for that 

Betty Sharpe 

lots of blood on this one, very nice, 

apparently she’s some kind of child beauty pageant contestant who murdered all the other girls

i really like the movement in the bag, something about the relatively slow motion and the size of the bag gives it a sense of “what the fuck does she have in there” since it doesn’t seem fast enough or big enough to be a person. gives the impression of a mutilated but somehow still barely alive person shoved in there, which is excellent. her design doesn’t read very clearly though, it looks like she’s wearing some kind of nightgown. i feel like they could’ve done more to make her look like a deranged diva, give her a tiara or something. the face looks really plasticky also. overall i think its a decent concept that could’ve been executed better. 6/10

Young Crouchy

H U H???!?????

this... sure is a choice. i do not understand the decision-making here at all. i like crouchy well enough but did ANYONE want this. it doesn’t even read as “young crouchy” at all, he doesn’t look Younger in any sense and it sounds like the same recording so his voice isn’t different either. it just looks like Slightly Shrunk crouchy. the fact that the original crouchy is so tall and imposing is really what makes him so effective, so this one just looks comical 

the description goes into his tragic childhood where i guess he’s... disabled? which is why he stands like that? 

The pain of growing up orphaned in the streets can only be masked by laughter, at least according to this broken child. With no friends, no family, and nowhere to turn, he had a stroke of luck when the circus came to town. He never intended to scare anyone, but with his broken posture and twisted frame, he was quickly adopted into the traveling circus and immediately found his calling. No amount of makeup could ever hide his sinister grin and sharp, dagger-like teeth, so he finally embraced his true identity as Crouchy and worked to become the show’s most terrifying act!

for one thing that doesn’t come across as a child even remotely at all, and while crouchy always had the “he just wanted to be a regular clown but he was too scary and everyone was afraid of him so he just decided to embrace it” backstory, i feel like this just makes it come across super ableist. “clown who is just really terrifying no matter how he tries” is kind of a funny concept but now they’re saying “his posture and body structure are Weird and Scary so no one liked him and all he’s good for is being Scary” just. feels real bad. and “he’s called crouchy because he has a physical disability that affects his posture” comes across way worse than “he’s called crouchy because we’re not creative and this is the pose he’s in. i mean because its a personal quirk of his” 

then they also follow up this description with “Every good evil villain has to have a tragic origin story!” which just feels SO forced, it makes me feel gross, this whole thing is stupid, i dont like any of it,

i feel like if they had leaned into “this is very silly” more and made this guy be like, Crouchy Jr, His Son, or his mini clone or something and made his voice higher it might’ve worked. a few people in the youtube comments pointed out that this prop could be beneficial as like, a Smaller/More Affordable crouchy if you don’t have the money or the space for the full size one, which is fair, but i don’t know. i just dont like this whole situation i really don’t 

3/10 try harder next time, spirit

spooky scarecrow man!!! i really hope I get a chance to see him in-store sometime hes lovely. love a creepy scarecrow

the design is good, his face design is pretty cool, it looks better in motion his mouth movements are pretty solid

he has a good range of motion in his head and the jerky/stiff movement in his arms works for the character really well whether it was intentional or not. hes interesting to watch. i like him. i think he’d be a great host/introductory figure at the beginning of a haunt or front of your yard or something to greet guests coming in. hes good i like him 7/10

theres also a new Reagan from the exorcist, but i havent. actually seen that movie yet sdfsdf so i dont really have anything to say about the animatronic other than “it looks fine to me”

i feel like pumpkin man and creepy scarecrow are friends. they go well together. cursed pumpkin patch is a good concept i like it 

anyway we have this guy at my local store right now, he’s pretty Big and solid looking, its a pretty decent design, i like his big claw hands

his backstory kind of clashes with the design concept though, apparently he was... a kid in a homemade halloween costume who got bullied for his costume and then the other kids locked him in a barn at a haunted pumpkin patch so his body got taken over by evil spirits. which is a hell of a story that then makes No sense with the visual, because that is Not a child. nothing about this even remotely reads as “possessed child” at all. so then it comes across as “he grew up into an adult man in this pumpkin patch and just never fucking moved on from that one time he got bullied on halloween as a child” which just makes him kind of sad. pretty good design, poor backstory, 7/10 

anyway sorry if i missed anybody it took me so long to remember this was in here the new arrivals page on spirit’s site is now for this year so i cant tell which ones were new last year anymore :’    ) fjsdg

i see it less as "this is just for fun shut up!!" (but like, yeah it is. tbh i dont take my fic writing as seriously as i would a full novel. sorry to fic writers who do but its a different medium with different rules. i dont see telenovellas as the same as a drama/suspense feature film and tbh there are pros and cons with each with their own audiences. i don't get ppl who say it is all 100% perfect literature that should be taken as seriously as the classics or something fanfic is on the same level as webnovels for me--and i enjoy webnovels more than the average published novel. something being less serious and more causal has no bearing on popularity or level of enjoyment in the audience)

but instead. if you are a random reader on my fic i don't necessarily know you. i dont know if we're on equal footing. you could be a published author giving me writing advice i do not understand. you could be a total amateur giving me horrible advice. you could be an annoying prick who doesn't understand basic themes or deeper meanings who loudly and angrily says "the curtains are just BLUE!" complaining in my comments about how nothing makes sense and the fic is annoying to read because you are taking everything completely literally.

i got some frankly hurtful "constructive" criticism in early fandom days from people who flat out hated my work and were never gonna like it. it could have been the most well written, well structured, gorgeous prose, and they would be pissy about the plot and subject matter. the "tips" they gave me, while sandwiched between genuinely good advice sprinkled in, was mostly "this story sucks, the plot sucks, i hate what you chose to write about, you're an uncreative hackjob of an author, get off this website before you continue to make an utter clown of yourself because i hate AUs and i hate canon divergence and i hate this ship". and if you so much as said "uhm maybe this fic just isnt for you then--" they would proceed to harass you. honestly its a wonder i continued writing at all, but all it did was serve to make me more paranoid about what i was putting out into the world. i wasn't thinking about writing fundamentals or pacing or plot structure or characterization, i was trying to justify my ideas for years. because it was shitty advice. they didn't want to help me get better, they were mad i wasn't writing the stories they wanted. and it made me a worse writer for a time.

constructive criticism is constructive only when all parties know each other well enough and can consent to it. it only works when its done by peers or higher ups who are trained in how to criticize a work properly--because it's very easy to again, not see the story the writer wanted to tell and how to make it better, but instead see how you would write it and make it fit into your vision. bad writing workshops where people don't get this IRL also has this side effect.

fanfic writing is writing practice. you're putting words on a page, that is practice. regardless if you are making a crackfic or writing a full multi-novel series. but in terms of art if im coloring a sketch im going loose and fast, getting ideas down and practicing shapes and forms--it's not gonna be polished. i dont need someone to tell me "uhm your lines arent clean. and also this hand is wonky. and the folds of the fabric dont make perfect sense" yeah. its not a polished painting. sorry i do things that are loose and fast? it doesn't mean i learned nothing from the colored sketch or no one should enjoy it. it means it should be graded on a different standard. i know the lines are rough. i know its a bit unclean. i know the hand looks wonky bc i didn't wanna spend half an hour making it look perfect. i can promise you i CAN make it look polished.

or just as easily it's a newer author. they don't know how prose should be structured. they don't know pacing yet. do you genuinely understand it well enough and can explain it with clarity enough to teach them? are you ready to hold their hand through that? are you ready to full on teach them so they make improvements? probably not. i just dont think the average AO3 user is a writing instructor who wants to do that on their time off. but you pointing out complex things in an effort to be helpful probably isn't gonna help much. they most likely know its awkward and weird on that part, or if they don't, you pointing it out isn't a solution. you'll at best have no effect, and at worse just make them self conscious.

tl;dr: fanfic isn't serious and idc whoever says it should be held to the same shining standard as a full published novel, they're morons. critiquing smth is a skill that requires the consent of all parties, and can't be done anonymously unprompted. bad critique can be more harmful than no critique. idk who you are most of the time, random commenters on ao3. i wouldnt go to you for advice, why would i take your criticisms unprompted? you don't know who the hell i am or where im even going with this story. if i wanted a beta reader id find one. and i learned more through genuine practice and learning exercises than i ever did unprompted "advice" and "constructive criticism" on fanfic websites

I just saw a Tik Tok that said writers on AO3 are not looking for constructive criticism in their reviews. I have no audience on this platform so I have to know if this is true? I've always left my pros and cons when reading a fic and now I'm concerned that the authors didn't like that.

Yeah writers are Not looking for criticism, constructive or otherwise. Unless they specifically ask for it, it’s considered rude and honestly a bit hurtful. In the least bitchy way possible, don’t do that. It’s unwanted.

oh these are exams administered not by the school itself but uh. by a company. who charges like 90 dollars per exam. that you statistically will probably not pass. and everyone buys into it because at least taking the course shows you try hard. which helps you get into a good university. better if you scored a 4 or 5, which then again you need to pay to report to Each School You Apply To

yeah im taking calc ab which is like. calc 1? and calc bc is calc 1 and 2 in the same amt of time? maybe its bcs all the smart kids go into calc bc is prob why the pass rate is good

oh yeah uh, the grading goes like ... this. they have very strict guidelines on how to grade. so for frq (free response question) if like any of x, x, or x are true, score whatever number it tells you to. if the response gets past those and if any of x x or x are true, score a 6 or smth. and whether the response reached that, depends on the ap graders, who are stuck into this huge place in like idk minnesota and they just grade all day. all day. like they have a quota of like 200 or 300 exams to go through and grade. for mcq its either right or wrong the computer can grade that they prob just scan it all in the scantron

for language yeah it depends on the teacher and how they prepare you for the test over the years you learn the language idk if you did the STAMP test or whatever but i got like one of the top scores in the class for speaking, a 5 5 6 7 (reading, writing, listening, speaking) so technically i have a good chance at ap japanese exam but am i going to sit through sensei's class for another year? hell the fuck no.

i have no idea where they got that, because i was like "tf is happening" this entire year. so like i don't know. but i passed.

ANYWAYS waaaaa ive been taking a break so its really hard for me to accept that i am hardworking even though a lot of people say so? maybe its because like every time i slack i get scolded by someone at home LOL but ive been resting the last 6 days so yeah (spring break)

okay i actually had to do research on this because i didn't know what it was minus celebrities dressing up so ahskdhkdad

but here is a short list of my hcs and maybe outfit ideas (?) for my girls!!

- they've been invited every year since they turned 15, but never really wanted to go (plus they all thought it would be a bit overwhelming esp for marcy) so they turned it down

- ended up going when they were 20!! technically they were forced into it, but sasha was going to ask to go anyway so they weren't too mad abt having to go

- (we'll say the theme was the most recent one for my poor brain) so their theme was In America: A Lexicon of Fashion and i think they did p well w it!!

- marcy would probably do smth like lili reinhart (the dress w each states flower on it) but a bit shorter so she doesn't trip and green!!

- sasha would bring a sword, because why not <3

- anne would wear a blue dress that lights up when she moves because she thinks it's pretty (and vaguely reminds her of vegas so it 'fits' the theme)

- one of them wanted to wear a dress made out of fast food packaging but they weren't allowed

- they perform too, so they get two outfits (their performance was like a mashup of their favourite songs, it slaps <3)

- they take a lot of pictures

- since they were so 'elusive' they were the center of attention for a bit because wow they Actually showed up to an event.. crazy

- sasha spills food over her outfit but claims it was part of the style and everyone rolls w it

- they dont arrive together, because sasha wanted to be extra

- anne shows up first because she was actually ready on time, sasha shows up second and almost knocks over anne ('i missed you!' ... ' you saw me an hour ago sash...'), marcy shows up last and the other two are very happy to see them

- they don't rlly leave each other's sides after a while, so there are only like 2 solo pics of each of them jskahddh
